Speaker 1 (00:00):
Our Pro Volleyball Federation champions of right here in Omaha,
the Omaha Supernovas their season in twenty twenty five. Their
schedule has been released and joining us is of course
an honor to talk to coach Laura Bird Kun. Coach Bird,
thanks so much for being back on the show today.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Hi there, how are you?

Speaker 1 (00:19):
I'm fantastic. Okay, So before we talk about the schedule
this year for the Supernovas, let's go ahead and just
kind of recap. It's been a few months since the
triumphant end to the first ever season of Pro Volleyball Federation,
which ended here in Omaha with the Supernovas raising the trophy.
It was quite an interesting playoffs. There had a lot
of people sweating, but all of a sudden champions of

(00:40):
this new league. How can you best describe the first
season of Supernova's Volleyball.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Wow, I mean it was exciting. Obviously it's a startup
at the new league. No one really knew what to expect,
but of course Omaha was kind of the epicenter. We
averaged ten thousand fans, which is so great. Our players
absolutely loved our volleyball community and just the way they
instantly became part of everything we were doing. We still
talk about that opening match against St. Atlanta Vibe, which

(01:08):
will happen again this year. We're going to open against
them again on January tenth. But that first match just
like told us the whole story of how their support
and our season was going to go, at least while
we were at home. So it was a great experience.
It was awesome to get to have the championship there
in Omaha. And yes, yeah, these semi finals. I think
both those matches were wild. Both went five sets, but

(01:29):
we ended up beating San Diego Mojo and then got
to play Grand Rapids in the championship and ended up
sweeping them three oh which was awesome for our first
season in the Pro Volleyball Federation. So we're excited to
run it back.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Yeah, it's going to be an awful lot of fun here.
One of the things that I think made this notable
was the ownership as well, and somebody like Jason Derulo
being a part of the ownership group, and of course
we've talked to Diane enden Hall as the team president
as well. Media an impact of legitimacy, not even with
just that, but the fact that we're playing these matches

(02:06):
in the Big Arena downtown and CCHI Health Center. What
about this organization made it stand seemingly head and shoulders
above the rest of this league with immediate impact from
the support and the fan base.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
I think it was a lot like we had a
lot of people within our organization, like you just mentioned Diane,
but Grant, Gallo and Kirk, Danny White, and then obviously
Jason Derulo he was there for the championship. But we
had a lot of people that are connected right there
in that community in Omaha and with Nebraska and Nebraska Volleyball,
and so we kind of had this foundation that we
could kind of jumpstart our organization and it's just a great,

(02:43):
great group of people. I mean, I love the relationships
that I got to build and start just in that
first season. And obviously we're all still locked in and
now we're we're going to run it back to the
second season and we're building a new roster. But the
nothing bolt, the pieces that we need that are part
of the organization that are making things go, Diane Grant,
Melissa Hanson, Jacob with tickets like we have still the

(03:06):
same to the core who we are within the organization
and it's such a special group of people.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Yeah, and I want to give a shout to my
guy Jeff Extrom as well, who is you know. I
love talking to Jeff about volleyball and the Supernovas as well.
We're talking with Coach Byrd, the head coach of the
Omaha Supernova's new team for this league this year. The
Indie ignite a couple more markets in for twenty twenty six.
But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, the
twenty twenty five schedule release, which will start on January

(03:33):
the tenth. A lot of home games on this and
you know, a brand new opponent, and the fact that
you've brought in a bunch of former Nebraska volleyball players
as well that people will be familiar with that they
follow the college game. Take me through coming some of
the previewing here of some of the highlights of the
offseason as we head into January.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah, I mean, our free agency was the month of June,
and so we obviously had and talk to a lot
of great players. But we are very excited to bring,
like you just said, three former Huskers. Brianna Holman, she
was playing overseas last year, Kaylea Cafey was playing in
Grand Rapids. They actually played up in the championship. She's
going to come back to Nebraska and play for us,
and then Caitlyn Hoard she's going to join us. So

(04:15):
we have a solid three middle lineup that are Huskers.
Our draft is coming up with then in November, like
there's opportunities for us to get some more Huskers on
our roster, and so we're just excited about bringing some
new talent but familiar faces back to Omaha and Nebraska
to play in front of some of their favorite fans.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Yeah, and when I look at the schedule, a couple
of things kind of stand out. Besides, you know, having
the home opener against Atlanta on January the tenth to
start out with, but it feels like you guys playing
two times a week, two times a week. But also
there's a big, you know run of home games as
you get kind of into the middle part of the
season toward like mid March. I think it's four straight

(04:55):
games against different opponents right here in Omaha. And there's
still kind of that wild card out there where the
playoffs are going to be held as well. So what
can you say about the schedule and maybe the trends
of the schedule and things that you think people need
to be paying attention to before they get their tickets
lined up.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
So if you're playing on getting season tickets, it's we're
up like a thousand season tickets, So go online and
check that out Supernovas dot com. But I think that
the consistency of our crowd and that home stretch that
you're talking about there is a great rhythm, and we
have way more weekend matches, which is huge for our
fan base. I know that was something that as a

(05:31):
league we tried to really look at when we developed
the schedule this year. So us playing at home, obviously,
we have four more matches than we did last year,
and we're starting about two weeks earlier, and so there's
plenty of opportunities for fans to get out and see
us play at Chi. But we're excited just because of
the rhythm. I mean, it's always fun to have a rhythm,
and like you said, it's more like a two matches

(05:53):
a week for us and get into a rhythm of
training and playing, and so we're excited about the matches,
the number of matches and how that schedule laid out
for us.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Okay, and then on top of that, I gotta ask,
how can people what are the easiest ways for them
to get their tickets for season tickets or also when
we get closer, you know, those single game tickets. What
are the websites or the apps that they need to
make sure that they have.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
So if you just go to Supernovas dot com, you
can find ticket availability, whether it's single or season tickets.
If you follow us on Instagram, Twitter, those links should
be connected to all of our accounts. So just check
out the Supernovas anyway you can find us online, The
Supernovas dot com is probably your best bet in order
to find your ticket.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
That's it pretty easy enough. Supernovas dot Com coach Laura
birdcun Champions in twenty twenty four, looking to repeat the
dose with awesome entertaining volleyball at the professional level here
in Omaha in twenty twenty five. Thanks so much for
hopping on with us. Happy Halloween to you as well,
and we'll chat with you again soon.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Yeah, Happy Halloween. You guys be safe all right?

Speaker 1 (06:55):
How about that coach Bird and those Supernova's looking to
try to repeat in twenty twenty five in the Volleyball Federation.
Gonna be an awful lot of fun and plenty of
local talent Nebraska, Creighton, and who knows how many more
who will be joining the FRAY after this upcoming draft
that they're going to have next month. Three forty five,
Matt Case told me we might be talking to one

(07:15):
