Speaker 1 (00:00):
Man, welcome back in a Fox Sports twelve. Doney, We're
gonna be joined now by our head coach, Amas, promised
Martin Inglesby on his way here to chatting with us
after an eighty to sixty six loss on the road.
This interview brought to you by me act Me your
favorite local supermarket aid. Coach. I disappointing second half there
for your team following to Ducale, I have to talk about,
but I'll let you just kind of from the top.
(00:21):
What frustrates you the most about your team's effort tonight.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
You know, I thought they were a hungry basketball team
the second twenty minutes of the game. You know, I
thought our first shot defense was pretty good, and then
they had eleven offensive rebounds in the second half, and
I felt like we were guarding the whole twenty minutes,
you know, and when we weren't taking in, we weren't
getting stops. I think it took us a little bit
out of what we were trying to do on the
(00:43):
offensive end, and we were searching, you know, they were
switching a lot of stuff. I thought we had some
good looks, but you know, we were forcing a couple
possessions and then so much pressure back on the defensive
end that you know, forty four points and they were
the hungary basketball team. Tip your hat to them. They
made the plays they needed to do, and then they
got confident offensively. Right, they're not maybe the best three
(01:03):
point shooting team. They made some timely threes. They made
us pay when we gave up those offensive revis.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Yeah, it looked like that they got those second chance
opportunities with the threes after some long rebounds were missed
and the loose balls went their way. A defensive would.
But yet you were working so hard defensively that almost
almost looked like you didn't have that flower confidence that
we talked about pregame that you typically have on offense.
What were they doing. What were the adjustments that they made defensively.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
For you guys, I mean, they're switching a lot of stuff,
especially with John Camden. They're guarding here with the four,
and I just don't we didn't think we're as effective
maybe getting to the paint and kind of getting that
wheel churn in. I thought we did a good job
in the first half. We had some good looks. We're
getting in the paint, We're confident offensively and then they
ratcheted up the pressure. They're taking our guards out of
it with you know, denying them, and you know, we
had a nice little action to start the second half.
(01:45):
We get a back door layup and the next thing,
you know, I think they scored ten of the last
ten of the next thirteen possessions on the offensive end,
and we dug ourselves a whole and then you're you know,
you're forcing things, you take some quick ones. I thought
we had some decent possessions, but you know, again, I
have to do a better job of trying to help
get us organized when you know, teams are getting up
into us and taking you know, our permo out of it.
(02:07):
And then maybe we're not as effective with John Camden
and the ball screen.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
I thought in the first half, and you referenced it,
nobody was staying in front of Isaiah Pasher was able
to get to the ram of a bunch of and
again they did make some adjustments to make it more
difficult in the second half. There was one span of
the game that I want to talk about when Dinkins
got going. He made a couple of threes. You guys,
guys as close as sixty seven to sixty one. He
goes back to back on threes. He had a couple
(02:30):
of turnovers in that span and you lost him on
a baseline out of bounds where he was it was up.
Kind of talk to me a little bit about what
you saw with Dinkins play down the stretch and what
you guys were doing defensively.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah, I mean, he's a talented scorer. I mean, I
thought we messed up the switch on they actually when
he got the first one in the out of bounds
under you know, it was a little to the opposite side,
and I think we got confused on the switch or not,
and the five man set the fade screen to the
corner and I don't think cav switched it, or he
thought he switched it, and he didn't get out there.
And those were two big possessions because we were kind
of chipping away at it, and you know, I think
(03:03):
the love of averages, you're trying to say, maybe get
a stop, maybe a stop, get back into the one
possession game. They've been in a lot of tight games,
but we just could never maybe get enough stops when
we needed to to get it to one or two possessions.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
When we talk about the categories we're so good and
the sub were talking a top twenty three point shooting
and free throw percentage that wasn't there in this one
only seven of twenty two. You made seventeen threes the
last game. You shoot twenty two in this one. When
when that is not falling, obviously it makes it difficult.
But what does this team maybe need to do to
(03:33):
get guys involved in other ways?
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah, I mean we got to get stops. I mean
we want to get out in transition and put pressure
on I mean, we only made two threes in the
second half. That's been a huge weapon for us. And
then you know this is with this group, like when
it's not going well offensively, like can we dig in
and grind and get stopped? Because as you know, like, hey,
it's fun playing when everybody's scoring, But then when it's
a grind it out, possession by possession line of scrimmage game,
(03:59):
no matter what happened on the offensive end, you've got
to be able to dig in and get stops. And
you know, one of the keys tonight we needed to
match their physicality and size, and you know, I thought
that weird on us. Over forty minutes, we were a
little tired, we were fatigued. You know, their athleticism, their
strength or physicality bothered us. And that's the learning experience
and opportunity for this group.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Well, they'll be able to reset get home in a
couple of games at the Bob Cartmenter Center coming up.
So best of luck in those next two tough one
tonight against Duquane, but we'll be back in Newark in
no time and a chance to get back.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
In the win. Cole yep, Barth, thanks Scott, I thank you.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
That's our head coach. Martin Engles be talking to us
in this one. After Delaware falls eighty to sixty six
on the road against Duque, Delaware falls to five and
four overall on the season. Ducaine two and seven. Now
after a win, after several hard fought losses for them,
they finally get a victory here at home over a
Delaware and you know he said they look fatigue. We
(04:52):
talked about being unorganized a little bit, and when things
are not going well for this team, and you heard
coaching will be a moment ago say it. You know,
when things are going well and everything's flowing, everything goes
well for Delaware and it's fun to be out there
and shooting threes when things are harder. I think right
now Delaware is in need of somebody to get everybody
organized and be a leader out on the floor and
come together. And maybe not I was a little bit
(05:14):
did that as a twenty point score today, but Delaware
was really they were searching for answers that were not
found in the second half. And tip your cap to Duquine.
They made the plays. They were the tougher team, they
fought a little bit harder in the second hand. Chance
for delivery at back in wincom two games in roil
against non Division one opponents coming up, so a chance
for a Delaware to increase their win total when they
(05:37):
get back to Newark. But a tough one tonight against
Dukine eighty to sixty six.
