Speaker 1 (00:01):
It has been one hundred years since a repeat champion
has taken the crown in the NFC.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Maybe not that long, but it's been a long time.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
And we're gonna have the same conversation we've had the
last twenty or so years. Who can knock off the
defending champion Eagles In the NFC East. Mark Ross will
be along to join us to talk about that.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
He worked for two NFC East teams in his time.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
The Texans have won the AFC South back to back years,
but the Titans and the Jaguars they're coming, They're.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Announcing their presence.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
We're going to talk about the progress for cam Ward,
Travis Hunter and those two teams down there in the
AFC South. And the greatest get in the history of
the Insiders, Ravens linebacker Kyle van Noy gonna join us.
We'll explain why it's such a great get. It's actually
pretty fitting. Hang in there, you'll see that coming up shortly.
Welcome inside with the Insiders. Mike Garafalo here taking you
(00:57):
through another surprisingly busy day.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
In the NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Even though nobody's in mini camp and we're still a
couple of weeks away from training camp. It just never stops, folks,
and that's why we have invited Stacy Dale's, Sarah Watsh,
Cam Wolf, and the aforementioned Mark Ross and Kyle Vanoy
to join us. Travis Hunter just talked about the Jaguars
just a couple of seconds ago.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
This one we thought.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Might go down to the wire and maybe a little
hold out, perhaps leading into the start note deal done
on Sunday, four years, forty six million dollars. That's fully
guaranteed for Travis Hunter. You see only two more first
round picks yet to sign. The hope is that today
Baron and Shamar Stewart will get those deals done before
the start of camp. We're confident on Barn. We'll see
(01:40):
about Stuart. That's been a little bit of a tugg
and pull along the way. Meanwhile, Athay Richardson speaking to
two four seven Sports twenty four to seven to those
that know them well, saying yeah, I'll be ready for
training camp. I'm all good, he said quote not really
even a bump in the road.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I feel like I tripped.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
I fell, just got to get back up and hit
the ground running again. He better hit the ground running
because Daniel Jones is ready to take that job from
him if he is not ready, Cooper Dejene, he's still
running on that pick six from the Super Bowl and
rubbing it in a little bit at the Fanatics fest
over the weekend, signing a Patrick I don't know if
(02:18):
you're allowed to do, like, should you really be doing this?
I don't know, Cooper Degene. If you're a Super Bowl champion,
you do what you want. Signing a Patrick Mahomes card
saying go Birds. I mean, you know Patrick Mahomes, you
know the Chiefs, you know what they're going to be
thinking that one might already be up on the bulletin
board there in Kansas City, but we talked about the
Eagles and who might be coming for them if they
(02:39):
don't defend their crowd.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
It could be because they lost all these guys here.
I mean, this is what happens when you win the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
And also when you don't have a quarterback on a
rookie deal, you've got to make tough decisions across the roster.
So look at all that defensive line help that went
out the building, including Milton Williams, who've got.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
A ton of money to head up to New England
with that.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
I bring in Stacey Dale's and Mark Ross, we're going
to talk about teams that could potentially stop the Eagles
from repeating as NFC East champions. It was two thousand
and five, if I remember correctly, the last time we
had a repeat champion in the NFC East. So Mark,
I want to start with you, and let's start with
the Commanders because that's the hot team. That's the one
everybody's talking about. How can the Washington Commanders challenge the
Eagles this upcoming season?
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Little team that just went on that one trust the
trolly and then got crust them.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Love the off season editions there with star power. They
got Armie Tumsell.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
They got Deebo, Samuel who Diebo and Terry McLaurin together
with another year of Jayden. I like their chances to say,
you know what, we've strategic moves and we have gotten
a lot better.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
On the other side, you have a really good the
Eagles offense. That ship.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
I don't think they did a ton Stacey to really
upgrade that position. Got some veterans in there, but nobody
that really scared you. Roofensive side. But this offense should
be humming. They should be in every game and they
should be challenging theory just because of they got an
MVP candidate right there, Jane Daniels a going on for
the playmakers on offense.
Speaker 5 (04:13):
Yeah, Mark and Mike, they should definitely be humming. By
the way Cooper Dejeene did, he dunk on Patrick Mahomes
by signing his card. I think he may have. That's
pretty brazen as he goes into his second year. But
brazen that's a good word for Jaden Daniels because the
way he played last season, and he was remarkable. I mean,
you're talking about the seventh total offense in the National
(04:33):
Football League. They were fifth scoring, best offense, third and rushing.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
So what does this mean. It means your staff comes back.
It's culture, culture culture there in Washington.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
Fellas with Cliff Kingsbury, who marries back up with Jayden Daniels. Listen,
I expect to see after what we saw Daniels do
on the ground last season, eight hundred and ninety one
rush yards for this young man. He was impeccable on
the road, so he looked wise beyond his years. I
expect the tempo to go up with Cliff Kingsbury system,
(05:03):
they can be very multiple offensively.
Speaker 6 (05:05):
You mentioned McLaurin.
Speaker 5 (05:06):
They've got a bunch of weapons, a bevy of weapons,
a really good backfield, and I like what they've done
with their offensive line. Would you bring Laramie Tunsel into
the mix, who enters his tenth season, and then you
draft a young man in the first round and Josh
Connerly out of Oregon twenty ninth overall, and you have
Laramie Tunsel louting.
Speaker 6 (05:27):
This guy because of his potential.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
That shows promise for a quarterback that got sacked forty
seven times last season.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Terry McLaren and the Commanders locked into a bit of
a stare down here when it comes to the contract.
So we're going to have to see how that goes
into training camp. McLaren hasn't been shy about making a statement.
We also know what he means to that organization and
that team, so we shall see if that one gets
done before the start of training camp. Let's move on
to the Cowboys. And I know a lot of folks
(05:56):
Mark loved to have their jokes and they look at
Brian Schottenheimer and say, you went and hired a coach
that nobody else was really out there, but Cowboys believe
they've got themselves a guy that's maybe a lot more
ready to be a head coach now than he was
when he was a head coaching candidate fifteen years ago
or so.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
How do the Cowboys challenge the Eagles?
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Shot Rabergs to the outside might have been an unconventional choice,
but as rung as the players are in the life,
the room believe in the guy, and they feel as
if we're going to go play for him, you know,
it's going to work for them.
Speaker 7 (06:24):
Now.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
If he's good enough, that remains to be seen. If
the talent is good enough, that remains to be seen.
But if that belief is then in the organization in him,
that's step one. Now we're talking about the concerns where
I think Washington is ready, Washington is there to go
take Thiry down the Dallas. I still think there's a
lot of question marks on both sides of the ball.
Number one, will that stay healthy? You know, the guy's
(06:44):
been hurt over the last few years. Will he be
on the field. Will we be available? I know the
George Picking signing, but the ballast offensive line catered off
with the run games for so many years, that's what
they were known for Russian marks at the running back position.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
Man then on the.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Defensive side, they really have a mixed kind of recremation projects.
They are free agent with the careers and kind of
ers of the world, and the Biggs is coming back
off of an injury, Overshawn coming back off of the
injury two of their key players.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
So you know, they do have a lot of question
marks there now as always be competitive, They'll.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Be in the Knicks stacy, but they have that championship
being noticeing we are better than Philly, we can take
a step up to beat Philly, to beat Washington, to
beat the top contenders.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
That's been a huge question mark here.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
Yeah, it has been, and they've had a really good
attendance right here through the offseason. I think you typically
see that in the NFL with new regimes, right guys.
I mean we've seen that over the years. Everybody's wants
to get to camp to make sure that coach season.
But I feel like, just based on conversations that I've
had with folks in Dallas, it's been as seamless transition
(07:50):
as it can be for a new head coach in
the National Football League, and Brian Schottenhampheimer and there's carryover.
I mean, he was the offensive coordinator, his system stays
in place, and he looked as poised at the podium
as a new head coach that I've seen in my time.
Covering his last presser, he gave us about thirty five minutes,
which is pretty substantial as they headed into the break
prior to training camp. I'm really fascinated by their offensive line.
(08:13):
I think it's a young group. I think it's growing,
and it's the three Tyler's right, the three first rounders,
Tyler Geyton, can he take a step up the blindside
protector or rather on the opposite side of Dak Prescott
and right beside him Tyler Smith, and then Tyler Booker,
their first rounder who's absolutely nasty, nasty out of Alabama,
the twelfth overall pick for them, and certainly Cooper BB
(08:37):
in the middle, who I know Brian Schottenheimer has a
lot of faith in at that center spot, such an
important position because they touched the ball on every play,
and so I think that might be a little bit
of a hidden gem for the Cowboys mic as they
get ready for twenty twenty five. That offensive line.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Another anfcg's team that is looking at a guy looking
at a contract extension, just like Terry McLaurin and the
Washington Commanders. Michael Parsons in that deal with the Cowboys,
he was there for mini camp, even participated a little bit,
but to participate in training camp.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
He's made it clear need to get that deal done.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
So a lot of work still left to be done there,
and a lot of work still left to be done
for the Giants period. We know that right, Like, I'm
not even going to ask like, can they challenge the egos?
Speaker 2 (09:18):
I just don't think that's realistic.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
But what can they do during a rebuild to maybe
announce their presence a little bit in the NFC East Mark,
let's rephrase it a little bit that way.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Yeah, let's stay scenario the secondary. They're just holding that
in the fifteen points while scribbing the offense makes a
couple of huge plays. Again, Russell Wilson on the Goo Balls.
Sure to about Jackson Dart, At what point does he
(09:48):
get in there? What point do you say take the
holding off as they said for next year.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
I don't think that's realistic. This is about Jackson Dart
and the development there of Stacy.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Yeah, I mean he's promissing. This is real simple for me.
Can they actually score points? They were in the red
the Giants and they look different now in almost every
offensive category. Is Russell Wilson going to stretch the field?
And can they use their playmakers to create explosives? And
then can the defense be the explosive group that it
should be? This group up front now for these New
(10:19):
York Giants, they are going to be fast off the
ball as they rush the quarterback. Across the league as
you get and so you know when you add Abdul
Carter into the mix, move him around, make him.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
A weapon like a chess piece.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
I think that Shane Boden, the defensive coordinator, can do
a lot with this group.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Yeah you see that right there. I'll duel Carter posting
the game film from are you allowed to do that?
I mean, like we can't even describe plays in the spring.
You got guys posting cutups here in the film. But
you see the threat with three guys coming at the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
It's going to have to be a lot of.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
That for the Giants to really, like I said, announce
their presence in the NFC East. I know what this
draft class they wanted guys that had a little bit
of swag, a little chip on the show. If the
team across the board can start to play that way
and not be a team that the rest of the
NFC eason is laughing at, I think that that is
a positive year for the Giants. Mark Stacy, don't go
anywhere you are with us throughout the program tonight.
Speaker 8 (11:13):
You can get in suck, rapped up and dropped.
Speaker 9 (11:18):
He's been a player this year for the raven Got
to get him.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Let lose it.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
This guy is an old school metallity football player eleven
years from.
Speaker 10 (11:34):
Yum David, ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Stacey Dale's let's tell you what kind of get this
is for the Insiders right here, because back in September
of twenty twenty three, the Insiders just barely on the air,
and NFL Network had Kyle van neyd booked to be
on the he had to cancel on us. We then
discovered later that he was canceling because he was going
(12:06):
to visit the Ravens. Twenty one and a half sex later,
a Pro Bowl appearance later, a couple of Playoff runs later,
Kyle van noy is joining the program for the first time.
Joining the Insiders. We are so glad to have you.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
Dude.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
You're out in Saint George, Utah. Tell the folks what
you're doing out there, and.
Speaker 11 (12:27):
Welcome stay c Mike. Thank you guys for having me
on the show. I'm not I'm not leaving, sure, I'm
here with you guys.
Speaker 12 (12:36):
I'm enjoying the moment. Thanks for having me. Did it.
I am out here in Saint George, Utah.
Speaker 11 (12:41):
I'm having my dog tournament the Van noy Valor Foundation.
If you guys want to donate, if you want to
help out, you can go to Van Noyvalor Foundation dot org.
Speaker 12 (12:52):
It's awesome. We give back to foster Care.
Speaker 11 (12:54):
My wife and I started a charity about ten years
ago because I'm adopted. My wife's brother and dad are adopted,
so it hits home for us and we like to
give back and we're grateful to help out the young
kids in foster care.
Speaker 5 (13:12):
Kyle, I just I feel like you're just this ball
of energy. I mean, if you're not following this guy
in social media, folks, you've got to You're everywhere and
outside of football, Like, I'm kind of curious, are are
you going to do another water fast because a guy
at like six three two point fifty five take us
through that process as you got ready for mini camp.
(13:33):
How many times have you done it and what kind
of difference does it make to the mind and the body?
Speaker 11 (13:39):
Stacey, I love that you brought that up. It's something
that I've taken on. Now it's my third time that
I've done it. This time it was a little bit easier,
but at the same time it got a little bit
harder because the last hour, you know you're about to
eat and you're so hungry. But what it does to
your mind you get you just regain control of the mind,
(14:00):
and it's an amazing opportunity to get that spiritual, mentally,
and physical aspect, all of those things. You can even
shed a couple pounds of that's what you're trying to do.
But ultimately you get that regain and that restructure of
the mind. You win the mind, You win that battle.
You can win a lot of things. So I think
it's awesome. I think everybody should try to do it
(14:22):
and start small though. Let's start with like twenty four
hours and then forty eight. Let's build ourselves up.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
Yeah, I'm going to try to get to I don't know,
two hours without eating and then we'll see if we
can get the twenty four Kyle. But listen, I mentioned
twenty one and a half sacks over your last two seasons.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
You're tied for tenth in the NFL in that span.
You're at thirty three years old.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
You're coming all of a sudden up as a lethal
pass rusher now right, and really like you've been using
different roles over your career.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
What's the secret sauce.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
For a guy like you to be getting better in
that department at this age?
Speaker 11 (15:00):
You hear that we have a little construction going on.
Distraction see their distractions everywhere. We got to focus, and
that's not what I feel like I've been able to do.
I've been able to focus on one job. I used
to do a lot of things in Detroit, and then
in New England i was playing here, I was playing
there still making plays, and then with the Ravens, I've
(15:21):
been able to just focus on one job that's getting
after the passer.
Speaker 12 (15:25):
I've been doing it.
Speaker 11 (15:25):
I feel like I've been one of the best in
the NFL at doing so the last two seasons, and
you know, I just want to continue to shine and
continue to make game changing plays and continue to get
back into the playoffs and get to that last game.
Speaker 12 (15:41):
That's our team goal that we want to do.
Speaker 11 (15:43):
But for me, I'm just going to continue to try
to be a game changer. It doesn't matter. I don't
worry about the age. I know teams you know worry
about that.
Speaker 12 (15:52):
I don't.
Speaker 11 (15:53):
It's something that I've kind of swatted away the last
two seasons. I'm twenty one at heart. As Stacy said,
I'm a ball energy. I still got planning.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
You absolutely do. I mean you were the oldest player though.
Speaker 5 (16:09):
I mean, come on, Kyle, you were the oldest player
with ten plus sacks in the NFL last season.
Speaker 12 (16:13):
But experienced, Stacy.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
You've segueghed me perfectly, my friend, because like I'm looking
at you guys, I'm looking at O way, I'm looking.
Speaker 6 (16:23):
At some of your new additions.
Speaker 5 (16:25):
You know, when I think of on the back end,
Awuzia and Jay, You're Alexander and those rookies Malachi Starks. Obviously,
Mike Green out of Marshall is going to be a
good player in this league. What what how do these
guys fit into this zach Or scheme? Given what you guys,
how fierce you can be going into twenty twenty five.
Speaker 11 (16:46):
You know you said it right. Fit in because we
already have what we have. We're we're not starting from
ground zero. We're starting from where we've been, where we
finished last year, and we're going to build on that.
I think the chip on the shoulder from everybody on
the defensive side of the ball wasn't up to our standards,
and it wasn't up to you know, my standards either
(17:09):
as a player personally. I could always get better and
continue to be a better mentor be a better player
when I'm on the field, and you know, they're going
to have to fit in with what we got going
on because what Zach Orr is trying to do and
the places he's trying to go is to the top.
And he's a really good coordinator. He relates to players.
(17:30):
He's been an All Pro. Not many coaches are able
to say that and stand on that. He's able to
do that and to be able to have that stepping
into a room at the front is amazing. And you
know one thing that I'm super proud to, you know,
be his friend watching from Afar because being.
Speaker 12 (17:51):
Able to battle what he went.
Speaker 11 (17:53):
Through for the first ten weeks of the season and
not giving up and you know, staying the course and
believing he's preaching and then standing ten toes down. It
was impressive to see the change in him leading the room,
but our way of looking at what he's teaching and
his ability to get the most out of us. I
was proud of him, you know, as a friend and
(18:16):
as a coach, seeing that improvement in just one year.
And the sky's the limit for him. He's going to
be a head coach one day. And you can book
market right now because he is all about football.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Yeah, this is a clip we're going to come back
to and highlight because he's absolutely right about that. You
did mention a word there, Mentor, And you've got these
young guys, these young pass rushers, you got guys at
different positions. You and what you've seen throughout your career
playing in New England, Miami, Detroit, Baltimore Chargers that I
miss anybody.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
I think I hit them all.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
And the coaches that you've played for, and the different
positions that we talked about, like, you must have a
wealth that you draw upon to help these How does
it make you a better mentor.
Speaker 11 (18:58):
You know, I think I think you saying all those
different places just goes into the experience that I've had.
You know, you hear about all the stories of the
guys that have played for one team their whole career,
but you know there's a couple of us that have
bounced around and have had success. And you know, I'm
(19:19):
one of those guys that I've been able to help
out so many young players. You know, one guy that
I'm super proud about, he just got an extension this offseason,
is Andrew van Ginkel. Was able to hang with him
at the Pro Bowl this year, my first time in
his first time in both of us experience and that
being kind of my young my young guy in the
(19:39):
league and seeing the success that he's had in Minnesota.
Another guy who ended up getting a huge contract was
Christian Wilkins. You know, super proud of what he's done
in the league at the de tackle position. And then
growing with guys on my own team, you know, nam Di, Mattabike,
a Dafeo, Way, a Jabo and hopefully you know at
(20:00):
some point Mike Green when we spend more time together.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Kyle, you're obviously a two time Super Bowl CHAMPI you're
a pro bowler and you're a sack master. But there's
a lot of games. There's a lot of games I
got circled on your schedule, Buffalo, Kansas City, but the
Pittsburgh Steelers. I'm kind of disappointed you don't see him
til Week fourteen. But Aaron Rodgers, I'm well aware that's
(20:27):
a quarterback you've never gotten to and you think he's
one of your top I think, if I'm not mistaken,
one of your top five. Give us a little glimpse
into your thoughts on that.
Speaker 11 (20:39):
Yeah, I'll tell you a quick Aaron Rodgers story that
I like to get him back. It was actually when
I was back in Detroit when I was playing inside linebacker.
For whatever reason, the decordinator, who's actually the decordinator of
the Steelers, wanted to go cover zero all game against
Aaron Rodgers, and he caught us in and we're like, oh, well,
(21:01):
we got to run. It ended up scoring a touchdown
to Jordy Nelson, but he ended up walking by and
kind of tapped me on my butt, like nice try.
Speaker 12 (21:10):
So I gotta get him back for that.
Speaker 11 (21:12):
That's been there for ten years, but he's he's a
hell of a player. I think, you know, last year,
you know, everybody looks at from you know, a very
critiquing setting, which everyone should that they're allowed to do that.
But I looked at it in the sense of some
of the positive things he's done. I think he's a
couple of field goals away from having a winning record,
(21:33):
and I still feel like he's slinging the ball around.
He has, you know, the confidence of anybody, especially being
a four time MVP of the league. So he's coming
into that Steelers who are ready in prime to have
a guy at the helm, at the quarterback position to
take them where they want to go. I feel like
they have a good offensive coordinator with Arthur Smith, who's
(21:55):
going to get back to that grounding pound. And I'm
excited to see Aaron Rodgers the center to see if
he likes it or not.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
So you got Miles Garrett was to put Aaron Rodgers
in his Halloween graveyard.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Kyle van Noy, He's got a decade.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Trying to do.
Speaker 12 (22:12):
I'm trying to I'm trying to have any fun. You know,
I'm not going that far.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
I'm just saying the breaking news. It's going to be
competitive in the AFC North this year. Wait, it is
every single year. It's that kind of football in.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
The AFC North.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
But for now, enjoy some contact free golf. Enjoy what
looks like a beautiful day behind you. You guys are
doing great work with your charity. Kyle, We appreciate you
joining us here on the Insiders.
Speaker 12 (22:37):
My man, we made it done, Mike.
Speaker 6 (22:39):
Thanks Kyle.
Speaker 12 (22:40):
Now we're good.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
We got it done, Kyle Van NOI looking to get
after a quarterback near you, not this guy.
Speaker 7 (22:48):
Though.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
They don't play the.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Titans this year, the Ravens don't cam Ward off to
a fast start as a.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Rookie in the spring. It's about to get real.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Sarah Wallf is going to be joining us to talk
about cam Ward and the Titans expectations this season.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Good cares, boy, do get ball.
Speaker 12 (23:14):
A lot of stuff to work on the tape.
Speaker 13 (23:16):
You know, for the quarterback position, it's the hardest position
in all the sports.
Speaker 12 (23:19):
You don't know what's the chasing here.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
It's just the most wanted position.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
In all the sports.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Don't get that's a lot of people get the opportunity
to do it.
Speaker 12 (23:28):
So we're gonna turn the pick in here and make
it the number one pick. How does that sound?
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Well, he always had this dream I'm playing the NFL.
You know, we get a short amount of time to
play football.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
And people are gravitating to him because they understand how
bad he wants to be a great player. You know,
thirty two people in the NFL will get the chance
to do it.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
So non thelst kay Moore just a matter of weeks
before he is the guy for the Titans. Even at
brian Callahana, Tennessee haven't officially said that Sarah Wolfsh joining us.
Mark Ross is back as well. Let's talk about the Titans.
Let's talk about cam Ward Sarah. What you're hearing out
of Tennessee with how he looked in the spring.
Speaker 7 (24:06):
Well, first of all, let's start with the backup. There
is no lack of confidence. He was asked what that
confidence level is heading into training camp. Now, he didn't
even hesitate for a second. He said that confidence level
is at a ten. His teammates can see that the leadership,
the poise. Another rookie, Jim d Kay said that he's
everything you really expect.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Him to be.
Speaker 7 (24:26):
He says he has the presence, he's a good leader,
he's talented, he says.
Speaker 8 (24:29):
He throws it like you would expect him to throw it.
Speaker 7 (24:32):
And despite that rookie status, and you heard him talking
a little bit on the video. We just watched him
and not afraid to trash talk already, you can throw
that rookie status out the window when it comes to that.
Because Jeffrey Simmons, who is the leader of the Titans defense,
he got into it with Ward a little bit, got
after him and they went back and forth.
Speaker 8 (24:48):
Which really sort of sent a message to the team.
Speaker 7 (24:50):
And we're setting loves that Simmons would get after him
and let him know that he is there. Ask where
he believes he is improved the most so far, and
obviously it's a very short NFL career so far, really
just an offseason for cam Ward, he said, the protections,
understanding the protections, being comfortable with those protections, and while
the Titans and the rest of the league going to
be on a little bit of a break right now,
(25:12):
Ward said he wants to get back to work immediately,
so there's not really a time mark ross that he
can shut his brain off from thinking about football. Probably
do it for a couple of days, but he says,
it's on his mind all the time.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
No doubt, and that's what the great ones do. And
I love that you mentioned his confidence, But been around
a lot of players, got a lot of players that
have from false confidence. But with cam you can tell
that's genuine. But the confidence is always he's talking about
the team and getting better and making improvements. It's never
really about himself. So that's what I love. That's what
great quarterbacks exude. And I think for the Titans, I
(25:47):
think they could just look in their own division and
the Texans and CJ.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Stroud two years ago as a rookie.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
No one at that point was talking about that team
saying they're going to go win the division, win a
playoff game, and then give the Chiefs a lot to
handle in the playoffs. But I think they could just
look at that where the Titans are where you may
have some question marks about the overall talent, But if
cam Ward is everything he looks like he can be,
and I believe he can be, he can raise the
level of that whole entire organization much the way CJ.
(26:14):
Stroud did two years ago, much in the same way
Jayden Daniels did last year for Washington, same situation.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Nobody was really talking about.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Washington saying they're going to make it to the NFC
Championship game.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
So if cam Ward delivers on the field.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
And off the field, with his teammates believing in him, Mike,
the Titans can do some things.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
You guys talk about cam Ward's confidence, go back to
his pro day when in the middle of the workout
he turned right towards the Tennessee Brass and said, I
am solidifying it today.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
They had gotten a sense that that was the.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
Way that he approached things, but for them to see
it live and in person, they already got to look
at it.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
And now seeing it in the spring.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Speaking of the spring, here comes to Summers area, here
comes training camp. What was Brian Callahan's message to the
team before training camp arrives.
Speaker 8 (26:59):
He's basically, he said, be ready.
Speaker 7 (27:01):
So if you're a player in this league, this isn't
really a vacation time for you. Aside from taking a
couple of days off, he said, guys need to be
getting ready to ramp back up because now is when
it counts. I spoke with their former first rounder Peter Skronsky,
the lineman, about how does this team. When you look
at the record from last season, just three wenus. How
did they get motivated? He said, that's exactly how they
get motivated. He said it left a sour taste in
(27:22):
their mouths after last season. That is motivation anytime now
that you step out onto the field. He also told
me that this is a Titans team that has a
lot to fix and that has been the theme of
their off season. He said it has been Callahan's mo now.
Callahan talked about sins. He said, those are self inflicted negatives,
(27:42):
all stars, pre snap penalties, things that obviously meet with
this shirt on or what I would call if I.
Speaker 8 (27:47):
Was officiating the game.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
He said that they have been.
Speaker 7 (27:50):
Emphasizing getting those down. He has seen them trending downwards
this off season, and he said, what you emphasize is.
Speaker 8 (27:58):
What is going to change it. He says they have
emphasized those things dramatically.
Speaker 7 (28:02):
They really bothered him last year and with another year
of Callahan under theirs, as Spronski said, overall, this offense
understands better what he's going to call, why he's.
Speaker 6 (28:11):
Calling what he called.
Speaker 7 (28:13):
This is a Titan team and Mark just touched on it.
They finished last in their division the last two seasons.
They are tired of that. They are ready or change,
Mike Gie, Yeah, this.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
Is a big season for Callahan and the current coaching
staff to show they can get this season.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
This team on the rise.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
A little less than a month to training camp before
they get the chance to start doing that.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Sarah Mark, thank you're back with us a little bit later.
Speaker 5 (28:36):
Stacy, Yes, Mike. From the AFC South to the AFC East,
we go. That guy right there, the reigning most valuable
player in the National Football League, has had a very
busy offseason. He got married recently, Hailey Steinfeld. Congratulations to
Josh Allen Bill's as you see right there, report to
training camp July the twenty second, and until somebody can
(29:00):
knock them off in the division.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
They will continue to chase super bowls.
Speaker 5 (29:04):
As we bring in Cameron Wilf who knows all the
ins and outs of the AFC East. Cam, we all
saw it last year, right they go thirteen and four
of the Buffalo Bills. It was a fantastic season, and
then they fall short once again the AFC Championship down
by the Kansas City Chiefs. How do they get over
the hump at this young stage in your mind.
Speaker 9 (29:26):
Stacy, the hardest jump for a team is to go
from really good to great, and that's where the Bills
are right now. Josh Allen has done everything that he
can do. You mentioned that MVP title, but they just
haven't been able to get over the hump. But the
real reason has been their defense not showing up in
those crucial moments. Five straight years playoff losses twenty seven
points are more allowed by that defense, and this year
(29:49):
they're trusting a lot of newcomers to be the pieces
to take them over the top. That's something that was
clear throughout the spring, and we'll watch through training camp.
You start with that pass defense and cornerback. They drafted
Maxwell in the first round and he's had an up
and down journey in the spring, trying to win a
starting spot from Tradevius White, the veteran they brought back.
Speaker 13 (30:08):
They're going to.
Speaker 9 (30:08):
Need one or both of those guys to be able
to stop Lamar Jackson in the Ravens Week one and
ideally the Ravens and Chiefs in the playoffs.
Speaker 13 (30:16):
Also, in the edge.
Speaker 9 (30:17):
Rusher group, they went and signed Joey Bosa, thinking maybe
he's the last piece that can help them. And sack
of Patrick Mahomes on third down, well, he's already got
an injury.
Speaker 13 (30:25):
He's dealing with.
Speaker 9 (30:26):
The calf injury has kept him out of spring. He's
hopeful that it'll be back in July. But it's been
a story of Joey Bosa's career and having injuries as
of late. And so they're going to put a lot
of trust in their rookies. I know Landon Jackson and TJ.
Sanders their second and third round pick, they expect them
to contribute early. Has some conversations with their general manager,
Brandon Bean. He says, we think we have enough in
(30:47):
edge in the pressure department, but we're not going to
know until September.
Speaker 13 (30:50):
And ultimately, this.
Speaker 9 (30:52):
Team is not going to be judged by if they
win another AFC's title. It's going to be can they
finally get Josh Allen a different ring than the one
that he got this spring?
Speaker 6 (31:03):
Great points.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
Maxwell Harriston was a pick six monster out of Kentucky,
and so Bill's Mafia have some fun things in store
with that young man in the secondary. Let's shift now
to the Miami Dolphins that I guess we could say
and agree, perhaps Cam that until proven otherwise. Josh Allen
owns this team and that's who they're chasing. When you
(31:25):
stare down this roster, you're very familiar with them. What
is the outlook realistic outlook really for Mike McDaniel's club
at Stacy.
Speaker 9 (31:34):
Pressure is more intense on Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins
than it's ever been in this era. I've been there
almost every day this offseason, and there's so much talk
within the players about we're a different team.
Speaker 13 (31:46):
The culture's changing, the accountability is changing.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
Now.
Speaker 13 (31:49):
I've talked to some people in that building.
Speaker 9 (31:50):
Culture isn't a word they've used as far as they're
plan within the building, but it's sort of a bridge.
They're trying to show that this is a different team.
I went upon my homework there. I was like, can
a dolphin really changes colors? Turns out Amazon pink dolphins
can change colors. From a nature standpoint, this Dolphins team
is going to be challenged to change its colors from
(32:12):
a team that many people who played them thought was soft,
thought they were front runners, a team that scored a
lot of points but didn't have the toughness in the road.
And it was interesting here in Bradley Chubb, one of
their star defenders, When asked, why is this year different?
Last year, you guys said we were a different team,
he said, well, we were lying. Last year we maybe
dipped our foot into the changing mentality, but this year
(32:32):
we're going all in. I can tell you this. I've
watched them in camp. On paper, they look like a
team that is less talented, but they are younger and
they're betting on the development with these younger players, new leaders,
and the hope that we can do it from the
players to change that mentality. But ultimately we're not going
to be able to believe them until we see it
in the fall on the field.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
I know you cannot wait for those hot Miami training
camp days, Cam coming up right there July twenty second.
I know you got the fits ready for that. Thank you,
my friend. Great information right there. We got a lot
more to come on the program. Trying to take a
front office view.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
That means a high, you know, angle view looking down
on things, right, That's what front office means. Mark Ross,
you would know you've been in a few of them,
and you've got an article on NFL dot com NFL
dot com backslash Ross to see it. Players guaranteed to
improve in twenty twenty five. So let's start with the
first one. And this guy did improve within twenty twenty four.
(33:32):
But I think you're saying even more in twenty five,
Bryce Young.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
Bryce Shaw, no doubt it. Rookie season, Mike.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
I never root for players, but his rookie season early
last season.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
I just wanted to give him a hug.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
You know, the confidence that you saw at Alabama just
was not there those last ten games. You saw the
confidence that was most important, that he was carrying himself
like a winner. In six of those ten he led
the team to either game tying or game winning scores
at the end.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
And then the production went up as well.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
Now you got Teed McMillan, the big receiver out of Arizona,
the big rookie in there to pair with Xavier Ly
get backfield a Rico Dowdell, great freeze and signing, and
go with Chewbuhover. A lot of playmakers at his disposal.
But most importantly, Mike Brice has got his swag back.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Yeah, too many chefs in the kitchen in his rookie season.
Dave can Allison and company did a nice job with
him in year two. This is an interesting one because
usually at this point of their careers, players don't improve,
but Deebo Samuel.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
Well, Deebo is still only twenty nine. Everybody's talking about
him like he's an old man or something.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
But most of it is because of the injuries.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
You know, when he was banged up last year. People
talking about the way.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
But maybe it looks different in that Washington uniform from
San fran not as slim.
Speaker 4 (34:42):
But I think with Deebo, if he stays.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
Healthy, he is in by far his best position, where
the best quarterback he's ever played with, sorry Jimmy g
and Brock Perdy, but a legit MVP candidate in Jadeen Daniels,
and then also the best receiver compliment he's played with.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
A legit number one receiver in Terry mcclar.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Get that contract situation worked out to go with all
the other playmakers in solid offensive line that Washington has
their year or two with dan Quinn's system. So with Debo,
he's going to stay healthy, Mike, and he's got the
best quarterback and receiving duo that he's ever been around.
Speaker 12 (35:16):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Yeah, the injuries, yes, and you wonder you put him
in a new system here, how much will he be
able to succeed? You talk about it in terms of
the quarterback factor. Maybe that's the biggest factor there for him.
So you put it there extremely well, this one, I
like Milton Williams heading up to New England and listen,
he has to be if you're gonna say from the
(35:37):
Patriots standpoint, all that money.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
Was worth it, well, he's got to live up to it.
It's always risky to say, well, he essentially he was
a backup. You know, it was Carter and Davis there,
the first round pick, so he was essentially a backup.
But he played like a starter and he played like
a legit playmaker. Can he continue that? The Patriots are
certainly paying him like that, and I think the skill
set he will do that led the defensive tackled.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
At pressure rate.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Edit, he really secured the bag might as we know
in the playoffs and then the Super Bowl with his
two sacks to go along with the whole entire revamp
Patriots organization, starting with Mike Rabel and all the signings
on defense with Carlton Davis. Christian Barmore is coming back
as well at defensive tackle Keon White another year there
on the defensive line. So I think Milton Williams is
guaranteed to pick up where he left off and earn that.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
Money twenty six million dollars per season on a four
year deal with the New England Patriots. I saw somebody
at some point saying, how did Howie Roseman let that
one get away? You can't keep everybody. They had too
many good players at the defensive tackle position. That's a
good problem to have. So New England says we'll take
one of those in Milton Williams, who is guaranteed to improve.
(36:44):
According to Mark Ross, check it out right there NFL
dot Com backslash Ross for the full breakdown.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
Thank you, Mark.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
I neglected to mention earlier in the show that the
Jaguars announced the signing of Travis Hunter by tweeting out
we signed wide receiver Travis Hunter and then a minute
later saying we signed defensive back Travis Hunter.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
With two different pictures of Hunter.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Reminded me of the Spider Man meme where two spider
Mans are pointing at each other.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Yes, he plays at both positions. If you're just tuning
in and if you're just.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
Tuning in that is Stacy Dal's, Sarah Walsh and Cameron
Wolf joining us to talk Jaguars. Starting with Sarah on
Trevor Lawrence's recovery that shoulder that he's been recovering from.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
Sounds like the Jaguars are confident everything's going to be
a full go. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (37:28):
Trevor Lawrence certainly feels that way.
Speaker 7 (37:30):
It's been a long time since he had thrown at football,
at least for him, four months off of not throwing
from a surgery that happened in December.
Speaker 6 (37:36):
He said that he's been working.
Speaker 7 (37:37):
On a few things, some subtle things his off season,
his footwork, not major changes, and then using his eyes
as a weapon against the defense. Little things that he
has picked up from video. Now you just mentioned Travis Hunter,
the freshly ink deal from him. He also has Brian
Thomas Junior, who had an incredible rookie season last year,
rewriting the Jaguars rookie record books and now you get
(37:58):
the draft Darling in h Lauren says that he's already
seen Travis Hunter grow tremendously during this off season, but
he said now is the time that he can get
his mind right, reset a little bit because he's had
so much thrown at him. And Trevor also said in
the next couple of weeks he's going to be spending
quite a bit of time with Hunter that they can
work on timing and then also just to be going
(38:21):
over everything in a new system, because it's not just.
Speaker 8 (38:23):
New to Hunter, it's really new to everyone on the Jags.
With the new head coach Cam.
Speaker 9 (38:27):
Yes, Sarah, there's a special energy in Jacksonville. There's a
special vibe and it becomes part of a team that
you want to see. Travis Hunter, that draft pick brings
a lot of eyeballs.
Speaker 13 (38:36):
And I talked to.
Speaker 9 (38:37):
A Jaguars coach a couple of weeks ago and essentially
asked what does Travis look like in camp? He said,
he is different. He's been an unmovable, unstoppable ball of energy.
And I joked a little bit with him about that
because everybody wants to ask can he truly play wide
receiver in cornerback?
Speaker 13 (38:53):
That is the plan for him.
Speaker 9 (38:54):
He played one hundred and twelve snaps per game at Colorado.
I think his conditioning is different. He has been working
on both sides of the ball, one on each day.
Speaker 13 (39:03):
More offense than defense.
Speaker 9 (39:04):
They wanted him to be a wide receiver first, but
eventually when he gets on the field in the fall,
he will have packages on defense and be a full
time receiver on offense. They think that duo with him
and Brian Thomas can be versatile and special.
Speaker 5 (39:19):
Yeah, and Sarah, we'll go right back to you. You
know Liam Cohen very well. He makes the quick trip
from being the offensive coordinator there in Tampa, three hours
north to Jacksonville, takes over as head coach. How quickly
can he transform things there?
Speaker 7 (39:33):
Well, look, he transformed things pretty quickly in Tampa. It
took him all of one season to go land himself
a head coaching gig. So the Buccaneers now, granted they
have a Hall of Famer and Mike Evans, they've got
a Baker Mayfield who's coming up now back to back
career years. And then they had a rookie running back
in Bucky Irving who went absolutely ballistic. But Liam deservedly
so got a lot of credit for getting the run
(39:54):
game going there in Tampa, which had.
Speaker 6 (39:56):
Been stalled out.
Speaker 7 (39:57):
Cohen told to see, they've got a lot of material
to continue to go over as they get ready for
this season. But aside from the x's and o's, aside
from the installs, Cohen said this offseason was ultimately about.
Speaker 8 (40:08):
Gaining trust with all these new players.
Speaker 7 (40:11):
As from Lawrence, Cohen said that there are not a
lot of plays in his playbook where Lawrence can just
shut his brain off and hand the football.
Speaker 8 (40:18):
That doesn't exist.
Speaker 7 (40:19):
He's going to have to think every single play, and
he said he's shown the ability to get the right
play calls off, and that is something they are going
to continue to work on. But look, the Bucks made
some pretty quick adjustments with Liam, and the Jags are
hoping they can do the same.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
Yep, the Jaguars hoping to catch some of that magic
that the Buccaneers had last year. Sarah Walsh, Cameron Wolf,
thank you much for your insight on the Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
Did you think team to watch this year? Not just
because of the Travis Hunter factor?
Speaker 1 (40:50):
Joe Burrow, Yeah, he can sling it on the football field.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
What about offense? This was surprising. You're gonna want to
see this coming up next to the inside data, shake
it up sick.
Speaker 4 (41:10):
All right?
Speaker 1 (41:10):
Look, I know a football is shaped different than a baseball,
but this is weird. This is like somebody who's one
hundred yard one hundred meters sprinter in the Olympics running
the two hundred and like falling down out of the block.
Joe Burrow should be able to throw a baseball better
than this, right, I mean, Stacy Dale's coming in here
because a lot of folks are giving him a lot
of heck for this.
Speaker 5 (41:33):
I watched to this video too many times, like that
is so far outside the strike zone.
Speaker 6 (41:37):
Let me get this straight.
Speaker 5 (41:38):
Okay, as career highs in like passer rating, completion percentage,
he led the league.
Speaker 6 (41:43):
I believe in passyards, Mike, he completed.
Speaker 5 (41:45):
Almost seventy one percent of his football's last season.
Speaker 6 (41:49):
This is perplexing to me.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
Absolutely, Yeah, yeah, he gets it eventually.
Speaker 1 (41:55):
He's got a little upper upper outside corner cheese right there,
or it's corner.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
If it's a lefty. But yeah, there's a couple.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Of weird It seemed like you couldn't like the differently,
Why is this thing going left?
Speaker 9 (42:07):
Right?
Speaker 3 (42:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Go submarine and definitely come back for us for the
Insiders on Tuesday, thank you for joining us.
Speaker 2 (42:13):
Here on Monday. The Insiders never sleep. Back on Tuesday,
