A matter of fact, to the iHeart family. Welcome back
my sister friend, missus Porsche Stephen.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
Always a pleasure to see you, my sister. Life is good.
I have no complaints, I know absolutely none.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
You look fabulous, so do you.
Speaker 13 (05:19):
I haven't seen you, Porsche, I know, right, because you're
always out of the country, like you you know what,
you know, things change, Hey, it's all about life.
Speaker 6 (05:30):
I turned sixty what in August, So I'm in the
club now, and I was like, there you go, right,
and did a little traveling over the summer, and now
I have a new position with a new organization. So
I was like, hey, let's let the community know what's
happening in the Alsie Ball neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
I know, you know what.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
And and we've talked about al sae Ball CDC and
the Porsche is now the connect director. But we've had
them on with United Housing their partners. Correct, United House correct?
Speaker 2 (06:00):
I love it.
Speaker 9 (06:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
So for people who may not know Portia, what is
Elsie Ball CDC?
Speaker 6 (06:07):
Elseiae Ball CDC focuses on affordable housing. Tell you what,
I'm gonna make this brief. It's like a full circle
for me to be working with them. My grandmother. Now, see,
we can really go back.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
Now, I see because I see see ladies, let's see
she talks. I knew her grandmother. Yeah, I knew her grandmother.
Matter of fact, her aunt Tie and me. We were
in elementary school.
Speaker 6 (06:36):
To get correct that correct, that's correct, that's correct.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
So when you guys were on Fountain.
Speaker 6 (06:42):
Yeah, it's so hard, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
And they moved on. My grandmother moved to the Elsa.
Do you remember fountains? She really do. As a matter
of fact, I drove past there a few weeks ago
and looked.
Speaker 6 (06:56):
At that house and it's right, it's boarded up, it's
bored it up, and I said, I need to do
some investigating and see what's going on with that house.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Yeah, oh my goodness.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
Because because your grandmother, they lived on the corner and
we lived up We lived right at there that at
the corner portion we were at at right there at
oh lord, it wasn't well. We were behind Neptune. And
because James Alexander lived around.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
The corner exactly see history, baby, history, we got.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Stories for you. That's right. Stafford, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
You know, I'm senior citizen now I actually remember it.
But Stafford and Fountain Court, and we lived right there
at Stafford and Fountain Court. James Alexander lived right round
there on Stafford. There you go, there, you Gosville, there
you go.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
History, that's his.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
We have some history, got some real history, real history,
real history. So my grandmother the family moved from South
Memphis to the other side and where they we went
from Fountain Court to Lauderdale down from Royal Studios.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Yeah, okay, Louderdale South Parkway. Yes, I know, exactly right.
Speaker 6 (08:09):
And then they moved to Chazita Gardens, which is now
he'll view apartments in the Alsie Ball area. So like
if you go down Alsie there's a set of apartments
back in the seventies.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
The name of them, we're called Chazita Gardens. Wow.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
Yeah, So they've got about what two hundred and fifty
units over the are but that whole neighborhood, you know,
it was a middle class, middle class Black neighborhood is
a legacy neighborhood and they've been keeping their property value
up over there, and you know, we're just trying to
make it more thriving.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
We're thriving.
Speaker 6 (08:41):
So I'm a part of this team now and I'm
excited to be working with them. And the focus is
affordable housing. And you know, Diane is connector and she
has these events that she puts together and hey, man,
the sisters be coming out strong twice a month over
the Elsie Bar a office, you know, for coffee and
(09:02):
crafts and their events happening over there. We've got a
Christmas party coming up and a lot of fun stuff
that we can keep you guys plugged in on.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
So the So the al Sea Ball CDC, they help
people get affordable housing.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
Absolutely, we've been building homes and Nicole is our trainer,
a director of training, so she helps you go through
the process of purchasing a home, get yourself together, you
get your finances together right, you know, teaching and training
on how to maintain that home, you know. Yeah, so
it's all about affordable homes.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Oh, I love it. I love it.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
And and as you said that that neighborhood was middle class,
rich history.
Speaker 6 (09:41):
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt rich, right, right, And the
homes still look well so you have like, yes they do. Yeah,
you drive through there, it's still solid.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Yeah, it's still solid. It's still solid.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:53):
So I'm impressed, you know, and you're right because I
don't go there through that too often, but and I do,
I've never seen really any homes boarded up, right that
they are when you go deep in the heart of
South Memphis where we lived when we grew up, and
you know, it always brings me sadness to see that, right,
(10:16):
but in that area it still looks good.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Right.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
And one of the missions is to if there is
a blighted piece of property, the CDC tries to jump
on that and purchase that property or get it from
the land blank so that we can do something with that,
if it's to.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Rehabit or build new.
Speaker 6 (10:34):
Okay, yeah, so we've got is it five new homes
we're building this year, We've got two that we've already built.
So it's beautiful everything is moving in the right direction.
But our purpose for coming today is to talk about
how to keep the home house.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
You know that's a real conversation for us to be having. Yes,
it is.
Speaker 6 (10:52):
It is you know, your second third generation. And you
know we don't go through the process of getting that
documentary together. So Miss Diane actually went through the process
of learning how to save the Homehouse. So Diane, would
you share with the audience what that process was like
for you.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
And before you do that, let me say welcome Miss Diane.
What Miss Diane, I appreciate We were we were talking
all off like and Diane is a loyal listener.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Of w d S. And we were remembering brother Wade.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
Yes, I used to get to him every morning, all say,
get up, get up, get up.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
You can't make ends me laying on one.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
And my mom would get us up so we could
drive to Cold Water, Mississippi to school. She was a
school teacher there. Whout out to cold Water. Wow, Yes,
we drove every day.
Speaker 14 (11:48):
No you do.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
We got up to brother Wade. Oh yeah, Brother Wade
would get your get up, get up, get out there bed.
And you're right you did that. Brother Wade wasn't Blake
he was amazing. Yeah, he was amazing. It was this
station wd I A has been amazing to our community.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
And and and speaking.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
I'm gonna let you tell your story, but speak. I
think about speaking of brother Wade, and we always talking.
We even have have him, We still have that his
voice Porsche of him saying that when he found the
man's lost teeth. By the way, he said, listen here, listen,
here you feeling listen here y'all. Man that lost his teeth, poor,
(12:28):
he said, man that lost his teeth. You know, teeth
costs about two hundred dollars. He was walking to the
store and he took his teeth out of his mouth.
So because it was ice and snow and he here
a lot, he fell, he lost his teeth. Do y'all
know they found it man's teeth because Brother Wade said,
(12:49):
we gotta find that.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
We have Wow, they found his teeth. That is amazing.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
But that was But that's what this station did. And
the personalities back then. Yes, they were about community. They
were they were about community. Every morning at four a m.
Was when that radio station would pop on. Yes, and
brother Wade would be the one telling you to get up,
get her my mom, get up, get up, bro wade
(13:17):
on and we would get ready in that now that
selest it. Yes, and your mom would drive the cold
whole water every Memphis, get out of town. See see
when when you say that, young folks though, they don't
have that determination, They don't have that. Your mother had said,
(13:38):
I got to have a job, so if I couldn't
work in Memphis, I can work down in Mississippi.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
And she drove.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
She we were raised up there, that's my home, okay,
And she was teaching there and she moved we moved
to Memphis, and because all the jobs had gone away
at that time down there, and we moved here. And
but she never stopped teach. She retired from Tate County
High School. Wow in Coldwater, Mississippi. Yeah, thank you, bab
(14:08):
And you a household name yourself. Well, yes she is.
And I'm just thrilled to be able to be here
with you today. I'm delighted to have and I bring
you greetings from the Alsaball Development Corporation at sixteen seventy
to East Alsie Road. All right, she can make a
(14:30):
clercial to go. I alwould just like to say, it's
a shout out to them. Yeah, shout out to Alsa
ball in that community and how blessed they are and
how giving and loving that they are. Because every other
Wednesday we have coffee and crafts in which we gather
together at that business and we create things. We make things,
(14:54):
We use everybody's talent because at this time in life,
we've done a lot of Yes we have, and so
some things we are proud of that we did. And
we have a special talent that God gave us. So
with that, let's teach it to somebody else. Yes, so
we get come in and we enjoy each other.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Oh you know how to do that? Okay, let's have
a class on that.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
So they just they just love being and being able
to do something with each other. And then we got
to know each other because you know, growing up, Mama
wouldn't let you leave a street over or nothing, you know, right,
And you know, back then, Diane, they asked you if
you had friends. Who are your folks?
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Yeah? Who your folks? Come on, let me meet them. Yeah,
everybody was your parents.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
So now there are people that I've met that are
just a few streets over that I didn't even know
growing up. But now at this age and our beautiful
senior age.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
That's right.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
You know, we get a chance to share the things
that we've learned in life. Yeah, so tell us and
our listeners.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
I met Seth Harkins, who's the executive director of Alsie Ball.
He was on my street one day back in twenty nineteen,
and I had been struggling with I thought I did
everything right by getting a will done when my mom
passed away. I'm the only child left and we got
(16:21):
the will done with an attorney and had it notarized
and all that. And then when I got ready to
get the house put in my name, they said, no,
you got to go through Cobreak probate. And I said
what But I thought I had done everything. So when
I met Seth, he came by my house and he said,
what can I help you with? And that was what
I needed help with.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
I said, explain to me why I've got to go
through probate. And then.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
Probate was costing like twenty five hundred dollars and up
depending on what attorney that I went to. So he said,
let me see if I can help. So he connected
me with some attorneys and I set down. I talked
with the attorneys. She investigated everything because see, when you
(17:11):
have siblings, yes, and siblings.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Are no longer living, and they had children, heirs or
they had children.
Speaker 5 (17:20):
I'm glad you said it, because my attorneys say that
every month. They try to tell our listeners about that.
And see you're saying, yes, it happens. And I had
one sibling, my son. My brother had one son rather
that was living in another state.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Okay, I didn't know.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
I had to go get permission from him because my
brother was deceased. But see, it's a lot of things
you don't know. You don't know, and you find out
when you get ready to do it legally in the
right way to put that house in your name. So
she set out and had to talk with me, and
we got all the paperwork together. And normally she would
(18:00):
have charged about thirty five hundred dollars for what she
did for me, but it didn't cost me a thing.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
I was so blessed to have met Seth who introduced
me to this attorney I And so that was one
of the things that we wanted to do because you
have blight in the community, and that's why we have
a lot of blight, right it's because houses are left
one sibling can't put it in their name, and they're
(18:28):
not gonna pay for the other sibling to live in
in and it's just a confusion, a ball of confusion.
It is, so everybody scatters and just leave the house
and it sits there for year after year after year
because nobody's gonna pay that kind of money to get
it done, and it just be on them and everybody
else don't participate, so it just becomes a ball of confusion.
(18:51):
So we are having an event on Saturday before you
tell us that yes, so you were able to get
that house.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
It is now in all the other your siblings children,
they agreed.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
That you read, they signed papers okay, And I had
to go before the judge and get and all that
become legal okay, and and then go down to the
registrar's office and have everything placed over into my name.
Then it's when it became mine, okay. Not because of
the will that my mom did and we thought that
(19:26):
was it.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
That was it?
Speaker 5 (19:27):
Yes, And and that's not especially because air property, Like
you said, if if the siblings died that then their
children aren't you.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Got And it goes on and on.
Speaker 5 (19:40):
It does go on and on, and in order for
it to legally be right, you can't. You can't eliminate anybody, right.
You have to have signed paperwork for each person that's
involved in that particular resident. So and so you know
that most people don't want to go through that, so
they just walk off and leave it.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (20:00):
And I'm so glad that you are a living testimony, Dianem,
because when I have Attorney Ursula on an Attorney Monika,
they talk about and Attorney Monika she.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Spells it out. I mean, I don't care.
Speaker 5 (20:15):
Every time she comes on, somebody has that same question
because they haven't heard her, but they you mean to
tell me I've been paying the taxes and I and
she says, it's air proper. I'm will pass down, yes,
And I'm so glad you're here that you shared that
with our listeners that know, just because you do have
a will, it's gonna take more than that.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
It takes more.
Speaker 5 (20:38):
And I thought I had done everything. I got an
attorney to do the will. I didn't just go get
a piece of paper and they fill it out. I
had an attorney to do that will for me, and
then had a notary to come to my mom's house
exactly and sign off and everything I wanted it, everything legal,
and she wanted everything legal. And we thought we had
done everything. And she thought because because we were told this,
(21:02):
if you just leave the my brother's children something in
the whell, then that suffices.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Right.
Speaker 5 (21:10):
But it doesn't. Wow, because she did that. She listed
them in the will, okay, but it didn't make no difference.
I couldn't get the house in my name until I
got them to sign that.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Piece of paper. Wow. And who would have thought that? Yeah?
Who would have thought that?
Speaker 5 (21:24):
But you find that out when you get the probate. Yeah,
and you find that out when you talk to somebody
when you were really trying to put the house in
your name. See, we were just doing a will thinking, yes,
that's all, that's all she needed and it's mine. I'm
leaving my house to Diane's. That ought to be it, right,
(21:46):
because that's not how it goes.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Well.
Speaker 5 (21:48):
I'm so glad that you are living in testimony to
tell our listeners what yes is going on and to
have you know, an organization do this and it cost
you nothing. Yes, God is so good, Yes, ma'am, that's yes, Yes, Yes,
I love it you know, this is what When I
(22:09):
see people come to these events and and get things
straightened out, it just makes me feel so good because
I know what I went through. So now in my mind,
I'm saving another house in the community. And you're able
when people come to these events, you're able to tell
your story.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Yes, I'm a living witness.
Speaker 5 (22:30):
Yes, got my paperwork, got your home, got my stamp
from the judge, all.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Right, all right, all right? And living well and living well.
Speaker 5 (22:41):
Thanking God for this house that I didn't ever think
I would be in today. But I'm here in it
and I love it good and it means something to
me because my parents struggled. Come on, sister, they struggled.
And when you have that, when you have parents who
struggle to try to have a home, and yes, and
paying for their own home, yes, yes, paid for paid
(23:05):
for You know, why would I leave a house?
Speaker 2 (23:07):
That's all you have to do? Now do paid a tax?
And that's my struggle. That's another story. That's another story.
I love it. I time retire and still working.
Speaker 5 (23:26):
I love me so asked about Yes, I am retired
from the Postal Service of thirty years.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Congratulate him.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
Retired from Memphis City Schools for twelve years. What and
now I'm currently working for Alsiball Development Corporation where I
am a connect associate. I love it and I love
what I do because look at me. I'm here with
Miss Bell jumpson.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Honey, I'm here with That's who I'm here with. I
love her. I love to hear the stories.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
When you you've retired, why wi And then you got
some folks, don't you want to work?

going to get with her director of training and tell
us what that's all about. And Miss Diane Reid, who
is a connector with the Alsey Ball CDC. And Diane,
(27:24):
you want to tell us what is going on?
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Yes, yes, yes, this Saturday.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
What is this November November fifteen, Yes, at the well.
It's the Old Corey School for you all at no
new Corey Middle School, but it's called Believe Memphis Academy
at twenty two point thirty Corey Road. We will be
there at nine thirty am in the morning and we
will at till one o'clock. And we will have lawyers there,
(27:57):
a lot of lawyers and people who are notaries and
whatever you need in order to talk to someone so
you can see where you are in the situation of
keeping your homehouse.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Who you're going to leave it to?
Speaker 5 (28:13):
Yeah, and who what are you going to do about
this or that, whatever that is. We have the attorneys.
We'll have the attorneys there that day to help you
go through and think through what you need to do,
and they can legalize your paperwork and all the things
that needed to be done. And it will be done
(28:34):
for free. Oh wow, all that free free men are
not thirty five hundred dollars which I would have had
to pay, but for free.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
And we just want to invite people to come and
just learn what it is you need to know so
that your family won't be angry with each other, fighting
with each other, and that house won't be left alone
just standing there to be fall down and be an
(29:07):
eyesore in the community. Do something about it now. So
I'm just reaching out and extending an invitation for you
guys to come out and see what it is you
need to do to make things right for you and
your family. So, Diane, do you have to live in
the Alsa Ball area, No, ma'am, And you do not
(29:29):
have to live in the Ansebal area. That's the one
thing about Alsaball Development Corporation. We serve people.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Now. Of course, we would love for you.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
To buy a house in als Ball, and we would
love to save your house in alse Ball if you
have one there, but we're not. You don't have to.
We help you live wherever you want to live. The
coming home a homeowner and learn to keep your house.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
I love that. I love that.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
Okay, that sounds good. Now let's bring it over to
Miss the Koljing. You're gonna be there training some folks,
so you're gonna be talking, Well, what's going on.
Speaker 15 (30:05):
Sister, So let me tell you what's going on. So
I will not be there training folks. The attorneys will,
but I will be there, you know, to leading God
and get people where they need to go.
Speaker 12 (30:15):
So let me tell you, guys A.
Speaker 15 (30:16):
Little bit worried too about this how to keep the
House Home Legal Seminar. Okay, as Miss di Ane said,
it's gonna be Saturday, November fifteenth, from nine thirty to
one pm at twenty two p thirty Cory Road, which
is Believe Mephits Academy. What we are requesting though, is
that we are requesting those that want to attend to
(30:37):
sign up okay, and so one way to get to
that sign up sheet is to go to alseaball dot
org and that's alcy b as in boy A L
L dot o RG. Go to our website and you
will see a banner that will pop up that'll take
you to our registration page.
Speaker 12 (30:56):
We are partnering.
Speaker 15 (30:57):
With West Tennessee Legal Services to put on this event
and in an effort to keep everything free for everyone,
so there's also an additional registration that is required through
West Tennessee Legal Services. We have the link and we
have the phone numbers to get you there. But the
first step is just to connect with us on our website.
We'll reach out to you and make sure you get
(31:19):
that second part to connect with West Tennessee Legal Services. Now,
some of the services that we will be providing. We
will be providing wheels, power of attorneys, and advanced directive documentation.
And so just because you come to the seminar doesn't
necessarily mean that you have to or want to get
(31:39):
paperwork done. You may just want to come and listen
and just get information on you know, what to do
for end of life documentation. However, if you want to
walk away from this clinic or this seminar with documentation,
you do need to register with West Tennessee Legal Services
before or are prior to the event. All right, okay,
(32:04):
but in a nutshell, if you've ever had to consult
with an attorney to get just a basic, simple will done,
you'll know that we'll.
Speaker 12 (32:13):
Start at about fifteen hundred dollars.
Speaker 15 (32:15):
Like Bev and Miss Diane said earlier, we are offering
these services completely free. I love that, so I would
encourage you that if you are in need of a will,
a power of attorney, advanced directive documentation, come to this
seminar on Saturday, get this information, get your affairs in order,
(32:35):
and we'll also have light refreshments as well, so we
won't we won't leave you hungry, but you can come
get your affairs in order, and all of this can
be taken care of for free.
Speaker 5 (32:46):
I like what you said, Nicole, because a lot of
times people don't have the money, and we know people
and some of our listeners and people are struggling now.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
And if you've been thinking.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
About or contemplate about getting a will or a power
of attorney, y'all would remember what I always say this
ladies to my listeners. When you hear about something that
is absolutely free, go take advantage of it. Take advantage
(33:19):
of this, because the ladies have told you they're going
to have attorneys there to help you with a will,
to help you know the information about power of attorney
and so and help you to save that home house, right, Diane,
that's correct, save your home. Don't leave it and then
(33:40):
your family arguing over it, children just walking off from
it because it's too much trouble at death. Don't do
that because your parents worked hard for that.
Speaker 10 (33:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:51):
And a lot of times we hear and as you said,
I'm so glad. You know, you have the siblings and
family members arguing, and then you might have one person
who says, well, let's sell it.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Well, no, we don't want to sell it. Then it's
a lot of.
Speaker 5 (34:04):
Messs off and on all the time. Yeah, and then
it becomes black for the people who lived there, and
then the neighborhood, right because they can't do anything about it,
and they say, well, why don't y'all do something, Well,
we can't because we don't own it, right, and we
you know, we have to go by the owners of
the house.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
And we got to find them.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
And that's sometimes you don't know where they's right, that's
a fishing game. So yeah, So on Saturday, Saturday, Free Services,
Free Services, November fifteenth, twenty two point thirty Cory Road,
Believe Memphis Academy. Okay, come on out and get this
information right Nicole.
Speaker 15 (34:45):
Yes, And I just want to, I guess give a
shout out to West Tennessee Legal Services for helping us
with this seminar. We partnered with them in an effort
to give more people help. So last year we did
this seminar. We did it once last year and the
demand was so great that we decided that we needed
to do this thing twice a year.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Wow.
Speaker 15 (35:06):
And so we had a legal seminar earlier this year
in May, and then this is the second one that
we're having this Saturday. But again, we've partnered with West
Tennessee Legal Services in an effort to be able to
assist more people on site. And so we want to
thank them for just volunteering their time, getting quite a
(35:26):
few attorneys to come on board and just give us
their services pro bono for free. Oh yeah, this is
a big deal in the black community. A lot of
us don't have our paperwork in order. We don't and
so we just want to make sure that when you
pass on, you have your affairs in order, that houses
not sitting up causing blight and being an eye sore
(35:47):
to the neighbors and the people of community, of the community.
And if you don't have a need for a will
get you an advanced directive or a power of attorney
so that you know, if you become medically disable, you
have somebody who has been a sign to make these
decisions for you. And then you also have a say
in your health care with an advanced directive whether you want.
Speaker 12 (36:09):
To be resuscitated or not.
Speaker 15 (36:11):
So these are all documents that are really important as
we begin to age and get older, and some of
us are leaving before we age and get older.
Speaker 5 (36:20):
Hey come on, so yeah, yeah, these young folks leaving here.
So another thing I wanted to ask, Nicole, will you
all also have information there? I'm sure you will, but
I'm asking so people will know about Elsie Ball.
Speaker 15 (36:36):
Absolutely, we would definitely have information there about upcoming events.
The last event that we're having this year will be
a Christmas party Christmas.
Speaker 12 (36:51):
December tenth.
Speaker 15 (36:52):
I'm sorry December tenth, sixteen seventy two East Alsie. That
is our main headquarters and that's where the Christmas party
will be. As Bev stated earlier, I am the director
of training. I teach a steps to home Ownership class
as well as a faith in Finance class, which is
a financial literacy class.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Oh good.
Speaker 15 (37:11):
Financial literacy is definitely needed in our community. Yes, we
should be able to push out a calendar sometime soon,
but we will kick the year off in January with
home ownership classes. So again, stay connected with us. Our
website is alceball dorg. You can go there and find
information about upcoming classes, upcoming events that we may have,
(37:34):
and also if you're wanting to connect with us on
this legal seminar, alcaball dot org is where you need
to go.
Speaker 5 (37:41):
And also for that when you're teaching that, Diane, is
that open again to other community.
Speaker 15 (37:48):
To All of our classes are free, okay, and it
is open to anyone in the community, whether you live
in Tennessee, Mississippi, where ever it is. If you are
a renter and you have a desire to be a homeowner,
then we want to help you achieve that goal. Whether
you live in al Saball or not. Just the opportunity
(38:08):
to be able to turn one person to one person,
from a renter to a home buyer is a win.
It's a win for us, whether it's with Alsaball or not.
We want to get people in a place where they
are creating some generational wealth.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
And also, when you talk about information for al Saball,
do you all also have that information that maybe someone
who is listening may want to move in that community,
you may have houses available.
Speaker 4 (38:38):
We do.
Speaker 12 (38:38):
I'm glad you asked that question.
Speaker 15 (38:40):
Yes, we have started dibbling and dabbling in the rental space.
Oh and so we we have quite a few rentals
right now. Okay, we do not have any that are
available at this point, but I am sure that we
will probably be acquiring more rental properties in the near future.
And I'll tell you a little bit about our rental program.
We're trying trying to set those renters up for home ownership.
(39:03):
The longest that they can stay in one of our
properties is two years, and we're giving them two years
to get themselves together, to get their credit, savings, all
those things that it takes to become a homeowner. And
we have what's called a tenant savings plan. And so
if you pay your rent on time every month, two
hundred dollars of your rent will go into a savings plan.
(39:24):
So by the end of your two year lease, you've
saved up quite a bit of money, and that money
will be yours to go towards down payment, closing costs,
whatever it is, inspection, whatever you may need that money for.
Speaker 12 (39:39):
In an effort to purchase a home.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
What would they be able to purchase the home they're renting.
Speaker 15 (39:46):
It all depends if we are deciding that we want
to turn that rental into or for sale property. Yes,
but however, we are consistently buying property right buying land.
As Portia stated early, we have five new homes that
we're in the process of building. We've built one, we
are in the process of breaking ground for two more,
(40:08):
and then we have two additional lights that we are
wanting to build on. I think started building within maybe
the next couple of months or so on the last
two lights that we have right across the street from
the office. So again, the desire is to make you
in homeowner, whether it's in Alsie or wherever in Shelby County.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
I like that good. That's good information to know.
Speaker 5 (40:31):

name was Miss Boyd.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
MS Boyd met Murty, Lee Boyd, Murdi, Lee Boyce. She
