(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings and welcome inside.
Happy Friday, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon from the Geico Studios. We have football overload
for you tonight. We got the Clipper, we got the
Lakers and the Pelicans, we got Cespitus and the wild Boar.
(00:44):
Mike Harmon taking a lot of care and making sure
I knew about the Cespenus wild Boar story. Thank you
Mike for sending that to me about five times today.
Oh the other ten didn't come true, then those must
have been intercepted by the rest of your family as
you vacation in Detroit. Now that's when I that's when
I blocked yours, Mike. I'll tell you just madness, I
(01:06):
tell you delete Delete. I suspect that I was on
the paid on mind list for many a year here
on Fox Sports. Ready, you've just confirmed it nationwide. Well, listen,
you can't keep sending me the same email over and
over and over. No, no, no no, it doesn't allow me
to send the exact same Yeah, but it's like trying
to post, you know, the same thing when you're watching
a game, you know, Jet, You when you're mocking the Jets,
(01:29):
it says you already said that, So you have to
change it up a little bit to mock them in
a different way. Now, hang on, let's let's let's let's
have full disclosure here, because Frostburg was in on this too. Frostburg,
when you sent that email today about Cespedas getting hurt,
you know, we got money Nets had to give money
back to or he gave money back to the Mets
this year, and maybe he's gonna play because he stepped
in a hole in his ranch. We now find out
(01:51):
it was because he was being chased by a wild boar.
Because he set board traps on his ranch. It's not
a bad way. I mean, he at least set traps.
What is he, Hannibal Lecter, you know what he was
going to him to the pigs he bought that pig
a few years ago and eight and I'm sure, but
it was an eight dollar pig. Wouldn't that story first
(02:11):
got sent out, Frostberg thought it was about ya. I
screwed up. I told him. I told him, I got
me all excited, I said, peg because he was kind
of hoping the White Sox would take their shot on
Queek and this would have been you know, ain't on
my face since generally we've had it for the Jets
and the Mets. I would actually make you guys relevant
for a second. Oh look at you, Look at you
(02:33):
get excitable lot of Friday. Yeah. See now I'm just
picturing that that last scene in or that scene in
Hannibal with Cespenas involved in it. Well, he kind of
escalated quickly with the guy with the plastic face. Cordell,
throw him in. That's what I would do. No, no, no,
they can film that scene in today's day. You know why,
he'd have to use a paper straw. I'm sorry that
(02:56):
it's so dated now because they're using act He wouldn't
be able to eat these scourge of a restaurant goers.
Have you started carrying the metal straw? Well, oftentimes I've
got the plastic straw at the ready. Hey, I have
a Now I have as well. Especially well, not in Detroit,
because here in Detroit, where I am the mobile guy coasts,
they just tell all kinds of plastic. This is not
(03:18):
Los Angeles, where you know the city is like l
A and New York. Hey, we're in on all the
new things to save the environment. No, No, here in Detroit.
Yeah whatever, you got all kinds of big plastic straws
for whatever. Thea hanging from the six pack plastic thing.
He's got white castles. When I go to McDonald's, it's
the O non biodegradable of foam container. Now you're talking
(03:39):
just like Dennis Leary sang about all those years ago
looking up millennials sucking down those grease burgers. And yeah,
and before we go any further about wild boars. Yes,
last night, when I left here, I left the studios
here in Detroit, I went to White Castle, right through
the line, nobody in front of me. I got a
(04:00):
couple of cheeseburgers and a drink. It was awesome. That
was the biggest lock of any pick anybody will make
this entire year. With Todd Furman, yeah, Well, we'll talk
to Todd Furman uh in the slide over Baby Hour
Live from Vegas. Will join us for wild Card weekend.
But uh yeah, setting the odds on that one, there
(04:20):
were no tab Yeah, there was nothing you could do
to entice people to bet that you would not walk
away with at least fifteen white castles, you know. And
the thing is is that when I when I got
there and I ordered, I was eating it and I'm
driving home and listening to the radio, and I just go,
I can't believe I was debating not going What was
I thinking? What was I thinking not going to Whitecastle?
I understand what got into me? Well, I don't want
(04:45):
to say what got into you there, because you know,
we're always looking for more people to join Team Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon here on Fox Sports Radio,
because I was gonna say, you know, rationality, your heart,
all those things. At the bottom line, though, is you
You did a good show and you were looking for
a reward, and what better way than a giant satchelists. No,
(05:08):
no, no no, no, no no. It was only two and
they're small burgers. You did not eat only two bad
I'm calling Shenan No that's how many times he went
through the drive through I had. I had to double cheeseburgers.
I didn't have to. I had doubled, but they were
still tiny. They're still tiny, so I'm I'm gonna double that.
I mean, you only really get reality. You only get
(05:30):
calories if you have four or more. So I really
Detroit rules. Yes, that's that's why they're the most athletic
and physically fit state in the Union. I was really
gonna get they haven't. They have this new um. Not
because I was gonna get, but I'm like, no, I
can't get it now because it's driving home. It's too tough.
(05:52):
I would just spill it everywhere. I don't want to
do that. You couldn't. No, I know it was gonna
be too with will sloppy Joe. What am I to do?
I'm driving it's cold. It's no, no that it was.
It was enough to just get the regular and maybe
I'll get a sloppy Joe this weekend. You gotta get
a sloppy Joe. Just so we can see the case
study that a smith looked like at the end of
the consumption of one of these. By the way, no
(06:14):
hands looks exactly the same on the way out again.
Whitecastle not a sponsor of the show. Uh so while
we are keeping track, No, they could, well they could.
Hey we got somebody eating Whitecastle, let's go get them.
Maybe they eat the sloppy Joe. I'm han't have that one,
so why and Soma time to run band Patty's feet.
(06:40):
So yes, while we're talking about Cespedis hurting his ankle
and missing all of last year because he stepped into
a hole evading a wild boar on his property. True story.
H The big NFL weekend is about to come upon
us as we have four wild card games to get to.
We have big maneuverings going on in the coaching situation sation.
We brought to the story last night that it looks
(07:01):
like the Cowboys are gonna move on from Jason Garrett.
And speaking of moving on, there is no bigger anticipatory
situation then the Patriots tomorrow potentially playing their final game
of the year and Tom Brady potentially playing his final
game with the New England Patriots. There's been a lot
(07:22):
talked about this. We've talked about this for months. This
is where it looks like it's going. And now you
are seeing the Tom Brady leaving train picking up a
lot of momentum. Brady even said today, this is part
of my wait and see where am I gonna come back?
I'm worried about the game tomorrow, and that's it. Bill
Belichicka said the same thing. But outside of Brady and
(07:42):
and the mounting evidence that he's leaving, you know, the
trail of crumbs with selling his house, his trainers, selling
his house, opting out of his contract. I'll give you
a big piece of new evidence that tells you that
Brady is moving on and it has nothing to do
with him all right now, how you are seeing all
around the NFL team starting to line up their coaching interviews.
(08:05):
The Browns have started, the Giants have started. Who is
being asked to interview and wants to interview but can't
for another week because they're still playing. Josh McDaniels, Patriots
offensive coordinator. He's on everybody's list, but because of this rule,
Josh McDaniels can interview until the Patriots are out of
the playoffs, or you wait a week. You get to
that dead time when when when people can talk. Josh
(08:26):
McDaniels on a list here but wait a minute, Wait
a minute, he was on the list couple of years
ago and he actually took the coach job and then
he decided against it. Well, what happened back then? More
than likely people we talked to on the show various
insiders and said, listen, some kind of agreement was made
that when Bill Belichick steps down, at some point, Josh
McDaniels takes over, and it's probably gonna be some time
(08:46):
in the New Yar future. So Josh McDaniels says, Okay,
I'm gonna stay. It's what I want to do. I'm
gonna wait. But now he's interviewing again, because why wouldn't
you go two years ago when you had Andrew Luck,
you had money to spend an offensive line. You didn't
know Andrew Luck was gonna write hi or two years ago.
I mean, if you did, that was really dirty pool
not telling anybody, but you know, that's the job you take.
That's you're in a position to succeed. But he pulls out.
(09:08):
But now that Josh McDaniels is interviewing, wait, wait a second,
So he's interviewing. If he's interviewing, that means he might
not be next in New England for a while. Why
wouldn't he be next in New England? Because Bill Belichick
has decided, you know what, I'm gonna stay a little
bit longer. Tom's gonna leave. And even throughout this entire hey,
we get along, We get along. You know they don't
(09:28):
You know that Belichick and Brady each want to win
without the other one. So now that Brady looks like
he's gonna be the one going, Belichick is staying. So
now here's Josh McDaniels going, Well, I can't wait ten
years to go interview, to wait for him to retire
and step in. I'm gonna leave right now. Look it happened.
Happened in Syracuse. Mike Hopkins was supposed to be the
next head coach when Jim Beheim retired. Behead decides I'm
(09:49):
gonna stay for a few more years, and Mike Hopkins decides,
all right, I'm going to Washington and now he's doing
really good things at University of Washington. You can only
wait so long. So why is he interviewing now? Ow
if you think he's going to take over at some
point for Belichick, because Belichick is thing, because Brady is going.
So we can show I'm gonna win without tom and
this is another piece of evidence why that divorce is happening,
(10:11):
and tomorrow could be that last time we see it happened.
Look at you getting your Josh McDaniels. Uh what investigatory
had out Belichick at sixty seven years old? Willie stick
around at least seventy keep rolling on? Look, you're twelve
and four this year. You lose the final game. That's
the only one that really mattered in all of this
because it actually had some playoff implications. That's the first
(10:35):
so that was a shocker. But with Brady, we've lined
up all the crumbs, all the tea leaves, whatever you
want to do, and it's been the foregone conclusion. I
think he's been photoshopped into about nine different teams uniforms
at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't
find people selling Brady merch for their favorite team at
this point. That's how far some of these rumors have gone.
(10:57):
Bill Belichick, I know it's the how long can he
keep at it and want to run with this group
of players and with this coaching staff, with Josh McDaniels,
Is he ready did anything that you saw this year
suddenly decide he was gonna be the the wonder kid.
(11:18):
He's not. He's not that same guy, I don't think
right with that reputation. But there's still looking for somebody
like there's not There's nobody like that. Now, look, you
had Kyle Shanahan, you had Sean McVeigh, you had that
run of guys who are the next young wonder kinned
offensive corners. There's no guys like that. Josh McDaniels had
fit that a little bit. I mean I think teams
want him to fit it a little bit more than
(11:40):
he really does. I wanted to fill out that suit
more than he really does fill out the suit. But
he does at least fall into that category. I think
it comes down to if you're thinking you're getting him
in a package deal, right, that you're getting McDaniels and
Brady together, then then we've got some some legs here
as you go, because Brady's shown the affinity for McDaniels,
and obviously it's worked. So know, if you're at one
(12:00):
of these teams in need of a coach and you
can get the the package deal of Brady coming along
with that, doesn't fit the giants who look like they're
gonna go McCarthy way anyway. Uh, Cleveland, are you giving
up on Baker Mayfield after two years? You might want to,
but you're probably not. You. You elevated him and gave
him way too much power, way too much influence, but
(12:22):
then you fired everybody that he loved, and loved him
right Dorsey and and Freddie Kitchens are no longer behind
door number two pulling the strings and propping him up,
so you could certainly pull the rug out from under
him there, but then it just becomes a net a
case of fit and where you go to and most
of those places you're not gonna suddenly eleventh hour fire
(12:45):
one of those coaches to make room for McDaniels and Brady.
So I think that's one of the curiosities of this
is where would he end up because it's not a guy,
the grizzled veteran with that pedigree, like we've been talking
with Jay Glazer and others where it seemed like the
coaching hiring was gonna go this time around Twitter at
how about a Fresca Mike at Swollen Dome The Jason
(13:07):
Smith Show with my best friend, Mike Carmen, I mean
it follow the crumbs. McDaniel's interviewing means he's not taking
over New England because Belichick is going to stay, and
that means Brady is going to leave it. Just more
mounting evidence. Now, speaking of the Pagriots will pick all
the games this coming We kinda got some shocking picks
for you as we have the four wild card games.
We'll get to some of them coming up later on
(13:29):
this hour, but straight ahead, we are starting to see
coaches interview with teams. How about we tell you where
the three biggest openings are gonna end up? How does
that sound? Let's get it. That's coming up next right here.
Jason Smith, Mike Carman, Happy Friday, Fox Sports Radio, Happy
Thanksgiving everybody. Be sure to catch live editions of The
(13:51):
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harman weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I
Heart Radio app FO Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show
with My best friend Bike Harmen live from the Mobile
Geico Studios. Mike in l a Me in Detroit for
the rest of the weekend. Weekending in Detroit. And there's
(14:12):
a bad song or sitcom to be had there. You know,
speaking of titles, I was thinking about Yoanna Cesspitis on
the Wild Boar. Sounds like a rejected Harry Potter title. Yeah,
or the way you pronounced it, something that came out
of the valley. Uh So, yeah, weekend weekending in Detroit.
(14:32):
And I'll tell you what do we have? Do we
have some kind of crazy weekend plan for the final
weekend in Detroit? It is It is just off the hook.
I can't even tell you. I can't even tell the
slide of her Baby Hour. It's so it's such a
big deal. I enjoy the fact that you called it
the final weekend in Detroit as if you've had like
a residency, like you're an act in Vegas or video
(14:53):
for a week and a half. Mike, I'm ready to
come back to l A. I'm ready to come back home.
Nobody made you go. I wanted to stay married, so
I went, yeah, they're now you've done the other nineteen years.
Now it's time to time to switch it up. It's time, Pam,
It's time. It's not yet time. I'm just gonna stay
(15:14):
in l A and lay in the bed and eat
pringles all By myself for like a week and a half.
That is right, Uh, not that I can't eat Pringles
by myself. I just all by myself. I need someone
to feel out. Your hand would get stuck in the jar.
We all know that what happened, and that's somehow he
gets one. On the other hand, sir Pringles signed by
(15:37):
Mike D'Antoni. I'd be like a Pringle's Edward scissor hands, Like,
can't just walking around the house trying to knock it
to get it off, Like when dogs get their noses
stuck like in a bottle and they just keep shaking
it to trying to get it off. It's just shaking
my hands trying to get some Springles cans a cone
of shame. Smith's style. We got Jason Cole coming up
in a little bit less than ten minutes from now.
NFL Insider will talk, Hall of Fame, will take a
(15:59):
look at the game, all the NFL topics you need.
But let's do this right now. Is now the NFL
head coaching the second round of hiring, because the first
round was Ron Rivera, Oh happy Thanksgiving. By the way,
where are the head coaching candidate's going to end up
the Giants are in the middle of their interviews, the
brown just starting to conduct their interviews, and now what
about the Dallas Cowboys, because Mike Zimmer has been rumored
(16:22):
to be a guy that Jerry Jones wants. That story
broke earlier today and immediately the Vikings put out a
statement saying, we have every intention in keeping Mike Zimmer.
He's our coach. We want him. So whether that was
a flare sent up by Jerry Jones, something that was
thrown out there just to see if they could cast
a wide net, it seems like Mike Zimmer is a
(16:44):
name that was thrown out there and the Vikings, Hey,
we're onto you, Jerry Jones, and we are going to
try to keep Mike Zimmer. If I'm trying to figure
out who's gonna get the Dallas job, I'm gonna go by.
I'm gonna go with very simple philosophy that I think
can't you can't overestimate what I'm gonna say. The Cowboys
(17:04):
still have Jason Garrett as their head coach, even though
you know Edward Are reported last night they're gonna be
They're ready to move on. It's gonna be officials sometime
in the next couple of dap them there. Keep him there,
come on, keep them there. The rest of the NFL
wants Jason, Karen and Tallas. But the fact that they
haven't fired him yet. Seeing all of these coaches go interview,
all the names are out there, Mike McCarthy, Urban Meyer,
(17:27):
Matt Rule, all of these names are thrown out there.
This tells me that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys aren't
interested in any of these names. Even if it's Urban Meyer.
These are not who Jerry Jones is going after. All
of the names you've for, Josh mcday, everybody's out there.
Jerry Jones has not gone after if none of these
people are on Jerry Jones list, if they're keeping Jason
(17:51):
Garrett right now, So the guy Jerry Jones wants, we
have not heard his name yet. Who's the one big
name that we have heard for a while. This is
gonna be the Cowboys guy. This will be the Cowboys guy.
Just wait, we talked about it a few months ago.
We have not heard his name at all yet. Adam Gate,
we have not heard his name at all yet. Lincoln Riley,
(18:15):
we have not heard one word about Jerry Jone. Lincoln Riley,
Lincoln Riley, anywhere else Lincoln. That's the only name of
all the big candidates we have not heard was Lincoln Riley.
That tells me it's gonna be Lincoln Riley. I like
your process of deduction, like you've been reading some Sherlock
Holmes while hanging out in Detroit as well. Yeah, it's
(18:35):
the Mike Zimmer's got one year left on his Minnesota deal.
The Vikings will do whatever they can, and it seems
to be a formula that's working at least to get
them into the playoffs and ready to roll here. As
long as Dalvin Cook's healthy, it seems anything is possible
in terms of their upside. But Lincoln Riley is certainly
(18:55):
not being connected to the disasters. Right was to Washington
before Ron Rivera became the guy. And Cleveland, God knows
what Haslam is gonna do there right asking for permission
from guy to interview guys, and so I'm just saying,
you know what, I'm out. I want no part of
what you got going on in that building. Wondering if
(19:17):
it needs an exorcism along the way for it. But yeah,
Lincoln Riley, it's been awful quiet I don't know if
some of that is a factor of how they were
humbled in the semi finals, so maybe the heat is off,
so you can work on that behind the scenes. Either way,
I like the way that the Cowboys have gone about it.
Folks can laugh all they want that it's day five,
(19:38):
day six, whatever. He's out of. His contract goes to
the fourteenth. If he keeps accepting lunch invitations to try
to sell sell them on showing up Jason Garrett that is.
And I can't blame Jerry Jones because you also don't
want to look desperate, and I don't think he comes
across as desperate or eking out every bit of information
you can on Jason Garrett. If anything, Anson Garrett at
(20:00):
some point has to raise his hand and say, to
hell with this, I'm done. But you know you worked
behind the closed doors and behind the scenes with Steven Jones,
probably helping to run this a lot more than he's
ever gonna get credit for along the process, much like
telling Dad and locking him in a room. So he
didn't select Johnny Manziel all those years ago, same kind
(20:21):
of deal that there's more to it, But yeah, keeping
quiet on the active search is pretty impressive for a
guy that likes to be in front of a microphone. Well,
and don't forget this too. I mean this was kind
of a you know, and under the radar story a
few days ago. But the Sooner has lost a quarterback
coming in one Brock vander Griffin. Sports Illustrated has a
(20:43):
bit on this because it did an interview with him,
who was initially going to Oklahoma and now de committed,
and Mike Fisher wrote a column for Sports Illustrated saying
that vander Griff told s I that he would not
go to Oklahoma if Lincoln Riley was not a coach.
Now this doesn't mean in and of itself that Lincoln
he's leaving, but here's a guy that was gonna be
headed there and now he's decommitted. He's gonna go someplace else.
(21:05):
So I mean that that we've not heard anything about
Lincoln Riley. All the other names are out there, and
Jerry Jones still has Jason Garrett as his head coach.
This this is why it's gonna be Lincoln Riley. I mean,
I mean, it's it seems pretty simple, But when if
they wanted one of these other guys, Jerry Jones would
have kicked Jason Garrett to the curbs, and okay, we
gotta go get Urban Meyer. We all right, Irban is
(21:27):
gonna talk to the Browns. I don't want him to
take that Brown's job. I want him here in Dallas. Oh,
Matt Rule is talking to the giants. No, I want
Matt Rule coming up right from Bailor. I like Matt Rule.
Any of those guys, any of those names, he would
have already been involved in because he doesn't want to
lose them. The fact that they're still sitting around with
Jason Garrett. It's Lincoln Riley. He's the guy. See. I
like the way you did that. You made him your guy.
(21:49):
I do like the fact that you had a guy
de commit. But let's face it, at this point, Lincoln
Riley at the collegiate level, was going to turn anybody
that shows up at quarterback to gold. Right, you're gonna
gonna put up numbers. Uh. And if you don't want
to go there, that means you just don't trust he's
gonna be there for three years, not necessarily that it's
this year, but that you're not going to get the
significant growth and development that you are anticipating, So no,
(22:13):
I had a grain of salt. But just you just
need one year with Lincoln Riley. Apparently, you know, Baker
Mayfield came into like his his last year he blossomed.
It was it was one year for Kyler Murray, It's
one year for Jalen Hurt. But you got to get
your college start somewhere. You gotta get the fundamentals. And
then Lincoln comes in and cleans them up. Well we'll
(22:33):
call him the cleaner then, so he's all Harvey Guitell.
Just because you are a character doesn't mean you have
character twitter at how about a fresca? Mike and Swollen
Dumb will continue to break down and make predictions and
tell you where all the head coaching candidates are gonna
wind up coming up throughout the show. We got the Giants,
we got the Browns, we got Jason Cole coming your
(22:54):
way to in a couple of minutes. With all the
big news in the NFL, we start looking at the
games this weekend and be all but first. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harman weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific,
joining us now on the hotline for all the big
NFL news you need, desire, want, and crave. He is
(23:15):
a longtime NFL insider, the owner and proprietor of fansided
dot Com. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody, and he is also a
Pro Football Hall of Fame voter. We say it every
single time for him. Fifty one weeks out of the year,
no one cares, But this week everybody cares. It's Jason Cole.
What's happening in j Cole? Well, I could be in Detroit,
(23:39):
I guess. Yeah, boom, you know there's worse places to
be than Detroit. Yeah, then would be worse, worse in
America than Detroit, except for possibly Jacksonville. Wow to a
(24:00):
sais you can never go to again. You did not
have Tony Bassell. You did not vote for Tony BASSELLI
did you. I gotta call him and tell him that.
And so it begins. Happy to your buddy, good day.
(24:20):
Oh that happy the entire every chance I get when
we get to the when we get all right, So
tell me this. I know you you never tell us
who you who you're voting for, But who do you
think gets in? Paula Maller The Three Offensive Lineman and
then it's one out of eleven guys. Well, you were
(24:41):
ready for that ant he was ready. That's just it.
I looked at it and like, to me, and I'm
a big Zack Thomas fan, right so and so I'll
speak up for him, and I'm gonna speak up for
a few other guys. But honestly to me that you know,
Paula Mallo was clearly ahead um of the of the
(25:02):
group in terms of impact on the game. Uh and
those three offensive and we've been arguing about those three
offensive line but we've been saying to each other, all
of all those guys that are going And what we
had was we had this you know, log jam, especially
when Maai was still with that group, that we couldn't
figure it out for a couple of years and we
finally got my way through. And I think now when
(25:25):
you just look at the whole group, it's like, you know,
sometimes we get this stuck on this idea of you know,
really only one guy from a position group can get
in at a time. But I'm looking at the whole
ballot and I think that the three offensive one and Fannica,
Hutchinson and Bisselli are the best guys, and I get
it where you know, guys who score touchdowns and catch
(25:47):
passes and throw passes matter a lot in this league.
But sometimes you just have to say those are the best,
Those are the best guys in a ballot, and you
should vote to the best guys in a ballot and
stop worrying about everything else. You should do that all
the time time. But it gets more complicated than that,
because there's usually not the kind of separation that I
see this year. And I agree with you, former jet
(26:07):
Alan Fantica should be a Hall of Famer. You're counting
him as a jet. He's taking by Ken Griffy Junior
argument for the Chicago White Sox. Yeah right, Yeah, that's
that's good. That's like Harold Ban's belonging in the Hall
of Fame period. As I sit here wearing my proud
(26:28):
National Baseball Hall of Fame Harold Bayne's hat tonight on
this glorious Friday, Well if you, if you, if you're
the one person who bought that, you should wear it off.
You might not survive. Here you go, I bought a
(26:49):
sleeve of him. Everybody was going to get one for
the card you leave Belton Bill Melton alone. Do you
have a bunch of those old time ones? Actually the
apparrechia Is might have Nelly Nelly Fox cards to what
do you got? What you got in there? I know
you you you went in and got all the Ed
Seccati cards you know that were thrown away by people
(27:10):
after they found out that he cheated. While you're going
after Ed scot while we're at aitude. Oh my god,
he's nothing sacred. Jason Cole just read it eight Men
out for the first time. It's a thirty year old movie. Yes, exactly,
for the first He got kid kid in there too. Hey,
Jason Cole, Jason shoes, Okay, nobody cares about your batting
(27:35):
average buck. He's got Joe Jackson shoes he's been wearing
for years now, cover one eye before I come into
the studio every time. I wear them every day. They're
a little small for me, but I do wear them
every day. All right, let's uh, let's get to the
mead coaches here for a second. I'm gonna give you
my big predictions. You tell me right or wrong? You ready? Okay? Okay? Cowboys,
(27:58):
Lincoln Riley, Giants, McCarthy, No and no, um not easy, Okay,
Mike Exembler to the Cowboys after the Vikings lose this weekend,
and uh, Giants, who who I'm maybe I'll maybe give
(28:22):
you McCarthy there. But I think McCarthy ends up in
Cleveland because somebody finally just talks some sense into those guys.
But I think McDaniels, if McDaniels is going to go anywhere,
he would go to the Giants because you can trust
ownership there well. And and and I don't like everybody
talks about McDaniel's going he's not gonna do anything like Cleveland's.
(28:45):
And Cleveland's gonna find out Harbor, you know, Harbon urban
Meyer that doesn't work and all you know, and this
whole idea of hiring your GM afterwards. I know that's
intended to appeal to McDaniels, but you're not going for that.
I mean, he learned. Look, he's learned from Bill Belichick.
And the one thing that Bill Belichick taught him is
(29:07):
don't work for idiots. Um And because he learned from
art model and there's a reason, you know, there's a
reason he ended up in New England. I'll just put
it that way. He knew to trust the owner, And
I think McDaniels understands, go to a place where you
can trust the owner. Well, it's a question in the
whole process. Then as you go in to meet Haslam,
(29:28):
I mean, what do you expect given the volunt very
nice guy and his wife who participates. She was a
nice person too. They're nice people. They change their mind
too often. It's not it's it's not about the quality
of people that they are, it's that they don't stick
to something. And yeah, past behavior is the greatest indication
(29:51):
of behavior. I mean we've all heard that one a
billion times, probably especially on this show. Um, but well
it's tough to stick laugh for for snutier marks like that.
I'm expecting better anyways. So I just think that you
have to go in there. You say, unless you're gonna
(30:13):
overpay me by so much money, like you're gonna write me,
you're gonna guarantee me ten million dollars a year for
six years with no offset language or any of that
kind of stuff. Well, you're just like you're gonna write
the biggert checks so that I have that kind of power,
Like I'm making so much money that you can't afford
to fire me in the first four years. I think
(30:34):
that that's the only way that you go to Cleveland.
If you're a quality candidate, you have to you have
to have so much security built in that they can't
change their minds. All right, Lastly, j Cole, with the
games coming up this weekend, all the spotlight is on
the Patriots, potentially Tom Brady's last game with New England,
(30:55):
all the all the spotlighters on that game, in part
because yeah, there is some interest, right, Like you're picking
up you know, tennse. He's got a good chance to
win the game. Brady, last game, what's gonna happen for you?
I get all that, right, But is there it almost
because the other three games? Has anybody asked anything about
the other three games? Like is there a game that
is more boring than Buffalo against Houston? Like I mean seriously,
(31:20):
Like if you designed the playoffs at the beginning of
the year and you said, this is really tense and awesome,
we could have Houston and Buffalo and you just go, yeah,
Saturday afternoons, just screams Saturday afternoon, first week of week
(31:41):
kind of playoffs, Like let's just trying to hide this game.
Is there another ball game that somebody will show. I mean,
it is the question of whether J. J. Watts able
to finish because it could end terribly Like, yeah, that's
the debate back See, here's the question. Who's more Who's
gonna play more games? Is the rest of their career?
(32:01):
Tom Brady or J. J. Watt. I'll take Tom Brady.
That's a hot take. And but what's no. But if
you're an oddsmaker, which one do you get? Which one
you bet on to play more games? Between J. J.
Watt and Tom Brady, I'm gonna off my bay. Yeah,
I mean that's As for Tommy boy, um, like I
(32:23):
know this, there's all sorts of talk about where he's
gonna end up and that wants to be in Los
Angeles or Miami or you know here or there. I
hear all that. I just get a feeling. At the
end of the day, Robert Kraft is going to come
in and say, Tom do you really want to go
out playing in another uniform for some some other guys,
(32:48):
like you know, do you want to go out like
Johnny Unitis or or Joe Montana or you know, I
know you've got problems with Josh and I know you've
got problems with with Bill. But we can just worked
this out, can't we. And I just I think the
discretion will become a better part of Allen and Brady
will finish his career anning. I just keep coming back
(33:10):
to that. It's just a bad look for him if
he went, especially if he went to like Miami just
because they threw a ton of cash at him or
something like that. I just would be so weird. That's
all on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two. That's at
Jason Cole sixty two, editor in chief at Fansided dot com.
And don't forget rookie cards. I can find he is
(33:33):
a Pro Football Hall of Fame voter. J Cole is
always my friend, appreciated all the way. I love you.
Tony can can't go back on that now. Nope, you
insulted Jacksonville. You insulted Tony Basselli. There he goes. He
never can go. He's gonna stand up for Tony Basselly
in that room, and then Tony Biselli is gonna knock
(33:53):
him out Twitter at how about a fresca Mike and
Swollen don't speaking of the games this weekend? How about
we get you said, as he start picking the winners
this weekend, wild Card weekend in the NFL. We got
some shockers coming your way next right here, Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
(34:13):
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
Radio whipp Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with
My best friend Mike Harmon Live from the Geico Studios
Pelicans and the Lakers. Yeah way in Los Angeles eight
eight early going brandon Ingram. A lot of cheers from
the Laker fans welcoming him back. Not so many for
(34:36):
a Lonzo Ball though. LaVar Ball is sitting courtside for
this game. Yeah, is how long till he actually goes? All? Right?
If I had to bet you yes or no he
actually gets on the court tonight for something, would you
say yes that will happen or no, that won't happen.
It will he steps on the court for something? Yeah,
some nonsensical thing. We at least get some image of
(34:57):
him approaching or barking at Lebron j or something. You've
traded my boy, my boy throwing zero twos and everybody
put these on. Put these on, Like Cedric Diggory's dad,
that's one boy, you've trained, hire boy. We things turn
(35:18):
out a little bit better for a Lonzo Ball than
Cedric Diggory a little bit. Yeah. I mean if but
if he had got to the port key, like Harry
kept saying, Cedric, go to the port key. But no, no, no, no,
I would have see what's going on? I mean a graveyard, dude,
get to the port key. No, no, what's going on?
You know what? You're dead. You're going to Twilight. Curiously
killed the cat. That's what happens. We'll have more on
(35:38):
this game coming up in a few minutes, because it's
time to to take a look back and see just
what this deal has meant. That's brought Anthony Davis to
the Lakers, and you saw Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball
in Hart now part of the Pelican squad that is
well just under achieving in the Western Conference, but still
one of those rare trades that's worked for both teams.
But let's take a look now and preview some of
(35:59):
the games this weekend. Wild Card weekend in the National
Football League. We spent a lot of time this hour
talking about the Patriots and Tom Brady. So let's preview
the NFC games. I may be crazy, Tommy crazy, but
I'm gonna take Minnesota over New Orleans. I like it.
(36:22):
Am I falling for Kirk Cousins again, Not really, because
now Dalvin Cook is back, Adam feelings back. As long
as Cousins doesn't throw four picks, Minnesota will pull the upset.
Their defense will hold New Orleans down just enough. Minnesota
is primed for an offensive explosion. This is the best
version of their team we're gonna get. They're healthy now,
(36:44):
they win this game over under. Sitting at forty nine
and a half. Eight is your point spread? New Orleans? Uh?
I think this is where we actually see Alvin Kamaraon
take on a bigger workload and kind of a quiet
season for him as his Chastner's well no, right, no,
this is one where he's got to be bigger, a
lot more Jared Cook to go along with Michael Town.
(37:05):
How do you slow him down? That's the one thing
Minnesota in that secondary. Uh, They're not gonna be able
to do. I'm taking New Orleans. Minnesota keeps it close
with Dalvin Cook running the football, but New Orleans succeeds
and proceeds. I may be fully crazy Part two, but
I'm gonna take Philadelphia over Seattle. I know my Seahawks.
(37:25):
Seahawks lost all their running backs. They're gonna struggle on
offense because they can't run the football well enough. Seattle
is in a rocky spot the last couple of weeks,
and Philadelphia is playing so well, their best football of
the season. They've won four in a row. Carson Wentz
has a lot to prove in his first playoff game.
It doesn't matter Zach hurts the weapons if they play.
(37:46):
If they don't play, this will be a Carson Wentz game.
They win. He throws for three touchdowns. Russell Wilson all
by himself not enough. These are one team peeking and
another one still trying to figure it out. I picked
them before the season to get to the NFC titled game.
I can't back away from him now. I have no
idea how it plays out. Miles Sanders, I think people
(38:08):
will gain an appreciation for how good a rookie year
he had. But you're right, it's all on the arm
of Carson Wentz because he can shut up a lot
of doubters and flip some double middle birds if they
win this one. So there are picks for the NFC.
Got the FC coming your way next hour. I can
see the hate on Twitter coming already. More on the NBA,
More on Tom Brady next on Fox. Be sure to
(38:28):
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Greetings,
an Happy Friday, Happy Hour or two of the show,
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
from the mobile Geico Studios. Mike and Los Angeles. I'm
in Detroit. Yes, you are getting to what you know.
It's very strange. And I'll tell you this really fast
(38:50):
because this is something that it's a phenomenon I never
knew until I moved to Los Angeles and now living
there for so long. I come back to the East Coast,
you know, a couple of times a year sometimes, you know,
I come back usually once we go to Detroit, me
once we go to New York. Not necessarily the East Coast,
but that's Eastern time East Coast time zone is what
(39:11):
I want. I meant to say, East Coast time zone.
I come back east and Hey, hey, look, Los Angeles
Detroit may as well be on on on the eastern seaboard.
So the things I have to find myself getting used
to that I really miss is the fact that, boy,
you know, at ten thirty at night, I can get
a great NBA game that I can just spend time
(39:34):
until one thirty in the morning watching, Whereas in l A, look,
everything's done earlier. You know, all the games are done
by ten thirty people. At the end of the night,
everything is over West Coast, We're done. You know, the
live sporting events are done at like ten o'clock, and
it's okay. Everything is there. There's nothing else going, nothing late,
And it's always something that I enjoy getting used to
(39:55):
again when I go. Good, we got Pelicans and the
Lakers at at ten thirty and all during the show tonight,
I can you know, watch that and and and have
something that's still going at you know, one o'clock in
the morning. I just I missed that, uh so much.
I mean, I don't miss it so much for the
NFL because I like waking up and having an NFL
game right at ten o'clock in the morning, you know,
the waiting around until one o'clock for an NFL game
(40:17):
is really difficult, Like, I gotta have a game, come on,
I can't do anything the games at one so that
I don't miss But this I missed the late night
that the ten thirty games that start sometimes ten forty
five or eleven, depending on what the game does before ending.
I missed that. Well, let's face it, you're on the
East coast. Bars are open to three forty five and
a lot of locales. So the one o'clock gave me
(40:40):
you're done because you're sleeping in and then you wake
up in the one o'clock games start and that's it.
Sunday is gone because by time the Sunday night game ends,
that's it. It's time to go to bed so you
can get rally for work on Monday. So I mean
that's it, at least with here on the on the
West coast. Maybe it's a team you're not particularly caring
about if you're mentioning the East Coast. Uh, maybe it's
(41:03):
the Jets and you can kind of half pay attention
because they're not good. No, they're not. It's snow. I mean,
I know you've got Sam, Sam, Sam and everything picked
me right up there pal. Well, but it is you
can go have a mimosa, you can have brunch, can
have well, you know, I don't think you can you
(41:25):
really have half of the Yeah, you're in Detroit on
a holiday. I don't think you can't. No, no, no,
I've had I've had days were all live drank or
mimosas It's four o'clock in the afternoon and I'm like,
what what are you having mimosa? It's four Oh. No,
I've had days where I've done that plenty of times.
It just kind of extends the whole day because it
still feels like it's like ten o'clock in the morning
(41:46):
when it's like eight o'clock at night. Well, it's like
you're in Vegas. You don't have no concept of time.
Did your ankle bracelet go off? As far as you know,
it didn't. And you know, he's been in Detroit. We
we have no idea what kind of shenanigans he's been
up to. Maybe he's got to go back there to
serve some uh community service. Every December, that's them service.
(42:09):
You have to come and serve the community over the holidays,
and you have to mention white Castle every eight minutes.
But speaking of late sporting events, we're need to get
into this right now. By all. By the way, the
Knicks lead the Sons by one late in the fourth
Juggernauts going in at night. Look how good the Knicks are.
(42:32):
Lakers lead the Pelicans twenty six to fourteen, the second game,
pinning Anthony Davis against his old team that they played
earlier this year in New Orleans, and Anthony Davis went
for eighty. Right now, Lakers lead the Pelicans twenty six
to fourteen. And it's not so much just hey, here's
Anthony Davis against the Pelicans. But this is Lonzo Ball,
Brandon Ingram, and Josh Hart's first game back in l
(42:54):
A since the trade. They were given different amounts of
warm receptions before the game. Their pictures were and and
and video was shown for them on the board as
they were introduced. And I gotta be honest, this is
one of those trades that even though the Lakers had
the Pelicans, because Anthony Davis wanted to go to the Lakers,
(43:15):
this has worked out for both teams. Obviously, you've seen
what Anthony Davis has meant playing with Lebron James. The
Lakers are seven and seven with the best record in
the West. But even though the Pelicans stink, they've gotten
more than expected out of brandon Ingram and a Lonzo
Balls so far. I mean, brandon Ingram's now scoring twenty
five a game. He was eighteen and seven guy with
(43:37):
the Lakers, which you know, there's so many guys who
can do that. He has really blossom. A Lonzo Ball
is starting to play extremely well. He's now a solid
ten five and five guy. And this is not the
Lakers giving up on Alonzo and brandon Ingram, because there's
trades that are made where well, look, you gave up
on a guy and here he bloss me played so
well after you traded him. There's no way Alonzo a
(44:00):
Ball in brandon Ingram are playing like this if they're
still in l a They're not. They're they're not the
right fit in a Lebron James led offense because he
needs specific players that do specific things, and a Lonzo
Ball and brand Ingram are not those guys. Was lot
was gonna work for the Lakers with a Lonzo playing
point guard again and Lebron James trying to play off that, No,
(44:20):
that wasn't working. What the Lakers are doing now is working,
and now the Pelicans have two players who they've gotten saying,
hey boy, we're really getting contributions from them. And you see,
restarts and and rebirths of NBA careers come for many
different reasons, And for Alonzo and Brandon Ingram, it's it's
pretty simple. It's being the right fit. But the right
(44:42):
fit can be a couple of different things. Ingram's are
right fit in this offense because he's one of the
go to guys for points. But for Alonzo, it's a
wake up call. You know how many times did you
have to see during the season the Pelicans saying, hey,
he's working on his three all the time, he's changing
his shot again, He's working. He's working, He's working. Is
he working this hard? Is he still you know, being
this type of player who's focused on the game. If
(45:04):
he's in l a and you're getting headlines from LaVar
Ball every five minutes, no he's not. So this was
the wake up call. Hey, now you had everything, and
now the Lakers shipped you out. They were tired of you,
they were tired of your dad. Hey, I gotta focus
if I want to be a really good NBA player
and a Lonzo ball is doing that. This is a
good fit for him, it's a good fit for Brandon Ingraman.
It's worked out for both teams. Alonso is not good
(45:26):
uh ten ten, five and five twenty eight minutes a night,
uh most of the time in a in a backup role.
And with ingram the question is going to become, all right,
once Zion's cleared, what what's his role? Does he get
to still be the guy? Because right now it's it's
the Kevin Love question of all those years in Minnesota,
and it can you put up really good numbers on
(45:47):
a bad team? Yeah, but with with the way this
team is gonna go run up and down the floor,
there's plenty of room for both of them. I mean, now, look, obviously,
Zion Williamson is a big deally dunked it practice today
doing alley oops in all nine yards and none of
them counting. You know, I mean, how much can you
count on Zion Williamson? I mean that's the big question. Now.
The guy hasn't played and a seemingly minor injury has
(46:08):
kept him out throughout the NBA season, and you wonder,
not is this guy Greg Oden. But is is he
just too big? Is he putting too much stress on
his body? Because that's the one thing we talked about forever.
The one question I have with Zion Williamson is is
he too heavy for the NBA? Is he too heavy
for the pounding? And he's at knee and different type
of joint injuries the last three years in basketball, So
(46:31):
what does that tell you? You're too big? You're two
heavy to nine. You can't run up and down the
floor like that. You're the heaviest guy in the NBA
and you're nineteen years old, which means you're only gonna
get bigger, which means you have to figure something else out.
So right now, it's you're just hoping and cross from
your fingers at Williamson can get on the floor at
some point and be somebody who can contribute to the team.
I mean, is he suddenly gonna come on and play
(46:53):
forty minutes a night. Now, it's not happening. You're gonna
see him play low amounts some minutes he's gonna it's
it's gonna be something where let's really get him and
see what kind of player he has. So I don't
see brand Ingram having a lot of trouble here because
Zion's gonna have his own difficulty just trying to get
on and be a day in and day out NBA player. Yeah,
it's just in the short term. It's it's bum slayer numbers, right,
it's the Dak Prescott numbers of of the NBA uh
(47:15):
as as we're looking at Ingram right now. And yes,
some of the percentages are up, some of the metrics
are are moderately better than they were as the Lakers.
But he's gonna be allowed to grow, right, He's not
gonna be thwarted in that, so you at least have
that opportunity you'll be able to maximize and see what
he is for the trade long haul, I'll take I think,
(47:36):
at least on paper what what the Pelicans did get
right in terms of number one picks and everything else.
But for the Lakers, it was the how do we
maximize what the Lebron James era is and potentially give
ourselves that next superstar injury history and everything and and
some of the theatrics to say it nicely, of getting
(47:57):
himself and massaging his way out of New Orleans as
you did with Anthony Davis. But you get a title.
All you need is one, and it justifies the whole
thing that's Anthony Davis is clearly by far and away.
You put all the players. You had to get what
you could get if you're the Pelicans, because Anthony Davis
was only gonna go to the Lakers. And in the
(48:17):
end you got a player who can be a lynch
pin for you for years in Ingram, and maybe a
Lonzo Ball can turn out to be someone who was
a big rotation guy, you know, coming off the bench
playing twenty eight minutes. But hey, ten five and five
off the bench. You know, lots of guys would like that.
But that look, you had to get what you get,
and at least you didn't get Alonzo Ball that's suddenly
(48:38):
not on the floor and he's scoring six points a night,
three assists, and he's disengaged. You're getting the best you
can get. So hey, that's why that was a victory
for the Pelican. Well, he's still gonna play some Even
the number one picks are really where it comes down
due though, right that the players are all fine, heart
uh and Ingram and Ball and Ingram's giving you some
nice numbers and He's fun to watch for the ends, right,
(49:00):
because they at least have a guy that's going up
and down and gives them some highlight, real stuff. But
to get that number, that number of number one picks
for on a trade where there was no leverage at
all for New Orleans they had to get rid of him.
I mean, that's that's a really good haul. Almost as
if the NBA came in and said, hey, you really
(49:21):
got to give up something special because of the way
this is played out. You know, not to go all
conspiracy theorists or anything, but but the reality is, it
makes no sense when that's the only place they were
going to do business that they were still able to
get what three first round picks for him was three players.
It's kind of ridiculous. Yeah, I mean with you're you're
negotiating with one hand tied behind your back, and you
(49:43):
did pretty well, you know. Now, And the Lakers side
of it is is that here's the only the the
only dark side I see for the Lakers coming off
of what they've been able to accomplish so far. Certainly
in the regular season, look there twenty seven and seven,
they had that small little losing streak. That's gonna happen
over the course of the season the way the Lakers
are playing now, and this leads into how to solve
(50:05):
this issue. Are they regular season great? Are they a
team that in the regular season because it's Lebron, it's
a D it's one game out of a D two,
it's gonna be really hard to stop them. But when
you get to the playoffs, if this is the same
Laker team personnel wise we see in the playoffs that
we're seeing now, they could lose in the Western Conference
semis when you're playing a team that's gonna clamp down
(50:27):
defensively night and the night out in a seven game
series and the Lakers have no other place to go
with the ball because it's either Lebron or it's Anthony Davison. Boy,
that supporting cast is terrible. That's the one fear. Are
they a regular season champion type roster? Which is when
it gets to the trading deadline, I fully expect there
to be a lot of turnover, and you're seeing at
(50:49):
least three new faces that are playing big minutes for
the Lakers, at least a couple of them who are shooters,
because you need somebody else and you know Kyle Kuzuma
is still working his way back into where he fit
now in the new team with with Lebron and a
d be in the top two options. I mean, that's
something that's gotten out. Doesn't mean they can't solve it,
because easily the trading deadline, they can solve it and
go get a J. J. Reddick or somebody else or
(51:11):
whoever they want to go pick up and someone that
can come off the bench and give them some offense,
because that's what they're missing right now. But right now
they look like a team that boy regular season, hey,
they can rip through everybody, but you get a second
round series and a team that can play some defense,
and and I think the Lakers could be in trouble.
That's the idea of finding another shooter. We we all
know that there's a jersey with Igodala's name on it
(51:32):
for once the buyouts completed there, so we have some
of those activities that will go through in this NBA
calendar as well. So I don't think this roster's anywhere
close to finished. When when we get to mid April,
I think you'll see three or four other bodies. And
let's not forget the Kyle Kuzma trainer thing, Lebron James
can try to shrug that off all he wants go
(51:53):
back and watch that with you know, this is one
where you get the Mority POVID show or one of
those where they have the body language at that was
a guy that was not done with that topic and
they made Kyle Ko's gonna shave his head right, So
now he looks like in a racer eminem or whatever
the hell you want to say, he looks like Carman.
Don't don't be don't be down on people with shaved heads.
(52:16):
He had a nice head of hair, now he doesn't.
That doesn't normally happen overnight unless that's part of your
penance that you're paying because of your trainer. Twitter and
how about a Fresco Mike get swollen Um. Yeah, that's
that's the only thing. Are the Lakers right now a
regular season champion type team, and certainly they're playing well tonight.
(52:37):
They lead the Pelicans forty two thirty and of the
first quarter the Lakers put up forty two, Anthony Davis
with twelve, but leading the way is Danny Green five
out of six from three point range. He's got seventeen.
Is the Lakers up by twelve after the first quarter.
We'll keep you updated on this game. I have more
on Lebron and the Big trade a Pelicans and the Lakers,
(52:57):
the Marquee game going on right now, but coming up
next on the eve of the NFL playoffs, Mike and
I will give you our Super Bowl picks revisited. Who
is gonna make it out of the a f C
and the NFC. No, no, no, this is because the
teams we picked right now, all my teams are currently
not alive. So where are Super Bowl repicks? That's coming
(53:20):
up next to even right here Fox Sports Radio. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
It is Fox Sports Radio, Happy Friday, The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harman live from the
(53:41):
Geico Studios to go. In the second quarter, Lakers lead
the Pelicans forty thirty nine. Anthony Davis has twelve Lebron
eight assists, Danny Green seventeen points as the Lakers welcome
back Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram Josh Hart for the first
time the Staples Center since the big trade that brought
(54:03):
Anthony Davis to l A. Did you see the video tribute?
And yes, there was a video tribute that the Lakers
played before the game for all three of those players. Like,
these guys were fifteen year VETSU brought championship after championship
and we gotta welcome them back. And were they afraid
LaVar ball was going to cause an incident if they
didn't do one. Yeah, let's celebrate the hell out of
(54:25):
a seventeen win season. Ladies and gentlemen. Here are are
failed former number two overall picks first from U C.
L A. They just they start showing like Lonzo Ball,
just bricking up threes and missing things. Hey, here's what
we've missed. Now. Had the Lakers introduced the players and
played a video clip and then said, hey, and let's
(54:46):
welcome back the players who we traded away to get
Anthony Davis and then show, then I would have got it.
Then I would understood, Hey, wait a minute, Hey, al right, well,
remember these guys got us Anthony Davis, all right, Then
I would understand. I would completely understand. Then all of
these players sent away as well as future considerations. Ladies
and gentleman, add forward from and that's where you dropped
(55:10):
the lights and introduced him again. I don't know that
small forward, a guy the Pelicans said we have to
have him if we're gonna give you Anthony Davis. Brandon
had a video of the last time they played of
Anthony Davis Duncan on all of them, and ladies and gentlemen,
here is the bucket of balls that we also sent
to New Orleans at point Guard, a guy the Lakers
(55:31):
couldn't get out of town fast enough because they hated
him and his dad, a Lonzo ball. What's here in
for Alonzo's dad? Who's court side tonight? Lustily booed LaVar
is courtside? He is courtside for this game. He probably
stole the ticket. Whoa, whoa, no, no no. I was
(55:51):
his associates that we're stealing everything. Remember, hey, look, but
I got these great pair of sneakers. I can't unload
on eBay for any that they actually produced him. He'd
be able to sell them Lakers, but how much you
want to bet? Rob Polinka was the one in charge
of putting up the video tribute. How much you want
to bet it was his idea. I guarantee of it
was his. That's such a rob Polinka thing to do.
(56:13):
You know how I know it wasn't him. How do
you know Magic Johnson was in it? This is true
that we're a couple of shots of magic. Magic who's
not there. He's on a boat again. Oh so that's
where we sit right now. Lakers Pelicans, Lakers up by ten.
The video tribute to the players who brought Anthony Davis
to the Lakes. Welcome back to these breaker legends. They'll
(56:37):
have statues next to chick her and outside staples. It
will be a six headed statue the three players in
the three draft picks. It'll be just Adam Silver's head
three times because those are the number one picks. He's
in the middle handshakes with all of them. Pros do
it right to say five percent more every day by
(56:59):
shopping at Lows in store or online. Say five percent
on eligible purchases just by using your Low's business credit account.
Do it right for less start with Lows subject to
credit approval. Cannot be combined with other credit offers. Exclusions
apply see store for details. US only. So with the
NFL playoffs set to start tomorrow. We're gonna pick the
other two games. I told you I was surely crazy
(57:20):
in the NFC. I'm picking upsets in both games. I'm
picking the Vikings and I'm picking the Eagles. It's now time. Well,
I have to do it. Harmon, you don't have to
do all of it, but I have to revisit and
give new Super Bowl picks. My super Bowl picks are
still alive. Yeah, your pricks are still alive. You don't
have to do it as much. I I need to
do it because all of my teams have been eliminated.
(57:40):
My guys need a lot of help. But there's but
the end. Dick is still alive. My Steelers Cowboys did
not work out. That didn't work out, but you know, look, hey,
the Steelers won eight game. You know, Roethlisberger got hurt,
and you know, like they would have won more. The
Cowboys almost got in. But my new Super Bowl pick
(58:01):
because I have to go with teams that are involved
with it now. Cleveland is not making it to the
Super Bowl. I am going to say, we see an
upset Kansas City. When's the a f C Championship on
the road. They beat Baltimore, they pull off the upset.
They are peaking, they are playing extremely well. Kansas City
(58:26):
was there last year, they felt just short. Baltimore hasn't
been pressure is gonna get to Baltimore enough for Kansas
City to win. This is gonna be Patrick Mahomes's moment,
and in a matchup of the two best quarterbacks new
quarterbacks in the league the last couple of years, it's
gonna be Mahomes over Lamar Jackson and Kansas City goes
to the Super Bowl. Oh, I like, I like the Bravada.
(58:46):
Look you got a defense is playing better and they
did a good job to load management, load manage Lashawn
McCoy for the second half of the year. His touch
has have been held down, not an injury thing from
all reports that he will be and ready for the
full full load as necessary. And look, you've you've gotten
reps for other guys, Damian Williams, subspencer wear time and again,
(59:10):
and the defense playing so much better for them right now.
Some good reps in the receiving corps as well. So
looking for a little bit of a game breaker when
you've got Nicole Hardman out there working opposite Tyreek Hill.
I like it. It's it's it's ballsy when we go
against what is the presumptive I mean, prohibitive favorite, when
(59:31):
you go from the betting odds, the way that Baltimore's
offenses run through the year, I mean, it's it's tough,
but I I honestly feel that this is Kansas City's
time and they're gonna be the ones that go and
get and get this win because they've been through it
so recently and they know how their defense is playing
extremely well. And that's really what I'm kind of, you know,
(59:52):
banking on, is that they keep this defensive excellence through
the rest, through the rest of the playoffs, and they
do enough people to slow Lamar Jackson down. Look, they're
not going to stop him. But Kansas City, you keep
scoring bunches of points, you put a lot of pressure on,
you get a turnover. Suddenly it's really tough playing catch up.
So that's why I'm going Cincinnati. That's why I'm going
(01:00:12):
with Kansas That's worse than Cleveland, man, come on, come on.
Although he did celebrate Sam White yesterday, remembering his greatness
of mocking Cleveland as he went, look, I picked New
England before the year. Part of it was despite you
and make you all mad and blew in the face,
but just for the fact that you had a decent
(01:00:32):
running game. Sony Michelle still up and around nine hundred
yards for the season in a quote down year. As
we knew it was gonna be a split with him,
Burkehead and of course James White out of the backfield.
Defense has been great at times. Part of it was
bum slaying a good slate early, but at this point,
I gotta dance with who brung me. I picked him
(01:00:55):
before the year. I can't become a coward now she
no matter how hard the road becomes, right and Tennessee
will be an interesting test with Derrick Henry and the
running game and we'll we'll pick that and then just
a little bit, but you know, a difficult road in
all the rumor, conjecture, speculation, but I don't rule them out.
(01:01:15):
And you know, to be the man, you gotta beat
the man. And they're not dead yet. No, no, no,
your your teams are good. That's why I have to change,
because I lost mine and I can change NFC. It's
it's almost as if people are forgetting about them. But
they're the best team in the NFC. The road has
to go through them. They're going to the Super Bowl.
(01:01:36):
San Francisco is gonna defeat whoever comes in, and they're
going to Super Bowl to play the Chiefs. San Francisco
is the best team in the NFC. They're the best
all around team in the entire National Football League. Whoever
comes in, it's gonna be impossible for them to run
the football enough. They're not gonna throw the football, whether
it's Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Carson Wentz, whoever winds upcoming,
(01:01:58):
and it doesn't matter. They're the best team in the
NFC there at home. Their offense can win any kind
of game. Now, that's the one thing we talked about
this a big deal midseason when they were six and
oh seven O eight and no. Is that, Hey, Jimmy
Garoppolo has gotta start winning some games here because they
can't always rely on three running backs being run heavy.
But Garoppolo the past seven eight weeks may has been really,
(01:02:21):
really good, and now they can win any kind of
game in the playoffs. They can win a shootout, they
can win a ground control game. Their defense is the
best defense in in the NFC. And probably the second
best defense or maybe the best defense in all of football.
It's kind of a toss up you want to talk
about between them and the Patriots, But you know everybody's
looking for reasons to pick the Packers, or to pick
(01:02:42):
the Saints, or pick the forty are the best team
in football and they're at home. They're gonna beat whoever
Chiefs forty nine or Super Bowl. Yeah, the East at there,
I believe it's a calculated two chance to to to
win it. Uh to get there certainly a long road
(01:03:04):
as well. We've talked about the injuries at nauseam. You know,
you have a lot of downfield playmaking over the course
of the year. A lot of balls also dropped where
they could have been in a much better position just
for guys getting a nice tub of stick them before
the season started. Miles Sanders is becoming a really good
running back. Jordan Howard's healthy than perhaps you at least
(01:03:26):
get a little bit of that thunder lightning combination. We
haven't said that in a while. I thought i'd bring
that back from the NFL yesteryear. You know, the the
idea that you have the guy between the tackles, why
they brought Jordan Howard in, and Sanders has shown that
he's a pretty good receiver. Had that great connection with
Wentz a couple of weeks ago, so I'll stay with it.
(01:03:48):
Carson Wentz, I think people are starting to look at
his year a lot differently over these last couple of weeks. Sure,
a little bit of bum slang, a little bit of
luck helping him finish the job, and the Cowboys on
able to get out of their own way, but still
looking for Carson Wentz to make some plays and have
some fun. The forty nine is the one thing with
them is if you can run on them that it's
(01:04:10):
just does your team can you commit to it? Because
offensively now they're that much more explosive once you added
Emmanuel Sanders and whatever the hell they shot George Kittle
up to get him out there with that busted up
ankle that he had, still wondering what was going on
there when he's running downfield and screaming, Hey Jimmy, and
they're finding connection thirty yards downfield. Add Deebo, Samuel and
(01:04:30):
most who's been just a godsend to them the second
half of the year as well as he emerged in
the leader of the backfield. They're gonna be a really
tough out. But again, I backed myself into a corner
by actually picking too well and having two teams still alive. No,
that's great. Hey, you add your picks, you're still alive.
I had to redo my picks entire. It's good you
(01:04:50):
did take Cincinnati. There is audio evidence that you've got
the Bangles on your mind. Well you know, and hey,
I can. I'll never pay for a drink again in
Cincinnati right there, nor should. So there you go. Mike
still with his picks. I'm going Chiefs and the forty Niners.
Speaking of picks, will tell you where some of the
coaches are gonna end up that are now interviewing across
the NFL. Who's gonna fill the big openings. That's coming
(01:05:12):
up in ninety seconds. But first, be sure to catch
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, live from
the Getic Studios, The Jason Smith Who with Mike Carmen,
and we're spending time tonight talking a lot about look
where we're previewing all the big games, the big football weekend.
But in addition to all the games the head coaching
(01:05:35):
interviews that are being done, we're talking about the three
big teams, high profile teams that are looking for head coaches, Cowboys,
the Giants, and the Cleveland Browns. Last hour we talked
about the Cowboys and and you want to go back
look at the best of it goes up after the
show is over on iTunes, Google Play, Fox Sports Radio,
dot Com, I Heart Radio app. Uh you check it out.
(01:05:55):
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon. Lincoln Riley is gonna
wind up being the guy in US. We gave you
the reasons why. How about the New York Giants. They
will end up with Mike McCarthy as their head coach.
They interviewed him today and they're gonna interview like seven people,
which is just stupid. But whatever. Whenever you say we
have seven people, it's like, we have no idea what
we want, but we want to make it seem like
(01:06:17):
we're doing our due diligence, but really, we have no
idea what we want. Shere's gonna talk to everybody. Mike
McCarthy is gonna wind up being the guy, and it's
pretty simple. The Giants need a combination of player, of
of of a coach who can be a CEO but
also developed Daniel Jones. Right, there's gonna be no player.
(01:06:39):
There's gonna be no coaches around like the next great
offensive coordinator, young mind coming in that's going to set
the world on fire. There's no more Sean McVeigh. There's
no Kyle Shanahan. But you see some teams. You see
the Browns need a CEO as well as a guy
that can develop a quarterback, and that's the Giants need.
Dave Gettleman is a mess and the fact that Giants
brought him back it's ridiculous, but they did bring him back.
(01:07:00):
They need someone who's gonna be strong as far as
developing Daniel Jones. That's Mike McCarthy, developed Aaron Rodgers. They
need someone who's gonna be a strong CEO that can
run the programs and have to worry about a guy
like Pat Shermer not being able to keep control of
everything in front of him. Mike McCarthy's gonna wind up
being the guy in New York. I really was hoping
he'd become the grown up in Cleveland. So we can
(01:07:21):
actually see if they can maximize the the talent there.
But it makes the most sense. I know Matt Rule
has been connected with them a number of times through
the last couple of years. Remember, he did just get
a nice pay bump at Baylor, and he's in Mexico,
so you gotta go find him there as well. But
as as he tries to distance himself from all of
(01:07:42):
the rumor, conjectured speculation. But the fact that the Giants
are going out of their way to interview I mean
they're interviewing Dallas assistance. I mean, I guess you get
some information of how they view things. But have you
already kind of seen that. You've already watched it in
action twice in the regular season and all the tape
you watched over the course of the year. I don't
know how much more you're getting out of that. And
(01:08:03):
the defense wasn't exactly the eleven that you're expected. They
were not nearly as good against quality opponents. The offense sputter,
and they have their their wards for as we know.
But you're casting a wide net. I mean, that's why
the Jerry Jones approach is still as unconventional as it is,
at least on the surface. We're not getting rumors of
(01:08:25):
him talking to everybody right now, it's a short confined
let's figure out Jason Garrett and watch how the dominoes
start to fall here. And some of these guys you
can't talk to, and maybe you know one or more
of the assistant coaches they'd actually like to speak to.
UH is still working this weekend, So you've got that.
But McCarthy makes sense sitting out. I watched that thing
he did with Peter King. He's eager to get back in.
(01:08:48):
And if you you want a guy to curb some
of the bad tendencies from Daniel Jones, he's a guy.
He certainly did it in Green Bay. I mean, go
back to the early part of the transition far into
Aaron Rodgers because there was a little bit of gun
slinging going on there that had to be curbed twitter
At how about a fresca Mike and swelling them. So
(01:09:09):
there you go. We got Lincoln Riley to the Cowboys.
We got Mike McCarthy. The giants will tell him. I mean,
I'd love to find some other head coaching nominee out
there right not. Nick McDaniels makes sense too, but needs
control and gettleman. I don't think he's gonna let him
have any Say no, you can't trust that Josh McDaniels
(01:09:30):
is gonna be able to run the entire football program
because look, they gave him his chance before and look
what happened. He barfed it up. So now they're hoping that,
all right, he can get it. But is he gonna
be a glorified offensive coordinator? Sure? Is he gonna run
a whole program? We can't trust him with that. It's
like they need they need a CEO in addition to
a great offensive mind, and Josh McDaniels is not a CEO.
(01:09:51):
Twitter at about a Fresca Mike and Swelling done The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. But
speaking of Josh McDaniel's team, we got the pay it's
coming up in action tomorrow. Coming up next, we will
pick all the games this coming weekend in the National
Football League. Will tell you who's gonna win. We got
some shockers coming your way. That's next right here on Fox.
(01:10:14):
First off, Happy Thanksgiving everybody. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the I Heart Radio app Fox Sports Radio.
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the Geiko Studios, the mobile Geiko Studios because
(01:10:36):
I'm in Detroit, Mike in Los Angeles. Big NFL weekend
coming your way. Last hour on the show, we picked
the NFC playoff games. I'm surely crazy because I picked
two websites. I picked Minnesota and I picked Philadelphia. You're
just doubling down on Kirk Cousins, right, because before you
went away to Detroit. I mean you called for the
(01:10:59):
game of all games from Kirk Cousins. He did not deliver.
He and Aaron Rodgers for fantasy owners, absolute zeros, just
duds across the board. You know, now it's a redemptive
mode for you. Well, no, because now they're fully healthy
on offense, and Dalvin Cook is back and so is
Adam Feeling. They are primed for a big offensive game.
So I'm kind of believing in Kirk, but I'm believing
(01:11:21):
in everybody else. Really, it's really about everybody else dragging
Kirk Cousins across the finish line. I like that. I
like Harley. Oh if we could get a ragnar sighting.
I mean, can they do a tribute video to him?
Now he's actually rooting for the Jets. Yeah, what did
he go? And uh pit Robin Pillage And no, didn't
(01:11:46):
you see the video of Adam Gates on the back
of his motorcycle. You missed that Rex Ryan territory. Now
they were riding on Yo and assesspenus is property and
a wild board was chasing them. Yeah, you got that's believable.
That's a reality show. I would watch Ranching with Cesspitice.
(01:12:08):
So those are NFC picks, last hour in the show.
How about the a f C games this weekend. Let's
kick things off right now. Buffalo and Houston. In the
words of nothing says a Saturday playoff game more than
Buffalo against Houston. Jacked up about it? Uh, I'm gonna
take the bills. I have seen Houston throw up on
(01:12:28):
themselves in this situation many times, my Texans, I know,
but this is another one because Buffalo, they have a
pretty easy formula. Their defense keeps it close. Josh Allen
finds a way to make enough plays. They get a
couple of explosive plays in the running game or the
or the short passing game and they win. They are
good enough to do that here against Houston in a
(01:12:51):
seventeen fourteen type game where either it's a field goal
late or they hold on to a field goal lead
and get to Shawn Watson to throw a pick. This
is their m O. They done it all. You have
done it against good teams, nearly upset the Patriots, and
a couple of tough games where boy Buffalo, really just
one play might have tipped this game, could have beat Baltimore.
I am going Buffalo. Eventually, they're gonna play a team
(01:13:11):
that's too good for them, but not this weekend. Buffalo
beats Houston sevent four time. I generally hate to agree
with you, but I'm all over the Bills. That might
be the uh only card carrying member of the Josh
Allen fan club among media members. I think there's still
a lot of potential for this. Gotta be an absolute
stud in the interim, makes a couple of big plays.
(01:13:32):
He'll make a maddening one now and again, but also
making plays with his legs. Cold Beasley scraping across the
middle has become invaluable. You got Dawson Knox making plays,
Singletary taking up a bigger role in the backfield, and
defensively they'll be good enough to slow down the running
game in Carlos hide uh and and take that away
and with will Fuller probably not gonna go. I mean
(01:13:55):
that that's the tail of their offense in a lot
of ways, because then you go into the box and
one on the Andrey Hopkins and you look at DeShawn
Watson becomes human, still good, good to great, but beatable,
and that's where Buffalo takes care of business. Tennessee, New England.
I would love to pick the Shocker. I would love
to do it, but I just can't see Bill Belichick
(01:14:17):
losing to Ryan Tannehill. For me, it just comes down
to that, even though Tennessee should be able to run
the ball and Tannehill should be able to make enough
plays in the passing game, because look, Tennessee scores points.
This is not a team that's winning on the strength
of you know, here's Derrick Henry rushing for you know,
si yards and that's it. No, They're they're scoring twenty
eight points a game. Obviously, it's gonna be much tougher
(01:14:38):
in New England's defense is much better. They should be
able to do enough things. But it's not like the
Patriots are terrible. And this is where the oversimplification of
the Patriots struggles comes back to hurt them. And why
why you see the Patriots with the image of boy,
this team can't do anything right after winning after being
a super Bowl team. No, they're just not as good
as they were in their dominan and ears. And obviously,
(01:15:01):
look they faltered last week. They're playing wild card weekend.
I haven't done that since two thousand and nine. This
is not a clearly great Patriots team. But still your
twelve and four is twelve and four. The Patriots are
still really good. They will have enough to win this game.
We can have our doom saying for the Patriots coming
up in the next couple of weeks, and they're gonna
have their day of reckoning, whether it's Baltimore, Can's whatever
(01:15:22):
it is, but it's not gonna happen this week. They
will have enough to beat Tennessee. It'll be closer than expected.
It won't be a great game offensive for Tom Brady.
They probably already have the plays, but they win, They
beat Tennessee, and they live to fight another day. Well,
the the Apprentice is not overtaking the master here just yet.
When we look at this one, I like Tannehill, like
(01:15:45):
what you've seen for the second half. A guy playing
with no pressure. Now he's got pressure because it's go
out and win a playoff game for Brady and the Patriots.
You still got a defense and only gave up four
teen points per game. Gettable at times, and yes you
worry about the run game taking over a little bit,
but all at all. As you said, I don't know
that many folks that have been burying them all season
(01:16:05):
long have bothered to really watch many games. I think
there's enough here and they get a victory and succeeding proceed. Well,
look at you and I on the same side of
these games. I'm a little shot three out of four
that diver happens. Twitter at how about a Fresco Mike
and swollen Dome. More big coaching news out of the NFL.
Coming up next, This is Fox Sports Radio. Be sure
(01:16:26):
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app
Fox Sports Radio. Welcome inside our three of the Jason
Smith show with my best friend Mike Harmon to three
(01:16:47):
and hey, don't forget our latest Special Teams podcast is
up and available I Heart Radio iTunes wherever you listen
to podcasts. We take a look back at the shared
National championship between Miami and the Washington Huskies. There's a
bunch of controversy. There's devastating injuries, a big chapter, and
a huge rivalry and controversy that happened following the final voting.
(01:17:10):
As listen, Shared National champions weren't popular for very very long.
So again you go to use the I Heart Radio
app iTunes basically wherever you listen to podcasts, we look
back special teams the shared national title between the Miami
Hurricanes and the Watchington Huskies. Yeah, and if you forgot
to give anybody a gift during this holiday holiday holiday season,
send it their way. They'll appreciate you. No. I like that.
(01:17:34):
I like give the gift of sports teams that dominate
individual years. I like that it just keeps giving. Right now,
you're smarter at the water cooler. Now instead of Uncle
Johnny's story for the four hundred times you get us
spouting up brilliance question for you guys, sure. When are
you guys doing the special teams of the Lonzo Ball,
brandon Ingram led Lakers. No, that's next week. Next we're
(01:17:56):
gonna do that. We're gonna we got an eight minute
podcast lined up for I'll make sure to hit the lead.
We're gonna make sure we include the minute celebration of
them tonight. Yeah. You know, look, before we get into
the NFL coaching situation. Right now, Lakers lead New Orleans
seventy seven early in the third quarter, scored seventy two
in the first half to take a big lead. And
(01:18:19):
before the game, this is the first game back in
Staples Center for brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and Josh Hart.
The Lakers played a video tribute to these players before
the game that Frostburg is so incredibly excited about He's
gonna make it his ring tone on his phone. It's
a nice touch. I mean, it really was. It was
it got it got them excited. Uh, frostburgs shaking his
(01:18:41):
head so much, he's gonna be in a neck brace
before the night's over. The players who allowed us to
get Anthony Davis stand up for Josh, I know how
they done that. It would have been great No, that's
just what they did was absolutely lame. There's a good shot.
Magic Johnson though, when he was in charge that no,
(01:19:06):
that no, you know what. That's the thing. That's why
justin now I got it. That's how I know. Rob
Polinka was in charge of it because Magic Johnson was
featured throughout the tribut because they were all his draft picks.
He wanted to remind all Lakers fans Magic picked all
these guys. We had to ship out to get Antony.
You actually think po Linka knows who Magic picked. The
only thing that would have been better is if they
had projected it onto one of the banners, uh, instead
(01:19:28):
of onto the jump motron, because that's where Alonso was
supposed to be. Right LaVar ball courtside for this game. Again,
it's a big Lakers lead right now, still early in
the third quarter, sixty seven. Lakers could score a hundred
and fifty tonight. Uh. So far, Anthony Davis has twenty three,
Lebron has eleven assists, and Danny Green has twenty. He
(01:19:50):
is five for six from three point range. We'll keep
you updated on this, of course, but it's a big
weekend in the NFL. Look tonight it's a big football
Friday night. We're pre young all the games, looking at
all the big NFL coaching headlines that are happening, and
part of what we're doing tonight is telling you where
the pieces are gonna fit. Last hour, we talked about
the New York Giants and that Mike McCarthy is the
(01:20:11):
guy for them and they're gonna wind up hiring him.
They interviewed him today, and the Giants need a combination
of a CEO, someone who can run the program and
also developed Daniel Jones. Mike McCarthy is the only one
who fits that bill. The other two big openings Dallas
Cowboys Cleveland Browns. Let's do the Dallas Cowboys first and
then talk about the Browns. This is pretty simple for
(01:20:34):
me for the Cowboys, because even though we got the
report last night from Edward Or that the Cowboys are
going to eventually part ways with Jason Garrett whenever they
decided it's done. The one big takeaway is that we
have heard all the big names but one mentioned for
the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job. We've heard all the
big names. Mike McCarthy is interviewing Matt Rules, potentially down
(01:20:57):
the road with the Giants and the Carolina Anthers, Urban
Meyer and the Browns may have mutual interest with each other.
All of these things are happening right now, and we've
heard every big name except for one. The Cowboys. If
they were worried they could lose their preferred candidate and
he was interviewing right now, well they would have fired
(01:21:20):
Jason Garrett and moved on because Jerry Jones is not
gonna lose his guy. So the fact that they haven't
yet tells me that the candidate Jerry Jones wants. Because look,
there's only gonna be one maybe two with the most
the candidate Jerry Jones wants, You're gonna hear a name,
and that's gonna be the guy. Not Just remember, Jason
Garrett doesn't have to be fired. He has no contract,
right you might think, you might think Jerry Jones is
(01:21:41):
gonna be wait till the fourteenth that we can say, well,
his contract lapse and we didn't technically have to fire him.
I don't want to do that because I don't want
to pay unemployment because you know, it's like three dollars
a week, and that's money we can use to give
to Zeke's dad to watch more the exotic animals. So
that's kind of what we have going on here. Don't
want to pay that sure, So when you when you
(01:22:02):
understand that the none of those names that we have
heard have made the Cowboys jump. The only name that
makes sense is Lincoln Riley, the guy we have not
heard anything about. Look, Mike Zimmer's name was mentioned today
that potentially the Cowboys could be looking at him. The
Vikings put out a statement saying, Mike Zimmers our guy.
We have every intention of keeping Mike Zimmer. He's gonna
(01:22:23):
be our head. He's still under contract for another year too, exactly,
so they have to to figure something else out. It
would be messy, Yeah, fire him, pile up money, uh
and and block that type of thing. I mean, there's
still a mess to it. It'd be curious to bring
in a defensive guy when the whole thing is built
for your offense, right, all the guys you're paying or
(01:22:43):
your offensive lineman Zeke, and assuming you franchise tag Dak Prescott,
that you've got so much money committed there that you'd
go away from it and still have to be running
with the first year now second year coordinator and Kellen Moore.
That's curious to me. Yeah, this, this is this is
why would you bring in a defensive minded coach when
you need somebody to get the most out of Dak Prescott.
(01:23:04):
That's really what you need. So when all of these
names are out there, Lincoln Riley is the only name
that we haven't heard interviewing with anybody, anybody. It's absolutely
it's nothing. It's nothing for Lincoln Riley. The only thing
we got at Oklahoma two days ago, a headline that
maybe went by the wayside, is their number one quarterback
recruiting one d committed not going to Oklahoma. Sports Illustrated's
(01:23:30):
got a story that says that that he told the school, Hey,
if Lincoln Riley is not gonna be here, I'm not
gonna come and here. Now he d committed. Now this
doesn't mean definitively he's gone. That Lincoln Riley called him
and say, hey, I'm leaving for the Cowboys might want
to go someplace else. But the combination of the silence
of Lincoln Riley, this story, we have not heard anything.
And Jerry Jones needs to make a splash and he
(01:23:51):
needs someone that can develop Dak Prescott. The only big
name is Lincoln Riley, and I think if we heard
Lincoln Riley's name with somebody else and you would see
Jerry Jones fired, Jason Garrett move on from there. But
I wonder if there's some kind of agreement something out
there that Lincoln It's gonna be very simple Jason Garrett
either as his contract lapse or they make the move
(01:24:12):
and then Lincoln Riley comes in because the Cowboys are
playing it too cool to not have somebody already ready. Well,
I mean you always go to the he can go
to to Mexico and find Matt Rule, right, I know
the Giants have been linked with him for a while
and Panthers too. Yeah, the Panthers are everybody's looking for
for grown ups. Is really the rumor for this time around, right,
(01:24:34):
and for Matt Rule it would be a step up
in class into the NFL. So the curiosity there, uh,
Carolina businessman first, right, running the show with the new
ownership there, But when you look at the Cowboys and
what Jerry Jones is, it's still gotta be about him.
(01:24:54):
You know, We've talked about it the last couple of
weeks of wondering if it was time for another one
of those Parcels like plays where it's a big name
and a guy you give more control. Not that Jerry
steps away entirely, but is this it right? Kind of?
I mean we're joking about it last night, and I
know you guys had some good fun at my expense
of it. But Jerry Riinsdorf with the White Sox, recognizing
(01:25:16):
where he's at, right on the the grand road of
life and saying, all right, it's time to go try
to win again. And Jerry was building his best fifty
three but might realize, as much as it will never
see it full out played, that he needs some more help,
which is when a guy like Bill Parcels was brought in.
And that's the question of you know, is Lincoln Riley
(01:25:37):
the guy that he would say, all right, this is
the air apparent, this is the guy to lead us,
and I just need to back off and let him
work his offensive magic because we've got the pieces in place.
I don't I don't know that that's the case, right,
which is why a guy like Mike Zimmer would make
more sense, because you see the hard nosed thing, even
if it's not an offensive guy. So just the the curiosity,
(01:25:58):
just that there's so few names being floated out. I
know folks had had had a little bit of fun
with the Jason Witten thing for a while as potential
coach and stepping right off the field and into the
coach's box there. I don't I don't think Jerry's quite
that far gone in terms of, you know, rolling up
and rolling the dice on a guy either Twitter around,
(01:26:20):
how about a fresca Mike had swollen do him the
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmen. So there's the Dallas Cowboys. Look,
I'm telling you, when all the other big names are out,
they heard nothing from Lincoln Riley. That's really ominous. For
the Browns, it's a little bit different because the Browns
want to think that, hey, we're the big boys, just
like everybody else, right, the Giants and Cowboys. No, the
(01:26:43):
difference between the Browns and these other teams is the
Browns is not a good job right now. It's not
a It's not a job where a coach can come
in and feel like he's in a position to succeed
because the fans, the media, the expectation is we got
a super Bowl caliber team and we need somebody to
come in turn Baker Mayfield into a star, and that's
(01:27:03):
what we want, and this team is not set up
for that. Look, they regressed from a year ago, and
they have a strong personality in Baker Mayfield. They have
a strong personality Odell Beckham Jr. Who's gonna cause problems
all throughout the off season. You're not simply a good
enough team, but the expectation is that you're ready and
you should be in the super Bowl. A coach sees
(01:27:24):
this situation and goes, boy, am I just hired to
be fired in a year and a half? I mean, really,
is is that? What is? If I can't turn Baker
Mayfield into a star. And many coaches may not see
Baker Mayfield as a star, they may look at him
and go, yeah, I don't know. He might have to
get another quarterback in here. But you're married to him
for at least next year, because the Browns put so
much into him that they have to get him one
(01:27:46):
more year and probably one more after that, because look,
we think Baker may so much. From Baker Mayfield's our guy.
What coach wants to sign up for that? Look at
the guys who the Browns are interviewing, right, they talked
to Mike McCarthy. But look, they talked to Mike McCarthy
last year. Eric Bana, the offensive coordinator for the Kansas
City Chiefs. Great football guy, great football mind. Not a
big name. Brian Day ball Bills offensive coordinator. Been around
(01:28:08):
for a long time. But is he a big name? No,
he's not. All right, we already talked about Mike McCarthy
being a guy, but it looks like he's gonna wind
up being the front runner for the Giants. I think
that's where it's going. Josh McDaniels is an intriguing name.
Is he a good head coach? Or is he just
maybe the best of all the guys that are out there?
You gotta wait and find out for him because the
page is still playing in the playoffs. Greg Roman, all right, hey,
(01:28:32):
Ravens offensive coordinators. Was did he do a great job
this year with Lamar Jackson? Yeah? But is he a
really really big name. No. These are all guys that
are looking for any shot in the National Football League,
not just a shot outside of McDaniels, who may get
a couple more looks. But it's not like he's endeared
himself for shown he was a great head coach before.
But these are all guys who, hey, any job will
(01:28:56):
take right. It could be the Browns, it could be
the Jaguars. These are just want to get in and
be head coaches anywhere. And so that's where the Browns
have to understand. All the other teams are living up here,
we're living down here. You're not gonna get a big name.
You're not gonna get a big head coach to come
in that's got a big resume or is gonna be
a CEO type guy. It's just not gonna happen for you. Well,
(01:29:17):
my favorite with the Greg Roman quote, h this is
from Lamar Jackson earlier. I quote they need to chill out.
We got something to do right now. We need him
to focus because we need to focus. Let us do ours.
Y'all can have y'all's turn when the season's over with.
Did you tell Greg that, No, he should know that
about that from your second year quarterback. You know you
(01:29:37):
got Kevin Stefanski too. You know the Vikings offensive coordination. Basically,
it's any team that's had a decent offense this year,
let's talk to their O C. All right, let's get
who like it's like I made this search. Okay, Well,
here's the teams with good offenses this year. Let's call
their offensive coordinators and interview them what it is. And
even with day ball, I mean, there's there's a lot
of questions as to what that offense truly is. Explain
(01:29:58):
it to me. I mean, so that where the big names,
and that's where the big head coaching openings are going
to go. Giants Mike McCarthy, Cowboys Lincoln Riley, and the
Browns are gonna have to figure out a name from
amongst the whole group who are just gonna be happy
to work in the NFL. Twitter at, how about a
fresca Mike get Swollen on The Jason Smith Show with
My best friend Mike Harmon. Coming up next, Well, tomorrow
(01:30:23):
be the end of the Patriots as we know them.
Some evidence that whenever they lose, it's gonna wind up
being the end. We got it next on Fox. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific,
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
(01:30:44):
Friend Mike Harmon Today Friday, and we got to the
Patriots in a couple of seconds. But sometimes we just
kind of have to talk about something while it's happening
right now. The Lakers in the marquee game of the
Night in the NBA as it's the first game back
for the Pelicans for Anzo Ball, brandon Ingram Josh hard
As they were the three players traded in the Anthony
Davis deal. Pelicans playing in Los Angeles. For those three players,
(01:31:08):
they had a video tribute played for them before the game.
You know, if I'm the Lakers, I want to push
forward that, hey, these are the guys that got us
Anthony Davis. But this has turned into a Lakers runaway.
It is one hundred to seventy nine with just under
two minutes to go in the third quarter. The Lakers
(01:31:29):
had a big lead at halftime. They've outscored New Orleans
by nine and they lead by twenty one. Anthony Davis
will go to the fourth quarter at the worst with
thirty eight points. He is twelve out of sixteen from
the floor. He's got ten rebounds, three steals, He's got
thirty eight Lebron has thirteen assists and this will be
(01:31:52):
the second huge game he has had against his former team,
as he lit them up earlier this year for what
was har nine. I think up against them, I lost count.
He has more points tonight than Zoe b I and
Josh Hart combined. I think that's what you do at
the end, Like we got a minute fifteen left in
the third, you'd get him to check out, and that's
(01:32:12):
the last time you see him for the night, ladies
and gentlemen, checking out for the Lakers, the guy that
they gave us the entire you know, we we gave
them nothing. We gave them spare parts and a tribute
video for Anthony Davis. When he checks out of the
They should look at his night tonight, look at him
score at will. He's also eleven of eleven from the line.
(01:32:35):
He is having another monster game again. Davis has thirty
eight and the trio of heart Ball and Ingram thirty
eight points. Yeah, a Lonzo is at least at seven
for twelve, having himself a decent shooting night eight of
you know I'm gonna I'm gonna take umbrage with you.
You know you you talked about a Lonzo sinking and
(01:32:56):
he's still staying. He has actually played really well over
the course of the past three weeks. Look, he's coming
off a triple double. You know, he's having a nice
game tonight with seventeen points. He is starting to play
a little bit more minutes. His minutes are going from
twenty three five to twenty eight and thirty, and he's
starting to put some numbers with something I said about
(01:33:16):
Lonzo Ball. Look, I'm not saying he's gonna be a superstar,
but as far as what you could what you could
have gotten from Lonzo Ball a guy disinterested, not playing
for the Lakers anymore. No, you've gotten the opposite, a
guy who's really gotten the message that, oh wait a minute,
I just got traded to New Orleans. I had everything
in front of me. I was at u c L
a star. I went to the Lakers. I was a
(01:33:37):
number two pick. Magic Johnson wanted to put my jersey
in the rafters, and now here I am and bleep
in New Orleans. And he has played pretty well. He's
shooting good from three point range. He is you know,
he is actually playing not bad. He's been a pretty
good complimentary part the past up three or four weeks.
After having a bit of a slower start, to the season.
Now he got all excited about his game against Houston.
You or I can put up a triple double with
(01:33:58):
minutes against that deep fens to be fair points third
game of the season and nobody watched it. Mike, Well,
there's two. I mean, I would be excited playing in
the Smoothie King or you know, I mean because both
Day and the Warriors are starting to get bounced off
of those national national games like we've seen flex scheduling. Come,
(01:34:21):
here's an extra helping of you know, top plays of
the night on a Sports Center part five instead of
showing you live basketball from some of these games because
nobody wants any part of it. But for the most part,
you're looking at his nine or ten points, which is
generally where he's floating from much of much of this year.
So hopefully better things ahead. I don't wish Ill will
(01:34:43):
on the guy. You say, of course, he's just been
he's a jag. No, you do you wish Ill Will
on him? I wish he LaVar was interesting again. Yeah,
he's given me nothing, zero, nothing tonight, no altercation, So
much better when he gives us nothing. He didn't go
for the Scandar act. Bar you know powder in the
(01:35:05):
eyes of anybody tonight. It's waiting for him to go
to the scores table and take Lebron's powder and maybe
try to rake across the eyes. I got nothing. No,
you know why he's done. Listen, what he does is
he promotes all of his sons until he realizes, Okay,
I gotta go to the next one. Right. It was
Alonzo Alonzo, Alonzo, Alonzo turn into a guy that got
traded and now he's a complimentary piece and he's playing
(01:35:27):
well with the Pelicans in a complimentary role. But okay,
he's not the superstar. Okay, Jello Ball can't get an
invite anywhere. So now it's all about LaMelo. You wait
until the draft comes up and it's is LaMelo Ball
gonna go number one overall. Then LaVar Ball is gonna
be back with a vengeance, and it's gonna be LaVar
Ball everywhere talking about LaMelo saying you take him. He's
gonna take forty footers. You can't tell him not to.
(01:35:48):
He's been taking his whole life. It's gonna be all
He's gonna come and take over the league. It's gonna
be interesting to watch how the development goes right playing
in the NBL, right now? Uh did some good? Don
donated a month's salary to the Australian. Wise, it was
like five, oh wow, Frogsburg off the top rope. This
is just a little cruel. I thought it was a
(01:36:10):
nice gesture. Whatever, right, No, exactly, I don't know the
salary structure of the NBL, uh and whether we've got
full details. But the reality is you got a guy
who that people are a little bit excited about. But
for Alonzo, he he's a jag. He's a former number
two pick and the highlight of his career was getting
(01:36:30):
that video montage. Listen if Lonzo Ball didn't go number
two overall because now his draft stock is out the
window because he's on a new team that made a
trade for him. You have to look at a Lonzo
as is he a decent piece to a puzzle? Yeah,
he's a decent piece to a puzzle. Least somebody that
can play a pretty good point guard for five minutes
(01:36:51):
a night. He's young, he's got upside. Is he gonna
be someone that turns? Is he gonna be Jason Kidd? No,
he's not Jason Kidd, But can he be someone that
contributes to a team and can be a good part
of a you know, one of the top seven eight
guys in a rotation. Absolutely he can do that well,
at least seeing that that right now, he's agreed and
he's gone into that role. Right. He didn't cause any
(01:37:13):
trouble at least nothing that's been reported or outward here
in New Orleans. So give him credit for that. And
Dad shut the hell up. So that helped, well, of
course it does. He what's what's he gonna say? New
Orleans is gonna win championships? I mean even LaVar Ball knows,
and he's gotta keep no. I mean, he could still
be complaining about shots and playing time and everything else.
(01:37:34):
He could say Drew Brees sucks. He could Hey, is
Drew Brees still on hold? We can get him in.
He's got a big game this week. You know, also
is more important to the city of New Orleans than
Drew Brees. No, but look, I mean, look for for
a team like the Pelicans who had to negotiate this
trade with the Lakers with one hand, with one arm
(01:37:55):
tied behind their backs because Anthony Davis wanted the Lakers
and that was it. So what are we gonna get now.
The Lakers offered a big package during the season, but
because of the whole tampering, the Pelicans got pissed at
the Lakers. The Lakers got pissed at the Pelicans. They
had to wait hire a new GM and now, okay,
figure it out, all right, what are we gonna get? Well,
Brandon Ingram scoring twenty five a game, he's blossomed into
(01:38:18):
a guy that the Lakers thought he was going to
Now would he because they're all blowouts a very special blossom. No,
but he's someone that would he be scoring? No, because
he fits in with what the Pelicans do on offense
better than what the Lakers do, because he never fit
in with Lebron James. He's an eighteen and seven guy,
and there's a hundred guys like that in the NBA.
(01:38:39):
They're also trash, So it's go get yours, right, But still,
game is still twenty five game and Lonzo ball is
a is a decent piece. You have the number one
picks as well, and Heart's been playing pretty well. He's
a ten and six guy off the bench. I mean,
this was as good a trade as you were gonna make.
And it's not like these guys have fallen off the
face of the earth and they have no value. No,
(01:39:00):
they've played as well as you could expect. Look, if
you told me this is what the Pelicans are gonna get.
You're gonna get twenty five a game from Brandon Ingram.
You're gonna get ten, six and six from Lonzo in
about twenty four minutes a night. You're gonna get ten
and six from from Josh Hart. They would say, yes,
sign me up for that. And that's what they're getting. Well,
and you're getting three extra lottery balls. Come on, I mean,
it's it's a bonus. Again, as you said, hand tied
(01:39:20):
behind your back. The fact that they were still able
to get that much, the conspiracy theory that we always
have with an an NBA draft and and shenanigans about
trades and whatever else, I gotta think that the NBA
said keep going and the Lakers still got a steal. Yeah,
we're not signing this and keep going. Oh they do
they do the trade. They do trade a thousand times. Again,
look at what they've done. You got the guys to
(01:39:42):
at least push you in the run for the West
and towards a title. And once you can add another
banner to the rafters. If you add another banner to
the rafters, all worthwhile in the interim, you're they're interesting
for the first time for positive reasons, in the first
first time in seven years, Twitter at how about a fresca?
Mike gets swollen Dome The Jason Smith Show with My
(01:40:03):
best friend Mike Harmon. I just defended Lonzo Ball but
for the first time in like two years. That castle
for you. Wow. And then and Frostberg didn't yell at
me to start yelling about Kobe, Koby, Koby, What the
hell's going on here? It's a new world order. It's
one of those crazy Friday nights coming up in ninety seconds.
Is the end coming for the Patriots and Tom Brady?
(01:40:24):
But first, be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I
Heart Radio app live from the Getic Studios, The Jason
Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon and speaking
of the playoffs coming up in a few minutes, gonna
(01:40:44):
preview and pick some of the big games coming up
this weekend in the NFL. All the attention is being
spent on the Patriots Titans game because this could be
the final game of Tom Brady's career with the New
England Patriots. All of the rumors that he wants to
leave and go someplace else, this could be the final game. Now,
whether it is or not, the last game of the
(01:41:07):
Patriots season this year is going to wind up being
the end of Tom Brady in New England. We've talked
at length for the past few months about all the
crumbs that have been dropped telling us this is gonna happen.
Brady opting out of his contract, selling his house, his trainers,
selling his house, all of these things, and now it's
it's become a general media consensus that, Okay, what's gonna
(01:41:29):
be next for Tom Brady? Where is he going? And
when Tom Brady was asked about it today, didn't say
I want to stay, didn't say I'm here, He said
I'm focused on on on the game this weekend. Bill
Belichick said the same thing. So of all the bits
of information we've seen to tell us that Tom Brady
is going to wind up leaving, how about something not
(01:41:50):
involving Tom Brady. That's another piece of evidence. That's telling
us why Brady is gonna go at the end of
the season. How about this, let's go detective here right now.
You know Brady's got problems with Belichick. He's got problems
with Josh McDaniels right there. This is this, This is
the issue right now. Josh McDaniels is a candidate for
other head coaching jobs in the National Football League. He
(01:42:11):
has set January tenth as his quote interview date because
he can't interview now because the Patriots have a game
this weekend, and you know they want the NFL figuring
out a way to make candidates available when they're still
in the playoffs. I want to deprive guys of coaching opportunities.
McDaniels is gonna get his chance. But wait a minute,
Wait a minute. He had his chance a couple of
years ago, pretty much took the job with the Colts
(01:42:33):
and then backed out at the last second. He backed
out of going to coach Andrew Luck with a lot
of money to spend and a good offensive line, and
he said no. Why did that happen? Most likely because
the Patriots told him, listen, you're our guy. Belichick is
gonna retire in a couple of years. Belichick probably said, listen,
only a couple of years left, and McDaniels is going
to be the head coach in waiting. And Josh McDaniels said, okay, fine,
(01:42:56):
but now fast forward a couple of years, and what's
happening Now? Brady's still not happy. We had the big
bombshell that Brady wasn't happy with Garoppolo and and Kraft
took Brady side, trading Garoppolo away. Look, you know there's
bad blood. You know that Belichick and Brady don't like
each other, and they're Stringer and Avon from the wire.
They're trying to get each other while they're working together.
(01:43:18):
Why is Josh McDaniels now interviewing Because Bill Belichick most
likely is staying because Tom Brady is going. So instead
of retiring a couple of years, Belichick is now gonna
stay because you know, each of them wants to prove
I can win without you. Belichick wants to prove I
can win without Tom Brady. Brady wants to go someplace
(01:43:38):
to say I want to prove I can win without
Bill Belichick. So this is now going to happen. How
much longer is Josh McDaniels gonna stay around before he
becomes a head coach. All right, I don't know when
this is happening. Now, Belichick sixties seventy could coach other
five six years. No, no, if people want me. Now,
it's kind of a limited coaching pool where teams still
are on the after effects and vape is of wanting
(01:44:00):
an offensive mind to come in and and and and
bring and developed quarterbacks. I'm gonna go out there and
I'm gonna interview. This is why Josh McDaniels is interviewing,
because all these things are happening that Belichick is gonna stay.
So now I'm not gonna wait five seven. Look, Mike
Hopkins at Syracuse was the coaching waiting for almost ten years,
but Jim Behim keeps saying I'm gonna stay. I'm gonna stay.
(01:44:22):
So Hopkins goes and he coaches Washington and now Washington's
playing really well. You can only be that coaching waiting
for so long. But why is Josh McDaniels now interviewing
when he had a great job set up a couple
of years ago and said, no, you gotta connect those dots.
Brady's leaving which means Belichick is staying, which means that
McDaniels wants to be a head coach again. He's got
to get out there and go someplace else. Well, the
(01:44:42):
potential for fun of a new offensive coordinator, for for
Tom Brady to work with creativity, go find him another option, right.
We talked with Jason cole fans side and our our
friend of the Show Hall of Fame voter, all of
those um big credentials, uh to back it years covering
the league saying, well, you know, Brady, it makes most
(01:45:04):
sense to finish things off. So maybe you bring in
another coordinator that's more to his liking and they figure
it out for another year or two, and McDaniels goes
and and tries to either fix Baker Mayfield or be
the guy that solves the fumbling issues and all of
that that go along with the big plays of Daniel Jones. Uh.
(01:45:24):
I don't know that McDaniels leaving, especially when you've got
acrimony right and and certainly some issues with how things
have been set up, and it's more Belichick. I think
McDaniels is just not necessarily a fall guy in the process.
But he's not the guy bringing in talent, right, He's
not the guy trying to go find wide receivers. And
(01:45:45):
I would have loved to have seen this offense with
the full in Kiel Harry or Antonio Brown still while
being that Antonio Brown that became an All Decade team
member a little bit earlier today. Uh, in that grid
that was going out, or at least the unofficial ones
that media are starting to pump uh in all that process.
So you have that. I I still think Brady's there.
(01:46:08):
I don't. I don't think it dies. I think it
just reboots for whatever the two to three years that
are left. And then Belichick gets to seventy and he
starts looking more like Ian McDermott. Voice gets a little darker,
you know. I mean, maybe he has lasers from his
fingertips at some point when he gets ticked by a
question absolute power. You know, I could see that if
(01:46:31):
Brady wasn't not not that he's not smarter than that,
but it doesn't need to be him to go and
sign a one or two year deal somewhere. That's not
what he's gonna do. He's gonna do what Peyton Manning did.
He's gonna look at The next step is okay, the
cults are gonna move on, but I still have a
lot of career left. I'm gonna go somewhere for four years,
and Brady's gonna go sign a four year deal somewhere
(01:46:52):
so it can be you can build around me. I'm
gonna get to play till I'm forty five. I still
have it. Give me weapons, and I can be the
same what her back I was a few years ago.
This is not well, I'm gonna go sign one year here.
What He's not gonna just bounce around the league. He's
gonna go this is my destination and it's gonna be
visits and stories. Just like Peyton Manning he went to Denver,
he went here, he went here. That's what it's gonna be,
(01:47:14):
and it's gonna be. This is now just the next
part of my career, and it's gonna be a four
year thing, just like college, instead of just a one
or two year I'm trying to hold on to be
a bridge quarterback somewhere. If that was the case, I
would say, yeah, Brady would stay, but I don't see
how he can get against that. Who's gonna not give
Tom Brady a contract or the Bears not gonna give
him four years? Are their chargers not gonna give him
(01:47:35):
four years? Of course they will. I'll be in the
following Monday, or however long it takes for a jersey
to show up at the ends up in Chicago, because
it'll just betch you to know, end, how many days
you're gonna wear that Brady jersey every day the rest
of our ten year together, just to taunt you. But
you know, we'd love him down the road here in
Los Angeles as well. That would be a lot of
(01:47:57):
fun for us, especially with those big playmakers on outside.
That'd be a lot of fun to watch. And he
didn't have four next surgeries like Peyton Manning get either
Twitter at how about a Fresco Mike at swollen dumps.
They just connect the dots. There another piece of evidence
why that divorce is coming. Coming up next, We're gonna
pick some of the games this weekend in the National
(01:48:18):
Football League as the playoffs are here. We got some
shockers coming your way. I'm full evidence that I could
be crazy with the games I'm gonna pick coming up next.
Keep it right here, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with
(01:48:41):
My best friend Mike Harmon Live from the Geico Studios.
Things get a little close right now at Staples Center. Yeah,
they are Lakers lead over New Orleans is now down
to eight one ten Night one oh two with five
minutes left to go. New Orleans hanging tough in the game,
(01:49:01):
which they were just getting boat race going to the
fourth quarter, but they have made it a tough game here,
still five minutes left to go. We'll have more on
this game coming up throughout the rest of the show
is we got more on the Lakers because this is
a big night for Anthony Davis playing against his old
team as the Lakers welcome back heart ingram Alonzo ball
(01:49:23):
for the first time in giving them a much deserved
depending on who you talk to, video tribute before the game. Well,
we tease him a lot and we've got him on
the spot welcome back. But it's another big football Friday
and we're are chock full of coaching news, NFL wild
(01:49:43):
card news, quarterback news, and one of the things we're
doing tonight's We're picking all the games this weekend and
sheer events that I am crazy as right now, we're
gonna pick the two NFC games this weekend in the
NFL evidence Part one that I'm crazy, but I'm taking
(01:50:03):
Minnesota over New Orleans feeling Minnesota. I'm not the t
J looking California feeling Kirk Cousins in Minnesota looking in
the mirror, bodies getting old. Now. Oh yeah, so now
you know it's mystified. I'm sort of buying Kirk Cousins again.
(01:50:26):
Remember I told you the Kirk Cousins game two weeks
ago that happened. Kirk Cousins game ever. Yeah, but Aaron
Rodgers sucked that game too, right, But Dalvin Cook is back,
Adam Feeling is back. I know they have some injuries
on defense, but their offense is primed to have a
huge game. This is as healthy as they've been on offense.
As long as Cousin Don't doesn't throw four picks, Minnesota
(01:50:47):
pulls the upset. Their defense will hold New Orleans down
just enough. They win this game thirty eight thirty one,
and it may not be the Kirk Cousins game, but
it will be boy. Look at Minnesota with the big
win they go in and pulled on me. I mean,
I feel like I'm crazy, but I'm feeling Minnesota in
this game. Curious to see the balance that they achieve here.
(01:51:09):
Dalvin Cook back, feeling been waiting for him to re
re energize his part to the offense. A lot of
Stefon digs. You saw Kyle Rudolph take out a bigger
role while Feeland was out, but they didn't have a
lot of consistency with that second and tertiary receiving part
in the in the offense. There for Dalvin Cook, he's
(01:51:29):
the guy that makes a go. But I think New
Orleans defense in front is up to the task. Where
it's curious for me is Alvin Kamara. He's only touched
the ball. I mean, you're talking about twenty touches a game,
but he's only carried the ball the season highest seventeen
in the twelve ten win over Dallas. I'm looking for
a bigger role out of him, more balance, uh in
(01:51:50):
the offense and from Michael Thomas, you know he's gonna
get his Jared Cook. This is a tray Kwan Smith
or Ted Ginn or one of these other receivers has
to come up big against a Minnesota secondary that was
leaky at times this year. I'm looking for in New
Orleans win Minnesota. Hanks tough, and you get some style
points from Kirk Cousins because he he slings it around
(01:52:12):
with Drew Brees. But Drew Brees gets the way and
moves on alright, so we differ there. Now let's get
to Philadelphia and Seattle again. I am fully crazy, but
I'm taking the Eagles over Seattle. Two weeks ago I
wouldn't have done this, But two weeks ago, the Seahawks
were completely healthy in the backfield and they were running
(01:52:32):
the football really, really well, and they were terrific. But
they lost all their running backs to injury. And now
they're trying to make do with Marshawn Lynch trying to
spark the team a little bit. They're not gonna be
able to run the football well enough in Philadelphia. They're
in a rocky spot. They have not looked great the
last couple of weeks. They haven't looked awful, but they
(01:52:53):
have not looked great. And you're gonna have to ask
Russell Wilson to win this game. All by himself. Philadelphia
is rising. They're playing their best football this season. They've
won four in a row. And there is nobody on
this field with more to prove in this game than
Carson Wentz. I know he's gonna be missing some weapons.
You got, Zach Ertz could be out. It doesn't matter.
(01:53:13):
They will come up big. He will come up big,
maybe to the point where it's a car. It's the
Carson Wentz game. Here he is in his first playoff game,
and look at what he did. I see Philadelphia. Wentz
throws for three touchdowns and it's boy, look at Philadelphia.
We doubted them and the division was bad, but here
they are with a big win and Philadelphia sent Seattle home. Yeah.
(01:53:34):
I picked them to go to the super Bowl, So
I can't stop now. I gotta roll one and a
half point home underdogs. As you go through, did you
imagine the depleted running back position Marshawn Lynch extra week.
Maybe that helps a little bit, uh to get some
balance there. But looking at Miles Sanders, looking at Dallas Goddard,
(01:53:55):
Zach Erge probably isn't gonna go. They're also talking, Hey,
this is a life thing. This isn't just playing in
a ask on a football game as I'm watching basketball
on the monitor. But yeah, i gotta stick with Philadelphia.
Carson Wentz makes big plays, makes people forget some of
the ills early in the season. So there's our NFC picks.
Next hour, we'll do our a f C picks. But
coming up next new Super Bowl picks. Fox. Be sure
(01:54:18):
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harman weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
The second slide Over maybe hour of the New year.
Mike sliding over in l A. I'm sliding over in Detroit.
I'm an hour away from White Castle again. Last night
(01:54:44):
after the show, I drove home to twenty in the morning,
I pull up at White Castle and I got a
couple of double cheese burgers and a drink. Very sexual,
And they said, sir, this is a Wendy's whoa to
my weddings. Is an open twenty four hours. No one
goes there. There's gotta be something that opened twenty four
(01:55:06):
hours if you got a square. The open period two
hour places here in Detroit and outside of Detroit. White Castle,
Tim Horton's and you get a random McDonald's once and all.
You can't have any more greasy spoons just down the street.
I mean, but I'm not going into a restaurant. Come on,
(01:55:27):
that's you know what people be a man of the people.
You go into a diner at two twenty in the morning,
it's like walking into the canteena and start, dare you
you know what's going to happen? Those are real people, Americans.
Just make sure to draw first. No, I can't do it.
I can't do it. No way, come on, I've got
(01:55:48):
the death sentence on twelve systems. Man, what if you
wear your your bull cut wig and going like, hey,
that's the guy that was on the horts and buggy
that That might be my favorite story of the last
ten days I spent here in Detroit is the four
guys that stole the horse and buggy because they were drinking.
(01:56:09):
And that's the best part. They were caught speeding, speeding
and the horse and buggy. It's a beautiful thing. You
realize the speed for a horse and buggy is four
miles an hour. You were going six months, you know
how bad you were going. I mean, there's something to
be said about looking out for the animals. Right, Oh
(01:56:30):
that's true. Now you're right, you're right, one on one,
there is a speed limit there. I didn't you know what,
Look at you. I'm glad you're thinking. Hey, speaking that
or there in Italy and they become horse meat sandwich
speaking of speed you know, speaking of speed limit and
watching the animals. But you know, in a couple minutes,
we're gonna we're gonna get to a big story in
the NFL. But um maybe yeah, I'm just gonna say it.
(01:56:55):
So one of the big stories that involves you an
assesspitous of the Mets. Yeah, it does. Week ago, it
was determined that Sespenis his salary is gonna go down
from twenty nine million to six million dollars this year
because he missed all of last year, partly because of
heel surgery, but mainly due to an ankle injury suffered
when he's fell into a hole on his ranch property.
(01:57:17):
It was just found out and reported today why Elina
Sespenis fell in a hole, it's because on his property
he has set out traps for wild boar. When he
went out to free wild boar from a trapped and
want wild boar all over his property. The wild boar
got loose, chased him, and he fell into a hole,
and that's how he hurt his ankle. Wild boar violent
(01:57:43):
fall on the outfielder's ranch, which was not baseball related. Well,
if it's on the ranch, I don't think his baseball
unless he's playing baseball with the wild boar. All right,
take this ball in your mouth and go. But that's
just it. He got him in a trap, and then
in releasing him, that's where you had the charge and
and startling him to create a problem. He steps in
(01:58:04):
the whole fracture as his ankle. Man, We've seen a
lot of dumb, dumb injuries in baseball. I mean, they
probably are the league leaders when we go across everything,
the Mets, but just saying major league baseball, if we're
gonna go through all the leagues, generally, we've got some
really dumb things that happened to baseball players. This one
(01:58:25):
is about as good as it gets. Yeah, no, this
is pretty dumb. This is pretty dumb. I've it's an
awful lot of money to lose over a wild boar.
You know, I'm wondering, you know what was the wild boar,
because you know, we bought that big prize pig and
then ate it. You know, do you think that's why
it's catching the wild boar and they're cooking up wild boar?
I have no doubt. Or he's given him to Ezekiel
(01:58:46):
Elliot's dad to go watch over me, you know, just
to to show you that that maybe I have a
lot more in common with the mets. And you think
I'm gonna get such a nerdution for this here, all right?
So you know what, you can go to pottermore dot
com Harry Potter and my daughter gets sorted into the house,
(01:59:07):
and you get sorted into the house, right, So we
sorted in. I got sorted into raven cloth. Yeah, so
did I? So no, I have a pin on my hat. Yeah,
And I'm fine with that because that's where all the
hot girls were. They're all raven cloth. So then it
lets you find out what your patronus is, right, which
you know, Harry Potter has a patronis chair and I
did my answer questions and my patronis is a wild boar.
(01:59:29):
That's pretty good. How about that? It's some ferocity there
by the way, wild boar sausage. I can get um
a twelve ounce package of four sausage links for nine
butts at what website yet hashtag sesspentist farm dot com.
Well it is Fossil Farms might be a subsidiary of
the sessment its global. Oh, the guy was running away
(01:59:53):
from wild boar on as far great as that? That
is the most DETSI mets injuries. Well, I mean this
is better. Remember Clint Barns when he was he fell
down and that was found that he was trying to
carry you know, some venicine up up some stairs and
had a fall and it hurt himself that way. So yeah,
I'm on a site that's pretty good. And I got alligator, antelope, duck,
(02:00:17):
helk animals and had Zeke's dad a charge of him,
but uh, the serval got out, So now I had
to return all of these to the to the different
zoos that had him, had to give the pterodactyl back
to Yeah. While they do not have servil on the list,
they do have yak, which is one of your favorite words,
(02:00:38):
and not yards after the cash. Yeah, no, this is
I mean I feel like I need to ship some in.
Just what did you have for dinner, I had yak
with Cespenis. You know you wait, the Cespenis in the
wild Board does sound like a rejected Harry Potter title. Yeah,
it's either that or a movie down the street taking
out a whole other level of meaning. Just crazy man
(02:01:02):
Twitter and out about a fresca might get swollen. Wild
Boar The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmen. And now
that we are on the cusp of wild Card weekend
in the NFL, the first games just a few hours away.
Wild Boar, wild Card, Let's go wild. That's right front
t J. Wild Boar too. It's time for us to
(02:01:23):
make our revised Super Bowl picks. Now Mike doesn't have
to make his revive anything critique, you right, because the
teams that I picked for the Super Bowl did not
qualify for the playoffs. I had Steelers, Cowboys and the Steelers. Look, hey,
Steelers wound up winning nine eighty. They were fine. They
lost Roethlisburger. That really hurt them. They might have been there.
(02:01:43):
The Cowboys were just short. But in the end, neither
team I picked made the playoffs. So I gotta go
different and pick my teams from the current playoff pool.
So a f C can's a city. They will go
into Baltimore and pull the upset and win. They are
(02:02:06):
peaking right now. This offense is peaking. Their defense is
playing extremely well. They were this close last year. They
know what it means to get over the hump, and
in a big duel, I will take Patrick Mahomes over
Lamar Jackson. Not that the Chiefs can stop Lamar Jackson,
but can they slow him down enough in a big
game where the pressure is at its absolute highest. Hey,
(02:02:29):
it's nice and you can play weeks one through sixteen
and play great in the first round of the playoffs
round you get to that a f C championship game
and the Super Bowl starts looking really real. I'll go
with the team that basically everybody was back from last year.
They almost were there. Mahomes knows what he needs to
do this year. It's gonna be a better outcome for them,
even on the road. I'll take the Chiefs over the Ravens.
(02:02:52):
The Chiefs go to the Super Bowl. Chiefs are really
I think everybody's sleeping on him. Right. Defense got better.
You look at the injury that Mahomes suffered. Obviously not
nearly as dire as we thought when we were watching
it on air, and he's back and didn't show it
really any effect ill effect as you went defense plus
Lashawn McCoy, they load managed him really well and you
(02:03:14):
know what, they still made the playoffs in a number
two seed where the Rams did it with Todd Gurley
and they're sitting at home. But you also look at
McCole Hardman. I think he's a wild card in this
because Hill and Travis Kelsey were known commodities. You got
the speed stir on the other side. I think he
could be a difference maker. I like the the gutsy pick,
although it's awful hard for me to pick against mark
(02:03:35):
Ingram because I like the way they row the boat. Yeah,
and they say that he's gonna be back and he's
gonna be able to play, and that's gonna make it
more difficult. But you know, you're right. People are sleeping
on the Chiefs because they started out not as dominant
as they were last year. Mahomes got hurt and it
was all maybe the Chiefs are missing something. No, they
they knew when to peak now well, and you look
(02:03:55):
at the Ravens are the shiny new toy, right, just
like Mahomes was a year ago, and you had everybody excited,
uh forty seven out of fifty guys, Bill Polly, and
we really need to just take away your voting privileges
to anything. I have Lamar Jackson as their first team
All Pro and you know it's the exciting all right,
here's what Harbaugh did. He reinvents himself, reinvents the offense,
(02:04:18):
all this excitement. The run game dominates two plus yards
per game. So yeah, it's the shiny new toy syndrome.
Just like everybody post Holidays, all the stuff you used
to buy have for your kid. They don't care anymore,
at least for a week or two. NFC, and this
is another team everybody is sleeping on despite the fact
they're the best team in the conference. The forty Niners
(02:04:41):
are going to the super Bowl. They have home field
advantage all the way through. They are the most complete
team in the National Football League. They can win any
kind of game, and that's a that's a big thing
because middle of the season, when they're piling up wins
and they're six and oh seven, oh eight, note was boy,
look how good the Niners are. But Jimmy Garoppolo was
playing well, and we had a big couple of nights
(02:05:02):
conversation that he's got to turn into the guy they
signed if they're gonna go to the super Bowl. I mean,
he's got to do that. And then what did we see.
He had a great run of games and he was
able to throw them into victories when it looked like
things weren't working out for them. The fact they can
win a shootout, they can also win a game where
they control the football by running it the entire game.
(02:05:22):
That's a really big thing. You need to be able
to be that kind have that kind of variety. If
you're gonna be that big time Super Bowl threat, everybody's
got to come to them. No quarterbacks gonna walk in
and have a big game on them, whether it's Aaron Rodgers,
Carson Wentz, whoever it is. Their defense is just that good.
In fact, for my money, now that the best defense
in the NFL. Pages had a great first half of
(02:05:44):
the season, but the Niners defense is so good. But
because the Niners aren't that sexy, well, we're finding a
way to say, oh, this could be Aaron Rodgers, time,
this could be Drew Brees. Is time to get back
to the Super Bowl. The Niners are the best team
in the NFC. Niners Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Well
think it goes back to the same thing, sleeping on
the Chiefs, but the jury was out on Garoppolo. You
(02:06:06):
bring in Emmanuel Sanders, that offense started the motor. You
bring in Moster, who takes over as your number one
running back when Brita was hurt, and then they load
managed him. So now he's ready for the playoffs. George
Kittle playing on one ankle, still don't know what he's
hopped up on off from the training room to get
through it. But God bless him. He's been a fun
(02:06:26):
watch and he loves wrestling as much as we do,
so he wins for that factor as well. But Garoppolo
playing good football, and the old rule of thumb, you
will go out and I'll never begrudge a guy paying
big money to their quarterback or who they draft, because
you gotta take your shot and you hit yourself. Uh
you know that that wagon And Garoppolo has played really
(02:06:47):
well the second half of the year. We'll see if
some of the flutter balls that befell him in the
first half re emerged. But you certainly have enough weapons
down field, and in the NFC, I just don't know
that there's any team that's gonna commit to the on
game well enough, Seattle against that squad would have been
fun for another run, you know, in a playoffs scenario
if they'd been healthy. But now we have no idea
(02:07:08):
what you get with Mars, Shawn Lynch and the cast
of characters there. For me, I had New England in Philadelphia,
so I've got to stick with them, and both of
them right now, I think to see that matchup, I've
got a snowball's chance in hell, but stranger things would happen.
Right You've got Tom Brady and of course you've got
your fun and exciting world of Carson Wentz Twitter at
(02:07:29):
how about a Fresca Mike at Swollen Dumps. There you go.
Mike just had to stick with his picks, even though
the percentage chances is not as great. But he didn't
have to change them like I did. But I'm telling you,
Kansas City, San Francisco, get ready for that Super Bowl.
We have more big news from the NFL coming up next,
as well as the one fear I have for the
Lakers following another dominant win over some old friends tonight.
(02:07:52):
That's coming up next right here on Fox. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm easterns seven pm Pacific
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My bas
friend Mike Harmon. I've had sex with him like fifty
sixty times on camera, on camera. Always make sure you
(02:08:12):
have that. Oh yeah, Lakers beat the Pelicans one, one thirteen.
You're gonna have more on that coming up in a
few minutes. A huge night for Anthony Davis forty six
against the Pelicans as the Lakers got out to a
huge lead and kind of like the other night against
the Suns where they allowed the Pelicans to creep back in.
(02:08:33):
The Lakers let the Pelicans get to within seven, but
they hit clutch shots and free throws late. They improved
a twenty eight and seven on the season, and they
welcome back Josh Hart and Brandon Ingraman Lonzo Ball with
a big victory. The three former Lakers get a big
welcome back video played for them prior to the game.
(02:08:53):
I think they teased him a lot in the fourth
corner by letting him get back in the game. I
mean that that really is embarrassing that you had had
a video for them, but they missed out on an
opportunity to make it. Hey, these are the guys who
helped us get Anthony Davis. So let's put a taither
a big round of applause for all three of these guys.
How about that? Well that that's the way to do it, though,
(02:09:14):
is do the minute long video and then introduced Anthony Davis.
They had to go so we can pick up from Chicago.
We'll love more on this game and a big word
the only real worry for the Lakers right now. It's
a big one, but doesn't mean it can't be solved.
But joining us now on the Hotline. You see him
Monday through Friday, lead actor on Fox Sports ones lock
(02:09:36):
it In. Former odds maker at Caesar's. Could also check
out his bet the Board podcast as well. It is
our insider in Las Vegas, Todd Firm and Todd, what's
happening to my friend? Not a whole act of a lot.
I'm impressed you're away because this late on the East Coaster. Smith,
I'm proud of you. Well, but here's the thing is,
I'm gonna go to White Castle right after the show,
So I gotta stay up and look forward to that.
(02:09:57):
I mean, you shouldn't be doing a white castle. Are
a big Boys still listening throughout the state of Michigan?
That tree should be going for your twenty four hour
food craving. You know, not only do they have Big Boy,
but they have like upscale Big Boy where it looks
almost like a bistro. See, there you go. They're trying
to class up to join four. You So when you
come stumbling in there at about three thirty in the morning,
when you get off the ship to dealing with Rossberg
(02:10:18):
and Harmon, you'll be able to satiate your appetite for
Mets baseball and Syracuse football at the same time. Yes,
because I could walk in and start talking about the
Mets and they would say, yeah, go on, We're gonna
give you whatever food you want now, come on. That's hey,
you know what they do. They definitely don't want to
talk about the Tigers, that's for sure, And they're not
anxiously awaiting Alliance playoff game this weekend. So there's not
a whole lot to be excited about the state of
Michigan unless you're talking about Michigan Football who will be
(02:10:41):
replacement coach Urbon inevitably leave sometime in the next year
and a half two years. All, well, let's look ahead. Now,
we got the big weekend in the National Football League tomorrow.
Let's deal with the Saturday games. First, Bills, Texans, Titans, Patriots.
What do you like? Well, I think when you look
at the early game, the real question is is Josh
Allen gonna be ready for a game of this magnitude.
The Bills passing attack all season long was extremely erratic,
(02:11:03):
but they relied on their defense to get to the
point in the season where they could obviously rest their
players against the Jets in Week seventeam. The problem with
the Bills resume this year, though, is they haven't been
a single playoff quarterback all year, and the only playoff
team they've beaten with the Tennessee Titans back when Marcus
Mariota was still their starting quarterback. Meanwhile, on the other side,
you look at the Houston Texans. They're gonna have to
show some balance, and I think Carlos Hyde becomes the
(02:11:25):
key to their success because throwing into the teeth that
Bill's defense won't vote all that well. But Deshaun Watson
pretty outspoken all weeks, and he learned quite a bit
from his first playoff game that didn't go so well
last year. Despite money coming in on Buffalo. I actually
like the Taxson Titans. Tex Titan need for me to
say the texts to get to win and move on
to the next round of the last Yeah, the curiosity
(02:11:46):
for me is does will fuller at least be able?
Is he able to give it a go at? All right?
Because John Watson much better with him on the field,
no doubt about it. Her and I know you're a
fantasy guy in the productivity for that Texas passing attack.
It definitely gets better with him being out there, and
even if he starts, will be able to go full
four quarters. Because if you're relying on just Hopkins and
Kenny Stills is your vertical passing game, I don't think
(02:12:08):
it sets up all that well knowing Cornavious White is
gonna be living in DeAndre Hopkins back pocket. All right?
When you look at the Sunday games Vikings, Saints, Seahawks,
Eagles evidence, I'm sure I am crazy, Todd, but I
like the Vikings and the Seahawks to pull the upsets
on the road. Well, I don't think the Eagles the
Eagles for the upset at home. I don't think you're
(02:12:29):
crazy at all to like the Vikings. We've actually seen
professional money come in. Fox Bed opened that number at eight.
Number has trickled down the seven and a half, and
you look at coach Zimmerson's taking over as head coach
of the Vikings. His teams have covered six plus percent
of the time when they're installed as an underdog. Now,
this Vikings defense isn't anywhere close to what we've seen
in the past. A little banged up in the secondary
(02:12:50):
with Mike Hughes going on, I R McKenzie. Alexander slated
to miss the game, but the offense will be healthier
than they've been since probably the middle of the season.
Dalvin Cook expected to be a full go see if
he's more of a decoy when it comes to the
ground game and using him as a receiver to keep
those shoulders healthy and Adam Feeling you would hope is
finally able to run route the way he needs to
with that lingering hamstring injury. But the Saints have been
(02:13:11):
a juggernaut and they're clearly figuring things out offensively. Jered
Cook has been dynamic. Alvin Kamara, who is absent for
about twelve weeks in terms of finding the end zone,
got things going in the tail end of the regular season.
And Michael Thomas is a nightmare matchup. But asking the
Viking used to keep this game within the seven and
a half, I don't think he's a big ask whatsoever.

Board Pod again all the information you need uh to
be smarter than the average bearer when it comes to betting, Uh, Todd,
go back to the Saturday afternoon. We've got Tom Brady
(02:13:55):
and everybody is already trying to figure out how to
put the last last shovel dirt on the New England Patriots.
And Ryan Tannehill has got to be the guy to
figure out that defense. Five and a half was the
last number I saw on that Patriots at home, though
a tough out for this is a game I'm not
sure I'd be running to bet either side. It's hard
(02:14:17):
to e north Tom Brady's success in the postseason on
He's twenty and three straight up at home, nine and
one against the spread and wall. This current iteration of
the Patriots offense isn't anything to write home about. You
mentioned it harm and it's the defense that's gonna try
and do everything they can to confuse Ryan Tannehill, who,
despite having multiple wins as a Dolphins starting quarterback against
the Patriots, none of them came up in New England.
(02:14:38):
And when you look at the past defense, it really
has been a tale of two seasons. Though they held
their first date opponents to less than eight points per
game over the last eight games of the season a
food work than pretty points per game, but I really
believe that was rock bottom last week against the Miami
Dolphins and Ryan Fitzpatrick, I think you're gonna see Bill
Belichick scheme up a game pot and to at least
neutralized Derrick Henry and or take a j Brown out
(02:14:59):
of the food and if Ryan Tannehill can deal with
the secondary receivers, the Titans a lot more than a
puncher's chance. But I get the feeling that New England
still has a few tricks up their sleep, and it
may resemble the team we saw a Week sixteen at
home against Buffalo, more so than the team that we
saw close out the regular season. Last Sunday, Vegas insider
Todd Ferman, lead actor on Fox Sports Ones locking in
our guest here on the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen.
(02:15:21):
All right, let's get to some of the coaching situations
right now. Who are your leaders, odds on favorites. We'll
talk about the big openings. First, Dallas Cowboys. Who's your
odds on favorite for that job? It's Josh McDaniels right now.
But I still I'm not sure the Cowboys want to
go in that direction. We know there's not exactly a
whole lot of love loss between Jared Jones and Robert Craft.
(02:15:41):
Would be interesting to see Jones almost play sloppy seconds
to a Patriots o C. I think you have to
drive up to Norman, Oklahoma and do everything you can
to at least try to have a serious conversation with
Lincoln Riley, because if you're the Cowboys, you need to
put butts to the seats in a dynamic offense with
a crazy scheme I think would go a long way.
The hard part is we've seen a lot of those
college coaches, whether it was Steve Spurrier, Bobby Petrino, Chip Kelly,
(02:16:06):
not really take right away to the National Football League.
So it'll be anybody's guests in terms of if Lincoln
becomes the front under there. I'm just not buying all
the Urban Meyer hype. I know he's been rumored in
the Cleveland job and the Cowboys job. A lot of
the criticism of Urban towards the tail end of his
time with Ohio State was that he wasn't as involved
in the game planning in the XS and Ohs. He
was a great CEO and recruiter, but I think in
(02:16:28):
the National Football League you have to be involved a
lot more of the individual game planning than anything else.
And I don't really see Urban coming back in two
thousand and twenty as a head coach, at least not
in the NFL. Todd, I know the other you know,
with the the Cowboys, the Browns, the Giants. I think
everybody's just spreading some money around on Josh McDaniels, but
it seems that Mike McCarthy is a more obvious fit
(02:16:49):
for what Gettleman and the Giants are trying to do. Well,
that's I think his he becomes a logical choice there
in New York. I still think there are some interesting
ties from Matt rule. I don't know if the Giants
would want go in that direction, but you do want
a little bit of a veteran leadership, and despite the
riff towards the latter half of the time together in
Green Bay, Mike McCarthy did an outstanding job with that team.
(02:17:10):
So I hate to always see some of these coaches
who fail in one spot get recycled, but every now
and again, sometimes a change the scenery goes a long way,
and I think the Giants need someone that can work
with a young quarterback because that team, if they're able
to stay healthy as far as the skill positions are
concerned and address the defensive line issues. I don't think
the Giants are as far away from being competitive in
(02:17:30):
the NFC East to some people are led to believe.
I think it's gonna take the Washington Redskins a lot
longer to get there to where they want to go
than it will the Giants well, especially because it's Thanksgiving
only there. They're still like a month and a half
behind us. They have plenty of regular season games to go,
and I'm sure Daniel Snyder would love if Twayne Haskins
had six extra freebee spaces to take care of his
learning curve to get him ready for the upcoming season.
(02:17:52):
But we'll see what Ron Rivera can do. I'm very
curious to see how he'll handle uh, the dysfunctional organization
that has been and will continue to be the Washington
Redskins until further notice. Now we got the good old
fun in factory in Cleveland. What guy with any history
wants to go and sign up for a year when
they basically go Harvey two faced Dent, flip a coin
(02:18:14):
and fire him a year later. Honestly, I'm not quite sure.
And when you look at the inconsistency, uh and how
quickly Jimmy hasm has pulled the trigger in terms of
firing head coaches, I don't know what coach would really
want to take on that job. But you also have
to wonder what the Cleveland Brown seriously consider a guy
like Lincoln Riley, knowing how close he is with Baker
Mayfield and not understating the value of that relationship. But
(02:18:37):
Cleveland's got to do a number of things. They have
talented pieces to build around, but I think John Dorsey
left them in a tough spot, too busy when you
about some of those shiny objects rather than building a
team that could actually coexist. After spot one through fifty three,
you can fall on Twitter at Todd Ferman, that is
at Todd Ferman. Check them out Monday through Friday on
Fox Sports Ones locking in Todd has always buddy, appreciated
(02:19:00):
my friend. We'll talk to you next week. Always a pleasure. Gents,
enjoy the great games this weekend. Hit him hard, Buddy,
Great stuff there from Todd Ferman. How about Josh McDaniels, Like,
as you said, spreading money. Look, we're gonna make him
the favorite everywhere because he's gonna interview with just about
all the teams. Well, that's where everybody is right now.
He is the legitimate favorite for for betters across the board,
(02:19:20):
like everybody wants a little little taste thinking he's probably
the best of the options. Because Matt rules the unknown.
He's down in Mexico right He just bailed on the thing.
He got a raise from Baylor and then he walked away.
Uh and certainly desirable. He's been linked with the Giants
for a while, perhaps with Carolina a little bit as well.
But who knows what direction Temper wants to go because
he still got to decide what he's doing at the
(02:19:41):
quarterback position. Twitter at how about a fresca? Mike has
swollen down. The Jason Smith Show with my best friend

Eight nine on Foxes the phone number got to play
the night Come in your way in a few minutes.
But we just got finished watching the Lakers victory over
(02:21:31):
the New Orleans Pelicans. And it was a game in
which the Lakers ran away with it at the end
of the third quarter, but they allow the Pelicans to
get back in it the fourth. It gets to be
an eight point game, but the Lakers put it away.
They win at one three one third team behind forty
six from Anthony Davis. Lebron goes for seventeen and fifteen assists,
(02:21:54):
Danny Green doing a lot of damage as well. He
scored twenty five in the game, huge from three point range.
But we spent a lot of time tonight talking about
brandon Ingram, Alonzo Ball and and and Josh Hart. It
was a trade that worked out for the Pelicans because
they're negotiating with one hand tied behind their backs, and
they got a rising ascending player in brandon Ingram, a
(02:22:14):
pretty good role players slash complimentary piece and Alonzo Ball
and look, Jason hard is playing pretty well too and
limited minutes, so this is pretty okay from the Pelicans standpoint. Obviously,
for the Lakers, this is huge. Anthony Davis has been
everything and the reason they're out to a and seven record.
The guys gonna get top of the line m VP votes.
(02:22:37):
But here's my one worry for the Lakers right now
as you're seeing them. Look, they got through their losing
streaking out here. There are winning games again. And even
Lebron will admit, ah, you know, we gotta get to
the fourth quarter of games. We're allowing teams to continue
to play and get back in the games. You gotta
finish games better. I'm not worried about that because this
is the NBA, right It's a regular season. Teams get bored,
(02:23:00):
I get it. But my one worry for the Lakers
are is this a regular season dominant team? Because when
you're playing the Lakers one out of a D two
and it's Lebron and Anthony David says, Okay, we're gonna
do our best here. But Lebron and A d have
such great rhythm and such great togetherness. You know, all right,
it's gonna be tough for us. But when you get
(02:23:21):
to the playoffs and you're playing a team that is
gonna fight you physically and play better defense on you
over the course of a seven game series, are the
Lakers flaws And by flaws, I mean not a good
enough bench and supporting cast gonna be exposed. If this
is the Lakers team that enters the playoffs. They can
lose in the second round like they can Western Conference Semis.
(02:23:43):
They can go out because Lebron and A D aren't
gonna be enough. This is why the trade deadline. I
fully expect them to have three big players that they
bring in rotation wise, that are gonna be bench guys,
are gonna give them offense, that are gonna turn them
into the elite of the elite where we can say
they have no weaknesses because they need more offense. Mike,
(02:24:03):
you can't cut around this that. Once you don't have
Lebron or a D on the floor, they're having big nights.
It's really hard to say, all right, what are we
gonna get consistently from JaVale McGee and Avery Bradley and
Kuzman is still trying to figure out his way and
he's still up and down. No, No, that's just it.
And who's my guy that's rumored in trade talks right,
not just because of the barber thing, because he's now
(02:24:25):
got a shaved head, as if it was a punishment
from Lebron James uh and a lot of jokes on
Twitter people were on fire tonight, most of which I
cannot read. On air, but they you also have the
trainer barber of last week, and Lebron was still pretty
salty about that. But you're you're talking about what do
you have in terms of discernible assets that you can
roll off into other pieces for this to make be
(02:24:49):
a championship squad. You've still got a lot of unknowns
in terms of your rotational and bench players. Danny Green
had a huge shooting night tonight, but can you bank
on that every night? No, it was the Pelicans. They
give up a lot of points. You're gonna have that. No,
and look he shot the ball well and it was
three point raine, so something they need. But they need
another shooter. I think everybody agrees to that. Dwight Howard,
(02:25:10):
you're wondering what it's gonna look like the second half
of the season. Even though he was excited for the
powder drop that Lebron James did the whole way drew
Holiday afterwards, he was running up to Anthony Davis hugging him.
I think he said, come get me bro So I think,
well that Harmon that was a lot more peaceful than
Alonzo and uh Kuzma's exchanged afterwards. That's making its ways
(02:25:31):
around whoa baby, Alonzo. Let's just say it was not
a love fest. Oh boy, Hey, I had to go
and you got to stay. I am not happy with that. Yeah.
Kus tried to go up and give him a hug
and a handshake. A Lonzo was not having it. Just
gotta look at it. Yeah, it's a quick, salty, quick,
little salty video. He went and he hugs Bradley and
(02:25:53):
pretty much everybody else and had some words. He wouldn't
even look in Kuzuma's general direction. No, I mean, I'm
trying to read his lips right now seeing the video.
Blank you blank you. He says, you should have been
with me in New Orleans. How do how you were
the chosen one? You know, Kuzma. Kuzma tries to stay
(02:26:14):
in front of Alonzo to get him to talk to him,
but you know, he puts his arm around him. A
Lonzo doesn't do anything. A Lonzo's completely looking in different ways.
He goes and hugs Avery Bradley. He's quickly trying to
find the next kind of slap. Yeah, and Kuzma walks
away laughing almost like, hey, I'm you know, I want
this to make it seem like it's a big joke,
but Alonzo clearly wants no part of anything with Kyle Kuzma.
(02:26:38):
Oh man drama and it didn't involve LaVar When did
he jump in? You didn't wear my dad's sneakers. Man,
I'm still man, thank you. And you were supposed to
help us out. We're supposed to wear him to the draft. Man.
I wish I could. I could read lips enough to see.
But the angle I'm looking at the only one we
have is Kuzma is kind of blocking him. After a
(02:27:00):
Lonzo says his first thing, Yeah, we don't get a
good uh lip reading, will work on it. The first
block of Cousma's career. Nicely done. Twitter it out about

Lakers TV on the call, Billy Mack forty six for
a d as the Lakers stroll by the New Orleans Pelicans,
(02:28:27):
and an update on what we talked about a few
minutes ago. The end of game handshake between Kyle Kuzma
and Lonzo ball A. Lonzo standing at mid court was
happy to shake hands with any Lakers teammate who walked
up to him, except for Kyle Kuzma. Wanted no part
of a congratulatory hug from him. Kuzma tried to hug him,
(02:28:47):
a Lonzo wouldn't even look him in the eye. Kuzma
tries to say a couple of things and a Lonzo
wouldn't say anything. Kuzma walks away kind of laughing, and
this is that quintessential you know, I'm just gonna tried
to save face and make it seem like it's not
that big a deal. But I guarantee you Kuza was
walking away going, dude, what the blank is up with
that guy? Man? What the why is he so mad
(02:29:08):
at me? Just because I got to stay and he
had to get traded, well, because he became the chosen one.
Lonzo was supposed to take over the city. Remember Magic
had his jersey and the rafters calling him one of
the gonna be one of the all time greats. And
he was the guy shuffled off as the main piece
in a trade to the Pelicans for you know, the
guy that will bring them to glory or seemingly alongside
(02:29:30):
Lebron James. Somehow Kuzma got to be that guy. He
got to be front and center. He was there emissary.
Right they sent him to the draft. Everything became about
Kyle Kuzma as the Big three. Talk in Los Angeles. Now,
maybe he's on the outs, maybe he gets traded. Referred
to the Shams Sharania from the Athletics um Report a
(02:29:50):
little bit earlier that multiple teams are kicking the tires
to see if the Lakers are willing to play ball
with that. But in the end, if you're a Lonzo ball,
you're salty because that cost you a a lot of
money getting kicked out of town. I can't wait to
see that. Get the post game just coming in. I'm
gonna have to go to Whitecastle and stop and listen
to the post game on my phone just to be
able to see what was said. I like this post
(02:30:12):
game from Alvin Gentry. Though we have what was said,
Yeah we do. Oh well, let's wait, wait, we have
the conversation. Here's what a Lonzo was telling who's going
a lot? Yeah he was pretty salty, brilliant, sad, Yeah, yeah,
very knowing a lot. That man a tissue that now
(02:30:40):
you're talking. Uh, let's finish things up by make giving
you our official picks for the a f C playoff
games this week. We gave the NFC Last Hour. I'm
like in both the upsets, in the end, you've got
the Bengals. I had the Bengals out of the A
Without Joe Burrow, I gonna have a big game you
(02:31:00):
just watch. I'll take Buffalo over Houston because I've seen
Houston throw up on themselves many times in this position.
I know my Texans, but Buffalo will find a way
to keep it low scoring and force turnovers. This is
what they do. They keep it close. They don't allow
a lot of points, and they make enough plays in
the passing game and you get a couple of backbreaking
(02:31:23):
runs by Josh Allen or a couple of short passes
that turn electric and it's just enough offense. The Bills
win this seventeen four team. Look, eventually they're gonna play
a team that's too good for them. But this is
what they do. They've kept it close all season long
against really good teams. Buffalo wins at yeak with Beasley
and John Brown, a little slants and crossing Pattie. You
(02:31:44):
mentioned Allan's legs, just enough to get it done boxing
one on DeAndre Hopkins. Buffalo wins. I'd like to pick
the Shocker, but I can't see Bill Belichick losing to
Ryan Tannehill. Even though they should be able to move
the football. They put up a lot of points, but
the misnomer that New England is terrible. They're still twelve
and four. They're playing at home. Bill Belichick is not
gonna lose to Ryan Tannell. I can't say it enough.
(02:32:07):
They're gonna lose eventually, but not this week. They love
enough to be Tennessee. I really thought you were gonna
go against him this week just to you know, dance
on a grave, because so many people have to pick them,
just because they want the Patriots to burn, almost like
the funeral pyre of Darth Vader that you watched your

gotta tell you Patriots, Wayne, Patriots cover Twitter at How
