Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back into Charleston, South Carolina. Get it for tip
off from t D Arena Scott Klatskan now joined by
our head coach, Martin Inglesby and a coach. Two games
left of the regular season before heading down to Washington,
d C. An opportunity to gain some confidence and play
well heading into the final week of this season. What
do you want to see out of your guys this
week as you head down south? Two tough games coming up.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, And I think the biggest thing is just getting
back to like having fun playing basketball. And you know,
we played, you know, some eight minute periods this week,
and it was more just guys seeing some shots going,
having some success on the basketball court. And we got
to keep keep preaching that we're pretty darn close and
staying positive with this group, and you know, it was
just being consistent for more minutes. For forty minutes. We

(00:40):
played great segments, but we just got to be able
to stretch it out and do it better on both
ends of the floor.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
And then tonight gonna switch it up a little bit,
just give it a different look in the starting five.
Talk a little bit what you're doing and why.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
I think just the size of Charleston. They start six
ten seven feet six eleven on the front line, so
we're gonna start making Emory to be able to match
up with the front line. We're gonna bring Eric tim
off the bench, and you know, I hope this could
give him a shot in the arm just to be
able to see a couple of minutes of basketball. You know,
we need him to score the basketball. He's not scored
the last two games for us, but maybe just kind
of give us a spark off the bench. And you know,

(01:13):
I think we need him to get back to being
confident and being aggressive on both ends of the floor.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
It's a good day when Making Emory can start the
basketball game for our team. But he's earned it, not
just different lineups, not just because Charleston's a little bit taller,
but certainly he's earned his minutes over the course of
the last maybe a couple of weeks or so. What
would you like to add of his game as of late.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Yeah, I mean, he's just super aggressive and competitive, one
of the most competitive kids out there. He's fearless. He's
got great size and length, can rebound the basketball, can
switch on too smaller guard. So he's coming into his own,
he's making shots for us. I just think he's gotten
better and better each week and we're going to need
him to really make an impact down the stretch.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
You talk about and when we talk postgame a lot
about but staying together, right, it hasn't gone exactly in
terms of the way we wanted a wins and losses
wives over the last couple of weeks. But you talk
about staying together as teams staying together. How has the
team been staying together and maybe who has helped and
keeping the team together.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Yeah, it's the one thing I'll give them credit for.
I do think they've been positive and they've come to
work every day. Obviously the losing can wear on you,
but continue to show them positive things that we've done
and how close we are. I mean, we've been right
there in a lot of these games. And then just
to be able to be more consistent and then when
things don't go well, like not get off the rails

(02:29):
and got to be able to stay positive, got to
be able to execute what we're asking them to do.
Somebody's got to step up and make a play, whether
it's on offense, whether it's on the defensive end. I
think our ability to communicate on the court in huddles
that timeouts is really really important and for me as
a leader, like to keep these guys together and keep coaching.
You know, as March, as we've seen, anything can happen.
In March's the greatest month of the year for college

(02:49):
basketball players and coaches, and it only takes one to
kind of get a group confident again and hopefully be
able to get some momental moving forward.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
There's an opportunity to gain some confidence to heading into
a March which on a Saturday. And of course, so
Washington DC coming up after these two games with the
focus on Charleston tonight, we're talking with our head coach
Martin Engles b and Charleston. They're defending back to back
champions effect the two last teams to win championships. The
AA will be take in the court tonight. One of
the reasons they were favorites again this year or towards

(03:17):
the top of the stands because they returned on Ta
Bursavi and he's a guy who's strong, he's tall like
Jokich almost where he scores, and he can pass. He's
the third second leading assist man. He's the leading rebounder
and score for this team. How do you defend a
guy like.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Yeah, I mean, I think we got to be able
to bring two bodies when he's on the post. You know,
we can't guard him one on one. It's not somewhere
where we can dig and make him make tough ones.
We don't have the size and length and maybe athleticism
be able to do that. So when he catches the
ball around the basket, we got to bring a second
defender and trying to make him give it up. He's
a very good passer for his size, So we've got
to be really disciplined in our routes and our coverage

(03:53):
just off the basketball, have active hands and make him
uncomfortable and then keeping him off the backboard. You know,
John Camden's going to start on on makeing is gonna
come over, and double Niles will come over. You know,
we got Gabe, we got Houston, we got Kevin over there.
They're all going to get an opportunity, you know, and
also give them some different looks defensively, whether it's get
into our diamond pressure, whether it's get into kind of
our three two zone that we've been playing a little

(04:13):
more lately. Just to be able to neutralize him on
the front line, so he's super talented, and then other
guys around him. They got a lot of weapons as well.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
This is a team that likes to go faster, third
in pace of play or second in pace. But is
there anything beneficial about playing a team that has a
similar style offensively?

Speaker 2 (04:30):
I mean, I want to put the brakes on it,
to be honest with you. Shut the game down because
our ability to play fast I don't think has maybe
helped us at times. We want to look to attack
on a miss and get out in transition, but we
can't get into a game where it's ninety to eighty five.
I think they're too good, They're too deep. They have
very skilled basketball players. So our ability to maybe down
shift a little bit and slow the game down I

(04:52):
think is an opportunity for us tonight to kind of
be right there in the end.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
We talked this season about how back heavy that you're
schedule is and how loaded the last half of CAA
play is. You're gonna end this season on I'M probably
the two best atmospheres in the CAAA. It's gonna be
probably sold out or close to it. They're doing a
white out today at TD Arena. How important is it
to just manage maybe the opening of the game and
make sure that you don't get in a whole early

(05:17):
and get that crowd into it.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Yeah, very important. I think we got to be in
the game at the first media timeout. I think when
anytime you go on the road, your ability to take
care of the basketball is really important. And those first
couple of possessions for us on the defensive end, like
we got to get stops and we got to play
without fallon. We played in great atmospheres in the non conference,
especially Saint John's where it's a raucus crowd. They're electric
in there, and you know, we got into the game

(05:40):
and we're there, and it's just got to treat it
as four you know it's not four, but like ten
four minute battles, and can we be there at each
time out and get to a timeout. Nathan justins we
need to continue to execute what we're doing well and
just trying to stay confident and a lot of that
falls on, you know, our older guys and our captains
and John Camden and Cavin and Niles just to be
to make the right play and be disciplined and taking

(06:02):
one possession at a time.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Coach all and on, this give me some keys to
success tonight. If we're talking to the post game of Delaware,
win the basket games because they did.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
What we go to make twenty threes and I'm just kidding,
you know, I just think we got to be able
to really limit their opportunities in transition, do a good
job on guarding the three point line with Boyd and Tavares,
I mean, burs Off, it's just gonna score the basketball.
And again take care of the basketball. You know they're
gonna run their stuff. We got to be able to
guard them, be disciplined in our coverages, give them some

(06:29):
different looks, and then be fearless on the offensive end.
That doesn't mean take bad shots or quick shots. But
I think if we can stir them up with some
good movement, we're able to get some good stuff. Especially
with that there are two front lines, frontline guys having
to guard some of our smaller perimeter guys. So we're
gonna get after great opportunity for this team tonight.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Thanks so much, our Scott.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Thanks that's our head coach, Martin Nigolszie will take a
time out. We come back more on ninety four to
seven W
