(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings, Happy Tuesday, Welcome
inside the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
That buddy, as you and I are aligned in a
big ten kind of day. I got my Michigan sweatshirt on.
You have your Northwestern sweatshirt, although you're over the top
of the Northwestern sweatshirt, a Chicago White Sox hat, and
(00:45):
a black Hawks T shirt. You kind of got everything
going on at once. You missed my bears underpan. I
wouldn't say it was missing them. But what I'm just
trying to picture is it like pictures of dickens Ace.
Is it McMahon's head band. I I don't, I don't know.
We want to McMahon's head band isn't big enough. I'm
(01:10):
just pictured you were and Mike dip is underwear. I
don't know why, but I just know. Man, if you're
looking feeling like and bought some game use I'm feeling
like to coach, I'm sure there's someone in the marketplace
where I can probably procure such an item. I could,
I bet you by the end of the show, I
could buy you a pair of Mike did because life
(01:31):
moren't underwear. I don't know about game war because he
hasn't coached a long time, but life moren't underwear. Spoiler,
he never wore on the Wow. That was all the
way to the super That's why he was coaching freely.
Hey this is this is a fraud. This piece of
underwear isn't real. Hey, buddy, Ryan, hold these that escalated quickly.
(01:55):
Happy Tuesday. And then we got your Syracuse orangein action.
We got the Frostberg's in a great mood because the
Knicks get to play the Lakers to now we do
get to watch that in a little bit. Yeah, that's
gonna be fun against teams under five the slubs on
your your schedule, and that's all that that comes down here.
But you just what watched the Knicks win tonight. Watch
(02:18):
the Knicks win. What a massive game. J Barrett goes
for third. Browns will find the head coach before the
Knicks win this game. Hey, they said by Saturday. Tonight's
before you got no rush. At this point that could happen.
You can screw it up Saturday. You can wait three weeks.
It doesn't matter. At this point, there's nobody else needs
a coach, so we gotta have a competition. You canna
(02:38):
have a reality competition at this point? Yeah, yeah, you really? Yeah,
nobody else looking for a coach. And what's the name
of the show. It's nobody wants to coach Baker Mayfield. Congratulations.
But we will have more on the Browns and their
coaching search because they are now the last real team
left needing a head coach. After the news today, Matt
Rule goes to the Carolina Panthers, leaving Baylor, and the
(02:59):
gi get Judge Joe Brown to be their next head coach.
I'm sorry, but that's who he's gonna be. He's gonna
be Judge Joe Brown. He's not gonna be Joe Judge.
He's gonna be Judge Joe Brown. That's just how it
is that this the Giants went and hired a guy
that they're gonna call him by a name of. I
don't know Judge Joe Brown a real judge or is
he fictitious? Joe? I think he's got to legitimate judge
(03:21):
ship doesn't do you have to have I don't know
do you have to act? I mean Wabner was legit.
I think Judge Judy is legit. She's a real judge. Wow,
take hundreds of millions of dollars. Could not act? Doesn't
make Joe Brown. It's Joe Barmer, Shelby County, Tennessee Criminal
(03:43):
Court judge. Okay, does he have jurisdiction on television or
is it just something that you know? They just play
it up. I'm just making speaking just signed contracts through
the through the scheduling of the show, because the small
claims just with a lot of loud people. Yes, that
that cut. In the end, it's like, here's your thousand dollars,
we pay you out, and we're done. Thanks for the
(04:04):
half hour television t J. Here comes the judge to
coach the giants. Yeah, but how many times are we
gonna see retreads of Joe? You know, judge dread or.
I was just gonna do the judge check one. D J.
Judge dreading his first NFC S tilt with the Cowboys.
D J. Yeah, there's your two hires for the day. Wait,
(04:29):
all the Yankees and Giants playing the same day judges suck? Yeah,
which one wins the back page? I mean, come on,
and DJ no Judge Ryan holding it up here? The
Giants get their man, d J. Judge Ryan hold In
in the first five minutes. Happy anniversary. That's the way
(04:49):
to start a new year, let me tell you, Oh boy,
And you're getting to keep it straight face at this point.
But we did talk about Joe Brown last night, d J.
Joe Judge coming to the house that Ruth Bader Ginsburg,
l York. DJ, well, you'll have no problems. Wait and
(05:15):
wait wait wait t J no doubting judge Clarence Thomas.
He's coaching the Giants now, J. I'm gonna get all
the great uh judges and of the history. I'm not.
I'm gonna I'm gonna get the devil in Daniel Webster
in stuff in here. I'm gonna get I'm gonna get
all the great judges in history. What about the new
(05:36):
guy pounding beers? Oh yeah, that's a tough one. I
like beer. I think we have to ask no football
players do they have a kangaroo court. I know there's
a lot of fines and a lot of crazy fines
that go around. But in baseball, through the minor leagues
and up to major leagues, you've got kangaroo corps. Right,
you did something out of the team rules and whatever.
(05:57):
So I mean, does does he reside over that process
as you go through? M Well made a lot of discipline.
When your name is Jed No, that's true. I mean
you have to. You have to kind of live up
to that name. You can't just be free and loose
with things. You can't just go Yeah, listen, guys, meeting times,
don't worry that. Whenever you want to get there, you
get there. I worked with Belichick. We had to wear
hoodies here, we're all in flowing robes. The red challenge flat.
(06:22):
He's just gonna bang his gabble. He threw the gabble.
The Giants two and seven record as sober as a
judge to the fan base here this season, d j
uh so, all the judges things are gonna come true.
But the look the Giants going higher Joe Judge, who
(06:43):
is the Patriots wide receivers coach and now head coach
of the Giants, someone nobody was talking to. But suddenly
now it's Hey, he's off the Belichick coaching tree and
Joe Judge and it's okay, I I I am stunned,
but not stunned be cause obviously the first question is
how are they going to develop Daniel Jones? You need
(07:05):
a mind? And they've requested an interview with Jason Garrett,
former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, to be there.
O c something we'll get to in a couple of minutes.
But this shows you what I was afraid of that
now is not coming true. Because what do I What
have I always said about the Giants? Boy, the Giants,
things always work out for them, right, it always works
out for them. They're gonna find a way to to
bumble their way away from Sam Donald and they got
(07:28):
Barkley and now they got Daniel Jones. They're gonna find
a way. But this is the New York Giants, Okay.
There are there are three jobs in the NFL that
are as big a deal. It's you got the Giants,
you have the Cowboys and you have the Patriots. Those
are the head coaching jobs. And you want to throw
the Pittsburgh Stelers and but they rarely change head coaches.
(07:48):
But those are the jobs in all of the National
Football League. Those are the jobs. Those are the jobs
that you hear from Jim Harbaugh's agent and Lincoln Riley's
agent and people. You wouldn't be surprised all the Giants
job is open. I want the Giants job. And this
year you had the Giants job and the Cowboys job
both open. The Cowboys got the number one candidate, which
(08:09):
shows you that the Cowboys head coaching job is still
a really good one because people believe in it, because
they have the talent on both sides of the football.
And Mike McCarthy, who was clearly the best candidate, goes
to the Dallas Cowboys. But here are the Giants the job.
Like I said, the Giants should have everybody jumping up
and down saying we want this job. That should be
(08:29):
fighting people away, and instead we are now settling for
the wide receiver's coach of the Patriots. This shows you
that what the perception of the Giants is is this
is no longer a good job. It was a great
job for a long time, but this is no longer
a good job because they should have been able to
have their pick of anybody, even people who were at
(08:49):
candidates coming into the season. But instead this is who
they have to settle for. They can't even get Matt Rule.
All right, Okay, well that's gotta have Matt Rule. This
guy's gotta bring along Daniel Joe Owns. He's the one
last offensive coordinator with pedigree guy Josh McDaniels. Often, no, no, no,
Joe Judge is who they wind up getting. I mean,
so for all the teams in the NFL now can
(09:12):
stand up and say, hey, wait a minute, the Carolina
Panthers can say we matter just as much as the
Giants do. One of the most tried and true franchises
in all of the National Football League, all the history, everything,
they represent, number one market in the country, and this
is who they have to go and say, we're got
to take a chance on a guy that nobody else
was interviewing. But instead here we're gonna go get Joe Judge.
(09:32):
That's what people think of the Giants head coaching job.
The curiosity. I mean, we talked about Judge quite a
bit yesterday, and you got to run some Bourman lines
h in the midst of the McCarthy higher and why
he didn't why he got out of New York right
to go to Dallas to have the sleep over and
set forth this series of repercussions. We'll get into Matt
Rule a little bit as the show develops, but Ian
(09:56):
Rappaport reporting that he had called the Giants to give
them the chance to match what the Panthers were gonna do,
and they declined and then immediately turned and hired Joe
joined Matt Rule for Jojo. Now we're talking about the
size of the contract, because that's one of the things
with Matt Rule, not so much about Matt Rule himself,
is how the market has now been kind of changed
(10:17):
in terms of coach compensation as related as as related
to the contract he signed with the Panthers. That's part
of the quizzical thing. You can talk all you want
about Matt Rule, like he brought a program back from
Ashes and Baylor back to prominence. So there's certainly about
that in terms of building a program which I think
(10:39):
was attracted to them With the Giants, I have to
wonder how much of it is Gettleman and trying to
get some cohesiveness in terms of vision with what he's
trying to do and what his explanations are of his
vision for the squad. So I'm wondering if there wasn't
somewhat of a disconnect there in terms of power, because
(10:59):
let's face it, all along the way you've got each
of these teams, there's a void and a couple of
them where they don't have a GM and just said, hey,
the coach will help it. Right. We talked about that
in Cleveland the last man standing, talked about that in
Washington with Rivera's higher. But make no doubt that these guys,
if they're gonna come in with these kind of contracts
(11:20):
and this kind of um bravado that they're gonna have
some say and wanting to pick the groceries too, And
I have to wonder if you've got a couple of
candidates that decided Giants, isn't that look And that's part
of the Giants organization is that they decided, oh, we're
gonna have lame duck Dave Gentleman for one more year,
and people who would normally want that job, we're gonna
(11:41):
go well, I don't want to this guy. This guy
is gonna be the GM. He's a laughing stock and
he's gonna be the GM. And I don't know who
the next GM coming in is gonna because you're bringing
a guy in after this year. But it's that's what
you watch after coaches. You watched him go after the players,
right and pressed everybody. So why why do I want
(12:03):
to go there? Exactly right, as much as I may
want to be part, because look, one of the most
respected ownership groups in all the football and then you
have the large gap to the guy they hired to
be the GM. So there's a huge disconnect there in
terms of, well, what's my tenure? Right? If I'm coming in,
am I getting my full run? That's the problem with Cleveland, right,
(12:23):
Does anybody believe they're gonna get their full four or
five years? They're gonna get paid? But what they mean
these are two bad jobs. The Giants and the Browns
are bad jobs. And this is why you have to
take chance at the bottom of the barrel. I mean
really that that it shouldn't be that way, But I
look at the Giants, it's part of the entire organization. Yeah,
I mean, we look at Judges pedigree and because he
comes off the Belichick tree, it immediately becomes all right,
(12:45):
look at all the failures from the Belichick tree. Maybe
he's the guy that realized, hey, I can't implement the
same culture that was there. But he worked under Saban,
he worked under Belichick. I got to imagine he's a
pretty smart guy who knows how to how to work
a room to degree right between special teams, wide receivers
coach and you can laugh about what the wide receivers
did in New England this year, but overall, he's a
(13:07):
guy that Belichick trust did a bunch. He don't trust
many people, so I mean, there's there's something to be
said that. But as long as he's smart enough to
learn from the past mistakes, watching Patricia Flounder in Detroit
the other teams, there's that whole thing. Well, I mean,
he looks here, he knows where the body is buried.
He could go all uh, you know, former Jets coaches
(13:31):
lay things out if he wants to. Right, there was
no press conference today for Joe Judge, but he already
has met the team. He has we have audio of him.
He's already made a ruling in the locker room as
far as it comes to this team. So let's hear
this is from today. This is Joe Judge talk of
the giants and and making a big decision. It seemed
that December fourth year last two of you were hanging
(13:54):
out in the bathroom smoking cigarettes. When you decided to
step outside, your iPad, which was on the same counter top,
was knocked off by the defendant he's talking about Barkley
and Daniel Jonson also broke our fifteen inch MacBook Pro
(14:17):
year proceeding at least till it was not paid for
that talking to him with respect, that was Odell. Is
that what got O'Dell Beckham Jr. Out to New York
was that the incident that I found out we were
smoking cigarettes and an iPad broke smoking crigulations to Judge
(14:38):
Joe Brown his new job coming up next. So what
is next for the Cleveland Browns? What did the Panthers
get in? Matt Rule? What is everything we've seen so far? Mean?
Keep it right here, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, Fox Sports Radio.
Happy Thanksgiving everybody. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten
(14:59):

terminate their head coaching search on Judgment Day by bringing
in Joe Judge. It's pretty good. That's gonna be the
whole Judgment Day was pretty good. I got terminated and
everything else. Do you think they're gonna have a judge
(15:20):
section at the Giants games? Now, yea, open your cloak.
There'll be a bunch of knuckleheads. So I mean now
automatically have to have a couple of fake jails that
oh yeah, yeah yeah players, you hit hit a guy
so hard you put him in face, be fake? Come on,
I was really thinking more of the the botwels of
the stadium, the sober up cells. They have prisons for
(15:43):
a possums in the subway. There's no prisons. The possums
get to run from the found they found him. Yeah
but no, but they get but they get to run free.
He's the trash pain that was taking care of business there.
There's the he's getting the needle. Stop with that. Now
you have people are going to be upset about that. Really,
we live in the subway, he said, Well, we said
(16:04):
needle it might be good eating. Why is tyshi ho?
He just went for the more efficient way I finishing
the gibe is raccoon violence right there? I mean, come on, man, Yeah,
vegans is supposed to be all about no pain. Those
are trash. Pandas I'm doing you a favorite. You know, listen,
just double a team for the Angels. It's Pandas. It's
(16:26):
the that that's gonna that's gonna be a real nickname
pretty soon. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen Live

give us five stars, will love you forever and ever
and ever. It will get a lot of of the
Giants hiring Joe Judge and Judge Joe Brown, which is
going to basically be the entire show tonight. Just just
say not that people don't want that, but they're gonna
want that, and the j the giants making the judgment
call for Joe in New England, d J. Did it
(17:09):
rise to the level. Why don't I go all the
way back into history some of the great Supreme Court
justices in the century. I'm gonna go all the way
back after I do. When Boomer dies, I don't know,
I gotta still do it. Why do you have to
bring up I said, when human? Why can't you just
say retire? But but just the way you do it now,
people probably think you're carrying on some long and lamb
(17:32):
way closer to death and retirement. Come of the guys,
what sixty three? I think? Ste Yeah, I bet you
and and J will you be nice to me when
I'm sixty four, DJ, I'd hate to see seventy three.
(17:53):
If that's sixty three, yeah, I think I'm pretty sure
it's Oh my god, is it right? That's all sixty
four years old? I told you, man, Bristol aged him. No,
it was just cold winners, man, I'll say it's no Listen.
Being back in Detroit for ten days, coming back out
to the sunshine, I'm like night. Yes, I know why
I left. I know I left. So tell him they've
got to start coming here. Come on, man, put your
(18:14):
foot on the roads here. Yeah, they are all back tonight,
go back from whence you came your dirt beds. Well,
you are full of hatred and violence today? Is this
I don't know we're talking about Judge. Did you want?
Did you want Joe Judge to be your head coach?
No even knew Joe Judge was until yesterday when suddenly
(18:37):
Hey and Patriots wide receivers coach Joe Judges cropping up
in a lot of people's searches for a head coach,
and we knew who he was, but you weren't thinking
he was going to take the job. But then you
realize that a lot of folks decided, I'll sit out
this round. I don't like the ownership group center in
charge of what's happening. I'm just picturing him now an
advisor on the sideline in Chicago. What are you doing
(18:59):
to me? Oh, you need this in your life. I
already got Matt. The whole town knows you hate Matt nag.
Everybody knows that it is not a secret. The Judge
is in also in today, all right, I got Judge
(19:20):
reinhold in. Also in besides Joe Judge in New York
is Matt Rule, who came a long way away from
what was it ten days ago when he told his
players a Baylor, Hey, when the NFL calls, of course,
I'm gonna listen, then i'm gonna say no, and I'm
gonna be right back here. Except Matt rules, all right,
you gotta understand. Okay, great, and now oh, the NFL
(19:41):
called it here he is seven year, sixty million dollar
contract to coach the Carolina Panthers, and those players all
got a text telling him that he was going. Hey, guys,
sorry to find out. This is like when the long
time boyfriend and girlfriend, you know, it's the night before
one of them is leaving for college, and and the
guy says, we're gonna be together for of her. I
am never going to cheat on you. Just because my
(20:02):
our colleges are miles away doesn't mean. Look, we're gonna
call every day, we're gonna write, we're gonna do all
these things. We're gonna skype, I'm gonna text you, we're
gonna do all of these things. I am never gonna
cheat on you. And then he's and then the guy's
away for one the first weekend. It's up. I'm gonna
go find a year ago. My first threat party. I'm
getting without understamp. I'm gonna find someone. Why why did
you make promotion with your hand as you said that
(20:24):
like you were putting on the path. Did you did
a stamp? But you also did a thing like you
were putting and adjusting the bill of my path? I
mean business, I need to have I need to bring
my hat this game. This is the hat game. Okay, business,
when you take the hat off, just so you know,
this is the hell. But that's just it. He had
to pick out a nice, sharp looking one to take
(20:44):
to the party. The other thing is I heard it.
I I don't know if anybody can can can really?
I mean I would need Twitter. I guess about corroboration
is that I've heard that women have said if they're
not going to hook up with a guy, if they
they meet him at a bar, ever and he's wearing
a hat like a hat is a is a is
a like a like a note, like like a thing,
(21:05):
that's just no right away now, if you're wearing a hat,
I'm not gonna unless you're at we're not getting together.
And but that I could never confirm that that was
something that many women thought of, because I'm like I
wear hats all the time before when I was single,
I'm like, I'm wearing I still wear hats now, but
I'm like, wear hats all the time. Well, it might
have been exclusive. That's it against you. And it doesn't
(21:28):
mean that because because in New York you weren't wearing
a Yankees hat. If we were in Italy, you'd make
my bed. No. But if you were in New York
when you were in college and and and thereabouts, the
fact that you weren't wearing Yankees meant you would pick
the losers. No that I'll blank that guy or she
just goes, oh, yeah, I'll date him because I could
(21:49):
walk all over him. He's a Mets fan'll do whatever
I want. I don't care. I could cheat on him,
that'll be great. Yeah, when I need to go to
a dance or something, I'll take me. No. I don't
mean like when a woman sees a guy and a hat.
Girl sees the guy and I had its own. No. No,
I just mean like that night if they needed a
party or okay, it's no at question. Put it up there.
Would you hook up with a guy the night you
(22:10):
met him if he was wearing a hat and put
that up there. Okay, well we'll put that on Twitter
at one dom on Instagram at opposite of you know what,
the biggest thing that I found, and this is many
women have told me this the biggest The worst thing
you can do on a date, on a first date,
the absolute worst thing. Well, well yeah, that'd be bad too.
(22:32):
Hey you want to go get look at that. It's
a winded right there. Just flicked this out. Just gonna
flick this out of the window right here. That don't
pull my finger right that, we'll pull my fingers. That
that's tough. Knock on the door, Ding dong, Hey pull
my finger. Uh No. The worst thing you can do
on a first date not open the card door when
they get in, or if you well I don't know
(22:53):
that you get a date if that happens, I think
that the dad just shuts the door and says, how
do you're not going out tonight? Here's here's here's a
hundred dollars, go buy something online. Now. If you don't
open the door for her when you when you pick
her up and take her and you open up the door,
that's it, like every woman. Oh yeah, if you open
the door for me, that's it. Basic. That's it basic
shiver as well, not even go on the date. I
(23:14):
was like, Wow, I'm glad I opened the door all
the time, opened the door, opened the door to the car.
I mean there's there's little niceties that should have been
gone to the way. Chivalry's dead. Or you do what
I do, life support. You get her to come pick
you up. Oh you want to go out, you come
pick me up. You open my door. Oh, and I'll
wear the hat to It's gonna be a Mets hat
(23:36):
and it's gonna be not with the New York symbol.
It's gonna have a big Mr Met on it. And
he's gonna have a bat and he's gonna be kissing
Mrs Met and she's got a bat. Oh and now
we're gonna get together because of the hat. And I'm
gonna say, you see these kissing people up here with
big heads. Now we're gonna kiss right now. You're gonna boots, baby.
(23:56):
Let's get out of the car and go back up
to my room. I gotta you Betta who had a
Mrs Med outfit. I got the Mr. Mad outfit. We're
both gonna have the big giant heads of baseballs and
we're gonna hook up. Let's go. Come on, you can
do this character. I mean, I know the new season
of the Bachelor premiered last night. If you could go
on waiting this character, we now know what role plays
(24:16):
like this. That's that's what happens, that's how we do it.
I kept this big headed guy in my hand. Come on,
you're looking at these kids. And last week I had
to be Jim Hardball. It was really difficult, right, I
mean it was really really last week. You're still wearing
a Michigan sweater. Yeah, you forgot to take that. You
love the lost the hat in the khaki's this and
(24:39):
I gotta watch this. I'm gonna press the button. You're
gonna meet the Mets. There you go, head, that's a
big song for the night. I said, they're playing our song. Mets,
step right up and meet the Meds. You and me
the big Med's heads. Twitter And how about Fresca Mike?
And how was this is what happened to when the
(25:00):
Giants hired judge Joe Brown to be their head coach.
This is what happens on the show. That's what happens.
Larry actually have made more sense had they hired the
real judge, Joe Brown. He just comes in hitting gods
with the gavel, bang bang bang, gather Okay, in ninety seconds,
(25:22):
real legitimate opinions and sports talk into what Matt ruled
the Carolina Panthers meant today and what this means for
the Cleveland Browns. But first, be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Jack and Joe
went up to help book with a buck and a quarter.
(25:44):
Joe came down with two fifty. That was That was
not me Pretty much in line with your impression of
the New York dating scene. Yeah. I posed the question
on Twitter based on the theory that you you threw out,
my man, Uh does a woman eliminate any chance of
(26:05):
the first night hook up of the guy's wearing a
hat and the bar, restaurant, et cetera. We'll see what
kind of response we get again, that's well and dumb. Well, Yeah,
you meet a guy who's wearing a hat, will you
look up with him that night? Yes? Or no? Great
googly moogli as it were. Uh So, after the Giants
(26:27):
hired Joe Judge. We got the news that the Panthers
are going with Matt Rule, Baylor head coach, who had
been hot and heavy for both teams. As you know
the beginning of the show tonight, the Giants had a
chance to match the offer seven years sixty million. The
Giants said no, and then they went with Joe Judge,
which tells you the Giants now are cheap in that
(26:47):
if a guy they want, they wouldn't match him contract wise,
which shows you the absolute mess that the Giants are
and that it's not a good job anymore. The head
coaching job for the Giants is not a good job.
What about Matt Ruland what does this mean now for
for the Browns? Matt Rule to the Panthers, Okay, it's fine.
Who else were they gonna get? I mean, I give
(27:09):
the Panthers credit because he was the best of the
quote candidates that were still out there. They got him,
and at the very least, you know that the Panthers
are on at least the same playing level as the
Giants when it comes to relevancy because they hired a
guy the Giants really needed to go get because you
wanted someone who can turn programs around with an offensive mind.
To have a quarterback who's a year out of college
(27:32):
should be able to groom him. And the Panthers won
that war. But I can't say I'm that excited about
Matt Rule. I mean, Matt Rule, Okay, you went out
and got the guy. But I think what every single
team in the NFL is realizes that, okay, we're firing
our head coach. Now who's out there and the names
they thought that we're gonna be around, we're not there.
And the Cowboys taking out Mike McCarthy made all these
(27:53):
teams jump around and go, oh man, we're stuck. We
gotta get one of these guys. So the Giants get
Joe Judge and the Panthers get Matt Rule, and the
Browns are now sitting around going, well, now it's Josh
McDaniels are bust and they're saying, we're hoping to have
a head coaching candidate solved by Saturday. But this is
what happens when you have a job that is perceived
(28:14):
to be bad. You can't get your guy. Carolina and
Matt Rule, at least you can say from the beginning
they were joined at the hip. But when you first
heard Matt Rule in the National Football League. You're Carolina Panthers, right,
so at least you know, okay, he was our guy.
We went, we pulled him from Baylor and we got him. Right.
This tells you that Matt Rule thinks this is a
(28:35):
good job, and the Carolina Panthers that was their guy
all along. But look at the Giants and the Browns.
I mean it, there's different reasons why these are not
good jobs right now. The Giants because of the mess
the team is and that fact they can't get big
names to come in. For the Browns, this is your
second year in a row that you can't get a
big name to come in and coach Baker Mayfield and now,
(28:57):
oh now you have Odell Beckham Jr. And all of
these personalities there. The Browns are in a good job
because they have unrealistic expectations. You're gonna walk in and
it's gonna be expected by the fan base, the media
and the team to say, okay, instant super Bowl contender
because we were supposed to be there last year. We
thought Freddie Kitchens was our guy, even because nobody else
wanted the job, and we said it last year. It's
(29:19):
a big warning side when here are the Browns, when
you expect, supposedly have the next great quarterback and everybody
loves him and the only name you can get to
say yes was Freddie Kitchens. That's a big warning sign.
Now a year later, we're seeing everything wide because Baker
Mayfield is not a franchise quarterback. From what we saw
this past year, Odell Beckham is always going to be
a headache. There's always going to be stories whether he
(29:41):
wants it. Is he going to really buy into the
Brown system? Is he gonna ever show up in the
off season? Is he ever gonna be happy? Is he
going to force a trade? It's a bad job because
you're taking over and you're expected with Baker Mayfield, with
Odell Beckham, with this team you have that clearly wasn't
good enough to say, you know what, now we're going
to the super Bowl. Who thinks they can do that? Nobody.
(30:01):
This is why Cleveland can't get anybody went on the surface,
it's franchise quarterback, Odell Beckham Jr. You got a couple
of You got the number two running back in the
National Football League and Nick Chubb, another guy in Kareem Ut.
You got boy. This is this is this is made
to order. It's a bad job because you're not in
a position to succeed. You are only in a position
to fail. If you go nine and seven next year.
Is that success with the Browns. No, that's failure. And
(30:24):
with this talent and and not knowing how good Baker
Mayfield is. That's why people aren't going to get this job.
This is the second year. I told you last year
this is a bad job, and now this year you
can see it's a bad job. Well, when we look
at Cleveland, I'll start there and work my way back
to to rule is with Baker Mayfield. You you gave
him the keys to the car, right, you let him
call call the shots. And so John Dorsey's out a
(30:47):
guy who was good at building rosters because he made
one fatal flaw. He hired Freddie Kitchens because it made
Baker Mayfield happy, because they had their success. The second
half of the season is the growing up in the room,
Greg Williams. Yeah, but where you gonna let him be
your head coach? No, there's the guy that we saw suspended.
You know, are our great analysis of the Saints and
(31:09):
their woes yesterday? Thanks to all you that produced radio
and television shows for listening to us, uh and evangelizing.
Just give us the writer credit while you do so.
But you go through and and they made that mistake.
And everybody we've talked to from from Jay Glazer and
and Alex Marvez and Jason Cole, friends of the show,
it's like part of it is Jimmy, Jimmy Haslum changes
(31:32):
his mind. Right, They like him. Right. He may not
be a band owner, but fickle. And so I think
for the football watching world, any ideas of of a
super Bowl, they're gone. Maybe has Lum still has him
in his head. But for us, it's all right, let's
get the popcorn and see how the next tire goes.
With Matt Rule, I mean, you've got a business guy
(31:52):
in Temper that's in charge. And the thing he emphasized
was I want a guy that wants to build a
culture slash, build a program like he did, a temple
like he did, re restoring Baylor to where he did.
And let's face it, with McCarthy and getting getting jobs
is the year of the Husky as it works, So
(32:13):
that's good. Uh. So, Judge Joe Brown needs to to
put on a couple of pounds to fit in twitter
at how about a fresco? Mike gets swollen down The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, Nicks
and the Lakers are tied. This could be as good
as it gets. The Knicks are tied and they have
the basketball off the fight. Dude, it's too too do
you know what? If it's as good as it games,
(32:34):
you ruin the power of what I just had to say.
But coming up next, Hey, there's gonna be a big
change to your Monday night football broadcast this coming season. Goodness,
we got it for you. Next on Fox, be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific.
(32:54):
For a second, the Knicks were winning. They were winning.
That was the best moment of your day. Yeah, now
it's out. Now it's done. Now close it up. Games over.
You're gonna catch two l's in one night. Yeah, that
is kind of hard. You're watching both of these things
go on here. Your team's yeah, Lakers lead the Nick
seven six and Syracus so losing to Virginia Tech forty nine.
(33:16):
It's just going to be that kind of year for me.
It's just gonna be that kind of year. It's okay.
I mean, look, it's not your fault. Pictures and catchers
in a few weeks, right, I gotta go. My dad's
whole thing. Pictures and catchers are point. I get a
pictures and catchers Metsio soon enough, buddy. But a big
change could be coming to your television Monday Night Football
this year. As a story that came today first out
(33:36):
of The New York Post, ESPN considering replacing Booker McFarland
and Joe Testa tour on Monday Night Football rumored that
they will make a big run at Tony Romo to
be the new lead analyst on Monday Night Football. However,
there's all kinds of contracts and rites and and a
whole bunch of different things to get to when you're
trying to figure out who's going to be the lead
(33:58):
broadcast or what they're gonna do on Monday Night Football.
Now here's the thing about Booker McFarland, and he sucks.
I well, look, it's not that him and Joe Testa tour.
I've said this from the beginning. They don't do a
bad broadcast. They do a broadcast that looks like it
could be the number four game on a Sunday afternoon
on Fox. If they were doing Arizona and the forty Niners,
(34:20):
nobody would care. If they were doing the Titans and
the Jaguars, nobody would care. But it's Monday night football.
And as someone who has Bobbed been at ESPN a
couple of times, they go and certain and cycles. They
go from cycles of we're not hiring big talent and
we're gonna just let the the content go, and then
they realized we got to spend money on big talents,
(34:41):
and then they go right checks and they bring in
a few big names. Then they don't do that anymore
for a while. Then they go back to that's just
how it goes to ESPN. You see it. It It goes
in cycles. Here comes a lot of money they throw
at people, and then that goes for a few years,
and they realized, wait, we gotta cut a little bit.
Nobody cares about the personality, So we're just gonna treat
talent as necessary evil. So we're not going to spend
a lot of money. We're gonna promote from within. Right,
(35:03):
That's what he there's a lot of rumors about the
cycle of going back to the big money even before Romo. Sure,
but over the last couple of weeks. But but a
guy like Booker McFarland is he made his legend on
like Bleacher Report, Radio and and Yahoo. I believe he
was on places like that, and he was a fun
and entertaining guest. And there's many guys, there's many ex
(35:26):
football players who get on the radio and for ten
minutes can tell great stories and are are great guests.
We have him on, Oh my god, this guy is
so great, and then you overestimate their real talent and
you give him a job like this, you go right
from that to Monday Night football. Then it's oh, wow,
(35:47):
he's really not ready. You can't every week keep looking
at and go what did he say this week? Oh
that the bill should spike the ball on third should
run a draw play on third and ten and spike
the ball on fourth down. I mean, how many mistakes
like that can he make? No, there's been a bunch
of those, and there's there's been that went against the Vikings.
I mean, you can't keep having that Well, an awful
(36:08):
lot of captain obvious kind of comments as well the
folks that are tuning in for those games. Look, I
know there's something to be said about catering to the
y you are broadcasting, but you have to assume some
certain level of knowledge. Maybe not out of the rules
because the rule book is just such a mess, but
in terms of general football protocol. I mean there's an
(36:30):
awful lot of times where you're just raising your eyebrow going, wow,
that was wasted five seconds or wasted ten seconds. Right,
So Tampa to the SEC network and then Odd too
here so you go to the biggest platform that in
Sunday Night Football. Right now, Fox with Thursday Night Football
has been elevated to a whole other level, right with
with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. But yeah, for for
(36:52):
Boogram McFarland, I mean it was last year was all
about the battle between he and Jason Witten and went
why what he was going to tell you when he
was on the crane there. There's there's what you can
do in small doses and what happens when you get
that bigger dose realized, oh boy, somebody, this this person
really can't handle it. It's it's like somebody who on
(37:14):
Twitter has all the great one liners, and then they
go on a show and suddenly it's like they're they're
they're looking at the screen blankly. I don't know what
to say. I can't carry on a conversation. I'm only
good firing off one liners on Twitter. The folks that
work off scripts and then they've got to add lib
a conversation. It's it's it's what happens when you just think, Okay,
(37:34):
this guy can do this job, and you slowly realize, okay,
it's not working. And whatever it is he had, he
started out lower and got more reps and got more
comfortable because the guy's got a good personality. But could
that have changed things for him? Yeah, but you take
a look. They put Boomer size and right on Monday
Night Football. He was can't miss, and what happened? He
(37:55):
had he had They had to cut him out after
like a year and a half, and it took him
a while to build him off back up into being
the broadcast is. I mean, it's it's hard to say
take you from hey, you haven't done this to now
do it on Monday Night Football and he starts saying
things like run the draw and third down to spike
the ball on fourth then, which you know that he
knows you can't do that, but that's what winds up happening.
Twitter and out about a Fresca Mike and swollen Dome.
(38:16):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen
Coming up next, the biggest story out of the National
Football League. This is Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app Fox
Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
(38:39):
Mike Harmon. Song Late in the first quarter, the Knicks
trail the Lakers by two. It is a close game.
This may be as good as it catch, which is
why I keep bringing up the score. You are so
jacked up about this game. I know everybody making a
big notice at Staples about the crowd reaction to Alex
(39:01):
Caruso the All Star voting. We talked about it last week.
A lot of excitement for him and that he gets
an ovation as loud as Lebron James or Anthony Davis.
That's pretty good. He's gonna be an All Star. He's
every man. I mean, al screens gonna be an all
They're gonna vote of it. He's gonna be an all
star fantastic matters and someone's gonna lose a half a
(39:23):
million dollar bonus and all Hell's gonna break a loose
is gonna be great. I mean really, I'm gonna watch
tonight Syracuse lose again. I'm gonna watch the Knicks lose,
and I'm gonna have to watch Carmelo Anthony's game winning
jumper over and over and over again. I think I
have it, printing a hundred copies of it to him wallpaper,
the studio. Oh du oh, grow terrific. Thanks for that, buddy,
(39:44):
I appreciate that. Well, you know, it is kind of
a big moment. Thanks so much. Look when they had
that long shot of Carmelo Anthony's jersey in the rafters
earlier when we're watching Moztech and Syracuse, how sad was
that that slow scroll down the jersey like this is
(40:04):
really as bad as agains. That's when you know you've
got a bad team and a bad product. Remember in
two thousand and three with the syracuser. I mean that's
that's what by the dark it was seduced and murdered
by the dark side of the Fluors that loops us,
surrounds us, and binds the galaxy together. Welcome inside our two.
(40:29):
I'm Jason, He's Mike. Happy New Year, everybody. Big day
in the NFL today, huge day because two of the
biggest head coaching positions were filled. And when you heard
who the Giants hired today, many people, I'm saying, the
average football fan, I didn't know who this guy was.
No chance. And really, it's gonna be calling him Judge
(40:52):
Joe Brown for the entire time, not not, They'll just
call Joe Brown is the head coach of the Giants, right,
Joe Brown. It's just it's Joe out Judge Joe Brown,
Joe Judge, wide receivers coach of the Patriots, is now
the head coach of the New York Giants. And do
you think at any point this is a phrase I'm
gonna like using now because I think this fits a
many different circumstances. At any point in the meeting, when
(41:15):
they were going around the room going Okay, Joe Judge,
Joe Judge, Joe Judge, Joe Judge, was there somebody with
the guts to pull the emergency brake and go. Do
we really want to hire a guy whose name is
going to be a punchline the entire time he's here?
I mean, I'm just saying. I'm not saying you can
fire me and I'll walk out. But do we really
want to hire? Already? The New York Daily News, the
(41:35):
headline is Judge over rule because this rule winds up
going to the Carolina like that, let me throw that.
But let me just throw this out there, okay, because
you know, hey, they always say no idea is stupid.
Oh I'm fired. Okay, I'm out. I always say no
ideas too, But do we want to hire a guy
whose name is going to be a punchline every single
time it's mentioned? Daily News and New York Poach they
(41:57):
had temp jobs, open a meeting at Lee. Come up
with your best fifty quips involving the surname Judge. I mean,
I know Chris Berman called to say, hey, you gotta
do it so I can do my thing, you know,
on the plus thing now at the prime time and
everything side. But I gotta be able to do that. Uh.
I had a lot of good ones all ready to go.
(42:19):
Just the curiosity of the final hours of the coaching search.
Right Matt Rule gives them every opportunity to match the
gargantean contract offered him by Temper and the Carolina Panthers.
And they decline and immediately turned right over and hire
your man Joe Judge. And now from Joe Judge to
(42:41):
drafting Jerry Judy. The Giants could have Judge Joe and
Judy t j al right, it it rights itself, It
rights itself. There's no real I mean, it's almost at
this point and they don't need to do anything. I'm
stealing money tonight. I'm stealing money tonight with us. Don't
say that this is all stealing. This is all the
way your brain works, for the course, for the content
(43:04):
and brilliant auditory effort that we bring you every night
here on Fox More Radio. Do not listen to the
last fourteen seconds of Jason Smith about stealing money, not
even close shots Tonight's best of seconds and the Giants
moved to the side Judge to bring him in to
(43:28):
be their head coach. Dj the Giants not giving out
a line. Judge is the new head coach really does?
Just keep going Judge advocation. Wait, wait, wait, wait, here's
my best one. I thought you love this and I'm
(43:48):
gonna kill you this already. You know the story that
the Giants now want to talk to Jason Garrett about
being the Robins coordinator, right, Well, sure, they wanted him
as a head coach for a minute, and then they
hired Judge T J. Judge advocating generally for Jason Garritt
to be their new head Is this how you teach
(44:09):
people to turn a phrase? Is they're learning English? Is that?
What is that what you were trying to do? The
Giants complete the circuit, Judge is the new head coach? DJ?
You just anything else? Anything else? Yeah, I mean we
go back to just the the man's CV. And you're
(44:30):
talking about a lot of experience with winning Patriots in
Alabama for the last decade, right hand man to Belichick
these last couple of years, special teams coordinator, wide receivers
coach obviously Belichick. I mean everybody's talked about it over
the course of the day when you're looking at John Harbaugh,
Andy Reid, others. And that's where they got their start
(44:50):
as running a squad as opposed to coordinating and whatever.
And I mean I'm always gonna ask how many guys
just politely, respectfully declined to go any further in the process. Look,
they just saying, look at these ownership groups I'm dealing
with here. I got a good job. I'm good. Look,
the Giants just realized this. The Giants is a bad
(45:13):
head coaching job. It's a bad job. It should be
the best, it should be the best of the best
in the NFL, but instead it isn't because the Giants
are now run. It's a punchline. You're allowing Dave Gentleman
to stay on his GM when all he's done is
alienate players and make decisions that make you scratch your head.
I mean, just the fact he trades a third and
(45:33):
a fourth round pick for Leonard Williams, who they're not
going to resign, so they've given away picks to the Jets.
It's the best trade the Jets have made in years.
He really is an a net general manager. And the
excuses he tries to give for why he does things
the way he does, nobody buys it. This is who
you're gonna go in and work for for a year
until they fire him and bring somebody else. And and
(45:54):
maybe you're not his guy. And now you're have a
fourth relationship with a general manager. The Giants are run horrendously.
And here's how I will tell you this, and here's
and here's the reason all you need to know why.
Matt Rule was identified very early from the Carolina Panthers. Right.
Matt Rule interview with the New York Giants. Carolina Panthers
wanted him from the beginning. What happened today? Matt Rule said, yes, Panthers,
(46:15):
six years, seventy million, We're gonna do it. Mike McCarthy
interview with the New York Giants. He could have picked
the Giants. What did he do? After spending the night
at Jerry Jones's house, he called the Giants and said,
take me out. I'm not going to talk to the
Giants any other team. I'm all in on Dallas. Dallas
hires him as the head coach. Matt Rules saw better
stability with the Carolina Panthers. Mike McCarthy saw a better
(46:36):
stability with the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants have no stability.
They have a roster that you that they want you
to think is great. You have set Kwon Barkley, have
two players. You have set Kwan Barkley, who may or
may not be a great player. He was really good
as a rookie. He really stunk this year. You have
Daniel Jones, who they tell you how great he is.
But mikel for every touchdown the guy through he had
(46:58):
a turnover? Is he any good? He had three big
games and about twelve crappy ones. But the Giants want
you to believe that these are the guys that are
so great. The jury is out, but it's the Giants.
It's the New York bleep and Giants. This should be
the job that hardborn Riley and everybody else. Oh, you
know what I want this job? I want you call
you get me an interview, will go clandestinely. We'll finish
(47:20):
this thing up and do it right away. And I'm
coming in and suddenly look at the Giants. They get
their big name head coach, but they couldn't and they
had to settle for the Patriots wide receivers coach, who
nobody else was talking to. You only heard his name
yesterday because the Giants were talking to him, because that's
they wound up hiring. They could have also hired Matt Rule,
but when they said we don't want to give the
(47:40):
same money that the Panthers want for Matt Rule, because
that's what happened before Matt Rule took the Panther's job.
Let me see what kind of money is out there.
They call the Giants, this is the art of the
Giant said no, no, take it. So now the Giants
won't pay for the guy that potentially they really could want.
The Giants are run horribly and for the longest time
they were looked up at is this is how you
run a franchise in the NFL. The Giants and the
(48:01):
Steelers were always this is how you run a franchise
in the NFL. And now the Giants there at the
bottom of the barrel and they're a laughing stock. I mean,
look for all the stuff problems with the Jets, and
the Jets of all kinds of problems. Look how many
problems the Giants have now when this is where they're
going for their head coach, the wide receivers coach for
the Patriots, that's where you're going. Well, it's the insertion
of Gettleman. Right. We watched all the press conferences. We
(48:22):
watched him get snippy with people. We watched the mocking
of players and what they were doing and what they
were talking about, and really trying to pass the buck
wherever he could. And so this round of coaching searches,
a lot of it is dependent on how much control
you were gonna have to build your roster, build your program,
(48:45):
whatever else. Obviously, Daniel Snyder the last the first decade
of his ownership, he was flipping coaches like like used
cars on a lot. All right, let's get to the
next guy. Make it run for six months, get some
bondo on there, put that back on, see if it'll
it'll go hold, and then well we'll go through the
cycle again. Last ten years you had Shanahan, then you
(49:07):
had Gruden, and now you go Ron Rivera. And you
know what he did with Rivera. All right, here you go.
You've got control. We're not hiring a GM. Bruce Allen's out.
You get to come in and do your thing. He
starts throwing off the shuffleboard and ping pong tables or
whatever else. But just the idea of I want guys
who want to play football in Carolina tempers a businessman.
(49:28):
So that was the thing with with Matt Rule. He
could go in with a plan. Look at what I
did at Temple. Look at what I did rebuilding Baylor
from a one at eleven as everything went down and
the scandal there, and look where we are as a program.
This is what you want. And if you're you're talking
to a business guy, what's his eyes are gonna get wide? Right?
And yes, this is exactly what we do. We take
(49:49):
from scratch and we go build ourselves. You know, a
fortune five hundred and away you go. They've got a
big decision to make on cam Newton. But that's a
whole other piece of the puzzle for now. For Matt
rule was attractive in New York you got Gettleman, right,
you have Gettleman there, and then in Cleveland you've got
Haslem and you've got a power void there because they're
gonna let the new coach pick a GM or someone
(50:11):
to rubber stamp things that the coach wants there. But
with has limits the will he change his mind? Is
he gonna stay on a direction? Right? Is it one
and done? No matter how well I do, he's not
going to be satisfied or someone's in his ear that
convinces him that we've got to go in a different direction.
So for the Giants, they're just in no man's I
really thought they were gonna take Gettleman out when they
(50:33):
sent coach bringing the GM, the GM hires this guy.
It's there. It doesn't work. Look, there's a couple of
teams where it's worked, where you can say, hey, the
coach gets hired, then the GM comes in and it works.
It's worked in Seattle, but there's so many other examples
of it just doesn't work because the GM and the
coach need to be on the same page. They need
(50:55):
to There's needs to be a clear order of power
where the GM does these things and the coach does
these things, because anytime it's not, it's well, if you
hire the coach first, then the GM, it's well, what
really is the GM doing? You know, is is he
really answering to the coach? That just doesn't work that way,
And the Giants have decided when they could have just said,
all right, gentleman's out, what a gentleman? What has he
(51:16):
done that has made you think he is our guy?
I mean unless he goes into Marrow and Tish's office
every day it says, look, Daniel Jones is our guy.
He's great, he's great, he's great. No he's our guy.
He's great, he's great. Look at this, Look at this
looking four touchdowns here. I mean, unless he's doing that
and they're just like, oh, just get this guy out
of here. I don't know how he kept that job,
but I guarantee you seeing a lame duck GM. How
(51:36):
many people are gonna say, I don't care where the
job is, There's got to be something better for me
to succeed at. Matt Rule sees a place where I
can succeed in Carolina because I know the owner is this,
the quarterback situation is this. I'm gonna have a chance
to input myself on the team. I get it this
page down in Miami. Yes, I'm getting aid time to
(51:57):
build a program as opposed to just being a gamp
higher Twitter out. How about a Fresco Mike at Swollen Dome?
Just we allays the Giants Giants is a bad job.
I mean, it's just just doesn't tell you anything else
you need to know. This is it right here? And
t J the Giants go all the way back back back,
(52:20):
back back. Judge is their guy. DJ back crack back
crack crack pack. The New York Giants now presiding judge
over the football operations by coming up next, we got
more what is next for the Cleveland Browns? Is it
Josh McDaniels or bust All the latest NFL news with
(52:43):
a very special guest next right here Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harman weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with
My best friend Mike arm Yeah, I had hopes at
six four, maybe eighteen sixteen, but the Knicks already trailed
(53:07):
the Lakers. He had a good run. In fact, the
biggest play of the night just happened. Bobby Portis was
just ejected after he completely round housed clothesline k C
p as he went in for a breakaway layup. This
is the video they show players in the NBA saying, listen,
(53:28):
if you do this on a foul, We're going to
eject you from the game. Cantavious Cable Pope is driving
in from the left side, Porters approaching from the right,
and he just completely winds up and just brings the
right arm across, didn't go for the ball, just slams
him in the head. He gets ejected. The Lakers are
up by twelve, and this is how it goes for
the next already missing Morris for the night. But this
(53:49):
was just filthy. He'll get a game or two suspension
on the back end of this. You should get the needle. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
He stood off to the side. Why did I looking around? Like?
What what did I do? I'm like, dude, that was
the probably the biggest punch thrown in an NBA game
and it wasn't even in a fight. We'll keep you
updated on this again. This just happened a couple of
(54:09):
minutes ago. But KCP looks like he is okay. Uh,
he was taking the locker room. They're gonna look at
him obviously when you get clothes line like that. But
he did walk to the locker room under his own power,
so it looks like he is okay. But to welcome
in our next guest right here, yeah, Bunny, I gotta
do it how he would want us to welcome the
(54:29):
big coaching news of the day, the Panthers getting Matt rule,
the Giants higher Joe judge the t J. Normally, you
can't judge a book by its cover. The Giants hoping
to judge Joe by wins and losses. D J on
(54:50):
the Hotline with us now the editor in chief at
fansided dot com, longtime NFL insider and Pro Football Hall
of Fame voter, d J Judge advocating generally for Jason
Garrett to join his staff. It's Jason Cole, what's happened
to Jacole? What is it you're trying to say? What
(55:16):
was that? I mean, if you know, you could have
done something like you know, a judge rules on something
and you could have combined the Caroline Panthers and the
Giants and that would have been bad. But I did
that a few minutes. But what you just said was
like barely intelligible. I got judge advocate general and I mean,
come on, man, that's tough one. Judge and rule are
(55:37):
pretty easy. This is that, you know, this show goes
a little bit deeper than that. No, it doesn't. There's
nothing beat about this show. How dare you if you
accept that he'd like to talk about despair but that's
the deepest talking about his Jets fandom. I I get it,
(55:59):
Jason cold, don't judge this show, okay? And really the
deepest thing. Maybe Jason Cole's voice, that could be the
deepest thing on this show. It is I am the
Andrew Luck doubleganger. And now if that meant something, if
I could actually make some money off of it, but
that's never happened, and now the guy quits, so like
(56:20):
it means absolutely zero. Yeah, I mean, you could have
really made money on that. You lost that. You know,
I was working on doing a show in Indianapolis, but
you know, and I would have come up with crazy
Andrew Luck answers to things, but we quit. I mean,
you know, at least want a super Bowl for me
or something like that. And instead, now we have Joe
(56:42):
Judge dreading the first game against the Dallas Cowboys. D J.
This is what my night has been, all right, So, well,
how how did they wind up with? Joe? How did you?
Who's laughing at that? Except for the little person inside
of your head? No, everybody is laughing at you kidding.
Everybody there is like there's like your alter ego in
(57:06):
your head that's going it's really funny. It's not. Let
me just say that's not funny. D J. Judge has
a rhinhold of the Giants top job right now, Judge
reinhold anytime he gets this reinald into something that makes
it funny. You finally found it. It It took you like
(57:26):
the four minutes to do this well in your way
to it. I mean, look, I have American or something.
Come on, like I said, this, this is this is
this is the Vance show. Alright, wen, we do next
level things on this show. Next. Look, we're working our
way down. We didn't say if it was ascending or descending.
(57:50):
It was just a different direction. Okay, So do we
like the Joe Judge higher No the answers, I mean
I like Joe Judge and I think he's gonna be
a good head coach. But seriously, this was what you're doing,
like this is this is the reason that you got
(58:12):
rid of Pat Charmer to bring in Joe Judge, like quick,
I mean, the heck of a job getting wide receivers
ready in New England was last year and man, that
offense was really going. That was humming, right, that's an
endorsement for Joe Judge. Heck of a job helping you know,
(58:35):
Like every time every time Brady's looking over at Nikkil,
He's like, are you ever gonna get open? Like, do
you know if you learned anything this here. Well, maybe
it's the Giants going, hey, we want to get somebody
off the Belichick tree. All right, what coach could he
really do without the best Well, the wide receiver's coach. Fine,
(58:55):
go and get him. All right, great, he's gonna replace
him anyway. Get Bakers can't possibly live without this, your spider.
Maybe maybe we should go up to the tight ends. Guy. Hey,
he got Ben Watson out there every Sunday. But but
(59:15):
how much of this is Dave Gettleman's presence When it's
all said none, Steve is probably looking up, going, wait
a second, this is not what I wanted. Wait a sec,
I'll show around, But I wanted somebody better. It would
have been better if they got Judge Joe Brown. He's
(59:37):
been hitting people with gavel instead of throwing the red
Challenge flag. It would have been better if they had
gotten Judged Judy, so well, they could draft Jerry Judy
and they could have Joe Judge and Jerry Judy. You
walked right into from the dead, I mean you know,
and then at least you could have like funny routines
with dustn't hoppen walking around Wow, that's too soon for that.
You want to rusty the bailiff joke. You're gonna run
(59:59):
that in there too before we've then, Yeah, I'm gonna
do that. So I have I have no same none
what so ever. We welcome to the club. Yeah, I
tell you like you like Matt Rules every week and
you ask if I have the same. Yeah, but you're
gonna walk away from the show and give the Judge
Reinhold line to everybody you meet tomorrow. You're gonna do right.
(01:00:21):
I am just myself laugh. So do you like Matt
Rule to the Panthers more? I think Matt Rule is
a really interesting coach. And when you went at Baylor,
that's a really amazing accomplishment because Baylor is basically like
(01:00:42):
a third world country. Like when you get to Waco,
they're like chickens and dogs running around in the street.
When I say, now, that is literally true, like when
I went, when I went, I've been to Waco twice.
We drove over to the old State and before they
built a new place um with Drayton McClain kicked in
(01:01:05):
all the money for this one, but the old one.
And we're driving down the street and there are dogs,
edge chickens running around in the streets, and I'm like,
where the hell are we? It's i mean really like,
you know, bagdad, Betty is probably right around the corner
(01:01:28):
or something like that. It's just it's it's a ridiculous place.
So if you get kids to come to that town
and you can win football games without serious cheating, you
know the way that um, the way that was done
under our prials, if you're out you can actually do that,
that's a heck of a thing to accomplish. So Tepper
(01:01:49):
gets this guy from a business respective the last hired
to to be done Cleveland, and do we get a
reality show? Now? There there's no urgency to go find
a candidate now is there already? Reality It's I mean
it's you know, coaches about have about as much success
(01:02:10):
rate as some combination you know, as couples would coming
out of either the Bachelor or the dating game. Right,
Like that's that's the kind of like set up that
you have in Cleveland. It's like, we'll day for a while,
then I'll hire you. And it's just it's going nowhere,
(01:02:30):
and why would anybody want to work here? Now that said,
maybe they're going to get Josh McDaniels if they give
them the keys of the car and they give them
like twelve or thirteen million dollars a year. But if
you if you're not getting the keys of the car
and the money Holly guaranteed. Like if Matt Rules worth
sixty million dollars for seven years, Josh McDaniels is sitting
(01:02:51):
there's gone like could you double that for me? I mean,
we're gonna end up with Jim Schwartz, aren't they the
way things are going, Yeah, they're gonna end up with
Jim Schwartz. I mean, Dave Ball come in for an
enemy today. I mean, like you have to be really
(01:03:12):
desperate to take that job. Either desperate or you've got
you've got so much leverage on them and you can
get anything in the world that you want. And I mean,
it's just it's it's it's craziness. And the other thing
is like the first Collared Alliance has got to be
looking around going Joe, Judge, you got a job and
(01:03:35):
we can't get at the enemy. It sniff, like, what's
going on here? I don't get this at all? Like
they score points in Kansas City, What did New England
do We'll just wait. Sam Retiguliana will be in for
another interview momentarily. I can't. Wow. That's a big ball
(01:03:58):
right there can follow the ghosts of Sam White appearing whoa, whoa, whoa,
come on too soon? Too soon? No, it's never too soon.
I am never too soon with anything. The man's been
in the grave for three or four days. He is
a Pro Football Hall of Fame voter at least tonight.
(01:04:21):
And second, I'll tell you may not be standing up
for Tony Basselli coming up in a few weeks. I
might have to knock that his speech on the way.
I don't know Basselli's gonna go. Wait, he was my guy?
What did he do? What do you mean? Stupid interview?
You can fall on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
That is at Jason Cole sixty two, editor in chief
(01:04:43):
at fansided dot com. Oh boy, saying everything you don't
like his way, Jacole forward, it is it is always
an experience, Jacole, Thank you so, brother. I mean, you know,
(01:05:04):
we do the whole too soon thing and you, oh yeah, no,
it's not like whoa dude, you put a date on it.
In the whole nine yard what is wrong with you?
What's wrong with people? Oh my god? But Sam White
would have laughed, there is Yeah, he would have said,
anybody who sees anybody throwing something on this field coming
(01:05:24):
up in ninety seconds. So now that there's one big
head coaching opening left, what is going to happen? Yes,
finally that's it, and that's just walk off. I'm like
Rob Parker. Eventually I'll get it right. Yeah, yeah, broken
clock is right twice a day, That's right. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
(01:05:46):
Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
What Am out and get him out of here? I
didn't I really miss that. That was I mean, that's
one of the great moment. It's an NFL history Sandwich.
I'm played quite a bit and think about how staid
and useless most coaches are with their commentary. Sam White
(01:06:09):
was not that guy. Last head coach to win a
playoff game for the Bengals is Sandwich. That's what it was.
He was fun Sandwich. He was a lot of fun. Uh.
We talked about the Browns now being the only team
left with a head coaching opening. As you said, listen,
there's no rush now because everybody else has their guy.
It's really Josh McDaniels or bust for the Browns. Everybody
(01:06:32):
else went through their hiring process. Nobody else wanted Josh McDaniels,
which tells you what teams think of McDaniels as a candidate.
He was hot two years ago, and then he decided
to pull his candidacy at the last minute to stay
with the Patriots, most likely because he was promised, Hey,
when Belichick leaves, you'll be the head coach. But now
Brady looks like he's out, which means Belichick is staying.
So now Josh McDaniels will interview again. Nobody went crazy
(01:06:56):
about Josh McDaniels. Oh, we got no mcde We gotta
go to talk to me, and there's a bidding war.
The Cowboys hired their guy, no Josh McDaniels. The Panthers
hired their guy, No Josh McDaniels. The Giants hired hired
Joe Judge over Judge McDaniels. Joe Judge is walking around
Patriots today. I am sorry, really tell you, Josh, I'm
(01:07:17):
so sorry, man, I who knew this is gonna happen?
It was, It was not don't even have an agent.
I had to get a phone call today saying, hey,
the Giants want to hire you. Was there a coach? Yeah,
but he probably got I mean, I don't haven't seen
anything about terms for for Judge. But he's not getting
any money. He's not getting money. He's just he's they're gonna,
you know, let him stay in at three years of
(01:07:38):
title and a plaque, rent rent free in an apartment
and you know, they'll, you know, give him a stipend
for groceries. And that's what it's gonna be for just
based on what we saw from Rule and they in
the dollars and cents and the fact that the Giants
wanted no part of that and wouldn't match it. And
immediately go to Judge, what are we talking half half price?
I mean? And then as Jason Cole says, I mean,
(01:08:00):
Josh McDaniels, given the level of success through the years,
obviously a little explaining to do what what he needs
to from the offense this year, but still Brady was
four thousand yards twenty four and eight with anybody that
watched them lesser parts this year. Whatever you want to.
The Brady discussions a thing for another time, But for
Josh McDaniels, in theory, should be able to back up
(01:08:23):
the brinkstruck Jalen Ramsey, Right, but now you only have
one job. How much how much was their overall interest
in Josh McDaniels. You can see there wasn't that much
because teams would have said, hang on, let me, let me,
let me, let me tap the brakes on this. We
want to talk to Josh McDaniels. So now for the Browns,
it's Josh McDaniels or bus because now there's really nobody
(01:08:44):
else out there. And Josh McDaniels, who came in and
was clearly overmatched his first time around with Denver, now
is gonna come in with a quarterback who may or
may not be a franchise guy, a wide receiver who
you know is going to do whatever the hell he
wants too in the off season. He's not gonna look
in and say, oh, Josh McDaniels is a is gonna
be the stabilizing force and the guy gotta listen to, Yeah,
(01:09:06):
I'm staying away. Odell's gonna continue to do his thing. Oh,
that wasn't the Syracuse game today. He was he was
looking good. That was a good jackety at Ull. Why
was he? I don't know why was This was Syracuse
put out you want that's true, that's true, that's true.
But in theory, I mean someone sold them on the
fact that they've been a winning program. Odell and Syracuse.
Maybe they told him to play. Did he look longingly
(01:09:27):
up at the rafters at that Carmel. I think he
looked embarrassed when the cameras found he's kind of putting
his Well, the guy next to sit in front of
did not want to be seen sit in front of me,
sit in front of me. He held his beverage cup
in front of his face for seemingly an hour. Yeah,
but there is no there there's no real impetus for
Josh McDaniels. And is Josh McDaniels. You need someone who's
(01:09:48):
gonna come in and take the Browns organization by the
throat and say this is my team, this is mine.
You are gonna do everything I tell you, And he's
gonna do that. He's gonna command that respect in the
locker room. That's not gonna happen. See, I was hoping
you'd see from what the level of success the chiefs had.
This is where I thought the enemy was. Was the
guy to come in and do this. We got this,
(01:10:11):
Let's go. All the other chief's offensive coordinators got jobs.
They've they've all been able to do. This was the
next step. Of course, you know, we will may never
know reality of was this something that was kind of
on the table. It's like, well, look at the way
they treat coaches, you know, to be enemy. Does he
does he interview? Well? Did he not? Was it? You know,
you don't know what it's gonna be. But still it's
(01:10:32):
like this guy, you really have to talk to him
if you like all the other chiefs hosties and they
kept it going under him. That's a really tough part.
Twitter at how about a fresca Mike at Swollen Dome
coming up next day, a possible solution medically if your
teams are really, really bad. It's coming up next on Fox.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith

My best Friend Mike harmon and maybe this is the
solution to all our problems. You yeah, I mean this,
This could be the solution to all of our problems.
(01:11:18):
There's been a petition sent to the Ohio State Medical
Board and the Ohio State Medical Board, not Ohio State University,
the Ohio the State Medical Board needs help because they
have gotten twenty eight petitions for qualifying conditions for medical
(01:11:39):
marijuana treatment. Among them petitions saying hey, I need medical marijuana,
Okay why and usually get people go, oh my back,
I got a neck, I got an ear, I got
a thing sep right, all the all these things. Oh yeah, no,
the back injuries and ability to sleep is a good thing.
(01:11:59):
But these on the eight petitions. The reasons are being
a Bengals or Browns fans. It hasn't expanded yet. This
is the one in Ohio that was and you need
something much stronger for Jets fan. But don't cut and
paste it medical crack. You need more more than that.
You need you need maybe a full lobottom because any
(01:12:23):
other drug is probably gonna get you too amped. And
this is about relaxing yourself. Right, people saying I want
I need medical marijuana because I'm a Bengals or brown
But we have talked about the ineptitude of the Browns
to get out of their own way, the constant cycling
through of coaches, in front office staff, quarterbacks. Right, Baker
(01:12:45):
Mayfield set a record for being the guy to quarterback
all sixteen games. That's kind of a big deal. Uh.
And then in Cincinnati, I mean, we've been just talking
about the last time they had any level of playoff success.
They've been there under Marvin Lewis. They got there, they
just didn't win. I like how it's gone from we're
super Bowl threats here Cleveland, where the Cleveland Browns? To now, Dude,
(01:13:08):
I need I need, I need pot man, because I'm
a Browns fan. Where the Browns again? You know, I
just need it. I feel like we need to go
to a Brown's tail. If this goes through, think about
how many people are gonna say, hey, hey, I'm a
Mets fan. Hey, whatever you want, I'm gonna open the
cupboard for you. Just show up whatever you want behind
you that I'm gonna leave. I'm the lead pharmacist. I
(01:13:30):
will leave to go to lunch and a half hour
take whatever you need. But it's funny this feels like
out of there's probably a number of things where you
reasonably go Okay, I can see that, Yeah, I can
see that, and then this is the one that gets
it over right. This is the one that gets into
it's notoriety. It's like a lot of bills that go
in in front of your your local legislatures and there's
(01:13:51):
something tacked onto the back end of it. It's like, oh,
that was a great theory. Oh, you also realize that
you did this, So now we're taking away all of
the gym structures that every grade school because of what
you passed. But you thought it was a good idea,
didn't you. Here it's all of this. By the way,
we also took care of Browns and Bengals fans, So
look out on the roads on Sundays. You know. I
(01:14:13):
think my favorite part of the story is a reported
by w B N S in in Ohio, in Columbus
did this whole thing. Hey, you know, talking to people
on the streets. What do you think about this? Yeah?
It was actually w T HC. I'm sorry, is that
what it was? Sorry that that was? I should If
that hasn't been ready, let's let's get that I should
have had that. That should have been that's a good one, Frostburg.
(01:14:34):
I should have had that. Uh, they asked w b NS.
You know they do the man on the street thing.
You know, they started asking people. Uh, this is a
quote from the column when we asked if people thought
this could become a past condition and passed P A
S S E D, like people could get medical marijuana
from being a Bengals or Browns fan. Quote, many said,
probably not. Do you think this could work? I hope so,
(01:14:57):
but you know, probably not. No, you're hoping that one
of those other twenty seven reasons is enough to push
I mean the look, you can't the Browns, at least
in theory, have hope. The Bengals, You're like, what are
we gonna do? I mean, we've we haven't won a
playoff games since Sam White was our coach, and another
we're mentioning Sam White like every five minutes on the
show tonight. You know, you got a better case for
the Bengals and the Browns. Browns, you got Baker Mayfield.
(01:15:20):
I'd love to see this argued in court. Look at
the scale position Jpe. But wait, don't you have Baker Mayfield?
Odell Beckham. Yeah, but no, no, latic were Oh Dell,
we got Odell Odell. It is great. That would be
a great judge. Odell is not Joe judge, but I'd
be a great judge. Oh is great. Now you want
pod forget it. Get out of my courtroom. I don't
(01:15:41):
have cancer. I'm a Browns man. To get out it
really is. I'm a Jets fan. How do you feel
that Adam Gates? I hate the guy. Here you go,
I'll use some my personal stay. Here's two first class
tickets to Tijuana. Get anything right now, I'm January six.
That's the last time the Bengals want a playoff game
two ten thousand hundred nine, two days ago. Now, wow,
(01:16:03):
you just reminded them. Yeah, John Well, I got to
I take out the club. Maybe it'll get them reaching
towards the little cabinet there. NFL writer for CBS Sports
is John Breach. He goes, my dad was the last
Bengals player to score a point to play. He's now
sixty three years old. That's the name of the new
strand a weed out there. This beach going up. Next,
(01:16:28):
we get back into the biggest story of the NFL.
This Sports Radio be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten
pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio AP. Greetings, Welcome inside our three
of The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon,
(01:16:48):
and uh, things look good for the Knicks and then
they tipped off. Lakers lead the Knicks sixty nine fifty
five with about eight minutes to go in the third quarter.
It has been all Lakers since the midway point of
the first quarter. Lebron has eighteen. A quiet night for
(01:17:09):
Anthony Davis who has just five, but Danny Green with eleven,
Avery Bradley's got ten. Everybody getting in on the act,
and the Lakers are comfortably in front of New York.
The big moment in this game the ejection, got ejected,
the ejection dirty. Bobby Porters got ejected, got ejected. That
(01:17:32):
was filthy the Knicks. Bobby Porters was ejected from this game,
maybe after what he would have been after clotheslining. Contavious
called weell Pope on a breakaway lay up attempt and
to show you how bad it was, obviously look it's
making its way on Twitter it's a big thing virally.
This is where if the NBA gathered all the rookies
(01:17:55):
in before they started play this year's say congratulations on
making the NBA. You're gonna hear a lot of people
talk to you about different things and how to conduct
yourself an NBA player. I'm here to show you what
will get you ejected from a game if you commit
this foul. And they will show a replay of this
play because with k CP coming in from the left,
Bobby Porter is coming in from the right, and it's
(01:18:17):
just a complete wind up and Clothesline doesn't go for
the ball, just I am going to clock you as
hard as I can, and Coal Pope gets hit in
the head. He goes down, he comes out of the game,
goes to the locker room under his own power, so
it looked like he was okay. Porters gets objected. He
should have, because that's about as dirty a play as
(01:18:39):
you could get. Looking around as if, well, what did
I do, It's like I went from the ball. No,
there's there's no replay, there's no angle that would exonerate him.
Even even the NFL would get this right. In terms
of kicking playing. The NFL man, I don't know. I
know you can say that I thought it was all
(01:18:59):
NFL can at this rains Clowney would have got away
with this. This was just absurd and they're already down.
Marcus Morris did not play in this game. Look, it's
also the nick that No, I don't think Nicks man,
I don't know. I like watching the guy play, so
I felt a little salty that he was unavailable. He's
gonna tortis does this nonsense? Look, don't don't sell yourself short.
(01:19:22):
Marcus Morris is gonna be one of the big trading
deadlight exactly, a great scene. He's been fantastic, So you
lose a star quote unquote for the Knicks here and
he's Look, he might have been sizing up the locker
room while he was here, as if he could be
one of those trade deadline acquisitions as we keep talking about.
(01:19:44):
But watching here, it's it's really just been Lebron James,
who was questionable game time decision illness, and they milked
that for all it was worth. And he's got and
then he's rolling along, right, he's got twenty midway through
the third Yeah, really really tough night for Lebron look,
but this is this is exactly how you expected this
game to go for the Lakers. And and look, not
(01:20:06):
every night. This looks like Anthony Davis has a night
off tonight. It's like, yeah, fine, whatever else, I got
five points and taking seven shots. Yeah, just not my
night tonight. I don't really care. But you know, the
big drama surrounding the Lakers is not so much about
their record about coming back from things. Now. It's really
become what do we do to get better? Because we've
(01:20:29):
talked about the Lakers issues of a few days ago,
and that My only real concern is are the Lakers
a regular season champion type team? When you're playing one
of a D two and here's Lebron and a D
and good luck stopping them, it's one thing. But then
when you're playing a seven game series against them, you
can shut them down and they're not getting offense from
(01:20:50):
anybody else. There's nobody else coming to the rescue, going yeah,
I'll give you all these points. I'll give you twenty
five points, like there's nobody that can do that. This
is why I always say I like the Clippers better
long term because they have those guys. The Lakers don't
have anybody you can count on to say, all right
when we need baskets and if Lebron is not getting
him or a d is not getting them. Every team
(01:21:11):
that wins a championship has a great supporting cast because
you need that supporting cast in the playoffs. The Lakers
don't have that. They need shooters. So now we saw
reports today on on many different sites that the Lakers
are listening to offers for Kyle Kuzma, and they range
from offers I've seen saying, or potential trade scenarios I've
(01:21:34):
seen going Okay, Madonovitch might be nice if you can
get him. He's going to the last year of his
cons There's a couple of them that are floated out there.
But it's all about making the money. Makes sense, right,
based on what Kuzma makes compared to some of these batteries. Well,
you know, is gonna throw cigarettes in there. Oh yeah,
He'll throw a whole truck full of cigarettes. He'll he'll
just drive and bo, he's gonna drive him down. He's
(01:21:54):
just gonna drive down from Sacramento with him. He takes
the coastal route. He gets to see some some good views.
It's good. I think he uses his own voice on ways.
I have Paul Mall, I have Marlborough, I have whatever
you need. We smoke, we all will smoke together, we all,
we all will have time for smoke break. You know,
I think bloody Instead of the videos that you see
(01:22:15):
when when when a player signs and he holds up
the jersey at the press conference, everybody smiles, It's just
be everybody smoking cigarettes. Just I want to see the
rookies with cigarettes going what he's the Mike Lingard of
the n B A Mike Lingard a man who works
in the building known to take a nice smoke break
or two. But if you do select body for ways,
(01:22:36):
do you get two different trips. So it's like it
will take you in five hours no smoke break, seven
hour with you can smoke in the car, if you
can smoke in the car, but maybe you do maybe
the other a couple of miles an hour off because
it's really hard to get that cigarette to get rid
of the ash out the window if the wind is
blowing in your face. Well, but just from you know,
trying to be kind to your partner, your spouse, your kids, whatever.
(01:23:00):
Maybe you don't smoke in the car. Maybe he decides,
you gotta go out into mother nature. And that's why
picture of lady and everybody you have. You have the
rookie player, you have the coach agent. Everybody's just smoking
a cigarette instead of holding up the jersey. Can we
superimpose Blodie back into one of those ads that the
flint Stones used to do. Hey, you gotta inhale, You
gotta inhale, all right, that's the rule. You can't just
(01:23:22):
you can't just fake it. You gotta inhale. That are
gonna work hard and give me here. But this is
what I don't like about the offers they're getting is
that Kuzma is a guy that can make shots. I mean,
this shows you how far his stock has fallen in
that last year. At this time, he was Lebron's one A.
(01:23:46):
He was, Hey, you know what. The chemistry they have
on the court is undeniable, and Lebron and Kyle Kuzma
work great together. Kuzma can go for thirty, he's in
the spot. Lebron likes him to be at on the
court at all times, and Kuzma was the one touchable
right whatever we were throwing out trade ideas at this
time last year for Anthony Davis, it was yes, a
Lonzo go right in Ingram go, Josh Hard go, I
(01:24:08):
gotta go. No, But Kuzma's gotta stay. He was he
works with Lebron and he became the rep at the
draft and he was the face. And now it's Kyle Kuzma.
We're looking to trade him. This is why I don't
like this, because the Lakers need more shooters. They need more.
They need quantity, all right. It's not like they're missing
one guy. They need a couple of guys. If they
(01:24:30):
trade Kuzma, they need three guys who can come off
the bench and score. Because KCP is not doing it,
Rondo's not doing it, Caruso is not doing it. Nobody
they have is coming off the bench that's gonna be
able to score points. They need three guys. That's the inflat.
That's the difference between the Lakers right now being a
paper regular season champion and a team that can win
(01:24:51):
the championship is they need three guys that can score,
not three shooting guards, but you need three guys off
the bench that can fill it up. And if you
trade Kuza, well that it's one guy now you need
three of them. I mean, you can't just make one
movement say okay, we're bringing in Magdanovitch or whoever, and
and this is gonna solve our things, all right. No,
that's one guy coming up. Are you gonna count on
him every night? No? This is why you're talking about
(01:25:12):
support players and bench players because not every night did
they score twenty five. But if you have three guys,
one every night, you're gonna hit one of them. One
of them is gonna be hot. And that's what you need.
You need that production off your bench, and the Lakers
don't have it. Just watch the Lakers when either Lebron
or Anthony Davis isn't on the floor, and you see
a team that you go, wow, there's really one option
(01:25:34):
going on right now. There's one will wind up being
in the All Star Game. But you see a team
that and you're gonna see it in the fourth quarter
because look that Lakers are gonna be up by fifty
and you're gonna see in a fourth quarter you know, Wow,
where is the offense gonna come from? Because it's not
coming from anywhere. But you need three guys. We've seen
a few games where Danny Green is is hitting big
(01:25:56):
shots and had you know, four or five three point
connections along the way. Kyle Kuzma is your third leading
score on the squad. He's not been very good. He
was injured for part of it. Is shot has been
off for much of the season. He's averaging eleven point eight.
It's the hair, do Mike Well, I mean that's is
that why they made him shave his head. Then you
had the whole thing with the trainer, so whatever the
(01:26:18):
trade value was and the possible exploration of dealing him.
Now you also have the we've got to tamp down
anything that this isn't is. This is a bigger piece
than just a distress property that they're trying to move
because he doesn't get Lebron doesn't want him there anymore.
Right after the trainer comments and him liking trainer comments
(01:26:41):
and deleting tweets and backing off and all of that stuff,
and then Lebron's body language said, if I could smack
him upside the head right now, I would. Then then
all of a sudden, the trade deadline and trade offers
start floating out. You also don't want to look weak,
as this is a piece we just have to get
rid of because there's a problem in the locker room
(01:27:02):
as you roll. But to your point, I don't know
where the veterans come from. A couple of guys are
gonna shake loose because of their contracts. They're gonna just
be be let go. So maybe you can find one
or two veterans on the cheap that can fill it
up a little bit. Maybe you go to guys who
are quote retired not retired. There's a few of those
floating about. So I don't think this Lakers team is
(01:27:25):
going to look anything like this, especially if the Knicks
get more cracks at him, because they have played dirty
basketball tonight. And right now, Anthony Davis is now on
the ground in pain. Yeah, A d just went down.
He is clutching the top of his left buttock. That's
about as well as you can that's about that's about.
That's about where it is. Yeah, he is your tailbone.
(01:27:45):
He is clutching his letting out now more towards the tailbone.
He is laying prone on the ground. Time is out,
tot to go on the third quarter, Lakers lead the
next two. They just went to commercial break on this.
This just happened as we are speaking, took a hard
fall on his tailbone area after Julius Randold drove through traffic.
(01:28:06):
There's been a lot of hard falls in this game tonight.
It's been a dirty game tonight. This play just tried
to take down JaVale McGhee about two minutes ago. He
neck tackled him. So, I mean, this is this is
one where you just want to get these guys to
the showers and get out of here healthy with a victory. Yeah.
So we'll see the replay again tonight. But this is
a d on defense and it looked like it was
(01:28:27):
an awkward fall for Anthony Davis. But again, we'll see
this as it comes out. But look, as far as
the Lakers go, as far as for trades, I mean, look,
if you want to win a championship, you have to
have a supporting cast. This Lakers team, the way it's
built right now, can go home in the second round
of the playoffs. Obviously, for finishing the top one in
(01:28:50):
the West, you're gonna play a team that is not
quite there for you. You You could struggle in the first round,
but when you play a team that sells out defensively
and can stop you, they're gonna say, listen, we're gonna
Lebron and Adian and and hold you down as much
as we can, and let's see if you have other
guys that can beat us. And the Lakers are really
vulnerable as far as that scenario goes, which is why
they need guys. That's why the Clippers. Look, that's why
(01:29:12):
having Harold Lou Williams is such a big deal. When
you can have the art, you know it's not worth Kauai,
you can sit for a few minutes, Paul George, you
can sit for a few minutes not working. Let these
guys out. Look. Lou Williams has twenty five points and
twenty minutes. Hey, that's why we're floating this game. Kauai.
Come back in the fourth quarter and have a big
quarter for us. You need that. It's not about regular season.
Regular season Lakers are fine, but when you get to
(01:29:32):
the playoffs at seven game series and teams are playing
big defensively, that's what it's all about. Don't need a
massive rotation, but certainly need one or two more guys
that can can fill it up. Right, Because Lamron James
right now averaging just shade under thirty six minutes a game,
so getting rest and some of these games, let's face it,
not a lot of stressful minutes in the second half.
(01:29:54):
But it'll be curious as we get closer to March
and April how the rotation looks and really what this
squad looks like for Frank Vogel Twitter at how about
a Fresca Mike at Swollen Dome The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon. Uh. They have just come back from
commercial break in Los Angeles and Anthony Davis is still
(01:30:14):
on the ground clutching. He was clutching at his back.
He's moving all his extremities. Now he's finally being helped
up by most of the team. He got Lebron and
Boogie and everybody saying, well picking him up, Hey you okay?
Do you okay? He is now standing uh, and but
he's not really moving towards the bench. It looks like
he's going to get aid to the bench right now.
(01:30:34):
Now you saying it straight to the locker room. Well, well,
I don't know where he's gonna walk to because he's
got to sit down at some point. Uh. He is
moving very slow and gingerly as he makes his way
off the court, but he is walking under his own power.
So that is the latest we have on Anthony. Davis
will bring you more on this coming up in a
few minutes. Auto Zone has more ways for you to

so getting his own auto Zone. We'll have more on
the a d injury, Was it dirty, was it not?
Was it a tough fall? And why Carmelo Anthony is
the number one trending topic in the world tonight. It's
coming up next Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon
(01:31:39):
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Happy Thanksgiving Everybody,
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. I've had sex with him like fifty
sixty times on camera and the third quarter Lakers lead
the Knicks eight five seventy. However, the NBA season could
have taken a huge turn just moments of oh, Julius
(01:32:01):
Randall going in for a layup and Anthony Davis and
Randall collide. Davis goes down, falls right on his tailbone,
spent about five to seven minutes on the ground in pain.
Finally was able to stand up, walked off the court
very gingerly, taking very tiny baby steps all the way.
(01:32:22):
Was not helped off the court. He was helped up
his hand standing and they tracked Gernie behind him the
entire way. Yeah, could you imagine if he slips and oh,
we weren't there to catch him as he fell, but
he walks all the way through and uh, and you know,
look to make a reference, I mean, I'm really dating myself,
But have you ever seen the old Carol Burnett shows
(01:32:43):
when when Tim Conway plays Mr Tudball and he moves
really slow? I got explained too, Generation I got explained
the Generation X who who Carol Burnette? Well, I mean
we celebrated our buddy Tim Conway and uh when he
would walk really slow. Mr Tudball, he walked really really slow.
That's kind of what Anthony Davis like walking off the floor.
(01:33:05):
There's no update on him medically, but before we get
to what it's like to fall in your tailb on
like that. The play itself not dirty. The Bobby Portis
play where he clothesline Cantavia's called well Pope earlier in
this game and Portis got ejected from this game completely
was the right call. Ports was a dirty play. He
(01:33:25):
tried to knock k c p out and he got
thrown out of the game right fully. CP went through
concussion protocol back in the game. Yes, he went, he
went out, he walked off under his own power, came
back out. Portis gets thrown out and right fully. So
this was just an awkward play. It was It was
Anthony Davis coming from the left side of the basket
(01:33:47):
and Randall coming from the It's Randall coming from the
left side and a d coming from the right side
of the basket. And when they go up, it's like
Randall's going up for the dunk or the layup, and
it looks like in in mid jump a d kind
of change his mind a little bit and doesn't go
up at him strongly, like knowing, okay, Randall's got this.
(01:34:07):
I don't want to get poster eyes. Or maybe I
maybe I I kind of back off avoid the full contact.
I avoid the contact, or I avoid the foul, and
maybe Julius Randall is out of control so much that
he misses the shot. But it looked like what happened
was he went up very softly and they collide and
(01:34:27):
Davis gets kind of thrown down on the collision and
he lands, you know, right on his his tailbone. So
that's really what it was. It was just an awkward play. Now,
if he goes up stronger and they collide, he doesn't
fall down awkwardly and fall on his tailbone, right, But
that's looks like that's what Like he changed his mind
going up like you see players with that, I'm gonna
go up like I'm gonna block this, but really I'm
(01:34:48):
gonna back away because I'm gonna get you doing something
you don't want to do and you're gonna miss the
layup or I'm not gonna get called for the foul.
But instead he was he wasn't able to get out
of the way. Of Randle enough and so they had
the contact. He falls on his tailbone and he's out
of the game again. No update on a d right now. Yeah,
just a difficult play where he's kind of caught no
(01:35:10):
man's land comes over thinking potentially for a big block
body up, and instead you get Randall coming to the
basket strong, expecting that challenge, and once he makes contact
with Davis's arms, he just goes flying and then it
becomes all right, there's no way he's landing. So he
ends up on his tailbones. Long road back to the
(01:35:34):
locker room because we'd had a couple of other because
we had the two falls, right, you had the portest play,
but then you also had another play where Bullock down
low got a neck tackled Java. So I'm like, all right,
now we're watching and if if I'm Lebron James and
I'm Anthony Davis, I'm doing everything i can to keep
(01:35:56):
myself out of harm's way. So this was I'm still
a challenge defensively and it ends up just becoming an awkward,
unfortunate fall. Nothing even tangentially related to those other two.
Those other two plays where dirty. The ports play was
very dirty. The knicks are very dirty. Then well the knicks.
The knicks are piste when they don't shower. They're so dirty.
(01:36:18):
When you suck for that long, you know you kind
of get well, he's got him playing with attitude. I
mean ever since Fizdale got fired. I mean, you know,
they still suck mine. They're not good, but they did.
They try. They've got attitude. They've got that New York attitude.
Now sure that's what is New York showing all those
game tapes. That's New York attitude. Uh so, look the
(01:36:40):
the port is played dirty. The bullet play not quite
as dirty the Randall play. This was just something fortunate.
It was unfortunate. Now, if you've ever done I hope
you haven't done that. But I did that to my
tailbone when I was a sophomore in high school. You
bruised your cox. I went. Oh I did more than that.
I went sledding. You know. It was one of those
(01:37:01):
one of those nights over Christmas break when we went
to the tube. No no, no, no, went sledding on
the golf course, uh near my house. Because the golf
course had one hole where it would go. There was
a big like hill all the way up the sides,
everybody would sled down and so we went. It was
you know, I was a sophomore. Was what you did
on a Friday night before you found other ways to
go out and have fun, you know, in the junior
(01:37:21):
and senior year. So I go sledding on on on
Saturday night and I'm there with a few of my
friends and I decided to go down on a sled,
sitting down because I'm I'm I'm trying to see where
I'm gonna go and everything. Because the first time, you know,
you go down on your stomach and you try to
turns like with a flexible flyer where you're you're you're
trying to turn and see where you're going. So I
go down, I'm sitting down, and they say, oh, there's
(01:37:45):
a jump right there, and I was like, where, Yeah,
there's a little jump there, so you want to get on.
So if you want to take that jump, it's right there.
So because they had built a little bit of a
of an incline, so you go down the hill, you
to the bottom, and you hit this little short, little
jump and you go in the air. The first time
I did it, I missed the jump because I was
on my stomach and I couldn't see because you know,
snow was coming in your face a little bit because
(01:38:06):
you're going down you're sledding. I'm going I can't see it.
So I decided I'm gonna go down sitting and I'm
gonna take the jump that way. And that was the
stupidest thing to do, because I take the sled down
sitting and I find I go right in the jump
and I go up in the air and I come
down and I hit the ground boom, and I just
go oh, and I just fall right off the side
of the sled, and I'm like, oh my god, I
(01:38:28):
can't even walk. I can't even walk. I hurt my
tailbone so bad that by the time I got I
had to walk home and it was terrible and I
had to walk. I was probably like two and a
half miles we to walk home. It was awful. And
I go and I tell my mom, I go, I
hurt my so bad whatever, So I go and I
lay down upstairs. I went to the doctor the next
day and I and I had a small crack in
(01:38:49):
my tailbone. I couldn't sit at school for a week
and a half. So for the entire that period. When
I'm going in, I am on one taking notes in class.
I told the teacher, here's my note. I you know,
I cracked my tailbone and tiny bit are you okay? Yeah,
but I just can't sit. And so I would be
on one knee and class trying to take notes and
(01:39:10):
then let me stand for a couple of minutes. It
was awful. And I did that for like ten days,
and like this is this is the worst ever. That
pain was so bad and the bruise up my back
it looked like I got a big back tattoo, like
like right, or like you know, like the boy with
the dragon tattoo over my entire like I had no
like I had an eagle like it was what it
looked like like I got an eagle on my back. Say,
(01:39:31):
here's reason for those folks in Ohio. But it was
it's still the type of guy that says, my lower
back is killing me. But it was in the but
it was in the bull's eye area of where it
was it was, but it was huge and it was
like spread. It was like it was like it was
two wings out because the bruise was so bad. And
(01:39:52):
I mean for ten I couldn't sleep, my stomach it
was it was tough. But I found a way. You know,
the human spirit always finds the note from the doctor.
Bruised coxy. That's just it was just more painful. Oh,
that was really painful because the METS I could turn
off if I felt like the METS off. If I can't,
(01:40:13):
if I can get the pain, you can't do anything
about the pain. It's just gonna be there. Just think
about this though, you in the last couple of years,
you would have been causing problems and they got, why
is he taking a knee? Oh, because he can't sit.
What you gonna give me that bruised tailbone skiing thing? Yeah,
it's exactly what happened, exactly what he did. But that
that is no fun. That is maely no fun. You
can't walk, and it's so difficult to even to You
(01:40:36):
need to lay down. You have to you have to
have your your butt like like under pillows up because
it can't be on something just for you. Oh, it
was the absolute worst. It was. I mean, I I
that I'm watching your eye. Can still remember going up
and then coming down and hitting and then just it
(01:40:56):
hurts so bad. It just fell right off to the right.
I was like, Okay, that's it, I'm done. And then
you went the white cout. No, there was no white
Castle back. You know. That would have made him feel better.
White Lace for a little while. White Castle didn't hit
staten isl until like the mid nineties. I didn't get
white not until I was going out and it was
like two in the morning going here. I didn't need anybody.
Let's go to White Castle, man, let's go. Come on.
(01:41:17):
I want to get like four double cheese burgers. It's
gonna be great. Do you ever pick anybody up at
all White Castle? No? Come on, it's not just pick
anybody up at what you're doing. Hey, I'm in the
call behind you. Hey, hey, you know I could buy
you know what? Listen, why don't you right here? Hey,
listen to you look look at me. Hey, hey, Terry,
that's your name, You've got the name caught on here?
All right, Listen, there's a really hot girl in that call,
(01:41:40):
like right behind me, right, Not not not the other
girl with the with the guy, not her, not the
other friend, No to her, the one that I'm gonna
buy her food. Right, So I'm gonna give you like
five dollars, and then you're gonna let the hot one
know that I like her, and then I'm buying a
food for and then she's gonna you know, who knows
what's gonna happen. Right, So here's that five dollars that
she's gonna get because you know, like a bird like
a burger is like you know, a dollar, right, And
(01:42:01):
here's my business card to Jason Smith, unemployed. So you're
gonna do that, and you're gonna do that thing for me, okay,
thing for me, do that thing for me. We're okay, alright.
Remember the one that's not with anybody with the big hair,
because I like big hair, alright, So that's the one
that I buy the stuff for. And if I got
money left over, hey, you know you can, you can
(01:42:23):
keep it. No, not the one with the pirate hat. No, no, no,
with the big hair. The Thatt's the one that's the one,
you know, forget it, Terry. All right, I'm just gonna go.
I'm gonna go knock on the window, get my five dollars.
Backs coming coming up, little miss muff Once, I wonder
(01:42:44):
why I've struggled so much to date in high school? Right,
she really want said on that top coming up in
ninety the play of the Night so far and why
is the number one trending topic in the United States.
But first, be sure to live editions of The Jason
Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
(01:43:04):
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I
Heart Radio app. There's Mellow making the shot of the night,
and suddenly, now, if you're a team like the Lakers
or any it's like, oh boy, maybe the guy had
a little bit more left in the tank than we expected.
He's a little bit more for a big stat coming
on from ESPN Stacks. Game winner Tonight broke the tie
(01:43:30):
with Kobe Bryant for the most go ahead field goals
in the final five seconds of a fourth quarter overtime
in the last twenty season's Well, I thought you're gonna say,
most shots taken in the final five seconds of a game.
Might have that too, if only the Knicks had him
the night. Guess you can only make the ones you take.
Most shots taken in the final five seconds of the
(01:43:51):
shot clock, Carmalo Anthony number one. Look, Mellow has played
better than expect better than I expected. I didn't think
he'd had enough left. I didn't think he would be
able to have anything. It's been a little bit less
than a month and things have been okay for Mellow
so far. He hasn't played in a while. Can he
keep it up? Everything's been good so far from Melo,
I I gotta be honest with you. He has been
(01:44:14):
better than expected and the game winner tonight. I'm glad
he's having this kind of end to his NBA career
rather than just Hey, I'm out, no one's gonna sign
me anymore, and I'm just gonna fade away, because like
the guys, played for a long time and he's made
a lot of money. He's someone we talked about for
a long time. You always want players who move the
(01:44:37):
needle that way to be able to go out a
little bit more in their own terms. At least it's
more him going out in his own terms now than
it was just him kind of sitting around. Well just
I think what we've got is just a celebration of
and recognition of what type of player Carmelo or Anthony
was right the last couple of years where a laughing stock.
He got mocked for staying in New York, which was
something he didn't move around, at least wantingly after he
(01:45:02):
ended him in New York signed that deal. It's not
his fault. They offered him a brings truck full of money. Right,
every one of us would have looked at that said okay,
I'm in. And so then the game changed and it's
been derisive terms on Carmelo Anthony ever since. So at
least for a moment, when you hit a big shot
like this and some of the the games that he's
(01:45:25):
been able to put up, then you at least say,
all right, there's some shades of the guy we remember.
Whether that gets him off to another team or he
fits a need long term doesn't matter, at least for tonight.
We celebrating. Uh meanwhile, another thing to celebrate right now,
according to Rich Paul, now not the Lakers, which tells
you the power of Rich Paul. Anthony Davis's agent, Rich Paul,
(01:45:47):
We're getting an update on Anthony Davis's tailbone from his agent.
Rich Paul. Came by the media table this according to
many sources reporting this game. It's on Fox right now.
Anthony davis x rays were negative, but he is sore,
So good news for a d X rays negative because
(01:46:09):
if you have a cracktail boat something, you're out a while.
But but right now X rays negative. But he is sore,
so likely he's gonna miss tonight. They don't play again
until Friday, so potentially does he come back Friday if
he misses a game? Not that big A well, the
big deal to make sure that this news gets out
fast is earlier today. The other story involving Anthony Davis,
which seems in the formality, was that he rejected the
(01:46:31):
four years. Of course he did right well, which is
it's just the obvious thing. So Rich Paul, as soon
as this happens, like oh my god, no, like trays
X rays extra, everybody needs to know to stop right
and put those boys and beds down. But don't bends
down in the sacral contusion. You can't say that on
(01:46:53):
the I'm pretty sure I just don't that. I don't
think you kind of religious sacral contusion. That's also sounds
like a movie that I could watch late at night
on television. For those that don't know, the sacrum is
located above the COXYX or tailbone. Anatomy one oh one
with Justin Frostburg brought to you by Fox Sports Radio.
(01:47:16):
Arnold Schwarzenegger's mad Sacral contusion a heavy metal band. If
ever there was the chop up sacral contusion, I'll be
back for your tailbone. You know you couldn't get something
(01:47:37):
good from predator or something he had kindergarten top one
Twitter and how about a fresca. Mike gets swollen sacral contusion.
So good news for Anthony Davis. A sacral contusion will
likely missed tonight. It also sounds like it's very religious.
A sacra, That's what I mean, is one of those things.
What kind of ceremony are we having to go along
(01:47:59):
with sacral heading to the rectory for some sacral contusion? Uh?
Coming up a big no. I mean like you like
you have to pray or you have to rectory. The
directory is the living quarters. So now you gave it,
gave it? What's the part on top where where where
(01:48:20):
like the the organ is and everything else? What that's
not the rectory? Oh I didn't know that. No, No,
we're not even trying. I swear no. I thought the
rectory was wearing like the part of the top where
the piano is and the and the camels are Oh,
all right, I did not know that. I really didn't
swear to me, Sacristy, swear to I didn't know that.
(01:48:41):
I'm not knowing about all right now, none of you
aren't helping, Thank you very much. But coming up next,
something that's not this Fox Sacristy. That was the word,
and make God less, California. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
(01:49:01):
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. I'm defective, John Kimball,
Fox Sports Radio that Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon again if you're just tuning in. Anthony
Davis left tonight's game with the Knicks falling on his
tailbone area after stop after Julius Randall goes up for
a dunk lands awkwardly. According to agent Rich Paul again,
(01:49:23):
this is shows you the true power status of the Lakers.
Anthony Davis's agent letting everybody know that a D was okay.
X rays were negative, but he is sore right now,
so a D gonna miss the rest of the game tonight.
The Lakers don't play again until Friday. Maybe plays in
that one or it's later on. He returns. But at
least it's good news. And it looks like a d
(01:49:44):
is alright, just a sacral contusion. Sacral contusion. And yes,
sacristy was the word I was looking for at the end,
I tried to help you. That was not past sacristy.
That was the word I was looking for. But obviously
today has been a big day in the NFL because
we had head coaching hirings that were filled the Giants,
(01:50:04):
the Carolina Panthers, and now the Browns are sitting around
going jeez, what the hell do we do? Matt Rule
was the name out there following Mike McCarthy getting hired
by the Dallas Cowboys, and today the Carolina Panthers went
out and got their guy. I'm not excited about Matt
Rule because I don't know what kind of coach he's
gonna be. Turned bailer around and that's great, but is
(01:50:27):
he a next level guy? Can he get in the NFL?
He was an assistant for one year in the National
Football League and now here you are in charge of
the Carolina Panthers. So I'm not sold on him as
being a great coaching candidate. But he was the best
of what was there because all you can do when
you're hiring somebody is take the best out of an
available candidate pool. And look, as we told you, the
Canada pool was really, really shallow this year. But what
(01:50:49):
I do like is that the Panthers were able to
identify the guy they wanted right away, Matt Rule, and
the Panthers were joined the hip. Hey, Matt Rules, the
guy the Panthers were talking doing. First, they wanted him,
he went through the interview process, and today they signed
Matt Rule, gave him seven years and sixty million, way
more money than they had to. But we want to
show we believe in Matt Rule. Here's seven years and
(01:51:11):
sixty million dollars. So he's our guy. So I give
the Panthers credit for that. I'm not sold on him
as a head coach, but when you believe this is
your guy, they went out and completed the top to bottom,
which shows you they're a better organization right now than
the Browns and the New York Giants. Well, choose a
lane and go to it right with the Giants. McCarthy,
they liked him, but they didn't love him. To steal
(01:51:34):
your line, as you, sitan, we'll try to do your
best impression of our our colleague Chris brus sar. But
the idea of you let him go to Dallas and
then Jerry got his chance to win, heard what he
wanted to hear differences of what McCarthy wants to do,
and now he's assembling his staff bit by bit. When
we look at the the Browns still wondering what their
(01:51:55):
direction is. With the Panthers, you got a guy who's
a businessman and made it clear, I'm gonna run this
like a business right mid season fires Ron Rivera. Players
might have rallied for him like they did for Dan
Quinn in Atlanta, if they really felt the heat was on,
but they didn't. He didn't give it to that point, right,
He didn't take the broad The temperature of the room
(01:52:16):
decided already it's time to move on from Ron Rivera.
He immediately goes to Washington, where at least for now
he's got a lot of power under Daniel Snyder. We
look at what tempers trying to do. Rule comes in.
We built a couple of programs, right Temple couple back
to back, I mean back to back ten wins seasons.
And then he goes to Baylor on the heels of
all the scandals able to resurrect that program and they're
(01:52:39):
winning as of now. No hint of scandal under him
other than sending a text to say goodbye to his players,
which is kind of crappy, but well, he went from
ten days ago. It was Hey, of course I'm gonna
talk to the NFL. I'll tell him no, and then
I'm back. Yeah, that's how it worked. Well, all he
had to do is one line. Guys, look at all
the money they offered me. This is crazy man. Seven years,
(01:53:02):
sixty plus million with bonus is gonna top out over
seventy million. But he's given carte blanche to build a program.
That's what Tepper said. He liked about what Matt Rule
had been able to do and his two head coaching
stops that you've seen. So the idea is, you get
to decide how we're building around Christian McCaffrey, d J. Moore,
(01:53:24):
Curtis Samuel and that base. On the offense. Now you
gotta figure out what you're doing with Cam Newton, but
you at least have a guy who's been given a
directive and has direction and ability to make decisions. I
can see him bringing Cam Newton back for one more year.
We said this at the time because obviously we saw
the way that the quarterback situation planet. It wasn't quite
(01:53:45):
the way it was after Allen played the first few weeks.
But I can see still Cam Newton coming back for
a year, and I can see the Panthers be in
that bold team saying let's go draft, let's move up,
let's go up and get to uh, let's go up
and do it. We draft seventh, we have the capitol.
We can move up to second or third and go
get to a tong of viola and he's our guy,
and either we we can keep Cam for one more
(01:54:06):
year or after we draft to Hey, someone's gonna be
looking for a quarterback. You want Cam, Let's figure something out.
All of those things are on the tap. Like we've
talked about, Cam's got one year left on the deal
at nineteen point five, only two million dead cap It's
all in Carolina's court. Twitter at how about a fresc up,
Mike and swollen home coming up next? More reaction to
(01:54:26):
what's going to be a Lakers win over the New
York Knicks, and the big NFL story of the day.
Involves a judge. Fox. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app. A. Sacral Contusion Now,
(01:54:51):
I take you out. Sacral Contusion Detective Kid taking the
stage next as part of oz Fest twenty twenty. Sacral Confusion.
No no no no no no no no no no, no,
no no. That would be with Cacle Contusion, would be
(01:55:12):
the Sacrale Contusion sounds like the band that would be
like of the six bands that are playing before Metallica,
They're like the first one there, the band that goes
on at three o'clock in the afternoon. Get in early,
start drinking. A couple of folks at you and Sacral
Condusion and the lead singer of Cacle Contusion here, We're
gonna play a half hour on the Metallica bill. Were
(01:55:34):
like nights build on this. I want to say, I
love the creativity of our audience. We love you all.
Happy New Year, thanks for being with us as we
celebrate the beginning of another year of our partnership here
on Fox Sports Radio. The fact that someone immediately went
to Twitter and registered contusion sacral Oh good, alright, Well,
(01:55:54):
people want to make sure they can get on Twitter
with that as their Twitter accounts, so you know they
response to to what we say here on Fox Sports Radio.
So sacral contusion. The reason this has become a phrase
now is because this is the diagnosis for Anthony Davis.
Lakers beat the next one seven. It wasn't a game until,
you know, since the midway point of the second quarter.
(01:56:16):
But Anthony Davis gets hurt in this game, a very
chippy game in which we watched Bobby Portis get ejected
for a roundhouse clothesline of Contavia's called well Pope. We
saw Reggie Bullock with a with a borderline dirty play
as well. The play that knocked Anthony Davis out of
the game not a dirty play. It was Julius Randall
going in for a layup and Anthony Davis kind of
(01:56:38):
backed away after he had leapt in the air. The
collision was awkward. Davis fell on his tailbone, was down
for about five minutes left the game, walked off the
court under his own power, but very slowly. The update
from Rich Paul is a sacral contusion, which means that
this is a sore. But for Anthony Davis, X rays
(01:57:05):
were negative according to Rich Paul, so it looks like
a d is okay. They don't play again until Friday,
so maybe he plays Friday, maybe he doesn't. But really
the Lakers, it's okay for no Anthony Davis four games.
Look look tonight, embarrassing they did. They should be embarrassed
as the next wait tea just tonight. This is why
(01:57:27):
I need to be embarrassed by the next one of
the reasons, one of the fifty seven reasons. This one,
there's a lot of a lot of years to it here.
I mean, look, you go after KCP class list and
JaVale McGee. The other one is just an unfortunate play. Unfortunately,
it happens at the back end of what was already
a chippy game, so it's gonna be highlighted as a
(01:57:49):
look what happened here. No, Julius Random went and made
sure he stood there the entire time as Anthony Davis. Right,
But that's it he's going up for and that he
Davis goes to try to challenge and probably thinks the
better of trying to get all in Julius Random. That's
a lot of guy flying through towards the rack. So
(01:58:09):
he decided, you know what, I'm not going to take
the body contact, kind of reached his arms over and
instead lands awkwardly on his coxics. And now we have
sacra contusion into the litany of phrases. I mean, that's
gonna be the number one, the first in the Smith
Harmon Dictionary of twenty nine. As we get things rolling.
(01:58:30):
But yeah, you've got a frustrated Knicks team and they
decided there we're gonna play the heavyweights hard. And then
it got chippy, and then it got dirty. I mean,
the portest play is just there's no that's no excusing
it anyway. That's what they said. Maybe he will be
you never know. I mean that's the play they show
(01:58:50):
at Rookie Symposium, is going if you do this, you're
gonna get ejected. Did this this roundhouse, big clearing out
with your right arm and just completely going for k
cps head. No, that's completely dirty, completely dirty, and I
get it, and the bullet play borderline dirty as well.
Look I'm not selling it, but did Julius Randall play
(01:59:11):
Listen watch the replay. It's making its way around the
Anthony Davis play. Julius Randall is is coming at the
hoop from the baseline and a D is coming in
to make a defensive play. And Randall leaps for the
hoop and a D jumps up to defend him. And
it looks like a D changed his strategy midway in
(01:59:31):
the air because he goes up kind of softly, doesn't
go up bang. He goes up kind of softly, almost
like his strategy was I'm gonna go up soft and
instead of that collision that Randall's expecting, I'm going to
back away. And Randall, while bracing for that collision, throws
the ball up awkwardly gets a bad shot. I don't
get called for a foul. You see it so many
(01:59:52):
times in the NBA. Player goes up, but in the
end bound backs away and you see a guy miss
a layup because he's bracing for contact, and and that's
what happens. That's what it looked like. The play looks
like a D goes up in midway. He kind of
changes his strategy, but he doesn't move out of the
way of Julius Randall enough and they wind up banging.
He gets hit at an awkward angle and lands and
(02:00:15):
falls right on his tailbone. He's holding his tailbone for
a good five minutes before he's helped up by his
teammates walks off the floor under his own power, but
very very slowly. That play, it was just it's one
of those things that happens in basketball, and I'm glad
he's okay. The other two plays, yeah, I've got nothing
to really say about that because you know, especially the
Porter's play that was already no place in basketball for
(02:00:36):
he's probably gonna get suspended at least a game, maybe two.
But the Julius Randall play, it's one of those plays.
It just happened. It was just awkward contact. Well it
was the attempt at least as he goes up to
challenge Randall, like it was going to be a big
defensive moment. Right, I'm defensive player of the year. Here's
my here's my big statement play from this game that
(02:00:58):
everybody's paying into a two because the Knicks, as bad
as they are, everybody pays attention to what's going on,
and the Lakers are top of mind every time they
hit the court. So you have the the idea of
all right, I'm gonna go challenge Randall, but then you remember, hey,
he's six, that's a lot. I'm a big guy, but
that he's coming full force, coming in for the big dunk,
(02:01:22):
and instead of just saying you want to forget it,
I'm gonna live to see another day and giving up
the dunk, he half contested right just enough to where
there's no chance of him landing right and or nor
does he fall out full on off the hits, so
instead you get the I'm trying to kind of catch
one leg to see if I can get my body
(02:01:43):
right instead goes straight down to the court. It's an
unfortunate thing, but in the larger context of this game,
I can see where people immediately start raising their eyebrow
going ah, until you actually see it and watch it
again and see how this play transpires, because even the
other two incidents we had, it becomes the yeah, they
were just out for blood. And we've got people in
(02:02:06):
l A media that are using that play as in
Big Dail's that guys, guys, guys, Yeah, let's let's give
your your viewers and listeners some credit that they may
have actually watched the game or seen the replay in
their Twitter feeds at this point, look and if you
want to talk about a a larger outlook for it
and not the fact that today Anthony Davis turned down
the four year, hundred forty six million dollar contract extension
(02:02:28):
by the Lakers, because that's why went down the line.
He's not nothing broke. I got the facts ready, I
could facts and you signed. If you're hurt, I can
signed facts at six million dollars. Look, obviously he turned
down the four years, one forty six because in the
summer he can sign for five years and over two
hundred millions. This is what Anthony Davis was always going
to do, but the Lakers made the offer just in
(02:02:49):
case eight he wanted it, and he said no. Nothing
has has changed as far as Anthony Davis staying a Laker. Look,
five years and two hundremillion, it's better than four years
hundred forty six. So that's likely what's gonna happen. But
what this should be is this should be a larger
picture for the Lakers, and that you know, you had
a couple of minutes there where you thought we could
(02:03:09):
be without Anthony Davis. Here for what happens. If that happens,
can we stay afloat without Anthony Davis, if we lose him,
if we lose lebra if something happens, can we stay afloat?
And the Lakers have to get a sense of urgency
coming office that they know they can't All right now,
we've gotten into this before then the last week Jason
Smith Mike Harmon here at Fox Sports Radio is that
(02:03:31):
my concern for the Lakers is that they're a regular
season dominant team. When other teams come in and play
the Lakers one out of a D two, it's tough
to stop Lebron in a D. It's hard. You're thinking,
we're gonna do our best and in the end where
we're onto the next game the next night. The Lakers
are the best team in the Western Conference, arguably the
best team in the NBA the way they're playing. But
(02:03:54):
in a playoff series a D and Lebron and nothing else,
because that's really what the Lakers are. You can cow
and on you can't count on anybody else. Right now,
that's a team that loses in the second round of
the playoffs because when you're playing every night and the
way teams have the uptick in defense, and you're playing
these guys seven nights, you know, four out of seven.
It's really tough to try to find offense when you
(02:04:15):
haven't had it all year because there's nobody else the
Lakers can say besides a D and Lebron. We rely
on this guy, all right. You can't say you're relying
on Alex Caruso can well, he is going to the
All Star Game, but you can't see you're lying on
these guys. He's five point six, right, You need you
need guys coming off the bench you can score fifteen
(02:04:37):
and twenty. This is why the Clippers are better suited
for the playoffs and for a long run because they
have at least two guys coming off the bench can
give you that. The rumors were out there today the
Lakers are listening to offers for Kyle Kuzma, and if
you trade Kyle Kuzma, if you're the Lakers, quite honestly,
you need three guys that can score. Because Kuza supposed
to be one of the guys you need to bring
it at least two that you can count on coming
(02:04:59):
off the bed to win a championship, because that's how
you win a championship. No teams that are in deep
win championships. So that's really where the Lakers have to focus.
There there there confidence on is we ought to make
sure we can go out and make a big deal
and make a couple of big deals with the deadline
and get a couple of shooters or guys that can
(02:05:19):
score if you trade Kuz. But you need three of
those guys, right. That was all the backdrop coming into
this conversation. But now you just got an up close
look at Hey a d If something happens, boy, we're
in a lot of trouble. I'm hoping that this hastens
the Lakers into making moves before they get to the
deadline where we're now, we're in a mix with a
(02:05:42):
bunch of other teams for a player we want because
the Lakers, you know, you want more time to be
able to integrate guys on on your team and to
know their role, whether it's hey, this guy is gonna
come in and start now at at at shooting guard,
Alora's coming off the bench here. You want to have
that time, and you can't just way eat until the
last minute hoping, hey we can get our guy. Because
(02:06:03):
you don't have a lot of assets. I mean, what
else can you offer traded off to get Anthony Davis.
So someone's looking to make a move right now. You know,
you want to make sure we're out there, and this
at least gives that that hesitancy and gets rid of
it and gives you a sense of urgency that all right,
we have to make sure we got now no fooling around.
Now we can sit here and and and and take
(02:06:24):
offers for Kuzma. Do we really want to trade him?
Do we not? Now? It's okay, No, we gotta get
serious about it because we gotta make sure we bring
in more offense. We find a way to get that done. Now,
you take care of business as the schedule permits, right,
twenty one and O now against teams under five. Great,
but you're playing for April, May and June. You're not
playing for now. And you look at this roster, and
(02:06:45):
even Kyle Kuzma, who was supposed to be your number three,
the way he was celebrated right as everybody else got
traded off. We had that little testy exchange between he
and Alonzo Ball when Alonzo Ball was back here the
other day right with New Orleans that you had some
salting is still going on there, Kyle Kuzmer right now,
is an eleven point eight a game score. Now, he
started slowly, but he hasn't been automatic. The jump shot
(02:07:08):
has not been consistent. Danny Green has had a couple
of big nights, but he's averaging less than nine points
a game. Right, he has a couple of big ones
and then disappearing acts as well. You just don't have
that consistent third option game in game out, and that's
one that is going to become an issue. So we're
talking about buyouts, talking about trades, whatever you can do.
(02:07:31):
Kuzma is really the only chip you have. So it's
a question can you get a couple of veterans in
And some of the trades we've seen are great, but
they always have the alright, they have to figure out
how to make salaries match like that happened that every
he's hated that part of the NBA. No, you gotta
make the salaries matchcentage, and that makes it really hard
for teams to move on from guys that they paid
money to. I mean, that's the that's the worst thing
(02:07:52):
about the NBAS. Well, you gotta make salaries match well,
especially when you see sometimes from that there's a contract
from four years ago and a guy that hasn't seen
an NBA floor four years. Hey, Keith van Hornis has
gotten traded. I thought he was done well, he is,
but his contract was still alive, so it was included
to make things match. So you have that kind of
madness through. But to the point of all of this,
(02:08:15):
for where we're at tonight, that five minutes Anthony Davis
was down on the ground and the slow, long walk
to the locker room kind of a grim reminder of
how quickly your fortunes change. Both for him, right because
the foregone conclusion of hey, get your two D plus,
but in the moment it's like, wow, all right, look
at where this could go, give an injury history in
(02:08:36):
the past for him, but also making you look take
a long look at that roster right now and be
thankful you were playing the Knicks tonight in a meaningless
early January game. We're getting an update right now from
Dave mcmanam and NBA reporter for ESPN that says, right now,
Davis is going to get an m r I on Wednesday.
He's expected to miss the upcoming road trip against Dallas
(02:08:56):
and Oklahoma City. He's gonna stay back and rehab EBB.
But like I said, it looks like it's good news
for the Lakers. Anthony Davis hopefully only out for a
couple of games here as he rests and rehab. Will
bring you more on this Lakers start hit the podium
now to talk about it. Frank Vogel talking about Anthony
Davis's injury. As things are said, we'll bring it to you.
But coming up next, the judge owned the day. Judge,
(02:09:21):
this is Fox Sports Radio. I'm gonna eat that tiny
but a ass up now. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the I Heart Radio app Sacral Contusion. Take
(02:09:42):
off your uniform, Jason, Yeah, you want to hear a
good joke? Sure? Next, head coach Mike Miller said he
thought Bobby Port has made a play for the ball
on that sequence. Oh my god, I understand sticking up
for your guys because it's the whole show. Having some
level of rationality and a grasp of reality. That's your coach.
(02:10:04):
He went for the ball, and well, what are you
talking about? He went for the ball? Yeah? What game?
Was he watching? It? I mean that was like a
flying Superman punch. It's a Germato nil style. That's the
m m A equivalent. You know, anytime the Knicks are
trending on Twitter, it's never good. They're the number one
trending topic in the in the country, right, Yeah, that
the laughing stock of the world, well of the world,
(02:10:27):
the world, of the world, of the world, the world.
Oh yeah, trying to think of some really bad soccer
teams in Europe. They played the Lakers. The world saw
the game. World. I am a little curious as to
NBA trending that Kevin Knox is at the top of
the I didn't do anything, did he. I it wasn't good.
(02:10:47):
But in doing anything, when he went one for seven
from the field, that's enough to trend. It's when you
could go one for seven from stinks. Damn a pile on. Look,
the world just watched the Knicks lose by thirty to
the Lakers. That's just the Tuesday for you. Yeah, Bobby
Portis gets thrown out for clotheslining. K CP ready went
(02:11:10):
from the ball. Reggie Bullock tries to grab JaVale McGee
twist him to the ground, and Anthony Davis gets hurt,
gets tangled up with Julius Randall, a play that was
not dirty, and he winds up with a sacral contusion,
which means he's got a sore butt tailbone area, gonna
miss the upcoming road trip. But X rays were negative
according to Rich Paul. Oh, by the way, just a
(02:11:31):
quick aside, this shows you the true balance of power
with the Los Angeles Lakers that the update that Anthony
Davis sacra contusion X rays negative comes from Rich Paul,
Anthony Davis's agent, and not the doctor Rich Paul. Sorry,
Dr Rich Paul. But it also is the attempt to
control the narrative, right, because how many poison pens are
gonna be? Like, you know, they offered him the four
(02:11:53):
earlier today and he turned it down. Now was a formality,
but then you have a play like that that reminds
you how fast things can change. Not to mention whether
he wants to go to Chicago or whatever else leaving
to the offseason, but the he's like, hey, you know
what he's and I'm sure people were doing their due diligence,
chronicling the number of games miss due to injury in
the past in New Orleans before he came to l
(02:12:16):
A So yeah, Rich Paul trying to do a little
bit of damage control along there too. See, nothing's broken,
nothing broken, Everything is fine. Sacral where the Lakers doctors like,
I'm his agent. I get in first. Okay, you guys
wait outside. I am the doctor's Jerry McGuire, Jerry, Dr Paul. Yes,
(02:12:39):
Anthony Davis has a sacral contusion coming up tonight. On
sacral contusion. That's exactly what you think it is. From
our guy, Dan Waikey at Dan Wacky Sports on Twitter.
Davis left the Lakers locker room on the back of
a cart, laying on his side. He was able to
(02:12:59):
make it in the back of his car without help,
but he was moving very very slow. Was his showing Hey,
well you can't say you can't left where you can
show it, he said, he was on his side. I
had to ask, look, I as someone who has had
this happen to them in their life. It is so paint.
But Anthony Davis is actually strong. Uh No, but anybody
doesn't matter. Wow. I mean, if you hurt your Coxing,
(02:13:22):
you hurt your Coxing, You're you're comparing, You're comparing the
the global buttle area of people that you can't say
it doesn't sure, I can the global global buttle areas
of the world. But yes, exactly exactly. Oh, I can't
say that, but you can say that, you can say
he just tried to bring it back down to its
(02:13:44):
base global buttle area. I think the Nicks are the
world but GBA globe. When I was a sophomore in
high school, I love how you're comparing your situation and
because anybody that's fallen on their tailbone, it's really really painful.
(02:14:04):
It's it's you can't sit. I went sledding once. I've
been rearended three times. Not when I went sledding, though,
and I decided to go down the hill. Uh, this
is this is on Friday, and this is like before
the different fund you find on Friday and Saunday nights
in high school. This is when you're still going sledding. Hey,
I'm going sledding on this everybody else? No, no, no, no,
(02:14:27):
what are you talking about? So we go sledding because
it was fun and there was a lot of cool
people sledding. I'm not like, it wasn't like me and
a bunch of five year old kids. No, did you
give any hats away school and stop. That is not true. Well,
the thing is, he was already almost done when I
was getting in there, and I go down. It's Tuesday.
(02:14:49):
It's Tuesday. I go down the sled and I get
to a jump and I go up over the jump
in the air and I land right on my butt
and I just fall right off the sled because the
pain is amazing. I fell right on my toxics and
it was it was not six very good. And I
had to walk home like a couple of miles. It
(02:15:11):
was awful. And I get in and I tell my mom.
I go, mom, I really hurt myself. What happened? I
showed just oh my god, it's bruised. I go to
the doctor the next day and they go, well, it's
a slight crack of your tailbone, and so what does
that mean. They said, well, it should heal it by
itself in a couple of weeks. But you're gonna find
sitting very difficult. And for the next ten days I
couldn't sit in class. I had to kneel or stand.
(02:15:36):
So I am kneeling as I'm taking I had to
tell all my teachers listen. I went sledding and I
hurt my tailbone and the doctor said this and I
have to I have to do Then they said, all right,
find no problem. And there's people in class going, why
do you get to nil? Why are you just standing
up like people just want to be upset about things?
And I was like, no, I can't. I told everybody.
It was a little embarrassing, but for like ten days
I couldn't, you know, in every class, and so that
(02:15:57):
he'll got nigger every time you got to stand that.
The the hill was on a even for the pledge
of allegiance, a five degree angle. Yes, I was kneeling
for the pledge in high school. I'm standing up for
the rights of never mind. And it was like an
eighty seven degree angle island right down. It's like a
big ski jump in the Olympics when the guys just
leaping the you know, the agony of defeat. The old
(02:16:21):
I had him beat Oh are you kidding, Tony hawk please?
And it was really painful and landed right and and
I couldn't lay on my back if I tried to
do it. I had to keep my butt up in
the air, and I was sleeping on my stomach. It
was really awkward for like a ten day period. It's
it's a lot of pain, doesn't matter what kind of
shape here. And you fall on that bluoty is Maximus,
(02:16:43):
You fall in your upper bottle area and you heard
that upper bottle area that starts getting bruised pretty fast.
I had a bruise like it was a big eagle,
like I had a big stamp on my back. Yeah,
look at this, I'm ready to party. I gotta stand.
It looked like it was like you thought about yeah, like, hey,
can I get a tattoo that will outline my bruise
so it just looks like it does so it looks cool. No,
(02:17:04):
I mean that's where it was, was right in that area,
went back and spread all the way out. It was awful.
So it looked like the mocking j from Hunger Games.
People were just putting up and holding their fingers up
the three fingers. Yeah, you know, causing problems, but you
know you survived. And for that's what Anthony Davis has
looking forward to him now, sleeping on the stuff. Anybody
(02:17:27):
want to send Anthony Davis some binge watching ideas, He'll
need him for the next week or so. We don't
see him for a while. Send me over that hundred
and forty six million dollar contract. I'll sign it now.
Kyle's licking his chops. Lebron James doing the montgom Reburns,
gonna showcasing Kyle, Who's gonna probably start the next the
(02:17:49):
next few games, exactly what's gonna happen. He's gonna score
like thirty five. He's gonna go for fifty back to
back nights, and then Lebron's gonna trade him, yeah, for Mellow.
They're gonna trade him to Portland and get Mellow back
those two big nights. Why did you trade Kuzma? He
had a good run. Twitter at out about a Fresca.
(02:18:10):
Mike and Swollen on The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmon live from the Geico Studios. Hey, listen,
I got news for you. If the Blazers continue to
fall out of contention, Mellow's gonna wind up being a
Laker at the deadline. It's gonna happens. Speaking into exist,
he at the game winner tonight. He's gonna come really cheap.
(02:18:32):
They're gonna need shooters. He's playing well. Mellow will easily
be a Laker. At the deadline. And now he's got
the most easily shots made in the final five seconds
of a fourth quarter overtime in the last twenty years.
He's easily going to be a laker of the deadline.
They eat offense. He's gonna be cheap. Yeah, Mellow, you're
getting you know, you're getting him. You know, exciting. No,
(02:18:53):
it's absolutely happening, and he's gonna be and you're gonna
be happy because he's gonna be a guy you get
for really cheap. I'm not gonna give up anything for him.
Who he mellow comes to l A. You know what's happening.
That's happening. Oh yeah, yeah, he's always got to stay
healthy and be this guy looking at the game. No, no,
that doesn't matter. He's gotta listen. I gotta finish. I
(02:19:14):
can't finish my career in Portland. He's you know what
he's doing. Brett Farve when when he pushed his way
out of Green Bay and he went to the Jets.
Now in retrospect, you can say, all right, Farve said,
you're not gonna trade me to the team. I want
to go to Minnesota, So I'll go play one year
for the Jets and live in purgatory and then I'll
get to Minnesota. And that's exactly what he did, played
(02:19:34):
one year for the Jets, said I'm thinking about retiring
the Jets. Let him go, and oh no, here I
am with the Minnesota Vikings. Right, this is what I
want to do. That's exactly what Mellows doing. I'll going
to Portland, but I'm not gonna be there very long
because I'm gonna make sure I get traded the deadline
and I go to the Lakers. I gotta prove that
I still had something left in the tank. And now
the Lakers will go play at Syracuse again before the Lakers, trust,
(02:19:55):
are the Lakers playing an exhibition game there? Syracuse pays more? Well,
we're eight and seven. We need to pay more. You're
on more and more. You were waiting for Odell Beckham Jr.
To suit up tonight for your sorry squad. Trust me, Frostburg,
it's happening. You are getting Mellow and his game winner
tonight Portland. Come on, you have the game winner tonight.
You're getting him. He was brilliant Twitter at about a
(02:20:18):
Fresca Mike and swall Undel. My promise, Judge, in ninety.
But first, Ralph Evan has what's trending? All right, Well,
you're talking about that Lakers when they do take out
the New York Knicks one seven Lebron James leading the
way with thirty one points is l A one their
sixth straight game. And you talked about Anthony David's gonna
miss some games with with well basically bruised backside. Uh,
(02:20:41):
it is game number thirty seven. For those of you
who had the Anthony Davis will get injured and miss
time in week thirty or game thirty seven or less
you win? Oh yeah, I forgot about those prop bets.
What do we win? Well, the Lakers are gonna win,
maybe a little bit less, but uh, the Anthony David
uh injury bug is once again bitten him on the
(02:21:04):
back side. UHMA City has won ten of their last twelve.
Chris Paul leading the way with twenty eight points in
a one eleven one oh three overtime win over Brooklyn.
And this is the exchange he had after the game
with NBA TVs. Dennis Scott. Chris had a flashback and
night back to back twenty three points and second he
was feeling good tonight a flashback from like old school
(02:21:27):
Chris Paul and getting to your spot and do whatever
you want in the fourth you know what I'm saying.
That's you know what I mean. It is what it
is good same win, you know what I mean. We
came out, we know we lost one last night and Felli,
we know we needed to get this. I guess at
least they didn't say it was a vintage performance. Yeah, goodness,
gracious uh Portland gets that game winner from Carmelo Anthony
(02:21:49):
season points they beat Toronto one on one. We'll be
back to talk a little bit more sports after this
word from Farmers. Bundle home on auto with Farmers Insurance
and you could save an average of we know what
thing or two about how to save a buck or two?
Call one Farmers to get a quote today. Are Farmers
(02:22:10):
might average in my firms for insurance exchanges and affiliates
brought un avlable in every state. Now, let's send it
back to Jason Smith and Mike Harmon. Thank you, Ralph Irvan.
We are alive from the Geico studios. Where to take
a break from a d for a couple of minutes.
Here the Giants hired there a new head coach today,
and they agreed to bring in Joe Judge, wide receivers
coach for the New England Patriots as their new head coach.
(02:22:34):
At some point, I'd like to think that in the meeting,
when the Giants front office is all going around the
table going Joe Judge, Joe Judge, Joe Judge, there is
at least one person with the guts and the sacral
contusion to throw the emergency break and say, all right,
we sure this is our guy. We want to hire
a guy who is just gonna have his name be
made fun of for the entire time. He's our coach.
(02:22:55):
I'm just saying, you say, no idea stupid. So let
me just throw this out there because you know I'm
gonna listen to that Yeah who Jason Smith on the radio,
and all he's gonna do is run all these Burman
lines about Joe Judge. It did help, thanks Uh Daily
News already after it t J. Judge advocating generally to
hire Jason Garrett as his offensive coordinator. T J. Judge
(02:23:17):
dreading the matchup this week against the Dallas Cowboys, Right
Judge over rule was the New York Daily News already
so the look you want to give that opportunity. You'll
win the back page because they'll have a lot to
do with it. But now you have competing judges, right,
which one will be greater over the course of the
(02:23:37):
next year short term? When we look at the Higher
itself and a guy who trained under Belichick and Nick
Saban for the last decade, so positivity. The one thing
I guess as you're you're looking at the job higher
is well, what's Dave geentleman? And all this? Is he
The reason that you've got Judge is your head coach,
(02:23:58):
and that nobody of the big free agents in the
coaching world, right, former collegiate heroes and and maybe x
NFL coaches that they may not have wanted any part
of what Dave Gettleman was selling as much as they
might have liked Sae Kwon Barkley, the oft injured Evan
Ingram and Daniel Jones as a base for going forward.
(02:24:20):
But you bring in Judge as long as he doesn't
bring the new England or try to institute the same
New England locker room and culture or whatever, because clearly
that hasn't worked for every other coach that's done it.
The only guy you can claim is Bill O'Brien. And
that's all right, we're beating up on the a f
C South some Well, here's here's the thing, the Giants
(02:24:43):
what the reality of the situation is. The Giants job
is a bad job. It's not a good job because
the Giants should be able to have anybody come out
of the woodwork and say this is the job I want.
The Giants are a heritage team in the NFL. The Giants,
the Cowboys, the Stealers. These are the three heritage jobs
that anybody. This is when Jim Harbaugh says, hey to
(02:25:07):
his agent, call the Giants, I want that job. Lincoln
Riley says, you know what, I want that job. The
Giants are one of those teams where everybody drops everything.
And who did they wind up getting as there can
Joe Judge, alright, a guy that people the average NFL
fan has no idea who this guy is, not even
Josh McDaniels, but Joe Judge. Not somebody that can develop
Daniel Jones, which is why they're asking for permission to
(02:25:28):
talk to Jason Garrett. But they should be able to
get any big name. But what happened to the names.
Matt Rule, who was on the Giants radar, thought that
the Panthers were more in line with having a clue
to make because they wanted to try to get money. Well, look,
they wanted money out of but at least he chose
(02:25:51):
that Mike McCarthy interview with the Giants. He chose the
stability of the Dallas Cowboys. The stability of the Dallas
Cowboys stable, Mike McCarthys. The Giants are run horribly. You
haven't a GM that alienates players, that's a lame duck.
You have to make that job appealing that the Giants.
You gotta do a lot of work to make the
Giants job something that nobody wants. Where you're getting the
(02:26:14):
wide receivers coach for the New England Patriots, who oh,
by the way, not bite like the New England Patriots
wide receivers had a great here this year. So the
Giants job is a bad job. The Browns job is
a bad job for different reasons. The Browns have unrealistic
expectations for anybody who comes in the Giants. You're coming
(02:26:34):
into a situation where they've kept a GM that is
gonna be out in a year, where the two players
you're telling us I gotta build around. You don't know
how great se Kwon Barkley is. He was great as
a rookie. He was awful this year. Daniel Jones was
a rookie quarterback with as many touchdowns as he had turnovers.
This is not a we're built to be great. This
is a bad roster with a bad situation with a
(02:26:57):
bad GM that now you're gonna come in here. Why
do you think there's no big names who went for
this job. Mike McCarthy said, take me out of the running.
I want the Dallas Cowboys. That that should tell you
everything you need to know. The Giants is no longer
a good job in the NFL, and that's shocking to
be able to go from Hey, we're looking up at
the Jets. As far as the ability goes, well, you
(02:27:17):
gotta get him in picking the groceries. I mean, how
many times did he keep doing the verbal slap fight
with Odell Backham Jr. Who was off to Cleveland and
then finally got all angry about It's like you engaged.
You could have just said, you know what, he's not
with us anymore, we're done, and you did it a
few times and then you finally got mad. But it
was enough to say, all right, this still bothered you
(02:27:38):
the way you signed him, and then he you eventually
traded him away. You've got a decent rookie receiver and
Darius Layton. They overpaid Sterling Shephard right injuries and he's
not a number one, but they paid him fourteen million
dollars a year to roll up your offensive lines, badge
defense bad. So anybody that's been around the NFL saying
(02:27:59):
all right, I well I probably want to sit in
this round out right, Caroline is an unknown, but you
know it's a business guy. So he had an opportunity
to say, here's my plan. And if you came in
with a pretty good plan, you might have been able
to get his ear. And that's what Matt Rule was
able to do in Cleveland. I don't think the expectations
are there anymore because everybody's now down on Baker Mayfield,
(02:28:19):
even though you still look at it as a star
laden team, but you still have no idea where Jimmy
Haslam's head is gonna be six months after he gives
you the job, So there's no stability. So yeah, they're
the giants, forget it, clap your hands, enjoy the job
you have for this year, and wait to see how
the carousel rolls. Twitter At how about a fresca? Mike
had swollen dumb. The Jason Smith Show with My best
(02:28:41):
friend Mike Harmon coming up next, got the play of
the night and a story that all of us might
need as far as easing the pain when our favorite
team stink. It's next on Fox, Especially next fans Sacral Contusion.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
(02:29:02):
pm Pacific. Why don't we spice it up to nine
whatever Tequila clock Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Carmen Live from the Geico Studios. I've had sex
with him like fifty sixty times on camera. In case
you're just tuning in, here's the situation off camera. No no, no,
only on I gotta get paid, only count on film.
(02:29:22):
I gotta have a record, otherwise it doesn't work. Looks
like Anthony Davis is gonna be okay. A d got
tangled up with Julius Randall on a play in tonight's
thirty point victory over the New York Knicks was not
a dirty play. There was some other plays in the
game that we're dirty, but this was a d going
up kind of backing off of Randall. As Randall goes
(02:29:43):
in for a dunk, he lands awkwardly on his tailbone.
He's down on the court for a few minutes, gets up,
walks off the court under his own power. His agent
Rich Paul says X rays were negative, but he is
very sore. The Lakers call it a sacral contusion. M
or I expected for Davis tomorrow. It's not going to
travel on the Lakers upcoming to game road trip. But
(02:30:06):
it looks like Davis is okay. Again, X rays we're negative.
There is an mr right tomorrow. The Lakers looks like
they have dodged a bullet right now tonight. As far
as Anthony Davis comes, never seen people rally to get
you information on an injury faster because there's any sacral contusion.
But just for the no, no, he's okay, he's okay.
The preliminary is he's fine, He's okay. It's just a
(02:30:28):
Bruce no no. But it's every media member from here
to Kingdom come and everybody associated with the team. No, no, no,
he's okay. Just wait for ten minutes from now. He's
hurt again, fell out of his car and trying to
get home. Contusion Confusion, Sacral contusion. How quickly can we
get a T shirt made? So I'm I'm sure people
(02:30:51):
are on Twitter already with the sack you said. There's
one guy listen to that said, I got the contusion
sacral Twitter hand. Yeah, thanks for listening for every body,
anybody I missed any part of the show. Podcast and
go up about fifteen minutes from now, I iTunes and
Google Play, wherever you get your podcast. Fox Sports Radio
dot com. We appreciate you. Like I said, Sacle Contusion
(02:31:12):
is the name of the band that plays the festival
that goes on the air at three o'clock and this
is the first band that plays. They play a twenty
minute set and they're done, and you can't even buy
their T shirts at the festival tent. Those are the
guys with the sword butts, right, do you gotta Sacle
Contusion T shirt? Now we don't. We don't make any.
And they didn't get to ride in style and someone
had to ride on the gearshift. No, no, we don't
have those. I'm sorry about that. But the play of
(02:31:34):
the night obviously is not going to be Anthony Davis
and his sacral contusion. No, no, no, what was trending
ahead of a d for most of the night. The
game winner by this man, see the drive, the kicks,
Mellow has to get to the paint, pull up craper
bro the way, got it quick, great point, great seconds
left of the Playsers half the lead one a one
nine nine. Blazer's Radio network on the call, Mellow with
(02:31:58):
the game winner for the Blazers. Did they win tonight?
And he's telling everybody I can still play yea man tennis.
Seventeen from the field, five of eight from three point range,
seven boards plus eleven on the night. And I want
to say, he's what only a couple of days away
from his contract being guaranteed for the whole season. Well,
we got to celebrate Dwight Howard hitting that market night
(02:32:21):
and he wants to be in the All Star Game
dunk contest. I want to sign up and if I
can vote on it, and John Morant please join the
phrase cruise so we gotta see Cruso in it. Crusoe,
vote for him to actually get in the game. But yeah,
I mean Dwight Howard celebrated by hitting a three in
the thirty point Burial of Your Knicks. Yeah, Nicks could
(02:32:41):
have used mellow Yo Nicks. Knicks could use everything. There's
nothing that Knicks can't use Nicks except more losses. The
Knicks can use everything and everybody. Why is why Clyde
Frasier coming back into the game. But if you are
a long suffering Knicks fan, there could be help. There
could be help on away because right now, the Ohio
(02:33:02):
State Medical Board, not Ohio State University, but the Ohio
State Medical Board. So the state of Ohio, their medical board,
needs some help because they have gotten twenty eight petitions
for people who want to qualify for medical marijuana treatment,
which is you know, I got a bad back, I
got different conditions, petitions from people who want medical marijuana
(02:33:28):
access to medical marijuana. And the reason they're putting on
their applications is because they are Bengals or Browns fans. Well,
that would numb the pain. It will. It would also
help you if you bruise your coxics. Yeah, yeah, hey listen,
I'm a Browns fan. I bruise my Coxys. Can I
get that medical marijuana car? This Joe Burrow brand awesome. Hey,
(02:33:49):
you can't say he's not he's not a pro football
player yet. That's you just you just met. That's a violation.
You just look. There's people already buying Joe Burrow Bengals
jerseys and they're shipping them. Hey, it's not Burrows, it's Burrow.
There's there's no act he had sending these back. But
think about it. You've been having fun with Judge high headlines,
(02:34:11):
all right, think about the first time Joe Burrow sucks,
it's gonna be Burrow bu double r oh calling him
a Jackie's angles Burrow into a hole at O and eight.
That's a different that's a different spelling. But yeah, same idea.
But this is pretty good news because if this works
in Ohio for Bengals and Browns fans, what can I Hey,
I'm a Knicks, Jets and Mets fan. They're gonna say, hey,
(02:34:33):
come to the pharmacy. I'll leave take whatever you want.
I'll give you five minutes. Whatever you want, man, the
good stuff is all along the top. Just take it. Man.
The guy puts the back in five minutes. Sign up
and walks off. Here's a Jeffrey and and nobody knows anything. Okay,
here's the Jets strand you're Nicks, Jets and Mets. I'm
(02:34:54):
sorry about that. That is one hell of ac combination
right there. So then the the board is meeting on
Ebruary twelve to discuss the patient weight. To follow that story,
I put it into my cafe Fireman and stuff is fire,
Twitter and out about a Fresco Ben Maller's next Fox
