Speaker 1 (00:08):
April first, April second, excuse me, twenty twenty five, the
one hundredth time we've used Dak to the future there
on the teas to open the program. But we're looking
to the future with Dak, not to the past for
an injury riddled twenty twenty four. He's back on the
field working out. That is great news for the Cowboys.
We don't have great news for Trey Hendrickson right now
because the Bengals front office is publicly saying that he
(00:29):
should probably be happy with less money than he thinks
he deserves.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Now Hendrickson firing back.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
We'll get into all that drama coming up here on
the Insiders, as well as Jimmy Horn, junior Colorado wide receiver,
getting set to workout at Colorado's showcase later this week.
He will be joining the program later and that is
fifteen yards for a nose swipe, which is no longer
allowed in the NFL. We'll let him know about that.
Welcome inside with the Insiders. We better be inside because
(00:57):
we're all back home in New Jersey and New York.
It is freezing. We had just spent a couple of
days in Palm Beach at the NFL's annual meeting. But
Judy Batista and Ian Rappaport are here with me Mike
Garofolo as we get sent to break down all the
latest news around the NFL. And yes, even in April,
there is plenty of news talking about that league meeting.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
The other day, Katie Blackburn.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
The EVP for the Bengals, was speaking to the media
about the ongoing standoff between Trey Hendrickson and the team.
Hendrickson looking for a deal consummate with one of the
top pass rushers in the league, considering he is one
of the top pass rushers in the league. Sides have
not been able to come to an agreement. And here
is Blackburn on the negotiations. Here's the key lineup top.
(01:39):
I think he should be happy at certain rates that
maybe he doesn't think he'd be happy at. So Katie
Blackburn and the Bengals feeling like, well, we've made some offers.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
They're not at the top of.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
The pass rusher market, which is well into the mid
fifties up to the forties, but Trey Hendrickson, they feel like,
should come in below that. Well, Hendrickson had a chance
to take off a shot back at the Bengals and
Blackburn today on the Pat.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Mcaficial communication has been poor over the last couple of months.
You know, that's something that I hold in high regard.
You know, they have not communicated with my agent directly.
It's been something that's been a little bit frustrating, but again,
this is the business of it.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
You know.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
I'm incredibly blessed to be in the NFL, you know,
and I'm excited to be a Bengal, right, you know,
to have a year right that I have, you know,
remaining on my contract.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
We can get into that real quick.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Last year and the year before I've been talking about
long term contract, guaranteed money, things like that, you know,
and it was discussed with me in a meeting which
I'm very fortunate to have had with my agent that
we would get something done this year. So that being said,
last year, go out and play play to the level
(02:52):
you have, We'll get it done. That was communicated with me,
so that basically, you know, this year is going to
get worked on. They also reiterated at the combine, so
that just kind of clears the air on that and
moving forward. The happiness of my camp. You know, they
are more than welcome to call me. I've had my
cell phone, same cell phone numbers since high school. Open
(03:15):
line of communication has always open with me and my agents.
So if they have anything they'd like to discuss, We've
been nothing but willing to listen, all.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Right, Drey Henderson saying, you know the phone, don't tell
me you don't have my number.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
It's the same numb I've had for a long time.
Set to make what eighteen million this upcoming season, fifteen.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Point eight in base salary, I believe again, we're into
the mid thirties all the way up to the forties.
We're waiting on Micah Parsons and some of these other
guys as well. Ian As I kick it to you. Yes,
Hendrickson is a little bit older than some of these
other guys who have and will get deals. But seventeen
and a half sacks in each of the past two
seasons led the NFL.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Deserves to be paid, right, He.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
Does deserve to be paid, and the Bengals believe he
deserves to be paid as well. And there's actually a
lot here. There is a lot here, of course, it
is we're leading the show with it. Trey Henderson received
permission from the Cincinnati Bengals to go out talk to
teams and seek a potential trade. With that trade would
come a big time contract extension. The Bengals are going
(04:15):
to demand a lot, probably even a first round pick,
to trade Trey Henderson. That deal has not come about.
They have tried, plenty of people have talked. There has been,
for sure interest. That trade has not happened yet, in
part because the Bengals don't really want to trade him.
Speaker 6 (04:30):
They want to keep them.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
They want him to be happy, they want them to
get a number he wants, and they want him to
play for them, which brings us to the contract extension
they have had talks. It does seem judy that the
focus now on paying Hendrickson rather than trading him, and
his words are right. He does not want to be
the highest paid defender. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised
(04:51):
it becomes it around where Max Crosby is maybe even
a little bit under. They just haven't got to the
number yet where he would say, all right, ally and
properly compensated. The real issue here is there isn't a
contract deadline, right, I mean, there's the draft, which theoretically
would be the trade deadline for Henderson, the Bengals would
want something back this year. Other than that, it's just
(05:13):
sort of late July to make their best offer. So
we may not be done with this story yet, but
the Bengals do in fact want to pay them.
Speaker 7 (05:23):
Let's just give some context on Katie Blackburn here for
people who may not have heard much about her or
from her. The reason you haven't is because she is
usually a very reserved owner. Most owners, many owners do
these get together with their beat writers. During the annual meeting.
Katie Blackburn did, but she is certainly not an owner
(05:44):
who meets with the press very often. She sure doesn't
discuss contract situations with the press very often, and I
think that's what made these.
Speaker 8 (05:53):
Remarks all the more provocative.
Speaker 7 (05:55):
They were quite pointed, basically saying, hey, you should be
happy with less than and you think you're going to
get That's I don't know, that's pretty rough there for
an owner to say to a player when they are
in the middle of a contract staredown. Katie Blackburn said
these to the local media during the annual meeting. Trey
Hendrickson fired back, certainly the fact that they are still
(06:19):
talking about doing a contract. I think is a positive sign.
As you said, they don't want to trade them. So
the fact that they're still talking about, yeah, we want
to get something done. We think you're going to have
to take less than you want to take. All right,
at least they're still talking about money, But it sure
does put a damper on what had been an off
season of good feeling for the Cincinnati Bengals after they
got to Higgins and jay Mark Chase a Ton only
(06:40):
a few weeks ago. This has certainly dragged them back
to earth.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yeah, well, we told them all along, you're gonna have
to pay Trey Hendrickson as well as part of this
off season of paying folks sixteen million in total compensation
this upcoming season. Let me correct myself, fifteen point eight
base I was a sixteen million, not even halfway to
where Max cross. So you understand why Hendrickson believes he
deserves a massive pay raise.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Here.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
We'll see if they can get that done.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Meanwhile, Dak Prescott were trying to figure out what college
stadium this was, and we forgot it's Texas.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
That's a high school stadium.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Where Dak Prescott is working out there looking a lot
better than he did the last time we saw. I
remember that that pass that just went right into the
ground when he tried to push off on that injured hamstring.
Well working his way back into form for twenty twenty
five Cowboys happy about that.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Brian Schottenheimer, new head coach. New head coach.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
But previously an assistant with the Cowboys with a good
relationship with Dak, spoke to the media at the annual meeting.
Speaker 6 (07:37):
He and I have a lot of conversations about life.
Speaker 9 (07:40):
You know, it's so cool for me to watch him
be a dad and I'm about to be a dad again.
And then hear about his golf game. He's really into
golf right now. I hear he's not very good. I've
not played with him, so you can put that out there.
But yeah, he looks great, you know, he really does.
Speaker 10 (08:00):
Looks great.
Speaker 9 (08:00):
Sounds like the rehabs going amazing. And you just love
the guy. I mean, you really do. You love the guy,
and I'm excited about what we can do building around
him and through his leadership alomost some of the other
guys we have. He's just a unique individual and certainly
one of those guys that you always pull for and
you're excited when he has success.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
That was with our Tom Pellis are talking about a
man's golf game. That's not cool, Ian, although I do
it to you all the time, even though you're pretty solid.
Brian Schottenheimer Dak Prescott really good relationship as assistants now
head coach to quarterback. What are you expecting from Dak
and the Cowboys this season?
Speaker 4 (08:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (08:39):
You and I spent a lot of time with Brian
Schottenheimer at the league meetings talking about, among other things,
how excited players are to play for him. This The
hire of Schottenheimer wasn't exactly met with the course of
cheers from media and maybe Cowboys fans, but the people
who know him well, including Dak Prescott, were incredibly happy,
in part because a lot of the offense is going
to stay the same.
Speaker 6 (08:59):
The language is going to say the same.
Speaker 5 (09:00):
Play calling is going to be different, but a lot
of it is going to be the same. And that
is good news for the Cowboys because it seems like
a long time ago. But this guy you're seeing right here,
Dak Prescott went healthy, has been very very good, MVP
candidate caliber, very very good. The reason why the Cowboys
were so bad last year. One of the reasons was
because Dak got injured. So the fact that he is
(09:22):
now going through lifting in front of cameras, going through
throwing sessions in front of people in front of cameras,
these are all very positive steps towards his rehab. And
if the Cowboys at the very least get to the
spring and then get to the summer with Dak totally
fine and everything just normal, that is a win because
then potentially they could pick off where they were, a
(09:42):
pickbackup where they were in twenty twenty three rather than
twenty twenty four.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Yep, Cowboys committed to Dak Prescott even though there was
a bogus report out there that the Browns were working
on a trade. Now the Cowboys still think highly of
Dak Prescott as their franchise quarterback. Otherwise they would have
pad him sixty million dollars a year and hired the
head coach that he certainly likes and endorses. Meanwhile, it
is the season for quarterbacks throwing on their own and
(10:07):
having cameras around to capture it. If it doesn't make
its way to social media, did it even happen?
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Justin Field's working out shirtless?
Speaker 1 (10:16):
We like the footage because it gives us something fresh
to throw on the screen while we talk about quarterbacks
and new places are coming back injury. Here is Fields
coming back from his injury, and here is Aaron Glenn
talking to our Judy Batista about his new quarterback.
Speaker 11 (10:31):
He has a quiet confidence about himself. He can really
throw the d ball really really well. Obviously, his legs
is something that's been dynamic, not just in college but
in the NFL also, And I just think he's ready
to break out as a top notch quarterback. So I listen,
he's going to do everything he can to be one
of the better ones, and we're going to coach our
(10:53):
asses off to make sure that he does a good
job out there.
Speaker 7 (10:57):
And do you envision using him using the running portion
of his game, because I mean, you know that sort
of has been the push and pull of his career
so far.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
Is how much do you want to do that? Do
you envision that as part of your offense?
Speaker 11 (11:08):
I'm envisioning playing quarterback?
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Yeah, I mean, but the quarterbacks run. They run a
lot in the NFL these days.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
As you noted there, Judy and Aaron Glenn saw Justin
Field's run and throw a lot while he was game
planning against him twice in the NFC North. So I
think this is the ultimate in an endorsement from his
new head coach saying, yeah, I want that guy playing
for me and not having a game plan against him.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (11:34):
They faced each other five times when Justin Fields was
the starter for the Bears and Aaron Glenn was the
defensive coordinator for the Lions. The Bears went two and
three against the Lions. In those starts. Let me he
ran for four hundred fifty yards. He threw for eight
hundred and forty three yards, so pretty good outing, especially using.
Speaker 8 (11:52):
His legs against the Lions in that game.
Speaker 7 (11:55):
But Aaron Glenn wants him to be a complete quarterback.
He certainly doesn't want to cut off the running element
of his game because that is quite a weapon. But
he wants to see that kind of pass. He wants
to see them going Downfields. Don't forget we should say
it again. There were a lot of Justin Field supporters
in the Steelers building. Even when Mike Tomlin made the
decision to bench him in favor of Russell Wilson. They
(12:17):
thought that there was still more to get out of
Justin Fields. While the Jets are going to try to
get that out of Justin Fields. Also, Aaron Glenn later
on in that interview said he thought that having Garrett
Wilson they were college teammates there would certainly help the
sort of instant chemistry, instant comfort with that offense should
help Justin Fields develop.
Speaker 8 (12:37):
Justin Fields is the starter.
Speaker 7 (12:39):
There's not really a competition, even though I think Aaron
Glenn would like to make.
Speaker 8 (12:42):
It sound like there's one. He is the starter.
Speaker 7 (12:44):
They think that he is prepared to make a big
leap as a starting quarterback.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
That Atlanta footage that we showed that was the season
opener where it was kind of a surprise he wound
up being the starting quarterback because Russell Wilson got hurt
midway through that week, if you recall correctly, and he
made some throws in that game even with the limited
run up, and they were starting to work things into
the passing game for him, and then Mike Tommin pulled
the plug and went to Russell Wilson. So let's see
if the Jets can give him a longer runway and
(13:11):
tap into all that potential that everybody keeps talking about.
Lance Zerline is one, two see potential, and he.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Is going to look at it in Colorado just like
the rest of us.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Hang on a second, Lance, because I got to tell
you about the Colorado Showcase, which is live on NFL
Network and streaming on NFL Plus.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Friday at two thirty pm.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
It is a day where future pros will be working out,
but we're calling.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
It a showcase, the Colorado Showcase.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Speaking of Lance Zerline, here it is is mock.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Draft three point zero with the Saints.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Picking Jihad Campbell at number nine and then trading back
into the first round to take Jackson Dart at thirty
second overall if he is available. We talked about the
Saints doing some homework when it comes to the quarterbacks
Ian So you look at this and you look at
the Saints in their need potentially for a quarterback after
Derek Carr did everything they could, tried to get a
lower number from Derek Carr who said, no, I'm not
(14:05):
renegotiating it. And he said, all right, We're gonna pay
all the money because we want you here that badly
for twenty twenty five. But the potential for a long
term solution as well for the Saints.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
The Saints do need a long term solution. Say whatever
you want about Derek Carr, not someone who's going to
be the Saints quarterback for the next ten years. In fact,
there were plenty of times Mike, you and I talked
about it. We thought Derek Carr might not be the
Saints quarterback this year. The reason they paid them all
the money, the reason they put themselves in that position
to restructure his contract because they don't want to have
to go into this draft absolutely needing a quarterback. No
(14:37):
matter what, they don't need a quarterback. They have one
for this year, but they are in a position where
they could take one. They have done all the quarterback homer,
they have been a heavy presence at Pro Days, They've
been heavy presence at quarterback workouts, they have done all
of the background.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
And home mark.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
If there is a quarterback there that they like in
the top ten, for sure, could take one. Would make
a lot of sense. A quarterback wouldn't have to right away.
Would also not be surprisingly traded back into the first
to get maybe a third or fourth quarterback and say,
you know what, you can also sit the Saints don't
need one, but for sure, guys, they are a team
that could end up taking a quarterback in late April yep.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
And if it's not day one, maybe even early on
day two. At some point on day two we talked
about Kyle McCord. They went up to Syracuse to work him.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Out as well.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
So doing research at all levels of the draft at
the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Position coming up in just a couple of days. Here Friday,
two thirty pm Eastern.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
The Colorado Showcase live on NFL Network and streaming on
NFL Plus. Plenty of talent to showcase. There, plenty of
future pros to work out on this day at the
Colorado Showcase.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
We will be carrying it live.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
Our guy Steve Weisch will be there and he is
here right now alongside one of these Colorado prospects that
we're talking about, Jimmy Horn, junior wide receiver for the Buffalos,
joining us right now. Jimmy ran extremely well at the
combine four four six official. I believe Team Watches had
you in the low four fours. Usually a number like that,
(16:11):
you sit on it. You're not sitting on it, are you?
Speaker 8 (16:14):
No?
Speaker 12 (16:14):
I ain't sitting on that. I know, I know on
way faster than that, I know on way faster than that.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
So the plan is to go out in the showcase
and run once again. And I mean, what's what's the
number in your head that showcases your real speed.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
I'm going low full threes, Okay.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Low four threes?
Speaker 6 (16:34):
Yeah, all right, I guess I'll be there.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
I'll be looking forward to it.
Speaker 13 (16:38):
But Jimmy, I mean, besides your forty time, I mean
your overall Combine performance had people really talking about you.
We've seen you on film, the explosive ability, Like what
is your feeling right now in your conversations with teams
as you head into the showcase, what more you need.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
To show them?
Speaker 12 (16:55):
I'm feeling I'm feeling pretty good about my performance at
the Combine. You know, I can't and out there and
did what I had to do. I was as comfortable,
you know, I have fun. I want no nervousness in
my body.
Speaker 6 (17:06):
You know.
Speaker 12 (17:07):
I enjoyed every moment and I appreciate the opportunity of
the invitation to allow me to be out there to
showcase my time.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
And that's first I want to give thanks to the invite,
you know.
Speaker 12 (17:17):
And uh, really though, like conversation with the teams, they
are they all just telling me they like me as
a guy. You know, I could, I could, I bring
a lot of value in the game. I could play
special teams. I'm a good receiver, you know, I'm real
consistent and uh, I just let them know, like why
whenever I get there, I'm real hungry and I'm ready
to play, and I'm hungry for knowledge, you know. So
(17:40):
I'm not coming in there with the big head. I'm
always be humble, you know, even if that's got to
wait my time and go do that. And I'm gonna
just soak up as much knowledge as i can before
once I get there.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
You talk about the conversations with teams.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
I know you've had a lot of meetings, You've had
some visits, You've had the chance to get out there
and make your case known ahead of the NFL Draft.
I see you got the uh the top on there.
It looks like a little camouflage, like a little hunting camouflage.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
It's got me thinking, I did a little digging, like.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
This is gonna sound like there's no way I would
have asked you this question myself, but I've told it's gonna.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Get a great answer.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
What kind of animal do you see as yourself on
the field, Like, what kind of animal would you compare
yourself to as a player?
Speaker 2 (18:21):
I heard it's gonna be a great answer.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
Yeah, I'm a dog. Like I compare myself.
Speaker 12 (18:26):
I compare myself to a red nose and a blue
nose pit you know, them type of dogs, the real
lawyer to their owners, you know, and they lawyers as
dogs in general, and like they fight to the end,
and they got a lot of heart, you know, they
don't give up.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
So I look here at that, because.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
What kind of animal would would you describe yourself? Both
of y'all?
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Oh, Steve over starting with me here, I guess I
guess i'd be a bulldog right Like, I'm not getting
anywhere in a hurry. Okay, but I'm stuff. You know,
I can hold my ground, and I know what I want.
I'm gonna go get it. Here you go, Steve, how
about that one for you?
Speaker 2 (19:06):
I was ready for that.
Speaker 13 (19:07):
Hey look look, hey, hey, Jimmy, I'm keeping it one
hundred Okay. I'm a graduate Howard University, Okay, and we
are the Bison.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
So I'm a Bison.
Speaker 13 (19:15):
I'm a big savvy survivor who you can throw anything
at me, the cold, the heat, I'm gonna find my way.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
So I'm a.
Speaker 6 (19:22):
Bison, big fact.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
I like that. I like that.
Speaker 13 (19:26):
Okay, so here's something I want. I want to get
you because I've watched a lot of your games. I mean,
and just the explosive potential, but you're also you can
run the whole route tree, right from the quick game
to the intermediate stuff. And a lot of people may
look at you at five ten, one seventy and say, Okay,
he can only do this or that. Is there anything
you have to show the teams or tell teams saying no,
don't put any type of lid on me, because I'm
(19:48):
a complete receiver.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Yeah me personally, I know I'm a complete receiver.
Speaker 12 (19:53):
I could do everything from blocking and running ross just
about anything on the field that you know, I could
play in the world from.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Outside the inside. I could do a little running back.
Speaker 10 (20:03):
You know I didn't.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
I done did it all.
Speaker 12 (20:05):
Like I know what I could do when I'm out
there on the field, Like I could turn somethingto Now
that's just the type of guy I don't want to feel.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
You know, I'm always gonna stay humble with it. But
if I got a popular I'll pop.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
You know, you guys were a blast to watch in Colorado?
You were successful? How much more? Because I always think
about it in terms of which programs are preparing guys
for the NFL?
Speaker 2 (20:28):
How much more prepared are you.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Knowing that you you played for a coach who not
only was an NFL player, not only was a great
NFL player, guy was a superstar. I mean, he's seen
it all. How much more does that prepare you? Knowing
Dan's in your corner?
Speaker 12 (20:42):
It prepares me a lot, like even the other guys
that we got coming coming into the NFL draft, you know,
like the knowledge that we get every day, you know,
it prepares us.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
For the next level.
Speaker 12 (20:53):
Like when I when I talk to teams and we
go over like the playbook and stuff like that's happening
Coach pat Sermon, theres o OC like the players we ran,
the formations and stuff is kind of similar. So that
that give us an advantage, you know, to pick up
on players faster too, with the with the calls that
the NFL team have, and and then like like I said,
(21:14):
like with the knowledge and stuff we get, you know,
Coach Prince, just always keep it real, you know that
That's That's just how that's the type of stuff you
should expect from a coach, you know, and I respect
coach pron for that because he always keep it real
and you do sugar coat anything.
Speaker 13 (21:29):
Okay, you talked about some of the all the players
you guys could be at the showcase, you know you do,
or we know Travis Hunter going into the draft as well,
some top picks.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
But here's my question for you.
Speaker 13 (21:40):
How much better did you make Travis Hunter going up
against him in practice the past two years?
Speaker 12 (21:47):
Uh, it's more like an iron sharp iron type of thing.
You know, good versus good every every day it's about it.
But we really ain't go up against each.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
Other that much.
Speaker 12 (21:57):
But it's an iron sharping iron whenever trial on fail
is always going to be a complete battle.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
You know, trial light die.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
Real quick.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Because Steve mentioned Travis, I mean the ability to play
both ways, and we don't know what's going to happen
with him, certainly at the NFL level. How interested are
you to see how much corner he's gonna play, how
much receiver he's gonna play. What would you suggest if
you were talking O gm.
Speaker 12 (22:21):
Abe a me, I'm that's try man, try try can
do whatever you want.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
To do on the field. You know, So if you
if you're comfortable on that side, let him do it.
I see.
Speaker 12 (22:31):
I just feel like once he gets up to the program,
just let trial go where he feel the most comfortable
at for real.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
You know.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
That's all.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Love it, Love it, Jimmy. We got the Colorado showcase
coming up. You got Travis Hunter, you got your Door Centers,
you got all that Colorado talent, and we are going
to tune in because we're going to see if Jimmy
Horn can show you that low four three. I know
you've been timed at it before. I know that that's
the case. So Jimmy Horn Jr. We appreciate your time.
Go out there, run fast for this all flow with
the bike, flow it a bison.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Come on, man, you know how we get it, man Molle,
Thank you job, Jimmy Horn.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Appreciate the time, and best of luck to you throughout
the draft process. Best the luck of the Titans. They
have to make a decision what to do at one.
Bucky Brooks, Mark Roth, Brian Balding, You're going to join
us next to give some advice.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Should they take that guy?
Speaker 1 (23:22):
I'd say at least one of those guys is going
to suggest that in the Tennessee that's up.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Next on the inside of.
Speaker 7 (23:33):
Our Daniel Jeremiah just dropped his new top fifty prospects
heading into the draft.
Speaker 8 (23:39):
This is the top ten we.
Speaker 7 (23:41):
Are showing you and the big mover here Miami quarterback
cam Ward up two spots following his pro day that
was last week in carl Gables. You see outdul Carter
tops the list, Travis Hunter, Ashton Genty.
Speaker 8 (23:55):
All the way down. We are going to.
Speaker 7 (23:57):
Go through some prospects and give all advice to the
teams picking.
Speaker 8 (24:01):
At the top of the draft.
Speaker 7 (24:03):
That's Bucky Brooks, Brian Braldinger, Mark Ross, Mark you are
the one writing with the pieces of advice. Let's start
at number one with the Tennessee Titans. What should they do?
Speaker 14 (24:14):
Don't overthink this pick, Tennessee. And I know there's been
talk about Abdul Arter and Travis Hunter and trading out
of the pick and Shadora Sanders, but just take the
one player that can transform your organization.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
And that's cam Ward.
Speaker 14 (24:29):
And just like last year with Jade Daniels in the
year before with CJ. Stroud, cam Ward I think has
that same ability to change the Titans future for the
next fifteen years and make them contenders year after year.
Speaker 6 (24:42):
Not just because of the quarterback, but I think.
Speaker 14 (24:44):
Because he is a ultra talented quarterback who's a winner
and who is a leader and can bring an organization
along with him. Look, they could take Abdul Carter, he
could be a Pro Bowl player next year, and Tennessee
could be picking at the first pick Travis Hunter.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
He could be a dreenerational talent, but they could be
picking number one.
Speaker 10 (25:04):
Again.
Speaker 14 (25:04):
Cam Ward's the guy to transform your organization, you know, Mark.
Speaker 15 (25:09):
I think that's interesting to take cam Ward because it's
not just taking the quarterback that can transform the organization.
Is making sure you give them the pieces around him
to allow him to make that transformation happen. And so
you get the quarterback in place, then it's about making
sure that you have the offensive line that can protect him,
and then having another receiver opposite Calvin Ridley that he
(25:30):
can rely on.
Speaker 6 (25:31):
The younger quarterback, the more experienced.
Speaker 15 (25:34):
The receivers need to be, so he can develop that timing,
meaning I can trust that my guys are going to
be where they need to be when they need to
be there.
Speaker 6 (25:42):
So I can let the ball go freely.
Speaker 15 (25:43):
We have seen cam Ward kind of pull off this turnaround,
first at Incarnate Word, then going to Washington State, and
then finally the transformation that took place at Miami under
his direction. Look, he is one of those thermostat leaders
that changes the temperature to him when he walks in.
Speaker 6 (26:01):
But give him what he needs so we can help
that transformation take place. Day one when he steps into Nashville.
Speaker 16 (26:07):
Well, you identify the franchise quarterback bucket and mark and
then you never stop building around it. To your point,
and just being around him nine days ago at the
University of Miami and at his pro day, the leadership
ability that he has demonstrated at those three stops he's
made in college, you can see why he's elevated the program.
I mean just you know, the talent is obvious, the
(26:28):
way that he can just torqu and get the ball
out of his hands from every single angle.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
Uh.
Speaker 16 (26:33):
Just the velocity that he can generate. Uh and just
you know, all that was verified by the pro day.
Speaker 17 (26:40):
But just to see him intermingled with all the different
personnel people, whether it was from Tennessee or another time,
team Joshane was there from the Giants just talking to
him and then just seeing him support all of his
teammates and all the drills that they were doing.
Speaker 16 (26:56):
He was the very last person to leave the facility
nine days ago, just because he felt it was his duty,
like it is the quarterbacks duty to be in charge
and let everybody know that he's in charge. I think
Tennessee's getting a leader and a leader with town. And
to your point, Mark, I don't believe the Titans are
gonna overthink this.
Speaker 12 (27:16):
All right.
Speaker 7 (27:17):
If we assume that the Titans do what we think
they're going to do, then the real intrigue starts at
number two, and then that would trickle down to number three,
the Browns and Giants respectively. Bucky, what do you think
they should do there?
Speaker 15 (27:31):
Well, if you're to clean the Browns, I think ownership
has already kind of given you an out to make
the move in number two. When Jimmy Haslin talked about, look,
we tried to take a big swing and we missed
on the quarterback with Deshaun Watson. To me, that's him
nudging Kevis Stavansky and Andrew Berry saying, hey, go get
a young quarterback so we can reset the clock, but
more importantly, so we can get back on track by
(27:52):
having a quarterback to be able to help us get
to the promised land. And so Shador Sandas to me,
is the pick in this spot, not only because I
believe that he's good enough to help a team win
and win at a high level. But when you think
about Kevin Stefanski and what he's traditionally played well with,
Let's look at what he did with Kirk Cousins, Joe Flecko,
Jameis Winston, all traditional pocket passers. He also worked as
(28:15):
a quarterback coach underpast Shermer. He is going to have
the intel to build a solid system around she drew Sanders.
Speaker 6 (28:22):
To me, you understand it's going to be tempted to
put a dual.
Speaker 15 (28:24):
Carter with Miles Garrett, but if you don't have a quarterback,
you don't have a chance.
Speaker 6 (28:28):
To me, they have to take a quarterback in this spot, Bucky,
I think they.
Speaker 14 (28:33):
Were in a different situation here where I see cam
Ward transforming in an organization, I don't see the same with
schir Dor Sanders. So to me, it gets a little
bit trickier with the second and third picks, and Cleveland
and New York are kind of lumped together, but there
are complete different situations where it seems the ownership in
Cleveland have given Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry a little
(28:54):
bit more league way to say, you know what, we
messed up at Deshaun Watson situation. Now you guys gon
run the team, as opposed to the giant situation where
we know and Judy, who saw this first hand.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
John Merrier at the.
Speaker 14 (29:05):
End of the season said I got no more patience.
Fellas though Brian Babel and Joe Shane might be a
little bit more desperate if Shadori is there to say,
we're not putting our jobs on the line with Jamis
Winston and Russell Wilson.
Speaker 6 (29:16):
We better get this young guy in here to buy
some time, Baldy, but Mark, I mean, you can't reach
for this pick.
Speaker 16 (29:23):
They have swung and missed a bunch, not just to
Sean watch it, but throughout.
Speaker 10 (29:27):
Their history they have swung and missed. And so I'll do.
Speaker 16 (29:30):
Carter's there, and you feel like that's a Pro Bowl
player that we can build with. Now they need a quarterback.
Kenny Pickett is the only healthy one there, but there's
other quarterbacks in this draft. I just don't think if
Andrew Berry his staff along with Stefanski, says, look, this
guy is.
Speaker 10 (29:49):
Worthy of the number two pick, then take them.
Speaker 16 (29:51):
But if it's a reach where you go we need
a quarterback and he could be good, but we're not so,
then I wouldn't do it. I take a short thing
and up duel right now, and I would look at
a quarterback later.
Speaker 10 (30:01):
In the draft.
Speaker 7 (30:04):
Still got three more weeks for the smoke to clear,
maybe or more smoke signals.
Speaker 8 (30:08):
Who knows what we will get. Guys, thank you very much.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
JJ McCarthy's got to be the most talked about quarterback
in the NFL who hasn't quite played yet. Just drive
back from the league meetings in Palm Beat. It seems
he was one of the biggest topics of conversation. Now
that he is said to be the Vikings starter for
the twenty twenty five season. All that talk of Aaron
Rodgers that seems to be not happening, listen to the
(30:33):
Vikings brass and it is all JJ mccarth. The In fact,
our good friend Tom Pelisero went one on one with
Vikings GM Quasia Dolfo Mensa to talk about exactly this.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Quacy.
Speaker 18 (30:47):
Let's just tackle this right off the bat here, Okay,
because I can't walk ten feet at this meeting without
somebody telling me a conspiracy theory about your quarterbacks. I
can't go on social media. Give me where we actually
stand the Vikings quarterback plan for twenty twenty five.
Speaker 19 (31:02):
Yeah, we're excited about JJ McCarthy. Somebody that we identified
in the draft process last year is somebody not just
from an arm talent, athleticism, but a processing standpoint, but
just a work ethic. You know, we talk a lot
about leadership and having your quarterback and body, what your
culture is. He's somebody from a positive attitude, the way
he cares about his teammates, all those different things that
(31:22):
we want to be our starting quarterback for a long time.
You know, I want to chase this thing with keV
him myself, the alignment we have together, and so we're
excited about him and what he's what he's brought. You know,
obviously had an injury in the setback, but we're excited
about everything he's done from that point and we're going
to go forward with that. We're going to look to
obviously always add depth to that room. To upgrade it.
But we've set out to build a type of team
(31:44):
that's very quarterback friendly to a young player from a
running game, from a defensive standpoint. A lot of the
moves we made in free agency was that was with
that in mind, and we're excited about what we're going forward.
Speaker 18 (31:54):
JJ having that injury missing obviously all those rests, but
that could be a dark time for a young player. Lie,
you got to get through mentally and physically. How is
he handled that and to the extent that you know,
like how does he look right now?
Speaker 19 (32:06):
He looks great right now. And obviously there were some
you know, probably some missteps or sorry, you know, struggles
with the injury, as a lot of players can have.
You know, when something that you love that much, it
almost shows what you loved about the player. You know,
how much he loves the game and how much it
matters to his life and brings central and focus to
his life. And so once you remove that, there's gonna
(32:29):
be sometimes some struggles with that. But he approached everything
with a can do and unbelievable mentality to approach every
task to be the best version of himself. Again, that's
why he's somebody we want to embody our leadership and
our culture. And so yeah, he's been in a great
spot every checkpoint. As I said the other day, he's
exceeded every throwing session, every workout. I mean, the kid
(32:49):
is so detailed and process oriented. You know, we had
him do projects when he was injured. I had him
do some personnel projects just to you know, talking with
some of my other GM friends and just hey, what
did you do with great players when they had time off?
And I had him to do a personnel project in
the level of detail that this guy does. I didn't
really give him much ground. He just said, hey, go
(33:09):
and he did an amazing job. So that's the type
of person we're dealing with, the type of Wyan we're
dealing with. So we're excited about what he's going to bring.
Speaker 5 (33:18):
Welcome back, Bucky Brooks and Mark Ross. Let's hone in
on this a little bit and Bucky will start with you.
Speaker 6 (33:24):
It does seem that JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
Has done everything that he has needed to do and
more from the Vikings perspective, but on the field, as
we get into the twenty twenty five seasons, with all
the talk about what to expect from JJ, what does
he need.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
To do.
Speaker 20 (33:40):
So.
Speaker 15 (33:40):
Look, I think j just just needs to be the
quarterback that he was at Michigan and Eddie shold flashes
of being doing a free season for the Minnesota Vikings,
meaning be a high end game manager and allow the
weapons around him to really make this offense work. When
you look at the Minnesota Vikings, one of the reasons
why Sam Jonald was really able to flourish is because
they had a eat playmakers on the perimeter. And you
(34:02):
think about what you have and Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, TJ. Hockinson,
Aaron Jones in the backfield and offensive line that's one
of the best in the business. JJ McCarthy doesn't need
to feel like he needs to be the primary playmaker,
manage the game, get the ball out of his hands,
make the plays dead or there to be made, and
live to play another day, because remember, this defense is
(34:22):
also going to be stellar. So much like he approached
the game when he was with Michigan, it's the same approach.
Just do what you need to do to win. Don't
feel like you have to step outside yourself. If he
stays within that box, the Minnesota Bikers will continue to
win and win at a high level.
Speaker 14 (34:38):
Bucky, you sold the words wrap the mouth, just play
like he did at Michigan, and you saw that where
they ran the ball.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
He hit the big.
Speaker 14 (34:44):
Throws in key spots, and he directed the offense. And
as you mentioned, his head coach is going to make
it easy for him because he did that for Sam Darnold,
and then all that talent around.
Speaker 10 (34:53):
Him is going to make it easy.
Speaker 14 (34:55):
And look, with the injury last year, it could be
a blessing in disguise in other words, concerns that was
brought up there. But for JJ, it could be a
time to just step back, see everything. It's like your
freshman year of high school or college where your head
has spin in. By the time you're a sophomore, okay,
you know what's going on, you know where your classes are,
(35:15):
you know who the professors are. Things are so much easier.
And for JJ that could be the case where now
all of the external things that go with being a
franchise quarterback is out of the way. Now I can
just focus on getting on the field and balling. And
for him, he should be even more confident when he
looks at all his classmates from last year, from Caleb
(35:35):
the Jaden winning Rookie of the Year. Bo Nick's playing well,
Penic's getting in there playing well.
Speaker 6 (35:40):
Drake may is going to be good.
Speaker 14 (35:41):
He should look at that and say, you know what,
I'm just as good as those guys.
Speaker 6 (35:44):
They had success year one.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Here it is year two for me.
Speaker 8 (35:47):
It's my time to shine.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
Maybe he's already had that period of time where he
steps back and slows down, he gets a better understanding
did all that hasn't played yet? Now finally gets to
put it on the field for twenty twenty five with
all of us watching and judging, which you know, unfortunately is.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
The reality of the NFL.
Speaker 6 (36:03):
Guys, Thank you so much for joining us. Excellent stuff.
As always.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
CJ.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
Stroud was under a ton of pressure last year, in fact,
the most pressured quarterback in the NFL in twenty twenty four.
Despite what the Texans had put into that offensive line.
They made a lot of changes on that line after
the season. Here is what Tamiko Ryans with our Steve
Weisch thinks is going to happen for Stroud.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
And that new old line this upcoming season.
Speaker 21 (36:32):
With CJ him going into his third year, he's done.
He's had two years, and he's had two successful years.
He's played really good football. So we don't just throw
everything out that CJ knows.
Speaker 10 (36:43):
And he does well.
Speaker 21 (36:45):
It's a marion of both systems, like of what Kaylee
has done in the past that he sees their works,
but also those things that CJ has done well. We
don't want to just rip those away from him, right,
We want to continue to lean in on those things
he's done really well. All Right, He's a really great
young quarterback. He's had a phenomenal two years in his career,
(37:08):
early career, and he has so much ahead of him,
and I think Kaylee coming in will definitely accentuate his talents.
And I think those guys working together will get the
best out of CJ. We'll get the best out of
our entire offense.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
Kelly is new offensive coordinator, Nick Keyley. That's who Demico
Rise is referring to. Steve weisch Off camera there on
camera here along with Brian Baldinger as we talk about
the Texans, and I mentioned that offensive line, Baldy, Let's
start there because that was a big part of what
the Texans were unable to do, and hopefull they'll be
able to do this.
Speaker 6 (37:41):
Year, no question, Matam Mike.
Speaker 16 (37:43):
And you know they elevated their assistant offensive line coach,
Cole Popovich to be the offensive line coach.
Speaker 10 (37:48):
So there's some continuity there. But a couple of things.
Speaker 16 (37:51):
One, the last time we saw the Texans play was
against the Chiefs, and it was an embarrassing performance by
the offensive line and by.
Speaker 10 (37:57):
The offensive coordinator blocking scheme we saw.
Speaker 16 (38:01):
You know, we saw eight sacks, fourteen quarterback hits and
really they didn't do a good job batching CJ.
Speaker 10 (38:07):
No, it was some of them what we.
Speaker 16 (38:08):
Saw all year long, and then they were heavily analyzed
as an offensive line here Ago and Leonard ye Tunsel
was part of that too, and one of the reasons
why maybe that trade was made to Washington and Cam
Robinson come in. But regardless, this is a team that
has won playoff games in each of CJ's first two years.
But to make this many changes probly says a lot
(38:30):
about what Tomiko was looking at all year agoing we
got to tighten this up, we got to.
Speaker 6 (38:34):
Firm this up, We got to protect our quarterback better.
Speaker 16 (38:37):
We know we got Nico out there, that Nico Collins
that we get the ball to just about any time.
We've got some changes out there, but we got to
get back to like protecting our quarterback and not committing
so many penalties like they did a year ago, whereceives
are constantly in negative situations where you're asking you a
quarterback to rescue you on second and third loan because
(38:58):
of those penalties.
Speaker 13 (38:58):
Yeah, and Baldy, it wasn't just one thing, because remember
they changed out their offensive coordinate, offensive line coach, and
then they moved three key players on their offensive line,
including larry My Tuntl. They bring in five players in
free agency on the offensive line, including Trent Brown, including
Cam Robinson. But they realized and speaking with Demiko Ryans,
and they've got a lot of work to do on
(39:21):
that side of the ball. Let's not forget Tank Della
is out injured. They lost Toefon Diggs. Of course, we
missed a lot of the season last year. They added
Christian Kirk, but there pieces everywhere except for running back
and quarterback that have to be adjusted. This is a
team that barely averaged twenty one points last year even
though they won ten ball games. And I think the
(39:42):
most concerning element, and guys, you know this. They did
not play well to the back half of the season.
They won five with their first six and then really
struggled as the level of competition got better.
Speaker 8 (39:52):
It's good on the.
Speaker 13 (39:53):
Texans and Demiico Ryans to recognize there are bigger issues
there that they better get ahead of for otherwise and
other two team like Indianapolis or Jacksonville takes him all.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
The lead there in that AFC South Yep.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
Trent Brown coming back from a significant knee injury suffered
last season with the Bengals, So the Texans obviously a
leap of faith hoping he is going to be able
to return to top form.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
We shall see about that.
Speaker 1 (40:16):
We'll see how that refigured offensive line protects c. J.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
Stroud.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
Much needed Steve Weish, Brian Baldinger, always much needed insight.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
From you guys.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
We appreciate it. Thank you very much for coming up.
Russell Wilson. You see the three on the helmet there
with the Steelers, really wear the same three with the Giants.
Perhaps we'll let you know after the break of the
Insiders the Giants getting that jersey ready for Russell Wilson.
(40:51):
There's the name, how about the number, It's coming, I
promise you the same one he's been wearing folks three.
Deonta Banks, the quarterback, had three, he switches to two. Frankly,
Banks could use a fresh start, so hopefully that'll be
it for him as far as the Giants are can turn.
But Russell Wilson gets his three. Meanwhile, will someone be
(41:12):
added to that quarterback room? You've got Schador Sanders as
a possibility for the Giants.
Speaker 20 (41:18):
But if all them go to the ing about the
pre game pre will be fired. Ben come home, bro,
She'll get back for the game.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
Yeah, it's gonna be quite the pregame prayer session.
Speaker 17 (41:43):
You know.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
I want to take it back to the three though
for Ian for one million dollars one million dollars Ian
what giant pro bowler within the last fifteen years? War
three before changing a much higher number, Judy, no help please,
oh man, why are you gonna do me like that?
It was only in the Resciens pro board War three?
(42:04):
I don't know, War three.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
In the preseason, then changed away much higher number. Judy,
help him out.
Speaker 8 (42:11):
It's Victor Cruz.
Speaker 2 (42:13):
It's Victor Cruz.
Speaker 20 (42:15):
Return to the.
Speaker 8 (42:17):
Cruise the number three.
Speaker 1 (42:21):
Tomorrow or more attempts to embarrassing in on national television.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Thanks for watching,
