Speaker 1 (00:00):
And welcome back into your pregame show ninety four to
seven WDSD. Nick Alisondrini now joined, but your Delaware head
coach Martin eingles, We coach, appreciate your time as always
ahead of a big match up here at home againstrex So,
I guess I just want to start by asking how's
everybody feel? And I know we've seen through this winner.
It's been a bad winner in terms of the flu
and the viruses and stuff like that and different guys
having to miss certain games. How are you feeling, how's
(00:20):
the team feeling? How guess we'll be question number one tonight?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yeah, I mean I was under the weather a little bit.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
You can hear my voice earlier in the week. But
we do have everybody available tonight. I hopefully the flu
went through our group and just from a health standpoint physically,
we'll have everybody available. Obviously we won't have Scott kaskin
tonight with us. You know you got the bullpen coming
in with you.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
That's good luck.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
But yeah, so we're got a great challenge to that
against Drexel, and it's all about.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Us what we do.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
How we had a good week of practice in our
preparation tonight and excited to compete tonight.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Absolutely, and again a second half lead the last two games,
a tough one on Saturday. What, in your opinion, is
the key to finishing off some of these, you know,
down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
I think just staying poised.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
You know, I got to do a really good job
of kind of managing our group down the stretch, possession
by possession, and we got a little disjointed and disorganized
at times to be able to run some entries, some sets,
to be able to direct the basketball to certain places.
And then you know, their pressure really bothered us last Saturday,
obviously not having Trent Middleton available, he was out with
the flu one lass ball handler. We got to be
(01:20):
able to take care of the basketball, and we got
to get back to garden people. You know, we gave
out ninety six points on our building. We're scoring the basketball,
we had twenty seven assists, really sharing it. But we
just got to take more pride in getting stops and
limiting teams to one shot.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
And you said on Monday during the Coaches Show, you said,
we're going to come to practice, it'll be an hour
and a half of defense. So far this week how's
that practice been on the defensive side. What did you
see out of your guys there this week?
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Yeah, and it's been tough, it's been physical.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
I think the guys have gotten the message that we
got to continue to just grind on the defensive end
and be connected. There's times where we play really good
team defense, and there's other times where guys are out
there on islands by themselves, and it's got to be
five guys in a white or black jersey tonight really
digging in and communicating and be physical and just take
pride in getting stops on that end. If we do that,
(02:02):
then we can get to the offensive end and share
it and move it and you know, have fun like
we know how to.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
And get to the offensive side. With John Camden a
seven field goals attempted in the last two games, kind
of a lowmark for him in terms of getting his
shots up. Didn't score in the second half against Stretch.
So the first time around, what did they do to
kind of slow him down and what's the key to
kind of getting him back into that offensive rhythm. I mean,
you just don't want him to be efficient obviously.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yeah, I mean we want him to be confident we're
going to go for it in our building. You know,
teams have adjusted to how they're guarding him. They're not
putting the five man on him, They're putting more of
a forward or four men on him. They're not switching
as many ball screens or giving him opportunities to pick
and pop. So he's got to be able to find
ways to to to make an impact and kind of
take what the defense gives them.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
And we also have to run some stuff to get
him some shots.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
But you know, he's got super you know, uber confidence
in our offense and flow. If we get to stop
him getting out in transition, being able to get to
the three point line, get the foul line, shot fake
and some drives. He is a playmaker out there for
us as well. Something great job creating offense for his teammates.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Another play maker Isaiah Pasha bringing home that fifth I'm
CIA Rookie of the Week award. And you know you
talked about him earlier on the Coaches Show this week
as well, and what he's been able to do not
there in that first game Againstrexel. Could he be the
difference tonight and what do you see him kind of
fitting in here against the Dragons.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, I hope.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
So, you know, he or Trent Middleton didn't play up
in Philly, you know, a month ago or whatever it was.
But you know, Isaiah is really coming into his own.
He's a confident offensive guy. We need him to be
consistent and a little tougher on the defensive end. But
he's scoring the ball, he's distributed. I think the first
twenty minutes against Campbell was maybe the best twenty minutes
he's played all season.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
And he knows he's a big part of what we're doing.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
So he's gonna have the ball in his hands and
he's got a balance look into attack but also getting
his teammates involved and finding opportunities for them.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
And you obviously want to focus on the defense. Excuse me,
I'm like you said direct. They kind of like to
slow the game down, obviously, How will that affect what
you guys do defensively today? Just kind of the way
that they like to play.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yeah, I mean, we just got to be really good
in the half court, be disciplined in our routes, being
able to keep guys out of the paint. A lot
of times are gonna run some stuff and then it's
going to be one of the perimeter guys kind of
playing one on one and our ability to guard the
basketball and maybe see a body and a half. We
got to be good with our gap help. We got
to be able to rebound the basketball. And I think,
you know, maybe giving him some different looks, whether it's
you know, doubling a ball screen, whether it's three quarter
(04:11):
court pressure, back to some Manda man or some zone,
just to kind of keep them on their heels.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
And Kobe McGee big game last time around, I think
it was twenty two he had in the game for
the Dragons last time you guys met, Anything specifically you're
working on this time or just the same thing pretty
much reiterated there for the last question, anything specifically.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah, he's a talented offensive guy, and we really want
to try to limit his attempts from the three point line.
I think he was four of eight against us the
first time. We had some breakdowns where he got confident
and made some big threes. He's an experienced guy. You know,
he and Yame Butler are two talented offensive guys. We're
gonna have to do a really good job of slowing
them down.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
And again, we were talking about before we went on
the air, last time you're going to play Direxol the
series split eighty five at piece heading into this one tonight,
how big is it to get the last w you know,
even and not about the record, but the last time
you're going to see his school here potentially in the CIA,
who knows what happens down the road. And then obviously
again as we mentioned, important to.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Get that last victory it is. You know, it's always
been a heck of arrival. We with Drexel obviously the closest
ch school to us. We've had some great battles over
the years. I think this would be a great shot
in the arm, an important one for our team and
our program to get this one.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
You're heading into the weekend exactly right.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
That's what it's more important about it, Coach, I'll finally
get your keys to the game here. You gave a
bunch of a bunch of them here throughout the interview.
What it would be there your top two or three
here that you're looking for tonight out of your squad?
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Yeah, I mean, just taking great pride on the defensive end.
We got to be able to limit them to one shot.
We got to be able to guard their actions some
longer possessions and just stay disciplined and focused and poised.
And then if we get a defensive rebound, you know,
get out and have fun on the offensive end, like
we know how to do. You know, we reference that
all the time. And then you got to be able
to take care of the basketball. You know, we can
(05:45):
share it, but also don't want to give them any
easy opportunities where they can get some easy buckets. So
really value in the basketball.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Coach, appreciate your time as always that you Sart Tiboff
just around the corner at Strexel and the Hens coming
up here on ninety four seven w DSD
