Speaker 1 (00:00):
Could not be more pleased to have back on the
Rich Eyes and podcast Matt Damon's are you one of
those Patriot fans that takes flee in the jets and
the butt fumbling? I made the Liberati movie this year,
so that's fine. Fumbling in that movie. Just a wee
little bit. Larry David could deceive you, sir. I think
a lot of writers can be offensive coordinators. What's harder?
If I could write stories, why would I be able
(00:22):
to draw up a play? He is none other than
Broadway Joe name it if mark word to get the nod?
And if he played decently? If if? What a big words?
Only two letters? Huh, Bobby kind of vall told you
about Derek Jeter story Yankees Atlanta the World series, screaming, screaming, screaming, nothing, nothing, nothing.
(00:45):
He doesn't even look at me. Finally, last at that
a Thinnings Jeter comes up. Just turn around, man, just
turn around. Finally he like, don't he does the thing
with the way he's about to go up. He turns around,
he looks at me, goes bro, I hear you, however, one,
and thanks for joining us. I'm Richard Oisen. I don't
(01:06):
download many podcasts, but when I do, I prefer the
rich eyes and podcast. Welcome everybody, the sixth annual NFL
Media Mock Draft. We're inside the Art McNally Game Day
Central here at NFL Headquarters, where Dean Blandino, the head
(01:29):
of Officiating, will orchestrate the officiating of all the NFL
games this fall. Now, from my perspective, little different draft
this year, fellas and we had a year ago. Michael
Irvin is sitting on this side of the table for
a reason. Last year he sat at number two. He
picked Gino Smith, who went in the second round and
messed up our entire first round. So Michael, you're bat
(01:52):
in eighth today, Okay, So he could be sitting there,
big boy. So a little different kind of draft this year.
Last year we're talking about tackles, you know. This year
we're talking about sexier things, including the placement of quarterbacks
throughout the first round. From my perspective, I think that's
(02:14):
the hardest part of this draft. I've never seen a
greater division of opinions on quarterbacks at the high level
and a better depth of quarterbacks throughout the first three
rounds of this draft. So it's gonna be intriguing. So
let's talk about who are general managers are gonna be today?
First and foremost leading us off and coach set the tone.
Brian Billick, head coach of the Baltimore Ravens for nine years,
(02:36):
including a super Bowl in the two thousand season. Drafted
in the eleventh round, Coach, I went had you and
you never played in the NFL game I played in
nine coach. Coach today will have Houston, Buffalo, Baltimore, and
San Diego. Coach Welcome, We're gonna go. We're gonna We're
(03:02):
gonna go from the sublime here to the ridiculously good.
Marshall Falk, we're talking about Pro Football Hall of Fame
class of two thousand eleven. Member of the Super Bowl
champion Ram, seven time Pro Bowler, three time First Team
All Pro, two thousand NFL m v P. I am
tired of your accolades, Marshall. Today you'll be playing the
role of less sneat two picks in the first round,
(03:24):
in addition to the Jets and Carolina the second pick.
I get. I have a right too. I'm just saying
you gotta get it, and I gotta get the Rams
cannot fire me and the second pick in this draft
can't tell the Bengals not to draft him? Right? Is
that the way it works? Maybe? Okay? We never know?
And like usual, Rich Eyes and just introduced themselves NFL
(03:47):
network host since two thousand three, hosts of the Rich
Eyes and Podcast, Do you do this better than me?
Go ahead? Go ahead? Anything else you'd like? The pump? Yeah?
I ran a five point uh next time by our
commissioner or steam commissioner the unbesmirchabal Mike Mayock and um
i'm i am available for drafting board. You are on
(04:09):
the board today and you will be representing Jacksonville, Tennessee,
Miami and New Orleans next. Charles Davis Yeoman's effort on
Path of the Draft this year lead analysts for Fox
college football coverage Gracademic All American, which if you watch Charles,
you have no doubt about that cowboy free agent in
(04:29):
the same boat as coach Billick did not play a game. Charles. Tonight,
you will have Cleveland, the Giants, Arizona too. Smart. I
got two picks in Cleveland four and six. Daniel Jeremiah
co host with Charles. Great job this year in Path
the Draft, you guys were absolutely study eight seasons as
an NFL scout, Eagles, Browns, and Ravens. Starting Quarte quarterback
(04:52):
at Appalachian State for three years in September, rematches this year.
How you do a couple of years ago? Gotta go there?
Three national championships, just wondering, DJ, You've got Oakland, Detroit,
Green Bay in New England. Mooch next up nine years
is an NFL head coach with the forty Niners in
Lions Brett Farve's personal cat season twenty eight seasons overall
(05:18):
as a coach and coach, You're gonna have Atlanta, Chicago, Philly,
in San Francisco, and we are happy in Canada. You
missed two weeks in Canada right out of the scrimmage
out well, continuing our run on guys that never played
(05:42):
a snap in the NFL. He played he might have
back post of the Dave Damashack Football Program, NFL dot
Com contributor. It's as here attended Indiana University. Nothing about graduating. Well, listen,
(06:04):
the tails are murky and we don't need to get gradually.
Selecting David for Tampa Bay interesting pick, big fell A
lot of pressure on you at seven, You're not abdicating
to me this year, Okay, Pittsburgh, Casey in Denver, And last,
and certainly not least, Michael Irvin now Michael Pro Football
(06:25):
Hall of Fame class of two thousand seven, three times
Super Bowl Champion, five time Pro Bowler, eleventh overall pick
out of the U and selecting today for Minnesota at A, Dallas, Cincinnati,
and Seattle. And Michael, You've got a lot of work
to do to kind of make up for last year's performance.
I thought I did pretty well last year, but then
you know that that that's amount of a pinion on
(06:46):
your side that I didn't do well. But I'm ready
to knock this one. Okay, Well, let's get to it, fellas. Okay,
thirty two picks. Coach billis gonna lead us off. I
want to hear about twenty to thirty seconds of what
that team needs and why, and then give me your pick. Coach,
say the tone group. That's not gonna happen this draft
for me. My needs quarterback, tackle, outside linebacker, Russian couldn't
(07:08):
be better, got lots of options, Gotta dress the elephant
in the room. Quarterback. You can take a first round quarterback.
You can take a quarterback in the top pen picks,
but if you take the first overall, it's got to
be unconditional love, no qualifiers, and I don't think these quarterbacks.
There's too many qualifiers for me to take one. I
gotta go, you know what. I love Khalil Mack. I
think it's a good sound pick. I think he's scheme diverse.
(07:30):
I think he fits what Romeo Cornell, the defensive coordinator,
wants to do. But but I'm love with the pretty girl.
I don't know that he's a generational pass rusher, but
he's pretty darn good. I'll go with j That's a
hard pick to argue with. Right probably the most talented
defensive lineman on the planet today. Whether or not he
becomes the best is going to be up to him
(07:50):
in the organization. I think that's a good, solid pick. Marshall,
you're you're you are on the board that Um. I
just it's it scares me because I made that pick
once before as Houston Texans, and I'm happy that he
made that thig so my needs as a Saint Louis Rams.
You think about it, offensive tackle, safety, corner, wide receiver again.
(08:11):
But um, when you look at when you look at
the NFC West and the two teams that's at the top,
they do one thing that you do. You play good defense.
They played good defense. But the quarterbacks are dynamic. They're
not pocket passers. So I mean, there's no way, there's
no way. If my quarterback gets hurt, Sam Bradford goes down,
(08:32):
we don't even have Kellen Clements as a backup. What
do we do. I gotta go Johnny Manzell. Not what
you're doing. See what I'm saying. I'm just what i'd
like to say, Michael. Just because it's the same position,
(08:52):
it doesn't mean it's the same player. There's some there's
some logic behind that particular pick. I'm only and I'll
say it if you'll watch how the and if you
watch that, this is my drest. So you're done with if. No,
I'm not done with Brathlet. I'm just telling you, but
(09:12):
my future is going to be number two. I don't
I don't know what I'm gonna get from Brathlets. I
have no idea coming on fall. I don't know what
I'm gonna get, no idea. This is a lot. And
I'll tell you one thing. There's one other thing about
the comparison you made, and that is those two teams
Seattle in San Francisco asked their quarterbacks to make a
less percentage of plays than the Bradies and Mannings and
(09:33):
those guys. And that's why it fits for a man's
l Wait, wait when you talk my le percentage with
his own. No, I'm saying that the two quarterbacks Russell
Wilson and Kaepernick make less percentage of overall plays and
they get the divide between their arm and their legs. Yes,
we gotta keep moving here, we gotta keep moving Number three,
rich Eyes, and you're on the clock with Jackson. There's
one person that would be said, the Florida talk to
(09:58):
her take the Well, there's there's one person that would
be very upset with that pick if that happens. That
person is shod con In Jackson Bone. It takes a
lot like I do right now. It's up top here.
I need to take the tarps off of parts of
my stadium that cover seats. I need to put people
(10:20):
in those seats. And Johnny Manziel would have been the
guy to do that. And so I'm sitting there and
I'm talking about how Sammy Watkins could be the guy
to help put fannies in the seats. But I'm also
very successful man, because I delegate, and so I take
off the mustache and I draft Khalil Mack number three
overall Buffalo, and Gus Bradley goes and does what the
(10:43):
Texans planned to do, which is go hunt Andrew Luck
for the next decade and a half and try to
put him on his button. So, had the quarterback been there,
what you're saying is the owner would have forced this pick. No,
I don't know if the owner would have forced the pick,
but he would have wanted Manziel and I think at
the very end he's going to delegate it out and
it would have been it would have been a Watkins
versus Mac issue anyway in my mind in that place anyway,
(11:05):
and I'll go with Matt Well regionally from a pr standpoint,
Ego Blake Bortles. That would bring a lot of the
Floridians in there, but much that's too much of a
risk at the top there. When you've got all world
talents like Watkins or Mac, and you could put one
of those guys out the day. You gotta win football
games because they have a reasonable audience. But I will
tell you this in the state of Florida and they
will come you. CF doesn't carry the day, no, no offense,
(11:28):
but Blake Bortles going to Jacksonville and he's not gonna
bring out at the end of the day. If you
want to take all the tarks off the seats and
Jacksonvi'll go thirteen and three. That's all you gotta That's
what you gotta do. That's all you gotta do. You win, Davis,
You've got four and twenty six, and I would say
that you've got to figure out which way you want
to go here because you've gotta come away with two
(11:49):
special picks. What you got my latest original mock draft
actually due to fatigue probably, that's what I'm gonna go with. Actually,
Pencil did two quarterbacks one four and on to Cleveland
Browns and had to go back and change him when
I realized that made that mistake. But you know, it's
like kind of like the Houston Oilers and seventy one
getting past or any with one and didn't lynd Dickie
(12:11):
in the third round. But anyway, with Cleveland, besides what
they actually need in terms of players, they need hope
everyone to see this organization gets started going the right direction.
There's a lot of fits and starts. Guys there for
a year, he's gone. Here comes new leadership, and a
couple of seasons they're gone. Here they go again. They've
got to get this right. Big need at offensive line,
(12:33):
and you've got Greg Robinson maul Burn on the board.
But guess what you guys left Sammy Watkins out there,
and now you pair him with Cameron Jordan at tight end,
with Josh Gordon now because Josh Gordon out wide, and
bring him in. Get Brian Hoyer's knee right. I'll probably
be talking to you about that quarterback position at makes sense.
But I've got to go there with Sammy Watkins, Andy
(12:55):
Watkins and pick number four. It's really solent DJ, you're
in the clock with. I think the wild card in
the top ten is the Open Raiders. I don't like
anybody knows what the Oakland Raiders are gonna do. This
is a tough one because when I look at the
Raiders in the off season free agency, they signed us
about everybody that I figured there one player away from
(13:15):
winning the Super Bowl. That's if they could get Doc
Brown and his glory in and go back in time
about four or five. They would they would win the
whole thing, because this is like the two thousand nine
Pro Bowl team that they've signed in the off season.
But my highest rated player is Greg Robinson, the tackle.
I love Greg Robinson what he brings to the table.
But the Oakland Raiders need to start scoring some touchdowns.
I was gonna take Sammy Watkins, you took him right
(13:37):
before me. Sorry, I'm gonna stay at the position. I'm
gonna take Mike Evans. So you made this statement, we
need to score touchdowns. So you're valuing a wide out
over a tackle in that effort. Well, I'm looking at
what they did at tackle in free agency. Brought in
Donald Pin, they brought in Austin Howard, they drafted Mente
like Watson in the second round last year. Let's get
a weapon on the outside. We brought Shop over here
to throw the ball. Give him some way and go
(13:58):
up and get it for him. Did you think somebody
go up and get it form He'll give it to somebody.
Don't go over and get it. You think not about quarterback. You.
I just don't have anybody rated to do it. Points
will be scored five off the board so far. Clown Manzel,
Mac Watkins and Evans will be back after this break.
(14:23):
Johnny Manziel quarterback Texas and m University and the like
that the run to the Tan to the five, look
at the out. I'm a guy that's gonna work extremely
hard to continue to develop my physical tools, but at
the same time and the guy that's gonna parm my
heart out for my teammates and really give it all
(14:44):
I have. So I can't even I'm extremely blessed to
be in this position and just looking forward to what
the future hasn't store. I gotta confess I think Johnny
Manzel is gonna be very good in the National Football League.
And if you're a Rams fan, even if you do
love Sam Bradford, you gotta think to yourself, if you
compete being with Kaepernick and Russell Wilson for the next
decade plus, why not get yourself a dynamic presence at
(15:05):
the quarterback position. I just don't think less need in
the Rams are gonna go and do that at number two,
And I must confess it made the shot economy very
very upset. I also have to confess that there's not
much tape left on my mustache, all Rich, you just
can't help yourself. If you get a good prop and
(15:25):
you're gonna be you're gonna kill got nothing, lef Alright,
five picks in the books, and I think what is
obvious when you look here is I don't think I've
seen a mock draft yet where one of the tackles
didn't go in the first five picks. So, Mooch, you're
sitting there and you're playing Thomas to Mitch Roff, and
their need is edge rush on defense and offensive line
(15:49):
protect Matt Ryan on offense. You got your pick of
those tackles, man, the pick of the litter, and Thomas
Demetrof and I go way back. His dad cut me
in Hamilton's So yeah, the Falcons, I think would have
tried to trade up and see if you get a
guy like Leo Mac help out Mike Nolan's defense. You know,
(16:12):
but they need help. They don't run the ball, well,
throw the ball too much, and they don't stop the
run either. They don't sack the quarterback. They went from
best team in the NFC to four and twelve, so
they need some help. Well, how do you help the
run game? And how do you help Matt Ryan their
franchise player. You get an offensive lineman. Right now, we
(16:32):
have the pick of all the tackles in the draft
would have been I would have been happy with any
one of the three. So I'm just gonna take the
first one right now. Greg Robinson from Auburn, plug him
in there, and away we go. We will be a
more physical team. He'll be better as a pass protector
as time goes on, but he will knock you off
the ball for that run game. And we'll go get
a running back, maybe in the second round. And isn't
(16:54):
that the mantra from the owner of Atlanta We need
to be tougher, more physical. He's side and Matt Ryan
getting thrown around and guy's not responding and that bothered him.
And that's one of the big deals for them, to
protect your franchise quarterback. And let's run the football a
little bit more often in better and Greg Robinson will
help us do that. I asked one Daniel Jeremiah to
(17:14):
the completely unfair question of if you have to say
one of these guys is gonna wind up in the
Hall of Fame in fifteen or twenty, Really easy it's
a ridiculous question. Yes, the same. The answer was Greg
Robinson dominant, dominant. Somebody somebody brought up the name Orlando
Pace last year in here, and I free was Marshall
when I first put the tape. One of that kid,
that's who I thought of was Orlando Pace. Now, the
(17:36):
one thing I would say, moods real quickly. You made
a comment about moving up, and I looked at the
trade chart last night about Atlanta getting going for just
say six to one, it's about fourteen hundred points. It's
the equivalent plus reminus of their second and third round
picks this year plus the one next year. I think
that's way too expensive. So let's go from there to
Tampa Bay at seven new GM, Dennis said he new
(18:00):
head coach Love Smith critical pick here, which way you're going, David, listen,
don't start with me, Jeremy. Don't show off for your
fancy friends. Here is my time spotlight now cornerback in
that division. You want obviously at the secondary to slow
down those uh, those high powered passing offenses. But I
(18:21):
think with alter On Verner and Jonathan Banks and Mike
Jenkins coming over now, they're pretty squared away there. I
hate to do it. No one takes the tackles because
it's not sexy as they say. That's why the first
five picks didn't include one. But I feel like I
have to do it here, and I really feel bad
about it because this guy's gonna now have to wear
that hideous new uniform that they have. I don't know,
(18:43):
they've got a load of it. It's quite ugly. And
the man wearing that is Jake Matthews of Texas A
and m Jake Matthews last number seven. That's probably as
solid pick as you get. Did you think at all
about either of He didn't. He was on the uniform,
so I got. I got you you didn't think at all.
I got. But we took two picks, Dave, great job
(19:11):
by you. Happy to introduced the uniforms, and we'll be
right back with pick number eight and Michael VI eighty eight.
Now the games, I need somebody to get them. The
you guys love he went one and nine. I'm going
to get now. I want some more touchdowns. I do
(19:36):
not Mike zimmer Head coach, North Turner offensive coordinator. These
guys I know Will nor Turner in his offensive system
delivered three Super Bowl rings in my safe. Right now,
I know the kind of players stay like. He's still
on the board. He I'm about to get him right now.
I like that, Michael. I know what kind of players
that you like, right Yes, yes, yes, you know. Nor
(19:59):
No likes to go the field with that football. He
likes that big guy that sits in the pocket, Troy
eight comman like, and he is still sitting here. Matt
Castle is not the answer. Certainly we've seen Kristin pund
of not being the answer. I think nor would love
to have Blake Borders right in this spot, a big
guy to can drop back and deliver that ball to
Cordarrel Patterson running timing routes. I like Blake Borders right now.
(20:21):
Let's talk about chain of command. All you talked about
was North Turner. That's the offensive ordinator. He's answering into
a head coach and the general manager. Now I assume
you got the endorsement before you pulled his name. Well, listen,
let me tell you something also to now. Mike Zimmer
does a wonderful job with his defense, and he could
put people back there and play. They need offense. They
need somebody to give the greatest running back, your only
(20:44):
Hall of Fame running back still in the National Football
League right now? Adrian Peterson some help bottom line seventh
in Russian horrible when passing. I'm taking Blake Borders right there.
But do you think if Manzel is sitting there at
eight that they had pulled that trade? If if Marshall
had not gone and drafted him and two or everybody somehow,
(21:04):
if he somehow falls on Thursday, do you think NORV
and those guys would go ahead? Does this the style
that North that the system of offense works? Not necessarily?
So you know, I'm going I don't know why I'm
putting brain equity on this rich because it's not going
to happen. Blake Borders is the pick. I've already made
the pick. No more brain equity. Actually say that right,
(21:26):
and you would go with that pick. But I mean
it's calling the draft. We saw a n who the
norv go with instead of going with trend Dilford. That's
strong on quarterback? Who do you go with heat the
mobile guy? How that work out? Who couldn't. I'm just saying,
I'm just saying, let's just wait wait wait wait wait
wait wait wait wait he's telling you where he went.
(21:47):
I'm just telling you where he went. Let's talk big picture.
I'm just where he went. Rick Spielm and the GM
picked a quarterback in the first round two years ago. Okay,
keep that in the back of your mind. Number one,
number two. They were number thirty two in defense and
points allowed last year. Okay, Mike Zimmer is what a
former defense for dad. So you had to at least
think defense before you pulled that chair. An't okay. I'm
(22:09):
just making sure you're doing your due dillars with your brain.
Equity knows better than I do. But Shady McCoy and
Jamal Charles are Hall of famers as well. Adrian Peterson
is not the only right all right, coach Billick, you
are back on with the Buffalo Bills at number nine.
(22:30):
You know that I lost Jerrysburg in free agency. But
this is way truly for the safety I've got along
what Mooch was talking about. I took a first round
quarterback last year in a g manual. I gotta I
gotta protect him and I gotta give him options down
the field. Took Robert Woods last year in the second round.
Really helped out go Stevie Johnson. Uh, Doug Marone, my
coach knows you know, yeah, you want to take the
(22:52):
offensive lineman. I'd like to take Taylor Luan, but my
head coach is a former offensive line guy. He probably
thinks he can take a guy. He's got a guy
in that second third round. I gotta go with another
playmaker for first round quarterback. I'm gonna give myself a
tight end and Eric Abron. That's an interesting call, and
I think I think the tackle, like you said on
(23:14):
the board, will be enticing to them. But Abron is
the only game breaking tight end in the first round
of this draft, unless the Marrow sneaks in late obviously,
But that that's a heck of a pick. I like
that pick there. He teams with Chandler and they get
pretty good. Pretty good group there. Like that. Anybody disagree?
Nice job, coach. That's why we had you line up
(23:37):
DJ Detroit Lions. There's there's a lot of conversation coming
out of Motor City. That corner has to be the pick.
There's no corners off the board are heading that way,
or or Taylor the wan. We've got Taylor the wanted
tap tap. We could take a corner or a safety.
We can get the top safety in the draft class,
but we also have the top corner in the draft class.
Now there's some there's some mixture of opinion on the
(23:58):
top corners. For me, Justin Gilbert from Oklahoma State. Now,
I know Mike, we're a little bit different on this one,
but I look at a guy that has elite size,
he's got elite length, elite speed, and elite ball skills
now and he's an off coverage. He has some issues
we can clean up. But for the Lions in that division,
we've gotta play against the Packers and those big whiteouts
from the Bears. We got myself a big corner and
(24:19):
Justin Gilbert, this is a really interesting conversation to take
one minute from people at home to be inside a
draft froom. Okay, Daniel is a former former scout. He
sees things from the scouts personnel perspective. I'm the son
of a coach. I see the thing a little bit
more that way. Okay, almost every coach I've talked to
in the league about the corners prefers Virginia tex Fuller
(24:42):
and Michigan States Stark, wes Denard. Why because they're accountable.
You can trust them. They don't get beat deep. Their
ceilings not as high as the guys the scouts life,
which is Robi from Ohio State and Gilbert from Oklahoma State.
So it's kind of an interesting conversation. And in the room,
the coaches are fighting for their guy and the sculptors saying, no,
his ceilings up here? Is that correct overview? It's a
(25:04):
very accurate overview, Mike, so DJ takes the number one
with return skills obviously on top of the thing we
talked about. You know, you talked about the ceiling of
the player, but the floor for him. You could have
a Pro Bowl returner. I mean, the worst case scenario,
this guy is helping your football team win games, except
when his eye disciplined so bad that that his four
three can't catch up to the guy chasing them. But
(25:24):
I'm not even to go there. Okay, Tennessee Titans. That's
that's the coach's perspective. That's we're fencing. That's pretty good, right,
He thanks Charls Academic All American Tennessee Tennessee accredited Yet
Rich Eyes and you are on the board speaking of
Tennessee at number eleven, yeah, I'm I'm Ken wizzon Hunts,
(25:48):
and um, I'm looking at my quarterback and I'm seeing
a quarterback I didn't draft the sitting right there, and
I just take over on the offense. Sit in the
last two and a half seasons, forty four games has
only touchdown passes them more in a game twice. I
look at the quarterbacks out there, though, and I'm seeing
car I don't know if I take him eleventh. Overall,
(26:10):
I don't know about Bridgewater either, And I know I
need a running back c J two ks in New York.
But that's too early to do this here. Verner is
no longer playing for me anymore. You took Gilbert. I'm
gonna go ahead and take Kyle Fuller off the board
and put him at corner and go play some defense
and try and keep Andrew Luck at bay in that regard.
You know what, rich, I think your your logic is
(26:31):
really good in that they have to look at the
quarterback position, and Whizz is an inheriting locker, So Depenny,
who's on the board at that point. I think it's
a consideration, Well what do you consider? Do you think
if he's sitting right there? I think he has to
think about him now whether or not he pulls the
trigger there. It's a great time as a new coach
to pull the trigger on a new quarterback. Now. I
think they need the corner, and I think they feel
(26:52):
like they can compete quickly. So I think it's a
ultimately with what you were left with on the board,
I do believe they'd go corner there. Kyle for Virginia Tech.
So great. When Mike Mayock approves of your pickets, better,
life is so much. The flowers smell better, just everything watter. Yeah,
let me try it right now. You're good, You're right.
(27:15):
I don't need prompts. Okay, now now that we just
got that all out of his system, Marshall, Marshall, you
started and you got everybody in Radio City Musical going crazy.
The fans are beeping horns and St. Louis right now
you're gonna come back and what are you gonna do here?
And bot away? There's some interesting people still sitting there.
The board might have worked out perfectly for you. Well,
(27:37):
Charles has got to go first to the dozen pick
giants first. You just bypassed the giants altogether. And this
crap that was the heck of an intro, Charles trying
to do that commissive? What is my Charles Marshall Tipps picked?
Then Charles can swoop? Charles go ahead, man, Well we
(27:57):
know we know elies in a boot and coming out
of the boot and trying to get himself ready to go.
But all the turnovers last year for the Giants forty four,
I believe it was last year points per game in
total offense last year for the Giants. The guy that
there's an intriguing guy in defense that really think about
it was a defensive tackle. But Taylor Lawan is still
(28:18):
sitting there, isn't he? You gotta take care of Eli.
Last year they went and got Justin Pew. I think
Justin Pew maybe is better inside, but nothing else right side.
I got Taylor Lawan on the left side. I'm getting
my quarterback taken care of. I've got to let him
get hit less and let him throw the ball to
other people. Less give me Taylor Lawan mean nasty a
(28:43):
Michigan man going to New York? Did you think you
probably didn't think you had Taylor jan was gonna be there?
Did you once he was there, did you think about
Zack Martin or was it just Taylor? For me, it
was Taylor Lawan because I want to show up. I
want to show up the tackles spot. That's the spot
I really want to get. Because I'm if I'm getting
Zack Martin. I know he can play tackle. I might
(29:05):
want him to play Guarden be an All proformer. Okay, well,
I'll tell you what. That's pretty good. Look right there.
I like what happened. I'm surprised, Luwan laughted to hear.
On deck is Marshall Falk And when we come back,
we will talk about that second pick for the g M.
Marshall Falk day. We look forward to you represent this
uh at the draft. UH, please get the card in
(29:28):
all time. Come on, coach, I don't need more pressure
on me. I have the weight of the Black and
Golden Nation already on my shoulders. Rest assured though, I
will do the right thing. Yes, I've talked to your
pal ike Taylor. I understand his interest in Lewis Knicks
or somebody on the inside anchor the defense there like
(29:48):
Casey Hampton once did for you. But I think it's
gonna be dark question are as long as he sticks around.
I ain't gonna be around forever. Pretty cool. Hunt. David
got the head coach of the Pitts Steelers with a
yeah from the banks of the three Rivers, And now
the coach is sending me, can you name them? The Rivers?
(30:11):
Of course, I go ahead, The Allegheny and the Monoga
Hala converged to form the Mighty Ohio. My man's good.
I wouldn't expecting that. Nice job, David score. All right, Marshall,
let's talk about pick thirteen at number two. You took
Johnny Football, Johnny touchdown, whatever you want to call him.
(30:32):
Everybody's energized. What are you gonna come back and do
with thirteen? This is simple, easy what you do because
you know your division. I'm not gonna take long with this.
I'm gonna go Zack Martin, Jack Martin, and I think
they'd be jumping up and down for joy. Jack Martin
was sitting there at number thirteen, the fourth tackle. Now,
where are you gonna play him? Well, we're gonna start
(30:53):
him mat right, Yeah, because we kicks that fold in
the guard right. Hopefully longs back maybe Long maybe maybe
maybe he gets to work at left because Long might
be coming back from the a c L. Maybe he'll
get to work out left. We get to see what
our future is like that left. If you can move
on that left, we get those maybe. If we're lucky,
we get three to four years out along. If not,
we have our left. I think you're having the hell
(31:15):
of a draft. That's a hacker pick right there, because
he can play all five offensive line positions. He gives
you that flexibility and he can play at a high level.
So I'll tell you what St. Louis's energized right now,
Ny touchdown and Zack Martin next on the board, number
four right now, because I have three guys on the
(31:36):
board that will help my Chicago Bear football team. And
we were pretty darn busy in the in the off
season signing defensive outside guys that Jared Allen's and Lamar Houston's,
Israel and Donna j Willie Young. I'm gonna take your guys.
I've got three guys to consider it helping defense, Aaron
Donald and a couple of safeties, Clinton Dix and the
(32:01):
guy that I really like now, Calvin Pryor. So that's
the quick discussion that we're going to hit. So I'm
gonna pick I might just surprise you because we play
against some good quarterbacks in this league and I need
somebody in center field can come up cover with slug.
I'm gonna go with the Louisville Slugs. He will hit
(32:22):
you now, Shack, he will hit you up a little bit.
That surprised you a little bit, doesn't I love this guy. Oh.
I like the pick, and I think safety is logical.
Um Aaron Donald for me as much as much as
I love the guy. They've already got like three three
techniques run around there. They don't have any big bodies.
I think that's an interesting pick. Calvin Pryor Michael is
(32:44):
all excited. Alvin, can you you're out on the board.
We're gonna get damage with a personal endorsement from Mike Tomlin.
Where are you going? I understand the gravity of this
selection to eight and eight years unacceptable for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
(33:08):
We need to show up the secondary. Mike Mitchell now
joins Troy Palamalu back there like Taylor Long in the tooth.
We need some help at the corner spot. All my options.
I was excited about Eric Ebron like he's now off
the board. Dark West Denard the only choice. I think
dark excellent. Choy you mentioned mentioned like Tail, he's thirty
(33:30):
four years old. He took a pay cut from over
seven million Downald that little over too, just to stay
with the Steelers. I think they have to have some
help on the back end, especially because it leaves Aaron
Dunn for you, Especially because Michael, when we looked at
the Dallas Cowboys and we talked defense, because we talked
(33:50):
so much only about Tony Romo, what does defense last? Total? Defense,
twinter six scoring, rushing twin is seventh, passing third to third,
now twin and ninth sex when it's still reds old
thirty first. Defense is so bad everybody should get back
all of their money from that. I am taking right here.
I'm running up with Donald right now. We need some
(34:12):
help on that lie and I'm taking Pitt. Oh don't,
I'm taking Donald right now, Coach. I appreciate you leaving,
I mean both of my guys with him and on
that one right that was that was run up there
in Dallas. Didn't they sign a guy in free agency
similar similar to him? Yeah, but we need a whole
bunch of them right now, Coach, did you see us
(34:34):
last yearn't see that thing anybody where gone either what
I'm leading to And I just got ask him, Mike, Mike,
do you know women? Mike? You know Dallas? Okay? They
do who they just signed free agency Mountain right right,
kind of trading three technique. But he's thirty three years old. Okay,
So Donald slides and did you think it all though?
(34:55):
About the kid from u C l A. Bar Marshall
and I talked about him just the other day coming
off the end and coach Coachmura loves him. He loves him,
and he thinks he could be the surprise in this
draft of course, sort of like uh like like your
boy over in San Francisco and really get to yeah, yeah,
but I love him outain. You know what all he's
going through? What do you know what I'm saying? But
(35:17):
but Coach, I want to shore up my inside. I
would tell you one thing just to wrap this thing
up and good. There is not one defensive player on
Dallas now that DeMarcus Ware has gone. Shawn Lee's hurt
a lot. There's not one guy that scares me on
that defense, not one disruptive player. I think ultimately that's
what you gotta find good job, Michael Irving. Let's take
(35:38):
a break and when we come back up next Coach
Billick with the alma mater, Baltimore Ravens. Good evening, ladies
and gentlemen, and welcome to Super Bowl thirty. He's got
(35:59):
a touch the racist. Ye. A lot of water under
the bridge and a lot of gray hair since that
Super Bowl. But by the way, the Baltimore Ravens got
their second Super Bowl. Most intense time in the draft room, Mike.
(36:21):
Remember we're trying to move up to get Byron Left,
which we're holding off Jacksonville. All of a sudden doesn't
fall that way. Minnesota screwed up the pick. All of
a sudden, we look up. We got Terrell. Sucks. Not
a bad fallback for a Pro Bowl football player. Coach,
I gotta kick out of saying that some some rare
emotion from you to take us back just quickly and
(36:41):
give us a moment, whether it was with a player
during the season, whether it was just a conversation with
your wife where you just kind of felt at the
end of the day what the Super Bowl was all about.
I've told a story many times in the infinite wisdom
of the NFL. They decided the next day that the
winning coach has to stand front of a thousand media
people at eight o'clock in the morning. You know, you
(37:04):
just win the Super Bowl, I d J. We're up
all night. Six o'clock in the morning, I figured I
better go freshening myself up. So I go back to
my suite in the shower, and I had, for lack
of a better term, a panic attack because I'm thinking,
I've won the Super Bowl in my second year. What
do you do now? Where do you go from here?
And uh, that's that's when it really hit men, Well,
(37:25):
this is real. This is the real deal. And obviously,
I mean you get over right away and you're still
excited about it, but it all of a sudden puts
you on a path and becomes very real. You know,
mooch coach all your whole life, and all of a
sudden you're sitting there holding that trophy and it becomes
very very real. I guess it's a little different getting
to the top than the view when you finally get there. Oh, absolutely,
(37:46):
it's okay. How quickly are They're gonna run me out
of town? Now? If I don't give me a second,
you know, and then once you get the second one,
you gotta get the third one, right Get us the
third one right now, Ozzy Knews America, Costa Harbor. If
they're on the clock number seventeen, what would you do
to make this a better football team? Everybody says that
you're gonna take the best player available right on your board,
but very few teams live by a DJ. We know
(38:08):
that room that they live by. It. It's awful nice
when that board matches up with our need. They gotta
need a safety. Took matt Elm last year, uh in
the first round, and we also do this DJ, you
gotta need You got a player like like ha ha
Clinton Dix and he's from Alabama. You go in and
you're gonna face Ozzy now Mr Alabama and try to
(38:29):
convince him to do something else. You better have a
lot of bullets in that gun. And I got another quote,
but there's another pretty highly rated Alabama defensive player at
this point is Las last name loosely. But I need
there again, my need versus they're both right there and
they're both Alabama guys, but I need that safety. I
saw what my secondary looked last year. I got them
(38:49):
both on the board the same way I'm gonna go with.
I'm gonna go with the safety. And you know why
that's I think a good pick as far as just
the safety is that because he matches well with the
eland who was a little more comfortable in the box.
I think Clinton Dix is better in space. So you've
got your safety set up ready to go. Marshall Falk
your first pick outside of the state of Missouri, it's
(39:11):
New York Chests. Yeah. And when you think about it,
just just looking at the Jets and and how how
how they are built and what they want to do. Um,
they want to control the line of scrimmage on both
sides of the ball. And and I think, um, if
you're going to to all of a sudden you acquire
(39:32):
to running back, you go get Eric Decker. You think
your quarterback is the guy you need to be able
to block form. I like uh, Suaphilo, Xavier Slow. You
like Suaphilo? You like him over the third wide, out,
the third corner, all those others. We're gonna dominate up front. Yes,
(39:55):
I do. I got Decker, I paid Decker, I I
got that situated. Um, Chris Johnson, I like that. Um,
I'll tell you what I want. You like him better
than Here's here's the thing. Here's the thing. If I'm
the GM and I drafted a corner last year and
you got to see my corner struggle all year, I
(40:17):
just don't think he's gonna struggle. It's kind of a
safe pick in a sense, but it's a need as well.
At that point, Rex is going to go have a
snack because I mean, with C. J. Moseley sitting on
d exactly, that's the whole point, you know, And I know,
I know it's his, it's his show. Um, now that
(40:38):
I'm the Dolphins. Right after that, um, I was, I
was eyeing Sue Philo because with the Miami Dolphins, that
offensive line is a super fun site and needs federal
help cleaning it up. Federal, yes, yes, and almost they
did call in. They could call in a lawyer to
(41:00):
help me, all right. So um uh, fifty eight sacks
allowed last year league high one total rushing touchdown in
the last six games of last year. I'm gonna go
with Quanjo here. I'm gonna take Kuan Jo and you know,
and I know he's got some injury issues. That's why
(41:20):
I was probably pretty much looking at Sue Philo because
of his also off the field impeccable credentials there, which
is what you sort of need. Let's put it this way,
He's not gonna be having offensive meetings at at at
any place with the words spearmint in it. So um,
I'm gonna go with Kuanjo from Alabama. And if they're
forced to sit there and the board lays out this way, Rich,
(41:42):
I think that's what you're gonna see. I also think
it's a logical trade down. If you're looking for a
team like San Francisco, who traded up a year ago
to go get ark Read they've got twelve picks, six
of them in the first hundred. They got to get
a corner or wide out. They probably feel like their
board is gonna be decimated by pty. I think Miami
would love to move down a certain number of picks
(42:04):
and still get Quanjo or another offensive lineman. Go ahead,
May I also go back to to falks pick there.
I think it's better have some mirror plugs because the
boo birds that are the Jets fans and Radio City
Music Hall will never be louder than if they take
a guard over one of those game and not a receiver. Yeah,
is that what you're saying? Yeahs Kano at number nineteen
(42:26):
when we come back. Charles Davis is on the board.
Arizona at ten and six, a non playoff team a
year ago from everybody. The sixth and NFL media mock draft.
(42:49):
Michael Urgan is sitting on this side of das reasons.
I don't know that he's a generational pass rusher, but
he's pretty darn I think that's a good solid I
gotta go Johnny manzero. Know what you're going for? Three
rich eyes and you're own the clock with Jackson. There's
Sandy Watkins could be the guy, and I drafted to
little back number, but I've got to go there with
(43:10):
Sammy Watkins. Andy watch in the pick number four. I
think the wild guard in the top ten is the
open rate of one player away from winning the Super Bowl.
That's if they can get Doc Brown and his or
in and go back in time. But I hate to
do it. No one takes the tackle it because it's
not sexy. It's probably as solid pick as you get.
I just don't think less need in the Rams are
gonna go and do that at number two, and I
must confess it made the shot economy very very upset.
(43:34):
I also have to confess that there's not much tape
left on my mustache. Wow. Nineteen picks into this draft,
we've got six offensive linemen, including an interior offensive lineman,
three corners, and some prominent names still on the board.
I look at my board. I've got C. J. Moseley,
Anthony barr Odell, Beckham, Ryan Shazy or Brandon Cooks. There's
(43:58):
an awful lot of grillly good, high profile players left.
And at number twenty Charles Davis Arizona. I think it's
got an intriguing choice here. Well, Carson Palmer, their quarterback
a few weeks ago. Essentially for the organization, let everybody
know it's okay if you want to take a quarterback
in the first round. I mean, he pretty much put
out they do that. I'm fine with it. There won't
(44:19):
be any controversy the whole deal. Well, that's probably going
to be Blake Bortles if he somehow managed to stay
around and he went off the board at eight. There's
an outside linebacker who has not been picked yet. John
Abraham had a terrific year last year. But he's about
eight hundred and six now, so how many more years
can he have like that? He's been phenomenal. You know,
(44:42):
Anthony Barr U c l A gotta take him. I
think I think they'd be ecstatic if he's sitting there
at the ten and six. I think thought he was
gone to Dallas. They need the edge guy. That's a
great pick. I just think his best football is two
years down the road, which is fine because he can
split time right now with Barr the former the remember
running back, two years at linebacker. You know, some people
(45:02):
see him maybe as a defensive end in a four
or three. So I like him. That's a good right
there before d J. You're twenty one now, and I
got a lot of You have more options than I
would have expected to take us through. What your thought
process is here, Well, we we look on the offensive
side of the ball. Could go for a receiver, Lost
(45:23):
Jones of free agency, tight end, Michael Finley not there,
could look at tight end. But then I just look
on the defensive side of the ball. And you watch
this team play last year. I mean the numbers here,
I mean twenty six plus points and nine of the
of the last ten games they allowed, So I think
you can look on the defensive side of the ball
with this decision. The two safeties are gone, but I've
got two linebackers and c. J. Mosley and Ryan Shazier
(45:46):
that well, I can't lose. I can't lose with either guy.
Different strengths with him. I think C. J. Mosley for
his ability to take on blocks and be more physical
than shas Here, I give him the nod. I think
he'd be a nice pick here one for the Packers,
and he's a little more used to playing the inside
linebacker in the thirty four, where Shasier is a little
bit more used to the four three will linebacker. Not
(46:07):
that he can't play that inside, but I think that's
a solid pick. And their number twenty four and points
allowed not good. They've got to get better influx. Charles
Davis right of athleticism without a doubt. And I think
the point Daniel made about the taking on blocks versus,
you know, versus not being able to do it quite
at the same level with shas Here. When I talked
(46:29):
with a couple of guys in the Big Ten last year,
that's the one thing they cited about shas Here that
that there's a tackle who will be talking about next year,
he'll go nameless in that conference. Who really got after
shas here? And he couldn't get off the blocks at
all in terms of that, And that's what people kind
of pointed to about officially one thing you're gonna knock
him for that would be it the question the question
when Mosley, Um, when you get that inside linebacker and
(46:51):
and and usually we're talking about that Alabama guy. Um,
you line up and you line up in regular personnel,
that tight end he has to cover that tight When
that guy rushes, can he cover that tight end? Or
do you now have to compromise your coverage by dropping
into safety or are you flipping him right putting him
on the other side, putting the guy that can better
cover to the tight end side, which which is why
(47:13):
in those thirty four fronts there's typically a Will and
Sam and that Will is more like an outside linebacker,
so he can cover the tight ends. And I think
shasi Er and Mosley are today's NFL linebacker. That's that's
what they're looking for. Interesting thing just happened, I believe,
so Mosley solid pick here. I think the Philadelphia Eagles
would have been sitting here salivating for bar to continue
(47:34):
their slide. So, Mooch, would you have thought about a
trade up? In the real world. We can't trade here,
But in the real world, you're a twenty two when
nineteen was on the clock and bar is sliding, would
you thought of making a move to try to get
ahead average? And you're talking about the Eagles, who can't
stop anybody in the passing games, so you either add
some cover guys or add some rushers, And absolutely that
(47:55):
would have been a consideration. And so and then there
goes another linebacker with Mosley too, And so we're gonna
sit there at two Philadelphia Eagles. We know we're not
very good in past coverage and and and uh so
the corner that's left in my mind, hang on, Michaels,
I'm not gonna take him. I'll let you have him later.
(48:17):
Bradley Roby from Ohio State. It's a good corner. I
know that. However, I can't keep the thought out of
my mind. I got a quarterback that I really like
in Nick Foles, and we lost a couple of receivers.
Jason Vonn's gone, and yeah, DeShawn Jackson, where did he go,
I've got to fill some of those holes. And there's
a guy named Odell Beckham from l s U that
(48:37):
is big time. He can return, he can play inside
the slot, he can play outside. He is a fabulous athlete,
and he's a playmaker. That guy is a I can't
believe he's sitting there at two, Odell Becca If it
rolled out that way the outside linebacker bar was gone
and Beckham was on the board, I think they'd be ecstatic. Right.
(48:59):
He fits well with what they do, returns, kicks, does everything.
Number twenty Now we're excuse me, we're over the twenty
three day Damaschek. Kansas City Chiefs coming off a pretty
good rookie season with the John Dorsey and Andy Reid. Yeah. Absolutely.
People seem to have forgotten all about this Chiefs team
because of the way they finished things. Out of course,
they you know, they're they're undefeated when they play the
(49:21):
Broncos for the first time. Then they lose those couple
and then the wheels come off in Indianapolis and that
playoff game. But I think much of it can be
corrected by trying to keep up with the Joneses or
the patents of the division, gotta go wide receiver here.
Look who number one overall is. It's Jadeveon Clowney. He
didn't play well in and yet he's still number one.
(49:42):
Same logic applies Marquis Lee dynamic in so so game
breaker and alongside Dwayne Bow and Jamal Charles officially a
potent offense. So you were locked in on receiver there,
which makes sense, I think, looking at what they need,
and you didn't think Brandon Cooks. Well, so I remade
(50:02):
my own man, Michael, don't you that's a good quest.
I was gonna see the same thing between the two
Lee and Cooks. Why Cook's not a shot? Just wanted
to way, Yeah, because of I know that we're now,
we're eighteen months removed from it. But the season that
Marquise Lee had two years ago was spectacular. I mean,
(50:24):
think about where we were about a year ago. If
Marquise Lee had been available, he would have been a
That's that's always media talk because you don't start the
breakdown tape of those underclassmen until they declare. So it's
all the media. It's all of us knuckleheads gone, oh
he's a top ten pick, but they're not real pretty
six months later when everybody gets from pizza breaking them down,
(50:45):
that's what happens. So I get it, but I think
a lot of that is manufactured by the media. And
markis Lee had a great two thousand, alright, so Brandon
cooks it is there. That was That was the general conversation, Michael,
I beg for people to put the paper Cincinnati. Now
(51:10):
before you give me a peck? Are you thinking quarterback
at all here? Because listen to me a second. Dalton, Okay,
if they played pretty good again and make the playoffs again,
are they gonna pay him fifteen to twenty million dollars?
And can you afford to pay Andy Dalton that kind
of money and still be a good team after you
do that? Ye? In our green room, before we were
(51:33):
in this green room, we were talking about that because
I had heard rumblings or maybe Derek Carr in this
spot right here, and I mean, I don't that will
crack the score off and the dog and any Jay
green hen pick in the dog? Why would you start
at all? I got three corners that are going to
(51:54):
be thirty years old, and noonan uh Leon Hall and
uh Pat Man for formally know I'm a Pat man
Adam Adam Jones formally his pac man. I should say
so right here, coach, when he left him on the board.
Oh stay uh roby rights there you knew I was
running that card up to get some of these old dudes.
I just gotta get me some young guys on a
pretty good geographical matchup to Ohio right up the street.
(52:22):
So we're through picks now. I like the match up
at corner. I think they have to think quarterback at
some point though, and when we come back, you don't
bring They gotta think about the Dolts. That's the conversation.
Brian belts on back San Diego Charger. Excuse me, I'm
(52:44):
talking about how you get In two thousand San Francisco,
we had the third pick in the draft. Well, we
were able to parlay that third pick for the sixteenth
pick and pick in the draft and acquired three news
starters for our football team, Julian Peterson, Ahmed Plumber, and
(53:08):
Jason Webster. It's a win win for the team's that trade.
Washington moved up to Chris Samuels. Yea coach. Pretty awesome.
I'll get multiple picks like that and then take advantage
of them, which is the second piece. Let's get that
opportunity to do that. But boy, you consider it when
it's on the table. Okay, let's go from one coach
the other. Coach Billick san Diego coming off a pretty
(53:31):
good season. There's one corner left on the board. Are
you going there? You probably have to be on the
offensively last year. We went offense last year and kind
of got Philip Rivers back on track. John Pagan on
the defensive coordinators, going, look, I got you gotta give
me some help here. You know, we're in a division
now with some pretty good offenses and they were so
bad at the corner. I need an interior defensive lineman.
(53:53):
But it's way too early for that. So Roby was
gonna be a guy obviously that I had to think about.
Jason Varette is the next up for me, whether no
matter where I haven't on the board, I gotta reach.
I love the kid, and the only knock on who
was he's five nine. He's gonna lose some jump alls,
but he's one of the most competitive kids I think
in this entire draft. So we're gonna put Jason Varette
down here in Charles Davis. How fortunate are you. You
(54:17):
got Sammy Watchings at number four and I can't believe
we're coming back to twenty six and you gotta pick
of quarterbacks? Are you going there? I got a bevy
of quarterbacks, don't We were Ucopia. We were talking before
we came back at the break about these quarterbacks and
what they present. And Derek Carr had a terrific pro day.
(54:39):
Prolific player. I mean, you talk five thousand yards in
a college season, through it all the time, had some
games that things didn't go quite as well as you
wanted when there's pressure in his face. There's a kid
who had a horrible Pro Day that we all know
about and has taken more dings in the off season.
But one thing that's never been questioned about him is
his toughness and his ability to stand and deliver in
(54:59):
the pocket. Teddy Bridgewater is going to Cleveland, Teddy, I
like that good pick. Charles and the guys playing with
a broken left wrist in a high ankle spring to
get them to the BCS. And then that hit the
John Boston hit him with the game remember that game
and jumped up and was game what Charles? Here, here's
(55:24):
what I like about it. Also is that I think
he can read shirt a year, which I think he
needs as far as just developing that. Let Hoyer come
back and lead that team. That by the way, the
two deep depth chart on that team is pretty good.
Mike Petton and that team and heard it a pretty
good group of players. They could be fun. I like
the pick uh which Sammy Watkins too. Watkins. They resigned
(55:46):
Mack and free agency got him back after the tender.
Bridgewater will be back in a minute. Rich Eisen studiously
getting ready for his pick with the second in the
first round and off the Mark fall find the whole
Indianapolis called select kind of jump down round fault. How
(56:07):
already we're away for a big play like that running
back San Diego State? Fine down? What a great plate
and looks into zone. Man, I remember the draft. I
mean it was reality TV before reality TV. Watching yourself
and your family experience a life altering moments is something
(56:30):
that I'll never forget. Twenty years ago this Thursday, well,
Mark my draft date so special. Yeah. Wow, you know what, Marsha,
that whole thing I gotta kick out of. Forget, forget
the holding and the commissioner, the tape. What did you say,
get away from the USC, but what were you doing?
(56:53):
You know, it's all about Southern California and they don't
give us any respect. So anytime we got a chance
to sit to the Ruins interest, would you have two?
Would you have even cal Mooch came up north? Very cool,
There's more. There's more out there than I thought you'd have. Yeah.
I have the honor and responsibility of choosing for Marshall
(57:15):
fowks hometown team in the place where he wants. So
it's right, Um, they need a corner. There's my My
draft board is decimated at that position, offensive line. Nobody
right now is that best player on the board from
that position. Right, Obviously they need some help at linebacker,
(57:35):
but Lance Moore is gone, some of a lot of
those guys are long in the tooth, and Sean Payton
wants a weapon, and Brandon Cooks is exactly that. So
I'm gonna put him with helmet and go with from
instead of Ryan Chaser, I'm gonna go with a guy
from the Oregon State University. Another quick, good pick. Marshall.
(58:01):
Everybody's been talking white out and tackle. Did you want
that guy? Coo? I did? I did not only that
I talked to Richard about that pick and rich said,
asked me what I said, he would take him, and
I was hoping he would not. He would not take him,
but Sean Payton would definitely take the guy. But listen,
I'm a I'm gonna go out on the limit. I'm
I'm telling you, I'm gonna do it. I Am going
(58:23):
to do it, and I'm gonna talk to you guys
through this. Cam has been throwing to a small receiver
for a long time doing it. I'm going to give
him a target that he doesn't have to be as accurate.
I've heard my Hall of Fame buddy. Right here, my girls,
and tell me you can cover the field every way,
(58:43):
but you can't challenge a man vertical when you're too short.
I'm going with Calvin Benjamin want. I wanted them to
see how Calvin benjam been a big target. He right,
nobody care because of that big body and the buzz
word right now the Daniel Jeremia, I'm gonna keep this
(59:06):
all right, Daniel Jeremiah, twenty nine, New England. All kinds
of defensive tackle, defensive blind injuries, you go in there
or somewhere else. Well, there's a lot of interesting defensive
lineman here. Rashid Haguman to me is one of the
more intriguing guys in the whole draft. Depends on which
tape you watch. You watch, you could love him and
you could really not like him at all. I'm gonna
reach a little bit right here, and I'm gonna give
Tom Brady and his fresh new haircut a new weapon
(59:29):
to play. I know where you're going. I'm gonna go
Austin Seferian Jenkins. I'm god, and I thought you were
going with the other tighten Jason Bartow and Jayson Marrow
kind of fits more of that Aaron Hernandez role that
a has had in that defense exactly. But Austin Jenkins
is gonna give me somebody. Rob Gronkowski hadn't been able to.
Now I've got two big trees that I can use
(59:50):
down the same and you're thinking more two thousand twelve
ay Sjay exactly two hundred sixty something pound Austin, and
I thought for sure you were going tomorrow there just
because he's so much Gernandez. Yeah, he fits fits right here.
We go, Mo, San Francisco. What a surprise at thirty
I would have thought you would have traded up by now. However,
what do we got. We've got picks all over the place,
(01:00:12):
eleven in this draft, six in the first one. I
would definitely move up and get a player that I want,
and it could be very early because we've got enough
enough chips to do that. But since I'm sitting here
at thirty and I need receivers, I would have loved
to have a Cook's or a Beckham. They didn't get
to me. Um, But I'm looking at my defense. We
(01:00:33):
built this city on rock and roll and defense, right,
And there's a guy sitting on the board named Ryan Shazier.
Do I need him? We have the best linebacking corps
in the league. But I've got an injury with Navarro Bowman,
I've got Alden Smith, I've got a couple of guys.
Get a little older. Ryan Shais here is a versatile
(01:00:56):
guy that is a superb athlete that I can and
put him in a lot of different spots for depth
and whoever I draft this later. If you get Shazier
at thirty, you don't even have to say a word.
That's a great pick. We'll be back in a minute
with the final two draft picks. That's pretty cool. Sixth annual,
(01:01:39):
about six years in a row. This is pretty cool.
We're at the end of it. Two picks left. Dave
damashek Denver Broncos. When the a f C took a
beating in the Bowl, how do you get better? Well,
I think that this is a team clearly with adding
to Marcus well and to where Marcus where and keep
(01:02:00):
to leave there in wind now mode. I don't like
the way their QB wilted under the big light to
the Super Bowl. I'm going Jimmy Garoppolo. No, I'm gonna
go with I think Peyton has always benefited from the
early days with Marshall, with Marshall and the Reggie Waye
and Marvin Harrison Broncos. I'm going for the Y. I'm
(01:02:21):
going Jarvis Landry of LS I think extra weapon right
the kid. Okay, We're going Jarvis Landry, which is probably
gonna be it right in because here's what I'll tell you,
defense of you. When you put the tape on the
l s U, you can't tell which guy runs the
four four. Jarvis Landry is one of the toughest football
(01:02:43):
players on tape. He's one of my favorite players. I
don't think he's going to the third round, to be
honest with you, but the pick. He's a natural slot.
He'll play four teams on special teams. But the four
seven one that he ran into forty scared a bunch
of people. I'm gonna write him in. Actually we got him,
Jarvis Landry running after him. What the guy? What did
(01:03:11):
the guyst The final pick Michael Irvin and I ran
my mouth and telling Marshall how much I love the
big Kevin Benjamin because I watched him at the combine
and I wanted to work on when we got him
on game changes, him dropping his hips. By the time
he got the game change he was, he did much better.
So I can't go him with him. But I'm going
(01:03:32):
to take that tight in Jason Maria right there, because
he's a big fellow too. I need some tossing up
in the air getting that football for my right shot
right there, Jason, Yeah, I really wanted Kevin. I take that.
I wanted Calvin Benjamin right there. Yeah. Okay, we got
(01:03:52):
thirty two picks in the book. They tell me I've
got to talk about the best value up here. The
best value to me is I'm really surprised eyes at
Taylor Luan slid all the way to twelve for the
New York Giants. I think that's they're hoping to get
Zack Martin there and they get Taylor Luan. As far
as the biggest reach, I think there are two of them,
but I only think on paper. It doesn't mean they're
not good football players. The two reaches I think so
(01:04:15):
Fari and Jakins. I like the thought Danny and and
again it might be a marrow, but it's an interesting
thought because either way a tight end, I think Tom
Brady benefits. The second one was so Philo and again
only a reach because a lot of people have him
late one, early two. If he ends up starting and
being as good as Marshall thinks he is, nobody's gonna
call him or Reach a year from now. So I
(01:04:36):
think they're really solid picks, but just kind of down
the road guy. So from my perspective, guys, thanks, it
was awesome. We had a great time. Six in a row.
Stay tuned out their rich eyes and the ubiquitous the
what's your name again? Richard with his NFL Draft special
Stay tuned. I don't do that very well it's good.
(01:04:58):
You're much better. Much sounds right now because he remembers
was a podcast for a regular show. Yeah, I couldn't remember.
