Paracelso nació en Einsiedeln, Suiza, en 1493, un año después del descubrimiento de América por Colón. Fue contemporáneo de Copérnico, Lutero, Leonardo da Vinci y toda una cohorte de mentes que propiciaron el salto desde la Edad Media hasta el Mundo moderno. Cuentan las crónicas de la época que, en vida, le llamaron el “Lutero de la medicina” y en los debates científicos del siglo XVI frecuentemente se ponía más énfasis en las innovaciones de Paracelso que en el sistema astronómico de Copérnico.
