Continuamos con el sorprendente caso del señor Arcularis en cuya rodilla crecía y vivía una tortuga. El señor Arcularis no sabe cuánto tiempo ha estado sin conocimiento y en cuanto se despierta decide que debe acudir a un monasterio. Los dolores aumentaban por el esfuerzo de la caminata de tres días. Luigi se sentía desfallecer y que no llegaría al monasterio, prefería morir en las montañas que seguir avanzando. La tortuga continuaba creciendo el interior de su rótula.
En el monasterio, en el reflejo del agua de la fuente, una tortuga le mira fijamente. El monje examina la rodilla del médico, parece que la tortuga tiene pocas semanas de vida y aún es ciega. Pero en cuanto abra los ojos, Arcularis morirá. El monje debe impedir que esto pase.
