Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of the Pulse.
I'm so excited you guys to have this amazing young
woman on the show with me today. Honey, y'all are
in for a treat today because I got the one
and only Miss Jereda Jackson in the studio with me. Hey,
(00:25):
misster Ita, I'm doing really good. You know, I'm so
glad to have you here. You wrote a letter in
our contest the Chevrolet Dealer's Sister Strutt and I'm curious,
mister Rita, what made you enter that contest?
Speaker 2 (00:46):
You know what, I don't really know why ended the contract.
I said, I'm just gonna go ahead and put my
name in here, dear my little story and make it brief.
I don't know. I'm just sparing a moment things. Yeah,
you know.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah, And I'm gonna tell you something. When I read
what you wrote, it touched my heart.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
I'm so can remember.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
I'm so glad they let me read it, you know,
because it's always a pleasure to have people like you
on the show to talk about your journey because you're
a breast cancer survivor.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
I am a breast cancer survivor. I'd be five years
on the twelfth. Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Wow, a well congratulation. Yeah, I see you keep up
with the anniversaries. Yes, okay, so Monday will be your
five year anniversary anniversary. Do you think it's something when
you go through what you've gone through with your breast
cancer diagnoses, that that you just don't forget, you remember.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
You can't help but remember unless you remember, Yeah, you
know the pain that you go through and all the
different things that you go through.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, of couse you develop other problems as well, be
hand breast counselor you have to take these treatments and things.
I had to take twenty rounds of radiation wow, five days.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
A week, wow for four weeks. Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
And I've heard the stories. A lot of people have
sat in that chair and shared their story, like our
own big Sue that works here at our company. Yeah,
and she shared her story similar to you. Are you
retired now, miss Terita?
Speaker 2 (02:29):
I am retired? Okay, Yes, I retired in sixteen. Okay, okay,
it's ma'am.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
And I see you have your lovely daughter Melanie here today. Melanie.
I'm so glad both of you were able to come
by and be a part of the show. Today. Thank
you so much. I really appreciate you. I want to
read the letter Missterita is a breast cancer survivor and
I'm hoping that her story can help somebody out there,
(02:57):
and that's one of the reasons I want you to
come and be a part of the show. And in
case I didn't say it before, it is the pulse
and we keep our fingertips on the pulse of our community.
I'm stormy, mister. Rita Jackson is here breast cancer survivor
and her daughter Melanie. Do you mind if I read
your letter to everybody? I can do it. You're sure, yes? Okay,
(03:21):
she says. My name is Jerita Jackson. I'm a four
and a half year breast cancer survivor. I am also
dealing with heart problems and eye problems as well. It
gets a little tough on me sometimes trying to buy
medication and pay for my heart test that the insurance
(03:42):
doesn't pay for. I'm just getting a little Social Security
to try my best to pay my mortgage and keep
up things around the home. My daughter is a twenty
year cancer survivor.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Wow, it's not nineteen almost nineteen.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Okay, okay, close to twenty close to twenty. And then
you say, plus, I have to take her back and
forth to the doctor. She is forty two years of
age and has autism. Yes, yeah, and you also say
I need to get some car repairs done, like air
(04:24):
conditioners fixed, oil change, et cetera. Thank you for listening
to my story. God bless Do you remember writing that
I do.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
I do that. I'll come back to me now.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Yes, And when I read it, it touched me so much,
you know, because it's not always that you hear of
a mother daughter that's gone through similar things, you know
what I'm saying. Yes, and I know it happens, Yeah,
it happens. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Not only that, but you know when I was when
I was married to my her father, I went through
a lot of domestic abuse as well. Oh wow, on
top of it, while I'm trying to take her back
and forth to the doctor and stuff like that. So
you know, it's been a journey for me. How did
you get through that? A better grace of God? If
(05:15):
it was God God's grace and mercy, I couldn't have
got through it. It was rough, yeah, pretty rough? Yeah, yeah, you.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Know, and I know there are a lot of women
out there that's dealing with both domestic issues, domestic violence issues, yes,
and then of course breast cancer. How what would you
say to somebody who's going through uh, domestic violence right now,
you know, and they keep going back and they don't
know how to you know what I'm saying, how to
(05:45):
let go? Or what would you say to that person?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Well, let me tell you. Years I wish I had
in the state as long as I did. Yeah, but
I couldn't just go out there just like they just
go out there. I would have been in the streets.
And I want my daughter to be in street so oh,
you know, depending on my my ex income and everything
like this, I didn't want to just get out. But then,
(06:08):
you know, I just kept praying and praying until one
day I finally I got up and left.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Did you got the courage to leave?
Speaker 2 (06:15):
I got the courage to leave. God, I prayed about it,
talk the Good Lord about it. It wasn't an overnight thing.
It took a few years, but I did leave.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
Wow. Yes, So did you just leave free and clear
and you had no issues after that? Or was there?
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Well, I don't have any issue. It's just that we
was moving every time. We know, we're looking up. We
was moving a whole lot, Yeah, to move a whole lot.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Places. We moved about five times until we got a
finally got our home today. About the grace of God,
thank god. It took a little while. Yes, you know,
you keep on praying and talking to God and trust him, Yeah,
everything would be all right.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Yeah. So you go through that. You got your daughter,
she's she's grown now. Yeah, so I know she saw
all of this going on. How was that for you?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Oh well, I don't want her to see y'all what
you know we was going through. But she understood and
we made it through.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Y'all made it.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
We made it. You made it. We made it.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
We're still here and we're still going through somethings, you know,
for medical issues and stuff like that. But still going
some things.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Right Yeah yeah, yeah. So tell me about when you
found out you had breast cancer. Tell me about that.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Well, you know, it was a shocking to me. But
you know what I said, Lord, you just help me
get through this here. And like I said, if you
keep on trust in talking to God every day, I said,
why not me? I'm not so good. I couldn't have
a rest counsel. Wow, but I said, god, you missed
so good to me, So, madam, which have a way
(07:56):
to go. I was thankful. You know.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
I talked to Danita Brown, Miss Nita Brown. Now she
talked to me last year and I had her on
the show just like like I got you on the
show and she said the same thing, why not me, Yes, ma'am,
the same thing on this show.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Really.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
She's a member of my church, is she she's one
of the mothers there?
Speaker 1 (08:28):
What so you know, miss Danita Brown?
Speaker 2 (08:32):
So you everybody Brown?
Speaker 1 (08:36):
So were you guys going through your struggles around the
same time.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
No, not the same team. I don't get I don't
think so, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Was she a help to you when you were going.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Through Yes, yes, yes, ma'am. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
How important is it to have like somebody to talk
to and and like a you know, people that you
can share your journey with. How important is it to
have that when you're going through that that situation?
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Well, you know what, it's good to have that. But
you know, I don't have very many friends. Yeah, So,
like I said, I just keep on trusting in the Lord.
And you know, I listen to my pastor all the time,
Pastor war he helps me out a whole lot. Well
he knows or not, he is helping a lot of
people every Sunday when he get up there, speak their word. Yeah,
Pastor Or he's on it. Yeah, I'm telling you it
(09:32):
helps me a whole lot. Yeah. We re eat the
devotional every day and it helps a lot.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Get on that prayer line.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Okay. So y'all got a prayer line over that line too.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Okay, we have a lot of things going on.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Well listen, mister da you got to give me the
prayer line. Let me get on that too. I'd like
to be on there as well. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (09:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah, And I imagine it's a lot of people at
your church. So that made the difference. You kept your
hand basically in God's hand, Yes, and and that helped
you through.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
God, help me through. Just trust God. You have to
trust him. Time and is everything?
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Yeah you know. Yeah. So with your treatment, how long
did it take you to go through your treatment before
they said you're almost there, it's almost over. How long
did that take?
Speaker 6 (10:22):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (10:22):
It took four weeks, four weeks, four weeks, just four
weeks of radiation. Okay, okay, yeah, I didn't have to
have chemo. Wow, Raise the Lord.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
So they caught it early.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
They called it early.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Look at God, Look at God. Four weeks, look at God.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
You know my daughter. Now, I'm gonna tell you something.
My daughter went through chemo and after she had us,
when she had a resurgery.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Uh huh.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
The doctor came in and told me. She said, miss Jackson,
don't to tell you this. You know, we gotta go
right back again. I said, what, I just my just,
I just I didn't know what to say.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
So she said we got to go right back in
her because we didn't get all the depth nose. I said,
you didn't get all the nose and she said, no,
we didn't.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
I said, okay, come a little closer to that.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
I said, okay, go ahead, you do what you need
to do. Yeah, and I said, please get all the
them nose this time. Yeah, And I thank you, and
I just trust God. I was just praying, you know,
keep on praying. So I tell people, just keep on praying,
persistent praying prayer. It's always good. You got to be
persistent with the prayer, yeah, all the time.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
So you kind of knew what you would go through
based off what she'd gone through, because it sounds like
she went through it way before you did.
Speaker 7 (11:43):
She did.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
She was twenty four years old.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Twenty four years old.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Sol when she was a diagnosed with breast cancer.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
How did you know you did you do something? Did
she do?
Speaker 2 (11:55):
How the doctor found doing the breast is in detected? Wow? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (12:00):
So was there a lump or something like that or
what was it?
Speaker 2 (12:03):
It was a little not there and you know that
she had not detected so small you know, and can't
tell you or she had a mistick to me, Wow, chy,
she went through the chemo, the shots and all she
went through all of it.
Speaker 7 (12:19):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Yeah, it's been a journey.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
For it sounds like it's been a journey for both
of you exactly.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
But by the grace of God keeping me strong, helping
me to hold on because it was rough. Yeah, rough going,
you know, because I hate to see my baby going
through all it.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
I'm gonna tell you something. Neither one of you look
like what you've been through.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Wow, thank you.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
I'm serious. Yeah, you don't look like what you've been through.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
It's about the grace of God. To God be the glory,
the glory.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
So you came out. Do you feel like you you
came out of that better than what how you went in?
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Exactly?
Speaker 1 (13:03):
I do.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
I feel pretty good now, I do, really, I do.
I feel pretty good. I said, God, I'm just keep
on trusting you. Yeah, because you're taking me through this journey.
You ain't promiming this buddle leave me now.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Yeah, he has not, he has not. God is good
yeah all the time. Yeah, yes see.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
So what would you say to somebody that's listening to
us right now that might be struggling with with breast
cancer and they maybe just got the diagnoses and they're struggling.
What would you say to that person?
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Well, I will tell you to just keep trusting in
the Lord. Timing is everything, But just keep on praying,
persistent prayer always help, and you keep talking to him.
Going your secret, clous I don't care where it is,
and talk to the Good Lord because he is so
good and he listening to you. He just wants you
to come to him and be sincere. Yeah, and talk
to him. That's the best friend you can ever have,
(13:56):
number one.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Mmm.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
I promise you, yes, ma'am. That's how I got yeah,
got a grace of God. Yes Lord mm mm hmmmm.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Well it is the pulse. I'm stormy and you know
how we do it. We keep our fingertips on the
pulse of our community. Mister Eda Jackson has joined me
for the show today. I do have some friends that
are wanted to come and just say hello to you,
and you know, speak to you. They read your letter
(14:28):
to and they just want to come by. Thought they'd
stop by to say hello. Now the well, it looks
like you see a friend. You see a friend. You
see miss Danita Brown. You know miss Danita. She spoke
your name before you walked in here. We were talking
(14:49):
about you. They don't have to be good you you
can talk. You can tell me something if you want to. Yes,
you you want to come up to the microphones. You
want to were you saying something? Okay? Okay, Well I
(15:11):

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Okay, and and and.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
They have something that they wanted to say to you.
And they read your story.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
They were touched like I am. So they want to
share something with you. This is Jeff Jackson.
Speaker 6 (15:36):
Introduce myself Jeff Jackson.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
I'm the president of the Mid South Chevy.
Speaker 2 (15:41):

for okay, all right and district.
Speaker 6 (15:50):

Speaker 8 (16:05):
Everybody.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
And I can't remember anything, but I know faces when
I saw your face when I walked in, in your
daughter's face. But I just want to let you know
that I am so honored and so just blessed to
be here with you today. And they want me, they
called they Oh this is such I'm trying to stay cool.
I'm trying to stay cool because you know, God is
in the room trying you know, don't try it. Don't
(16:30):
try it, because when God blesses you, yes, can't nobody
take it back.
Speaker 8 (16:34):
So on behalf of the Mid South Chevy Dealers. They
want to present you what a mighty God we served.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Lord Jesus, Yes, yes, well the Lord.
Speaker 8 (16:54):
Wow, you know idea with you. I saw the name,
but y'all know I don't remember names.
Speaker 7 (16:58):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
We just want to just to encourage you, just to
encourage you and your daughter.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Thank y'all so much, and I've been paying praying for
the fantasy pastor. Always tell him, yes, pray for whatever
you need. Yes, God to do it for you.
Speaker 8 (17:13):
He'll do it every time, won't you show up every time?
Every time? I wait to find out.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
His work is not in vain. We're listening to him
and we're practicing what he tells us to do. So
you just keep on, keep keep keep holding on because
God hears you. God loves you, he loves your daughter,
and He's gonna come through every time. But see, I
know what you were doing. You kept saying, God, when
you coming, when you're coming, And see he don't come
in on your time. He gonna come in on his
(17:51):
time and time. And just on behalf of these people.
I want to say thank you from a council survivors
and I just love you so so.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
God, God bless thank you. Done with Lord Jesus, you
need some water? Lord gonna be okay, Yeah, I'm gonna be.
Speaker 5 (18:21):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Lord, you know what we want to tell you to
mister Rita. Happy mother's day.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
What a mother's day? Yeah, yes, my goodness.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
So, mister Rita, I had you come up for the interview,
but this was your surprise. Happy Mother's Day to you
and congratulations. So so Jeff Jackson, Larry, Tina, how y'all feeling,
because you know y'all been blessing people lately. Come up
(19:05):
to that microphone. Tell me how y'all feel, and how
does this make you feel?
Speaker 6 (19:09):
You have to be blessed to bless others. Yeah, that's
the first thing. So, like you said to me earlier,
Star May, I'm a blessed man. So I love to
give back and I'm blessed to be able to give back.
So yeah, it makes me feel really good.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Yeah, Larry, come on, tell us how you're feeling about today.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
Well, this is an honor to be able to share
with you and your struggle and be able to help
you along the way. And for Chavrolin General Motors, we
just love to be a part of this. As many
parts of my job, this is probably one of the
most rewarding things for me to do, is be a
part of the community and the people that support us. Yeah,
(19:50):
so we really appreciate just being to share this with you.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Tina, you want to come up and say something, I.
Speaker 7 (19:57):
Want to say, congratulations. You are rightfully deserving of this
and God is in the house. Take care of you
every day he does, and this is a wonderful occasion
for you. Sounds so happy for you, and you're going
to have a blessed Sunday.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
So for those of you that are just listening to
the audio, we're on the pulse. I'm storming with you.
Mister Rita Jackson came up and she did not know
she wrote a letter the Chevy dealers. They on our
websites after sister strud we posted a contest and basically
we wanted people to share their stories. And I think
(20:49):
we might have told people that they might get something
or something was gonna happen, but you know, we didn't
tell you know, the whole story. So the whole story
is to everybody that's listening in to Missterita and Melanie
her daughter, the whole story is you wrote a letter.
You wrote in for the contest, wrote a letter. It
(21:09):
touched everybody in this room. Wow, so much so that
we called you a couple of days ago and I said,
I want you to come up and do an interview
so that they could present you with this check. Wow.
So how you feeling come up to that microphone. Tell
me how you feeling now, because you seem blown away.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
I am, you know, I just want to thank God
for everything. To God be the glory. Number one. I
had been praying about a financial blessing. Didn't know this
was going to happen. I'm very surprised. I'm so surprised.
And then to see my church member here, mother Danita Brown.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
And we had just got through talking about her.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Yes, yeah, God is so good.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
But I knew she was here. You did, you did,
But I thought it was interesting how you brought her
up and you talked about church and all of that. Yeah,
well I may have brought her up because you said
something that miss Anita said when I interviewed her last year.
She said, once she got the diagnosis, she said she
(22:12):
was wondering why. Then she said why not me? And
I said, that's what miss Nita Brown said in the
interview that I did with her. Yes, so, Mid South
Chevy Dealers, they're presenting mister Rita Jackson today with a
check for five thousand dollars. Chloris surprise, surprise, Lord, and
(22:40):
Happy Mother's Day to you.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Thank all of you so much, all of you. Yeah, I.
Speaker 8 (22:50):
Had no idea, Yes, no, no, I had no idea.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Oh you did no real, So.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
So come up to the microphone. Tell us a little
bit about that Miss Brown. You said you had no
idea about what no idea.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
When I received the email asking me to come and present,
just so honored because you know, last year I was
in the sea and I was just so honored to
pay back as they said, to get back, and I
kept We were had this joke about pronouncing your name, Well,
your name is Jerada, Yes, but I don't know people
by their names.
Speaker 8 (23:22):
I know them by hey honey.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
At church, hey honey.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
I'm serious, everybody hey honey, because I can't. I don't
remember names.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
But then when they she came out and said, she
said your name, and I'm going I looked at them,
I'm going to like, oh my god. And then when
I found out she's from Brown bathroom, when I walked
in and saw our face and your daughter, yes I
know them. But God is so awesome, just so awesome.
Just to keep blessing, just keep blessing us. I just
feel so honest. Did they just to be here? This
(23:51):
is better than winning the car last night, because I
love to serve. I love to give back because, like
she said, when I was diagnosed I said, God, if
you get me up off this floor this day, I
will serve even more and even better. And it wasn't
about going to church. You know a lot of people
get in church and they think that's service. Service is
what you do in the community. Oh, I pay my
(24:13):
money and I pay my tax. What are you doing
in the community. What are you doing for others? And
that's my goal in life is to be there for others.
And they just got through fussing at me, saying you
going too much, you're doing too much. I so well,
when cancer catch me this time, he's gonna have to
catch me because I'm gonna be by my father's business.
Come on here, and I just love y'all and thank
y'all so much. This is an honor for me. I
(24:34):
don't know what it's doing for her, but I feel
a praise.
Speaker 8 (24:37):
So I'm gonna be good today. I'm gonna be good
to you.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Don't have to be good.
Speaker 9 (24:43):
Come on, so good.
Speaker 8 (25:00):
Are you becoming what you've been through? You're still taking
care of your baby what they.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
Don't see, Yeah, taking care of Yeah. Happy Mother's day, Yeah,
Happy mother's Day. Don't you start crying. We have everybody
