Speaker 1 (00:00):
One of the people that you'll be able to see
there from Eating Artistry is Brandy Eckles. She's on our
phone line with us. Brandy, thanks so much for being
on our show today.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Thank you, Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Okay, So tell me about what you do at Eating
Artistry and kind of how this fits in with the lawn,
flower and Patio show.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Wonderful. So we are called the Flower Team at Eaton
Artistry and we specialize in container gardening is one of
our niches. It's perfect for the home show because containers
are so popular right now and we do them at
a variety of locations, and I think sometimes people don't
(00:38):
realize that you could bring that beauty to your front porch,
even if you live in a loft or a condo
or you know, your back porch. You can grow vegetables
in them. So we're going to kind of showcase a
lot of different things you can do with the containers.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yeah, I absolutely love this idea. My wife's very into
this sort of thing these days as well. And it's
interesting how you can kind of be spatially aware while
gardening and also, like you mentioned, just that beauty and
the touch that it can add to you know, whether
it's a patio or a porch or something like that.
So kind of take me through what that process looks like,
(01:15):
because I'm sure you know you try a bunch of
different things and you found many different ones that kind
of work for you.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, So the process is going to be for the
home show, we're doing a competition and so it's going
to be really fun. I'll be going up against Amy
from color Burst Landscaping and we will both be creating
a container at the same time for the audience to
judge to see who's the winner.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
I love that. That's awesome. So how do you I
mean you got to have a game plan. What are
the materials that you have in front of you? Is
there a certain size of container that we're talking about,
and what is the like are you starting from complete scratch?
Like what what does you know? I don't want you
to give away your secrets because know if Amy's listening,
you don't know if you know she's going to have
(02:02):
a chance to scout you out before tomorrow's a big competition.
But uh, like, kind of what are the parameters here
and how quickly are you trying to put these together?
Speaker 2 (02:10):
You know they gave us sense this is a first
time thing for Omaha. They kind of left it up
to us, so there's no rules, which makes it really exciting.
Since the weather is very particularly cold right now, there
wasn't a lot of product available, so these are going
to be awesome. I'm going to bring in like a
(02:31):
lot of tropical house plants which can also be used
in the summertime in planters as well, lots of color.
I think we can take as much time as we need.
I'm pretty quick, Adam, so I hope she's quick too.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
We're speaking with Brandy Eckles. She is from Eating Artistry
and she'll be over there at the Omaha lawn Flower
Patio Show at c CHI Health Center, Omaha. So container
let's I know people can learn and get more of
a visual when they actually go to the show this weekend.
But this is such a great idea. Like I mentioned,
my wife's really into this kind of idea. How do
(03:08):
people get started right, because this is the one thing
that I think stops a lot of people from exploring
some of their creativity when it comes to this is well,
I'm just really not sure what's the first thing that
I should do to kind of introduce myself to what
this is. How do you you know, how would you
suggest somebody who's brand new and never tried anything like
this kind of get into the container planting?
Speaker 2 (03:29):
You know, my best suggestion is just to try. And
the truth is is there's so many different designs out
there and so many different products we can use in containers.
The best way is just to kind of think of
your favorite colors and build different tiers of height and
just realistically, it comes down to just trying and you
(03:51):
learn what looks good and doesn't and you know it
brings you joy even if it fails.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah, it's a fun project. Where do you find the containers? Like,
do you have a specific type of container or a
specific size. I'm sure you can work with a variety
of sizes, but is there like a good, you know,
starter size for somebody who's just kind of messing around
for the first time.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Yeah, yep. I always suggest to get about a sixteen
inch diameter and maybe a thirty inch tall container. It's
always a good one to start with. You want to
make sure that it's tall enough that if you put
something tall in it, that it's not you know, too short,
and then you have a palm that's two and a
half feet, So you just kind of want to make
(04:35):
sure you're distributing your hype correctly. And it's all the container.
Every place sells the containers. I prefer the poly containers
over the big glazed ones only because you have more
flexibility to move them. But anything goes, anything can be
a container.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
That's awesome. You're going to get a lot of different
inspiration when you go to the Omaha lawn Flower and
Patio Show, So artistry can I'll just let you kind
of give a little plug here as to what you
generally do. Obviously, the containers are what you're going to
be leaning on here when people are able to watch,
especially tomorrow afternoon. But is there you know, what are
(05:14):
some of the other things that you know people can
learn about with eat and artistry?
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Wonderful. So we are horticulturists, so we handle everything in
our client's landscape. We call it a full cruise control
that we take care of. We also I'm an arborist
as well, so we also offer tree services and we
do anything that's living and breathing and growing.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Yeah, it's awesome, especially in Naraska, you know, the home
of Arbor Day and how much we love our trees here.
How can people find eat An Artistry or you, Brandy
on social media?
Speaker 2 (05:51):
I love it, so they can come on our Facebook.
We have like six thousand pictures on there. We also
have a website which is eaden Artistry dot com. Or
they could just do a hashtag flower Team on Google
and a lot of our stuff comes up from all
the different platforms.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Absolutely love that That container showdown featuring Brandy Echoles of
Eden Artistry along with Amy Gunther of Color Burst, Landscape
and Design taking place at four o'clock tomorrow at the
Omaha Lawn, Flower and Patio Show. And that's just one
of many awesome things that's going to be going on there,
including different shows. They have Raptor shows with falcons, hawks
(06:27):
and owls and things that are going to be there,
including tonight at seven pm as well as over the
weekend at three pm as well. So so many cool
things that are going on. Brandy really appreciate you stopping
by and explaining this to us. It's kind of a
new thing for my wife and I to kind of
get into more of the gardening thing. I'm a big
bird guys, kind of where my interests, Lie and my
(06:49):
wife loves to put different plants and kind of mess
around with things in the yard, So we're certainly going
to be checking out what you guys have going on,
and we really appreciate the time today.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Thank you so much. You have a wonderful week and
we'll see.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
The absolutely how about that. It's going to be fun
for Brandy and for Amy Gunther of color Burst Landscape
as well as they do that container showdown, which is
designed not just for them to compete, but also for
everybody who's watching to have an understanding of exactly what
is going to be possible and maybe some inspiration for
(07:22):
you as you look to try to kind of get
into the container planting world. It's really up and coming
these days, especially with people who have small spaces have
a chance to still have some of that natural planting beauty.
