(00:00):
What a guy. Rick Flair strangestrange times for him, styling, profiling,
Rolex, wearing, limousine, riding, jet flying. I don't remember
the whole thing. Alcohol drinking,No, it's not part of it.
Yeah, it's a good guy.Uh one heck of a wrestler. Four
(00:22):
thirty eight. We'll get to ourFriday four, which is wrestling related.
Right now, it is your fourfavorite professional wrestlers. It's pretty easy,
right I told you this, Uh, WrestleMania. I'm very excited about two
nights WrestleMania Tomorrow and Sunday, andthis is all time, all time favorite
(00:42):
professional wrestlers. Do you have yourlist finalized? Sir? Finalized is an
interesting word because I am still hamminand han over the details. But if
you gotta do it, you gottado it so well. You're on the
spot, fire away. I gotfour in front of me. Let's go
first. Is it's uh hard tobeat how cool this guy was? And
(01:03):
I know that there's a lot ofcool people on this list to choose from,
but Ray Mysterio Junior, what aunique talent it did. The way
he would fly around the ropes andhad so many cool moves. He wore
the mask. Everything about Ray MysterioJunior. Whenever he was going to wrestle,
(01:26):
my brothers and I that was appointmentviewing. You know. If we
heard he was gonna come on laterand wrestle, we were sitting around waiting
for it. That's probably everyone onthis list means that, you know,
Yeah, but this guy if yougo back to like wc W back in
the nineties. Yeah, not toget into the weeds for my non wrestling
fans, but this guy changed howwe viewed wrestling. I mean, he
(01:48):
took high flyer to complete a completelydifferent place, bringing really that Mexican luchador
style to mainstream masses and it's stillactive to this day. Just five foot
six and his son is wrestling nowtoo. His name is Dominic Mysterio and
Dominic is a bad guy and it'sbeen fantastic on television. He's in a
stable called the Judgment Day and they'llbe doing all sorts of stuff throughout WrestleMania
(02:13):
for sure. So there's one next, So there's one next. One.
Another one that kind of has tobe on my list, even though I
did root against him at times,is the Giant, like not Andre the
Giant, but that's like the BigShow. Yeah, the Big Show is
what he was known of. Buthe was called the Giant when I watched
on WCW. Yeah, I wasa WCW guy me too. I wasn't
(02:38):
at first. I have a lotof great memories of the World Wrestling Federation.
But then on a lot of thoseguys migrated over to WCW in the
mid nineties. That that got myfamily's attention. My mom my, grandma,
we wanted to watch those guys.Yeah, okay, so the Giant,
the Big Show. I mean, there's another very unique athlete, right
(03:00):
the choke slam. Got to tunein for the chokeslam and he would he
would do with the choke slam inthe air first, Yeah, it suspend
him there anah, and then youwould fall on your back. I can
still remember the moment when he waskind of on the undercard. Out came
Disco Inferno running around. Who's hegonna match up with? Skoal Fee.
(03:23):
Yeah, he's doing his moves, the music's playing. You're like, okay,
all right, this is this isa unique wrestler here, and then
out comes the Giant and you're justlike, oh, come on, yeah,
it is. And of course hechoke slammed him and he was,
you know, just seeing disco Infernojust like flailing around and the giant holds
him like at twelve feet. Idon't care what anybody said. I like
(03:45):
Disco Inferno. I did too.He he almost made my list. He
was. It was fun, hewas. He was a very fun wrestler.
All right, what do you got? Uh? The third one?
Macho man, Randy Savage? Howdo you how do you not? Yeah,
he's he's big time and more onthat, more on him later.
We'll say save that because I havea feeling we'll be talking about him again
(04:06):
very shortly. Yes, okay. And then four to round it out.
This is tough. I had toreally, you know, make some chopping
here. But I'm gonna go withthe nature boy. Whoo whoooo Rick Flair
Figure four leg lock. He hadthat shock of blonde hair. What a
move that fig got it out there. It's just something about him where it
(04:28):
was like he had his he therewas gimmicks to him, but there was
a sort of like and he wasthe nature boy. He was a pro.
Yeah that's a professional wrestler. Yeah, he's he almost seemed a little
bit bigger than than than the sportat time. He would have carry the
way he carried the title sometimes, the way that he would do his strut,
the face bumps. I mean,he's a great athlete, too,
(04:48):
underrated athlete. You go back andwatch him with his great matches from the
eighties and nineties. Uh yeah,no, absolutely, yeah. That's a
good list. So so round itout again. What is it? Van
Nash, Hulk Cogan close close onthe list too. But those are my
four Raymisterio Junior, the Giant,Macho Man Randy Savage, and the nature
(05:08):
boy Rick Flair. All Right,I'm gonna start. Let's just go ahead
and get the macho man out ofthe way. Okay, Macho Man Randy
Savage is on my list. MountRushmore guy. Okay, Macho Man Randy
Savage. If you watch his oldstuff in the eighties, when he first
arrives in the WWF, he's justa great athlete. You just can't take
(05:30):
your eyes off the guy. Theway that he moves, his footwork,
his hair, his the robes thathe would come out to the ring with
the flying elbow drop, which isstill one of the great moves ever.
I mean his was just beautiful. And then of course you have the character
when you start cutting a promo likego find some Randy Savage promos on the
(05:51):
cream of the Crop, I meanthat one. And then if you watch
closely, he's like producing these creams, like coffee creams out of like his
like a magician would. Yeah,it's just like coming out of his wrist,
out of his ear and all thisstuff. Like you think he's he's
dropping them, and then he justhope there's another one. The man was
incredible. I love macho Man RandySavage. When he got the WCW,
(06:14):
things started getting a little weird, who knows what the heck was going on.
Then obviously he died at a youngage before he could come back and
be welcomed back with open arms toWWE and maybe get in the Hall of
Fame. He's in the Hall ofFame now, presumas the POSTU posthumously.
Yeah, so macho Man Randy Savage. Brett the hitman Heart, there's another
(06:41):
guy, Bret Hart. Did BrettHart have a bad match? If you
like watching wrestling, Brett Hart madeyou really get invested in the story.
I mean, he could take abeating and still come out. You want
to talk about great maneuvers. Thesharpshooter, remember the sharp sh It's like
a scorpion deathlock. That dude,Brett the hem man heart, big fan.
(07:09):
And you know what, what's thebest thing that what's the best compliment
that somebody could give you? It'syour peers telling like saying, or people
in your industry saying you're their favorite. So many of the great say Brett
Hart is either their favorite or ahuge influence on them. And I don't
know if you can do better thanthat, right, That's what I want.
(07:29):
I want people in the radio businessto talk about how much they admire
what I do. There's no biggercompliment, and Brett Hart has that.
I'm gonna go with Chris Jericho.Okay, I like Chris Jericho a lot.
His work with all Elite wrestling inrecent years is kind of you know,
he's kind of getting up there inage in his fifties now, and
it's not as good as it waswhen he was in a young tyke in
(07:51):
WCW. Remember those He was greatin WCW. He was great in the
World Wrestling Federation and then WWE reallygood stuff that he would do, good
character work, awesome wrestler, likejust a good athlete. A big fan
of Chris Jericho. And he's writtensome good books too. His book's really
interesting. Put on some good musicas well with Fozzy. Yeah, he
was an the lead singer for Fozzy, a hard rocking band. And then
(08:16):
finally I'm gonna go with Scott Hallslash Razor Ramone, a guy who oozed
machismo. Super cool, like thetheme music we played earlier in the show,
the way he'd walk to the ringnice and slow, the way he
would talk, and he was abigger guy, but he would do all
sorts of really really good powerful movesin the ring, and as a kid,
(08:37):
you were just like, man, that's the coolest guy. He's just
so cool. So that's my fourmacho man Randy Savage, Brett Hart,
Chris Jericho, and then Scott HallSlash Razor Ramone. If you got four
wrestlers you want to talk about, because it's WrestleMania weekend, you can go
ahead and fire away an email tome Emory at kfab dot com. It's
Emory at kfab dot com, oryou can call us right now to talk
(08:58):
Wrestlers two five five eight eleven ten. Four oh two five five eight eleven
ten is the phone number, andwe'd love to talk to you about it.
The emails are already rolling in.Can't wait to talk more about it.
On news Radio eleven ten, kfabEmrie Sung on news Radio eleven ten,
kfab Colin. You got a Fridayfour for us. You got the
Undertaker, the Ultimate Warrior, Oh, Roddy Roddy Piper, Wow, Macho
(09:24):
Man, Randy Savage, and thenwe're gonna put Chris Jericho as the runner
up just because little side note.I used to work at Hurtz rent a
Car at Eppley Airfield and he wouldcome through anytime they'd come to om All.
He was the nicest dude ever,Like he'd sit and talk with you
and just shoot the crap with you. He was just really cool. Yeah
yeah, Okay, So that's that'smy Mount Rushmore. Okay, so your
(09:46):
Mount Rushmore is just star studded onmultiple levels with all sorts of different great
people in there. The thing aboutJericho and I mentioned him, he made
my list too. I met himonce as well. I actually went to
a Fas concert and then bought theVIP so I could go backstage and meet
them before the show. And it'skind of crazy because you don't expect somebody
(10:09):
to be so approachable that has thekind of fame that he would have,
but he was. He was justthe cool He really was the coolest guy
to talk to. Yeah, hewas just a genuinely nice person and it
was kind of it, kind ofshocking. I also met the Undertaker because
I Doulton did security there before thegovernment took over. But the Undertaker was
also a very very nice person.Well, in the ring, it was
(10:33):
a little bit different. He wantedto say, Well, of course he
had to be. He was theTaker, you know it. Man,
appreciate the call man, Yeah, man, you do a great job.
By the way, I appreciate yourshow. Thanks a lot. Thank you
appreciate that too. A lot ofemails coming in, people wanting to talk
about wrestlers. All right, jacsays, in no particular order, how
(10:54):
about this for a list, MattStone, Cold, Steve Austin, the
Undertaker, the rock in Mankind orMick Foley. Wow, solid, that's
the attitude era, Just like maam, just like that. Chris emails in
and it's a pretty good list aswell. He's got Mick Foley, the
(11:16):
Undertaker, Macho Man, Randy Savage, and hul Cogan who you know,
if we were ranking them, likeif we made a true Mount rushmore of
what professional wrestling is. He's kindof he's got to be on there,
doesn't he. Yeah, see,he may not be our favorite, but
he's got to be on there.I don't see how you leave him off
(11:37):
just for he changed the size ofthe sport. He made it mainstream.
Yeah, like him and Vince McMahontogether made it mainstream. And then I
think Flair's got to be involved inthe Mount Rushmore of it, at least
modern for wrestling. Flair is isit Austin in the Rock or the other
(12:01):
two? Or or do you dojust one of those guys and then maybe
like fit like a Shawn Michaels oran Undertaker on there. Oh boy,
it's interesting. I gotta think aboutthat. Well, that's not what we're
doing here. We're not talking aboutthe like definitive Mount Rushmore professional wrestling.
We're talking about your favorite professional wrestlers. And the emails are rolling in and
(12:24):
I want to talk to you too, if you want to call in with
your favorite pro wrestlers on this eveof WrestleMania. You can at four oh
two five five eight eleven ten.Four oh two five five eight eleven ten.
And we've got more to read, more to talk about if you want
to call us talk to us aboutthis. Got plenty more on the way.
We're having fun on a Friday,Emory Songer with my producer, Matt
(12:46):
Case and we roll along merrily hereon news Radio eleven ten KFAB. Emory
song on news Radio k f AB. Matt remind people what your list was.
(13:09):
My my list, my mount Rushmoreof wrestlers is very w CW heavy
because that's what I watched as akid. Ray Maistereo Junior. Nothing like
seeing him come off the ropes, flip around and do all his wild acrobatic
moves. It was just fascinating towatch. He was so cool. And
then the opposite of Raymysterio Junr. The Giant, also known as the Big
(13:31):
Show. The Big Show. Yeah, just a giant, enormous human who
would choke slam any opponent who gotclose enough to him in the ring.
And of course I gotta go withprobably somebody who makes the ultimate arguable but
maybe makes the ultimate mount Rushmore,Randy Macho Man Savage. Macho Man,
Randy Savage, you want to saythat? And then finally Rick Flair,
(13:56):
I have Macho Man Randy Savage aswell. I also have Brett the Hitman
Heart Chris Jericho, and then RazorRamone or Scott Hall and and that's my
four. We want to hear four. And we're having fun talking about this.
And let's go back to the phones. Four h two, five,
five, eight to eleven ten.Tom's on the line, Tom, Welcome
to the show today. We're havingfun on a Friday. What do you
(14:16):
got for me? All right,we're going old school here. We got
Andre the Giant ooh, the otherGiant. Ivan Petski is a Polish hammer.
Jesse Ventura, oh yeah, andhul Cogan. Jesse Ventura. You
know, I as a kid,you know, he was pretty much done
(14:37):
wrestling by the time that I startedwatching. But as an announcer, you
go back and watch some of thelike wrestling that he announced. He was
an amazing announcer. Yeah, Isee all these guys. There are a
lot of these guys, you know, it's their personality that kind of draws
you in and I mean, youknow, aside from there, yeah,
well wrestling skills. Yeah, andthen Jesse Ventura rode that charisma and personality
(15:00):
all the way to being the governorof Minnesota. So I mean, yeah,
that's kind of weird, though veryweird. Tom, appreciate your list.
Thanks for calling in, all right, thank you. Anybody else want
to call in you can four ortwo, five, five eight to eleven
ten. Four oh two five, five eight to eleven ten. Here's some
lists that we had coming in here. We had co Macho Man, Randy
(15:20):
Savage, the Undertaker, the JunkyardDog, the jyd Oh yeah, that
guy was fun. And then thetag team of Jim Knighthart and Brett Hart.
The Heart Foundation loved that. Jasonsaid, mad Dog Vashon, Mad
Dog Vashon, Mad Dog Vashon andOmaha's own mad Dog Vashon. And I
(15:41):
don't know how Matt Rushmore works.Did you do mad Dog Vashon like on
all uh on all four spots oror is that frowned upon feels a little
frowned upon territory? Yeah, butsince he's from Omaha, we'll allow it,
all right, fair enough. Dan'son a phone line of four h
two, five five, eight eleventen, Dan, what do you got
for for me? Uh? Baronthe call master? Oh yeah, scrap
(16:07):
Iron McLeod. Wow, that's aname, cowboy yep. And I think
you went pretty local there, didn'tyou. Bob. I love that,
Dan, I love that. Hey, Uh, while you're here, obviously,
like you know Omaha, you knowhow wrestling? And does Omaha claims
Sting again? Does Omaha claims Stingclaim I don't know who that is?
(16:37):
Sting, like the Stinger Sting, like the guy who musician? Well know
that, Well there's a musician Sting. But there's a thing. Okay,
Well never mind, Dan, I'llask somebody else appreciate the call. Uh
there's the big guy, you know, Sting, I said, Sting.
You know I'm talking. Well,Dan didn't know Sting? What you know?
(17:00):
Where you know where Sting was born? It's Omaha, will riddle me
this, riddle me that. Butobviously he was booked from Venice Beach when
he was growing up and coming throughthe business because he had that surfer look
that that was his gimmick. Butthen when he was the crow, I
don't even know where they build himfrom. Did he spend any time in
Omahama sides just being born here.I don't know. Somebody out there helped
(17:25):
me out with that. Kurt's onthe phone line four O two five five
eight eleven ten. Kurt, whatdo you got for me? I've got
some of the old Omaha ones aswell, like Mad Dog Bashan and Jim
got Dagny. But the other twothat I would have to throw in there
would be the Ultimate Warrior, okay, and the Iron Chic. Oh,
(17:47):
the Iron Chic Man. What acharacter that guy was, even on social
media. He kept it going untilthe very end. Yes he did.
He was somebody that you just loved. And you know what he made Hogan.
I mean, Hogan won his firstchampionship World Championship by beating the Iron
Chic, So he's got a placein history forever. All right, Kurt,
(18:08):
appreciate you the call in. That'sa good list. Thank you,
thanks to Ray. Ray's on ourphone line four O two five five eight
eleven ten. Ray, you gota Friday four for me? Yes,
sir, I got Randy Namacho ManSavage good one. I got the Undertaker
of course, and then we're gonnago very old school. Oh I got
(18:33):
the American Dream Dusta Rode his sonin the big main event of WrestleMania both
Night one and Night two this weekend, by the way, and I have
the superstar Kimigram, Superstar Billy Graham. That guy's arms were gigantic. I
mean yeah, I mean that thatwe're talking nineteen seventy eight or so.
(18:57):
He was the champion and man,his arms pythons? What those were?
All right? Ray Love that appreciateyou calling in. Yeah, all right,
we are going to continue and rollthis on. I want everybody to
call in with their Friday for weare celebrating wrestling. We're having fun with
it. A ton of emails arecoming in or do the best we can
(19:18):
to get to all those two andyou can even call us and talk to
us about your list. Two four, two, five, five, eight
eleven ten on news radio eleven ten, kfab Relax, Emory Sona will be
right back. As seen as Ifinished talking on news radio eleven ten,
kfab Rick, you're on the phoneline with Emery on news radio eleven ten,
kfab Hey, amboy, I wondered, I'm an old school guy,
(19:44):
so you have to include in OmarBaron bun Raskeith in Omaha's school Teacher.
You have to include mad Dog forSean. Sure, you would have to
include the old chair, a tallthings of some of the bob Ellis and
Tarsan Tyler. But it was Ithink Dusty Rhodes that was the big influence
(20:11):
for Omaha for sure. Awesome.Well, like I said, Dusty's going
to be relevant this weekend because hisson Cody is in the main event both
nights at WrestleMania and in fact goingfor the title on Sunday nights. So
something to keep in mind. Rick, appreciate you dropping the knowledge Omaha style
for us. Thank you. It'sgoing to Andy. Andy, You're with
Emry on news Radio eleven teen kfabOoh, let's get some of this.
(20:40):
Let's get some of this old stuffout of the way. Let's get some
of these new guys out of theway. Let's talk attitude era. Yeah.
Number four has to be what Stollcalled Steve Austin for the impact that
he had on the industry back inthe nineteen nineties. That's the only reason
you put stone Cold on number four. Number three. It's true, Oh,
(21:02):
it's true. Kurt Angle is thenumber three greatest wrestler of all time.
Number two is why two Jay,Chris jaredgot Yeah, Chris Jericho.
I gotta agree with you on thatone. And the number one pro wrestler
of all time is the twenty fourtime, not sixteen times because he did
a tour in Japan. Twenty fourtimes World heavyweight Champion, who Rick the
(21:27):
nature boy Flair? That's the topfour right there. That is you and
I discussed this once upon a time, back to the old Nebraska Balloon and
Wine Festival. And it's good tohear that you're still a Chris Jericho fan.
Yes, sir, Hey, youknow what, Andy, This is
the thing, though, Man,I reserve the right to change this list
(21:48):
based on how I feel on aday to day basis, because there's just
too many guys. True too, you're a true pro wrestling fan then yeah,
for sure. Hey, man, let's catch up sometime. Enjoy you
calling in you bet, thanks buddy. All right, let's go to John.
John, appreciate you calling and beinga part of our show today.
John, What do you got forme? Yeah? Can you hear me?
Yes, sir, Yeah, Hey, I've got a little information on
(22:14):
you. Wanted about staying in hisOmaha roots. Yeah. Yeah, I
worked with his uncle, Lloyd Farrisfor twenty some years. It's Vickers in
Omaha and Lloyd Farris. His bookname was Popeye. He was an un
uh uh. The thing was hisnephew from his sister. That was his
sister's boy. They grew up inOmaha, Okay. And then Lloyd Ferris
(22:37):
was a four times state champion tooin wrestling. Oh nice, So you've
got another I've got another one.Do you know who? Uh? You
know, Baron von Rasky right fromOmaha, North Yeah, there's another three
times state champion right now. Whois his great grandson on his mother's side
is Tyson Perry. Wow, that'sa little bit more for you guys.
(23:02):
No, that's that's awesome. John. I appreciate you calling in giving us
some of that info because you lookup staying you see that he's from Omaha,
Nebraska. They just never build usfrom Omaha. Oh. Yeah,
he was his uncle. I've knownhis uncle's path was a wonderful man,
and uh saying, you know,he still kept and visited him and he
used to come back to Omaha, you know, with his mother and his
(23:25):
uncle. They were all from thisarea. So that's pretty cool. Appreciate
the call, John, thanks forhaving usaid info. It's bad. I
have a great night, fellas.Yeah you too, you too. Ben's
on our phone line of four Otwo five, five, eight eleven ten.
Ben, you got a Friday fourfor me. Yeah. Some of
them are back to the old schoolagain. But uh and they may have
been mentioned, but Dick the Bruiser, okay, the Crusher okay, doctor
(23:52):
h Oh, Matt Matt Dog andthen also mentioned Don Leo, Jonathan.
Oh, but I gotta tell youthere's something that you gotta do if you're
gonna talk wrestling, Okay, yougotta look up Ray Stevens is the Ballad
of the Blue Cyclone. Okay,Ray Stevens, Ray Stevens, Ballad of
(24:18):
the Blue Cyclone. Ballad of theBlue Cyclone. All right, well,
well we'll lock that in. We'lldo the best that we can to try
to get that on here. We'llfull figure it out. But I appreciate
you calling in, man, youlove it. I love it, all
right, I'll check it out thetwo part teams. All right, all
right, thank you so much.Appreciate you calling in to Max max Is
on our phone line of four two, five, five, eight eleven ten,
(24:38):
Max, thanks for calling in.What do you got? Yeah?
I two of them I've heard otherpeople say. One, of course,
is the nature boy Rick Flair,oh yeah, and uh Ronnie Piper.
Those two are most mostly for thepromos, even though they were fairly good
in the ring. The other oneis sort of I haven't heard if anyone
(25:00):
said it. That would come fromthe other too. The Road Warriors talking
animal their earlier years, not whenthey went to New York. Yeah,
no, I will say this.Nobody said those But I know a guy
that I worked with in a coupleof jobs ago, and he had every
piece of Road Warriors merchandise ever.I mean, this guy was obsessed with
(25:21):
those dudes. And they were legit. I mean, you want to talk
about a tag team, they werebuilt. I loved the shoulder pads with
the spikes and the face pain andthe hair. They are a legit,
legendary tag team, that's for sure. Max. Appreciate you calling him in.
Thank you have a good you too. We'll continue this conversation as we
roll along, and we'll also makeour picks for the final four, both
men's and women's coming up in thelast half hour of the show. If
(25:45):
you want to call in with yourfavorite wrestlers, you can at four h
two five five eight to eleven ten. We roll on on news Radio eleven
ten. Kfab Emery songa on newsRadio eleven ten. OK. Fab.
Let's go back to the phone linesat four oh two, five five eight
eleven ten. Four oh two fiveto five eight eleven ten is the phone
number and the Friday four your favoriteprofessional wrestlers. Let's start with Sam,
(26:10):
Sam, thanks for calling in.What do you got Hey? I got
more of a modern list for you. I know some of the listeners are
a bit older, but this willbe my modern four. First of all,
Oh, may he rest in peace. Bray Wyatt, Yes for sure.
Second, just an absolute banger ofa character. Second's gonna be Adam
cole Bebe. He's hurt right now, but man can he perform? Yeah,
(26:33):
big fan of his. Two.Third is gonna be your tribal chief
and mine Roman reigns. He's gonnadefend this weekend. He's walking in champ
He's walking out Champs. Oh,it gonna be just like last year.
Oh no, Sam, come on, there's no way, There's no way
Tony doesn't beat him this time.I could give you my fantasy booking right
(26:55):
now with Cody winning and then DamianPriest cashes in. I think that would
be the biggest pop in the world. Just imagine Cody fireworks and then the
lights go out, Dame Cash isin, and then he's champed. That's
my fantasy booking. I think thatwould the audience would hate it, but
that would go down in WrestleMania history. Yeah, but I say, let's
(27:17):
just let's not reinvent the wheel here. Let's give the man his moment.
You know he can have it.You know, he's definitely earned it.
But man, if you want topop like no other, I think that's
how you get one. All right, Well, a right, what else
you got for me? And thenthe last one is gonna be l a
night here. Yeah, he's amodern day rock People say that, but
(27:37):
I think he's taking it a stepfurther. His feud with AJ right now
is pretty good, and he's justa really innovative guy. Yeah. No,
I'm a big fan of his too. Him and AJ got AJ Styles
gotten a scrum, like a physicalfight at the media day today to help
build this match. It's gonna bereally good. I don't think many people
are paying close attention until now.I'm excited for it watching both those guys
(28:00):
work. Sam, appreciate the list, appreciate you listening to our show.
Thanks for calling in. Thank youhaving go with you too. Tom's on
the line. Tom, thank youso much for being part of our show
as well. What do you gotfor me? Yeah, hey, thanks.
Well, you know, I'm prettyold and I remember the old days
of the AWA out of the TwinCities, and for the longest time,
(28:21):
the big rivalry for the championship wasalways between Vern Ganya and Nick Bockwinkle,
and boy, that was quite therivalry over the years. Dick Bockwinkle is
really very Rick Flair esque. Ifyou watch him work and you watch him
talk, he deserves a lot morerespect, I think, Yeah, definitely.
And you know, that was reallybefore the days where the wrestlers were
(28:42):
big weightlifters and bodybuilders. And inthe later years that's when you started to
see like Jesse Ventura and Hulk Hogan, Matt Doug Mashan and actually in their
early years, was that Baron vonRoss that somebody had mentioned earlier? Yeah,
for sure, for some great somegreat days. Tom, appreciate you
(29:04):
coming in Man, thanks for sharingyour memories with us. Yeah, manks.
Let's go to John John, thankyou for being on our show today.
You're with Emory on news Radio eleventen KFAB Hey Emory, how you
doing. I'm good Man, what'sup? Good? Hey? Uh.
I don't know if anybody mentioned itthat in the old old days when we
first moved to Omaha, I waslike thirteen years old, so that's more
(29:27):
than a couple of weeks. Butthey did wrestling in the basement of k
E TV and they were that's wherethe weekly match was and it was on
the it would show up on TVon Sunday morning. That's awesome. But
anyway, my four are Nobody saidHacksaw Jim Duggan. Oh. And my
(29:52):
other question was who were the twoguys from Australia that would go out and
stomp on the ground. Those weremy wife was those the bushwhackers? Yes,
those are my wife's favorites and shehated wrestling. So we had a
(30:12):
chance to go down to Omaha anduh watched one of the big matches and
Andrea was there, so we boughther an Andrea t shirt and on the
on the name tag it said Andresize. On the front was his handprint.
On the back was his footprint. That was the merchandise that they were
(30:37):
selling for Andre the Giant the oldday. Wow, that's awesome. It
was. She wore that for yearsand she hated wrestling, but she did
wear that shirt. Love it.So that was her night shirt actually,
so it was it was all cool, but we took the boys down.
They turned that match into four differentepisodes. Uh down. That was down
(31:00):
at the Civic Auditorium many many yearsago. Love that well, yeah,
jeh And if anybody got hitting aheadwith an Oreo, it wasn't us.
John. I appreciate you calling inman. That's good stuff. Yeah,
take care of the show. Thanks, man, appreciate it. Let's go
to Pat Pat's on our phone lineof four h two five, five,
eight eleven ten, Pat, whatdo you got for me? Hey?
(31:22):
Sep be forgetting the greatest ones ofall? How about Brunos San Martino?
Oh Bruno, Yeah, that guy, he was like champion for like eight
years. Bruno San Martino, Erniethe Kat Ladd Okay, yeah, Ernie
Ladd, Boba Brazil Bobo Yeah, and Kowski man, that's like nineteen sixties
(31:45):
just permeating out of you. Pat. But that's some good Those are good
historical wrestlers, that is for sure. And I appreciate you sharing that with
us today. You bet you, sir, Yeah, thank you. Now.
See, this is what it's funabout this is we've had people like
we had to like what Sam earlierthis segment, he picked a bunch of
guys that were active or are activenow or in Bray Wyat's case, rest
(32:07):
in peace. He was active untilhe passed away, uh last year.
And then you just have a listlike that that is all like fifties and
sixties guys, which is just awesomepro wrestling. It brings us together,
It brings us together. It's awesome. Sabian's on the line, Sabian,
thanks for being a part of ourshow today. What do you got?
Oh? Hello? Yeah, Hi, Hey. I don't know if anyone
(32:28):
said Rayman Stereo Jr. Yeah.I think he's a great guy. He
did a lot of you know,he paved the way for a lot of
these small guys that are out now. Yeah. I mean I say he
should be in there. And RickClair obviously, I know everyone said Rick
Flair and Hogan for what they didto come to stuff. And I'm still
want to put Meal Moscas. Idon't know if anyone said on there,
(32:49):
No we haven't. We haven't saidMeal Moscats. But for people who don't
know, I mean, you wantto talk about one of the real legendary
figures of you know, that kindof Mexican luchador's style, and you throw
Ray Maasterio. He's the guy thatkind of brought it to the forefront into
the masses in the US. ButMail Mascross is one of the real legends
of you know, the Caribbean andMexican wrestling as well. Yeah, he
(33:13):
was the first guy to wrestle inMadison Square Garden with the mask on because
that wasn't allowed there. You go. And I mean, I'm new to
Nebraska, and I know Nebraska hasa lot of history and wrestling that I
didn't even realize this, But likethe AWA Midwest titles, yeah, they
were defended in Nebraska, like theydebuted in Nebraska, and they were defended
(33:34):
constantly in Nebraska. Yeah, andwe need to bring some of that back,
you know, Let's get some ofthese territories back, and then we
can have our own championship belt thatwe're fighting over and all sorts of stuff
and go ahead. I appreciate youguys letting me on and I'm trying to
get that over here. I usedto run a promotion in LA and since
I moved out here, that's allI want to do. Oh that's awesome.
(33:54):
Well, if you need any help, you know what to call,
because we're big wrestling fans over here. Oh, I'll let you bring the
ring over. Yeah, let's gorest Lake Saby. Appreciate you calling it
man. Oh, thank you.All right. We appreciate everybody for calling
in and giving us their list todayand everybody on the email. Sorry I
couldn't get to all of them, you know, run out of time.
We have to get to our Friday, our final four picks because tonight the
(34:17):
big Iowa Yukon matchup, and weare going to get to that in our
picks for that all week and long. Really good basketball on top of that,
along with WrestleMania, this is justgoing to be an incredible weekend right
here on news radio eleven ten KFABand Rady Songer on news Radio eleven ten
KFAB, we need to talk aboutthe final four. Tonight, women's basketball
(34:37):
ten minutes away, South Carolina, unbeaten at thirty six and zero, takes
on an upstart North Carolina state teamNC State women's basketball, not the men
women. South Carolina though an elevenand a half point favorite. Here,
Any chance that these guys lose?Oh, I don't see it happening.
What do you think to cover elevenand a half? I have a feeling
(34:59):
this is gonna end up being liketwenty five. Yeah, But the real
drama is who are they going toplay in the title game? Iowa or
Yukon That game eight eight thirty somewherein there is when it's going to start.
They have to wait for the NCState South Carolina game to finish up.
I was a three and a halfpoint favorite. It's the Page Beckers
versus Kaitlyn Clark matchup that we're dyingto see. Page Becker's one National player
(35:22):
of the Year when they were bothfreshmen, she got a bad knee injury,
missed the last couple of years.Kaitlyn Clark in that stead just blossomed
into the greatest score we've ever seenin women's basketball. What happens tonight?
You know, two different schools ofthought here, one could say that Caitlyn
Clark already played her title game. She beat the dragon of last year LSU
slayed the dragon. She beat thatgreat team. Now that's one school of
(35:45):
thought. It's not my school ofthought. Okay. Another school thought would
be she's just getting started. Sheneeds as well. The crowning jewel of
her legacy is winning this national title. And she's not lacking for fuel because
from what I understand, Yukon neveroffered her even though she was the fifth
ranked recruit in the country. Theythey kind of put their eggs in the
Beckers basket, and let's be honest, she would not have blossomed with Paige
(36:07):
Beckers also in the backcourt with her. And there's one ball to go around.
And Yukon does have a great coach, but he that Page is better
than Caitlyn, So she's not lackingfor motivation. I'm going to Iowa too.
I think there's she's not gonna letthem lose. Although Page Bakers is
really good, she's I hope theyget matched up on the floor. I
(36:29):
don't know if Caitlyn's going to beable to guard her. I don't think
that's going to be, but Ithink Page will guard Caitlyn Clark at various
points because she's really good defensively. But I do have Iowa. I have
Iowa winning, and I think theywin by tannish or so and then South
Carolina Iowa real quick. If that'sthe matchup. Can they beat them a
second year in a row. Idon't think they have the juice I would.
(36:50):
I would love to see it becauseIowa they're right there. Caitlyn clark
crowning achievement. I think South Carolina'sgoing to have the motivation to get back
at her after what happened to themlast year. Yeah, I'm kind of
there with you as well. Ijust can't see him losing. They're they're
they're They're They're incredible. They're ajuggernaut. Men's Final four is tomorrow five
o'clock Perdue and North Carolina State Men. Produe is an eight and a half
(37:12):
point favorite. Edie versus Burns. What happens? I think Perdue cleans up.
I think the DJ Burns is amazing, but he's never played against a
seven foot seven foot four guy, like he's even gonna happen? How do
you even guard him? Can't waitto see that matchup. Can't wait to
watch that game. But I dothink Pdue who's gonna win this one?
I agree. I think Purdue ison a collision course for the final where
(37:34):
they would face either Yukon or Alabama. It's near eight o'clock star time on
Saturday night. Who do you got, Yukon or Alabama. I think it'd
be silly to go against Yukon atthis point. Yeah, it's like the
Mahomes, Like, you don't betagainst Mahomes, right Well, I just
don't think you bet against Yukon rightnow. They're a team top to bottom.
And then it's Clinging and the Huskiesagainst potentially Edie and the boiler Makers.
(37:54):
But we don't have to make ourpicks now because they'll play that game
Monday night, so we'll be geta chance to rerack the deck. Can
make our picks on Monday for thatone, assuming that's the matchup, all
right? If not, who knowswhat's gonna happen. This was a fun
show. If you missed any partof it, whether it was the open
phone line Friday where we talked aboutall sorts of different things, you can
find it on the Emorysonger podcast pageat kfab dot com. You can also
