(00:00):
Senator Fisher as always a pleasure.Welcome to the show. I am ray,
so good to see hear you.Yeah here, see you. But
we should zoom sometimes, shouldn't they? Yeah, no, that'd be great.
Hey, And just just for clarificationso nobody gets it twisted, because
apparently this is something I have todo. Now. You didn't actually give
me any questions to ask you today, did you. No? No,

(00:20):
you guys always surprised me with yourquestions. All right, all right,
there we go. Now we gotthe credibility up and running. I have
to ask, though, on thatfront, a lot of dissension growing in
the Democratic Party. Were not quitetwo weeks since the disastrous debate performance by
Joe Biden. What's it like inWashington right now? And what are you

(00:41):
hearing from your Democratic colleagues about this? You know, it's interesting to watch
this because the media usually doesn't cornerDemocrat senators here. So for this week,
we've seen our colleagues on the otherside of the aisle be cornered by
the that hangs out in the UnitedStates Capital all the time. And they're

(01:04):
getting a taste of what I wouldsay Republicans get all the time. They're
getting questioned and they're getting follow up, and I think it's really ironic because
first of all, nobody should besurprised at what we've seen. And for
our Democrat colleagues to act surprise thatPresident Biden is having these issues, for

(01:27):
the media to act surprised and shotthat our president is having all these issues,
I can't believe that it's a surpriseto any of them. I don't
know if you saw George Clooney's letteror essay that he wrote for the New
York Times today, but I meanhe really says, Hey, I was
at a fundraising it for Biden afew weeks ago, and that was the

(01:49):
same guy I saw at the debate. It's insane that the party is telling
us that we're seeing what we're notseeing what we think we just saw.
What does it say about kind ofwhere the status of maybe not even just
the Democratic Party, but politics ingeneral, where it feels like we the
American people, are getting gas lightedall the time, that things aren't exactly

(02:10):
what we think they are, andwe're being lied to and being led to
a different conclusion than what our eyesor ears are telling us. Well,
I think it's I think it's hilariousthat that George Clooney raised what twenty eight
million dollars for a man that heknew at the time wasn't capable of being

(02:31):
president of the United States. Ican't believe. I can't believe George Clooney
even said that. Doesn't he realizethat he looks pretty pretty darn foolish making
comments like that. Like you said, Emory, we've all seen this.
You know, I don't get invitedto the White House. I don't know

(02:51):
too many of my Republican colleagues whodo get invited to the White House.
But just watching what all of usis citizens and country watch, we've seen
them. The president, you know, trip Fall get garbled up in his
comments, look lost on the stage. President Obama had to help him off

(03:13):
the stage. I just think it'sthey're they're testing the American public. And
when I say they're testing, Ithink Democrats, the media, and this
administration who's probably every member of itparticipated in the biggest cover up this country
is seen. And I remember Watergate. They can't fool us, they can't

(03:37):
fool us. We're you know,we see it, we hear it,
and the American people know what's goingon. Speaking with Senator deb Fisher from
Nebraska on our phone line today,Senator I, I don't want to spend
the entire time talking about this, but there's a growing worry within the Democratic
Party that they'll lose if Biden isthe nominee. The only way he really

(04:00):
can help them out is by justsaying he's no longer running for reelection.
Has there been any whispers as towho that, like another person might be
that could hop in at this latestage, or is it just kind of
assumed that it would be Kamala Harris. Oh, we're here in a lot
of rumors. But here again, you know, I'm waiting for somebody in

(04:21):
the media here in Washington, dC. To ask this question. If
you, as a Democrat, feelthat President Biden should not be running for
president because he is incapable of doingthe job, why aren't you saying right
now that he's incapable of finishing thisterm that he if he can't run for

(04:44):
the office, how can he servein the office. And nobody here is
even saying that. So I amextremely worried about that, because why we
can talk about the politics, wecan talk about who's going to step in.
The biggest thing I'm worried about,Emory is the danger that our country
is facing right now because we havea number of adversaries. We have peer

(05:09):
adversaries with China and Russia. We'vehad China President she say that he wanted
his military ready to go into Taiwanand invade Taiwan by twenty twenty seven.
I would think that there are discussionsgoing on in Beijing right now about well,
maybe we shouldn't wait till twenty twentyseven. When you see Kaos in

(05:32):
the White House, in the administration, chaos in the leadership of this country.
You know who's running, who's runningthe place. This is now common
knowledge, not just here in theUnited States, but all around the world.
Well, on that front, thereare world leaders that have made their

(05:53):
way to the United States and toWashington as the NATO summit. Basically,
you know, look at seventy fiveyears of this alliance and what that means
and what it has meant for quiteliterally you know, three quarters of a
century. Is there something that maybesome of these leaders that are here for

(06:14):
this NATO summit are kind of lookingfor from our president or are they saying
that you know or are you gettingthe interpretation from what we've seen so far
that Biden isn't considered amongst the eliteleaders of the world at this point,
even if he is the President ofthe United States. You know, I
was with a small group and wehad a meeting earlier this morning with the

(06:40):
Chancellor of Germany, the new PrimeMinister of the UK, the President of
Finland, and the Prime Minister ofSweden, along with the General Secretary of
NATO. They are not going tocomment on our president. They aren't going
to get into any kind of gushin there, but they wanted to know

(07:03):
just where we are, where weare as as the Senate, where we
are looking to NATO and be ableto continue the strong, strong alliance that
we have that has kept this countrystate. They understand that it is important

(07:25):
just that the United States be aleader in the world. The world is
safer, but they also understand thatthey have to step up, and I
give President Trump credit for that.He when he first met with NATO,
he was pretty darn blunt about themneeding to meet their obligation, which is

(07:46):
to spend two percent of their GDPon their own military preparedness, and over
half of the members now do that. We're only a handful died before.
So they the people wet with frommajor countries, they were very, very
forthright. All of them have metthat and they will continue to grow their

(08:09):
own security spending and their own involvementin NATO, and I think that comes
from President Trump. So what they'relooking at is, you know where we
are as a Senate, what youknow, they'll they're somewhat curious about well,
they're very curious, to be honest, very curious about what's going on

(08:31):
with politics here in the United States. But they are also respectful of our
process and that they shouldn't be involvedin it. We make our own decisions,
we make our own choices. Wehave a democracy that works. We
have an election coming up and thepeople of this country will decide who will
be the president, dev Fisher orSenator from Nebraska. Last thing for you

(08:54):
just to kind of tie all ofthat together as we prepare for a very
hot at election season obviously, andwe have the conventions for both parties still
yet to go, and allegedly asecond debate between the two parties. There's
a lot of seats that are upfor grabs, and a lot of people
saying that, you know, eitherparty could end up really with control of

(09:16):
both chambers or either chamber. Atthis point. There's a lot of talk
about the lack of leadership at thetop of the Democratic Party, how that
could potentially cost them some seats. You're not necessarily worried about Democrats per se
but in this state at least foryour seat. But if you could say
something to the American people and thepeople of Nebraska listening to our show right
now, what would you say arethe optimistic things that you're seeing as we

(09:41):
head toward November and what should bea very hostile environment politically as we get
closer to election day. I amvery encouraged always by the involvement of Nebraskans.
Nebraskans are informed, they're involved, they are educator on issues. They
are not sy about talking to meabout what they are interested in. You

(10:07):
know, I'm in the state everyweekend, meet with Nebraskans, always in
traveling the state, and so peoplecome up to me all the time.
We have a number of activities allacross the state, and my job is
to listen to Nebraskans and so Ithink I understand the issues that they're concerned

(10:28):
about, and number one is theborder. Number two is the cost of
living. People don't have money intheir pocket anymore. They're worried about the
safety of their families with crime,They're worried about the safety of this country
because of the chaos that's going onin the world now. But I am

(10:50):
encouraged by the fact that Nebraskans areinvolved, and I think that's extremely important,
and it gives me hope when youhave people involved that we have an
educated we have an educated population thatunderstands what's at stake in this election,
and they will vote not just withtheir hearts, but they'll vote with their

(11:16):
minds as well. Senator deb Fishercouldn't say it better myself. Thanks so
much for the time. Always apleasure to talk with you and get some
updates on what's happening in Washington,DC. And I'm sure we'll talk to
you again sometime very soon. Soundsgreat, Amory. Thanks
