Speaker 1 (00:07):
The Spring league meeting is underway and there is a
lot for Roger Goodell and NFL owners to chew on.
We are live in Minnesota with all the latest that
includes big news on football's global future. NFL players officially
will be allowed to participate in the twenty twenty eight Olympics.
Viking superstar Justin Jefferson and teammate Brian Awesome Wah will
(00:31):
join us on the show to give their thoughts on
a monumental day for flag football and beyond. This meeting
also could decide the fate of the Tush Push, with
a vote likely coming on the Packers' updated proposal tomorrow.
We will break down the arguments on both sides and
here from Eagles players before the final verdict. Welcome inside
with the inside. It's alongside Judy mctisa. I am Tom
(00:54):
pelliserro We are here in Egan, Minnesota, where throughout the
day NFL owners for meeting in the rooms just behind
us here. We are going to have a lot of
interesting football discussion on Wednesday. Judy on some of the
proposals that were tabled back in March, including yes, the
assisting the runner, which is what we are calling the
Twisch push floridaw But for today, all the news was
about the Olympics because NFL owners today voted at the
(01:18):
Spring league meeting to permit participation of NFL players in
flag football at the twenty twenty eight Olympic Games in
Los Angeles. The approved resolution authorizes the league to work
with the NFL Players Association, the International Federation of American Football,
and the relevant Olympic authorities to implement rules governing the
participation of NFL players in flag football, which makes its
(01:38):
Olympic debut in twenty twenty eight. As you would expect,
Roger Goodell is feeling goal.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
We're excited to announce today that the NFL owners unanimously
passed the resolution giving every NFL player an opportunity to
play in the Olympics in twenty twenty eight in Los Angeles.
I think this is news, represents a great opportunity for
the sport, for the NFL. It's truly the next step
(02:08):
in uh making NFL football and football a global sport
for men and women of all ages and all opportunities
across the globe. We think that's the right thing to do,
and this is a big step in accomplishing that for
our players, we think it's a tremendous opportunity for them
(02:29):
to represent their country, Uh, to compete for a gold medal,
which is the pinnacle of global sports.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Began those you know, three years down the line, and uh,
they're still planning and who's going to be on the
team and all. But you know, just think about the
chances of you know, playing in Olympics and you know,
getting a gold medal is a dream. So now that
where we're you know, expanding the game and you know
(02:59):
we're going more globally.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Is pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
So who is going to be on Team USA? Tory
Smith already weighing in saying first selection, Lamar Jackson, start
finishing out your fantasy flag lineups right now. Kyle Hamilton,
current Raven safety hosting a South Korean flag, one of
players with heritage in other countries who potentially could have
opportunities to represent those nations as well as we bring
(03:28):
our Steve Whitch into the conversation here just thinking about Korea.
Judy Kyler Murray, the Arizona Cardins quarterback. I think we
all look at go that guy's a flag football player.
That's one of about three hundred players across the NFL,
as Peter O'Reilly pointed out today, who wear flags on
their NFL helmets, regardless how the rosters shakeout. And we
got a few years to figure that. This is a
big day for the NFL and football in general.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
It's a big day for flag football. It's a big
day for football internationally. The NFL has really pushed flag
football as a way to get the rest of the
world in interested in American football, which, as we know
is American football. It has not been played internationally much,
but flag football has been on the.
Speaker 6 (04:07):
Rise now for a few years.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
The NFL put a lot of muscle behind getting flag
football into the twenty eight Olympics in Los Angeles, and
this is the next step. And let's face it, when
you've got some of the best professional athletes in the
world going to play flag football, as NFL players are,
that is going to attract a lot of eyeballs.
Speaker 6 (04:26):
Today.
Speaker 7 (04:26):
When they were talking.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
About it, league officials, they kept invoking the Dream Team
from nineteen ninety two when you had the best NBA
players in the Olympics and it was quite a show.
There are going to be some restrictions here. We're not
going to have a true Dream Team because it's not
going to be all NFL players, but they're hoping that
(04:48):
what this does for flag football is akin to the
way the Dream Team took the interest in professional basketball
and just exploded.
Speaker 7 (04:58):
It, and Judy to dovetail off that.
Speaker 8 (05:00):
I mean, you mentioned people like Kyler Murray, you know,
who's got Korean heritage, and some other players with different
heritages from Canada, from from African countries. They're going to
introduce this to their countries, be it American football for
the men's side or the women's side.
Speaker 7 (05:14):
Let's not forget the women's part of this. But let's
look at the NBA. Now.
Speaker 8 (05:18):
Some of the biggest stars in the NBA are guys
like Nikola Jokic, Lukadankic, the Greek freak Giannis, You've got
Victor Webbenmeyer. So these are things that the NFL has seen,
the global expansion of the NBA in professional basketball with
international players either you know, playing in the NBA going
back to their countries to compete for them internationally, you know,
(05:40):
in the Olympics and things like this.
Speaker 7 (05:41):
So this is a way to spread this in so
many different ways.
Speaker 8 (05:43):
But I want to get back to the women's side
of this as well, because remember this is going to
be part of it. We're seeing the expansion of women's
flag football as well, So to be able to have
that along with some big name NFL players again playing
for the United States team, but other countries as well,
this is so that could really take off and help
the global expansion of the game. Help people say I
(06:04):
want my children to play football. So ten years from
now there's this huge global love affair with playing football,
both flag and tackle. This is nothing but a good
day in terms of the expansion that the NFL wants
with its sport.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
You heard justin Jefferson say it's still three years away. Well,
the qualifying is going to happen in twenty twenty six
and twenty twenty seven. So the selection process we're talking
about not just for Team USA, but the other country
is trying to qualify in the men's bracket. That is
going to ramp up pretty quickly here on Wednesday. The
big item on the docket is one that we have
been talking about now for a couple of months. It
(06:39):
is a proposal that would ban the tush push and
beyond the packers filed an updated proposal on Monday night
that is far broader than the one that they brought
forward that was tabled at the league meetings back in March.
This more closely mirrors the rule that was on the
books way back from the start of the league in
nineteen twenty all the way through two thousand and five,
(07:00):
and in general, assisting the runner was allowed to happen.
Once again, there's no pushing and no pulling under the
proposal now that the Packers are putting forward here, you
would not be able to grasp a teammate, the block
an opponent, basically anything that would resemble the touch push,
not just at the line of scrimmage, but even downfield.
This would be a dramatic expansion. It remains to be
(07:20):
see which direction a potential vote on Wednesday will go.
We do a pretty good idea where the Eagles vote
is going to be cast.
Speaker 9 (07:27):
We'll see that where that goes. It's gonna it's We're
not waiting for very long to figure it out. It's
gonna it's gonna be you know, public tomorrow. And you
know how I feel about it. I think the the
we obviously were at the owner's meetings, we talked about
how we felt about it, and I don't think anyone
could question what my sentiment is on it. So we'll see,
(07:47):
we'll see where what happens with it tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Let's bringing our Brian Baldinger into the conversation. Balding, You've
had a lot of time to think about this. You've
seen the Eagles and some other teams, but the Eagles
in particular execute this play at a really high level.
What more of you learn just in talking to coaches
and others about this play and the implications if it
does get banned.
Speaker 10 (08:08):
Well, to the Eagles, Tom, and I just saw an
Eagle's prominent Eagles coach we had camp on Sunday. It's
not a gimmick play. It's not a rugby scrum to
the Eagles. In fact, Eagle coaches tell me Tom that
they spent as much time on this particular play as
he do on any play in the playbook. It is
(08:29):
more than just sometimes Friday work on the short yards
goal line. They work on this play around the year.
They talk through it, they walk through it, they film it.
They coach up the individual part of it, where the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Is going with the ball. It's game plan.
Speaker 10 (08:44):
So this is far more now, I will say this
tom and talking to their offensive line coach Jeff Stotland
years ago about this place, he told me that before
there was a tush push and Nick Sirianni implementing it
into the offense.
Speaker 4 (08:59):
When Carson went, who's the quarterback?
Speaker 10 (09:01):
They converted quarterback sneaks at a radio thirty six at
thirty eight attempts. Now they worked to a quarterback sneaks,
you know, in their own backyard and on their own
thirty yard line back then, but they still converted.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
So they will adjust. Nick will adjust.
Speaker 10 (09:15):
But I do think that the Eagles approach this play
differently than a lot of other plays, and the way
that it's described around the league as a gimmick, as
a rugby scrump.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
To the Eagles, it doesn't fall into any of those categories.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
The critics of this play back in the discussions in March,
they brought up that it doesn't look like a football play.
There were also questions about health and safety, even though
there's no data to show injuries on the play. It's
about the posture. All that mass coming together a lively
debate I would imagine occurring tomorrow morning. Here in Minnesota, Baldy,
thank you very much. The wait is over. In the
(09:51):
countdown to kickoff has begun. Single game tickets for the
twenty twenty five NFL season are on sale now. Visit
NFL dot com, slash tickets, just tickets today. Tickets are
available through the NFL ticket network including Ticketmaster, Seat Geek,
and Sports Illustrated Tickets. And I say tickets enough you
get tickets to Cowboys games. I'm sure we're gonna have
(10:12):
a little bit of a new look this season. George
Pickens joining Ceedee Lamb in that receiver group four quarterback
Dack Prescott. Pickens already on the field in his new colors.
Michael Parson is not practicing, but on hand, coach Brian
Schottenheimer said that he is pleased that so far Michael
Parsons has done what he's been asked to do. Welcome
(10:34):
back to the Insiders, Tom Pelaso, Obrian Baldinger back with us.
Speaker 7 (10:37):
Along with Jane Slater.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Jane, how has Brian schottenheimers so far, from what you've seen,
put his fingerprints on this team?
Speaker 11 (10:45):
You know?
Speaker 12 (10:45):
Cowboys Nation is obviously fatigued after last season, lots of injuries,
it didn't go the way they wanted Tom and so
fans I think roll their eyes a little bit when
we talk about, well, it feels like there's been a
culture change in Dallas. The word that was used a
lot today. Something I picked up on was energy. I
say that we've said that about Mike McCarthy before Jason
(11:06):
Garrett's last year. I get all of that, but the
approach from Brian Schottenheimer in his first year seems really
analogous to that of a college football coach. In other words,
he is going out of his way to make sure
he's taking these guys to dinners, and.
Speaker 11 (11:20):
He jokes that of course he pays for it. The
menu changes, but it's.
Speaker 12 (11:23):
Five or six guys and it's drilling down to get
to know who they are.
Speaker 11 (11:27):
He said, right now, based on.
Speaker 12 (11:28):
The limitations of OTAs, you don't know what your team is.
But talking to Dak, Prescott, Seedee, Lamb, all of those guys,
they say that he is building the culture from the
ground up. Those little things I mean. He even pointed
out with Javonte Williams got here it was important for him.
Speaker 11 (11:43):
To get to know why his name.
Speaker 12 (11:45):
He named his dog Kodak it's just those small things.
And then there was a pong table back in the
locker room. Again laugh roll your eyes at that, but
he likes to see the competitiveness brought back. And so
one person I talked to, in fact, it was Dante
Fowler who left and went to Washington.
Speaker 11 (12:01):
I said, what does it feel like for you?
Speaker 12 (12:03):
He said, it feels a little bit like Pete Carroll
the way that he energizes the locker room, which I
thought was interesting because, as you know, Brian Schottenheimer worked
with Pete Carroll, talked about learned a lot from him,
acknowledged that he.
Speaker 11 (12:14):
Made some mistakes.
Speaker 12 (12:15):
So I get the sense that he has really used
some of that inside edge that he had already having
familiarity inside the building to really build this culture. And
I think that's why you're seeing the respect that him
and Micah Parsons have throughout this deal.
Speaker 11 (12:27):
Micah was not there today.
Speaker 12 (12:28):
He's been around the facility, but he's been in close
communication with them.
Speaker 11 (12:32):
He understands that this is a business decision, and I
get the sense.
Speaker 12 (12:36):
Again that this Micah Parsons thing is going to get done.
As I explained to everyone, his agent also has skins
in this Why is he going to go out there
unless they roll out the red carpet for Micah and
give them a contract that blows away.
Speaker 11 (12:48):
Why would they get this done as.
Speaker 12 (12:49):
They're waiting for guys like Trey Hendrickson, etc. So there
is a process to this, but I really like the
approach and the way that Schottenheimer is trying to build
this culture in this locker room.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Baldy, you just saw George Pickens were in that number
thirteen Cowboys Jersey. You got him, he got CD Lamb.
What are your expectations? How did the defense stop this?
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Well?
Speaker 10 (13:09):
I mean Jay can talk about culture and what Brian's
trying to do here and energizing the locker room all that,
and that's all that is important, but they need an
upgrade in town. I mean Ceedee Lamb has been the
focal point of this offense since he got there. Last
year he had one hundred and one catches. The next
coaches receiver was Jalen Tobert with forty nine at receiver.
The year before it was even worse, Ceedee Lamb had
(13:30):
to earned thirty five catches and the number one offensive
football Brandon Cooks, had fifty four. They really have not
had a good ex receiver since Dez Bryant. Was there
somebody that can go attack your corner on the outside
one on ones and win one on ones and give
back that option and then might not take anything away
from CD. He's still going to get targeted a great
(13:50):
deal because of the way they move him around the
matchups that he can win. His toughness in the middle
of field is unquestioned. But they need a guy on
the outside.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
That can win.
Speaker 10 (13:59):
And I can take a lot of that away from CD.
And I think you got Jake ferguson a tight end,
you got the backs that could catch the ball. I
think this is an important component to this offense. And
if they can keep you know, sometimes that immaturity comes
out of you know, George Pickens at times. If they
can keep him really locked in, just going me upgrade
(14:20):
for this offense all the way around.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Jane. Last season was a mess of injuries for the Cowboys.
We heard from Dak Prescott, he's on track. It seems
like clear for everything but contact Trayvon Diggs though it
sounds like is further away. Where do we stand?
Speaker 6 (14:36):
Well?
Speaker 12 (14:36):
Before I get into Trayvon, there was a funny moment
where he was asked, you know, where are you in
your you know, recoveries, you feel ahead of schedule, And
he dropped a little bit in a f bomb and
he said, well, my season was over early last season,
so my off season started early.
Speaker 11 (14:50):
He says, he's feeling really good.
Speaker 12 (14:52):
Obviously he can't get into the contact right now, but
I saw him energize just coming off the field, talking
about how excided he was about one particular throw. But
I don't know if I've really seen that side of Dak.
I mean a lot of these guys, I think, because
they weren't in the facility last year, are just excited
to be back in there and playing with their brothers.
Speaker 11 (15:08):
Well, let's get into Treyvon Diggs.
Speaker 12 (15:09):
Trayvon Diggs entered that leftnee again last year. Remember he
missed most of the twenty twenty three season last year
after eleven games, came out with this one. I checked
in with that this is coming from doctor Sharif Toba.
He is down there working out in Miami, and it's
my understanding. You know, again this is the same leftknee.
They've been really been locked up with doctor Cooper, who
(15:30):
did the surgery. The big thing that they had to
be careful with is you want to protect the healing
of the surgery, but you've also got to make sure
that you're making sure the other me and the other
leg the right side is in balance as you're losing
some of that muscle and the endurance on the left side.
So it's my understanding they've just now been cleared to
do some low intensity work to get back on the field,
(15:52):
some positions, Doyll movements and again closing that.
Speaker 11 (15:54):
Gap with the imbalance.
Speaker 12 (15:55):
They're doing a lot of band work, they're doing some electricalsulation.
I still get the sense that he's a ways away.
I don't know if we're going to necessarily see him
at training camp here guys, but I think that they
like the progress that they're seeing with him right now.
But I think that's why you're seeing some people out
there say, what are the Cowboys going to do at
the cornerback position in his absence? Have they done enough
(16:18):
in the offseason, And that is a fair question as
it stands right now.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Jane, great stuff, Baldi, thank you very much as well.
We are live here at the Spring League meeting in
Minnesota where Justin Jefferson came all the way across the
street to talk about flight football and to sit down
with me, one of the biggest superstars in the game,
as well as his teammate Brian Awesome Wah joining the
Insiders right after this wage new Today, NFL clubs voted
(16:52):
at the Spring League meeting here in Egan, Minnesota to
permit the participation of NFL players in flag football at
the twenty twenty eight Olympic Games in Los Angeles. You
improved resolution authorizes the lead to work with the NFLPA,
International Federation of American Football, and relevant Olympic authorities to
implement rules governing the participant patient of those players in
flag football, which makes its Olympic debut in twenty twenty eight.
(17:16):
Here's a couple of the guys who could be on
those teams. Guys, big news today NFL players officially allowed
to participate in the twenty twenty eight Olympics. You've been
the global ambassador justin for this since back in twenty
twenty three. Tell me about what you've seen in terms
of the growth both with men and women and also
what this moment means to you.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Yeah, it grew tremendously. I mean now, just like you said,
today is a big day, you know, for NFL players
to be allowed to play in the Olympics. I know
I'm speaking for myself right now, but I'm pretty sure
you know the rest of the players feel the same
as you know, as kids, you know, we grew up
watching the Olympics and just wishing to be a part
of it in some type of way, to compete for
(17:56):
a gold medal, and to compete worldwide. But we never
had at the you know, the sport, uh to to
play worldwide. So for it to grow as much as
it is now and uh for the Olympics to be
uh in l A, and UH for for us to
really expand this this sport.
Speaker 13 (18:13):
I mean, it's it's crazy. It's it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Bran.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
I know you've already been doing a ton of work
in your family's home country of Ghana. You were part
of the recent tryout camp there. Just tell me about
the worth of tapping at the ground level to take
this thing global.
Speaker 14 (18:25):
It takes a lot, honestly, the infrastructure, just setting that
all up and being able to give you know, people
the opportunity to play the game at one of the
highest levels.
Speaker 13 (18:34):
It's unbelievable.
Speaker 14 (18:35):
So, you know, like Justin said, it's a it's a
huge day just not for the for the game, but
for the sport like this, this sport that we've played
so dearly for many, many, many years. It's it's like
finally growing. It's global now. So the expansion of this
is is unbelievable and I'm just excited to be a
part of it. Just doing a lot of work back
(18:56):
home setting this all up. I'm just excited to see
us move forward. We got time, but we'll be ready
to play football.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Everybody thinks that the Team USA is just gonna roll
over everybody, right think you you've seen some of the
tell there's somebody out there who maybe not right now,
but three years from now to be covering this.
Speaker 14 (19:14):
Dudes, there are some guys that are six to three
and probably can run.
Speaker 13 (19:18):
Like they do.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
Have those guys they do.
Speaker 14 (19:20):
There's been one guy, like at the camp, there was
one guy came in five hours late, ran four four twice.
Speaker 13 (19:27):
So he's obviously gonna be on the team.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
It's a very thorough just the way to.
Speaker 13 (19:33):
Tell corner you'll see him. Wow. So if this is
the answer, a lot of confidence.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
So this is the answer to the dream team. Right,
you're too young to remember that, but nineteen ninety two,
it's Jordan, it's Bird, it's Magic and all those dudes.
You can't have that without Justin Jefferson. I know it's
three years away, but we're going to see a Jefferson
team USA Jersey.
Speaker 13 (19:57):
I don't know this, just like you. Ahead is three
years from now.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
So there's a lot of a lot of things that
go on to you know, we play this game in sport.
We don't we don't play flag football. You know, we
play full long football. So just the contact and the
physicality that you know, we're going to go through for
these next three years. You know, hopefully hope hope the
guy that doesn't have a toll on my body. Uh,
and I'm able to you know, be out there and
(20:23):
compete for my country. But it's tough to say at
this very moment. But would it be a dream? Would
it be something that I would be looking forward to?
Speaker 13 (20:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Let me let me ask you this because I saw
there was an interview with the current team USA quarterback
who we're saying, like back Mahomes is gonna be able
to beat me out. Is there any question in your mind,
if we line up the NFL players, it's gonna be
a bunch of NFL dudes in the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
I don't know, because I was just talking about it
in the press conference. Because you know, those guys play
flag football every day. You know, they know the rules,
they know the ins and out on, you know everything.
So it would be tough to, you know, just to
say like it's just going to be all NFL players.
And on top of that, it's only going to be
(21:08):
so many positions, you know, it's only going to be
so many spots on the team, so everybody can't play,
you know, So it's gonna be tough.
Speaker 13 (21:16):
But I mean, that's.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
Gonna be difficult to beat out Patrick Mahons for the
start quarterback the spot. So I mean, good luck, but
I mean that one's gonna be tough.
Speaker 6 (21:27):
For sure.
Speaker 13 (21:28):
That's gonna be tough, I agree.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
For Back in nineteen ninety two, like one of the
images was Charles Barkley, like knocking down this dude from
Angola right for that six' s three corner who's running
four to. Four that was also the inspiration for, guys
a lot of guys back in nineteen nineywo what type
of opportunities could this open up for people around the?
Speaker 13 (21:45):
World this VAGUE i.
Speaker 14 (21:47):
WAS i was a kid ten years old Center, africa
AND i was telling everybody LIKE i played.
Speaker 13 (21:51):
Football they're like what is? That and just going back.
Speaker 14 (21:54):
Now having that camp and you say flag. Football the,
excitement the joy in their faces that they have an
opportunity to represent their country is like, Huge like this
would this would do many many, things not only for the,
players but for the, community for the whole, environment like
the whole, Kragana like it's gonna be.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
Huge so pretty much your only exposure playing Flag imagine
it's been The Pro bowl games in the past couple of.
Years is that game gonna take on a little extra edge?
Now like this is like the tryout.
Speaker 6 (22:20):
Camp right pretty?
Speaker 3 (22:22):
MUCH i mean it definitely kind of is a TRYOUT
i mean to kind of being The Pro bowl for
the you, know last couple of years and uh seeing
the the change in the. Game uh you, know of,
course we started off playing the regular game and we
didn't really enjoy. That you, know we didn't really want to,
hit you, know we didn't want to really have that.
(22:43):
Physicality we didn't want to get anyone. Hurt so now
having it as a flag, game we feel more as,
kids you, know just being out there on the playground
and just you, know throwing up the football and just
having fun with.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
It.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
Uh but of, course you, know the more it gets
to is The, Olympics, uh the intensity is going to
be a little bit.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Higher you had a real short walker from the. Facility
that's the real football, event right for. Six, FIRST i
saw you sitting the few rows behind you at The
Timberwolves warriors game last. Week you're WITH jj. McCarthy how
is that connection coming? Along?
Speaker 13 (23:18):
First it's coming along very.
Speaker 10 (23:19):
Well you.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
KNOW i mean he's he's been my locker mate ever
since he's got, Here so just kind of chopping it
up with him and just you, know being with him
outside of, football you, know just kind of taking him
outside of course to the to The wolves game and
just inviting him to the. House you, know just trying
to build that connection and build that team chemistry because of,
course you, know he's going to be my, quarterback so,
(23:42):
uh in order to have that, connection that have that
that that personal you, know that that one on one.
Connection you, know we have to know each other besides,
Football So it's definitely great, to you, know get to
know him outside of football and seeing what he, likes
seeing what he liked to do outside of, football and
just see him the type of person that he. Is
he's a real cool. Guy and he's From michigan as,
(24:05):
well SO i heard All michigan guys are.
Speaker 1 (24:08):

Today The Spring League meeting is underway here In, Eagan.
MINNESOTA Nfl Owners Commissioner Roger goodell all gathering a bunch
of items on the, docket and we had big news,
(24:51):
ALREADY nfl clubs officially voting to permit the participation OF
nfl players in flag football at the twenty twenty Eight
Olympic games In Los, angeles a huge opportunity for the
league and for football at. LARGE nfl executive vice President
peter O'Reilly, said down with Our Judy.
Speaker 5 (25:10):
Batista peter, O'Reilly you made big. News the owners made
big news today on flag football and The. Olympics this
is a huge step forward for flag. Football THE nfl
has been behind the flag football push for quite a while,
now but ALLOWING nfl players to participate in flag football
(25:30):
in the twenty Eight olympics In Los, angeles what do
you expect that that's going to do for the.
Speaker 15 (25:34):
Sport this is a big day for. Flag it was
a big day a couple of years ago when THE
ioc voted for flag to be An olympic sport for
women and, men and today is the next big day
for the membership to vote unanimously thirty two zero to
allow their players to try out and potentially.
Speaker 13 (25:51):
Participate as a big day we.
Speaker 15 (25:52):
Are we've already seen the impact around the world that
flags On olympic, stage but this is only going to
excel in terms of the excitement and young people seeing
flag as the legitimate sport it is that's growing so
rapidly at all levels in this country and AS i
travel around the. World you see flag growing in all
(26:13):
of these countries where we're playing games and spending. Time
so today we'll only accelerate. That all.
Speaker 5 (26:18):
Right what kind of initial reaction have you gotten first
from the players in THE nfl about their interest level in?
Speaker 1 (26:24):
IT a lot of.
Speaker 15 (26:26):
INTEREST i haven't spent a lot of time on social
media today to see the extent of. It you all
Had justin And brian here today from The, vikings and
consistently the message has, been this is a unique opportunity
to represent my, country whether that's THE us or another
country on this global. Stage all of them have watched
The olympics for, years seen these athletes on that. Stage
(26:48):
now that our, sport the sport that they play and they,
love provides them this opportunity to be on That olympic.
Stage it tons of excitement and probably a lot of
speculation around who could potentially on this.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
Squad, No i'm sure we will start talking about it
from now until twenty. Eight everybody has compared this to
The Dream team when THE nba Players Jordan Magic bird
played in The olympics on the world, stage and what that,
did even for, basketball which had always been a global.
Sport we know that, Football american football is increasingly a global.
(27:23):
Sport do you expect, that not just flag, football but
For american football on the global, stage that there will
be a leap now because of?
Speaker 4 (27:30):
THIS i.
Speaker 15 (27:31):
DO i, mean The Dream team had this big catalytic
effect and we're not necessarily comparing to, that but it
is going to make a huge difference because it starts
to at this big global moment where people around the
world have an eye on, sport you start to put
THE nfl And american football. There so to your, point
(27:54):
the impact on flag football will be, great which is
even different than. Basketball this is a new discipline of
our sport that it's growing so. Fast this will accelerate.
It but in terms of THE nfl and our core,
sport there's an opportunity that this is going to really
unlock that we never had. Before so we couldn't be more.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Excited one final.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
Question people are excited about. It team executives, Say i'm
really excited about.
Speaker 7 (28:19):
This this will be.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
Great i'm a little worried about my players participating in.
It what do you tell?
Speaker 15 (28:24):
Them the resolution that you all have that you've seen
and was voted unanimously for today addresses that, specifically having
a league wide resolution puts the guardrails in place to
make sure that the best practices are there in terms
of health and, safety in terms of all of the
guardrails that will allow this and teams to be comfortable with.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
It as you.
Speaker 15 (28:46):
Saw as part of, that it does limit participation to
ONE nfl player per team per, country which again creates
some of those, guardrails but, also through another uns creates
the opportunity for players from across the league and multiple
teams to represent their country on that. Stage so they
(29:08):
spoke today that they see the size of this opportunity
with the unanimous, Vote Great, Peter thanks Thanks.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Judy several other items also up for a vote as
the league meeting continues On, wednesday including The packers proposal
to eliminate the tush push in all other forms of
assisting the. Runner The eagles have made very clear they're
going to be one of The hope nine votes to
block the, ban although Tackled Jordan malata has a little different.
Speaker 7 (29:36):
Take, hey, goll let we run it.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Simple we, know we know the technique that we need to,
do we know where we need to.
Speaker 13 (29:44):
Be it's not up to us.
Speaker 7 (29:47):
And we can't control they rule it or.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Not but they're ruling the.
Speaker 7 (29:52):
Push, YEAH i guess we just go without the push The,
hey that's a, solution.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Agree have you just banned the Name Tush? Push would
that help? Anything rockberty doesn't. Care he just got a five,
year two hundred and sixty five million dollar contract official.
Today so how does that impact forty nine ers plans
heading into twenty twenty? Five Steve, White Brian balding Or
Judy batista all back coming out to break it all
down right here next on the inside us and is
(30:26):
breaking meing.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
Me it has been a, busy busy few days for
The San francisco forty nine ers and a very few
good days For. Brock party there he is signing his
brand new. Contract lucky. Guy good for, him he earned.
It it is time for count on it By. Toro
(30:52):
and we should also mention that as part of the
forty nine ers being very, busy not only Did brock
perty sign his five year contract, extension But Fred warner On,
monday which was only. Yesterday this day has felt very.
Long Fred warner agreed to terms on a three year contract,
extension which gives HIM i can't even read the. Print
(31:14):
it is so tiny on my.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Screen fifty six million.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
Dollars guaranteed very good week for The San francisco forty Nine,
ers locking up two of their key. Players let's take
a look at THE Nfc west. Standings, frankly the forty
nine ers needed some good news this offseason because it
was a rough regular season in twenty twenty.
Speaker 11 (31:34):
Four they went.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
From first in THE Nfc west all the way to.
Last of, course the hope in THE nfl and keep
hope alive because it happens every year one team goes
from worse to. First can the forty nine ers do
it again and reclaim the top. Spot let's bring in our,
Guys Steve weish And Brian baldinger to discuss. It all, Right,
WEISH i will hit you with this one. First what division.
Speaker 7 (32:00):
Is most of For?
Speaker 5 (32:01):
Grebs is it THE Nfc?
Speaker 8 (32:03):
West it is THE Nfc, West, judy because, look The,
RAMS i think they're going to be very. Good but
this is a ten win team that had the same
win loss record as The Seattle, seahawks who could be.
Speaker 7 (32:12):
Very good as. Well with some of the changes that they've.
Speaker 8 (32:14):
Made they feel that their improvements we know The Arizona
cardinals on paper looked vastly improved and they made some
strides last, year.
Speaker 7 (32:22):
And then of course they're the forty nine.
Speaker 8 (32:24):
Ers, yeah they've got some concerns along that offensive, line
but the rest of that teams still be pretty, good
especially because they've got that. Pedigree SO i think top
to bottom there could be a lot of shuffling going
on in THE Nfc.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
WEST i kind of think it's THE Nfc north.
Speaker 10 (32:38):
SKY i, mean if you think about going Into week
seventeen last, year The Minnesota vikings In detroit played for
supremacy in The north with fourteen to two.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
Records, yeah and The Green Bay packers were right behind.
Speaker 10 (32:49):
Them they won eleven, games went To, philadelphia didn't embarrass
themselves In. Philadelphia they had had some healthy. Receivers maybe
they might have pushed them a little bit. Further here
comes back To golden a bunch Of brooks that might
help that. Offense and then we all feel Like Dayleb
williams has got a good coach And Ben johnson and
they should be. Better SO i feel like that division
(33:12):
just be on the success they had a year. Ago
three playoff teams and the records that they, had that
one might be the most up for, grabs especially In
detroit losing their two.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
Coordinators.
Speaker 5 (33:22):
RIGHT i wrote about this ON nfl dot com this,
week AND i agree with, You. BALDI i think THE
Nfc north is up for, grabs all, Right, Baldy let's
turn to which division.
Speaker 13 (33:34):
Is the biggest.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
Lock let's see if you agree with, Me.
Speaker 10 (33:38):
Judy last, year at this time we were, saying are
The Buffalo bills in? Trouble they lost all these key
components to the wide receiving. Core all he did is
go out and win thirteen, games and if they didn't
sit their starters last week Against New, england it might
have been. Fourteen they've won the division four years or
five years in a.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
ROW i think everybody else is.
Speaker 10 (33:58):
Changing coaches and changing quarterbacks and changing general.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Managers trying to catch up to The Buffalo.
Speaker 10 (34:04):
BILLS i still see them the heavy favor to win
THE Afc.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
EAST i don't know that anybody is ready to contend with.
Speaker 10 (34:11):
Them, jeff she had is a vibe for their sixth
straight division.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
Title.
Speaker 8 (34:15):
Paldy you KNOW i almost went with you as to
what our old Friend Mike mack would say with the
low hanging. Fruit The Buffalo, bills, absolutely BUT i think
it's The Houston texans.
Speaker 7 (34:23):
In THE Afc south as.
Speaker 8 (34:24):
WELL i, mean they've made some changes that offensive coordinated
offensive line coach.
Speaker 7 (34:27):
To need a changes. There they feel really.
Speaker 8 (34:29):
Strong we know that defense is going to be arguably
one of the best in THE. Nfl but then what
else is there in the. Division you've got a coaching
change In, Jacksonville you've got a quarterback competition In, indianapolis
and a rookie quarterback In. Tennessee SO i just, think,
LOOK i Think Houston texans are going to be one
of the best teams in THE, Afc but, again the
(34:50):
level of competition in that division just stacks up for
The texans and that great defense to repeat.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
Again All, Right, steve we were just talking about it
a few moments. Ago every year we see a team
go From worcester, First who's going to do it in
twenty twenty?
Speaker 7 (35:06):
Four i've got to go with the forty nine.
Speaker 8 (35:07):
ERS I, mean this was hard just looking at the
other divisions and, saying, wow is there really a team
that can make that?
Speaker 7 (35:14):
Jump and the forty nine ers. CAN'T I, mean we
know they've got the. Quarterback last, year their issues was
durability and. Health if half of those players.
Speaker 8 (35:22):
Stay healthy this, year they're going to be in the
mix for THAT Nfc west. Title So baldy, again just
looking around the rest of the, league when you look
at a team that finished fourth in their, division to,
me the forty nine ers looked like the most appetizing
to go ahead and win their in THE Nfc.
Speaker 10 (35:37):
West all, Right, steve let me go and quote a
good front of, Ours Mike bayot there you, got oh
good job of the low hanging fruit right.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
There they also have maybe this soft.
Speaker 10 (35:45):
Schedule so WHEN i heard about you going To San, Francisco,
Okay steve could have the low hanging.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
Fruit how about what you just. Said how about Cam?
Speaker 7 (35:54):
Ward is the?
Speaker 4 (35:55):
Answer In.
Speaker 10 (35:56):
Tennessee all you know they were all the last year
three and fourteen got the number one, pick but also
you know the lost six one score games a year.
Ago maybe Cam war is a difference at that position right.
Now maybe his, ability he's able to do WHAT. Cj
stroud did when he went to That mormon franchise And
houston turned around right. Away maybe Cam ward might have that.
(36:19):
Ability SO i did go to low hung and hanging.
FRUIT i did a little bit more research And i'm
thinking Cam ward maybe he'll be the difference here and
we'll see.
Speaker 7 (36:29):
Tennis stop pat yourself on the, Back. Baldy you want
the low hey frou with the last, Segment.
Speaker 5 (36:39):
Steve, Baldy thank, You. Baldy that would be one of
the most amazing stories we have seen in years of
The titans go From worster. First thank you both. Guys
there was a little bit more news on The International.
Fronk we told you about flag, football but there was
also news on The Global Markets program And peter O'Reilly
joined me to discuss that as. Well, peter you also
(37:01):
made some news today in The Global markets program we.
Speaker 15 (37:04):
Did we announced today and officially approved that we're now
at all thirty two clubs are part of The Global Markets.
Program going into, today we're at twenty nine. Clubs now
we're at thirty. Two so The Buffalo bills now have
rights Across, Canada Cincinnati bengals have rights Across, canada and
The Tennessee titans have rights In.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
Ireland so.
Speaker 15 (37:26):
We're thrilled at now EVERY nfl club has at least
one country in which they have rights and it goes
down to that model of having a favorite team is so.
Important so these clubs marketing and building their fan bases
around the. World now every club is part of that
Great Thanks, Peter Thanks.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
GUDI nfl owners officially APPROVING nfl players participate in the
twenty twenty Eight. Olympics, today our Guy Steve whites sing
his number one pick would Be Bijon. Robinson, whites you's
got ten seconds defend, yourself ankle.
Speaker 8 (37:55):
Breaker nineteen hundred care bone yards rushing and receiving last,
year and he's someone who's. Young it's still gonna be
fresh when The olympics are here in twenty twenty.
Speaker 5 (38:04):
Eight the only correct answer Is Lamar jackson as the first.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Pick there are some different rules with, running but he's
dynamic in a lot of different. Ways the elusiveness is.
Key how you're gonna get a flag off of. HIM
i do know, this there's some guys at The Rookie
premiere from this year's class who might crack that. Team you,
AGAIN i want to thank. YOU i want to thank
your parents and all the guests that you.
Speaker 6 (38:25):
Brought this is a big night and we're excited to
be a part of it for all the rookies out.
There welcome to the fanatics. Family. Congratulations here is the.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Rookie premiere class of twenty twenty. Five this photo my
second favorite behind the head coaches every year at the
annual meeting In. March somewhere in, THERE i believe Is Travis,
hunter who's already gotten a look at his new. Uniform
here he is doing. SOMETHING i don't know What this drill.
Speaker 7 (39:23):
Is reaction.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Test of, course that's what it's got to. Be Liam
cohen's gonna do different stuff with him than.
Speaker 5 (39:28):
THIS i, think so, far so.
Speaker 16 (39:32):
GOOD i, mean he had a couple miss assignments today
that you, know he knew right. Away he came off
the grass and took accountability for. Him the one thing
he noticed is a guy that hasn't played a ton
of football or you, know been out conditioning maybe for
the last two months because he was.
Speaker 6 (39:47):
On a little bit of a.
Speaker 16 (39:48):
Tour the guy can run. FOREVER i, mean he just
kind of goes runs her out, runs back. RUNS i
mean you could tell he's he's in football shape and he.
Was you, know he's done a nice, job you, Know,
edgar the, Coaches ron milis those guys have done a
great job of meeting with them when they've had time
to do, so And travis has worked hard at getting
this stuff.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
Right The jaguarder are starting Out Travis hunter a wide,
receiver but they're also integrating him into the defensive, backroom
which raises this, Question, steve which of all the wild
types of two way records and otherwise The Travis hunter could?
Break which of? These could you see the number two
overall pick actually?
Speaker 4 (40:27):
Breaking?
Speaker 8 (40:27):
WELL i Love dante from our research department coming up
with a lot of these great potential. RECORDS i am
thinking in a, game a receiving touchdown and an, interception
whether it's on A Hail mary type of interception or
whether he's doing somebody. UP i think this is the
most realistic because he's probably is going to be the
number two overall wide receiver on his team because Of
Brian Thomas junior being number.
Speaker 1 (40:49):
One, JUDY i.
Speaker 5 (40:51):
Would agree with that, one BUT i would also add
playing twelve hundred snaps in a SEASON i think is
probably within. REACH i don't know if we're actually going
to get one hundred snaps per, game which he was
doing in, college and he seems to be perfectly happy
to try to do in THE, nfl BUT i think
he could get to twelve hundred.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
Overall, YEAH i did one of those lines on that,
graphic say start multiple games on both offense and. Defense
that's obviously even if he's not a full time player
on the, defense he's probably. Starting you're gonna have him
coming off the bench and being your dime. Corner you,
know if you're gonna put him out, there you're gonna
put him out there early in the. Game so give
me that. One and, honestly with how Good Travis hunter,
(41:29):
is maybe like three or four of the, others the
really interesting thing would, be could you potentially See Judy
Travis hunter being the offensive and defensive working in the.
YEAR i would love. That that would be.
Speaker 11 (41:40):
Awesome, yes just for the heck of.
Speaker 1 (41:42):
It just maximum.
Speaker 13 (41:43):
Chaos let's do, That.
Speaker 8 (41:44):
Stee you know it's tough for THE dv to do,
it even Though pats Or tea did it last. YEAR
i just don't think he's gonna get that many. Reps
and there's gonna be an edge rusher or somebody who
could do. It but he could get one of the,
two maybe the offensive rookie of the. YEAR i can
see that impossible.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Picks go a long way toward deciding those types of. Wards,
Judy we've got a lot more to come here from
the league meeting.
Speaker 5 (42:08):
Tomorrow, yes have you heard about the touch, Push, well
we might talk about a toush push.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
Tomorrow we're also going to have a potential vote on
some tweaks to the onside, kick maybe to raise incrementally
the recovery. Rate there's also something on the table about
reseting the entire playoff field to aay solely on, record
not just a vision. Winner we will be here all,
day starting on a good morning football and guess. What
The insiders live from here again tomorrow night at seven Pm.
(42:33):
Eastern we appreciate everybody for watching this. Show we appreciate
our crew hanging.
Speaker 6 (42:36):
Out.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Judy always great seeing you actually in. Person it's fantastic
to see you guys tomorrow
