Speaker 1 (00:47):
Draft week is officially upon us.

Speaker 5 (00:50):
We are live in Green Bay, a little over seventy
two hours before the Titans get on the clock. We
got all the latest news, the rumblings. We'll try to
separate fact from as the countdown continues. Lots of drama
still in the top five, including a big decision for
the Giants. Will it be Abduel Carter? At number three?
Will be Travis Hunter, maybe even Shador Sanders. Our front

(01:13):
office analyst Mark Ross will take it inside the draft
room to explain how ownership could factor.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Into these decisions.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
I mean, while Matthew Stafford's new contract is still not official,
but he.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Is officially back in the building.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
It's the Rams enter the off season here what Stafford
is saying now about why he stayed in LA and
how things will be different with Cooper Cup off the Seattle.
We're just getting started here. Welcome inside with the insiders
alongside Judy Matista, who is in New york Ian rapport.
Who's right next to me, I'm Tom Peliicerra. That's right,

(01:46):
that's lambeau Field back there. We're coming to you from
the broadcast booth.

Speaker 6 (01:50):
Wrobly.

Speaker 5 (01:50):
This would be Kevin Burkhart, Tom Brady sitting right here
right now. It's us at the fifty yard line. We
got a ton to bring you here on the show tonight,
just three days out from the NFL Draft, but also
what happens at this time of year. More players are
coming back into building. Seventeen teams began their voluntary offseason
work today, including several teams that also have voluntary offseason

(02:14):
mini camps. We got slow mo walk up videos. We've
got guys lifted weights. We've got snow frames of beautiful
men like Andre Yu Sivash.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
We're in just a sweatsuit in Cincinnati.

Speaker 6 (02:24):
There.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
This is the content you come here for. Football is
happening all across the NFL. Who is going to be
joining those teams, and we will.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
Find out right here during draft week in Green Bay.
You remember Caleb Williams. He was first out on the
stage last year, his dream coming true being the number
one overall pick. Who exactly, though, could be the number
one pick in this year's draft. It's a great mystery
unless you read literally anything on the internet. The presumptive
number one pick across the board in ourmock drafts at

(02:56):
NFL dot com is Miami quarterback cam Ward. But just
there is a shock. We've got reporters all across the
country who are going to be covering this draft for us,
and that includes Sarah Walsh, who is going to be
in Nashville.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Forests.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
Sarah, this has felt like a done deal for months now.
Of course, we can't say anything's done until the Titans
actually get on the clock, but it does sound like
they've been enamored with cam Ward throughout this process, and
certainly that would bring them the type of face of
the franchise they're looking for in Nashville, and they've.

Speaker 7 (03:26):
Been looking for a face of the franchise really tom
since Steve McNair left Nashville.

Speaker 8 (03:32):
He was dropped a.

Speaker 7 (03:32):
Third overall back in nineteen ninety five. So this has
been a long time coming for the Titans that they believe,
and you mentioned at the top of the show drama
in the top five, it doesn't feel like there's a
lot of drama at the one spot. I was told
by folks inside the building there's not a lot of
chatter around there about going one overall.

Speaker 9 (03:50):
No one's really talking about it.

Speaker 7 (03:52):
They said, it's very business like. And if they're not
talking about it in the hallways, that doesn't mean the
presumptive Number one hasn't been talking about it, which you
guys all know know. On playing Fortnite live streaming, he's
dropped some pretty significant hints where his preferred plans would
be Tennessee, using the Titans rallying cry of tighten up.
When Kim Ward was asked about the best receivers and

(04:13):
the best running backs in the league, he name dropped
a bunch of Titans, So it seems set that's where
he's going. For all the talk that has been had
about Shador Sanders and his teammate Travis Hunter and what
position is he going to play? Where should were the
best fit, It really feels like the Number one quarterback
in this draft, the number one pick probably in this draft,

(04:33):
has been under the radar, not in the spotlight. That
is not something you say often, especially not only at
that position, but at that potential selection. But this has
really been the mo of cam Ward his whole career.
He wasn't heralded out of high school, he wasn't recruited.
He went to multiple colleges and he proved himself time
and time again. And from those I've talked to, it's

(04:55):
very significant. Especially when quarterbacks are taken high and they're
expected to play right away. This guy already been tested
at every different level and it's something that they feel
good about.

Speaker 9 (05:04):
Worth noting.

Speaker 7 (05:05):
The Titans brass they are going to talk tomorrow, the GM,
the coach, the president, They're all going to talk tomorrow.

Speaker 9 (05:09):
I don't believe they're.

Speaker 7 (05:10):
Going to come out and say, yep, this is this
is this is a done deal and it's over. But
tom for the most part, everyone feels like they know
who is going number one to Tennessee.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
And of course it's not just the number one pick
for Tennessee. A lot of work to do with the
new front office regime. Mike Borganzi, the new GM there.
You're going to be covering it all for us throughout
this week and hey to Nashville very soon. Thanks Sarah,
thank you very much. That takes us to pick number
two in Cleveland, where there is certainly less certainty. You
take a look at the mock dress right now at
NFL dot com. Bucky Brooks holding on to Shanor Sanders

(05:44):
is number one quarterback going number two to Cleveland. You've
got Abdul Carter. According to DJ and land Zerline Chad
Ryder going with Travis Hunter at number two for more
on that. Cameron Wolf is going to be headed to
Beria soon to hang out with the Browns throughout draft week. Cam,
where do we stand right now with the second overall pick?

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Well, Tom, this draft certainly feels like it starts at
number two. We just heard Sarah talk about Cam wore
to Tennessee. Feels like we're at it that way. Well,
for the Browns, they get a chance to potentially take
one of the best two prospects in the draft. On
Daniel Jeremiah's top one fifty of Duel Carter or Travis Hunter.
It seems like those are the two guys from people
I talk to they're deciding between a dull carter. If

(06:25):
they took him, would form a potentially elite pass rush
duo with Miles Garrett and Man it would be hard
for quarterbacks to go against that bunch. But it was
interesting hearing GM Andrew Berry and people I talk with
the Browns talk about Travis Hunter. They compared him to
show hal Tani last week, probably the best player in baseball,
maybe one of the greatest of all time. And how

(06:46):
they talked about his position. They said they see him
as a wide receiver first and then a cornerback, which
is different than a lot of teams in the league.
But more importantly, they think that he is a unicorn,
a guy that can be elite playing just once spot,
and obviously if he plays two, he's different. I don't
think you talk about a player like that unless he
is very high on your board, and maybe the highest

(07:08):
on your board.

Speaker 6 (07:08):
And so what's intriguing about them. They view his ball
skills as a.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Difference maker at receiver, and so you look at how
he could be used.

Speaker 6 (07:16):
He could be a guy that could be.

Speaker 8 (07:17):
The face of their offense.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Everyone asks about quarterback what to do next that position?
I'm told they do not want to force that spot.
They've done a lot of homework and with a pick
at thirty three, they could get aggressive trading back into
the first round, first round if they have a guy
that they like that.

Speaker 5 (07:33):
Falls first time since the Deshaun Watson tred. They got
their full complement of picks. They got five in the
top one hundred plus. You can make a lot of
work with that in terms of moving around the draft board.

Speaker 6 (07:44):
Camp.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Thank you very much, much more from you to come
throughout this week as well.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
This all takes us to number three.

Speaker 5 (07:49):
I pick we've talked about a little bit on this
show with the New York Giants. Take a look right
now at the mock draft predictions. Remember this is all
depending on what Cleveland does at number two, but you
see Travis Hunters or Sanders have dou a Carter in
that mix as well. If they go quarterback. They've certainly
done a lot of homework. Coach Brian Dable was asked
today about the process of evaluating those quarterbacks and if

(08:11):
everybody in the building.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Is on the same page.

Speaker 10 (08:15):
Yeah, I think you know again the draft, it's really
good to start catching up as a coach. You got
a lot of work to put in these our scouts
and Joe have been doing a great job, and I'd
say that, you know, the process has been excellent every year.
There's really good communication, and not just with the quarterbacks,
with each position. It's okay to disagree. You're not going

(08:36):
to be disagreeable. And everybody has thoughts and opinions of
what they evaluate and what they see, and there's great conversation.
I mean, I really I really enjoy our process of
how we do it with the assistant coaches, with the
area of scouts, with the national scouts, sometimes the pro scouts,
with Joe, myself, the people that are kind of in

(08:58):
Joe's leadership group, our coordinator. Uh, there's a lot of
good give and take. And at the end of the day,
when you're drafting a player, everybody's on board with with
who you draft and the process of which we go through.

Speaker 11 (09:11):
Yeah, the hardest thing is the speed of the game
and the talent of the players around you. I think,
you know, I was able to play in the ACC
with the really good talented teams, and you know, it's
playing against some of the world's best guys like Luke Keikley,
and you know, you know, Hall of Fame player. I
got to go in these guys from Florida State and
Clemson and just different. You know, all time you know players.
But you know, I think the thing is is that

(09:33):
the game was super fast then, but you go to
the National Foot League's even faster. You're getting you're getting
everybody's best. You know, you're getting the best best player
in the accting, the best best player in the SEC
in college, and then you're getting the experience of the
veterans that are the all time greats, you know, from
wherever they come from.

Speaker 5 (09:52):
Russell Wilson's early in an unusual position as well, knowing
that potentially the Giants could be drafted a quarterback who's
serted them later well take his starting jobs.

Speaker 6 (10:01):
Welcome R.

Speaker 5 (10:01):
Mark Ross into the conversation. Judy, you're going to be
hanging out with the Giants through the back end starting
on Thursday of draft week. Here, give me your field
based on what you're hearing, based on Brian Dabeles' words, Well,
what a direction exactly?

Speaker 1 (10:14):
You feel like this is going to go at number three?

Speaker 12 (10:18):
Well, Brian da Ball was not giving anything up today.
He answered a series of questions the same way you
heard him say, like it's okay to disagree, just not
be disagreeable. He loves the process, he likes the communication.
He actually compared to making draft decisions to putting game
plans together, that you take input from a lot of people,
and there may be things that you hadn't thought of

(10:39):
as the head coach that somebody else brings up and
you say, oh, okay, now I see what you're talking about.
He would not address the question of if there is
a split in the room, what happens. Who makes the
final decision all Their general manager Joe Shane said last
week when he met with reporters that ultimately it's his
decision to make. He is the general manager and he

(10:59):
is charged with making that decision. As you mentioned previously, Tom,
the Giants have spent a lot of time doing homework
on quarterbacks, not just Shador Sanders, on a whole range
of quarterbacks really, except for cam Ward.

Speaker 9 (11:12):
They were looking at him very early.

Speaker 12 (11:14):
But then obviously moved off him as it became clear
he was going to be the number one pick. But
they've done a lot of work on a bunch of quarterbacks,
and so the question is do they value one of
them enough to take them at number three. Joe Shane
emphasized that when he talked to reporters, yes, you would
love to have a young franchise quarterback. They would love
to get one, he said. Every general manager would love

(11:36):
to get one, he said, But the value has to
match up. So do they value somebody Shadoor Sanders, for instance,
enough to take him at number three, or are we
looking more perhaps at the second round pick they have
the thirty fourth overall pick, or even could they move
back into the back end of the first round to.

Speaker 9 (11:55):
Get a quarterback.

Speaker 12 (11:56):
Still a whole lot of murkiness surrounding this pick, and
of course this feels like the pivot point for the
early part of the draft.

Speaker 8 (12:03):
No, it really does.

Speaker 13 (12:04):
If you talk about the value of quarterbacks, quarterbacks have
been quote unquote overdrafted for years, right, I mean every
quarter every year, every draft, there's a couple of quarterbacks
where you're like, well, I do see him as a
franchise guy. I just didn't think you'd be taken that early.
And maybe if the Giants take shaudor Sanders to three,
maybe that would be the conversation. The reality is, it
doesn't matter. It literally doesn't matter. If the Giants think

(12:26):
that shaudor Sanders is a franchise quarterback, they should take
him at three, They should take him at one, which
of course they don't have.

Speaker 8 (12:32):
They should take him at any pick.

Speaker 13 (12:34):
If you think he is your guy, take him, because
if you don't have one, you end up in basically
this conversation which the Giants have been in for the
last couple of years, of which they certainly are now.
The other thing I would add, and Judy mentioned how
closely the Giants have held this pick.

Speaker 8 (12:50):
Nobody knows, right, Like, of all the.

Speaker 13 (12:52):
Online speculation and all the sort of behind the scenes
speculation that you and I have done and contributed to
over the course of the best a couple of weeks
or so, I'll spend our next couple of days doing
that as well. The Giants have not said, and they
haven't told anyone as far as I can tell.

Speaker 8 (13:07):
They haven't been any secrets. It's just no one knows.

Speaker 13 (13:11):
And that's why number three is absolutely so intriguing.

Speaker 8 (13:14):
I can make arguments either way.

Speaker 5 (13:16):
Mark, you worked in that building for a number of years.
You know the dynamics, not just in any draft of
run Lee, but specifically with the Giants when you have
perhaps a disagreement, not saying that they have one, but
if you're split, if you're going back and forth, what
are those conversations like in the draft room and to
what degree, if at all, are John Marra or even
Steve Tish putting their thumbs on the scale.

Speaker 6 (13:37):
Hey, look, and this is not just unique to the Giants.

Speaker 14 (13:39):
Every draft room there's disagreements and every.

Speaker 6 (13:42):
Pick, even Tennessee right now with cam Woard.

Speaker 14 (13:44):
There's people in that building that don't think cam Ward
should be the number one pick. And that's just the
natural nature of when you have so many people involved
with these decisions. You have scouts putting in tons of work,
you have the coaches jumping in there, You've got directors
who give their opinion that there is going to be disagreements.
But it has to be healthy disagreements. It has to
be respect for everybody in that room, and most importantly,

(14:08):
everybody in that room has to know that there's that
one final decision gets made who that person is to
make the decision. I know every time there's a new
GM and head coach, we're going to collaborate, We're going
to be fifty to fifty Absolutely not. It has to
be fifty one percent forty nine that everyone knows when
that person makes that decision, we're going to follow that.

Speaker 6 (14:26):
And that person is a New York Giant.

Speaker 14 (14:28):
And Brian Dabole, he did a masterful job kind of
laying it out where he talked about his coaches and
then the scouts, and then he said, Joe Shane and
his executive leadership team, that's a new one for me.
That means ownership and that's something unique to the Giants
where the ownership are really hit ball.

Speaker 6 (14:44):
In what's going in there too.

Speaker 14 (14:46):
So they are a fascinating pick at three because we
know a duel Carter chaffis Hunter or is it still
Schador Sanders And even there there's probably people in the
building that love Shador and other people say we might
not be able to take on that personality and building.

Speaker 6 (15:00):
So that's the intrigue with the Giants.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
Real quick, Mark, before we let you go in your experience,
did ownership at the Giants ever override what the football
people in the building wanted to do?

Speaker 6 (15:12):
Now?

Speaker 14 (15:12):
They always we always kind of ended it up with Hey, John,
you good with this?

Speaker 6 (15:16):
You good with this?

Speaker 14 (15:16):
And He was always heavily involved, but never told people
exactly what to do.

Speaker 6 (15:20):
There.

Speaker 14 (15:21):
We made it the collaboration decision. Jerry Reese, the GM,
Tom Koff with the head coach. Excellent job collaborating, but
Jerry always had the final Hey John, you good with this?

Speaker 6 (15:29):
And he always was. He never said no, I'm not so.
It was always a good thing.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
Mark, Thank you very much. A lot more to come
from you as well. The twenty twenty five NFL Draft
presented by Bud Like Kicksoff Thursday Night Live eight pm
Eastern Time on NFL Network.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
You can stream it on an NFL.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
Plus, ABC, ESPN. You can't missit round one on Thursday Night.
Welcome back to Green Bay, Welcome back to the Insiders.
Tom Pilicero and Ian Rapport joined right now by Florida
state coach Mike Norvel. Mike, I'd be remiss if I
didn't say for starters here, our thoughts and prayers with
everybody in Tallahassee. I know it's been a very trying

(16:10):
week for everyone on campus there.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
We do appreciate you taking the.

Speaker 15 (16:12):
Time definitely, you know, appreciate your your thoughts and sentiments
throughout it. I mean It's been obviously a terrible tragedy
that happened last Thursday. You know, uh, you know, our
thoughts are with the victims and their families, but you know,
definitely grateful to see a community that's really surrounded surrounded
each other with love, and you know we will, uh,

(16:35):
you know, work through this and you'll continue to just
be there for the families and all the loved ones.

Speaker 5 (16:42):
No question part of that family there in Tallahassee over
the past several years, is ari A Thomas one of
the interesting names in this NFL draft, maybe even somebody
will here come off the board in round one. He
just became a full time starter for you last year.
Just take me through what allowed him to take that
leap to what some NFL team is going to begin it.

Speaker 15 (16:59):
Yeah, a A is a great player. You know, a
guy that you know came in and played as a
true freshman. You know, was was.

Speaker 16 (17:05):
Really kind of a third corner role.

Speaker 15 (17:07):
You know, we had Ernardo Green, Uh, you know, Jarrion
Jones that you know, guys that you have been able
to come in and uh you have a great impact
and you know, guys that are now playing there at
the next level. But as a you know really you
came in as a freshman. You know it was a
dual threat in high school. Your receiver you know dB
and you know just you was an ultimate technician. You
guy that's got a great, great mind for the game.

(17:29):
You is a is a real competitor, you know, has
got you know, just I think an elite level upside
as he continues to grow, you know, just in his
in his reps and in the game experience. But you
definitely was a great player for us a year ago.
And and a guy that you know handles his business
and and just in all facets of the game.

Speaker 13 (17:50):
Another player who has been a big time player for you,
Joshua farm another one home grown in your in your school,
in your in your organization. Uh, we'll see where he
ends up. Going is Thursday, is Friday? What are NFL
team is going to be getting from Joshua Farmer? Based
on your experience within the last couple of years.

Speaker 15 (18:11):
You know, Yo, josh is a relentless worker and a
guy that has really you know, built himself into you
know what. I believe he was a great, great player
there in the in the defensive front, you know, extremely strong.
He's got you know, unbelievably long arms, you know, can
be it could be a playmaker there inside for you. You know,
I think that he's still you know, he's still growing
into in what his potential you can be. And I

(18:33):
think he's got the right mindset and work ethic that
whoever selects him is going to be getting a guy
that's you're going to come in and you'll bring the
right mentality, the right work ethic. You know, he's he's
definitely somebody loves to be coached, loves to be pushed,
and you know, I'm excited for what his future at
the next level is going to be.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
I remember watching him at the Senior Bowl. He's got
some of the biggest hands. Ten and a half inches
was the official measurement. I imagine when you're built like that,
there's a certain skill set that comes with it in
terms of how you're getting off blocks and rushing the passer.

Speaker 16 (19:05):
Yeah, he was. I remember, I remember the day he committed.
You know, he came. You know, he's a local you know,
uh uh, you know, you.

Speaker 15 (19:12):
Know, local born young man that you know when we
recruiting him is around I think two undred and thirty
five hundred and forty pounds.

Speaker 16 (19:18):
But I always remember his hands when he shook my hands.

Speaker 15 (19:20):
I said, this dude is gonna be a He's gonna
be a big guy whenever he you know, you know,
finishes growing and uh, you know, he's just so strong,
so powerful, and he's active with you know, with using
his hands. Uh, you know, and he's a guy that
I think has got a huge upside for what's in
front of him.

Speaker 13 (19:37):
You guys had some fireworks pretty early last year with
with Fisk and with Verse.

Speaker 8 (19:42):
This year.

Speaker 13 (19:43):
Uh, we'll see where Thomas ends up going, but certainly
seems like going the first night is very much in
the realm of possibility. When teams draft players from Florida State,
what are they getting?

Speaker 15 (19:56):
I mean, I think they're they're getting guys that are
gonna be ready, and you know, as they've you think,
I'm most proud of you hear this last years you know,
you know, we had ten guys that were drafted, but
the number of guys that came in and were able
to make an impact, We're able to you have their
presence felt and seeing them you'll be able to transition
from the college game to the NFL game was something

(20:17):
I was really proud of and you know these guys
that you know they got the right mentality when you
look at a Zari, when you look at Josh, I mean,
for for all the things that are in front of them.
I mean, it's it's been hard, earn't and you know,
they've been through the ups, they've been through the downs,
you know, and and they.

Speaker 16 (20:31):
Just continue to push and work to get better.

Speaker 15 (20:34):
And I think that's a huge part of you know,
as you look at that transition, you know, you know
rookie is going to face all of it, but you're
having the right mindset and approach.

Speaker 16 (20:42):
We'll hope, you know, guide them through.

Speaker 15 (20:44):
And you know, I think that that rookie class that
just finished up, I mean they've shown that they were
ready when they got there.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
Last thing for you, Mike, before we let you go.
There's always guys too on other teams that maybe you're
happy you're not faced anymore. You can just turn on
the TV on Sunday's, but you're glad you're never gonna
have to face in the college game again.

Speaker 15 (21:04):
I think he's pretty pretty well talked about, but Cam
Wored is that of football player, and you know he's
gonna he's gonna have a great future, you know, there
at the next level. And I mean just to see
the things that he was able to accomplish this last year.
You got a lot of respect for him and you
know just what he was, what he was able to
do U throughout his career, but especially this last season.

Speaker 5 (21:24):
Mike, Thanks again. Our hearts continued to go out to
everybody there in Tallahassee.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
We appreciate the time.

Speaker 16 (21:29):
Thank you man, Thank you guys so much.

Speaker 6 (21:30):
Of Godoles.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
It's Florida State coaching Mike Norvell. A couple of his
players could be coming off the board. Dija McCarthy did
not have to wait long for his name to be called.
One year ago, did not play because of a tor meniscus.
So how ready is he going to be in the
off season program? You're what Kevin O'Connell had to say
next on The Insiders.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
Or always ready throws and delivered at.

Speaker 17 (22:03):
My styles plays a gun slinker, always have been, always
would be.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
Ward with an incredible play.

Speaker 17 (22:09):
You thought you different our English. We went from the pocket.

Speaker 18 (22:12):
You make it too.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
It makes better touchdown cam Ward.

Speaker 17 (22:15):
And I just think the work that I put in
just showcases everything.

Speaker 19 (22:20):
How cam Wards does it.

Speaker 17 (22:22):
It's a hard football journey. Being a zero star recruit
is talking to it, and I'll give.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
Them cam Ward's having himself.

Speaker 17 (22:28):
A day cam Woard quarterback, University of Miami. Growing up,
that was, you know, raised the right way. My parents.
They've always supported me and everything that I do. They
never missed a game in all my life, especially when
I got to college and fly to pretty much every

(22:48):
game once I transferred out of state, whether it was
in Washington ten hour days having to get to my
home to come stay with me before the game and
then Miami getting on two hour flights, or whether we're
playing in the West Coast or on the East coast,
doing everything they need to get to my game. They'll
always continue to support me, and I'm grateful. I don't

(23:14):
play it on stock theme. I got a lot more though.
You know, I want to accomplish in my football life,
put my head down every day and keep working. Draft
night is going to mean the world to me because
it's what I've been looking forward to save six years old.
All my hard work and myself and my family put
it to it. And you know, with your step on the.

Speaker 5 (23:34):
Forever NFL dot Com slash Jeremiah is where you can
find Daniel Jeremiah's final top one hundred and fifty prospects in.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
This year's NFL Draft.

Speaker 5 (23:48):
We only list ten here because one hundred and fifty
wouldn't fit on the screen. Travis Hunter up there at
number one for the first time on DJ's rankings. Cam
Ward checking in at number eh or Sandris if you're curious.
Number twenty nfl dot Com slash Jeremiah. The Vikings are
back in the building, and that includes their quarterback Jaji McCarthy,

(24:09):
who is back from him aniscous injury. Kevin O'Connell had
this to say about his young QB's recovery.

Speaker 20 (24:17):
I don't know if he'll have a day where he
throws as many balls as he was throwing during a
you know, two hour rehab session when he was pairing
that with running and lifting and all the work he
was doing with our folks here. So I think he's
already there now. It's just a matter of applying it
with teammates and with detail and with repetition to try

(24:38):
to try to apply those reps so we can start projecting,
you know what. Not only he can continue to improve
at what are the areas we need to focus on.
How can we craft this offense to make sure that
we're doing the things that he does well naturally while
also challenging him to grow that pot of inventory that
we can ultimately pull from.

Speaker 5 (24:59):
Time for ask The ACE is presented by ACE Hardware,
Tom Pella Sero When and Rappidport back here in Green Bay,
the side of the NFL Draft, joined by Judy Batista
and Judy come to you on this not just the
health update, but Kevin O'Connell talking about building this offense
around what JJ McCarthy does best. I know they've said
it over and over for the past couple of months here,

(25:19):
but certainly seems like a high degree of confidence in
Minnesota about the trajectory and the path McCarthy's on right now.

Speaker 12 (25:27):
Yeah, we have spent an awful lot of time for
the last few months talking about would Aaron Rodgers be
in play there?

Speaker 9 (25:34):
The way he was talking is clear.

Speaker 12 (25:37):
Even though they have not declared him the starter, it
is clear they are going forward with JJ McCarthy as
the starter. As you pointed out, they're talking about growing
the package of plays that he is comfortable with. To me,
the biggest takeaway was this was about as positive a
health report as you could possibly have hoped for for
JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 9 (25:55):
No limitations. They said, he is a full go.

Speaker 12 (25:58):
Obviously they have a plan for how they're going to
ramp him up here, but none of the physical limitations
that you might have feared coming off a knee injury
are in play. So we are going to get JJ
McCarthy preparing to be a starting quarterback from the first snap, from.

Speaker 9 (26:14):
The very first day.

Speaker 12 (26:15):
That's really important for the Vikings. Again, I just thought
the whole tone of Kevin O'Connell's remarks were about JJ
McCarthy is the guy. They're going to build the offensive
around him. They're going to see what he is comfortable with.
Stop thinking about who else might be the quarterback. They're
going to bring in another quarterback just for depth, But
it is JJ McCarthy's show.

Speaker 5 (26:38):
With McCarthy injured last season, of course, that meant Sam
Darnold was the starting quarterback wire to wire on a
Vikings team that won fourteen games and earned Donald a
big payday in Seattle. He's now reunited with a guy
that he's known a long time. Members of the same
draft class, Drew Locke heading back there as the backup.
Sam Howell also still in the room. Does that mean,

(27:01):
John Schneider that you're done at the QB position.

Speaker 21 (27:05):
It's it's hard excuse me to maneuver around with quarterbacks
to get to a call it like a safe, safe place,
you know, where you feel like you're in an ideal
world of acquiring quarterbacks. It's just I've talked about it before,
and we've going drafted too. It's just, you know, to

(27:26):
Bryan's point, you gotta be careful, like how far you
push those guys?

Speaker 8 (27:30):
So, but no, it does not.

Speaker 5 (27:34):
In Rapaport, of course, was the person who couldn't name
the second quarterback that Seattle drafted besides Russell Wilson, which
led John Sneider to coin this the Outsiders a couple
years ago with to combine.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Do you remember who it is now?

Speaker 18 (27:43):
No?

Speaker 1 (27:44):
Still Alex Magoo is the answer. You hear that here.

Speaker 5 (27:47):
Obviously there could be interesting Sam Howell potentially even a
fit for the Vikings here. What do you make of
what they're doing right now at that QB position.

Speaker 13 (27:54):
It does sound like Sam Howe probably gonna end up
traded or or maybe released and you know, for the
Seattle Seahawks, one of the hardest thing to gauge going
into this draft is will Seattle take a quarterback because they.

Speaker 8 (28:04):
Always do the homework.

Speaker 13 (28:06):
We're so used to this, but ahead Russell Wilson for
years and years and still.

Speaker 8 (28:10):
John Shunner was at every quarterback pro day.

Speaker 13 (28:12):
You start to question, like, why Schneider there isn't he
It's like, yes, they always do the quarterback homework. What's
interesting here is they have done a lot of the
work on some of the quarterbacks who may get drafted
outside the first round. We'll see where Jalen Milroe, for instance,
ends up going.

Speaker 8 (28:27):
He recently had a visit with Seattle.

Speaker 13 (28:29):
That's someone who would make a lot of sense, especially
because they're a team that runs the ball so well.
Could he come in get drafted there maybe a potential
future starter who knows or at least someone they could
come and use the run game right off the bat.
Wouldn't be surprised at that some of the other quarterbacks,
maybe the Jackson Darts of the world, Quinn you, or
some of the other guys you might consider second maybe

(28:52):
third round. I won't be surprised at all if Seattle
ends up taking a quarterback.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
And Colts did all their work on the quarterback position
a couple of years ago. It's safe to say it's
been a bumpy ride so far for Anthony Richardson, driven
in large part based upon the injuries that have prevented
him from getting the reps that he sorely needed. After
only starting thirteen games at the University of Florida. This offseason,
they brought in Daniel Jones. Chris Ballard said it's an
open competition. Here's what Ballard had to say today about

(29:18):
how he envisions all this plan out.

Speaker 22 (29:22):
I think every year, I mean, like, you don't ever
want to pass up one pass up a player you
think's got a chance to be really good.

Speaker 8 (29:29):
I think you can say that for every position.

Speaker 22 (29:30):
But especially at quarterback, like I mean, he's like I mean,
I think Green Bay has done just in their history
done it, you know, back to Ron Wolf, to Ted
to Brian Now. You know, even when they didn't need one,
if they if one hit on the board that they
liked and believed, then they.

Speaker 8 (29:47):
Would take him.

Speaker 22 (29:48):
And I think you've got to keep an open mind
to that.

Speaker 5 (29:52):
Judy Bay or sell on the cold snout drafting another
quarterback to that room.

Speaker 12 (30:00):
Have you noticed nobody is actually slamming the door on
taking a quarterback, Like nobody will ever rule out, like, yeah,
if there's one we like, we'll just take them anyway.
I think the much more likely thing is that they're
going to build around their quarterback room in Indianapolis and
let Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones fight it out all
the way through training camp, he said. Chris Ballard said

(30:21):
no preconceived notions going into.

Speaker 9 (30:23):
This quarterback battle.

Speaker 12 (30:24):
They wanted to be a true competition for those two.
Certainly part of having Daniel Jones there is I am
sure they are hoping his grinding, his work ethic, the
way he approaches being a starting quarterback will rub off
on Anthony Richardson because frankly that was a bit of
a concern for him early in his career. Perhaps that

(30:44):
has slowed his development. You have to think that in
their heart of hearts, they would like Anthony Richardson to
prevail here.

Speaker 9 (30:52):
He's a draft pick.

Speaker 12 (30:53):
Obviously a lot of people have invested a lot of
time in his development. But this is a team that
also needs to win, and this in a division that
is very winnable every year. So if they come out
of training camp and they think Daniel Jones, at least
for the beginning, can give them better chance of winning
some games, you got to think that that will go

(31:14):
Daniel Jones's way. The other thing Chris Ballard said is
he imagines that both of them will likely help the
team this season, So that's something to keep an eye on.

Speaker 9 (31:24):
They don't seem to be shying away.

Speaker 12 (31:26):
From the possibility that both of them could be a
starting quarterback at some point.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
We are live here in Green Bay, where the countdown
continues to the twenty twenty five NFL Draft, presented by
bud Light. To watch all seven rounds cross three days

The draft journey is the most demanding and inspiring job
interview process in the world of sports. In an exclusive
news series, NFL Media takes you along for the ride
with two exceptional prospects. Dylan Gabriel, quarterback from Oregon, and

(32:16):
Luther Burton, third receiver from Missouri.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
Here's a sneak peek as they embark.

Speaker 5 (32:21):
On their draft journey in Destination, Green Bay, presented by Toyota.

Speaker 8 (32:30):
Yeah, we're like four weeks away from the draft.

Speaker 6 (32:32):
I don't think it hit me yet. You know, dim
about to get drafted.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
We're the twenty first pick in the NFL Draft.

Speaker 18 (32:41):
Today we finished our last part of the pro day,
the last event in the pre draft process.

Speaker 8 (32:48):
Helen, what's up, my brother?

Speaker 6 (32:49):
How you doing? It feels great to be back in Missoo.

Speaker 8 (32:52):
You know, see my old teammates kind.

Speaker 18 (32:55):
Of a lot to take in on that this is
your last time throwing truly in the in the Ducks uniform.

Speaker 17 (33:00):
Real, this is where the standards are said.

Speaker 20 (33:05):
This is where we find out your next pack in
our life.

Speaker 18 (33:09):
All that work that you put in for this dream
that you want to accomplish, and man, this is it.

Speaker 17 (33:14):
Johnny's comes in the air and no one's beginning.

Speaker 5 (33:22):
Time to play a little fact or fiction now as
our coverage continues from here in Green Bay. Tom Pillar
Ceroian Rappaport on the Insiders, I'm gonna make a statement, Okay,
we're gonna put a lower third that everybody can aggregate
and thinking that you're actually saying, but really you're gonna
tell us whether it's fact or fiction.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
Let's start out with this.

Speaker 5 (33:39):
Ashton Genty, Boise State running back will be the first
skill position player, not including the quarterback off the board.

Speaker 13 (33:45):
First of all, these are not source supports, more like
my general feels, So don't aggregate.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
People are watching this at happy hour with the sound off,
so they're just catching maybe the close captions.

Speaker 8 (33:53):
Ron I will go with fiction.

Speaker 13 (33:55):
Ashton Genty awesome player, a lot of team's first overall player,
just regardless of position, but because of the position he plays,
I will say this, I wouldn't be surprised if we
see another offensive skill player first. Tetuo McMillan is a
guy to watch, I would say, based on my thoughts
right now, based on the teams I've spoken with, I

(34:16):
wouldn't be surprised at all if t mac is a
top ten pick, maybe just a little bit before Genti,
who again everybody loves.

Speaker 5 (34:24):
All right, how about this one here, you're just talked
about a wide receiver fact or fiction. The Broncos won't
trade up from number twenty to get a receiver.

Speaker 8 (34:32):
My guy Ben Albright's gonna kill me on this one.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
I will say fiction.

Speaker 13 (34:37):
The Broncos will trade up, just my thoughts, not a
source support for a receiver. If McMillan goes early, Matthew
Golden is the one that makes sense.

Speaker 8 (34:47):
And I know that Sean Payton loves big.

Speaker 13 (34:49):
Guys, but he doesn't always For instance, Brandon Cookshu's receiver
he took in the first round.

Speaker 8 (34:54):
A speed guy.

Speaker 13 (34:55):
Really stretch, stretch the defense. That's a comp here. If
the Broncos have been making noise about trading up, we'll
see if it actually happens. But trading up for Golden
is at least something that I could see Sean Payton.

Speaker 8 (35:08):
And the Broncos doing. They're always aggressive.

Speaker 5 (35:10):
Last one fact or fiction. Three offensive tackles go in
the top ten.

Speaker 8 (35:15):
This is a fact.

Speaker 13 (35:16):
This is a fact, and there seems to be to me,
at least they could census among teams that there are
three excellent, excellent offensive tackles. You have Campbell, you have Membo,
and then you have Banks from Texas. I wouldn't be
surprised at all if they go in the top ten.
With the Bears potentially taking the last one. Maybe that
ends up being Calvin Bench.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
Playing on the left tackle.

Speaker 13 (35:37):
Don't worry about that side of the ball for the
next ten years. I won't be surprised if we see
three going in the top eight. It's a very very
talented trio of tackles.

Speaker 5 (35:45):
A lot more to come throughout this week and specifically tonight.
Right here on the Insiders from live at lambeau Field,
site of being twenty to twenty five NFL Draft, you
gotta go way back sixteen years to find Matthew Stafford
going number one overall to the Detroit Lions. He's still rolling,
He's gonna have a new contract, and he's gonna have

(36:06):
some new receivers.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
Here's thoughts.

Speaker 23 (36:07):
Next on the Insiders, Ward, he looks, he stands, he fires,
Sport's gonna take off.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
Here's the wheels cam Ward quarterback.

Speaker 19 (36:22):
What a brow back.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
Therefore, to the inside interced Travis Hunter, cornerback, wide receiver,
shopping the round. He's the best player in college football.
Travis Hunter, dark hair down, he.

Speaker 9 (36:40):
Go ab dual Carter's edge and.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
What they stopped? A Carter? A city that gents got gents.

Speaker 18 (36:52):
Ashton Genty running back.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
You wanna run for Ashton Gendeven.

Speaker 12 (37:02):
Take a sneak peek at our new content series where
Brock Perdy and Daniel Jeremiah breakdown game film and talk
about this year's NFL draft prospects.

Speaker 9 (37:11):
All with the help of Toyota.

Speaker 12 (37:13):
Be sure to check out going Places presented by Toyota
on DJ's social account at Move the Sticks.

Speaker 18 (37:23):
Obviously, the expectations that he's had, you know, throughout his
college career and then taking Colorado to new heights like that,
you know that's not easy.

Speaker 5 (37:31):
The knock is a little bit of the arm strength,
and then you know, holding the ball took a lot
of sacks.

Speaker 18 (37:36):
With my experience of playing, like if I can show
my guys you know that I can get hit and
then keep going, that just shows a lot about you know,
your leadership and just being able to learn to get
the ball out play within the timing of the offense
and concepts. I think those are things that he has
and will continue to learn and develop.

Speaker 17 (37:52):
No doubt.

Speaker 12 (37:57):
From one NFC West quarterback to another. That is Matthew
Stafford reporting for duty at the start of the LA
Rams off season programming. He of course provised his contract
keeps him with the Rams in twenty twenty five and
probably perhaps beyond. Let's hear from Stafford himself on the
possibility that the Rams drafter quarterback.

Speaker 6 (38:19):
This year.

Speaker 19 (38:21):
You know, as I get older, you're just trying to
do whatever I can to make sure that, you know,
as training camp starts, I'm really fresh, both mentally and physically.
So that's kind of what this whole time of year
will be geared around for me. Obviously, getting work with
the guys, being around them as much as I can
culturally is a great thing. And then obviously getting to
work with some of the guys like DeVante and to

(38:43):
two in some new spots and doing all that kind
of stuff will be will be beneficial. But as is
every year, it kind of it goes as it goes.
You know, we're gonna figure out who we're going to
draft here at the end of the week. We'll have
new guys in and get in time with those guys
is obviously important.

Speaker 21 (38:57):
As well.

Speaker 12 (39:00):
We'll welcome back our very own Mark Ross, who did
his one and only mock draft, and Mark, you have
the Rams getting a new weapon for Matthew Stafford.

Speaker 14 (39:10):
Yeah, we got to take advantage of this time frame.
Here at Matthew Stafford still playing at a high level judy.

Speaker 6 (39:15):
If we remember last year in.

Speaker 14 (39:16):
The playoffs, they gave the Eagles all they could handle.
Sakwon Bartlet, he went crazy in the snow. But the
Rams season really was beyond expectations with so many young
players on defense have done an outstanding job in the
last couple of years with the Verse and youngs of
the Kobe s Turners of the world. Well, now we
got to help out Matthew Stafford for this one last
shot or two and they lost. Of course, Cooper Cup,

(39:39):
Whoka Nakua's back brought in Devonte Adams.

Speaker 6 (39:41):
Let's give him another Matthew, and that's Matthew.

Speaker 14 (39:43):
Golden out of Texas, who is kind of known as
a speacher because he ran so fast as the combine judy,
but he really did most of his work in the slot,
really has an outstanding feel inside there and working the
middle and against zones. And then he as shows you
the blazing speed when needed to. So when you already
have those compliments I pluging the Coup and Devonte Adams,

(40:04):
you kind of know what they're going to bring to you.

Speaker 6 (40:06):
Tou tou at well. I think Matthew Golden will give
them a much.

Speaker 14 (40:09):
Much better version of what they would expect out of
two to two, and then Tu tou can be your
fourth guy, which will make your offense even stronger. So
forget about a quarterback in the future. Don't think you
want will be right there in the mix anyway for them.
Let's help out Matthew Stafford.

Speaker 12 (40:24):
Indeed, Mark Ross, I'm sure we are going to be
hearing a lot more from you in the next few days.

Speaker 9 (40:29):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 5 (40:31):
Cam Jurgens just got paid, continuing a pretty good off
season four years sixty eight million dollars, and he says
that the main thing he wants to get now is
TSA pre check.

Speaker 1 (40:44):
Welcome back to the Insiders.

Speaker 5 (40:45):
Tom Pillasero, Ian Rappaport, Judy Batista, Judy just the thought
of Cam Jurgens taking off his shoes, walking barefoot through
the tsay having to take out the laptop.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
Do you have two? Do you have three? What else
do you have?

Speaker 5 (40:57):
You need to take out your tiny bottles of shampooed
for that beautiful main there hard to believe that anybody
is actively making that choice, but glad sixty eight mill
should afford him that hundred.

Speaker 6 (41:07):
Bucks a year.

Speaker 12 (41:09):
I mean it's seventy eight dollars, I think, and I
think it might last for five years. I don't understand
not having it spring for clear to maybe global entry
if you're going to do some international travel. Cam, Yeah, congratulations,
and start spending that cash.

Speaker 5 (41:24):
You seem like a guy who might just not have
it for reasons.

Speaker 6 (41:27):
Now, yeh, it'd explained.

Speaker 13 (41:28):
I got tsapre, I got clear, I got the new
id thing that gets you through the different line, which
sometimes can be But let me just throw this out there.
Cam Jurgens is rich now right, sixty eight million dollars
over four years. He's going to make more in his career.
Is a really good player. You know he should get
a plane. He should get a plane. If you fly private,

(41:48):
I've heard if you fly private, you don't really need
to wait on security lines.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
They do need.

Speaker 5 (41:53):
That is you're may way more expensive than you think,
depending on what you fly.

Speaker 8 (41:58):
He's rich, he's now really rare.

Speaker 1 (42:01):
He's rich. He's not wealthy.

Speaker 8 (42:02):
He is wealthy.

Speaker 1 (42:03):
It's a lot of money.

Speaker 13 (42:04):
Cam Dragons, listen, Cam, congratulations on your contract.

Speaker 8 (42:08):
If you're watching this. Now fly private. They do a
net Jet says, a really nice job. There's a couple other.

Speaker 1 (42:15):
Three days from the NFL Draft.

Speaker 5 (42:17):
I'm just talking three days from the NFL Draft tomorrow
and the Insiders. Mario Christobal, head coach of Miami, coach
the number one pick, potentially presumptive cam Or. He's going
to join the show, and so much more. For Judy Ian,
I'm tom see you
