Speaker 1 (00:00):
One person that's in one of those races has been,
you know, representing this fine state for a while now
joining us on the phone line. It's always an honor
to speak with Senator deb Fisher joining us on the
phone line. Senator Fisher, once again, thanks so much for
being on our show.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Oh you bet good to visit with you, Emory.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Okay, So let's just go ahead and talk about what
life is like for somebody who's in the midst of
a campaign. I know that, you know life is in Washington,
d C. Especially for people who are up for reelection.
It's pretty crazy the last six months, but you know,
leading up into that election. But you're also trying to
you know, do your job while you're still sitting as
an active senator. So take me through kind of what

(00:36):
the last few months has been like for you and
how you kind of balance that out.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Well, you know, I love my job. It's an honor
to represent Nebraskans in the US Senate. I love traveling
the state. In August, we were in over thirty communities.
We made over one hundred stops. My husband, Bruce drives.
We do that every August and it really is the
best part of the job to be able to act
with Nebraskans and listen to their concerns. But we're continuing

(01:05):
to do the job now in October as well, we're
doing official events as well as being out campaigning, trying
to get out the vote. Here in the last eighteen
days before the election. Again, we're all over this state
and yeah, I feel pretty good about where we are
and Nebraskans are always welcoming, so it's been good to

(01:29):
be out in the state.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Can I ask what the difference is when you're running
in an election like this one where you know you're
kind of you're the incumbent, but is also you know,
seemingly not a super competitive race. But now we're hearing
a lot more ads, so like late Buys on the
other side, we're hearing even you know, the man himself,
Tom Osborne in an ad supporting you as well. You know,

(01:52):
you talk about kind of how this ramped up, and
I know every election is a bit different. What is
it like doing it as the incumbents when you're running
for election to try to gain an office.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Well, you know, when you're running for an office, you
try and get out and visit with as many people
as possible and talk about what you want to do
in office. When you're in office, you're doing the job.
And I like to talk about policy and what we're
working on with Nebraska's in Washington trying to get accomplished.
But this race, it's been different, you know. The last

(02:26):
couple of months, My gosh, we've seen millions of dollars
coming in from out of state. There's been a number
of articles on the dark money that's coming in for
my opponent. You look, I was looking at Facebook today.
I had a friend say, you know, have you seen
this on Facebook? And they sent me something and it
shows the out of state money coming in for my

(02:50):
opponent and only eight percent of this money coming from Nebraska,
where I have a.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Quarter of my money coming from Nebraska.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
I think that that shows where we are. I just
had somebody send me an article by the Flatwater Free Press.
Jeremy Turley wrote one about this new supposed publication out there,
the Nebraska Independent, that trying to portray itself as a newspaper.

(03:20):
The Flatwater Free Press calls it pink slime journalism. It's
obviously attacking me, attacking Don Bacon, attacking President Trump. It's
a campaign arm for Democrats, I would say, and for
the independence supposed independent who's running against me.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
We're speaking with Senator Deb Fisher from Nebraska. You know.
So the state of this race, obviously is we have
eighteen days until election day. Your race is one of many,
many dozens that we're going to be paying attention to
on a local level, and many hundreds around the entire country.
But I feel like people nowadays, most of even maybe

(04:03):
on most, but a lot of the question is can
we even trust with the results of this election and
what this process is?

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Now?

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Every state has their own rules, But from a perspective
of somebody who's in Washington, d c. And has been
serving this country for a while, what do you say
to the people that don't have confidence in our election process?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
I think they need to become involved, you know, to
volunteer with the parties. A lot of time parties send
poll observers to certain precincts to be able to watch that.
I'm sure both Vice President Harris her supporters and I'm
sure President Trump is going to have his supporters at

(04:43):
polling places and CD two to watch it. I'm sure
they're going to have attorneys out there to be observers
as well. I don't worry about Nebraska. You know, I've
seen our races and obviously been involved in a lot.
My husband was a poll worker back in the day.

(05:05):
And to be able to have that state control, that really,
that local control, I think is so important. We see
Democrats in Washington on the Rules Committee, for example, where
I'm ranking member Amy Klobatar and Chuck Schumer, they want
elections taken over by the federal government. I am not

(05:28):
in favor of that. We need to keep state control
in local control of our elections so that we can
be close to those elections and be involved as observers.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yeah, there's no doubt, and I think that lends itself
to some confusion. But at the same time, you know,
that's us looking at what Michigan and Georgia and some
of these other states and what they're doing and trying
to figure out what their rules are. At the same time,
you know, it really is fifty separate presidential elections. We're
talking about that specific race because we go by state,
and even in Nebraska and Maine specifically, it's district to district.

(06:04):
Senator deb Fisher joining us on the phone line here,
there's a lot going on in the news, but obviously
it's been dominated by the Harris versus Trump battle. Have
you noticed any kind of trends as you know, you see,
I know that you're worried and focused on serving Nebraskans
but also your own race. But has there been anything
that you've seen as far as the federal presidential race

(06:26):
goes to you know, kind of forecast what you expect
in a few weeks.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Well, you know, I'm watching the news just like everybody
else and being able to listen to the different polling
that's out there, and it seems as though President Trump
is going to finish strong here.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
The polls are very very close. They talk about a
toss up here in the race. Obviously, I am supporting
Donald Trump because he has a great track record. He's
got a good track record on immigration, on the border,
on the economy, on foreign policy. You know, we used
to have a more secure border. The world used to

(07:06):
be a safer place. American families, Nebraskans were not struggling
under the weight of inflation and the cost of the
grocery store and the gas pump and rent and everything
else in life that is causing strain and stress.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
For every family out there.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
And those are the concerns I have. But I think
President Trump is closing well. I can tell you in
the Senate races, we're looking forward to having a Republican
majority in the Senate. As I said, I feel good
about my race. The direction we're headed now is Nebraskans
learn more about my opponent and not just who he is,

(07:47):
but who he isn't. And we're seeing pickups in places
like West Virginia, Montana, even Wsconsin and Ohio, Pennsylvania look good.
I'm excited for election day and looking forward to going
back to Washington and working with President Trump for Nebraskans.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Not to put the cart before the horse here. But
what are some of the main things that you hope
to accomplish assuming that that happens, indeed the House is
still in Republican control, the Republicans gain control in the Senate,
and Donald Trump is elected President of the United States,
what would you think would be some of the topogenda
items that would be attacked early on in the new term.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Well, you know, I want to make sure that this
country is safe. I want to keep America safe. That
happens when we take care of our military men and women.
When we take care of our veterans, we have an
all volunteer force. We need to recognize the importance of
the people who serve this country and then provide them

(08:53):
with the resources they need. Is a second seniority on
the Armed Services Committee. I continue to push for what
we need to address the threats that we face as
a country. Looking forward to being able to lower prices
at the grocery store. I'm looking forward to having a

(09:16):
bigger say and how we're going to secure the southern border.
You know, you hear talk out there that you know,
some of us didn't didn't support the border security bill, Emery,
that was no border security bill. That was immigration bill.
That was an immigration reform bill. There was no border

(09:37):
security in that. It didn't provide funding to build the wall,
it didn't end catch and release, it didn't address the
President Biden's overreach and misuse of the parole authority that
he has. So that was no border security bill, and
I didn't vote for it because it didn't support the border.

(10:00):
Need to make sure that we have border security so
we can have a safer America. You know, I can't
go on on. We need a farm bill. It's going
to deliver for Nebraska egg producers, strength and crop insurance,
make sure we have voluntary conservation programs, trade and research.
There are so many things that we're going to be

(10:21):
able to do as a majority in the Senate, hopefully
working with the Republican majority in the House, and with
a White House that's going to be a Republican as well,
so we can look at rolling back regulations that are
just killing businesses, small businesses. So yeah, I'm looking forward

(10:43):
to election day because there is a lot of work
to do in January.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
We're going to be paying very close attention and it's
certainly one of the big races in Nebraska we're paying
attention to, of course, is Senator deb Fisher's thecumbent ticking
on self claimed independent Dan Ozy. I got to tell you,
Senator Fisher, as I mentioned, it's always an honor. I'm
so privileged to have a chance to speak with someone
like you, and I really appreciate you having some time

(11:08):
for us, especially during this busy time of the year.
I can't wait to chat with you again sometime soon.
And good luck with the rest of your campaign.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
Okay, thank you very much. Imri talk soon absolutely and
