You're listening to Far Sports, Hey, welcome in, fire enough
(01:04):
to be with you. It's Fox Sports Sunday, Mike Armen
alongside the All American the Legend Love our Arrington what's
going on, my man? How was the desert for the week.
Did you see any spirits? It was amazing? No spirits?
Well I did see spirits, actually a few, quite a few.
I mean, I'm sure if you in in your glass
(01:26):
hanging out. Over the course of the day, I mean,
we had King of the Mammals on Instagram. We got
to follow the food journey. There was some pretty good.
There was some cooking going on. Look like you you know,
found found a little moment of zen to feed yourself. Well,
so that's good since last I saw you, you were,
you know, in the middle of a cleans thing. So
it was good to see you getting back after It
(01:47):
was only eating once a day though, so it was
enjoy the one, you know what I mean. But it
was good. The one was good. That's it. You gotta
make it count good being the idea each and every day.
As we're going through the pan Demick and obviously the
movement across America and a lot of discussions about naming
(02:07):
and monuments and history and folks open in their history
books perhaps for the first time in their lives. So
there's something to be said for that along the way.
But yeah, so many things swirling about that. Every once
in a while you just need to pause and find
center and center. Yeah, I think I could speak for
you based on those photos you put out. Sometimes it's
(02:29):
just getting into the kitchen or I'll buy a grill
and just pausing. All right, we can all get together
around food. That's why the big thing to write like like,
those are the two things that I think are fundamentally
you know, I'll go global, right, but certainly here in
(02:50):
America two very important things, right, the family unit in
terms of coming together for a meal, but then sports
for our community, and right now we're at a at
a disconnect and it dis jointed era for both. I
don't know that. I don't know that we ever get
this join it from food, but coming together as a
family as a food absolutely well. But but the idea
(03:12):
that you can't just go to whatever restaurant you want
without a huge weight or maybe hey it's the limited menu,
but all the stuff I like is xed down. Man,
we can't get its supply chain a distribution issues. So
I don't know it's you to think of it that way.
I haven't. We haven't gone out to eating so long.
(03:34):
But before the pandemic we just didn't go out to eat.
I generally could watch days. Yeah, man, we'll we'll rally
and get the girls can pick one of their greasy
favorites about once a week. We'll get after it. But otherwise, man, look,
this was a week of positivity and and planning starting
(03:54):
to come into shape. And everything changes on a dime.
We know that, and some will still be banging the
drum on the doom and gloom. Others say, put blinders
on and don't look. I think we've taken the nice approach.
Not that it's always the popular thing when you're giving
takes about sports, but the reality is there's a little
(04:15):
bit of column A and column B that you need
to navigate here. Right while you can't retreat and hide
in your home, or most folks can't. So some people
that this is bliss. They don't have to talk to anybody,
that have to deal with anybody. A zoom call while
sitting in their their boxers is all good by them, uh,
and they move on. But for most folks were social beings.
(04:36):
So you want to get out and about, so mask
no mask. Obviously here in California, you know the battles
showing up at Trader Joe's locations and taking over the internet.
I'm sure you saw that video yesterday and the backstory
that goes with that. If you haven't, I'll make sure
to link it out for you at Swollen Dome on Twitter.
(04:57):
But just the idea that the the NBA Final pushed
their schedule forward and Major League Baseball came to an agreement.
We were talking with our guy Vince before we came
on air, our executive producer. He's Washington Nationals fan, and
we had a five minute discussion about the hat on
his head. Yeah, and it's a nice looking curly w hat, right,
I mean he's got the but what is that like
(05:19):
a baby blue thing kind of going on? My my
color separation there isn't that great. So it's almost like
you U n C almost but kind of not. Okay,
that's but this was a Father's Day hat. That Father's
Day hat from the one that they get that means
the one that the players wear. Oh, I thought you
(05:40):
were gonna say it was the good giveaway. My friend
didn't want it, so he threw it in a box. No,
I paid for this one. I shelled out the box
for it. All right, Well, it's a good look at
you see U n C colors. That's pretty I'm a
big fan of it. But the idea that you're able
to celebrate the dawning of a of a new season
(06:01):
lots to work out a lot of logistics. Like we
talked about with everything, right, you coach high school football
and and my daughter's soccer season. They've now got some
ideas of how they're going to be able to do
things while you sit in your car, which is interesting.
H and the kids are on the field and contact
and whatever else, which is interesting because she's not, you know,
in five year old soccer anymore. We're in theory. You
(06:23):
don't want a lot of contact. Man, once you get
into competitive, right, they get after that's the highest highest
rate of concussions. And girls soccer, women soccer, so they
get physical, but you know they're getting the laundry list
of rules. Who are you aware of that? Hi? But
(06:43):
I love it. I think watching watching young ladies and
ladies obviously I'm I'm a daddy daughter, you know, daddy
daughter or whatever dad of daughters. There you go, Well
you could have done the hashtag girl dad we go,
there we go, girl dad. Um, So I've seen it.
I've seen how athletic they are, how crafty they are.
(07:04):
But what's even what's even more interesting is how um
physical girls get when they're they're playing sports, especially soccer,
and well it's funny ross and and it hits that
point though, right where with my daughter is going to
turn twelve this week, so in early happy birthday, will
figure out how that's birthday together? What's our day? Shut up?
(07:26):
We we did. We did come to that concluding yeah, yeah, wow,
good date for your daughter. Man, no question of the
best days ever to be born on born day, well
born day. Yeah, we'll harass you online in a couple
of days too. But the idea of being being that
this is generally the breakoff points for boys and girls
(07:49):
right eleven, twelve, thirteen years old, where it's like, you
know what, it's hit a level that I'm not wanting
commitment physically, I can't I don't want to do it.
I can't do it. However, whatever, you're right right, there's
a there's a bunch of those elements, and we're seeing
that with a bunch of you're about to hit high school,
you're getting to that point of where it's not totally
(08:10):
youth anymore, you're hitting towards high school, and high school
seems to like hit people differently for some reason. I
don't I don't know why, but it's like I'm just
gonna focus in on school, like not not really concerned
about playing this sport. Well, I may try this sport,
but this one. And then you get just classic burnouts.
(08:30):
You know where you got. You got helicopter moms or dads,
and they're trying to live their athletic career and their
their life career through their kids, and they push them
and they push them over the edge. And by the
time you get to that eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen range, Uh,
you're burnt out. They're just they're just burnt out. Don't
(08:51):
want to deal with it. Yeah, we we've certainly had
enough of the sideline conversation about scholarships, Like they're ten,
they're eleven, what do we do? But it's a reality,
and certainly you're hoping you've got a winning lottery ticket
on the on the pitch, there's no question about it.
But it's certainly uh, as you well know, coaching high school,
(09:12):
it leads to a lot of irrational behavior and discussions
along the way, but you know, we're we're getting to
that point where decisions are being made. And for the NBA,
they gave us the release of the schedule of OAR
and and lo and behold, look what we got on
day one. We got the the Jazz, the poster children
(09:33):
for the COVID nineteen as related to sports against Zion Williamson.
And then we get the battle for l A as
they get to tip off as a season opener for
the second time this year, and the way the numbers
all run and Dan Buyer and I talked about this
a little on Friday night. Lavre the uh well that
they had to make that the first game because one
(09:55):
interest to the Lakers can pretty much wrap things up
and be done with the grind, as it were. So
there's that that element of it of all right, maybe
you've got a little bit of coast here, so it's
good and bad for the NBA in that regard the
big blast, and then maybe you've got operations shut down
for a little while. I hate to admit this, I'm
(10:19):
more interested and seeing if they can get through it.
That's my biggest interest. Like I can look at the
matchups like, oh, it's a great matchup. Oh, this one
looks interesting. Ought to be great to see if this
guy is still in shape outa dig ken Zion continue
to come on, he only played a little bit, Lebron
(10:39):
you know you got Yeah, I mean you've got so
many different different storylines guys that aren't playing that won't
contribute the strong quotes that come from guys like k D,
Kevin Durant and all those guys that you know basically
are saying, even if I were healthy enough or could go,
I'm not going. It's just as strong. Does that come
(11:00):
off to you though? I think for Kevin Durant, I mean,
he's in the I can't lose position by saying that, right,
because there's no chance he was gonna play. So like saying,
I'm making this big powerful statements like no, you're not
come on. All I know is even with that being said,
I'm not even looking at the big power statement of
(11:21):
why he's not playing. I'm just more so looking at
the gauntlet that the NBA is trying to run through
to complete the season. Yeah, that's really really to me.
If I'm the n b A I leaned all the
way into it. Why not, because that's what's gonna interest everyone?
All right, there's gonna be there's gonna be the segment
(11:42):
of people that are looking at it to see what
are the players going to do to protests. You're gonna
have the segment of people that want to see sports
and they just want to see basketball, they don't care
about all the other stuff. Then you're gonna have other
people who are are basically like can they make it through?
Like I fall in the category or of all of
it will be major entertainment. It's going to create major storylines.
(12:06):
This guy didn't do enough to protest before the game.
It's gonna be a major storyline. Why because we're just
now starting to get live sports back. So there's so
many different storylines that are going to play out that
the NBA actually can leverage to their to their advantage.
But for me, I'm watching like, okay, how many COVID cases?
(12:31):
All right, what are you gonna do? How are you
going to get through it? If this guy gets it
and you're in you know, the playoffs and you're you
got one game to go before you can win. But
it's the main guy that goes down with COVID, Like,
does that change the complexity of, uh, what's going to
(12:53):
happen during the course of the series. Like it's almost
like some real live running man. And I'm just being
honest with you. I kind of like it. I kind
of like it. Like absolutely, there's so many permutations to this.
This isn't a hey, a guy twists a knee situation,
(13:14):
and that very well could happen. But it's not just
injury that we're focused on. Here. We've got all the
nightlife and what guys do in their off time, which
how are they going to have a nightlife? But but
that's the question, right, what do we learn they They
got to be in that bubble for seven weeks? Man.
But if you're the brand managers of the NBA, it's
(13:35):
the most delicious of theaters. You've got one white board
over here of all the opportunities, and over here you
got one that's twice as big with all the potential
risk and all the different All right, if this happens,
it's spiders out in this giant web of This is
how we have to react to the circumstances. You get
(13:56):
or if you have it, you have to be in
your room for ten days. Ten days. That's a lot
of Lilo and Stitch Man. Man, let me tell you something.
The world couldn't hold me down to be in my
hotel room. The world couldn't hold me down, Not LaVar Arrington,
not for ten days, ten days straight, an entire seven days,
(14:19):
and then half of a week, or just less than
half of a week, of course, but the first third,
for the first three days of a week. I gotta
be in this room that long. No. Yeah, I've been
running hard since college. I could probably stand to tap
out for a week and a half. I'm an introvert.
I'm introverted like I enjoy being in my my home.
(14:42):
But being in my home consists of different rooms, different
places I can walk to. I'll tell you this. If
the room that I'm quarantined to is like a small apartment,
I'll be all right. But if it's like one of
them little box room, because you're you're assumed. I've never
really seen too many nice rooms on on Disney campus.
(15:07):
They're very they're very dorm room like. I'd be curious.
I mean, at the bigger resorts, if they haven't spent
a lot there, if they're at regular like if they
have regular hotel capabilities. But even then you don't. You
only have a few people that are gonna have those
those sweets, those sweets where you got two bed rooms
(15:29):
on this side, you've got a whole living area. Then
you have another side with with king like you could
get master sweets. Oh, you know that's a new thing.
Using the word master with with with different Like if
you say a master bed room or master sweet. You
know that's like a new thing, like it's historically speaking,
(15:49):
you're now you're not supposed to say master. It's done.
It's like sweet, I gotta I gotta get used to
saying the big room. So if you get like the
big the big room, I could stay in there. But
if you if you put me in just a regor,
if I'm in just a regular you know room, a
regular hotel room for ten days. Man, please figure out
(16:12):
all the creature coming from. That's part of the other thing.
What's what's your amenities box? When you get in the
door and all the security there, there's gonna be security.
It's like it's gonna be like the door. They're gonna
be standing at the door. If you try to come
out of the door with COVID like you're quarantined. You
gotta go back in there. Man, I'm opening that door up,
and I'll be like, it's either gonna be you or me,
(16:33):
and if it's you, you're gonna be locked in this room. Yeah.
I was watching a little grays Anatomy kind of catching
up because my older daughter that's your thing, and they
had a few episodes where guys had to be quarantined.
Tell you what, um, I would not want to have
LaVar Arrington on the other side of that door, not
deciding that he's done eight seven days seven. It might
(16:56):
be it might be some valance man. Seriously, Well, one
of the consistent things we'll talk about throughout the show.
It is a continuing ebb and flow of information as
the leagues get started. But momentum, right, we'll talk about
the NFL and where they're at and things because they
made their decisions for Hall of Fame week, but momentum
(17:17):
rolling through and at least some plans in place. Now.
We gotta still be smart and take care of ourselves
and each other as we get out and about, but
certainly opportunities to do so are there, and you know,
just take care of each other. I know a big

in It's Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Sunday, Mike Carmen
alongside the All American lavarre. Okay, all right, having some
fun with you here as we get things warmed up.
I got the coffee starting to course through the body,
A couple of soccer matches rolling on the pitch here,
caffeine in the vain. Every once in a while, I
(20:13):
keep looking for that I V hook up of a
caffeine injection system. And then I say, you know what,
I'm okay without that, because I think I'll do all
right what I think. I'll just keep the coffee pot
rolling like I kicked the coffee pot on the pot
am I starting to drift back into Chicago, A little
bit bath, a little bit of uh that, a bit
(20:38):
of kabata. Just did you see the story of the
week out of you? Gotta though the j Cutler, Oh man,
they're that they're going after his chickens. So now they're
trying to figure out and we're all lobbying. I'd pay
into a go fund yourself account to have that made
Jay Cutler the farmer and you know, the in private
(21:01):
investigation of who's taking his chickens. Man, it's funny because
he's trending on Twitter and this video goes viral and
I go, hey, you know what the last one to
trend with Jay Cutler was, And people like what It's
like he's high school mix tape off the basketball court,
run around dunking on fools, which is kind of fun.
Jay Cutler is like one of the most interesting dudes,
(21:25):
no facial expressions, could play football, had a good career,
Mary's a reality TV star as pretty decent. Marriage produces
some kids that goes awry. It's like always you know
what he is. He's like kind of like a great contrast.
(21:49):
He's like a total polar opposite within himself, which is weird. Well,
it definitely a different cat. I mean when we look
at you know, for us much criticism as he got
in the sports media world, you've never heard of teammates
saying ill word about Jake. Cutler made most pretty much
to a man, they defend him. Now there's guys that
(22:11):
like Kyle Orton more than him, because Kyle Orton was
more verbal than than Cutler was. But he's the best
quarterback I've had in Chicago. Man, I'm not hanging my
hat on Kyle Orton. I'm sorry. I know he's a
big tenor. But I'm not Boilers. Yeah, I'm not hanging
my hat on him for certain. He had a good run, though,
(22:33):
I'm talking about a guy that had a pretty good
career with numerous resurrections. Hell, he's the NFL equivalent of
the Undertaker. Just when you think he's done gone, he
pops back up in another. That's Nick Foles to me.
Yeah no, Well, now he's in Chicago to all my
life circle exactly. Hey, although we're a part these days,
(22:54):
we're sharing more. A guy goes sharing more too with
the guy go give back. It's credit on car motorcycles
policies for both current and new customers, and it at
lasts your full policy term. Theres a Geico dot com
slash giveback for info and eligibility. Now as we turn
our attention talking about college sports right where everybody's trying
(23:16):
to figure out where the dollars flow and how this
the season is gonna play out, and we we've got
more on our initial opening salvo to the show coming up.
But under Armour looking to break it's fifteen year, two
eighty million dollar contract with U C l A Companies,
saying in a statement on Saturday, under Armour has recently
(23:36):
made the difficult decision to discontinue our partnership with U
c l A. As we've been paying from marketing benefits
that we have not received for an extended time period.
The agreement allows us to terminate in such an event,
and we're exercising that right. So that was May when
they reached. The deal went into effect July, and it
(23:56):
was a huge deal. And you're trying to get a
flagship out here around the West coast, thinking that U
c l A would rise again, you know, the basketball program,
the storied basketball program, would find its heights again, and
that the college football program that has had some blips
and big moments in its history, would become a more
(24:18):
consistent perhaps power. As you roll and let's face it,
your stock flying high, you're looking to spend some money
and you say, all right, where do we not have
a huge stronghold while you come here while the stock
is now down inside of ten dollars. Uh, So you've
lost a lot of your market cap along the way.
(24:38):
But he's kind of deals man that that fifteen years
to eighty It sounds huge, but break it down per year,
that's not nearly as it is a big deal. There's
no question. It's the richest deal in the history of
college athletics. I was a part of the deal. I
was involved. I was helping facilitate. You've got a big
(25:00):
on your faces because I know the insides of this
whole thing, and it's pretty interesting because I don't want
to get myself into any leaguer. But but what I
will say is it was the largest deal done. I
think it still remains the largest deal done in college
sports history. Yeah, as of September nineteenth, they're saying it
(25:20):
still was. That's Forbes in question. It's always what's the
real number versus what's reported in some of these real
or not. It's still that's still the number. Like it
could be based in you know, advertising, it could be
based in and product, it could be based in you know, money.
(25:41):
But that's the largest number, I think. Uh, who are
the other There are a couple I can't remember. Michigan
was like number three or four or something like that.
But I mean, if you're gonna if you're going to
bet your if you're gonna bet your barn, bet your house,
bet the whole thing on on a sports athletic program,
(26:08):
I know we're in l A. But man, is you
ce l A. Is U c l A the school
to do it? Ohio States one of them? I think
Ohio State is one of them from Nike. So yeah,
So you had U c l A at about thirteen
million dollars a year annual value. Uh and then Louisville
(26:29):
with Adidas was second at ten point six. That's crazy,
but it's not crazy when you think about how good
their basketball team is. Perennial they got not Patino? Is
it Petina? No? No Caliperi? Yeah, it's Petino Louisville. Is
he still there? But Louisville is still good in basketball?
When they did that deal? Was was Patino still there?
(26:51):
I wonder they're basketball? Yeah, I would have been before
his you know, eventual oust snack as well. Yeah, but
you did say, what what was the word Adidas? Was
that Adidas that did that? Yeah? Yeah, then it was Patino?
It was basketball? Is what will say? I like that?
Like the way you smiled as you said yeah that
(27:13):
it was Patina. It's like all the inside in brain,
there's just there's just a lot connected to Adidas and basketball. Now,
you know, there's still a lot of lawsuits flying flying
around when you start thinking about the component and listen,
under Armour was trying to double down and triple down
because U c l A has fine sports across the board.
(27:37):
They have volleyball, their their perennials and contenders, and that
they have uh, you know football obviously, they're pretty decent
in football, decent enough um and they have had basketball
men and women so um and I'm sure there's a
couple of other sports that I'm missing that that have
been considered to be very um you know, critical critical
(28:01):
sports at the school for them to get that type
of a deal. But make no mistake about it, this
was football driven at u c l A. That deal
was football driven and it was driven through football. But
they knew they were going to be able to get
ahold of basketball, which a lot of people knew that
that was a very shiny coin to have at the
(28:22):
time of doing that deal was we're going through football,
We're going after football. We want football, but we definitely
want to have an opportunity to to put under Armour
on u c l A super historical um basketball program.
We want to have that opportunity now where they find
(28:44):
themselves right now Mike to me, U c l A
has been under performing in terms of the amount of
money they're spending versus the amount of money that they're generating.
I mean there's a deficit. They're not even they're not
even operating in the red there or excuse me, in
the black. I should say, Um, it's not good. It's
(29:08):
not good. The results that they're they're receiving. The basketball
team is they're okay. The football team has vastly under underachieved.
You bring in a big name, big money um coaching
staff with a head coach that is a very very
high profile guy in Chip Kelly, and he you know,
(29:28):
it's coming out more and more about how people feel
about him, the kids more specifically, and it has not
been glowing. And and so now you're in a situation
where you're in you're in flux with your your head
football coach who was the biggest figure on the campus,
and it looks as though, you know, with all the
(29:50):
guaranteed money, it's the only reason why he still has
his his gig there. And so now if you're looking
at all the other sports do they bring in, is
there enough of a gen rating of revenue that that
justifies everything else, and the answer is unequivocally no. So
it's just it's interesting. Part of me wants to say
(30:12):
under Armour is in a really really which they are.
I think I believe they're in a really really bad
space in terms of trying to stabilize the company and
figure out where they're going. The stock is worth one
third um. But with that being said, I don't know
that this is a isn't a smart business move if
(30:35):
it doesn't look like it's getting better and you have
clauses that say you can you can poison piel this
this contract if you're not doing performing at the level
you're supposed to perform at being connected to a deal
that's so high. You know, I don't know that this
is a bad, bad situation. It'd be easy to palle
on on under Armour over this, but I don't know
(30:57):
that this is a palable offense. To be honest, Yeah,
I think it's the curiosity. What the devil in the details?
You know more about the intricacies of the contract, but
in terms of how things got started to framework framework,
that's what I mean. So you at least have you've
got some informed uh information, You know that they look,
I'm not looking to get you run up by h
(31:20):
Martin Germond uh and the u c l A brass
right now outgoing Dan Guerrero. So like, as Dan Guerrero
leaves the post, right, here's just another crisis. Because as
we talk about the economics of college sports being what
they are, you're already hemorrhaging money when you're not winning.
What happens the alumni dollars dry up, and that was
(31:41):
happening pre pandemic. Well, you've already seen some issues in
that regard. So now you you go through the I'd
love to go through the contract. This is where I
have a lot of fun trying to figure out how
the the clauses get interpreted. And then you try to
go into the legal lease and then it becomes a
let's face it, this will be a buyout situation. Before
(32:02):
it's all said done with what's left on that deal,
He's like, all right, Penny's on the dollar and then
we get to walk away. But certainly, if you're in
one of the other camps, if you're in Nike or Adidas,
in between your own legal um tanglings, you're also trying
to figure out all right, what's the cost of that contract,
what's the future value of that that type of contract
(32:26):
to get in on U c l A. Because you
may be able to do so for a song based
on some a little bit of desperation as you roll through.
So we certainly have that as we go. As we
go to trending, I'm gonna blow Mike Harmon's mind. And
then when we come out of trending, We'll take a
couple of minutes to talk about what I'm doing with
you right now. Well, that's a nice tease. Why don't
(32:46):
we talk to what I'm doing with you right now? Tease?
That's that's interesting. Let's go to trend that. That was
a good teaser. Hello, what's going on in the Greater
Sporting Universe? Body? Good morning, Michael, Good morning LaVar. That
is a fascinating He's indeed looking forward to hearing about that,
and we'll also hear about Seam's Toranio's report on Saturday
(33:06):
night that the NBA and the Players Association are planning
to allow players to replace the last name on their
jerseys with personalized statements on social justice upon the resumption
of the season one month from now. In the Orlando
Bubble or am I as I'm calling it the NBA
O Sphere Golf. After three rounds of the Travelers Championship,
(33:28):
Brendan Todd has the lead at eighteen under par overall.
Dustin Johnson in second place. He's two back at sixteen
under par overall. Phil Mickelson had the lead after two
rounds going into Saturday, but he's now six shots off
the lead. He shot a one over seventy one on Saturday.
Todd and Johnson will be the final pairing. They will
tee off the final round today at two oh five Eastern.
(33:50):
And finally we have a live sports to talk about
on this Sunday morning. It's the f A Cup quarterfinal
in the Premier League where Arsenal as a one nothing
lead over Sheffield United. There now in the seventy fifth minute,
time to pay off that tea is here's Michael on
the bar. What do you call it? Tease? And that's
(34:11):
what you call some some behind the scenes magic. That's
Isaac on the on the update. The way to do it.
I we weren't really listening to you because we were
sitting here like doing something like, yeah, we had our
tin foil caps on just now you know what I mean. Well,
that's too bad because I gave out my credit card numbers.
(34:33):
It's your loss. I think I'm gonna be all right,
but I think you will be too. I'm gonna check
the magical power of tape because I mean, we we
have to record for you know, future performance evaluations, so
that number is there in the air everywhere. What's the
name of that show, Tinfoil hats? Why am I tripping
(34:53):
out like you going to the XOX? Thank you? Jeez?
Why am I right? I think the CT is kicking in. Man,
that's a pretty good signed this piece of paper that
I wrote out and brought in special for that guy
of situation. I gotta try to keep it strong here. Man,
that's pretty good approximation of the theme song. Just now.
Which one of you two was whistling that? I think
(35:16):
we both did it. Yeah, I did it first. I
was like, da I whistling getting better? Yeah? I was.
He probably did it. With one tidbit about that show,
Agent Scully named after Bevince Scully. Yeah, the creator was
a huge Vince Scully fan. Named Agent Dana Scully after
Vin Scully. How about that? I gotta go back through
now and see how many times she used the word
(35:37):
cerulean over the course of the interesting. That's one for
for Ilo and any Dodger fans up early on a
Sunday morning. Uh, we'll pay off that tease coming up
next as well as Chris Godwin in the news a
little bit because he said, hey, man giving up number twelve,
that was hard while in his quarterback being under fire
(35:59):
from s as well. We'll get into that coming up
next year as we come to alive from the guy.
Go Fox Sports Radio Studios. Easy to say or more

is Fox Sports Radio. Really thought LaVar was gonna try
to hit that scream like alongside LaVar Arrington having some
(38:11):
fun with you. A lot of big topics up on
the board, and the imminent return of sports. As we
get ready to turn the calendar into July, baseball teams
will find their ways to the respective home facilities. I
think that would be cool if you could win some
sort of charity auction to be one of the people
(38:34):
in attendance for a workout at Yankee Stadium or something
to that. I mean, there's look, man, I the wheels
keep spinning, just like you try to put people together
and make big things happen. I mean, that's what it's
all about. As we roll through, we've got Chris. God
will get to him in a moment. We've gotta pay
off the tease really quickly. As LaVar said instrumental in
(38:56):
uh the early formation of the under armor in U
C A l U C l A deal, I was
not a selling of chip Kelly that he that did
it for him. But just from a brand management perspective,
opportunities and the West Coast like U C. L A.
What do they call themselves the home of Champions, right,
(39:17):
And we talked about all the different titles and sports.
Unfortunately football and basketball are your biggest drivers. It's pretty
interesting to sit there and read what I just showed.
You know, that's there's no question about it. But you know,
I gotta I gotta keep it. I know you want.
I know you want to stay It's like we want
to stay clean hair. We don't want to getting the muck. Yeah,
you gotta stay out of them. But when when I
tell you, people, when you're listening to what we were
(39:40):
saying during that segment, when I tell you I am
pretty pretty learn it. I'm doubt into what happened in
the beginning stages of it. Now what happened after that,
I don't know. But just just you know a lot
of times people give lip service. Oh you know, I
was such and such for Michael Jackson. I used to
(40:01):
take him and get him his patent leather shoes and
his glittery, uh shiny socks. You know what I mean?
That also starts to open up a whole other world
of questions if you start talking about that. Well, I'm
just saying in general, you're right there. I thought it
was funny. Yeah, an example, I like the spark Yeah right,
I used to wear them in church. Is funny with
(40:22):
patent leather shoes. Anyways. Uh, well, we'll get more into
the world of Little of Our lane. But sometimes people
say things that they feel are cool to say to others.
And I'm on the air, so I was like, oh,
I was really close to the deal. You know, I
was with under Armour. I represented under Armour, one of
the first athletes that represent under Armed Data Data. Then.
(40:42):
But to show you how really involved I was with it, Yeah,
Baltimore d C brand for those unaware, right, that's that
I was a DC football player, DC guy. So the uh, yeah,
you've got receipts. Let's just put it that way. Yes,
I do, for those out there. So now you're intrigued
and you're leaning into your listening device just a little
(41:05):
bit more. Everybody wants to know what the receipts are.
IM telling you. All right, we got we got a
couple of minutes to get to Chris Godwin but to
close out the u c l A Under Armour part
for now, when we talk about that size of the deal, right, well,
we'll get into courts and they'll come to an agreement
(41:26):
and they'll walk away, and then it's it's just fighting
for the details right now in terms of where that is.
As you've got a new A D coming in and yes,
under Armour. As all apparel companies, right, Nike reporting that
they're losing you know, their sales are off a huge
amount because they've gotta be careful in terms of losing
money versus sales being off. Right, that's one of the tricks,
(41:48):
uh and the devil in the details with the baseball
deal right of are you losing money or you lower run? Right,
there's two different things and two different discussions, but when
it comes down to it, you haven't achieved in the
money sports as expected. We look at some of the
other heavyweights as far as sports contracts go. You're looking
at the basketball school as you're looking at Kansas, UM
(42:11):
is one of those that's up there too in Kentucky.
Uh And and we talked about Michigan a little bit
as well. So it's an opportunity for one of the
other brands maybe to buy on the on the cheap
right now, a little bit of a distressed property thing
going on. Certainly this is this is probably a bigger
deal to lose for U c l A than it
(42:34):
is for under Armor. You got to think about what
are the implications for for U c l A moving forward. Yeah,
I mean from a budget standpoint, we've we've heard it.
I mean we're here in southern California. You've heard it
from a lot of the educational institutions of where they're
operating in the red with with this money still flowing
(42:55):
to which is crazy, Like you lose that type of
a contract and you're already operating in the rid with
that contract. You do that math like they're gonna be
hiring somebody from youth football, somebody from a basketball You
want to talk about getting your first shot as a
as a coach, I mean, you got opportunity may be there.
(43:16):
You gotta believe anybody who's high, high paid, that's the
coach like chip with all like that. If that deal
goes away, though, those guys are going to go away.
They're on notice immediately, trickle down effect, no question about
so Chris Godwin we knew had more number twelve for
as long as he can remember that we wanted discussion
about what he was going to do with his number.
As Tom Brady came to Tampa, he finally opened up
(43:39):
a little bit about the process. I've been wearing it
since high school and it meant a lot to me,
and it first it bothered me a little bit, kind
of like getting mad at me, getting at me because
it's part of my identity. But when the goat comes calling,
you kind of concede to him. In other words, you're
gonna get an extra ten or fifteen balls throwing your way.
Give me the number. Yeah, man, that's pretty easy choice.
(44:01):
I really wanted to say, don't worry about the number.
Numbers aren't that big of a deal, but I would
be lying, well, I mean, they are different things. It's
funny because we've seen the our our friends at Fox,
they've had the hey, who wore it best? This number
and you can do it from the pro side and
(44:21):
the collegiate side or whatever, And eleven came up and
there's a list of guys like, really, yeah, we're having
a debate and this isn't me, you know, you know,
going to the posterior here. This is just calling it
what it is. And you know we remember one number eleven.
Uh there. We We can talk about it from the
pros perspective all over the place and run around, but
(44:42):
you know, when you get to college, man, it is
what it is. And Chris Godwin is a guy that's
still on the come, still on the come. So you
want to have that relationship right and and that continuity.
But certainly, as we understand, everything is a bit off
this year. That's a part of your story. And Tom
Brady cogs the next story correct coming out next we
(45:05):
get back into the NBA. You're listening to Fox Sports,
all those off air discussions, hot takes and hot news
being passed about here early on a Sunday morning wherever
you are having a cup of coffee getting ready for
your online services. Maybe you got a ticket to your
(45:25):
local parish. I know that's been kind of a thing
that's going on because you can only bring in fifty
or a hundred people and such, so maybe your this
is your week to go wherever you are. We appreciate
you coming on board with us here and giving us
a few minutes of your time as you go through
your entertainment options, entertainment information. That's what we do. And
Mike Harmon alongside the all American LaVar Arrington is we're
(45:48):
rolling along here. You were hiding in the desert for
a few days, which is a good thing, you know,
going out and now there's nothing wrong with that. Still
doing your television work for Fox Sports one, still was
doing TV there. It was a good setup. Look, thank you,
thank you. I like that. I'll just try to do
what I could do. Man, well, I still want to contribute.
(46:10):
You don't want to have your voice heard and a
want to tap out all together and totally disconnected. Oh no,
I mean because look right now, we're momentum. You know,
he had a big he had a big, big, big
opportunity as we we look at the well, the shifting
(46:30):
sands of media. That was one of our off air conversations.
I think we'll leave it there for now. Some some
big investigations and more more fire, I think, as in
the sports media world. But Emmanuel Acho, uh, the uncomfortable
conversations with a black Man series that he has started. Uh.
(46:52):
The episode with Matthew McConaughey went deep and that was
a full hour and discussions but he comes on Speak
for Your your Self Now and and the well new
era of that right, different different things rolling on. Obviously,
Jason Whitlock leaves that show. He's now part of out
(47:12):
Kick with Clay Travis. So a little bit of a
dance and obviously over the next couple of months we'll
see more shuffling, I'm sure as well. Sports Back Together
isn't going to be in backstage. Yeah, so you know
programming notes that that came out right, and not to
get too inside business, but yeah, they got some of
(47:33):
the programming and shifted some of the programming and w
W what's we don't go in the studio now anyway,
I haven't been in studio, but going in there I enjoy.
I got. I built a really cool relationship with book
or t. We we got pretty tight. So so what
you're saying is one of these weeks we're gonna wake
him up and and have him spill some here. Yeah.
(47:58):
I think that's yeah, it sounds good to me. No, no, no, no,
we got Yeah, we gotta have a raw because you
know both of us. The road to swoll is a
real thing. At King of the Mammals is where you
find LaVar on Instagram or at LaVar Arrington on Twitter
and find me over at Swollen Dome as you roll
(48:20):
through there. Now, as we look at the landscape, we
talked about the NBA putting out their schedule. We don't
have the full MLB schedule yet, but we know Vince's
Nationals and the Yankees are scheduled to to get things
started on an opening day, so they'll start reporting to
their respective facilities this week. So momentum starts to roll
(48:42):
and and obviously it's against the backdrop of rising COVID
positive tests. And then we we go through the data
trying to figure out what it means, and people ascribing
their own thoughts, some with medical degrees, many without, trying
to figure out exactly what the The next phase of
things is fights mask, no mask, and everything's gotten politicized.
(49:06):
There's no just let's have a calm, rational discussion on
any of this anymore. But sports is trying to come back,
and our job here at Fox Sports Radios to apprise
you of the situations, add a little bit of evaluation
of the plans as they've been laid out, and and
roll from there. And certainly for the NBA, the Bubble
City is is one of great curiosity for us in
(49:29):
sports as to how this is going to be executed
at the Walt Disney World resorts and and the you know,
sports and entertainment complex that you have there in terms
of the rooms, in terms of how long players are there,
because you know, the hard part is everybody tries to
put it into the three or four month bubble scenario.
Most of the teams aren't there for all of that time.
(49:51):
So when whenever we do that as like you're gonna
sequest for all of these people for you know, four months,
like well know, many of them are gonna play their
eight games and a bunch of those teams go home
right away. And then we'll go through the playoffs and
then we'll have grand ceremonies like they've been voted off
of Survivor and they'll leave too, and then we go
to Highlander rules. And while there can be only one
(50:13):
but a lot of yeah, while while on Survivor, Allen
try not to get COVID well, and that's the thing,
right In terms of testing coming in, I just I'm
expecting a delivery tomorrow of my you know, forehead reading thermometer.
Talk about testing and the protocols that rolled through. But
(50:36):
another wrinkle to the bubble, and part of this is
the deep discussions between the Players Association and the NBA,
is that they're planning to allow, through a deal with
Nike as well, allow social justice statements on their jerseys.
Now we've seen Black Lives Matter show up on the
soccer pitch in the UK, and now that'll get to
(50:58):
extend here. It'll be curious to see how personalized the
messages could be. But if someone doesn't want to do
a social justice statement and something else, like, where's the
line gonna be drawn? I I this is gotta be
a pretty tense back and forth. Like good in theory there,
I think as long as it doesn't incite vallence riot
(51:20):
of any sort, if it's not um terroristic and in
nature threatening in any in which some people probably just
that there and say, LaVar you know, threatening could be
up for interpretation, and you're right. But I think if
you you know, if you have the names of the victims,
if you have you know Black Lives matter, if you
(51:42):
you know things that are supportive that are drawing attention
to injustice, don't don't try to create injustice or or
battle injustice with more injustice. Well, and and that's the
I think the the difficult line here. But I don't
think it's that difficult. I don't. I don't think that
(52:03):
they will. I don't think that the messages and the
branding of what will take place with these guys will
be distasteful. Oh. I don't think it will either. Except you.
You'll always have your percentage no matter what you're gonna do,
that's all. And it's just a matter of how loud
and what kind of unrest flows from that. You Know.
(52:24):
What's interesting is it's like this is such a small
conversation in terms of conversating about what the NBA is
going to do, but it's like the biggest conversation for
the National Football League. Yeah, it's kind of weird, right,
It's like, Oh, what are they going to do pregame? Dada, da?
Where they're going to wear T shirts? Dada. There's no
(52:46):
discussions about taking knees, there's no discussions about the anthem,
there's no there's no discussions about anything as it applies
to the amount of outrage that is generally connected to
what the NFL is dealing with with the protests. The
silent protests before games. Yeah, so we know the National
Women's Soccer League they all took knees on their first
(53:10):
day of competition as that gets underway. But for you,
you're right with the NFL a little bit about the
Hall of Fame game. Right, But goes back to and
we've talked about this a bunch and and certainly Jason
Smith and I have on our weeknight show, and I
know you are yourself is the discussion point of how
(53:33):
many times the NFL and ham handed tried to do
patchwork applications to larger issues. Right, go back to we
we talked about Ray Rice and the importance of videotape
kind of again tying directly to how we see things
play out, you know, on our televisions, and why George
(53:57):
Floyd is such a big Right, it's one thing for
here's an account of what happened, but here maybe a
still picture or whatever, but no, you've got eight minutes
seconds to see the man's face just so casual. And
it just really the way they scooped him up off
of the ground and took him away like this happens
(54:17):
all like it was just a normal deal. But right,
you get video to it, and it changes. And certainly
the NFL, we can't say they always operated with a
knowledge of what was really going on in a lot
of cases as they tried to adjudicate the personal conduct
policy that they were putting in. Honestly believe that their
(54:40):
opinions and their beliefs have not changed. I honestly believe that.
I think they have to pay more attention to it
because their clientele is seeing it and and are reacting
to it and feeling of a really really strongly way
about it. But the people, you know, maybe some may
(55:02):
feel a little different. But ultimately I just feel like
a lot of times people's realities are only altered through
some of the most traumatic or or you know, drama associated.
This is not really drama associated to the people that
are making decisions for the National Football League or any
sport at that matter. So to get on board for
(55:26):
Roger Goodell to get on board, for you know, other
sports to fall in line and say, you know, we're
supportive now and we should have listened and we should
have been more supportive, like you're saying, Mike, Like they knew,
they knew, they understood, but now you're in a position
where you can't. You just can't deny it. You you cannot.
(55:50):
You can no longer be credible if you're speaking on
these type of topics or you're condemning what one person
or a few people are doing to protest um. You
can't just say, well, you know what, it's not really
about turning a blind eye to it. But there's a
proper place and there's a proper time, So don't bring uh,
(56:13):
you know, peaceful protesting. Don't don't bring all of those
issues to the playing field. And that would have been
that has been the most sensible approach by a lot
of people. They have felt this is a very sensible
approach to say, you know what, all of these things matter,
Black lives matter, the things that you're saying, the reform,
(56:37):
all these things matter. But there's a time and a place.
Why are you trying to do it now? Right? But
you can't do that now, You can't do it. No.
The temperature is certainly reason here. And I mean just
go back to Goodell's statement right released the day after
the players put their video together with a lot of
superstars and the face of the league right now Patrick
(56:59):
Holmes front from the center, and he did a verbatim
reading of what they asked the NFL to do, which
was an uncomfortable video to watch because it didn't feel genuine.
It's like, all right, this is what you demanded, so
that's what we gotta do. And whether it's genuine or not,
at least you're doing it. But you're pushing forward. And
(57:20):
then that's the thing. And then, and that's what I'm saying.
I don't think a lot of what people are going
to feel and and that are allowing the participation of
these things to take place, they're not going to feel
differently about what's taking place. It's more of a necessity.
And I don't want to generalize, you know, I mean,
(57:41):
but but what I will say is is that a
lot of times people will use the phrase mock outrage.
A lot of times people will say when it comes
down to the nuts and bolts of all of this,
when you're looking at the business side of this, when
you're looking at the generalities and everyday operation of all
of these things that take place, and what matters, you
(58:04):
know that that that woman that works at the facility,
that that man that that works at the stadium. You know,
the person that cuts the grass or or is handling
you know, the duties of what's going on in the
locker room. A lot of things are being handled on
a business level. And when you're handling things on a
(58:27):
business level, generally speaking, a lot of times I may
know your name, but that's really it. That's really it.
So and and these owners, you know, and they're bubbles
of that because they're wealthy enough to have their own
bubbles in life. They're not being hit with those things.
They're not they're not experiencing the outrage. They're not living that.
(58:50):
They're not. It's just not a reality to them. So
even when you see what happened to Floyd on on
on on um on video, when you see these things
that have have happened to two black people, um through
you know, police brutality or or just you know, people
(59:12):
being citizens and and take carrying out these these heinous acts,
it's still, you know, at the risk of like trying
to minimize or or sound like you know, heartless about it,
I can, I can. I would be willing to bet
that it really hits no more, it doesn't hit as
(59:33):
hard as watching a Netflix a Netflix movie. It's it's
so it's so not real to them that it's it's
like watching a movie when I see this, and sometimes
you need but you need that visualization, right, some of
those stirring moments in film maybe get you into the reality.
But I'll connect it to the other, you know, crisis
(59:55):
we have going on. We talked about it a lot
COVID nineteen and and what you're doing to to get
out and about and be part of society, and why
we have these battles mask no mask, like until it
hits home, like you said, until there's something that that
strikes to your core, affects your family, affects your existence,
(01:00:16):
it's easy to easier to keep your opinion where it
is right. So if your right, because if if you're
a no mask, you know, I'm not wearing a mask.
You can't do that your sheep whatever. If the only
thing changing your mind at this point is if someone
close to you or that you love, admire, respect, whatever,
(01:00:36):
get sick with it, right, that's just reality. So preaching
about percentages, We've done that for months. Nothing's changing in
the math that's going to get through that next level
of the cranium. It's just not right. You've made your
decision and trying to argue people out of a point
of view. It's just a lot of hot air right
at this point. So now it's you take care of yourself.
(01:00:59):
You do your ask for your family however you're approaching it,
and try to keep yourself safe. Likewise, in all these
other circumstances that we've talked about through this entire to
our existence on this airways together, going back to February
of we we don't have the same experiences people don't like.
(01:01:19):
We don't have the experience of a billionaire. I don't
have the experience of a guy living in the middle
of Nebraska. So you got to try to listen and
try to come to some understanding of what it all means.
It's just still hard, it is, right, and that's just it.
It's it's hard. That's not an excuse, though, No, you
still have to try. But to how difficult telling a
(01:01:44):
person to get off the couch and lose that weight
like sounds good? It's me by the way I'm speaking of.
I was gonna say, we could be pointing fingers at
each other. We could have it at Spider Man. It's
sure as easy to tell me you need to get
up off of his couching and get some of his
weight up off of you. But at the end of
the day, getting it off and hearing that I need
(01:02:06):
to get it off are two different things. Keeping consistent
excuse but it off, That's right, add King of the

Thanks for hanging out with this. Fox Sports Sunday, Mike

the bigger issues. What about the teams themselves and well

Oh but the diaper bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys

car seat buckle for the toddler. And now the eldest daughter,
(01:03:37):
who looks to be about nine or ten, has secured
herself in the booster seat. Dad zips the bag clothes
and they're off. Ah, but looks like Mom doesn't realize
her coffee cup is still on the roof of the

I got in trouble. I'm liking a doghouse at home

little bit too right in the end, there could be
(01:06:32):
only one. Uh, but we're we're looking and trying to
evaluate teams and looking for some value plays. Right, it's
easy to talk about the Lakers and Clippers and the
Lakers losing Avery Bradley. We can talk about it from
a team perspective, right, if you're a teammate, probably a
bit salty, right, Some with similar family circumstances, or we're
(01:06:54):
just having to leave their families for a few weeks altogether.
But he made the decision to opt out of the
bubb on. A couple of others did as well, not
nearly as many as I think some believe there would be.
And I was I didn't think we'd see it from
one of the true contenders when you talk about the Lakers,
the Clippers, the Bucks, unless something was I mean just
(01:07:14):
dire that they would find a way to make it happen. Well,
the Philadelphia seventies sixers might have some of their some
other issues because they were becoming one of the darling
Well why not them? If it beads in shape it
And then Tobias Harris went on to uh first take
and had this comment, I'll just say, you know, and
(01:07:34):
I keep it real. We haven't had the best chemistry
throughout the whole year. It took us a while to
kind of get everyone together. We battle injuries from the
start to the end, and right now, if we're the sleeper,
then we're to sleep like to be told how we're viewed.
That's someone else's opinion. And I know when I looked
my guys in the eye and we have conversations, we
(01:07:57):
got one goal of mine. That's the go out there
and play and win a champion ship. So that's the
only view that matters to me. So now that becomes
the question sitting at one, go ahead, I'm trying to
didn't he contradict He just totally contradicted himself. Yes he did,
(01:08:17):
Yes he did. Listen, Listen, I'm gonna tell y'all. Listen
from the start of it. You know, we just we've
had chemistry problems. And you know he never said we
corrected the chemistry problems, right, Well, I said it took
us a while the kind to get everyone together. And
when you say kind of, that means you're still not
(01:08:37):
give a solution. But you went right into saying if
you think we sleepers, then then say we're sleepers. I
looking back by guy's eyes and what I still see
that we're not fully uh jelling and messing together. You know,
we really don't have that chemistry that I'm talking about
that we were trying to have coming into the So hey,
(01:08:59):
you wanna call a sleep pers that you call a
sleepers because we're still gonna win a bad Man Majama.
So many folks, I don't care what the teams that
I put on the list, just saying, all right, from
from a star power and in youth and all of
these things. The potential is there if they coalesced. The
problem is you did have how many trade rumors for
(01:09:21):
both your stars? Injuries and beads? Notorious? What kind of
shape is he showing up in? Right? Is he gonna
work himself back into shape? And think that the eight
games and their little uh pre preseason that we talked
about of getting back into camp is going to be enough?
Uh And and just in general, guys buying into this
(01:09:46):
bubble because you don't know how it was gonna react.
Sometimes it's just hard. Like I can recall teams I
was on and when egos getting away and you're talking
about you know, a whole lot more guys, but when
you're you're thinking about units, like within the linebacker unit.
I can remember one year I was playing in Washington,
there were just like the egos, like this guy was
(01:10:07):
the guy at his team. This guy was the guy
to his team. They were traded. They there there now.
So now you've got like three or four big name
guys that are on the team. And it didn't mesh well.
Never it never did. It never took it never, it
never worked. And and so you can look at someone
(01:10:29):
saying that the first thing I think when I hear
that the chemistry is off and it's been off, it's
not off because of injuries, because you can still have
chemistry even though guys are getting injured. I can recall
the year lineback, my rookie year me, me, Shawn Barber,
Kevin Kevin Mitchell, uh, Derek Smith. Like we were tight,
(01:10:56):
and I remember Sean Barber got hurt. I didn't ruin
our chemistry. I was putting his number on my spikes,
on my cleats every every week like that. I was
honoring him. I remember I got hurt and Sean barbera
wore my number. He actually he was at a different team,
but he actually wore my number. Um. So, chemistry is chemistry.
(01:11:19):
So when you have a guy coming out saying that
the chemistry hasn't been right and it's been a little off,
and you know, a lot of different things are happening.
You're giving different elements and components to what's going on
with your team in general. But chemistry's chemistry, bro, And
I'm gonna tell you right now, if you're talking about
there's chemistry issues, then there still are chemistry. I'm not
(01:11:41):
throwing away by bucks on the I'll find myself another
long shot along the way. I wouldn't do it, but yeah,
I just I can understand if he framed it as
we never got into our paces because we didn't have
the same starting five. Right. Chemistry is one of those
(01:12:01):
it's a buzzword, but it really says a lot of
purely basing it off of performance chemistry. Okay, I could
get that, I could get that, I could buy that.
I would be okay with that. But when you're saying
chemistry away he said chemistry, I just don't know that.
It just doesn't sound as though they're a cohesive group.
(01:12:23):
And and you gotta love the guys you play with,
and you gotta love them so much you play for them,
and you gotta play love them so much that you
play with them. Well said, We're just gonna let that
you gotta play together in order to be able to
win at King of the Mammals on Instagram. Accountability. That's it.
(01:12:48):
You're accountable to the guy next to you, no question
about it. Just like here in the guy go Fox
Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next, we're gonna talk about
Major League Baseball one of their stars. Uh and Vince
may have some thoughts on this one. I took too
well to Penn. He put his pen to paper, just
talking about the different decisions that have to be made
and how big big this really is player to player.
(01:13:10):
But first it's Isaac Loangron. He's got what's trending, you know,
Michael LaVar For one of the rare times over the
last three months, I'm happy to say we have a
live sports highlight for you, big time drama. Today. In
the Premier League's f A Cup quarterfinal, Arsenal tied with
Sheffield one to one in injury time. Danny Sails has
(01:13:32):
he now frost. I'm Danny sALS, the substitute from care
Tagle Cute Cup drama and Arsenal's leaders restored in at
a time at the end of the March, some British
guy with the call on BT Sport one h d
the goal in the ninety first minute gave Arsenal a
(01:13:55):
dramatic two to one victory, and also gave a lot
of you people out there ref sure from high school math.
That's the last time I ever heard the phrase acute
angle as opposed to and obtuse angles. So Arsenal with
the dramatic two to one victory. Golf. After three rounds
of the Travelers Championship over on this side of the pond,
(01:14:15):
Brendan Todd has the lead at eighteen under par overall,
with Dustin Johnson two shots back at sixteen under. Phil
Nicholson actually had the lead after two rounds, but he
is now six shots back after a one over seventy
one on Saturday. Todd and Johnson will comprise the final
pairing when a t off today at two oh five
(01:14:35):
Eastern time. Michael and LaVar or acuteness from you, you know,
up to measures more than ninety degrees and angle acute
measures less than ninety degrees, just so we're clear, that
was well done, very well done. Or you can use
(01:14:56):
The more you know that brings back is growing because
you know obtuse. That way, if you call someone obtuse,
you've cut them to the quick, right to the quick,
annoyingly insensitive or slow to understand. We could be using
that a lot in our society these days. I'm surprised
(01:15:17):
I haven't heard it more. You're being so how could
you be so obtuse? And that was the end of
Andy Dufrani went back to the hole for a long time.
Words matter people who was a dope dude? Man, Well,
well we'll do a deep dive. I mean, Mike and
Lavarko to the movie rock camera. Well, that's it, chip
it away little pieces and eventually, if you had to,
(01:15:40):
if you had to crawl hundreds and hundreds of yards
through it. You know, that's like life. People. Sometimes you
find yourself diving through a hole in the wall. That's right.
You drop and you find yourself in a pile of waste. Yes,
and you gotta crawl, you head, stand up. It's not
(01:16:01):
enough room, people, But to get into your goal and
to get to your dream, you gotta crawl. And it
isn't just crawling and scratching and scraping your elbows and
knees on the ground trying to get to where you're going. No,
you're doing it in waste. You smell it. You understand
what it is, and yet you still gotta push through it.
(01:16:24):
Sometimes you gotta crawl and scratch, gotta crawl through a
little bit of waste to get to what's waiting for you.
At the end, it was, I mean that's what he
was crawling. Well, there's no question about it, you know, guys,
I recommend that from now on we make LaVar the
permanent pregame pep talk deliverer around here, instead of doing
(01:16:48):
it on a rotational basis like we do. I think
LaVar should do it everything. It was that not great,
I mean that was that was inspiration. I can see
it with that rock hammer in his hand, that's right
hipping away days and hours and months, and that's the
metaphor this stuff. Change doesn't happen immediately. No, you gotta
chip away and you gotta believe that that's gonna work.
(01:17:11):
If he imagine, could you believe with the first striking
of that rock hammer that eventually it will leave you
know what it makes me think of as well. I'm
a big count of Monte Christo Fane. I love the movie.
And when Priest was was trying to get his way out,
(01:17:31):
his funny because he ends up in Uh, and uh,
what's my man Dantest? He ends up in Dantest? Uh
is is what he gave himself? Done? Well, no, it
wasn't Dantest. What was the main character's name? Uh? Anyways,
he gets into his he gets into I'll get it.
I mean he was the Count of Monti Christo. But
(01:17:52):
I'm trying to think of what his name was before
he changed it. Uh. Anyways, Uh, it might have been Dante.
But the point is is that the priest came in
and he was like, you know, if you help me,
we can double the time and we'll get there maybe
in like four or five six months. Dude, Edmond done
(01:18:12):
tests back, he starts laughing. Thought test starts laughing at
the priests, and the priest goes, wait, you know you're
in the chateau DF like this is like this is
the this is the jail where they put innocent people.
He's like, well, you got some pressing, pressing appointment, some
somewhere to go, somewhere to be Like, so we do this,
(01:18:33):
we get out of here in a couple of months.
But you're laughing at me. Let's let's get to digging, Like,
let's get in this tunnel. Let's get the digging. You know,
he had to bribe them. He bribed him with education,
which I thought was pretty cool because he became well
with economics and and and understanding the Bible and and
just you know, he really really educated don tests and
(01:18:55):
that's how he was able to live up to the
standard of be an account. But the moral of the
story was sometimes you don't even want to even engage
in doing what it takes to get to where your
ultimate goal maybe, and even in trying to get to
that ultimate goal, the factors involved changed the the the
(01:19:16):
tunnel collapsed. They did not have the ability to get
freedom through using the tunnel anymore. But his his mind,
he used innovation and he used some some some thought
into finding a way to get out, and unfortunately he
switched his body with the priest boy. I don't want
to be a ruiner of them from watch The Count
(01:19:39):
of Money, Christo. It's an amazing movie. And let me
tell you something. The bottom line is is that we
all have goals that we need to get to. We
all have purposes that we need to live to get to.
But the but the point is, are you willing to
go through what you have to go through. That's that's Showank.
Redemption is a choice. It's a choice. Man. I thought
(01:20:01):
I thought the moral of your story was gonna be
see And it proves that Louise Guzman was in every
movie oh wow, because he was. He and Henry Cavill Superman,
the young Superman in this one something some some some
good names in that movie, no question about it. He
is LaVar Arrington, King of the Mammals on Instagram. Through it,
(01:20:25):
you can get there, the all American. You gotta keep going, right,
if you're going through hell, keep on going. You might
get out before the devil knows you're there. There you
go about all right, find me over at Swallendell. We'll
get to Ryan Zimmerman and his take on the upcoming
Major League Baseball and some of the concerns. Uh now,
(01:20:52):
there you go, Ryan, LaVar's got your back. We'll get
that next year on Fox Sports Radio. Don't listening the
Fox Sports right, Hey, welcome back in It's Fox Moore

thanks for our guy, Chris Perfett for laying down the beats. Yeah,
(01:21:19):
all right, you're a little early, but that's okay. It
offered us more and figured it might we might not
make it there, So no, that's true. Eventually you gotta
you gotta tap it down. You got Isa updates? Hi? Yah, yeah, hi, yeah,
I don't even know what word they say. Well, we're
(01:21:39):
looking up in the just just keep saying September is
what fits, uh suggested. That's one that there's no to me.
They are certainly not saying September. While no, he's just
saying in general, just just I'm I'm going to karate kick. Hi. Yeah,
that's my that's my brow. That's your deal, all right.
(01:22:02):
Two time All Star in fielder of your Washington Nationals
Ryan Zimmerman. He's been in the league fifteen, hero of
the Washington area, no question. Wah wah, who type of
guy you know? So, as told to the AP sportswriter
Howard Fendrich, kind of went to a diary of the
planet returning and this is how he opened it. Well,
(01:22:26):
I'm still deciding whether to play when it all comes
down to it as a decision not just for me,
but for my family as well. I have a three
week old baby, my mother has MS and a super
high risk. So if I end up playing, I can
pretty much throw out the idea of seeing her until
weeks after the season is over. It's a lot of
other factors that I and others have to consider. I
don't think there's a right or wrong answer. It's everybody's
(01:22:47):
individual choice. And talking about being comfortable, you know here
here's there is the paragraph that I circled was I
haven't by no means someone who thinks we all need
to hide in our houses until a vaccine is found.
That's not feasible. We just need to do things in
a smart, sensible way so that that's really where we're
And that's been the line I think you and I
(01:23:09):
have espoused here on Fox Sports Radio. Of all right,
you're still going out right, and if you've left your
house at all, you've assumed some percentage of risk, right,
whether you've just gone to the grocery store once for
five minutes to grab two items you needed for a recipe,
or you were in there walking the aisles. If you
touch stuff, you know what other people touch stuff, and
(01:23:32):
that we and so on and so forth. Whatever. Forget
about the people running around and being dopes and coughing
on each other on purpose. We had a house of
guess and their kids came over. Our kids play there,
you go right there. Then we had cut fruit and
a bowl like a big bowl. Um cut up a
watermelon and some some other fruits to go along with it.
(01:23:55):
Kid didn't light the watermelon, put it back in. Kids. Yeah,
all your best laid plans that suddenly just change. You're
talking about touching things and recycling. You know, like even
if you didn't eat that piece that was a bit
off of that still went back into the entire Now
(01:24:17):
we're talking about that entire bowl and yeahs are just
jumping from from fruit to fruit, right, and that that's
the whole thing, right, And we don't know, like not
everybody's gotten tested, not everybody has gone through that process,
and we've seen the videos, and you can't know. You
can't know where the contact points and what it creates.
You just can't. So you're you're operating is as smartly
(01:24:40):
and as efficiently as you can. For Ryan Zimmerman and
the Nationals will be at their home parks. We're talking
about the way the schedule from our reports is going
to be tailored, is that you'll have longer series so
you don't have to travel as often, right, so instead
of your normal three game, hey, why don't we just
do five games here and then we'll move on. So
potential to make up or lose ground pretty fast that way,
(01:25:04):
depending on the strength of your opponent. But in the
the ideas that you still go home to your families, right,
and anybody that's working around the team still goes home,
because that's the one variable in the bubble with the
NBA that you can't control unless you sequester all of
the Walt Disney World employees and service providers that are
(01:25:27):
there that they can't go home either, right, that they
get their own dorm and either have to be they
have to be away from their families as well. That
now you're adding more variables to your nikoise. You gotta
resign to the fact that if you're, if you're a
player safer that rather than being sorry type of person,
don't be around your family while you're doing all of this,
(01:25:50):
while you're having all of this contact, don't do it.
You know, I know I was telling you before. Our coach,
our coach at Penn State, like his family is going
to an entirely different state during the football season. They
won't even be in the same state as as as
the head guy. So when you're talking about taking the
(01:26:12):
proper precautions, again, what Zim was touching on is a
very important piece that people are going to have to
pay attention to and come to grips with and come
to terms with basketball, football, whatever it may be baseball.
Is that do I want to be with my family
or am I okay with being away from my family?
(01:26:34):
And if I'm with my family, what are the precautions
that I need to take in order to try to
make sure that I'm keeping my mother with MS and
my three week old baby keeping and even my wife,
my spouse, keeping them safe during this time. Aware I'm
having so much interaction, this is a very real conversation.
To me, it's a no brainer. Like, y'all gotta go
(01:26:57):
and I'll see you after. You gotta do what I
gotta do. Just how it works. Well, we'll get through
the season. Here's all the technology to keep us connected.
I gotta go to work. It's just how it works. Yeah,
So I mean that that's one of the big discussion
points that's very American. Well it is. Yeah, roll up
the sleeves and get and that's why you got millions
(01:27:20):
trying to be like you. You're a role model, and
the Ravens are taking their conditioning test. We'll talk about
it next. You're listening to Fox Sports. Gretings Welcome in
the second half begins disco ball, still fluttering about. We
made uh, we tagged out. We put up the substitution card.
(01:27:41):
Iowa Sam checks in. I was Sam Sam. He's got
the thumbs up. We'll get the well check in with
Sam as the hours go on. Evince Isaac our team here,
I'll Mike Garmon alongside me, the All American LaVar Arrington
having some fun with you. Thanks for taking a few
(01:28:01):
minutes of your time. Wherever you're at in the highways
and by ways of life. Be safe out there, take
care of yourselves and each other, trying to find some
sunshine and a laugh along the way as you can.
We've got sporting events. We'll get into a little of
Fight Island coming up in about fifteen minutes from Well,
that would be good tease, because that's that's what I
(01:28:25):
was going to segue into that. But there were pictures
from Yaz Island where Dana White are working to construct
the octagon on the beach and they had another event
last night. It went well, tremendous fights, a couple of big,
big epic battles or anything like. No, but but but
(01:28:49):
they're not on Fight Island yet at another event. Fight
Island is coming. Now we're starting to get the previews
about Fire You ever watch that documentary crazy he was
at It's crazy that he was actually able to pull
that off. That's just it. But maybe Dana White has
Fight Isling in us. Maybe he's Fire five, maybe back lot,
(01:29:12):
and we don't even know. So well done about that
because if he goes to Universal Studios on the lot
over here right now, you can you can even have
some of the stuff from Jurassic Park make its way
in because we've all had laughs about the you know
where where the raptors are going to be kept in stuff. Yeah,
but we'll get into that in a few But you
(01:29:33):
mentioned Orlando as potential Fight Islands. Uh. Something we've talked
about a bunch of the bubble of logistics right from
food and players preferences and that mazing. But maybe they
get some writers in their contract. You got guys that
that needs certain things that they want in from a
culinary World right through or whatever next level. Yeah, there's
(01:29:57):
no question they'll take care of that. You're gonna have
entertained ment, right, talking about figuring out a way to
have you know, concerts or whatever they need to there.
And then when when you look at the video game systems.
All of these things have come up in passing, but
one one thing that really pushes and we talked about
(01:30:17):
it a little bit last hour with Tobias Harris and
the Philadelphia seventies sixer is talking about chemistry and kind
of the get along and teams they do road trips,
they get on planes, and they're in the hotels and
guys go their separate ways and whatever. But here we're
talking about you're on top of each other, much like
(01:30:38):
families have been since March, and and they've had enough
of the job. Right, talk to any of your friends,
they've got at least a half dozen stories that roll
right off the tongue of this happened or that happened
and now we weren't talking, or one of the kids
just stayed in the room, or whatever the case may be.
Now we're talking about taking professional athletes away from their families.
(01:31:01):
Eventually they come back into play you know, some small
percentage for each player as as we move deeper into
the platts, assuming there are no changes. Because that's the
other thing. This is a living organism, right, That's the
thing that can't be understated either. And I think Adam
Silver has echoed to some of the comments that we've
made here the show going. Look, there's no no situation
(01:31:21):
that's risk free and that and no matter what the
best laid plans are, they're all subject to change, of course,
as necessary. But the one thing that is true and
cannot be denied as human nature and the fact that
eventually guys are gonna get tired of looking at each other. Man. Listen,
My my comparison was training camp. You know, the most
(01:31:44):
fight fights, the most disagreements, the most tense moments of
a football season aren't during training because you're talking about
a rigid schedule, right, bed checks, That's what I'm saying. Like,
and you're there like it's one thing and you're able
to again, you're able to leave the facility. You know.
(01:32:05):
For me, I moved to a home. It's interesting because
I totally thought about this, thought this through. I moved
to a home that was an hour away from where
I worked my last year's in Washington, I moved an
hour away. I was driving from Annapolis to Ashburn, Virginia
every day. Now Here's what's interesting there is the Severn
(01:32:27):
Bridge seven River bridge for me, represented like a detached
from d C. So soon as I crossed. As soon
as I crossed that bridge, it was like I felt relief.
I didn't change music, didn't change, just the way I felt.
(01:32:47):
And it was every day, Mike. When I went across
the Severn River, every day, it was like I had
enough time on the road where all the issues that
I dealt with at work I was able to kind
of work through it in a way where I wasn't
bringing anything toxic into my home. And then by the
(01:33:07):
time I got to the Severn River, I had already
kind of I usually was always and even if I
was not done with the issue itself, once I crossed
that bridge, I knew that I was close to my
wife and to my kids and and that everything was okay.
Like I pulled into my house, Daddy, Daddy, the dogs
(01:33:29):
are wagon and and happy, the wife has the mill done,
and it's it's like you get that ability to disconnect
for a moment even if it's for five minutes, you
get that moment to disconnect to not and I don't
know how they're going to create this hair for in Orlando.
(01:33:51):
But if this is a training camp situation where you're
not breaking camp until the season is finished, and this
is you have to be and you don't have your
loved ones with you, and you don't have that that
spatial that spatial opportunity to kind of disconnect from the
stresses and the pressures and the dramas of what took
(01:34:14):
place during the course of that day of practice or
the game or preparation, whatever it was. There's gonna be
some eruptions. Man. Well that that's the curiosity, right, you
don't have that break like you mentioned. You know, we
can take two sports movies into it. The Jerry McGuire
when Kuba Gooding Jr. Is laid out and you get
that clap that brings him back to and that moment
(01:34:37):
of clarity or for love of the game, and Kevin
Costner because we got to check off some sports while
we do this. Uh, when you have well, but we
talked about Vince Scully a little bit earlier, so since
he's the voice of the love of the game. UH
and Kevin Costner, some of his best work has been
that although that new show is killer, the I'm gonna
(01:35:00):
check it out. Yeah, the Western kind of things. So,
but for love of the game, guy working towards a
perfect game. So you've got all the crowd noise or
whatever else, but then there's the clear the mechanism release
point where everything goes silent, and we all have that
in our different ones, and you know, whatever you're doing right,
(01:35:22):
you'll have that moment of clarity and you just get
to work. And I think when we're talking about this bubble,
guys don't necessarily get that disconnect right all those routines,
I don't see how they're going to write think of
think of all the routines, Like even in your game
day rituals, right, we can we can mock and laugh
(01:35:43):
at some of the interactions with celebrities along the front row,
But that's how a lot of guys are getting their
mind right, right Lebron James and the big chalk thing whatever,
it's routine, it's repetition to do. But in terms of
UH and and listen, game day routine and pregame and
(01:36:04):
all that stuff, there's the excitement of game day that
can carry you through all the ales. It's the other days,
it's the other day are it's all the other stuff
that that guys are going to have to deal with,
Like if they're gambling, you know, there's gonna be gambling there.
(01:36:27):
If there's like whatever it is that's taking place, if
there is actually no opportunity to see the outside world
and have experience um experiences with interaction with other people,
even if it's just flirting, even if it's just hey,
(01:36:48):
how you doing today, Like are you good? Good? Good
to see you, and that's a nice math you're wearing,
you know, whatever it may be. If you don't have
that to the level that you need it, you are
now bringing frustration, pent up energy, all kinds of different
feelings and emotions that you do. You've generally had outlets
(01:37:12):
to be able to release and not build them up.
Somebody is literally going to pop, like physically, I'm thinking
this might be the first time in the history of
of mankind that a person leaves here by popping. Well
(01:37:33):
maybe it's happened in like deep sea diving or something.
I don't know, but somebody is going to be so
built up that they will not be able to fit
anymore in and they are going to explode, literally gone poof.
The only time I can remember that was the Monty
Python film where the guy had eating a lot and
(01:37:54):
he needed another. Then it was wafer thin. And since
we're throwing movies out, how about Trouble in Little China.
See there you go. Now we're going got a super
strong one. And he used and he used to get
so so swollw he'd be like, and then he just
kept he just kept going and he kept going, and
he kept and didn't he exploded. You gotta be careful
(01:38:14):
with that. Most muscular, there's no question. But he was
not breathing. You gotta breathe. But a lot of folks
can relate to this in their just in terms of
the number of hours in a day that you work,
or you're working in off schedules, so maybe you're not
seeing your significant other a ton, or your kids are
or old enough that they're in rehearsals and plays and
(01:38:35):
and their sports workouts or whatever. Where you're trying to
steal moments and you get pieces of stories right, pieces
of things that need to be done around the house
or whatever, and there's and you feel helpless because there's
nothing you can do, and it just builds, it gets monotonous,
not even being in a quarantine situation. Could you imagine
(01:38:56):
the quarantine Like, okay, people here, I'm gonna think about
the job that you do, all right, think about how
many hours you have to do it, and and you're
doing it whatever, But think about you're doing all of
these different things just to open twice a week. So
I think they'd be playing like two games a week.
I believe that's schedule, right, So think about all the
(01:39:19):
days and all the hours you put in and you
have to go to the same place. You're not able
to have a social like a real genuine social life.
I can't unless I mean unless the reporters and I
don't know who's able to have contact with who, but
to not be able to go home. And you work,
You do your job. It's not for anybody to see.
(01:39:42):
It's just you doing your job. But two times during
the course of the week you open the shop or
wherever it is you work. This is it's now open.
This is this is the business of it. Like people
see it, they consume it. This The rest of it's
all preparation and then you go to your barracks. It's
almost like being in the military. It's like military. It's
(01:40:03):
like military. Like now that I'm sitting here really thinking
about it, it's like the military. But what makes the
military better is it's at least it's you know, everybody,
you know. It's as guys as girls. It's old, it's
younger like, it's it's kind of it's it's a mix
of everyone. Yeah, now you're gonna be relying on so
(01:40:24):
many different media you're gonna have. You're going whoever is
allowed in that bubble are that aren't Basketball players are
going to be rock stars, super stars, amazing stars because people,
especially athletes, we rely on that contact. Like if you
(01:40:49):
think about the premise of why we are amazing, it's like, oh,
he's got great athletic ability. There are a million dudes
with great athletic ability that never did anything with it.
It's your ability to be able to produce with that
athleticism and that ability in front of the masses of
people who are watching. That's what separates you. So that
(01:41:12):
we feed off of interaction with people, that's it. And
we waved to the people that were streaming to as
we go for this. But but but it's just that
that idea is is very real, right of the folks
that are in that bubble. This is also where it's
going to get interesting, the stories that can and will
(01:41:33):
be told and what they become privy to. While it
said bubble, all right, it's gonna inform a lot of
writing and video clips and radio segments going forward what
they hear, right, because once you get to know the
athletes a little bit more, it's there's not that distance, right,
The veneer is gone, and so now the maybe humanizing
(01:41:56):
them a bit more so that I can't argue that
would be a thing. But the other you know, some
editorial choices, uh, and potential for fireworks is there as well. There, Hey,
something told in confidence is the guy's walking through the
walking through the courtyard at two o'clock in the morning
that finds its way on a radio show five hours.
(01:42:17):
Are you even allowed to walk through a courtyard at
that hour? That's a good question, Like what are the limitations? Man?
Lots of rules. Let's put let's make a wager there
will be a reported scuffle that takes place at all one.
What's the over under on that? That's that how many,
(01:42:38):
I'll set it at three and a half. There will
be three and a half scuffles at least that get
to someone's got to break it up. Man. See here's
the only problem I have. Ye will they get reported?
But that's that's what I mean, right, Is that something
that it's it's understood, it's understood that volatile And this
(01:42:59):
might be the we get the thirty th years from
Did you know that these guys were beating the hell
out of each other like every other day? We may
find that out later on. Alright, based upon what hits like,
this is gonna hit media. It's gonna get reported there
because maybe there's a scuffle that takes place where a
guy is altered and can't play or something. Y'all may
(01:43:22):
be laughing right now. This is some real truth, guy.
Get This is when dudes like dudes get so built
up it turns in the terminator mode. Yeah, this could
get tom I'm gonna if it's three, If it's three plus,
I'm taking the under on it. Okay, But if it
were saying one fight, one major fight will get reported,
(01:43:44):
I would take it's that's an even money shot. Yeah, No,
I would agree with that. Wellheartedly, but we've also just
set up the fact that you and I have to
stay in touch for the next twenty years. See how
that works. Nicely done by me. I'm my Garmen. That's
LaVar Arrington, All American. We're comany alive from the guy.
Go Fox Sports Radio Videos fifteen minutes. Can say if
fifteen or more on your car insurance with Geico, So
(01:44:04):
go over to Geico dot com get yourself a free
rate quote. Coming up next, we're talking about Joe Banner.
He's got some concerns related to how the NFL is
gonna pull this off. We'll do that next on Fox.
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back in Fox
Sports or Radio. This is Fox Sports Sunday, My Carmen
alongside the all American love our Errington having a blast
(01:44:27):
with you. Big topics of the day. Lots going on
as we try to restart our sporting universe, and we
have in many ways. We referenced the building of Fight Island,
but UFC events continue, NASCAR Race the last night, you're
talking about the Premier League and soccer leagues all over
the globe getting flowing and well we got schedule. Well
(01:44:50):
one came out the other starting to get leaked. We've
got the NBA schedule for the resumption of play, We've
got Major League Baseball and leaks of what Open Day
will look like this year, but waiting on the full schedule.
But for the NFL, finally some activity had to had
to occur because the calendar has finally flipped far enough,
(01:45:11):
LaVar as we get ready for July and things to
get flow in here. July is when you know everybody's
adrenaline starts rushing a little bit. Historically, this is where
coaches lose their minds those final three weeks before players
report to camp, right, because they're gonna act a little
crazy because they know they're about to go to camp.
So getting those last throws of quasi vacation in between
(01:45:33):
their workouts out uh and in. But the cancelation of
the Hall of Fame game and the Hall of and
postponing the Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremonies. It's the first
real act the NFL has had to take to address
COVID nineteen right addressing though, I mean, listen, the biggest
(01:45:55):
part about that game is the enshrinese. The inductees going
in so Nobody wants to play in that game. I've
been in that game, I played one one series. Nobody
wants to play in that game. Man, it's a preseason games.
This is the ultimate uh advantage that the NFL has
(01:46:19):
right now is that they have games like the Hall
of Fame game. You have four four preseason games that
is which we've always argued needed to be too to
be shortened. It's just too many. So you're talking about
a month to really really or you're you know, a
given period where it's like if it's not all the
(01:46:43):
way quite ready yet and we're tweaking some things, don't
do that, don't do that game. Nobody is going to
miss a preseason game. I mean, if you're die hard,
I get it. But you're gonna watch. You're gonna you're
gonna watch a little bit of it and and you're
going to flip through the channels like you do that,
(01:47:03):
Like that's what you're gonna do. You're not going to
watch an entire There may be a small percentage of
guys that watch an entire preseason game. And if you are,
you are crazy, well you're not really crazy, but I'll
wear that as I will. I'll where it's okay, it's me.
I'm one of those guys. I sit there in my
(01:47:24):
wanderoose with a big old bucket of Captain Crunch while
I watched football. It's like you have a window to
my soul. The idea being that, you know, we talk
about guys trying to the Spider Man was you know,
the blue piping a Batman. Those were great. Those were great.
(01:47:45):
I'm gonna go get a pair. We might have to
order those before the show's out. I'm going to start
doing the show and those there's nothing wrong with them all.
I wouldn't judge you at all. There we go, I'd
applaud you, thank you, and we'd have to live stream
at all. So what are you saying? What are what's
what's the feedback? What's the reaction to the cancelation of
the game? Panic is at the end of the world,
(01:48:07):
there's there's a little bit of that concern, right. So
Joe Banner in the league for twenty years, Eagles and
Browns CEO was on ESPN a spell. We took to Twitter.
NFL people I talked to you, was determined to try
and start the season on time. Are worried about being
able to finish it. Well, Yeah, that's going to be
the biggest question. I think that's that's really where it
goes is plans have as much as you can put
(01:48:31):
in about protocol and how this works, but just knowing
that not everybody's going to act how you're anticipating they're
gonna act right, and you're gonna have You're gonna have
some outliers. So you've got to build that into your
formulas and your algorithms for how this extrapolates. You have
no idea which players might because this lends itself like
a little and we'll continue the conversation on this the
(01:48:54):
a little bit to the backlash of what Tom Brady,
Matthew Stafford and guys are doing continuing to work. Yeah,
and when we look at college teams and certainly clems
in with their thirty seven, the numbers are going on.
You know what's interesting. One thing. I don't know if
this is true or or if it's a standard rule
across the board, but I think I overheard a conversation
(01:49:18):
with a college coach talking to another hit coach, and
it was almost like, who glad they're getting it now,
because if they get it during the season. I think
I heard them say that they have to shut them
down for the season. Well let's let's talk about that
coming up here on the other side. But first we're
gonna kick it over to Isaac Low and crown our
(01:49:39):
man about town. He's got what's trending? You see that lavarv.
Michael is so brilliant. He didn't even realize that he
just delivered the perfect segue. He's kicking it over to
me when our first topic is going to be soccer job.
I mean, thank you, way to convert that cross. I'm
(01:50:03):
gonna conscious level of brilliance. But Michael is at an
unconscious level of brilliance right right there, right there in
the matrix bending time bending space. I mean, we've we've
seen Ilo do some of those bendy moves. Like He's
just brilliance all around around here, including in the final
(01:50:25):
minutes of today's Premier League f A Cup quarterfinal match
between Arsenal and Sheffield they were tied at one one
minute into injury time. In the ninety one minute of
the match for US, the substitute from a chair tables
to tie in Arsenal's favor once again. Tum Arsenal's leaders
(01:50:51):
restored at the end of the March and of two
school if you're a Sheffield fan, bat Sport one as
arsen wins it over Sheffield to to one and golf.
After three rounds of the Travelers Championship, Brendan Todd holds
the lead at eighteen under par overall. Dustin Johnson in
(01:51:12):
second place. He's two shots back at sixteen under. Phil
Nicholson actually led this tournament after two rounds, but it's
now six shots back after he shot a one over
seventy one and round three on Saturday. Todd and Johnson
will tee off the final round. The final pairing of
the final round this afternoon at two oh five Eastern time.
As we kick it back to Michael and Lavard and
(01:51:37):
I took it and I headed it in there from
an acute angle note from or maybe just a cute angle,
depending on how you work. It was both. It was
both cute and acute, nicely done at Isaaclow and Crow
him on Twitter uh Mike Carmen alongside LaVar Anon talking
about the NFL and the restart now potentially the theory
(01:51:59):
of take the first month of the season and throw
it to the back. Now that you've got a surge
in cases, there's there's certainly discussion there, but you mentioned
from a college perspective of rising cases, and maybe there
it's to your benefit to have guys get it now, right,
And likewise, I gotta think to some degree guys that
are continue to work out from the NFL perspective. And look,
(01:52:21):
Brady's got his whole TV twelve line and whatever else,
and posting the f DR thing got people mad. The
only thing we have to fear is fear itself. But
everybody's mad, well, but everybody's well, that is your point.
Everybody's mad bad in general. But the the idea is saying,
if we're going to get it, get it now. But
(01:52:41):
also the work doesn't stop, right, Everybody else still going
to work. And that's the thing I think needs to
be triple underscored here. And we've got some folks chiming
in in the Twitter verse, and we appreciate you at
LaVar Arrington or at King of the Man on Instagram.
Now you at me at Swall and don't bring bring
(01:53:02):
the pain just okay, that's reverse psychology. People please at
me okay like that, But but just the idea of
you gotta go to work. They get all these folks
that are out of work right now that many of
them are scratching and calling to do anything to get
(01:53:24):
back into their places of business to keep them open.
The number of restaurants, right Tom Calligo was on I
forget what show he was on, but he estimated some
sevent of independent restaurants are going to close. Right I
I've donated a couple of bucks here and there where
I can. I love live music and theater. It's something
(01:53:46):
that is is very much to my soul. Uh. Today
we commemorate, you know, one of our passing of our uncle.
And he's a guy that I fought without a lot
of stuff, and right now he and I would be
fighting a lot about what's going on in the world.
But you know, the commonality was music. Right, So we
go to concerts, we go to ball games, those kind
of things. But some of my money, as I've been
(01:54:07):
able to, I'm not eating out. Here's a couple of
bucks to save the independent music theaters that are in
business potentially going under because they can't make their rent.
All those places that you go to here modest any right,
so barely enough and now they're trying to be good
to their employees at their own detriment long term, right,
(01:54:30):
So they're they're shortening that window of how long they're
going to be able to retain their businesses. So, you know,
I I get it, and I feel for everybody that
that's going through that. You know, we've all at at
Fox Television, here at Fox Sports Radio. There's a lot
of deals that have had to be broken to keep
the lights on and keep things right. So I mean
(01:54:51):
that that's just that's the way it works, and everybody's
feeling it in different ways. And for the you know,
when we get into the millionaires verse billionaires conversation and
people just dismiss it, is that. I don't think anything
infuriates me more than that, because you're taking a very small,
small view of what really sports is, not from the
(01:55:14):
psychological and the and that part of it, but from
the financial and the ramifications across so many industries, so
many lives, so so many times when we get into
talking about opportunities like how much money somebody has, or
the job that they have or the job that they
don't have, you know, what we never talk about is
(01:55:34):
the possible impact that it has on those who are
those millionaires. How are they being impact if it's the
if it's the person that is the boss of it,
like the owner of it, how are they being impacted by,
you know, having to let all of these people go.
Like It's one thing to have to let employees goes
that are are expendable employee employees, but when you're letting
(01:55:57):
go those core when you gotta let go core employe ease,
Like be clear, that's one of the most difficult things
to have to do, is when you have to let
somebody that that you truly see their value and truly
understand what they bring to the company, but can afford
to have them. That is like, there are different just
(01:56:19):
put it to you like this, there are different different
crosses that we have to bear, all right. And and
one maybe a person is making minimum wage and they
lose their job, Well, what does that mean for the
millionaires of that that? Well, a millionaire has their cross
the beer as well, you know, and they have their
complications and emotional dresses and and and and believe you me,
(01:56:42):
I still have conversations with the I R S. I
owned the restaurant, uh what seven years ago? Eight years ago?
And I still have to have conversations with the I
R S. So don't don't think that oh, money cures everything.
There are there are problems that everybody have on or
(01:57:04):
has on every level, on every single level. So you
don't have to if you don't have to look at
and say, oh, well they're fine because they have a
ton of money and this done other. Okay, that just
shows that you didn't take the time to actually really
understand what's going on that's surrounding all of these things.
It isn't as simple or as cut and dry as
(01:57:26):
a person just losing their jobs. Sometimes. Yeah, so I
mean that that's the that's been the larger point right
with all of this is to listen to each other.
Empathy on all angles and and empathy it's a big
word we hadn't used to get today. I thought we
had to get it in one thing. We should always
use it at least one show. But just the the
idea of trying to understand how these decisions get made.
(01:57:48):
They don't happen in a vacuum. And for a lot
of people running businesses, you know they're holding on even
though the signs are bad and they know, hey, I
should probably get out, right if if that's their family's lifeblood, right,
and they pumped their heart and soul and all their
dollars into it, they're gonna ride it out, even if
financially every sign is that it's a it's a disaster.
(01:58:11):
So why not preserve that last ten percent? Heart's going
to drive you to that last ten percent to where
your to your zero sum game? Right, So when we
get to it for the end, NFL, now it's the
all right, how do we move things around? How do
we try to control this? You know, if we move games,
is that better or worse? Right? The spike and tests,
(01:58:33):
you know, and and interpret the data as you will.
You can take the victory lap in terms of percentage
of death, that's still a lot of a lot of
people are affected and have lost lives and lost family
members to this. Uh And you talk about people that
are recovered and that's good. It's somewhere in between truth lives.
I've had a couple of people in my life that
(01:58:54):
have had it. They've gotten over it, but it's been
a slow road and moving forward. So the NFL is
trying to figure are out there their world to keep
it going and as soon as people the owners start
talking about having fans and stands, everybody loses their minds,
like I non't no, They're still trying to make sure
that some of the business goes on and it's not.
(01:59:15):
And I'd like to believe it's not just the cold,
callous Hey here's a couple of bucks more in my
pocket right that there is a larger community being fed
by this that rolls through. And so when Joe Banner
says this about finishing, it's like, all right, now, what
do we do with the schedule. How do we best
work the mechanisms to get as much of our product out,
(01:59:36):
to recoup as much as we can from our league
partners and give it an honest try at season, it's
gonna be it's going to be more interesting seeing if
they can make it through the season, versus what happens
in the season, like like look at it, like if
(01:59:58):
Patrick Mahomes comes up positive during the season, what are
the rules and how long is he out for and
how does that impact your season? If there is some way,
I mean, God forbid, But the worst case scenario, if
a fatality takes place because of it during the season,
(02:00:19):
what happens? You get into the you know, do you
have to be symptomatic? Like there's all these different subclasses
to all of it, but they can all play out.
To try to figure out the play out during that
period of just so many variables that were going in.
But business goes on right that that is the bottom line?
But does it? It does? But does it? And it's
(02:00:44):
like kind of like what happens? What what could possibly
happen that could actually change that statement? There are possibilities
that could happen that could change that statement. Seeing I'm
all about Joe positivity that I'm ready to strap that positive.
That's it. I'm ready to strap on some shoulder pads
although I don't need them. I gonna look at the
size of these that we can get after it ourselves.
(02:01:08):
Coming up next, the fix was in and then one

We get to talk about goats on two levels. Next
year on Fox. You're listening to Fox Sports, Fox Sports Radio.
This is Fox Sports Sunday. Slavar Arrington the All American
alongside me. I'm Mike Carmen. Sorry, I was just thinking
about all the stuff I learned in high school. Get
(02:01:49):
get back into a little Paul Simon again. Part of
my long singer songwriter thing this week, man, deep thoughts
all over the place, got deep into the writings of
Dylan Watch rocket Man again. Well, you know, running around,
uh may or may not have a little bit of
resemblance to Reginald Dwight, depending on the apparel, you know,
(02:02:11):
like the red glasses I'm wearing right now. But what
about oh yeah, what about Unicorn man? Though, that's a
whole other level. I don't know that I can get
to that. I will Sam, you know about Unicorn man?
Refreshman memory, No, I will not. I will not saying
you're gonna have to go and you have it. Hey,
(02:02:34):
listen to the song that goes with the dance by
the way, Unicorn man. See now you're going next level.
When I hear Unicorn, I just hear Corn. So well
he goes corn, He's Iowa, He's I mean I'm thinking
of you dancing around the unicorn outfit in the desert
like you were that you were a Nebraska guy when
you only hear corn and you're a big tenor. I mean,
(02:02:55):
I'm just saying, he's just waving you more corn. I
think so. But you're not known as a corn Yeah,
we are, and uh and eggs big egg laying steaks,
some would say in the latter part of the calendar,
and deep trying to make a playoff push laying an egg.
(02:03:17):
Nebraska is they're known as the corn Huskers, I know,
but we we battle over our reputation. You guys want
to be the eye of a hawk something. Yeah, I
didn't want to own husking Corny. There's a lot I
did um de tassling for a couple of songs. Did
you really good honest work? So after people graduate from
(02:03:42):
high school, you take their hats and take the tassels off.
That's what you That's what your job was. Anyway, I
thought it was pretty funny. Maybe it was maybe it
was a miss snakes. I collected uh those mortar boards
and we went with those to work. Yes, and then
(02:04:05):
those tassels took on a whole other meaning. Because that's
a whole other industry in and of itself, and we'll
save that for the slide over Baby hour. Maybe this
coming from Yeah, that's right exactly. You can get your

dot com slash credit scorecard limitations. They do apply a
couple of goats stories for you. Here as we finished
our goat, we have one of those. The first comes
from the creators of NBA Jam talking about the goat,
but they gave the programmer Mark Trammel admitted to including
(02:04:48):
a code that gave Detroit a significant advantage over Chicot
since he was a Pistons fan. He said, if the
Bulls player attempted a buzzer beater against the Pistons, the
shot would automatically miss. That messed up. I like it, though,
he said, right. The one way I could get back
at the Bulls once they got over the hump was
(02:05:08):
to affect their skills against the Pistons. And NBA Jam
like that. That's so good. How about we go to
the other goat story. Florida woman has filed a lawsuit
seeking either a paternity test on her goats or a refund.
(02:05:29):
Wait for it, Chris has filed a suit against her
neighbor had their data last months for the goats she purchased.
She paid nine dollars for five Nigerian dwarf goats in December. Yeah,
according to lawsuits, she believed the goats could be registered
with the American Dairy Goat Association that records goat pedigrees
(02:05:52):
and so they'd have higher values than unregistered goats. And
then there was a battle, uh, which means that they
did not give her the goats that she paid for.
Providing the fraternity would require about forty of the father
goat hairs follicles for a DNA test. They rejected the
application to register because the mail goat would not be
(02:06:15):
able to pay support. Well, there is because the neighbor
is not a member of this organization, so they won't
do the test on her goat. That's the reaction I
hope to poor dorf goats. No no goat support from
(02:06:37):
their daddy. Yeah, man, Yeah, that's the next level. I
don't know that we've ever done a story on the
paternity test of goats. We did a lot of crazy
stuff there. Um, but hey, when money's involved, right, and
you talk about breeding and and pure the purity, I
(02:06:59):
guess as you go through a products and everything else,
and you're gonna try to put a stamp on it
because we see this all over the place, right when
you get into supplements and you get into what's certified
organic versus uh process. Well, yeah, all the way down
right is and you know what's kosher what'snot. I mean
(02:07:19):
I met, I imagine I took some of the d
n A and mixed it and then it became um um,
he just Egyptian. You know. Now you're just trying to
throw something else in there. The biggest story of the
Tampa Bay Times has had a while. Then you are
the father? Oh no, I don't even know. That's like
(02:07:47):
I dropped the mic moment right there. LaVar is just
having which all the father, you are the father, so
the woman so so the goats offered to refund the money,
and then it got into the court system. I think
I've lost the LaVar. We'll see if we can find him.
(02:08:08):
As we continue here on Fox Sports Radio and the
n W s l on Fox You are not you're
listening to Fox Sports Radio. Now, that's the bottom line.
Find a hour of the program coming up in an
(02:08:29):
hour from now. You got heartening and Ardenburger will be
with you. Uh for now, you got me, I'm my
garment alongside the All American ride with me. For another.
We just had a good laugh about goat fraternity. We've
been talking about acute and optuse angles. We've got action
on the pitch this morning. We got Iowa Sam on
(02:08:51):
the board, got It's closed our executive producer, and of
course you've got Isaac Lowan Crown on the updates. Thank you,
thank you for being part all of our family, the
extended family here Fox Sports Radio. I know a lot
of weedy topics that we go in and out of,
but we like to have fun and too horrible to
Last week was heavy. It's still a couple of there's
(02:09:14):
some topics out there that are some heavy times. There's
certainly stuff that depends how deep you go the EBB
and flow and certainly uh you doing speak for yourself
on Fox Sports one every day and me being here
with Smith in the evenings here on Fox Sports Radio
ten pm, two am, Eastern time that we we've traversed
(02:09:35):
in a lot of it, right, because last week we
spent a lot of time on the Bubba Wallace situation
in NASCAR. And if you want to right, because if
they're talking about master suites, can't do that anymore. Now
we're talking about statues of Jesus Christ, they're talking about
(02:09:55):
pulling them. Do you heard that? We got that right,
You've got the I mean they took down the statue
of Yeah, yeah, you had the missions right, some of
the missionaries and and religious figures in that Junapara Sarah
taken down. There's now the big push here in Orange County.
(02:10:17):
You've got John Wayne Airport back up. So, I mean
you've got a stirring of a lot of renaming, rebranding, uh,
you know food aisles as well. I mean, I'm happy
that the acknowledgement of all of the derogatory things that
(02:10:37):
have surrounded our culture as a whole are being addressed.
But I'm just curious, why are all of these changes happening? Well,
that's just question where it's from nervous, right, I'm why
is everybody okay with this? Like? Am I the only
one in a three weeks, we're able to go at
(02:11:01):
Jesus Christ now and says everything changes. Les get a
little wild out here, man, But the the whole world changed,
and in a in a flash point in time where
we've hit a point where all of these naming conventions,
and we talked about it last week as related to
your former team, the Washington redskins and statues and monuments
(02:11:25):
and renaming of different parts of the stadium continues. Does
Dan Snyder at this moment, at this point, if he
doesn't change the name of that team, does that make
him a racist? That is probably the what is that
a one point four billion dollar question? Or whatever the
(02:11:46):
franchise or two billion or whatever it's worth. At this point,
I've asked myself that a few times. If he doesn't
want to change the name, does that make him a racist?
Because I know there would be a contingent that said
that was determined as soon as he said he wouldn't
after purchasing the team. But but there has always been
(02:12:10):
debates that kind of sort of go like from the
other side of it, it's like, Okay, we know Indians
that aren't offended by it and feel like it's a
badge of honor to be considered a red skin on
as as a pro team, like it doesn't offend them.
That has been used as a discussion point. There are
(02:12:32):
people who who will say that along with that, that
the tradition that has been built, you know, with Gibbs
and the fun Bunch and all those guys with those
Super Bowl wins, the runs is is it there's nothing
that you could look at with this history and say
(02:12:53):
that it's racial outside of the former owner. So my
question is, because that's how it's always been, combat it
is there's there's nothing that basically the argument is, there's
nothing that definitively defines the term rid skin as as
(02:13:14):
a racial term as or a slur towards any particular group. Now,
if you're looking at where we are right now, are
you looking at George Preston um marshall, what's his name is?
Did I get it right? Are we looking at what
took place with him? And is that a strong enough
(02:13:36):
indictment on him? Which everybody's always known that about him?
This has never been like a military secret like oh
my goodness, like we're just now finding out that this
guy didn't like black people, Like no, you know it
but I've been known. But I think that's like one
of the larger sociological questions to kind of ask in
(02:13:59):
what's going on this past month? But are we basing
the name of the team like like for the people
who are offended by it? Like understand, I'm just putting
this out here because I I do radio and we
debate topics, So don't take offense to me saying this.
I'm just putting it out there for discussion, that's all. Um.
(02:14:21):
I'm not saying for one second that this is not
a term that is is racially offensive to the racial
group that it applies to. I'm just asking in terms
of the argument, the argument has been put out there,
as I stated, where there are groups of Indians that
(02:14:42):
said it's not what it's being made out to be
by other groups. So that would be like a group
of black people saying that the N word doesn't really
offend me the way that or I don't look at
it as that type of a word, while a whole
other group of of black people feel as though it is.
(02:15:02):
You know, to me, maybe that's an ignorant comment. I
don't know, but I think it's kind of on par
um and I think the argument is that there is
still this continued fight to justify that it's not a
racial slur. I guess it's the point that I'm trying
to get at. And if that's the case, where we
stand right now today today, with all things given, if
(02:15:25):
Dan Snyder doesn't change the name of that that franchise,
does that make him a racist? And if it does,
if your answer is it does make him a racist
if he doesn't change it. You know, I found out
I didn't really realize this, but I felt that that
George Preston, George Marshall, Preston Marshall was the actual reason
why a ton of of Washingtonians and and Maryland UM
(02:15:49):
people and Virginia people were Dallas fans, right, they were
Dallas fans because they didn't support what he represent. Yeah,
I just learned that. I found it out pretty recently. Um.
It's interesting point is Dn Snyder has an opportunity to
actually show some good will and build some good will
(02:16:10):
in the community that I don't know how much he
has in it um at this point, But what does
that Where do you go if he doesn't change it
and continues even if he continues to resist it and
is forced to change it well, because that's the other
right sitting there from the NFL right now, right in
terms of where we're at. And but that that is
(02:16:33):
the larger question that I keep asking, is you know
what changed? And I know obviously we've talked about the
George Floyd video, We've talked about these different instances, but
that it sparked all of this which has been pretty
much in the open for years, right as you mentioned
George Preston Marshall, Right, John Wayne, those comments were on
(02:17:01):
on air and in print one keep on going down
with with or is it just the flash point in
time made yo samity sam gone, Well, they had to
take it, take his gun? Yea Elmer Fudd They took
his gun. Gone yeah, so and and now you saw
it. It It extended in the cartoons, Yes, you got well
(02:17:25):
from the Native American side of things, they've done. Look,
Disney has done some things with re releases Jump, but
for family guy Mike Henry, who had judged Cleveland Brown
for twenty years, will no longer voice Cleveland Brown because
guys right right, changing all that. So you know that
(02:17:45):
that's a whole other piece of this conversation as it
relates to as a black man. I'm happy that more
black people are going to get more opportunities in US
as a peep, are going to hopefully start being seen
to have value and not you know, to be American,
(02:18:07):
not to be this like stigma of of evil. You know.
So I'm happy about all of this. It just scares me.
It's like, where's it all coming from? Is there some
type of extensive plan, like like if I'm getting deep,
like just just to be deep, if imould just be
real here for I don't know, if I don't know
(02:18:31):
if it's X files. I mean, I think it's more
just kind of like down the line, like there was
a time where we were treated as livestock. You're putting
chains on our next you're not. You're not treating us
as as human human beings. You're not. We're not getting rights.
There's there's We've come a very long way from what
(02:18:53):
ancestry wise is related to who we are. Why now
are y'all making so many concessions? What is driving it?
And that it makes me nervous. It's like, all right,
you know, you got privately owned jails, you send people
to jail. You're still getting that that cheap labor that
(02:19:14):
you did when you like, there's so many different things
that I think about, Like it's like, okay, we'll do this,
but we're still going to be able to do this
and it still keeps things in pocket and maintains the
balance of the establishment. We came here, we settled, we
established this. This is how we're going to run it.
What now in has made the decisions to pull down,
(02:19:38):
pull down statues, like to to do all of these things.
I said that culturally speaking, as a country, we've gotten
so politically but I think a lot of people would
say we've gotten so politically correct that you can't barely
say or do anything without offending somebody and with that
offense having some type of repercussion to it. That's how
(02:19:59):
politically correct our country has gotten. But where we are
right now, like it's like WHOA took a big left
turn on it, like hair hairpin, Like I don't care
how it could be a McLaren. McLarens don't make turns
(02:20:19):
this hard. That bad boy gonna slide real bad squeez
goes out to wear a McLaren will cost you several
hundred thousand dollars. Very limited run yes, it will, Yes,
it will, Yeah, and then they made to be able
to handle them turns. And that's why it costs so
much money, because it's pure performance. And I'm saying, how
(02:20:42):
do you make that that hard of a turn and
start doing all of these things and making these concessions.
It's just a little bit unnerving to me. Curiosity of
how this summer continues as we await the return of
sports into your original question about Dan Snyder, unless something
else is discovered about him. If that's why I'm gonna
(02:21:07):
close it by trying to answer this is, unless we
get a Donald Sterling note that puts something up directly,
you're always gonna be able to couch it with him
in business because of the valuation, something we talked about
quite a bit last week. Find the podcast Fox Sports Weekends,
uh Arrington and Harmon on iTunes, Google Play, et cetera.
(02:21:29):
But to that point, right, he was able to say,
you can always put it in the dollars and sets,
and if that's where Daniel Snyder's head, I mean, you
played there. We know a lot of guys that have
come through that system that seems to be the be
all valuable franchise. But but he's a guy that it's
always seemed to be about the bottom line and cash
more than anything else. But which is interesting that if
(02:21:51):
this is a racial slur and the guy who owned
the team before was racially driven, it was easily most
most successful, highest rated franchise, highest grossing, highest word franchise
of all American franchises when I came to the team,
right but then, and that it's the question is is
(02:22:12):
it based on its location and what the NFL is
or does it Oh, it's but there's no way to
get away from it, right Like, you still have to
have the conversation of it's in. It's in a place
called Chocolate City, and it's it's it's largest members of
its fan base are generally black. Like talk to me.
(02:22:36):
It is one of the curiosity I played. I have
to say that I played for the team. So how
am I like? How am I to view myself? You know,
in terms of looking at this whole topic, because they're
The dilemma is is that it erases my my which
could care less. Actually it erases what my time there was. Well,
(02:23:00):
but you mentioned the Gibbs era, you mention ends and
all of that stuff. It erases all of those things.
That's the end you have to do. You have to
rebrand the old stuff too, because of everything that's going on. No,
I think the I think it would be separate. It's
historical now historical. The team in Washington was named this
until and Dan Sneider took a large step for mankind
(02:23:26):
and his reputation. When Roger Goodell and the United States
every government, I think that would probably be more more apropos.

We just solved all the world's problems just like that

This is Fox Sports Sunday. Thanks for hanging out with

a little bit about the NFL, and certainly in Washington,
some decisions to be made, not just how they're going
to get a team on the field, but in the
larger context of uh, the social discussions and racial discussions
(02:24:55):
that are going on across our land. And it's very
ift moving these past months, month and a half or thereabouts,
no question about it. So let's go to something and
perhaps a little more fun in the national football about that.
Exhale three two good? All right. So, according to a report,
(02:25:16):
Kim Pagoula told Vick Carucci of the Buffalo News that
went on she went on the headset and picked the
game after they made the playoffs, and they had a headset,
so she was able to listen to everything being said
and get an appreciation, as she put it, for the
offensive coordinator position, coach, head coach, and everything in how
(02:25:39):
the game moves. Speed of the game. Well, it certainly does, right,
And you hear people call out you know, they'll will
give you an example, and I love the way it
just flows into conversation almost as if they you can
hear the boots kick up on the desk to mock you, going, well,
you know we ran fly trap, venus fly trap, KRP whatever, uh,
(02:26:03):
and all these numbers and everything come into play and
it's like, I am look at that, look at that.
Whereas for her, she's not heard that language, right, so
it's all right now teach me potential for teachable moments.
But certainly the language of football and trying to understand
it is a is a difficult proposition. It times, it is,
(02:26:25):
It certainly is, and I mean it's something that you
have to spend and invest a whole lot of time
because it differs by organization. You know, somebody may call
the same exact play, but to turn and I think
that those were some of the things that Byron left
which was talking about in terms of the adjustments for
for Tom Brady coming into Tampa Bay and how they'll
(02:26:48):
they'll work to figure out what is connected to Tom
Brady's vote vocabulary as it applies to the calls, and
and what their their reads are and make sure that
they're running what he's comfortable with running. So, you know,
no same things exists for defense to Some people are
hammer people, some people are boxed. Some people say spills,
(02:27:09):
some people say wrong arm, I mean there. And then
when you start putting all of the different terminal terminologies
together and start putting that into an entire defense of
you know, study session, and you're talking through all of
these different things, you could get lost very quickly. You know,
talking about Okey Front's personnel groupings twenty one personnel, eleven personnel,
(02:27:32):
two personnel. You know what am I don't like? It's
learning a foreign language. It should be on you know,
then the hest offering on babel, and then you start
to get on down in distance. Then you get onto
two uh personnel groupings for the defense to counteract the offense.
So now you're talking about Nickel dime Um. You know
(02:27:57):
they have Okey, you have X backers that you have.
You know, there's just so many different, so many different
ways to approach you know, from the alignment, to the
personnel groupings to what the play is called. Can we
monetize this? You and I, how do we think LaVar
(02:28:18):
Arrington's master class? Well, you know what's interesting, we probably could.
But you know what's interesting about it is is that's
probably what made in a lot of ways, it made um,
you know, the quarterback Tony Romo. It made him very
popular during the course of this season because he spoke
a lot of times. He spoke in the vernacular and
(02:28:40):
called out things based off of the vernacular. Uh, and
I it makes you wonder like was Tony Romo able
to catch win or get get notes, you know, hitting
into the game as to what those you know, what
that terminology was for the teams that he was covering.
Because the way he spoke to us was very much
(02:29:00):
so in the way that it would be a regular
conversation of if football guys were sitting around watching a game.
Our conversation patterns are very different than regular civilians. So
so it's kind of interesting to have somebody who delivered
it so well, um where he became so popular. Um,
you know, so I think that that is something that
(02:29:22):
you know, maybe it is monetize herble. Well, look into that.
I think there's an opportunity. There's also an opportunity I
think here for the NFL, whether it's on an alternate
channel or something else. Think about the owners having a
chance to have the headsets on, but their mic is live. Hey,
get the ball to that cde Lamb kid. I want
to see what he can do. All of a sudden,
(02:29:43):
Jerry Jones is chiming in, Hey, hey, what is it? What? What?
What type plays? Is it? That ch'all calling down there? Now? No,
I paid that guy a lot of money. Get him
the ball. Get c D the ball, right, I mean,
I think I think there's there. Well, there's probably only
about five owners. You'd McCarthy's gonna crush it. Though he's
gonna crush it. We'll get it. We'll start getting into
(02:30:05):
our early season preview fun and excitement. How about dak
scientists tender right? I mean before that could have been rescinded.
We're talking about the schule that happen and if Dallas
did not want him, they could have pulled it. I
also think, and we we had talked about this story
maybe two months ago. LaVar was Kirk Cousins and his
(02:30:25):
comments of don't be afraid of the tag I have
to believe that. At some point Doc and Kirk had
a nice long conversation of how stuff played out. And
if I'm making two million dollars during the course of
a season, whether I got the contract that I wanted
(02:30:45):
or not to get thirty one for a year. The
next year I go from two million to thirty one million.
It's pretty good runs. I'm just saying, why be afraid
of that? Well, and then you can get tag If
you get tagged white, you make seventy million dollars, why
be afraid of that? Like, I know you want longevity
(02:31:06):
and you could get hurt. But you know what, if
you make thirty million dollars in one season and you
got hurt, God bless you've made enough. I think you
probably you should be okay. For me, you would have
to think, you would have to think you could live
off with entry. Well, that's always the key. You want
to live off. That's it people financial planning, to get
that money in the bank early, let it grow, but
(02:31:27):
it grow, no question about it. He's Lavington. Uh, there's
um a little sing to Eric Clapton song where we
come back he's LaVar Arrington, all American. I'm Mike Carmen.
This is Fox Sports Sunday. Coming up next, we continue
with the coaching side of things, but we'll switch to
the college game and a question that I want to
pose to you as a guy who's helping bring young
(02:31:51):
athletes ahead. But first it's Isaac Glowandgroun. He's got what's trending,
Michael and LaVar. For one of a few times over
the last three months, we have a dramatic live sports
highlights slay for everyone out there. The f A Cup
quarterfinal match in the Premier League with Arsenal and Sheffield
tied one one in the ninety one minute. A minute
(02:32:13):
into injury time, Danny saw Danny sALS the substitute from
t angle even once again up trauma. What's late? Leaders
restored in at a time and the lead is restored.
The geometrically perfect call courtesy of bt Sport one h
(02:32:38):
d Arsenal wins it with that injury time goal from
that acute angle to to one. Right now Southampton has
a one nothing lead over Watford at halftime. Back over
on this side of the pond and golf after three
rounds of the Travelers Championship. Brendan Todd has the lead
at eighteen under par overall. Dustin Johnson in second place,
(02:33:00):
two shots back at sixteen under. Phil Nicholson actually led
the Travelers after two rounds, but he's now six shots
back after he shot a one over seventy one on Saturday.
It'll be Todd and Johnson teeing off in the final
pairing later today at two oh five Eastern, about ninety
minutes from now. Michael and LaVar all yours, Thank you, Illo,
(02:33:21):
he brought us the acute angle. He's at Isaac Low
and Cron on Twitter. Quick note as well Jabari Parker,
who announced, Hey, I can't wait to rejoin the Kings
and go down to Florida, but said he tested positive
for the coronavirus. He was out playing tennis, so he's
filling okay. He was photographed on the courts there in
(02:33:42):
the Greater Chicago area. So you got that working for
you as well. Because it gets people nervous, right, I mean, anybody,
what's the positive test comes out? It seems like everybody
wants to just keep a list and a running list
of athletes. I'll guarantee you this. There's a lot of guys, women,
folks associated with sports who may have gone through this
(02:34:04):
that you're just not gonna know. I just think it's
the wildest thing ever that they're so like, it's just
so open. Yep. Another one tested positive name is like
this is still health related. Well, that's just it, right,
it's not hip hop. It's not hip hop because it's
not coming from the doctor. It's not coming from the
medical source. But why is this information being released at
(02:34:29):
such rapid clips like this? Well, I think to some
degree it's the hey watch them get over it so
it becomes a positive publicity. I'm not trying to be
a part of your hey watch me get over it.
Like I'm gonna get through it. And I'm gonna get
through it, like you don't have to be put like, hey,
you don't want all your Mike Harmon and Iowa. Sam
tested for the flu this week. Well, I mean you
(02:34:52):
want to know if Sam's playing hurt, because then it
might delay the uh the drops. I'm okay if if
Sam has to miss the to day because he has
the flu, why do we have to say, okay? Ten
new cases of the flu in the building this week
I tell you, well, no, that's a good point. But
in terms of you know, exposing maybe not on air,
(02:35:12):
but certainly us knowing whether it's the flu or not,
we do get a lot of questions for folks when
we miss a day, what happened to him? That's fine,
it's like the weather. Yeah, but but my whole radio
usually meets your hungover, especially when it comes to someone
like the legendary. I was saying, I'm just trying to
understand the perpetuation. Why are we perpetuating it by saying
(02:35:39):
here's another case of twenty eight people, here's another and
then but then we go into saying like Clempson football
players test positive for COVID, Like why is this information
that has to be disseminated like this? I don't understand it.
(02:35:59):
I think it cuts both ways, right, you can you
could please to two parts of the crowd. So testings working,
and here's what's happening. And they're young athletes and they're
not going to the hospital. They're asymptomatic, they're gonna get through.
So the positivity you look at this science and data,
and the other side is when folks just want to
(02:36:20):
aggregate a bunch of numbers. It's the look how many
people are getting the coronavirus? Right, and you have the
you know, insert the sound from any movie you've ever watched.
We're watching a plane plane scene in right now tip
(02:36:41):
more people, yeah from almost famous right when going down.
So you hear that, you know kind of thing that
I think there's no there's tatto. I think there's part
of part of the media side of things that that
there is the scare tact could look how easily it's spread.
Look at this, And so you've got the people coming
(02:37:02):
out like saying like, hey, I'm your Alba, I too
have tested PAUSI Hi, I'm Sean Payton, I too have
tested positive. Hey I'm such and such I too, Like
what hey man? This is where you then follow up
with the line, as you noticed, COVID nineteen has no
(02:37:22):
economic boundaries, how about this come out and say all
the other stuff you're dealing with medically? Whoa there, I'm
dealing with chronic scratching of my leg. Right, you got
what Sunday? You got Sunday morning, man, You dug what
I was not with? That might happen after a couple
of weeks in the bubble, but what I was saying, like,
(02:37:45):
why are we making it such a point to tell
what our our illnesses? Like, get over it, get treated.
Like I almost feel like if you you get you
get the illness, you treat the illness by being in quarantine.
Just keep it moving. The processes are in place, the
protocols are being put in place. You gotta be away
from people for from ten to fourteen days. Dad, do
(02:38:08):
what you need to do and get through it. Like
why are we making this point of telling every single time?
Like it's like we're waiting. It's you know, and we're
we're driven that way. We're driven to like, oh, such
and such died like oh man, really, like we'd be
waiting to hair if a famous person died Prince died,
(02:38:31):
not Prince Yeah, Prince man. Wow, that's crazy man, Prince died.
Like it's like we wait for this stuff. So it's
almost like this is almost like just just like presenting
when celebrities dies, like oh here we go, here we
go U c l A. They got ten ten new cases,
(02:38:53):
Like what the lord, it's a scoreboards. Yeah no, that's
what I mean. You've got the two fighting factions. I
think you and I it's the safe, trying to get
through it, follow the protocol, get through it, like you
know what, our our starting quarterback has it. Now here
(02:39:14):
we go like what, well, I think you're also trying.
If it's now the end of June early July, you're
trying to reinforce. Don't worry, He'll be ready for training camp. No,
ain't nobody else, nobody, nobody else's business is getting put
out there like that. Why are these athletes, like I mean,
(02:39:34):
because they make commoditize, because you know what they make
Ezekiel Elliott I agree, Like there's a lot of things
I don't agree with him. You know you saw a
dog bite yea. Anyway, Zeke got a lot of stuff
going on, But I do agree. Why is his why
is his his health status getting leaked out? Like if
(02:39:55):
you want to decide to say that this happened to
but here's here's the problem. Is he probably hold someone
Well they're trying to say, is agent confirmed it or whatever?
However it happened. But but that's the bottom line. Though,
as soon as you tell somebody, you've lost control of it, right,
especially especially if people are reaching out, hey, we haven't
heard or seen this guy I don't think you're gonna
(02:40:17):
tell people you care about, people close to you, but
to come back and it be put into the media
so casually, I just don't like it. Well, that's gonna
be some of your family members that done ratted you
out to, right, But for Zeke, I mean, I'm gonna
guess some family member talked to a reporter, but but
(02:40:40):
then the agent got a call and confirmed it, or
Eron chose his words poorly or whatever the case is.
But that's the other part, right, I just don't understand
why this has become such a a focal point of
of media is figuring out how to report all of
the people in sports that are getting it. And then
here's the thing. You can report people in sports getting
(02:41:03):
it this many in football, this many in basketball. Fine,
that's fine, but why are you calling out names? Like
why are you going so deep into it and so
intricate into it that you're calling out people by their names? Well,
I think it again goes to that part of that
celebrity you mentioned, Idris Alba, go back to Tom Hanks,
(02:41:26):
So those people's face, I know those people were coming
out in order to to combat like this is very real.
Stop acting like this isn't real. I get that part
of it, No, no beef, But why are reporters why
is this like a commonplace thing to report on who's
(02:41:46):
getting COVID at this moment? If you're not coming out
personally and saying I have it and this is serious
and I'm okay, I'm in good spirits, why is the
media putting out names and and and why are doing
so much close coverage of who? And how is that
information continuing to come out at the rapid pace that
(02:42:07):
it's coming out. Well, that latter part is is really
the question from whether it's the team's or family members
or how so we're getting paid to do it, right,
we could the merits there. The other is, I think
it comes down to, all right, the thought of if
he got it now, he won't have it in season,
which is not confirmed, you can, yeah, but the the
(02:42:28):
idea also that it's almost being treated like an injury
report at this point, right, So, I mean that's a
whole other thing. All Right. We got a story on
college coaching, gonna pick LaVar's brain on that coming up next,
and we'll also find a couple of wins because we've
got a couple of good ones for you today here
on Fox Sports Sunday. You're listening to Fox Sports. Come on, Charlie,
(02:42:53):
let's go ten minutes from now. You got Orneburger and Hartmann. Alright,
take it into your day on a Sunday. Wherever you're
going highways and by ways of life, be good, be
good to each other and yourself, be safe, and have
to have some fun. There's still a lot of good
out there, as we'll talk about here, and you find
your wins in a moment. Mike Carment alongside LaVar Arrington
(02:43:15):
here on Fox Boards up so, LaVar. There was a
study from the universally University of Central Florida UH their
latest report card that they call it the Racial and
Gender report Card ten points three percent of Division one
head coaches as they call it, people of color all right,
(02:43:35):
the all inclusive term. So trying to figure out and
this is just slightly down from last year. But now
the question is, as we talk about the Rooney rule
and we have here on the show, and it's always
comes up different ways to change it, to make it better,
(02:43:55):
more effective, et cetera. From a collegiate standpoint, like where
does that begin? I mean, you're a high school football
coach thinking about maybe you know what that that next step,
and you're preparing guys to go to college, Like, is
the what what's the bottleneck right in terms of just
(02:44:17):
getting that start. Yeah, I don't know, man, In terms
of getting major opportunities, it's it's a very grandfather ish
in type of industry. So if you don't have strong
advocacy from the inside, it's not gonna happen. So talking
about related back to wherever you may have gone to school, played,
(02:44:39):
et cetera. I mean, because you've got a lot of schools, right,
we always think about the power five, but then we
we extrapolate and well, even going back to just if
it's your regular school, you would have to find a
way to build your resume. Some people get grandfathered in
and never had to do anything except be born genetically
(02:45:01):
true to the coach that you know was there. So there,
that's happened quite a fit. I just think that there's
a ton of nepotism, Like I don't know that, like
in terms of the race card, like I get it,
but from my standpoint, my vantage point, it's just more nepotism.
Like these guys like I can recall every single coach
(02:45:24):
pretty much that I had had their sun there. Norv
had his kids, UM put them on the staff, had
his kid there. Uh, Marty had his kid and his
brother there. Uh. You know, It's just it's nepotism at
its finest. And it's okay because if the coach that
(02:45:47):
you want is is legit enough, you're willing to make
those concessions and then now you're able to get in
and build your your resume to actually go get your
own job when you want to go get your own job.
I mean, you look at Shanahan's kids, like these young
boys be they be with their dads. They get their
(02:46:09):
opportunities because of their dads. Know that that becomes the
the interesting part of it, Right when you have a
Shanahan with success, There's only so many jobs you can get.
There's only so many teams thirty two in the NFL,
and then we're talking about the hundreds and now I
don't know about the other I don't know about the
other sports and stuff like that. But when you start
talking about college football and stuff like that, it still
(02:46:31):
comes back to nepotism. It really does, and and and
a lot of it comes back to um like who
can sell tickets, who can get donors to to give money?
And let me put you all up on game people
like sometimes the money people don't want to get their
money to people that don't look like them. If if
(02:46:54):
I'm supporting something that I'm using my own dollars that
I'm pledging to make this thing better, I'm not pledging
them unless it's the person I want to pledge it
to that's coming in well. Also, the you talk about
the sexiness of a name. You're wearing your under Armour
sweatshirt today and what we were talking about under Armour
UH and U c l A and their contract which
(02:47:16):
I'm sure Steve and Rich will get into here shortly.
Let's find a couple of winds. Flocker room squabbles, struggling teens,
cheaters and no account owners. There's so much negativity in
sports that it can ruin your day, but not Mike
harm That piece here to shine a light on the
good in sports with a simple mantra, find your winds
(02:47:39):
alright first, one Virginia man, hot dogs are for the
first time were of any value. I find hot dogs
to be the most useless food dogs You're from Chicago. Mike,
doesn't mean I have to like hot dogs, and I
blame my my mom and from a cookout at one
point went with an inferior I do, yeah, no question
(02:48:04):
about it. Look good. But the Virginia man went to
the store to buy some hot dogs and decided to
play the lottery. Any one grand how about that? So
that's a win. And then we're going it here to
show the we talk about music a lot and culture
and everybody coming together. How we go out to a
Nigerian wedding and part of the celebration on the dance
(02:48:26):
floor ready the system of a down toxicity and you
see everybody head bagging and getting after it on the floor. See,
music knows no boundaries, bring us all together, just like
our sports that we're trying to bring back in the
(02:48:47):
month of July. And now you're ready to right, see
we might end up uh well, we might fight Steve
before we leave the studio. Now, hey, thanks for giving
