(00:24):
listening to Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Radio that Jason
Smith Show with my big friend Mike Harmon. Love from
the Farmers Insurance studios. Call one triple eight Farmers. That's
one triple eight Farmers. When you switch to Farmers Insurance,
you could save a bundle. All you gotta do is
(00:44):
call get a quote. Today we are Farmers, Okay, So
we'll get to Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll coming up
in a few minutes, because clearly there's something that's not
being talked about that tells me that Russell Wilson is
going to be traded sometime in the next couple of weeks.
But we we we we gotta get to jose Canseco
(01:07):
before that. Uh, you know, I really I you know,
you know how certain things you expect on the on
the sports calendar. It's fun when there's a Laker or
a Warrior's game on at night in the window when
we're on, because hey, the Lakers are always a big story.
You never know if Skeff's Steff wants up scoring fifty.
I think on Friday night we need Jose can Secco
to just tweet whatever he wants to so we can
(01:28):
talk about it, because there's no more there's no more
fun Friday things to talk about than whatever Jose Canseco
is tweeting on a Friday night. Uh, and this clearly
falls under that category. So Jose Canseco Mr. Forty forty,
two time World Series Champion, six time All Star, uh,
collected money for an m M A fight that that
really upset Dave Portnoy. You know Jose Canseco the past
(01:51):
few years. Um, here are his last three tweets tonight,
and the most recent one is getting a ton of
attention on social media. Uh. Three hours ago, Jose Canseco
tweeted out blanket, I have nothing to lose, Okay, can
we do that? I certainly believe that about Jose Canseco,
(02:13):
what he said it done to his career. Yeah, no,
he has nothing left to lose, and then he's then
he tends out a tweet that says it's time everyone
knows the truth. Alright, So Blanket, I thought Aready wrote that.
You know, I mean, but who knows what it could
be Harmon, It could be anything with him, Come on,
(02:33):
it could be it could be Baker Mayfield is right,
Aliens live at my house right now. You want to
interview when he's staying in my guesthouse. He tends the
pool for me. I mean, it could be anything with Conseco.
I didn't think about that, Yeah, it really, I mean really.
The tweet before Blanket I have nothing to lose was
two days ago where he says I'll be at uh
showtime car wash tomorrow from one to two pm. Come
(02:56):
to the car wash, get an autograph and some gas.
I mean that remember for this, Yeah you know I
do remember that one coming out. Okay, So Blanket I
have nothing to lose. Then it's time everyone knows the truth.
Now this is the best part. If you don't know
what I'm gonna say, I could say anything and you
would say, wow, you would believe me because it's Jose Canseco.
(03:16):
I can say anything I want to. Yeah, I can't wait,
you know, leave me with bated breath, wondering what's next. Alright,
so Blanket, I have nothing to lose. It's time everyone
knows the truth. And this is real. I'm not, you know,
making this up and saying like, oh, Dave Kingman wants
hit me over the head with a bat in the game. No, no, no, thinker.
Tony Larus is back at the game, so he's got
(03:37):
to start throwing some haymakers and end at some point.
So this is the tweet from Mosaic and Saco two hours.
He waited an hour to you know, let everything in
suspense build from blanket, I have nothing to lose. It's
time everyone knows the truth. And then he tweeted out
Mark McGuire corked his bat before every game, And that's
(04:00):
the tweet that has taken off in the last hour
or so. Mark McGuire corked his bat before every game. Well,
then now this is out there. Yeah. Uh. Now. The
thing is, though, is that I don't corking your bat
is not something that you do before every game, you know,
(04:22):
because you you would if you cork your bat, you
would you would do it and just have your supply, right.
I don't think it's something where I gotta do a
bat here. You know, It's not something you really would
do in the in the in the locker room. I
don't think. Hey, where all the reporters walking around? What's
Mark McGuire did always cork in his bat man. It's
all good. That's that's done, and that's done off facility,
(04:43):
and then you smuggle them in hun your cover of night. No, uh,
mix them into the bat rack. Uh. Yeah, that's that's
not game day. Hey, watch me over in my locker.
I'm gonna take some androw and now I'm gonna cork
get tonight's game bats. It's not the way that works.
Oh wait, I need to explain to millennials what corking
(05:04):
a bat is, because, yeah, corking a bat is what
you do as you fill the inside of the barrel
of your bat with cork or some other substance to
make the bat lighter, which gives you a quicker swing
and you can you can hit the ball better. And
you know, depending on the cork you put in your bat,
the ball flies off the bat a little bit more.
It was very big in the seventies and eighties that
(05:25):
people would do that. And remember Albert Bell and the
cork bat. We're supposedly people were climbing in to get
it when the ducks. Yeah, we're crawling through the air
ducks in Cleveland to get the bat. So but that's
something that we haven't had a good cork bad headline
and probably fifteen years. I'd say, no, it's been a
long time. I just made the mistake also of searching
that term un urban dictionary. No wait, wait, what what
(05:48):
what term do you search? Cork corking bats, cork bat,
cork bat, cork bat? Hang on? Can't talk about cork bat? Like,
what what's the phrase? I don't I don't see what
quirking the bat? Co oh, corking the bat? Okay, hang on,
quirking the batman? Okay, Wikipedia or condictionary? Whoa yeah, Okay, Nope, nope, nope, no, no,
(06:12):
not stop. So now I wonder M six seven eight.
I wonder is this gonna be something that Mark McGuire
responds to. Is he gonna blow it off? Is it
gonna be easy to blow it off? That's jose Canseco,
and he tweets about aliens and stuff too. I don't know.
(06:33):
I mean, I'm really surprised you didn't tweet about aliens
after Baker Mayfield. Well he has in the past, has
and he he has, so how does he not pick
up the mantle from Baker Mayfield? Baker I got some
cheap victory for him. I I got you aliens. I've
seen him and he was leading. Couldn't you buy an
expedition with jose Can Saco to see aliens in the desert? Like,
wasn't he doing that? Like, oh, he was concerned about
(06:55):
aliens and Bigfoot during the pandemic. Yes, well I'd be
concerned about and he promised a meeting with them, yes, right, yeah,
I mean if you probably that's I got to think
that if you could promise a meeting with Bigfoot, you
would get people that would pay a lot of money.
Yeah that was um two years ago February. Yeah, there
was two years ago. Yeah, if you're willing to pay
up and spend the day with him. He was promising
(07:15):
a meeting with an alien big I tell you, it's
time flies by ratherly. Just thought it was just just
about a year ago. But maybe you're right. Uh So
Now Mark McGuire corked his bat before every game, So
I don't know what happened tonight that he just decided
what am I gonna tweet? It's a Friday night. Oh yeah,
McGuire corked his bat. Let me put that out there.
Just put that out there. Just seems like a random
(07:35):
thing decided opinions. I mean, I get we're back in
spring training and out one of these stories from back
in the day, and it just seems pretty arbitrary. You
know what, I think we could play the jose Con
Saco twitter game. You know, we do it for Magic
now you're talking, but Magic doesn't tweet enough. We we
(07:58):
can only play it when Magic decides, Hey, I'm gonna
send like ten tweets in an hour. That's what he does.
Like usually it's a barrage. And I think they're into
the joke now, so I don't think it works as well.
Yeah he needs But if we did jose Can Saco
twitter game, where your job is to figure out is
this a jose Can Saco tweet or not? I mean
just what I could do with it. I could get
really out there. Well, you really need to go towards
the third rail. I can get the yeah, delusional it.
(08:23):
I mean, like with with the Magic John's Twitter game,
it's it's difficult because I have to try to be
as generic and vanilla as possible, and so it's a
but creatively, but that's the thing to do. It's a challenge.
But Canseco I could say whatever the hell I want to.
That's that may be the most more impossible Twitter game
because I could say it. He would go, I can
Saco can say that? I see that. I guess he good?
(08:43):
Maybe he did. But that might be the next game,
the jose Can Saco Twitter game. Oh, I like that,
that might be the next one. I kind of dig
that only five thousand dollars too, that it was spend
the weekend with him searching for aliens and big Foot five.
You know, if I had five grand burn, I think
that would be fun. Yeah, But would it be or
would it be fun for five minutes? You know? Like
(09:04):
I think you'd get through a weekend? Yeah? I don't know. Man,
it's like like a as long as you're promised to
a safe for a turn on the Monday morning. Now,
I don't know about that. I think I'd always be nervous.
That's something could really happen. To me. I I think
that's that falls under the category of like when you
go into a mall and and you're walking past the
(09:25):
kios and here's one that shows like this this drone
flying everywhere and it's dipping and flying and zipping, and
you look at and go, oh my god, man, that's cool,
and you think about buying it, but after you look
at it for like ninety seconds, you're like, yeah, no,
I'm kind of done. I'm walking away. I think that's
would be with Conseco. You'd get there like, yeah, Conseco,
and then you see then then after like five minutes,
you would go, oh, man, I sunk all my money
(09:46):
into this thing. It's kind of like the King of
Queen's episode where they were they hire any Money to
come hang out at the house and play, and then
he's in the middle of singing the song shaking that's
the peace any Money, I'll respect uh, and they're like,
all right, you gotta go. Yes, he was shaking, and
then he goes back into another saxophone. So I was
(10:10):
like snapping her fingers. Oh boy, I got really that
really because he he gets to it like cansacle, like
every few days he gets a run of Wow, that's
pretty fun, you know, and then then he then he
then he then he's doing something else obviously. Then he's
off Twitter. Then he gets back on, and then he's off,
(10:30):
then he's back on, he's back off. So I think
he's a little more consistent, uh, with that, be able
to do the Jose and Saco Twitter game. I like
that Mark McGuire corked his bat before every game. Yeah,
it just doesn't make sense. And that's the problem. That's
that's the problem. Like most of the other ones are
just wow, that's bat blank crazy. This one is just like, no,
(10:52):
logistically it fails. And don't you think Walt Weiss would
have come clean by now? Walt? Maybe Terry Steinbach, I
don't know, Oh my goodness, I mean really. And the
thing is, if you go to if you go to
Google right now, you're ready for something funny. If you
go to Google right now, uh, you hear that Google
Jose Can Saco right, the first thing that comes up
(11:13):
as I was a Can Saco on Twitter, and the
first three things are Mark McGuire corked is back before
every game, then my tweet about playing the Jose and
Saco Twitter game, and then jose and Saco tweet It's
time everyone knows the truth. So right now my tweet
is smack if you search, encouraging you to tell the
truth through the Twitter game, Magic Johnson. I don't know.
(11:38):
I mean it may it may be something here, I
mean really, I mean that. What does that say, fors
acn Saco is popularity? That you know that that the
last three things tweeted one of them is by somebody else?
About it? We all aspire to reach that level of celebrity. No,
this is so there you go. There is jose Can

up going where for the NBA trade deadline. Yeah, Vegas
always gives us the answers. I mean, maybe they'll find
out if Canseco Cork Cork does Bat McGuire work is
back before every game fired in line there that that's

Life is moving forward back to something we've grown more
accustomed to over the years out here in the desert. Wow,
look at you. Usually when I say what's going on?
(15:21):
You say, not a whole heck of a lot. I'm
digging that that you're saying that. This time? You know what, Smith,
I want to be the eternal optimist that comes on
this radio show. When you talk to someone who roots
for the Jets and the Mets and is perpetually exposed
to disappointment and hopes being let down. Harm has nothing
to root for when it comes to Chicago sports and
his Ala mater I have to be that ray of
(15:41):
sunshine sometimes on Friday nights, and it works heck of
a lot better when I take you guys by surprise.
I like that. No, that's that's true. That was like
a buzzer beater to leave us stunned every now and again.
I surprise myself. Gentlemen. All right, so so let's start here,
we when we get to looking ahead now the weekend
(16:01):
in the NBA, uh coming up? Look, Blake Griffin was
let go today. They was bought out by the Pistons.
Clearly the Nets are the favorites for him. Uh. Andre
Drummond could be getting bought out here. You know, what
are you seeing as as you know you're looking at
things there? What do you see that some of the
big fits for some of these players we keep going on?
You know, kind of scary when you look at the
nets and you try and figure out what piece or
(16:22):
pieces they might need to go from being a favorite
not only the Eastern Conference to having odds shorter than
the Lakers and everybody that could emerge from the Western Conference.
Blake Griffin, if this was five to seven years ago, sure,
I think he could be that missing link and get
them over the hump. But for me right now, I
think Andre Drummond, if they could find a way to
bring in that type of physical presence as a rim protector,
(16:43):
a rebounder, uh and a guy that you had to
go through to get to the basket, that in my opinion,
would complete the package. And the only thing you'd ultimately
worry about for the Brooklyn Nets is how many shots
James Harden had to take in Game seven or Steve
Nash could make the right adjustments over the course of
a full series. So I think those cogs make an
awful lot of sense. All sorts of talk as well
(17:03):
about you know, the Lakers going out there and picking
up a JaVale McGee and some other pieces along the way.
But I think if the Nets could find a way
to land Andre Drummond, we'd be talking about a slam
dunk and an inside track for them to win an
NBA title. Todd when we look at where we're at
Los Angeles, how much has changed in the futures, if
anything at all with Anthony Davis's injury, Not a whole
(17:25):
lot of movement, because they're still optimism from oddsmakers that
Anthony Davis will be back when the basketball actually starts
to matter. We've seen from the Lakers of veteran team
that getting home court to the Western Conference not going
to play a huge role. Although the potential of having
to go on the road and play the Utah Jazz
in front of maybe ten to twelve thousand fans in
Salt Lake City wouldn't be the easiest for them to
(17:46):
try and navigate. I ultimately think they could emerge from
that series when you look at some of the other
moving pieces and as far as the landscape is concerned,
Utah of course, has been the biggest beneficiary thirty to
one before the year. We've seen their odds shrink down
to eight to one, but that's still only puts them
fifth on the odds board, behind the aforementioned Lakers and Nets.
You're looking at the Clips right in the middle at
five to one, the Bucks still at seven and one,
(18:08):
and that's a team that I'll be honest I haven't
quite been able to figure out. I honestly believe the
best value proposition in the Eastern Conferences the seventy sixers
hand doc Rivers get this team to play to its
full potential. But Joe l embiad has moved from third
or fourth on the depth chart to win m v P.
He is now the favorite to FanDuel sports Book at
a price of five to two. So all those are
so not the Knicks. No, the Knicks will not be
(18:29):
considered NBA favorite. Hey, but Smith, You've got a lot
to be excited about. I mean, this was a team
in that ten to fifteen to one range just to
make the playoffs, and we're looking at this team having
an identity, trying to figure out if this young group
can come together under Tom Thibodeau's leadership. And who knew
that the baby Lakers that everybody wanted out of Westwood
and Julius Randall amongst others, could materialize into actual impact
(18:54):
players in another destination. It's funny every one of those
guys became an impact player somewhere else, and pretty impressive
when you think about the Lakers roster could have been.
Obviously they wouldn't had all the pieces, but adding Brandon
Ingram and Julius Randall back to the mix, I would
give them a little bit more of a dynamic scoring
lineup than what they have right now. And don't forget
Lou Williams. Remember they gave away Lou Williams because Magic
(19:14):
Johnson said, hey, we should reward him. He's a veteran.
Let's let him go someplace where you So you did
get one clipper in this whole equation, So we'll call
that an advantage push. And I'm not quite sure Lou
Williams lethargic attitude towards playing defense with mast real well
at that second unit Williams. The legend something we're gonna
get into in a few minutes is the situation with
(19:35):
Russell Wilson in Seattle. Where's your favorite? Where he winds
up landing for this season? I mean when when you
look at some of the details and you try and
connect the dots. And maybe I'm a little bit biased,
not as a fan, just because I want star power
in my backyard. I still think the Raiders make a
ton of sense. If Russell Wilson actually wants to be
a member of this offense, he would finally have a
truly offensive minded head coach in John Gruden. That we
(19:58):
know there are some pieces at the running back position,
wide receiver wise, an elite level offensive lines and Russ
would have plenty of chances to throw, knowing the Raiders
are ill equipped to stop just about anybody, and the
Raiders have a piece in Derek Carr that you could
ship back. The Seahawks wouldn't miss a beat a quarterback,
you wouldn't have some of the mobility, and it would
also allow the Seahawks to pick up some draft capital
and a few other pieces. I know when you read
(20:20):
all the reports and Harm I'm sure is excited, and
he comes into the studio every day, you know, bright
eyed and bushy tail thinking that the Bears are gonna
somehow with Land, Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson. I just
don't understand, because clearly Russell Wilson must not realize how
bad things are in Chicago if that, somehow is going
to be a better situation for him to lead an
offense than what he's dealing with in Seattle, especially if
(20:41):
the Bears don't franchise Tag or sign Allen Robinson to
a longer term deal. I'm telling you, man, I uh,
I've been saying that, but knowing how desperate Pace and
Naggie are to keep their jobs, they just may offer
the kitchen sink. I mean, I joked, I joked earlier today,
harm that you know what's gonna happened. The Bears are
gonna put everything out there for Deshaun Watson. They're gonna
(21:03):
swing and miss the second time with him. Russell Wilsons
can end up somewhere else, and Matt Age can have
a reunited and a surreal situation for the heartfelt kinship
that he has with one Alex Smith. I love you,
heartfelt kinship. I'm digging that all right. So um, Obviously,
Trevor Lawrence is going to be the number one overall
(21:24):
pick in the NFL draft. We've heard a lot the
last couple of days about the love fest going on.
Was Zach Wilson? Uh, is there anybody but Zack Wilson
that winds up going number two overall? What you're hearing
for me, it's starting to get a little bit bizarre,
to be quite honest, For all this love that we're
seeing throwing Zack Wilson's way, almost as though the Jets
are trying to do something smart and trying to convince
(21:47):
the rest of the world that he's going to be
their guy, luring somebody into potentially over pay and dare
I say, Joe Douglas trying to channel his inner John Lynch.
When they traded down, We're still able to get their guy,
because I think of the Jets could trade the two
spot and still get maybe an offensive lineman if they
don't want to go in the direction of franchise quarterback.
There are a lot of guys out there, and as
you know all too well, Smith, I don't think Zach
(22:09):
Wilson will be the ultimate cure all I'm not sure
Sam Donald will be there guy going forward. But why
not figure out how to build a few more chips,
even if it's a guy like Penna Suel, which won't
be that sexy for Jets fans, Or try and figure
out how you could trade down in the top ten
still get your guy and ultimately put yourself in a
better position. Not to win now, because I don't think
that's gonna happen, but going forward, or who knows, maybe
(22:30):
they want to send the number to pick with Sam
Donald and maybe a couple other pieces to Houston acquired
Deshaun Watson, which would obviously change the dynamic of the
franchise overnight. All right, let's get into the fund that
is the n C Double, a men's tournament. We were
talking about some of the cancelations. We've got day basketball,
which is always a beautiful thing, Todd, But outside of
the top three or four two, I mean, how deep
(22:51):
is this field from a betting perspective when you start
running numbers. I think when you look at some of
the numbers, if you want to try and make a
case for the favorite, there are three of them that
are a cut above. At least theoretically, Gonzagger remains unblemished.
And we saw this team at their absolute best when
they scored nearly a hundred points against Virginia. They justed Iowa,
They took care of West Virginia and dominated Kansas in
(23:11):
their season opener. But you always wonder with Mark fuse team,
are they battle tested when you go through the gauntlet
known as the West Coast Conference during January and February
Bayla we've seen shown a little bit of vulnerability. But
who knows how that twenty plus day layoff impacted them.
I think they showed an awful lot battling back against
West Virginia when they weren't at their best to win
that game on the road overtime. And Michigan, Hey, was
(23:32):
that harbinger of things to come with that loss against Illinois,
or was that just the kind of loss that Joan
Howard and Phil Martelly needed to get this team refocused.
But I think it lends itself to a couple of
Big ten teams. Iowa, for me, doesn't play enough defense,
and I have zero trust in fran McCaffrey. But I
think Illinois, Ohio State, or two teams that are rather
intriguing in that thirteen and fifteen range. Illinois we know
(23:53):
has a guard that can take games over in Io Tsumu.
We know he's going to be back as well when
these games start to matter a little bit more. Or
those two teams don't do it for you, maybe you
begin to explore Florida State and what's been a down
year for the a SEC. Leonard Hamilton's has a team
that's extremely athletic. They have a variety of ways that
they can beat you. So that may be a team
to look for. One team that I'm not buying though,
that getting a ton of buzz and maybe even gonna
(24:15):
be considered for a number one seed would be Alabama.
Natoates has done an outstanding job and it started earlier
this year. Obviously calling out coach k but this is
a team that doesn't defend that well and if their
threes aren't falling from the outside, and I don't think
you can rely on that for six games. I'm real skeptical.
I think Alabama could be a team that gets upset
and maybe even fails to reach the Sweet sixteen. You
can follow on Twitter at Todd Ferman. That is at
(24:35):
Todd from an also lead actor on Fox Sports ones
Fox Beat Live, catching Monday through Friday. Todd has always
by the appreciating my friend, We'll talk to you next week.
Always a pleasure. Jensen Joy the weekend. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. This
past week has been the big story of the deteriorating
(24:57):
relationship between the Seahawks and in Russell Wilson. Right every day,
the situation is worse, and we've gone over a lot
of reasons why Russell Wilson wants out. We've talked about
the power struggle between he and Pete Carroll. Who would
you choose, Russell Wilson or Pete Carroll. I would pick
Russell Wilson over Pete Carroll. But there's a reason that
(25:17):
Russell Wilson's gonna get traded that really no one's gotten into.
And and this is really gonna sent it for you
when you hear this, all right, So with this where
things are at with Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson, they
have a decision to make right now. Pete Carroll has
all the power within the Seattle Seahawks. Just the fact
(25:38):
that Russell Wilson had to talk about getting out and
giving a list of teams tells you that he knows,
I'm not going to win a power struggle with Pete Carroll. Right.
He walked out on a team meeting during this season
because what he thought they should do offensively was not
what the coaches wanted to do. They didn't listen to him. Clearly,
Pete Carroll has the hammer right now. Pete Carroll, John
(26:00):
Snider and and John Schneider has all the confidence in
Pete Carroll, right, so he's calling the shots. If Pete
Carroll sticks with Russell Wilson this year, and it's a
bad year for the Seahawks, and it's gonna be a
year where they try to let Russell Wilson do less. Right,
They want to run the football more. He brought in
an offensive coordinator that wants to run the football. Uh.
(26:20):
They want to make Russell Wilson not as integral to
their success. They want to limit his responsibility. If they
have a bad year this year, and if you go
to that, you probably will because why would you take
the ball out of your best player's hands? But whatever, Uh,
if they have a bad year, what happens after this year?
Russell Wilson has all the power because it's c told
(26:43):
you we needed to do this. And after the end
of the season, we're into a spot where it's boy,
if it's Russell Wilson or Pete Carroll a year from
now and you're coming off a bad year, well guess what.
Russell Wilson's gonna win that power struggle and Pete Carroll
is gonna be fired. Right, He will lose his job
with a bad season because everything is now on the
table with Wilson versus Pete Carroll. But right now, Pete
(27:06):
Carroll's got the power, so he knows that if I
don't trade Russell Wilson and things go bad, I'm gonna
get fired. So I'm gonna make sure I trade Russell
Wilson because this is gonna keep me in power right
at the end. Whenever there is controversy at a job,
right whether it's where you or I work or anybody else.
When something happens and there's big time controversy and people
(27:27):
could wind up leaving, what's the first thing that happens.
Everybody says, Oh, I want to help you, but they
want to make sure they take care of themselves, right.
I don't want to lose his job. I don't. I don't.
You know, Hey, I'll help you, but dude, not if
it's not gonna not gonna help me keep my job.
I mean, I'll help you, but you know how, how
could I win? If you win? See what I'm saying.
Ricky was saying, I can't win. So it's all about
self preservation. So people want to do that. Pete Carroll
(27:51):
is about self preservation. If he gets fired, would he
get a job in the NFL right away? Sure he would,
But he doesn't want to get fired. You want to
want to leave Seattle. You don't want to lose his job.
You don't want to get fired. So he will do
what he can to keep that going and to keep
the power and keeping Russell Wilson. It is too risky
this fall that if things go bad, he's gonna wind
up getting fired. So this is why they are motivated,
(28:14):
and this is why they're listening, and this is why
they're picking up the phone, because you wouldn't be doing
this if you weren't gonna trade Russell Wilson. And teams
are not gonna call and try to lowball you. That's
they're not gonna call and say, well, you say three
first round picks, but how about a first round pick
and a fifth. I mean, no, that's not happening. Someone's
gonna give that price for Wilson because he's worth three
first round picks. Maybe you're throwing a player, you give
(28:36):
a quarterback back, whatever it turns out to be. But
this is why the Shark is gonna do it, because
Pete Carroll is motivated to keep his job and to
keep being the voice of the Seattle Seahawks. And he
wouldn't be that if they have a bad year and
a year from now, suddenly it's well, maybe we stick
with Russell Wilson. Goodbye, Pete. It would be a lot
of fun to watch them battle for an entire season
(28:57):
and then if it went wrong, and here's the seas
an ending presser and they're standing up there just pointing
at each other as like, well he he could coach,
and we went into this philosophy that didn't harness the
best of my ability. It's like, well, yeah, you quit
on us, and then they really when it comes to yeah,
(29:17):
I think it just becomes an untenable situation. Uh. It
would be interesting to see that play out, though, Right,
say they do go six and ten and in that division, conceivable, right,
difficult navigation of those six games, assuming San Francisco gets
healthy and can stay healthy. And out here in Los Angeles,
everybody banging the drama for Matt Stafford, lots of detractors,
(29:41):
still a lot of folks saying didn't you watch I know,
my god, Bernie Frattle all the time telling me and
and that's part of the history. You can't take away
the failures of Matt Stafford in Detroit. But new Lease
on life we shall see. But for Russell Wilson, if
it were to go six and ten and and they
went down swinging together, it would make for an interesting argument,
(30:02):
which really is just a year from where we're at now,
where you really should be looking around going why are
we even considering this by Pete Like we've got one
of the five five best quarterbacks. Yeah, we need to
go get him some offensive line help. And by the way,
there's someone should be standing there with a sign for Russell.
If you took a little less money, that left tackle
(30:23):
might be a bit better, or the center or pick one.
We wouldn't have to wait till mid season to see
if these five guys can work together like we do
every other year. Yeah. I mean, look, it's it's there's
so many things at play with this. But when it
comes down to it, if you look at it from
the Seahawks perspective and and of the angle of Pete Carroll,
I mean, oh yeah, of course he wants to move
(30:44):
Russell Wilson, even though it would sound crazy, right, Why
do you want to move Russell Wilson is the best
quarterback you ever had. You've won a Super Bowl, you've
been to two. Had you just run the football, you'd
have two super Bowls. All they say it seems crazy,
but because they've allowed it to get to this point,
they didn't fix it. When Russell Wilson was really upset
when he storms out of a meeting. You gotta fix that, right,
(31:04):
you gotta. I don't care if you're okay he's acting
this way. He's your star quarterback. You have to fix that.
But they didn't. They let it fester, which tells you
what they think of Russell Wilson's opinion on the team
and his impact on the team. So the fact that
they let it go this far to this point, yeah,
you know they want to they want to move him,
and they're motivated, and probably I would say by the
(31:24):
beginning of free agency, maybe a little bit into it,
you're gonna see that move made and we're gonna wake
up one day and it's gonna be Wilson traded to Giants,
Wilson traded to Bronchos, whatever, it's gonna be, Wilson to
the Raiders for three ft. We're gonna wake up one
day and it's gonna happen. It's not gonna be one
of those sources saying we're close, agreement's gonna be bang.
The trade has happened, and here's Russell Wilson. He's gone,
(31:45):
and now everybody is gonna be flipping out and we're
gonna react to it. That's how it's gonna go. And
Russell Wilson will take to social media going, here's a
message from Mr on limmited, I'm gone, and don't be
wearing his shirt and uh rinking some nano bubbles and
celebrating it. But yeah, it's great theater. And the bottom
(32:07):
line is Pete Carroll looking in the mirror. He's got
unlimited power to steal the Mr. Unlimited from Russell Wilson.
I mean they're battling over that, right, you got, you
got Pete Carroll that everybody says just has too much
power and his kids have too much power, and no
even John Schneider won't step in the way. Something's got
to give, and usually it's the coach over the start player,
(32:30):
especially when you're looking at what he's meant for a
decade and still seemingly have five to six seven years
left in that career based on the way he's taking
care of himself. Twitter out, how about a fresco. Mike
gets well, and don't think about the Russell Wilson situation
from there, and you get, oh, wait a minute, this
is happening. Jason Smith, Mike Harmon live from the Farmer's

(33:35):
from the Farmers Insurance Studios. Where tonight we are remembering
a legend. Unfortunately, as Mark Pavlich remember the Miracle on
Ice ninety an Olympic hockey team, was found dead earlier
today at a treatment facility in Minnesota. The cause of
death was not immediately known. Pavlas was sixty three. Um Look,
(33:57):
Miracle on Ice is the biggest sports story of of
our lifetimes and Pavlich was a huge, big time member
the team. Is one of the cone Heads who ran
into a lot of difficulty following his playing career. His
friends and family believed that he had some sort of
CTE from concussions and getting hit in the head and
(34:18):
and uh, it culminated in in a situation a couple
of years ago where he got in a fight with
a person he went ice fishing with. And Pavlich couldn't
really take care of himself anymore, which is why he
was living in a treatment facility. And it's it's a shame,
it's a sad story for him. But to to celebrate
the good things from him, Look, he had a really
(34:38):
good career in the NHL following the miracle on ice
and he had a great five six year run with
the Rangers. He was an undersized center, you know, at
five seven, and boy was he good. And growing up
an Islanders fan, you know, you hated the Rangers. I
hated everybody on the We couldn't stand the Rangers. It
was hard to hate Mark Pavlich because he was such
a good player, and he overcame so much and he
(34:59):
was really really talented, you know, But what people forget
and and don't know so much about Pavlich is that
he was the guy who made the Mike Aruzione goal happen.
You know, the famous, famous play in hockey history, one
of the most famous plays in all of sports, the
Eruzione goal that gave the United States the four three lead.
They went on to beat Russia and whin the gold
(35:20):
medal a couple of days later. Look, it's the biggest
hockey story of our lives. It's the biggest goal in
hockey history. And he makes it happen because you know,
when we see this play, you know, Eruzione gets the
puck right inside of the blue line, he kind of
skates over, he uses the defender as a shield and
and shoots and and and the puck goes by Michkin
into the net. And all the big videos you see
(35:42):
is is of Erusione with the puck, and and the
big video of him with his arms up in the
air and Michkin falling backwards because it goes by him
for a goal. I mean, that's all we remember. But
watch this play and Pavlich makes it happen. He has
the assist on the goal. It's a dump in play
and the puck is on its way out of the
(36:02):
Russia zone and Pavlich beats the Russian forward to the
puck and he's able to get in front of him,
and before he goes flying into the boards, is able
to kind of grab the puck and just kind of
flip it and tip it back because he knew somebody
was coming in on the back side and that was
a Ruzione. And so it's a split second play and
(36:23):
Pavlich is able to get in front of him and
get to the puck and kind of before he turns,
just kind of flip it back to a Rusione and
you see me falls and flies into the boards and
turns around to see the play happen. That is one
of those plays that is about hustle. It's about smarts.
It's knowing where you're going to be and where your
teammates going to be, and if it's a split second later,
that play doesn't happen. Ruzione is not alleged. He's not
(36:45):
making fifty dollars every time he goes to have a
speech and tells a story about the goal. Uh, and
maybe we don't win the gold medal. I mean, clearly
there's a lot with play saying, well, if this doesn't happen,
if this doesn't happen, this play doesn't happen. But Pavlich
makes that play happen with the hustle in the smarts
to make that play and put the bunk where it
needs to go. And that's to a Russione. Yeah, the
big thing, you know, undersize like it's the underdog story,
(37:08):
right five eight, which means he's probably five seven and
uh tenacity and obviously he and her Brooks were tied together.
I mean, his NHL career probably doesn't happen unless Brooks
gives him a shot. So, um, twelve year career, big
big thing. But just remembering how quickly things turn on
a dime with health that if we've learned anything this
(37:30):
past year is another great example. Call your people, reach
out and uh, you know, whole tight and then go
back and watch Miracle again. He's played in there. Uh
he's one of the players that come injured. So go
enjoy it, uh and think about the good you three
uh want to play together on the same line. Yeah, sure, okay,
(37:52):
all right they call him the cone Heads. Why well,
you know, Saturday Ight Live coach now I don't know
what is that. It's the code NETS, that's what they are.
Rest in peace. Mark Pavloch was sixty three years old.
Twitter at how about a Fresca Mike at Swollen Dome

it happen. Trust me, trust me, trust me. Have a
