(00:00):
Do you know John Tesh. Yeah, he apparently just this week has re
recorded Roundball Rock to be used forthe Olympic Games this year and for not
this coming NBA season, but theseason following when the NBA returns to NBC
on a weekly basis. I hopeit is a carbon copy of the original,
because you can't top that. I'msure it'll just be a failure.

(00:22):
Like you know how ESPN and theirNHL coverage and they got the NHL back,
they went back to the original theme, but just had it re like
touched up, like you know thatsong. I'd have to hear it,
but I'm sure i'd be familiar, dumb. But we should do ticket giveaways

(00:45):
and have you just like sing atheme song and have somebody guess and guess
what it is. Of course.Yeah, well I will tell you this.
Okay. So here's the thing Ihave this. This is a social
question, this is a social conversation. There is a professional wrestler and yes,
we're about to talk about professional wrestling. I am wearing an nWo Wolfpack
shirt. Yeah, like Kevin Nashand Scott Hall and the Red and the

(01:08):
Black. Now that's a theme songright there. Yeah, it was.
It was a good theme song. Here you go. I like wrestling.
There is a wrestler named Kenny Omega. Have you heard of him? No?
Kenny Omega is like is a greatathlete. Professional wrestling looks a lot
different than it did twenty five yearsago. But Kenny Omega thirteen years ago
today, which would have been twentyeleven, he would have been probably in

(01:29):
his late twenties, maybe early thirties. And Kenny Omega wrestled a nine year
old girl in Japan. This nineyear old girl was in a wrestling class,
and I don't know if that's evenallowed now because of all the physicality
that you have. You know, usually you don't get trained wrestle in this
country at the very youngest, atlike sixteen, and usually you're doing self
training at that point. Most peoplewon't really like legitimate professional wrestling training.

(01:53):
They won't take anybody who's younger thaneighteen. But there are a lot of
different like independent promotions all this stuff, And I know Japan a very different
culture than we do in Kinne Omegahe's a Canadian. He works in North
America for all Elite Wrestling, andhe's done a lot of stuff in Japan,
but he did a wrestling match withthis nine year old girl, which
was basically a showcase of, youknow, the skills that she was learning

(02:14):
in this class. However, professionalwrestling is kind of supposed to look like
a fight, doesn't it. Yeah, so he's taken all these moves from
this nine year old girl. He'sa two hundred pound man. Fundamentally speaking,
I can understand wanting her to beable to show off her skills against
a you know, regular, safe, legitimate professional wrestler. However, is
this not a little bit weird? The grown man is, you know,

(02:34):
doing wrestling moves and power bombs andall this stuff with a nine year old
girl, not only the physicality that'sinvolved, but then to make a mockery
of the business like that, Like, yeah, like a nine year old
girl could be doing all this stuffto a grown man. What's the story.
Did she stumble upon some sort oflike powerful you know, amulet that
gives her great strength? I guessthey could have done that, but unfortunately

(02:55):
that doesn't appear as to what happenedhere. This is literally just, Hey,
this girl's doingrestling school. She's nineyears old, she's pretty advanced.
That's what we want to show everybodylike what she can do. And also,
I'm sure Kenny o'mega is like, hey, look at me. I
can you have a wrestling match that'slegitimate with a nine year old? Because
it's not about looking dominant anymore. It's about having a very competitive and exciting

(03:15):
wrestling match. Where are the writerson this? This was a slam dunk
opportunity to create a really cool backgroundstory for someone who's only nine years old
and only can get cooler and cooler. I'm telling you, like, it
doesn't matter who you have in thesemovies, in these wrestling arenas or whatever,
it's all writing. You got tocome up with compelling content. Mmmmm,
I know a good writer you.I'm just saying you want to go

(03:38):
over. I mean, this isthirteen years ago, and I'm sure you
know there's plenty of good wrestling stillor I don't know if this is good,
but plenty of wrestling going on inparts all over the world. You
want to get your hat into thering for that? Oh, I can
write some compelling wrestling storylines. Yeah, Will you write a nine year old
girl wrestling a man for no reason? No? Because that's what's happened.
That's what this was. It seemsa little problem, is it weird?

(04:00):
Yeah, if this was anywhere else, and you know how you have to
deliver like a power bomb and likea like you grab like somebody's head to
like stuff their face into the turnbuckle, right, like, yeah, those
kinds of things, like there areways to take the move that that person's
not really throwing you like that. But it's kind of like the thirty year

(04:21):
old guy doing this to a nineyear old. Now, of course she's
in on it, and she's deliveringmoves if you want to call them that
to him that he's selling and actinglike he's being hit with. But he's
also doing the kicks and all thisstuff to this girl, which just tells
you that this isn't real stuff.I mean, he's not actually hitting her,
but he just tells you, like, oh, professional wrestling, absolutely
nothing is connecting with this. It'sjust problematic all this physicality between a thirty

(04:45):
year old and a nine year oldgirl. And also you're like taking a
big old duke on the business ofprofessional wrestling for those of us who really
enjoy the competitive aspect of it.And to top it off, zero story
going into it, except this isa nine year old girl learning wrestling move.
That's it. There's no hindrance tothe guy. He's not like got
one arm tied behind his back oranything like that. What are you thinking
about? I see you're thinking overthere. No, I don't want to

(05:06):
say, just say it. I'mabout to be problematic? Are you problematic?
That's fine, I'm worried about theconsequences. Which consequences? Well,
I'm just sitting here wondering. Arethere little people wrestlers? Like little people?
Yes, like full grown adults whoare small. Yeah, yes,
really all over the place. Butdo they get to fight in tandem?
Because I would think if you're alittle person wrestler, you should be able

(05:28):
to have at least two or threeand you all count as one. That's
not how this works. Oh andthey can all stack up and then there
are a full full full height. You did get problematic there? Yeah,
No, that's not problematic. That'sjust a good idea, good writing.
How would they even be able todo that? Like, how would you
be able to deliver a kick?I mean there was a there was a
little person wrestling named Hornswoggle in WWE. Really you know how Sewn Michaels do

(05:49):
sweet chin music, like his finishingmove like he'd kick a guy right in
the chin every single time called sweetchin music. Yeah yeah, Hornswoggle had
sweet shin music. He can onlykick guys in the shin because how small
he was and his leg couldn't read. All he needed was two brothers.
They could stack up and then they'retall. How would that help his legs?
They could roll around and do allkinds of moves. One of them
to get behind the other one theypush them over. I feel like we

(06:12):
have definitely gotten problematic. All right, Well, if you have terrible professional
wrestling ideas, I guess now's thetime to call four roh two, five
to five, eight to eleven ten. We'll I'll get probably detained together on
this on news Radio eleven ten.Kfab I have no idea who she is
or where she is at this point, but apparently she wanted to do this
one thing in front of a crowdand was able to do so thanks to
k Omega. And now we're justthrowing out weird wrestling ideas because that's what

(06:35):
we do here on this show issometimes we get ourselves distracted. I spent
two and a half hours talking hardcorepolitical things because that's what my life is
now. I need to change thisup. So please forgive me for a
need to talk about something else fora bit. Phil's on our phone out
of four h two, five, five, eight to eleven ten, Phil,
thank you for calling in. What'son your mind? Yeah? That's
Rehope? Is it? So?She wrestles? That's Reho's not that's not

(07:00):
the same That's not the same girlthough, right it is? Let me
let me look it up. Letme look let me at least what storyline
it, right, Okay, sincethe beginning was that that's free hoo.
Okay, I got you, Igot you? Okay. So I just
looked it up. It's not herthough, it's not, it says I
just I looked it up on Google. H She is a Japanese professional wrestler

(07:24):
who started at the age of nine. But she was nine years old in
two thousand and six, so she'slike five years older than the girl that
we're talking about right now, Okay, because because Kenny wrestled her. Also,
I know what do you think aboutthat? Phil? Do you do
you do you like Kenny wrestling? These smaller girls. No, no,
I don't. I think it's kindof creepy. But he also came out

(07:48):
about uh guy guy that's running oneof the women's wrestling in Japan and spoke
out that that guy was creepy. So I don't know if there's something that
he knows because of that. Yeah, that's weird. Yeah, it's creepy
to me though. Yeah, I'mwith you on that, Phil, I
think I think I agree. Ithink it's just creepy. Appreciate you calling

(08:11):
in man, Thanks for listening toour show today. Yep, Tony's on
our phone line four two, five, five, eight to eleven ten.
Hey Tony, what's good? HeyMarie? How's it going. I don't
like to hate, but what iswhat is competitive? A fake wrestling?
And why is it? Grown manlike yourself a celebrity watching that? Still?
Come on? Uh, Tony,do you have a favorite like TV

(08:31):
show? Listen? I used tolike wrestling, you know, Ho Cogan,
you go back in the day, twelve years old. Then I grew
up a little bit. I mean, I'm not hating. It's good if
you like it. I just youuse competitive yeah yeah yeah, yeheah yeah
yah yeah yeah. Yeah, competitiveis in like it's a it's a competitition.
It's supposed to look like a competition, Tony. And if like a

(08:52):
competitive basketball game would be like ninetynine to ninety five, right, like
it'd be close, and like itlooked like both people are getting moves in
or both teams are scoring on eachother. That's what competitive in this terminology
would mean, not like they're actuallycompeting. They're they're obviously doing a little
dance if you will, with thesemoves. But it's supposed to simulate a

(09:16):
combative hand to hand combat, footto foot combat kind of thing, and
when both people are getting some offense. And that's what we would call a
competitive wrestling match. Now, asfar as wrestling these days, wrestling to
me is like a TV show withlive athleticism involved. If you like the
Sopranos, was James Gandolfini, He'snot actually Tony Soprano. He's not really

(09:39):
Tony like like when they say cut, he's just James Gandolfini. You're picking
up what I'm putting done, youdon't know, like the Wet bandit's in
home alone, you know, likeJoe PESHI wasn't actually that stupid. He
pretended to be a stupid guy fora couple of hours for our entertainment,
and you laugh and you get madat him. That's kind of how i've

(10:00):
professional wrestling. It's really just ashow of entertainment, not necessarily anything that
you know, it's like, oh, wow, this guy is a you
know, like the best grappler inthe world. No, it's just,
you know, kind of a funthing to be entertained by, if you
know what I mean. So youlike watching live acting basically with sweaty dudes
and slimming each other. Yeah,Yeah, there's a lot of athleticism to

(10:22):
it, and if they can tella good storyline for why they're angry at
each other or going for a beltor a championship or something like that,
and they can make it look reallykind of believable with all the different moves
that they do. I do.I enjoyed it, and it's a lot
more fun when you have a bunchof friends that like it too. And
I do have a good group offriends, and we always talk about what's
going on in the wrestling shows, just like many people. There was a
TV show called The Talking Dead, which was literally just people talking about the

(10:46):
latest episode of The Walking Dead thatjust aired. You know what I mean,
I just I just wanted to knowthe mindset. But I'll let it
slide in, all right, allright, I appreciate it, Toty,
thanks for listening to us. Yeah, I did it do a good job
of explaining that, Yeah you did. I mean, that's a great analogy.
Like a you know, you getinvested in these characters, but they're

(11:07):
not real, And it's the samething with this invested in the characters in
the storyline the drama exactly. Youknow, we all know that the actual
wrestling matches themselves and the stories thatare being told, you know, those
are being those are done in avery different way than a real competition would
be. But that doesn't necessarily meanthat you can't still be entertained by it.

(11:28):
Like if they did a professional football, right, if there was professional
football out there, and pro football, you knew that the games were pre
organized and they were able to pulloff the different ups and downs that a
professional game may have. I mean, you might have a poll there you
might be like, oh, wow, you know it's still entertaining. I'm
still enjoying watching this, right. How about this other thing, like the

(11:50):
thing about boxing, and sometime sometimeswhen you talk about you know, like
professional boxing or an MMA fight orsomething, a lot of that stuff's very
boring or it's one sided. There'snot a lot of competitiveness between the two
of them. There's not an elementof quite unpredictability about maybe what's going to
happen next. And these guys areso good at what they do that they're
able to do all this safely whilemaking it look like it's like it's real,

(12:15):
while at the same time telling astory that is going to keep you
on the edge of your seat throughoutthe event, and that's the entertainment factor
for professional wrestling. Makes sense tome. So for all my wrestling nerds
out there, I salute you.Four x two, five, five,
eight, eleven ten is the numberwill take more calls into the five o'clock
hour and give you a cut upon some of the latest news that has
been permeating today, because there's plentyof it. We'll be doing that as

(12:37):
well, So stick around. Anotherkeyword coming up for a chance to win
a thousand bucks on the way aswell on news radio eleven ten KFAB
