Los acontecimientos que rodean a Carolina Rogers son preocupantes, su novio, el abogado Frank Michel le había dicho al inspector Hawkins que si Carol entrega el dinero al chantajista, correrá un grave peligro.
El inspector calma a Frank pero porque sospecha que el asaltante pudiera ser el propio novio de Carol: Frank Michel. Carol acude a la cita sin Frank y prometiéndole que irá después de que todo haya pasado. El inspector Hawkins está situado a unos metros de distancia y controlando todo un dispositivo alrededor del coche de Carol Rogers por si pudiera ocurrir cualquier imprevisto. Un hombre con un largo abrigo se acerca lentamente al coche de la señorita Rogers.
Una misteriosa voz suena por el interfono de Carol, es el chantajista, que le da nuevas indicaciones: hay una persona esperándola un poco más lejos a la que deberá entregar el dinero, sin hablar.
