Speaker 1 (05:09):
Black June is Black Music month, so we're celebrating our
black music. But when I first started this show and
talk to Nigi, that was that was my theme music.
I would come on with sweet Love by Naji. That
was when I first started this show thirty eight years ago.
(05:32):
The theme music was was sweet Love was by Naji
and I would play that until I got my own
theme song from my musical director, Casey kirk Clayton. But
I but my theme song was sweet Love and and
and segue, some sweet Lover is in the house, please
(05:55):
welcome in our automotive is specialist mess Ud Terry's by said, Hello,
sweet Love, Good morning, my beautiful radio Hall of famerly
Bev Johnson with that beautiful smile.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
How are you doing. I'm doing well today, Terry. I
don't complain. I just keep on rolling. Wouldn't do no
good if you did.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Nah, we just keep on rolling, brothers. But yeah, that
was a little history when I that is when I
thought about that. I said, when I started the show,
my theme music it was Sweet Love by Nagie Wow,
which is out A and Anita Baker cover.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Yeah Wow.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
But I I played that whenever I would come on
until that tenth year anniversary, Terry and I got my
own theme song.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Wait a minute, I got my own theme song that
that does like this, that's the you first came on air.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Yeah, that was that that at ten years on my
tenth year anniversary, I uh, I asked Casey said I
had talked to him and I said, Casey, you know
what I needed. I want a theme song for my
tenth anniversary. And he said okay. So we had been
talking about it and I never followed up. And then
(07:15):
when it came down, it was like like Monday is
ten years.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
I've been doing the show.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Call like oh I and I called Casey on a Friday, Terry.
I said, Casey, I need my theme somebody. He said,
what what I needed?
Speaker 3 (07:29):
By Monday? He said, okay, okay, tell me tell me
about your show. What just give me what you talk about?
Speaker 2 (07:35):
What?
Speaker 1 (07:36):
And I told him and he said and he went
from there and he took it from there by by
by Monday, you had it.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
I had it.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
He brought it to me. I played it. Fred Moore,
what was it?
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Fred?
Speaker 3 (07:47):
I forgot who was running my board. It may have
been may have been Fred or somebody. But they hit that.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
We hit that theme song. Bev's got Memphis talking and
it's been Hey, it is is and is. The rest
is history. The rest is history, the rest the rest.
And people love that song. And when I go out,
people will be singing and stuff. But Casey, and I've
(08:14):
had other people says, let me write.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Your theme song. Right, that worked, That's right? Why change it?
I'm not changing anything, you know, I'm if it. If
it works, why change it? You know people? But I
kept it.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
And because of Kirk Clayton. He is a musical genius.
And for people don't know Kirk. Kirk has played with
the Barkas he's playing now, but that he's the keyboard
player for Confunction now.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
He plays for Howard Hughes. I can the name of
the artist that he works for, but.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
He's bad boy Wow and he's a Memphian and so
he Kirk and how I met him every Sunday night, Terry,
we were doing Stairway to the Stars at at at
Club Royale, and Kirk was the musical, the director.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
And so, yeah, but he's a bad boy. Is he
on Facebook? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (09:03):
He is?
Speaker 3 (09:04):
What's his profile?
Speaker 2 (09:05):
K U r T?
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah, but a k k U r T Oh Clayton
Kate k Yeah, he's on there. He's on Facebook.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Let's see here, what's his profile photograph. I don't know
you're friends with him, but that's him.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
That's here.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Let me see that's Kirk. Oh wow, that's Kirk. That's
Kirk right there, Brother Kirk about to send you free request. Yeah,
because he's a bad boy. He's a bad boy. Yeah,
but uh, I just know and just it just triggered
I'm sorry, Terry just triggered back some memories because I
was thinking about, you know, because June is black music, money,
we're playing black music. And and then I thought, I said,
(09:45):
that was my theme song for the first for the
first nine years.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
That was my theme song.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
So that's Kirk Clay Kirk k k K. You know
him about k so so he he he got married
August the seven of twenty one. The sure that I'm
looking at you, that's a beautiful wife. Oh wow, you know,
nice guy.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
Nice. Nice. He looks he looks like he's super nice.
He is he is, but he's a bad he can
play them keyboard. He's bad. He is bad. He's bad.
But yeah, so that's so.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
I know.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
People have been asking me, do you a song? No, No,
I'm gonna stick with this until it's time for me
to say bye.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
I love him, miss Bad. How are you doing fine?
I love always love the history.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
You know, sometimes we take the beautiful, the influential person
that we see every day all the time. We kind
of take it for granted. But when you actually give
a little bit of a history, I'm gonna pause and
listen to it. That's awesome.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
It's bad. Well, thank you. Yeah, yeah, you know, I
got a little history. I know you've got stories. Story.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
I got some stories for some stories. You're you said one,
show you some stories. I'm about to take to the grave.
But I got tread with Fred Hollywood all he was saying, Queen,
take it to the grave. Okay, I know it's been
it's been a couple of weeks and since I've seen
you last anything interesting happening in your world and you're
(11:12):
and you'r or No, it's been been pretty pretty quiet, quiet,
but I'm getting ready to rip up, you know.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Oh yeah, yes, it's about to happen. Yeah, you know,
my hosting duties, they're about to start, about to start.
But hey, but I'm not mad.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
I know.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
It don't make money, it don't make sense. You're right,
that's right. So yeah, I'm good. I'm good.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
That's good. Before we get into our topics for today,
miss Bell. So between today and the last time I
saw you, your guy, he's dropped some bombs over overseas,
he's obliterated some of some assets.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
From what I think, Yeah, cheery, I don't know. I
don't know. You know, you don't And then and then
and then he dropped the F bomb on TV. I
saw that.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
I saw that, you know, interesting enough. You know, I
know some people love him President's Trump. Some people love them,
some people don't. But you would have to give him
a little bit of a little bit of credit because
most of us thought that once he dropped those bombs,
we were going to be in an elongated war. But
it looks like, feels like it's not going to be.
(12:29):
It's gonna be they stead of going to talk, have
a peace conversation. I guess next week with Iran. That's
what they said, eyes getting never. Terry say never because
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
I don't know Terry. So we're just gonna take it. Yeah,
day by day, we have to see. But hopefully I
hope we don't be in a war.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Yeah, it feels like we're not. I really hope that
we don't go that route. Also, before we get into
the automotive conversation, did you pay attention to the news
in New York last night? Como wasrunning against some new
guy and Como former governor of New York. Como lost
in the primary, the Democratic primary to the I can't right,
(13:10):
I know, I see his face, but yeah, but I
guess people say we don't want we had your governor
and then all the sexual allegations came up, and yeah,
we don't want.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
You for mayor.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Yeah, and that may be.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
And sometimes when you get a fresh face, face fresh started,
may be great.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
So we'll see what happens. And let me look up
this guy's name. I can't think. Yeah, I know he's
a young guy. Well I'm typing. Let me see.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
I heard it is u Zoran mam Dari Mamdani ma'm danni. Yeah,
so he is he's an immigrant, Muslim immigrant, and he
said he has broke a record or or or what
how did he phrase? It's been many many moons since
I guess an immigrant has been the mayor of New York.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
But there are still a general election they have to
go through.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Yes, I've heard that the current mayor, Eric Adams and
also now is independence. Well, I heard that former Governor
Andrew Cuomo will also be running as an independence what
I've heard, so the upcoming general election is going to
be really interesting to see how that unfolds. We'll be watching, right,
And I guess the only reason everybody's talking about it
is because New York is a pretty large city and
(14:23):
they try to figure out the barometer or get a
pulse of what's happening with different parties based on the
local elections.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Right, So let's go ahead and dive in, Miss Bell.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Before I get going, let me give a super high
salute to all of our police officers, all of our firefighters,
all those who are especially serving in our fine military,
active those who are none active. We thank you so
much for your service. As you know, Misbell, freedom it
(14:54):
is not free. There is a cost to be paid.
For our liberties here in the United States. That's bloodshed, unfortunately,
and of course there's money has to be spent to
protect us and our freedoms. High salute to all those
in the hospitals, all those in the medical feel. We
sincerely thank you for all that you do. So a
few topics for today, Miss Bev. Did you hear about
(15:16):
the the cargo ship that just sank with thousands of
cars on it. No, we're gonna talk about this is
a recent development, but so stand by for that. Also,
we are in the it's not even hot yet, but
it is hot.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Yes, it is. It's hot. It's pretty hot.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Would you believe that there are quite a few of
us who don't know how to correctly turn our AC on?
Speaker 3 (15:48):
You know, you know there's a right way to do
it in the in the in the heat. Right, it's bad. Oh,
I didn't. We're gonna talk about I can't wait to
hear that. We're gonna talk about that. I think I've
been doing it wrong.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
We're gonna get into that. So to make for sure
that you're using your AC very efficiently. Also, Miss Bev
has been she's a smart study. Every so often she
wants me to talk about hybrids. Would you believe or
let me phrase it this way, which one do you
believe is actually selling or looks to be selling more?
The hybrids or the all electrics. What you think, Miss Bevy?
(16:20):
You think the hybrids? Okay, we'll dive into that.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Also, Miss Bev, I know you don't like Uber, I
know you don't like lyft. You would rather take a taxi?
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Yes, sir, So let me ask you this question, Miss Bev.
In Texas this has just come out.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Tesla now has rubbo taxes where you can actually take
a taxi but there won't be a driver.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Would you take that taxi?
Speaker 2 (16:45):
No, sir? No, sir?
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Well, well that was that was an easy one.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
You have to see one thing about the radio that
that that that that that you all missus Bev's expressions
she never thought about doing a television show at some
point or in the past. Did you ever consider that,
because your expressions also are very commedient.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
I know right.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Well, I did, we did do. I used to do
a cable show back in the day. We had a
relationship cable show. Really yeah, Doctor Jeffries and I. It
was called Heart to Heart. It was away from the
radio station. Yeah, it was during that time Comcast. We
recorded in the Comcast studios. That's been a long time ago, Terry,
(17:26):
But yeah we did do Oh wow, we should crank
that back.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
And now you can do it. You can just do
a little podcast.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
Yeah, right, that expression again, got okay, okay, okay, so
just let me see here. Also, one more topic we'll
try to get into. Have you heard that there is
a particular rental car company that's going to start scanning
physically scanning the vehicle with AI before you take it
(17:55):
and when you come back to see if there are
any dents on it.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Okay, which all we did that. All right, we'll get
into that.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
All right, good topics, good topics, let's do it. Okay,
it's good topics, Terry. Terry's gonna be working today, y'all,
you're gonna work. We are talking with our automotive specialist,
Terry Spicer, who always will give us the automotive news
we can use when it's your turn to talk to Terry.

Welcome back to the heart and soul of Memphis w
(19:51):
d i A.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
We're talking with our automotive specialist, Terry Spicer. Terry, Thank you,
my beautiful radio Hall of family. If you've just joined in,
we're gonna be talking automotive today. Before we get going,
let me give a couple high salutes here to my
new friends. Miss Edna Stewart Big Ease what we call her.
(20:14):
She her daughter and granddaughter came out and visited with
me a couple times. But on June the seventh, they
actually missus Stewart bought herself a brand new buick Encore GX.
High salute to her daughter, Nicole Stewart and the beautiful granddaughter,
Miss Kay Miss bib.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
They were actually comparing a couple vehicles.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
She was comparing the Toyota Rav four with the buick
Encore GX and the reason why she decided to go
with the buick Encore GX. And I didn't pay attention
until she brought it up. We all know that Toyota
makes a great product. It's no arguments there. But she says, Terry,
when I looked inside of the RAV four, the technology
(20:56):
was not as as advanced the buick Encore GX.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
And she's right.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
The buick Encore GX the technology as of right now
is more advanced than the Toyota raf for and many
other makes and models.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
But Biggie, thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
I love you sincerely. That she has a beautiful family.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve. Also,
on yesterday, high salute to my new friend, missus Ashley
Wynn Bush. She bought herself a brand new Buick in Vista,
the Buick in Vista right now, the numbers don't lie.
It is the hottest selling vehicle in the mid South
(21:37):
right now. More in Vistas are sold than any other
make model right now. Also, high salute to her father,
Wayne win Bush, who made it happen. So thank you
all very much.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
So let's move to some headlines.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Here, miss bev So, a cargo ship in the Pacific
carrying thousands of cars just sank. Let me reach you
this report here. This comes from the New York Times
and the headline is cargo ship that caught fire carrying
(22:12):
electric vehicles sinks in the Pacific three weeks after a
fire broke out on the ship off the coast of Alaska.
The ship's name is the Morning Midas. It sank along
with thousands of cars on board. Let's read some more
specifics for you here. The cargo ship that caught fire
(22:35):
off the coast of Alaska sank in the Pacific Ocean
on Monday after burning for three weeks, bringing down with
it thousands of cars in its hold. The Morning Midas
sank three hundred and sixty nautical miles from land after
damage from both the fire and severe weather. According to
(22:55):
a statement from Zodiac Maritime, the ship's manager, none of
its cargo was salvaged before the ship went down. The
company said the six hundred foot ship was carrying seventy
electric vehicles, six hundred and eighty one hybrids, and more
than two thousand conventional vehicles. According to the US Coast Guard,
(23:19):
it also had more than eighteen hundred metric tons of
ship fuel on board, creating a potential all spill. There
were no visible signs of pollution as of Tuesday, the
Coastguard said in a statement. Two salvage tugboats remained near
where the ship sank to monitor for pollution or debris,
(23:42):
with another vessel on the way to protect the ocean environment.
Coming from the Zodiac Maritime MISBAV that is very, very fascinating.
I'm looking at the photographs. Here, here's that big ship here. Wow,
they said. Now the speculation is, you know, of course
electric vehicles. They have batteries, lithium ion batteries, and they're
trying they're trying to find out if potentially a battery
(24:05):
in one of the cars caught fire to start it.
So that's under investigation. But that's a pretty big hitline
and it just it just broke. So I want to
make for sure that our Radio Hall of Famer listeners
are up to speed on anything and everything automotive. So,
miss Bell, we are in the midst of a heat wave.
It seems the whole the whole Mid South is under
(24:27):
a heat wave. And I have the East Coast also, Yeah,
East Coast central area.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Yeah yeah, and and and it hadn't got hot yet.
We just getting started.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Somebody I saw a post online that says, nature, whatever
you got going, whatever you're trying to cook, it's done
down a little bit.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
So you know a lot of us, Miss Bell and myself,
it's included.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Before I got into the car business, I didn't really
study every aspect of a car, and I would.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
I would calculate that most people don't.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
But there is a right way or right setting to
turn your vehicle to get the best air condition.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Let me pull this article up, so ms BEV, you've
seen this button here.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
I'm gonna know the I know the listening audience can't
see this, but you see that button there. Okay, I'm
glad you showed me that. Okay, yeah, so let me
read this. I just showed BEV a photograph inside of
your vehicle. Near the AC button, you will see a
symbol of a car, and it looks like a C
is inside that car.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
That's the recirculating.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Arrow.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
But let me read you this, and this will make
complete sense to you once I read it.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
Most vehicles have a recirculation button as part of their
AC controls, but many of us aren't sure when to
use it. The simple rule of thumb is to use
it in the in the summer and turn it off
in the winter. The recirculation button works by taking the
(25:59):
air inside your car and recirculating it within the cabin
rather than pulling in fresh air from outside. On extremely
hot days like we're dealing with right now, if you
don't use the recirculation feature, your AC system has to
cool the hot air from outside, which can be less efficient.
(26:25):
By recirculating the cooler air inside the car, you can
cool your vehicle more quickly and reduce the strain on
your AC system. Side note, if your car has been
sitting in the sun, it's better to roll the windows
down and turn off the recirculation for the first.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Minute or so.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
This allows the superheated air inside to escape before you
before you turn the recirculation on. Additionally, anytime you're stuck
in traffic, whether it's summer or when, be sure to
use the recirculation feature. If you are pulling air from
the outside, you're also pulling in pollutants and carbon monoxide
(27:10):
from the traffic around you. Studies show that using the
recirculation feature can reduce the amount of pollutants entering your
vehicle by twenty percent when you're stuck in traffic. So
to summarize, because it is so hot outside, near your
AC system, there is a symbol of a vehicle. It
looks like the letter C. That's actually a circulation image.
(27:34):
But use that button because it's gonna circulate the air
in the cockpit or in your cabin, so your vehicle
does not have to work as hard to cool that
air down. Just FYI, I have noticed that a lot
of people actually don't know that. You know, it's interesting,
miss Bell. Most folks I have to say, I'm including
you know. We'll buy something new and I'll figure it out.
(27:55):
You just open the package up and get going. Or
we may skip the manual and just go to YouTube
for things that we're interested in. But that is just
some information you can use. It is so hot out here.
So let's move on to another topic here, ms bev
a matter of fact in something, let me go ahead
and I didn't bring this up as a topic. Let
(28:15):
me go ahead and add it tire entire pressure in
the heat. So let me just read this to you
for those who may not know. In general, you should
maintain your tire pressure at the vehicles manufactures recommended recommended
level typically found on a sticker inside the driver's side
(28:37):
door jam or in the owner's manual.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Regardless of the season.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
However, tire pressure fluctuates with temperature, so it's crucial to
check and adjust when tires are cold, ideally in the
morning before driving. But in this situation, in the heat
right now that we're dealing with, in the in the
hot weather, tire pressure increases due to air expansion, so
it is important to ensure tires are not overinflated, which
(29:04):
can lead to blowouts.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
So protect yourselves out there.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Make sure your AC systems are working on the recirculation,
and check your tire pressure, making for sure those tires
are not bulgeing, especially at high speeds when it can be.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
It can cause some serious, some serious damage. All right,
mss BEV.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Let's move here, so off the subject, not getting off
some of my topics real quick. I like to always
spread this information very soon here our kids will be
going back to school, and our young adults will be
going back or onto college for the first time, and
the market they do come out and look for vehicles
(29:43):
at that time. You have a lot of parents looking
for vehicles for their children, and there's a small number
of parents that want to go out and they want
to pay cash.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
And we know that that market exists. Just FYI, when
you are.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Going to a dealershi, and you say, I have three
four thousand dollars cash, just know, in this market with
car prices three four thousand dollars, somebody gonna sell you
that car for three four thousand dollars. But at that
price point, especially at a dealership, it's gonna have some problems.
If they tell you it's perfect, nothing is wrong with it. Now,
(30:20):
if a little old lady traded in, all she used
it was for going back and forth to church, that's
far few and in between. But if that's the situation,
you might have a jewel there and jump on it.
But most of the time, a three four thousand dollars vehicle,
it's gonna have a problem or two or three. I
can recall Miss Bell when I was younger, a three
(30:40):
four thousand dollars cash car. Matter of fact, my first
car was a fourth This is back in nineteen ninety one. Two.
I believe I bought a nineteen was it? It was
a nineteen eighty seven eighty eight MASI six two six
or whatever. It was four thousand dollars and it was
really nothing. It's a stick shift, but it was really
(31:02):
nothing wrong with it. But back then, this is back
in the late eighties, early nineties, or four thousand on
a car, you could probably buy something with few problems,
or maybe not none at all. But in this market,
three four thousand dollars you're gonna probably buy a problem
or two. So the new number, in case you don't know,
you need to have about six seven thousand dollars, that's
(31:22):
the new three four thousand dollars in this market.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
Unfortunately. Now I'll tell my parents.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Who are looking for cars for their youngsters getting ready
to go off to college, especially they're gonna be driving
back and forth from Memphis from Nashville or Atlanta, I
would recommend that they go to a inexpensive new car
with full manufacturer's warranty, or if not that, go and
look at a pre owned, certified vehicle. And no matter
(31:49):
what dealership you go to, if it's a Lexus, if
it's a Lincoln, if it's a GMC, if it's a Cadillac,
maybe not Calliac.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
That's kind of on the upper end. But you get
the point.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
If you don't buy new, pre on, certified gives you,
if not the same, in a lot of cases, more
warranted than a new car.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
So try to go that route.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
And I am in the real world. I know everyone
doesn't want to finance. I'm well aware that some of
us just want to pay cash and get on about
our business. But just keep that in your mind. Six
seven thousand dollars will probably get you something fairly decent
with the miles are not extremely high.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Let's move on here. Miss Bell So.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Hybrids, the Queen Bee, She'll sometimes ask me the question
or tell me to talk about the hybrids. Now, they're
two type, at least two type of electric vehicles. You
have the all electric, which all that vehicle uses is
electric power to turn those wheels and get you down
(32:50):
the road. But you also have the hybrid vehicle. The
hybrid hybrid would be hybrid vehicles. They use electric and
gas and the way that works. And I think why
Miss BEV would be more comfortable. She probably wouldn't want
either one, but she would be more comfortable with the
hybrid is because when the when these electric batteries are
(33:13):
fully charged, the vehicle is gonna use the electric power
to get it going down the road. When that electric
power gets low, it's going to without you asking you
to do so, it's gonna switch over to the combustion
to the gasoline. And the benefit of that is when
you're driving with a hybrid, you can always pull over
(33:33):
and get gas. That infrastructure is everywhere. The electric infrastructure
is not everywhere. So if you are considering going the
electric route, hybrid may be a good in between all
electric and gas. But I will say the electric vehicles
(33:54):
are becoming more properly. It has slowed down. If you
think about a blue Oval miss Bead Blue Over, which
is Ford's plant up the road here. They were supposed
to be full throttle this year. I read a report
this way. Yeah, twenty twenty five was their target to
launch and to produce those trucks full throttle.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
But the market has changed. Evs have not been They
have not had the same appute.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
The market has not had the same appetite as it
did around COVID times. So I read the article today
that Ford of course adjusted that time. It's going to
be the mint to later part of twenty twenty seven
when they go full throttle with producing those trucks.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
But just keep that in mind.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
If you're looking to go electric or you're thinking about it,
you know there are good benefits for going all electric
because there are some tax credits on certain vehicles when
you go all electric, but the hybrid if you want
to go but you're not ready to go all the way,
in consider the hybrid vehicles. Let me also give this
information for you. If you have had credit, and believe me,
(35:02):
credit is like it's like the stock market. We have
seen our scores over eight hundred. We have seen our
scores drop below seven, maybe below six. If your scores
are below six for whatever reason, and you're going to
buy a car, there is a really good chance your
interest rate is going to be around twenty percent somewhere thereabout.
(35:24):
And now, always like to encourage my folks until my guest,
when you go to buy a car and you're presented,
presented that interest rate is higher than where you've seen
it in the past, and there's no other option for you,
meaning you don't have more money to put down or
you don't have anyone to co sign with.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
You don't fret.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Your scores will go back up. They take a little
bit of work to get them back up, but you
might have to take that deal and staying always last
because because I say this quite frequently, but it's true.
If you buy a car and your rate is higher
than you want it to be, my advice is to
(36:06):
keep the car and pay for it somewhere between thirteen
and twenty four payments. Here's the funny part. Eighteen payments
is the sweet spot. Stan gets a kick out of that.
That's a sweet spot, which means if you've made eighteen
one time payments, seventeen of the payments show up in the.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Credit file, you have reduced. You have reduced the balance
on that vehicle.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
The bank has not made a ton of money a
profit on you with the interest, and you can most
likely at that time trade into something else or refinance
it and get that rate down.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
So it's just.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
About taking your time to get your scores back up.
And I'm bringing this up because I have come in
contact with several guests lately that they have seen their
scores higher and I have to tell them credit score
is going to fluctuate, it's never gonna remain static. Meaning
if you have a credit card and let's say that
credit card has a ten thousand dollars that you can
(37:09):
charge up to ten thousand dollars. And let's say you
charge nine thousand dollars on that credit card. Well, guess
what your credit score is gonna come down. But once
you pay the credit card back down below ten percent
is an example, your scores will jump back up. So
don't be don't fill away, don't get depressed when your
scores are low, they will come back up. Friends, Here's
(37:30):
the rule of thumb. I want you to keep in mind. Also,
no matter what dealership you go to, no matter what
card you're looking at, here is the rule of thumb
for you to write down and remember. That rule of
thumb is this. It is based on what I'm about
to tell you. Is based on financing for five years,
sixty months at a nine percent interest rate, So just
(37:52):
bear in mind that's where this formula is coming from.
But most folks will finance for seventy two months, which
is six years, and that rake and fluctuate. But based
on five years at nine percent, every ten thousand dollars
you finance, on average, the payment will be roughly two
hundred dollars, which means a fifteen thousand dollars vehicle. On
(38:12):
an average, we'll have your payments at about three hundred
dollars one more twenty thousand dollars vehicle. No matter what
vehicle you're looking you at, that payment will be on
average four hundred dollars. So when you're out looking at
prices of vehicles, you don't have to ask the salesperson
what would the payment be on this You already have
an idea of what that payment would be. Now, if
you you go inside and your credit score is five
(38:32):
oh five, your rate will be twenty percent somewhere close
to that. And just go ahead and add one hundred
and fifty dollars to that formula to kind of get
you where your payment will be.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
So let's move on to another topic. Here. Bell doesn't
like lift or Uber.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
But down in Texas, your good friend Elon must Speaking
of Elon, what happened to him and President Trump?
Speaker 3 (38:56):
Miss Bell?
Speaker 1 (38:57):
They were buddies. He had a bromance. Is that gonna happen?
Speaker 2 (39:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (39:03):
So so now he's just back doing his which I
thought that was the best move.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Stay doing your business because Elin has a lot of admirers,
and when you go into politics, you make people feel
away about you if they don't support whoever he's you know,
shouldering up with. But anyway, here's the headline, Musk Rubo
taxes draw regulatory scrutiny after video shows one driving in
an opposing lane. Now, Bell really not getting in the
(39:30):
car after hearing that, So here's the here's the article.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
It reads, Federal.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Traffic safety regulators are looking into suspected problems with Elon
musk test run of self driving rubbo taxis.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
Oh, one moment and they get my camera back going.
You know, I do a lot of recording.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
Okay, so uh so in Texas, I mean, so make
sure I Don'm missing so so, federal traffic safety regulators
are trying looking into suspected problems with Elon Musk's test
run of self driving robotaxes in Texas after videos surface
showing them breaking suddenly or going straight through an intersection
(40:13):
from a turning lane and driving down the wrong side
of the road.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
Not good things.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
And belv is really really not getting in one of
those taxes out the hearing that. The National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration said Tuesday that it was it has axed
Tesla for information about the apparent eras though many other
videos show robotaxes driving perfectly. If regulators find any major issues,
(40:43):
that would likely raise questions about must repeated statements that
the robot taxes are safe. And it's claimed that Tesla
will dominate a future in which nearly all cars on
the road would have no one behind the wheel, or
even Nita Stern wheel. Does that not make your the
butterflies flutter? So let me end it with this is
(41:08):
the passengers in Tesla robotaxes on the road in Austin,
Texas have generally been impressed, and the stock for Tesla
rose eight percent on Monday. Investors grew more cautious Tuesday
after news of the National Highway Safety Patrol Association rather inkory,
(41:29):
and the stocks fell about two percent.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
So, miss Bill, that is the future, our future. We're
going self driving.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
You know.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
We have even at Sunrise in Bartley where I'm located,
the Sunrise Store on Highway sixty four, we sell vehicles.
They're not fully autonomous, but we have vehicles that have
a technology called super crews. And what that means if
you're driving, for an example, you're driving from Memphis to Nashville,
as my example, you can turn on Supercrews and take
(41:57):
your hands off the stering wheel. But this tech knowledge
of the difference is that the cameras are watching your eyes,
and it's watching your body, your body language. If your
eyes like if you if you were to go to sleep,
your eyes should close, It's gonna chirp and tell you
to take over the steing wheel because it wants you
to be alert.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
So that is a technology. Miss BEV. When you find
Supercrews interesting, if you're driving from here to Florida, to
BEV has no interest at all, No, no, sir, Let
me drive, Let me be behind the wheel.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
MS Bell.
Speaker 3 (42:31):
So if we left it up to Miss Bell, we'll
be driving combustions to the.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
Exactly to the end of time, exactly, exactly exactly Terry.
Speaker 3 (42:41):
Good info, good info. We gotta break.
Speaker 1 (42:43):
Let's do it all right. Callers, I see you calling,

We are talking with our automotive specialists. Terry Spicer is
in the house. Terry, We're going to our phone lines
to talk to some of our listeners.
Speaker 3 (45:16):
Thank you' all for waiting. Good afternoon to you. My
brother Clyde Hey, Clyde.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
Poor Bell Jon.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
How you doing? Are you doing here, Clyde? What's up?
My good friend?
Speaker 2 (45:28):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (45:29):
Look here, I want you to explain something because I
said anytime something be on my mind, you papaupon Bell Jones.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
Now what I want to explain to because I never
heard they told me that I have exaity in my car.
Speaker 4 (45:46):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
That means you got, you got, And I'm.
Speaker 5 (45:49):
Gonna sit back and listen so you can explain to
me what they meant about that.
Speaker 3 (45:54):
Yeah, all right, click, I got to lie Bye bye.
Speaker 1 (46:00):
I have a good question to say. Good question, Shay
if people probably think and don't think to call in
and ask. But what that means that gives us folks
in the automotive industry when you come in to try
to trade your car in, and let's say, clyden't give
me any figures, so I'm gonna just make up some numbers.
Let's say he brought his vehicle in and he owes
(46:21):
the bank. He owes the bank five thousand dollars to
get the title for that car. But when they appraise
the vehicle, it's worth ten thousand dollars, which means they're
gonna give him ten thousand dollars. He takes five pays
off the bank and now he has the title. Well,
(46:43):
if he trades it in the dealership, we have the title.
So he has five thousand dollars more. Make sure I'm
saying is right, Bill, Make sure I'm make sure you're
following this. He's got five thousand dollars more than it's
what he owes the bank, so he has equity. If
I'm making any sense, are you with me?
Speaker 3 (47:01):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (47:01):
So I had a good customer to see if I
can pull her name out it because I gave her
a shout out last month. She was a miss and
she won't mind me saying this because I gave her
a shout out last month, missus R Linda Phillips. She
came in and traded in her GMC terrain and she
had equity. I think it was about five thousand dollars,
(47:24):
and five thousand dollars equates to about one hundred dollars
of a payment. So when she traded in her GMC terrain,
she got herself a brand new Buick in Vista, which
is the hartest selling vehicle in the mid South. Right now,
her payment on the new call was brought down by
one hundred dollars because she had five thousand dollars of
(47:47):
positive equity that went over to her new loan, or
five thousand dollars on paper, it looks like almost a
down payment, but it's not a down payment.
Speaker 3 (47:56):
So Clyde, great question. If you have equity, that means
that you are in a good position.
Speaker 1 (48:01):
Now before go back to the linesman's bed, Let's say
you have negative equity. So let's say you come in.
We're gonna use a similar example. Let's say you come in,
you owe the bank five thousand dollars. But when they
appraise your car, and most of us fit into this,
when they appraise your car, the vehicle comes back at
a value of twenty five hundred dollars, which means in
(48:23):
order for you to get the title, you have to
pay them five thousand, but your vehicle is only worth
twenty five. That means it's twenty five hundred dollars that
has to carry over to your new car loan, or
if you're not trading, in order to get that title,
you're selling the vehicle to a dealership. You have to
come out of your pocket with twenty five hundred dollars
to conclude that deal, Misbell, before we continue in my notes,
(48:46):
what you got here over?
Speaker 3 (48:47):
Go back to our phone line. Let's do it all right?
W d I a prince of the chore? Oh wows
the dear slayer? Has this guy the coffee killer.
Speaker 5 (48:59):
Richer?
Speaker 2 (49:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (49:00):
Exactly all of that?
Speaker 5 (49:02):
Brother, Oh my goodness, he Beth is always good afternoon
and listeners to the spice man. What's going on?
Speaker 3 (49:09):
Where Prince Charles? My apology? Where have you been?
Speaker 5 (49:14):
I've been around, you know, like like Papa pay I
get around.
Speaker 3 (49:18):
Are you crazy?
Speaker 5 (49:19):
Oh? Yeah, I've been doing a little bit of traveling.
Speaker 2 (49:24):
Yes I have.
Speaker 5 (49:24):
I've been you. I went down to down to South
America for a while, had a great time, carry had
a chance to have you ever been to Panama?
Speaker 2 (49:32):
You know?
Speaker 3 (49:33):
I wanted to go to Palamona.
Speaker 1 (49:34):
I have not been anywhere south of the US other
than the farthest south I have been is the.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
What is the Yeah?
Speaker 2 (49:42):
What is that?
Speaker 3 (49:43):
What's the place of the you like going? Miss bev.
Key West, that's farthest south.
Speaker 1 (49:47):
I've been Key West, Florida, and I've seen Cuba from
the coastline of Key West.
Speaker 3 (49:52):
But no, you got it going on.
Speaker 5 (49:55):
Oh yeah, it's beautiful, Kerry. If you ever get an
opportunity to go and it's a beautiful thing, especially if
you get a chance to go through the canal. There's
nothing likely to be sitting there on that that that
ship and actually going through.
Speaker 3 (50:08):
Trump said he taking that canal back.
Speaker 5 (50:11):
Well, he didn't already got it. Fact, a lot of
people don't realize that the United States is now fully
and operational along with the Panama UH government has taken
over as I don't think they've taken over, but but
they're back in the hands where it belonged because before
then it was basically under China UH government and they
took that away. They didn't want China to have that
(50:32):
because if China had a head that they could have
put any kind of term on all the ships going
in and out from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast.
So I'm kind of glad of that. So that's kudos
for him doing something like that.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
What do you think about, Prince Charles, what do you
think about President Trump dropping those bucker busters over in Iran?
Speaker 5 (50:52):
I'm totally forwarded. I made him mentioned on stand show yesterday.
A lot of people are upset, But I have to
tell them this. If our man had got their hands
on this nuclear capability, the first country that was gonna
annihilate was Israel. That's that's what I doubt. And we
know that how they feel about the United States who
supports Israel or any other country that supports it. So
(51:12):
they was gonna make some kind of big I ain't
gonna say bang, but they were gonna make a big
stink about this. Now if you look at it like this, Terry,
I know, by getting off just a little bit. But
if you look at what they're doing right now and
they don't even have nuclear capabilities, and all the melicines
that they shoot you over in Israel, why not they're
eventually gonna come around there where it hits you. Terry,
(51:34):
I have a card question for you. But pretty much
Clyde and the lady picked off me when you made
the mention about all the intensives that people get if
they don't have a high efflity. Now, Terry, for those
who do have a high equity, you just made a mention,
could you explain it a little bit more for a
safe for example, let's use me for an example. I'm
(51:55):
top heavy in my vehicle, and I wanted to get it.
I wanted to trade it in and get another vehicle.
So all that money that I, oh, I'm gonna have
to still pay that back if I want to get
that vehicle from you under that new loan, am I correct?
Speaker 1 (52:09):
Yeah, since you brought that up, Prince Charles, let me
take a moment and go to there's a good number
of us that bought our vehicles right after COVID between
y yeah, between the years twenty twenty one in twenty
twenty three, a lot of us, and we knew we
were doing it. We paid too much for the cars
(52:31):
because the market was pushing us there. If you just
to give the folks a reminder what got us to
that point. There was a micro chip shortage around the
COVID time, if you can recall, and the new cars,
the production of them went almost came to a complete
halt because they couldn't get the chips to put in
the car, which which inevitably made folks going by pre
(52:52):
owned vehicles. As a matter of fact, you had rental
car companies going back out buying cars from the auction
use cars so they can rent out to folks. So
that made the prices of the used car inventory get high,
if not higher than a new car, and banks were
financing that because that's what the market called for. Getting
(53:12):
to the point here, if you bought your car between
the years twenty twenty one in twenty twenty three, ninety
percent of us pay too much for it. Now here's
the point that Prince Charles is making. If you pay
too much in that timeframe and you you're wanting to
trade what the folks Most folks are finding out when
(53:33):
they go to trade that try to trade their car in,
they are their negative equity. Speaking of the question, great question,
mister Clyde, The negative equity is about ten thousand dollars
on average.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
And what I tell folks, because some folks.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
They don't really completely understand how to get out of that,
there's two ways to do it. The first way is
to trade it in on a brand new car with
a manufactures rebate. That rebate is gonna help clean up
the negative equity that you have. Now, what happens is
people will say, I got this car with this negative equity.
(54:11):
All I need to this is what they're thinking, and
it's not right. All I need to do is to
trade it in into a used car to get my
payment down. Use cars don't have a rebate. Use cars are.
It is a lot tougher to bring negative equity over
into a used car because a lot of times the
(54:31):
used car is already they've already whoever the dealership, they
bought it from, the auction or they've traded it in,
so they got it in at a hopefully a decent price.
You know, people fight you on their trade value, so
sometimes they spend more money to get the trade in.
Once they get the trade in, they have to spend
money to get it ready for resale. And the book
values are higher most of the time on a used car.
(54:55):
And I don't want to go into a whole lot
of detail and confuse folks, but just to keep this
simple so I can get back to Prince Charles's question,
if you do have ten we're gonna use ten thousand example,
if you have ten thousand dollars of negative equity, and
I'll share with you once Prince concludes of how to
figure that out for yourself. If you do have that
much a negative equity, find a manufacture as an example,
(55:18):
the buick Encore GX. It has a three thousand dollars
rebate the twenty twenty five model, and that will help
clean up your negative equity. Now, Prince Charles, I have
a Prince Charles. I'll be quiet now and let you
continue your question because I don't want to give out
more information than you want me to.
Speaker 5 (55:38):
My next statement and I'll let you go. All admit
that you know I'm looking to purchase another car myself. Yes,
but you know what, Terarry, when I go to these dealerships,
especially the ones on Cove and Pipe, so that's pretty
much you got the stretch, and every dealership out there
is give me a better dealer saying that they give
me a better deal than the previous one that you got.
(55:59):
How do you know the person is giving you or
the dealership is giving you the ultimate best? Because right now,
if you watch the commercial, they give you an employee discount,
discount off, this, discount off this. How do you really know?
And the reason why I say that, Terry, is because
I look at some of these cars, and these cars
are going thirty forty fifties and own up as a car,
(56:20):
it's a car. Why is the prices for so far up?
Which about what ten fifteen twenty years ago that same car.
You can get it half the place.
Speaker 2 (56:30):
Yeah, and you get that.
Speaker 5 (56:32):
And if you wait, if you wait, and I tell
people that this does me, Darry, and I tell people this,
if you you want a car to this bed and
if you can go, like you said, wait for a prean,
you wait a year or two for that same car.
You want to believe how much of that sticker price
has went down. I'm talking about two thousands. And if
(56:54):
they don't do that, Terry, I always say, well, listen
to Terry, and I tell them to listen to you.
But the best time I have I ever figured out
to buy a brand new car has to wait at
the end of the year when they basically are giving
them away and you're not paying that four price when
they first come out, because the twenty twenty sixth are
not coming out and you're gonna pay that twenty twenty
six price. But if you wait at the end of
(57:15):
the year for the twenty twenty seven, you're gonna save
a tremendously amount of money on those cards. But that's
just me, Terry. It's always then. I want Q and Terry.
They have a beautiful, blessed, safe and healthy and stay hydrated.
And it's always say Bell's, I always say that it's
hot out here. Please do not leave your animals or
your children, especially the young ones in the car. And
(57:37):
if you know of anybody who's elderly checked on them
because it's hot out here, Bed, thank you.
Speaker 1 (57:42):
Thank you, Prince, thank you, Prince child and Terry. Before
you know, get your last topic. You have another call

matter of seconds if you just tuned in, make sure
you're using your AC right in this hot weather.
Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
When you turn on the AC.
Speaker 1 (01:02:36):
There is a should be a photograph of a picture
rather of a vehicle or symbol of a vehicle with
a little C in the inside.
Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
That's a recirculation button. Press that button.
Speaker 1 (01:02:45):
It's gonna recirculate the air inside the cabin so the
vehicle does not have to pull the air from the
outside and cool that down. It takes longer, So word
from the wives. Use that button before we get out
of here. One other topic here Hurts the rental card
placements Bell. They are using some new technology. Hurts is
introducing scanners that use artificial intelligent software.
Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
To scan your vehicle.
Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
They're gonna ride it through this scanner before you take
the vehicle to see if there are any dense deans
or scratches. And when you come back, it's gonna scan
the vehicle in again and see if there are any
changes to that body. And I've read a report here
that someone got charged two hundred and sixty dollars for
a little scratch, So will that be a benefit. Not sure,
but that's what's coming with the technology. If you need
