(00:00):
Man, I'll tell you what. That light that's coming through the windows makes
it look like you're in heaven rightnow. I love it. Dance counting
(00:25):
down the biggest dance songs in thecountry. This is America's Dance thirty.
Christian Galumptis, Welcome back to America'sDance thirty. It's so great seeing you.
Thank you for having me. Thereis so much to congratulate you on.
First of all, congratulations on Lighterwith David Ghett and five Sauce going
(00:47):
number one. I wish everybody onthe podcast could see the dance you're doing.
And congratulations on the brand new albumore Ex and it being the number
one downloaded dance album. Yes,thank you so much. That is happening
(01:10):
so incredible. Now, before wetalk about Lighter, let's talk about this
album. How long have you beenworking on it? Oh, at least
three years, it's been it's beena while. But you know, it's
like I release music all the time, and then some songs, Oh,
this should be a part of thealbum or shouldn't it. Like it's it's
(01:30):
the whole thing where I separate, like some songs to be collaborations and something
that isn't supposed to be on thealbum, and what should be on the
album even if it's released ahead ofthe album. You know, it's a
it's a whole whole thing. Takeus through like the day before and release
day. How nerve racking is itfor you? Is it still nerve racking
(01:53):
even though you've been doing this forso long? Yeah, somewhat. I
feel like it's everyone around me,you know, including you know, my
wife and my kids. They're they'retrying to hype me up even more,
and I try to like be like, hey, it's just another regular day,
you know. But I think that'smy defense, you know, to
not like think about it or something. Right, So I'm like, it's
(02:15):
something about it, you know, when you've been working on something for for
so long, it's I guess it'salso you're a little bit scared of actually
saying goodbye to it, right,And how many times do you make your
wife and kid listen to it beforeyou put it out. I don't know
it's different these days because I onlyplay them stuff when it's brand like new,
(02:38):
like ideas, because then I'm like, I don't want them to like
criticize anything I already decided on soI stop because then I like, I
don't want the downers. When they'relike I don't like the song, I'm
like, it's on Spotify. Yougot to find a new family at that
point, Well we can we reallyquickly talk about one of my favorite songs
(03:01):
on the album, One Cry.I was blown away to see that BB
Rexa had a hand in it aswell. How was this song born?
And I saw your post about itbeing a bumpy ride? Why was it
bumpy? Well, it's it's beenin the works for many, many years
actually, and but it's been it'sbeen a song that I thought was super
(03:22):
important and I love this song somuch. I had without naming names,
but I had a lot of alot of big artists sing this song.
And actually BB's like original vocal. It was so hard to be you know.
There was like big, big actslike like I can't beat this vocal,
like it's like it's it's so good, and it really was. But
(03:45):
Roselin went in and she killed itand she was the one who made the
song possible in the end, becauseI guess couldn't get anyone and BIB was
busy putting out other records or something. So yeah, I'm happy Roselin I
stepped in because she has an amazingvoice. She truly does. The song
is so incredible. Now, there'sso much orchestration in Galantis music. Have
(04:11):
you ever thought about doing like alive show of just stripped down orchestral versions
of your songs? That would beamazing? No, I actually haven't thought
about it that way, So I'mugh it's a good idea. It truly
is, you know. I gotto tell you I saw BT do it
like twenty years ago with his albumand it was amazing, and then of
(04:33):
course Above and Beyond has done itwith their music. Galantis music just lends
to it so well because there's somuch orchestration. Yeah, no, that's
a great idea. I've done itactually once with Mike Snow though, so
I know how much I like that, but I never thought about it for
Galantis. But you're right, Ihave live strings on so many records,
(04:55):
so yeah, that makes sense.Well, I will be the first person
to buy tickets. I'll just letyou know that right now. Let's talk
about your number one lighter. Now. When we were in Miami talking about
(05:15):
it, you shared that you werereally surprised that it actually got finished and
released. What was the journey withDavid Getta and five Sauce on this song,
Well, it actually was not abumpy ride at all. Everyone was
just working on it when they hadtime, and it organically kind of grew
(05:36):
to the next stage and the nextstage without anyone like you know, I
want to go here, I wantto do that, which is usually when
there's like so many you know, chefs and a kitchen and also big acts
like that, they have a busyschedule, you know, like it's hard
to get it to actually go allthe way over the finish line. Also,
(05:59):
well you know someone like de Ghetta, he's working on so many records
all the time. But I feellike it was a good team effort,
you know, it was a truecollaboration, and I got to say five
six this summer when they came in, they started to like, have you
know, give the whole track somenew energy that it needed, you know,
(06:20):
a new angle like can we trythis? Can we try that?
And that gave me more inspiration tojump back and you know like let's push
for this one. So yeah, well it turned out so amazing. Now,
as we've discussed previous chats. Ialways love finding out how many different
v's there are to a song, from when you start working on it,
(06:41):
all the tweaking to when you finallyput it out. Do you remember what
the final v was of Lighter? It's got to be a very high number,
actually, but I bet it's overfifty, that's for sure. Absolutely.
And is it the fiftieth that gotput out as the final or did
you go back versions? No,we went back and you go back and
(07:04):
be like, oh no, thispart was better here, you know,
And that's hard, like, youknow, a lot of people don't want
to ever look back, so butit is important to do that because sometimes
you're not going towards the better, you know, like goal, sometimes it
might have been better two weeks ago. I know's it hurts to say that,
(07:25):
but it might have been can wecheck? You know? Yes,
you know part of the journey.Well, I'm so glad you finally came
down with a version to put outbecause it is such a great song.
Congratulations on it going number one,Thank you so much, Thank you,
and congratulations on the album. Now, how did you come up with the
name RX? Well, the firstalbum was called Pharmacy and you know there's
(07:46):
a story behind that, and thisis kind of to me the follow up
to that album. I know it'sweird to have an album two albums in
between, but yeah, this isthis is a very important album for me.
And the way this album was mademade me feel like the first album
(08:07):
I made, So that's why Icall it RX. Well, congratulations on
it is so amazing. Now wecan cut this out if you want me
to, but I would be remissif I didn't ask. Is Galantis just
Christian now? Yes it is,because when you did liners for me in
Miami, you say I am Galantisnow, and of course all the graphics
(08:28):
are just you and C Fox.Yeah, I know, I know,
I know, I yeah, thatwas a bit of a journey. But
people doesn't realize that the way themusic is made is it's the same way
it has always been. So it'sbeen the live situation that's been the most
in the biggest change. But nowit's been the I don't know, like
a bunch of years. So nowit's tuned in and I feel good about
(08:52):
it. So all good and it'salways incredible not only seeing you live but
also hearing your music. Christian andGalant is Thank you so much for your
time with us on America's Dance thirty. Thank you so much for having me
