(00:00):
Joining us on the phone line isthe new, brand new, spanking new,
shiny new and new new hosts smellcoming on the phone lines. We're
talking to Jeff Angelo, the newmorning show host on our sister station in
Des Moines ten forty WHL, andhe was joining us on the phone lines
to give his political analysis. Andfirst of all, Jeff, are you
drinking anything today? No, Iwill start drinking heavily tonight when this debate
(00:22):
begins, because that's how we're allgoing to get through it, to be
honest with you. So, butI did bring my new host smell with
me, Emory. I smell likerich Corinthian leather. Oh oh, trying
to even think what that would smelllike. It's crazy. I smell like
lawn because I hurried up in modeof my lawn before I came back.
(00:43):
You know, I'm one of thoseguys. So now I'm stinky and that's
okay. Thanks too, Glad tobe on the phone line. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, I wish Icould smell your Corinthian leather. You're glad
that you can't smell me. Don'tworry, everybody for the watch party we're
doing to watch party. By theway, if you're listening and you're shooting
in watch party tonight o'clock Buffalo Wingsand Rings here in Omaha. I know
(01:03):
I'll be there. I don't knowwho else is going to be there,
but I would love to see.I love to meet. I promise I'll
shower between now and then. Soare we going to learn anything about this
thing tonight or are you thinking like, like, is this debate for anybody
except for seeing inns ratings? Well, I think it's I see it's for
the small number of swing states thatyou have, that small number of voters
(01:26):
that are ultimately going to decide theelection. You're talking about Georgia, Arizona,
Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania. Interestinglyenough, Minnesota is tied between Biden
and Trump. That's fascinating. Soif you got a handful of voters that
(01:47):
are still on the fence, that'swho this debate is for. Most people
are watching for entertainment value. Ihad a Texter on my morning show this
morning. Today, we're going towatch it for the same reason watch NASCAR
and Rodeo. You're looking for somebodyto crash and burn, and that's exactly
what's going to happen. I mean, most people are going to be watching
(02:08):
it to see if Biden has atotal cognitive breakdown or freezes up on the
stage, and everybody's watching to seeif Trump will become unhinged, and that
is entertainment value. At the sametime, you know, if you are
an actual undecided voter, and performancemeans more to you than anything else.
(02:34):
You just got to get a feeling, like, you know, do I
want this guy to be president forfour more years? And so I think
performance is why people are watching today, either for entertainment purposes, is they've
already made up their mind, oryou really do have a handful of undecided
voters. They just want to geta feel for whether or not they're comfortable
(02:55):
voting for either of these guys. These guys are overall, they're unpopular Canadate.
Let's admit that, whether you likethem or not. In general,
fifty thousand foot through they're unpopular candidates. So you go, Okay, I'm
not really crazy about either of theseguys. I just got to get a
feel for who I want to bethe next president. And that's how it's
(03:17):
going to go. Tonight, Speakingwith Jeff Angeloi's the morning show host so
sister station the ten forty who inDes Moines and a political analyst. As
far as I can, I considerhim, not that you're not a great
host, but the political analyzation iswhat I came here for. And I
got a couple of wild things thatI want you to consider. Are you
are you game here? Are yougames already? Yeah? Ready? You
(03:39):
smell any conspiracies about how to getBiden through ninety minutes on his feet?
No? Not really. I meanI think what they've been doing is they've
been telling the media you know,he's been just doing NonStop debate prep.
I think he's just been doing nonstop sleeping. I mean, I think
there is some debate prep going on, but I feel like I don't think
(04:00):
there's anything any kind of cocktail they'rebrewing up or anything they're going to shoot
into his veins before the actual,uh, the debate. I think they've
been allowing him to sleep a lot. And I mean that seriously. I
mean, the guy is elderly andstruggling physically and mentally. It really is.
Now to your point, I thinkone of the things that will be
(04:21):
really interesting is, uh, youknow, you have all these advisors talk
talk, talking in your ears, and they say you got to go out
and you got to be vigorous andproject energy. You know, mister president,
does he go out and overdo that? I've you know, we've seen
him do that where he does thewide eyed thing and stavvy pointing thing and
(04:45):
yells a lot. You know thatis you know that That's what the Trump
people have kind of set up herewith all of this kind of bizarre talk
of grudging him up. Is ifhe comes out and he overreacts to what
his advisors are telling abus president, you gotta look vigorous, you gotta look
energetic, you gotta look in control. And you know, you will remember
a few years back with Howard Deanwas told that, you know, when
(05:08):
he's finished, not in first placein Iowa, and they said, we'll
go out and act like you wantanyway, and he got the Dean scream
and the crazy overreaction and that wasthe end of his candidacy. So Biden
tonight, knowing that his advisors aretelling him he's got to look vigorous and
energetic and in control. If heoveracts, I think that hurts him just
(05:30):
as much if he if he hassome cognitive moment. I just watched him
walk off of his plane Air Forceone, got down and now walking into
his limousine. He did not tripand fall down the stairs. So if
that's what we were saying for likes, unfortunately, that's where we're at the
(05:50):
step one complete. Okay, Hey, Jeff, can you stick around?
I got I got a rapid firequestions of things to expect tonight. Could
you stick around for one more sakewith me? Yep? Yeah, that's
just fine. All right, twofifteen more with Jeff Angelo as we analyze,
and I'm going to get his takeon I got a bunch of questions.
I'm going to get through as manyof them as I can as to
what he thinks is going to happentonight. In this debate on news radio
(06:11):
eleven ten Kfab, Emery Songer sharedwith someone you Love on news radio eleven
ten kfab, let's go ahead andjust pull you back in here. I'm
going to hit you with some rapidfire. Are you sitting down? Are
you ready? I am ready?Go right ahead. Are we going to
get a Trump vice president tonight?No? I don't think so. I
think he announces that in advance tothe Republican National Convention. I don't think
(06:35):
he announces it during the debate.Who do you think that might be?
Do you have a kind of atab on this, you have a couple
of front runners. I think he'sgonna tab the ak Ramaswami. I think
that what the evaluation I think that'sbeen going on by Trump and his people
are who presents the best when they'reout there. He's got all these spokespeople
(06:57):
out there for him, you know, Tim Scott, Doug Bergham, the
day Ramaswami. I think his peopleare leaning toward Ramaswami. I think it
goes to the person that presents theTrump message the best, and I think
that they think that Ramaswami is theguy. Also, Ramaswami has a gigantic
(07:18):
presence on social media and a giganticattraction among younger, non traditional voters,
and so I think that all ofthat makes him the most attractive candidate for
vice president. Is that the bestcandidate in your eyes? Or are they
missing the boat on somebody even crazier, like maybe a Byron Donald's Tulci Gabbert
at least Dephonic. Yeah, Iwish they'd go with Tulci Gabbert. I
(07:41):
think that. You know, there'sso many people emery focus on Donald Trump
the person, and if they likehim and they don't like him, they
never ask themselves why he actually gotelected in the first place. And one
of the big things is that he'sthe outsider. You know, everybody's frustrated
with Washington, DC. They don'tthink that they really do anything in regard
(08:03):
to the biggest issues of the day. So you send in this outsider who's
going to knock some heads together. That's a lot of Trump's appeal. I
think Toulci Gabbert fits in that lanetoo. I think it would be cool
to have a vice presidential candidate whodoesn't exactly agree with everything the president is
out there campaigning on and would toutthat and say, hey, we're independence,
(08:24):
we're independent thinkers. We don't agreeon everything, but we're going to
go to Washington and we're going toknock some heads together. I'd love Trump
Gabbard. Yeah, that'd be prettyfun. Okay, so what do you
expect from the moderator tonight? Ofcourse, Jake Capper, who noted Trump
hater, you have Dana Bash.Obviously, she kind of fits the bill
to a lesser extent. Do youthink they're going to play a factor tonight.
(08:46):
Yeah, they're going to play afact tonight because I think a lot
of modern media, and modern nationalmedia particularly is trying to get viral moments.
And I think that I think you'regoing to get a lot of questions
that are meant to provoke, provocativeanswers, and provoke those viral moments that
(09:09):
CNN wants. So you know,if you're thinking that you're going to get
ninety minutes of straight policy, wellnow we're going to talk about the Middle
East, Well, now we're goingto talk about gun control. Well,
now we're going to talk about theeconomy. I think you're naive, man.
I think that CNN goes for viralmoments tonight and they're working up the
most confrontational questions they can think, and I think that for both candidates,
(09:33):
I really do. I think CNN'svery cognizant of all of the attention that's
been paid to them in the pastweek about how these moderators aren't exactly unbiased
when it comes to Donald Trump. So I do think they're going to try
to hit Biden with a few juicyquestions that go viral, certainly something to
keep an eye on. We're speakingwith Jeff Angelo, morning show host for
(09:54):
ASSISSI station into More ten forty whofor a politician himself with political list as
far as I'm concerned, and wesaw earlier this week Judge Wan Mershawn adjust
the gag order for Donald Trump. Is that a good thing or a bad
thing that he can talk about someof these people? Now, Oh,
I think it's a good thing.I mean, you know that Biden's going
to bring it up. I don'tknow how many times he's going to say
(10:16):
convicted fellon tonight, but that's whatthey're going to drill into him to say
over and over again. And that'sgoing to cause Trump to have to defend
himself, and he does have to. You can't let charge, you can't
let charges go you know, unanswered, you can't let negativity go unanswered.
So I think what he does ishe's allowed to say whatever he wants to
(10:37):
say about the bias of the judge, the bias of the jury. I
think you had you had to allowthat. He's going to go into a
debate what everybody knows that his fellowand convictions are going to come up if
the Democrats are thinking like in fortychess here and again, nobody's accusing them
(10:58):
of doing that, But does isit behoove them for Biden to not do
well tonight and give them a legitimatereason to do a bait and switch at
the national Convention? Yeah? Itdoes. I think that I do not
think Joe Biden's going to win.I think we're pretending that he has a
chance in this next election. Hedoesn't. I mean by every political metric,
(11:18):
and I appreciate you Emory talking aboutthat. I'm a political analyst.
I've campaigned and I've run campaigns, and there's every political metric indicates that Joe
Biden is going to lose this upcomingrace, just over and over again,
every metric you look at. Soit would be hoo's them that he actually
(11:39):
freezes up or has a gigantic meltdowntonight. Anybody would be a better candidate
right now than Joe Biden. Anybody. I mean, the man's approval ratings
right now are in the upper thirties. If you're an incumbent under forty five,
you're considered in trouble. This isa guy who's in the thirties and
is losing amongst the voter on everyimportant issue that is at the top of
(12:03):
voter's mind. I mean, byevery metrics, he's going to lose this
race. If they stick with him, and who would be the ideal candidate
or two that you think would beobvious stand ins for the Democrats, it
would have a chance to win byNovember. Michelle Obama. Michelle Obama is
the most popular woman in America, and all of the unenthusiasm for Biden goes
(12:28):
away as the Democrats get all firedup, go crazy over Michelle Obama.
Suburban women like her. I mean, my Republican friends don't like to hear
this, but I'm real because againI have campaigned to myself and I've helped
other candidates campaign. You've got tobe real about what you're facing. If
it's Michelle Obama, Donald Trump becomesan immediate hunderdog. Is that the only
(12:52):
scenario? And how likely would yousay that that is? You know,
I think that if they have that, they're going to have the convention in
Chicago, which is Obama Bill andI think that if they come along and
beggar, I think that she wouldbasically do it. I mean, Gavin
Newsom is also a definitely a candidatethat's sort of been you know, if
(13:13):
this is a baseball game, he'dbe warming up in the bullpen, and
they do want to call him in, So I think that he is another
possible candidate. But if they wantto win the Selle Obama's person really interesting
and we'll see if that happens. We haven't heard a peep out of that
side of things. And also, okay, so bonus question on that front,
how likely is it that the Democratswant to admit that they were wrong
(13:35):
about Biden's cognitive abilities? This debategives him the excuse. I mean,
dude, this is most of thetime I think you and I would come
on to a show and say,ah, these debates, they don't really
matter all that much. This isthe biggest debate of all debates, you
know. I mean, this isthis is the Democrats deciding if they're going
(13:56):
to go with Biden. This iswhether or not Trump's going to have him
down, and it hurts his chancesbecause he's the front runner right now.
This is a huge, huge dealand a lot of people are going to
be listening in tonight. Last oneJeff, Sorry, I keep thinking of
another one I want to ask for. I get you out of here.
So the early debate, I mean, this is late June. It's never
been done like this before. Wehaven't even gotten to the conventions yet.
(14:20):
Is this benefit? Did the Democratsare the Republicans more? Or was this
a specific decision to be made becausethey wanted to have that fallback option the
convention hadn't happened yet. Yeah,I think they were. I think the
Democrats wanted to have the fallback option. I mean, I think this is
a debate that the timing of debate. Obviously, Trump wanted the debate because
(14:41):
he thinks that he can wipe thefloor with Biden, and Biden is cognitively
challenged. I think the Democrats wantedthe debate to be early on so they
could make a decision on whether ornot they can go forar with Biden.
So tonight's the night for Democrats tomake their final decision as to whether or
not this is their candidate. Allright, well, we'll be watching eight
(15:01):
o'clock tonight is when it starts.CNN's hosting. It's gonna be simulcasten in
a ton of different stations, butwe're gonna be watching at Buffalo Wings and
Rings here in Omaha. I'll bethere. Can't wait to see you there,
Jeff Angelo. I can't wait totalk to you about how this thing
goes. And you're gonna have thatin your moin show tomorrow morning. Of
course, I'll be talking about tomorrowafternoon, and I guess we're gonna sit
and see what happens. Absolutely gotthe popcorn. Oh yeah, bring that
(15:24):
popcorn. I'll get the popcorn ready. Thanks Jeff, appreciate it, you
bet you all right? It istwo thirty Emory Songer here with you.
Big thanks to him. Always goodto talk about to somebody that's really got
the brain on this stuff. Twentyfour to seven, three sixty five.
Big thanks to jeffan Angelo for joiningus. And he's very active on his
social media as well with things likethat, so be sure to check that
(15:46):
out. Come back. We'll getyour thoughts. I got a few different
questions that I want to kind ofinitiate, so we're not just talking about
this, this, this and thisdebate wise the entire show. We are
going to do that, but Ihave a couple of things to just kind
of recalibrate our mind so we understandthat, hey, life doesn't end with
a good or bad performance one wayor the other tonight, even if it
is going to be incredibly entertaining. That's on the way on news radio eleven
(16:07):
ten kfab, Emrie Sunger on newsradio eleven ten kfab. What do you
think is gonna happen? Man?I mean you're a grounded person. You're
a lot more grounded than I am. What do you think? I don't
even that's such a broad question. What do you think will happen? I
mean anything could happen. A guycould eat a banana. Nobody see that
(16:29):
coming, but it could happen. So what are you looking for? That's
what I guess is probably a moreappropriate and specific question. It's the baby
Boomer Boss Battle. Whoa the quadrupleB? Yeah, it's yeah, quadrup
baby Boomer Boss Battle. Yeah, doctor Seuss has made in appearance. Ladies
(16:52):
and gentlemen, thank you, thankyou very much. I actually stole that
from someone else. Yeah, wellyou didn't. What time does the debates
start? I think it's a andthen it goes tell well, it's a
ninety minute debate. So if theyask the first question at eight, which
are they going to do that?Right? Really? Would it be okay?
So, so here's an interesting questionas we theorize on this. You
know how when you watch a sportsevent that has a pregame show, the
(17:14):
network always tells you that the pregameshow time is like the start time for
the event, even though tip offisn't for like twenty more minutes. Is
there a chance that ninety minutes isfrom like eight to nine thirty but they
don't actually get the candidates to starttalking until like eight oh seven. What
are the prop bets to this thing? That's what I want to know,
prop bets. It's got to besomebody going to be singing the national anthem?
(17:37):
Debate? Can we get Taylor Swiftto mim the national anthem? There's
no way they do the national anthemin front of this Come on, but
what if they did? Who wouldit be? Kamala Taylor Swift? That
wouldn't be Taylor Swift. She canjust she can just move her mouth while
someone else sings. She's really goodat it. Oh dang, oh snap,
got him? What if what ifhere two worlds unite? What if
(18:00):
she moves her mouth and Dave Grohlsings backstage, and then it's like it's
for everybody, you know, Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got a
question that's kind of related to thislater on. I don't want to burn
it now, but I will Iwill later this. Hold your hold your
thought on that. If they didthe national anthem O, we're in a
realistic spot. It can't be TaylorSwitch. It's got to be somebody like
stoic, somebody important but not polarizing. It's got to be somebody, somebody
(18:26):
that people don't have strong opinions about. Oh, because you can't have that
stealing the show. You know,we're united by love and hatred. So
maybe it can be someone that universallyis disliked. So who would that be
Roseanne bar No, because you gotcanceled, so a lot of people are
just like, I'm team Roseanne allof a sudden. That would be That
would be a that would be ayou'd have to balance that one out.
(18:48):
I think that would be in theTrump camp if Roseanne bar got up there.
Yeah, you're right. She didthat stand up special if you want
to call it that. But shedid that stand up thing for the fire
one of their channels. One ofthe deep channels, like the ones that
you need, like a into thetwo hundreds. Uh yeah, okay,
So I'm looking at some debate odds. Okay, are you are you ready?
(19:12):
This? This is users can predictwhat Trump and Biden will say and
the probabilities of these words being said. I'm going to give you a word.
You tell me what the probability isthis is going to be said at
least once? Okay, Inflation,oh for sure, ninety six six four
people for four percent. The probabilityof inflation being said that apparently there's four.
(19:34):
If they did this debate one hundredtimes, apparently four times that word
wouldn't be brought up. No,not a chance. Climate change, yeah,
it'll it'll be said at least oncezero to one hundred percent. Oh
uh. The probability that I thinkfor both of these for me seventy one
seventy one. Do you think COVIDis going to be mentioned more or less
based on these probabilities than climate change? More or less? Oh? I
(19:57):
see what you mean. Probably asin probability, I think more it is
correct. In seventy seven, whatabout student loan in relation to COVID,
which is seventy seven percent. Wouldthe word student loan or the words student
loan be said more or less less? Trick question, it's the same seventy
(20:18):
seven percent. Obamacare. It hasto be said Obamacare, not Affordable Care
Act. It's got to be saidObamacare. That's how they wager they have
to say the word exactly. I'dsay fifty to fifty on that one.
Forty nine, Okay, nice,I'm a man of the people. Nice,
well done, Well done. Gamblershave risked over one hundred thousand dollars
on what Donald Trump is going tosay. Here's some of the probabilities of
(20:41):
what Trump says. Percentage of probabilitythat he says fake news. Hmmm,
I say like sixty sixty five, okay, crack that he says crack.
That Trump says the word crack,he has to say it, right.
I'm gonna say forty on that one. Twenty four okay, yeah, I
(21:03):
thought it'd be low. Twenty ortwenty four for that one. The probability
that Trump says the word either jailor prison, m like with the context
of what how he would bring thatup. But he has to say the
word jail or prison. There's alot of different ways you can say that
to mean different things. So I'llsay, like eighty sixty nine, okay,
(21:23):
nice, rigged, oh ninety ninepoint nine? They only have sixty
one. That's the most obvious, obvious pet like pick Like, there's no
way he doesn't say rigged. Yeah, what about felon? Yeah, like
seventy six thirty five? I thinkit's five. Yeah. That's that's for
Trump, though, if we're talkingabout Biden, I don't have a list
(21:47):
of the words that he potentially wouldsay and what the probability are, but
I figure he's going to as likeeighty or ninety percent for him, yeah,
because he's going to bring that upover and over again. Well,
here's just a few of these words, and we're paying close attention to this.
We'll get more into what or maynot be something that we're looking for
tonight and we'll do that and Igot a question. I'm going to keep
it light, and we also havea giveaway to give you. So there's
(22:07):
just so many different reasons to listen. Why would you go anywhere? Don't
go anywhere? News Radio eleven ten, kfa B and Maurice Sohner on news
Radio eleven ten kfab first round waslast night a guy named what's his name
or a Satcher, Zachary Sacher,Zachary Resacher. Well it's French, so
Zachari ris Che has this spelled researchResatcher is what it looks like. Well,
(22:33):
you don't pronounce the R first off, what do you mean We can
talk about France French French as alanguage later, but dude, spell you
pronounced the rs just different? No, you do not with that one rissas
that's what it is. Yeah, but you said Shambo ris I was talking
about the first star. I thoughtyou were talking about the firstar, not
the last r uh. The secondpick was also a France guy. You
(22:56):
know that they went first and secondAlex Sar. It's a lot easier to
say sorr Alex sor. He dopronounce those rs? Yeah, different and
when there's two are yeah, whenthere's two rs, it's different. Right.
But anyway, we were talking aboutKyle Philipowski getting invited to the green
room. Is a duke guy didn'tget picked. That's embarrassing, but he's
probably gonna go early. You knowwhat time it starts in eight minutes,
(23:19):
that's too early. The second round, which is going to include one of
the better college players in this pastyear, Kyle Philipowski, and then probably
Bronni James at some point, rightlike somebody's taking him. Those two guys
are going to go at some point. It's going to happen mid afternoon on
a win on a Thursday. Sodo they do the thing in the second
round where like notable like members ofthe fan base or organization get to announce
(23:40):
the picks? Who knows and whocares? Nobody's gonna be watching it.
Well, I'm just setting this upto say Lakers need to pick Bronny in
the second round, and bron needsto announce it. Do they need that
would be a great moment? Dothey need to Broun goes to the podium
and says, I would like todraft my son. The Lakers have the
fifty fifth overall pick right now.But there were so many trades of picks
(24:03):
that I mean, you don't itdoesn't even matter. Yeah, like they're
they're gonna be moving all over theplace. Who cares? Anyway, back
to the debate, the debate comingup tonight. I was telling you about
this stuff, but what are youlooking for? Right? Like we were
talking about some stuff that could theoreticallyhappen. What are you looking for,
though, Are you looking for Bidento to say something or do you think
that Donald Trump is going to dothey shake hands? Like, do you
(24:26):
think that there's gonna be a cordialshaking of the hands when they get on
the stage together. I don't thinkso. I mean, it's against their
brands, right, they can't theycan't be nice to the other guy.
Yeah, it's just gonna be moremore anger put out in the universe.
What else they said? They'd givehim a bottle of water? Will the
water be branded? Do you thinkthere's water brands that did the bidding to
(24:47):
try to be the water bottle that'son the lectern? Because if I'm the
guys that are in bottling plants andlike I'm the Coke brand and I got
Dasani, like I'm calling them upand saying, CNN, what's it gonna
take for us to have to sanywater bottles these lecterns? Aren't you?
Isn't that business? Isn't that goodbusiness for both of them? Think?
I think yes, I think absolutely, I think there's going to be a
branded water bottle that is on thereand it'd be hilarious if they do what
(25:11):
the athletes do that don't like thebrand of drink that's on the stage or
the table, and they just takeit and put it down so that they
don't get the advertising. And thento somebody from CNN run out there and
like they paid for this, yougot to put it up there. I
mean, how funny would that be? Capitalism? But right before our eyes?
Anyway, you want to talk aboutcapitalism, you know what you should
(25:33):
do? Hey, hey, whatardy? You should go to a car
show. Yeah, July fifty toseventh, a good guy's car show back
in the morning at the Iowa StateFairgrounds. I have two tickets, actually
four tickets. It's a four pack, four pack of general emission tickets for
a single day at the thirty thirdSpeedway Motors Heartland Nationals. And in honor
(25:53):
of the sixty nine percent that DonaldTrump potentially could say prison or jail as
according to one sportsbook, the sixtyninth caller is gonna win these four tickets.
So if you want to go tothe thirty third Speedway Motors Harland Nationals
presented by BASF at the Iowa StateFairgrounds July fifth through the seventh, you
need to call us right now.Sixty ninth callar to four oh two five
(26:15):
five eight eleven ten four oh twofive five eight eleven ten four oh two
five five eight eleven ten. Winnergets four tickets. Next on news Radio
eleven ten kfab
