Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you get down about the news, Matt Case and

(00:01):
my producer, you're a pretty cheerful guy. The things I
see you depressed about mostly or you know, Nebraska football.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Oh, take that back. I'm at a very healthy place
with Nebraska football.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
That's what they all say.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Everybody has things that make them sad, and there have
been moments in my life where Nebraska football made me
very sad. I'll never forget that game against Colorado. I
was in high school and Colorado just smashed them into
pieces that never happened before, at least not that I'd
ever seen. I wasn't ready for it, you know what

(00:39):
I mean. Didn't I share a video that I saw
on Twitter? Yeh of like Arizona State was it? That
was a weird one, and that was That was the
game that was Scott Frost's I believe I'm right about
all this. That was Scott Frost's first game as the
Nebraska quarterback. And we also had come off of two
straight seasons where we'd won every single game and won

(01:02):
the National championship both years. And then we go into
that game against Arizona State. There was three safeties in game.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Three safeties. It's pretty crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
A very weird game, very bizarre, and Nebraska really laid
an egg, you know, and it was it was it
was bad news. I mean that that killed the three
peat right there, you know, yeah, back when the what
regular season actually mattered? Now you can win all the
games and apparently still aren't guaranteed a chance to make
it into the college ball playoffs, right, and makes sense
of that because now there's twelve but yet you'll go

(01:36):
undefeated and it means less. I don't know, it's strange.
In the old days.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
In the old days, that system that we all hated
so much, we allegedly all hated so much, you know,
you know what we did. The teams that won their
games had a chance to win the national Championship. Do
you think BCS is on Twitter right now being like
I would have had Indiana in and they're they're locked
in and like you blew it. I don't think the

(02:01):
BCS was a bad thing. I've always felt this way.
I think the flaw that the BCS had was that
people didn't understand the formula and only two teams got
a chance to play for the title. So if there
was a random third team that also was undefeated, tough luck, Buco.
You don't get a chance to play for the national championship. Okay,
that's controversial. You know what solves that having more teams
eligible to win the national title. You know, I don't

(02:24):
need these these suits that are in there, these administrators
on this college football Playoff committee arguing about who the
best team is when we have evidence on the field
as to how good some of these teams are.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
You know, Indiana is ten and zero.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
They're one of three unbeaten teams left in FBS college football. Yeah,
they have Ohio State this week, who it's a very
good team. They're nine to one their losses to the
number one team in the country. I'm not trying to
say that they're not very good. There are certainly the
only team on indiana schedule that you could look at
and be like, Okay, that ended up actually being a
really good team, although there were other teams that were

(03:00):
of quality preseason that just don't they didn't hold up.
Has anybody mentioned Penn State and all this? Can I
go through Penn State's Can I go through Penn State's
resume real quick? Sure?

Speaker 2 (03:13):
I hate to bring this up again, but you did it.
I did it.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
They beat West Virginia. Meh, right, Yeah, they beat Bowling
Green by seven. Bowling Green hung with them.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
The whole way, and Bowling Green notably a team that
does not have green in their uniforms.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
That's just one thing that's weird about them. Yes, but yeah,
I just saying, don't trust a team like that. You know,
they trust a team they almost beat Penn State.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
I don't trust. I don't trust like that.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
They being Kent State, who hasn't won a game all year,
including last night when they played some Tuesday night maction.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
They beat Illinois.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Illinois has been better than advertised, probably, but they are
twenty fifth in the Collegeble playoff rankings, so technically that's
a ranked win for Penn State. But they beat them
twenty one to seven at home. They beat UCLA and
USC at USC that USC game, the one by three
USC has been is going to barely be a be
eligible potentially. They beat Wisconsin, lost to that same Ohio

(04:07):
State team, and then kicked the tires off on Washington
and Purdue. They finished the season with Minnesota and Maryland.
How is that schedule that much better at all than
what Indiana has done this year? And they both could
have the same loss Ohio State, except Penn State would
have lost it at home, whereas Indiana potentially if they
lose this week and would lose it on the road.

(04:28):
And yet everybody's acting like Penn State, no doubt is
in a top they're a top five team, even though
there is no mathematical way unless Indiana beats Ohio State
and then loses to Purdue. I guess that Penn State
can work their way into the Big Ten championship. But
everybody's just like, yeah, they're top five team. And you
know how funny it is because before these super conferences,

(04:48):
back when the conferences were the right size and not
all obese. Let's just call it what it is. Yeah,
over super conferences, RFK Junior, get to work on that. Okay, yeah,
this it's not ast food. Let's slim these conferences down. Okay,
let's do that.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
We also, you know what we should do. We should
boot out the guys that don't belong there. How does
the Atlantic Coast Conference have California in it?

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Get them out? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (05:12):
What already talking about it?

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Well, back to the PAC twelve or whatever it was,
what are we talking about?

Speaker 1 (05:17):
You know, the Big Ten the Big Ten though, the
Middle America Conference, and I have to watch a Big
Ten matchup between the University of California, Los Angeles against
Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
It's not good. What are we doing here? But my
point there was we would have settled it on the
field if this conference was the right weight in size
for its body, and the West and Indiana would have
played Penn State and we would have known, right because
they all had to play each other.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, but the West East thing that they had when
they first added the Nebraska's, Maryland's Rutgers, that was not
a perfect system either. The whole thing is a sham.
College fotball is a sham. It's never been more of
a sham than it is right now. You know what
we ought to do is just go back to the
leather helmets. You know what we ought to do. We
should just abolish the sport. Maybe let's abolish the sport.

(06:09):
I don't think that's too far. Put. Let's let we
can play college football without calling it college football, and
then we can have these universities support or sponsor a
team that isn't even student athletes anymore. It's just guys
that want to play football, and instead of having them
have the ability every single year just to like opt
in or opt out to play with the team, they're
self red shirting now if they're not getting playing time
and they're announcing mid season that they're going to transfer

(06:30):
somewhere else. All this stupid bs that goes on in
college football. Now, well, let's sign them to contracts. You
want to be professional football players, Well let's do it
like they do in England and in Europe for young
soccer players. You're signed to our academy until somebody gives
us enough money to let you go, and then we
can send you somewhere else and we can do that.
Why don't we do that? How are you telling me

(06:50):
Indiana is any worse than Penn State is when they
didn't get a chance to play each other and they
both may have the same loss. Yet Penn State with
a very like maybe a moderately better schedule, but their
best win. Beyond that, Illinois is better than Indiana beating
all these other teams by fifty every single week. Illinois
is not a terrible win, there no break. But Indiana

(07:11):
is destroying these teams. You know what the closest win
was fourteen except that Michigan game. The Michigan game is
the only game that was within fourteen points. The Penn State,
they only beat Bowling Green by seven. They barely beat USC.
I just I don't know, man. I hate how we're

(07:32):
acting like pool Penn State. You know why, because we
know Penn State they've been good before. We don't want
to give somebody like Indiana credit and let them be
a part of this party. We're allowing Indiana at ten
and zero to be talked about like there's some bad
team while Notre Dame has a loss to a MAX
school on their schedule. Oh I hate this. So yeah,
the rankings came out in Indiana's still fifth. Where are
they gonna land if they lose to Ohio State and

(07:54):
then they don't play in the Big Ten championship game
if they tumble out of the top twelve. I will
I'll drive myself. I'll drive myself to wherever these people are.
I'm gonna knock on that door and say let me in.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
And you'll have a cordial conversation about your respectful differences
in opinion.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
No, no politics, yes, college football. No, you're ruining something
I actually love What about Texas? The Texas best win?
What Vanderbilt by three? Congratulations the one good team you
played your lots to.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
I hate this. I hate it.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
They ruined college football even with a twelve team playoff.
Indian just please win, please win. Save us all from
having to have this conversation.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
You know what they ought to do is outlaw the
forward pass. Oh let's go all the way back. Oh boy,
leather helmets and no forward pass. Yikes. Put the handlebars
back on the uniform. Rash. No, that was bad. That's
all bad, all right.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Anyway, I promise to have more fun with stuf that's
not football related coming up, so stick around on news
