listening to Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio Greetings, Happy Thursday.
Welcome inside the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Today Friday, no no, no, no. Well, you
know what, they are out of the playoffs, so maybe
he has the days a little weird, little screwy. That
could happen that way for Bill Belichim, and he could
(00:45):
treat every day like a Friday. Right now, No no
days off. Even when you lose it is Friday somewhere.
That doesn't mean you're taking the day off. It just
means that maybe you're a little slower, maybe maybe you
start a little later. Where's the where's the no days
off speech? After lose? Only at the no days off speech?
You have to win the Super Bowl? Hey, no days off?
Where's a no days off speech? For when you're out
(01:05):
of the playoffs. Did they work all week this week?
I mean outside of trying to figure out kick Tom
Brady out of New England Patriots. Well, I think there
were a lot of meetings of the do I have
to bring him back? Come on, Bob, we gotta do
this again. So there's there's a lot to be he
said about the week that was in Patriotville. By the way,
(01:26):
Bill Belichick was still working hard, right because he's doing
all that Hall of Fame voting stuffs and pizza eating
with Gil Brandon company. Yeah, he's gonna Gil brand hate
you there by by by extension, yeah, there's there. We
were watching a movie with an actor that hates me.
I wasn't shocked at all. But you know, last night
(01:50):
was the Justin Frostburg celebration day, his birthday. Today, I
figured you were you have you asked me. It came
straight in from the spyramid right now. You kept asking
me for more fives. I don't know. I don't know
why I gave you a few more. Hopefully you still
have him a couple of high fives. But today's high
five Today, high five Today is a big day, not
(02:11):
just you know, for us. But it's a big day
for everybody. And and and thank you for listening to the show. Uh,
this is now our six year anniversary. Yeah, all of
us doing the show together. Finished six years of yelling
and screaming and singing and bermin impressions, you know, you
and I and Frostburg and Tie Shirt and Lauren Gardner
(02:31):
for the first couple of years of this run. And
and uh, it's it's been some kind of it's been
a fast six years. I mean there's things that I'll
remember us talking about, going, man, that was four years ago.
That wasn't just last year we did that. That That was
four years ago. Okay, that was all right? That was
that was that long ago that happened. Okay, Yeah, about
wanting Tom Brady to leave the division for as long
as I've known you, Well, come on, that's back in
(02:53):
that's like two thousand and four. Yeah, but then you
know you were on me, Hey, this guy's gotta be done.
He's got to be done, isn't he. That's seven years
before we met A long time long are Jewish Journey
and and now and and it's weird for me because
now officially I have now now that we've hit the
six year mark, I have been doing this show longer
(03:13):
than I did All Night when I was on ES.
It's really how long did you do All Night? I
did All Night for five years and fifty one weeks.
I was a week shot when I left to go
to NFL Network. So I was just about to celebrate
my six year anniversary and NFL Network called and and
I wound up going there for three years doing TV
and it was really cool and I was glad, I
would you give him no no, no, no, no, what
(03:36):
he's done that on a couple of occasions reference people there,
they let's just say I as far as ESPN went, uh,
it was good that I left. And I think they
were at the time felt like, Okay, well, well now
we we can do different things with the time slot,
with with what they wanted to do, and um then
(03:57):
they realized, oh well that didn't work, and so now
they're back trying to figure out a new thing around it.
But UM, it was It's weird for me because just
like I said, it was just shy as six years
and I felt like I did that show for so
long and you know that that was two thousand five
through two thousand eleven. This has now been two thousand
fourteen through two thousand twenty, and it's just I feel
(04:18):
like that the time on this show, maybe because it's
still recent for me in here, it's still so much
it's just flown by. Like I said, things, I can't
believe it was four years ago. I thought was last year?
You know, I thought was you know, we did that
story a couple months ago, Jason, that was in July. Oh,
it was in July. Okay, that was that long. I
We're just getting I mean, that's the beauty of it was.
There's still new new venues and arenas to explore. May
(04:41):
we have the teams in l A? Philip Rivers is
probably not gonna be a Charger the quarterback. Hey, I mean,
what are you gonna bring met our anniversary show right away? No, no,
I wasn't trying to kill Frost from now. But it
was the point of being here in Los Angeles that
is gonna be one of the things that leaps forward
because we had been waiting for a team here in
l A. Otherwise, all you did was go watch the
(05:04):
Jets get their ass kicked down by the Charges a
few years ago. And yeah, I know, see positive memories
for you there, Why don't you just give us a
list of people who are dead? Just just go all
the way do your normal thing. That's six years and
dey can't even bring up that spreadsheet. Every just can
(05:24):
talk about people who are dead. Let's just you just
totally the idea that I had a spreadsheet and people
mean diet we came on air. Oh, I figured if
if people still did deadpools, you'd be doing one of them.
He's got ranking people still do people ranking? Ranking? Wow?
I mean we we celebrated you and and Elvis and
Bowie yesterday. It's a ten. If they had a really
(05:46):
really great run, had to have a good run. Well,
I'll tell you one thing. This conversation that we're having
right now, right that that's kind of fun, that that
treats things. This would never fly on ESPN. We could
never have this kind of conversation. They would say, what
are you doing? What are you doing talking about people
who could be dead? It's it's it's would have been
fired week one. It's so regimented there, and and and
(06:07):
the thing that I I learned, you know, leaving, is
that there's different rules for different people. Obviously, uh when
when we get Yeah, but Overaul taking my stuff, Oh yeah,
congratulate on the Michigan take. Uh. But overall, it's the ESPN.
When I left, I felt like it was time for
me to go because I've been doing all night for
(06:28):
a while and I was ready for something new. And
NFL Network came along and that was great for a
few years. But I don't feel that way now. I
feel like I got six years. I'm like, Okay, we
still have a lot of stuff to do, a lot
of fun stuff to talk about, and and and and
I'm still having a lot of fun coming in every night.
And it's it's definitely a different feel. I have six
year mark here that I had that now, had I
(06:50):
been able to have the freedom that we have here
from a company that doesn't care what I tweet as
long as I, you know, don't do stupid stuff. You
know that that that we can say what we want,
We can get outside the box at times when we're
talking sports, when we're outside of sports, and not have
to worry about the next day getting a phone call
going you know, you spent that time talking about a
(07:13):
non real sports sim like, what are you talking about?
We're having fun. People like to hear people on the
radio having fun, but that's not part of of what
they listen to and what they focus on. ESPN one
of the big things they always told me was have fun,
but don't have too much fun. I'm like, don't have
too much fun, really, so make make sure we we
stopped the fun. It was like, go to a party
(07:33):
and have fun, but don't have too much fun. Well,
going to a party, I mean people want to turn
on the radio and then want opinions. And obviously the
sports world has evolved and the hot take phenomenons in
the past few years and different things, but people still
like to turn the radio, want to hear people having
fun and having fun conversations and giving strong opinions and
entertaining and doing things you're not expecting. But that that's
(07:53):
just a different way to do things that seems antiquated.
And there's a lot of frustration for myself any many
people at you know, at ESPN when it was when
it was there, And I'll tell you I'll tell you
one story real Fest involves Dan Patrick that will kind
of illustrate some of the frustrations that was there that
I don't have now and This is not saying that
all my goodness because I'm here and getting paid the
(08:15):
world is great. No, No, this is I'm telling me
the truth because that's what I've done for the past
fifteen or eighteen years on the radio. I'll tell you
the truth is that there was one time where it
was a story about Cubs, something about the seventh inning stretch.
I forget what I'm going back that this is about
like twelve years ago now. There was a crazy story
about the Cubs and the seventh inning stretch. And I
(08:37):
did that for about five minutes at like five to
eleven one night, whatever it was, and it was a
fun story. It's cub seventh inning stretch, and it was
something that it wasn't really was kind of tangentially about.
It was like whoever was doing the seventh inn was
whatever it was, and it was kind of fun. And
so the next day I have a meeting a uh,
(08:58):
I would do an air check meeting like once a
month with my bosses. They would listen to when we
listened to an hour of the show, and they would say, Okay,
this was good. This wasn't all this stuff. And the
funny thing is is that day you know, Dan Patrick
when his show was still on ESPN, he did the
same topic. I mean he did. We both did different things,
but he did the same thing. Was a fun seventh
inning stretch thing, and he did, you know, he did
(09:19):
his thing with the topic, and I did my thing
on the topic. And when we were listening, and my
boss at the time, who now no longer is the
boss there, uh said to me, yeah, you know, you
spent that five minutes here. I then you weren't really
doing sports. I got I was doing the seventh inning
stretch topic for yeah, but it wasn't really sports. You
kind of you kind of got out of sports. I go.
(09:41):
But you didn't think that was a good top He was, No, No,
nobody else did it today. Nobody else did it today,
and and and nobody else. Said I'm like okay, I'm like,
all right, fine, And I didn't know that Dan had
done this at this point, and I said, okay. It
was a ridiculous answer. And it was an answer from
a boss who just talks to ten people in the
focus group and then here's something and comes and then
that's the law, which is what ESPN does. Tend people
(10:01):
tend lunatics with dials in their hands really programmed the network.
So I'm like, okay, fine, I couldn't. I couldn't do
it right, I couldn't do that start. So I get
done and my immediate manager calls me right after the
meeting and says, I'm so sorry about that. I said,
what do you mean. He goes, you can't tell anybody
the story, and I said, okay, but now I can
tell it, because you know what do I care? I said,
(10:21):
I have him. They did an air check on Dan
Patrick show earlier in the day, right, they did, because
they schedule these air check things, and that was the
segment they played where Dan did that topic and my
boss told him, all that was really fun you getting
out of the out of the box and doing that topic.
So getting out of the box, so that topic he
was okay doing that time. Of course he was okay
(10:43):
doing that topic. You know, Dan does a great show
and it's funny. It was. It was really fun thing
he did. But I'm like, wait a minute. So it
was okay for him to do that topic and it
was great, got time, but me doing it and it was, yeah,
I don't, I wouldn't do that, and it was it
was so frustrating because there were shows there that and
everybody understands there shows that that that gets things that
(11:04):
other other shows don't. But just the fact that they
they felt like they couldn't really do anything with the
big daytime shows, so they overmanaged and micro managed all
the shows from like noon on. And I was like,
I walked away from that meeting going, I'm never gonna
win here. I'm really I'm never gonna win here. How
quick would this show have been off the air with
the three of us at ESPN, Oh, they would. They
(11:25):
would have been meetings and meetings every week. All right,
you guys, this was good, This was good, but that
but that's the difference. And and it was it's a
new world when you get to go someplace and not
have to worry about what you're doing. And and and
a boss, because they want to justify their jobs write
an email. The next day, I was listening to Jason,
who did bah bah bah bah bah bah bah blah.
(11:46):
I mean, look, I'll tell you another story. I'll tell
you about our boss, Scott Shapiro, who came from ESPN
and I knew him at ESPN, right, Yeah, he's he's
the guy that bought the Kyle Rudolph gloves by as
long as he was the guy that bought him and
didn't oh, I thought he was the meeting a guy.
The best thing is he listens to our show every night, right,
he listens to all the shows on the network. And
he's a phenomenal manager. And you know at ESPN, you
(12:10):
there were certain words didn't like you to say, Like
if you said sucks or asked, they would go, oh,
don't say that, don't say that, don't say that. It's
like okay, but it's just yeah, but the words overnight
why not? Yeah, well it was just anytime any time
on the network, they're like, oh, you know, don't say it.
Don't say it's like it's that that that hurts the brand?
What if it really stunk? Like yeah, but what if
(12:32):
what if a team really sucked? What am I gonna
say about the jets? They suck? In theory, we're supposed
to be in the vernacular and speech and patterns of
those that are listening, right, And I mean that isn't
that the idea? Here? I like, this is how you talk,
you know, this is how this is how I talk.
I talked the same way off the air that I
do on the air, except with less Jerry Jones impressions.
I mean, there's also a few four letter words. I mean,
(12:54):
there's still some radio radio rules that we have to follow.
But you get the point. But one time we were
doing a topic. I forget what it was and I
and I said, and I said, oh my god, I
said that play, that play was just that. That play
was just asked or something like that. I said, And
Shapiro was listening, was I don't know about that. He
was getting ready to like text text me or text
(13:15):
justin goes wait, wait, wait, wait, I don't i don't
work at ESPN anymore. I'm at Fox. This is okay,
this is all right. And he told me that sort
of The next thing is I really was, I'm so
conditioned to this is what what they know? This and
no on this and no on this and no on this,
and I was ready to go, oh, I don't know,
and then it's like then he then he said, oh wait,
and I realized we have to worry about that, and
it's okay. Well, we wouldn't have anyway. You would have
(13:37):
hung up on him, You would hung up on no.
There's that that possibility. Wait six six, one two? What
so so this is our sixth year anniversary and I
will tell fun stories throughout the night. Tonight I have
a run. We're just getting started phase two. I think
one of my favorite stories the first night I met
Harmon and and he was wearing something I haven't seen
(14:00):
him where it since, but he was no yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
I was stunned when I I had a completely different
opinion of Mike Carmen, like after we're working together a week,
and then I did before when we when we met.
We'll get to that, but coming up next day, we
got a big weekend in the National Football League. It
looks like Tara Owens might have been right and onto
something when earlier today he said, hey, you know the
(14:22):
Cowboys should sign Tom Brady. I don't think they're all
in on doc. We'll get to that coming up next.
You got Jake Lazer on the way as well. This
is Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app. Oh yeah, we're all
(14:43):
getting drunk on the air. Tonight. Not really. We're all
so getting drunk on the air tonight. So you're having
one michelob Ultra and say, you know, I used to
drink michelob Ultra has a round. You know. Back when
I was in this, I forgot I was doing a
diet and I was like, oh, michelob Ultra, it's it's
less calories, it's less cars. I drank seven of them
and I'm right back to base like I'm not gonna
(15:04):
do this. That was when I made that push, going, oh,
if I drink diet coke and rum, it's only like
eighty three calories and drink I'm like, oh, I'll have that.
That's great. I was like, what am I? What am I?
You have? You know? Four? Yeah, seeing how you've But
I've always been a beer guy. I've always been a
beer guy. But I will say this change in my
life between six years at ESPN Radio now six years
(15:26):
now or six year anniversary tonight here Mike and I
here at Fox. Is that now my default beer, which
used to be Corps Light back in the day, now
it's either Core's Light or MODELO. MODELO is pretty good.
I gotta say I was really surprised. How about because
the guys I coached uh soccer with and saft with
(15:47):
when we go they all drink model Oh I mean
not during the games, maybe something during the games and
we go out after a modella, I'm like, oh wow,
that's an ice co that's really good. Another one of
these modela or Dragon's milk? Those are those are not
even beers, that's that's fake. Dragon's milk is something they
have on Game of Thrones, but dragons bilt. Dragon's milk
(16:10):
is madela, but just a nice swaky bottle that says
it's dragon's milk. Have it? Give me an old riskputing
from the town and their sputing is a good way
to go to. And I'm gonna have something called sat
tire because it sounds like flat tired and everybody's gonna
buy it. And then I'm gonna put a picture of
a orange on it and give the guy a mohawk
and people are gonna drink that beer too because it
looks cool because I'm drinking a beer with a guy
with a mohawk shark orange. Yeah see, I really thought
(16:32):
that guy was just an extension and McDonald should have
sued for ripping them off of MAC Tonight. It's MC tonight. Uh,
so it's inevitable. I guess you could say that. One
of the big topics we're gonna cover tonight on the
show had to do with someone who joined us on
our first show six years ago on Fox Sports Radio.
(16:54):
Tarrell Owens. T O was on our first show as
a guest. Warren Moon was on our first show as
a gas. He hates us now though, Uh, We've reached
out to Teo a couple of times and he said
he of Hall of Famer. I mean, he may have
been mocked for some of his actions leading up to it.
But after Teo was on our first show, Warren Moon
(17:14):
and somebody else. We had three guests on our first
show as t O, Warren Moon, and somebody else. I
can't I can't remember. The other one was h might
even my dad, who knows anyway, So he became a character.
Much later on, TiO decides to weigh in on Tom
Brady because Tom Brady is the topic to you're in
the NFL. Where should Tom Brady go? Should he stay
with the Patriot, should he go someplace else? Well it's
kind of laughable, right, considering that the NFL Division playoff
(17:38):
weekend is normally called the greatest weekend in football, right
because you also, you know, wrap your arms around the
college football championship game, so it's always this is the
greatest thing this week. Nope, hiring televangelists masquerading his NFL
coaches and Tom Brady. You know, you can't control the
(17:59):
news cycle, a newsie, this is what people want to hear,
and okay, we're read and react. But t O says
that it does a big interview that's making the rounds
and going viral, that the Cowboys should go after Tom Brady,
that they clearly don't believe in Dak Prescott and they
should go get Brady. This isn't as bad an idea
(18:21):
as you think it is, because you're naive if you
think there aren't gonna be crazy teams who are gonna emerge.
When Tom Brady says, okay, it's free agency time, I'm
taking tours, right, we told you he's leaving New England.
But what teams are actually going to wind up signing him?
Obviously he's been linked to the charges for a long
time and rightfully so. But way do you see the
(18:44):
crazy teams that are gonna say, hey, wait a minute,
come talk to us. Teams with established quarterbacks, teams you
think wouldn't go after Tom Brady, but their trust me.
There's gonna be crazy teams that you think there's no
way they're gonna upset their apple card for Tom Brady,
that are gonna say, yuck to come to us. We're
gonna talk a four year deal with you. You want
to play to you, You got it with us. There
(19:05):
will be crazy teams involved. And whether whether whether it's
the Dallas Cowboys or not, it's it's going to be
that you're gonna hear three or four teams ago, oh
my goodness. Really, and now whether or not those visits
come to fruition, because if Tom Brady says, listen, I'm
not interested here, they're gonna have teams have to play
it off. They have to tell their and coming quarterback. Hey,
there's nothing true to that story. So you know Brady
(19:27):
holds all the cards obviously, but you are going to
hear some crazy teams that they're gonna wind up coming
out and said, yep, Tom come to us. Yeah, I
mean we come right Related to how negotiations, discussions, whatever,
the back and forth is with Kraft, Belichick and Brady
that's still gonna be there. And then you have I mean,
you look at Cleveland, if McDaniels goes there, from reports,
(19:48):
their relationship was frosty, not frosty anymore. So maybe you
know they push Baker Mayfield out to pasture. I'm frosty.
I'm not frosty. I'm frosty. I'm not frosty. Nicely donego.
You got the Chargers, of course, Dallas because they didn't
pay Dak Prescott that all year to do it. He
(20:09):
threw for almost five thousand yards. They didn't bother, Right,
we just Dak's gonna sit out for a couple We're
gonna keep him and pay him, but he's just gonna
sit out for a couple of years and then take
over again after Tom has done well. But that's the
thing now, is they actually have to pay him. He
got paid nothing for all these years. I mean, I'm
MARII Cooper, is he coming back? Because if so, if
(20:31):
you're hitting market rate, we're talking seventeen million dollars for him.
Michael Gallup was your better receiver this year. He was
your more consistent option. You go through there, how about Miami. Well, right,
but then here's the thing. Then there's there's there's what
we're not considering because everybody has come from the angle
of what teams can offer Tom Brady the most, right
and and and you're talking perspective. Certainly there's gonna be
(20:54):
stuff from his perspective. He needs to join a ready
made team. Okay, great, we know that. But what he
also needs to join a team that can get to
the playoffs every year, which means he's got to look
at the weakest divisions in football, because, hey, as good
as he's been, the a f C East has been
a crappy division for the past fifteen years because they've
been able no matter what kind of talent they have,
(21:16):
they have won it every single year. And it's something
people cry about all the time. Right, Nobody bothered to
cry about that with Peyton Manning uh and Tony did
in the South which stuck and and to a degree,
I mean there's been no consistency from the other three
teams in the NFC South. When we talk about Drew
brees is run, which we did on Monday night, Thanks
(21:37):
for listening all. But you think about that that Brady needs.
He's got four years to try to win Super Bowls.
He's got to make sure and ensure that he gets
to the playoffs. Is it gonna be worth it trying
to do that in the A f C Central, you know,
with or the f C f C North with with Pittsburgh. No,
with with the race and Baltimore not going there right,
(21:59):
not that he would, but you have to realize that
all these some of these divisions are loaded. So one
of the two weakest divisions A f C South NFC East,
So I t o s idea of A. It may
not be the Cowboys, but it could be a different team. Hey,
would you be surprised if the Giant suddenly said, hey, wait, wait,
Tom Brady's coming. We got Joe Judge, Daniel Jones. You're great,
but you sit behind Tom Brady. Tom wants to come
(22:20):
to New York. Gazel is gonna love New York. Now
Tom Brady's I mean, that's where he's gotta go. Think
about that. He's got to win the division to get
to the playoffs. And what's the path of least resistance
divisions that stink. So from Brady's perspective, that's something that's
really really important. I enjoy that one. Tom Brady goes
to the only team to vanquish him twice, it wouldn't
be awesome, right, trust me? For the oft injured Carson
(22:45):
wins Twitter at how about a Fresco Mike and swollen Dome.
We got Jay Glazer on the way all the big
news in the National Football League, what is next for
Tom Brady? And and what's al Pacino like in person?
But first, be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith's Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific. Joining us Now, I'm the hotline, a
(23:07):
man who we're gonna talk inside NFL things with. But
what I think I want to start with is by
asking Jake Glazer, Dude, you're hanging out with Stallone and
Pacino and guy Fiery. I mean, where's our invitation to
coming out with you guys? I want to this story
coh weeks ago, Colone, you've posted it now again, and
(23:27):
you know he's been up working on like nineteen Rambos
a few weeks ago. When I brought so don't call
me and he said, hey, you wanna come and watch
Joshua fighting my house? I'm like, uh, yeah, dude, you're Rocky. Sure, yeah,
any chance your friend Guy Freerry even town because my
brothers don't care a lit about Rocky Ramble, but they
(23:49):
love Garners, drives and dots. I asked going out to
weird dinner that night where I put together cool you know,
like I put together crazy communities. And so I'll go
to night here in l a at uh place named Isabel.
My buddy Bill Howard's plays Hell is going out with me,
Guy Fiery, Dave Batista, Michael McCarthy, Michael Strahan, my Little Fighter,
(24:14):
Aba Knight, and Nate Bowyer. Ok. Yeah, crazy there, right, bizarre.
So then I said, yeah, I'm actually gonna go to
a Kaye tonight me. So he goes, oh my gosh,
So I call a guy. I told m tell me
you love me. He goes, I love you. I gonna
tell me you love me. He says, why I love you?
Said because he wants to up you. Come, want to come,
want to fight this out tomorrow. He goes, Oh my gosh,
(24:35):
I'm supposed to go home and uh, I'm doing this
Food Network show. Let me come, my wife. She calls
his wife and shows, let me let me get this straight.
Do you have a chance to go with Glazer to
watch a boxing match at Stallone's house with Rocky at
its Austermark And he said yeah. She says you're an
idiot if you come home tonight. So he tells me,
(24:56):
hey fight out for Stallan. Who's the guy? I'm gonna
come cook and I'll make his daughters my shoxh chefs.
To find out who's coming, to give me the guest
list and I'll cook it. So I called Stone up.
I said, hey, listen, and I don't Stallone sply he's
come to Unbreakable. Uh love him. He's great. He's hilarious.
Obviously he's Rocky and you know uh Ben Rambo and
(25:17):
he's hilarious. We love him so great for the Unbreakable
performance culture. So um, so I called him and said, hey, guys,
gonna come be the shox chef, bring a bunch of
food and he goes, le do you hope to do that?
I'm just gonna get uh Bulbary Street pizza and cold cuts.
I'm like, dude, guy Ferry Coney Wholes for not having
bulbary feet pizza cold cuts coming out? I said, how
(25:37):
many people a is he cooking for he's gonna bring fruit.
He goes on, it's me you guy, Pucino, Schwartz and eggers, sugar,
Ray Leather. I'm like, get the hell out of here.
And then I called Stray and I go, look, you're
taking meat every day, you know, all the Oscar stuff.
So I'm gonna take you here. And then a rocky
(25:59):
st at you at the end of it in Trinity Pool,
like straight, we'll take a picture of you, and straight
and pulled me aside. He goes there, you pulled up
some stuff before in the past, but nothing like this,
And like, trust me, dude, I know, Like, mom, how
the heck did I get here? And guy ends up
bringing about six thousand dollars in Kobe beef that he
cooked and a thousand dollars from white and then and
(26:21):
then David Blaine came over and did magic for everybody.
Well that sounds like a night. Hey, I've got no
idea what called on my Instagram? I have a bunch
of stuff on there. I have no one to watch
the loan decide tonight to post it. I just uh,
I just texted him something about it too. No idea,
(26:43):
why next time that happens. If Guy has to stay,
I can go host guys grocery games because I watch
every episode, all right. I can host Trouble. I could
do meals from the middle, whatever you want. My friends
and I were all morons, as you can tell. But
you know we work our bucks off the world. That's
where I pre shoot him. Whatever you want to say
about Guy Fire, he outworks the world, works everybody, which
(27:04):
is why he is where he is. And it's as
genuine as to be. He takes me in the public
beach PONTI last two years ago, and I think he's like,
i'mna taking you my favorite bar ever. And we land
our favorite restaurant. It's a private clubs a great place
and it's literally like the raccooned lots from the Honeymoon.
It's the goodest dump you've ever seen. And he was
(27:26):
like how great is this place? And then the server
like mister brow and slitz and like I'm dead, sir,
And I was his spot. He loved it, his place.
That's him. Jay Glazer with us here the Jason Smith
Show in Mike Carmen that I don't know where to
go with it. We gotta talk football now. We can't.
We can't get pat with I mean, that's like a
(27:46):
drop the mic moment for you. Um, so again, check
out you on Instagram, on Twitter and stallone on Instagram
posting all this stuff right now, uh, from the past
couple of weeks. All right, so football wise, ja obviously,
I mean, I'm just thinking about guy, but Tom Brady,
everybody's weighing in. He puts out the post speaking of
Instagram yesterday, basically thanking the fans for all his time
(28:07):
in New England. Where are things right now as far
as Brady the Patriots in their relationship, Well, I think
that you know, this is the first time he's ever
free because they can't. He's only keep her hometown discounts,
and I don't think he wants to give a hometown
discount this time. I think all these years he's like, yo,
what I've always done right by them? Let them do
right by me now. Um. And you know he's always
(28:29):
been certainly not the whole yet he should be. Um,
they can't franchise tag him, so he is, without a
doubt and unrestricted free agent if they don't re sign him.
But you know, I think people some people said, well,
you know, he can go somewhere with Josh Daniels. Well,
there was only one place without a quarterback in that Panthers.
(28:49):
It's not They're not going to go to Cleveland and
get rid of Baker, Okay, if Josh Duniels goes there.
So the only thing I could see is, you know,
I think we've all heard it. A team like the Chargers,
we need to boost their attendance. A team like the Raiders,
if they go to Vegas, they sell those seats. Makes
an awful lot of sense. You said to him, Tom, uh,
(29:10):
you tell us what the offenses, and here's the checkbook,
and you fill it out, and just however many comments
you want to put in there, you put in there.
And he still, I mean, Tom Brady is still if
that'll be one of the biggest draws we've ever seen. Now,
and let me just put it in a little perspective here.
When Peyton Manning was a free agent, the reason why
he chose the Broncos or Brothers one was the relationship
(29:32):
with John fox and two because they were compient buddies.
It wasn't it was him and Foxy and and too
um the other teams. I remember winning the Titans and
then the offense commit them like Chris Palmer's And he said, Peyton,
here's the offense you want to you know, take a
look at this study up in the swe defense. And
(29:53):
Peyton was trying to remember we have at that point
for the next and he went into the Broncos and
Bronco said, hey, we know you put a hundred percent
everything you do, so we're assuming you're gonna put into
your rehab. So you tell us what the offense is.
We don't need you to spend any time learning a
new offense. And that's what Peyton needs to hear. Yes,
like I said, all my time we have and getting
(30:13):
myself right, I know the offense. So whoever takes Tom
Brady really should consider doing the exact same thing. Well
as we we'll have the quarterback carousel spinning. But the
coaching stop you mentioned Cleveland, that's the last one with
an opening. Is McDaniel's gonna end up being the guy?
How wide open is their net because they're not competing
with anybody anymore. They are over the map, and it's
(30:37):
it's by the day, by the hour, by the minute.
You know. When some candidates went in there, they have
a list of about twelve now, I think general manager
candidates to two candidates about that and you we're gonna
have to help you pick up the gm um And
then other guys went in there and Bata show on
the list. So they constantly or you know, talking to
(30:59):
teams that you want to your guys for GMS and
they're saying, wow, we don't. They're all over the place.
There's not they don't have a direction, they don't have
a conviction of what they want to do, and I
think that's been the problem with the Browns for a
long time. You can follow on Twitter at jay Glazer.
That is at jay Glazer. Uh maybe the new Twitter account,
the Adventures of Jay Glazer. That's gonna be a reality show.
(31:21):
We're working on that also at Unbreakable checkout vets and
players dot org. J as always man appreciate it. Uh
sayid a guy for me. We'll talk to you next way.
And happy birthday to night of course, Jake care j
what I mean what he's going through the list of
people going to dinner. It's like, here's just a random
list of some of the biggest celebrities in the world.
And stallone and stray Hand and Pacino and Schwarzenegger and
(31:45):
Nate Boyer. I just remember when he put that the
picture first showed up on his Instagram. You and I
were sitting here and coming, all right, let's pick out
all the faces right right like he was. He went
he was hanging out with Stallone, but now Stallone's posting
the pictures tonight of all of them when they all
met and were like all these people, and he told us,
I mean many a story of Guy Fieri and their adventures.
(32:07):
I remember meeting him at a Super Bowl event years
ago and we stood there and talked for like twenty
minutes because he's he's a big football fan and he's
there to talk like because he wants to be cooked
for the Raiders in the in the preseason, he went
to training cab, he cooked for the rain and he
had that fantastic show. Part of it, I think came
off of our discussion was the tailgate show that he
did for about two years, which I think would be
(32:28):
interesting to see if they could revisit that concept Twitter
at how about a fresca phenomenal stuff from Jake Glazier.
If he missed any of the interview, We're gonna post
it up at Fox Sports Radio on Twitter as well
pretty soon and at Fox Sports Radio dot com. But
coming up next as we celebrate our six year anniversaries,
because only weekend with that great interview from Jake Glazer,
friend of the show, how about we tell you what
quarterback is under the most pressure to win this weekend
(32:52):
in the NFL. That's coming up next on Fox is
it Drew Brees? He's still on hold. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
harm In weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app
Fox Sports Radio. That Jason Smith Show with my bist
friend Mike Harmon, as we celebrate six years together on
(33:14):
the air tonight one two, three, four five way, don't
you hear whose name is being bandied about for a
new coaching job in the NFL? We got that coming
up in a little bit less than ten minutes from now.
How about that next level? I almost text you today
tight shirt because one of those things my wife was
looking at it. Every time she gets up in the morning,
(33:35):
gets on the computer, she'll leave something funny for me
to look at. Hey, take a look at this, and
somebody put together a whole bunch of uh prom pictures
of stars before they were stars, and one of them
was John Stamos, who looks exactly like he does now.
He just had bigger hair. Said bigger, Yeah, said bigger hair.
You should just send me the picture. What about glorious?
He had Tina Turner thunderdome size hair, didn't he in another?
(34:01):
Yeah it was. It was big. It was pointy too,
that's like not yet big pointy like it was like
a like a porcupines quills a lot of a lot
of products in there, bump into somebody. It's if you
go to the club, that's how you guarantee you've got
some space if you're down front. Oh that's true. Yeah, yeah,
you're right. Folks might be able to check up on
the elbows and back at all, but they get one
(34:22):
hit from that hair. It's done. One hit from the hair.
You're done with a sacral contusion. Well, that's a whole
other thing that you just anybody that remembers what a
sacral contusion is. You really painted a picture right there,
and that was so two days ago with a d
this week in the NFL. This is as you say
(34:44):
what many people say, this is the biggest week because
you have the cream of the crop is rising. We
still have four games. It's the best eight teams left.
The pretenders have been dismissed. Wild Card weekend and of
the four games, the quarterback under the most pressure to
win this weekend and it's not even close is Aaron Rodgers.
(35:09):
No doubt about it. It's hard to even question it.
I think because of a guy that rivals him is Jimmy, right,
because of the expectations young, but Jenny is young and
and and that's the thing. All the most of these
most of the other quarterbacks, they're either young, Houston, Kansas City, Baltimore,
San Francisco. You know, they're all in their early twenties
(35:32):
and it's been playing. You know, they're all so they
have a lot of time, or they've achieved already, like
Russell Wilson, or there are players you don't expect much
from Ryan Tannehill, Kirk Cousins. It's like found money for
these guys. Well, if kirk Cousins plays crappy, it's Kirk Cousins.
If kirk Cousins plays grets hey, look that's awesome. Look
he put two together, like he's finally arrived. All those
(35:53):
franchise tags and the big contract and spurning and mocking
the Jets, it all made sense and built to this.
I mean for Tannehill, it's if the guy throws for
a hundred yards, is a great game. Want to talk
about a guy that came in, like when he got
inserted from Marcus Mariota, the greatest situation you could possibly
have as a quarterback. Right, you performed pretty well, Like
(36:16):
he didn't have to be one seventeen on the quarterback rating,
but all he had to do was be adequate. And
you're talking about another five years as a backup, maybe
never taking another hit, right, ball cap, clipboard, whatever else,
career secured. Now we're talking he's gonna get a massive contract,
franchise tag, or whatever the Titans decided to do based
(36:37):
on the showing. He's been playing with house money the
whole time. Yeah, so you you If he has a
great game, it's boys. If not, it's well, he's Ryan Tannell.
He's one game away from being back to well what
he expect. It's Ryan Tannell. He had a great run,
all right, He's back to that. But Aaron Rodgers because
of the combination of time running out and the question
is he still elite? Right? Because now this year, clearly,
(37:00):
as we've talked about, the Packers are Aaron Jones driven.
When he plays well, the Packers win. Right, It's like
Elway getting Terrell Davis at the end of his career.
But Rodgers and one once as good as he is.
And now the questions of was he really a Pro
Bowl player this year? How much is he losing? Didn't
have a lot of three yard games? If he loses?
The number one topic of conversation Monday morning, whether it's
(37:23):
on undisputed, speak for yourself, whatever it is is gonna be.
Is Aaron Rodgers still elite? Ask yourself? Is that's good
for the company? Is Aaron Rodgers still? I guarantee that's
the number one topic of conversation. If the Packers loses,
Aaron Rodgers still great. Nobody under more pressure than Aaron
Rodgers because he knows the storyline after it's done. Also,
(37:45):
how many more years is he gonna have home field
advantage in one round of the playoffs and have a
week off? I mean, there's only a finite amount of
time him to do that. And so those combinations, Aaron Rodgers,
most pressure everybody else is under is a teeny and
won a lot of games, and rarely do we get
to this point in the season, at the end of
a regular season and even into the divisional round of
(38:06):
the cliffs, where you're going, I don't know what to expect,
and really we don't know what to expect from either
of these teams, especially if the weather holds right, because
seeing some reports that you might get up to a
foot of snow by Sunday Sunday afternoon in Green Bay,
so add that element to it. But you don't have
receiving weapons that you trust. You've got Davante Adams, and
(38:27):
it's really the run game that's gotten done. The defense
questions all year as to how good they really are.
I mean, it's two teams that the metrics say should
have been nine winning teams and here they are battling
in the second round. So but for Aaron Rodgers, sure,
I mean, if we're gonna talk about age and the
cliff and where you dive off, touchdown interception ratio clearly
(38:47):
doesn't apply, right because everybody's buried Tom Brady, So why
don't we do the same thing for Aaron Rodgers. And
that's what we'll do on Sunday after they lose. How
it's gonna be Aaron Rodgers most pressure everybody else. Second
to Jason Smith Show with my Carmen coming up next.
Way do we tell you who could be on his
way back in the National Football League? Plus what Harmon
was like the very first night I met him. That's
(39:09):
coming up next right here on Fox. That is right.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. Gratings. Welcome inside The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmony. We have an NBA story
coming your way in twenty minutes. That is the story.
(39:30):
You didn't know you need it tonight, but we absolutely
need and deserve. It is fan to It is NBA fantastic.
You want to talk about just do a show about this.
This is one of us. You can spin this off
NBA TV whatever you wanna do. You want to make
it a streaming platform, this is brilliant. We have the
(39:52):
NFL coming up in a couple of minutes. Way do
you figure out and we tell you who could be
on his way back to the NFL after a short exile.
But tonight, as we mentioned in the first hour of
the show, Big night for us. It is ours six
year anniversary, you and I doing this show together now
for six years officially. Now I've been doing this show
longer than I did All Night on ESPN Radio. Was
(40:14):
just sh I have like five years and fifty one
weeks uh at All Night and now six full years
here at Fox. Was it like playing time at you know,
when you're talking about snap counts and everything else where
you're gonna get a roster bonus and they, oh, no, no,
fix the glitch? No when When? Because NFL Network reached
out to me about hosting Fantasy Live, And at that
(40:36):
point it was a great change for me because I
had been doing All Night for a long time and
I needed something else, and you know, it came up
and it was great, and it just so happened that
it came up right before the season started. And my
anniversary date on on ESPN was actually was nine eleven.
It's crazy, and I left, like my last day doing
All Night was like the fifth or the sixth, So
(40:58):
I was like just three or like five days short
of six full years at All Night, and now celebrating
six full years here, I'm like, wow, so actually we passed.
I passed All Night a week ago, but now tonight
being our six year anniversary, it's really weird to think
because I'm I'm in a different place mentally now than
I was then where I needed a break then and
I was so glad that that came along, whereas now
(41:19):
I feel like we're continuing to roll off and and
and doing great content. And you know, we got the podcast,
new podcast that we're doing special teams out there, and
and uh, it's been a great ride coming in every
night with you and Frostburg and tie Shirt and uh
and and everybody here and Brian Fenley and and all
the guys who you know come in and everybody who
edits in the back. Uh, you know, all the hard
workers there and everyone. It's it's awesome. Um. But let
(41:43):
me just tell you this story. The first night I
met Mike Harmon, a much different person after I knew
him for a week than the first night I met him.
These calves were the same. Yeah, spectacular. I can hardly
contain him in these sweatpants now. And I know if
I ever told you this part of the story. When
I was hired, they hired me to do to to
(42:07):
do the show. Yeah, there was a little bit of
stuff that we Yeah, they hired. They hired me to
do to do the show. And then when our old
boss who hired me said, hey, there's a couple of
people that I think I compare. You know, what do
you wanted? Do you want to do a show solo?
Do you want to do a show with somebody? I said, well,
I kind of did the solo show. I said, I
really want to stretch my wings and have fun and
(42:27):
do a lot of crazy stuff. I'd like to do
the show with somebody and have a partner. You wanted
to fly and I said, And I said, so, here's
my list of people, Beyonce, Christina Hendrix and so I said,
I said, that's what I like. And he said, you know,
there's a guy here that I really think could do
well with you, and it's Mike Harmon. And I said, okay.
(42:48):
I said, I don't really know him but a little bit,
and uh, you know that's fine. So I listened to
Heart a little bit on the weekend. I gotta yeah,
I gotta pull back to Kurton here. Okay, your first
request was not what you said it was. What was it?
What was my first request? I remember the fourth floor
conversation clearly. Okay, you asked for Alie Hayes. Oh that's right, yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's right. Was Alie Hayes. Alie Hayes. They reached out
(43:11):
how old was Aliet? Now I don't know that I did.
I really know who Allie Hayes was. Six years I don't.
I don't. Yeah, you already don't think touching that, and
don't think of my wife. And I drive through Redlands,
I don't look around and see if maybe Alie has
(43:31):
back and down. Just go down the street. Man, that's
really odd that I go to the gym across the street.
I know where Alie Hayes is from, so it's not anyway.
So they said, you know, my car is all right, great,
And then I just happened to you know, the the
official announcement was going to come in a couple of days,
and I told I told our boss said listen, yeah,
I said, I think Harmon's great. I think that'll work
(43:52):
out fine. And so like two nights before it was official,
I come in. I was filling in on a different show.
And I see you here and I go, oh, this
is awkward. And you're standing outside the studio and you're
wearing a suit and tie. Oh yeah. And he's in
a complete suit and tie. And he's got a box
of Macarons that he's handing out to people here. Try this.
(44:14):
I thought it was macarons, but they say macaron. No,
it's macaronswis. But on Food Network they say macarons, macarons, macarons, okay.
And he's handing out Matt and he goes, here, what
would you like a macaron? I said, sure, I'm Jason. Yeah,
I'm Mike Carmon, a great and we're talking and and
and we're talking about things. I'm like, I can't say
anything to him. And see a couple of really feel
really weird. And I said, you know, how do you
like stuff going on here? And you said, oh, yeah,
(44:36):
I like doing I really wish I could do more,
you know, but I really like doing what I'm doing here.
And so I'm like, all right, let me. I said, well,
you know what, just keep those positive thoughts. Good things
may happen. I remember, I remember, I remember vividly saying
that to you, But the suit's gotta go that I
walked away, and I'm like, and he can't come in
wearing his suit and tie every night? Come on, man,
this is I like, I wear sweats and sweatshirt and
you can't come in wearing a suit and tie. But
(44:58):
I've never seen you in any thing other than sweats
or shorts and pants and I'm sorry and sneakers, Like,
you've never seen me in anything other than that in
the last six years. Why the hell were you here?
Where suit and tie? That's a really good question. Uh.
The answer is I don't know. Um, I have other
recollections of how I showed up on the show? Did you?
(45:20):
Did you? Obviously? Were you? I didn't have a court dat. No,
I haven't had one of those coming from the pyramid
Rhino I might have. I mean, you got a dressed
for success. I really want to press the ladies smell
like money. I don't have a job, but I want
to look like I have a job. Someone to wear
suits my oldest it's like the guys and step brothers
(45:41):
going to their thing in tuxedos. I debated that made
for our anniversary show. I debated that for a moment,
I really looked at one of those tuxedo t shirts
that they sell and said, nah, it's a wasted money
and just pushed that back onto the rack. But yeah,
and long, long, strange road it's been. I really don't
(46:02):
know why I would have been in a I don't know.
I don't know why you were giving away macarons. Macaroons,
but I don't know why you were giving them away.
You had a big boxing and everybody it was part
of his stick back down. He would bring us good.
He's when he would come in and hang out with
us for ten minutes. When I used to torment well
because if I came for O'Brien and and Heart Compartment,
I could come in and sit for the entire show
because they really just that's right, So you would come in.
(46:26):
But I wouldn't have worn a suit just for that.
So I don't know. I don't think he would have
brought macaroons. Those things taste like poop shock. No, if
you get good macarons, they're pretty good. Really, yeah, you
got you got any other normal pastries better than a macro?
To Botaga Louis Downtown l A. And you have a
macro I usually brought pretty good pastries and it became
a running bit with with p O B and look,
(46:46):
I was getting a lot. I get that time, but
I don't know what time. I don't know why the
student time, buddy, I don't know why the students, student
and buddh. I just felt like I wanted to wear
I might have come from doing a video hit I
was doing at the time. Did our boss say, hey,
Jason Smith is in tonight to meet him, and you
were a suit to meet me? But I was doing
(47:08):
Fox sports dot com stuff at the time, so I
might have worn a suit for the video hit. Okay,
we started that dumb process. Sorry, it's dumb. Okay, we're
talking about sports. You don't need to be in a
damn suit and tie. But I would have to do
that for fantasy football videos. You had to do it
over at NFL network, didn't it said? Yeah, well you
couldn't get couldn't find him the neck extendard. I had
(47:32):
a lot of We used to wear ties in NFL,
and I was doesn't count. I can't tell you how
many times I said, why are we wearing ties? Crack
of ties? We should have a cool atmosphere on the show,
Why are we wearing ties? You know? And some of
the guys like, no ties, it makes you look legit.
I'm like, okay, And now it's like everybody doesn't wear ties.
But anyway, Adam Ranks was never tied enough. At least
(47:53):
I don't. I don't get the whole thing. Everybody loved ties,
but I've never understood that. But I would guess that
that was where I was before I came here, as
that I did a video hit and I came straight
to the studio. But speaking of you know, you want
a funny clothes story, NFL network, I'll tell you this,
uh copy of six years tonight? Tonight is that night
to do that? Is there are two or three guys
(48:15):
on the show that we're on the show that I'm
still there, they are still there. That would always wear
crazy socks, right, they were the I'm gonna wear crazy
socks because I want to stand out. And every time
the show would start, they would sit at such a
ridiculous angle just to get to get as much of
the socks so so everybody could see the socks they
were wearing because they want to be the irreverend cool guys.
(48:37):
Oh look, at the socks I look at wearing cool socks.
You could trust me to give out advice. I'm wearing
cool socks, and I'm like, I I watched I would
go back and watch the show and I would go,
what the hell is that doing? You're an Angels fan?
You're not that cool. Well, I'm I'm not saying who
it was because there's actually other people, but I'm like, okay,
what what what are you guys doing? What? Why? Why?
You look like you're trying to like step on a
(48:57):
bug or you but your legs across like you have
to go to a bathroom and people. Yeah, it's like,
I just want to wear socks now. I just remember
the the suit up moments were always ridiculous. In something
I railed again, maybe that didn't help my cause overall.
Maybe it's not helping my cause now to expand back
into video platforms. You're gonna meet Jason Smith tonight. You
(49:18):
wear a bleeping suit, Harmon. Do you even still on
the suit? Probably not? Oh no, I gotta I got
a good racket clip. Now that suit's gone off the
rack suit I've lost a little weight since it was
one of those tear off suits. It was you gotta
have those that I got. I got a good I
got a good racket ties I got, I got a
good I mean, I can dress well when there's a
(49:40):
reason to dress well. I'm going up to look and
stare at you. I'm sorry. I don't know why you
but you you're and I don't know why you were.
I was, I was amazed. I'm like, why is this
guy wearing a suit? Nobody this guy's been a radio
we literally did he works in radio? Why is he
wearing a you know these things? Did you then go
up to the fourth floor after that day and be like,
I can't work with this guy? You know what? I
(50:02):
wouldn't have blamed you if you did. I mean you
and I literally I think we did one segment together
when Fabriano flaked on you and they called me desperately
to show up and we talked movies for ten minutes.
We didn't do anything right, right, right, right, and that too.
Am im, wow, not doing a radio and you'm gonna
put a suit on. I'm at home. I was probably
(50:23):
not wearing pants. People are gonna tell no, that's right.
But the idea that I came out and I remember
hanging up the phone going we didn't dude, but a
half a minute of football? All right, cool and went
on with my day and it was fine whatever. But
lo and behold, here we are starting year seven, yelling
about the meaning of life for functional monitors in front
(50:45):
of us. Uh and a lot of fun stories that
we traversed, like nobody else can twitter at. How about
a fresco Mike had swollen and we didn't even get
to Freddie Kitchens. Nobody's gonna miss him that the giants
want to talk to Freddie Kitchens about being on Joe Brownson, No,
we have to talk about Judge Joe brown Entry there,
like we gotta get that back to those two things.
(51:07):
But you know, we have Jay Glazer on before just
you know as part of what we do. We don't
have a lot of random guests and pop ins, right,
We don't Frostberg. We don't have him chasing down people
and and running running him up to where it's littered
with just random voices. We have friends of the show.
And what you got from Jay Glazer earlier on, you'll
be able to podcast it on iTunes, Google Play, wherever
(51:30):
you get your podcasts. Coming up at about eleven o'clock Pacific,
So about three hours from now is where you get
those stories, those connections, Dan Woiki, Jason Cole, you know,
off the rail conversation. Yes, you get what you need
from the particular sport, but a little flavor of life
and it makes I don't know, every time we get
to the schedule, it's like all right, he's on the line,
(51:51):
like sweet, all right, what are we gonna get? What
kind of gift are we getting this week? And it's
always cool to keep expanding that network and those friends ships,
So we celebrate them as we move into year seven,
and we'll celebrate Harmon wearing a suit. Maybe that should
be the thing every anniversary, you have to wear a suit.
You know what, I'll be happy to I'll be happy
too because I look good and turn that camera on.
(52:14):
So yeah, Freddie Kitchens, maybe on his way back to
the NFL, we'll have a little bit. Nobody cares. But
way do we tell you what's going on with Kevin
Durant the past half hour? That's coming up next right here?
Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten
pm Eastern seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
(52:37):
the I Heart Radio app Fox Sports Radio, The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmen, live from
the Geico Studios, and uh, tonight being our six year anniversary,
we've talked about this and and now that you know,
if you listen to the show, you know it's now Offishally,
I've been doing this show longer than I've done all night.
(52:57):
Let fly your Fox versus the ESPN questions, Twitter at,
how about a fresco. I'll get to as many as
I can throughout the show tonight. We'll read some on
air as well. Uh differences Fox ESPN? What do you
want to know? Questions like I had six years there,
six years here now radio radio, Uh, whatever you want.
Like I said, I'll get to as many as we
can throughout the show tonight. And if you want to
ask me deeply personal questions about Mike Harmon, that is
(53:20):
okay as well. Deeper and deeper, deep way way down,
deeply personal questions, deeply personal. But it wouldn't be a
night if we didn't have a crazy story come out
of nowhere that none of us saw coming. And thank
you to Kevin Durant for supplying us with this. I
would say, Kevin Durant has too much time on his hands,
but this story would still come. He would still be
(53:42):
doing the same things if he was playing. Durant, who
of course not playing for the next this season rehabbing
from his tourn achilles, is in a Twitter war shockingly
with former teammate Kendrick Perkins. And it all had to
do with Kendrick Perkins, who was in ESPN andst former
NBA star NBA champion who tweeted out, Hey, I'm going
(54:05):
on TV in a few minutes to talk about why
I think Russell Westbrook is the greatest Oklahoma City Thunder
player of all time. Remember the Thunder had Russell Westbrook,
they had k d and they had James Harden. So
of course here's, you know, great hot topic radio coming
out here. Who's the best Oklahoma City thunderplayer of all time?
So you have that, Sean Kemp. But come on, Shan,
(54:26):
Sean Camp was great. Uh, probably a little too soon
for Shawn Kemp. So this is Kendrick Perkinson. I'm gonna
go out there and say, and obviously tonight's a big
night Westbrook playing back in Oklahoma City wearing a T
shirt that says no regrets, so's you know Westbrook and saying, hey,
I'm I'm happy where I'm at right now. But Kevin
Durant could not leave that alone and decided, well, if
(54:47):
Kendrick Perkins is gonna tweet out that he's going on
TV to say that Russell Westbrook was the greatest thunder
player of all time, I gotta come back with something. Well,
now here just started. Katie had already had his lather
worked up earlier in the day between Brandon Tierney and
a bunch of people on Twitter, because you've got a
winning streak from the nets, and well, nobody cares, right
(55:10):
losing streak, nobody cares, basically trying to say nobody cares
about the Nets. So Kevin Durant, reality is you want.
You wanted me to do what you wanted me to do.
I didn't, and now you feel some weird way about it.
Get over yourself. I know you've got a little platform,
but come out of the clouds. It's not real. Okay. Cool.
So he's already all fired up. So then the Kendrick
Perkins thing starts. So someone responds on k d's behalf
(55:37):
um so you say. Someone responds, apparently because it could
be a Katie Burder in this case, was a guy
named Mark Demiko, who is blue checkmark guy who managed
the Celtics official team, content writer, analysts, whatever job. So
he throws up a response to Perks. I'm gonna say
(55:58):
it's Russell Westbrook, I say, and best career within the organization,
but he's definitely not the best player to put a
jersey on for them. Come on, Perk, and Perk's he
he left the door open and Russ walked right in.
So goes again. They go back and forth another time,
and Perkins goes, well, Katie lost in the second round
without Russ when I was there, So what does it
all mean? And Durant goes, yeah, and our starting center
(56:20):
averaged a whopping two and three during that series. You've
played hard, though, Champ l O L. That's pretty good.
Right now, we're up to over twenty three thousand likes
h and retweets. Perk comes back over the top. Boys, stop,
you did the weakest move in NBA history up on
a team three one in the Western Conference Final. Let
(56:40):
me go join in the following season. Heart of a
Champion right there, Durant comes back again. Week is starting
at center, playing real minutes with no production. Sure to
worked on your skills as much as I do, perk
back over the top. That's fine. You worked that hard
and still had to go join a seventy three and
nine team. Would be told, you don't he feel like
(57:01):
a real champ capital c You have a hard time
sleeping at night, huh, knowing that you took the coward
way out, yo. Snap, And it just keeps going and going,
and then everybody else starts coming in and he he
did take the easy road. And there's no question about it.
That one probably really chapped. Katie's asked, Kevin Durant needs
(57:22):
his own personal police force to monitor these things on
social media. And when they see it, go to his
house and bang on the door and go Kevin Durant,
put the phone down, put the phone down, open the door,
put your phone and down. He can't stay away. Just
Kevin Perkins, just Kendrick Perkins, who wants to say something
(57:44):
nice about Russell Westbrook And Katie is so chapped that
anybody but him could be the best player in Thunder history. Dude,
let it go. But this is Kevin Durant. He wants
to get involved with the knuckle headed stuff. This is
so good, though, because immediately as people get wind of
this and start shining in, it's all the gifts you
(58:04):
would come to expect. First, there's the Kobe where he's,
you know, just shaking his head back and forth really fast,
and all he's mouthing is the words saw that Dwight
Howard's face. Yeah, so that one shows up repeatedly. The
famous Simpsons when Homer goes to Krusty College and then
he kills the Hamburglar. Stop stuff, he's already dead. We
(58:26):
got that, a couple of prize fights, uh k d
dancing as part of a warrior celebration, um, the Fred
Rogers putting on the clown mask, which is a famous one.
And then there's the the guy who's leaning back on
a couch and he grabs his popcorn and kind of
starts billing the popcorn in his mouth. All of those
(58:47):
have now been used nine thousand times to describe well,
just how badly k d ward here. We do have
to give Katie a lot of credit, though. Tonight he's
finally putting his name on it. He's not using an
account this is big. But do you think he knows
that he's tweeting from his own account. He thinks he's
actually tweeting from one of his burner accounts. Could be
(59:10):
he could be tweeting from a niche man. He could
be tweeting from a burner account where. This is the
thing about Kevin Durant. I don't know what makes him happy,
because clearly he needs some kind of destiny outside of basketball,
because he never seems happy. Because he does, he does,
(59:32):
but he but he gets caught in with knuckle headed
discussions like this. I'm sorry, one of your former teammates
thinks Russell Westbrook is a better player in the Thunder
than than you were were talking about who was the
best Thunder player, right, obviously it's who was the best player.
No one's saying Russell wester is a better player than
Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant has the titles It's happened, But
(59:52):
God forbid a guy say something. Kevin Durant put the
phone down. It's one guy's opinion, like he thinks. And
if Kendrick Perkins says this, the entire rest of the
world is going to be like zombies and go, Yes,
Westbrook best player on Thunder, Yes, but I want to
(01:00:13):
know in the origin and a beef now, because there's
there's more stuff to this. This isn't jes I mean,
I don't know about that guy. I think Westbrook was
the best player. Let you know why, because Westbrook at
least stayed as long as he could. And obvious Kendrick
Perkins has a thing with loyalty, right because the first
thing he's comes back and Kevin Durant is with you
left to join the Warriors. You jumped, You jumped, Yeah,
(01:00:35):
and he took the easy way out right, and Westbrook
stayed as long as he could. Now did Westbrook take
the way out? Sure? But he did stay for ten
years and it wasn't happening. So then finally he jumped
to a different team. And as an organization, they were
ready to decide, Hey, we're only getting to point B,
you know in this configuration. And what Kevin Durant has
to realize is that you are going to get criticized.
(01:00:58):
Not everybody is going to love you. Once Lebron James
figured out I can't get everybody to love me, because
he tried that for a long time and Kobe Bryant
was that was the one thing that chap that that
got me upset with the whole Lebron decision thing. It
wasn't how he did it, it was that he was surprised.
Some people were mad about it. Yeah, but because Kobe
(01:01:20):
and Lebron wanted to be Michael Jordan. They wanted that
unadulterated love. People weren't even bulls. Fans loved Michael Jordan.
Nobody hated Michael Jordan. It's an impossible thing to do
in sports when you're an icon is to not be polarizing.
Messy is polarizing. I mean, no matter who you are,
you're polarizing Jamal Adams. But once Kobe and Lebron understood
(01:01:44):
that we're just not gonna win, and you can ignore
people on social media saying stupid things about you. Ignore it.
There's no law that says you have to get on
social media and say things. But they both realized, I
I can't fight this battle anymore about being of What
happened Kobe started winning championships. What happened to Lebron? He
started going to NBA finals and winning championships. Kevin Durant
(01:02:07):
has yet to realize that people are just gonna not
like you. And just because a hundred people could say
something at you on Twitter, that's a hundred people on Twitter.
What are you worried about? Man? But he worries about
stuff like that. He worries about the knucklehead and stuff
like that. I guarantee you he thought, I'm gonna go
to Golden State, win a couple of championships and everybody's
(01:02:27):
gonna love me. And what happened instead some people loved him,
but there's a lot of you had to go join
the seventy three win team. I Kevin Durant left, and
not only did he not anticipate that, but he's not
okay with it. People are just gonna hate you when
you do something creative for a living, whether you're on
the radio, whether you're on TV, whether you're a writer,
whether you're a basketball player, you're an NFL star, When
(01:02:49):
you do something creative, you're gonna have people that love you,
and you're gonna have people that don't like you and
have critics, and you gotta be okay with that. And
Kevin Durant still isn't still isn't okay with that. He's
he fights wind meals. He's like Don Quixote. He wants
to fight these imaginary battles that don't mean anything, just
because oh, KP said this about me, and what do
you fall victim too? Because I don't want to see
(01:03:09):
people my timeline going, oh, man, KP disrespected you that way.
I don't want to talk to friends the next day going, dude,
you see what KP tweeted about you last night when
he's had a watch Sports Center. Man, that was I
can't live with that. Apparently, I have to make sure
that I go back and fight every battle so there's
no opinion anywhere on the Internet or elsewhere that isn't
Kevin Durant is the best, dude. You gotta let that go.
(01:03:31):
And I promise you if Kevin Durant listening, heause listens everywhere.
If he's listening, I promise you you will be much
happier once you realize I can't please everybody and I
just have to let it go. You your whole whole
new world will open up to you on It doesn't
mean I don't love this story, because this story is
really it's a fantastic story, is really funny. Just but
that's the thing for Kevin's gonna send you over to
(01:03:52):
game him a hug. He needs to be hugged. And
just told it's okay, it's okay to do. You have critics,
You decided what was better for you. You want a
couple of rings, and you know you're always chasing that
next thing. That's fine. Maybe you'll never be happy, but
in this moment, just just get away from the keyboard.
We'll do something, Go watch you know, Russ or whatever
(01:04:16):
else you need to do tonight, It'll be okay. Twitter
At how about a fresco Mike hat Swollen On The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. I
got a big story from the NFL coming up in
nineties seconds. But first, be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, live from the Geico
Studios as we celebrate our six year anniversary here at
(01:04:39):
Fox Sports Radio. I'm Jason, he is Mike Harmon. We'll
have more on the NBA and this developing story involving
Kevin Durant and Russell Westber coming up in a few minutes.
But you know what, we've seen the past couple of days.
Is Matt Rule get introduced as new head coach of
the Carolina Panthers, Joe Judge get introduced to it's a
(01:05:00):
new head coach of the New York Giants, And both
of them decided they needed to give those passionate, fiery,
raw ra ross speeches at their press confers. Uh, you know,
we we got a little bit of Judge and we
got a little bit of Matt Ruled, tight shirt. Let's
hear a Matt Rule and his firing it from yesterday,
(01:05:21):
his raw ross speech. Developers developers, developers, developers. Uh so
we'll all right, we'll get that audio in a second. Um,
I see six years is still working on stuff. So
both of them give these impassionate speeches, right, Matt Rule yesterday.
No one's gonna work as hard like the Tim Tebow speech.
No one's gonna work as hard as I am where
(01:05:42):
where I am passionately dedicated. Same thing with Joe Judge.
I'm passionately dedicated. Now. I get you want to win
the press conference, and I understand that part of what
you want to come in and you want to exude
strong leader because this is the first time people are
gonna see you in that role and they want to
understand that, Okay, you're a guy that's gonna take the
chies by the horns. You're not gonna be Adam Gas
(01:06:02):
and we're gonna have a meme of you looking at
tacos after it's done because you look like a lunatic.
But the whole raw ross speechness uh that we're getting
from both these guys the last couple of days. If
this is who you are, great, But if if you're
not this guy, then I kind of have an issue
with trying to throw something out there that you don't
(01:06:23):
really need to say. It's right, we can't have anyone
to freak out out there. Okay, we've got a key
mark of polser. We've got too far looks too much
to look. That's my man. It ain't far off that
it was both guys. It sounded like they were either
(01:06:44):
trying to get me to dig deep in my pocket
because they were televangelists, or they were I was a
booster and they were trying to tell me they needed
some new weight training facilities or something. Come on, we're
building a great program. You know it's gonna We're gonna
work harder. We're gonna plunge people in to know well,
you know, and I get that part of it. But
at the same time, it's for me. It's it's that
(01:07:06):
I don't doubt that you are passionate. There's no way
I can because the NFL as a results oriented business.
You are getting this job because of the work you
have put in at your previous job and throughout your
entire career. You're not just walking into a job with
with with no experience. It's not nempotism. It's not You're
(01:07:28):
not the lazy son who has spent the last four
years just kind of hanging out living in the basement
and suddenly now here you are on the board and
your father's company. No, everybody is working hard, So I
I get them wanting to win the press conference. But
at the same time, it's like I kind of know
that already about you, and and fans know that too.
You know, there's certain things I think you have to
give people more credit for, understand. I think you've got
(01:07:49):
to give fans more credit for the fact that you
don't need to go crazy at all your press conferences
to convince everyone you're the right person. For the job.
We will practice with a physical attitude. We will practice
and pads. We'll practice live tackling. Not to make a
statement that we're trying to be tough. We're gonna practice
live tackling because I believe in doing it safely. There's
not gonna be shortcuts what we have to do. It's
(01:08:09):
a tough division. It's a tough division in cities full
of top We'll play fast, we'll play downhill. We'll play aggressive.
We'll punch you in a nose for sixty minutes. We'll
play every play like it is a history and a
life fits own where they relentless competitive attitude it ourselves.
That is our mission right here? Hold hold why does
(01:08:30):
he nut look at me? Turn around and face me
at my signal and reach like like the other guys
come to their press conference and go. We'll practice a
little bit. I mean, not too much though, because you
know I I like to sleep late. We'll watch a
little bit of film, but not a ton of it though,
because you know I lose interest after like fifteen minutes
of watching something. Uh. You know, we got some good players,
(01:08:52):
some guys aren't as good. We'll do the best we
can with them you are we gonna win. I don't
know if we win great, but just you know, kind
of celebrate that we just do something together every Sunday
to get to watch us on TV. I mean, that's
really look in this world right now. I gotta understand that,
you know, participation is the biggest thing and and and
(01:09:12):
if you participate, you're a winner. I mean, like, those
are the speeches that if I'm not saying, we'll punch
you in the mouth, people are gonna think, O gods,
if you don't know what you're doing. He was just
getting warmed up. He wasn't done there, He wasn't We
got more. Oh, let's hear it. My name is Maximus
Decimus Meridius, Command of the Armies of the North, General
of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true Emperor
(01:09:34):
Marcus Aurelius, father to a mooted son, husband to a
mooted wife. My vengeance. I like how they gave him
a pump up music. And there's somebody in the back
writing that way. So matt rule is short for Maximus.
Was that decibel that's about? Miss Tish? I will not
let you down. Some Decimus Decimus I can you. Yeah,
(01:10:00):
I'm sorry I missed that whole also had no idea
his wife was murdered. You know that really was a
piece of related quickly. Yeah. No, I mean there's a
whole other profile that you'll see in the Sunday paper.
But the fact that he's going down this whole road.
First off, you got the nfl PA's notice. Hold, wait,
we're gonna we're gonna do live tackling drills right now. Okay,
(01:10:21):
I believe it well too, Yeah, you're gonna do that
just like Greg Shiana. We're gonna we're gonna rush the
kneel down. Okay, so that's how we did at Rutgers.
We're gonna rush Theneil down? Did he not like Joker?
What's his beef with Joaquin Phoenix? But who wrote the speeches?
I'm just dancing down the steps like a choker. Put
(01:10:44):
put his face on there and get that gift going.
But also just just the way it's delivered. It's like,
I get you're kind of nervous, but you're gonna write
things like we're gonna punch you in the nose or
whatever that wasn't delivered with any force, will punch you
in the nose, just like this guy didn't report. You
can do that too. You had it coming. Come here,
(01:11:04):
stand right next to me. Why I like reporters saying
I told you like this, I told you no flash
photography will punch you as hard as Elie throws a football.
I get it. I get wanting to do that. But
at some point I'm going, Okay, you can stop with
the theatrics. Are you being a little disingenuous here with
who you are? Okay, you're gonna practice in pads? I
(01:11:27):
mean that sounds like a college coach that really has
no idea what life is really like in the NFL.
I'm I'm coaching. I did it all this way, and
so what happened to Tom Coughlin? Yeah, you say, you
sound like a guy that that is not Now now
he sounds like someone who is not who's out of
his depth. When it comes to the next the only
thing he needed worth two more lines? Who are we
(01:11:49):
the Wildcats? Who are we gonna beat the Wildcats? I
mean that's it, we're talking grades. Come on, man is
not working in a locker room football. Hope he succeeds.
I hope he has tremendous success and that he's not
a slouch. Oh, don't sell yourself short, He's a tremendous slouch.
Twitter at how about a Fresca, Mike and swollen Dome?
(01:12:09):
Coming up next, we get back into the big developing
basketball story the night involving Russell Westbrook's return to Oklahoma City.
No regrets, but are there really? It's next on Fox.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
(01:12:30):
Radio app. So with today being our six year anniversary, Oh,
happy anniversary, Mike and I officially on the air for
six years now. I've officially been doing this show longer
than I did all night at ESPN Radio. That's not
street legal, So I threw it out there on Twitter tonight. Hey, anything,
any questions you want to have Fox versus ESPN six
(01:12:52):
years at both for radio? Let me know. I'm getting
to as many as I can on Twitter. And uh,
you know, how about a Fresco? You want to pile
those up? Yes? That? How about a Fresky? You want
to ask me at ESPN PR for the other Sure,
but earlier than when I told the story about the
first that I met Mike harmon Uh Frostburg said, now, wait, Jason,
(01:13:12):
you remember the first person that you asked to work
with was Alie Hayes. I'm like, oh, I forgot about that.
I got people in my timeline now sending me pictures
of them that they've taken, pictures they've taken with Alie
Hayes at different how jere different if you've gone, we
should go and do a remote later this month at
the Aviena Wards. I mean, these are all at all
events that that you know, Alie Hayes is at, you know,
(01:13:35):
adult film actress, extraordinary and so that people sitting here,
here's a picture I took with Alie Hayes back in
Family Show. Damn it. Oh no, they're all legit pictures,
all stuff. Oh yeah, everybody's everybody's nothing fake about everybody.
Everybody fully closed. Everything's fully closed, fully closed. Went right
over your head, January. What the expo in Vege, Okay,
(01:14:01):
well Frostburg is gonna be there, so that's okay. Yeah.
We gave him those ones and fives for his birthdays,
for his hotel room and ones and five. I got enough,
I think, so we'll have some more this. We'll get
to some of the questions uh coming up in a
bid here on the show. But tonight we just watched
it finish in Oklahoma City. He got a big ovation
(01:14:21):
the beginning of the game, getting a big ovation leaving
the floor as he is after ask kicking after after
getting smacked Russell Westbrooks returned to Oklahoma City, went about
how Oklahoma City wanted it to go. They cheered him
as he entered the arena, Tom Brady, and then they
(01:14:42):
gave him a big tribute video tribute on the board
as well, and they cheered him on his way off
the floor. Clearly, what also work is the fact that
Oklahoma City beat the Rockets one to nineties certainly helps well.
He's the greatest thunder player of all times, right according
to ken Rick Perkins, he is, uh story we'll get
to coming up next hour on the show. In his return, though,
(01:15:04):
westbrook had a pretty big night thirty four points fourteen
out of twenty six from the floor, Harden did not
have a big night. He goes for seventeen. But look,
this wasn't really a game once you got outside of
the third quarter. Uh look, I mean the Rockets got
cooked by Chris Paul tonight. I mean Paul had eighteen.
He's six and five, and it looked like Chris Paul
from like two and a half years ago. So this
(01:15:26):
was a night the thunder. We're waiting for it. And
I'm sure Chris Paul doing his interviews after the game
right now is saying, Hey, I had a big game.
Get me out of here, Get me out of here,
get me back to your winning team. Someone, get me
somewhere five the greatest time to play. I'm watching him
blink right now, get me somewhere fast. I'm gonna blink
sls with my eyes. And as you think you'll go
on Twitter now and say, hey, Perk, holler at your boy.
(01:15:49):
Uh so that now he's the greatest of all there.
I mean they had five guys score at least fifteen
points in this game. Great balance for But the big
conversation is with Russell Westbrook coming back getting cheered both
times beginning and end of the game, where it was
a polite applause for Paul George and it was out
and out hate for Kevin Durant the first time he
(01:16:10):
came back to Oklahoma City. And this is really simple.
Russell Westbrook stayed. Yes, he left, but he stayed for
a long time, and fans are intelligent enough to understand
when a guy wants to go. They got to the
NBA Finals and a couple of years later, Kevin Durant said, yeah,
you know what, I'm gonna go join the seventy three
win team. I I can't stay here anymore. I can't
(01:16:32):
play with Russell Westbrook anymore. So when he leaves and
Westbrook stays, of course, fans are gonna love him because
he stayed. Durant was the one to leave. When you leave,
people are unless you want a championship, fans are gonna
hate you. This is really pretty simple. And Kevin Durant
losing his mind on Twitter over this, and I just
(01:16:52):
I don't understand. This was very predictable. Russell Westbrook's gonna
get ovation because he stayed. He gave everything he had
to Oklahoma said he was always true. He gave you
eleven years and he left everything. I mean, love or
hate him, it was never fake. He was like Kobe.
When Kobe was on the court, he gave you forty
eight minutes. When Russell Westbrook hits the court. You may
(01:17:14):
not like it, you may be see maddening things in
terms of possession, shot selection, et cetera. But there's no
question that he gave you everything every night and so
for eleven years, that's what he gave them. And that
was the response tonight. I mean, it's it's it's really simple.
But we'll get back into the because of Kevin Durant
aspect ine, that's Westbrook's return was awesome. We're a T
(01:17:36):
shirt that said no regrets and he still got cheered
because the guy stayed. But the Durant part of it
is awesome. We got that coming up. We've got a
big story from the nfl our six year anniversary show.
We're selting right here tonight, right here, Jason Smith, Mike
Harmon Fox Sports Radio. Hey, Katie, the net suck. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific,
(01:17:59):
And today is our six year anniversary show. We got
a lot of NFL to get to this hour. He
got the latest on Tom Brady terall Owens is getting
involved in this controversy. Now, what players under the most
pressure to win this weekend, but you know, our big
six year anniversary tonight, and it's it's a it's a
weird phenomenon for me because you know, look, is it
just another night that we're coming into the show. Yes, tonight,
(01:18:21):
we're gonna come out, have fun, give strong opinions. Execute
But at the same time, it's it's also a night
to reflect on on what we've done where the show
is at. And then you know the growth we've had,
and you know, the six years we've had here. As
I've said a couple of times, tonight is now officially
longer than the time I spent on all night on ESPN, right,
(01:18:44):
And it's it's really weird because you know, I would
think of myself, God, I was I did all night forever.
You know, I was there for so long and the
shows were five hours by myself every night, and it
was you know, it was really I was thrown off
the deep ended here it is, you know, go do radio.
And when I left, it was the time is okay.
(01:19:05):
I needed a break, And NFL Network came along and
and and hired me in two thousand eleven. I was
there for three years. They went to direct TV for
a few years doing TV, and I feel here at
Foxes if we're just kind of rolling along, you know,
and I don't feel anything at that six other than
we got another show tomorrow. We got fun stuff here,
we got funds. How do we keep expanding? It's it's
(01:19:26):
been fun, right, how do we keep, you know, adding
to the storylines and adding to the madness that we
bring to the airwaves. We've got the Special Teams podcast
that's up on iTunes where we go through the good,
the bad, the ugly teams and give some really good
accounts of what was going on in our respective lives.
Of great stories get mixed in there, uh, pop culture
(01:19:47):
stuff and whatever. But we're just scratching the surface on
a lot of that stuff. And as the medium involves
between radio and more video content and just yelling at
each other, I feel like we're just begin in the race.
I mean, it's the Yogi bearra when you see a
fork in the road, you have taken and I'm letting
I'm allowing people, well everything, I'm not allowing you, but
(01:20:09):
will you I threw it out on Twitter, you know,
being here now for six years and then six years
at ESPN, if you want to have any Fox versus
ESPN type questions? Uh, as we celebrate anniversary here, I'll
get to as many as I can, and I'm getting
to as many as I can on Twitter. But there's
a couple I want to mention here real fast or
any from Kevin Durant, None from well maybe Fris Burner.
(01:20:30):
Have I gotten blocked by him? Yes, that's gonna be.
I told him I was sending you to come give
him a hug. That is a crazy ast story really
get to in a couple of minutes. But one person asked,
I gotta find it right here. Who are your favorite
guests to have on Uh? From both at ESPN and Fox.
Now we have many people athletes and and regulars on
(01:20:53):
the show here you guys like Jason cole com on
a week and Jake Glazer and all this stuff. And
ESPN was the same way. But I'll say this outside
the box, the interviews I remember the most, right the
people outside of the regulars, sports athletes, analysts we've had
on the show at ESPN the three News, I remember
the most, obviously Joe Namath but he's an athlete. Because
I got to meet Joe Namath, um Penny Marshall came
(01:21:17):
on after a Lakers game one night when I was
supposed to get a guest. It was the Lakers had
a big game and I was supposed to get a
guest and the reporter said, I can't get you a
player because the locker rooms closed. But do you want
to talk to Penny Marshall. I go, yeah, put Penny
Marshall on the phone. So Penny Marshall came on and
talked for five minutes about the Lakers. Was Robert Orry's
(01:21:38):
first game back in l A after he left, like
he went to the Spurs. I think because she also
had seasons for the Clippers to write right, and she
was and I was talking about Robert. I remember her saying, Oh,
Robert's a friend. We can't Robert's a friend. You can't
rip Robert Ory. Come on. Uh. Frankie Munitz, who came
on after what because he was a big Clippers fan.
He was having some fun in his own expense over
(01:21:59):
the weekend with the Golden Glow. Yeah, yeah, he came
on after after the Clippers. It was when the Clippers
went to the playoffs with Elton Brand. They never went
to the plan, No, no, No, they did. It was documented.
They really saw it. Yeah, they did. When they went
to the Western Conference. Semmis with Elton Brand and Franki
Mutis came on after. He was so happy. I asked
him anything and he would just tell Ques stories about
(01:22:21):
Malcolm in the Middle everything else. Um, Brian Cranston, I've
actually done shows with Brian Cranston. And I did shows
with Brian Cranston when he was just coming off of
Malcolm in the Middle. Yeah. But have you done meth
with Brian Krant No, And he's not made any for
me either, So he's got that to live up to
as that goes. But I mean doing shows with him,
I mean it was we should have him on to
(01:22:42):
talk about the Dodgers offseason. Has biggest Dodgers fan in
the world. His fortieth birthday was a huge party at
Dodger Stadium. His wife. They invited like fifty friends. The
Dodgers haven't done Jack, but doing should get me channel
as Walter White pretty fast, think if we got into that.
But I mean, that's the amazing part is that you
know he came in and he was you know, he
(01:23:02):
was obviously a star here in Hollywood, and but he
was coming off Malcolm in the Middle and he was
still doing a bunch of different things, and he was
just a great guy coming on then. I remember the
last time I talked to him was he he came
on for a few minutes the night the Dodgers had
back to back to back to back home runs, and
we said, oh, like, Brian krant he came on to you,
was so excited. I said, where are you right now?
He goes, well, I'm in Albuquerque. I said, we're doing
(01:23:24):
in Albuquerque as well. I'm I'm shooting this TV show
for a m C. It's called Breaking Bad. It's insane.
It's about this this this high school teacher who turns
into a meth maker, any any any deals meth It's
one of his former students. It's just insane to go,
oh my god, that show sounds crazy. And now look
at what happened. It's become one of the greatest dramas
in the history of television. And Brian Cranton is a huge,
(01:23:44):
A list star. That's the last time I talked. I mean,
you know, then he had other bigger things. Just made
the list of the top five TV shows of all time.
The Rolling Stone just but out. I'll never forget him
saying it's this crazy show in Albuquerque, and it's like, okay,
good luck. You know, it's someund something like a pilot,
like hey, good luck that because when you try to
describe it right, when you're boiling down to what it is,
(01:24:05):
guys sick and you know, it turns to making okay
and then and then it becomes one of the most
taught thrillers for what six seasons? Oh yeah it was.
It was incredible. I mean there was that's like a
perfect series. There was no bad episodes. Even the fly
episode was good. So stick it now. The best I
mean for me, like that was the last show that
(01:24:26):
was appointment television. No disrespect anything that's on the air,
But I mean, we work at nights, so stuff goes
to DVR weekends you're hustling changed to the kids that
used to be on on Sunday nights. When I'd finished
doing my my video wraps over at Fox Sports dot Com,
I go to this the lot. I'd finish, and I'd
get home, have whatever I'd picked up or whatever someone
had grabbed to eat along the way, and I'd get
(01:24:48):
into the house literally right as al right here we go.
Let's go. So those are my favorite guests from ESPN.
From Fox, We've had Ray Wilson on leg Rain. Wilson
came on to talk about the mag and he was
telling this, told us great stories about being out at
sea during the election and they had no one had
WI five and they couldn't figure anything out all of that,
(01:25:11):
and then just the long vacation spoiler spoiler. We had
Nikki six on and he inadvertently announced the Motley Crue
retirement tour. Whoops, I guess I just let that out
of the bag. But yeah, we're gonna finish a Staples
Harmon took us to that show. Uh and and are
and check Mike Harmon? Are they retired? Are they Are
(01:25:31):
they still retired? They told us Mike back. Yeah, they
tooled us. I was going to write him a nice
long leadder. I made former Hallway mate. I mean, think
of all the people we met because of his president, Maryland,
Carolyn Manson. I helped him make coffee. Chester Bennington used
to come in all the time. Jester was there, I mean,
Slash Duff, McCaig and all those guys would be around
the hallway. I mean just craziness ensuing. But yes, he
(01:25:54):
let the cat out of the bag. That was one
hell of a show. When they left that time, I
don't know that they'll get me for the second. No, no, no,
we haven't had Nickie after that. I think they said,
all right, no more interviews, NICKI, no more interviews, just
talking Dodgers with Chester. Think about that for a second,
because he used to hang out here because of Nikki.
We had Tiffany on in town this weekend. I'm gonna
try to get her to pop in, you know. And
(01:26:15):
I remember we had Tiffany on and she was just
like kind of starting this soule eighties tour stuff again.
And now she's back in as popular as she was
in the Age's touring all the time. She's doing a
thing here in Anaheim over the weekend. The Big Eighties
show that they're promoting Ambertheason right and no, but if
you could get Tiffany Ambertheasen in studio, I would really
(01:26:35):
appreciate that. And then we had Challenge Accepted, and then
we had weird Al Yankovic on the show. Yes we
went blurry when Word Crimes went to number one. I
don't know how we got Frostberg. I don't know how
you got him, I really don't, but something we got
weird Al to come on the show and he was
coming on live at seven thirty all right, seven thirty
(01:26:57):
rd time. Well at Frostberg. He calls in at seven o'clock, right,
and what happens? I say, Fox Parts Radio, who's this?
He's like, hey, it's all legendary. And he was so
fun and he was ready to party. Yeah. I mean,
that was such a fun. Conversation was just crazy. And
then Frostbrog had to say, all right, well, we'll talk
(01:27:19):
to you in a half hour. He wanted to, He
wanted to go right there. He was pumped. I remember
telling my kids because I've been playing word crimes while
we were making breakfast or whatever else I said. He
was on air. I went to school like it was
the greatest thing. Forget about anybody else we'd ever talked to.
It was weird. Now you would not use it's in
(01:27:39):
this case. And I remember asking him going, hey, I'm
sure over The one thing I remember from the interview
is he said, I'm sure. Over the course of the years,
you've met people all over to say hey, they have
a great idea for a song or a or a
great line for a song. Anybody ever give you something
that you used? And he just said no all those years,
no antically, and so nobody could come up to him
(01:28:01):
and say, you know what, how about another one rides
the bus? Like, no one said that to him. Really,
I'm serious, No, no one said that. Another one rides
a bus? Now you actually did that, Tony, But even something,
you know, I'm surprised not one idea. I gotta think
there's at least one or two that kind of were
a glancing blow that's stuck in the back of the
old brain and eventually found their way into a session
(01:28:23):
that could also be the yes, I got a great story.
And then the other devil on your shoulder says, if
you tell this story and the person is listening, they
will sue. You'll have to pay the money for that. Yeah. No, no,
no one's no, one's give me anything. No, No, that's
a that's that's a Kramer. No, it's a Peterman. You
sold it to him. Hey, it's a hell just the
(01:28:46):
number of like I don't know as if we were
friends forever, like like I knew him as owl right right, right, right, Hey, Frostberg.
It's that would have been more believable if we're Al Bundy.
I was actually in a fantasy football league with Al
Bundy once, but I didn't know it because we were
(01:29:08):
It was it was an ESPN, it was a it
was a fantasy league in which was it a nomam league? No? No, no, no, no.
Everybody had to put their hands in their pants while
they were sitting down watching TV. No. It was one
of those leagues where the mystery team was owned by
a celebrity. No one wanted to say who it was,
and turned at the end of the year it was
Ed O'Neill. Was Al Bundy? Interesting? I was trying to
(01:29:29):
think if I made a trade with him at all,
but I don't think I did. Did you get fleeced
by him? No, he didn't trade him. I got fleeced
by Al Bundy. His wife. What's her name? Peg? Listen
you send you send me Christina Applegate's phone number, and
I'll give you whatever you want. Bundy? No, really, really, seriously? Yes,
(01:29:51):
Oh wow? Can she get an interview? She could be
like our correspondent. Knitting with Abby becomes a weekly thing
on the show, and she in of used people she
knits with, and I'll tell you what, that woman has
had one hell of a career. Another person she knits with. No,
come on, seriously, seriously, Harmon took up knitting in Did
(01:30:13):
you not see that as one of my New Year's resolutions?
I could just see Harmond walking in with all this
loot string trying to sit next to Monica Lewinsky. So
I was always on your side. Hang on, can you
I don't know how to knit one pearl? To knit
one pearl too? How do I? Wow? I did not know?
Could just see a guy looking for help him. There's
one more big wow that was in that movie? That
(01:30:36):
could be a TV show with the guy in the
place she was in that movie? Who was a movie?
What's that one? Meryl Streep No, forty year old virgin? No?
The other one close to that knocked up? Knocked up?
So what's the main girl's name? Kather? And I really? Yeah? Whoa?
(01:30:56):
And nobody likes Katherine. I've heard that's the opposite though,
as long as you're not working with Oh really okay,
all right, Wow, that's an amazing knitting group. I mean,
that's that's a show on Oxygen. How is that not
a show knitting with stars, you have Dancing with the Stars,
you have all these other things. We have fox Head
skating with celebrities. I mean, come on, come on, they're
gonna do um. They're taking the mass singer. Now it's
(01:31:19):
gonna be the mass dancer. And they're do you want
to spin off? Yeah, well that's the mass danswer is
actually taken right from a fake show from Unreal The
mask Knittersport to Dancing. But but you got that who's
behind the knitting boy? Who's got that blue and yellow card? Again?
Going right? Now, I'm a creative. You don't think I
could go knit? I can knit? Shooting everywhere from holes
(01:31:41):
in their fingers? Who do you think it is? Ken Jong?
I know exactly who this is. This is b York
or Martha Stewart did not keep gay. He would keep
guessing Terry Branshaw is and that what he does Twitter
and out about of Fresco. Mike gets swollen down The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon Coming up next, Russell
Westbrook makes his return to Oklahoma City, but Kevin Durant
(01:32:02):
decides to steal the entire storyline. It's coming up next
right here, Fox be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten
pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio app Fox Sports Radio, The Jason
Smith Show with My best Friend Mike Harmen Live from
(01:32:25):
the Geico Studios, and The Thunder and the Thunderer. So
Thunder Thunder beat the Rockets one. In Russell Westbrooks return
to Oklahoma City. Westbrook gets a huge ovation beginning the game.
When he's introduced. He wore a T shirt that said
no regrets into the arena and which has a double meaning.
(01:32:46):
It could be hey, no regrets for leaving for Houston.
Also no regrets for staying as long as I did,
even when I wasn't gonna win a championship. He has
a big night stat wise thirty four points, five assists,
but the Rockets lose to the Thunder one and he
is cheered as he goes off the floor. The topic
(01:33:07):
of conversation tonight coming into this game with Russell Westbrook's return,
There's many different interesting angles on it. I mean, look,
I always default to the fact that my god, Oklahoma
City had Westbrook and Hardened and Kade and they couldn't
figure out a way to keep everybody together and keep
everybody happy. Right, They said, we can't sign James Harden,
so we have to trade him away. I mean preemptive.
(01:33:28):
They traded James Harden away pre emptively. We know what, Sorry,
we can't keep him. How do you know what? What
is wrong with you? But Oklahoma City, I mean that's
they got to be on the hook for all of you.
Underachieve with the superstars. Did no absolutely for all organizations,
regardless of sport. And we blasted the Saints pretty pretty
well on Monday. I mean, Oklahoma City, that's a whole
(01:33:52):
other level of ineptitude getting from point B to C.
Let me tell you, but it is a it is
a conversation. Part of it comes to us courtesy of
Kendrick Perkins, former NBA star who played Oklhoma City, played
with Durant, played with with Westbrook, and he tweets out
earlier tonight that he is going on TV in a
(01:34:15):
few minutes to talk about why Russell Westbrook is the
greatest player in Oklahoma City thunder history. Got right now
obviously here this is made for a hot button, hot
hot take radio because you have Westbrook, you have Durant,
you have James Harden his media career. Sure, you've got
(01:34:37):
lots of guys. You have, you got, you got Reggie Jackson,
you have plenty of guys. And obviously, if you're saying,
who's the best player out of all three of these, well,
Kevin Durant gets that. Not He's accomplished the most, he's
been a big star. He's an m v P, his
NBA Finals m v P. But when you're talking about
Oklahoma City, it's different. And Kendrick Perkins says, gonna go
(01:34:58):
on TV in a few minutes on Sports Center to
talk about why Westbrook is the greatest player in Oklahoma
City Thunder history. And Kevin Durant did not really like
that at all. You think he says that, And then
Kevin Durant himself jumps into the messages coming off of
(01:35:21):
that saying, oh, great, this is a guy who averaged
two points and three rebounds in our NBA Finals year.
But you played hard, champ l O L That line
is great, played hard. Remember when I know, you know,
you know, look I go back and you know, look,
Kendrick Perkins obviously has a bit of a different NBA
legacy depending on who you talk to. Like if you
(01:35:42):
if you go back to Boston, Doc Rivers will tell
you Perkins was the guy. That's why we couldn't win
another one. Perkins got hurt. Okay, it's Kendrick Perkins, all right,
so let's take it easy. Uh So, then Perkins goes
back at him and says, well, you were the one
who jumped ship to go to a seventy three and
nine team. After that, that's you're known for. And then
Kevin Durant and him continue to go back and forth
(01:36:05):
and Kendrick Perkins keeps hammering him with you left to
go to the Golden State Warriors. Well, the weakest move
in NBA history. That was the exact week is move
in NBA history. I mean, you're just dropping the hammer. Well,
and I'm happy for Kendrick Perkins because he's figured out
a way to jump start his NBA His uh career
(01:36:25):
on television's really good, by the way. Yeah, Perkins, Perkins
is fine on the I like him on the air
of opinions. You know, he's interested to come in here
all the time. Nice guy. Yeah, had a big opinion
today on the Bline story that made headlines as well.
The Thugs Versus Slugs commentary. All the Cleveland players after
a win tonight, uh talking about how they needed to
(01:36:47):
win for coach, but certainly something they A number of
X and NBA players chimed in on today he was
in here not too long ago. Kendrick Perkins. Right, he
was in studio here. I want to say a couple
of months ago. We saw him leaving, like maybe he
was on the odd couple or something. He walked out.
It's Kendrick Perk. There goes as Perk. He was. He
was in here for something. But anyway, now hey now
(01:37:09):
contributing Sports Center. Now he's going to be a star.
I remember that day I told you that he was
in here, and you didn't know what I said, go
talk smack to the guy that's in the studio. I
do remember that because I I turned on my camera
and I was gonna follow you down the hallway and
you sheepishly turned right, and you know it was overrated.
The two thousand and eight Celtics so wants to fight me?
(01:37:29):
Oh and your beards ugly? Oh you had a guy
in a wheelchair come back and say, oh, I gotta
go play that again. James Posey was your m v
P in that series. Oh, I take uh, and you'd
be ducking soap, duck and cover. So Kendrick Perkins decides
to you know, I go back and forth with Kevin
(01:37:50):
Durant on Twitter, and this is just a great Twitter
war that we didn't know we needed tonight. But we're
getting great and it's awesome. It's fun. It's also quintessential
Kevin dur Rant, who can't back away from anything. You know,
and what one thing that anybody who does something creative
for a living needs to realize? And Andy look and
I realize it here on the radio, wherever you are.
(01:38:13):
You're not going to please everybody. People are gonna hate you.
Right since it's our six year anniversary tone, I'll tell
you this story. You've hated me for the moment I
met you, Uh, you know, six year anniversary to that
I wore a suit better than I just said, you
wore a suit the first night. He didn't wear it better.
But six years here at Fox, six years at ESPN answering,
(01:38:33):
you know, asking an answering questions on Twitter about the
year that was. I was a week short, I was
four days short. As six years. Uh, and you get
to a point in your career when you do something
creative that you have to block out critics. And when
(01:38:54):
I first started at ESPN to go over for Todd Wright,
who had done All Night for four years, and I
started Todd Wright was gonna know how it works in
radio is the guy works one day and then the
next day somebody else is in. Right, that That's how
it went. Don't normally get to do along goodbye, Normally
don't actually get to say goodbye, and and so it
went that the next night I was on and they
(01:39:15):
told me just say Todd's right, no, there is no
longer with the network, and do your show. So I said, okay,
So that's what I did. And over the course last
few years, like there were certain times when I felt
like Todd Wright was trying to start something with me
on Twitter or saying something to somebody who was going
to talk to me. It was just really weird. But anyway,
we're gonna let him go anyway, so it doesn't matter.
And so after I took over, you know, he had
(01:39:36):
done the show for a long time, and somebody started
a petition to get me fired on All Night, like
I wasn't good enough, and it was no, it was
before it was before Twitter, this is before Twitter, and
there were like five hundred signatures on it. And it
was about when I I'm going, oh my god, people
people hate me. Oh my god, this is unbelievable. And
(01:39:56):
then I sat down with one of my boss's ESPN
and goes, Okay, realize your show is on in almost
five hundred markets. And I said, yeah, oh, by the way,
the show here tonight in a in a time slot
that's earlier. We are now on over four hundred stations,
which I'm extremely proud of every all the work that
everybody's done here on the show. And then you raize
you're on five hundred stags. I said, okay, because so
that's five people in each state that you know, or
(01:40:23):
or a little bit between five and ten people in
each state that don't like you, right, So just realize
that's what it is. This is the This is not
five people out of a thousand listening. This is on
on an attire array of nearly five hundred stations. You're
talking about if you have you have five hundred, I'm sorry,
I'm sorry, you have five hundred people. You're on almost
(01:40:43):
five hundred station. I said, okay, and they said, this
is about between five and ten people per state. This
is basically one person per affiliate. This is one person
per station that is telling you they don't like you.
And I was like, oh, I guess I didn't look
at it that way. But you still need to learned
how to deal with people not liking especially the age
of social media when it's very easier for people to say, hey,
(01:41:06):
you stink, go do something else. We're reading scores. I mean,
that's the other part of it is. You know, if
you give an opinion people are and then right across
next to each other, it's gonna happen. People are not
gonna like you, and you have to be okay with that.
I always say the same thing, if you can't take
people telling you you suck, stay off at Twitter. Kevin
(01:41:26):
da Ranch would stay off of social media because it's
obvious he can't take people telling him that he sucks
or he wound. He left to go and he deserted
his team to go to the Golden State Warriors. People
are always going to say that it doesn't matter what
you do, you can't win everybody over. But people are
always gonna say that about him, and he's got to
understand that there's nothing you can do about it. Like, well,
(01:41:48):
what's the end of Hamilton's sorry spoiler alert after after
the duel and Hamilton's dies, The final song of Hamilton's
is who lives, Who dies? Who tells your story? And
the final song of Hamilton's an awesome song. And it's
all about how no one can control how you are remembered, right.
You can't control the narrative and however they were involved
(01:42:08):
in your life or maybe not at all. You can't
control how you are perceived. You can't control what you say,
how that message goes. People are gonna interpret it different ways.
So as long as you're not doing anything that is
against your brand or your person or that you're embarrassed about,
you have to let that go. You can't control it.
Would be great. He wants every single person to hit
(01:42:29):
like on his tweet and say we love you and
you're the best, You're the best player. Ever, doesn't work
that way. Lebron and Kobe Bryant try to do that
the first few years of their career. What did their
careers really start taking a big uptick in Kobe started
going to finals as a one set of a one
A and Lebron started going to finals every year because
they realized, we can't please anybody, so I'm not gonna
fight the knuckle headed stuff. This is what Kevin Durant
(01:42:50):
needs to realize. This is what he needs to get
in his head that people are just gonna say this,
And just because Kendrick Perkins is saying it, number one
doesn't make it true. And number two, let the guy
say what he wants. You look petty coming back and
go all I can't have you saying this about me. Dude,
You're Kevin Durant. You're the best player in the NBA
when you're healthy. You're an NBA Finals m v P.
(01:43:11):
You are an m v P in the league. You
are going down as one of the greatest players in
the history of the game. And Kendrick Perkins is trying
to start a TV career. Let that go. But no, no,
he can't. He can't stay away the cupcake. He's got
to fight every single battle because he's not strong enough mentally,
don't want to be stronger mentally. To celebrate the beginning
of our seventh year and to kind of mock Kevin Durant.
(01:43:34):
I was gonna wear a cupcake shirt tonight, and really
I was gonna do it. Not a full cupcake out.
Jason would have made it, though. You should have just
brought in cupcakes. I mean that would have been better.
You know what, Tomorrow is a big Friday. Maybe maybe
I'll make some cupcakes and brings. I'll I'll bring you well, yeah, no,
(01:43:54):
I know, but still wow, Okay, you don't. He had
a big short of jan Illinois was legal as January.
Feet already got problems longer than you get into a
Bears game. Yeah, no kidding, What do you want, Potter
go to a Bears game? Are you kidding? I need
the pot if I'm gonna go to the Bears game.
All right, I gotta watch Mitchell Robinski played for four corners.
You know what we should do, though, We should all
(01:44:14):
send uh shows that Kadi should binge watch to pass
the time while he can't play basketball. Oh, we got
more of this coming up in ninety seconds, but first,
hey be sure to catch live editions of The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific. Look, well, Kevin Durant is fighting this
big war with Kevin Nick Perkins, and I was the greatest.
(01:44:36):
You weren't the greatest Oklahoma City thunderplayer of all time?
Sheerly by the years that Russell Westbrook played, he was
better than you were. You went to the finals together.
But listen, that's Kevin Durant as far as Westbrook goes.
Why did he get the big ovation right to get
the big ovation before the game? Got the big ovation
at the end. When Paul George came back played his
(01:44:57):
first game, he got some polite applause, and when Evan
Durant came back, he got booed mercilessly. There is nothing
that fans value more in sports than what loyalty. Winning
and losing not as important. Fans would almost rather have
a superstar they can hang their hat on for their
(01:45:18):
entire life, rather than here's one championship with a guy
we borrowed right to go win and then he was gone.
Right now, there's you have a situation like, what who
are fans going to love more? Oklahoma City and Russell
Westbrook or Toronto and Kawhi Leonard. Right, Toronto is gonna
have that one year Kawhi Leonard was there, but he
was there for one year. I mean, at the end
(01:45:40):
of his career, it's gonna be he was here for
one year, we won the championship, and oh my god,
I can't believe it. Oklahoma City is always going to
have Russell Westbrook. There's always gonna be people in Westbrook, Jerseys.
It can mean just as much as somebody being there
and winning a championship. This is why Westbrook gets the
love and Kevin Durant doesn't. And that's pretty simple, you know.
(01:46:02):
It's it's not a it's it's not a tough equation
to go, well, why is so and so getting boot
Both of them came together Westbrook and and and Durant.
They were both here, this is here, we're drafted coming
here one year after the other. And when Kevin Durant left,
that upset a lot of fans. Russell Westbrook stayed, That
made a lot of fans happy, signed a contract extension.
(01:46:22):
You know. It's also where he went. He went to
join the team that they were trying to beat. But
that's just it. If he'd gone anywhere else, if he'd
gone and run to New York and become a member
of the Knicks, if he had to do that to
you or gone to Chicago. I mean, just pick another spot.
He was never going to Mike, probably not, but and
that's part of the anger that started his day of
(01:46:43):
Twitter when he was getting mocked for going to New
Jersey because nobody's gonna care. Well, it's always gonna be
fantasy to me. Yes, they're now the Brooklyn Nets and
have been, but just the idea that they're they're never
gonna be the Knicks from branding and and their size
scope whatever. Right, it's the battle that you have here
(01:47:05):
in l A of the Clippers and the Lakers trying.
But will you ever get there with your superstars? But
it's it's the point with with Durant of you. You
didn't just leave, right you You went and said, all right, now,
I'm just gonna squash any chance you ever have of
getting over the top, right, I mean you you were
(01:47:27):
a soul crusher. Right. It was one thing when the
franchise gets moved, but it's another when you just say,
all right, I'm tapping out and here's where I'm going.
Like he could have announced he could have done a
Lebron James special and announced any other team in the NBA,
the hatred and anger would be nowhere near the same
because he gave him a decade, right, I mean, he
(01:47:48):
gave him a full decade and they hadn't gotten over,
and then they moved on and now you you just
have a whole reset. But for for Kevin Durant, the
realit and he is he he made made a choice
and he if he regrets it, find I would hope
he's doing all this with a smile on his face,
(01:48:09):
Like every once in a while when I see these
Twitter bursts like is he having fun? Is this tongue
in cheek or is he really this salty angry I'm
gonna go and and having this inability to sleep and
gain any kind of peace. And I think I agree
with Frostburgy. I think it's the latter. I'd hope for
the former, given the level of success he's achieved, But
(01:48:31):
I just don't get that at any point this isn't
just a guy that's that's grappling with the decisions he
made and the fact that they couldn't get over. So, yeah,
the fans fully expected this reaction to night and Russ
soaked in every second of it. Twitter at how about

What quarterback is under the most pressure to produce a victory?
(01:49:16):
Sam ll stop. He is under pressure, but not that
kind of pressure. That's coming up next right here on Fox.

six times on camera. Guy slide over. Maybe our pre
(01:49:59):
show on our six year anniversary tonight, Twitter at how
about a fresca at Swollen Dome if you want to
follow along with some of the fun going on. There's
trying to ask an answer as many questions between Fox
and ESPN, you know, being doing now doing six years
at both places as I have. We'll get to some
of this stuff coming up in about ten minutes. But
(01:50:22):
with the divisional playoff round upon us, we have what
many people say is the best weekend in the National
Football League because it's the best eight teams that are left.
We've gotten rid of the wild card riff raff and
teams only deserve to be around for one game. And
this is when you get the best level of play
because you still have four games. You still have the
(01:50:42):
best teams playing, and this is the weekend that everybody
pays the most attention to. Which quarterback is under the
most pressure to win this weekend? Well, I mean from
the young guys, it's Lamar Jackson. Yeah, but even if
he loses, he still had a phenomenal year, and he's
gonna be the m v P of the NFL. Yes,
(01:51:04):
yes he will be. But all of the build up,
all the hype, you know, how quickly will people cut
him down? Bill Pollyon will start struck around. But now,
but even even if he loses, he's still a young
quarterback who's going to be the mv GROWING and everything else.
(01:51:26):
But folks with their poison pens, you know how they
are right. But still he's not gonna get that because
he's still that player. It's not him. It's not Garoppolo,
it's not DeShawn Watson, it's not Patrick Mahomes. All of
these are young quarterbacks who have achieved. They have a
lot of their careers ahead of them. DeShawn Watson's here
on house money may have been dead. We won the
times during the regular that game was and that game
(01:51:48):
was just insane against them. I was just stupid. It's
not Russell Wilson. The guys already won a super Bowl,
he's been to two. It's not Kirk Cousins or Ryan Tannehill.
Because let's face it, nobody really expects him to do
anything this round. If they do, it's a bonus if not,
it's well, that was Kirk Cousins, and everybody's waiting one
bad game from Ryan Tannhill and everybody's gonna go see
(01:52:09):
he stinks. He just undid twelve weeks of playing really well.
We tell you he stinks. Now. It will potentially cost
him millions upon millions of dollars if he's terrible. Yeah, yeah,
if he its terrible, but he's still going to continue
his career and maybe as a starter in Tennessee, he's
still gonna get paid. He's done a lot. The guy
(01:52:30):
under the most pressure is Aaron Rodgers. And it's not
even close because Aaron Rodgers is going to face two
things this weekend. He's got the time running out on
his career. This may be the best chance he gets.
Green Bay is home for a playoff game and they
had to buy how many more years is gonna be
like this? Now? You're hoping that Aaron Jones, as we've said,
(01:52:52):
it's just like when John Elway got Terrell Davis at
the end of his career, And it's now really Aaron
Jones driven because the Packers are Aaron's own driven. When
he plays and he plays well and he gets the
football the Packers win. This is not Aaron Rodgers bailing
the Packers out with four yard games. He's not done
that this year. If they lose, it's a missed opportunity.
(01:53:13):
And what the number one story in the world is
going to be on Monday morning, whether it speak for
yourself or First Things First or undisputed, whatever it is,
it's going to be, is Aaron Rodgers still elite? He
did not have a great He had a really good year,
had a Pro Bowl caliber. You're one of the five
best quarterbacks arguably in the NFC. But it's going to
(01:53:35):
be can he still do it? Is he still elite?
Is he still Super Bowl Aaron Rodgers? Or is he not?
That's what he's playing for, because everybody will waste no
time jumping up and down on his head saying, see,
it's not Aaron Rodgers time anymore. He's not good. He
can't do it. They need help. The Packers can't do it.
(01:53:55):
When that's gonna be the story on Monday, I guarantee it.
He is under the most pressure to produce a win
this weekend than any of the other guys well, because
they've also been set up over the course of the
year for anybody that's really paid attention outside of their
local market as a team that won a lot, but
not with great flair. Right, you had the big past
to Lazard for one of those games early in the season,
(01:54:19):
but beyond Davante Adams, you don't really have another receiving
threat that's consistent. Jimmy Graham pops up now and again
you have the run game with Jones, as you mentioned.
That has been my first question to Mike McCarthy. All Right,
you got this job. Did you learn the error of
your ways when you didn't run Aaron Jones and make
him your feature back out of camp? Uh? Riddle me that, batman.
(01:54:45):
But you have the the opportunity for for Aaron Rodgers,
it might have to go on his shoulder, right, I mean,
you're probably gonna sell out to stop Jones and say
okay and make a right because you've got one guy
that we see with the the catch radius. The other
guys are mostly burners, so throwing the ball down field,
which is exactly what Seattle does a nice matchup. There
(01:55:08):
potentially a foot of shnow for this one, so that
adds to it as well. But when we're talking about
old quarterbacks, the only guy that's everybody keeps driving a
bus over as Tom Brady. Nobody else is looking at Breeze,
nobody else is looking at Rogers. It's saving a bus
or top. I missed him let me go back, let
me go back, and said they're just rolling back and
(01:55:29):
forth over his career. These other guys have gotten a pass.
Not so. On Sunday Twitter at how about a Fresco,
Mike gets swollen? Don't we got Jake Glazer stopping buying
about a half hour more on our six year anniversary
and also coming up next, Terrell Owens had an idea
that wasn't the worst idea when it comes to Tom Brady,

Over Baby hour is I don't know how many years
have been doing this. A couple of years, almost two
years too, Yeah, I think all right. So with that
being said, here is Alex tide Shirt's best of the
slide Over Baby that none of these things that you're
(01:56:37):
gonna hear we're taken out of context. I love Calvin
Johnson more than my own father. I've been rear ended
three times, never gave up on it. I'm gonna eat
that ass up. I'm gonna eat that tiny but the
ass up. Now it was limp and dangly. I had
to pull it out, but it was getting onto my face.
It was, oh, oh, oh, you did it. You know,
(01:57:01):
my boyfriend looks like a catfish. I have to stay
off the end. Cookies good, I like grease stuff, po
give daddy a kiss, Jay hart Smith's huge boner, trying
to get a spot in Whenever Weekend? What's with the farmer? Sponsored?
(01:57:26):
Farmer sponsored the farmers. So that's just some of the
things that has been said on the show. I remember
saying most of them. I've been rearended three times. I
don't remember that, but I obviously how early in the
tenure did my porky pig moment, like the first couple
of months. Was the first week, Yeah, I think that
(01:57:46):
was the first time when I said, Okay, let's see
what Harmon can take if we get play your porky
pig impression back, I said, you want to sluggle Bunny
with daddy? That was that wasn't it? The most money
you're going down on? So the thing is he was
already almost done when I was getting in there. Yeah,
just a couple a couple of few. Yeah, yeah, that's
(01:58:09):
that's that's that's that's kind of how it goes there.
But how many times over six years did you reference
Alie Hayes? Oh? I got really, you got really years?
As I started that question, well the reasons because tonight
I've said many things about Alie Hayes that that like
the average person shouldn't know, but I I do. And
(01:58:31):
that's very creepy and it was super Fano. Are we
going to Vegas in a couple of weeks sweating right now?
Should we go to the awards? We're staying in Frostburg's
room for the a VN Awards, were staying in this
It's all good, but now because it is our six
year Anniverse Room show. Uh Alex tie Shirt, who has
been with us? How many years? Now? Four? No? I
think it's almost three years. Oh, no, four, I had
(01:58:52):
to quit. If it was four his hair would be
If it was four years, I would be on the floor.
Um hit Punzel. Uh. Tysher came to us a three
years ago about halfway and we had Lauren Gardner before
him is our technical director who did a great job.
Ty Shirt's taken this to the next level. We have
big brother Jake, have big brother Jake for a while.
To Jake is awesome. He actually came in to visit
(01:59:12):
us not too long ago, but I really want to
and I he didn't post any picture hanging out with us. No,
no he didn't, but post pictures of all these other
guys he meets and hangs out. And I'm kidding. He
loves you guys. But here's and I don't care how
many years he wind up working together. This is always
gonna wind up. No, not you and I. This is
(01:59:34):
always gonna wind up being because you know we we
talked about our us. You know, is that is that
you're not making it too seven? This is as far
as you know you are This is the best thing
and my favorite thing that Alex Tysher has done. And
this will always get a laugh, and I will always
laugh in the same spot kind of like, well, no
matter how many times I see the putting on the
(01:59:55):
rit scene from Young Frankenstein, I will always laugh at
him going. In fact, that was on the radio yesterday
as I was driving home because of the eighties channel,
and I'm singing just like Peter Boil going super dupe.
But it's also getting a run because it's gonna be
the next thing adapted for the stage that's from one
(02:00:16):
of those live TV events. But this is this is
your favorite one ever, right, this is Alex tight shirts.
Don't play the butt fumble, don't screw me with the
butt fumble. This is Alex Tight Shurt's Dark Side of
the Moon creation right here, wait for it, we gotta
play it. Tom Moore than maybe you're gonna bush play
(02:00:37):
here and then Sang gets hit. The ball is loose
and it's alive. I have never seen this before in
my life. Watch this. Vince will Fork is gonna throw
Brandon Moore back into his quarterback. This is football. This
is what Reggie White used to do to people fork
and just lift him off their ground. Mark Sanchez not
(02:00:58):
expecting it, and it was the backside of Brandon Moore,
the knock the ball out. No, thank you, that's that's great.
That's not your creation. You would think by this point
you would have a better version of it. No, there's
no better drop than right in. Sometimes you don't mess
with the classics. But uh, there are many things. Many
of the drops we play on the show here we
have all the time. And look, tishirt really adds to
(02:01:21):
the value of this show by it. It really it's
it's it's a different show when he's not working. And
certain times I'm waiting for something to be played or
a drop, or keep waiting. But uh, this this is
Alex Tischer's dark side of the Moon. I think you're
going to agree stay off from week stay stay all
(02:01:43):
from week duck just because you have this day, stay off.
This makes Kellerman's alarm cloth. You put it into a
keyboard now he's on stage. Maybe because I mean, with
some of the hot takes that have been coming out
(02:02:04):
of Mr Smith's mouth, not yours, the other Mr Smith.
Some folks wondering get the head and been dabbling right
a little Jason's emojis. I could tell you where the
next I headed, but I can't, So I can't tell
you this. I'm just picturing maxicolor and waking up like
with a with a blindfold on and here time to
(02:02:26):
get up because you get that big thump right yeah.
Uh so a big night for us here obviously, and
thank you for all the support. Uh look, we wouldn't
be on the air if if you would didn't listen,
and uh, thank you all. Our show is now on
over four affiliates coast to coast, which is a huge accomplishment.
(02:02:47):
When we first started here at Fox Are, our previous boss,
Bruce Gilbert said, listen, you're gonna be on about two
hundred affiliates and that's just the way it is, because
you know, that's just the way things are designed us
not it's not bad, it's just that's what you're gonna
be on. And now here we are. And we told
us that a couple of years in. Here we are
about three years after that and we're at over four
(02:03:08):
d affiliates and county and it's great because you know,
we talked to our affiliate marketing director, Kurt Crutchmore all
the time, does a phenomenal job, gets new stations on
and and and and does a great job out of
Arizona with that. And he he told me something a
few months ago that really started to cut through, because
(02:03:29):
the with the way Fox and Fox Sports Radio has
really leap frogged UH in the past few years. He said,
you know what it's like right now with our programming
is is all the stations that are getting a chance
to listen to us. It's like that scene and that
thing you do when the the their song is played
on the radio for the first time and everybody's running
down the street trying to hear it and trying to
(02:03:50):
get into the television store that splits playing the radios
and playing the song. He goes, that's what it's like
with people taking our programming. And we've added some huge
stations in the past few years and in past months
in Boston and Washington and Philadelphia, and you know, it's
it's been a great run. That I hope we get
six more years, you know, at least from this. I
hope we I hope I at least make it to
the end of Bobby Beniez contract that that that might
(02:04:13):
be my life. That might be my Tiday, that might
be my retire I'll retire, but that's like five I'll
be I'll be too many then are you kidding? Sixties?
Be my sixties then yeah, but we'll be able to
don't have to see graphic. Hearing the show is like
the first time i'd fight club getting punched in the mouth. Well,
(02:04:37):
I mean, that's want more of it, and you know
the first time, I mean, you have to fight, I'm
not gonna make it. You know you are not the
way you eating. You could have one bad habit. My
bad habit is, but I don't eat awful all the time.
That's the thing that's not knock. When you should trade,
you should trade. You would gladly take my doctor visit
(02:05:00):
Trump's box. Then you I have to listen. My doctor
will tell you I'm the healthiest radio host in the world.
Tell them tell them that lies. Well, you paid that
last bill. Good for you, but the insurance checked out.
Now that we've been doing this show for six years
now and it's officially I've been here longer doing the
show with you guys. Then I was doing All Night
(02:05:21):
on ESPN, which really is is something I spent a
lot of time thinking about today because I felt like
I was there for so long and here I feel
we're still rolling and going and things are great. You know.
The one of the biggest differences between Fox Radio, Fox
Sports Radio, and ESPN Radio is this is that ESPN
(02:05:42):
Radio likes to micro manage everything you did, and everything
I did, and everything a lot of hosts did. And
the freedom here at Fox to be able to drive
opinions and entertain and be fun and be funny and
and get outside the box and give people a a show,
a network really to listen to where you can be
(02:06:02):
entertained and get everything you want right. Because the main
focus what I think every time we go on the
air is that for every few minutes we get to talk,
we gotta I gotta give you something you and I
gotta give people who are listening something right, whether it's
something really funny, whether it's breaking news, whether it's a
big opinion, we gotta give you something. And you listen
(02:06:23):
to a lot of shows out there that sometimes sit
around and just you know, talk about eight topics for
five minutes and then give out a phone number and
take phone calls for for an hour, or just you know,
grab as for a while with no real point. And
that's the one thing I'm always conscious of is always
always giving listeners and giving you something to listen to.
But the freedom that we have here at Fox that
(02:06:46):
they don't care what I tweet. They don't as long
as it's something that's not embarrassing to the net or
something that's that's bad talking talking about the Mets need
to get into. They don't care how controversial we are.
When I'm saying something controversial about sports, there's more emphasis
on the fun and entertainment. There's less micro managing. It's
(02:07:07):
radio being run by radio people, which is a really
big deal because we have people here, are bosses here,
Don Martin and Scott Shapiro that are radio people, and
you and I are radio people in Frostburg and tie shirt.
And it's a difference in the programming when it's run
by radio people. Where at ESPN, when I was there,
it was starting to be run by television people. And
(02:07:27):
these are people with no backgrounds and TV. But that's
who's gonna run radio because they wanted to run radio.
They wanted to they wanted to do it. And you
can hear the difference. You can hear the difference in
that in that that you can tell. ESPNS philosophy is
let's just get really big guests on every five minutes,
and that's what it's gonna be. And we're gonna be
able to play sound from our shows on the radio
(02:07:49):
on Sports Center later on, and that that's the thing.
And I get that, But what's the person listening getting?
All right, so so great, I'm gonna hear so and
so talk about this for five minute, But what does
it mean. Let's break it down, Let's get into something.
Let's create content. And the content we're able to create
here is great. You know, ESPN the philosophy was always
and I've had a couple of bosses tell me this
(02:08:11):
when I was there. Have fun, but don't have too
much fun. And I go, all right, I kind of
get that in a vacuum that don't have too much fun.
You want to be able to stay focused and stay
on topic. Come on, don't don't have too much fun.
I mean, people turn on the radio to be entertained.
It's like going to a party. I want to turn
on the radio. I want to be entertained with something.
Sometimes it's a strong opinion. Sometimes it's it's being funny,
whatever it is. They want to be entertained. Nobody goes
(02:08:33):
to a party and says, I want to have fun,
but not too much fun. I don't have too much
fun at this part. You kind of want to have fun.
The only thing you say is you don't want to
maybe drink too much and be become the jackass in
the room on your head. But yeah, I mean for us,
it's the all right, here's the big stories of the day,
some fun stuff. We kick links back and forth, chat
a little bit, laugh at some silliness we see over
(02:08:54):
the course of the day, and then we come in
and get after. It's been the same with Justin throughout
the entire run, and that continuity is a is a
wonderful thing to have. We we fight like brothers and family, don't. Yeah,
and then you know, did we just become touch again? Right?
You know? And then we go to our separate corners.
(02:09:16):
You get a week off for holiday or whatever, you
come back. I said to my kids this morning, I
don't think we've laughed that this hard and had as
much fun for a five straight days. Then we did
coming back out of the holiday right in a while,
because we had a bunch of tough stories, a grind
of you know, look, we've covered some really terrible things. Yeah,
(02:09:39):
we haven't laughed this hard since the Mets played last
there's there that well, and yeah, that takes us back
to uh June when Dames mattered. But the just the idea. Uh,
you know, we've covered some tough stories and those are
hard nights. As fun as an entertaining as supposed to be,
they can be draining. And I know, you know, you say, wow,
I do is for a living whatever. I mean, there
(02:10:01):
are nights where it feels like work. Most of the nights.
It doesn't like we come in, we have some fun,
we interact with you all on Twitter, Instagram, wherever, and
you know we we leave got it with a laugh,
going all right, what's next? How do we top that?
So I mean that that's the exciting thing. And through
six years and hopefully six, twelve, eighteen more, how long
(02:10:22):
has been he has contract forever? And just remember the
Mets finished three games out of the wild Cardsbody remembers, remembers,
nobody remembers. It wasn't the worst thing you could say
about what the next move for the Patriots quarterback is
why we'll tell you coming up next right here. Fox.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
(02:10:44):
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
Radio app. Song goes out there, Ali, he's not Fox
Sports Radio The Jackson Smith Show with Mike Harmon. Well,
you know you gotta make sure you give a last name.
You gotta have a surname or maiden name or whatever
with that, because you just say, Ali, we got some
Atlee's that the show. Alie Hayes, No, he wishes it
(02:11:09):
was his girl. Well, I mean it's to all the
alleys out there because your click on it, it doesn't
make or your girl click aty click click click click
click click. Uh our six year anniversary show. We got
Jay Glazer coming up in a few minutes to talk
NFL with us. Uh. He's got some great stuff on
Tom Brady. And actually the guy who had the best
stuff on Tom Brady today turned out to be tarall Owens. Surprise, surprise, surprise.
(02:11:32):
TiO thinks that the Dallas Cowboys should sign Tom Brady.
Doesn't believe they're all in on Dak Prescott and Brady
is the solution for the cowboys. This starting to gain
traction a lot of places TMZ, a lot of websites
throwing this out. And of course every time Tera Owen
(02:11:53):
says something, Oh, by the way, Teo, a guest on
our very first stace here on Fox, t O, Warren
Moon and somebody else where was on was on our
very first show. I'm gonna go back in the archives
see if I can find And usually t O says
something and people just dismissed go as t O. But
this isn't the worst idea for a couple of reasons.
(02:12:14):
The first is that your nuts if you don't think
there's gonna be crazy teams coming out of the woodwork
when Tom Brady does his free agent tour. There's gonna
be teams you're not expecting. They're gonna go wait a minute,
you have a quarterback that's pretty good, that has done
a few things, and whoa, whoa, wha, you're you're gonna
kick this guy to the curb for Tom Brady. It's
Tom Brady. They are going to be teams who are
(02:12:35):
seduced who was seduced and minded by the Ducks, who
are going to be seduced by Tom Brady and thinking
that he can still be a great quarterback as long
as he has good people around him and good weapons.
And you will be surprised at the rumors and sources
blank blank team to meet with Tom Brady, blank blank
interested in Tom Brady and what these teams with established
(02:12:57):
quarterbacks are gonna do. They're gonna reach out through back
channels if Brady wants to meet with them, all right, great,
If not, well we'll deny it. Well no, no, no, no, no,
this doesn't happen. No, we still love you as our quarterback.
So there's gonna be crazy teams that are gonna come
out for Tom Brady. The other part is this, We've
looked a lot at what teams would be the best
fit for Tom Brady because of what they can offer him.
(02:13:20):
But one part of it we gotta start getting into
is that what about what Brady wants? And one thing
Brady wants is he wants to be able to win
as many Super Bowls as possible the next four years,
because I'm sure he's gonna sign a four year deal
wherever it is he needs to win. He has enjoyed
the path of least resistance to the Super Bowl his
(02:13:42):
entire career because he's played in the a f C East,
which has been a bad division. Teams haven't gotten out
of their own the way. You got a couple of
rise up moments, but generally they as they fell as
quickly as they showed it. I don't care how good
you are, there's gonna be years where you don't win
your division because another team they've put it together, they
had a good draft, they got it right in free agency,
but nobody, nobody. The a f C has been terrible.
(02:14:03):
So Brady has had a pass to the playoffs basically
every year he's been in the league. He needs to
go to a team that is going to have a
pass pretty much through their division into the playoffs. Can
he go to the a f C C a f
C North, No, he's got Well, you've got Ben Roethlisberger.
Now you have Lamar Jackson not going there. There's too
many good not happening well, and he'll have Joe Burrow
(02:14:26):
not going there. Can't do that. There's too many good
players there. Uh NFC West, What boy? You got the
rising forty nine? Has you got? The Rams are good?
Kyler Murray is there suddenly Russell Wilson. I'm not going
to not that one of those teams would take him,
but still there's only a couple of divisions out there
where he can join a team and vault them to
the playoffs where they would be the prohibitive favorite and
(02:14:48):
they would likely win every year. And those two divisions
are the a f C South and the NFC East.
Those are the two weakest divisions in football clearly. The
a f C South, you have the Carolina Panthers are
starting to start over, but still got the NFC South. Sorry,
you have Cam Newton probably one more year, Drew Brees
and the Saints look great. But is Drew Brees nearing
(02:15:10):
the end, so that potentially could be a situation. Got
Tampa Bay and Jamis Winston. He's gonna throw forty interceptions
next year. But those two divisions, the South and the
NFC East, are the paths of least resistance, and Brady
needs that because to try to get over Patrick Mahomes
in the a f C West is gonna be tough.
And the Charges have been mentioned as a big destination
(02:15:31):
for him. But boy, you're looking up at Mahomes, that's
gonna be tough. You don't want to get We've seen
what happens to Tom Brady when he's got to even
play on wild card weekend. You want to be able
to say, hey, let's rack up the winds. We have
home field and that's easiest way. So when you start
handicapping teams tom Brady can go to. That's a big
part of it, that path of least resistance to get
to the playoffs. Chargers, Raiders, Raiders with a good offensive line,
(02:15:53):
good running back already, question of the receivers. They have
got a good tight end and Waller's so may be
you're looking at that as you you look to open
a new home that's been bought, brought up a bunch.
So you have the Oakland Las Vegas Raiders, the Chargers,
we've talked about, the offensive personnel all all along, like
(02:16:13):
ready come in. Part of it is going to be
system right. You want to start over versus what you've
known your entire career. So that's part of the consideration
as you go, uh wild Cards. We've talked about the Bears.
You've mocked me a bunch. I've seen a couple of
good mock ups. He looks good in that number twelve Jersey.
Don't get me wrong, but you also have. I mean, look,
(02:16:36):
Tennessee's gotten Tannehill, been getting rid of Mariota. That's a team.
That's that's an interesting watch, right, Former former Patriots teammate
and Vrabel running the show, Derrick Henry and that running game,
good offensive line? Right? How often have I extolled the
virtues of Roger Staffold showing up there? You miss him,
don't you Rams fans, even though Sean McVeigh has gonna
(02:16:59):
fire every on else and no blame here. Hey, my
offense was just fine. Uh, Fossil and Phillips they were
the problems. Uh, good job by him. But yeah, it's
it's it's gonna be interesting. Because Fox actually, on their
their Instagram earlier of NFL on Fox put up the
wheel of Brady so it had his head in the
spinning wheel and there were an awful lot of pie
(02:17:21):
pieces on that wheel. Man. A lot of teams to consider,
but Dallas, Yeah, they haven't committed to doc, nor should
they have necessarily in this process. Teams to watch out
for the Giants, Joe, Judge, Gisella, New York, watch out,
telling you watch out, hey, Daniel Jones, don't you so?
What about Tom Brady coming up? In nineties seconds? You've
(02:17:41):
got Jay Glazer stopping by with that and more? What
is he hearing could be the destination for Brady? Also
what's next for the Browns? Because you know we're always
asking that. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific. Joining us now on the hotline for
all the big NFL news NFL on Fox Inside or
(02:18:03):
Extraordinaire Jay Glazer, Jay Glazer, who you look at Celester
Stallan's social media pages tonight? Jay Glazer, you're hanging out
with stallone al Pacino, Guy Fiery. Where's our invitation? I
don't at this story? Oh weeks ago? So long you've
posted it now again? And you know he's been up
working on like nineteen Rambos. When I brought solon't call
(02:18:27):
me and he said, Hey, you wanna come and watch
Joshua's fighting my ountse I'm like, uh yeah, dude, you're Rocky.
Sure any chair with your friend Guy Fierry eating town
Because my brothers don't care a lick about Rocky Ramble,
but they love Guns, drives and dots and asked going
out to a weird dinner that night where I put
(02:18:48):
together cool you know, like I put together crazy communities.
And so I'm going out town one night here in
l A and uh play named Isabel, my buddy Bill
Howard's place, how was going out with me? Fiery Dave Batista,
Mike McCarthy, Michael Strahan, My Little Fighter, Aba Knight, and
Nate Lawyer. Ok. Yeah, crazy there, right, bizarre? So then
(02:19:15):
I said, yeah, I'm actually going to Gao kaie tonight something.
So he goes, oh my gosh, I call a guy,
told me you tell me you love me? He goes,
I love you. I got no tell me you love me.
He says, right, I love you. Because he wants you come,
want to come watch fighters out tomorrow? He goes, Oh
my gosh, I'm supposed to go home and uh, I'm
doing this Food Network show. Let me come up, wife,
She calls his wife. He shows, let me let me
(02:19:35):
get this straight. Do you have a chance to go
with Glazier to watch a boxing match at Stallone's house
with Rocky at his Austmark And he said yeah. She says,
you're an idiot if you come home tonight, he tells me, hey,
fight out for Stallo. Who's I'm gonna come cook and
I'll make his daughters my shoes chefs. To find out
(02:19:56):
who's coming, to give me the guest list and I'll cook.
I called stowing Up. I said, hey, listen, and I
don't saloon slide. He's come to Unbreakable. Uh love him.
He's great. He's hilarious. Obviously he's rocky and you know
uh Ben Rambo and he's hilarious. We love him so
great for the Unbreakable performance culture. So um so I
called him and said, hey, guys, gonna come be the
(02:20:18):
shoe chef, bring a bunch of food. And he goes like,
you hope to do that. I'm just gonna get Bulbary
Street pizza and cold cutts. I'm like, dude, got Ferry
Coney wholes were not having mulbary feet pizza and cold
cuts coming out. I said, how many people a is
he cooking for? He's gonna bring food. He goes on,
it's me, you guy, Puccino, Schwartz, Eggers, sugar, Ray Leather.
(02:20:41):
I'm like, get the hell out of here. And then
I called Stray and I go, look, you're taking meat everything,
you know, all the obscar stuff. So I'm gonna take
you here. And they're a rocky statue at the end
of it infinity pool, and like straight, we'll take a
picture of you and Stray and pulls me aside. He
goes here, dude, you pulled up some stuff for the past,
but nothing like this. So like, trust me, dude, I know, Like, mom,
(02:21:03):
how the heck did I get here? And Guy ends
up bringing about six thousand dollars in Kobe beef that
he cooked and a thousand dollars from white and then
and then David Blanne came over and did magic for everybody.
Well that sounds like a night. Hey. If I've got
(02:21:25):
no idea, what called on my Instagram? I have a
bunch of stuff on there. I have no one wants
to loan decide tonight to post it. I just uh,
I just texted him something about it too. No idea
why next time that happens? If Guy has to stay,
I can go host guys grocery games because I watch
every episode, all right, I can host tuple. I could
do meals from the middle, whatever you want. My friends
(02:21:47):
and I were all morons, as you can tell. But
you know, we work our bucks, off work the world
and that's why I appreciate him. Whatever you want to
say about guy, if he ever, he out works the world,
works everybody, which is why he is where he is.
And he's as genuine as could. He takes me in
the public beach last two years ago, and I think, really,
He's like, I'm taking my favorite bar ever and we
land our favorite restaurant. It's a private clubs place and
(02:22:12):
it's literally like the raccooned lots from the Honeymoon up
and he was like, how great is this place? And
then the server like Miketer brow and split and like
I'm dead, sir. And I was his spot. He loved
it with his place him Jay Glazer with us here
at the Jason Smith show in Mike Carmen, I don't
(02:22:35):
know where to go with it. We gotta talk football,
do we can't. We can't get paid with I mean,
that's like a drop the mic moment for you. Um
so again check out you on Instagram on Twitter and
stallone on Instagram posting all this stuff right now, uh,
from the past couple of weeks. All right, So football wise,
Jay obviously. I mean, I'm just thinking about guy. But
Tom Brady, everybody's weighing in. He puts out the post
(02:22:57):
speaking of Instagram yesterday, basically thanking the fans are all
his time in New England. Where are things right now?
As far as Brady the Patriots in their relationship, well,
I think that you know, this is the first time
he's ever free because they can't. He's only keep her
hometown discounts, and I don't think he wants to give
a hometown discount this time. I think all these years
he's like yo, and I've always done right by them.
(02:23:17):
Let them do right by me now, um, And you
know he's always been certainly not the whole just yet
he should be. Um. They can't franchise Tagham, so he is,
without a doubt and unreastricted free agent if they don't
resign him. But you know, I think with teams people
some people said, well, you know, you can go somewhere
(02:23:38):
with Josh mc daniel. Well there was only one place
without a quarterback in that Panthers. It's not They're not
going to go to Cleveland and get rid of Baker. Okay,
if Josh McDaniels goes there. So the only thing I
could see is, you know, I think we've all heard it.
A team like the Chargers who needs to boost their attendance,
A team like the Raiders, if they go to Vegas,
(02:23:58):
they do sell those seats. Makes an awful lot of sense.
You said to him, Tom, uh, you tell us for
the offenses, and here's the checkbook, and you fill it out.
And just however many comments you want to put in
there do you put in there? And he still, I mean,
Tom Brady is still that will be one of the
biggest draws we've ever seen. Now, let me just put
it in a little perspective here. When Peyton Manning was
(02:24:20):
a free agent, the reason why he chose the Broncos
or Brothers one was the relationship with John fox and
two because they were called from Buddies on La. It
wasn't it was him and Foxy and and too um
the other teams. I remember winning the Titans, and then
the offense community may been like Chris Palmer's and he said, Peyton,
(02:24:42):
here's the offense you want to, you know, take a
look at this study up in the sweet defense. And
Peyton was trying to remember rehab at that point for
the next and he went into the Broncos, and Bronco said, hey,
we know you put a hundred percent of everything you do,
so we're assuming you're gonna put a hundred percent into
your rehab. Because you tell us what the offense is.
We don't need to spend any time learning a new offense.
(02:25:02):
And that's a payton either. Hear, yes, I I spend
all my time we have and getting myself right. I
know the offense. So whoever takes Tom Brady really should
consider doing the exact same thing. Well as we we'll
have the quarterback carousel spinning. But the coaching stop you
mentioned Cleveland, that's the last one with an opening. Is
McDaniel's gonna end up being the guy? How wide open
(02:25:23):
is their net because they're not competing with anybody anymore.
They are over the map, and it's it's by the day,
by the hour, by the minute. You know, when some
candidates went in there, they have a list of about
twelve now I think general manager candidates that two candidates
about that and you we're gonna have to help you
pick up the gm um. And then other guys went
(02:25:46):
in there and didn't even show on the list. So
they constantly are, you know, talking to teams. They want
to interview your guys for g MS, and they're saying, wow,
we don't. They're all over the place. There's not they
don't have a direction, they don't have a conviction of
what they want to do, and I think that's doing
the problem with the Browns for a long time. You
(02:26:06):
can follow me on Twitter at jay Glazer. That is
at jay Glazer. Uh maybe the new Twitter account the
Adventures of Jay Glazer. That's gonna be a reality show.
We're working on that also at Unbreakable. Checkout Vets and
Players dot org. J as always man appreciate it. Uh
say heid a guy for me. We'll talk to you
next WEA and happy birthday tonight. Great stuff there from
(02:26:26):
Jay Glazer. How about that? Look at some of these
teams for Tom Brady Twitter at about a Fresca, Mike
and Swollen. Don't we finish our six year anniversary show
coming up next with a play of the night and
a basketball story that will warm your heart, well at
least everybody but Kevin Durance Tom more than It Fox.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
(02:26:49):
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
Radio Whip Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon, live from the Geiko Studios,
celebrating our six year anniversary here on the show tonight.
Six years Mike Harmon and I have been together. I've
(02:27:10):
been doing this show officially longer than I did All
Night on ESPN. It's been a phenomenal run. Very excited
to continue on here. Just getting warmed up this shift in. Guys,
you're fired, all right, don't forget my last check. Time
Now for the play of the night. Great news. There's
a quick and easy way you could save money. Switched
(02:27:31):
to Geiko. It only takes fifteen minutes to see if
you could say fifteen percent or more in car insurance.
Go to Geico dot com and see how much you
could save. The NBA story you didn't know you needed
tonight was Russell Westbrook's return to Oklahoma City wearing a
no Regrets T shirt, which could have meant I don't
regret leaving or I don't regret staying. For a long
(02:27:52):
time before I left, he had a big night with
thirty four points in Oklahoma City, fans got what they wanted.
They cheered the hell out of Westbrook at the beginning
of the game. They cheered him as he walked off
the court, and he walked off the court getting thumped,
but still thirty four from Russell Westbrook is our play
of the night, Chris Paul three sixty move against McLamore
and missus. It will Lass only shot rebound picked up
(02:28:14):
by Tucker, throws along Atlas and Wetsbrook will jam it
down with two hands and Russell Westbrook connects for thirty points. Tonight,
Radio Network of the Houston Rockets on the call. So
Westbrook has a big night and the story then turns
from being about Russell Westbrook to being about Kevin Durant.
(02:28:36):
This is because while this game is going on, obviously,
look it was a big story. We talked about this
a lot. Tonight, Kendrick Perkins, former teammate of Russell Westbrook
and Kevin Durant Oklahoma City won the championship with the Celtics,
announced on Twitter he was going on TV on ESPN
to talk about how Russell Westbrook has been the greatest
player in Oklahoma City Thunder history. This to me is
(02:29:00):
not debatable because Westbrook was there way longer than Kevin
Durant was, and what Kevin Durant accomplished, he accomplished away
from Oklahoma City, different Jersey. James Harden was not there
long enough, so that's the answer. However, Kevin Durant didn't
see it that way, And after Kendrick Perkins put up
they're gonna go on and talk about how Russell Westbrook's
the greatest player in OKAC Thunder history, Katie decided to
(02:29:23):
slide into the d m s and respond on Twitter
with absolute fire. Yeah. So this got fueled a little
bit by a guy who works for the Celtics and
manages their official team content. Just got a pushing stuff
out there, and per Perkins, Hey, Kevin left the door
open and Russ walked right in, and so this guy
(02:29:46):
responds again, and then Perk goes, well, Katie lost in
the second round without Russ when I was there, So
what does that mean, which immediately gets responded to by Durant. Yeah,
and our starting center Kendrick Perkins averaged a whopping to
you in three during that series, you played hard, though,
Champ now been like thirty seven thousand times. That's the
(02:30:06):
best you've played hard Champ. You haven't shooing three for us.
Little Magic didn't get your video tribute. Rust gave of
the city hope after you lied in everyone's face. It
took the easy out. This is another guy kind of
chiming in and dranko nah, shooting his little shots at
me for a minute here, uh and just going back
but the the Perkins, you know, and some of this
is now starting to find its way off people's timelines
(02:30:30):
as you go. But you know, taking the coward way out.
Truth be told, you don't feel like a real Champ.
You have a hard time sleeping at night knowing you
took the coward way out. Uh. And and more of
vernacular uh like that. So it goes back and forth.
But Kevin Durant, once again, just can't stop himself, can't
(02:30:51):
help himself, can't fight battles that aren't worth fighting. And
he's someone that needs to be comfortable with the fact
that people are gonna tell you that you suck and
no matter how much you try, not everybody's gonna love you.
And he still thinks that all right, he still needs
people to But I'm the best and I did this.
He thought, I'm gonna go win championships with Golden State
and everybody's gonna be off my back, because that's what
(02:31:12):
happened with Lebron. Lebron decided, I'm going to Miami. I'm
gonna win championships. No one can doubt me anymore. And
that's what he thought was gonna happen for him, and
instead it was, well, you went to a team that
won seventy three games, and people are piste off because
that's what you did. People were pissed at Lebron for
going to the Heat too, but Lebron got to the
point where he didn't care about it anymore. Him and
Kobe both cared deeply what everybody thought. During earlier in

their career. They wanted to be loved by everyone. Then
when they realized we're not gonna get that hug, things
got easier for them. Kevin Durant's got to get to
that point where he he understands that people are gonna
hate me no matter what I try to do. So
why do I try to Why do I try to
fight these battles on social media? Why am I don

he says, I'm myself and I chill. That's his Twitter headline,
the tag that he gives himself. Clearly he can't just chill.
Everybody send him some binge watching options, so he's got
some stuff to occupy his time. I'm sending Smith up
there to give him a hug because he needs a hug.
Twitter at how about Afresca might get swollen down The

Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen. Six
years in, hopefully another six plus, let's go. I mean
what I said last hour. I am not gonna make it.
I'm not going to be working when Bobby Bene a day.
I'll be retired by then. I'll have your head. If
you keep going, I guarantee you I'll have walked away
