I'm Scott Klanski alongside Bill Harmon and what a treat
(00:23):
for myself and for our listeners and viewers. As Balaal
Nichols of the Arizona Cardinals, but most importantly former Delaware
Blue Hen Yes there, joins the broadcast. First off, thank
you so much for being here. I know you're part
of the three h two collective initiative that's going on
tonight at the Court Signed Club, and it's so great
for you to come back to Delaware and be amongst
(00:45):
Blue Hens fans. Before we get into anything.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
How are you doing. I know you're recovering.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
You were out for the season in October, so we
want to get updatea on your health.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Oh yeah, I'm doing fine, you know, taking each day
step by step, working to get back on the field
as quickly as possible.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Because you've been so healthy, and we'll call the action
a little bit and talk to you throughout the game.
Is Townsend leads at seven to six, thanks to that man,
Dylan Williams said, who misses on a three? You've been
relatively healthy throughout your career, one hundred games played in
seven seasons. So we'll be excited to see it get
back into action next year. But thank you from Blue
(01:19):
Hen's Nation and from ourselves and from everybody that loves
the Delaware football. A major gift donation was made from
you back in October. Why was it so important for
you to give back?
Speaker 2 (01:31):
You know, this is where I started at.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
You know, the University of Delaware was the first school
that gave me opportunity when nobody else gave me opportunity.
You know, they've seen something to me when I wasn't
necessarily sure what they've seen in me at the time.
You know, I ain't see it in myself, so you
know they took a chance on me. And now that
you know years later, now that you know, God has
blessed me to be in a position i am. You know,
I'm fortunate enough to be able to get back in
(01:54):
and help out these kids. That's here now in the
future kids to give them a better opportunity that I
had to be able to to chase their dreams and
accomplish whatever it is they want the accomplish.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
But it's so great that you've been able to be
in a position to give back. There's a couple of
free throws good from Eric Timpco. Della leads at eight
to seven fifteen twenty two left to go in the
first half. We're talking about the three to ZHO two collective.
A lot of football guys here today. I think you
missed out on all this collective stuff. You made up
for it though with your NFL deals. What are your
thoughts on Della are moving up to a conference USA
(02:26):
and FBS.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Oh, I love it. Yeah, I'm excited for the players.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
I'm excited because they get an opportunity to really showcase
their abilities and you know, really get an opportunity to
be playing bigger games with more spotlight.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
And you know, I think that they deserve to. This
is a fine institution.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
The coaches, the STAF Chrissy do such a great job
of just you know, putting us in position to be successful.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
And you know, this is another situation where they're doing
the same thing.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
And we're talking with Ballal Nichols the NFL Arizona Cardinals.
You talk about being in a position to highlight yourselves.
That's a Marcus Yarn just doing right now. Running back
for Delaware, playing in the Senior Bowl. You played in
the twenty eighteen Senior Bowl. Josh Allen was the quarterback
of the team. Yeah, you played for What can it
do for someone's stock? Being able to go down there
and play in that Senior Bowl?
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Oh, man, Ni could boost your stock tremendously.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
I remember at the time when I was coming out
of Delaware and I played in the Senior Bowl game,
I was predicted to be an undrafted free agent, and
right after the game and in the combine, I was
able to turn things around and be projected anywhere between
the rounds three and five. So it kind of all
worked out. It could be a huge boost for him.
But Marcus is tearing it up. Keep doing your ding, brother,
(03:35):
and you know, keep on grinding and showing them what
you can do.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
He's doing so well. Nine to eight is to score
Townsend on top thirteen fifty left to play in the
first half. We're talking with Ballal Nichols. You've had so
much success in the NFL. Maybe none better at least
in my household. Then the nickmus MVP Award you received,
my little man was watching on Christmas and what an
(03:59):
experience that was. You played so well in that game.
Did you get to slim your family?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
I did so. I slimed my and my daughter. I
got both of them.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
So that was That was the highlight of the day,
on top of you know, having a great Christmas Day
off with a win in.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Kse at that that was awesome.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Well, you mentioned your family, your daughter and I or
your wife Alaysia. What is it like to be able
to have that support of that family and be a
family man and have them be a part of your
great success.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Oh, it's awesome because you know, I can't do it
without Domb you know, Alasier plays vital rules behind the scenes,
you know, taking care of things.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
That a lot of people don't see, so I can
go out.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
There and play to the best that I can on
the court, you know, And it's just it's just things
like that. It's it's a whole team effort, you know
when it comes to me, and I couldn't be I
couldn't be where I am.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Today without the helps of her.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
And the University of Delaware, my coaches, my you know
the stat you know, all the people made me who
I am today.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
And who you are is just a fantastic NFL player,
a family man, a father, a Delawarean, a double dell
because not only are you a graduate of University of Delaware,
but you're from the state and you went to hans
and I remember covering your basketball games. Here we are
right here at the Bob Carpenter Center where you were
(05:17):
a dominant I don't know how people know that you
were a dominant basketball player as well as we watch
our hands down by a point with the basketball. But
you mentioned the Kansasity Chiefs and gonna win over them.
What are your thoughts are on the Super Bowl? Your
first head coach, Matt Naggy is a part of the
Kansas City Chiefs staff. You're you're from the local area,
so Philadelphia's well, he didn't play either team this year.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
What are your thoughts on the Super Bowl? Uh?
Speaker 3 (05:40):
You know, you know I'm gonna be rooting for you know,
my fellow blue Blue hand alone. You know Matt Naggy,
you know he drafted me and gave me an opportunity.
So you know, I'm always for Kludon n Aggie. So
you know, I think I think they're gonna get the
job done man and make history.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
And then as we get close to your time, and
thank you so much. I know you're a busy man.
A lot of people want to talk to you. You
hear the or the Eric Timco just knocked down to
three Gay Delaware the lead thirteen to eleven. How much
does it mean to you to be able to we
talk about you giving back, but to walk into this
building and to have everyone cheer for you and just
be able to share it in your success and see
(06:14):
this program grow and know that you are a big
part of it.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Oh man, it means everything to me.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
And that's why this will always be home and whatever
I can do to provide the next generation with resources,
I'm always do it because the love that I feel
here is unmatched, just like no other. And that's why
you know I love coming back here and I'm going
to always come back here.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Well, we are glad that you are here, Bowall Nichols.
I know that there are a sea of people that they.
Speaker 2 (06:40):

give us some of your time and just thank you
so much for everything that you were doing and how
you are representing the state of Delaware, the University of Delaware, and.

For you to give back the way that you do.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
