Rita Levi-Montalcini nació el 22 de abril de 1909 en Turín, Italia, en unos tiempos en los que ser mujer y científica parecía un binomio imposible. Sin embargo, a pesar de todos los impedimentos, Rita demostró que esos prejuicios no estaban hechos para ella y logró doctorarse en Neurocirugía. Aquel doctorado fue sólo el comienzo de una imparable carrera que le proporcionó el Nobel de Medicina en 1986 y continuó sin descanso hasta su muerte a los 103 años de edad.
