Speaker 1 (00:00):
I just got to give you guys a heads up.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Not to start this chat on a bad note, but
I am absolutely exhausted today. I don't know what is
going on, but my body woke me up at four am.
I think, like coming back after a day off for
the holiday, my brain is just not working.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
So I just wanted to give you guys the heads up.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
No worry.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
We just got back from a long week and a
two ing. So yeah, it's not like any of mine
compares to you guys.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
I mean, I don't know how touring DJs do it.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Counting down the biggest dance songs in the country. This
is America's Dance thirty.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
By the way, I also just want to know will
this chat be a guaranteed good time? And Casey Twinsick,
welcome to America's Dance thirty for the first time we're doing.
Congratulations on this incredible smash happy now.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Thank you, Yeah, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
I can't wait to talk about how this was born
and we're going to talk all about the song coming up.
But first, since this is the first time you guys
are on America's Dance thirty, let's get to know twin
Sick A little better with Finky's first Oh Baby. So
(01:36):
I love finding out the origin story of artists.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
When you were growing up.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Was music the first thing that you guys wanted to
get into or was there something else you wanted to
be when you grew up.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
I guess I grew up like playing drums and playing piano,
so music was always kind of something that was like
in the back of my head. But I mean, for
job wise, I don't really think I know what else.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
We'd be doing if we weren't doing this.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Yeah here, So there was no backup plan, no bacco plan.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
I used to do like videography, so that's kind of
led into more like the DJing stuff there, So that
kind of helped out. But I guess that would have
been a backup plan, but I did not want to
do it anymore.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
So well, thank god this worked out for you guys.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Good so far, so good.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, knock on wood, it keeps going for twenty thirty
more years for you guys. When did you guys first meet?
Speaker 3 (02:31):
We met back in like twenty eighteen.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
I was like opening up, like DJing, doing like random gigs,
and we just met after one of the opening gigs
that I had he was doing the video stuff at
the time, and so we were just like became friends
and then we're just like, one day, let's start a
DJ group and then plan behind it.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
We kind of just were like, oh this no plan.
We thought of the name all on the same day.
We're like, let's just run with it. Let's see where
it goes.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yeah, and you guys formed twin Sick in twenty nineteen, right.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Yeah, yep, so we probably knew each other about like
six months, you know, just kicking it, talking about music,
just hanging out, and then thought of the name, like
you said, and then ever since then just posted on
social media, created all the accounts and everything, and then
now here we are.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Well speaking of all that. I mean, you formed it
right before the world shut down? What was that like,
you know, deciding to do this and then all of
a sudden, boom, everything's done.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Yeah, we were like, uh so going it was like
spring twenty twenty. We were like pulling every string we
could with like any college friend. We had to just
get any college show, booking anything we could play, and
we played I think like five shows maybe before everything happened,
and then after that it was like obviously knew what
was going on, so we just kind of took a
step back and then use that as time to just
(03:51):
work on the project and build music and kind of
get like a better vision for everything.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
So God, I couldn't even imagine that, like getting set
and ready and like a rocket starting everything going, and
then all of a sudden you gotta like stop.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
I remember we were like on spring break, like doing
some like random gigs, and then all of a sudden,
it was like, oh wait, we gotta go home, Like
this is like serious.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Now?
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Did you did I see somewhere that you guys were
living in Tampa?
Speaker 5 (04:21):
Yeah, we we did Tampa about a year ago for
like the winter. We're originally from Minnesota, so we did
Tampa for six months whatever just to try.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
It out, and we loved it.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
And now we're out in LA so we're loving it
here as well.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Well.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
I'd love to say that it was awesome having you guys,
but we're full here, so I'm glad you left. Now,
when you guys were trying to decide on an artist
project name, was Twin Sick the first name you guys
came up with, or were there other names you were considering?
Speaker 5 (04:53):
There is no, like there was the other name I
was I thinking. It was like, let's just do Alex
and Casey at one point, and then we're like so boring,
and then we got the name like Minnesota is the
Minnesota Twins the twin cities.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
So I have the name like twins written down.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
And then one of our other friends was like, why
don't we try and find a word that starts with S?
Speaker 3 (05:13):
And then we were looking through like really like going
down like shick.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Well that's tight like that, it's easy to remember.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Let's just do it.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
It's definitely an epic name. So I'm glad you came
up with it.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
You know.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
It's funny because it's like when you make them, you
never know like well to end up or anything.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
So it's like finally like looking back, like all what
you could have been.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
That's so true.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Like when I was trying to decide on the name
for the Countdown, this was I want to say, like
eight years ago.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Maybe God, I.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Can't believe it's been that long. But I was talking
with my friend about it. I'm like, what do you
think of America's Dan's thirty. He's like, eh, I don't
really like it, and I decided to go with it.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
And now I mean, I love the name of the countdown.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Now I saw the video that you guys posted wrapping
up your epic twenty twenty four. You played Lollapalooza, you
did your first ever show or headlining show in Vegas,
and then is it true that you did a show
for nobody?
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Was that slide real?
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yeah? I forgot we posted that.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
What was that?
Speaker 4 (06:18):
That was like like a school like a school sponsored.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Like oh, I don't know, like it was like a
like a job I don't I don't know what it was.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
It was something towards the end of semester and it
was like a school event. But I think the kids
like partied too hard the night before, going to party
after that, and like we were just smack in the
middle of the day and there were like job.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Fair tents like surrounding the thing. It was like kind
of fun.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
Yeah, there were some families and stuff like before rate
when we got there, and then when we went on,
everyone kind of.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Well, ladies are doing shows that ground you.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
It was humbling.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
It was great.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
It was fun for us. We got to play kind
of whatever we wanted.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Yeah, that is hilarious.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Now, speaking of all those shows, do you remember the
first show you ever played?
Speaker 5 (07:10):
Oh damn yeah, it would have been at the Rooftop
in Minneapolis.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Yeah, yeah, it was so it was our hometown.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
We like, well, first off, I would like I had
a headline, and then I would be like, case you
want to open, and then it'd be like want to
go back to backs?
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Like we didn't really know, and then we announced twin sick.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
Yeah, and it was like that was like all of
our friends came together and just like it.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Was honestly it was. It was pretty good.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
It was a smash like between all of our friends
and like family that came out.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
It was like awesome. It was very thrown together. Like
I'm pretty sure we're playing on like a folding table
or something.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
That's awesome to at least play for all your friends.
So it really doesn't matter what you play at that point.
It's a good way to start exactly.
Speaker 5 (07:52):
Yeah, we like to think we knew what we were doing,
but we have a friend group that's been like supporting
us since we started, and I feel like that is
a strong part of why everything's been starting to work.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Out the way it has. So it's unfortunate that way.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
And are they the third member of Twin Sick?
Speaker 4 (08:08):
They all want, bro the amount of times I can
get like text from our boys, I like want to
go onto kind of be the third.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
They always said Triple Sick, Triple Sick.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Yeah, that's too awesome.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Now do you remember the first time hearing one of
your songs on the radio?
Speaker 5 (08:35):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Good question. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
I want to say it was like a remix, but
I don't remember that too well. I think it was
about a year ago.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
We it was been We did a drive to California.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
We did a song called California Baby, and we did
like I remember, we woke up in Vegas after a
night out and had to record like the radio liners,
and we were just messing it up every time. We
were just like literally like yeah, like we could not
get it done and we were so frustrated. And then
like a week later, we heard it on the radio
and like heard our voices and were like, whoa, that's
(09:07):
pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah, like it came out pretty well so far. That
was a cool moment.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
That's so awesome.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Now do you remember the first dance song that made
you guys fall in love with ed M?
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Mine was. I mean, i'd say the I think the
Skrillics remix of Levels that was like, it's like, what
are these crazy noises? This is insane.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
It's so funny you say that, because everybody that mentioned
Skrillics literally that's the thing that comes out of their
mouth is what are these noises?
Speaker 5 (09:40):
I just like all like the Calvin Harris and David
Ghetto that was on the radio back in the day.
That was just like, looking back at it, you didn't
know it was going to be so iconic. So that
was kind of I would say, that's my first.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Intro and looking back, just such nostalgia at that time.
I mean, the songs were just so incredible. Well, finally,
in thinking first in honor of happy, now, what's the
first thing that makes you happy?
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Damn good?
Speaker 4 (10:06):
I'd say touring honestly, Yeah, touring is like when we're
the happiest is on the road.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Just like playing shows for everyone.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
And like getting to see the energy that our music
brings to the rooms and like sharing that moment with
like the fans and stuff is just it's not there's
nothing like it, which is amazing.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
I don't play, obviously, but I have stepped out on stage,
hosting main stage and just the feeling of being with
the crowd and them reacting to everything.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
I completely agree, there's nothing like it.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
Nothing like it.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Let's talk about this smash. How was Happy Now born
like two years ago?
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Yeah, it was a while.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
It was like a really old demo we got and
we're kind of just sitting on it for a while
and like wanted to see kind of how the sound
was going to progress with it, and then finally we
were just kind of like, Okay, this kind of stutter
house kind of vibe is really in right now. So
we wanted to get something out that we thought that
like a twin siic sound could blend with it.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
So we thought that was kind of the perfect fit
for it.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
And it's such a great vocal.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Yeah, the vocals super catchy, and so we were dialing
in the production on it for like two years, I guess.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Because we wanted to match the same energy on that.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Vocal and talking about dealing with mastering it for that long.
You know. I always love finding out how many different
versions there are of a song, from when you start
working on it, all the tweaking that goes on to
when you finally put it out. Do you remember what
the final V was of Happy Now?
Speaker 4 (11:36):
I look it was probably Yeah, I know, we kind
of had like the core idea for a while.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
But there's I mean, there's probably these we're in our
dropbox right now.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
People.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Yeah, I love it.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
We'll get like a version that we like, and then
we'll send it out to like the whole team and
they'll be like, we need to.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Change this, God, and then you end up going back
to like V three. Now, when you're sitting on a
demo for that long, do you have to change the
style because obviously you know, styles in em changed so frequently.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Yeah, that one specifically, I know I changed the drums
like three times, just because I think drums are like
kind of the most like you got to stay up
to up to time with the drums, Like sins and
keys and stuff are always kind of a similar. But like,
you know, you got the Fred again trends that are
coming in that he has very like crisp drums, So
you got to match that same energy with with stuff
(12:34):
that you're putting out.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Gotcha.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Well, congratulations on finishing it and putting it out. It
is such a smash. Congratulations on the song. What's next
in twenty twenty five for twin Sick.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
We were announcing a huge tour.
Speaker 5 (12:48):
Actually this week will be announced, so by the time
you're hearing this, it'll be out.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
It's a bus tour and our first ever bus tour.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
As every hell.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
We're in for a ride.
Speaker 5 (12:59):
On that one.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Literally, have you guys ever dealt with a bus tour?
But I know you haven't been on one. Oh my god.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
This started out we wanted to just get like an
RV and like do it ourselves right, and like our
team came back and they're just like it's not safe,
like you need to have professional driver all this, So
like it was all the.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Fun, but I mean, obviously this is gonna be unreal.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
So we're we're getting a tour bus and we're starting
in Pennsylvania Stay as the starting We.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Wanted to start out just because we came from like
college background doing like a bunch of frat parties doing
college bars, so we wanted to start the tour with
like a iconic college bar. So we're gonna be at
Champs penn State first and then we're gonna make our
way down the.
Speaker 5 (13:44):
Coast Carolina's Atlanta, Florida, over to Texas and then Arizona
and ending it off in Vegas to like kind of
kick off our twenty twenty five residencies.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
And leading into it. How do you prepare yourselves for
a bus tour?
Speaker 4 (14:06):
We asked our manager the other day. We're like, hey,
is there like anything we need to do for this?
He's like, no, you just wake up, pack your bag
and treat it like a normal tour. Yeah, you can't
prepare for a bus too at all.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Good luck with that. I can't wait to talk to
you guys after it.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Along with that, lots of new music. We're going to
keep going with the remixes. The remixes have been fun.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
We've been posting nose on social media and they've been
going crazy, So they're.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Just kind of fun.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
Just whenever you hear a song that gives you an idea,
just kind of going with that.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
It's gonna be a big year. We're excited. Lots of festivals.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
It's going to be the year of Twin Sick.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Well, I can't wait to see everything that happens for
you guys this year. Twin Sick, Thank you so much
for your time with us on America's Dance thirty.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
Yes, thanks for having us. There's an awesome time.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
Dancer counting down the biggest dance songs in the country
