Speaker 1 (00:07):
The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
What's Up, Everybody, Welcome to the Season with Peter Schrager.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
We are going into the final week of the season,
Week eighteen, but we are also heading towards the start
of the coaching hiring process that starts right.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Away next week.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
And I wanted to spend today's podcast hitting on a
lot of those different teams, a lot of these different candidates,
and I've gone through the rolodexo I wanted to have on.
Originally I was going to have on a coaching agent
to take you through what these next few weeks are like,
and I was like, that's a little bit I don't know,
it's instructive, but it can also be biased towards that

(00:56):
guy's clients. And I don't know how often do we
want to hear from agents telling us about how hard
their jobs are.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
I kind of crossed that one off the list.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Then I was going to go through one of the
potential candidates for a head coaching or GM job, and
I was like, well, that's pretty narrowly focused, and I
don't want to use this platform in this time period
as an opportunity to showcase oneself or give one guy
any edge over the other, just in case some NFL
teams are listening. Then I decided to just focus on

(01:24):
a team, and the team I wanted to focus on
as a team that has DJ Reid, a free agent
coming out and saying he's looking forward to being a
free agent after signing a massive deal with the Jets
a couple of years ago, a team that had Garrett Wilson,
the wide receiver that won Offensive Rookie of the Year
just two seasons ago. Was Zach Wilson thrown in the
ball longing for how much he missed his old offensive

(01:46):
coordinator Mike Lafleur after they got blown out by the
Rams two weeks ago at a home game, and Sauce
Gardner sending a Instagram post to T Higgins saying that
he shouldn't be going to the Jets, the team that
is in complete, complete shock right now if you are
a fan.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
So I wanted to have on as our Yes.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
One of the top Jets bloggers slash voices, he's also
in our business. His name is Joe Caparo, so he
runs the bad Lands podcast, which is probably the number
one Jets fan podcast. I thought Joe would be a
good person to speak with, and then as a second guest.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
I wanted to bring out a friend of mine, a
guy who I talked to all the time, and it's
a voice of a person who just gave up his
season tickets with the Jets that he's had his entire
life and said he's finally out.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
And his name is Danny, And Danny's the one who's
always tailgating and lot e with the Kebab guys, and
I wanted to bring him on.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
So we're gonna talk Jets. We're gonna go through all.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
The Jets stuff in a second, but before we do Jets,
I wanted to do a little bit on some of
the other teams too, and then an opening monologue of
just kind of emptying the bag quite a bit.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
First, the Bears.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
If you think Jets fans are in disarray, go talk
to a Bears fan. This week, Bears have not on
a game since before Thanksgiving. We know that the Bears
aren't an utter tailspin. To end this season with a
first overall pick who seems to be just getting the
snot kicked out of him, sacked a record amount of
times for a rookie quarterback and just in one of

(03:23):
those deals where you feel like you're gonna have to
build him up again before we could even see him flourish.
The Bears process, from what I'm being told, is going
to be run by GM Ryan Poles. Now, a lot
of Bears fans want Ryan Poles out of a job.
From what I'm told, barring any crazy, crazy news in
the next four days, Ryan Poles has a job.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
That's said.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
When the Bears fired their previous head coach, Matt Naggy,
I was on Good Morning Football at around eight am,
and I said, I think Ryan Pace is safe the
GM because he had years left on his contract. And
although Pace's big hire was Matt Naggy, I thought Ryan
Pace was going to have an opportunity to hire it

(04:08):
and to show you how tight lip the mccaskeys are.
I talked to everyone in that Bears building. I thought
I had a real grip on it. About twenty minutes later,
news came out that Ryan Pace was being let go
and he was just told and it was shocking for
some And I can tell you there are people in
the building who did not see that coming.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
So I would just say this.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Anyone who's telling you that they know for sure that
Poles is going to be the one running this search,
just let's get through Monday, because I saw this happen
the last time they did it.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Ryan Poles all cards on the table.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
I have a relationship with from his days in Kansas City.
He's been a podcast guest here, He's been a podcast
guest on My Bears Hard Knocks podcast that I do
with NFL films around the Bears Hard Knocks season. And
I could tell you that Poles and the Bears they
want to get this thing right obviously, but there are

(04:59):
other people involved.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Kevin Warren is the team president.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
And he is new, relatively new, and one of the
major things will be breaking ground on new stadium where
that ends up being. And Warren came from the Vikings
but also the Big Ten where he played a major
role there as Big Ten commissioner for many years. So
you're looking to Warren, you're looking to Poles, and then
you're looking to an ownership group and George McCaskey kind

(05:22):
of be in the face of that and all things.
I'm told Ben Johnson seems to be the guy. If
Ben Johnson wants to go there, and then Ben Johnson
would be matched with Caleb Williams, and then you could say, well,
we got the best offensive coordinator, a guy who's terrorized
us the last few years, and we put them with
our first overall pick, and away we go. If it's

(05:43):
not as clean as that, I would expect them to
also try to get in the Verbel sleepsticks. I don't
know if there's a relationship there between Vrabel and Poles,
but we do know that Rabel's going to be a
hot name. Another name I would watch, and although he
is a defensive coach, Brian Flores is the name I
would watch, and for that I would just say he
might get an interview and then could see what he

(06:04):
could do. Well, Why Brian Flores? They just fired a
defensive head coach. Why would you go Flores? Flores, also
having an outstanding season as a defensive coordinator for the Vikings,
also has connections as a former NFL head coach, knows
people all over the league. Ryan Poles and Brian Flores
were college teammates at Boston College. Something to watch. Those

(06:26):
guys know each other. I don't know how Bears fans
would would take the news of another defensive head coach
being hired, but I would say circle that name as
a possibility of at least getting an interview during the process.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
All Right, that's Chicago. They're a mess.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
They're a mess in that we don't know where they're
going to go. And if they do swing the bat
and miss on Ben Johnson, well then I think it
could get really interesting what happens there. The other team
that everyone's asking about is the Raiders. Now, the Raiders
have had two straight wins by Antonio Pierce. He is
well liked in the building. But I don't know if

(07:03):
Antonio Pierce is getting another year based on how this
season is gone. I would say with new ownership coming
in and the new ownership not being Mark Davis but
Tom Brady and Richard Seymour Patriots guys who oh, by
the way, we're teammates with Mike Vrabel. That would seem
to be a very good connection there. Rabel to the
Raiders if that job opens up. Something to watch. The

(07:28):
other team, the Saints. I gotta tell you, I was
blown away by Tom Pelisero on Good Morning Football Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
He and I did a segment where we empty the
notebook We like to surprise each other a little bit.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
We like to not give away the goods before we
get on TV. Tom Pelisaro comes on there and we're
doing the Ben Johnson and Rabel and Flores. We're talking
about those names, you know. Liam Cohen comes up and
Cliff Kingsbury comes up and it's the name, and I said,
give me a surprise name.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
And he went with John Gruden.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
And then he dropped a little nugget that the Saints
had long talks with John Gruden about being the offensive
coordinator under Dennis Allen this year, and Gruden ultimately did
not take the job, and Gruden ended up going the
Barstools Sport where he is a content creator like me
and like Aaron and like so many others who are
in the podcast game, John Gruden is currently spending his
sundays with Big Cat and Mincy and Stephen Chay and.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
A lot of those barstool guys.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
And I'll tell you what, I think it's really helped
him in his public facing.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Branding, if you will, and that he's got these great stories.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
He's breaking down the games, he's being critical, he's talking
about time management. It's almost like here you have a
look inside of Gruden unfiltered. Here's what he can do now. Oh,
the elephant in the room.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
He had these.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Horrible emails that were out there in twenty twenty one,
and he had to resign from the Raiders because of it.
And he's got a legal situation pending with the league,
and there were some horrible emails that were out there
with his name, and he's not denying that he was
the one who was attached to him. Are we in
a place for forgiveness? Are we in a place where
their teams can move on? We'll see if John Gruden
gets interviews. But if I'm looking at Mickey Loomis, who

(09:04):
is already.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Friendly with Gruden.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
They have a connection through Sean Payton, where Sean Payton
and Gruden were on the same staff in Philadelphia many
many years back. I would be interested to see if
Mickey Loomis gives John Gruden an opportunity to be the
head coach.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Of the New Orleans Saints. That's a name to watch.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
The other teams, the Jaguars, they're likely moving on from
Doug Peterson.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
I very intrigued.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Because I think that's a good job. I still do
the cons they do not meddle.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
They do not get in and say I need this player,
I want to do this.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
They are actually an ownership group that is kind of
hands free we off which is why I thought Belichick
taking that UNC job before at least entertaining the Jacksonville
job was so interesting because I thought that might have
been the place where he can come in and have
the freedom to do what he wants. The Jacksonville job
is attractive because of the freedom and the low pressure
stakes that comes with it.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
You're not in Chicago, you're not in New York. You're
not dealing with the.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Mccaskeys and their budget and running things by in their
buttoned up way.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
You're not dealing with Woody Johnson and Jacksonville.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
You're dealing with two guys, Shot and Tony Kahan father Son,
who spend money, want to win, and in a market
Jacksonville that isn't exactly a pressure cooker when it comes
to media or expectations or this burning desire that if
you don't win in one year you have to go.
Don't get me wrong, Jacksonville is great fans. They do
have great media members dedicated to that team. You just

(10:27):
can't compare it as far as media markets to New
York and Chicago. And if you're a coach who doesn't
want to deal with all that and might shy away
from all that and have freedom, Jacksonville could be a
really attractive option. And then there's the Jets. Oh, the Jets.
We're going to get to them in a second. Is
there another coach that's going to be fired on Monday?

(10:51):
If you look at it and you start looking at
the teams Dallas, it sounded like Mike McCarthy was good
to go and was going to be just fine in
that job. And yet he hasn't been resigned, he hasn't
been extended. In the second the season ends, Mike McCarthy's
a free Mike McCarthy could take his bag and he
could say, I'm gonna go on a little tour here

(11:12):
and I'm gonna interview with New Orleans where I used
to work many years ago. Or I'm gonna go talk
to the Jets because I'm a leader of men. Or
I'm gonna go talk to Chicago because I've been great
with quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott and I can
get the most out of Kayleb Williams. The Mike McCarthy
Dallas thing is interesting because everyone just assume McCarthy would
be fired because he's not. It doesn't have many years
left on his contract, But oh my gosh, does Mike

(11:34):
McCarthy have leverage here? Does Mike McCarthy have leverage and
that he might not necessarily sign right away with the
Cowboys because I might go entertain other teams offers. Is
he a hot candidate when about three weeks ago we
were like he's gonna be fired and will never coach again.
The Mike McCarthy thing is really interesting. So you got
all these teams and then you look at the other
team in New York. Is Brian Dables safe. I don't

(11:56):
think that win saved his job by any means, but
I think Brian Dabele might get another opportunity to do
this with his buddy Joe Shane. They've got a great
relationship going back to Buffalo, and if they're not cleaning
and they bring out one of the guys back, maybe they.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Bring back both.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
I have been steadfast and saying up until this point,
like I'm not saying Table's getting fired despite everyone online
just assuming he would be so at the end of
the day, I think that there might be a surprise
or too around the league. I mentioned Jacksonville, I mentioned Vegas.
I don't think there's gonna be any other firings that
are gonna I don't think Brian Callahan's one and done.

(12:30):
I don't think Zach Taylor's out. I don't think that
you're gonna see massive changes in the NFC East other
than what I just mentioned with Dallas and the Giants.
I don't think Sirianni's gone, and I certainly don't think
Dan Quinn has to worry.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
So those are kind of the areas. And yet every
year there's a surprise.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
Every year.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
I mean, I remember when Marvin Lewis was finally fired
on our show and I was gobsmacked. I remember when
they got rid of Brian Flores in Miami and that
wasn't expected, and then we learned that there was great
dysfunction in that situation.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Every year there is a surprise.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
So be ready on Monday, because every year, just when
you think things are old, they aren't give me some
classic ones. How about Doug Moron, all but thinking he
had the Jets job, and then a daily news article
comes out on New Year's Eve, and ironically I remember it,
and suddenly there was a look back at Doug Maroon,
and Doug Maroon did not have the Jets job and
had already opted out of the Bills job, and then

(13:24):
was left kind.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Of rudderless for a year trying to find.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
His way back until he ultimately got the Jacksonville job.
These things happen, Weird things happen in those final hours
leading up to Week eighteen come into a close. So
I would just say, be ready for anything, be ready
for any names. But the one that I think is
so interesting is the Jets because I don't think it
is necessarily viewed ass a horrible situation, and yet I

(13:47):
do think there are real challenges. And in the last
few days these players speaking out like they have DJ Reid,
Garrett Wilson and in Sauce Gardner online like that doesn't
bode well if you're an aspiring coach or an interested
GM like, okay, what is going on there? And Aaron
Rodgers openly saying there's a leaking problem that's real and

(14:07):
that makes it a hurdle that you have to get over. Okay,
So with all that said, enjoy Week eighteen. I'm gonna
bring on our guests right now. We're gonna talk Jets.
We're going to do a deep dive, and it's Joe
Caparoso from the bad Lands podcast, who has a great
voice as far as Jets fans feeling the pulse of
the team and obviously it does great work in content creation.

(14:29):
And then my buddy Danny, who is a now former
season ticket holder who gave up pissison tickets this year
when the email came through. He told the Jets to
take their jobs and shove it. He's out, still a
Jets fan, but he doesn't want to spend the money
on season tickets anymore with the product he's getting. I
thought that was a good person to bring on. I'm
sure he'll be rational. Both those guys are coming up
after this. All right, with no further ado, let's do

(15:00):
a Jets deep dive.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Here. My role in this conversation insider. I've got some info,
but I've also am an open mind.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
I want to hear what content creators are thinking, what
fans are thinking, and where the Jets are as far
as a fan base, going into what I think is
the most important coaching and GM search in.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
The franchise's history. I think it's hit. It's in the
deer right now.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
I think it's a it's all time low. I mentioned
it in the monologue. I think when you've got DJ
Reid saying he wants to be a free agent in
the locker room, and Garrett Wilson openly longing for Mike
Lafleur like he's Bill Walsh or Dick Vermeial or something like,
I think that's a bad sign. And then Rogers clowning
on the fact that the owner's son might be the
one to tell him he's he's hitting the bricks. It's

(15:43):
in an all time low. It's embarrassing, and I wanted
to bring on some Jets fins. It's some guys who
do it for a podcast on so let's first introduce
them first. It's a guy whose podcasts I've been on
several times, who I think is the best in the
game as far as Jets focused, Jets specific podcast content creation.
He's the host With'connor Rodgers over at at the bad

(16:06):
Lands podcast Joe Caparoso, Joe, what's up, buddy?

Speaker 4 (16:09):
Thank you for having me. It's been a very fun
year and I wouldn't want to end twenty twenty four
in any other way than talking about our love New
York Jets and what comes next for another rebuild.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Yes, and it's time to spend it forward, my friend.
And with that, I'm talking with someone who's literally live
from Hawaii on a family vacation on his phone. It's
one of my buddies, Danny, who used to tailgate and
lot e. Let's call him Danny from Lottie because I
don't know professionally. He wants his last name out there
after he eviscerates the Jets the way he's about to,

(16:39):
but he gave up his season tickets.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
He's done. Danny, Hello from Hawaii.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
I don't even what time is it right now as
you're recording this, we're one o'clock eastern.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
What time is it there in Hawaii?

Speaker 5 (16:48):
It's eight am out here. I've been here for about
nine days now. Still don't think I've adjusted to Hawaii time. So,
you know, happy to be on nice and early here.
Thanks for having me. You know, started out getting some
shout outs on GMFB. You know, Danny from Tribeca, Danny
from Lottie, you know where the we had the kebab guy.

(17:09):
We're all fired up for our Super Bowl run and
now here we are. You know, regular seasons not even over,
and we're talking about another regime change. So happy to
end the year on that note. And thanks for having.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
Me on first of all, subtle Flex Hawaii and then
even more subtle Flex a nine day Hawaii trip.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Joe. As we're doing.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
This, we're in our home offices with sick kids and
people coughing all over us. But you know what, we're
all in the same place. We all want to see
the Jets get better. We all want to see the
Jets turn the page. Joe set the table for us
as we head into the final week. Where are you
at right now as far as your preferences for coach
and GM and where you'd like to see this organization go.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
I am counting the seconds until this season is over
as I am exhausted of watching this AAU team, which
is basically what they remind me of at this point,
especially with Bret effort level the past couple weeks. I
perfect world, I think the top head coach to get
would be Mike Vrabel. I think a lot of Jet
fans feel that way. I think there's a lot of
hesitance to have a first time head coach because we've

(18:14):
tried that a lot and it has not worked. Vrabel
not perfect, but to an AFC Championship game with Ryan Tannehill,
We'll bring some accountability, little toughness to a team that
I think needs it coming out of this year on
what has been candidly a very unlikable Soft Jets team
that feels like they need someone with Rabel's personality to
a t GM.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
I think it's a little more wide open.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
This is probably unrealistic, but I would love to see
them hire a guy like Demetrov to do analytics and scouting,
rebuild that part of the organization because the Jets are
effectively a shell company they are right now and they
need to build it from scratch and then go hire
a guy like Greenberg from Tampa, who you created a good,
good amount of buzz with when we talked a few
weeks ago, to clean up the books and clean up
the void years and clean up the last Dance Jets,

(18:59):
the Rogers, the Lazare and the Devonte Adams. Have those
three come in together and start turn the pay to
just put a nice church and state wall between the
business part of the Jets and the football part.

Speaker 6 (19:12):
Of the Jets.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Okay, you distinction here, Joe. I don't think Greenberg's leave
in if he's not the GM. Who is the GM
in that scenario? Is it Demetrov or is it Greenberg?

Speaker 6 (19:21):
It's Greenberg.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
I think Demetrov is your VP of football operations and
they are separate roles. Now again, pie the sky to
get both them. Dimitrov might just want to be a GM.
Greenberg of course is going to want to be a GM.
But couldn't you get both of those skill sets together.
This is me as a Jet fan who just wants
to see the full robust front office. And again we're
talking about guys who I think are going to be

(19:42):
top of the line candidates. But for the Jets benefit,
how many GM openings are they're really going to be?
And what I like about the Jets opening is that,
unlike a Jacksonville Chicago, you're not forcing a head coach
onto a GM. It's sort of your starting day one together.
So I do hope, and again this is wishful thinking
Jets that that helps them in their recruiting search. So
that would be my best case scenario. Look, I hope

(20:03):
they taught to Agnew. I hope they talked to Borgonzi.
I hope they cast a wide net. I can't sound
particularly excited that they talked to Ron Rivera, but I
get it. They're doing the diligence. So that That's where
I'm at right now. I'm really rooting for Rabel. If not,
I think Liam Cohen would get a lot of Jet
fans really excited. They want the young offensive mine first
time head coach though, So that's the concern there.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Danny, what do you say?

Speaker 7 (20:23):
I think you've hit it on the head.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
Peter. You know, the last time the Jets were in
a spot like this was you know, I think when
we were one in fifteen other co type and what
Leon has to He said, you know, I've had enough.
I got to I got to bring in somebody that
can change this whole organization around. He went out, he
got the tuna, he let him pick the groceries. Right now,

(20:45):
I'm not saying there's another candidate out there like him.
I think last year there was in Jim Harbaugh. And
look what Jim's done with the Chargers very quickly. But
I agree with Joe and probably the most similar type
guy to that type of a CEO coach who can
come in and really put his stamp on the organization
quickly is Rabel. And I think they also have to

(21:06):
oh and really turn over every stone around the league
and see who could be available via trade as well.

Speaker 7 (21:12):
And I don't know who that guy is.

Speaker 6 (21:14):
You don't know who's.

Speaker 7 (21:15):
Unhappy, you know, with a current GM or ownership.

Speaker 5 (21:18):
But to me, the most obvious choice is probably Vrable,
but there's gonna be a lot of competition for him.

Speaker 7 (21:24):
It seems like he's the top of everyone's list.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
And then for GM, I think you know, whether you're
picking the head coach first or the GM first, the
two guys have to be in sync. So it's Rable.
You got to let him be in on that conversation
and bring in a guy that he can work with,
who has a relationship with We've seen these arranged marriages
starting with Rex and Izick to mccagnan and Bowles, the
Solid and Joe d It just doesn't work right. I mean,

(21:50):
we need guys that are coming in as a team
that are gonna work in sync and turn this thing around.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Okay, So I think Mike Tannebam's role needs to be
analyzed here. So here's how it's gonna work in these meetings.
And you guys probably know this as Jets fans, but
they're gonna likely fly everyone down to Palm Beach, where
Woody Johnson spends his winters. They're gonna sit down in
Palm Beach and it'll be Christopher Johnson, who's the younger brother.
It'll be Heimi Ala who who is the president of

(22:18):
the Jets, and it'll be Mike Tannembaum and maybe Rick
Spielman in there. Tannabaum, who was obviously there ten fifteen
years ago last time I went to the playoffs, but has.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
Been on ESPN the last several years.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
Does this thirty third team for a Cup of Coffee
was serving as an agent to Dan Quinn and Steve Kerr.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
It's an interesting voice in.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Jets fandom because yes, there was great, glorious years of
AFC championships, but there also were some years at the
end there where Jets fans weren't enamored. He's gonna have
a voice now. Is he going to ultimately play a
role moving forward?

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Is that GM who gets hired Curious of what's Tannebaum's
deal here? Is this a one and donner? Am I
gonna have to report to him?

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Joe your thoughts on Tannabaum being so intimately involved in
all of this.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
It's definitely an Now. I would rather have him and
Spielman wang in than just Woody and Chris and whoever
else in the family is now weighing in on decisions.
I think it's good they have former guys who have
done the job, and Tamnebaum did something that's really hard
to do here. He left with a winning record. I
think he was a little over five hundred, which does
not happen for a lot of Jets gms, so not perfect.

(23:26):
You know, he hit the t boat trade and things
got ugly at the end. But I would rather have
him weigh in. I hope it's just a one off, right.
He is working with them for the interview process. When
it's done, it's done, you clearly hand it off to
the new general manager or the new VP of football operations,
and then you get out of the way, and hopefully
they strongly recommend to Woody and ownership and Himei that
look like.

Speaker 6 (23:46):
You trusted us to run this process.

Speaker 4 (23:48):
Let your new GM bring in some recommended changes to analytics,
to scouting, to sports medicine, to how we deal with
the media, to every part of the organization, because every
little thing matters and adds up and they need that
full reset. They I don't blame them for the Rogers
hail mary. They missed on Zach Wilson. They needed to
throw a hail mary. It likely ended when he got
hurt against Buffalo. The timelines didn't add up anymore. This

(24:11):
year was just kind of an ugly et blog. I
didn't think it was going to be this ugly.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
How crazy it ended in the fourth play of his tenure. Yeah, sad.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
It really is sad. And I was in the building
and it was like I couldn't even watch it. I
was starting to watch Enigma a little bit, and I
was just like, I don't want to watch this again.
I don't want to relive this night. I don't want
to relive this. Just want over at this point, which
is shit, because it's not like you just you had
such high expectations, but you just got to blow it
up and start to work again. And I know that's
frustrating for everyone to hear, but you don't want to

(24:39):
row along something that didn't work, and this just didn't work.
They're four and eleven. Three of their wins are against
the mac Jones Jaguars, the Will Levis Titans, and the
Jacobre Presett Patriots. They are up picking in the top
four most likely. So you want to go full refresh
and hopefully that's what's allowed to happen.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
Danny, your thoughts on the Rogers era as a whole.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
Well, I mean the excitement in the parking lot prior
to the you know, the opener of the bills was
like thing. You know, I've seen him coming out with
the flags. I mean, the lights are going off. It
felt like it was a Super Bowl at MetLife. You
know that lasted about ten minutes, you know, going from
that high to that low, and that short of amount

(25:21):
of time was definitely not healthy for you know, the
eighty thousand people that were in attendance. But look, I
think they made the right move, you know, taking that
swing and going for Rogers. And if he didn't get
hurt four plays in, I think it would have been
I think we would have made the playoffs. But you know,
something was obviously off this year. He also had a

(25:42):
forty year old coming off in Achilles and it just
didn't work out.

Speaker 7 (25:46):
So, you know, it's unfortunate. I think it was the
right move, but you know, here we are building from
scratch again.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
Okay, and now, Danny, do you bring him back for
next year? If a coach comes in and says, all right,
there's no other I mean he saw Mike Greenberg, no
relation to Tampa.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Mike Greenberg, the ESPN one who made the point that
I think a lot of.

Speaker 1 (26:06):
People not along with saying you're not you're not getting
Sam Donald back here. You know, the free agent class
is not a lade. The quarterback draft is probably not
going to be a top two pick fall into the Jets.
Are you any worse off with Rogers? But to me,
my response is culturally, you got to just get rid
of them if you want to start new and reset
what you thought.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
Because of the cap situation and the dead money, you
definitely have to look into is there is there a
way to bring them back for one more year and
be a bridge guide to potentially a rookie that you
draft if you can, you know, sit down and get
everyone on the same page. Garrett Wilson top of the list, right,
because if Garrett's not happy, it's not going to work.

(26:45):
And you know, really the way that we saw it
was Devonte was coming in to open things up for Garrett,
not the other way around, So that that relationship has
to be fixed. That's but for the next you know,
head coach and GM, that's top of the list.

Speaker 7 (26:59):
You have to look into it. I wouldn't say you
just release them day to season's over.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
Again because if you if you get rid of him now,
the dead cap is so big.

Speaker 7 (27:11):
So you have to at least look into that situation.
And maybe a Rabel.

Speaker 5 (27:15):
Says, you know what, I'll take Rogers for a year,
I'll draft somebody, let him sit, and I think we can.

Speaker 7 (27:20):
Win ten games running the ball, playing good defense with Rogers.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
What about culturally though, having him in there with the
McAfee once.

Speaker 5 (27:28):
I think, I think that's for the new head coach
and GM to the side if it can right ANSWER's
going on inside the locker room.

Speaker 7 (27:35):
But again, what I see from Garrett Wilson I don't like.

Speaker 5 (27:38):
And I think every Jets fan you know is on
the same page that Garrett Wilson is a key piece
into turning this situation around and he's got.

Speaker 6 (27:47):
To be happy.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Joe, I'm gonna give you guys names. Now forget GM
for a second. I'm gonna pepper you with just names.

Speaker 5 (27:55):
Give me your.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
Thoughts if this is ultimately the head coach of the
New York Jets. Are you feeling good? Are you feeling
like you're settled? Are you feeling like you know this?
This won't be it? The first name I'm I'm going
to give you is the one that you mentioned. Liam Cohen,
who is a University of Massachusett's former quarterback, has been
around coaching ranks, was with the Rams for a while

(28:19):
under McVeigh, and of course was with Kentucky when Will
Levis had his big ears, and then went back to
the NFL and was with Tampa Bay in this great
Baker season. If Liam Cohen, first year head coach, really
green but also considered a really smart offensive mind as
the head coach, how are you feeling in the morning
after that press conference?

Speaker 4 (28:40):
I think I'd be excited. I think you're playing coordinator
roulette a little bit, but that is inevitable when you're
doing these searches. If you're not going to land the
big fish like Vrabel and if you're going to play
coordinator Roulette. I think most Jet fans would be excited
to see that be from the offensive side of the football.
I mean, this is a franchise that has basically only
hired guys from the defensive side of the football outside
of Gase, which I've tried to erase from my memory.

(29:01):
So I think you'd be a generally happy fan base
if they hired him. He seems to be a top
three pick from fans right now, Danny, But Joe, Is.

Speaker 5 (29:10):
Liam Cohen a great play caller or is he a
culture builder? Head coach CEO? That's what I'm great I think,
I think Williams. I think Liam's done a great job
with Baker in the Bucks. You know, they're putting up
a lot of points, and I mean Mike Evans is
having a fantastic season under the radar Bucky Irving.

Speaker 7 (29:29):
But the Jets need more than a play caller, right
We need somebody that can really come in and change
the culture, like with what I've seen Jim Harball do
with the Chargers.

Speaker 5 (29:39):
You know he's not a play caller, right, No, No,
they have they have their guys.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Greg Romans, the play caller in.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
La but those guys don't Those guys don't grow on
trees right now?

Speaker 4 (29:50):
How many? How many guys besides raybo Cat you go
to college?

Speaker 2 (29:57):
What about Pete Carroll?

Speaker 5 (29:59):
I like Pete Carroll?

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Do you seventy three years old?

Speaker 1 (30:02):
I think he was the coach of the Chicks for
the for the Boomerasias and Fake Spike before.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
I like Pete Carroll. I don't think it's the right
fit with the Jets. I think he's the right fit
with a team that has a short window to win now,
not a rebuild, and we're looking for somebody that can
come in right the ship and be here a long term.
So I think Pete Carroll's probably a better fit for
a different team, Joe.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
I think Pete Carroll people would be again excited about
because outside of Rabel, there's not a lot of names
out there who have been former head coaches who have won.
Ed Carroll's obviously won a lot. You worry about the age,
but he's always been a high energy guy, so I
don't worry about quaint as much with him. I just
I feel like I haven't heard a lot of chatter
about that marriage. Maybe he doesn't want to come back here.

(30:47):
He's already been a head coach here. It seems like
maybe that's more of a Bears thing. I certainly wouldn't
hate it, you know, I'd be more excited about that
than some of the other names I've been seeing, like
Arthur Smith or Matt Naggy trying to get a heart
attack for every Jet fan when they see that. So
I don't think you'd see Jet fans angry about a
Pete Carroll because again, he's won, and it's very hard

(31:08):
to find guys who have won. You got to end
a lot of times you end up rolling the dice
on the coordinator of the moment, And can they build
the right stack, can they have the right assistant head coach?
Can they know can cod hire the right defensive coordinator?
Is a guy like Rivera here as an assistant head
coach to help him as a first time or on
the job or something like that. I don't know, but
if it's not veryable, Carol's probably the only other former

(31:30):
head coach out there with that kind of reputation that
would be in the mix.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
I want both your thoughts, Danny, I was doing Good
Morning Football today and Tom Pellasero very suddenly dropped the nugget,
and I don't think it's from Bob Lamont, the agent
who doesn't need to be dropping nuggets. And Bob represents everybody,
but his biggest client for many.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
Years was one John Gruden.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
And now John Gruden's name came up on Good Morning
Football that the Saints offered him the offensive coordinator job.
He said, no, thank you, you went to barstool instead.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
Danny from lot E, If John Gruden is wearing.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
The Jets colors at a press conference on January eighth
as the CEO of the football team, what is your reaction?

Speaker 7 (32:07):
Wouldn't be too excited about that one.

Speaker 5 (32:09):
You know, John was given the keys by the Raiders
really to come in, pick the players, run the team,
and we saw what happened, right, It wasn't a success.
I think he made the playoffs once as a enough Okay,
So yeah, you know, if I was going to go

(32:30):
for a coach like that, honestly, i'd take Rex over
John Rudin. But I'm excited about that either.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
All Right, Rex thoughts Joe.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
It's honestly, it's it's mind blowing to me that this
is actually like a real conversation.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
It seems to be.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
It seems like he's going to get intoview.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
He will get an interview.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
I mean, this guy is not been a head coach
in a decade. Now, Listen, what every Jet fan loves
about Rex is that Rex has a genuine passion for
being a Jet thank you for the organization, which outside
of fans it's few far between out there. Now Does
that mean he has any idea how to coach a
winning team at twenty twenty four? Who is his offensive coordinator?
Is he re High the old band from twenty ten?

(33:08):
I don't know, but man, I do if he gets
an interview, and like Rabel's already somewhere else, I do
kind of worry about the ground smell of being like
about it just time. And I also feel like if
you're not bringing Rogers back, like there's a Rex in
Rogers like one two year like bridge thing I could
maybe talk myself into, because I don't have a choice
because I'm a Jets fan. Beyond mat Man, that is

(33:31):
like potential for a complete disaster, and I don't want
to ruin by what was good Rex memories. Although it
didn't angreat, it just feels like crazy to me. I
don't think they can do it.

Speaker 5 (33:40):
I agree with you, Joe, but I would interview Rex
and I would hear what he has to say, because look,
he's been on ESPN, He's seen what's going on in
the league, and he knows football, and he can shoot
it to Wood's straight and tell him really what's going
on here, what the problems are here, and what needs
to change. And I think that would just be a
good conversation, you know, for what he to have. I'm
not banging a table for Rex to be the coach,

(34:01):
and I don't think a lot of Jets fans would
be happy for that. I'm just saying when it comes
to hiring an old coach that hasn't had success in
a while, and we're bringing up Gruden, you know, I
don't think either of these guys are the right fit
right now.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
One thing I would say with Rex, and I wish
I could. Maybe I will reach out to him. I've
talked to him before. It's like you can't come in
there and be like my son is going to be
offensive coordinator, my brother's defensive coordinator, and Dennis Thurmond is
going to be, you know, in the in the defensive room,
like those guys can all have jobs, and I understand,
but like you kind of need to pair Rex with
one of these hot offensive coordinators to kind of satisfy
the fan base, right.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
Yes, definitely, because that was always a concern with Rex
about was he just focused on the defense and it
worked for a little bit with Shoddy, But you need
a new offensive mine if you're going to go that route,
and you have to have a real.

Speaker 6 (34:45):
Forward thinking plan.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
And look, I mean, he's probably one of the five
or six most likely people to get the job, which
again feels inconceivable, but everything around this franchise feels inconceivable
at times.

Speaker 6 (34:56):
So I think he's gonna get an interview and be
in the mix.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
Okay, I got a few more names that will wrap this.
I actually love this exercise. It's good to get it
all out there, all right, Danny, I'll start with you
on this one coach with New York Ties, the pride
of Polly Prep in Brooklyn, and a guy who absolutely
despises the Miami Dolphins and a guy who also has
a legal bout going on with the NFL, Brian flores

(35:19):
Man a very few words, would he do anything for
you as far as moved the needle as a new
head coach of the New York Jets.

Speaker 5 (35:26):
I would definitely say Flores is in the top five
on my interview list. He's a hard nosed, no nonsense,
you know, really strong defensive coach. He's done a great
job with the Vikings. I think he's also a culture builder.
But with him as well, you know who's he bringing
his offensive coordinator because he's not bringing Kevin O'Connell with them, right,

(35:47):
so you know that's going to be the key piece
with Flores is who's running the offense. But Brooklyn guy,
you know AFC East experience, did a decent job with
the Dolphins.

Speaker 7 (35:59):
He you know, they made the playoffs with they.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
They didn't they didn't make the playoffs. They made it
with Gase, they didn't make it with and they just
missed out. Okay, But obviously going back in it, like
just for Floras and I'm not speaking on behalf of Brian,
but like he and Tua obviously had an issue and
he and Chris Career, so there was friction there, which
is never a good thing for your head coach.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
They weren't on the same page. But he was not
a to a.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
Guy from all tents from all the accounts afterwards, and
whether or not he's right or not is you know,
the jury's out on that.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
But like he would have gone with FITZI I think
over Tua, he's.

Speaker 5 (36:32):
Got to come with a GM that he has a
relationship with, that he can work with. But he's definitely
a guy the jet should be talking to.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
Okay, Joe, what do you think of Flora's I like
Flora's a lot as a candidate.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
I think he should be in the top like three ish.
I think from an energy and an attitude and a
toughness standpoint, they badly need that, especially on the defensive
side of the football. They are just so soft and
it's crazy watching a unit that was so good quickly
gets so bad. Who's the offensive coordinator? You know, I'll
get you high in the sky. Could he bring Josh
McCown this is offensive coordinator? About that?

Speaker 5 (37:04):
Ye?

Speaker 4 (37:04):
Could you include a trade for jj McCarthy in that
since the Vikings are going to roll with the now
you know, now we're piecing it all together to ride
the coattails of the Vikings. Like you gotta think a
little outside the box in a vacuum. I think Flora
is a strong candidate, and I think if they don't
get Rabel, I think you t hear a lot of
Jet fans being like, all right, I prefer him. I
prefer Cone, and you know, maybe we could get Carol.

(37:26):
But I hear Flora's his name come up a lot,
and I think he hates the Dolphins.

Speaker 6 (37:30):
I think he might not have been wrong about Tua.

Speaker 4 (37:31):
I think Jet fans will like that he's familiar with
the division, and you know, he won a decent amount
of games in a really hard situation.

Speaker 6 (37:38):
So I don't mind him as a candidate at all.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
Okay, some wild card names that I'm going to put
out there, Mike McCarthy if it doesn't work out in Dallas,
if he's a if he's either fired or he's like,
I want to entertain other options because my contracts expired, Joe,
would you be interested in meeting with Mike McCarthy as
the next head coach of the New York Jets.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
It doesn't get me particularly excited. I think doesn't hurt
to meet with him. He's a guy who's had a
lot of success. Obviously there'll be a lot of well
Rodgers is going to come back now? I don't know
where the relationship sits at the moment. I'm assuming it's
pretty positive based on the latest documentaries, but I don't know.
It kind of feels like maybe the time has passed
him by, and I'm not particularly excited about it. Reasonable
from an interview perspective, but if they're end up hiring him,

(38:19):
I feel like there's not.

Speaker 6 (38:19):
Going to be parades in the streets of forum talk
about it.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Danny, Mike McCarthy, what's your reaction.

Speaker 7 (38:25):
With the talent he's had.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
I think he's underachieved, hasn't shown up in a lot
of big games. I think having Aaron Rodgers for all
those years probably should have more than one ring. And
you know, been a disappointment with the Cowboys as well.
Seems like they win a lot of games and then
when it comes to, you know, crunch time in the playoffs,
they underperform. So I'm going to pass on Mike all right.

Speaker 1 (38:49):
Joe Cliff Kingsbury, former head coach, having a lot of
success with Jayden Daniels.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
We haven't mentioned his name yet.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
I think that'd be an interesting one. I know he's
been through the cycle and interviewed here before. Again, I
think people will be excited about an offensive mind. There's
always been some questions there that he kind of flame
out down the stretch. But was that more of a
Cardinals thing, Kyler thing than a him thing. I mean,
not at the top of the list, but someone I
think worth talking to, and you know he's going to
bring it innovative offense and with depending on who the

(39:14):
quarterback is and how you're designing an offense around him.
It's an interesting enough name. I'm curious if he would
go through the interview process again with the Jets, kind
of like a lot of Jet fans are excited about Munkin.
But is Monken gonna go do the whole song and
dance again after twenty nineteen.

Speaker 6 (39:28):
I'm not sure, And I wonder if Kingsbury is in
the same boat.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Danny, what do you think Kingsbury has a name?

Speaker 5 (39:34):
I like Cliff a lot. I think he's a great
offensive mine, great play caller. He's done a masterful job
of Gayden Daniels. I think we all see that. My
concern with Cliff and it's just just not knowing the guy.

Speaker 6 (39:46):
Right.

Speaker 5 (39:47):
Can he come in and be a CEO and change
the culture. If the answer to that is yes. Look,
he obviously can get the offense turned around, and he
can work with the rookie quarterback, and there's not many
guys out there that can coach the quarterback these days.

Speaker 7 (40:03):
So you know, Cliff's definitely in the top tier.

Speaker 5 (40:07):
Definitely want to talk to him, and I think with
his personality, he'd be a good fit for New York
as well.

Speaker 1 (40:12):
Morning after Joe, The answer is Cliff Kingsbury Morning After.
The reaction by the New York Jets fan base that
you deal with is eh, is all right, It's kind
of it's kind of like I think.

Speaker 4 (40:23):
I think it's like cautious optimists think he's like, all right,
let's be open minded. We'll look at everything he just
did with Daniels like. He's got the fun personality. I
think that could fit well handled the right way. How's
he building the rest of his staff? Again, I think
Jet fans, from what I've seen, if you trot out
a Matt Maggie, you trot out in Arthur Smith, you
trot out to Rivera. That's why I've seen Jet fans

(40:44):
of a very visceral, angry reaction. I don't think you
get that with Kingsbury. I think people will be open
minded about it.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
A couple more start with you, Joe Aaron Glenn, former
Jets legend parcels Era has really paid his dues, but
that defense has been torched this year despite injury.

Speaker 4 (40:59):
I mean, I like Glenn. He's gotten less popular in
the past month, which maybe isn't fair at him because
he's playing with a bunch of practice squad guys on
defense right now. I like that he's coming from such
a strong culture. He's learned under Dan Campbell. It's nice
that he's played here and was like a successful, like
overachieving guy. How much that translates to being a coach,
I don't know, but people will be very open minded

(41:19):
to giving him a chance because again, he's another guy
I think that will identify well with the organization. And
let's see how the defense looks to the playoffs. Can
they If the Lions go in Super Bowl or get
to the Super Bowl and the defense overachieves, I think
people will start talking themselves back into him. Who's the
offensive coordinator, of course, will be a key question. I
think he'll definitely get an interview, and I think it's

(41:40):
either the Saints or the Jets.

Speaker 6 (41:42):
Wherever he ends up being a head coach, Danny.

Speaker 5 (41:46):
It just feels too similar to Salah Right, I got it,
you know, legit defensive coordinator on a winning team. Look,
they've done an amazing job changing the culture with the Lions,
and I think, you know, Glenn has a front row
seat to you know, what Dan Campbell has done, and
I'm sure.

Speaker 7 (42:03):
He's been played a big part in it as well.

Speaker 5 (42:05):
But it just feels too similar to Saul hiring the
hot defensive coordinator. I know he has, you know, the
history with the Jets, and I always liked Aaron Glenn,
but in the position that we're in, I think we
just need something a little different.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
All Right, The next three names I'm just going to
throw together, and you guys tell me if any of
them do anything for you. Joe Brady, Okay, Helen Moore
and Wes Phillips, who is helping Kevin O'Connell with the
Vikings offense. Do any of those three names, and he's
also Wade Phillips's kid, Do any of those three names

(42:38):
do anything for you, guys.

Speaker 4 (42:40):
Brady's kind of interesting. He's a guy I think the
Jets have spent some time looking at He's familiar with
the division. I think he's done really good work in Buffalo,
kind of like the He's got an interesting background. I
think he's a name that came up a decent amount,
especially compared to the other two you mentioned, and have
not really heard kicked around anywhere near as much.

Speaker 6 (42:57):
And that doesn't mean they're.

Speaker 4 (42:58):
Not going to get hired, because I don't think people
expected Gas to get hired when he got hired, you know,
so on and so forth. I think Brady of those three,
to me, is the most interesting.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
Danny, Kellen Moore, West Phillips, Joe Brady.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
I just put them all in because the three offensive
guys on three teams that are going to the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (43:14):
I agree with Joe. Joe Brady is the top of
that list for me. You know, a few years back,
if you guys remember, he was, you know, hot, at
the top of at the top of you know, everybody,
the interview.

Speaker 1 (43:25):
For the Carolina job, I think when he was twenty
nine years old. Any names that I have not mentioned
that intrigue you. I'm going to throw out a name
who's running the defensive backfield in Denver that I have
not gotten any traction with that I've mentioned a few
places Jim Leonard, the Old Jet is with Patrick Sartan
and with those guys, you want to talk about a cultural,
cultural guy. I remember when he's a player, and then

(43:46):
you hear about the Wisconsin years, and then I know
from Sean Payton that in Denver, like he's a real
voice there. That's my name as an absolute wild card
outside the box, like thought, Jim Leonard to come in
and you got your your bridge to the rex Era
and your bridge to the Jets, But you also have
a young coach that hasn't been talked about at all.
Is there any other names that you guys would like
to see at least interviewed that as fans and as

(44:09):
people who follow it kind of.

Speaker 2 (44:10):
Move your need a little bit.

Speaker 4 (44:12):
Leonard has some big fans in the bad Lands staff.
I will say that would be right outside the box.
I think the name recognition certainly wouldn't hurt him. Questions again,
who's calling the plays? Is he ready for that kind
of role? Do you leap frog and give him McCown
directly an interview as a head coach and skip and
say you know what, he was maybe gonna get interviewed
as a head coach a few years ago for Houston,
and we're gonna just jump right ahead and we're gonna

(44:33):
assume he learned enough from O'Connell and could be that
guy for us. I know he's beloved by the Jets organization.
So those are two other guys with former Jet ties
that I think are interesting. It doesn't feel like there's
any like names at the college level that anyone is
talking about anymore.

Speaker 2 (44:47):
Matt Campbell's name, like it's almost the window pass now.

Speaker 4 (44:51):
Yeah, we spent a lot of time talking about Matt Campbell,
but I feel like that windows kind of passed now,
and it's just there's not like that college head coach
that since they didn't get it on.

Speaker 6 (45:00):
Hardball, that they're going to go after it all.

Speaker 4 (45:02):
So Leonard and McCown a little more deeper cuts, but
would be interesting.

Speaker 5 (45:07):
Danny, I'll throw one out there, Joe, what about Kirby Smart?
And look, I think that's one percent chance of him
even taking the.

Speaker 4 (45:17):
Nay, why not create some buzz I like it?

Speaker 5 (45:20):
Why not make the call. I mean, if there's one
guy in college that I think could do it at
the NFL level, it's him.

Speaker 1 (45:25):
I think that's a good way to wrap this because
my advice to any any team that's in a situation
like the Jets, and I think the Bears and the
Saints are, it doesn't hurt to try to at least
meet with these guys, and if they say no, there's
no harm done.

Speaker 2 (45:40):
The fans do not spite you for that.

Speaker 1 (45:41):
But like if Adam Schefter tweeted out that the Jets
have requested an opportunity to meet with Kirby Smart and
Kirby Smart declined it and is going back to Georgia.

Speaker 2 (45:49):
I don't think a single Jets fan.

Speaker 1 (45:51):
Would be like, oh, what the hell are they doing
talking to Kirby Smart.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
I actually liked that idea.

Speaker 1 (45:55):
And I had the news that the Bears were sniffing
around on Marcus Freeman.

Speaker 2 (45:59):
I know that because it's true and Freeman got an extension.

Speaker 5 (46:02):
Of Notre Dame.

Speaker 1 (46:02):
Not because I'm my report, but he's a good coach
at Notre Dame. But it didn't hurt the Bears to
have that out there. I think it actually was like, okay, cool,
we're looking for something.

Speaker 4 (46:12):
I mean, look, Jet fans, I don't see any world
they would complain about that. They want the organization to
cast a wide net, to think outside the box, to
try any and everything to fix this damn thing. And
if what he's willing to throw around the kind of
money that it would take to get him to leave,
I don't think you'd see people complain about it. It certainly again,
it's better than hiring some of the lower tier names.

(46:32):
I would argue that we discussed where that would generate
some buzz, and not in a bad way that you're
rolling the dice, but all these guys really, probably outside
of Rabel, you're rolling the dice to a pretty big extent.
It's just you got to hope for the best and
hope it finally clicks together with the head coach of
the GM.

Speaker 2 (46:48):
Okay, I'm gonna wrap with this.

Speaker 4 (46:49):
Danny.

Speaker 2 (46:50):
You are a long time season ticket holder with your family.
You walked away this year.

Speaker 1 (46:55):
Your message to the Jets fans and the Jets organization
as to why you finally said enough is enough.

Speaker 5 (47:02):
Look, I haven't felt this way since one in fifteen,
So I'm just hoping that what he feels the same way.
He's had enough, he's ready to swing big, bring in
somebody that he's going to hand the keys to and say,
let look, let me, let me stay out of the way,
let the football guys do their thing, and bring you know,
respectability back to the Jets. I'm hoping that's what can happen.

(47:23):
You know, there's been a lot of bad you know
press out there, articles about you know, teenagers running the show,
Madden ratings and a lot of other nonsense, and hopefully
this is a big wake up call and gets them
to kind of rally around and say, you know, let's
make the right hires here and you know, get on
the road to respectability.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
Joe, I wrap with you as one of the leading
content creators with one of the number one podcasts on
the Jets. Your message if say Jets ownership or Jets
presidenter Jet's leadership is listening to this podcast over the
New Year's weekend.

Speaker 6 (47:59):
Man like you got hearts and minds to win.

Speaker 4 (48:01):
This is as down as I've seen the fan base
ever viscerally angry across the board. So you better be
very proactive with your communications about how robust this search
is going to be. You better be very proactive talking
about structural changes that are going to happen to the
organization that you're going to be a forward thinking org.
You're going to staff up the front office. You're going

(48:22):
to staff up analytics, You're going to staff up scouting.
We are going to do this right and build it
the right way. We are going to squash any questions
or debates that were not apologize for how these last
few years ago. Recognize that it's the longest drought in
American professional sports which exist, that insane fourteen years. And

(48:43):
let's get this new regime to have a mandate sooner
rather than later to make the damn playoffs. And Joe
Douglas and Robert Hollow were given a lot of time.
They were given four years and six years, respectively. This
fan base, more than any other fan base in any
major sport, just needs a playoff appearance to get that
monkey off their back and move forward from there. So

(49:03):
let's have a little urgency. Let's not be raising the
ticket price in the middle of the season at the
worst possible time, and let's play some offense from a
pr perspective instead of being reactive. And fans will be there.
We'll always show up. We'll just be watching, even if
we don't have season tickets. I don't have season tickets
anymore either. But you know, I'll be watching that Miami
game at four twenty five on Sunday seeing if we're

(49:24):
gonna be picking third or ninth or whatever the hell
is gonna happen. But man, this is as Matt as
I've seen the fan base ever. And I get it.

Speaker 5 (49:31):
Joe.

Speaker 1 (49:31):
I think you have a similar I think you have
a similar brain as I do as far as memories
of games are. I was listening to the podcast that
you guys do, and you're like, you had your I
guess your first your first child or your second child.

Speaker 2 (49:42):
You're like, I.

Speaker 1 (49:43):
Remember the game that was an hour later and it
was what was that game?

Speaker 2 (49:46):
And I cause I think we've all been there where.

Speaker 1 (49:48):
It's like, that's how you kind of these life memories, Yes,
apt in football memories.

Speaker 4 (49:51):
The first the first hour my kid's life is watching
Darnold against the Dolphins throw a touchdown to Balal Pound. Now,
unfortunately they lost that game and now he's a Jets
fan already. My wife is furious about it, but they
stuck and he's gonna have to deal with it for
the rest of his life. And I was trying to
explain to him because he's well do you want them
to win today when we're watching the Buffalo game, Like,
I'm not gonna be mad if they win, but I'm
also not gonna be mad if they lose because we
need a better draft pick, and no six year old

(50:13):
should have to wrap their head. I just want to
win games and go to playoff games. Danny.

Speaker 1 (50:17):
You you've got two beautiful daughters that are under the
age of eight, Like they're they're they're born into this.

Speaker 7 (50:22):
Right, this is why God gave me two daughters.

Speaker 5 (50:25):
So you know, I can't put a son through the
pain that I've been through that.

Speaker 7 (50:29):
A lot of my friends are putting their kids through.

Speaker 5 (50:34):
You know, nobody should have to go through it like this.

Speaker 4 (50:40):
Is like a grieving paraphy.

Speaker 5 (50:42):
Look, you talk about memories and stuff like that. I mean,
I remember banging the table for Ed Reid and you
know tag Leabou I think it was at that time,
going up to the podium and you know, saying the
Jets have selected Brian Thomas, and you know how furious
I was.

Speaker 7 (50:58):
So the stories are endless.

Speaker 5 (51:01):
You know, there's been a lot of disappointment, and you
know it's time to time to finally get this right
and build a long term winning organizations.

Speaker 1 (51:12):
You guys are the best. I so appreciate you doing this.
Look it's December, like twenty twenty four. We're gonna turn
the page. Twenty twenty five is the new year.

Speaker 2 (51:19):
As you guys know, I went on.

Speaker 1 (51:21):
National television and said that the Jets are gonna be
the one seed in the AFC and Rogers's.

Speaker 2 (51:25):
Gonna be the MVP. I have done a lot of
great things, a lot of butter things.

Speaker 1 (51:28):
I never have even in a million years, imagine the
amount of I would take. I can't walk down the
street in New York without someone saying nice Jets pick
so like, I'm in it.

Speaker 2 (51:37):
With you, guys, I really am this year. I'm with you.

Speaker 4 (51:40):
We need this season to be over it. It's time.
I am ready. Not that we're not always ready for
the off season, but I am really ready for the
off season to hit. And it's got to end.

Speaker 6 (51:49):
At some point.

Speaker 4 (51:50):
The playoff dround has to end at some point. I
look at Buffalo, I look at Detroit. They were a
mess for a very very long time, and I hold
on to that has some hope in the future. NIXT
to next for a disaster for a while and We're
good now, so.

Speaker 2 (52:02):
Let's see Danny closing statements and then we'll get out
of here.

Speaker 5 (52:06):
Show you brought the next look what they did, right,
you know, they brought in somebody with a lot of
experience and knowledge to run the organization and we see
the results. So Woody, Christopher hie me, you know, look
to them as a case study and you know, let's
do the same.

Speaker 1 (52:21):
Guys, Happy New Years. I appreciate both of you. Joe Caparosa,
you can find them on the bad Lands podcast.

Speaker 2 (52:27):
Very good listen.

Speaker 1 (52:28):
Not just Jets focused, all football focused, but they really
they got the heart of the Jets fan.

Speaker 2 (52:33):
And Danny, do you want to promote anything?

Speaker 1 (52:35):
I know you don't have a blog or a podcast,
but you could. You could promote our text chain. You
can promote our our weekly padel games.

Speaker 2 (52:42):
Whatever you want.

Speaker 5 (52:43):
Yeah, paddle House, Dumbo shout out. You know it's our
weekly spot. You know. I'm sure you guys have heard
a lot about paddle from Peter. You know, great sport.
And uh, we'll see you in the new year.

Speaker 2 (52:55):
In there, all right, boys, thank you?

Speaker 4 (53:02):
All right.

Speaker 2 (53:03):
I love those two guys.

Speaker 1 (53:05):
They didn't know each other are going in but I
thought that's a really good like brainstorming session.

Speaker 2 (53:10):
And I don't know, maybe you don't care about the
Jet's coaching job.

Speaker 1 (53:12):
I think it's a huge, huge story over the next
few weeks because it determines Rogers's future and also a
lot of dominoes will fall. But I have no idea
who that job is going to, but good luck to
whoever it does, and that includes the general manager role.

Speaker 5 (53:27):
The season with.

Speaker 1 (53:28):
Peter Schrager is presented by delivering Results, which is presented
by uber eats. And it's time for us to give
the award for the delivering results, which is presented by
uber Eats, and it goes to a player who really
was outstanding over the weekend, and that's Jaden Daniels, the
rookie from Washington. I could have done a whole podcast
on what the Commanders have done. They just won their

(53:48):
eleventh game for the first time since nineteen ninety one.
Jaden Daniels had five touchdowns on Sunday. Jaden Daniels had,
of course the one hundred and I think sixty seven
rushing yards on Sunday. The guys putting up huge numbers
as a rookie and he's doing it for a friend.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
That has never needed it more.

Speaker 1 (54:08):
If Jets fans listen to that whole podcast and A're wondering,
how in the world do we get out of this rut?
Getting at Jaden Daniels helps and Jaden was outstanding. That
was delivering results presented by Uber Ees, where you can
get the best deals on game day food all season long,
the official on demand delivery partner of the NFL.

Speaker 5 (54:24):
Order.

Speaker 1 (54:24):
Now, I want to thank all of you for listening
all this season. It's been a great one. Aaron wan
Kaufman amazing producer and great friend and co host when
needed popping in. He's behind the mic today or he's
behind the scenes today, but I always appreciate Aaron's work.

Speaker 2 (54:39):
Jason English, who.

Speaker 1 (54:40):
I think is as good of an executive at any
of these media companies. He's out of iHeart and shows
his face. He's present and he's always aware of what's
going on. And thank you to the NFL for the
opportunity to this podcast with them. We have a playoffs,
we have a super Bowl, and then we'll see from
there as we head.

Speaker 2 (54:55):
Into draft time. But the next few weeks.

Speaker 1 (54:57):
I know what you're listening for. You want coaching gossip.
You want news around the league, We'll try to give
you the best of it. Thanks for listening, everybody. Enjoy
your New Year's and Happy New Years if you turn
this on on Thursday or.

Speaker 2 (55:07):
Over the weekend.
