Vértigo (de entre los muertos), es un thriller que saltó a la fama gracias a James Stewart y al rey de los miedos psicológicos: Alfred Hitchock. Está basado en la novela Sueurs froides: d'entre les morts (Sudores fríos, de entre los muertos) de Pierre Boileau y Thomas Narcejac. En ella, se habla del amor desde la psicología y la estrecha relación que mantiene con el miedo.
Su protagonista, el detective de policía Scottie Ferguson tiene miedo a las alturas y sufre de vértigo por lo que se ve obligado a abandonar su trabajo. Un día queda con un amigo del colegio Gavin Elster, tiene una petición que hacerle: que vigile a su mujer Madeleine pues parece estar hipnotizada, melancólica... Scottie, en cuanto la ve, se enamora completamente de ella y acepta el trabajo. La sigue y la observa a cada movimiento que hace. Parece que Madeleine sigue y copia todo lo que hace Carlota Valdés, una mujer muerta hace años...
La obsesión de Scottie por Madeleine se hace cada vez mayor... y la historia ser irá complicando cada vez más.
