Speaker 1 (00:00):
For Martin and the group, and he's always good to
come and chat with us. This interview presented by Acme
Acme your favorite local supermarket, So we welcome in Martin
Inglesby and the coach. We talked about just the energy
the effort that Delaware had down in South Carolina. Didn't
think that they brought that that same intensity here tonight.
Your thoughts on you?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
I mean, I think to start the game, we did,
you know, it was twenty seven, twenty six, We're in
the game, and then they went on to run the
end of the half, and then we just didn't have
a whole lot of fight. I mean, their size obviously
inside you know, we're at a disadvantage there with obioh
and the big kid, you know McGriff and then you
know they made some shots in the second half and
to really extend that leave. So just didn't have any
answers and tip their had. You know, they were great

(00:40):
defensively against us. You know they we want to score
fifty eight points and weren't able to really get into
a good rhythm offensively.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Tell us a little bit about the lineup changes in
this ball game. We saw Middleton play expended ins in
the second half, we saw Houston Emery for the first
time since Northeastern. Just going into it. Your idea on
mixed up a bit.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, you're searching, you know.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
I think Houston just a little more deep the presence
maybe against McGriff and Obiaha with his length and size,
and he hasn't played a whole lot for us, but
just really really all things on the table.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
The most important thing for us.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
We got to get back to campus and regroup, and
we play on Friday at two o'clock, I believe. So
you're just really trying to evaluate your group and seeing
who can help us as we get to the conference tournament.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
Coach just talk about, you know, you get home tomorrow,
what will the early part of the week look like
for you? Obviously I think you probably need some rest
after And I said this to Scott, I don't think
the schedule makers did you any favors playing probably two
of the top three teams here, But what would the
early part of the week look like for your group?

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, I mean, we got to get back to campus tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
We'll fly out mid morning and then I think we'll
give them Sunday Monday off and then we got to
get the practice Tuesday, Wednesday, head down to DC Thursday,
light workout on Thursday, and we played two o'clock on
Friday against Tony Brooks. So got to be able to
regroup and see what we can do, see what we
can put in, see what we can tweak to be
ready to try to win a game on Friday.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
I just want to talk a little bit more about
about this one, and before we had I would like
not to kid I understand it, and trust me, you
know we don't. It doesn't give us any pleasure to
do it. To do it either, but just for for
our fans listening, just diving in a little bit more.
Isaiah Panta got off to a really good start as
his team did, and we referenced fifteen minutes and it
was tied at twenty six. All finished a tough out.

(02:18):
Eight turnovers in the contest. What was giving him trouble
out there?

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, there were switching a lot of the ball screens.
I thought he had a couple of careless decisions. He's
trying to help and trying to make some plays, but
you know, their size or length or different bodies on him,
their physicality on some of those drives, he wasn't able
to get downhill. I thought he had some good ones
in the first half. He's playing off two feet, sprang
it out to ship shooters, but we weren't really able
to get much effectively on the offensive end. And then

(02:42):
when you get down you know, you got to continue
to play team basketball, and I think we got off
the rails a little bit as far as you know,
guys not sharing it, guys trying to carry.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
The load and you know, make the big play.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
And against a team like that, I thought we had
some quick shots that really hurt us, some threes in transition,
a couple of turnovers that against a really good team
either got to make or you don't take, and I
think that led them to some opportunities to get a
double figure lead.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Going into halftime.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
We had plenty of time, and unfortunately the way the
score ended up. To talk about maybe what was not
going right from for Delaware in the second half, I
do want to bring it back to the beginning of
this basket game. Really, fifteen minutes in there was ten
lead changes. It was going back and forth. What was
going right during that span of the game where you
were able to go toe for tow with the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah, I thought our zone was pretty good to start
the game. I thought they missed some shots. We were
able to maybe get them to take some time off
the clock and get some good spacing. You know, we
made some shots. I don't think we had many turnovers
to start the game, but then we just couldn't score.
You know, we had extended periods of time in the
end of the first half going to the second half,
or we're just not scoring the basketball and they're making
three after three after three, and you know, we thought

(03:46):
zone could help us to try to slow them down,
but then you know they're making threes in the corner,
and then you're kind of at their mercy. Can we
playing man a man? Do we play zone and we
double in the post? And just their size, physicality, athleticism,
We just didn't have any answers.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
And when you look at and this is a team
that's being able to score all season long. Was it
was it shot selection, was it good looks and they
just weren't falling tonight? Or what were your thoughts in
terms of analyzer the offensive.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
I say all the above, and we had seventeen turnovers.
I think they're good with their switches. They're good in
the gaps. I think a lot of times were five
out and we don't know what to do when we're
a little rudderless there and trying to search for some opportunities.
And you know, I got to do a better job
of getting this organized or getting us into stuff. But
they just swallowed us, swallowed us up with their athleticism
and length and ability to switch to basketball.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
You know, I think too, with your really good teams
over the last several years, you've done this to other programs.
But you know, as they got more confident and they
were scoring after that tie twenty six twenty six, I
felt like they kept, you know, getting more ball pressure,
and then that caused some difficulties for your group.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Did you expect that kind of pressure from them, Yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Mean they're good, you know, especially in their building.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
I thought we'd see a little more full core pressure
to start the game. We didn't see that as much,
but once they started making some shots, the energy of
the crowd they were pushing us out. We're playing offense
twenty seven twenty eight feet. Nobody's going without it. We
don't have any good spacing to be able to attack.
They got some rim protection and then you know, we're
looking for ways to try to generate some offense and
create some things.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
We just didn't We didn't get into a good rhythm.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
You know, our big guys got to be able to
screen and help some of those guys get open when
they're sweating, when when the big guys guarding them and
just we're just, yeah, we were lost out there.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Coach Carney asked about the week coming up, and you
always are able to get this team ready to make
a push in the CAAA tournament will start on Friday
this time around. We'll talk more on Monday night. We
have a Coach the Show coming up at Eklon Kh
on Monday, so we'll dive into that more. But we
know you'll get this team ready and to head down
to Washington, right, guys, thanks, we appreciate the time.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Coach.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
That's our head coach, Martin Inglesby
