Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're gonna be joined now by our head coach, Martin
Inglesby as Martin joins us this interview presented by ACME
A coach A disappointing second half of basketball. You guys
were doing so many things right on the offensive end.
You scored ninety one points. Typically it's enough to win,
but just not there on the defensive side of things,
ninety six to ninety one. What went wrong in the
(00:20):
second half of defensive.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Yeah, I think turnovers heard us a lot of team
that was, you know, getting out in transition to get
confident and just you scored ninety one points on your
whole floor.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
You got to be able to win the game. And
they scored fifty eight points.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
I thought their physicality around the basket to drive some
timely threes, but they shot seventy four percent in the
second half, and that's not good enough. I don't care
who you're playing, it's not good enough. Defensively, we got
in foul trouble put us in a tough spot there.
But that was a team that, you know, I thought
we were pretty good defensively and physical in the first half,
but then you let them get confident, and you know,
(00:53):
they just got rolling.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
You talk, Oh sorry, I apologiza, you talk about the
foul trouble and Isaiah Pasha, I said on the broadcast,
Hey market down and see how Delaware responds. Fifteen forty
two left to go in the ballgame. Pasha pushed off,
got his fourth foul in the ball game. He was
playing maybe his best game of the season up to
that point. He was distributing, he was scoring, he was
doing it at all. How difficult did it become for
your team without Pasha out there, and then without Trent
(01:17):
Middleton on the bench to shot a sub in as well.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Yeah, extremely difficult.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
You know, Trent was out with the flu, wasn't feeling
well after pregame meal, so he wasn't even here. And
then it puts some guys in different spots, were a
little uncomfortable out there against the pressure they really ratcheted up,
and then those turnovers led to some opportunities in transition
for them when they're scoring the basketball. So that was
a tough one for us, and trying to mix and
match a little bit personnel wise with some guys in
(01:42):
foul trouble. But you just got to be more poised,
you know, our ability to handle that pressure and be
poised and you know, attack it to maybe get to
a layup or a three. But those those turnovers really
really hurt us.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Kevin Riley unfortunately, not waste, but spoils a really great
game by him.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
I thought he was terrific.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
And it's just it's got to be just tough. I
thought we competed hard, but unfortunately that big lineup of
Theirs seemed to bother us a little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Yeah, they got good size, and I thought we didn't
do you know, we made some mistakes on some switches.
We got be to the outside a couple of times
for layouts, and that just comes down to, you know,
discipline and toughness on the defensive end and focus.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
And we were scoring, they were scoring.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
We needed to get some stops and then you just
let them get confident on the offensive end. We missed
some shots. The next thing you know, you're in a dogfight.
So tough one, you know, tough last twenty minutes for us.
On the defensive end.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
The free throws were such a factor in this game.
Campbell's shot twenty four of them. They started sixteen of
sixteen in the second half, and then Delaware this is
a top eleven team in the country in free throw shooting.
You're consistently good free throw shooting team. But three front
end misses on one on ones down the stretch and
Camden on his left it real short off the hand.
(02:57):
What were you saying at the line? I mean, this
is those are shots that you guys typically.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah, and I just thought Niles, you know, he had
you know, two back to back one on ones.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
We could have got into a one possession game.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
We needed that, you know, maybe we could have stolen it,
get them a little tight, you get to stop, you
get a score, put pressure on them, but we just
didn't capitalize.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
You know, I don't know if it was fatigue.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
You want those guys then at the line at the
end of the game shooting free throws. You're usually pretty
good free throw shooters, John Cammon especially, you know, I
think the fatigue of how they play in their style
maybe war on him a little bit, but it happens,
you know, and we just didn't do it.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
It comes down to the defensive end. We didn't do
it off on the defensive end to win the game.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
You did so much on the offensive end. This is
the most assists ever in a game under new year coaching,
twenty seven assists. It was a dream for a point
gund me. You guys are sharing the basketball, doing everything
that you need to do. Nine assists for Isaiah Pasha,
nine to one assist to turnover ratio.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Of course, you got in some foul trouble, had to
sit a bit.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
But you know, I wish we were talking about this
in a winning fashion because there were so many positives
on the offensive end. But what were you saying from
your team in terms of sharing the basketball?
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yeah, I mean we had fourteen assists in two turnovers
at halftime. Again, that's what we preach our un selfishness.
You know, they speed you up a little bit, and
I thought we capitalize on some layups, some threes, some
beautiful offensive possessions in the first half. And again we
you know, we shot sixty five percent for the game,
fifty nine from three from the three. Obviously the free
throw line wasn't a weapon for us, but you know,
(04:21):
we got to continue to do that. We got to
continue to do that. But then on the defensive end, again,
I'm gonna keep coming back to our defense in the
fight and the toughness there, and it's.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
A challenge for this group.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
You know we show it at times, but the consistency
to be able to do it multiple possessions in a
row against a team you know that puts a lot
of pressure on you in the physicality and just wasn't enough.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Ninety six ninety one the final in this one. Coach,
always appreciate your time. We'll talk to you on Monday
at the Coach Show. All right, guys, thanks, thank you
Mark so much. That's our head coach. Martin Engles B
