Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's an interesting conversation about what's going on in the
world today, specifically with our roadways on Friday now when
the sun came out and melted it, that seemed to
work as well as sending out more trucks to try
to melt or you salt and do you have salt
at home that you can throw on like your walkways
and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
I was not prepared. But you get an F. Can
I get it like a C minus?

Speaker 3 (00:27):
No?

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Because I mean maybe if we're grading on a curve,
because I think most people probably were not prepared for
the severity. And the I do have salt. The salt
that I had somehow all molded together. It became basically
one giant salt block. And I just I was like,
what am I supposed to do with this? You know
how you get like a bag of ice and a
bunch of the ice just like sticks to like they

(00:50):
it melts just a little bit, and then as you
put it in the freezer and it repairs, it basically
creates like this big old block of ice that's like impenetrable.
It's just like a big old brick. Yeah, And you
try to break it up or like dropping it or
like smashing it or whatever. It didn't work. None of
that worked with the salt. I didn't know what to do.
I was like, I was trying to chisel some out
so I could just put it on like my walkway,

(01:11):
or at least for my dogs, who, by the way,
both bift it pretty hardcore. And my female wanted no
part to go outside. I mean, she just was like,
I don't like this. I put them in their big
winter coats, which I'll have to post a photo of
that at some point on my Facebook page, which you
can find Emory song or radio. But they have these

(01:32):
really big, thick coats and it wasn't so much about
the temperature as it was just a little bit of
protection in case they go down. They have very thin skin.
If they were to, you know, get scratched up or
slip and fall or something, that'd be a bad deal.
And they also have these long boots that go up
past like halfway up their leg, which also does a
good job of allowing them to walk around without cutting

(01:53):
up their feet. Well, my female dog basically goes outside
and stands on the porch, takes one step on stare,
realizes she has no you know, traction on it, stands
there and just looks at me with this innocent face,
like you're not gonna actually make me go out here, well,
are you? It's like, yeah, we got to do business.
So I tried to like walk her, walk her down,
and again, even if I had the salt, it wouldn't

(02:16):
have worked quickly enough. I should have put it down
ahead of time if I had good salt, and like I,
like we talked about, I wasn't super prepared, didn't have
the salt, was not in perfect condition or in great
shape for said situation. So what I ended up doing
was just kind of like helping get her down a
step or two. She's like nope, nope, nope. She kept
backing up and then she just jumped yeaded herself off

(02:39):
of like all six steps, landed of course on ice,
and all four of her legs kind of go different directions.
She biffs it and then pops right back up. I
made sure she was okay. There was no blood thanks
to the coat that I put on her as protection,
but not great. PJ tried to walk quicker and he
just biffed on his own as he went down the steps,

(03:00):
and he was okay. Too, but I felt bad for him, right, Like,
these are dogs. They can't understand what the heck is
going on here. They don't know why it's so slick.
It took another two days before my before the female
palmer even trusted that she could step out onto the
on of the stairs. She was so concerned. So yeah,
I don't know, but I'm gonna get like I got

(03:20):
to get an updated back of salt. Essentially, is my
h the point of that story. And on top of that,
I got to make sure it's the pet safe stuff,
you know, because you don't want the dogs to get
hurt from non pet safe salt that could be sitting
out there trying to give him a clean walkway. Four two, five, five,
eight eleven ten is the phone number we have, Paul
on the line. Paul, you got a story for us

(03:42):
about what happened Friday.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Unfortunately I do all right. What happened well, I decided
to go out and check the mail across the street
Friday night. That was my mistake, yep. I walked through
the grass to get to the street, and once I
put a foot on this, I slipped spell on my
stomach and I had to crawl on my stomach across

(04:07):
the street to the grass. By then I knew I
wasn't going to get to the mailbox, so I turned
around to try to get back to my house, and
when I hit the street again, I went flying again,
hit the street right on my stomach and had to
crawl across the street on my stomach again to get

(04:30):
to the grass.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
I'm guessing, Paul this, do you have a video of this?

Speaker 4 (04:34):
But perhaps if I did, there would be worth millions.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
The double the ever rare double belly flop ice fall,
you know like that, that'd be worth something.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
I was watching Omaha scanner.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
They were sharing some people's videos of what was happening
with the cars and all that stuff. Multiple people just
like biffing it and they're watching this car like slide
down the hill and all of a sudden, guys just
standing there. The next thing you know, he's flatt in
his back because I mean, it's just too icy out there.
But I'm guessing, Paul, if you did you uh, did
you know how icy it was until you got out there?

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Or do you just not know until it was icy?

Speaker 4 (05:14):
But I didn't expect you to be that bad.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
It really was an ice rank out there.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
It really was.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Did you have to drive it all?

Speaker 5 (05:22):
Not?

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Friday night?

Speaker 1 (05:23):
That was good. That was a good call there, Paul.
That was a really good call. Well, i'll tell you why, buddy.
I'm glad that you're okay. Thanks for sharing with us
today and we'll chat again soon. Okay, thank you, Yeah,
thanks for calling. If you want to call in you
got a story that you'd like to share with us
four oh two five five eight eleven ten. Four oh
two five five eight eleven ten, and we'd love to
talk with you about that.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Have some people that.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Are emailing as well, Emory at kfab dot com if
you'd like to share that direction, we can talk about
that too, and we'll have more on that coming up
next on news radio eleven ten KFA.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
B Emery's songer on news radio eleven KFAB.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Had some emails here talking about the weather from Friday,
which I wanted to try to unpack the best that
I could, and I had JC here say, my company's
Christmas party was in Omaha on Friday night.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
E not great.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Not a great timing for this storm if you were
having a big party. We left Lincoln at five thirty
and almost made it to the outlet mall when they
shut down I eighty. We didn't get home after turning
around when they opened it back up until about twelve
forty five a m. Whoa wow. He was just trying
to go from Lincoln to Omaha. And it was supposed
to be a fun night. It was supposed to be

(06:42):
a good time. I couldn't imagine, you know, getting on
the road and being like excited for this big party
with the company. I like company parties. Wish we had
more of them. Yeah, I was dripping in starcasm.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Who me? I was trying to be your hype man? Yeah? Yeah,
oh boy?

Speaker 1 (06:59):
What was that?

Speaker 2 (07:00):
How was I supposed to come across? I don't know. Yes,
I agree, you know. I'm gonna drop all inflection from
now on. Good point, Emery Songer, that's terrible. You're fired?
Can I go now?

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Or do I have to wait until the show's over?
You're not actually fired? No, the robots fired? Oh oh yeah, okay, okay,
that's fair, all right, the yeah, I couldn't imagine then
getting stuck and then basically saying I eighty shut down.
We're gonna have a lot of recks out here. You
can't go back that wouldn't be fun. So what'd you do? Like,
did you sit in the car?

Speaker 2 (07:32):
I think a lot of people ended up doing that
on Friday night, just kind of stuck. You're stuck, Yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Just like try to find a way that you can
pull off and go into like an area where you
know you can at least go to a restaurant or
a bar or something. You know.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
That's what I do.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
Like, it's just like, hey, let's find me a hotel,
bar or something that I can just kill some time.
You know, I don't even need to be drinking. I
just need to be sitting. Just let me sit for
a while and be in a warm place while I
wait for things to resolve themselves outside, grab a meal
or something.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
I gotta do more recon on this. That's it's not great,
not a great thing. Susan says. Do you have safe paw?
I'm guessing that's like pet friendly ice, salt like salt
to the ice. So I don't have that, but I
certainly am gonna have pet friendly ice. There's these ones

(08:20):
that have like little ice like little ice melting balls
that kind of dissolve into the ice and kind of
really help melt them quickly. That's good, you know, like
something like that. So I'm going to try to figure
out the easiest way to do that to get the
salt that is going to prevent it from like melding
to itself over the summer. I don't know, like if

(08:42):
moisture got in there or something. I have no idea,
but it's pretty much unusable unless you need an entire
brick or cinder block of ice.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
Lesson learned.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
I suppose Paul's on our phone line at four oh two,
five five, eight eleven ten, Paul, you have an ice
story for me?

Speaker 4 (08:58):
Yeah, actually a good pop.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
One Friday night, we had tickets to the Holland Performing
Arts Center and we live out west and my wife was,
we're not going, and I said, yes we are, No,
we're not. So we've finally gotten an argument, and our
niece called in on her way home. She didn't wreck
her chin told her car, but it's pretty bad. And
I finally said, okay, we're not going. I just called

(09:21):
the hauland and asked them if they canceled the show.
They did not, but she goes because of that. We
will send you a We cannot give you a refund,
but we will send you a list of shows coming
up that you can exchange your tickets for. I thought
that was tremendous.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Yeah, that's customer service for you, Paul. And I'm sad
that you couldn't go. I'm guessing that was for the symphony, right, there.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Was a symphony, and then upstairs in the Holland Club
it was for a big band Christmas show. Nice. I'm
very I'm sharing this because I was very, very pleased
with their response, and I want to let other people
know that they will look up your name, and you know,
you can't just call up and say, hey, I had tickets,
so you're gonna look up your name confirm that you

(10:06):
will you know, had them, but if you did, they
will exchange them for you.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
That's that's definitely good stuff there, Paul. I appreciate you
sharing that with us. Our friends at the Omaha Performing
Arts always looking out for us.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
Thank you so much, thank you.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yeah, there you go. That's some good stuff. Like to
see that, and you got to you got to see
the symphony and the Christmas celebration. How was it was?

Speaker 2 (10:26):
I sure did Oh, it was amazing. Yeah, it's just
it's always so amazing. It's it's the best way to
really kind of kick off all the fun in the
Christmas season for sure. And and that's awesome that they
did that and not surprised just such amazing people out
there part of the symphony.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Yeah, that's I just love that we have that. J
C responded after I asked, what the heck did you
end up doing after you got kind of like, uh
stuck out there? He said, we were stuck after the exit.
We had nothing to do but wait on the freeway.
What for for seven hours? For seven hours, you were

(11:02):
stuck on the freeway.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
It happens.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
I mean, obviously he would have spent some of that
time driving to and from but oh no, that no,
that's like all of my worst nightmares, all of them,
Like do you just keep your car running? What if
you were already kind of low on gas? What if
it like you just idled in, like your car ran
out of gas, like and nobody could help you. I'm
sure there were a ton of cars in front of

(11:26):
him and behind him. That would have been like the
worst possible case scenario, the worst case scenario. I can't
even tell you how bad of a scenario that is.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
At least it wasn't so cold that it was dangerous.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Right, because if somebody decided to shut their car off
after a little bit of time, I mean you would have.
You would still have gotten cold, but it wasn't like
life threatening cold if you had your coat and all
that stuff. He said, there may or may not be
a pea bottle or two on the side of I eighty. Now, however,
I can neither confirm nor deny this. Yeah, what would
like do you do? You just hop out of your

(11:59):
car and relieve yourself in that situation. I am a
well highdrated man. I have to tell you this would
have been a big problem I would have had to solve.
I guess the only thing you could have done in
that situation, if you're JC or anybody else that we've
talked to about this, is just bite the bowl and
say we just can't go. Because I'm one of those

(12:20):
people too, like we gotta go. We had plans. I'm
not gonna let mother nature ruin my plans. Sometimes you
need to. Friday, it was a day that you probably
needed to. We still had that game over at Baxter Arena,
you and O and Lynden. Would I don't know if
the small crowd had anything to do with it, but
there was still probably a thousand people that were there,
which is pretty crazy. I got there, most of the

(12:41):
people that were supposed to work were there, you know,
like we found a way. How many ice puns did
you make?

Speaker 2 (12:46):
At least three?

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Okay, I definitely did did lean into the ice puns,
So you took.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
The over because before you left on Friday, I said,
how many are you gonna make?

Speaker 1 (12:54):
You said at least two, but yeah, I went. I
think it was at least three. It took you over.
I like it, Yeah, I was. I was getting the
ice puns in there. Smaller, more intimate crowd. Unfortunately, it
didn't work out for the MAVs on Friday night they
lost a lindit with team they seemed to be much
better than. But then they rallied on Friday, much bigger
crowd for the Saturday game and then we were able

(13:16):
to get a win, So they split the weekend. But yeah,
not awesome. Not awesome time. And I'm glad that we
didn't hear of any crazy fatal accidents that were happening,
which is kudos to first responders. Kudos to the people
out there on the roads, people who didn't go on
the roads. Kudos to everybody because as many bad things
that could have happened, didn't sound like, even with all

(13:37):
the carnage that was happening with people running into other
cars and losing control and spinning out and all this stuff,
didn't hear of any super dangerous major injury accidents. So
something to keep in mind there four twenty eight. We'll
come back if you want to call us. Four two, five, five, eight,
eleven ten is the number. We'll talk more on news
radio eleven ten KFAB and recent on news radio eleven

(14:00):
ten KFABY.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
I don't fully know why, but for some reason last
week that topic was such a bore to me. I
just I didn't understand how it related to my life.
To me, I was just like, Okay, they're not dangerous,
I don't. I mean, theoretically it could be a couple
of things, but I think it's just because it's out
in New Jersey. But as as this topic continues to unfold,

(14:24):
right m, it's got real staying power. And so honestly,
today I was sitting here thinking like, why why am
I so bored by that topic? Should I care more
about it? Should it should? Should I be more worried
about this idea. I mean, it'd be one thing if
a drone had a machine gun and it was flying around,
you know, but these seem to be just not that situation.

(14:46):
So okay, So I guess my.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Uh, I guess my. My biggest thing would then be,
are you do you really have like are you have
you changed like how you look at it? Like, I guess,
are you in the process of reevaluating and you still
aren't sure that you've reevaluated it?

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Or we're in the process of reevaluating.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
You know.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
We'll let you know. We don't have any coaching changes
at this time, but we are in the process. I
think I'm in the process of reevaluating the way I
look at drunes. You know, it's it's drones, it's AI.
I'm just having you know what I'm having. I'm having
like all this new fangled technology fatigue, you know, like,
are we really better off with all this stuff? And
I tell you one thing we're not better off with

(15:31):
is AI. You watch some of this AI stuff and
it's coming out of everyone. Dude, I know, and it's creepy.
It's like you're telling me that's not a real person.
It looks like it, sure is. It didn't go creepy.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Coke make their holiday commercial with AI this year, and
they announced that they were doing it, which is like
part of the deal. Right, You're supposed to tell people,
at least even with like a watermark in like a
photo or a video or something, that this was made
with AI. That's like one of the things. But it's
not stopping anybody from doing that.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
I think if you can fly your drone in my space,
like let's say, you know in let's say your space
isn't protected my house, but you're it's not protected, well
it will be. How we just got to make a
new law. How pass it through Congress? They make all
kinds of laws about what like what what's the rule

(16:21):
I'm saying. I'm saying that if you are on my property,
which is what defined as what? Okay, so my lawn
is my property, right technical unless it's the ease mint
my actual lawn, that's my property. And if you're flying
a drone that's hovering above my lawn, how high that's
gonna matter? Yeah, we gotta we okay, Yeah, we got

(16:41):
to establish an invisible box. Yeah, but it's all dependent
on I don't want some guy you know, up there
three hundred feet but he's got a great camera and
he's peeking in my my sun roof. You know those families.
I'm not one of them, but you know those well
to do people who got they got sud roofs in
their bathroom, in their bathroom. Oh you've seen him, I've
seen them. What. Yeah, people out there know. They don't

(17:03):
want to admit it. They won't call in to tell you,
but they got it. Why you don't think that's droned Arry?
Some real creepers out there, Emory. So you better believe
that the next generation of a peeping colm is you.
You pay for a two thousand dollars drone that you
could control and then just hover it above these people
in their in their bathroom. Because a lot of out

(17:24):
there go, come on, wait, what do you mean?

Speaker 5 (17:26):
Come on?

Speaker 2 (17:27):
I'm just trying to be vigilant here. I'm saying, yeah,
if we're gonna live it. I didn't care about drones
until like what five minutes ago. I'm trying to care,
I really am. I'm trying to I'm putting an effort
here to make a little bit more of an effort
to care about it. I don't know, you know, it's
just I think I think drones are kind of dumb,
that's all. Well, they're not dumb.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
I mean, they could certainly be useful if they're handled properly.
And we know again Donald Trump made his most interesting
comments about these things today that we've heard so far,
that these drones are. I mean, they have to be
somewhat related to government activities, because they wouldn't. They haven't
blown them up yet, and if they were something that
they thought were threatening, they would have absolutely tried to

(18:10):
do that. But he's confused, just like the rest of
us are as to why they're not just telling us
what the heck is going on. Former CIA officer basically
said this could be a classified exercise that they just
can't release the information to. There's a podcaster and paranormal
investigator named Michael b. He is behind the YouTube channel

(18:32):
terror Talk Productions. Now again, I don't know how much
to believe from a guy who is a paranormal investigator
who runs a YouTube channel called Terror Talk Productions. But
he says he lives in this New Jersey area. He
was flying he what he called a fully charged drone,

(18:53):
like the full battery life drone, and said, not three
minutes into the flight, I lost control of the drone.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Now again, I don't know how much you can take
from this guy this drone around.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
When his name is only Michael B and he's a
podcaster and a paranormal investigator and his YouTube channels called
terror Talk Productions, I don't know how much we can
actually take from that. There might be him making stuff up.
I'm not saying that he's a liar. I'm just saying
that I reserve the right to ask questions about the
legitimacy of his drone problem.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
It may be that he built his entire career out
of things like this.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
Happening exactly, because if there's a paranormal investigator out there
that's truly like a ghostbuster type, the only reason they
have a job in the first place is because ghosts
have to exist. And even if they don't exist, you
have to rely on your ability to convince people that
ghosts or things of this nature exist. So I don't know,

(19:44):
but he said, yeah, this.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Thing.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
He said he lost control of his drone with three
minutes into his flight as he tried to get close
enough to investigate these things that he thought were drones.
Connie's on our phone line of four h two, five
to five at a Connie, what do you think about this?

Speaker 5 (20:03):
Yeah, I think that as the state of Nebraska, we
have a right to develop some kind of a registry
that if there are drones flying around, we.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
As residents of the state.

Speaker 5 (20:15):
Can look up to see if these drones have been
registered with the states somehow, and if they haven't, then
I think we should get out our grenade launches and
blow them up. I think those states should do it.
I think the National Guard somebody should be doing that.
I don't care whether if you're a company and you're
just flying the drones around because of whatever reason, and

(20:36):
you don't follow the rules of the state to register
with the city or the state or whatever. I think
you get your drum blown up and guess what you
do one or two of those, and guess what's gonna happen.
They're going to start using your registry. I think it's
wrong that we don't know what's going on.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
Above us like that.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
So we're going to sit here and be dumb for
a week, and it could be some nefarious actor or something.
It's like, no, the minute we don't know what it is,
it gets blown up.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
I mean, I don't disagree that we deserve to get,
you know, told what's going on. I just don't know
a safe way to fire something at a thing that
could fly in populated areas, Connie.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
I mean, I think let's figure it.

Speaker 5 (21:19):
Let's figure it out.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Can I pull that drop. The minute we don't know
what it is, we blow it up.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
Yes, yeah, Connie, You're gonna be in the show forever now,
all right, So, I mean it's a good point, thanks, Connie.
I appreciate you calling it. I don't disagree with the sentiment.
I just don't know how. I mean, these things have
been flying around New Jersey, multiples of them for almost
a month now. We've had reported sightings since December eighteenth,

(21:49):
and we still haven't gotten a good enough look at
him to even know what the heck they are. Nobody
really knows outside of maybe the classified people who are
running this thing in the government. And I'm supposed to
believe that we act early, can like take these things
out of the sky and safely neutralize them that way,
I don't I don't disagree with the sentiment. I just
don't know how that would work. Four forty six. We'll

(22:10):
take more calls four h two, five, five, eight, eleven ten.
Coming up on news radio eleven ten. Kfa B got
a couple of emails here for you. Matt Scott says,
would Matt be okay with AI if he had a
relative that was suffering from some type of disease and
a cure wouldn't be found for twenty years, but with
the help of AI maybe in two Will that change
your opinion on it?

Speaker 2 (22:29):
I didn't mean to make a blanket statement about AI.
I was more just talking specifically about AI generated images
and art and VIDEOSA it's the idea that you're looking at,
especially when it's a video and it looks so real,
but you but that's not a real person. I just
think that there's there's an unsettling component to that. To me,
it's just this sort of unnaturalness and uh but no,

(22:52):
I'm I'm all for science and technology and medical breakthroughs
all day long. Absolutely, that's wonderful news. I was more
