Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back into ninety four seven w DSDFM. You're home

(00:02):
for Blue Hen's basketball here at Trash Colliseum. I'm Scott Katsky,
now joined by our head coach Martin Englesby and coach
coming in the last game of the regular season. You
start off the week down in Charleston with a really
impressive performance. No, you didn't get to win, but you
gotta be feeling good about the way your team is playing,
especially coming off that game down in South Carolina.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah. I mean, again, we're disappointed with the outcome, but
I thought we did some really good things. We competed
kind of a fearless group. We got down, we bounced back,
We did to do a three point game with under
four minutes ago, and just couldn't get stops or scores
to get the victory. But I think our guys spirits
have been great. The energy has been really good at
shoot around and practice and stuff. So's see if we
can have a great effort.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Tonight and then you reference it in the post game
show at Charleston.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
But the players are feeling it too.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
I mean, they obviously want to get the victories as.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Well and wanted to come out on top.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
But they know how closely are your reference even I
think Kevin Riley referencing in the locker room of how
close you guys are right there. But tell me a
little bit about how the players are taking it all in.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, I mean, I think they're super confident in who
we are as a basketball team, you know, dealing with
the adversity and not having maybe the wins to show
for it and stuff. And cabin spoke up after the game,
and we're right there. We got to keep plugging along.
You know, tousand won the league, and we feel we
should have beat them twice. And if we just keep
coming to work and punching the clock and tweaking some

(01:22):
things and getting better and making some more plays, you know,
we feel we can beat anybody in this league. And
you know what, we got to step back and continue
to prepare like we have and obviously got a great
challenge to night against a really, really good team. But
I think our guys will be loose, We'll be ready
to go, They'll be fearless and see if we got
a shot tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
And know what a performance John Campmon had on Thursday
thirty one points a CIA high.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
It was the way that he was getting it.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
I thought that was a really, really good for John
on Thursday night.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
What did you like most about his perform I.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Think just the balance from his three point shooting to
scoring around the basket and then getting to the foul
I mean, he's a great free throw shooter. He was
nine of nine from the foul line. I think we
have to do a better job of taking advantage of
mismatches and some switches when he has smaller guards on him.
We want him to get out and transition to get
some of those looks. But then I do think our
guys were looking for him when we had some opportunities,
and then he's driving it. He's creating, he's scoring. He

(02:11):
was just super confident and a great overall night for him.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Making Emory was inserted in the starting lineup, got a
little bit taller against a team that had a big
front line. Gonna have a big front line today against
you and s W as well. What did he give
to your team in the starting I.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Mean he's learning every day.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
He's a freshman.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
I mean we start two freshmen at Charleston and we're
gonna do it again tonight at Wilmington. But you know,
he's a super competitive kid. He's long, he is athletic.
He allows us to coach him and be hard on him.
He wants to get better every day, but he just
you know, we're bigger when he's out there. I think
he gives us an offensive rebounding presence. He had a
great tip dunk the other night against Charleston, and I

(02:49):
think he's just gonna keep coming into his own as
he gets more opportunity.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Coach, we're talking with our head coach, Martin ingles b
and while we're talking about height and size, they've got
the biggest guy in the league, say, the biggest size
in terms of Obioha, who is seven feet tall, two
hundred and eighty pounds. And obviously you have to be
physical with a guy like that. How how do you
teach being physical against a guy like that when you
don't have players that are and no one has players

(03:15):
quite that side.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Well, I mean it's got to be a team effort.
And you know, John will start on him. We're going
to try to double the heck out of him. Every
time he touches the ball on the post. We got
to keep him off the backboard, and sometimes you just
got to make sure he doesn't get the offensive rebound
and somebody's got to come in there and try to
clean it up. But played well against it's the first time.
He's a big, physical dude. We got to continue to
do our work early, and then we got to make
him guard on the defensive end with our movement, change

(03:37):
the sides of the floor, get him guarding in space,
and hopefully we can take advantage of him on that
end of the floor.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
And then how about mcgriffield really efficient score coming off
the bench.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah, he's really good.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I mean, he's lefty skilled. They try to go to
they're really playing through those guys almost every possession down
the stretch. So I think zone can maybe neutralize those
guys and not let them play one on one or
having us to come over in the double teams and
just try to give him some good looks. And then
you know, those the front lines really good. And then
they got Nubie and some other guys that you know,
great complimentary scorers out there that we're gonna have to

(04:07):
do a good job in transition guarding the three point line,
just try to slow them down.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
You mentioned Donovan Nuby has not been shooting as well
over the last couple of games. But he is always
a threat to go out there and have a big game.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
What do you tell you guys about him?

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yeah, I mean, just got to find him early in transition.
We got to have good routes. We have to make
him work. I think Kevin did a great job on
Thursday night against a kid from Dell State, just trying
to frustrate him with a hand in his face and
push him off his line. And you know, got to
have an awareness of him when we get into our
three two zone just to be able to try to
limit him. But you know, we did a good job

(04:41):
on he scored it, but he was six of eighteen.
Not the most efficient night at our place. And you
got to be able to look at some different matchups
if he gets going.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
And then Trash Coliseum tonight a very tough place to
play at Senior Night.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
It's a night games. It's going to be packed.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
I thought you guys were very poised to get and
TD Arita against Charleston. How do you feel like your
team did on Thursday? What he tell them about the
crowd that they're going to face to them.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
I mean, we played at Saint John's in karnasecond which
is a terrific atmosphere. And I thought our poise on
Thursday night against Charleston, when you know they got to
get a little rolldy on their run. You know, our
guys were pretty composed and that was one of our
keys of the game is poised for forty minutes and
our ability to stay together and communicate. And you know
they're going to make some runs. It's going to get
loud in there, but it's all about us and what
we do and how we execute. And you know, the

(05:23):
game like this, you know they're going to try to
play fast. We'd like to pick and choose our times
to look to attack, but we got to be great
with the basketball. You know, I think it hurt us
a little bit against Charleston, against our pressure, we threw
a couple away, but we got to be really sure
with it. We got to have receivers and really limit
any easy opportunities that they can get.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Coaches March first best time year.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
It is the best time of the year, yep. Time
to make a run. There's some momentum in this last
game of the year to help us in DC.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Thanks so much, all right, Thanksgott.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
That's our head coach, Martin Nigolesby will take our last
time out we come back. It's Delaware versus u NCW
on ninety four to seven w DST
