Speaker 1 (00:00):
Another day in Washington, d C. It's a CAAA tournament

(00:03):
Round two for Delaware. After a win over stony Brook,
we are getting closer to tip off as the Hens
will take on Campbell. The number five seeds got Kladskin
Martin Englesby adjoining us now and coach. First of all,
congratulations on the victory. Style points are not awarded out
in March. It's if you win and then you get
to advance as the Hens div So let's recap this one.
We got talked to Bill Phillips after the game, which

(00:23):
was great, but getting your perspective, walk me through the
positives that obviously led to a large lead and then
some of the more teachable moments. So that allowed stony
Brook to get back in it. But ultimately you hung
in there and got the win.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, I mean happy for our group if you able
to get it done. Obviously, you know in tournament setting,
you know, winnings hard, and I wish we could have
played the first twenty or the second twenty minutes like
we play the first twenty minutes. Got off through Gray
Star really sharing the basketball, you know, twelve assists, one turnover,
we made some three's got Eric Timco going, which was
really important for our group, and found a way to
get it done. You know, they made a run, they

(00:57):
tied the game. But I love our composure and our
poise down this year. We made big free throws and
then we got the stops we need. I thought Niles
down the stretch on Luster was really really good with
his size and length and frustrated him. And you know,
to weather a night where Luster was playing terrific. He
made some really tough shots, but we were able to
get it done and make enough winning plays down the
stretch to get to today.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Absolutely were and I want to go back to all
the way to the beginning, at the very beginning. The
first shot of the game, in fact, was made by
Eric Timpco, and we talked about in the pregame show
what a boost of confidence that must be for Eric Timpco,
who was struggling down the last two weeks this season
and only had five total points in four games. He
had five points before the media timeout of the game
against Todybrook. But walk me through just the mindset and

(01:38):
the thought process of putting him back into the starting
lineup and giving him that confidence set that you trust
him and need him to go shoot.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, I mean I had flashbacks to my senior year
at Notre Dame. Wady kid David Graves was coming off
the bench and Coach Brands started him in the bay
in the lineup. In the NCAA tournament, he had sixteen
points and really helped us get.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Off to a good start.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
But I just thought for our team, for Eric, he's
a big part of what we do.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
He was averaging double figures.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
He had a tough kind of all of it after
he was out with the flu.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
So just a shot in.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
The arm from him from a confidence standpoint, no, uncertainly wondering,
were much better basketball team when he's confident, he's making
shots and he's a big part of it. So that
kind of led into my decision on Tuesday, probably Sunday
coming back from Wilmington. We need to get him back
in the lineup, get back to that core group of guys,
and then who else can compliment those guys.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
A great balance. He led the way but five and
double figures out of the starting lineup. Yesterday we mentioned
the starting lineup, but how did Houston memory come off
the bench? He gives some really positive minutes. He had
a couple of block shots and a spurt where he
had four points in a row for this team, and
just tell us about him kind of getting back into
the lineup a little bit and some of the minutes

(02:41):
that he's earned.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, I mean, we've kind of been going back and
forth over the last couple of weeks as far as
who was going to give us some size and presence
on the defensive end. That has been an Achilles hero
for us, and you know, he probably some of our
best wins this year, especially in a non conference. He
was a part of Right and I own a couple
of ones up in Mohegan Sun and just thought his
ability to kind of alter stuff around the bass fit.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
He's a great ball screen and roll guy.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
We've done a good job finding him on the roll,
So just giving him three or four minute spurts and
then seeing where we're at. But I thought a big
boost he got a tipped ONNK yesterday, affected some stuff
around the backboard.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
We're gonna need his effort again today.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Let's talk about this Campbell team and they come in
here with a one point in the season. They had
won seven games in a row. They were dominating the
league play, but now they've they've lost a few games
in a row coming in, but they'll be confident because
they had a great season, and they'll be confident because
they've got nam Kobe Dukan on the team that were
familiar with thirty three points against the Hens. I want
to just go back to that game as a whole,

(03:37):
ninety six to ninety one. Not every day he score
ninety one points and don't win a basketball game. It
was so good offensively, twenty seven assists in the contest,
sixty five percent from the field shooting, but just couldn't
stop them defensively. So what happens What adjustments are made
today in terms of a game plan against the game?

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yeah, I mean, I think we got to be really
good in transition defense, and then we got to take
care of the basketball.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
I think that's where we got a.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Little off the rails at our place was we didn't
have Trent Middleton, Isaiah Pasha Gotten Fautro, but we didn't
have a secondary ball handler, and we turned it over
and they were able to score the basketball pretty quickly
to get back in and then we got rattled right
and then we weren't able to score the basketball.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
But you know, we can't let this game get into
the nineties.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Dugan's a terrific offensive players shot the ball well against us,
really aggressive on the offensive end. But we also can't
let those other guys, you know, cook at nineteen against us.
Some other guys came off the bench and had double figures.
You're aady with weather that yesterday with luster, because we
did a pretty good job on some of the other guys.
But we can't have that complimentary guys go off and
really be effective as well. So we're gonna have to

(04:37):
be good with the basketball. They're going to pressure us
for forty minutes. You know, they think that's an advantage
of theirs not having played yesterday or trying to wear
us down for forty minutes. So, you know, Isaiah's got
to be good with the basketball. Turn it's got to
come in and our other guys really got to help
get the ball over half court next to Kuz. I
think if we do that, we can get great stuff
on the offensive end. But we got to be strong
with the basketball and really try to slow them down
in transition.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
You were great with the basketball last time, great with
the shooting the basketball last time against the Camels. We
talked about Niles Lane and the job he did against
j Luster. It doesn't get easier for Niles, and coach
Phillips in the post game said, you know, Lyles has
guarded the team's best player probably thirty two times this season.
Will be thirty three today because he's going to go
up against Dugan a little bit of a different type

(05:16):
of matchup, but then yesterday for Niles. But that's the
assignment Niles on on do.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Yeah, and we're not going to switch as much as
we did at our place, just to be able to
try to keep his you know, him on them six
or five athletic with his quickness. You know, Dugan's gonna
get a lot of shots. We just got to make
him work for everything. And you know, I challenged the
rest of the group that you know, Niles can't guard everybody,
so we got to be able to slow the other
guys down and not just let you know, some of

(05:41):
these other guys get comfortable on the offensive end like
they were able to at our place. So Niles will
start on him. You know, Houston Emry might be on
him with his size, making Emory Cavin might have to
guard him a little bit.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
And we got to give him some different looks on
the defensive end.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
You know, we play a little more zone lately, makes
and misses a three to two.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Maybe that kind of neutralizes them.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
You know, they spend a lot of time I'm doing
that five on oh stuff with their Princeton cuts and
their spacing. So try to keep them on the heels
with changing defenses.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
There's different ways of thinking about tournament settings, as Some
say the advantage goes to the team that's played already.
Some say the advantage goes to the team that is rested.
What say you in terms of the pros and cons
about game number two and versus game number one?

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yeah, I think the team that plays well always usually
you know, got a upper hand. But no, I do
think getting that one yesterday for a group that you know,
we played some good basketball. Again, we don't have a
lot to show for it in the win column, but
this group really believes in themselves. They got great spirit
about them, and I think to be able to get
one yesterday gives us a great shot in the arm.
And you know, I talked to the team about, you know,
when we came down here and want it, what that

(06:39):
first win did to the belief of our team. So
I think we're coming in Hungary. We know this is
a game too that we let slip away at our place.
There's an added motivation there and then hey man, anything
can happen as we get past this one. We get
to the quarters and you know, take it day by day,
but trying to get to one to know to day
and against a really good team.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
So we're gonna have to be better to go we
did yesterday, So let's end it again today that the
same way. If I'm talk to you tomorrow for a
pregame interview at the Hens, will have done what all right?

Speaker 2 (07:04):
We will have it, played better defense than we did
last time and not giving up ninety six points.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
All right?

Speaker 1 (07:09):
I like that, coach bestI luck, and I hope I
do talk to you tomorrowright, thanks? All right, that's our
head coach, Martin Ingols. We will take a time out,
we come back. It's tip off ninety four to seven
