Speaker 1 (00:00):
And we'll talk to coach Hinglesby about that as he's
going to join us. This interview, of course, presented by
Acvia Coach another tough one seventy eight to sixty five.
I know they don't get easier, and its continues to
be tough. You guys are battling out there. But what
was missing today against the Prime.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
You know, I think Hopster was just a better team
than us today. You know, they shot the ball really
well from the three point line thirteen of twenty four.
You know, proud of us for how we battled back.
We had a fifteen point deficit, we got it to
one in half, we're in the game, and then you know,
they were able to stretch to lead out again and
then we battled back. We had some shots down the
stretch that we just didn't make. You know, against a
(00:39):
team like that, in the game like that, you had
maybe two or three wide open threes that it could
have cut into one possession game and you needed to
make them. And then you know, just slowing down Cruz
Davis at the end of the game was really difficult.
It's played very well against us.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Well, tell us about the end of the ball game,
because yeah, we were excited about the shot opportunity that
Emery had. A three point goes in and you're down
by three points and it's a ball game. Instead five
straight from Davis and they were able to bloon the
lead up to double figures instead of what could have
been just a three point deficit. So walk us through
kind of how the game ended there.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yeah, I mean tough weight end. Obviously you had a
clean look there to cut it to a one possession game.
Maybe they get a little tight, but you know, our
ability to guard the basketball, our ability to really dig
in and get stops when we need to just not there.
And Cruz Davis made some big time plays. He's a
really good player, talented guy, and just weren't able to
get some stops to be able to get back in
to get a possession to see if we could, you know,
(01:34):
get it to a one point game under a minute
to go and stuff. I thought our guys played hard,
we fought, but just wasn't enough to beat them today.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Speaking of guys that played hard and really fought, Niles
Lane I thought had a terrific game, twenty four points.
He was really effective around the basket against two pretty
good sized players and shot blockers. Tell us about Niles
on his senior afternoon here.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Yeah, he was great. You know, they put the five
man on him, so our ability to get him into
some ball screen situations and roll and score round the
basket I think was effective for us. I thought he
came out of the gate. I think our first seven
or nine points, made some threes. I thought he had
one or two good looks there. Again, they could have
cut it to a one possession game, maybe under four minutes.
And you know, he's battling, he's hurt. He gets an
(02:16):
injection before every game, his hit pointer, all that stuff.
But he's a fearless dude and wants to get out
there and help his team. And then then we got
to have him guard their best player for forty minutes.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
And I want to ask you about a couple of
your older, your veteran players that really sparked this team
earlier in the season and throughout conference play. But they've
had a tough week. Eric Timpko again scoreless in the
basketball game. Oh to today. He was four against Trexwell
and then John Camden. He finishes this two game span
a four to fifteen from three point range, a little
quieter than normal on the offensive and where have they
(02:47):
gone maybe on the offensive side.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
You know, it's been a tough week for them. Obviously,
we need them to score the basketball. We need them
to make shots. You know, they had some smaller packages
that were in there where they're getting into them and
really trying to take away their three point and shot.
And you know, I got to try to find ways
to make or help them be effective, whether it's you know,
getting some downhill drive, some screens for them to be
able to come off some stuff. But you know, we
gotta help. We need to get Eric Timco back playing him.
(03:11):
He's such an important piece for us, averaging twelve or
thirteen points a game. Doesn't score tonight in eighteen minutes.
He wasn't effective the other night. She got to try
to help him. You know, he's banged up a little
bit too. I think he's maybe lost a little bit
of his confidence. And you know, as we get through
this last week, and I got to be able to
try to help.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Him talk us through some of the lapses, maybe in
when they had some some good looks against that zone.
I know there's a lot of communication needed for for
defensive on the defensive side of things, there were some
some some open looks at times against his own de.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Yeah, I mean, I you know, we're not great in
our Amanda man, so we're trying and searching, and I
think there's the three to two look was good to
us the other night. And again sometimes they're gonna get
open looks. Any team that plays zone, you're gonna give
up some open looks. I thought Hofstra made some big ones,
some timely ones. The kid Farmer, you know, played great
for them nineteen points. He's only averaging three or four,
(04:02):
made some big shots. And then Cruise. Anytime we needed
to get a stop, they got a bucket and he
stepped up. He's a big time player. And you know,
again we got we gotta be better. We got to
continue to work at it. We're gonna need it. We
gotta be able to change defenses, give people different looks.
But again it wasn't as effective as it needed to
be tonight.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Mart and I love the close of the first half.
We took it down from fifteen to one with Isaiah's
great play that dunk at the end of the half.
Do you think sometimes as much as I thought that
might be momentum does it take a lot of us
out of us emotionally and physically to battle back like that.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I hope not. You know, that's only twenty minutes. These guys,
I mean they should go in the halftime. We got
some juice, we got some energy, We're confident on the
offensive end, and you know, I thought we were able
to really dig in and get stops at the end
of the half and then capitalize offensively with some big
time plays. But you know, their quickness, their strength, their
ability to switch the ball, you know, really kind of
(04:55):
paralyzed at times in the second half. And you know,
we only scored sixty five points, you know, thirty three
in the first half, thirty two in the second half.
I think that's the testament to them and their defense
and their quickness. And then you know, they got confident,
they made some big time shots to beat us, to
win a road game.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Coach, I know this is not the way you wanted
to close out the home basketball season. Still regular season
games left, and then still a whole other season in Washington,
DC when the tournament starts. Where do you go in
terms of your your head? And I know where you're
gonna go geography wise, down South to take on Charleston
and UNCW. But with this team, you gotta you say,
you gotta keep learning and keep battling and keep keep going.
(05:32):
But not an easy task obviously when the season has
not gone the way that everyone has planned. What is
the message?
Speaker 2 (05:38):
S Yeah, I mean we got to stay together, and
it's hard to stay positive in these moments with the
university we've faced over the last you know, six weeks.
But we get a chance to come to practice on
Monday and try to get better. And again we got
to put our head in the sand and we got
to get back to work and try to find ways
to get better. You know, you got three games guaranteed
left in our college basketball season. Some of these guys
that's the last couple games of their college careers. So
(05:59):
they got to be a fight. They got to be
able to get back to work, and we got to
continue to look at different things on both ends of
the floor.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
I know you guys are working hard. Thank you so much,
Thank you for ever, thank care, thank you. That's our
head coach, Lamarin ingles Be coming out to talk with
us after a seventy eight sixty five lost hand hold
to the Hofser prize,
