Speaker 1 (00:00):
But first we're going to be joined by our head coach,
Martin Inglesby, who comes out to chat with us after
Delaware falls seventy five to seventy. Coach, always appreciate your
time here on the broadcast, and coach, you were right
there again with the townsond Tigers down the stretch, you
get to that four minute media time out and just
a couple of missed opportunities. They missed a couple front ends,
(00:22):
you can't grab the rebound, and then suddenly targets six
in a row. Just walk us through kind of the
last four minutes again against Towson.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Yeah, I mean again, you know, we're down one and
we can't get a defensive rebound on a free throw
twice back to back. You know that was I thought
that kind of broke our spirit. And then they made
a dayre three by Tark and that then you know,
we didn't execute on the offensive end, but you know
we battled. You know, we got to be able to
take the good from this and turn back around and
be ready to go on Saturday, because yeah, we had
(00:48):
a six point lead in the second half. I thought
we did some really really good things. We were active
on the defensive end, they get sixteen offensive rebounds. But
just we're right in it. You know, this group's got
to learn how to win and fine ways to win
and not beat themselves too. You know, I think some
of those turnovers, some of those quick shots bleed into
that a little bit. But you know, right there, four
(01:09):
minutes ago, forming a game and just couldn't convert.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Yeah, it's tough because there's no Marble victories for sure,
but you're right there with a team that's won now
eleven games in a row twice just cannot finish and
close out. We'll go through the basketball game. I think
both of us want to start in terms of thinking
of some of the positives in this game to takeaway.
Kevin Riley was sensational defensively. I thought Eric Timkoll with
(01:32):
a block on a bigger sulama, he stripped it to
start the second half as well. Both of those players
played so well against larger opponents today. Your thoughts on those.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Two, Yeah, I mean, Cavs is a tough kid. He's
a competitive kid, fearless. You know, he and Christian may
Or high school teammates. This is always a big one
for him. But he was up in the passing lanes.
I think our ability to Deny Williamson disrupted them. Cavet
six steals, and Eric's physicality around the basket was great.
You know he's smaller, but that dude, there's two two
guys in the front line of them are big, physical guys.
(02:01):
And I thought he was played as good as to
you know, post defense as he's played all year, and
had a block and got some defensive rebounds. But you know,
just in the end of the day, you know, their size,
their physicality, their ability to pursue the basketball, you know,
kind of helped them, help them get it done.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Martin, I thought you did a great job going with
the smaller unit tonight, and I thought they gave you
some really terrific minutes in both halves. Is that something
you see a little bit more going forward. I know
you were giving John Camden a little rest, but you
made a run at the end of the first half.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
We did, and that that group was really good to us.
So I kind of rode them at the end of
the half, and then you know, played a lot of
that group. I thought Toron's minutes were really good. He's
a bigger body, physical around the basket with some of
their frontline guys. He has fourteen points or nine points
in fourteen minutes. Had some good drives on some steals
that we were able to get to convert. You know,
we call it twenty five. We're switching everything just to
(02:51):
be able to keep some bodies on bodies with that group,
I thought had some really good segments.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Last game against Townsend. It was Williamson who was able
to take over in this one. And we talked about
the two big threes by tark Laid in the ball game,
but he was hard to defend throughout the ball game,
trying to get to the line, trying to get found
and get into the paint. What made him so difficult
for your group?
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, I mean he got confident. You know, we call
those little Dare threes. He's shooting some deep ones. But
we just needed to be a little more gauging up
into him and you know, make them, make them drive it,
you know, and and see if we can make a
miss or if he gets to the foul line or whatnot.
I just thought we lost a little poise, a little
focus all one of the best offensive guards in this league,
and he beat us, right. He made those two big
(03:29):
threes and we're right there at one point game we
get a stop. Who knows what can happen. But we
did a good job on Williamson, you know, we made
him work for everything. Thirteen points and thirty one minutes.
He beat us last time, but it was Tarkt really
stepped up at a big game.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
What was what were they doing defensively? John Camden only
seven shot attempts. He made two of them, both from
from three point range, But they did a good job
of kind of taking him away. We talked about again,
your team made a run with him out of the
ball game for the final five minutes of the first half.
But what were they maybe doing that made life difficult
for John?
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah, I mean they're playing a smaller guy on him.
They're switching a lot of ball screens. You know, we're
trying to get out and transition a little bit with
some stops to see if we could get some looks
for him from the three point line. And then you know,
he wasn't able to maybe get downhill as much as
he's been able to on some front line guys. So
but I don't think he forced anything. You know, some
of the other guys were rolling. Isaiah, we had four
guys in double figures. Cab played great, Toss was good,
(04:19):
Eric Timco. You know, we need to find ways to
get him more shots because he got rolling early. We
did a great job getting him shot at the end
of the half. And you know, but they got size,
they got quickness, they got athleticism that really kind of
bothered us at times. But we're gonna need all of them.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah, and again, there's a lot of positive takeaways. There
are some some negatives obviously in a losing effort down
by lost by five, seventy five or seventy to the
final in this one, as you get ready for a
Campbell team that's been playing solid basketball, I mean, how
do you look at a game like this where again
there are things you need to fix and you didn't
come away with the women, but you are right there
(04:53):
for thirty six minutes twice with a team that's twelve
and one in the league.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yeah. Mean, that's what I told our guys. I mean,
we got to take the good from this because we
played some really good basketball tonight. I think now that
we're healthy, hopefully we can get into a little more
of a rhythm with some guys and playing some guys
off the bench. You know, I thought Tarn gave us
a good minutes. Trent has given us good minutes. keV
got in foul trouble. But we got to be able
to put this one behind us and turn the page
(05:17):
to a Campbell team who's really good. Right, They're gonna
run with some good stuff. They're gonna spread us out.
They shoot a lot of threes. So we got to
be able to turn back around and win a game
on our home floor. But you know, we can't overreact
to it. There's no yelling and screaming, and there's a
lot of teaching and we'll probably show some film tomorrow. Stuff.
We got to get better at if we want to
be able to win a game in conference play. But
(05:37):
I do think, you know, at some point to be
able to strip some of the two games with holsand
out and say, hey, fellas if we just if we
do it a little better, a little more, plus it
up a little bit, we can beat anybody in this league.
And this group's got to stay together and believe that
as we head to uh, you know, this home stretch.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
All right, coach os, appreciate your time. Thank you, so much, Martin,
thank you all right. That's our head coach. Martin Inglesby
is stopping buying to chat with us after a seventy
five to seventy hard funk game
