things that's happening this weekend is ArborDay weekend. And we're joined now by
the marketing manager of Arbor Day Farm, Rachel Rabick. Rachel, first of
all, thanks so much for beingon our show today. Yes, thank
you so much. It's a pleasureto be here. Okay, so can

(00:20):
we start with Arbor Day first? Now, I know Arbor Day has a
unique history with the state of Nebraskaspecifically, but kind of for people who
might not really know what Arbor Dayis all about, what does arbor Day
kind of lend its awareness to.Yeah, so, Arbor Day is a
national tree planters holiday, if youdon't already know that, And it started
right here in Nebraska City with JayStirling and Morton who thought this is a

(00:46):
great place and a place that needsto have some trees planted. And so
this is where it all began. And on that first Arbor Day we actually
planted a million trees. And NebraskaCity is stranger to celebrating the holiday.
We take it very seriously here inthe town, but here at Arbor Day
Farms specifically, and we have lotsof fun activities planned this weekend and when

(01:11):
invite you in your family to comeout and join us. Yeah, so
let's go ahead and start talking aboutthis. So Arbor Day Farm you mentioned
located in Nebraska City, and ArborDay Weekend is chalk full of things that
are going on throughout the entirety ofthe days, starting with Friday. Doesn't
look like you're wait too long. It's Friday morning. You got some of
the festivities beginning. What are someof the things people can catch on Friday.

interior and exterior. There's lots tosee, including the Lilac Grove which is

(01:55):
home to more than two hundred andfifteen species of lilacs, which is the
largest collection here actually in Nebraska. And then make your way over to Tree
Adventure. We'll have lots of facepainting, tree climbing, family friendly activities,
and then you can even hop aboardthe Discovery Ride and go through a
tour by tractor of the farm andthe orchards, and that's happening at noon

(02:15):

pm. And that's a Lead Lodgeon Friday evening. Lots of things packed
into Saturday as well, a lotof the same activities just at different times,
so be sure to check out Ourbordayfarmdot org slash Arbor Day for more
details. But again that wine InsiderTaste in at Apple House Market will have

(03:00):
free samples with t and more fromten to one and then orchard tours at
Arboda Farm where you'll meet at thedepot followed by a live smitten apple tree
planting And this is really special tous. This is the newest variety of
apple tree that we're going to beplanting in the orchard, and it makes
us one of only five non commercialgrowers worldwide crying this apple variety. So

(03:25):
come by and you can even getyour hands dirty and even you know,
actually plant a couple of the trees, followed by a free sample that we
were able to grab from an orchardup in Michigan. Actually, so you'll
get to actually taste the smitt andapple, which won't be available in our
Upick for a couple of years, but that'll give you a taste of what

(03:45):
the tree is are actually what thetree apples are actually going to taste like
when they're starting to bear fruit.Later in the day we'll have special performances
by Professor Pricklethorn the Beams, andthen of course visits from our Carly the

We hope to see you out there. Yeah, this is fantastic. We're
speaking with Rachel Raebik. She isthe marketing manager for Arbor Day Farm.
Everything you just heard right there. If there was anything that you missed,

(05:12):
you can find it at Arbor Dayfarmdot org, which is their website and
they have all the information that you'relooking for there. I have to ask
Rachel, this is obviously the biggestweek end of the year for anybody who
works at a place that's named aftera holiday, right, so the actual
holiday happening. But I have toask, you know, with so many
trees in so much, you know, your reliant on nature so frequently,

(05:33):
and we had I had one ofmy trees lose a branch the other day.
Is how does the weather kind ofaffect the farm and how do you
guys do the best that you canto kind of protect yourself against these wild
Midwestern seasons that we have all year. Yeah, you know, that's a
great question. We're seeing some ofthe trees actually budding out a couple of

(05:53):
weeks early. But I just spokewith our orchard manager and certified artiborisk here
on staff, and he's not tooworried about it. So is that,
you know, even with that windthat came through here recently, it's the
trees arewithstanding the seasons and all sortsof weather that we seem to be getting
here in Nebraska. And likewise, with everything happening this weekend, we do

(06:15):
have plan be set up for multipleof the activities and we'll be sure to
celebrate even if if the weather dictates, you know, even with some rain
and wind. We've got lots ofindoor activities that we can do, and
we can always be adaptable and movethings inside too. That's really good to

(06:35):
hear. Obviously, that will won'tscare people away. Then if they're like,
well it's supposed to be outside,it's a little bit too windy or
it's a little bit too rainy, they got everything covered over here at our
bor Day Farm, so Nebraska City. If you're wondering like me, I'm
a new Omaha person, less thanan hour trip from central Omah. I
mean, this is the perfect kindof family activity that you'd be looking for.

(06:58):
For somebody who's never seen arbor DayFarm before, what can they anticipate
when they get onto your guys's property. You are going to be surrounded by
trees and beauty. It is theperfect time of year to come. Springtime.
Everything's buddy now. All of theflowers are starting to poke through the
ground and just immersing yourself in thebeauty of the trees and the trails.

(07:21):
I mean, there's at least atwo and a half mile walk behind Lead
Lodge that connects us to the farmside. Is what we fondly as what
we fondly refer to it as wherethe Tree Adventure is located, along with
Apple House Market and Porter's Barbecue whereyou can get a tasty treat for lunch
dinner followed by an apple slushy. So there is so much to see and

(07:43):
do you won't even be able todo it in a day's time, So
we invite you to book your overnight'sday and make it a full weekend with
so much cool stuff going on throughoutthe weekend at Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska
City. Rachel Raebick, marketing managerfor Arbor Day Farm, thank you so
much for being a part of ourshow and giving us this information that sounds
like a great time. I can'twait to see how many people are going

(08:03):
to be out there and enjoy agreat family weekend with everybody that they have
close to them and celebrate ourbor Day. Yes, thank you, Emery,
I appreciate it.
