Speaker 1 (00:00):
One last time in the Bob Cartpenter Center in the CAA.
It's Delaware versus Hofstra, and I'm Scott Klaskin, Joebar, head
coach Martin Englesby, and coach thank you so much for
joining us as we do our final pregame interview here
at the Bob This season a chance to end on
a good note here in new Ark, but with things
not maybe going the way that you wanted right now

(00:20):
and been hard to find wins as we get to
the end of the season, how do we dig in?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
How do we get this team to finish strong?

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Yeah, I think the most important thing is just like
to be able to stay together and after a tough
one on Thursday night, I told those guys to have
a great attitude and energy as they came back to
practice on Friday. Got to be able to watch some
clips from things we didn't do well on Thursday and
keep teaching and coaching. You know, there's a lot of
basketball left to be played. We got four games guaranteed,
and you know, I think this group is close. We
just got to continue to play a little better basketball,

(00:49):
put possessions together, hopefully be able to get over the
hump and get some confidence.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Absolutely, and a chance to get some confidence today and
against a Hofstra team that's also been struggling.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
We'll talk about that. Two teams that are they're looking to.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Get back on track today in Newark it is senior
Day though here at the Bob and Senior day's looking
a little different. And nowadays, I think long of the
day for any program to have a guy in there
four or five years that you're saying goodbye to. But
we will say goodbye to a couple of guys that
are playing in their final home game today, starting with
with Niles Lane. I think in today's day and age,
when you get two years out of a player, that's

(01:22):
pretty dar darn good. And the Niles came in a
season ago and stayed for his senior campaign after starting
his year as his career at Florida. What is Niles
given to you and what would you like to see
for Nyles today?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yeah, I mean he's been a kind of an all
around team guy. You know, when we got him a
couple of years back, he wasn't the most confident offensive
player or the most confidence a basketball player. Didn't get
that many minutes at his time at Florida, but I
do think he's really grown as a basketball player. He
makes an impact on the defensive end with his ability
to guard and rebound and get out in transition. And

(01:55):
I do think he's coming into his own on the
offensive end, where he's shooting the ball from the three
point line's able to get downhill. He's getting more experience, uh,
you know, each day. And I think a coaching staff
that really believed him and believed in him and gave
him the confidence to finish his college career the right way.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
You can see you can see him grow in confidence.
New was their defensively this year. It has been great
to watch him blossom on offense. And the other two
guys that are our first year players on this program
but meant a whole lot, Eric Timco and Toron Allen.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
They both get to start today. What are they brought
to the team.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah, I mean Eric, you know both of them. You
had a great team guys, culture program guys. You know,
we recruited Tron a little bit out of high school
before he went to Mamoth and then kind of a
just a jack of all trade, intangible guy that you know,
has dealt with some injuries midway through the conference play,
but it's given us a little bit of a spark
off the bench. And you know, Eric Tinco is just
a joy to coach. A guy that can really score
with the basketball and uh stretch it from the three

(02:44):
point line. You can do a little more than that
and put it, put it on the floor and get
to the foul line and just you know, another great program.
Guy that brings it every day, gives great effort and
guys you want to have a part of this program.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
And we talk about the seniors.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
But on the flip side, really good games, yes, or
on Thursday from your freshman Isaiah Pasha making Emery, both
playing really well. I think it says a lot from
the players and from the coaching staff when you get
your rookies playing their best basketball at the end of
the season. That's got to feel good to see them
really flourish towards the end of the year.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Yeah, I mean, I think Isaiah's really you know, coming
to his zone. He's averaging, you know, had five or
six straight double figure scoring nights. He's playing a lot
of minutes. But I do think he's balancing looking to
score and distributing and get his teammates involved and then
making is a guy that we're really high on. Can
stretch the floors, made some shots. He's really shot the
ball well in league play. So two young guys will
only get better on our program.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
All right, we're talking with our head coach, Martin Engles
being out talk about the Hofstra. Pride went up to
Long Island and go our way and in that game
cruise twenty eight points, ten rebounds. He was really tough
on you guys defensively, hard to stop.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
But what do you do this time to maybe slow
him down a bit?

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Yeah, maybe play a lot of zone. No, but it
was good to us the other night. But he had
a great game. That was a long time ago. But
he's a downhill attacking guard. We got to be able
to go over all his ball screens. I think we
tested him up there when we played them before. He
made a couple and got super confident. But it's got
to be able to see one and a half bodies,
two bodies when he gets downhill. Nothing easy in transition,
you know, be physical with him and make him earn

(04:08):
his stuff. On the offensive end.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Well, you mentioned the zone. I thought you guys looked
really sharp in the zone. Against Trekshaw on Thursday. Is
that something you'd like to see more today?

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yeah, I think we're gonna have to play it, you know,
make some misses. That's kind of what we talked about
going into preparation. You know, we're a man on a
miss make or in our three, which is a three
two kind of matchup zone. We got good principles. I
think our guys executed it really well the other night,
so gonna hopefully give them long doses of that today.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Defensively for Hafster, they have some pretty good rim protection.
What do you tell your guys about attacking the rim
just being aware of who's inside.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Yeah, just playing all two feet. You know, I think
we've gotten better as far as attacking the basket and
plan off two feet to be able to get to
the foul line. But you know, no tough. We call
them shooting turnovers. Tough shooting turnovers that lead to transition
opportunities for them. So got to be able to limit
those playoff two feet, you know, kind of spray out
to those guys once we get paint touches and kind
of put pressure on the rim.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Two teams today that they really would love to get
a win heading into March, how do you be the
hungrier team.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
To Yeah, I think it starts on the defensive end.
I told our guys, you know, we gave up ninety
three points against them last time. It's a team that's
only averaging sixty five points. I mean, we got to
continue to fight and battle and do everything we can
on a defensive end to slow them down. And then
we want to get on in transition. You know, hopefully
we can make some shots in our building and make
the extra pass get good ones. We had some good
looks the other night that we just didn't make. But

(05:21):
I do think you'll see a team that's very hungry
and ready to go this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Coach, we always appreciate your time. Bestl up Oh Scott.
Thanks all right, that's our head coach, Martinigles.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
We will take one last break when we come back.
