Speaker 1 (00:00):
Back here on news Radio eleven ten kfab. I just
love talking about fun stuff, even though we're kind of
getting close to an election. You will recall that about
oh maybe six seven months ago, we talked about a
fun project that was happening for the city of Omaha,
and it was going to be on a game board, Yes,
Monopoly Omaha Edition, and it has been revealed as of today,

(00:24):
and Sarah Bowman with Top Trump's USA is joining us
right here in the studio. Sarah, thanks so much for
coming back, and you brought rich old uncle Penny Bags
with you.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yes, thank you guys for having us come back for
the full circle moment. We've got, of course, mister Monopoly
here and we just came from the grand reveal at
Baxter Arena.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Okay, So this is something that created quite a bit
of conversation as to what would and would not land
on this board. And man, we had some heated discussion
on the radio about where even where it would be
on the board. So I'm looking at it right now,
and I guess my big thing is what's the biggest
takeaway for people when they take a look at this
game board? Because I mean, I don't want to just

(01:04):
give a laundry list of the stuff that's on here. Yeah,
it is pretty cool the different sectors that are represented.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yes, Okay, So what we did when we came to
town in March, we depended on you, the community to
tell us what you wanted to see reflected in this
game that you your families will be playing for generations.
So it was a long task, but we tried our
very best to represent a well rounded balance of Omaha.
We've got charities, nonprofits, select esteemed businesses in your community

(01:36):
that are headquartered here, and so the task that we
had was breaking them up into color sets on the game.
You know you've got your red squares, your orange squares,
your light blue.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Well, those all have themes.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
So as you play through the board at home, you'll
see that when you pass go, the browns are going
to be things found in nature. So we've got a
couple parks, a couple gyms in Omaha. Light blue is
culture and heritage and boom, boom boom, it's three museums.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Pretty much.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Pinks are events and event venues. We've got retail and
shopping on orange food and drink on red family day out.
Oh my gosh, ballparks you and O and then you've
got your park place on boardwalk, which we settled on
the old Market and Mutual of Omaha.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Mutual of Omaha. I saw the picture, I was like,
what is that? Oh that's the that's the one they're
building right now.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Oh yeah, Because one thing that was really important to
us as we were designing this game was longevity. We
want this game to be played, like I keep mentioning,
for generations, and so we wanted imagery that's.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Going to reflect that.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
So when the new tower goes up, it's certainly not
going anywhere. So you can see the beautiful new Mutual
of Omaha tower on the board.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Okay, Sarah, So I look at this, and this is
certainly a big process. We talked about it and how
people could, you know, make suggestions and all this stuff
and what you settled on at different places of the
b I see here. The one thing that I don't have,
and I'm going to crack them open and we're going
to go through them, is the chance in the community
chess cards, which are such cool little additions to the

(03:12):
regular game itself, but you could probably have an awful
lot of fun with if you're messing around with a
local addition here, So can you give us a little
sneak peak as to what we can expect with those
chances in community Chess cards.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Oh yeah, everybody at home who's a Monopoly fan, we'll
realize that when you're sitting around that table and a
player has to pick up one of those cards, either
you owe them money or they're about to pay you money.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
So it's high stakes in the game. Yeah, So we've completely.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Customized those for Omaha, and my team spent so much
time talking to everybody in Omaha, and I picked up
on a couple things. So my favorite one personally, and
you'll find a bunch of these easter eggs while playing
the game, is one that the player picks up and
it says that you're penalized for trying to take a
left turn on Dodge.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Oh gosh, you possibly.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Do, and you have to go back three spaces, and
so I'm sorry to the unlucky player who gets that one.
But then we've also got really cool ones that mentioned
visiting the birth site of Malcolm X and brushing up
on your civil rights movement history. We've got a fun one,
you know, your traditional get out of jail free card. Well,
it being Nebraska ice is a real thing, so I

(04:22):
put we put Wow, these players are Nebraska nice.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
In fact, they're letting you get out of jail free.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
It's so great.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
So we've got all sorts of little things in there
that I'm excited for family and friends to play, and
the sort of find all the little easter eggs we
put in there for you guys.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
It's gonna be awesome. We're speaking with Sarah Bowman with
Top Trump's USA. And if you're wondering what Top Trump's
USA is, it's Hasbro's number one global licensing partner. Mister
Monopoly is here. Rich Uncle pennybags here. It's been I'm
sure it's been quite an odyssey for him as he's
made his way around Omaha. I have to ask, then,
now that the game is out, where there are some

(05:00):
of the places that people in the community can try
to locate this game, find this game, and then of
course enjoy it for the next several years with their families.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
This is one of my favorite parts.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
So throughout this entire edition, we are doing this to
celebrate the community of Omaha. Therefore, we encourage everybody to
shop local from a lot of the places on the board,
so retail wise, it comes to mind you can find
this game at any of the Maiden Omaha locations, Nebraska
Furniture Mark, Spielbound Board Game Cafe, that one's very fitting.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Love that, and as well as.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
The un O Bookstore, all those museums, gift stores, the
Parks Foundation, all over the place. But if you're wondering
where can I get this game in addition to that list,
just check out the board and the odds are you
combined from any one of those places.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
And we love this as well, the fact that it
is so local and you wanted to be celebrated as such.
Last thing I have for you, Sarah before I get
you out of here, and we'll put some stuff on
our social media for anybody who's listening so they can
see all of this is there, Like, this board is complete.
But is there a chance that maybe some other locations

(06:10):
somewhere in the nearby vicinity in America potentially get this
treatment as well?

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Oh for another city edition?

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yeah yeah, So really, when you go back to saying
who we are, we have been making city editions of
Monopoly all over the world internationally since the nineties.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Edinburgh was our very first edition. Oh that's yeah, random
plat and yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
So we started there and we've been to Cape Town
and Bangkok and Sydney all over the place. Well, we
just came to the United States. We kind of saved
the best for last, I like to think. So we
came to the US in twenty twenty. Right now, there's
only sprinkled a couple of handful, you know, of city
editions across the US. This is the first official license

(06:52):
edition in Nebraska for city editions. So I mean we
are all over the place. I know, like in New York,
we're breaking it up into burrows instead of just a
New York City because there's way too much to put
on one board. Of course, so we're all over the place.
And then I know, like we'll have a Fort Lauderdale,
Florida addition coming out later this year of Baton Rouge Louisiana.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
So we're sprinkled all over the place.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Maybe one day there might be a Lincoln, but we
want Omaha to have its moment first.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Oh absolutely, and we are going to eat that moment up.
This is awesome. You can find Omaha Auditional Monopoly available
at several places as Sarah mentioned, including everywhere on the board.
This is going to be a celebration for the city
and this is so cool. So Sarah Bowman topped Trump's
USA with us. Thanks so much for stopping in, and
we'll make sure to let everybody know how awesome this

(07:46):
game is once you know, I beat Matt in.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
About three four times exactly.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yeah, just carve out a solid five to six hours
of your weekend to play a full length not my team.
Thank you guys so much for having us and mister
Monopoly here.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
He's waving his hands. You can't see it, but it's grand.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
It's not a great radio guest, but just awesome company.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Nonetheless, Yes, thank you guys so much.
