(00:00):
One thing that we'd like to doon Fridays is this thing called the Friday
for the Friday for if you arejust listening to us for the first time,
or you forget what the premise is. The idea is that you're creating
a mount rushmore of sorts for avariety of topics. Any topic. We
introduce the topic for you and thenyou come up with your list and you
(00:21):
can share them with us. Youcan call in four h two five five
eight eleven ten. Four h twofive five eight eleven ten. Get us
on that speed dial. We'd lovetalking to you, or you can email
me Emory at kfab dot com.Matt case is my producer. Matt.
The premise today your favorite cities inNorth America. Okay, but caveat.
(00:45):
You cannot select any cities or townsor whatever that are in Nebraska or Iowa.
Do you have to have visited thesecities to keep them to have them
on your list? No, likeyou could read a book about them.
You could have seen something on theinternet they said that they were cool.
(01:06):
But your favorite ones, your absolutefavorite cities in North America, not just
in the US, but in NorthAmerica. What would qualify as North America.
Now, see what I'm worried aboutis like the Caribbean, is that
North America? I think technically itis because those countries play Conca CAFF soccer,
(01:30):
and Conca CAFF is the North Americangoverning body. So in North America
you could include Canadian cities, correct, But is Hawaii? I was just
thinking that, Well, why isyou would say that's Pacific? It wouldn't
you? Or is it by proxyNorth America because the country it belongs to
(01:52):
is North America is in North America? Like that that would be that would
be my that would be my thing. Well, anyway, that's the rules.
So I'll go ahead and we'll giveyou our four, and then we're
gonna take your four as well.So start thinking about your four favorite cities
in North America that are not inIowa, Nebraska. Anybody that brings up
(02:13):
Nebraska or Iowa city disqualified. I'llgo first. I'll do the honors this
time, Matt Okay. Number oneis San Diego, California. I've been
to San Diego. The weather wasperfect every single day. Their downtown was
incredibly walkable. They have beaches fordays, quite a bit of like interesting
(02:35):
wildlife like seals and sea lions thatare just like hanging around all the time.
I just I it's just picture perfect. I was there for two weeks
almost, and it's like one ofthose places I just love to go back
to like all the time, Likeeverything I want to do is like is
(02:57):
still like it exists there. Andit's got a lot of history to it,
a lot of like military history andbattleships and stuff that there's a sailboat
races and there's just all sorts ofcool stuff. So San Diego is my
number one. My number two isWilliamsburg, Williamsburg, Virginia. And the
reason I say Williamsburg is it's centralizedto like a huge historic district in eastern
Virginia. And I'm telling you what, dude, if you love American history
(03:22):
or you love North American history, there's just so much of it right there.
And my wife and I did aweek there. It might be my
favorite trip ever. We've done alot of trips that might be my favorite.
So as a history not myself,I have to say Williamsburg. I'm
gonna go with Orlando number three becauseI just love being kind of transported to
different places. I know that Disneylike people the brand of Disney and everything
(03:45):
are just kind of like, oh, it's such a bad company and it
doctrinates and all that stuff. Yeah, it's a pretty modern thing that people
are starting to get angry about. But when you go to the actual theme
parks, there's just something like magicis probably too much of an obvious slam
dunk term. But I just lovebeing there. Universal is a great place.
It's an amazing tourist spot. Theygot SeaWorld there, and they have
(04:06):
all different types of activities for peopleto enjoy when they're there in Central Florida.
I absolutely loved going there, lovevisiting. That's also a place that
I pretty quickly like in the snap. If somebody was just like, hey,
let's spend a weekend down in Orlando, I'd be like, okay,
And then my last one it's kindof a cheat. It's a thing called
(04:28):
White House. The name of thetown is called white House, but it's
in Jamaica. White House, Jamaica, Okay, white House Jamaica is a
made up place that they're building acity around on the south coast of Jamaica.
I stated at a resort there once, and dude dude, it is.
(04:50):
You have to see the water overthere, like you just have to
see it, how clear blue itis, the sun rays and just how
they hit you. The friendliness ofall the of the Jamaican people. Again,
these are all all four of theseplaces are places I'd go back to
in an immediate heartbeat. All right, So San Diego, California, Williamsburg,
Virginia, Orlando, Florida, andWhite House, Jamaica. And yes,
(05:13):
if the country plays in CONCA CAFFfootball soccer, then they count as
North America, and Jamaica plays NorthAmerica. So I do have the list
on Wikipedia of what qualifies as NorthAmerica. Jamaica On the list, Greater
North America includes Bahamas, Bermuda,Canada, the Caribbean, Central America,
Clipperton Island, Greenland, Mexico,Saint Pierre mckulon, Turks, Turks and
(05:44):
Caicos, and the United States.Well, and you said Caribbean, that's
got to include Jamaica when he saidthe Caribbean. Yeah, so and Greenland,
Yeah, that big old island. That's greater North America. Okay,
well there you go. All right, so that counts. Jamaica counts,
right, You're well, let's getto your four in a second, because
I took up way too much time. Okay, all right, So so
(06:08):
Matt Matt case is four, andthen we'll take your four. So go
ahead and call us. Matt's gonnado his, and I'm gonna let you
do yours too. Call us atfour oh two, five, five,
eight eleven ten. Four oh two, five, five, eight eleven ten
your Friday four today. Favorite citiesin North America, but they can't be
in Nebraska or Iowa. Take takehome out of it, and we'll talk
about that when we come back.Stick Around News Radio eleven ten kfab.
(06:30):
We're taking Nebraska and Iowa out ofthe mix, and we are everything else
is fair game, but it hasto be in North America. And we
did conclude the Caribbean is North America, all right. I did have Matthew
email me and he said, sorry, but Jamaica is part of the United
Kingdom not too long ago. Well, what he didn't know is that we
(06:50):
already did the check it and Iwas in Jamaica, so I would have
known that if I would have likeI was there. But anyways, he
replied to himself very quickly after that, I said, okay, I Marie.
I checked, and technically Jamaica isindeed considered part of North America.
So ah, he was forgetting aboutthe Sandals War of nineteen ninety seven.
Oh, when flip flops were used, No to attack swimsuit clad patrons.
(07:15):
No, who are the set Sandalpeople fighting? It was the Brits against
the Americans. The Americans. Yeah, at the Sandals resort. No,
it was a luau that spun outof control of it. People took off
their flip flops. I like theSandals. That's actually where I was,
by the way. Was that aSandals in White House, Jamaica. It
was fantastic and they reenact the battleevery No, there was no battle.
(07:39):
The biggest battle that happened while Iwas there was me on one of those
little sailboats that you can get onand I didn't have enough weight on it
and the wind was blowing me allover the place. I got back safe
and sound, and I figured itall out because I like the sail but
it's like that was scary. Iwas like, I'm gonna get thrown into
the ocean here. But it's ina cove, so you're kind of like
protected. With the reef there, but the wind was just too strong for
(08:00):
that sort of thing. But thatwas the most dangerous thing that happened while
I was in Jamaica. By theway, my Friday four favorite cities in
North America, not in Nebraska orIowa. It is indeed White House,
Jamaica, where I stated at thatresort, Orlando, Florida, Williamsburg,
Virginia, in San Diego, California, Matt Case. But it's yours.
Okay, So you went to allfour of those, right, you've been
to all four? I have?Yeah, mine, I'm only gonna actually
(08:24):
have been to three or one outof the four. I should say I
haven't been to three out of thefour. The first one I'm gonna go
with is a place that is probablytop of my bucket list of places that
I want to visit, which isNew York City. Oh yeah, I've
been to New York City for Iwas seventeen. I didn't get to really
(08:46):
like wander around. But man,it's a different world over there. Yeah.
Well, I can't attest to that. Never been. That's where my
favorite basketball team plays, the NewYork Knicks. You gotta see the Knicks
plays. Gotta do it bucket listmaterial, and I like to talk like
in New Yorker two, even thoughI've never been. Do you do it?
That's the best of the accidents thatyou do with thanks, you know.
(09:07):
I've worked on it quite a bit, you know, and you've got
right in. Yeah. I justkind of want to go up there and
chop it up, you know whatI mean. I want to go into
a deli and feel like, canI fit in? Hey? Can I
get a falafel? You got afalafel at this deli for me right now?
If you don't, that's fine,then I'll come back later and I'll
have the appropriate cash and coins foryou. I don't have it right now.
I'd gladly pay for a Hamburger Tuesdayif you could supply me one today.
(09:31):
I don't know. I just wantto go to New York and talk
like that. It's like, it'slikely it's like me learning Spanish and going
to Spain, except you're just goingto New York and just going to try
to talk like a New Yorker. And I don't think it would go well,
probably not to be like who areyou? I've heard they can be
abrasive. Uh yeah, yeah, they can they can be. Yeah,
(09:52):
that's kind of the point. Yeah, that's the reputation bing bong. Anyways,
people who get that there was like, ah, jeez, it's a
New York thing. What can Isee that? It is? All right?
Next? Next up is a placethat I dreamed of moving to when
I was a senior in high school. Okay, Seattle, Seattle, Washington.
(10:16):
Why is that? I just wantedto leave and go anywhere. But
Seattle was the place. They hada cool music scene. I liked a
lot of bands from there. Ihad an aspiring idea to be a musician.
And I was really into Jimi Hendrixat the time. And was he
from Seattle? Yeah he's He's fromSeattle. Yeah. Yeah, So I've
always wanted to go to Seattle.Never been. I like Rain. You
(10:39):
know you better like rain if you'regonna live there, right, I think
i'd get sick of it after awhile. Well, yeah, weeks.
There's no way i'd live there.Go to the fish market, go to
the space needle. It's smell prettybad. You'd think I might. There
was a fish market in DC.I was riding bikes through like one of
the fish markets on my way toNational's Park. Bro I pedaled so fast
(11:01):
through there. It was repulsive.Really, it was bad. Ah shoot,
well, good luck with that.Maybe I'll get COVID. It'll kill
out my sense of smell, andthen I'll you know, all right,
Seattle, your Chamber of Commerce meetingnow begins, right, so try to
recover from this debacle. All right? Well, so New York Seattle,
(11:22):
keep going, you know what? And you said DC, And now I'm
like, should I put them onthe list because I've been there? Great
place, But I've already decided myfour and this is the third one of
places I haven't been, and I'mexcited to go to. DC almost made
my list too, but I feltlike Williamsburg is kind of redundant, and
I liked Williamsburg better for the historythat exists there, not necessarily the hubbub
of the metropolitan area. But goon, right, So third on my
(11:43):
list is San Antonio. Oh,the River Walk, the Alamo, the
Alamo. I'd love to see theAlamo. I've heard. It's just this
is another place you've not been, not been. Yeah, I've heard culture,
culturally, pretty cool place. Mywife went twice with that out me
down to a wedding she was inNice. I was invited, but it
was all her friends, like,I'm not gonna go down there for that
(12:05):
wander around San Antonio by myself.Does she want you there? She asked
if I wanted to go, butshe didn't make me. Okay, I
was fine not paying the money togo down there and wander around by myself.
A close one b is if Iwas taking a trip down to San
Antonio, I would probably want tospend a little bit of time in Austin
too. It's just it just seemslike a really yeah, it doesn't make
the list. I just wanted tothrow there. When you watch the rules
(12:28):
there stop by kill Tony on theway out. Oh you and number four.
This is a place I have been. Albuquerque, New Mexico. Yeah,
it's Saloons such a unique Yeah,it's got the the international like like
balloon hot air balloon festival that theycalled the Fiesta. Oh yeah, yeah,
uh so it's got that, whichis super cool. But also I
(12:50):
just I loved driving through that city. It was so beautiful. The architecture
was so unique, the Adobe architecture. I just kind of fell in love
with it was it really was justfeels like a different place. And the
fact that Seattle, New York City, and Albuquerque are in the same country
(13:11):
is pretty wild. Yeah, yeah, you go all three of those places,
you just be like, these aredifferent places. I am in a
and this is the beauty of America. And I don't care what anybody says
about the people, and the peoplethat you disagree with, the places that
might not have politics that you like. For us from a standpoint of just
like the weather and the temperatures andthe architecture and the lifestyle and the culture.
(13:33):
The fact that Seattle, Albuquerque, and New York City are all in
the same country is just insane. We are just so all over the place
and that's why everybody can't wait toget here. Something like that. Yeah,
there are rules, all right. So the four are in total,
New York City, Seattle, SanAntonio, and Albuquerque. Boom, all
(13:54):
right, phones are open. Yourfour favorite cities in North America cannot be
in Nebraska or Iowa. Douglas ison the line of four oh two,
five, five, eight, eleven, ten. Douglas, thanks for being
on the show. What do yougot? Okay, I'm not gonna go
with the capitals of murder like someoneelse. So place called Primeville, Oregon.
(14:16):
Oh prime Prime will never you won'tfind it? Okay, Well how
did you find it? Okay?I used to hunt and fish there all
the time. Oh cool, LordsOregon. Oh did you fish there too?
(14:39):
Boston, Massachusetts. That's a goodplace for history and what happened in
the early ages of our country.Yep, that's that's exactly why I had
Williamsburg on my list. There,Douglas, that's a that's a great one.
Yeah. And then last but notleast, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
So why not Denver. I've beento Denver, I lived in Denver,
(15:05):
and yeah, it's the one. It's the capital, and usually the capital
is not the best place to be, that's fair. And Colorado Springs still
has a lot of the mountainee inskiing stuff, right, and the Air
Force Academy is there. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
yeah, that's good. All right, all right, So a couple of
(15:26):
places in Oregon, Colorado Springs, and Boston, Massachusetts. Douglas. That's
a pretty eclectical list. Again, back to my point, I've been to
all of those places. That's awesome. I saw you look at Colorado Springs
and Boston, Massachusetts, and thoseare in the same country. Just incredible
different types of the world that weall have right in our country. Appreciate
(15:46):
the colle Douglas. Thanks for beingpart of the show. Okay, thank
you, buddy. Yep, let'sgo to Roger on the line. Roger,
thank you for calling in today. What's on your mind? Hey,
guys, I enjoyed your program.Uh my favorite. I agree with you
about San Diego. Beautiful, perfectweather there in the summertime. Couldn't have
(16:10):
been any better. But also havebeen on up the coast to Victoria,
Canada. It's a beautiful city offlowers and plants and gardens and just a
beautiful area. And then my thirdwould the Cooperstown, New York. Obviously
(16:30):
the Baseball Hall of Fame, andit's old kind of in the hills and
of the New York it's a reallybeautiful area and through there. And then
my fourth would be, uh,Greater Kansas City, Kansas. Yeah,
there you go. I've been there. They've got everything. They've got the
(16:51):
sports, they've got the culture, and it's just a great variety of weather
and and uh and I just like, all right, that's cool. Roger,
that's a really interesting list. Iappreciate you being a part of the
show and calling in today. Doyou enjoy it? Yeah, for sure.
All right, we get a bunchof the email and the phones keep
(17:11):
ringing, So call us now withyour Friday four of your favorite North American
cities that aren't in Nebraska Iowa.Four oh two, five five eight eleven
ten is the phone number, andwe'll keep this up when we come back
on news radio eleven ten KFAB.The conversation today is about your favorite cities
in North America, but they can'tbe in Nebraska or in Iowa. That's
(17:32):
the parameters. Let's go back tothe phone line. Four oh two,
five five eight eleven ten. Fouroh two, five five eight to eleven
ten. We have Jackie on theline. Jackie, thanks so much for
being on the show. What's onyour mind? Yeah? Hello, Yeah,
what's up? So? I wasthinking the Cleveland, Ohio. They
have really lots of parks and stuffdown there in creams and they have this
(17:53):
huge downtown area, have a hugechandelier in the middle of the street that's
super cool. And then the nextone I would have to say would be
the Ozarks in Arkansas, you know, really like the Grand Canyon trees there.
Mmmmm okay, but you know whatI don't you said we can't mentioned
Nebraska, but we have that thatash falls here and a lot of people
(18:21):
we don't get a lot of exposureabout that. But it's actual proof of
the first Earth Age. You knowthat in Royal Nebraska. Okay? Have
you are you guys familiar with that? I'm not. I just moved to
Nebraska in September last year, soI'm still still learning a little bit Jackie
about that. But it sounds interesting. Oh yeah, it's proof of the
(18:42):
first Curve age that a lot ofpeople are mis educating on. Okay,
well, is there something else thatyou have going on? What do you
mean do you have another one foryou for your place? Yeah? I
have to say I had to sayagree with you guys with San Antonio and
(19:04):
San Antono, San Antonio or what'sthat one in California? San Diego.
Yeah, I've been there too.It is real pretty Yeah. I love
that. All right, Jackie.Well, we appreciate you for listening and
giving us a phone call today.Thank you. Yeah, I have a
good day. Cindy's on the linefour two, five, five, eight,
eleven, ten, Cindy, whatdo you got? Well, my
(19:27):
four would be Park Rafts, Minnesota, Okaymidge, Minnesota, Okay, Colorado
Springs Okay. And there's a littleplace called Manitut Springs in Colorado. Wow.
Okay, So Minnesota and Colorado.I feel like you've been there and
(19:48):
you enjoy those places, Cindy,I truly did. We used to spend
our summers in Minnesota and it wasabsolutely wonderful. Well that's I mean,
I visited. I've never stayed, but the people that I know that live
there really enjoy it. So I'mwith you. I think if you've gone
to these places and they like havemade an imprint on you, it's hard
(20:10):
not to just, you know, tout them. I love telling people when
I've gone to a place, andthat's why all four of minor places I've
gone to. I love telling peopleabout the awesome places I've gone because I
love sharing that so people have theopportunity to enjoy that. So now when
I go to Minnesota, I mightbe thinking in the back of my mind,
you know, Cindy, she said, Bemigi's pretty cool place. I'm
gonna have to check that out. That's the headwaters for the Mississippi River.
(20:33):
Love it, love it well. And I'm a big nature guy, so
that's something I haven't seen before thatI might need to check out. Cindy.
I appreciate you calling in. Thankyou all right, big thanks to
Cindy for being a part of ourshow today. A bunch of emails coming
in real quick. Let's get toa few of those for a roundt of
time here. Curtis says, Orlandofirst major family vacation with awesome memories.
(20:57):
Washington, d C. This despitethe politicians, it was another awesome family
trip with crazy cool history. Yeah, that's the thing. Washington gets a
bad rap from people wh don't livethere because of the swamp if you will
the politicians, But as a city, DC is just an awesome place.
It is one of my favorites.Fort Worth, Texas, he says,
rodeos and music, and then Austin, Texas. Million different reasons, but
(21:18):
mostly the live music. Austin citylimits. People say it's an incredible thing
you have to go check out.I've never been, but you said San
Antonio, not Austin, so Ialmost kind of want to take it back.
Oh takes you back then they're alreadyputting the they're already chiseling away on
the mountain that you put your MountainRushmore on. It can't be changing it,
(21:41):
all right, If you got one. If you want to talk about
your favorite North American cities outside ofIowa and Nebraska, call us at four
h two, five five eight toeleven ten. News Radio eleven ten KFA
B. We are Nebraska's news, weather and traffic station online on the free
iHeartRadio app. That keyword is billsb I l LS. Get that in
there. I have a chance towin one thousand dollars. The reason you
(22:03):
want to do that is because youhave an opportunity to win. That's the
first thing that you got to thinkabout, you know why. Because we
had a guy that won earlier inthe show, not this show, earlier
in the day here on this station, eleven ten KFAB and he'll be joining
us at the bottom of the hour. His name is James. He's from
Omaha. We're gonna hear about whathe's gonna be doing. But right now
we're doing our Friday for This isalways a fun thing that we do.
(22:23):
If you're new to the show,it's where we come up with a topic
and give our mount rushmore of choicesfor the topic. Topic today is your
favorite cities in North America. Butthey can't be in Nebraska Iowa, so
yeah, none of that nearby bullHonky. My four were San Diego,
(22:45):
Williamsburg, Virginia, Orlando, Florida, and then white House, Jamaica,
south coast of Jamaica. It's kindof a made up city, but they're
building a lot of resort land thereand it was just an absolute beautiful thing
that I was at, Matt Case. What was here Friday? It was
New York City. Can you doa Seattle one? First? The Seattle?
Oh yeah, man? It wasIs this Seattle? I've never been?
(23:07):
Did they kind of talk like this? I feel like it's like you're
you're kind of like on the coast, but you're like up north, you
know, so it rains a lot, so maybe you're a little bit sad.
You're kind of like, yeah, him from Seattle, And I just
got back from northern California and it'sa lot more sunny there than it is
here. Okay, it's gonna gosit in my studio apartment and be sad
all day, all right? Sowas somebody in San Antonio, sound like,
(23:30):
be careful? What do you mean, be careful? Be careful down
there? Everything's bigger in Texas. You know what I'm saying? Emory song?
Have you ever been to the TexasRoadhouse? San Antonio is basically like
one giant Texas roadhouse that I alsogot, like the Alamo, which is
pretty cool too. They just bethrowing buttered rolls at you everywhere you go.
Oh, is that right? That'swhat I've heard. They got to
(23:51):
San Antonio. The big French guythere, big French guy in San Antonio.
We we a frenchman san Antonine. There's a big old French guy.
He's like seven to five. OhWemby, Yeah, Wemby. Why don't
people hey Gumby. That's what Ithink of when people call him Wemby.
I think a Gumby. He's slenderman. Oh he is, yeah,
(24:11):
terrifying. Did you see him?The moves he does, He's crazy.
He shouldn't be able to do that. No. Now, if you haven't
seen Victor wiman Niama play basketball, watch the Spurs next season. They might
be terrible as a team, buthe's amazing anyway. Okay, and then
Albuquerque. Albuquerque is number four. The beautiful Adobe slats, the beautiful where's
the Albuquerque accent? I don't know. I don't know what that would be
(24:33):
like. I think it was theone place you've actually been on your list.
You have no idea what they talklike. Yeah, I don't know,
right, fair enough, you know, I feel like it's probably a
little bit like what's the accent inArizona? I don't know. I haven't
been there. You're the one that'sbeen there. I'm not gonna be disrespectful.
I'm gonna do the accent of awhite person. You know, you
(24:56):
you don't want to be disrespectful afteryou went all Texas road house on the
San Antonio road House. Of course? All right, Emory, Yeah,
I bet they are. Yeah,we'll wrestle in the commercial break you WEIRDO.
Four O two, five, five, eight to eleven ten is the
number. Scott's on the line,Scott, what's up? What's on your
mind? Hey? Happy? Haveyou right? All right? So number
(25:19):
four, we're gonna go from thelow to the highest. Number four.
I'm gonna say, uh, Nashvillenice, okay, so you know you
gotta get your yeah, sure,And then Uh, I'm getting ready to
go to this next one here nextmonth, Uh Las Vegas. Oh,
Vegas is a good one. Yeah, I love Vegas. You gotta go
(25:41):
to the freak show every once ina while. Yeah. No, no,
you feel alive and you're in Vegas. There's no doubt about that.
I mean, I don't want tolive there, but I love to go.
People watch now I'm hearing that.I'm hearing that. Yeah. And
then when you want to chill out, then go to bath, Maine,
which is uh outside of Portland, and it's where the naval shipyard the destroyers
(26:03):
and stuff are made. Is ohcool, huge bath Iron works there.
My wife is from that area,so we go to visit. You want
to chill out, you go there. And then my number one I go
to almost on a monthly basis is. There's a caller earlier talking about Ozarks.
Warsaw, Missouri is my home awayfrom home, so cool. Love
(26:26):
to go down there, chill outon the lake, go to the little
town of Warsaw, hangout, havea few beers. It's good time,
good people. I love it.Scott. That's good list. Thanks so
much for being on the show today. All right, you bet yeah,
okay, so other places that I'vebeen that were near misses on my list,
Las Vegas is up there, butthat is it's one of my favorite
cities because of how different it is. It's like a different world. You
(26:48):
go there and you just forget aboutyour regular life, for good or for
bad. It's just like it's away to transport yourself into a completely different
frame of mind. It helps ifyou win money, which I did when
I was there, one like eighthundred bucks. It was great. That
changes your perspective too. If Iwould have lost all my money, then
I probably wouldn't like it as much, to be fair, but I like
(27:08):
it like Vegas. I also,he said, the Ozarks. I've gone
to the Ozarks. I was inthe South Ozarks in northern Arkansas. I
can't remember exactly the name of thetown that I was in. I was
at a resort. I was ona lake. The topography down there is
incredible. It's like it's kind ofmountainous, but it's not the mountains.
(27:30):
It's like prairie mountains. It's likeif you just you have to get on
top of one of those things andjust look down and you're just gonna be
like, Wow, that's that's whereI'm at. Gym's on our line,
Jim, thank you for calling in. You got a Friday four for me?
Yes, Key West, Florida.Mm hmm. Nice. I was
(27:51):

it sounds like a beautiful place there, Jim, you got anything else
in your list? Long Beach, calif War It sounds warm and nice.
Yeah, yeah, clothes, NewMexico, ew, New Mexico made the
list again? Nice? Okay?Ogden, Utah, Ogden, Utah.
(28:12):
How far is Ogden from Salt LakeCity? Oh? I don't know.
I was there fifty years ago,so I don't remember. Oh okay,
I'm guessing there's some good mountains overthere. Yeah, there was good mountains
there. My youngest daughter was bornin Augen, Utah, and my oldest
daughter was born in Clobes, NewMexico. Okay, well that would explain
(28:33):
that. How about that? Allright, Jim, I here, I
see what you're doing there. Iappreciate you calling in, man, all
right, thank you. All right, we'll keep this a role and you
can call in with your Friday fourof your favorite cities in North America.
That aren't in Nebraska or Iowa.Calling out four oh two five five eight
to eleven ten. Four oh twofive five eight to eleven ten, News
Radio eleven ten, kfab Bryce onthe line. Bryce, thanks for being
(28:55):
on the show today. What doyou got for me? I got hannibalmul
Missouri, which is a beautiful viewof the Mississippi there nice. And then
I've got New York City for thepeople and in the sites and things to
do. Sure. And then igot Johnson Hole in in Wyoming, Okay.
And then i got Essence Park inColorado. Very beautiful places. Yeah,
(29:18):
S's Park has popped up multiple timeson the email. I haven't gotten
a lot of the emails yet,but S's Park has been in the emails
also, Bryce, this is goodstuff. Appreciate you calling in man.
Thanks great, Hey, thank youso much, really appreciate that. Brian's
on our phone line at four otwo five five eight eleven ten, Brian,
what do you got? All right? So, I've got Saint Louis
(29:38):
for the arch, nice and theriver. But McDonald's Salt Lake City for
the latter day at Saint Temple andthe surrounding mountains is just beautiful. Out
there, okay, and then Chicagoand that'll be for Sears Tower, Industrial
History Museum and pizzeria who know,Okay, and the best that that I've
(30:00):
ever been to in San Diego thatyou can't nothing I've been to really compared
to that. So ran in andout, Brian, uh, in and
out. That's a multiple fast food. You must like fast food, Brian.
I have to ask how long wereyou in San Diego? So through
my time in the Navy, I'mthere probably eight years about okay, so
(30:22):
you two different duty stations, soyou got to live there, yes,
So all these people that tell methat it's like my dream to like one
day live there because it's just soperfect. Like when I was there,
it was perfect, and everything thatI ever read from people is that it's
perfect. But people here in theMidwest are telling me that I'd get sick
of it being so perfect over theirweatherwise, what say you, Oh,
(30:45):
I miss it? I missed theweather out there. You can't beat it.
Yeah, So take that all youpeople that said I'd get I get
bored with San Diego weather. Idon't think I would. Brian, appreciate
you calling in. Got a problem, all right? We got on line.
John thank you so much for beinga part of our show, You
with Emory on news radio eleven toten kfab Yeah, I got four cities.
(31:08):
One of them is Wisconsin. Dell'samazing town, water parks, everywhere,
great time. Another town is Branson. Obviously a great place to go,
a lot of fun, great placeto hang out, great place to
chill. Yeah, I went.I went for this past Christmas. I
mean my wife went down there fora week, so a bunch of shows
and hung out and did some hikesand everything. Really cool place, really
(31:30):
great place to be and Silver DollarCity underrated theme park actually like super good
theme park. Yeah. Yeah,we've done a couple of family trips down
there. Just a great place, family friendly, you don't have to worry
about any crazy stuff. And speakingof crazy stuff, Vegas is pretty fun
towns. I love it. Yeah, haven't been there since college, but
(31:51):
I mean it was a great time. I'd love to get back there.
Yeah, they've done all the improvementsright, And Johnny, it actually like
people said that Branson is kind ofthe Vegas for families, but I feel
like Vegas has gotten pretty family friendlyover the last several years. They've done
a lot to like make it afamily destination instead of just kind of this
kind of hideaway place where you keepa bunch of secrets when you go,
(32:14):
and you can still have that experience. I understand. I haven't been for
about six years now, but Isee a lot saw a lot of families
when I was there, So it'sgotten a lot better for family and family
entertainment and all the stuff that theyhave over there. Yeah. Yeah,
And my fourth city is one thatmost people probably don't know about. My
son and I took a road triplast summer and we went to Filer,
(32:37):
Idaho to this Highway thirty music festival, and it was an amazing music festival
in a small town. Kind ofmy twin falls right there. Okay,
a great time, and plus gettingthere was the best part because we went
through Yellowstone and went through Montana,we came back through Utah and Colorado.
It was just a great trip gettingthere. But I mean, it was
(32:57):
a really good music festival, alot of good bands, a lot of
good up and coming bands, andit was just a great all around time.
What time of the year was that. It's in June, Okay,
so that's coming up here, huh. Yeah, it's called the Highway thirty
Music Festival, and it is agreat time. It is a lot of
good music and for a like aa couple hundred bucks, you can get
(33:19):
a pass and it's four days andit's from noon till almost midnight every day,
and it's it's a great time.Okay, that sounds awesome. This
is why we do this, notjust to be talking about all the places
that we've been or all the placesthat you know, like just or you
know, just just talking for noreason, like we learned something here like
this is good John, I'm puttingthat on a list. I love going
(33:39):
to obscure places and I love havinga great time. It sounds like you
were able to do that. Appreciateyou calling in with the ideas, man.
Thank you. Enjoy Yeah, forsure, that's awesome. I'd go
there. I'd go to Idaho fora sweet four day music festival. I
mean, come on five to twentyseven, we come back. You're gonna
get reminded of this thousand dollars keywordfrom a Big Bucks giveaway. We're going
(34:00):
to talk to the guy from Omahawho won the thousand dollars earlier today and
also I'll go through some of theseemails of people talking about their favorite cities
for our Friday four That's on theWay on news Radio eleven ten kfa B
and our Big Bucks giveaway contest. His name is James Gentry. He is
from Omaha. James, thanks forbeing a part of our show today.
Hey, happy Friday, guys. How was it? It's been so good
(34:22):
so far. We got just ahalf hour left ahead of us, but
man, it's got It's turned intoa great weekend for you. James.
How often do you play our cashcontest? Oh? You know him?
Over the last year, I've probablybeen pretty consistent about every time that you
iHeart would run the promotion, Iwould be listening. So I really enjoyed
it. Okay, now I'm tellingyou what this is real money. When
(34:45):
they called you, What was yourreaction? Oh my goodness, you know,
it fell out of my chair becauseyou know it comes up restricted call
right right, and and Boorhies alwayssays, hey, answer the call to
worse it could be would be youknow, tell amarkt or some sort of
a political message. So but Ipicked a call and it was there,
(35:05):
and I was jumping out my skin. It was fine, amazing. I
love to hear that we're speaking withJames Gentry. He won a thousand dollars
in our nationwide keyword contest earlier todayon KFAB. I have to ask,
James, what do you have onyour mind with the money? Like,
what are you going to use themoney for? Oh Man so much I
could use it for. Well,we're planning My wife and I are actually
(35:27):
planning to take our son, hiswife, and our three grandsons to Disney
early twenty twenty five, so itprobably will fock most of it away for
that trip. That's a great creditabout that. Well, have you been
listening to our show, James. We're talking about our favorite cities in North
America that are not in Iowa orNebraska, and I put Orlando on my
list. So yeah, you gota couple that you'd like to throw out
(35:50):
there for us. You know,I am a real mountain guy, and
I've heard somebody say Jackson, Wyomingalready, that's a fantastic city to go
to, but also spend some timein Tennessee, so I would I would
say Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Okay, fun place, great smoky mountains, Asheville,
North Carolina. You know the homeof the Biltmore and that's got a
(36:12):
real good food scene here called Yeah. And then out on the outer banks
out there is a little place calledEmerald Isle, North Carolina. It's a
lot of fun. Well, James, I really appreciate you for being a
part of the KFAB family. We'reglad that we were able to reward you
with one thousand dollars in our nationwidekeyword contest. Thanks for playing. Spend
that money wisely, have some fungoing to Orlando and whatever else you got
(36:35):
planned, and call in whenever yougot something you want to say. All
right, all right, thanks guys, appreciate it. Yeah, absolutely,
this is why we played the game. And he said, Asheville, North
Caroline, I just want to throwthis out here before I get back to
our favorite cities. He loves Asheville, Ashle's beautiful place. It really is.
I've been North Carolina a couple oftimes. Beautiful place. But Matt,
I'm not going to give him aformal left because they don't deserve it.
(36:58):
But there was a group of people, random people that they had video
yesterday that surfaced. Somebody took avideo like a video of people who plucked
a couple of bear cubs out ofa tree in Ashville and were trying to
take photos with them. Plucked themright out of a tree. They were
in a tree. They reached upand they grabbed them, pulled them down
and were like jumping up and downholding these bear cubs. Wow, they
(37:22):
found one of the bear cubs.People reported this. Eventually, somebody like
the people in charge down there inAshville found one of the bear cubs with
an injured paw. Ah. He'srehabbing right now. Couldn't find the other
one. They're hopeful that it gotreunited with their mom. But these idiots.
I hate people, you know what. I Am not gonna like get
(37:42):
mad at people for having a differentpolitical opinion than me, because opinions of
policies and everything like, that's whatthis country was built on. You are
an absolute evil person if you don'tunderstand what you're doing in that moment.
So I and in of the videosthe news outlets have blurred the faces of
the people and their identities for somereason. Get that out there. I
want these people to be villainized forthe rest of their lives. These are
(38:05):
the kind of people that don't deservesecond chances. So if you see that
video of those poor little bear cubsbeing plucked out of a tree, which
I'm sure they were in because theirmother was nearby, that mom couldn't come
save the day. In that scenario, who knows what's gonna happen to the
other one. They couldn't find, that first one is probably never going to
get back with mother, and whoknows, like they're probably gonna have to
nurse that thing to adulthood. Well, they spent every last ounce of luck
(38:30):
they had on the fact that thatmother bear didn't come Maulum Well, and
that would have been poetic justice, and I would have been totally okay with
it. I don't even care. You go and find a wild animal like
that and you pluck it out ofits natural habitat just so you could take
some photos with it. I hateyou. You're evil people. So you
see that video going around and besure to let them know what you think
(38:51):
about it, because those people shouldThose are the people that you put in
rot under the prison, just disruptingwildlife like that baby bears that now they
either injured or can't find mom everagain because they had to take their little
photos. I hate people, man. Anyway, you just reminded me of
(39:12):
that when he called in. Ilike Ashville though as a city. Cool
place. Yeah, a lot ofgood history there as well in the beautiful
mountains that are over there. Let'sgo ahead and do the rest of our
Friday. Four. Hi, let'sgo to trolfas Tralfaz is on the line.
Four two, five, five, eight to eleven ten. Hello trial
Faz, what's on your mind?Hey? Happy Friday? Hey, yeah,
Friday. For some diverse places here, I'm gonna start with the closest,
(39:36):
kind of the Rapid City area. But there's a town up there actually
called Hill City. It's their keystone, and you can't go wrong anywhere in
the Black Hills. It's just gorgeousup there. It's just like the Ozarks,
but less of the hillbilly there. It's more of a just pine ridge
stuff. That's gorgeous. Area. Also Williamspur, Virginia, Colonial Whimsburg.
(40:00):
It's awesome place to visit, alot of history, Lauren. It's Louisiana.
Yeah, uh. And I usedto go quite a bit to Athens,
Georgia for Navy training and such.Cool and as long as you don't
go there after like the late spring, and and uh don't go there in
(40:23):
the summertime because it's ghastly hot.Uh, it's gorgeous. Uh town.
It's it's the University of Georgia's campus, but it's a really neat town too.
So that's my Friday four. Ihave a good one, yay Man,
Thanks al Faz. That was aneclectic list, nice and diverse.
Let's go ahead and get to Danreal quick. Dan, thanks for the
call today. What's on your mindon the Friday flour Hell? Hell?
(40:46):
Hell, hey, I need Ineed to let you know I've been everywhere,
I've seen everything, and I've doneeverything. I'm also your music fan.
So here's my four. Yeah, fire away number one, living on
(41:07):
Tulsa time also Oklahoma. By thetime I get the Phoenix, she'll be
rising. Ah, take me backto Tucson and I'll get the job done.
Nice Okay. I'm proud to bean Okie from Muskokee. From Muskokee.
(41:30):
Wow, That's that's one heck ofa way to give us your list
there, Dan. I appreciate theenergy today and hopefully you have a great
weekend. Man. Thanks for thecall. Well, ah, I love
it. All right. I'll runthrough some of these emails just real quick
over the next couple of minutes, because I had some really good ones.
U Z. Frank says, callispellMontana. Never heard of it, but
(41:52):
Montana's on my list to go seefor sure. Brian says Monagua, Nicaragua.
Uh, the only place, oneof the only places in the world
you can visit two oceans in thesame day. I'm guessing, yeah,
the Atlantic and then the Pacific forsure. San Diego, Tampa and Colorado
Springs. We've seen San Diego andColorado on a lot of people's lists.
(42:12):
Lowell says, San Diego went deseep deep deep sea fishing there all the
time. Cloudcroft, New Mexico.Scenery is amazing in the mountains, Anchorage
for the fishing. Alaska, that'sa that's a new one. And then
Gettysburg because of the history in theera. Okay, all right, that's
pretty good, Mike says, Sedona, Arizona, Carlsbad, California, Santa
Fe, New Mexico, and TeddyRoosevelt National Force in North Dakota. Now
(42:37):
that's that's some outdoors in thiss rightthere. That's that's some good outdoors.
Jeff says, San Diego. Ithink San Diego is gonna win this.
It feels like everybody's got san Diego. He mentioned La Joya. La Joya
is an awesome spot. It's asuburb, and that's La Joya is kind
of where you're going to see alot of your sea lion action on the
beach Coronatdo Island, as Grady says, as well, Livingston out North entrance
(43:00):
to Yellowstone Park. Okay sisters Oregon, Boston, Massachusetts got Jason says,
Es Park is his paradise. Coreysays Seattle, Washington, Austin, Texas,
Las Vegas, and Kansas City.Love to see that. Andy says
Spokenne Washington, Rapid City in SouthDakota, Scottsdale, Arizona. In the
New Orleans, there's another New Orleans, Carl says, Estes Park, Colorado
(43:22):
again, Centennial, Wyoming, BellowFalls, Vermont, and San Antonio,
Texas. And then finally, let'swrap up here we have Robert who says,
if you could take out all thecurrent people, Washington, d C.
Would be his favorite. Obviously thathas something to do with the politicians
there, but I'm a Washington,DC was literally my first cut. That
(43:43):
was like the first I just feltlike Williamsburg was more my vibe for this
list. But Washington's amazing too, really awesome stuff. We appreciate everybody for
taking part of the conversation. We'llwrap up, we'll make our picks for
the beginning of the NBA Playoffs, and we'll wrap it up to send you
out on your weekend on news radioeleven to ten kfa B the playing games
to night Bowls at the Heat,Heat without Jimmy Butler. Six o'clock,
(44:04):
that's about to start down in Miami. Who you Got? I feel like
you gotta go Bulls here. Ido too. The Heat are still a
dangerous team, and if the Bullslose, that's kind of on them.
Winner gets the Boston Celtics and itis probably getting swept either way, I
would guess y, especially the Heatwithout Jimmy Butler. Eight thirty to night,
Sacramento Kings riding high off blowing outwith Golden State in the first playoff
(44:28):
game, taking on a Zion Williamsonlist. New Orleans Pelicans eight thirty tonight
in New Orleans. Who you Got? It's my personal opinion that I think
I think Jimmy Butler is the biggerloss between the him and Zion, but
I still think King's role in thisone. I do think the Kings are
going to win, and I thinkthe Kings are going to be a little
because Zion Williamson looks like with ahamstring strain out for at least a week
(44:51):
or two and he's not going tobe of any help in the first round
against Oklahoma City anyway, the Kingsin thunder, that could be a little
interesting. We'll see exactly what happenstonight. Okay, first round series,
we got the Magic and the Cavaliers, the four to five matchup in the
East. Who you got, I'lltake the Magic in this one. Young
team games, Yeah, I'd sayMagic and six. Magic and six.
(45:14):
That's exactly what I have. Inthe Eastern Conference, you have the number
three seed Milwaukee Bucks taking on thenumber six seed, the Indiana Pacers.
I'm gonna say Pacers take this onein seven and Giant and giannis Ante di
Compo makes his way out of Milwaukeeafter the end of the WHOA, Well,
(45:35):
he's injured right now, they're notsure he's going to be able to
play at all in the first round, So if they lose to Milwaukee or
to Indiana, that could be that. I actually have Milwaukee surviving in seven
games myself. For the two toseven that is the New York Knicks taking
on the Philadelphia seventy six ers.And you know where I'm going with this
one, because I cannot root againstmy team. I understand why this is
(45:57):
people's trendy upset pick. It's nothappening. Yeah, Mbid was not himself
against it, and he's still notgonna be himself. I think that the
New I think New York matches uppretty well against the Sixers. I got
Nixon six. I would say Iwas gonna say Nixon six as well.
I'll say Nixon five. Just bea little bit more optimistic. All right.
Uh, Boston against the play andwinner. They're gonna sweep probably right
that or a gentleman sweep either one. Yeah, all right. In the
(46:19):
Western Conference, the one seed OklahomaCity against either the Kings or Pelicans.
You got the Thunder. Yeah,I gotta go with the Thunder, Okay.
The two seven, real quick inthe Western Conference is the Denver Nuggets
against the LA Lakers. You gottago Nuggets. Nuggets swept them in the
East in the West Finals last year. I don't think it'll be a sweet
maybe five or six. Uh.The three six is the Timberwolves hosting the
Suns. This is another one whereI'm gonna go with an upset. I'm
(46:43):
gonna say Suns over Timberwolves. They'reactually favored in Vegas right now to win
this series. But I'm gonna goTimberwolves. They're gonna figure it out and
I have them winning in seven. And then you got the four or five
matchup, which is Clippers and Mavericks. I'll take the small upset Mavericks over
the Clippers. I just think DonChic in the playoffs is going to go
off if Kawhi Leonard's healthy, andthat's an if, but if he plays
(47:04):
Clippers and six for me, Okay, all right, well, come back
next week. We'll get you setup, get you off on your way
to another great week living here inthe Omaha area. Until then, if
you see me at the Maverick runfive K down at U and O tomorrow,
