Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know what else is a fun family event that
people can go to. The Alma Supernovas back in action
this Thursday Thursday home game, and that's one of the
two home matches that they have coming up. They also
play on Sunday as well, Orlando coming to town on Thursday.
Indie back on Sunday and joining us is a local legend,
(00:20):
somebody that many people would be excited to see play
professional volleyball. Her name is Lindsey Crousey, and Lindsey, thank
you so much for being a part of our show today.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Well, thank you for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Okay, I gotta be honest, Lindsay, the Supernovas are one
of the Yeah, I mean they are just how do
I describe? How do I describe it properly? I mean,
this is the ticket in town there. We're getting eleven, twelve,
thirteen thousand people that are coming to Chi Health Center
Omaha to watch you guys play. How do you best
describe the atmosphere from you know and how you know,
(00:54):
maybe it's a bit different as a pro versus some
of the amazing crowds you got to be a part
of when you were playing for the Huskers.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, I think it's I think it's super special. I
think we really love how much we pride ourselves on
being like a truly family oriented organization and a family
oriented like event throughout our matches. It's so special getting
to be, you know, the first professional volleyball league in
America and just another professional sports league for women's sports,
(01:25):
and so being able to see so many children and
so many families in the in the crowds and seeing
what we're accomplishing is so special.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Lindsey Crowsey joining us. You're a local girl as well,
I mean, growing up in the Omaha area. Did you
ever think this was a possibility as you were kind
of getting into volleyball? Obviously, as you were growing up,
Nebraska had been a really good volleyball program and you
got a chance to be a big star for them.
But did you ever think in your wildest dreams you
(01:53):
could play pro volleyball right here in Omaha?
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Honestly, no, I never even thought that be a possibility
up until, you know, my last few years of college.
The idea of even playing professional volleyball in the United
States was something that was pretty much unheard of and
wasn't really going to happen. And so having that kind
of start up really quickly, I would say once I
(02:17):
was in in like my later years of college and
then getting this opportunity to play not just in America
but stay completely at home, it was something that was
super special for me and like, I could not pass
up this opportunity.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Uh, you got a really good team that seam won
the championship last year, but you were in the midst
of trying to win a different type of championship just
a couple of months ago you were playing for the Huskers,
who you know, made another trip to the final four.
This is a what a career that you and so
many of your classmates were able to have. And oh,
by the way, you're going to be playing pro volleyball
in like a couple of weeks and needed to kind
of like reconfigure your mind here. What was that turnaround like?
(02:52):
And did you know how much did you know about
what you were about to do once you finished up
the fall season with the Huskers?
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Right, So I had been drafted, they had they tv
have had their draft earlier in November. So I had
known that I was going to come and join the
super Novis for a few weeks before our season ended.
But honestly, the transition was was pretty smooth. It was
really easy getting to be able to stay in my
(03:22):
hometown because pretty much all I had to focus on
was the volleyball portion and nothing else. They didn't have
to be about trying to move or you know, learn
a new city or do like learn all these different
places like and I'm super grateful for all of that
because that definitely helped in a big way with my transition.
But overall, as far as volleyball went, I think it
(03:45):
was a very smooth transition. My coaches and my teammates everyone,
they made it really really easy to just kind of
come in the gym and start playing right away. I
will say the hardest part was, honestly, just the lack
of I would say a big break break between the
two seasons. I was joking with a few of my
other teammates who are coming through from college that we've
(04:07):
basically played volleyball every single day since you know, like
August sixth urfith or something like that, and so it's
gotten a little long, it's gotten grueling, but I mean
it's really fun and this is why we do it.
So I'm like, just so fortunate to have such a
smooth transition into the pro professional league.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
You know, yeah, definitely helps.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
And just to do it all kind of in your
hometown and just having to make the adjustment from Lincoln
in the Huskers back here to Omaha's pretty awesome. Lindsay
Crowsey joining us on the phone line. Supernova's in action Thursday,
and you're going to be seeing a couple of familiar faces,
Nora as Cis and Maddie Belinovich. You are from Creighton
and really have helped build that program. Look at what
(04:49):
that program looks like now. Gee whiz. They were ranking
the top ten most of the year, and they were
just a eyelash away from playing you guys in the
final four this year down in Louisville. You guys going
to see them across the net again, this time with
the Orlando Valkyrie, who are coming to town on Thursday.
What's it like kind of seeing all of these great
players that you got to play again store in some
(05:10):
cases play with that are now kind of playing around
the country in these in the Pro Volleyball Federation. And
what is the difference like, at least to this point
in your young professional career of the vibe between these
new faces that you're in the locker room with versus
the plate the faces that you're on the other side
of the net from.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Honestly, I think it's so special that we have this
opportunity because I think with the ability to have professional
volleyball still here at home, I think that provides opportunities
for a lot of women to keep playing who wouldn't
otherwise have kept playing. So I just think that's so
super special to provide so many more opportunities for so
(05:52):
many of these athletes coming out of college that want
to continue playing professionally and have the skill set to
but just don't want to, you know, spend eight nine
months out of the year overseas. So, for one, it's
just so amazing to have this opportunity to continue to
play professionally. And on top of that, obviously Nora, she's
(06:13):
one of my best friends, so anytime I get to
see her is just something I take for granted, and
so I love getting to meet new people. It's really cool.
Every single situation we get put into it's you know,
at the end of the day, it's still volleyball, and
we know and we can figure out how to play
together pretty quickly, so it's always really special whenever we
get opportunity like this.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Yeah, so you're from Papillion, right, is that right? I
am okay?
Speaker 1 (06:39):
And so you and Nora sis grow up together in
that area. You go to Nebraska, she goes to Creighton.
You guys have this incredible career, both of you in
two different places, and it's been really awesome as volleyball
fans to watch, and now here you guys are as
professionals and you're going to face each other here in
Omaha for the first time for her as a professional.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
What is that like?
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Did you guys talk about this, you know, as you
were about to go to college, did you talk about this,
like about your careers and how important you guys both
were to these really great teams. Is you were at
the top of the volleyball world. What's that relationship like
with somebody whom you're so close with but you're never
actually teammates with, right, So.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Me and nor we were teas, we were teamates when
we played club together, but we obviously haven't done that
since we were eighteen, and I think that we loved
playing together more than anything, and so we don't really
talk about volleyball as much now that we've gotten older,
I think because we just both missed playing with one
another so much, and it's honestly, we just we're in
(07:49):
the position where we're just so grateful for the opportunity
to even keep playing, because I just think we're both
massive home bodies, and that's why, you know, you can
see that we both ended up. She stayed home to
to create in I was not very far away with
going to Nebraska, and so I just think it's so
special that we're able to have just very similar I
(08:13):
guess aspirations and things that motivate us from such a
young age, and I honestly think it's it's just something
that's really really beautiful that we were able to find
each other so young and gravitate towards one another to
become such close friends, because sometimes when you are doing
things such as athletics at the elite level, it's really
(08:36):
hard to I guess, find people that are like minded
like you, and so having her so close and getting
to experience a lot of the same things with someone
like Nora something that I hold really dear to my heart.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
This is such a it's so cool to see Lindsey Crowsey,
Nebraska volleyball legend, and now Supernova joining us on the
phone line. So let's go and reconfigure it and straighten up.
Nora is going to be on the other side of
the net against you on Thursday, or Orlando is in town.
Indy comes to town to play at c HI Hell
Center on Sunday. These are a couple of big games.
(09:12):
Supernova's playing really well coming out of the All Star break.
If people haven't been to a Supernova's game, what do
they need to know before they buy tickets and they
have a chance to see you guys on Thursday and Sunday.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Oh goodness. I would say it's just it's a great time.
You know, there's a lot of energy. We're a team
that plays with a lot of passion. We really we
really care about every single one of our fans, and
it's it really is just a great way to spend
your time. It's so fun volleyball. You've ever been to
a volleyball match. It's very fast paced. It's it's like
(09:48):
there's not really a lot of time off. I know,
obviously we have a break between points, but it's a
very fast paced match. So I think it's it's something
that's really cool to enjoy, even if you've never really
experienced vball before, and this is maybe even your first
time ever seeing a match.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
I've been to the Supernovas a couple of times. There's
zero things like it in the amount of people and
the amount of excitement that exists there in that building
when the Supernovas are playing.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
It's unbeatable.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
And you know what, You're going to be seeing a
lot of people who have Nebraska ties, whether they're like
Lindsay Krowsey and actually are from the Omaha area, or
people like Lindsay also who went to Nebraska or Creighton.
There's all sorts of them that you're going to be
seeing in this match as well Thursday and on Sunday.
Lindsay always great to chat with a supernova. Thank you
so much for being a part of our show today
(10:35):
and I'm sure we'll chat with you again soon.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Yes, of course, thank you so much for having me on.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Yeah, Lindsay Crowsey, how about that
