(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Locked and loaded, excited
to be with you tonight. Here on them Nday, lots
of NBA action, a civil war. Here in the studios,
We've got the Bucks and the Bulls my TV boat
race once again, even though no mirror titch, so I'd
say this right off to jump Buyer. I thought we'd
be on the same team because I didn't think you'd
want the Bulls to even win in the race for Zion.
(00:45):
I thought maybe that would we'd be on the same
team tonight. Bucks could use another victory against the Southern Rivals.
If I just want a better effort, Dan, That's that's
all I'm asking for a team that looks like they
actually want to play out a game, and most of
the time the Bulls don't me that impression. You know
tonight they were hanging now just out eleven, but it
was close throughout. You can at least take that close
(01:07):
throughout at a loss for you. I think we're both happy.
There you go. The moral victory is as the how
many ping pong balls can I get in my bucket
battle continues. That's the thing I play here every night
with Jason Smith when he's normally sitting alongside me, because
well that's all he's got as a Knicks fan, Jets fan,
and everything else is just trying to work some of
(01:28):
that lottery magic. Hoping a frozen envelope comes down the
pipeline some twenty four years later. But we'll get to
that as we roll. Hi on, Mike Armen, This is
Dan Buyer. This is the Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carmen Company Alive for the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios.

(01:51):
rose back up. Dan. We had a couple of weeks
of the NBA. You were in Atlanta for Super Bowl Week.
What was it all about? Trade? Trade, in you and
know even the players as they were coming on to
Hawk whatever product X player. Man, can you believe what's
going on with the Lakers? All about Anthony Davis in Atlanta?
Instead of the A T L It was about a
D and then had nothing to do with the Patriots
(02:12):
or Rams. I don't even think we got the game
talk until the actual Friday of Super Bowl fifty three
because there was so much going on. And honestly, Mike,
the NBA trade deadline ended up being a bit of
a letdown when it actually went through because there were
no huge names that were traded, yet we were still
talking about the NBA, And what do you know, because
Anthony Davis wasn't traded, we could still talk about him
(02:32):
if he was dealt to the Lakers. I think the
conversation changes that maybe we're not worried about as much
of what Anthony Davis is gonna do long term because
he would be in a spot that we likely think
it would continue. So the NBA kept their momentum. But
what do you know on a Monday, the NFL rises
up some not in a good way. Yeah, we've got
the fun and excitement of trade deadline, right Anthony Davis
(02:55):
still the how many suitors will the Celtics be able
to put together a package? Or are they just bluffing? Right?
Is this just a big game of poker for Danny
Ainge knowing Davis through his dad, doesn't necessarily want to
be there. But let's dangle some names, let's have some fun.
And we've see how that's resulted thus far for both
the Celtics and for the Lakers. In the post deadline play,
(03:19):
you had the game where the with the Rondo game
winner over the Celtics. Then the Celtics lose Kyrie Irving
to an injury, lose to the Clippers, and then yesterday
the Lakers go out and get boat raced in what
was a non effort against the seventies sixers. But today
coming off the strength of the Alliance, and we'll get
to the Alliance at about forty minutes from now, Dan,
(03:41):
the NFL has a couple of big stories and and
number one, I say we win because we'll get to
see Kyler Murray go to the NFL. But I have
to point out the biggest loser in all of this.
Baseball fans slash Scott Borris, because Scott Borriss Agency doesn't
have a football license. None of those guys do, so
they don't get to go and make millions off of
(04:02):
him deciding today through his Twitter post that he's gonna
take his talents and try football first and full time
and train hard, heavily up for the next couple of
weeks ahead of the combine. Scott Boris has probably had
a worse winter than anybody who's had the sixty degree
wind chills or in Seattle where you're buried underneath snow
right now, Scott Boris has had it worse. Considering his client,
(04:25):
Bryce Harper, still looking for that deal in that three
million dollar offered no longer on the table from the
Washington Nationals, although there were some hints maybe Bryce Harper
could be signing soon. The point is is there may
not have been a worse winter for anyone but Scott
Boris because of what happened. But the Kyler Murray thing,
Mike comes to to a head in my mind. With
this all along, we've just heard people say he really
(04:48):
loves football, and that always stuck with me for the
simple reason was, Listen, I played football in high school,
in middle school, in grade school, and I hated a
second of it, but we played like you played football
because that's what you did. And I really feel that
you have to love football to really want to play it.
(05:11):
And that's why I give so much credit to two
guys who are D two and D three and an
ai A who played football because they love football. And
Kyler Murray loved football. And when you started to look
at all of the reasons on why maybe football would
be a better option for him, it started to be like, Okay, well,
look he can he can make more money on a
(05:31):
guaranteed contract. I think the endorsements will be bigger with
the NFL, at least right away for for what he
could be. And now when you look at just loving it,
it would have been one thing if it was the
other way around, where he really loved baseball but could
have made more right away in football. But if you
really love football, then if it was a close race
(05:52):
at all, football was gonna win. In football one today, yeah,
it seems like it's gonna tip the scale. I mean,
we've talked to a lot of folks. At least I
know how I have game, and I don't want to
speak for you on this one. And then a lot
of guys like, look, I happened to be six seven
and big, so football became out. It became an opportunity.
Didn't necessarily love it. You had to love it enough
to keep going to practice. There there was something about
(06:14):
the not necessarily the game itself, but what it could
lead to you to keep you going through. With me,
the Good Lord stopped me as a fire plug, and
I wasn't. I wasn't growing any taller. I've already had
a couple of knee injuries and the love of the
game state, which is why I ended up coming back
to this route after a couple other career choices, back
(06:36):
to Yahoo and helping to build their sports site and
eventually becoming a Yeller because I love the game and
the game so much. But yeah, playing it wasn't an
option for me. For Kyler Murray, You've got all the
talent on both sides, But then the tipping scale of
he loves football. He loves football, as you said, like
that was always even if he didn't articulate it quite
so well in media availabilities, that's always been the story
(06:59):
behind the scene. Think there's a lot of questions as well.
Different scenario if you're a running back, if you're a
defensive back, if you're a wide receiver, and you're wanting
to play baseball like Dian Sanders did as a dB
or Bo Jackson did as a running back, and we
saw with Bo, you've got the hip injury and that
ends at all, at least a football career, and the
baseball career just wasn't the same. The thing with Kyler
(07:20):
Murray is you're gonna be protected more than any other position. Sure,
you're still susceptible to hits, and I know it's just
one hit, but realistically, when you look at when you
look at the careers of NFL quarterbacks, and I know
Alex Smith's situation now is is a different case, but
by and large, most quarterbacks are protected, and so the
(07:43):
worry about is he going to be able to hold up?
Is he going to be able to sustain? I think
that they'll they'll work away around that, and I think
that the the opportunity if he ever would want to
go back and play baseball obviously would still be there.
But to cash in for what you're gonna get your
the story of the draft. You're gonna be one of
these stories of the national Football League season. It's not
like there's four other quarterbacks in this draft class that
(08:05):
you're fawning over. He is really the guy. And Dwayne
Haskins had a great season at Ohio State, but you're
not gonna match that hype. So with all of those
factors going in, it just seemed like the right decision
for Kyler Murray. And a couple of months back, I
did a show next to Bucky Brooks, who was just
on with with the Odd Couple on Fox Sports Radio,
and Bucky said that there were guys who were saying
(08:25):
that he could be a first round pick, that that
definitely had him in the top forty. And now as
we've gotten closer to this point, and that was two
months ago, Now that we've gotten to this point, we're
seeing sure first rounder, possibly top fifteen, possibly top ten.
Helped a lot by what Baker Mayfield was able to do.
And you look at the money Jeff pass And of
ESPN had it. Murray returns one point three approximately of
(08:47):
the one point five million signing bonus money the A's
gave him last year. Four fits the remaining three point
one six million do March first. Now you go through
the numbers, and depending on where you get drafted. And
I think let's just taking the Lamar jack In contract.
We're talking nine plus million dollars for the four year
rookie deal. You go up the ranks and let's call
(09:08):
it what it is based on mock drafts and need
you're probably looking at one of a couple of teams Jacksonville,
Miami looking for a little sizzle. There's still some that
think Derek Carr could be out in Oakland to where
Murray becomes John Gruden's guy, you know, because he's fawned
over him a little bit that there there's gonna be opportunities.
(09:29):
I mean, Cliff Kingsbury, probably not with Josh Rosen there,
but you never know. Crazier things have happened. He was
telling me, you know, saying he'd take him number one overall,
back before he was an NFL head coach. So you've
got all of that cycling about to the baseball point,
like you can go back Tim Tebow showing you that
whether it's a novelty act, he got hits for power,
(09:49):
great story, whatever might be on a Mets roster by
the end of the year, right, and he just went
back after his NFL career, Kyla Murray, You've you've got
the hype machine that will roll off of your heisman
you're talking about. Look, you're forever set going to trading
card companies and signing for card companies because you get
to add the money for the inscription and the boosters
(10:12):
will take care of you. Nobody's worrying about Kyler Murray
as far as his dollars and cents. I don't think
in any of this. But when you talk about careers
you come into the NFL. Remember we used to do
fantasy shows where you'd be analyzing quarterbacks saying, all right,
these gay eight guys normally finish a year. That number
is more than double. Now the rest of the teams
may cycle through three or four guys because they don't
(10:33):
have a one. But most of your better quarterbacks with
better offensive lines tend to stay upright. And it's not
just it's not just salary. It's what you said, it's
everything that comes with it. I mean, whether it's it's
it's Nike who gives them a deal to end up
being their spokesperson, or another shoe company that may want
to outbid Nike. Nike just seems like the natural fit
(10:56):
for the simple reason of the bo Jackson and they
can lay that into something. But the point is, there's
gonna be a shoe company that goes out there, and
it's gonna pay him a lot. When Kevin Durant left
Oklahoma City, what were some of the things that we
heard were, Let's get him to a bigger market so
his shoe sells. Let's get him to the Bay Area,
and all of a sudden, Vin Durant can hook up
with tech companies and those people. Those are all opportunities
(11:19):
that now Kyler Murray is going to have wherever he goes.
And if you go to Oakland and you end up
playing in that system, you know, honestly, maybe a little
bit different if it's the New York Yankees, it's just
real sure. I mean it's a different height Michigan. It's
a different run. The part of it becomes the the
fast track. I mean, you're gonna go ride a bus.
You're just playing in front of a hundred thousand people, right,
(11:41):
you were the most celebrated player of this past season,
saying all right, even though you're number nine overall and
you got this bonus money whatever, saying I'm gonna jump
on the bus and I'm gonna become that guy toting around.
It's just incongruous when you can go and become a
starter in the National Football League today. And that's why
I was surprising that the A's were reportedly a bit
(12:03):
caught off guard, like they that we knew that a
decision had happened this week because position players report at
the end of the week and the Gates wanted to
know by spring training what was his decision. Then there
was the word that he was on the combine list
last week. But to be surprised by that, I don't
know how it's surprised, but to even be shocked by it,
I'm surprised that the AI's were. Bob Gale joined us
(12:24):
from USA today. He did a clip saying that, you know,
Billy Beans thought they were cautiously optimistic that he was
still going to come in even with two weeks before
the combine. I mean, I don't know if that's Cell
cell cell and trying. I think we're still going out.
I don't know, she's been hanging around this other guy
a lot, but I think we're still going out. I was, Oh,
(12:46):
we're not anymore, and you're not going out with him.
That's Valentine's Days Thursday. Hold on, man, what what what happened? Yeah, No,
we're kind of we're kind of still when does that
ever work out? That the oaklanda should have known thing
with the guy in the place, and major League Baseball
obviously loses in this in a big way as well.
We mentioned Boris and his team and the elves they've
(13:07):
taken because it's not just Bryce Harper, there's a lot
of his other guys that aren't signed either. But you
lose Kyler Murray and whatever you were going to make
negotiating all of those shoe deals and everything else, because
that's gonna go to his football agent. That goes out
the window. Nobody's feeling sorry for Scott Morris. There wind
maybe could have come on the back end of if
he ends up, if it doesn't work out in football,
(13:29):
then maybe that there's is some appeal to see how
he makes it in baseball. But there's no way that
you're gonna be able to do this with a quarterback.
By the way, you know, they just had the thirty
for thirty for Dion Sanders and relived him playing the
football game and then trying to ended up not playing
in the baseball game that night. You could do that
when you're a dB. You can't do that. When you're
a quarter, No, no chance. You gotta go one way
(13:49):
or the other. What major League Baseball loses. There's a
guy with star power, star potential, a name, recognition, that
crossover and what are we always looking for in baseball?
We're always looking for a star to sell, or at
least we are. Major League Baseball doesn't seem to care.
Rob Manford's worried about asa play and that's it. That's it.

pitching in whatever. As we discussed over the course of

(15:56):
buddy Pete few Tech over at College Football News dot Com.
All the tray aants for fun, What are these upstart
football leagues mean for college football? And well more Kyler
Murray and what you expect as he transitions to the
next level. But the NFL jumped back up in a
big way, some good, some bad, some ugly. Schedule leagues
will get into that as the show goes on. But
(16:18):
the Cleveland Browns making some noise signing the current member
of the exemptlist, Kareem Hunt. We still have a an
investigation on going. No firm dates. We don't get anything
from the league office, of course, in terms of where
things are. But released by the Kansas City Chiefs last year,
missed the final five games of the year, and now
(16:41):
signed by Cleveland already with Duke Johnson and Nick Chubb
on the roster. Nick Chubb, what are the exciting breakthrough
performers of the second half of the season. Once he
was given the ball nearly a thousand yards and and
a little controversy as his final yard yard age account
for the year and job that five yard loss against
(17:04):
the Ravens took him under a thousand yards for the season.
That's too bad. You talk about bonuses in thousand yards
because you remember you used to open packs of cards.
We were talking about this a little bit off air.
You know, you open the packs of cards back in
the day. Tops used to have the thousand yard club, Yes,
thousand yards because it's it's funny because you think about rushers.
(17:26):
Now there's secondary tertiary guys. You don't get very many
to a thousand or only eight this year. And well,
Nick Chubb, I love thousand yard club, by the way,
And I remember I had about ten Bill Brooks of
the Indians who had a thousand yards during a season
in the late eighties and tons of those. I was
surprised Mike by the move for a lot of reasons.
(17:48):
And as you stand back and look at the whole
situation with Kareem Hunt, with the Cleveland Browns and the
Kansas City Chiefs. The Kansas City Chiefs, to me are
the team that in all of this are the one
who bade the biggest price when they were the ones
who said, listen, you lied to us, you didn't tell
us all that was going on. We can't move forward
(18:10):
with you. See you later. They lost in All Pro
Pro Bowl running back for the stretch run when they're
trying to win a Super Bowl. We were talking before
the show, and it's it's not that Kareem Hunt would
have allowed d Ford to line up on side in
the a f C Championship game. That's not it. But
they were the one to really make the biggest sacrifice.
(18:30):
When you now see the contract that Kareem Hunt could
get with the Cleveland Browns and the five game penalty,
that something is already going to play into his possible suspension,
whatever it could be to start this season. I I
just am surprised. I'm curious on how the NFL will
respond because it seems to me that Kareem Hunt isn't
the one who is dealing with the most harshest punishment
(18:52):
of this, all of of them all. It's the Kansas
City Chiefs, while the Browns now get a guy on
on a discount and Kareem Hunt gets a little bit
more money and a chance to revitalize his career. In
a short span of three months, made an apology again.
Today you're talking about trying to get the second chances,
and that became the hot button topic of debate in
(19:14):
social media and certainly sports talk radio, sports television, and
and in Cleveland. Later on we'll get the pulse of
it from our buddy Kenny Rhoda. But the idea that
you know what, what's the statute, right, you missed the
stretch run, you got the off season and some sort
of punishment going forward. Do you have it? Ezekiel Elliott
member serves six games, there's no video tape. Well here
(19:37):
you have a tape from kicking a woman last February
at the incident in the Cleveland hotel. Waved in late
November and now reunites with John Dorsey, who did all
the scouting, who did all the evaluation on Hunt coming
into the league. Remember you have Kansas City also in
that interesting and for some a deplorable sets out of
(20:01):
rules that they've internalized, right, is that they kept Tyreek
Hill on the roster, becomes an All Pro wide receiver
and and now he's actually featured in comical bits on
the NFL dot Com. Has become because of his quitness
and speed down field. They've got him doing a bunch
of speed challenges against Usain. Both funny in and of itself.
(20:23):
But that gets released the same day that Kareem Hunt
gets back into the league, showing you well, the Chiefs
decided Tyreek Hill was still worth all the the tests
and balances and staying within their system versus Kareem Hunt.
Now there's three incidents that are being investigated reviewed involving
(20:46):
Kareem Hunt. Perhaps we're talking about the number that becomes
an issue for them and what they said, how much
they owned up, and that was the Chiefs saying, well,
he didn't give us the full truth and we found
out more it's petra. They took the hard line. They
lose a top player. Damian Williams acquitted himself nicely, was
the guy that did well. But the reality is the
(21:08):
Chiefs got they don't get compensation for the guy to
go into another another team so quickly, and you know,
you you lose a guy of that caliber. In the
middle of the year by doing what you think is
the right thing, and then Roger Goodell and company, the
investigations are always or seemingly never ending anymore. Well, if
(21:29):
if you want to, you know, question what the what
the Chiefs did with Tyree kill and compare it to
Kareem hunt You look at Josh Gordon and the Cleveland Bronze.
There's two different situations, the two different situations. But the
Brons tried over and over and over. But it was
this year where they were like, all right, enough enough
and we're gonna move on from Josh Gorton. Did you
think skills diminished? Did you really think it was a
(21:50):
problem because he did end up going to play for
the New England Patriots and I ended up taking a lead,
ended up leaving that situation and wasn't a member of
the team at the end of the year. But is
this John Dorsey trying to find another problem, you know,
a problem case to to try to correct. And I'm
Kareem Hunts is apologized to which she would apologize to
(22:12):
the girl in the video in the statement, that's something
that is that has always missed. It's always apologizing for
my actions. But I just look at the I just
look at all the parties, and if you were to
rank them of who got the like who's in the
worst spot, Well, the girl the victim number one, The
Kansas City Chief seemed to be a number two, and
the Browns and Kareem Hunters are three and four. And
(22:33):
there's something to me that just as around all for
a second chances. But Mike, this was this was November,
like this is this is December, Like this is a
couple of months ago. And now we're already all right
back on the train. And and this maybe had been
going in the works. We had heard that teams were interested,
and it was brought up with the commissioner about, as
he said, super Bowl week of when this investigation was
(22:54):
going to go. And if it wasn't the Browns, it
was going to be someone else that was going to
sign Kareem Hunts. It's just to me, of whoever it is,
it just doesn't seem like there was like we're already
moved past it. Two or three months. Alright, he'll service suspension,
they'll be asked about it by the combine. But by
the time Training Cup comes around, it's going to be
a moot point, and I just don't think that that's fair.
And one of the teams where things boiled up a
(23:16):
little bit was Matt Naggey in Chicago because there's a
question of Jordan Howard whether he's retained or not. So
there there was some of that, and and in Chicago
it became a very big issue, a very hot button,
uh topic of you know, the decision of what do
you want in terms of winning and production on field,
and what do you want out of your fifty three
(23:36):
man roster and what kind of accountability do they have
to the to the city to you know, being good citizens,
you know, for for lack of a better term. And
and that's where we're at in a lot of these
cases where you know, you're you're wondering, what what is
that statute? How how long does it have to go?
Because you also look at the alright, get a contract,
(23:58):
get him in place, and if things are unveiled that
are that haven't been revealed yet in the investigation, you
have the opportunity to cut ties again and shove them
right back out the door. So why not. It's the
that situation of you know only what you know. And
Dorsey would have done at the time, you'd think all
(24:20):
the due diligence bringing Kareem Hunt in the beginning, Josh
Gordon wasn't his guy, right. We always talk about being
the guy or or a woman who of your boss
in this business, in our business, right, you're somebody's guy
until you're not until the next guy comes in, et cetera. Likewise,
on an NFL roster, coaches and players on down, how
(24:40):
much of that investment do you want to take on
when it's already down? The pass said, it's it's not
just the brown some other team would have done it,
you know. So it's not like meant to be specific
for the Bronze, but it's like, all right, who's really
penalized here? Who really had to serve their time? And
to me right now, the team that signed him the
Bronze and the Kareem Hunter at the lower end of
the list, dy real quickly before we move on to
(25:02):
Pete Fucheck and get his thoughts on Kyler Murray. In
the college world Dan that online released odds, Kareem Hunt
plays first for the Browns one to four games is
two to one, five to eight, week five to eight,
three to two, nine, to seventeen is two to one.
Doesn't play at all, six to one, yeah, I think
after the nine week nine I think he's gonna miss
(25:22):
half the season. There you go two to one odds.
Dan Buyer, you can place your bets with him at
Dan Buyer on Fox. Find me over at Swollen Dome.
We'll talk to Pete Fucheck college Football News dot Com
get his thoughts on the collegiate world as we get
ready for the scouting Combine. But first we're gonna step
up to deb Carson. We're gonna find out what's going
on in a very crazy active NBA nine. How it is.
(25:46):
I am well, guys, and all of the streaks are
alive and well, we'll star in Houston exactly for three
got it straight point for James games. Now we're thirty
or more and he finished with thirty one Rockets beat
the MAVs one one oh four on Fox Sports radio
(26:08):
affiliate k b m E and the Rockets radio network.
Russell Westbrook streak also alive and well. Russ finished with
twenty one point twelve rebounds excuse me, fourteen rebounds, eleven assists,
So his triple double streak now at ten straight games.
Thunder beat the Trailblazers one twenty and one eleven, and
the streak of futility continues for the New York Knicks,
(26:31):
they have lost seventeen in a row. Calves beat New
York one oh seven, one oh four, and just for
you guys, the Battle of the co host tonight, the

buddy there? It is i'b dominating. We got football back
(28:22):
in the news instead of trade. Doc. Yeah, you've got
talking about the new league right that. We'll get to
that in the middle. Yeah, I know that. Well, I
mean you I just want to start with your tweet
Pete from earlier today, nine hours ago, to be exact.
Unlike Kyler Murray moving forward, I'm firmly and fully committing
myself and my life and time to pie. It's been time,
(28:45):
it's been coming for a long time. I've had to
make my decision between pie and tacos, and I've made
the flip to pie. I think I need to focus
my efforts on one thing that I think that's where
my future lies at this point. Well, there you go.
So Kyler Murray decided that he's gonna go find a
giant piece of pie as a first round pick in
the national professional segue right there. That's that's why they
(29:08):
have us, uh sitting here and drinking that coffee from
the machine, uh all night long. Uh yeah, So, Kyler Murray,
what are we talking? Top ten Jacksonville, Miami and expectations
for the next level. If you had asked a name
Shank you did last year at this time, where does
Baker Mayfield go? And I thought, even up until the
(29:32):
day of the draft that it was insane that they're
someone's gonna take him number one. I still do actually,
uh yeah, I thought Baker Mayfield was the twentieth round,
you know pick or so. But Kyler Murray he's smaller
than Baker Mayfield. He's certainly a lot faster, but he's
a whole different mold. But there's just no comp for
(29:55):
I mean, you can't just say, okay, well Doug Flutie
because there's another short quarterback. Uh, there's just nothing comparable.
This guy is really really small. So it's not a
question whether or not he's a good football player. He's fantastic.
It's not a question whether he's not. He's a winner
because he's like legendary high school UH player and obviously
(30:15):
great Oklahoma. He can play. He I just don't know
how many shots he can take. And I know the
krusty NFL types are all weird and out about how
is this guy ever gonna throw a pass over a
big NFL lineman because he's just not big enough. Pete
do Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield have the same careers
if they have to sit out, If they have to
(30:37):
sit out the year, that's a good we'll see this year. Now.
If Jalen Hurts becomes the number one pick in the
draft next year, then all of a sudden to speak,
there's something really seriously amazing happening in Oklahoma because that
just hurts. Hurts is good, you know, but Murray was
pretty good too, but obviously he took things from other level. Yeah,
(31:01):
I think it's partially, uh partially. You know, you're sitting
and watch a little bit in that system, but that
you just play and if you're accurate, you're accurate. And
these guys figured it out pretty quick. I don't know
if that matters so much as it does. Just this
system is very quarterback friendly, and as we saw at
least in one year of Mayfield, you can that does
(31:22):
translate to the next level. Pete fu Check publisher at

All Right, Pete, you mentioned the the Alliance, the A
A l America, A F sorry tea. There's so many
(31:44):
acronyms that go to That's why I just called it
the Alliance because I get caught up in the acronyms. A.
How much did you watch? Uh didn't you didn't. It's
not because I'm not because I'm a snob, not because
I wasn't joinsing for anything to watch. I just didn't.
I actually I think I watched the play and I
just like, I just I can't do it all right,
(32:05):
So psychologically, you know, after watching the Super Bowl fifty three,
you didn't want to see another field goal contest. I
could say exactly why it just for me in my world,
since I basically live a three day your pregame show,
I just it's it's because it doesn't to your point
of the super Bowl, it just doesn't matter. I mean,
(32:26):
I'm sure it will, but it's it's a minor league
football saying okay, it's cool. I'm not dogging it anyway.
I mean, it looks like it's far more legit than
you know, a lot of other you know, the XFT
foul certainly, and even more than the even the world
lead to a certain extent, so it should be interesting,
but it's it's minor league football. At this point, the
curiosity for me pete right, we had any the big
(32:49):
ratings numbers and that became the talk of the town
for an hour period. It's it's week one. We'll see
what the attrition is on the old line and and
what the hits look like and take their toll on
quarterback plays as we know, But the question becomes, you know,
since you're so immersed in writing for college football News
dot com and dominating you know, and living on caffeine
(33:10):
and sugar throughout the collegiate period, you know I had
right now by the way, well, well you never stops,
especially now that you've converted to pie full time. But
the idea of being that one of these leagues can
they can they go find a pile of cash and
really push this eligibility thing to a whole other level
in terms of very interesting. I've heard this from a
(33:31):
couple of people and it's at first I thought it
was sort of crazy, but if you really dig deep
into it, it's not insane. You're not gonna replace college football,
but what this can potentially do is be a solid bridge.
Where is the key to this is it's not a
gimmicky league. It's not you know, the the you know
(33:52):
like the XFL was or potentially will be, with just
lots of screaming and violence and they're just trying to
make a cartoon. It is. It is being played up,
and I think the reason why this might have a
little more staying power after week one is that it
is a real league with real football and enough players
that you recognize. You're like, yeah, okay, that guy could
(34:13):
potentially get back in the league or you know, I know.
So if it's seen really as a a developmental thing
where you're looking for guys who could potentially be a
part of your team being you know, Kurt Warner being
the highest end guy of that and uh, you went
back in the World World League. But uh yeah for
college football players, if this is a viable option and
(34:34):
this turns into the type of thing where maybe there
isn't that rule you have to be three years out
of high school. Yeah, okay, maybe there's something to that.
You're never gonna get the top guys to make that
jump to this league and play more than you have to,
but certainly there's a mid level group that would like
to show off what they could do and would absolutely
love to do this rather than you have to go
to class every day. Are we on our way to
(34:54):
the change in the transfer rules in college football making
heck everyone eligible immediately. We're gonna know what, Kate Martel, Uh,
you could kind of see when she Patterson got the
call from Michigan last year. The argument was, all right, well,
it's it's supposedly a hardship rule thing, and it's really
is that much of a hardship that you're missing out
(35:16):
on a bowl game that you had to leave Ole
miss and okay, and you guys have to be eligible
right away? Okay, Fine, the Justin Fields case I had
just anti didn't what touched that thing with a thousand
foot poll because of all the different implications. I mean,
at the end of the day, okay, is if you know,
if he's the starter over Jake from and he's still
(35:37):
in Georgia, I don't know, but I'm certainly not going
to question any kids intentions or thoughts when you know
you have racial slurs thrown at you. You know who's
gonna tell him, Hey, look, you know how you're supposed
to feel. So I'm all agreed, Great, fine, give him
the hardship for that. But Kate Martel, if your hardship
is that you've got Justin Fields now eligible and you
(36:00):
want to go play somewhere else, that's a little bit
of a hard one to swallow. So uh, the other
ones you can make a chase. For this one's gonna
be a little more difficult. You can find everything is

(37:45):
that coming up in about ten minutes, as well as
when when is it just lunch and conversation between friends
or when is it something more nefarious. We'll get into
that in a little bit, but we're talking about the
alliance kicked off this week and two point nine ratings
at its peak. You had some great contests. You had
one blowout, Steve Spurrier on the end running the Philly Special,
(38:09):
getting creative, laughing, at the Washington Redskins saying hey, I
was able to win there too, because he's won six
consecutive openers. Uh, saying hey, it's not easy to do.
Throw in some shade there, which is kind of fun.
I remember they won a game in Japan in the preseason,
I think, and it was like he won the Super Bowl. Oh,
I know soccer. Yeah, it was like it was. That
(38:30):
was early on in the tenure obviously, but yeah, I
remember that. That's what I remember from the Steve Spurrier
tenure with the Redskins. Well, it's good to have him
and a lot of the other you know, luminaries back in,
seeing Mike Singletary and and all those hindes Ward helping
with player personnel. There's a lot of good, uh at
least developmental things in theory for this new league as
(38:51):
you go forward. But a lot of folks you said,
you know, like Pete fu Tech. You know what, just
I watched a second of it and I moved on.
I found something else. Either Saturday night, Sunday night, maybe
you moved on. You were watching the end of of
the work from Pebble Beach or maybe off to the
Grammys after that. Whatever, the case was, But for me,
the question becomes, do you need some name players because
(39:13):
Christian Hackenburg and Trent Richardson aren't names enough to say,
you know what, I gotta watch this. The curiosity at
some point wears off if you don't have a name
that keeps you rope. I don't think so. And I
do think that the NFL has got to do a
better job. Even though we always showed up for what
was on the helmets, I don't think that that is
going to be the case. So even if even if
(39:34):
one of these leagues, whether it be the the Alliance
or the XFL, tries to make a push for someone
out of college, Trevor Lawrence is the name that you
brought up, and others have as well, I just don't
think that that's the case. I don't think that it
succeeds that way. I was surprised that the numbers were
what they were, and I was surprised that people said
that they still wanted to watch football. I understand still
(39:56):
wanting to watch college football. I understand still wanting to
watch the NFL, but football has it is. I was
kind of like Pete like, and Pete loves football. I'm
not saying he doesn't, but for me it was it
was enough. I'm ready to watch the hoops that's on
on our TVs. That's what I'm getting ready for. Ready
to watch spring training baseball. In a couple of weeks.
You start getting into spring training, white pictures, catchers reporting
(40:18):
starting as early as today. You've got the advent of
the The Combine is two weeks from today, right we
get into that. The Kyler Murray announced. We'll talk more
about that as the show goes on. You've got the
NBA post trade deadline, the All Star break will be
this week. And then we moved from there a little
bit of NHL creeping towards the playoffs because some of
(40:39):
your old traditional powers are having some nice runs to
get back into the playoff, excluding my Blackhawks. Had to
throw that in while I can. And then college buckets
were hitting that time of the year where everybody's on board.
So just a question of you know, sustainability, big start,
but where's the next big jump to get more people involved?
Coming up next, we get into tampering, yes, that dirty
(41:02):
word in the NBA at Saxton Fox. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show. With Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on

the streaks are alive and well. In NBA Action, the

thirtieth straight thirty plus point game. Also, the street continues
for Russell Westbrook now has ten straight triple doubles twenty
one points, fourteen rebounds, eleven assists as the Thunder took
down the Trailblazers one eleven, and the streak of futility
continues for the Knicks, They've lost seventeen in a row.
Cavaliers beat you New York one oh seven, one oh four,
(41:45):
Eastern Conference Best Bucks beat the Bulls in Chicago, and
the Raptors beat the Nets one seven. In football news,
Kyler Murley Murray has chosen a pro football over baseball

Lots going on in this great sporting world. The NFL
jumped up and roared big, announced by Kyler Murray's We've
talked about a little bit and will as the show continues.
Coming up in about fifteen minutes, we'll talk to Kenny Rhoda,
our buddy out there in Canton, who will give us
(42:49):
the lay of the land as the Browns make a
big splash by making the signing of Kareem Hunt. But
the NBA before the All Star break not to go
in quiet the end of the good night, Dan. Tampering
and chicanery really rules the day. Going out of the
trade deadline, the Anthony Davis did anybody negotiating good faith
(43:10):
on either side? How much was real to those leaked
trade reports? Right? I know you and I delving as
we do during the football season in the fantasy Land,
And I know this is how how you approached it was.
It seemed like a guy that really needed a fantasy
trade to go down, and he was gonna badger you,
and you just said five take it, we'll do it,
(43:33):
We'll do it. Here's five offers. Again. I've never sent
five offers never ever one Well, you don't send him
at the same time and be like, pick any of
these these are these are my beatless guys. Get him.
It's not what you do that's pick any of these
prices that I wanna Which one are you gonna take
the highest one? Okay, go ahead? That just doesn't make
(43:55):
sense to me. And so whatever went on behind the
scenes between the Pelicans and Lakers, it ended up being
good for no one with one side. I'm sure the
Pelicans thinking they got over and everybody thinking like, oh,
it doesn't matter. The Lakers may have been saved by themselves,
or the Pelicans may have saved the Lakers from sure stupidity.
(44:17):
But I don't know what's going on now post trade
deadline or what we're hearing about contact and this and that.
I don't know if that's being so stupid or so smart.
And I'm trying to decipher what is going on and
what we now call tampering in the NBA. Yeah, I
keep wondering if everybody lost in the process. Right, you
see the Lakers they go out and get blown out
(44:39):
by the Sixers. Not interested, just disinterested, non interested. Yeah,
it just seems like they're going through the motions and
and rolling through and the and the Sixers put up
a hundred forty plus points. You look at the Celtics,
they give up the big lead to the Clippers on Saturday. Granted,
Kyrie Irving gets hurt and we'll see how long he's out.
(44:59):
They say it's not serious with the knee. But you've
got all those names that started coming out, whether it
be Jason Tatums some of those other component parts. How
well that goes over in a locker room, and how
long and what what are the residual effects in terms
of camaraderie and being able to just be quote professional
about it. Right. You know, we work in a business
(45:21):
where there's rumors up and down the hallways all the time.
Everybody's got their personal lives. I sit in traffic for
a good hour and a half plus each day, so
your mood may vary a bit. You know what, once
the red light goes on, you got a job to do. Inform, entertain,
be good to the person sitting next to you, celebrate
our guys on the other side of the glass, deb
(45:42):
giving us information as the night goes on, and we
have a good time. That goes out there and and
most of the time it's pretty easy to do that.
Every once in a while, not so much you carry
that in into these soundproof rooms. Likewise, in a basketball locker,
where you're around these guys all the time you're traveling together.
How much does it? What's the residuals of having your
(46:03):
names be out and about in trade deadline talk when
you're twenty one to twenty three years old psychologically, when
you've always been the prized component in recruiting and everything else,
that now you're you're a disposable, interchangeable part. Misery loves company.
It's it's it's a bottle that many people live by.
And I would say this that at least if you're
(46:25):
the lakers in that situation, there's a bunch of people
around you that can can sympathize or can can empathize
with what you're going through because they're going through the
same exact things. So when you're throwing five names in
a trade, it isn't like it's one guy or one
guy in the trade deadline in Major League Baseball. Granted
that player is the wanted player like Anthony Davis is,
(46:47):
but at least if you're looking at being moved, and
Kyle Kuzma, I thought last week, addressed it in the
best way that you could, whether you're twenty three or
forty three and saying it, hey, at least it means
that you're wanted or that somebody wants you and that
there's a value in you, because there's a lot of
(47:07):
truth to that. And when you look at someone like
Kyle Kuzma, who would be the really the big play
of the deal, there are actually maybe more positives than
someone like Alonzo Ball who wouldn't want to go to
New Orleans or someone else that was thrown into the trade.
Maybe all of a sudden, that team becomes your team.
So there there are different ways and different things that
(47:29):
you can look at it. But at least in the
Lakers case, if you're questioning about all those trades, are
feeling bad about it, there's two guys sitting to your left,
and probably two guys sitting to your right that are
going through the same thing, and a couple of seats
down is the guy that wanted to trade you. He's
off in a different room somewhere else, doing his own thing.
Um Tanya Ganguli at one point covers the Lakers you know,
(47:51):
talked about when Lebron came back from his injury, how
quiet got in the locker room when he first came
back in and was gonna start getting dressed. That you
know I need laughing, any jocular And this obviously right
as the trade talks started to heat up, that everybody
knew they were on notice and potentially being shipped out.
So now they moved past that. We see where it
(48:12):
becomes for the Pelicans, possible loser number three in this deal.
In terms of dealing with egos, you might have gotten
by far whatever the true offers were, right and we
these are all rumored, but let's let's just call it
if it's at its face. If you've had all those parts, now,
your football people that run your ship would have needed
(48:34):
to stop crying about the Saints loss for a minute
to take care of basketball business. But in theory, you
would have been a better position today. If you've taken
that trade now, you wouldn't have been able to necessarily
spin out all those guys that you didn't want before
the deadline expired. But there is a place, as you
(48:54):
mentioned for Kyle Kuzma there if you decided that wasn't
a building block Lonzo Ball, there's more than a few
teams and I think would take on even with this
old man starting to roar again, that they would take
him on as well well. I also think that if
you're the you're the Pelicans, there there could be an
opportunity for how do you say it? If the Pelicans
(49:15):
needed to make a change. If you haven't been able
to surround Anthony Davis with the winning cast, likely there
could be some change with some of the positions there.
So if you are a Dell Demps, do you want
to do the deal? Is your job on the line?
Is you're doing that deal sealing your own fate. There's
a lot of things on that end that I don't
think it talked about too much. And I thought that
(49:35):
the Lakers were unprepared. Now that could be wrong, or
someone saying that stuff has been going on for months
that there could have been that they could have known
that they were going to put something together for Anthony Davis.
But I just wonder that why are you sending five offers, Mike?
It could be the exact opposite or the the exact
same situation. Excuse me with the Pelicans of how do
we construct a winner here because for some reason we
(49:58):
can't do it with the top five, top ten player
in the NBA. We were able to do it last
year and then made some poor choices on who to
keep and who not to keep. We tried to bring
in a DeMarcus Cousins, then he ends up getting injured.
But you can't maybe do that trade when you're trying
to reset for an organization in that span of two weeks.
And I don't think that that gets talked about enough
(50:20):
because this is there, This is their lottery ticket, like
like for for what it is. He was he Anthony Davis.
They won the NBA Draft lottery with him. But you
have to make sure that you get maximum value and
figure out how you're going to reset that franchise. And
if you just give him away for a deal that
(50:41):
you aren't prepared for, then you're in trouble. Yeah, And
then going forward who knows what the deal is that materialized.
As we've talked about going forward, you know, you're you're
looking at all the free agents to be if guys
opt out and actually move on. Lebron James joked about
it in selecting his all star lineup for this coming
week's activity at Ease. But one figure in the middle
(51:02):
of it all Magic Johnson, poster child for the league
for these last forty years. The Magic Johnson smile gets
everybody involved and everybody gets excited. But behind the smile
got a guy who's saying, look, it's only me, it's magic.
I'm harmless when time after time we've already gotten to
tampering charges and now the Lakers being investigated for a
(51:24):
third surrounding some dealings with the Sixers. But before that,
Magic Johnson had to address over the course of the
weekend what all went down during the trade deadline and
what he expects from players going forward. He reached out
to me, not not to me, directly to the Lakers
to find out if we can get together this summer.
(51:45):
I said, hey, you got to clear with the league,
and he wants to know how to play the position
of the big card. It's fine, you know, I will
do that, but if everybody doesn't sign off, then we
can't get together. Now, Age Johnson, addressing the the talk,
UH told the Lakers players they got to grow up.
(52:06):
They're not babies and stop everybody should stop treating them
like babies. Minutes after saying that he was gonna give
everybody a hug and talk to them individually. But the
thing that pushes forward in this narrative is Ben Simmons,
another Rich Paul client UH in Philadelphia, who allegedly, after
the season wants to go meet up with a bunch
of Hall of famers and all time greats and pick
(52:28):
their brains. And one of those that he wanted to
talk to well was Magic Johnson, which on the surface
is fine if Magic Johnson is not currently employed trying
to build a whipper in Los Angeles. So that's the
discussion of Hey, you know what, reached out and I said,
go through all the proper channels. Magic Johnson needs to
shut up. Well you're gonna you can have these conversations
(52:51):
behind the scenes unless they've got an ankle's bracelet on
Ben Simmons or in a chip that this guy you
know that gives you the location of Magic Johnson nearby,
or he's got a private investigator trailing him, you'll be
able to work together. There's twenty four hours in a day.
They're probably not watching you constantly. Dan, Well, it's pretty
(53:11):
it's pretty obvious that Magic Johnson doesn't understand optics because
he's blind to the fact and how this could be
looked very in a very strange matter, even if you
count a permission slip from the Philadelphia seventy sixers, like
that's that's how this went down, Like the Lakers had
to release a statement saying that the seventy Sixers allowed
Ben Simmons to talk with Magic Johnson about how to
(53:36):
play basketball. It is Jimmy is allowed to go ride
the school bus after school like that. That's that's what
we've gotten to. But for Magic, with the tampering that
you talked about with the past with Paul George, with
the other questions that have come up, whether it be
with Anthony Davis and and Clutch sports, you have to
realize that these are things that you just hadn't do.
(54:00):
And I'm not saying that Magic is a cheater, That's
not what I'm saying. But Magic Johnson probably hasn't had
to play by a lot of rules throughout his playing Creacers.
Magic was the guy who always got the calls. Magic
was a superstar in the NBA. There are also rules
when you aren't playing in the NBA that you do
have to follow, and even if you think you're following them,
the optics of them maybe odd. And if I'm the
(54:22):
seventy sixers, go talk to Penny Hardaway, like go talk
to don't talk to another guy where maybe, just maybe
if you find value in Ben Simmons that he could
lore away to the Lakers. There are other tall point guards.
I know Magic did it the best, but there are
other guys that you could talk to as well. Well.
That's that's the funny part of this, right is is
that you've already been slapped for I believe it's five
(54:45):
fifty dollars in tampering. Remember on Jimmy Kimmel famously, Uh,
they discussion with Magic Johnson that you go through this
process and you've already been slapped on the hand twice.
And he's built successful businesses. He seems to know the
rules of business engagement. And you think being a lifer
in the NBA, particularly with what's going on with Plutch Sports,
(55:06):
Lebron James these last couple of years. There's a sensitivity
in the league and what is going on with superstars
and stating their preferences of where they want to go
opting out after short term deals. There there's there's a
very big even if Adam Silver looks like he wants
to sit on the sideline, there is a sensitivity to this.
There's a sensitivity because if you had to pick a
(55:28):
league that you thought was rigged in professional sports, the
NBA would come up four out of five times. You know,
whatever I be with Tim Donnie, whether it be with
the Knicks, frozen envelope, whatever the case may be, the
NBA's credibility. And I'm not saying that that's fair or unfair,
true or not true, but the fact of the matter
is that's what the perception is. So if you so,
if you're the NBA, you're going to go through all
the steps that you can to try to shake this
(55:49):
image that's still hangs around the NBA. Right because during
the trade deadline, a lot of it was all right,
here's the power play from Lebron James, his agent and
Lebron James is pulling the strings on the league right,
He's gonna get what he wants. Anthony Davis goes to
Los Angeles and another super team is thus formed. Elton
Brand running things there in Philadelphia. He jumped on five
(56:13):
The Fanatic and talked about this phenomenon as well. Robin
Lincoln called me and said, hey, um, you know we're
hearing Ben wants to talk to Hall of Famer's championship
level players and uh, Magic's on the list. We need
authorization for him to meet up And I said no.
I said that was over a month ago, so something
that had been working in the background during this entire process.
(56:35):
But for for Magic Johnson, this is the I'm going
to continue to smile and wink at you because of
my popularity and I'm universally loved. Even the Magic Hour,
when people bring it up and try to throw shade
at it, they do so lovingly because it's just part
of the process. So for for Magic Johnson, this is
the I'm gonna keep going back to the well and
(56:56):
it's just lunch. It doesn't mean anything, just hanging out.
You know what, you gotta eat, Dan, I gotta eat,
Let's go, let's go have a burger. Let's go have
a tasty burger together. You know, I bought some sliders today.
Let's have a slider together maybe and just hang out.
So that that's the thing. Magic Johnson thinks this is
tries to dismiss it. Well, we asked for permission, you know,
(57:18):
go through the proper protocols whatever. You know, the league
is in a very sensitive place, and your smaller market
teams feel like the the decks already stacked against them. Garbage,
by the way, perception reality is always the case. But
the players have certainly picked up more power and they
exercised it more than they ever had, right because you
(57:40):
can't get paid anywhere. Yeah, listen, I I've I'm a
Bucks fan, and there there. When you talk about small markets,
the Milwaukee Bucks are one of them, and you see
how they've turned it around. That's why now I'm no
longer I'm not using that for small market excuses anymore.
There's ways to do it if you actually care about
your franchise. There you go. And that's the question. If
the money keeps rolling in, how many really do oh

our buddy, Kenny Rohn and Kenny. What's going on? Buddy?
A lot going on? And the Cleveland Browns right in
the thick of everything after a very good comeback year
where they want seven games after losing all sixteen. Uh
(59:44):
and Baker Mayfield a very popular player throughout the league.
Of interesting stuff coming down today with John Dorsey and
the signing of Kareem Hunt. Well, that's just it, right,
you got Baker Mayfield continues to fight with people on
Twitter and sports media types. And now it's former Texan
star Arian Foster. But that was put to the undercar because,
as you say, Dorsey goes back a guy, he's scouted guy.
(01:00:07):
He processed into Kansas City becomes the guy there. You've
got Nick Chubb, You've got Duke Johnson. How's this going
over and what's the initial reaction there in Cleveland. It's mixed,
as you can imagine. There are gonna be people who
are Browns fans and look at this is added depth
to the running back room. This is a rookie of
(01:00:28):
the Year who led the league in rushing in his
rookie season, and uh, he's got some off the field
issues obviously, but we'll see if um, you know, he
has charged. I think the woman that he shoved and kicked,
as everybody saw that on the videotape, she's got up
to eighteen months from what had happened to to foul charges.
None have been found yet, it's still being investigated. So
(01:00:50):
I think some Browns fans are out there thinking, well,
if he's not charged and Roger Gondell lets him back in,
this is added depth to a team that's on the rise.
And then you have the flip side that where people
are appalled that John Dorsey would, you know, bring Kareem
Hunt to the Cleveland Browns after everything that he's done
to this point. Guys, John Dorsey. Every move he's made
(01:01:12):
pretty much has worked out for the Browns. The trades,
the free agency moves, the drafting up Baker Mayfield and
Nick Chubb in the second round, in other draft picks.
So you know, in Dorsey, we trust is what I
think a lot of Browns fans are thinking. But I
think today when this came down, there were some very
shocked people, Kenny, were there any are there any parallels?
And I know the situations are completely different, but the
(01:01:35):
Brown cycle of Josh Gordon and and and did so.
And he went out to play for New England this season.
And while while he didn't finish the season there, the
Browns did cut baits saying all right, enough is enough?
Where anyone was anybody taken? Maybe caught off guard because
I got the sense that Dorsey was taking almost a
stand and tried to take the organization back. Any any
(01:01:57):
backlash from from how they handled Gordon from the smooth today, Well,
don't forget Michael Kendricks too, who signed a one year
deal with the Browns and then he was released in
late August after being charged by federal prosecutors with insider trading.
So they got rid of him, Uh, if you watched
on Hard Knocks this year, there was a big to
do about when Josh Gordon was returning. Hugh Jackson, then
(01:02:20):
the head coach, the Eagle has landed. He said something
like that to John Dorsey and they were all excited
about it. He catches a touchdown pass against the Steelers,
they end up in time, and then he misses a meeting,
hurts his hamstring, whatever the story was, and the Browns
decided to cut bait traded him to New England. So
you're thinking, okay, they are taking a stand. Kendricks got
(01:02:41):
rid of them, Josh Gordon got got rid of them,
so they're trying to change the culture. And then you've
got John Dorsey today surprising a lot of people by
going out and signing a player who was cut for
his off the field issues in Kansas City. But remember this,
John Dorsey was the guy who signed and drafted Kareem
Mount coming out of college at Toledo, and so a
(01:03:04):
lot of times guys like that are are willing to
maybe roll the dice, take a chance on somebody that
they think they know better than everybody else and that
they feel deserves a second chance. And that's what he's
doing here. I think with Kareem Mont to some degree,
Kenny is it is it just also a little case
of feeling like you've got that in Dorsey. We trust
momentum there in Cleveland off the year you had, and
(01:03:26):
that from a risk perspective, yeah, you might take a
little bit of a heat here for a bit, but
it's all wins and losses for coaches, players and executives
when it's all said and done. Absolutely they would pay
him a million dollars. I think a one year deal
for a million bucks. So financially it's not a big hit. Obviously,
(01:03:48):
if there are other issues off the field, this will
come back and make them look ridiculously bad for for
taking a chance. However, you know, Tyreek Hill was an
interesting case and John Dorsey drafted at him in Kansas City.
He had off the field issues, domestic issues before he
was drafted. They drafted him and he's been fine. So
(01:04:08):
John Dorsey today and his press conference, and I was
happy to see the Dorsey held a press conference because
originally all we got was a press release from the
Browns with a statement from John Dorsey and an apology
and a statement from Kareem Hunt and that was it.
And I'm thinking, wait a second, you're you're gonna go
out and sign this guy and you're not gonna face
the media. Well, later in the day, maybe they took
some heat for this, more than they thought they would,
(01:04:30):
and he did address the media and talked about second
chances and how he was remorseful. Kareem Hunt was and
you know, there there'll be zero tolerance. If he steps
out the line, he'll be gone. There's nothing guaranteed. But
I think, you know, is the juice worth to squeeze
in this situation? And John Dorsey obviously thinks it is.
How much more of a spotlight is this move because
(01:04:51):
Lebron is no longer in Cleveland? And the reason I
say this, Kenny, is usually this time of year, you'll
be talking about the Calves and now there's not it's
to talk about. And now the Browns are we think
are on the up and up. Like, how much is
this move magnified by the landscape of sports in Cleveland.
I wouldn't say it's magnified, but because well, the Cavaliers
(01:05:13):
wont tonight the the game you don't want them to
win if you're in the land, right they got They
beat the Nick tonight by three. Uh, you know, and
follow a couple of games behind New York and in
Phoenix for the worst record the draft thought, you just
want to be in the bottom three now, so you
have a shot at it. Anyways, Yeah, Lebron not here
and the Calves aren't the focus. Sure, this brings it
to the forefront, but guys, even when Lebron was here,
(01:05:36):
the Browns are a major topic, good or bad. This
is a football first town in Cleveland, Ohio. So now
that the Browns, like we said, I had a good
rebound year and Baker Mayfield, the first overall pick, lived
up the expectations uh and has been hitting the you know,
the TV circuit and the doing things that the first
(01:05:57):
overall pick in the draft should do. I guess off
the field as well as on the field. They are
front and center, and this just took it to another level. No,
he basically called my my partner Jason Smith the clown
after a tweet he put out a couple of weeks ago.
So we've got our little piece of Baker Mayfield magic
in the media world. Baker is not one to change.
He believes in what got him here is what's going
(01:06:20):
to get him even further. So, um, he's not going
to back down. And you gotta admit the guys quick
with it. Man. Uh, you know, with with everything that
that he's done, he has a good comeback with everything,
and then he backed it up on the field. So
we'll see if he can continue to do both. Did
they finally burn that jersey with all the quarterback numbers
going back to I don't think so. It might be
(01:06:42):
headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame if Baker
can lead them to a championship with his last day
on the bottom of that jersey. So hopefully, you know,
he is the guy for Browns fans everywhere. He's the
guy that can lead this team as the franchise player
and get them to the playoffs. I already picked them
before the season ended. I picked them to win the
division next year because Cincinnati is a joke. I'm not
(01:07:05):
buying the Lamar Jackson stuff in Baltimore, and the Steelers
are an absolute mess. They're They're what the Browns used
to be with some off the field issues and everything.
So I think the Browns, with eighty million to spend
in cap space, tend draft picks and some free agent signings,
although this one's a little bit questionable. I think the
Browns have a great chance of being that team that
(01:07:25):
goes from zero wins to third place to first place
in a matter of about a year and a half. Yeah,
people don't realize that the expansion at the Pro Football
Hall of Fame was just to fit that jersey. That's
why they added so much room. They didn't realize that. Yeah,
it's gonna be too It covers two floors. That jersey
they started off the text board. It drapes down to
the first floor. I think is the plan trains for
(01:07:48):
a royal wedding, no question about it. Kenny, thanks for
popping on with us this evening. Lots of activity there
in Cleveland. Uh and now you've got the Indians getting
ready to go back to work. So good times all. Yeah.
Hopefully Frankie Lindoor is not out too long though with
that caffe injury. So there's there's always something the gift
that keeps on giving Cleveland sports. There you go, there's

first we step out to deb Carson. There's a lot
of NBA to get caught up on. She's had a
lot of caffeine and is ready to roll through those
scores now absolutely In fact, the late games are all
in the books already. The Nuggets into their three game
skid with a one, three, eight seven win over the
heat Nickel or your kitch with a double double, they're
a double double. Also for Carl Anthony Towns is the
tea Woll stop the Clippers one thirty to one twenty,
(01:08:52):
and the street continues for Russell Westbrook his tenth straight
triple double thunderbeat the Trailblazers one one eleven. Oklahoma City
has one four in a row. Rockets beat the Mavericks
one oh four, and of course all eyes were on
James Harden. He had thirty one points. It's thirty straight
thirty plus point games for Harden. Nicks have now lost
(01:09:13):
seventeen in a row, So that street continues as well.
Cavaliers beat New York one oh seven one oh four,
Pistons held off the Wizards one twelve, Pistons of one
four in a row, India's one six and a row
Pacers top the Hornets nine. Finally, the Bucks beat the
Bulls in Chicago one twelve at ninety nine, and the
Raptors took down the Nets one seven, one five. The

Pittsburgh Penguins took on the Philadelphia Flyers and Monday's Discover

Welcome back in the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen
here talking Kyler Murray and he decides the number nine
(01:11:01):
overall pick of your Oakland a's. You're possibly homeless Oakland
A's here. In the next year or two or whatever,
they can finally get a deal done to move out
of the Oakland County Oakland Alameda County Stadium. And to
make sure I get right, it is not. It's not
a fun place I started detending games there's some twenty
(01:11:23):
plus years ago. Uh, not the the best environment. And
certainly you know, the base paths for football remain in place,
probably for at least another year with Raiders. But when
we talk about Kyler Murray, he gives up the nearly
nine million dollars or thereabouts um possible with the Oakland
A's four point six is the number that you see
(01:11:45):
quite often, right, yeah, you know, like who cares like
there's you gotta look at you gotta look at the
total picture. And and with with that, like we're we're
comparing salaries in this and that. Where are you gonna
have the opportunity to be a biggest star? And if
you want the money now, where's more of the guarantee now?
And so the football money now matched up to it.
(01:12:05):
You mentioned that that, you know, Jeff Passons saying that
he's gonna have to pay back about one point three
million of it, So you didn't even have the three
point six million. So it's not like the other that
back right, he he gets the pocket whatever his living
was some two undergrand thereabouts the other three point one
and change didn't materialize. Fine. The thing for me is,
(01:12:27):
you can go play right now. You don't have to
ride a bus, you don't have to go work on
You're gonna work on your skills while getting paid as
a starting quarterback in the National Football League. Right It's
much different than hey, you know what, go down to
double A or high A or wherever they'd start him,
and start working your way forward. Although with the A
is who knows you might be on the roster pretty
(01:12:48):
fast just to try to get a complex ram you
could and nobody's still gonna know who you are. And
and and that's another another minor part of this. And
the A's can try all they want to try to
convince him. There are reports now saying that they are
going to try to convince him to come back and
play baseball. And it's just for a simple fact of
the A's, who are a pretty good baseball team, they
(01:13:09):
just don't have the notoriety. Yeah, this is a big
l for Major League Baseball, but this is the NFL,
and the NFL is is king, as we like to say.
But the opportunities financially outside of just stepping onto the field,
whether it be a baseball field or a football field.
In my mind, far out way what you could get
for a baseball player. It's sure it'd be nice at
(01:13:30):
some point if he could get a twenty million dollar contract.
But i'll tell you what. Now, in Major League Baseball,
with the last two off seasons that we've seen, who
knows how much those contracts are going to be. And
I'm not saying that if Kyler Murray makes the big
leagues that he wouldn't get some sort of deal that
would be better than what he got in the National
Football League. But baseball contracts these last two off seasons
(01:13:50):
are real big questions. So you throw that into it,
and that's, by the way, is way down on the list.
The point is that he can be marketed as a
starting quarterback in the NFL. You got all those different
opportunities to be paid right away. With the contract that
he's getting, it only makes sense, it really doesn't for
a guy who loves football. That's what it all came
down to, is baseball is the one that really had
(01:14:11):
to outweigh it. And if it was close at all,
or if Kyler Murray was just going to be the
backup and didn't succeed in Oklahoma, then he had a
baseball career to fall back on. What for somehow the
narrative changed Mike because it was Kyler Murray is a
baseball player who thrives in football, and that just never
was the king. Well, but that's stay you signed the
baseball deal, right, so now you became the baseball player
(01:14:35):
who happened to be good at college football, and not
only was good at college football, becomes a Heisman Trophy
winner in college and sets the world a flame and
became one of the stories that ran throughout the year.
Size being part of it, right, that helps the narrative,
I think a little bit. And just where he's at
on the scale, maybe about an inch inch and a
(01:14:55):
half taller than I am, plus spikes that that. You
know that that's one of the big question we talked
with Pete Futech earlier of you know, what does that
mean for draft stock? Remember he's been playing behind a
six ft five pound offensive line this entire time and
working out of the pocket, stepping up in the pocket
quite frequently. So he's acquitted himself fairly well, right in
(01:15:18):
terms of at least putting part of a checkbox, you know,
check in the box there for for pro scouts. As
you go forward, obviously we'll have the combine and all
those other things to come. But for me, it we
should have never really been the narrative that was created. Yeah,
you had a baseball deal, Fine, NFL, you you pay
(01:15:39):
that off if you had to pay every dime of it,
All right, I'll give you all five million back. I'm
going I'm going to the NFL. I can trade on
my Heisman Trophy. I'll go sign more trading cards for
the companies that produced cards. And maybe it's a different
story if the Sooners go eight and four and end
up playing in the Alamo Bowl and and he can
move on to his baseball career. But a lot of
(01:16:00):
things hit, and now he's not going to hit in
Major League Baseball. He's going to get hit in the NFL.
And I just don't think that much. He's never gonna
take a snap from under center. It will be in
the shotgun the entire time that he plays in the
National Football League. They'll figure out ways to make it work.
And Mike, it's not even about even making it work.
It's just about what is at stake? There have been
tall quarterbacks who stunk. Sure, you leave Dan McGuire alone.
(01:16:24):
How about that school reference right there? But you go
through right here, here's the statement. I'm moving forward. I
am firmly and fully committing my life and time to
becoming an NFL quarterback. Football has been my love and
passion my entire life. I was raised to play QB
and I very much look forward to dedicating of myself
to being the best QB possible and winning NFL championships.
(01:16:45):
Where was this statement when you were out marketing things
during Super Bowl Week? What what now? But what's the
push now? Is really? I I know the combines in
two weeks. It just seems like you could have gone
to Atlanta prepared for this and that could have been
the story instead of the NBA trade deadline. Could have
been that decision. Then he could have been could have
(01:17:07):
been king that day as gave him a deadline. So
they wanted to know by spring, you know, by the
time spring training started, So I'm thinking yet they were
still cautiously optimistic he was gonna walk through that door day.
They may have been off base on that one. They've
kind of missed swung and missed, but if you still
hit three hundred, you're going to the Hall of Fame.
He's dead buyer on my carbon coming to you live

What I want to know over the last two and

a half season, so the previous two, two full seasons
and this season, name the top nine teams because there
are only nine schools that I've been ranked number one
in college basketball the last two and a half season.
So yeah, So the teams that have been ranked number
one at least once from the season until now in
(01:19:21):
college hoops, there are nine of them that have graced
the top spot. Will start with my Carmen. I'm gonna
take the chalk. I gonna take the valls. Uh, the valls,
the Tennessee volunteers who are number one this week. There
they are. This is the fourth time in this span
that they have reached number one. In fact, it's the
fourth straight week their number one. Let's go to lead
to lap looking for the number one teams in college
(01:19:42):
basketball over the last two and a half seasons. I'm
gonna go Virginia. Oh, Virginia. The Cavaliers have hit that
top spot, haven't they. Yes, yes, they love their Who's
in Cavalier Country. Virginia has been number one five times.
Let's go to alex tie shirts. Dan, you know I'm
a huge college guy. I know you are, especially at
the college women. Yes. Actually that's a secret. Uh actually
(01:20:06):
notion about me that you gave out to the world. Yes, yeah,
there you go. Let me go with North Carolina. North
Carolina the tar Heels and they're great basketball success. Show
me the tar Heels. They did not make the list. Yes,
North Carolina has not been number one in college hoops
the last two and a half season. Shocking off first strike,
They're a pass is still available. By the way, if
you don't know you can pass, it will reveal an answer.
(01:20:28):
Over to Deb Carson, Dan, I will go Villanova. Of course. Heck,
they cut down the nets last year. Yes, there they
are number one. In fact, they had the most sixteen
times they've been number one the last two and a
half years. Back around to Mike Carmen. How about the Zags. Yeah,
way up at the Pacific Northwest. Let's see how there
(01:20:49):
they are? There? We go there they are good. Zega
six times they've been number one. Over to lead to
lap I'm gonna go with Duke, Duke, Duke, Dukes, Duke
and Duke has been number one thirteen times. Let's go
to Lenova, Duke and Zega, Virginia and Tennessee there four
more over to Alex ty Shirt. All right, Dana, can't
(01:21:09):
mess us up again. I'm gonna go with Kansas on
this one. Rock Chalk Jay go five times over to
Deb Carson. How about Kentucky? Dan, are we getting wild?
Yes we are. Kentucky's on the list. We are two away,
just one strike on the board again. Nine schools have
(01:21:29):
been number one in college hoops the last two and
a half seasons. We've got seven of them. Who are
the other two? And Sparta ever get up there? Tomzo
at Michigan State. Show me Sparty. Yes, Sparty likes the party. Alright,
let's go past passes now off the board because we're
down to one answer. Lee, it's up to you. Who's
(01:21:52):
been number one in college hoops? Who's been number one?
And then get my blood pressure for me? Michigan State.
Oh B three, it's up to the big Ay. Oh boy, here, yeah,
here we go. I have only one guest left, and
(01:22:14):
it's probably not kind of be right, but give me
Louisville louis ball or the win. You know who it was, Arizona.
It was deb Carson's Baylor Bay. Thanks everybody for playing
the feud. Coming up next on Foxport Trading NBP Talk
(01:22:36):
replace the Trade Deadline. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Heisman winning quarterback Kyler
Murray has chosen to play pro football rather than baseball,
although the Oakland A's will still hold his major league rights.
Cleveland Brown sign running that Kareem Hunt were reported one
(01:22:58):
year contract, despite Hunts still facing an NFL suspension, and
the Panthers of sign safety Eric Read to a three
year deal worth more than twenty two million bucks. The
streaks continue in the NBA. Russell Westbrook with his tenth
straight triple double as the Thunder beat the Trailblazers one
one eleven. Oklahoma City wins. It's fourth in a row.
James Harden now has thirty straight thirty plus point games,
(01:23:20):
thirty one points tonight in the Rockets one one oh
four win over the Mavericks, the Eastern Conference best. Bucks
beat the Bulls in Chicago, one nuggets into the three
games skid. They beat the Heat one oh three eight
seven College Hoops fourth rank VIRGINUA one at number eight
North Carolina one. I'm deb Carson, locked the loaded here
(01:23:43):
on a Monday night with you. We thank you for
taking a few minutes with us. Mike Carmen alongside Dan
Buyer The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen here from
the Getic Studios. Dad, good to have you in. We've
had a raucku is two hours the hits for the night.
We're talking Kyler Murray, a lot of Kyler Murray deciding
to issue his baseball dreams, hanging up those cleats, putting
(01:24:07):
on the shoulder pads, might take the bat with him,
I don't know. We did a story in the Bag
of Fun on our Fox Sports Sunday show of a
woman who was mad that she couldn't get her beef
patties came back broke like a bunch of windows because
while they were trying to substitute out for inferior product.
Maybe Kyler Murray could eventually use the bat if things
(01:24:28):
go awry and his NFL destination, he would have just
rather put the helmet on and try to break through
the windows that the woman was terrorizing. I finally saw
a video of that man. That's the next level, right, Yeah,
some some big swings for that. But the point is
is you've got tampering Hunt in Murray. That's this This
(01:24:51):
the big Three. It's the big three in the world
of sports, and they're all branching off and just completely
different areas. And you really have that. Usually it's in
the last couple of weeks. Everything's been trade deadline or
focused on the NBA football season. It's so football focused.
But you've got baseball with Kyler Murray, got football obviously
with with Murray Ann Hunt, and then you've got the
(01:25:14):
whole basketball storyline still branching off of the trade deadline,
which passed a week ago. So yeah, an interesting Monday
in February, which, by the way, is a downtime in sports.
People don't realize it. But because you've got All Star
weekend coming up this week, maybe the NBA action isn't
as appealing as it normally is. Players just ready to
(01:25:34):
get to the All Star break. Football is now over
a week old being being gone, the meaning professional NFL football.
Now you've got the alliance to replay, yeah, and college
football football, and people are still kind of trying college
basketball excuse me, trying to get into that if you
haven't so, so it's still kind of new. So this
is usually like a couple of weeks day tone is
(01:25:55):
what kind of kicks off the spring, really, and now
you've got all these other stories, so it's it's good
to have. Now that's said, every sport still rolling. You
got some of the perennial powerhouses in the NHL rising
up as the playoffs loom. You had a T and
T Pebble Beach. Phil Mickelson now the third winning ist
player born after the Great stats fifth at at Pebble Beach,
(01:26:20):
and he wanted to go. He wanted to keep playing
last night because he was in a groove. Finished the
job this morning, he backed off some of his uh
anger or vitriol or whatever term he wanted. He is.
He just wanted to be done. He wanted to get
on his private plan and get out of there. Well,
there's there's a couple of things to this. Number One,
if this wasn't a pro am, I think that maybe
(01:26:43):
Paul Casey would be interested in continuing to be honest,
now that you're playing with an amateur in that group
is in the hunt for the amateur championship. Sure, there
was a lot of talk at the telecast that maybe
Paul Casey's game wasn't right and Phil was hot, so
you wanted to keep on playing. I just think Phil
wanted to get out of town. And I think that
Phil also felt like, listen here, I'm Phil Michaelson, and
(01:27:08):
I'm not going to bogey go bogey bogey and get
that means Casey would have had to have birding and
eagles seventeen and eighteen. You have a better chance of
eagling eighteen than you do of birding seventeen in my mind.
So the so if you're Phil Mickelson, you're looking at
it as you almost kind of take it personally. Made
me thinking like, oh, you think you can catch me.
(01:27:28):
But honestly, I think that Phil just wanted to get
out of town and get ready for the Genesis Open
here just down the street at Riviera. But that's why
he was I think a little little sore yesterday. Well,
but he could have made a couple of extra bucks
at it. Yeah, I bet, I don't don't choke this away.
Come on, let's put some scratch on it. We're comedy
in line. They were the only group that, like the
(01:27:49):
group was telling them finished last night, so it just
they came out and then they had to finish the
the amateur portion portion of the championship as well. They
had and coming to you Alive for the guy Go
Fox Sports Radio Studios fifteen minutes can save or more
on car insurance. There's a guyico dot com. Get yourself
a free rate. Quote Daytona on Fox the Westminster Dog Show.
(01:28:10):
I've got it recording. I'm gonna watch a little of
it tonight. Our buddy Chris Myers as part of the broadcast.
They're from New York. Nothing like riding the train if
you're in New York during this week because people have
their dogs. So there's all sorts of other stuff going
on in addition to the show for people to get
pet care. So the Netflix special the Seven Days Out,
(01:28:31):
where one of them was seven Days Out of the
Westminster Dog Show. Yeah, so it's interesting behind the scenes
look at at dog owners that get ready for this.
It's a recommended watch if you're interested, and just remember
Best in Show is not a documentary. Uh. The NBA
also still in full effect, like, as you say, sub
(01:28:53):
teams seemingly disinterested, just wanting to ride out the streak
of whatever long road trips they're on, getting to the
All Star break, getting a couple of days to refresh
in some cases maybe being able to have those business
meetings with prospective free agent buddies of yours Lebron James
uh and have those conversations behind closed doors. But one
of the things we get into is, you know, we
(01:29:13):
love awards and trying to figure out exactly where things
lie in these kind of determination. In the NFL, for
a while, there was a fun debate of all right,
Patrick Mahomes versus Drew Brees versus you know, pick your
third guy on that list. Todd Gurley maybe for a
while because of what he was doing in terms of
(01:29:34):
racking up touchdowns in the scoring of the Rams offense. Instead,
you know Mahomes is a landslide winner. Uh. People now
posting memes of no look passes in the NBA, where
guys get concay and Patrick Mahomes ruined the NBA and
now he has to play just video games instead of
getting on a court. But when you get into m
(01:29:54):
v P talk in the NBA, it's presumptive favorite, right
the runaway a favorite for much of the year based
on the scoring streak. And you heard deb cards and
say it. Thirty straight games of at least thirty points
for James Harden in a struggle a couple of nights.
Date took some extra free throws down the stretch, but
getting there over the course of the year, averaging thirty
(01:30:15):
six point five, six point seven, seven point eight and
two point two. That's pretty nice box score when you
line it up what he's doing with Houston as well
as carrying them while Capella is out and you missed
Chris Paul for the longest time that it was a
one man gang and a one man wrecking crew. Along
the way, your guy Janice and Tenna Coupo Uh, the
(01:30:35):
guy that we love so much. We finally figured out
how to say his last name. Uh, it's twenty one,
seven point one, twelve point six, five point nine and
then one point four, one point four. I mean stats
all around, and what Milwaukee's doing raising the hand. Now
they bring in mirror Tache. Maybe mirror Tach once he's
ready to play and and really contribute game to game.
(01:30:56):
After the All Star break, maybe a little more of
a spotlight goes on to the Bucks as to what
they're doing, because much of the attention has been on
what the Lakers aren't and what's going on in the
Western The Bucks are a really good team and Jannice
has just been dominant and he's been unstoppable at the basket,
and there's a lot of talk about what his his
(01:31:17):
jump shot may need to work on, but there's no
doubt that he is an m VP candidate and then
many people's list he is number one and another you've
got a guy. Yeah, I get that a set. But
the point of this, of what we had this past weekend,
there are instances where you have absences that also show
you that, hey, this guy is valuable. You don't want
(01:31:40):
to miss ten games for a team, sometimes just one
game will do it. And the Bucks lost by twenty
points to the Orlando Magic at home over the weekend,
and a game that Jannie didn't play. That that tells
you something that I may have been a night or
maybe the players just aren't into it as well because
Janice isn't there. But it also tells you how important
(01:32:00):
he is. And the hardened streak is amazing, and I
actually would compare that the hardened streak is almost like
a hitting streak in baseball, where you're just wondering if
he's going to get that. I actually think that's good
for the NBA, and that's good Like tonight, it was
the topic of conversation when he only had twenty six
points with two minutes left and you're wondering, is he
gonna get an opportunity they were up on Dallas. Maybe
(01:32:21):
you couldn't even even have taken him out of the game,
and no, you end up getting thirty points, And I
think that is good. So Janice and and Harden have
always been in the conversation. But yeah, the guy that
also needs to be there is Paul George. And we've
heard all night long about the streak of Russell Westbrook
because it is historic, ten straight games of a double,
(01:32:42):
of a trible double, something that we haven't seen. But
what ends up happening is we don't focus on what
Paul George has done. And those in the know in
the NBA, you'll see votes of this guy's in a candidate.
This guy should be in the top five. Paul George
is in that conversation like, but nobody's talking about it.
Tonight Paul George had forty seven points, twelve rebounds and
(01:33:04):
tennis is but he's the second story exactly, and it's amazing.
And in the last couple of games Saturday night against
the Rockets, he was the story, scoring forty five when
they came back from down the last Let's just take
the last handful of games or so, twenty seven against Memphis,
thirty against Orlando, thirty seven against Boston, forty three against
(01:33:24):
the Heat, thirty seven against Orlando, had thirty six and
a win against the Bucks. The week before the Super Bowl,
had twenty three against New Orleans, and then thirty six
against Portland. So in those last ten games or nine
or ten games or so, Paul George has been unstoppable.
And to see where Oklahoma City is, which, by the way,
they're in the third spot in the Eastern or Western Conference.
(01:33:46):
Now just a game back of Denver for the two spot.
And it isn't because of the triple doubles of Russell Westbrook.
It's the playoff Paul George. So when we're talking m
v P MIC, it's no longer a two horse race.
It is a three horse races. Paul George should be
in the conversation. And I know Nicola Jokich in Denver
are near the west. And I'm sorry to my cousin
(01:34:07):
cousin Mitch who on Twitter just try to tell me
that was in his top three. Sorry, it's not the case.
There's no way that that that should happen. It's Paul George,
James Harden and Janna and Teta Coopo for the m
v P. You look at Paul george scoring average for
the year, he's up six point four points per game
over last season. In five February games, thirty eight point two.
(01:34:29):
I mean, you're looking at just a ridiculous, uh stat
line going in Actually I think it actually goes up
because I think you had in today he gets up
to thirty nine a game, just a magnificent run for
him and splitting every game except one, I believe. So
let's call it what it is. Going into the season, right,
we talked a lot about trade deadline hysteria. Who's coming
(01:34:50):
to Los Angeles? Why is it a big guy coming
to Los Angeles? Paul George is at the center of
all the early tampering stuff from Magic Johnson right going on,
Jimmy Kimmel actively campaigning five undergrad Paul George went to
Okay see last year, decided, you know what, I kind
of like it here. I can deal with this. Didn't
come back to Los Angeles, was spotted at a few
malls and everyone's, oh, it's coming. No, Instead, he ends
(01:35:13):
up having a nice party, showing up at one of
Russell Westbrook's fabulous affairs and goes through tonight. He wanted
to make sure he recognized what went on in those
final minutes to get into the statistical milestone. That was
cool at that moment, But he told me, it's a situation,
(01:35:34):
So so yeah, he says, Russell Westbrook actually told him
and was stat counting for him. Good. Good, because we
always talk about players they know about where they're at,
or maybe sometimes exactly where they're at. And for Russell
Westbrook that's been one of the main criticisms of him
during this run, where people sometimes downplay the triple double
(01:35:59):
effect based on just the all right, you're you're just
filling up a box score in this case your third
in the West and whatever whatever that means. Long term
fact of the matter is you're winning games and you've
made Paul George the player everybody thought that he was
supposed to be. And compare their triple doubles Tonight Westbrooks
twelve and fourteen. Excuse me, it'steen and eleven Paul had.
(01:36:25):
Paul George had twelve and ten, so he had one
less assistant to less rebounds than Russell Westbrook. And I've
been one because I'm not a big Ben Simmons guy,
and I just think that there's a lot of stat padding.
I want a guy that kids shoot. Yeah. I just
think the fact that they celebrated he took a three
point shot. Da, Well, we we make up stupid stats
like first player to fifteen points, eight rebounds and six
(01:36:46):
is like, how random is that? Just to fit guys
in categories. I don't like triple doubles with a guy
only has fourteen points. That's it's it's a Jason Kidd
triple double like early on in his career. Not a
knock on Jason Kidd, but now you're just trying to
get to that point like Paul George's trible double is
a triple double. I mean, forty seven points to go
along with your twelve boards and tennisis well, that's something
(01:37:09):
that's like one of those eighteen out steaks that you
go and have. Yeah, I mean it's not it's not
a you know, petit Russell. Westbrook in the streak hasn't
scored over thirty points in any of those games, so
in the twenty nine points, and that's that's all I'm
saying is there's making sure you're getting the triple double
deb Carson actually put a poll up of what streak less, longer, hardens,
(01:37:30):
thirty point game streak, Westbrook's triple double streak, or the
Knicks losing streak. I voted for hardened streak. But I'm
just saying, because I think it's we saw tonight that
it's going to be something uh Nix is gonna be
tough to stop. Though on principle. I have to vote
for the Knicks' seven team counting. Right now, the Knicks
are leading in deb cars, Paul. You can find that
at deb Cars and I just retweeted it at one
(01:37:53):
and you can find Dan at Dan Buyer on Fox
and the other thing. You know with Paul George for
all the criticism, sometimes guys don't need to be or
want to be the one. And to some degree he
took these out because Russell Westbrook is the polarizing guy
that's gonna take the heat if things go awry. Sometimes
that's not a bad way to go and have your career.
(01:38:13):
Just cruise along. You could put up your stature. You

you for taking a few minutes of your evening early
(01:39:39):
morning now East Coast to hang out with us talking
all things sports. Big NBA Day, NFL back in the news,
some good, some bad, some curiosities. Major League Baseball team
starting to report pictures and catchers. Everything in full swing,
and we've got some cornhole Dan. Do you were just
telling us lead to than our executive producer that you
(01:40:02):
suffered a cornhole injury injured? Yes, because you had headphones
in and didn't you know, listening to a little George
Michael and didn't hear someone throwing a bag here? It
just wasn't I didn't know where I was standing and
where I was throwing, and when I threw, I ended
up getting a chunk of wood stuck in my leg
from the cornhole target if you will, had they made
(01:40:22):
it themselves? These were homemade. No, they were just jagged edges.
Is the exact is the big A hit it right
on the head. It was a jagged edge and slid
right in And it wasn't a sliver, it was a chunk.
It was a small chunk of wood, so memorial. They
was quite interesting to go a while to get it out,
but finally, yes, the wood was gone. I think this
(01:40:45):
is the kind of competition though that with a little
bit of training. Um we as radio hosts might be
able to participate in though. You know, we always watch
guys run up and down and we've got the replay
the Eagles and Bears on and you know it's like
they're trolling me on the other side of the glass.
Thanks guys, uh that, you know, we gotta watch this
thing again. But I watched Cornel and I'm like, you
know what I can do that I don't need to
(01:41:07):
run my pull a hamstring, maybe a shoulder pops, I
don't know. The jerseys are somewhat unique as well. It's
like a cross between a fishing jersey and a bowling jersey.
I would say, I like that you were seen those
fishing you know, like fishing shirts. I'll tell you I
miss watching fishing with our old buddy Frank Pollock because
I need to have a big tail of something out
on the on the lake. There you go, ups to Frank. Hey,
(01:41:29):
let's go out to the hotline. Dan, It's time to
bring in Kurt Ellen, lead NBA Rider, managing editor at
Pro Basketball Talk dot com at Basketball Talks, where you
find him on Twitter. Kurt, we're finally past the trade deadline,
but all the tampering and slap fighting continues, No, it
does continue. You know, you can't. You can't go a
(01:41:52):
couple of days without some drama. I actually, you know,
I think Magic is gonna start a liquor carnival team
now with like some Laker jersey, because I like that
branding opportunities. Kurt quickly tough one for the Magpies today.
Huh yes, yes, yes, should have three. Yeah, Premier League
(01:42:14):
talk here with me, and yeah, there you go, there
you go. You just took it sideways. Just confused, every
just confused. Everybody goes in the No, no, that's all
I'm gonna say. Right, and hurt and and those and
those of us who are stand I've been able to
like block that out of my mind, so thank you
for bringing that back, like the start of Wood. Now
that's stuck back in my head. Newcast. So shouldn't be
(01:42:35):
the Wolves today? They got jobbed in an awful call
late to allow a time. So yeah, there's a summer
remind guys showing off all that knowledge. But Kurt, you know,
with the the Lakers as much as it's the Hey,
let's move on past the deadline and go back to work,
and and everybody, you know, be a professional the fact
that Magic Johnson's name comes up and the Lakers have
(01:42:56):
to address every trade conversation. What are they gonna do
a big phone dump that league headquarters at this point,
you know, maybe Magic Johnson should work on just like
not saying the name of the players of any other
teams to stop just like this all happened, by the way,
like this whole like conversation earlier in the season, and no,
(01:43:19):
you know, like it got brushed aside in whatever way
you want to get Like, there's different stories coming from
the Lakers and thinkers about who brushed what aside. However
it got done, it was, it was there until Magic
decided to bring it up. I'm like, put yourself back
in it. You've already gotten fined by the way tweets
and Paul George and and and his comments about I mean,
(01:43:40):
that's three tampering fines for Magic already. You think you
think he'd learn, but I just I guess not. Kurt
I brought up earlier in the show that you know,
the NBA is very sensitive because if there was any
league that we thought were was was fixed or that
had predetermined outcomes outside of the w w E, we
wouldn't slightly point to the NBA. Is that why we
(01:44:02):
see Adam Silver and the NBA taking all these things
so seriously. I think there's a little of that. I
felt so though. It's like, if they were really serious
about it, maybe you don't want I don't know Lebron
James going to lunch with Anthony Davis after a game,
you know, talking who's about to be a frequent la.
You let all this stuff go on, we put between players,
(01:44:23):
and I get it. It's hard to police because they
can be friends and in theory, Lebron and Anthony Davis
could have had dinner and not discussed his free agency.
So I'm sure that's what happened, But I just I
think they're sensitive to it, but they picked some weird stuff,
like they come down on the owners and the Team's
really hard when the actual tampering that goes on is
(01:44:44):
just completely unchecked and there's a ton of it. Well,
and that's the hard part though, CURTI. You know, I
joked a bit as Dan and I were talking about this,
what are they gonna do put an ankle monitor on
Ben Simmons that records who he's with, or have a
trailed by a private eye. Obviously, the rich Paul connection
and all this just leaves a lot of folks anxious
(01:45:04):
and been angry that this goes on. But other than saying, hey,
we're stripping you of all your draft picks and starting
to find teams, you know, seven figures each time out,
I don't know how much you concurb it well by
the way draft picks would be. That was what the
Lakers feared with the Paul George things, like they feared
draft picks way more than find money is money, and
(01:45:26):
especially for the Lakers, not you know, Genie Buss is
not the and the Bus family are not the richest
of NBA owners by any by any stretch. But for them,
five thousand dollars can be handled. It's it's losing draft
picks that would be. They really really wants to curb this.
That's that's the direction they go by the way that
One part of this that kind of bugs me a
little bit is if Ben, like put Elton Brand or
(01:45:48):
whoever in the room, if Ben Simmons wants to pick
the brain of the best big guard in the history
of the NBA, why can't he talk to magic about that?
Like I get that the Magic's a president and he
couldn't theory recruiting. But in the pure basketball SENSEI if
he just wants to discuss the game with him, Magic
is pretty much the best is Yeah. But that's the
(01:46:10):
problem is now you have to trust that that's all
it is, right and I get that, and I never
never can be because it's a relationship that's being forged.
I told Mike, talk to Penny Hardaway, talk to you know,
talk to somebody else outside of of of Magic Johnson. Yeah,
and he's gonna end up talking. I'm sure he'll work
out with Kobe and you know, I'm sure the Sitcher
(01:46:32):
will set him up with Dr Jay and you know,
whoever else they want. But it's a good way to
go through your bucket list of all time heroes if
you haven't met him, No, Kurt exactly. That's actually you
want me to stick around here here, and here's the
guys I want to meet, and Jesus and a few
others while we're at it, and they're all like, why
do you want to meet with Muggsy Bogush? That's great stuff.
(01:46:55):
Court healing basketball talk Joining us here on Fox Sports Radio,
The m v P Race I just argued, is no
longer a two player race. It is a three player
race in my mind? Would you agree with that? With
Paul George entering the fray of James Harden and Janice,
I got a feeling right now that Harden has a
(01:47:16):
little bit of a lead. But that said, he's second
or third on everybody's ballot and um and climbing fast.
I thought Anthony Davis was the one guy who maybe
could have made a push, but that's certainly not going
to happen now. So the way he's going, the way
he's carrying that team, he's probably top three on every ballot.
I don't, yeah, I haven't. You know, I've got a vote.
I haven't spent a ton of time deciding yet exactly
(01:47:38):
what order that's going to be, because there's thirty games
to go. But he's in that conversation now. He's had
that biggest season season. And what gets crazy You start
thinking about the All NBA team and you're like, your
forwards are probably gonna be Paul George, and you honest
to start Kevin Durant and then Lebron as your other
I mean you used to. It gets so deep to
the forward suddenly you're dropping in readibly good players back
(01:48:01):
to the third team, like Kawhi Leonard could be a
third team guy or Lebron could be a third team
All NBA guy this year despite their seasons, just because
that is so stupid deep last one for me, Kurt.
As we go towards away from the trade deadline, I
should say the East, we had a number of moves.
Milwaukee still sitting in the number one seed? Are they
(01:48:22):
there when we finished the regular season? I think they're
the number one seed. I'm curious, but we just haven't
seen them in the playoffs right We just don't know.
But I'll tell you having watched them a couple of
times now lately, nobody's playing as well as them in
the league right now. Nobody is in Golden State maybe,
But the way Milwaukee is defending with lengths playing to
their strength, adding shooting by the way pickling it picking
(01:48:44):
up mirror tage at the deadline, it's just brilliant. That's
just plug and play. Fits right in with what they're doing.
They all buy into the system, they all sacrifice. Um.
I love the way they're playing, and I really honestly,
we'll see how the injuries, everything shake out between now
and the end of the season. But I couldn't tell
you who's coming out of the East. Like I think
(01:49:05):
Boston might be the fourth best team, but they play
more like a team sometimes, and the Pacers aren't going away.
And the Pacers, yeah, and I like the West Matthews
picked up, but that's by the way you want to
mix the Pacers. Dangerous too is they'll miss having the
guy to go to in the playoffs. But they don't
have the weak link. They don't have the all right,
we gotta switch and get this guy in a pick
(01:49:25):
and bowl because we can destroy him. They're just kind
of sick like good guys, solid rock solid guys one
through nine, and it becomes hard to pick those guys apart.
It's hard to find the weakness to go after. In

them is just you know, marketing maybe gone a little
bit side ways. We'll discuss that next, but first we
step out to deb Carson catch up on everything that
happened in our sporting universe this evening. Depth That is
(01:50:08):
a big task. My friend Russell Westbrook with his tenth
straight triple double tonight, he passes Wilt Chamberlain. He is
all alone a top the consecutive triple double streak. He also,
by the way, has his twenty three of the season.
But the Thunder also get the win, their fourth straight win.
They beat the Trailblazers one, one eleven. The streak also

(01:52:39):
but for the NBA, it's well streaks and tampering. And
we've done a little bit with the streaks. We've done
a little bit with the ENVA and m VP. So
now let's get back into what was one of the
more entertaining parts of tampering that has nothing to do
with Magic Johnson at least for the moment. We'll see
how he works his way into this story. But the
New York Nicks starting to ask for season ticket renewals
(01:52:59):
in the midst of well a game that they should
have won against Cleveland. Uh, well they didn't. Clear Cleveland
takes care of business in the battle for how many
ping pong balls are in there for Zion Williamson. But
they in putting out their promotional materials, one of the
images they put out was rookie Mitchell Robinson and he's
(01:53:21):
standing next to Kevin Durant waiting in his defensive posture. Uh.
And it was a link for fans to learn more
about their ticket renewal for that's great. They went out
of their way to well decide they had to delete
that photo and issued the following statement. Game action photos
are used all the time for marketing purposes, but given
everything going on, we took the precaution of taking the
(01:53:42):
photo down, the Nick said in a statement that was
released this afternoon. To be clear, it was one of
several rotating photos on the site. Obviously, the speculation of
where Kevin Durant plays in is hot, uh and heavy
and all of this and Durant's made men a statement
post game, gotten angry while wearing a very nice looking
(01:54:04):
white sox had I have to say, but this has
gone to a level of absurdity. Right. We've had promotional
materials featuring other teams and players forever. The Clippers out
here in Los Angeles, what was the marketing. They didn't
market their own guys for decades. It was come to
see Michael Jordan if you buy a mini package that
includes the Bulls. Not that they were trying to recruit
(01:54:26):
him to sell, but to come play for the team.
But they're trying to make sales. Likewise, here, who are
you putting on that Knicks? Here's here's Fisdale, Here's Knox,
here's the Knicks logo. What are you gonna do? It's
honestly the best thing that Knicks have drawn up all season,
and it came from their promotional department to be able
to You could have also have done this. You could
(01:54:48):
have spun it in a way of saying, no, this
is a finals preview. This is what we're trying to
get fans to say, is that, look, it's gonna be
Nick's Warriors in the finals. This is what you're getting
season tickets for because the Knicks are going to be
in the finals taking on Kevin Durant, that was the
way that you could spin it. But whoever thought of
this kudos and you know what, I don't think it's tampering.
(01:55:10):
I don't think it's that at all. I think it's
a unique way to try to If anything, it could
be fraud to the season ticket holders of promising something
that isn't even there and you don't know if you're
going to get. But I don't think it's tampering. I
don't think that Kevin Durant is gonna say, remember when
they used me in that promotional uh ad to try
to fool their season ticket holders. I don't think he's
(01:55:32):
gonna think that and say, like, you know what, I
want to be a nick. If it's anything, it's fraud
to the ticket holders. But I say this kudos and
trying to be creative because there are a lot of
ways that you could have tried to spin it. You
have no idea who's going to be on the team
next year, so why not at least put a guy
that could be on your radar. Well it's funny, you know,
you go to the the boardroom and all these things.
(01:55:52):
He's partnering up and he's now going to do a
kind of a roundtable discussion. They had an episode that
showed up with p J. Tucker talking about having spent
thirty grand on a pair of Katie two's that he'd
worn and I'll wear him in a game, just not
against you out of respect and that kind of thing. So,
you know, he's a guy trying to shift the narrative
of what his personality is and take more control right
(01:56:15):
quiet in Oklahoma City, and sometimes seems well, he is
thin skinned about some of it and seems to chase
wind mills and fight things that don't need to. What
would have been funny with the Knicks here is if
you had the opportunity that every once in a while
with flashed him in the Knicks uniform, Like here's just
that that split second, the subliminal advertising kind of thing, right,
(01:56:35):
you know, if that had happened, then yeah, you got
a problem. But here it's you're trying to sell the Knicks.
What are you gonna do? You put him up against
the best. It's like, hey, here's the Knicks against the Calves,
a team we might be able to beat. No, listen,
I just bought a candy bar that I'm pretty sure
expires in like eight days. So there's a sucker for everything.
(01:56:55):
So maybe so I don't blame the next for at
least giving it a shot, and for for hey, why
not be creative with it, because somebody's gonna somebody's gonna bite.
Trust me, When the chocolate was a little little lighter
than usual, you know, it probably wasn't the best purchase,
but the point being, at least the Knicks were creative
and trying to sell garbage. Read the fine print. Kevin
(01:57:16):
Durant may not may never play for the New York Knicks,
but he's pictured here to make you think of happier
times and of winning programs. Good job, Knicks, the best
thing you've done all season. Mary had it and then
they took it away. But they made it a story.

While the NBA has a bunch of storylines, NFL, we've
got Kareem Hunt, We've got Kyler Murray, and we have
some teases of schedule leaks. See the NFL saying, hey, NBA,
(01:58:45):
you had a couple of weeks you know what, and
we're coming back, and yes, we're bolstered by the alliance,
I don't know, football ruling the weekend and then coming
in with Haymakers and we're talking about, well, what's what's
it gonna look like? What's that he's an opener. Traditionally
it's the Super Bowl champion. We've only seen it once
where it wasn't That was the Ravens. They didn't do
(01:59:07):
it this year. At least what's been leaked is it
looks like it's going to be the Bears and the
Packers will lead to lap and I will be on
other sides of that one. And as we talk about it,
it's one of those well we went back to Super
Bowl ratings, right, and people wondered, while it's down, why
is it down? What's going on? And while there's one
common denominator in terms of your champion. I would be
(01:59:29):
interested if they would have gone forward with this, if
the Rams would have won the Super Bowl. But I
do think that this allows them to yeah, okay, let's
push the NFL anniversary with the oldest rivalry that there
is in the NFL. If the Rams would have won,
and I think he could have put on quite a
show to kick off the NFL in Los Angeles. Now
I know they'd have to do it at the Colosseum,
(01:59:50):
which wouldn't be ideal. But now with the game, or
with the Patriots winning the Super Bowl, considering they've done
it there. Now it would be a third time in
the last five years that they would have had an
opening game, So maybe it's not as as special. I
think this is a perfect way for the NFL to
allow the anniversary theme to overtake one of their biggest products.
(02:00:14):
Put the Patriots on Sunday night. That's totally fine that
it allows them to get away from the New England
home opener in that Patriot fatigue that is a problem
in the National Football League. But yeah, you slide them
over to Sunday night. Everybody's got that needs their fix
on that opening weekend. You know, fantasy games hanging in
the balance, they're gonna watch anything. You mean, nine of
(02:00:36):
our closest friends running around on one side of the ball.
They're certainly gonna be there. You've got your international schedule.
We don't know when that's already out there. Chiefs, Chargers,
Great Game, Panthers, Bucks, Cam Newton and what all is
going on there? My god, Bruce arians wearing a jaunty
hat Bears Raiders. Raiders didn't want to have that at home,
(02:00:57):
so people were mocking them for Colomack. They're gonna get
enough of that in their well bag of bond year anyway.
Bengals Rams, Yeah uh. And then you've got Texans Jaguars.
The other thing that leaked out or at least we
have an inkling on our a couple of the Thanksgiving
Day games and it features the Bears again, so Bears, Lions,
(02:01:19):
and then the Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins led by
Brian Flores and quarterback to be name later and are
gonna be awful, like they're They're not gonna be good
at all in the Dolphins and the Cowboys have this
thing where this is like the fifth times in since
leon Lett had the fumble issue, Like the Dolphins and
(02:01:39):
Cowboys are gonna play on Thanksgiving, so you have that
tie in. But when you look at the NFL's regular
season ratings, the highest rated games are on Thanksgiving and
it really doesn't matter who the Cowboys play, and oddly,
it often doesn't matter who the Lions play, because those
games end up being the highest rated regular season games
(02:01:59):
that you are going to get just because Thanksgiving and
football are just hand in hand, so the NFL could
put whoever. I actually wish they move away. I liked
it when different teams played the lines. I liked when
they do the a f C in the NFC. But
you're kind of locked into certain teams with the way
that the NFL schedule is if set up, so you
would almost have some of the same a f C
(02:02:21):
teams playing over and over again, and want to get
the most ideal matchups. But I like that when they
would do that, And obviously a f C NFC would
be Dolphins and Cowboys this time around, but move someone
else in for that Lions game. Doesn't always have to
be the Packers, Bears or Vikings from the NFC North.
He could put in a different NFC opponent if you
want it. Well. It also seems at some point you
just have to ponder what you're doing as a organization, right.
(02:02:45):
You make a lot of changes, make a lot of adjustments.
At some point you have to just say, you know what,
we don't need the Lions in that spot anymore. I
disagree with that. I I need the Lions in that spot.
My turkey would not taste the same if the Lions
weren't in that spot. I I mean, I like the
helmets they normally I am. I am. I am a
stunt supporter of keeping the Lions on Thanksgiving Day. I
(02:03:07):
don't I don't care that the Lions are I don't
care that the Lions are there. I'm just worre about
their opponent. Like I like having the Lions in that spot.
That's Thanksgiving the same thing with the Cowboys. Cowboys are
never going to leave that spot. I love lions and
the cowboys. Pocados wouldn't taste the same if it was different.
Look at that, it wasn't. That's that is the slice
of America. American right there. Uh yeah, I've had enough
(02:03:31):
of them, even though they lose and they're a division
rival to Watching Matthew Stafford run for his life is
a Thanksgiving tradition that there many of us have become
accustomed to. Does matt Patricia and his beard and unkempt appearance,
does that make the taste of the food change at all?
Wayne Fonts was like an uncle to me because I

the big storylines. And we got a bunch of heavy
(02:04:34):
hitters over the course of the day, from the NFL
to more tampering talk in the National Basketball Association, and
then well the perhaps the biggest of them all, the
I'm not going to spring training the Oakland A's here's
your money back. I'll send you a big novelty check.
I was number nine pick I'm out. Kyler Murray well
(02:04:55):
on Twitter announces I'm going to the NFL. That's fine.
I think we all expected this to be the end
game for this Dan. Now the question becomes, if you
were an NFL executive and you were in that war
room right now, pouring through tape trying to figure out
which end is up, and you're looking at a first
round selection. How high does Kyler Murray go? Because we
(02:05:19):
know a lot of teams at least on the surface,
got their guy of the future in ying. Yeah, and
there's a lot of there are a lot of reasons
why this is different than number one being there aren't
five guys that are potential first round picks like there
were a year ago. There are really two guys. And
(02:05:40):
what even though the conversation Mike will continue and maybe
there's a quarterback, maybe maybe Drew Lock ends up being
a top ten pick. I don't think we're sitting there,
at least right now. We're not saying Drew Lock is
gonna be the first overall pick in the draft, especially
because the Arizona Cardinals have a quarterback. But that was
kind of thrown a curveball today when Kirk herb Street
(02:06:04):
ended up saying that it wouldn't shock him if the
Cardinals decided to move Josh Rosen to bring in Kyler Murray.
Now that was the that was the shocker. But there's
a lot with this Mike is as you said, like
last year, there were there were five guys and four
in the in the the top ten that we looked at,
(02:06:25):
and you felt if you were the New York Jets
and you wanted Baker Mayfield, that even though you went,
you still had Sam Donald. And I think the Jets
were very happy with getting Sam Donald. I think the
Kyler Murray pick is for a franchise that needs a
shot in the arm. And and that's what makes it
(02:06:45):
different than last year, not just because of this year numbers, Mike,
but we could see a team that decides, you know what,
we may not have him as the highest rated quarterback,
but we feel like our franchise needs this and needs
this excitement. And that's why we're gonna take Kyler Murray.
And that's why I think that there are so many
(02:07:06):
I don't know, I guess teams up in the air.
I know that Buffalo picks nine, they're not going to
draft them. We know that the Jets are picking third,
they're not going to draft them because they have their quarterback,
and the forty niners have Jimmy Garoppolo. But there are
other teams that may need a jolt, that may need
something to to jump up. And that's why I think
the Kyler Murray noose today is so intrigued. Yeah, you
(02:07:27):
get into the curiosity the Arizona. You go back to
Cliff Kingsbury long before he was on the campus and
spotted and people wondered if he was Ryan Gosling hanging
around USC when he had that cup of coffee there
before moving on uh that he was quoted as saying, look,
if I had the number one pick, I would take him. Well,
(02:07:47):
you know what, You've got the number one pick, So
now you get the opportunity if you want to. And
and look Steve Wilkes and that Arizona team last year,
there was no chance of success whatsoever. Right, the offensive
line was terrible. You had one and a half receivers.
Christian Kirk. I think we got we saw enough to
get excited that he could be something before he goes
(02:08:09):
down for the year. Larry Fitzgerald keeps coming back, and
I love him and I love watching him play. He's
thirty seven. I mean it's it's time you need you
need another receiver. David Johnson had no chance at all,
not that he was the David Johnson of a couple
of years ago. But you saw some semblance of it,
maybe as the season war on and he got his
(02:08:31):
legs and that maybe, all right, you've got one building block.
But the rest of it was a disaster. Yeah, that's
of it was an absolute disaster. Josh Rosen had no chance.
I joked early in the season with you on the
Fantasy Show, I would have put him in bubble wrap.
You know you're red shirted. I'm not putting you behind
this line. Yeah. And and and now in today's NFL,
when we see Baker Mayfield taking over another quarterbacks, yeah,
(02:08:53):
it's it's their opportunity to we see Sam Donald leading
the Jets tool win right away. It's these rookies have
to play now. And and you know, the coaching wasn't
there as he said it was. It was a failure
of this. It was a lost year for the Arizona Cardinals.
So I don't think you really know about Josh Rosen
as a quarterback. And it doesn't seem a team like
the Miami Dolphins would want to trade up. They're sitting
(02:09:14):
all the way back at thirteen that needs a shot
in the arm. But look at a team like Cincinnati,
you know, it's bringing in, you know, Zach Taylor as
their new head coach, and and you're you're like, Okay,
they've got Joe Mixon. Mixon was a bright spot for them.
You could have an Oklahoma backfield. Just thinking of teams
that that need that excitement, something to to build around it.
(02:09:36):
I mean, if I don't think that John Elway would
take him Denver carrious enough. We were mentioned in Detroit earlier.
They have a top ten pick. I know you don't
want to move on from Matthew Stafford. Maybe yeah, maybe
maybe you do. Maybe it's something different. Maybe it's the
instead of you know, zinging where everybody else goes, you
zag and that's what the Lions do. I think that
that's what's so unique about it is that there are
(02:09:57):
enough teams out there that may not need a quarterback
on the surface, but may need that jolt to to
restart the franchise. And in today's day and age in
the NFL, when people want that excitement or they think
that turnarounds are quick. I wouldn't put it past gms
and even owners of saying this is a guy that
we need to put in our organization. Curiosity. You bring
(02:10:20):
up Miami down at thirteen early mock drafts. That's where
he's going, Flores. You bring in Jim Caldwell. We talked
a little bit about it on Fox Sports Sunday yesterday.

no matter how much people try to sell because sa
Kwon Barkley during Super Bowl Week. If you heard any
of the clips from him out there list and I
don't think anybody's stumped for Eli Manning harder for anything,

no matter how glowing Schermer was of you know, Eli
is the guy and whatever else and has some life.
I mean, se Kwon Barty. I don't know if he
just loved him from the commercials they filmed together, but
he took up for a guy harder than I think
where Eli Manning is in his career than you necessarily
would have sure, And then and I don't know what
the fit would be, and that that's part of the

equation as well. And and to to see if you've

that's gonna need the football. And Kyler Murray could throw

I don't know if the Giants need another guy to
hold onto the football. See Eli is gonna let it go.

Kyler Murray would be handing it off to see Kwon
Bartley Barkley, but he could also be keeping it. I
think you need someone who's willing to hand it off
and then throw it to to that player as well.
So I'm not sure that Giants. I don't see the Dolphins.
I mean, the Dolphins are tanking for a reason because
of the quarterbacks that are there in and those are
the teams that were those are the guys that we
(02:12:09):
think that the Dolphins want to go after. Whether they
get one, two, or three Vegas is already reflected in
their odds of what the Dolphins are are there. They've
got the worst odds of any team to win Super
Bowl fifty four. So I don't see the Dolphins at
that point. I just look at one of those other
I mean, the Raiders have been brought up to you
touched earlier, if if John Gruden would want to get
(02:12:29):
to that to that point, but that's there's there's enough
teams there that are just like, okay, yeah, that could
be a possibility. When last year, what we were saying
was this, Brown's need a quarterback, Giants need a quarterback,
Jets need a quarterback, Bills need a quarterback, Cardinals need
a quarterback. Like those things were laid out. Denver ended
(02:12:50):
up not taking one, but there wasn't a lot of
We didn't think the Bucks were going to take a
quarterback in the draft. We don't think that we knew
the Bears weren't going to when they were picking in
the top ten. And this year it's different. It's not
like that. Yeah, you get a number fifteen with Washington
after the Alex Smith injury, Uh, certainly in play there
the Titans Mariota's injuries, Maybe you've got to go back
and look at a quarterback again. Should he fall down
(02:13:13):
that farm, maybe Rudolph's the answer. In Pittsburgh, I don't
know the Oakland things curious just from a John Gruden,
we're talking about shotting an arm in Vegas, mr literally
Vegas miss direction as a team that doesn't have a
home right now and is limbattled legally with the city
of Oakland over many things where they're playing the Raider
(02:13:33):
name and the brand and everything else, maybe bringing in
Kyler Murray becomes a here slight a hand move for
a year with John Gruden and his shiny toy well,
I just even look at the top. I mean with
the Raiders at four, two and three, there's not going
to be a quarterback taken. But with this year's draft
being so heavily dependent on defensive line or being a
surplus of defensive lineman there, if you're Arizona and let's
(02:13:58):
just say that you decide that you do want Kyler Murray,
is it worth taking him at number one? Because I
don't think it is. So then all of a sudden,
you've got a deal and you've got you've got you've
got the number one overall. Pick any of Josh Rosen
dangling if that's your if that's your fancy, if you will,
It's just that would be something that would be so
(02:14:19):
intriguing that I don't even know all you could handle.
It would be a huge reboot. And plus with Larry
Fitzgerald coming back. I mean, you're trading away your your
quarterback that you had last year, and you're you're bringing
in a different guy. There's just a lot of questions there.
It is. I'm trying to do all these scenarios. I
think my brain starting to fritz out of who could
trade up and who could move here and there. But
if anybody wants a quarterback, it's gonna be difficult to
(02:14:43):
find out where you can move, just because you're not
sure of all the spots. You know that maybe the
forty Niners would move out of their spot at number
three if they are at number two, if they wanted to.
Maybe the Jets would move out of number three if
they felt that they could get a pass restaurant that
they wanted a few spots down. That's what we no
and that's and that's gonna be the fun of the
silly season of it all the uh combine. Two weeks
(02:15:05):
from now, the A's still saying they're gonna try to
convince Kyler Murray that he's wrong. I like that last ditch,
they retain his rights indefinitely, and eventually maybe he goes
to the Tim Tebow Tebow route and finds himself back
in minor league baseball a few years from now if
things go awry. But you know, up at the top
of the draft board, there's not a lot of obvious right.
(02:15:26):
You mentioned the court lack of quarterbacks. You got Murray,
you got Haskins, and then you've got some appeal for
guys later on, you know, like a Daniel Jones out
of Duke, Clayton Thorson out of Northwestern, just as a
guy that could fit you know a number of systems.
But those are second day, third day guys. They're not
crashing the board unless something crazy happened. Yeah, And and
(02:15:49):
with Arizona at the top, I will say this if
if Kurk curb Street is correct in saying that that
would be a possibility, and he just threw it out there,
it was like, Hey, I wouldn't wouldn't surprise me at
this happened. I think Arizona would be the only team
that was looking at Kyler Murray number one. I don't
think other teams would be willing to make that jump
to get up to number one to draft Kyler Murray,
(02:16:11):
even though they want to reset the franchise. I just
don't think it would be prudent for them to do that.
I think Arizona would be the only team since it's
been brought up today of thinking of number one. Heck,
we're talking a couple of weeks ago of whether or
a couple of months ago, where would he slot. I
just don't think that there's tons of teams that would
put him at number one. No, that's it. But we'll
see what all the measurables are and if see if
(02:16:33):
he blows anybody else away again Kingsbury months ago going, yeah,
I take up number one. There's your shot, buddy, you
got it, you wanted it here, you ended up in
this job. Away you go. Let's see how this plays out.
We've got about two months to go before we get
to that point. The other NFL story of the day, Well,
we got a new running back in Cleveland that's coming

(02:18:00):
their most interesting and exciting season in our lifetimes, and okay, well,
we've had a few moments along the way, and Johnny
Manziel had a little twinkle in his eye but no
the Browns after Baker, Mayfield, Brash and Bold led them
to a number of victories, including a number of stair
(02:18:21):
down wins over Hugh Jackson, while John Dorsey and the
team now emboldened. Oh, first things first, I got put
in the trance by each town, so that it is.
It's hypnotic, isn't it. You just start swaying along along? Yeah,
(02:18:43):
years ago, years ago, I sang this song in the network. Yes, yes, long,
long time ago. You're gonna have to go find that tape?
Was with me? How about that? Let's go find that? Yeah,
it was. So when all of a sudden the verse dropped,
(02:19:03):
I'm like, oh yeah, oh not long. By the way,
I'll get to your bronze. Take last week, Erin's herres
and myself. We're in for you and Jason and I
asked Alex, I said, you know, I've done the show
a bunch and I've never asked, what is slide over

(02:19:23):
was Dan, it's just like fight Club the first lease.
You don't ask you so, so he has your back.
He wouldn't even reveal it. He wouldn't even reveal WLD
slide over Baby hour was that's it, buddy. Thanks, welcome in.
You're part of it. You're part of it. You may
you may not know what it's all about, but welcome,
welcome on in, and we appreciate you being here with
(02:19:44):
us for a couple of nights this week with the
Cleveland Bronze thing, and I'll get I'll get us back
on track completely. I can take Well, let me just
set it up real quick. So they've signed Kareem Hunt,
still an on the ongoing investigation by the NFL, not
suspended on the exemple list, missed the final five games
of the season, waved in late November. You have the
(02:20:07):
video that emerged him shoving and kicking a woman last February.
We've seen the tape a number of times. Kareem Hunt
issues another apology and John Dorsey makes his statement about
investigating and discussions with Kareem Hunt. What I think is
weird and and first of all, it's not a Cleveland
Browns thing. It is, but it really isn't. Because the
(02:20:29):
Cleveland Browns just happened to be the team that signed him.
There were going there was going to be another team
that signed him at the Cleveland Browns didn't, so it's
not just the Cleveland Browns. There have been reports Mike
at the end of the regular season into the playoffs,
the teams were looking at Kareem Hunt. Well, sure, it
became a very hot button seventy two hours in Chicago
because of his former Matt Naggy being in Chicago and
(02:20:51):
the questions about Jordan Howard and his contract going forward,
whether they'd move on from Howard and maybe bring bringing
Hunt to work with Rico. The question is, and I
know that he missed the five games to end the
regular season, obviously didn't play in the playoffs because he
wasn't on a team. Is it is five games enough?
(02:21:13):
Isn't the question? The investigation isn't done. Kareem Hunt's actually
gonna get paid more than what he would have on
his rookie deal. Who's the real like, where's where's the lesson,
where's the real punishment? Where's the processes? Seem out of sorts,
and even even in the statement like it it but
(02:21:37):
I think you should get a second chance. But when
you reach out and you say, like, I apologize for
my actions, your actions were towards someone, and every time
you don't bring up that's you could have just you
have to say your name, I apologize, you know, to
the victim in the like. That would be the first
(02:21:59):
thing out that I would be like, Okay, I understand,
like like like like I can. I can see that
you're trying to you're not trying to run away from this,
And that's what I just wish I would see. I
don't I don't think that enough time has gone by
and enough has happened for this to happen so quickly.
And that's what's just made me not feel right about it.
(02:22:22):
And that and that's one of the things. Right we're
talking late November when he's released by the Chiefs. Video
has been out and we've all seen it a number
of times. Uh. John Dorsey did address the media after afterwards.
We talked with Kenny wrote a little bit earlier. There
was concerned perhaps that it would just be a written statement,
but he actually did meet the medium. Every time you
(02:22:44):
go through these very difficult situations and these types of actions,
you have to study everything, uh, from the person for sure,
the person, and then find out are they willing to
be better people moving forward? And again this happens to
be one of those situations where at the at the
end of the day and the organization was comfortable moving
(02:23:05):
forward with signing this player. Now, Dorsey had done all
the due diligence of Kareem Hunt in his background and
everything leading up to the draft as a member of
the Chiefs front office at the time. Now they have
not reached out to the woman involved in the incident. Uh,
the team will have a zero tolerance policy for him
on further incidence, is what Dorsey said. Now, we take
(02:23:29):
that as as it is. Right, that's all you can
do in in this particular statement. But you're going November
to now, seasons over. But you've got a minimal investment. Sure,
you take a reputation hit in Cleveland right now, Dorsey's king, right,
everything shuffled out a bunch of component parts. They brought
(02:23:50):
in Baker Mayfield, right, so he's able to say, all right,
you gotta trust me. You can go to Tyreek Hill,
who's doesn't have a video tape. But the incidents he
was involved in and the descriptions thereof you know, are
are equally abhorrant. But he's playing It's actually worse when
(02:24:11):
you go through all of the transcripts and everything. But
he's playing, got his second chance become a superstar in
the league. NFL celebrating him. They got a whole video
up with him, and you say, bolt in a bunch
of speed competitions, you know, the old let me slap
your hand and all those kind of things. Let's race
and do all this on the same day that Kareem
Hunts signed. So it's a kind of an odd look,
(02:24:35):
uh and and distasteful for some. But for Kareem Hunt.
You know, when you look at it from the Browns,
not a lot of investment for a guy who was
the leading rushure and the National Football League. Even if
you have a guy like Nick Chubb on your roster
already nearly a thousand yards, the investments minimal, and you're
you're playing with house money in terms of your reputation
(02:24:56):
for what you've been able to do with the franchise
this year. There are two things. Number One, if there
was a team that signed Kareem Hunt and you did
never running back, you would say, oh, hey, talent wins.
You know you're running back talent wins. If the Brons
were a team that was that, we're the old Browns
it's out. That's why they're the same old Browns, same
(02:25:18):
this is. But the Browns are an up and coming team,
so it does have a different feel. And you've got
Nick Chubb there already. But as we saw with the
with the Los Angeles Rams, if you want to really
go football of this, maybe you need to running backs
to carry the load. And I'm thinking that's what John
Dorsey is thinking. John Dorsey and the Browns don't care
(02:25:41):
if Kareem Hunt gets suspended for the first eight games
of the season. Guess what, They've got a fresh running
back week nine or week ten, whatever. However the schedule
plays out where they can now have a one two
punch with Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb. Now at that point,
if it is an eight game suspension, which I think
(02:26:02):
is probably the most that you would get, he would
have missed thirteen games for the action, and I think
that there would be a penalty. Plus you would be
missing a lot of the million dollars from those game checks,
and that's could be another issue. But if it's just
a play right away, if there's nothing from the NFL,
I think it's gonna rub a lot of people the
wrong way. Fox Borns Radio Jason Smith Show with Mike

you know, from a different angle. They're collecting checks from
all over the board. Dan Uh and your guys got
hit for what seemed to me a pretty innocuous statement.
That's coming up next, But first we step out to
(02:26:46):
Deb Carson and we find out what went on again
the sporting universe. She's gonna talk really fast through a
lot of scores. Alrighty, well, well we'll start with all
of these streaks in the NBA. Several continue tonight, including
the futility straight for the Knicks. They've lost seventeen in
a row. Now Cleveland beat New York one oh seven,
one oh four. On a happier note, thirty straight thirty
(02:27:07):
plus point games for James Harden. He had thirty one
points tonight in the Rockets one twenty one oh four
Home went over the Mavericks. Nuggets beat the Heat one
oh three, eight seven. Nicola Yokich with a double double.
Another triple double for Russell Westbrook in fact, it's a
record ten straight triple doubles as the thunder beat the
Trailblazers one one eleven. His teammate Paul George also with
(02:27:28):
a significant triple double in that win. In college wops,
fourth rank Virginia beat eighth rank North Carolina sixty one
DeAndre Hunter with twenty points for the Calves and fourteenth
ranked Kansas needed overtime to get by t Cut one
in for worth. Online car shopping can be confusing, not anymore.

That's at least what the league is talking about doing.
The league celebrates its one hundred season this year. It's
(02:28:10):
leaning toward having the Packers at the Bears in Chicago
as the opening game Thursday, September five. Another NFL news,
Kyler Murray has chosen a pro football over baseball. He'll
still be owned by the Oakland A's as far as
his MLB rights, Brown signed running back Kareem Hunt to
a reported one year contract, although he's still facing an
NFL suspension, and the Panthers signed Eric Read to a
(02:28:33):
three year, twenty two million dollar deal with ten million
bucks in guarantees. We'll be back with the Jason Smith

(02:28:54):
Then affiliates products not available in every state. Mike, Carmen,
Dan Buyer back to you, guys, Step you know the
conversation we're just having with Kareem Hunt being signed. I
opened that the mike to you. You know when you
saw that this morning and you put it up on
your Twitter account at deb Carson, you know what went
through your mind when you saw that him getting back
into the league in the second chance. To be honest,
(02:29:16):
I wasn't surprised. Um I was surprised actually when the
Chiefs cut him. Um I was kind of pleasantly surprised
because it felt like it made a statement. But I
wasn't surprised that somebody picked him up. And I'm not surprised.
I know we talked earlier on the Odd Couple about
you know, Rob Parker said he was disappointed he was
he was picked up so early. I'm not surprised because
he's going to be sitting and waiting a while to
(02:29:36):
play anyway, somebody was going to pick him up, and
he does deserve a second chance to play. I mean,
what he did was hideous. There are other guys playing
in the league that have done really hideous things as well. Um,
he does deserve a second chance. Um. I just hope
he's learned his lesson. Thank you, Debt wanted to give
you your opportunity to contribute there. Thank you appreciate it.
(02:29:58):
That's deb Carson. We your updates for the evening. We're

go to Geico dot com or call seven Auto. The
only hard part figuring out which way is easier. He's
Dan Buyer in for Jason Smith on Mike rmen, thanks
for taking some time with us this evening. Now, tampering
has been all the shiny teeth of Magic Johnson for
(02:30:22):
several weeks. All I see is every photo that's attached
to this story has been Magic smiling at me, making
me feel like everything's gonna be okay. I just keep
waiting for him get you know, a lot of fewer over.
Will Smith as the genie in the live action A Laddin.
The trailer dropped and he's blue like a smurf. Yeah,
(02:30:43):
people aren't happy. Um, I think it's Magic Johnson right
now wants to spin the ball off the Magic hour
like it's the flashy thing Will Smith used in Men
in Black so it erases your memory. No, we're all good.
I didn't do any tampering. This team just assembled itself.
But the NBA has decided you talk about a player
at all, you know what, you get a fight there, Oprah,
(02:31:05):
You get a fight and you get a fine. And
now Mark Lazarie has been fined k for his comments
about Anthony Davis this past week. Here's the the quote
when Davis was allegedly uh telling somebody that the Lakers, Knicks, Clippers,
and the Bucks were potentially on his long term plans
(02:31:28):
places he could be and well, the report was this,
here's the quote to Sporting News. I saw that report.
I think it's great. It's a little bit of what
we want. We want players to come and play in Milwaukee.
And part of it is when you're winning and you're
setting a standard for excellent people. See that pretty good, right,
good quote. I like that. We're excited. People want to win.
Doesn't make a difference if you're in Milwaukee, New Yorker,
(02:31:49):
l A. The whole goal is winning. This is a
good speech. I really I want to go run through
a wall firm. Here's the problem. He then name checks
at the DAVI of so we hope it would be
players like Anthony Davis and others who want to come
to Milwaukee. To me, that doesn't that that's not find
herbal That's a guy just saying, yes, we want superstars here.
We want stars. We want our fans to All he
(02:32:11):
had to say was he players like him and he
doesn't get fine. This is this is the NBA again
being so sensitive because I don't want to say everybody,
because it's not everybody, but there is a group of
people out there who feel that the NBA is rigged
and it's ragged for the best teams, which is no absurd,
but there's enough of a history that the NBA probably
(02:32:33):
wants to make people forget, whether it be Tim Donahee
and what happened in the two thousand two Western Conference Finals,
and no matter what you thought happened in with the
Knicks big, there are still many of those who feel
of the dent in chreast corner, the frozen envelope. However,
whatever theory that you want, you probably still believe it
if you believed it back then. But there's a couple
(02:32:55):
of things to this. First of all, thank goodness it's
a small market team like Milwaukee, because how many other
times have we heard tampering coming along with the likes
of Memphis or Charlotte's. It doesn't happen, you know, you
don't get tampering like that. I mean, the Indiana Pacers
had to file the grievance because of the Lakers and
(02:33:15):
the Paul George situation. There's the Pacers were the ones
who are trying to keep it. So now it's kind
of the roles are reversed that a small market team
was included in all of this, what's disappointing is that
the Bucks were not a realistic option for Anthony Davis
to go to via the trade deadline. So when Anthony
Davis put out this list of teams, there wasn't a
way that the Bucks could really swing a deal that
(02:33:37):
would allow them to to acquire Anthony there he's coming
there after if he decided to come in free agency
trade for him, like, they wouldn't have the picks that
would offer what was going on with what the Pelicans
may want at the trade deadline, that wasn't going to happen.
So it's almost a little bit by circum stance, Mike.
(02:34:01):
But then this also goes to the bigger picture of
small market and large market teams. And when you look
at the small market teams and when you look at
the NBA playoff picture right now, when you take the
East and you take the top four teams in the
East Milwaukee, Toronto, Indiana, and Philadelphia, your top four teams
in Boston would be fifth, but you've got the Bucks
and the Pacers there. Toronto is not necessarily a huge
(02:34:23):
hot bed for free agency that were able to swing
their deal and build their team. The point being is
the Raptors built their team, the Bucks built their team,
the Pacers have built their team, and they aren't New
York Chicago in Los Angeles. And then you look at
the Western Conference and sure the Warriors are on top,
but you've got the Nuggets, You've got Oklahoma City. I
(02:34:45):
think you can consider Portland's a small market team. So
the small market aspect of this, and this can go
all the way back to the Pelicans not getting a
winner or not keeping a winner. It's a different NBA.
So when you're looking at small markets, and I was
the guy who said free angels will never come to
small markets. And guess what, now we see Paul George
wanting to stay with that team. Things end up changing
(02:35:07):
and my mind was changed. So now I do believe
that small market teams are are being more on the
up and up with the NBA. And now if they're
being fine for tampering, a new day has arrived in
the Associated Look at that celebration of fines. You get you,
I just find you for fun, dan Uh. But yeah,
the Knicks are vying for Zion Williamson. You'll look at
(02:35:29):
the Clippers and Lakers. Right now, if we've had playoffs
today there below them and knows a line as you know,
the batting two hundred, they're out, uh, Clippers and Lakers
sitting at nine and ten, respectively, Dallas behind them in
the top eight. Sacramento, San Antonio, Utah, Houston big market.
But otherwise you're talking about mid lower, lower market teams
(02:35:54):
go back to the East again. Charlotte Brooklyn has been
and also ran forever. But I guess you captured the
New York market to a degree. But it's not the
same as the Knicks and MS Press and I think eight,
nine and ten we're not talking about like the real
big markets were talking about our l a New York
in Chicago you got it, you know. And the Bulls
(02:36:15):
can't get out of their own way. They if you're
loyal to Jerry Ryan's door, if you get to stay forever.
That is what it really comes down to. But but
that's the curious thing as as we go through, as
players make their decisions. Look from a straight NBA salary perspective,
you're gonna get paid anywhere, right, I mean, that's the thing.
In New Orleans, they're gonna give Anthony Davis every time
(02:36:35):
of the Max and as many smoothies as he wanted
for the rest of his life. I mean, there's no question,
but you decide you want to win. You Bill, as
his statement said, I've been there for seven years. They
haven't been able to do it. How much of that
is him and his angst versus Paul and and Lebron
James and everybody getting into his head, We'll never know
(02:36:57):
for sure. But the reality is you had run and
two contracts to keep them around. Yeah, and you you
mentioned it earlier. You let Ronda leave, to Marcus Cousins leaves,
you try to bring in Julius Randall. This was their opportunity,
like you were building something and you made it to
the Western Conference semifinals last season. This offseason sealed the
(02:37:19):
fate of Anthony Davis. On top of the other six
years that he had with that organization. It wasn't so
much of how this year played out. Actually take that back.
It is how this year played out. But it all
started with how you handled this off season. That's why
Anthony Davis wants to go elsewhere. And then everything rolls
up on top of you. You lose the NFC title
(02:37:40):
game and this comes in short order. I think everybody
was confused and bewildered by it, and maybe New Orleans
thought they had taken care of their house and it
was just inevitable because of the size of the max
for staying in New Orleans. That Anthony Davis wasn't gonna
be an issue. It was addressed everything else. And then
all of a sudden raised his hand and say, hey,
I'm out, I'm done with you, and it sets all
(02:38:01):
of this into motion. But the bucks into the tampering, Yes,
that's when there you go. Now they're scared, fear, the
fear the deer, as it were, He's damn buyer. On
Mike Rman, this is the Jason Smith Show with Mike

heart able loon landing on a car to a load
of concrete falling on one, we've covered it. Talk to farmers,
we know a thing or two because we've seen a
thing or two. We are farmers under written my Farmers

Ah yeah, slide over baby. Our continues here Fox Sports
(02:39:05):
Trading on Mike Carmen alongside Dan Buyer in for Jason
Smith this evening The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen.
You know the Alliance played this weekend. Dan, there was
a little controversy over a flag thrown on Trent Richardson. Yes,
that Trent Richardson, as we talked about Cleveland Brown's running
backs a little earlier in the show. You know, he
(02:39:25):
spiked the ball after a score and it it bounced
into the stands, thus necessitating a flag. People said, wait
a minute, we saw the Washington hit on Burke of
each we saw the stuff. There's no flags. Are throwing
a football into the stands is a fifteen yard on
Sports and Light conduct pall Why the balls are equipped
(02:39:45):
with tracking device chips, so if it goes in it
was they added the r F I D tracking chips
to discover the speed rate, spin rate, and trajectory of
the football. They're gonna do a lot of stuff on
their ad and an innovation. Uh So, it looks like
the rule was put in place so they wouldn't give
away money. Just just like the softball game that only
(02:40:08):
has two softballs, and so once there's back to back
foul balls, you have to wait for the dad to
go and get the other one and then throw up
back into play. That's it's very not exact, but very similar.
You got to make sure that the football or whatever
type of ball you're playing with, it's got to stay
out the field. Well, my my daughter plays, was playing
in an all star league for for soccer right representing
(02:40:31):
the area, and uh well they pick a couple of
balls before the game that become two on either side.
Uh so someone's got to go chase. So usually I
get some cardio in put the box of the game.
I got chased down the balls as we go. Now
up in the studio here, we we've had a tremendous
event tonight we'll get to the play of the night
in just a moment, but maybe maybe it should have
(02:40:52):
come from the corner hole titled I Mean lead the lap.
Was so enthralled with what Dan and I were talking
about just a few minutes ago, he jumped out of
his seat. Dan was on new his ruse, Uh and
that well, we're watching Uh, I'm a doubles corn hole competition.
In addition to the Bears losing to the Eagles Nats guys. Uh,
(02:41:12):
but that's something happenly that got you all excited and
we need an explanation. Yeah, full disclosure. This is the championship.
I have been you've got money on these people? No,
but I have been covering the or not covering covering it.
Where's your blog? You got credential? Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Here we go. Um yeah, American Cornhole League. I've been
watching the pro uh, the pro ams here and uh.
(02:41:36):
I've been following these guys from Virginia. I haven't been
big fans of them, but they made it to the championship.
And I was going for Matthew Surrell's and Emery Parker,
but they got knocked out by Jordan Kamba and Derrick King.
I was very upset. He knocked in three bags there
at the end for the win. You know he's got
all name recognition. Dan, that's the next level stuff. I
think we should start having Lee as our cornhole inside.
Apparently all you need is an under armour hat and
(02:41:58):
a beard to show up to these things. Looking on
the beer. You know, the college was a little more
level field. Now they have retirees and construction workers in
the in the pro in the Pro League, so all
I imagine the smack talking could get pretty cool after
a while. The amateur status the different level, he said pros.
I saw they put occupation up and one and one
(02:42:19):
woman that wasn't an accountant. Cool. Yeah, and then she
was counting the bags. Yeah. Fox Sports Radio, he's Dan Buyer.
I'll bike Armen find him on Twitter at Dan Buyer
on Fox find me over at swalling down time for
the play of the night. We're gonna go too. Back
to the association where Kauai Leonard was actually at work.
(02:42:43):
Kawai try pull up jumper bank to them and raises
this fast Kawai letter banks, hold my sixteen putter. He
finds a bank open at n seven on a Monday
night in downtown Toronto. We're gonna get you a time
stamp along the way on the Raptors Radio network. Leonard
for the night finishes with thirty points down twenty from
(02:43:06):
the field, nine of nine free throws and eight assists,
and a closer in the two point win over the Nets.
That's one of your big questions. I've seen your wringing
your hands every time I bring up the Bucks. Well,
it's it's in the issue that Toronto doesn't have Toronto
as a guy that's gonna shoot the ball when when
the game is on the line of guy that they're
gonna go to. The seventy Sixers have a guy now
(02:43:27):
in Jimmy Butler. Heck, you could even be j J
Reddick the Boston Celtics when Kyrie Irving is healthy, as
the guy who should take the last shot. Shouldn't be
Jason Tatums, shouldn't be Gordon Hayward. It should be Kyrie Irving.
That's gonna be the question with Milwaukee is this is
a team that leads the league and with double digit victories,
they've got the biggest point differential in the entire NBA.
They haven't played a lot of close games, so when
(02:43:48):
it's a close game, Who's gonna take that final shot?
Because if you put the ball in Yatis's hand, as
unstoppable as he is, Mike, if he gets fouled, the
free throws may not be the strength. It's the question
of who would take that final shot. If you're Milwaukee.
Toronto now has a guy that they know that can
make that final show also added a big night. Marcus
s Ault came up big for them as well, So
(02:44:09):
curiosity as we shuffle things in the ease. Great news
is a quick and easy way you could save money.
You can switch to Geico. It only takes fifteen minutes
to see if you could say or more on car insurance.
Go to Geico dot com see how much you could save. Dan,
We'll be back at it again tomorrow night. We'll see
if the NFL has any more storylines. The NFL took today,
(02:44:31):
Clippers lost today? Was that a big deal? Sacramento right
now sitting in that eight spot in the West That
we'll be back at it full night of the Association
ahead of the All Star break and more. Dan Buyer,
Mike Carman, Ben Maller coming up next here on Fox.
