Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening the Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, we're not gonna
be off. Not after Syracuse hangs a fifty burger on
the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. I kept waiting for you
to call in. No, d no, no, not after Josh
Rosen Prus. He's gonna be the Jet savior quarterbacks about oh,
no days off, no play it, no days off. He's

(00:22):
gonna come back from thirty five down for the Jets. Hey,
if there's any team to go to where you're gonna
be thirty five down a lot, it's the Jet. Let's
be serious. I mean, let's let's let's be honest. What
team can he go to? Here? He's gonna be done
like Sheldon Richardson got traded. I kept they were like
a hundred stories that I figured on Friday, I was
gonna have you as the odd man in from wherever

(00:46):
you were driving. Hey, let's talk about that next story
that concerns my team's greetings and welcome inside the Jason
Smith Show and Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Radio dot
Com and I Heart Radio. Jason, my Carmen, I hope
you had a wonderful, fantastic long weekend. UH quick update
college football before we get into the big story, which

(01:07):
you know what the big story is. Right now, midway
through the fourth quarter, Georgia Tech leads Tennessee. I feel
like I'm watching a game from the nineteen thirties. How's that?
Because through three and a half quarters, Georgia Tech has
sixty eight rushing attempts for three d and seventy yards.
Isn't it fantastic? And they've thrown seven passes and yet

(01:29):
this game is still three hours long. At this point,
rushes for three hundred and seventy yards and I mean seven,
although in nineteen thirty seven passes would be a lot.
Maybe I don't know. No slinging sammy bah no, not
a all right, at least seventy years ago. I feel
like I'm watching again every run, run, run, and they

(01:51):
can't stop him, and Tennessee can stop my get it?
But Georgia Tech got a touchdown every quarter? Well, then
we have that the other day. It wasn't that what
Nadi ran, The ran the ball, but twice wasn't that
the Yeah, but it's still they attempted to pass his head.
Zero completions they were over two. But there's been games
like that. But they're a team that does that, they
don't throw the ball at all. I mean, this is

(02:13):
you're you're playing in the A c C. There's supposed
to be a team that they were in. Our offense
is gonna look like it's the twenty one century. But
if you have the opportunity to run the ball down
the throat of Butch Jones, don't you Oh wait, yes,
you always want to be able to give in the
opportunity to just say, you know what, stop it. That's

(02:33):
one of like the greatest things you can do in
any professional sport, any collegiate sport. Hell, going all the
way to the blacktop. If there's a move it's the
old Gretzky move, the Jeremy Rohonick move on n hlo.
If you can keep going to that move, why would
you ever stop? Okay, no hand off right, hand off left. Look,

(02:54):
I got my two step down. All sight I said
was it looks like I'm watching a game from nine team.
And sometimes I just need, you know, I just need
I just need you know, every I just everybody with
muddy uniforms where you can't tell what numbers they are.
That would be kind of good, you know that. That's
that's the one. I mean, that's really that's all you need.

(03:14):
It's just I can't tell who everybody is. I don't
know it's the single wing. I mean, we get it
in slow motion, so it kind of looks like something
out of any given Sunday when there's a big rainstorm,
or at the beginning of Last Boy Scout when Dade
Blanks pulls out the gun and shoots the guy. Sorry
spoiler alert. Things I think things I don't think I've
ever seen in a football field, but Marshall, but that

(03:35):
was a shocker when he came out and yeah, and
I'm like, you better start scoring some touchdowns, Billy, and
start scoring them quickly. And then he put then he
then he then he shoots the guy, and then he
goes and does Tibo Billy Billy Blanks before he was
Billy Blank. N go see Las Boy Scout. Billy Blanks
is only in the movie very early for a couple

(03:57):
of minutes, and he does that. He runs for a
touchdown and he scores. He pulls a gun out of
his waistman and he starts shooting the defensive players on
its way into the ends. I mean, that's the way
to break through a secondary he was. I mean, we've
seen other guys do it with panash, with a Walter
Payton stiff arm, maybe a spin move from Barry Sanders O. J. Simpson,

(04:19):
just barreling over guys. That's where you're gonna go. Where
to go? You were fine all the way up until
the end. We were talking, we were talking earlier. You
had to let me get to the end I was going.
I was going back in my timeline with running backs.
He couldn't. You couldn't. You didn't mentioned him at Smith,
you know, you know, because I would be credit to
the offensive. You mentioned Freeman McNeil. Ye, all right, but

(04:44):
again an Earl Campbell in how about that? But I
don't want people think Billy Blanks just did it because
he was under a lot of pressure because he was
helping to fix a game and it wasn't going well.
So that's why let me guy. He had his gun,
you know, because these guys will get out of my
way if I'm running, and if they don't, just shoot them.
And he gets in the end zone and he you know,
then he then he shoots himself. That's that's the opening

(05:06):
scene to a movie right there. It was pretty good.
That was it. What was it like the early nineties too?
What if we had this for an open How do
you how do you sell that for a movie. Here's
the opening scene, right, we make it look like realistic football.
It's awesome. It's at night and all by the way,
there's no lights in the stadium. It's like this game
is being played in an absolute pitch black. You can't
see anything because that's how they do it in football.

(05:27):
And opening the guy is so nervous, but he shoots people,
Like what what do you mean? Now? He runs down
the field and he actually pulls a gun out there.
Get what happens to the defenders? He gets he gets
through the hole and has enough time in stride to
pull the gun out. Really, that's what he does, okay?
And then what does he do? Like you know, he
gets one guy in the knee, gets one guy. Oh,
and then he gets in the end zone okay, and

(05:48):
and then what happens? And then he then he shoots himself.
All right, And we want people to believe that this
is a realistic movie. We want to really want Okay,
don't have to. That's who it's escapist. It's showing the
dire straits the desperate nature of this man that it
was so breath that this is what happened. D J.

(06:11):
There is no money for nothing in those dire straits. J.
Marshall with a hundred one yards rushing and a hundred
eight hundred one yards passing one and three touchdowns on
the ground for Georgia Tech. Again, they are driving. They
are up by seven, five thirty nine to go in
the fourth quarter. We'll keep you updated here again. So

(06:33):
make it seventy two rushing attempts for Georgia Tech and
seven passes. Meanwhile, well, the story of today is the
story of earlier today, the story of last night, the
story of the football season. So far, Rosen just might
do this that the tanny fakes a spike. He now
throws to the end zone, twisting catch loud seconds to that.

(07:04):
That was good. That was fast. U c l A
Radio network, Josh Lewin on the call, And I'll just
tell you this, my carmon that u c l A
come back a day ago. You talk about a guy
who has completely flipped the script coming into the college
football season. It was all right. The top three quarterbacks

(07:25):
are Donald Josh Allen, and if he bounces back it's
Josh Rosen, Right. It was always an if, but he
was always in the conversation. In one day, he has
vaulted to the top of the quarterback picking order. Now
I get it's one week and we're gonna look at
the quarterbacks like Heisman voting which one is at the top,
because it's a great, very strong quarterback class this year. Sure,

(07:45):
I mean, you don't even mention Lamar Jackson, right, I
mean it was a big story that went on early
last week talking about race and getting into that forgetting
the fact that he lost three games down the stretch,
so he won the Heisman because he built such a
big lead mcdominant for two months, but nearly five hundred
yards against Produce. So he's he's in that discussion. But
we we talked about quarterbacks. That's gonna be the dominant,

(08:08):
dominant story of this NFL and n C double a
season of let's put jerseys on each one of those
guys and and that, and that's why it's gonna be fun.
It's gonna be like an extra thing we kicked keep
track of. In addition to the highs of the marine rankings,
who's the number one after this week? It'll be quarterbacks.
And in one week where Donald was there and Alan

(08:28):
was mad, Josh Rosen was bad and U c. L
a Was bad. But for a guy who came into
the season as someone who the questions are about character,
what's he made up of and not about his talent
because the guy you watch him play and he has
the the exact same skill set of Carson Palmer, like
a younger Carson Palm where Carson Palmer could actually run

(08:50):
before you know the bad knee injuries. That's the kind
of skill set he has, that's kind of strong Army has.
But it was always what what makes up the rest
of him? He had a lot of problems immature off
the field. He's coming off a summer in which he
gave a very uh pointed statement that got ripped to
shreds about paying players in college football, and it was
a very It was very much up in the air

(09:11):
for Rosen for this season. In one game where he
got his ass beat the entire first three quarters, he
was getting hit and hit and hit, and I thought
for sure when he got sacked the end of the
second quarter and kind of limped off the field, I said,
he's not coming out for the second half because U. C. L.
A Is getting boat raced and that's it. We're not
gonna see him when that's it. But he comes out,

(09:33):
gets his ass beat for the third quarter and then
keeps flinging it, keeps flinging it, and suddenly everything breaks
and he's able to go up and down the field.
Got a couple of breaks on a couple of passes.
One touchdown went through a defensive players hands, but gets
them all the way down. Throws are great. The fake
spike pass was was only where his receiver could get it.
Still questioning how that wasn't at least one well because

(09:54):
it was such a great play. He really ruined. You
saw the replays he had. It came down with we're moving,
the ball is still moving, and dude, come on, Josh
Rosse has gotta get to the Jets, right, I gotta
get I just had to pause you for the second
because we had long reviews on everything else and then
that one was it was such a great play. We

(10:18):
had an eight minute review for the fourth down play
that didn't get a first down for a and M come.
What was interesting out of that though, was what I
saw it live. I wasn't looking at his butt. I
was watching where the ball and the elbow were, and
his his elbow was on top of a leg, So
calling it down there, it's like, well, no, that's not it.
But then obviously, you know, posterior, it was down before
the ball got anywhere near the line, but at least

(10:40):
warranted review, as did this touchdown, which got a you know,
cursory Yeah, okay, but now he has completely flipped that.
And now he's someone who led his team and came
back and didn't quit and stayed in it after it
was tough and all the off everything that dogged him
for his entire career. He's a guy that had the

(11:02):
hot tub in his room as a freshman, and you know,
the entire existence he's had at u C. L A
and Mora has kind of loved him but at arm's
length and done some tough love with him. All the
questions they're now gone after one game. Sometimes you can
take one game and it completely flips how people perceive you.
Doesn't help that it was really, you know, the only game. Yeah,

(11:25):
we had West Virginia Virginia Tech last night, but the
thrilling end of that was everybody was watching. It helps
that that's the only story. And people talk about this
because everybody saw it, But that changes the perception of
Josh Rosen. It's so rare for a team to be
and for a player to be able to do that
in one game, and he did it. I mean, right now,
if you if you had the draft tomorrow, you have
to take Josh Rosen. Now, great, it's gonna change every week,

(11:47):
all of a million does. But that's how we do it.
That's how it is. Who was the best quarterback after
Week one? Who's the guy we're talking about. We're talking
about Josh Rose. As we sit here in the Geico studios.
We watched these games and you look for those big
moments and those player defining, career defining, team defining kind
of moments and the fact that you get one in
week one of such this epic proportion, and and I

(12:08):
know they kept talking about the Northwestern Michigan State game
from over a decade ago and and the grandiose come
back that occurred there. So when we look at this game,
you know, you're you're looking at Josh Rose and all
those things you mentioned. If I had a nickel for
every time I saw that hot tub picture, on my
timeline over a three hour period, I'd be a very
wealthy man. Might have hit like a mini lottery that way.

(12:31):
But you saw the throws. You saw that he can
make every throw because he had to. Sure. If defensive
backs knew how to catch, they'd be wide receivers. It's
the old rule of thumber. Remember as you get into
college football, in particular, if they could catch, they'd be
on the other side of the ball. So when you
saw balls sailing through guys hands, or tip balls or
things that should have been easy interceptions that weren't, just

(12:53):
remember that they can't catch. That's why they're on that
side of the ball. So when we look at Josh
Rosen for Jim Mora, also just a massive sigh of relief,
a guy who based on that first three quarters effort,
Look at those columns were written and now green and

(13:13):
white saves them, and it all becomes about Texas A
and m on the other side, I know, I know
we'll do a mock up. We'll make sure we do
a mock up. Not about you, Tim. This is why
I'm excited because any time a quarterback plays well Saturday,
I can celebrate it because he could be playing for
us next year. I get so excited. You're gonna be
daydreaming on you thinking about you know, this guy was

(13:35):
playing frozen for about fold for Donald, Frozen for Rosen.
That's what we're doing now, all right, let's getting going. Meanwhile,
you want to talk about a little bit of breaking
news coming through our studio. We had not one, not two,
not three, but four home runs tonight from Martina. It's

(13:57):
a fly ball and a deep left center faiel. Have
the Diamondbacks shoot on top two to nothing? Three quarters
of the way up the left center field bleachers is
fifteen for the Diamondbacks. Have they moved on top of
the Dodgers to nothing? Here? On the fourth inning? Diamond
Backs Radio Network on the call. J D. Martinez four
home runs for the Diamondbacks tonight, six rb I night.

(14:21):
The diamond Backs crushed the Dodgers thirteen to nothing. For
the Dodgers, playoff hopes are in Champal. They crushed the
Dodgers thirteen nothing again. J D. Martinez four home runs
tonight for the Diamondbacks in the victory. Will have more
on that coming up. We're gonna have John Paul Morossi
joining us in about fifteen minutes. Martinez the eighteenth player

(14:43):
to at four home runs in the game, the first
in diamond Backs history. We got more NFL on the way.
We've got some quarterback news, Tim, Tim, Tim, not you Tim?
Or is it no? But it's not Tim? But is
it it's not? It's not Tim. It's he's free to
go play football. But is it no, No, it's not.
It's not. It's not. I promptly, but is it no,

(15:04):
it's not. That's next on Fox Fox Sports Radio, The
Jason Smith Show, Jason Mike coming live from the Geico Studios.
Real in the years here on Fox Sports Radio. How
many by the way, oh, by the way, rest in peace,
the co founder of Steve Dan passing away over the weekend?
How many TV? How many radio stations did you know

(15:27):
growing up that did a reel? And in the years
show on the weekends where it was we looked back
at the music yesterday when music was really good back
in the sixties. And Walter Becker and Donald Fagan get
any kind of credit for that? Did they get any
money and residuals because that was being ripped off Chevy
Chase get any I don't think he did probably not.
I why don't you ask him now, would you rather

(15:49):
have your career be in the drummer and Steelee Dan
for the last forty years, which would have said, it's good,
get the fine question. If I ever see him, I
will ask him that there's no question about it. Fox
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show. Well we are headed
to overtime between and Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech decided to

(16:10):
start throwing the football at the end of the game
because well, that's how they had to get down the field. Uh.
They had run the football seventy seven times for four
eight five yards in this game, but faced with a
couple of minutes left, they threw the football. They got
down the field, but the game winning field goal was blocked,
so Tennessee and Georgia Tech go into overtime again. Georgia

(16:32):
Tech seventy seven rushing plays, ten past plays. Seventy seven
rushing plays, ten past plays, you know what the fourth
quarter and in that ratio absolutely made sense based on
the score of the game. I mean, Georgie Georgia Tech
has run twenty five more plays in Tennessee at in

(16:54):
this game, but they are tied, going to overtime. Meanwhile,
the story of the n in the last ten minutes.
J D. Martinez on the Diamondbacks. It's not one, not two,
not three, but four home runs as the Diamondbacks absolutely
route the Dodgers thirteen to nothing. It is over for

(17:17):
the Dodgers. They are finished. Hot take, Oh, hot take,
hot take, the dumpster fire hot takes. It's such a
hot take. Oh my god, Dodgers are finished. I almost
have to set your foot on fire, or I do

(17:37):
have a great hot take story for you coming up,
or make you look like the little anger guy out
of Inside Out. Uh. Here's how home run number four
sounded for j. D. Martine. I want to Martinez another drive.
He's four homers on the ball game for j. D. Martinez.
He's trying a Major A record and j D. Martine
is a part of history tonight here at Dodgers City

(18:00):
with a Diamondbacks radio network. Again, eight teams player in
MLB history to have four home runs in a game.
And did you know, Mike Carmen that Mark Witten almost
hit four home runs in the game two nights in
a row. The legend of Mark Witten? Did did did

(18:20):
you know that? Did you know that I almost you
did not know that. Well, here's the deal. Here's how
that almost happened. And it's a it's a very it's
a very big, very big deal. Uh. But going all
the way back to reeling in the years, come on,

(18:40):
that's got one of the best lines. You've been telling
me and genius since you were seventeen and all the
years I've known you, I still don't know what you mean.
And I can throw that out at a lot of
people i've met along. Look, you're asking me to write
about that now, you're absolute. So So Mark Witten hits
four home uns in a game in for the Cardinals. Okay,

(19:04):
here's how he almost hit four home runs in the game.
Two nights in a row and he hit three and
he had four home runs. Right, So obviously that's the
big story of the night. I'm working as a production
assistant ESPN. Also working at ESPN is my wife, and
she's an engineer and she's on the technical side of things.
Sounds like a dangerous proposition. And here's yeah, and here

(19:26):
here's how he he almost hit four home runs. Tell
me something. Of all the shows they run a tease
on TV, you know, coming up on Sports Center, coming
up on Fox, whatever it is, you know, blah blah blah.
I can tell you everything that's coming up in the show.
So my wife was working on Baseball Tonight and she
worked in the tape room. And this is back when
they would bring in tapes. You had to play tapes
to play the highlights off. So mark witness four hor months.

(19:50):
That's the only thing in the teas. It was amazing.
Obviously there's a bunch of other stuff. There was a
squirrel that ran on the field and all this guy.
Wait a minute, was there a lot of footage of
Bob that got chose as the guy that had been
the last they hit four home runs? That would have
been really kind of fun if there was a bunch
of Bob don't look up Bob Horner on your own
Google machine, kids whit and hit his witt and hit

(20:11):
his fourth home as four home runs and that's how
it ran that night, right, Everything we covered it was great.
So the next night, my wife is working in the
tape room for Baseball Tonight, and so they queue up
the t s to the same part on on They
recorded over the same part of tape every night, and
she was like, why do we do that? We just
we just ruined that part of the tape. I'm gonna
go forward like five minutes and record the teas for

(20:34):
the night five minutes ahead on a fresh part of
the tape. Right, that makes sense? Right? Why do we
recorded it, you know, at at the same place every
single night, you know, let's record it at a different
spot so I know, I know. So what happens is
they record the ts in, they rolled in. Okay, it's
all set to go. She rolls into five minute mark.
She's got a cute up. It's all set to go.

(20:54):
There five minutes before the show, She's like, all right, great.
The other person the tape from where there comes in.
She's yeah, I have to go to the bad through.
I'll be right back. She goes to the bathroom, comes back,
They get ready, They roll the teas now and I'm
watching in the in the highlights room at work, and
I go and then big night for Mark Witten, four
home runs. I'm going Mark Whitten did four home runs again?

(21:15):
Oh no, oh no, this is last night's tease. When
she went to the back, the guy cued it up
to where it was supposed to be. So the same
teeth ran that's why you record over with more home runs,
the same squirrel running on the field. I was like,
oh my god. I walked in. I walked into the
tape and I was like what because we were just

(21:35):
started dating at that point, and I'm like, what do
I say? That's like the worst mistake ever. You know
what happened? She was just don't talk to you. I'll
talk to you after the show and said, okay, okay,
because I have no authority in there. I'm just in
there going, hey, what happened? What happened? What happened. I
have no authority, We're just asking what happen. Mark Whitten
almost did four home runs in the game, two nights
in a row. In fact, there's some people that saw
it and thought, I wonder if he did the most

(21:57):
magical thing, which is wait, which is bigger four home
runs two nights in rown or VanderMeer. Let's go uh
so the guys with a four home runs in the
game since Mark Witnen, We'll go back. Bob Horner was
the guy that did it before Mark. He was six.
Mark Witten Mike Cameron when he was with the Mariners

(22:19):
in two thousand two. Later, that month, Shawn Green. That
was his twenty total bases game with the Dodgers, Carlos
Delgado the next year with the Blue Jays, Josh Hamilton
nine years later in two thousand and twelve, four for
the Rangers. Then this year, five years later, Scooter Jannette
had four for the Reds and now j D. Martinez four.

(22:40):
How a bunch of the Diamondbacks thirteen to nothing, the
win for Arizona. The Dodgers are done. Hot take, hot take,
They're done. They certainly don't want Sierra much. Does anybody
wants say that those won't be the starters? Doesn't matter. Uh,
But what's interesting as you go down that entire list
and you go, hey, the last one on June six

(23:02):
of this year, Scooter Jeannette, Which one of these does
not belong? Every one of these other guys go back
to Mike Schmidt, Willie Mays, Bob Horner, Mark Witten, all
of these guys power hitters. He's Mike Cameron was a
thirty thirty potential guy for a while and then while
he was home runs and a lot of strikeouts because
he never quite adjusted. But home run hitter Hamilton and

(23:24):
Delgada and then you got Scooter Janette in the middle right,
and all these guys career home runs four hundred, seventy three,
fifty to seventy to twenty fifty six sixty Scooter Jennette,
and he's just getting warmed up right now. Twitter At,
how about a fresca? Twitter At, how about a fresca?
The Jason Smith Show Jason and my bass friend Mike

(23:46):
Harmon live from the Geik Studios in one minute. John
Paul Morossi, MLB Insider will stop, Bible Talk, j D Martinez,
the Dodgers struggling, and more. But first let's check in
with what is trending. The sager Bob Horner with those
four homer is in a loss in Atlanta back in
nineteen six. That is hard to do, ladies and gentle
I look at you reigning on Bob Horner's break, always

(24:07):
reminding him that he lost that game and hair and
it is Yeah, he did have good hair. That is amazing.
The list when you see it's Willie Mays and Luke
Garrick and Scooter Janette. Ye, don't forget that the Mike
schmidgame at Wrigley Field, he had the fourth homer as
the game winner in the tenth of an eighteen to
sixteen victory at that doesn't count regulations. It's gonna be

(24:29):
a regulation. He shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame, right. J. D.
Martinez Julio Daniel Martinez born in Miami, had quite the night.
This is guy who had thirty eight homers for the
Tigers a couple of years ago. He's gonna be a
free agent in the off season, so the Tigers dealt
him to Arizona in July. He struck out in his
first at bat tonight and proceeded to hit four homers

(24:51):
in the thirteen nothing win over l A. That's eleven
straight victories for Arizona. Robbie Ray had a perfect game
through the first five got the win seven two thirds innings,
fourteen strikeouts, no walks for him, and Cleveland won its
twelve straight game five three at the White Sox. Today
losses for the Cubs in Milwaukee. Boston lost tonight at

(25:11):
home ten four to Toronto as the Blue Jays hit
four homers. Justin Smoke with his thirty seven and the
Yankees one today seven four at Baltimore. So the Yanks,
who won three in a row, or only two and
a half games back in the Red Sox for first
in the Al East. With True Car, you can find

(25:34):
in college football, Georgia Tech scored on its drive It's
up in Atlanta thirty eight over Tennessee, which now has
the ball second and goal on its drive in overtime.
Georgia Tech somehow could not put this game away in regulation,
despite the fact they have over eighty carries for over
five hundred yards rushing and the quarterback alone has four

(25:54):
rushing touchdowns. Tonight, Justin Thomas was the golf winner at
Boston by three strokes over George and speech Roger Federer
one his fourth round match at the US Open, and
Rafael Nadal also one. Back to you. Thank you, Mr
de Sager, appreciate that my friend. Yes, right now Georgia
Tech with the lead over Tennessee. But as he said,
Tennessee on the doorstep. Official review coming up right now

(26:17):
of the previous play will keep you updated on this.
But the story of the night right now j. D.
Martinez four home runs for the Arizona Diamondbacks, joining us
now on the hotline, a man who took time away
from tweeting about baseball and very important things to make
sure we had to know just how good you two

(26:41):
was in concerts. We got the official review from Fox
Sports one MLB network insider John Paul Morossi. If you
want to know how good you two was, go on
John Paul's timeline. He'll tell you what's up, buddy, I'm
outstanding a well done on. First of all, I thought no,
but he actually reads my tweets, so that it actually

(27:02):
means a lot to me that you guys read my
tweet about the concert last night, which was sensational by
the way. And uh, and so the tweet and the
assertion that I made, I am actually pleased at the
relatively low amount of of sort of maybe feedback that

(27:23):
I've gotten in any sort of negative way from my
fandom from you two. From the standpoint of saying, as
I asserted that I believe that taken all the consideration,
I was born in two so that this covers my lifetime,
but that in my lifetime there has not been any
more consistently brilliant and relevant and impactful rock band on
the planet the YouTube. So I tweeted that effectively last night,

(27:47):
and surprisingly few people are saying, Morosa, you're wrong for
x N y Z either, Like there are people. It
seems to me, guys that the the the lack of
the lack of victoryol tells me that I'm actually right.
So apparently my my you two takes as a fan
are more accurate than my professional takes on baseball, which

(28:10):
are supposed to be really well reasoned and thoughtful. Uh so,
maybe maybe I should actually change careers. You'll have to
work on your pop culture hot take. Nonser, no, no,
no here, no, I get it now. You listen to
Top forty Countdown on Sunday going, and before we get
to number one, let's bring in John Paul Morossi, who
is as accurate as anybody in talking about music, John Paul,

(28:31):
and then you give, you know, you give a big
take on music, and then something very inside baseball, like
you know, by the way, don't forget Ryan, you know,
you don't forget J D. Martinez. Four home runs the
other night could buy everybody. And that's how you kind
of slip in there and say, uh, maybe I'm saying
Larry Mullen Jr. Was an outstanding soccer player back in
his in his childhood there and doublement there may be

(28:53):
some kind of an angle there to take on that
can bring sports together. But but yes, as you point out,
as as great as Bono was last night, and he
was phenomenal, I think the the rest uh in the
tour was great for him. So we came back last
day was sensational and just as great tonight was Jadie Martinez, who,
of course, as we see the Diamondbacks continuing to to

(29:17):
perpetuate his winning streak. Here we should point out now
the Dodgers have fallen back to I believe, only the
second best winning percentage for a Dodger franchise in the
modern era, so that that should be a useful parenthetical
to all those Dodger fans deeply concerned. Right now. They
are still pretty great, although on this night, not quite

(29:38):
as great as Jadie Martinez, who, by the way, I
think he's gonna have himself a very nice pay day
this wintertime as a free agent. Now I'll give you
a hot take, John Paul, Dodgers are done. Hot take
take they're well, I if I, if I may, I'll
maybe interject here briefly and say this that that on
that point fair to point out that the Dodgers, Uh,

(30:02):
if they obviously they're gonna they'll finish with the best
record in the National League. We know that because they
already if they lost every single game for the balance
of the season, they would still have more wins than
five teams that made the playoffs last year. Again just
pointing it out, but they would potentially face in the
first round of the playoffs. The eras on the Diamondbacks,
the very team that really really thumped them tonight at

(30:25):
Dodger Stadium, and the way that it all went down.
You've got j D. Martinez starting against the left handed
pitcher for the Dodgers and Rich Hill, and I think
it's very instructive to point out the Diamondbacks have gotten
so much better against lefty pitching since j D showed up,
and that would make them I'm not going to say

(30:46):
a favorite if they played the Dodgers in the first round,
because that would not be the case, but they would
be I I agree with you, they would be a
dangerous opponent because of how much better they have gotten
against Lefty pitching. Box Sports Radio Jason Smith coming to
you from the Geico Studios on the hotline with us
MLB Network, Fox Sports Zone John Paul Morossy. Follow him

(31:07):
on Twitter at John Morossy j O N M O
R O s I. You can tell him all about
your favorite Larry Mullen Junior story from his touring years
and any background knowledge you wish you'd pass on. We
can get that thread going in our own fanzines. JP.
What do you think Clayton story for you from nine?

(31:29):
He's overrated mull Jr. And actually I won't tell you
this now now again, not to divert too far here,
but someone actually responded to my tweet and said the
Edge is overrated. That is not possible. How could anybody
actually say that that that that is not even a
qualified tape, because that that is not a true statement

(31:53):
in this dimension or any other. Those words have never
been accurate in succession about anything the Edge does, at
least in my mind. So I would say that again,
I am totally biased on this account. I am completely biased.
I have advocated any objectivity. I'm just telling you the
Edge is very properly rated is quite possibly again in

(32:15):
my lifetime, maybe one of the great rock broll guitars
of all time. So really quickly, Gen Carlos Stanton is
now twenty home runs away from the real homes. More
overrated than the Edge, but okay, things that are not
overrated the Edge and John Carlos stands power and also
on this night J D. Martinez's power, and I didn't

(32:38):
point out on John Carlo Ston He's got fifty two
home runs as you point out, so he is ten shy,
I would say, of of setting what I would believe
to be the authentic record, but twenty can he get
twenty plus to meet Barry Bonds? Probably not, but I
do think certainly at this point in time a very
strong strong bet to s pass Mr Merris there from

(33:01):
nine six one Holm on Twitter at John MORROSSI, that
is that John MORROSSI and I actually to the course
of the segment, not only did I did I avail
myself to me a completely uh completely devoted YouTube fan,
but I have now potentially after years of doing this

(33:22):
program with you, change my entrance music, my worldcome music
is now different. You walk out, your walk up music
is different. But you have to post a picture of
yourself for your Twitter avatar of you and Bono the
fly glasses. I was gonna say for Halloween he has
to go as Mefisco. Oh man. I mean, listen, guys,

(33:45):
I do have some degree of rationality about me when
it comes to baseball, but you too, I'm a fan.
Well what can I say? It's uh, it's I could.
I could detail it, but it actually would probably discredit
me further, so I'll just leave it right there. You
got it, Buddy, happen on air, goes John Palmer ROSSI.
Larry Mullen Jr. Rules the world. I had a buddy

(34:08):
in high school that once he had blonde hair and
he and he, you know, just had blonde hair, short
blonde hair. And he went in to get a haircut
and he brought in a picture of of Larry Mullen Jr.
Out of like a Rolling Stone magazine? Said can you
make me look like this guy? You wanted? Mull So
you just got off the pixel bunny and say maybe
you look like a Well did you open the drawer

(34:29):
and give him some glasses? No, you are Larry Mullen.
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show, Quick Update College football.
Tennessee now with the lead over Georgia Tech, despite the
fact Georgia Tech has a hundred and seventy five rushing
contempts tonight, Uh, they are down thirty five, but Georgia
Tech with the football facing a third down down in

(34:51):
overtime again forty two thirty five. Tennessee with the lead
coming up next. We'll keep you updated on this game
that's taking football all the way back to nineteen thirty
five even Also more big news from the NFL Jason
Smith Show, Fox Sports Radio, Tim damp Timp not you
not yet, Fox, Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show,

(35:12):
Jason Mike Carmen. Great news, great news. You want to
save some money, go to Geico dot com and in
fifteen minutes you could say fifteen per cent or more
on car insurance. Well, it is a final Tennessee. Despite
the fact Georgia Tech in this game tonight ran the

(35:33):
ball eighty six times for five hundred and thirty five yards.
Think about that for a second, eighty six rushes for
five hundred and thirty five yards and six touchdowns. Tennessee
wins two to forty one. Tennessee gets the first possession

(35:56):
in double overtime, they get a touchdown. Georgia Tech comes back,
you score a touchdown, they go for two. Their two
point conversion play doesn't make it. I give doesn't make
any sense. I well, I give the rambling reck some
points for creativity. When it was seeing the play wasn't
getting into the end zona they threw a pass and
the guy got tackled short of the goal line. So

(36:16):
that why I've never you can say, I've never seen
a play quite like that before. But Georgia Tech, despite
the fact eighties six carries for five thirty five yards,
they lose. It's a lot of statue sheet filling. And
if you played daily fantasy, weekly college football fantasy, you've
got some numbers. However, when we look at this, you

(36:38):
you went to the well and you're going for two.
I I like the the bravado of saying, hey, we've
we've had been able to run down your throat the
entire game, so we're gonna do it here and we're
going to win field. We're gonna take the ball and
we're gonna score kind of mentality. But it seems to me,
unless you just have zero confidence that your kickers coming

(36:59):
out and making that and he'd already missed two field goals,
including the potential game winner and the final minute of regulation,
that you'd go for two instead of continuing play, and
I don't get it. Oh look, I look, it's obvious.
It's I will say this. I like guts. I like guts,
and I like when teams decide, you know what, we're

(37:19):
gonna end this game right now. Because look, as much
as they were scoring, they were also not stopping Tennessee.
It's not like it's not like Tennessee as well. No,
Tennessee was getting up and down the field. They had
scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, they had scored
two and overtime. I like when coaches realize, I can't
leave it to my defense. We have to try to
end this game right now. So I'm gonna go for

(37:39):
two right now and try to end it. So I
like the guts. It's always hard for me to sit
here and go well because look, if it works, if
he gets another half yard, then the game is over.
And it's a great call and it's gutsy. But when
you see it, look you have to read your defense
and you know, okay, the last four possessions are four touchdowns.
I don't think our defense is gonna do anything. We
have to go. We have to try to win this

(38:00):
game right now. Option short side of the field slow
to get rid of the ball. So it was not
the excellence of the execution is not gonna I'm not
gonna work the ball six times from five and thirty yards?
How do you think that's not gonna work? Not gonna
stuff us. What we need is three guys jump. They're

(38:21):
gonna stuff us. Oh no, no, Because then there was
an argument of whether, as we watched it here in
the Geico studio, whether the ball actually got to the
running back on the pitch, and then obviously he was
taken down short of the goal line, so it ended
up not mattering. But I defy you. I mean, we'd
have to go back in the record books and send
our crack research staff Steve to look and find what

(38:43):
game in college football history, in recent college football history,
did you have ten rushing touchdowns? He go back to
that great Army, not to Dame game of it was
Mr Inside Doc Planchard, and miss the outside Ernie Davis,
and not Ernie Davis who was a uh Mr Inside
was Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis, Glen Davis, not not

(39:05):
not the Astros, Glenn Davis, t J, Glen Davis, Ernie Davis.
Of course, yes, from my orange. But I was trying
to do a whole funny thing. I had to start
with Ernie Davis. I mean I could. I couldn't get
away with that. That's okay, Davis, little poetic and creative
license along the way. Marshall to fifty six and five touchdowns,

(39:26):
forty six rushing attempts for Tennessee. John Kelly nineteen carries four.
Oh Man, John Kelly not only does he run the
White House t J, he also runs for four touchdowns.
You got something special delivery when he got Most people,
of course, don't run eighty six plays in a game,
much less eighty six rushes. The Oregon game this past

(39:48):
weekend was nine rushing touchdowns, which was the stadium record
for Rutton State. Yeah, and it'll it'll take the Jets
four games to get to eighty six place in the
game this season. So there's that appreciated Steve oh Or
from him. I'm sure he will have phenomenal stuff coming
out of this game. Again, eight six, five thirty six
touchdowns in Georgia loses. They're not gonna stop us on

(40:09):
the option. Come on, oh no, I'm gonna walk this
in coming to next more and the Biggest Stories to night,
This and a four home run Night for a diamondback Fox,
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show Boy, Happy Labor
Day Night. You thought tonight was gonna be one of
those nights where it was, well, Jameson is gonna talk
about Josh Rosen going to the Jets, And they mentioned

(40:31):
Josh Rosen going to the Jets and Josh Rosen being
a Jet and that would be the show. But oh no,
oh no, we have much bigger fish to front. Well,
I mean, hey, fish fry. Yeah, I used to work
at a fish fry. Josh wrote Friday Nights for a
couple of years. Really yeah, I made some great friends,

(40:53):
made a lot of fish, made a lot of fish
that your hand. Chicken, it would come in the giant box.
How would you sore chicken unless chicken, chicken, chicken, rooster, chicken, chicken, chicken. Unfortunately,
it's really cold and now that bone just pierced my skin.
It hurts like hell. And then chicken leg, chicken chicken

(41:18):
part muskrat Muskrat. Hey, we got that muskrat dinner. You
guys want it. I was in Chicago, Okaynada. Where are
you putting me in terms of graphical No no, no, no, no, no, no,
no no, because my wife is from Michigan, from everywhere.
Here's another really rough story involving my wife from tonight.

(41:39):
Oh boys, are you coming home with me? Is that
where this is added? She worked as Now he's gonna
clip that off and yeah, no, this is what's my
invitation to America? Are you coming home with me? One
of the one of the first times I've ever met
her and gone gone back to back home with her
in Detroit. She took me on a tour of certain things.
She's alway, here's I worked here in high school. And

(42:01):
it was a restaurant that also did catering. And on
the back side there was a big sign. And this
is a small town outside outside of Detroit, and it's
a small sign outside that said Tuesday Muskrat Dinners. And
I said, uh what, She goes, Oh, yeah, that signs
been there for a long time. I said, so, Muskrat
Dinners is a real thing. I mean, this is that

(42:25):
you could have walked off with this is no, no, no,
it's it's one of those uh signer no no, no,
you can't. It's like one of those things where the
bolts are put in and it's in the brick forever.
You're not even after if there's a nuclear war, it's
not coming out. But I said, but yeah, Tuesday muskrat
still Tuesday said, While the sign still says Tuesday, it's
but up for a long time, they would serve muskrat dinners.

(42:45):
What does muskrat taste like? I don't know. Let's ask
Kathain and Taniel. They did muskrat love. No, it's probably
not tastes like I don't think. Then they would just
have horse. You know how where you have to go
to get muskrat? Well, I don't know. The first result
when I googled it was from March of Muskrat. It

(43:08):
doesn't taste like chicken. I mean, I get how I
thing you need to know about the Salem Counties Annual
muskrat Dinner. A lot of poultry and food is raised
on farms and everything, but something you gotta go out
and get. I mean, is there anybody breeding muskrats? It's like,
get those muskrat dinners, and I hear muskrats, I think
of like a you know, like, uh, the the Caprio movie,

(43:30):
the one with the bear. What you don't keep the
retinal people are walking around like, you know, well one
has a bear in it. You just want to say bear.
When people are there's there's you know, there's skins of
all kinds of stuff. You got muskrat on here got muskrat.
It's like what a what a hot hot dog vendor
of the seventeen hours must have been, like muskrat, muskrat mouse,

(43:54):
I got mice, I got mice, muskrat. I'm not reading
a story in New Jersey dot Com NJ dot Com
from February of last year talking about keeping it tradition alive,
about well muskrats, muskrat hundred forty licensed trappers still in
the state. How about that muskrat dipping dots? Muskrat dipping dots.

(44:19):
I got them both. What do you want? Muskrat dipping dots,
cookies and cream and the smallest muskrat okay, muskrat and
nacho And then they're throwing you my did you eat
out of the big helmet? Look at these muskrat nacho? Yeah,
it's Labor Day night. Everybody welcome into the show. So
there are two big stories tonight as as we've been

(44:42):
saying and not not, the least of which now is
Muskrat Dinners that I don't know if you have to
shoot the muskrat that was a muscat? A musket? Yeah,
a muscat? A must you mean a musket? A muslusk?
Not a musket? No musket, It's just a musket. It's

(45:04):
a it's a musket, weep what they used to fight
like in but you want to just wanted me to
do a stewy impression. Who the British are coming? You
got a musket? No, I don't want a muskrat. No,
no said musket, No no, no spades fire with the

(45:24):
muskets going, it takes over the Ace of Spades. I'm
going into the Muskrat Club tonight. What are you gonna get?
What do you think? He? So go fund yourself, look,
take care of what you need to do and helping
out Texas, okay, and then as we recover, we will

(45:45):
then have the Muscat Muskrat Club will be the next
fundraising effort that we do here eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine six six three
six nine, or on twitter at how about a fresco?
That twitter at, how about a fresca? So again, two
big stories tonight, not involving muskrats, which you know we've

(46:08):
been talking about it now and I don't know how
he got on. I'll tell you what, almost four years
on the show that sound we've gotten muskrat muskrat? Yeah yeah,
And how have you not found captain and tinnial muskrat
love yet, Alex Heitcher, I mean, really, I'm still stuck
on the musket must between and Larry Mullen Jr. Must
mean we've really it's the musket, not the musket, No,

(46:29):
t J. How about a three musket tears candy bar
so you don't turn into Betty White? Dj uh. Major
League Baseball tonight. We'll start with that first because it
was a record setting night. There were seventeen players in
MLB history, it had four home runs in the game.
Coming into tonight, well you gotta make that eight team.

(46:51):
I want to is another drive and he's done four
homers on the ball game for j D. Martinez. He's
turning a major league record and j D. Martin is
a part of history tonight here at Dodgers City with
a four homer ball game. So there it is, Diamondbacks
Radio Network, a thirteen nothing whitewashing of the overrated Dodgers,

(47:12):
and we're done. I take, I take, I Technic four
broadcast in Los Angeles area. But I want to be careful.
Uh no, you want you want to you wanna have
a great hot take story involving the Dodgers. Can I
tell you what real quick before you get into J D. Martinez?
So where everybody? Again? You know, I always say I
am not worried about the next generation of broadcasters, you know,

(47:35):
in in coming up. I'm not worried because so I've
been waiting for, you know, people in their twenties and
thirties to come. I'm not worried that much about them
coming to take our jobs. But now I'm worried about
the generation after. I'm worried about the generation A YouTube generation,
you know. I mean, I'm worried about the kids who
were just about eight, nine, ten years old. This weekend,
we're out of town with a family with a family
friend of ours, and we were talking about what all

(47:58):
the kids want to do when they grew up and
one of the girls, one of my daughter's best friends, Morgan,
says she either wants to be a farmer or a
what if she was a farmer or a dancer? And
we said, well, you're gonna work really hard if you're
a farmer. She said, really, but I love animals, Like yeah,
but you're gonna work from the very early in the
morning until very late at night. She goes, Oh, that's

(48:21):
too hard. Then I'm just gonna do Jason's job. I said, oh,
care right, all right, you want to do mind to
everybody's laughing you, I'm gonna do jason job because you
know my job is really easy. So I said, okay,
you think it's easy to sit with harmon four hours
a night, I can't. It took me three years to
get Muskrats in the show. So I said, okay. I said, let'

(48:42):
let's see how good you do. She's all right, test me.
I said, all right, And I said to her, how
good has Cody Bellinger been for the Dodgers this year?
She goes, oh, he's not that good. And I went, oh, take,
oh my god, you'd be great on the radio. Come
on and say Bellinger is not that good? And get
you a TV show. Her dad pipes in from about
ten people, I just watched me in his thirty six

(49:04):
oh run five minutes. That's a multi year TV show
deal with year old girls said, oh, he's not that good.
Bellinger is not that good. I said, who's better? She said,
granddal JASMONDI Grandal better than Cody Bellinger. Hot take. I
like the hot take nights, talking about position scarcity, ability

(49:26):
to handle that pitching staff. Uh. So j D. Martinez
ties the major league record with four home runs in
a game. Arizona is now won eleven straight. Dodgers have
lost nine out of ten, and still there's no hope
that the Diamondbacks have of catching the Dodgers. But eighteen
home runs in his forty games with Arizona, so j D.

(49:47):
Martinez now on a run where he has hit a
home run basically in every other game. Member They got
him from Detroit in July, and this is one of
those cases where he has been fantastic and the diamond
Back have caught fire. And certain times you say to yourself,
all right, I understand the guy as a rental. But
then you get to the point where you go, I

(50:07):
can't remember our team before him, right the Mets with Cespenice.
It happens. It happens with guys. If you make trades,
you go boy. I can't remember our team before this guy,
and certainly Sespenis was the last guy to come and
have that kind of impact couple of years ago when
the Mets go from five D all the way to
the World Series. So a guy like j D Martinez,
now he's okay, we're gonna get him, We're gonna rent him.
Now it's we gotta resign him because look how good

(50:29):
we are with the guy. Look how look how look
what he means to our team. Look what he's hitting,
not just the four home run night, but he's been fantastic,
has always been a great power hitter. Now it's we
have to give him money. We used bad thing where
he's laying on a giant pile of money in his
dreams after this kind of night, are you kid? Me's
swimming in it? Great googly movie, but I mean, this

(50:51):
is the kind of thing where you're you're we joked
about needing to back up the brinks truck for Isaiah Thomas.
That was his commentary as he gets ready for free
agency after the NBA season. Same thing here for from
Martinez is like you're looking at a marketplace and the
going rate for a slugger of this caliber. When you're

(51:12):
talking about thirty to forty home run power in a
changed Major League Baseball where that's not as commonplace, You're
you're talking about being able to break the bank eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox twitter at, how about afresca?
That's twitter at how about a fresca? How about some
hot take theater from game please? Coming up next between

(51:34):
the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers. Hot take Theater. There, we
got hot take theater with the college football Game of
the night. And yes, Josh Rosen Future Jet keep it
rolling with us. We just talked about muskrats. I cringe
when I check on social media to see some of
the pictures. I'm gonna have my timeline. That's all coming
up next to Jason Smith show, Fox Sports, Radiodensondas a

(52:00):
natal Way. M hmm, wait is that that Wild Wild
West song? Wait a minute, Wait a minute, Mike Harmon,
Can I get all of these songs in one great place?
You get them on two albums, two cassettes. Oh I

(52:21):
remember when he said those These are the most popular
records in the seventies and early eighties when it was
the only place to get like to have a mixtape,
essentially big hits, and they would they would press them
on records. You're like, wow, I get a I gotta
see I gotta record with muskrat Love and you make
me feel like dancing. I'm on a dancing now. Well

(52:43):
they've repackaged it now. It's that's what I call music volume. Yeah,
I think that's what it's up to. Actually, the Jason
Smith Show, I'm Jason alongside me my best friend Mike Carmon,
and we are we're still running the commercial. That's good.
These are like if you if you want to know
what it was like like back in the eighties and

(53:04):
nine and seventies when when these commercials come on the air,
just keep watching late at night for that air supply
uh commercial where you can get like eight CDs of
love songs from the seventies, eighties and nineties hosted by
the air supply guys, And it's like fifteen minutes you
get all these songs to just keep playing snippets of
song and snippets songs, and the air supply guys are
there and they're just singing, I'm on out of love,

(53:26):
I'm so lost without you. I know you were right.
So just that's kind of what it was like, except
you got it on a record. Can we can we
do the get you a wig so you can replicate
the hair of the air supply guys, if you're gonna
do that again, because it's just this side of Bob Ross.
Uh happy. Since we we're talking about Muskrats a few

(53:49):
minutes ago, Muskrats and now a big part of the
show going forward, I do want to get to a
couple of quick to you. Gotta listen to the whole show.
If you miss it, download it right after the show
is over. The Best Off goes up iTunes, Goo Goo, Play, Stitcher,
listen to whatever you want to listen to the whole show.
Listen just to snip it of it. Whatever it is,
you can listen to it there. It goes up right
after the show is over iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher. Jason

(54:11):
Smith show raid Us, give us five stars, will Love
You Forever and Ever. Um, what's that shooting of Muskrats?
It's a musket, not muscat musket musk and t J
unlike eighties Secretary of State Edmund Muskie. That one. I

(54:33):
really thought he was just gonna throw up. It was,
you know, some kind of salute to our show. That
gunfire said it was a muscat, as Clint Eastwood once said,
play muskrat for me. Um, Jason, I asked my wife
if she wanted surf and turf with frozen fish sticks
and chicken wings. She called it scratch and sniff hashtag
muskrat frozen fish sticks. And uh, Jason, you already looked

(55:01):
like Andrew Zimmer and do you really need to be
discussing exotic meats? You know what true story, true story
can send him a T shirt or something, Send me
an address that's a winner, true story about about Andrew Zimmer.
He listens to the show, listens listen to me. When

(55:22):
I was at ESPN everything, we we sent messages to
each other on Twitter's all the time, and I had
it set up for us to do a switch, Like
one day he would do my show and I would
do his show. And I'm like, well, I'm gonna get
to be on TV and do because our foods things
with him. He was like, yeah, I'll do everything. I
was like, great, and I brought it to my bosses
of ESPN, and my one boss said, yeah, I don't

(55:42):
really know who he is, so I don't know. I'm like,
really the guy because our foods he's he's a crazy
popular Yeah, I don't know. Meanwhile, it was one of
the other shows, if it was Mike and Mike, because
I said, hey, I'll be oh yeah, let's bring him in,
Let's give him the red carpet treatment, Let's put them
all Yeah, oh, gre look out great at that are
other shows canna have people on. But it was me,
so they said, yeah, I really know you know who

(56:04):
he is. That's so upset me. That's so upset me.
I think we can pull that off here. I'm sure
we could. What's Fox? They don't care. That's good. I'm
sending Jason into the wild. What's gonna what's gonna be
on the episode? Well, he's gonna eat musk rat Oh yeah,
it would happen now and then Andrew Zimmeron would come
in here and he would do the show with you.

(56:28):
So that's the kind of show it's been. Jame Caecter
coming into wrong, come on, rong rong. I love that guy.
He was in Twin Peaks All by the Way season. Yeah. Yeah,
I was surprised to see him in Twin I was
waiting for something really funny, but he kind of you know,

(56:49):
played it straight in Twin Peaks. That's right, pretty good actor.
So we are Wow. This is one of those shows
where it's like, what happened? That's you know, it's labor Day.
Uh so j D mar Tina's four home runs for
the Diamondbacks. We talked about that a few minutes ago
of more on that coming up, including why it was
of any time someone hits four home runs in the
game is the most painful memory my wife has professionally.

(57:12):
You know, I told the story about her last hour.
I'm gonna tell again, and uh, you know, not a
big fan of it. I have to say that was
that was the drop of the night right there. But
this is something that just passes understanding when you think

(57:35):
about it. Tennessee and Georgia Tech they go to overtime tonight.
This is a game in which Georgia Tech ended up
rushing eighty six times for five thirty five yards and
six touchdowns. Eighty six for five thirty five and six.
It's like watching a game from nineteen thirty. Well, I

(57:55):
gotta I got Army over Notre Dame. Yeah, you know
I'm getting four, But yeah, I'm thinking the single wing.
As long as it doesn't rain, they're gonna score a
lot of points today. I just really like the way
he say no Tree Dame, No Tre Dame. Love po
say no to day No no. Uh So, Tennessee and
Georgia Tech go to overtime. Georgia Tech and Tennessee trade

(58:17):
touchdowns in the first overtime. Tennessee gets the ball first.
In double overtime, now you can still have the choice
to kick the extra point, go for two. Tennessee gets
a touchdown to go up seven. Georgia Tech scores very
easily one. Georgia Tech decides we're gonna go for two
instead of the extra point to go to trip belot.
And here's how the game ended. Wait for the staff.

(58:39):
It's gonna roll right, gonna tuck it up, He's not
gonna make it. Tennessee stops him. Tennessee stops him. Marshall
trying to turn it up, and the balls picked praying.
The Tennessee volunteers have held on in double overtime as
the balls Riley to win it forty to forty one.
Right now, somewhere Lane Kiffin is going of the balls

(59:00):
reality to win it. So Tennessee wins it by a
point to Kwan marshalltour carries two yards and five touchdowns,
also five out of nine for one throwing the football,
eight six rushes, ten passing attempts, and they still lost
the game. They still lost the game. Somehow they lost

(59:24):
the game. Now they had miss field goals, had a
field goal blocked late in the fourth quarter. It's it's
one of those where you look at the box and how,
how how does this happen? Well, the missfield goals, they
were driving on one possession and a great effort by
the defensive back to strip the ball from the ball carrier.
I mean, just big plays down the stretch went against them.

(59:45):
You just saw Tennessee hung in there and chunky yardage
and they made a number of big plays. Some of
the passing attempts looking like Josh Rosen a night ago,
where all right, that ball should be picked. That's an
easy no. It's somehow the guy miss times is jump,
he doesn't get to the spot. All of these things
that worked against Georgia Tech as it went down. And

(01:00:07):
then finally the excellence of execution the entire night in
terms of the option and here quarterback gets caught up,
just doesn't make the decision early enough and then can't
get enough on the ball to get to the running
back on the wing. He's gotta lose his footing so
he doesn't get even a shot. So debate over whether

(01:00:29):
it was actually fielded cleanly. Is it a forward pass
is it not? And then can't get to the to
the goal line. So all night just beautiful execution, play
after play and then here going for two showing the
guts trying to take Butch Jones down in this opportune
uh moment and it falls short. Now officially, you want

(01:00:50):
to tell you the final play, which was Marshall trying
to get to the end zone on an option play
and going down. He pitches it out right as he's
just about finished, and uh, it winds up. You know,
you saw the running backs pitched out to grant it
but got tackled at the half yard line. Officially that
was ruled an incomplete pass, So just so you know,

(01:01:11):
officially it wasn't a play that was a half yard
short or a nose of the football short. Because it
was thrown forward and it hit the ground, it was
ruled an incomplete pass, so that the play was stopped
right there. It didn't. It wasn't. Oh we got it
out and then it almost got into the end zone.
But look, I gotta be honest, if you've run eighty
six times for five thirty five, I don't care if
they know what play is coming it. We need two yards,

(01:01:33):
we need two yards. We're gonna put the ball in
the hands of the guy that's run for two thirty
and five touchdowns. That's just how it's gonna go. And
if we don't get two yards, we don't get two yards.
I'll tell you, I love the guts. The other side
of me says, I fight for third overtime. But perhaps
didn't trust the kicker again, like you said, one block,
two misses on the night, perhaps deciding this is it.

(01:01:57):
They've watched the team trade blows all night touchdowns. I mean,
because that the scoreboard is just filled with seven ups
going all the way through and certainly down the stretch.
Georgia Tech didn't have an answer for the Tennessee offense,
so perhaps just saying all right, here's our chance. We'll
end it up and and go for glory. But certainly

(01:02:18):
some big misques down the stretch left the door open
and Tennessee takes care of business in the second overtime
number twenty five. Coming into this game. Butch Jones a
guy after a disappointing season a year ago, uh with
Josh Dobbs and everything that was going on there that
that the season went south. Another guy. As we talked
and and we do so often about hot seats so early, right,

(01:02:41):
we did it with Moura, We did it certainly with
someone and that got revved up a bunch earlier today
and last evening. So you're looking at here with with
Butch Jones, people have to back off at least for
one week. You know, it's interesting you talked that about
backing off of Butch Jones and Tennessee because we have
more on this and also Florida as well, falling this

(01:03:03):
week to Michigan, but more on specifically Tennessee. That we
got that coming up in a minute, But first let's
get to Steve to Seger and find out what's trending. Hey, guys,
happy to be here on Muskrat nights, kids in it
ten and get a free Medium says you're outing. That's yes, yes,
remember Jimmy, you gotta carry that roading around the whole game.

(01:03:24):
I don't want one. Then you can go to sections fourteen,
one oh four if you're bitten by. Instead of the
cap races of the car races around the stadium, it's
muskrats running around. I looked it at The muskrat name
comes from the Algonquin me algonquin meaning it is read.
So they're that actually true? Yeah, so it says that's

(01:03:45):
the muskrat means if we have a guest lineup that
conforms to our muskrat night. I don't know we have muscats.
According to Alex Feischer, I don't know what m Jack
Hannah from the Zoo coming up the show later? Oh
how about Elon musk Elon Elon would be a pretty
good get. What does Elon Must think? What do I
see from Elon Must today? Whoever controls artificial intelligence will

(01:04:06):
win the next world? Warm? Like? What do we in
skynet TERMINA? Well, let's get to the report. If we must,
we are usually on our l a flagship station, thank
you very much. Trying to shrimp cocktail. But tonight Dodger
talk maybe going a little long. The Dodgers have lost
nine out of ten. They gave up a four homer

(01:04:28):
night at the stadium to J. D. Martinez. In fact,
he ties the major league record for most homers in
a game. He struck out his first at bat and
then homeward and four s trade at bats, all four
different Dodger pitchers, to four different parts of the park,
and he homered in the seventh, eighth, and nine thinnings,
which is apparently the first time in modern Major League
history that that has occurred. J He had one home

(01:04:52):
run for as many Musketeers as there are now back
to those Aramis and then d'Artagnan nothing. Arizona's the final.
Robbie Ray, the winning pitcher, was perfect through the first
five innings, wound up with fourteen strikeouts, no walks seven

(01:05:13):
and two thirds innings. The Dodgers have hit bottom officially
on this otherwise phenomenal season. Arizona has won eleven in
a row. Cleveland won its twelve straight game, beating the
White Sox five to three, Yankees one. Boston lost Angels
one in eleven innings. Great News there's a quick way
you could save money. Switched to Geico. Go to Geico
dot com and in fifteen minutes you could say fifteen

(01:05:33):
per cent or more on car insurance. And then there's
that college football game at the New Stadium in Atlanta tonight.
Somehow Georgia Tech lost to number twenty five Tennessee double overtime,
forty two one of ball stopping a two point try
at the end Tennessee offense, time of possession just eighteen
and a half minutes, and they scored forty two points

(01:05:54):
to win. Back to you, thanks a bunch. Mr de Steger,
appreciate that. We still this trash in things. I think
that'd be a good bit, you know, we're dumping on
top of someone who let us down. During the show,
Tennessee had the trash can on the sidelines painted orange. Yeah,
that's I think that's what we do. I think we
we come up with our own color scheme for the show. No,

(01:06:16):
you can't do that because then people are gonna pick
up trash cans, you know, just on the street and
start dumping it on people. Yeah, but you would have suit.
Nobody picks up trash here and the guy goes but
if you there'll be nothing in there, because you know
what these rogues do. They leave it on the street.
If I leave it in the hallways, they don't ever
actually pick up their trash and use a receptacle. If
I could pick up garbage a garbage can and dump

(01:06:39):
stuff on you, I pick it up every single night,
everything the garbage that garbage can. You got no shoulders
lifting a garbage can? Like, what what are you throwing
in their kettlebells? P Diddy? What? What's what's going on?
I can't but yeah, I can't crawling around. I did

(01:07:01):
my show prep enough with the muskets. It's not by
the way, you guys mentioned garbage. Did you know there's
a study out of sanitation drivers that right after Sunday
night football and Monday night football telecast the next mornings,
there's a fifty three spike in drowsy related collisions or

(01:07:23):
near accidents with sanitation drivers, like head on or like
that behind. That's like they're staying up late for games
and it's a much greater chance of accidents the next
morning with garbage truck drivers. It doesn't say anything about
taxis or anything else in the study that camps here
whoa watch out? Yeah, up late watching that game. Yeah,
can you believe that? Then it was listen to radio

(01:07:45):
and you guys are talking about muskrats Man's going to
get dinner. I'm speaking of garbage. Appreciated Mr To say verage, No, no, no, no, no, no, listen,
eat eat Coming up in ten minutes, we're gonna get
into the biggest story of this whole weekend. Tim Tims, Yes,

(01:08:06):
eight home run strikeouts. Yes, a cool haircut he finished
the year with. He's ready to play football now. He
may be playing for the Jets in a couple of weeks.
But there are big winners over this Labor Day weekend.
Certainly Tennessee is a big winner. Certainly J. D. Martinez

(01:08:26):
is a big winner. But the biggest winner we're gonna
get into coming up in about ten minutes, however, watching
you know, just think about this for college football. One
of the overwhelming topics from Week one. The two teams
played in two spotlight games. Obviously Tennessee winning this game
over Georgia Tech tonight. Tennessee opened the season Ranke and
we watched Florida get completely dismantled by Michigan. If not

(01:08:50):
for Wilton spate throwing to Florida DBS, they would have
scored three points. And Michigan wins that game thirty five three,
and it's completely dominated to Michigan's defense is fast. I
don't know how good they're gonna be, but they're fast.
They replace their playmakers on offense spaces the big question
mark though, because every mistake he makes always results in

(01:09:10):
points away from Michigan and points to the other team.
He's gonna be a roller coaster ride the entire season.
But Florida comes into that game ranks seventeen. They're gonna
drop a little bit. And now you have Tennessee. This
is where you should see the shine of the SEC
is gone because every team in the SEC is not
great and it's not so much better than everybody else.

(01:09:33):
Tennessee Florida are jag teams. Now they're your jag ranked
eighteen through college football teams. They're not perennial national title contenders.
They don't come into every season thinking we can win
the national title. The SEC is full of more jag
teams than you think. In fact, if it wasn't for
Alabama holding everybody up. Because Alabama goes to the National

(01:09:56):
title game. Every year they either win or they lose.
If it's not for them. The SEC, their results they
are very ordinary, very ordinary. What team coming in year
in and year out, can you say they're a national
title contender besides Alabama? Nobody, nobody? There are there years
when certainly l S you may have a year where

(01:10:17):
they can get up there, but l S us not
what they were. You know, they finally had to move
on a year ago Texas A and m We saw
Texas A. No Texas A and M oh and one
couldn't hold on to us finish fifty point lead at
u c l A. Well since they playoff rankings of
last year, what are they won in five? Yeah, there's
came up. The The SEC has great athletes, don't get

(01:10:39):
me wrong, but so many teams don't have the great
skill athletes even like they did five years ago. No
great skill guys are coming out of Florida anymore like
they did every single year. You know, skill guys, they
just don't. You're still getting the linebackers and the lineman,
the dbs every but you're not getting that. You're not
getting the phenomenal offensive players like you did. It's at

(01:11:00):
JAG Conference you take Alabama away, and I realize you're
saying take the best team in the conference away, but
Alabama really is what's holding up this tent pole of
how great the SEC is. Too many teams struggle to score,
or they have nights like tonight where they can't stop anybody.
I mean, Tennessee couldn't stop Georgia Tech, couldn't stop him,
couldn't stop Georgia Tech. Who is This is not the
Calvin Johnson Georgia Tech. This is not Scott Sisson Georgia Tech.

(01:11:22):
This is this is not that Georgia Tech team of
the of the early nineties that was great. This is
Georgia Tech. I mean, there are a lot of JAG teams,
but the image of the SEC is so great within
Oh yeah no, But look at all the top twenty
five teams, and well, you know, the Big ten has
about four or five top twenty five teams. You know,
the Pack twelve has got three or four times every
all the of course, the top twenty five teams are

(01:11:43):
coming from the Power five conferences. But when you're ranked
fifteen through twenty five, you're pretty much interchangeable with teams
twenty to four. It's like when we're doing tearing as
fantasy football draft season comes to an end, Right, you
got your guys in there at the op, your top
three to five. Then you have that second tier, and

(01:12:03):
then it's a muddled mess after that, depending on who
you like and which team you're starting to project out
a little bit on schedule or you know, whether you're
taking playoff schedule into account. The same thing here when
we get into these preseason top twenty five, it's just
been the SEC has been so dominant bowl games and
the national titles have just piled up through the years

(01:12:26):
that the perception, the recency bias stays there. And teams
and as we see this all the time, right, we
we say it every year in terms of preseason rankings
versus what becomes quote reality by time we get to
the end of September beginning of October, where some of
these pretenders slough off. Same thing here, you're going by reputation,

(01:12:46):
you're going by what you've historically seen. So you're looking
at a lot of these SEC teams like, alright, these
teams are all kind of the same. So you give
the nod to the one that that has to go
fight the mighty Alabama when it's all said done, so
that that's where we're at and we we see a change, right,
I mean, how many years out of the last for

(01:13:07):
as long as you've been looking at polls, did Notre
Dame have really over the top ranking because they were
no Tree Dame. I gotta say, No Tre Dame, I
gotta say, but but how many times were they preseason
top ten? Did they belong in the preseason top ten? No,
but they were no Tre Dame. So by tradition they
would get the benefit of the doubt that sometime around

(01:13:30):
October things would coalesce and suddenly they'd be on some
tremendous run. And that just doesn't happen anymore. Same thing here,
I think the people start playing the schedule game and
penciling in losses for teams that in other conferences. But
the SEC SEC is still getting propped up. They look,
you get the run of the BCS, right BCS and

(01:13:51):
on real fast BCS and on early on certainly it
was SEC heavy. You had Tennessee and you had l
s U and then you would have Alabama getting in
the mix. I mean, it was it was like that.
I mean, that was the beginning of of the of
the BC. Yes, certainly usc was there, Oklahoma was there
a couple of times. But then you got into the

(01:14:12):
heavy rotation Florida and L s U and then Florida again,
and then Alabama and then Auburn. But you gotta go back,
and it's really just been Alabama the last five years.
I mean it's been Alabama, Alabama, no SEC team. Then
it was Auburn, Alabama, Alabama. They're holding everything. Not that
you can't have great team because like I said, every

(01:14:35):
once in a while, could one SEC team have a
great year and get there. Sure, Auburn is showed they
could do with L. S U show they could do it.
But year to year out, these are their jag teams.
They're jag periphery, you know, finished anywhere from tenth fift
that's where they are. I mean that, not that they're
not that it's awful, but you can't sit here and say,
oh my god, it's all it's so much better. It's
so much better because every year going in there's only

(01:14:57):
one team you can say, all right, they're in the playoff.
I the Big ten can say hey, every year, Ohio.
But that's the big argument that flows out right. People
will say, Okay, the Big tenant is terrible, and they'll
point to Illinois and Minnesota for a couple of years,
per Due Northwestern for many years, you know, going back
plus But the fact is you'd see the cannibalism and

(01:15:21):
how tough it was to win on the road, and
but it would just be odds mediocrity. They're beating up
on each other. That happens in the SEC. It's well,
look at these hard fought games, and par part of
it is maybe potentially the way it's televised, the way
it's been pushed, and maybe that's a change. You see
more Big ten games getting that massive exposure on a

(01:15:43):
on a Saturday afternoon, or or even looking at you
know with Foxes deal with them now. Maybe maybe it
changes the profile a little bit in terms of how
they're the perception of that second half, that middle tier
and lower. Because the SEC has always gotten the benefit
of the data they're just beating up on each other.
Maybe the other conferences will get that going forward. Twitter

(01:16:03):
at how about a fresco that Jason Smith show, Jason
Mike Carmon Live and the guy goes Studios coming up next.
It's not j D. Martinez. It's not Tennessee, it's not Michigan.
Who was the biggest winner of the weekend in college
football and beyond? We'll tell you, and he's going to
the Jets box. I'm so excited, Tim, Tim, Come on, Tim, Hell,
we got lot of muskrat songs coming your way. You

(01:16:25):
gotta listen to the whole show, The Jason Smith Show,
Jason Mike Carmon live from the gey Goes Studios. Great news,
great news. You want to save some money, go to
geig dot com and in fifteen minutes you could be
saving fift cent or more on car insurance. Head out
over to iTunes, stitch your Google play you can download
the podcast the entire show. Figure out what the hell's
going on with muskrats and muskets. Meanwhile, the biggest we're

(01:16:51):
not no, no, no, okay that first, let's not a
musket a musket it's like a I mean, they fought
with muskets and like they fought the Revolutionary War with
must gets. How does that go again? It's my skat,
that's it? What about my ski? Like with wood chips?
I smoked some meat this weekend. What about putting on

(01:17:11):
that musk cologne. How does that smell? Probably smoked some meat.
You smell muskie. You know who the most Muskie player
of the week was in college football? That would be
a fantastic award. Who gets the musk player of the week.
Ah Well, at one point last night this guy had

(01:17:36):
to realize, you know, I'm gonna be playing like this
and Met Life Stadium next. Rosen just might do this
that the tanny fakes a spike. He now throws to
the end zone, twisting catch to loud seconds to go.
That Josh Rosen U c l A the game of

(01:17:59):
the weekend, the come from behind victory when at the
end of the third quarter it looked like, well, we
just gotta wait and see if Texas and m is
gonna hit fifty. Rosen throws for nearly five hundred yards
nearly three hundred in the fourth quarter and U c
l A comes back from down to win. It an

(01:18:22):
incredible night. And this is a guy. First off, I
gotta say, who has remade his ceiling and opinions of
him now in one game. Josh Rosen always had the talent.
He was always a guy that hey, in a year
of the quarterbacks, there's Darnald, and there's Josh Allen and Rosen.
If he gets his act together. The criticism of him

(01:18:44):
were how mature he is off the field. That was
everything for Rosen. What happened last night when he got
his ass beat the entire game, he never gave up.
I thought he was gonna come out of the game
at halftime when he got hurt in that run right
before they have us at all, He's gonna sit out
the second half because they're getting drilled. He came back
even the third quarter when things weren't going well, and
what happened Then it opened up and he was up

(01:19:05):
and down the field. He made some major league throws.
That fake spike throw is only where as wide receiver
could get it and nobody else. And I know we're
gonna play this game all season long, but if we do.
Heisman Trophy rankings after one week and go, okay, who's
the top when you talk about quarterback rankings, who's the
top of the quarterback list? Because such a great list
of quarterbacks after a week one, it's Josh Rosen. He

(01:19:27):
showed more than Donald, more than Allen, more than anybody else.
You go back, even Heiser Trophy winner from last year,
Lamar Jackson. Nobody showed more than Rosen, and right now
you gotta think, Okay, he's the apple of everybody's eye.
Right now, Well, let's it he and Jackson sitting on
top the leader board. Both those games broadcast on Fox
or a great weekend for the Fox crew getting to

(01:19:47):
hear Gus Johnson and Joe Clatt get after it yesterday. Uh,
that's about as good as it gets when Gus is
at the mic on a big, big time finish like that,
and certainly in the Geico studio we got to see
that a little bit with double overtime as we finished
the first week of the college football season. But Josh
Rosen battered beaten in the first half. An injury to
the A and M quarterback, uh meant some substitution change

(01:20:12):
in the offense. So they sputtered, opening the door for U. C.
L A to take advantage and like defensive backs, a
couple of opportunities down the field to make the big
play and stop momentum. They failed. They failed miserably that
nineties six yard drive. Right then you just said, okay,
that's it. They're figuring out a way to get this back.

(01:20:32):
And sure enough they had their opportunities and rose and
takes them to the big lead. And now you've got
posters frozen for rozen funny. That's what's gonna happen. I'm
gonna put them in a little else outfit. Coming up next,
four home runs and hot Take Theater, Fox, Fox Sports Radio.
Final hour of the show, Jason Mike Carmen Live from

(01:20:57):
the Geico Studios, where fifteen minutes can save you fifteen
percent and more in car insurance. More info visit Geico
dot com. We'll tell you what. Mike Carmon, we had
a lot of big things going on tonight. He just
thought it was gonna be that Labor Day night where
it's okay, I'm back from the beach, back from a barbecue.
I thought we were gonna pick all the games for

(01:21:18):
this next week, maybe all two fifty six. We're gonna
pick them all against the spread. Just right now, all right,
stop right now? Are you gonna Is this gonna be
another year where you say about a hundred and fifty
times I celebrate all two and fifty six games. Let
me know, is that gonna happen? Problem? Was that gonna happen?
It was sixteen and seven against the number and in
college this weekend. That's pretty good. You are, what sixteen

(01:21:39):
and seven, that's pretty that's a that's like big money.
That's that's a good week. Did you offer your services
to say, call me and give out your cell phone
number and I'm working on establishing the nine number. Alright, alright,
very good. Right now you can call eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox and and maybe Mike Carmen will
pick a game for you. Uh, or we'll get into
the Fantasy Football World week one. All those quarterbacks and

(01:22:02):
everybody's just so eager to put in their lineups. These,
of course will be for entertainment purposes only. Of course. Meanwhile, tonight,
well you know this weekend, Look, it wasn't just about
Josh Rosen showing everybody how great he's gonna be for
the Jets next year, because look, if you get down
thirty five points, there's worst teams to be on in

(01:22:23):
the Jets, because they'll be in that position many many times.
That's where I do my best work. We had a
big night in college football Tennessee. Georgia Tech play an
absolute thriller. We're gonna get to that coming up. In
about fifteen minutes. But I didn't think we'd walk out
of tonight being a record breaking night in Major League Baseball.
Coming into tonight, seventeen people had had four home runs

(01:22:45):
in a game, including Scooter Jannette and a guy that
Mike Harmon tries to bring up at every turn, Bob Horner.
Am I wrong? Well, you look, he was a chubby
third baseman in the seventies and early eighties. But you
try to bring up Bob Horner like trying to bring
up old Jets players. No, no, no, I bring up
I brought up Bob Horner in this context only Yeah,

(01:23:06):
good hair you bring and he looked I was in
better shape than him at my worst. You bring up
Bob Horner. Way too on. I don't bring up Bomb Horner.
I'll bring up bed Ogilvie. Maybe a little Gorman, Thomas,
what about Thomas Gorman he pitched for them. Maybe a
little Pete Vukovich, Lamar Dewey Hoyt. But seventeen players had

(01:23:29):
it four home runs in the game. Now you have
to make it. Martinez another drive and he's done for
homers in the ball game for J. D. Martinez, he's
tying a major l A record, and J. D. Martin
is a part of history tonight here at Dodgers City
with a four homer ball game. So there it is

(01:23:49):
Diamondbacks Radio Network on the call, J D. Martinez. Four
home runs for the Diamondbacks as the Diamondbacks blow out
the Dodgers by the final of thirteen to nothing. The
diamond Backs of now one straight and the Dodgers have
lost nine out of ten. No, but that's it. It's

(01:24:11):
about streets right now. Right you looking at Arizona, you're
looking at the Cleveland Indians, and on the other side,
you're looking at the Dodgers, losers of nine of their
last ten, and the opportunity for you to stand on
your soapbox and start yelling that the sky is in
fact no, no, yeah, but let's be realistic. So if
you remember we talked about this, I want to say

(01:24:32):
six weeks ago when we filled it on the morning
show on AM five seventy, which we do, which you
and I do a lot, and they had a series,
the Dodgers had a series coming up against the diamond Backs,
and it was okay, well, what are you what are
you looking for in this series? Because the Dodgers clearly
have everything. Clinch, did you say, well, you never want
a team to think they can be that they got you.
You never you. You never want a team to think that,

(01:24:53):
no matter what your record is, no matter what my
record is, that I can be You never want that.
And the Dodgers lost the first game of three game
set with Arizona, than they won the next two. Okay, fine,
but then you had the Diamondbacks now go and win
a series over the Dodgers a week ago. And yes,
none of the Dodger pitchers who would be starting in

(01:25:14):
the playoffs ostensibly pitched in that series. But still you
had Arizona starts and they had their way with him, right,
a lot of furious, ill fated comeback attempts, but they
jumped on those starters early. You saw the Dodgers lose
three out of four to San Diego over the weekend.
The only game they didn't lose, obviously, was when Clayton

(01:25:36):
Kershaw pitch. And now tonight you had J. D. Martinez
clubbing four home runs and Robbie Ray pitching a no
hitter through five innings before giving up his first hit.
What the Diamondbacks have done is now they are not
scared of the Dodgers. No matter what happens, they are
not scared of them. This is a pretty big deal.
This doesn't mean the sky is falling for the Dodgers,

(01:25:56):
but it means they have lost their air of invincibility
when it comes to Arizona, Chicago, Washington, Colorado. Look, this
is the way peaks and valleys going Major League Baseball
season the teams when they lose. It's fine for the
Dodgers to lose. Now, it happens, you go through bad,
bad stretches, But to lose the Diamondbacks like this, if

(01:26:18):
they play in the playoffs, Diamondbacks coming and going, we
can beat them. We're just as confident with Greggy and
Ray going in Games one in Game two as the
Dodges are going with Kershaw and likely you Darvish, I mean,
we're just we feel just as good and we match
up pretty well. You've had yah c l Pleak saying
earlier this year the Diamondbacks, for whatever it is, always
seem to play the Dodgers stuff. Trust me. The one

(01:26:40):
team the Dodgers don't want to see in the playoffs
are the Diamondbacks. They'd rather see the Cubs. They'd rather
see the Nationals. They don't want to see the Diamondbacks.
No great offensive weaponry. You look at those starting pitchings
that are gonna match up so well, you've only got
two more games against each other in the regular season,
so that'll get pushed aside and filed as we go

(01:27:01):
through the final couple of weeks. UH. One thing that
must be noted out of this game tonight, rich Hill
did have a fantastic starting his six innings, and that's
all you're looking for him, and then the bullpen imploded
and it just became a congo line around the bases
as this game really got out of hand. But you
look at what the Dodgers have done through the course
of the season. They've had their way with the rest

(01:27:23):
of Major League Baseball. The Diamondbacks scrappy, they get, They've
jumped on them early. As I said that, that's been
the hallmark on this team. This was the first time
where they had to wait to get into the bullpen
before they started putting up runs. They they've been early
early UH offense and big time home run power early

(01:27:44):
in these other games. So tonight finishes thirteen nothing and
certainly in Los Angeles. The last two weeks not pretty
because even before the losing began, the offense was sputtering
a bit right, and you started to have some issues.
Bellinger to the disabled list for his ten d d
L stint. They're waiting on Kershaw to come back, and

(01:28:06):
so a little bit of uncertainty, and when you've been
dominant for the first four months of the season, a
little bit of uncertainty, a little bit of chaos. I
called it testing your playoff metal at least at the
beginning of the street. Now you get to right, you
gotta snap out of this. And obviously getting away from
Arizona is all fine and good, but they're gonna be
standing there at the finish line waving at you, saying,

(01:28:27):
all right, let's get after it. Hot take theater. Trust me,
there's many teams the Dodge. They do not want to
see the Diamondbacks because the diamond Backs are in their head.
And the diamond Backs now we can beat them, don't see. Well,
we always talk about the undem That is right way
to finish off the phrase ology good. No, that's the

(01:28:49):
point is that just when you look at well, I
can always wax loquaciously, but but but when you talk
about teams in your division, you see each other, you
know the man manager and the tells and what they're
gonna do in terms of how they handled their bullpen,
how they handled their their switches and their defensive rotations,
and and how they're gonna go through in the later

(01:29:11):
innings and try to match up as you get into
your own bullpen. So when we talk about the number
of games they played against each other, I mean, you've
seen every permutation of the squad and obviously have September
call ups and and get a little bit of change
and variability there. But overall, we're again seeing best on best,

(01:29:32):
and yes, the rotational lineup differently should they meet in
the playoffs. But but certainly there are no pushovers both
at the plate and and on the mound. And that's
something when we look at some of the other teams
that you'll face come playoff time. The Cubs Ariata, we
don't know how serious this hamstring injury is gonna be,
and he'd been pitching lights out since the beginning of

(01:29:53):
the second half of the season, So that's one of
potential east that's gone there. When when we look at
other teams, they have. They don't have necessarily the same
balance Arizona does, and so I think that's the one
thing that will cause the Dodgers fits as you get
closer to the playoffs and keeping an eye on what
they're doing in terms of their advancement. Now, I'll give

(01:30:14):
you the sunny side for the Dodgers. Give you the
sunny side for the Dodgers. The Jason Smith, Joe Jason,
Mike Carmon eight on Fox Twitter at how A Buafresca
The Dodges at five they got twenty five games left.
Now they know they're not catching the Seattle Mariners at
one sixteen. Whatever was out there was, Boy are winning
where we're winning all these games? You have a charmed life.

(01:30:35):
They're winning games. They had no right winning. It was
just happening for them. Down three runs of the ninth,
they were gonna find a way to beat the White Sox. Sorry, buddy,
but it's okay, buddy. I I watched that happen against
every other team as well. The Dodgers were not unique
in that capacity this season. Now, could you win games
if you get back to the pace you were at, Yeah,

(01:30:55):
but that's not one sixteen. It's not greatest of all time.
It's not we want to set a record. If you're
the Dodge Noguel, Okay, you can sit back and say,
all right, if I'm Dave Roberts, is what I tell
the team, I go listen. We've been scuffling. It happens. Okay,
there's nothing we can do about anything that's happened so far.
But realize now, don't worry about how many wins we're
gonna have. Don't worry about are we gonna be fifty

(01:31:18):
games over five hcause it's tough to not pay attention
to that stuff when you're looking for suppruol. This is
because all you're doing is winning. Now we realize we're
a fantastic team that's gonna win the World Series. But
we have to button things up and we got to
get back to playing as we were playing at before.
We have to make sure our pitching is better, we
have to make sure our offense gets out of it,

(01:31:38):
and we're gonna try some different things. But let's not
worry about one six team. Let's not worry about what
kind of levels we can get to as a team,
because that's gone. That's completely gone. The regular season doesn't
matter no, and if if you can't, if you can't
break the record for for most wins all time, that
we oh, well we have the Nation League record. But
don't worry about it. Don't worry about that. You got
a ten game lead in the Nationals. That's you gotta

(01:32:00):
focus on ten game lead on them because you don't
want them to catch you, because then, depending what happens,
the NLC says, oh, wait a minute, we're not getting
them all at ours, So that's you want to worry about.
But it's a ten game lead. Don't look at the standings.
Just go out and play. Play like we have been.
We had a great we have a great clubhouse, we
have guys that are hitting all across the board. We'll
get back to being that great team. Don't think anything

(01:32:23):
else other than we have our game tomorrow and let's
not get distracted, because look, it's easy. It's easy to
be distracted when you've been playing great and you get
people patting me on the back, and what are you
gonna say? We keep winning every game, all right, now
get back to baseball. All the other stuff goes away. Yeah,
you gotta hunker back down. I mean this, the regular
season doesn't matter. And I saw a number of columns

(01:32:45):
and reports this past week plus saying, no, this is
historic and whatever happens, you know this is a great season.
Like no, non't know not whatever happens. Tell that to
the Dodger fans. Tell that to the Dodger players in
the organization for what happened the last four years. After
winning the division, you don't win in October, it doesn't matter.
Tell Clayton Kershaw that this was a great regular season.

(01:33:07):
He'll throw you up. Your press path is gonna be revoked.
And if you ever look at them sideways again, you're done.
I mean that that's just the reality of it. They
realized there are two different seasons being played here, and
somehow you gotta find a way to get back on
track and navigate this thing so you're playing better baseball
coming in. I mean, for now, it's a two week
blip and it makes for great sky is falling radio.

(01:33:30):
But this there's obviously some things that aren't a lot
of runners left on base. Bullpen has been a bit shaky.
You saw a couple of long balls tonight, So those
are things you have to shore up. And yes, you
hope with the resetting of your rotation that it goes away.
But there's no guarantees in this game. You see things
turn on a dime all the time for Dave Roberts.

(01:33:51):
Now it's time to get guys refocused and back at
the task at hand, which is being ready for October.
It's not about any nonsensical regular season mark because you
can keep those Twitter at How about a fresco that
Jason Smith show Jason and my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the Getic Studios. Coming up next, the game

(01:34:11):
of the night in college football. Wait, will we tell
you not only how it turned out, but the stat
line for Georgia Tech as they fall short to Tennessee.
It passes understanding what I saw it on TV myself,
it happened. It's next on Fox. Mus you got some

(01:34:42):
bubbling crude coming up. You have to listen to the
whole show. Luckily, right after the show is over, you
can download the entire show listen to whatever portion of
it you want to. While we're playing song involving muskrats
Well iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, listen to it, rate us,

(01:35:07):
give us five stars. We'll love you forever and ever
and ever and ever and ever. I didn't realize the
muskrat reservoir ran so deep in our musical history. I
didn't know the very instrumental If you tell me songs
involving muskrats, muskrat love, that's it. I didn't know there
was more muskrat Sally. I mean, this is this is

(01:35:29):
muskrat Sally. It's you Sally, right, that muskrat. That's not
a horse. It's not a horse. We are the Animals
Show of Records, the underappreciated Animal Show of Record. Muskrats Tomorrow,
guess what our favorite marsupio is. You've got marsupial in.

(01:35:57):
We got hypothalmus in on Thursday and now, yeah, everybody
next level? Uh meanwhile, J D. Martinez tonight, pretty sure
I know what to play. The night is gonna be
not one, not two, not three, but four home runs
for the Diamondback Slugger as they beat the Dodgers thirteen
to nothing. The Dodgers are done. I take theater, They're done.

(01:36:19):
I take them. But I am the god of hell
Fire and I bring you hot takes. The game of
the night in college football, where we watch Georgia Tech
and that triple option run rings around Tennessee for four
quarters and over time. It was impressive. It was shocking.

(01:36:44):
But certainly when you see a team run the football
eighty six times for five and thirty five yards and
six touchdowns, you're thinking, Okay, I know what's gonna happen.
Georgia Tech is gonna win this game, and really most
most cases, because really that's what happened tonight. Georgia Tech

(01:37:06):
eighty six rushes for five and thirty five yards, and
still they went to overtime against Tennessee. And after Tennessee
scored in double overtime to take the lead, Georgia Tech
comes back with a touchdown run and they decided to
go for two to end it. And here's the play
that ended it. Waits for the staff. It's gonna roll right,

(01:37:28):
gonna tuck it off, He's not gonna make it. Tennessee
stops him, Tennessee stops him. Marshall trying to turn it up,
and the balls picked praying. The Tennessee volunteers have held
on in double over time as the balls riley to
win it forty to forty. Wanda Volunteers Radio Network on

(01:37:48):
the call. Despite all of that rushing Tennessee winds up
winning the game forty two to forty one over Georgia Tech.
A huge night for Georgia Tech quarterback to Kwan Marshall
hundred and twenty yards passing to nine and five touchdowns.
On the ground, he carried the ball forty four times.

(01:38:10):
Benson had twenty six carries again, eighty six for five
thirty five and six touchdowns, and they still found a
way to lose. This is you know, this is unbelievable,
but only entertaining here in the guy look on a
Monday night when it's the only football game going on.
Why not because the largest margin during the game was

(01:38:31):
fourteen points heading into the early part of the fourth quarters.
So contested throughout, but just seemed like Georgia Tech every
time you looked up that they're running the ball and
they controlled every Tennessee had what eighteen minutes of possession,
So yeah, they scored pretty fast. But I know there's

(01:38:53):
gonna be some criticism because the final play was a
pitch out that didn't go right and Marshall tried to
pitch it and it was ruled a forward pass and
they didn't get in the end zone anyway. But I
get all what are you doing. You just run the
ball eighty six times or five five yards. I can run.
I don't care if they know what play is coming.
I don't care if they know it's gonna be an

(01:39:14):
option run and the quarterbacks gonna keep it. I don't care.
We've just run eighty six times for five thirty five.
They have not shown they can stop us. They're exhausted.
We're gonna get two yards, but they couldn't get to.
You came down to one play and they couldn't get
two yards. You have to think, if you're Georgia Tech,
we're gonna get to Paul Johnson, we We're gonna get
two yards. It's gonna happen. But it just didn't happen.

(01:39:37):
Nothing you can do. I love the call to go
for two because you would just watched Tennessee come down
the field and score and score and score. They had
two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to close it. They
had two touchdowns in overtime. Your defense wasn't stopping them.
They weren't stopping them. You have to realize that in overtime,
when your defense keeps getting beat like that, that you
have to do something and you have to figure out something,
and and and put the ball in your best players hands.

(01:40:00):
And that's what Georgia Tech did. Georgia Tech did the
right thing all the way around. It just didn't work
out for him. I was happy and please with everything
they did, how the decisions to made. Look, Johnson made
a great call to side anybody that's mad, really you're
just looking to hate. Tennessee made the one player they
needed to make. They didn't make any plays on defense
all night. They made one and they win the game. Well,
they had the big strip on a on a big

(01:40:22):
run late and fourth quarter that that give them the
ball back, So give him an opportunity to get things
tied up. You look at the missed field goal, the blocks.
It's always the miss slash block because if it goes
past the line of scrimmage, it's just a missed field goal.
But that that's semantics. They had too miss field goals
on the night for Georgia Tech. Perhaps why you didn't

(01:40:43):
see the kicker come trotting out for the tying extra
point part of it. Paul Johnson also saying, you know what,
it's time to finish it. We've had success. You look
at the yards per carry, you look at the number
of big plays in this case. Marshall just didn't get
rid of the ball fast enough as three bond. He swarmed. Honestly,
he couldn't get enough to swing it out to the
running back and give him any kind of opportunity to

(01:41:05):
throw it was then was so far out. No no,
but but that was the point, is that he couldn't
get anything on the ball right, ran to the short
side of the field, tried to cut it up a
little bit, then under a swarm, tried to last second
throw it out. Couldn't field it. Clintancy, I throw fielded
cleanly as as if you were a baseball player that
it's an incomplete pass, doesn't not the knee not falling

(01:41:28):
a half yard shore, Because that was the great replay
early on. And when we're in the gig studios, you're
you're trying to figure out exactly how how the players like,
wait a minute, that guy's just short. Wow, this is
gonna be one of those no, no, incomplete pass. Move on.
But it was a great finish, gutsy call. And for
Butch Jones and for the Tennessee volunteers, they escape. They

(01:41:49):
will not see a triple option team running at them
with great regularity, so you know the outlier, but certainly
over the course of the game, give him some credit
for just not getting run over, because with that number
of plays, run very easy for the defense to start
tripping on their tongues and giving up. Instead, they made
a couple of big plays late that kept them in

(01:42:09):
the game, game a shot to win it in double ot.
Let's realize the reality here when it comes to teams
like Tennessee. They win tonight and that's awesome. Florida got
pasted by Michigan on Saturday. They were ranked seventeen coming in,
They're gonna drop. They had zero on offense. Michigan's defense
was so fast, they put so much pressure on Florida's
offense in Florida doesn't have the playmakers to make plays. Yes,

(01:42:33):
they had benched a couple of their guys, ten guys overall,
but still there's only two starters though, right, Yeah, but
you know still that you you weren't doing anything against
Michigan's defense. In fact, without Wilson Spate throwing it to
Florida's defense the way he did, you're not scoring anything.
And if I'm Michigan, I'm really nervous because Spate has

(01:42:53):
shown that he his mistakes aren't just oh I threw
a pick or oh I fumbled. It's always point is
always mistakes that take immediate points away from Michigan and
give points to the opposition. It's this one where you
can look at what Georgia Tech just didn't install the
triple option. We just we're just gonna run it this way,
not gonna down field anymore. But look, but teams like

(01:43:15):
Tennessee and Florida, they're not great teams. They have the
image of being, oh, maybe this is Florida's year, maybe
this is Tennessee's here just because they play in the SEC.
You know what, You take Alabama out of the SEC,
and the SEC is just like any other conference. Do
they have more pro style players coming in, Yes, they do,

(01:43:36):
but college football talent wise, how good they are, they're
not heading shoulders above everybody else. These are jag teams.
Florida is now a jag team in the SEC. So
is Tennessee. So are most of the teams in the SEC.
Tex A and m is a jag team. They're just
like any other teams that are ranked anywhere from twelve

(01:43:57):
or fifteen through just like the team in the Big
Ten that are ranked twelve through five, just like teams
in the Big twelve, they're not great. They don't have
great skill players like they used to. The The era
of the SEC really ended about five years ago. This
doesn't mean that every year you can't get a surprise
SEC team besides Alabama, that they're gonna jump up and

(01:44:19):
play for the national title. Certainly, we've seen LSU do it,
We've seen Auburn do it. It could happen. But the
sustained success, no, No, nobody else sustained success like that
except for Alabama, and they do at a level bigger
than anybody in the country. It's really Alabama and Ohio
State when you talk about teams that year and year
out are the ones that, hey, who were in the
playoff and who were great teams. That's it. It's those

(01:44:41):
two teams because just just as many teams in the
SEC in the top twenty five are another conference, and
just because it's an SEC team ranked at fifteen doesn't
mean they blow the doors off a Pack twelve team
ranked five rank fift Overall, they're jag teams. They're okay.
But you see what happens, they can lose. The other
JAG teams A and M couldn't hold a lead against

(01:45:01):
U C L A when they were up by thirty
eight points and know their quarterback, but they could hold
thirty eight point lead. This is exactly what I mean
when I say these are JAG teams. Well, thing about history, recency,
bias and what people have come to know, so the
expectation is that they're great. How many times you see
No tre Dame ranks so high and then go in

(01:45:22):
and drop a number of games and suddenly be drifting
down the rankings. You see that history reputation means a lot,
and for the sec that's been ridden on and people
have voted on that going on a decade plus twitter
at how about a fresco that Jason Smith showed Jason
and my biss friend Mike Harmon live from the Geico

(01:45:42):
studios in one minute, a story about hitting four home
runs in the game, like j D Martinez did tonight.
That one very specific person does not want to get told,
and it's the person I live with. But I'm gonna
tell it anyway because I'm here for you. But first,
let's find was treading guys it's been great to be

(01:46:02):
with you on the special theme night. Thanks buddy, thanks
for being part of the action. It's just it's just
it's muskrat Night and other stuff going up. We're not
shooting muskrat. People think we gotta collect them somehow. Actually,
as a food source, I I found a reference from
the Catholic News Service that on Lent Friday's muskrat is
allowed on that southeastern portion of Michigan. They have a

(01:46:24):
special dispensation. So if you really are craving meat fry
I used to work out at the VFW, can have muskrat.
Get to Southeastern Michigan. Fish and muskrat Tonight to you,
brought to you by There we go. We've come full circle.
The college football game Tonight's Tennessee preseason number twenty five,

(01:46:47):
a double overtime winner at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, one
vault stop to two point try at the end, John
Kelly with four touchdown runs. Meanwhile, that game at Dodger Stadium, Arizona,
when it's eleventh straight con test thirteen nothing was the
final over slumping l A. J. D. Martinez hit four homers,
which ties the Major League record for one game that

(01:47:07):
included homers in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. He
has eighteen homers in just forty games for the Diamondbacks.
Was acquired from Detroit in July. He'll be a free
agent in the off season. Winning pitcher Robbie Ray was
perfect through the first five innings, wound up with fourteen
strikeouts in seven and two thirds. The Dodgers have lost
nine of ten. They have hit rock bottom, although they

(01:47:29):
have to face Zak Granky tomorrow night, so we'll find
out if rock Bottom has a basement. Cleveland has one.
Keep digging the Indians. Trevor Bauer is a fifteen game
winner now. He beat the White Sox in Chicago today
five three twelve straight wins for the Tribe. The loss
to James Shields two and six. He left in the
seventh with a bruise knee taking a liner. The Yankees

(01:47:51):
got a seven four win at Baltimore Starling Castro with
three hits. Tonight, Boston lost at home ten four to
Toronto Blue Jays with four homers, including Jon Smokes thirty seven.
So the Red Sox first in the Al East, now
only two and a half games over the Yankees, who
have won three straight. Angels won in eleven innings at Oakland.
The A's have dropped seven in a row. St Louis

(01:48:11):
Gotta win, but Milwaukee lost and the Cubs lost, losing
pitcher Jake Arietta left in the third inning today with
a hamstring injury. Justin Thomas the Gulf winner at Boston
by three strokes over Jordan's speed. Back to you, thank you,
Mr to say you appreciated. Continue to look up where
else to get muskrat in the United States on a Friday,
if you're not allowed to eat, is that a road trip?

(01:48:32):
So we have to do that, and then we have
to go find the horse meat sandwich. The name of
the restaurant my wife used to work out is called
Dom Polskys and they have muskrat Pulskys muskrat Dinners. I
mean that's not the name of the name of it
was Don Pulsky. They had the sign from muskrat Dinner.
I'm already thinking about the box and label design. You

(01:48:53):
can eat the muskrat and then make a hat for
George Costanza. I don't know if Don Polski is still
alive or if you know, if it's well, it could
be like the dread pirate Roberts. It could be that
Don Polski is the Don Polsky before him. But that's
the place where the Muskrat Dinners came from. Speaking speaking

(01:49:14):
of my wife, did you know Mike Harmon that you
know eighteen players in Major League Baseball history having four
home runs in a night? I know Mike Schmidt among them.
Did you know that Mark Witten who had four home
runs in a night the legend nearly hit four home
runs two nights in a row. I don't think remember

(01:49:34):
from the Mark Whitten who did it? In my musically
is Alexischer can have that? Please? Thank you very much?
So in when Mark Witten does this. I was a
production assistant in the ESPN and I was dating a
young woman who would later become my wife, I Pam.

(01:49:55):
I was working in production, she was working in engineering.
I took an elevator all the way up. I wrote
extra floors, I got off. She's an engineering You can't
turn a computer on. No, she knows everything. Anything that
comes up. Yeah, they all If something technical comes up
and like someone's in the house, like a plumber or something,
they go, so, sir, you know, I'm like yeah, yeah, yeah, Pamm,
you're listening, right, yeah, take care of yeah, you know

(01:50:17):
what's going on right? Yeah? Okay, So she's an engineering
Before all the shows on ESPN and and and wherever
you watch Fox, whatever TV shows you watch, there's something
called the teas, which is hey, coming up tonight, Mark Witten,
four home runs for the St. Louis Cardinals and all
the other big things that make you want to watch
the whole show. So in production, we would put the
teas together and the engineers hit play on these big

(01:50:41):
tape machines when it was time for the show. All
the highlights that you watch on TV, we're all played
off these big tape machines. Now it's different, obviously because
now everything is digital. But this is in the mid
So Mark Witten hits four home runs and that's the
story that night. The next night, my wife is working
as an engine here on Baseball tonight. And they would

(01:51:03):
always put the teas at the same spot on the
tape because it made sense. They always need to go
to a certain spot on the tape, and that's where
the teas would roll from. Well, my wife gets the
idea of going, why are we reusing one spot on
the tape. It's gonna it's not that's not gonna be good.
If the tape's gonna break or something's gonna happen, it's
not gonna look good when you're going over the same
spot at tape a bunch of times. Remember when you

(01:51:25):
would record a bunch of things onto a cassette and
you'd think after the third or fourth time, the volume
quality was really low. So she decides I'm gonna record
the teas at the five minute mark on the tape
instead of the one minute mark. So she's in the
tape room and they're ready, Okay, the teas is in
all right, great, and she records it at the five
minute mark. Everything's fine, I'm in the I'm in the

(01:51:48):
room doing my thing. I'm outside, and about five minutes
before the show starts, my wife's goes to the bathroom
and she tells the other guy she's working with the tape,
everything's all set, going to the bathroom. I'll be right back, guys. Okay, great.
She goes to the bathroom. The guy sees that the
teases at the five minute mark and says, oh, this
should be back at the one minute and brings it

(01:52:09):
all the way back to the one minute mark. So
when my wife comes back from the bathroom, okay, everything set,
they roll, The tea is ready set roll. She presses
the button and the first thing you see is and
Mark Witten four home runs from the St. Louis Cardinals night,
the same tease from the night before. And I'm I'm
in a room in screening, the screening area, and I'm
going Mark Witten didn't hit four home runs to night.

(01:52:32):
Oh my god, Oh my god. PAMs in that tape room,
Oh my god. So it's all the highlights from the
night before rolling. There was a funny squirrel that was
running around like or something. And I running the tape
from Hey, nut Job two in theaters now and I
run and I go hey, and she goes, I'll talk
to you after the show. I'll talk to you after
the show. She was just getting yelled at, why did

(01:52:54):
you record the teas? Love that because there are people
that are going wait a minute, Mark Witten at four
home run, Oh my god, eight old runs in two games.
Not a legend, going down among the game's grades, even
if he goes down with a career ending injury tomorrow
almost hit four home runs of two straight games. That's
that would have really been something. That's my wife's legacy
to ESPN. We were both there, that's it. That was

(01:53:15):
her legacy. Yeah, well, well, I mean, did she marry
the kid, but you know that that was her work
legs kid. She's never called me the kid though. That's
why I say it. You really keep hoping that's gonna
stick at home at some point. Makes me feel young
in my forties, makes me feel young. I'm the kids.
Still trying to get that one to go over now,
because if I say the kids, Zoe will go Dad,

(01:53:35):
I'm a kid. That's me. Okay, never mind, kid really
kills that entire, you know, vibe you're trying to get,
especially when the kid but my dad, I'm the kid. Yeah,
if you because you know, Zoe is very literal. She's
one of those literal kids where I say, every time
I've asked you to brush your teeth, you always delay, dad,
not every time. Last night, I went okay, very very literal,

(01:53:58):
and so it's it's tough to see things like that,
but she's very little. She likes to live by exact
words danger will Robinson danger, although getting that can come
back on her later. It'll be good for you as
she gets a little older. J D. Martinezays, eight, ho
runs in the last two games. It's amazing. We're gonna
run that. Tomorrow is we're gonna play This is what incredible?

(01:54:19):
Ioty Twitter and how about a fresco The Jason Smith
Show coming up next to Playing the Night and a
big surprise. This is the Jason Smith Show Fox Sports Radio.
A little slide over baby music here when the guy
goes to just not wait wait, wait, that's hot stuff
right there. Hang on. I just want to try to

(01:54:39):
visualize you like in a speedoh with like you know,
in a smoking jacket. No, no, you're not a speedo guy.
You'd be like with the boxers with the with the
lips on him and wearing a smoking jacket, putting on
putting on a song on your sound system, your wife

(01:55:02):
walking and going what is this? And you're playing muskrat
Love and you're saying, hey, how about we uh get horizontal?
I mean, really, muskrat Love is not horizontal. The saying
that is right, but I'd be scared if I was
your wife. You're playing muskrat Oh, Tonight's soothing, relaxing. What

(01:55:27):
I skied over. I forgot my person in the car.
I'll be right back. No, No, I'll be right I'll
be right back. No, but I don't. I think I
left the car unlocked and the windows rolled down. My
keys are in the ignition. I gotta go back and
get them. Yeah, let me, I'll be right back, I promise.
The only thing dropping around there. There's no way a

(01:55:49):
baby has ever been conceived of muskrat love. Maybe a
baby muskrat has been conceived of muskrat love, but not not.
But stop shooting the muskrat. It's a muskrat, the musket
taking out. Hey, by the way, happy birthday, Ken Harrilson.
That's that's the hawk. It's not a musk it's not
a muskrat. The hawk is a natural I got a

(01:56:13):
feeling hawksy muskrat the natural enemy of the muskrat. So
I thought it only the natural enemy. Like, if you like,
is there a TV show Hawk first muskrat? Like I
can see somewhere, like you know, uh, Mega the lawn
versus Super Goliath Shark like something. I'm I'm on the line.
I'm watching Hawk. We're not doing shark Nando's sakes. Why

(01:56:35):
we're doing hawk versus muskrat, a hawk versus minky battle
going on here, Dminki did mink about that? I don't
think you're allowed to be on that website at I
don't think you could be on there. You have to
watch out the play that I brought to my Geico
great news, great news. You want to save money, go

(01:56:58):
to Geico dot com. But in fifteen minutes, you could
be saving cent or more on car insurance. When you
hit four home runs, especially against the Dodgers, it's pretty simple.
J D. Martinez, you get to be the play of
the night. Martinez another drive and he's done it. Four

(01:57:18):
homers in the ball game for j D. Martinez. He's
turning a major league record and j D. Martine is
a part of history tonight here at Dodgers City with
a four homer ball game, a phenomenal achievement. Four home
runs for j. D. Martinez, just the eighteenth player in
Major League baseball history to do that. He now has
eighteen home runs in his first forty games as a

(01:57:41):
Diamond Back. And let's be honest, certain times you realize
about a player, Okay, we're renting him for a season.
The rest of this year, we's gotta hope that we have,
you know, a really good end of the season. He
helps us, and then you get to the point where
you realize, uh, I don't really know that we can
do without him. It's I can't remember what our team
was like Perfom, And certainly the Diamondbacks were having a

(01:58:03):
pretty good season before they got Martinez. They were just
in the shadow of the Dodgers. But now here they are.
They haven't trailed in ninety innings, and with martinez anty
home runs like this, it's almost like you have to
bring him back because he's become that integral to your
team that fast. It's happened well, but you look at
the way the offense has clicked, and they've been fast
starters for a good chunk of the season since his arrival,

(01:58:27):
and certainly tonight putting a beat down on the Dodgers relievers,
and tomorrow you get Granky back on the mound. So
you think the momentum keeps rolling. But now it becomes
the interesting decision point of is he just a rental?
What's the cost in the open market for a guy

(01:58:48):
with that kind of power, And obviously eighteen and forty
games We're not extrapolating that over a hundred sixty two
games and looking for him to be some superhuman But
we've been in the mid thirties with him before in
terms of power, and there aren't a lot of players
hitting those marks necessarily anymore. So all of a sudden,
you may have to break the bank to keep this

(01:59:09):
middle of the lineup intact and keep pace with the Dodgers.
I mean, because that's your other motivations. You're seeing what
you're doing with him head to head, but starting to
advance the narrative to future seasons. Dodgers aren't going anywhere
with all that young talent. For the Diamondbacks, behooves them
to start thinking about contracts and how they keep this
band together. I promised the big play of the night

(01:59:29):
and a surprise. Here's your surprise. Get ready for this.
You may have seen the last game that Sebastian Janikowski
has kicked for the Oakland Raiders. I feel cheated. The
two sides in a contractual standoff. Adam Schefter with the
story earlier tonight, and Oakland's asked Janikowski to rework his contract.
He's gonna make four million dollars in the final year

(01:59:51):
of his deal, and so far Janikowski has declined he
was hurt the last couple of weeks. They owe him
the entirety of his salary if he's still on the
roster by Saturday, so this could be it if he
doesn't take a pay cut or rework his salary. Janikowski,
who has kicked for the Raiders for two hundred and
sixty eight games two that's tied with Luke Roza and

(02:00:17):
Junior Sale for NFL history. Janikowski and Brady are tied
for the NFL's longest tenure right now, with their current
teams having both entered the league back in two thousand.
The Raiders have already had a couple of players in
to kick for them, potentially Mike Nugent Josh Lambeau were
in there on Monday to to kick in case you
had to make a move. This could have been it

(02:00:39):
for Janikowski. You may send and I gotta say, if
he doesn't rework it, he's gone and the Raiders will
sign one of these guys and they're moving on to
something else, especially when you're talking about a back injury
as well. So there's no guarantee that he's going to
be able to get through the season. And when we're
talking about that kind of cash wrapped up in a kicker,
there's many other viable options to kick p e t
s behind Derek Carr's arm. All right, now, you were

(02:01:01):
looking something up that you wanna we want to close
with tonight, and yeah, I don't know where you found it,
but what's on there? Who eats up? National Park Service? Well,
what does a muskrat eat? Or who eats a muskrat?
And he didn't find the muskrat there? It is river
rotter eats fish, frogs and young muskrats a river rotter.
So if I watch Emmet Daters Christmas special, I'm gonna

(02:01:23):
see him eat a muskrat. You might they might edit
that for content, though you'd have to get the unandited
version and d J the Muskrat at the bottom of
the River Bottom Gang Ben Miller is up next on
