more info, visit Geico dot com. Finishing up a week
(00:45):
in the Mobile studios last night in Detroit, Harmon back
in Los Angeles. Yes, get ready to be reunited on
Monday night for the National Championship Game Alabama and Syracuse.
Good be a huge night for Eric Dungee And oh sorry, Well,
unlike the ticket prices that keep dropping like a well
(01:10):
led Zeppelin about that, I thought you're gonna go lock Stone.
Oh so, I thought that's pretty good. I like that.
I like your in density. That's a beautiful thing that
you're fired up, jacked up already to slide Over Baby
Hours commenced in Detroit. Uh, you know that's one of
(01:33):
my might might be a good karaoke song later. Hey,
I'm glad you said because you know, honestly, that's one
of my new favorite karaoke songs to do is either
I Am the Highway or like a Stone, Like a Stone.
I mean, I like I Am the Highway better as
a song, but like a Stone is more fun to sing.
Oh nice. Yeah, I'm gonna just torment people with Landagan dirges.
Maybe later on tonight, but just drot everybody way down
(01:57):
right there. Okay, they'll sell more alcohol. Look, I'm all
as long as I get it cut. The dirge is
a funeral song. Come on, man, it's Friday night and
slide Look. I am in the slide Over Baby Hour
here in Detroit, three hours into the slide Over, jacked
up about it. There's no question about it. But what
I was gonna say it was even though ticket prices
(02:19):
might be down for the fourth meeting between these teams,
they are thinking like a stone. Yes, prices to sit
outside the Geico studios here in southern California watching us
reunited on Monday night to break it all down and
bring on the luminaries and the victors. I'd like to
send someone into the losing locker room, but they usually
(02:39):
shoo us away. But prices are are soaring through the
roof because they want to see what you look like
after getting beaten up in Detroit all week. Hell, hurt
yourself making that move. It's officially become audio slave night already.
I mean, even though it's not Detroit, it's just one
of those things. And as soon as you hit one
of those notes, let me so. We're gonna preview all
(03:02):
the big NFL games this week and give you all
our picks. Already gave you one of our first locks
of the week yesterday by telling you how badly the
Bears are gonna beat the Philadelphia Eagles. Later on this hour,
we got Dallas in Seattle, will go through Houston and Indianapolis.
We have a crazy ass story out of Tampa Bay
that I just can't believe is true. I just can't
(03:22):
believe what was said by one of their star players
is true. We have that coming up this hour. But first,
Mike Harmon is living groundhog Day. It's just a few
years ago for his Chicago Bulls. Jimmy Butler was a
very talented player who couldn't get along with management. Coaches
didn't run plays that were put in, and they had
(03:43):
to ship him out. And he went to Minnesota and
he was the guy there. He was was awesome, and
again he couldn't get along with anybody in Minnesota. Didn't
like Carl Anthony Towns but I think he said Jason,
didn't like Kevin McHale, didn't like rich Gannon, didn't like
Fran Tarkenton, didn't like Ron Garden hid but didn't like
(04:05):
That's incredible. Didn't like with Kathy Lee Crosby. You know,
I kind of like that's it with the Yogi Kudu,
the guy that would put himself in that box and
stay in the boy. Didn't you always watch to see
what kind of cobra was gonna show up next? I mean,
before it became all about sharks, it was all about
cobra's And then Jimmy Butler couldn't get along with anybody
in Minnesota. So Minnesota sent from the Philadelphia, where Philadelphia said, no, no, no,
(04:29):
this is what's gonna work. He'll be part of our
Big three. And now what did we find out today?
Amid a disappointing season so far for the Philadelphia seventies sixers.
We find out that Jimmy Buckets All Star extraordinaire has
quote aggressively challenged coach Brett Brown on his role in
the offense. There was a disrespectful confrontation that went beyond
(04:56):
normal player coach discourse during a film session the other day.
And now there's controversy. And I can't believe we're saying this.
Jimmy Butler is having problems getting along with his teammates
slash coaches. As I did not see this coming. There's
(05:18):
I don't think there's been a headline in the last
six months that I looked at just kind of chuckled.
Now I sent it along. You know, it's part of
the show prep, and we we're bouncing ideas and stories
that we see past each other. I I chuckled as
I saw this one, going Wow, here we go. That
go back to when he showed up in Philadelphia. We
(05:39):
were already predicting chaos a good month in right, that
he'd be calling for the ouster of of Ben Simmons
before long, just based on what he doesn't do in
an offense, and from all reports, he wants more pick
and roll and is so as opposed to the free
flowing style. You know what he wants structure, and that's
what he's always about, the intensity, and nobody gives it
(06:03):
to him. This is my favorite part of this because
this is something to really have fun with, because this
is like the woman who says, you know, my boyfriend
now cheated on his first girlfriend, but you know he
did love her, and then he dated his most recent girlfriend,
broke up with her because he didn't love her, and
now he's with me, but he loves me and he's
never gonna cheat on me. Yeah, okay, you know what.
(06:25):
That's exactly what Jimmy Butler is. But my favorite part
of this is that not that we didn't see this coming,
because this is this is something of course he can't
get along with anybody, but he is acting like he's
a guy walking around with five NBA titles and like
ten finals appearance. Isn't a guy that's singlehandedly brought teams
to the finals and one championships, not even Lebron James.
(06:47):
You could put Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Steph curry everybody
altogether into one, and they wouldn't do what Jimmy Butler
has done the last three places. He's been no, no, no,
I need this, No, I need this, No, I know
what's best. No, no, I mean he's acting like he's
walking up like I wonder if you ask him, Hey, dude,
you know, rank the players in the NBA how good
they are? Well, I'm the best player number one. Then
(07:09):
you got Lebron, then you got a Manuel Moody, a
then you got some other guy. I mean, really, it's
amazing that he acts like a guy that that is
the most decorated of all the NBA stars. That's a lot,
I'll tell you. That's a lot of guts, Spider, Spider,
you got a lot of guts right there, Spider that
you know what Butler? You know what, though, Jason, they
always say dress for the job you want, not the
(07:29):
job you have, And act for the job you want,
not the one you have, and get yourself disciplined and
ready for that. Jimmy Butler is ready to be the
most decorated player of all time. He's ready to be
the goat. Lebron's talking about himself as the goat which
immediately as I know what's been talked about on the network.
Holy cow, Uh is something that disqualifies you from said
(07:51):
conversation because you can't say it yourself. But Jimmy Butler
is not saying that, but he's acting that way. And
to that, I got to appreciate his moxie, although I
wouldn't bring him onto my team because I know he's untradable.
Now now you can't. Now he's untradable, you can't. I mean,
this guy's looking on the shop three places forgetting Yeah,
I was looking on the NBA shop to see if
(08:12):
there were Sixers jerseys on sale yet, not that he's leaving,
but just that it's gonna be hard to get fans
to buy in. I mean, just the the guts, and
the and the and the marbles on him to be
able to act this way, knowing full well, Hey, if
things don't go well here in Philadelphia, this could really
screw my career. You know what, No, I don't care.
(08:33):
I'm gonna take on Brett Brown because I disagree with
how he's moving things along in the offense. And I
know I'm trying to fit in along amongst guys who
are already fighting with each other because you know, Joel
and Beat is upset that Ben Simmons is going for
rebounds and poking him in the eye. And Ben Simmons
can't hit a jump Right now, I'm gonna make things
even worse by jumping it because I just don't care.
I mean, that's really Jimmy, but he just doesn't care.
(08:55):
And this is somebody who needs people around him saying, hey, Jimmy, dude,
let me. You gotta have it. We have the meeting
right now, okay, where you have to listen to me,
because this is where you're at. This is it, dude.
No one is going to want you after this. No,
I don't care what kind of talent level you have.
You want to go play in Phoenix for the rest
of your career, because that's what's gonna happen. You want
(09:15):
you want to go play. You want to go play
for the n Oh wait, wait back and wait, wait,
hang on a second. You want to go play for
the Atlanta Hawk. That's what's gonna happen to you. That's
the only teams that are gonna take you. Now, forget
about somewhere where you're part of the solution. You're gonna
be hey with the bottom feeders where they really just
don't care because you're showing up, scoring points and at
least we're selling tickets, winning a couple of games. We're
a little bit exciting because we have an all star
(09:36):
on our team. Well, maybe this is just a long
play to get into a new movie with Walburg his buddy,
so they can start working on that Transformer film, or
or Daddy's Home three years some crap. But think he
was ok He was okay in office party Christmas. I mean,
he was there, and that's what I mean. I'm not
the biggest t J. Miller fan. It was a lot
(09:57):
of him, you know, but I can honestly I could
have used more Jimmy Butler, less t J. Miller. I
could a little bit more. Well, there you have it.
I mean, but you've already had so many other issues
with Marquelle Folts. Obviously we've watched how the first couple
of years of his career have gone. You've got and
beat and Simmons with a little bit of beef. That
was the Simmons trying to get in on his triple
(10:19):
double and elbowing and beating the head. Remember he already
had issues, right, he already got clocked once, so you
have that as part of the history. So you already
had a a tenuous hold on the trio that you
you had, and then you bring in Jimmy Butler, who's
got this extensive history. It's one of those things that
it eventually catches up to you. We We've done a
lot of talking about Antonio Brown and how it's one
(10:42):
off here and then there's uh confrontation with police and
then all these other things, and then it finally comes
to a head this year with all of the different issues,
especially the last week with Jimmy Butler. It's now the here,
here's our pattern, just waiting for it to rear. It's
again eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox Twitter at
(11:03):
how About a Fresco, Mike has Swollen Dome The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend in Mike car But
I'll tell you've got a lot of guts, Jimmy, You've
got a lot of guts. Also having a lot of guts.
Houston Rockets GM Darryl Moria cat last night's performance by
James Harden his fifth straight forty point game, a triple double.
We told you how he won his second straight m
(11:25):
v P last night. The level he is playing at
is very Michael Jordan's esque from the regular season in
the nineties. That's really what he's doing. Darryl Morey decided,
you know what, I need to go one step further
in my praise for the Beard here. He was earlier
today on Fox Sports Radio Rich Eyes and show. Yeah,
he's just extremely unique. If you factor in just the
(11:45):
overall offensive package. You know, if you look at the
volume of offense, you know, the shots that he takes
for a team at an efficient level, I think that's
the key. So those two things plus then you add
in the fact that his passing is that at a
level that's in the top ten to twenty in NBA history,
(12:05):
and the offense that's produced through that is super efficient.
So if you just feelok at overall points produced by
player either to as efficient offense or as passes that
lead to efficient offense, and you just look at it
through that Lambs, he's you could say he's number one,
you could say he's possibly the best offensive star ever
(12:26):
in the NBA. Now, before I go crazy, it's all listen.
He's James Harden's g n that's his guy. It's been
a tough season. James Harden has become a superstar in Houston.
I get it. He's a little bit of moment and
have some fun with it. Whoa, whoa, whoa. That's not
the slide Over Baby Hour for you yet, it's slide No, No,
(12:49):
it's for me, not you. You can't have it by yourself.
Okay again, only I can say stuff like that in
the slide Over Baby Hour because I'm already You're not
in yet. I get what he said. I understand. I
get it. He looked. Everybody gets the point where their
prisoner at the moment it happens. But this season that
(13:13):
James Harden is having so far, and this is in
the middle of his fifth straight forty point game. If
he maintains this pace, which he's not going to be
able to, but he's still gonna be over a thirty
point of game score. And I said, he's still gonna
be the m v P. This only ranks as the
eighteen best offensive season all time. I mean, really, Daryl
Morey has got to go look and go. Oh you know, boy.
(13:35):
Will Chamberlain had four straight seasons of averaging over forty
three points. Boy, he had a season where he averaged
fifty points in a game. Boy, you know that Will
Chamberlain guys pretty good. He was doing stuff off the court.
Should be tired. The guy should have had no legs.
It was one game and three women every night for
Will Chamberlain, that's difficult. The one thing for him is that, look,
(13:57):
there was no late night cable. There was less entertainment land,
so there's let's less stuff to do. You had to
make your own. Yeah, yeah you can. You know, you
can fit in the extracurricular activities a little bit easier.
Like you know, listen, what do I want to go
out tonight? Or do I want to go watch bird Box?
You know, what do I want to do? So there's
that well, Blindfolds may have been involved. I uh no,
I think you want to know you're with Wilt. I
think you want to know. I think you want to know. Wait,
(14:19):
like this guy feels like he's like five nine. Wait
a minute, what Wilt does? Like? Okay, there's about seven football.
But Michael Jordan averaged over thirty points a game six
times in his NBA career. There's many players that have
had better offensive seasons and been better offensive players. Kobe
Bryant's a better offensive player. He's proven over the course
of his career. James Harden is twenty nine years old,
(14:41):
and he is fantastic, and he is a top five
NBA player year and a year out. Certain years he's higher,
because that's just how it goes. You're the top certain years.
Steph Curry is up higher than he's ranked certain years.
Kevin Durant is better than Lebron. James Lebron is still
the best overall. But that's who James Harden is, and
you know, you want to say he's the possibly the
best offensive star ever. I mean, you gotta realize there's
(15:03):
other guys that have come before James Harden that are
not on your team, that have put up pretty good
numbers other than Hey, I'm in the middle of a
five game stretch where he scored forty points just at
a big three pointer because p J. Tucker cleared house
and knocked everybody out of the way so Harden could
hit his shot. I mean, you got to realize that
that you're going a little bit overboard. Well, and the
fact that you've got the designated Veteran player extension didn't
(15:25):
avoid the fourth year of his deal, so he's a
free agent after the year, so you gotta kiss his ass,
know when you're going at the negotiating table while you're
at it, So why not you know, Hey, you got
keys to the city. You're the king. Yeah, you're the
best ever. And we can do that. And when we
play these games and you go, oh, you know, different
(15:46):
eras and this is this, and we could go number
of possessions per minute and everything else that's different than
it was, the three point shot, all those This is
just a guy trying to you know, just give him
a nice pat on the back and say you're having
a hell of a run. And when asked about it, sure,
and we've been impressed. Right, We've talked about James Harden
(16:07):
a lot. Look, he's got more assist per game, rebounds
are up statistically, he's a different guy than he was
a couple of years ago. And that's fantastic. And like
I said last night, it's a really January. Let me
see you and see how those legs and jump shot
are doing in May. Twitter at how about a fresca?
Mike has swollen down The Jason Smith Show with my
(16:27):
best friend Mike Harmon, Jason to the stage, Jason to
the stage. Coming up next, we'll get our picks underway
for wild Card weekend in the NFL, and yes, I
will pick a winner between the Seahawks and the Cowboys,
despite the fact they both stink. I will tell you
one team that's gonna make enough big plays to win
(16:48):
this game. Fast is coming up next to Carl ending
on a roof to a car landing in the pool.
We've covered it. Talk to farmers, we know a thing
or two because we've seen a thing or two. We
are farmers underwritten my Farmer's truck fire insurance exchanges that
(17:12):
affiliates products unavailable in every state. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. From a
hotter balloon landing on a car to a load of
concrete falling on one, we've covered it. Talk to farmers,
we know a thing or two because we've seen a
thing or two. We are farmers underwritten my farmers truck
(17:37):
fire insurance exchanges that affiliates products unavailable in every state. Really,
we didn't get like a Stone again. I'm gonna telling
me here, here this note, hot shot. Hit that high
note towards the end a big screen. I can hit
the note in like a stone because it's kind of guttural.
No no, it's a low high note note. I mean
there's certain notes I can't hit. I understand that. As
(17:58):
listen my vocal ranges like Gaxel Rose. I can sing
the loads songs. I can sing the high songs. All
notes he hits none of them. I may be the
best vocalist of sports talk radio host ever. That's just Acidine.
You know, you hit as many notes that you hit
as many notes as drk Navitsky hit shots tonight, Oh
(18:21):
sixteen minutes, oh for ten and what's probably his final
trip to t D Garden. You know, here's the thing,
and you know what. I'm in the big chair too. No, no, no,
I am the notes pretty good. A few minutes ago
on Like a Stone, I I got people on Twitter
telling me how great it was. I got members of
Sound Garden telling me how good it was. Really. Oh yeah,
(18:42):
I got Kim Fail tell yeah. I get people from
Seattle love me now they love me, love me, love me,
give him a few more bars there and hot shot
the Jets within the super Ball twine there? How good
(19:12):
is that right there? That's sure? It's almost in tears.
I don't know if he's laughing or crying. Do you
hear that voice in karaoke? You're like, who is that guy?
I gotta get next to him? That that was really
that was really uncalled for. You know what I'm getting
ready for in five minutes? Though? What's that show? Nicks
at Lakers? Oh? Here we go here, I got thunder Blazers,
(19:37):
got a couple of movies going on. Yeah, life's good.
Gonna find a way for the Knicks to lose by
twenty to a team without Lebron and Kyle Kuzma. Oh
how will that happen? I'll have it all for you
live here in the Guy Goes Studio. It's like when
you see one of those movies where they tell you
the end at the beginning, and the movie or the
TV show was about how you got to that point,
like the out of order storytelling, like Aric Sorkin does
(19:59):
that with west Wing all the time, Like you know
how it ends, but the story how it gets there
is really the most interesting part. That's kind of the
Knicks are somehow gonna lose by twenty to a team
without Lebron and Kyle Kuzma and now, but how they
get there that's going to be the story. Well, it's
like we all knew the origin story of Darth Vader.
Well not, you didn't know it until he actually said
he was Luke's dad. Sorry, spoiler, you didn't know that.
(20:21):
You knew that. You knew that because you live next
door to all the direction. No, it was in German.
Vader means father. Didn't you watch Pitch Perfect? She says that,
I mean you know that. Well, we knew that. But
we're more worldly in some ways than we some you know,
forty years ago at this point. Time. Now to take
a look at some of the big action this week
and in the National Football League. And first I want
(20:43):
to say this first game we're gonna get to We're
gonna go Seattle and Dallas. I want to say this
about Dak Prescott because last night we talked that's got
a lot of attention on social media today. This is
not a high pressure game for Dak Prescott. You are
a lunatic if you think so. Jerry Jones has already
said we're extending Doc. What's happening. He's gonna give him
(21:07):
dred million dollars, almost all of it guaranteed. Why Because
Jerry Jones loves nothing more than to show you how
right he is. And he's right in his mind. If
I extend Dak Prescott and give him a hundred and
twenty five million dollars, look at the quarterback that we
drafted to come in and take over for Tony, and
look how good he is. I mean, whether you think
he's that good is irrelevant. Because Jerry Jones thinks he's
(21:30):
that good. He could throw five picks tomorrow against Seattle
and it would be well, Uh, Dak had a tough day,
but uh, well we had a great season, won the
NFC East, and uh you know this is second time
he's done it, and uh we're just nothing but uh
high flying from here on out. Gonna get him some
help in the off season and Dak, sorry, it doesn't matter.
Do like I said, no touchdowns, five picks. Doc is
(21:52):
gonna get more money than Kirk Cousins guaranteed because Jerry
Jones wants it to happen. So really, it's not a
high prey. Sure game for Dak Pressy, but it's not
even just Jerry Jones. It's again, here's the photo array
of all the guys that are gonna be available to you.
Who the hell do you want more at this stage
of his career? What are you gonna go and say,
(22:14):
all right, I'm gonna roll the dice that I can
be the guy to bring Ryan Tannehill and along or
that Joe Flacco post Baltimore. There's something left there. No,
you're not. It's it's Dak Prescott. And we talk about loyalty,
and there's very few franchises that have stability sometimes when
we're calling for it to not be. But Dallas is
(22:36):
one of those places. Jason Garrett and most other NFL
cities would have been on his third job since by now.
But he he gets the reprieve, and he gets the
pad on the back from Jerry Jones, and lo and
behold a trade gives him Amari Cooper and here we
are playoff bound Seattle and Dallas. My slogan personally for
(22:56):
this game is one of them will lose because they
still both stink. Here's the thing, having to choose between
Seattle and Dallas. I have more confidence that Russell Wilson
is gonna make plays at the end and the Seahawks
defense are going to make plays at the end than
I do Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. I don't see
(23:17):
Dallas being able to make the clutch plays in the
final few minutes because this is gonna be one of
those ugly games. That's gonna be a typical Seahawks game.
Six three, seven, six, ten, nine, thirteen six, that's how
it's gonna be. It's gonna be close all the way through.
It's gonna come down to the final six minutes of
the fourth quarter. And I look at the team that
(23:38):
has had players go through it before, and that's the Seahawks.
That's Russell Wilson. It's not the Dallas Cowboys. Russell Wilson
and the Seahawks escape, and I can tell Dallas fans
how right I was. And I'll just take crap from
Seahawks fans for another week. You just have friends with
them by singing your dead, your sound guard and stuff,
and then immediately gonna I still hate your team. They're
(24:00):
gonna win. I'm on the same side of this game
looking for Russell Wilson with a healthier, healthy er Doug Baldwin,
Tyler Lockett. But you know, I've been enamored with the
ground game and what that offensive line has been able
to do with Chris Carson all season long, so looking
for that to be what puts it over the Defensively,
(24:22):
they came along just fine after a lot of questions
the first half of the season for Dallas, I just
think you you shut down. I'm alri who's the other
guy making plays in the passing game? It's all Ezekiel
Elliott's legs that are are what gets you there. So
Dak Prescott will get his giant novelty check, but it
ain't coming after a win. So there you go, Seahawks
(24:44):
and the Cowboys. Both of us like the Seahawks to
keep moving. What about the other game on Saturday. I mean,
I'm gonna just gonna do that all night. I think
you're gonna be just being yourself horse long before there's
a real slide over baby hour. No, maybe your voice
will drop a couple octaves and you'll, you know, get
all sultry, like like I'm hitting puberty. Just when you
(25:08):
scream yourself or drink yourself to the point where your
your voice just drops. Wow you can do that? Oh yeah,
yeah that or run on a really low amount of sleep.
See I'm well rested today, so my voice is a
little bit higher him, Mike harmon Um, if you want
(25:29):
to join me after, I'm gonna be having a lot
of sugar. I'm not the pimple faced team. But that's okay,
that's all good. We like Seattle over Dallas. What about
the other big games this weekend? Find out in a minute.
But first we got deb Carson with what's trending? D
c Hey, what you guys mentioned the game just about
to get underweight. It's Staples Center, no Lebron James, no
(25:50):
Kyle Kuzma. Kuzma with the sore back. Lebron is going
to be out another week with the groin injury Lakers,
and Nick's about to tip off. Nick's trying to end
that eight game skid They've all the lost nine of
their last ten. Celtics were without Kyrie Irving, still dealing
with the eye injury. Celtics beat the Mavericks a one
fourteen ninety three t wolves three win over the Magic
(26:11):
Carl Anthony Towns with twenty nine points fifteen rebounds Victor
Oladipo with thirty six points as the Pacers took down
the Bulls in Chicago in overtime one nineteen one sixteen.
Pacers have won six in a row. Cleveland is now
lost eight straight. Jazz beat the Cavaliers one seventeen, and
the Heats beat the Wizards one fifteen one oh nine.
(26:33):
College football news. Former NFL Pro Bowl running back to
Marco Murray has been hired by the University of Arizona
head coach Kevin Sumlin as the Wildcats running backs coach,
and West Virginia has agreed to a deal in principle
to hire Troyals troys Neil Brown to be the Mountaineers
new head coach on a six year deal. Rams defensive
star Aaron Donald was the only unanimous choice for the Apes.
(26:55):
NFL All Pro tem Patrick Mahomes was one of four
Chiefs named the All Pro team, and Mahomes received forty
five of fifty votes. The Bears also had four players
chosen for the team. We'll be back with the Jason

(28:23):
and then you go straight into Bears Eagles. I mean
this is like you should have a big, some kind
of purple and orange and blue party at your house.
I might. There's also I found a nice watering hole
that's a bear's bar in uh nearby Hermosa Beach. On
their little mantle, they've they've got a bear's luchador mask.
(28:43):
If things go right, I'm gonna see if I can't
wear that for the second half. Oh, you're gonna be
where I could just see you completely inebriated out of
your mind with it on, running up and down the bar,
kicking people's drinks over, and the part under going, hey,
come on, come on, hey, come on, get down for
the cliff down from he's a shirt off the guys
and he's no shirt and he's got purple shorts on.
(29:05):
What what is that all about? A man? Let's go alright,
So you know two of our picks for this weekend
in the NFL. We both told you about the Bears
over the Eagles. We both like the Seahawks over the
Cowboys Houston and Indianapolis. I can't go away from my Texas.
I can't do it. I picked them to go to
(29:27):
the super Bowl preseason, and Fox Sports Radio just put
up everybody's picks again who we like for the super Bowl?
And oh, by the way, I don't know how many
people have integral picks, and by that, I mean their
picks from the preseason are still alive. But I'm still
(29:48):
it's sal Seattle all night. My preseason pick and your
preseason pick both still alive. I went Texans rams preseason.
They're both in the playoffs, so I gotta stick with
that pick. I can't. I'm not going to ditch my
Texans when they need me the most, because your Texans
they need me the most, because they need you this week,
for sure, they because I am sticking with them. However, however,
(30:11):
I can see the loss coming for the Texans down
the tunnel like it's a huge Like it's the Hogwarts
train arriving at King's cross platform nine and three quarters.
Let's go, because I can see Houston struggling on offense,
not being able to run the football. The crowd gets
(30:32):
in it early and they start booing, which is exactly
what's happened, and Houston Texans playoff games the past few years.
They turn the ball over a couple of times, and
Andrew Luck, instead of getting down thirty one three, actually
goes up by two touchdowns early. And it's a shocker
that it's happening, and it's gonna happen fast, and Houston's
gonna have to fight back, and Andrew Luck's gonna win.
(30:54):
And I get the Andrew Luck Twitter police are gonna say,
we told you Luck. Look, look, look, look, look, look,
look block Luck. Look. That's what I'm because I could
see that happening. What comforts me in my time of
need is that JJ watch at Avian clown. He can
own this game. Their defensive line can own this game
and make life miserable and turn Andrew Luck into the
guy who will throw two touchdowns and throw for three
(31:16):
seventy five but also give you three interceptions. That's what
I'm thinking. That's how the Texans win this game. Andrew
Luck has a bit. He throws for two and throws
for almost four hundred, but he gives you three big
turnovers and that's enough for the Texans to win. Todd
for eleventh in the league with forty three sacks, this
year fifteen interceptions. Now it becomes the question, can you
(31:39):
you go through and rattle Andrew Luck on the day
and we know they've only given up eighteen on the year,
can you get significant pressure? He's owned them in the
two meetings this year. T Y Hilton should be healthy
enough to go. You got Eric Ebron getting it done,
and Marlon Max done a better job these last couple
of weeks. I hate to jump on board with the
(32:00):
media honks and agree with Jason Cole because with his
band's takes, I'll see him in hell. Uh. The fact
of the matter is, I gotta stay with the hot hand.
I gotta stay where we're at, looking at those Indianapolis
Colts to go in and take this game out right,
leaving you and you're Houston Texans in the cold. I mean,
(32:21):
I have a bad feeling about this game. I have
a bad feeling about blah blah blah blay. Hey, I'm
never gonna ditch my team, not my guys, not my Texans,
because I've shepherded them through this regular season. Right. We
interviewed Lamar Miller. We you know we got we kept
on keeping on with him. We got them through. Oh
and three. I got them back in, I nursed them
through and got them to the playoffs, winning the South.
(32:45):
I got him a home game. I gotta stick with
him here. Here, here's the thing. How much is DeShawn
Watson running for his life? Right? Sixty two sacks on
the air? Is if if my math was correct? So,
I mean you're you're talking about a guy under duress, uh,
with great regularity. So he and and DeAndre Hopkins. Yeah,
they'll they'll find some magic along the way. Where are
(33:07):
those secondary receivers stepping up to help? I think Indies
defense something I did not think we'd be saying here
As we get to play off time, it gives me
an opportunity to talk about Mr Walker and his role
uh in that Colts defense. Go Cats. But the the
fact is you just got a team that's more well
rounded playing better football at this point. And yes, the
neck beard uh and the muskrat oil or whatever? Move on? Uh?
(33:31):
Whoa we every you know tight shirt? Every time we
say the word muskrat. You don't have to fire off
a muskrat. How are you catching them? He's trying to
get me enough to serve dinner nationwide? Did I not
tell you last night. How to catch muskrats. You put
a little cage in the water where they get into
the water because they live near the head. Ain't going
to be effective, you know. But that's how you catch
(33:54):
a muskrat. That's when when I said way used to
catch muskrat, it would say bullet to the head. I mean,
it was says to catch a muskrat. That's not a song,
although that would be pretty funny. Do you kill a muskrat? Twitter?
Powder Fresca, Mike gets swollen muskrat. Coming up next, a
story out of the NFL today from one of the

in January. Somehow the Knicks lead the Lakers by ten.
How about that midway through the first quarter, stop the fight,
Kevin Knox has six hardaways? Got six? I mean, I
know the Lakers are playing without Lebron, without Kyle Kuzma,
without Magic, without Kareem without Worthy, but the Knicks up
(35:24):
by ten. This may be as good as it gets
for the Knicks all season long. Having a ten point
lead in the first quarter the beginning of January. Well
on the road too. I mean, come on, it's later.
Arriving crowd is gonna come in and say, what is this? Miss?
I have two TVs in front of me right now.

got more from the NFL coming up in a few minutes.
We have we got We'll pick the Chargers game this
weekend against the Baltimore Ravens that justin Frostburg landed in

(36:28):
of the Chargers game against the Ravens. We have big
all pro news coming your way. We're gonna tell you
exactly who the m v P of the NFL is,
but about what no I went. Well, I may be
wrong into who wins it, but I know who the
m v P is. Okay, in your heart, that's the way.
(36:49):
It's not lying if you believe it's true. Look, I
know who the m v P is. I just don't
know that he's going to get the votes because people
are gonna look for ways to not vote for him.
But you don't have the votes. Earlier today, Tampa Bay
buccaneer cornerback Brent Crimes did a podcast with his wife
(37:10):
and it started to make headlines and go viral in
the last few hours because a couple of things that
came out of this podcast was number one. He was
very upset week three when Tampa Bay asked him to
cover Antonio Brown in the game. He said that listen, quarter,
He's only getting paid seven million dollars a year. And
he actually said, guys that covered the best receivers in
the NFL are either the guys getting paid fifteen million
(37:33):
a year or the rookies trying to make a name
for themselves. How dare they ask a guy making seven
million to cover Antonio Brown? Right, but that's pretty good.
I like that. He's kind of a lunatic. And you know,
Brent Grimes's wife has made her share of headlines over
the course of the past few years. But this is
you know, that was kind of interesting how he said,
I can't believe they disrespected me by asking me to
(37:55):
cover an Tonio Brown. I can't cover the guy, but this,
to me, I can't believe is true. He got benched
in the game a few weeks ago, and he says
the reason why he got benched is because he was
on his phone at halftime. And before you think, well,
what's he doing on his phone apparently, Brent Grimes says, well,
everybody does that. I don't even know if people know this.
(38:16):
You got benched at halftime? Why did you get benched
at halftime? I still don't know what they said. I
was on my phone at halftime, and which was true,
because I'm on my phone every game in my career
at halftime, every single game. And how many other players
in the locker room on their phone at halftime? I
would say fifties sixties. No, probably, like in the locker
(38:37):
room is like on listen to their phone. They might
look at something on the phone like it's it's two
thousand and eight nineteen. So there we go. All right,
that's ridiculous. So that was Brent Grimes saying that nearly
all the players in the NFL are on their phone
(39:00):
is at halftime. It's now. I don't want to say
that he's lying, because I'm sure lots of players were.
And maybe this is why Dirck Cutter got fired in
Tampa Bay because players are on their phone and he
set them the second half schemes on their cell phones.
That'd help. Everybody got their phone. Listen while you text
(39:20):
your buddies, I'm gonna send you the updated schemes, all right,
So here they go, said, let me know when you've
got them. Blink bling blink, blink, blink blink. I just
can't change their number. I mean, I can't believe that's true.
I I really I I can't believe. I can't believe
in New England of the player to get on their
phones at halftime right away. No that I like it
in theory, that it's a bunch of disinterested guys forget
(39:43):
about halftime adjustments. Really blows that theory now, now, doesn't it.
What are you doing playing a game? What? What's that
little one where your cats pause and you're trying to
catch the fish? We can go four guys once. We're
having a nice game over here. Come on, man, I'll listen.
Fort and I. They paused the game for me, but
it's halfed on. I told him I played for ten minutes, right,
(40:04):
and then we get back out for the second half. Hey,
we don't uh, we don't have the kickoff right in
the second half, right, we got the ball. It's killing
me in here. I can't move my guy. Is anybody
getting the bad choice stick back in the day? Anybody
have the password for WiFi, WiFi here in the locker room?
What is it? What is anybody got? Yeah? I love
both parts of this story, right. The first half, Yeah,
(40:24):
he was coming off an injury. You're paid to go
play a guy. Forget about zone, go go man up.
The second half is just absolutely absurd. I would wait,
can't wait to hear what our NFL brethren that are
around the Fox Sports Radio studios have to say about it.
All that, I could just see Belichick. Al Right, guys,
get on your phone. I'll give you a couple of
(40:44):
minutes and then we're gonna get around. That's all good, Twitter,
and how about a Fresca Mike and Swollen Dome more
on this. We'll talk Chargers, Ravens and all pro next.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Easter seven

(41:07):
for the Knicks lead I hate that song. The Knicks
lead the Lakers by eleven. This could be as good
as it gets for the Knicks. And look at you.
I'm behind you, buddy, I'm behind this is weird. I'm
(41:28):
behind you on my TV. Well, that's fine because it
was the other the last night you were ahead of
me on the Houston game, so you were calling out
shots I hadn't seen, so that was kind of fun.
Oh so I completely ruined that game for hey, do
you know what tonight though, they just did a shot
of well yeager somewhere. But the Lebron James is in
(41:50):
the house for this one. He so he's better than
Gobe Bryant at least at that shows up and puts
on a suit when he's not playing. That's you know,
suit wine whatever it is. And I had I had
Lou Williams all the time, but I didn't know he's
get to see Kobe in in a suit. Uh. The
Texas Trucker is in on Twitter for that last story
we did on Brett Grimes. We'll get to that later
(42:12):
in the show. Uh, don't dog on him. I'm on
my phone at halftime every game I watch. I wonder
if he'll now join me on Words with Friends hashtag
no wonder the bucks suck? How many turns you think
you could get in at halftime? If you're playing Words
with Friends, you're an NFL player and you're on your
phone at halftime, which is what Brent Grimes said in
a podcast today that almost every NFL player is on
(42:34):
his phone at halftime of the game. How many turns
could you get in? Could you play a whole game? Yeah,
you can probably get in. That's too much. A whole
game is a lot work with speed and efficiency. And
they're finally two and athletes. The computer only has three
tiles left. Oh my god, I'm gonna lose this game.
The answer is pez you know, I what's made a word?
(42:59):
Words with Friends was worth a hundred and seventy eight points. Yeah,
did you get a trophy? I saved that. I took
a picture of it and saved it. Really but you know,
when you think about accomplishments in my life, I'm most
proud of you know, that was a big one. Your
friendship with Beano Cook has to be Metal States French
who with Beano Cook is on there? I'm your best
friend and I'm kind of a big deal. You know,
(43:19):
you're a You're on the list somewhere, You're you're getting there.
But super Mario brodom ware. That was that was really
my top was I was a Donkey Kong guy. I
may I may have peaked saving the princess. I still remember,
I still vividly remember the moment I did it through
the through the joystick up in the air and yelled
like I was Lebron doing the powder. I did it.
(43:39):
I did it you Pike the twelve No, no, no,
this is like, come on, this is like that was
college years, in between drunken fits and giving people your
hat because it is the slide over baby hour. That
was the two out there. Give it the kid. I
saved the princess and gave away a hat. Big Friday night.
(44:01):
That's a that's a big day for me in college. Uh, Twitter,
I have about a Fresco might get swollen down the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen. We
are live from the Geico Studios where fifteen minutes can
save you fifteen percent of more in car in shirts.
For more information, visit geico dot com. Today we saw
the Associated Press NFL All Pro Team. The announced this
(44:24):
is the big one, this is first team All Pro,
best in your position. And let me say this, for
the first time in seven years, the Jets had a
player on the old Pro Jet Uh, you know, I
was shocking. But hey, Roberts deserved it. You know, he
was the best kick returner in the NFL. And yeah,
we should have got Jason Myers too. You got you got,
(44:44):
you got one. But that's okay, we got Look, you
got one. Casual teams is a third of the game,
they tell you. That's right, that's look, I'm I'm happy.
You know, we're on our way back up. We got
an All Pro guy for the first time in seven years.
That's part of what you sell the incoming coach. Sure, hey,
you're special teams. You don't have to worry about that.
We got All pros and that sounds great. We got Robbi. Yeah,
(45:05):
but he's a free agent and we kind of got
him on the cheap, so we got to really pay
him if we want him to. Oh okay, uh sure,
all right, that's what we'll do. But meanwhile, the rest
of the All Pro team is announced. The Chiefs put
four players on, including Patrick Mahomes. Aaron Donald of the Rams,
the only unanimous choice in balloting by a nationwide panel
(45:27):
of fifty media members who regularly covered the league. Aaron
Donald talked about how surreal it was. It's a blessing.
But Mahomes wins the number one spot, drawing forty five
votes at quarterbacks, so he's not unanimous. But here's the thing.
Patrick Mahomes is the m v P of the NFL
(45:48):
this year and it's not even close. Now Willie win it?
What we've seen the past few weeks is and this
is this is part of There's not many things I
can say. You can blame the media for where you are, correct,
like Kawai Leonard last night saying, Oh, the bad reception
I got in San Antonio because of the media. Dude,
the media didn't report, doesn't anything about what happen. You
(46:08):
wouldn't talk to anybody. This is on you. But I
understand the whole. Hey, even when it's not my fault,
I blame the media because that's where we are now.
Everything is the media's fault. But this is where Patrick
Mahomes fifty touchdowns, five thousand yards passing. This guy's the
m v P. But Patrick Mahomes was boring to talk
(46:31):
about after the first six or seven weeks. Why because
the guys like Albert Poolholts in his heyday, he rakes
and what can we say about him, Well, not much.
We can break down his play on the field, but
after six or seven weeks of wow, Mahomes is really good.
What do you make of mahomes is three yard, three
touchdown game this Sunday. What do you make of this
run he had when he was out on the run,
out of his pocket, throwing down field of Tyreek Hill.
(46:54):
You get flipping it behind his back, he's under armed. Yeah,
you get to the point. Look, magic Johnson and just
a normal Patrick Mahomes. Great play. But this is where
the media, and these are daytime television shows, either show
when you watch at night, whether it's Sports Center, Fox
Sports One, whatever, it is where they go, you know,
(47:15):
we need something different, and you get some Yahoo want
to show to say, you know, I think Andrew Luck
is actually the m v P of the NFL. Oh
you think Andrew Luck. Let's do it, let's run with it.
And suddenly Andrew Luck is getting run for being the
m v P of the NFL despite the fact my
Homes through for eleven more touchdowns, five more yards and
won more games. This is what happens. And when Drew
(47:36):
Brees having a big oh, you know what, but Drew
Brees is so good and because both Breeze and Luck
enjoy such great reputations, they get over valued for things
like this. They do because Drew Brees is a Hey,
he's had a great career. Look where he is. They
could he could win the Super Bowl again for the
(47:57):
second time. What a way to go out would be
a lifetime achieving ward. Yeah, Drew Brees is the m
v P, or you say for Andrew Luck. Boy Andrew
Luck who always gets the benefit of the doubt because
he was a stud in college and he has a great,
awe shucks personality. Everybody loves Captain Andrew Luck and he's
got that likable persona guy next doors. Everybody loves him.
So let's go overboard and say things about Andrew Luck
(48:19):
and Drew Brees. They're having really good years. Drew Brees
is having a great year. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs
have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. He threw fifty
bleep in touchdowns fifty He's averaging almost nine yards in attempt.
This is a guy who shouldn't even be close. Is
the m v P. But the fact that he wasn't
(48:40):
unanimous at quarterback, that's crazy. When do you see the
m v P votes. I'm waiting to see how this
breaks out with Mahomes and Luck and and Breese and
how people decide, Hey, I'm gonna vote this way and
this way and this way when this should be something
that's not even a debate and it should be unanimous.
But I'm telling you wait and see how it plays out,
because it's not gonna go Mahomes as Andrew Luck will
(49:01):
get his Comeback Player of the Year award to pat
on the back and got that. I'll give you that, yes,
Andrew Luck and Gradua trophy since we like trophies here,
you know you can have one. Go beat the Texans
going around. That's great, go play for the ship. Now
with Drew Brees, we talked about the team's success right
(49:22):
that Patrick Mahomes had over in Kansas City except all
good teams he won against, except that game against Dallas,
which you and I were in the studio watching and
still scratching our heads over most of it. The offense
bogged down a bit, but it wasn't until the final
couple of weeks that people seem to realize and catch
up to the fact, you know, the Saints defense is
(49:42):
pretty good. That wasn't the narrative at all over the
course of the year. Right, So thirty two touchdown five
picks finishes eight yard shy of four thousand because he
doesn't play in the final game of the season. But
the fact that he won all those games. You're looking
at the two losses under his reign, the season opener
when he went for four thirty nine and three and
(50:04):
at forty shootout against Tampa Bay when it was wait
a minute, where's this defense? At the one that I
had talked about before the season, thinking, hey, they're gonna
have a nice run towards the Super Bowl. One of
my original picks still alive. Chargers Saints were my picked.
Uh so after a week one and like, wow, that
(50:26):
defense didn't bother to show up and now did it.
But Drew Brees putting up numbers all the way through.
Was shut out and they win over the Giants. They
went to the run game early and off in there.
Uh shut out against the Carolina Panthers. So yeah, you
got two of those. That's gonna hang on. But he
didn't turn the ball over as often as Mahomes did
in big spots, and like you say, it does cut
(50:50):
to some degree, You've got the Lifetime Achievement Award. Hey,
you're nominated for a Grammy on your thirtieth album. Here
you go, let's get it. Or you know who'sa Luci
has to win a Daytime Emmy here eventually, right, Yeah,
give everyone longevity you go through. So perhaps that's the
key with Drew Brees for winning the m v P.
(51:11):
I think Patrick Mahomes will have plenty of opportunities to
get the individual awards. And he's already got a catchup deal.
What the hell more does he need? Now? Look, you
get catchup and your team is read, I mean, what
else do you need? Well, that's it. I mean he
needs a mustard deal too, because it's red and yellow. Well,
he's just a guy finally finally getting after it. I mean,
it's exciting to watch him play. He's gonna have a
(51:34):
chance here. He's got a week off to watch these
wild card games and curious to see what he does
on this big stage. But again, during the regular season,
in those primetime games, yeah, there were some electric moments,
had a lot of turnovers, and there were some problematic
moments for him as well. And yes, his defense sucked,
So you did take a few more losses, but you know,
(51:55):
we we gotta we gotta count the total package along
the way. Look, if it was if it was close,
I would say, okay, it's but it's it's not close. Look,
mahomes quarterback rating is almost twenty points higher than Andrew
lux and while Drew Brees has a quarterback rating that's
a point higher. Mahomes through eight team more touchdowns than
(52:16):
he did, eight team more touchdowns, and he threw for
a thousand more yards. How is this Drew Brees m
v P here? I I just don't see it. If
it's like, if they don't want to give it, then
then the m v P is like the Oscars where
the last few years the Oscars have turned into when
can we reward someone for the career they've had. Right,
a big director who has had a twenty five year career. Hey,
(52:38):
here's their award for best Right. Here's an actor that's
made a lot of money for Hollywood, that has a
great reputation, So we're gonna give him the Oscar this year.
That's why Bradley Cooper is a shoe in to win
the Oscar. For a star is born. I haven't seen
a star is born. We don't have a desire to
see it, but I'm sure he's gonna have seen the
original and the reiterations in the past and all the
derivations thereof I I I'll go watch The hang Over again,
(53:01):
but I already know he's gonna win because that he's
had a great career. He's made a lot of money
for Hollywood, and he's got a great reputation. So he's
gonna win. That's just how it's gonna That's how it's
gonna go. The giving Bradley Cooper the award is like saying, Okay,
we're gonna give it to Drew Brees because of the
career he's had. He's done so well for the NFL,
He's and a lot of great things. And I'm not
(53:21):
saying that that Drew Brees and Andrew Luck aren't deserving
of the reputations they have. But when you start valuing,
hey boy, I really like this guy, and there's no
reason to not like Patrick Mahomes. The only reason there
is is because, like I said, people just get bored
talking about Mahomes, so you get forced debate on a
lot of shows where it's I think Andrew Luck is
(53:42):
the m v P, and that starts to gain traction,
and you get people who think, well, I think it's
Drew Brees, and that starts to gain traction because people
want to get clicks. They want to make sure that's
that's the way it goes. So I I get that
part of it. And that's the that's the down part
of the media sometimes where they want to play into this,
but really it shouldn't be a debate, but it will
be because of that. But that's the beauty of it. Right.
(54:03):
We're having a great hot takes and sports talk radio
to start the year nineteen, and that's where we go
to the m v P race with with Patrick Mahomes
and and the ridiculous number of touchdown passes that you had.
I mean, you jumped out of the gate when the
in those games against the Chargers and Steelers. At the
end of week two we had ten and we're looking
(54:23):
around going, who the hell? What the We thought there'd
be some excitement and a different offense than what you
had under Alex Smith, but you could have never expected
it to take off as it did. I'm just looking
at it from the all right, where's the where's the
angle on the Drew breeside is that he won all
those big games and all those again accepting that Dallas game,
(54:46):
which is still the curiosity ten. But now Dallas defense,
how much run are they getting in the build up
to this game against Seattle? Right, so you start going
down that road of well, you know, the from one
night the the other side one in the battle of
which team's strengths. But for for Drew Brees, you have
(55:06):
a good running game, right Ingram was suspended for the
first part of the year, Camaro was fantastic, and you
had Michael Thomas and you didn't have a whole lot else.
So I think that's one of the other parts that
goes through in terms of component parts of what he did.
And yes, a thousand yards more and the touchdown differential
is absolutely immense. I'm just looking at it from the
(55:29):
old side media that well, it's not just about stats.
Well look, look I'll go for you from this. Now.
You just talked about Breeze and the defense he has
in New Orleans, which is great. The Chiefs defense is
not as about seventy five more points. You know, what
if if you swap defenses and you gave Drew Brees
Patrick Mahomes defense. What are the Saints eight and eight? Yeah?
(55:52):
But we can do that all day, right, if you
gave Mike Trout more than three guys in the lineup
that can actually hold a bat to the shoulders, all
you put Trout on the Mets and you see, I'm
gonna try to speak that into existence when I'm on
the Mets and you see what happened twitter Out? How
about a fresco? Mike gets swollen down The Jason Smith
Show with my bass friend Mike Harmon shockingly and they
(56:19):
say this because it's a shock. The Knicks still lead
the Lakers by ten in the second quarter. Again, this
moment in time could be as good as it gets
for the Knicks this season. Coming up next, huge news
in college football, The rich get richer, and we take
a look at the National Championship game on Monday night.

got more NFL coming up in a few minutes. We'll
pick Chargers, Ravens, Gold Chargers, but try to take a
(57:27):
look ahead. We got the National Championship game coming up
Monday night and huge college football news today. No one
better to talk to than the publisher of college football
News dot com. Friend of the show, longtime college football
insider Pete feu Tech Pete, Happy New Year, Happy new
to you. Okay, I'm gonna ask you anecdotally here in
(57:49):
terms of where the National Championship of College Football ranks
in your let's say mindset and in the pecking order
of interesting things going on. Where do this, Frank, compared
to the amazing NFL wildcard matchups this weekend? Uh? No,
you're well, let me see you're not. You're not crazy.
(58:11):
It's because it's it's crazy. You got this amazing game
between you know, Alabama and Clemson. It's what everyone wanted
and kinda was waiting for. And yet I do this
for a living for college football. But I'm getting the
sense that nobody cares. Ticket prices certainly reflect that, right everybody,
uh may have gone to a prior iteration of this
(58:33):
dance or spent their money on another game these fan base,
and you're tapped out. I mean, think about what's happened.
I mean, how many college football and playoff games and
Alabama played so far? I mean between the national championships,
the SEC championships for both sides, Uh, you know, a
SEC championship obviously for Clemson. You know, think about if
(58:53):
you're an Alabama fan, you're just gonna have what ten
to fifteen granted disposable income to throw around every single
year to go to these things. And now you've got
to go across the country the Bay Area, which you know, okay,
it's kind of quirky and interesting and I'm sure it's
a destination for some, but you had to go from
not knowing if this is a sure thing to now
(59:14):
having to find that money to go. And worse yet,
the Bay areages doesn't care about college athletics, so it's
a it's a weird time, weird setting. It's gonna be
a great game. I think everyone'll be talking about on Tuesday.
But you you kind of brought this up in the
opener here. I mean, you got Lamar Jackson going at it,
you get Jill Rivers, you know who's going from having
(59:34):
a big season. The Bears are a massive story. The
Eagles and Nick Foles, I mean, the the fascination of
these matchups are just overshadowing which should be you know if,
just by any other time of year, the absolute biggest
thing going in sports. Right now, it's just not, well,
let me throw this edgep because you know, we basically
played the entire season to get to where we thought
(59:55):
we were going to be Week one. That was Alabama
and Clemson. Clemson doesn't really have the star power of
most college I mean, look, time is a great story.
Dablsweeney is a great coach, they have great players. We've
seen the alabam base, yeah yeah, and we've seen Alabama
is the closest thing that we've seen to a dynasty,
and we've seen them for a while. Is this just
(01:00:15):
a flat year? Are we just kind of sick of Alabama?
And Clemson? Is is one of those teams where it's like, Okay,
we've seen them and I kind of know what I'm
getting and it's really not something that exciting. It's hard
to capture the imagination with Lineman. And there's no love
for this Alabama program. There's respect for it, but there
isn't like other than Saban. There's not like a Tom
(01:00:37):
Brady where you know, you have the evil empire and
Brady is just you know, you're the polarizing love them
a still love a watching kind of guy. You know,
people like to watch Alabama, but you know, it's not
like the USC teams of the you know, the Pree thousands,
or the Miami teams in the ninety nineties or it
just it isn't there. And Clemson just doesn't have a
fan base. No, he knows where Clemson is. It's just
(01:00:58):
kind of a school that plays with ball and they're
really good. But your point, part of the other problem
is that the stars are young. I mean, next year,
you know, the storyline is gonna be tanked for tah
who gets the who wants that, you know, the number
one overall draft they can get him. And the next
year after that, it's gonna be tanked for Trevor so
we're seeing probably the two number one overall draft picks
in two thousand one, but they're still young, and they're
(01:01:22):
they're just not quite theiry on a national scale. It's
just for whatever reason, it's just has not grabbed the
imagination like I've seen past UH national championships. Do I
just need more references to Woody Danzler and will all
be happy? Pete few Tech on the Hotline with us
here Fox Boords Radio, The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carmen here on a Friday night previewing the National title game.
(01:01:45):
So to we know, he's got four hundred plus people
showing up in his cheering sections. So those tickets are sold,
not on the secondary market. Pete, what are you expected
in this game? I would be shocked me. It's not
close in that tight. It's these two teams are bought
as dead even as the key gets get There's just
no weakness on either side. Alabama is obviously brilliant, but
(01:02:08):
that secondary a little bit suspect. That defensive front for
Clemson is the absolutely no joke truth. Forget Dexter Lawrence.
They've got more NFL guys who are filling in for him.
That's it's they're on a mission. And they're kind of
on a mission a couple of years ago and actually
won the national title with just sewn at the helm.
They're playing like that right now. I don't think you're
(01:02:29):
gonna see Trevor Lawrence played like a true freshman. Uh, certainly,
Jack Frown was just fine in last year's National title game.
Alabama looked a little shaky against George Obviously in the
SEC Championship, I pick you Alabama to win, but cheapishly,
it's this should be a really really good game, and
I'll be stunned if it's not something amazing going deeper
(01:02:51):
into the fourth quarter. If he one other big story
today that they really dominated the news as we find
out the rich getting rich, or is Justin Fields transferring
to Ohio State. The number one recruit in two thousand
eighteen for many services was the backup to Jake from
He's going to Ohio State. Is this where urban Meyer
starts feeling better? And uh, you know that I'm ready,
(01:03:12):
I'm I'm gonna come back, guys. I'm feeling okay you
or he feels better when Brian Kelly goes off to
the NFL and that Notre Dame job becomes open. Uh,
it's an interesting situation with Justin Field, and it obviously
it's a really big deal to get a guy of
that talent and you know, just goes right in line
with the other great Ohio State quarterbacks. He means, you know,
(01:03:32):
Troy Smith, Terrell Prior, Braxton Miller, JP, Barrett so Cardell
Jones in the mixed Dwayne Haskins. I mean, they've had
so many really really good quarterbacks at at Ohio State,
and Justin Field is right there among the among those guys,
the most talented of the group. Uh, it's going to
be an interesting storyline mainly because we get to see
(01:03:54):
is he going to be eligible right away? And the
argument is going to be that they're they're gonna fight
this one and say he should be eligible right away
at least is you know, the lawyer that he's working
with is based on the alleged racial things thrown at
him by a former Georgia baseball player. From the stands
are gonna say that that that because of the hardship
(01:04:16):
factor of that, that he should be eligible right away.
The cynical side of the world is going to out
there saying now if he's starting over Jake from he's
probably still at Georgia. He probably should transfer. Sure, we're
not gonna doubt anything, he says, but eligible right away.
That might throw the whole trancefer world into a little
bit of a tizzy. So this is gonna be an
(01:04:36):
interesting storyline throughout the off season to see how the
n c A rules about his eligibility for this year. Yeah,
he also didn't he hired the same guy that had Yeah,
And it's and that the hardship case of this for
Shade Patterson was that, Okay, well look, your program was naughty,
You're not going to a bowl game forever, and you
(01:04:59):
you have a new coaching staff and these codes and
it's almost a way it wasn't as much to help
out Shade Patterson as it was to punish old myths.
But I say, okay, you know what, you can let
these players go and give him a break because of
what's happened before they got here. This would be something different.
And again it's a it's a it's a fascinating story
in terms of how the n c is going to
(01:05:20):
handle this because there is you know that you don't
want to have a question a kid and how he feels.
But at the same time there are people who are
doing that same sort of thing. So uh, it's gonna
be tricky how everyone sort of handles this and how
the n c A is gonna play this one. You

Pete as always, thanks a bunch of stopping by, and
I assume we'll be talking to you on Monday night.
Absolutely have a good guys, wrap it up and join
the weekend. Body enjoin those games. Look, I understand Pete's
philosophy about this game and and the excitement level and
what's going into it as far as being compared to
the wild card games this weekend, But there's a big
(01:06:05):
sunny side for the College Football National champions Game. We'll
get to that coming up in a minute, but first
let's get to deb cars and find out what's trending DC. Hey,
well we've got some NBA games. Is still in action,

news ESPN reporting that Sixers old star Jimmy Butler's clashing
with some of his new team may It's and coaches

recent film session. College Football News seat geeks selling tickets
(01:07:08):
for low as a DWY nine bucks to the College
Football Playoff Championship game Monday night between Alabama and Clemson,
and the NFL News. Chargers running back Austin Ekeler listed
as questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens with a
groin injury. The Chargers did not list Melvin Gordon on
the injury reports. So that's good news for the Bolts.
And while we'll be back to the Jason Smith Show
(01:07:29):
in ten seconds, but first, a word from farmers. From
a hotable landing on a car to a load of
concrete falling on one, we've covered it. Talk to farmers.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a
thing or two. We are farmers under written my Farmers
Truck Fire Insurance Exchange and Affiliates products not available in
every state. Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, back to you, Thank
(01:07:50):
you d You know, the thing is, Mike, about the
lack of buzz right now for Alabama Clemson, and I
get it because you do have four NFL games that
are pre compelling. You know, the rise of Andrew Luck,
Philip Rivers, Lamar Jackson of the Cowboys, and the Eagles,
the you know the Bears. I mean many popular teams,
including the defending Super Bowl champions, are playing. Of a
(01:08:11):
lot of star players playing this weekend. So I get
the lack of buzz, but just realize that on Monday,
after the NFL weekend is over, you're gonna be completely
consumed in every Every fan is going to be completely
consumed by Alabama Clemson. It's gonna be a close game.
As Pete talked about, it's gonna do big numbers and
(01:08:32):
big ratings, and everybody's been paying attention just like they
did last year. There will be huge storylines and things
to get to. It just doesn't seem like it now
because it seems like the plate is so full. But
after this game is over, after these games are over
this weekend, you get to you wake up Monday morning,
it's gonna be oh man, the National Championship Game is tonight.
Everybody's gonna get psyched up for it. Everybody's gonna be ready,
(01:08:52):
everybody's gonna watch. It's just just a tough now to say. Okay,
looking ahead four days from now, how's it gonna be?
And a huge ratings hump from to eighteen almost ten
percent in terms of viewership. And let's face it, as
as we get into Monday and and finished the breakdown
of what all transpired wild Card weekend, it then becomes
(01:09:14):
Dabbo trying to knock off Nick Saban and the next
battle they're in, right we I had a chance to
talk from Salamoni this past weekend with Hunter. Renfrew joined
the show after their win, and he's like, yeah, we
get him one more time. And you know, we we
know they're we're fighting for wins their senior classes or
(01:09:36):
in the mid fifties. As far as how many wins
they've got, we were there were fifty four. Did you
ask kind of renfro how how he's been at Clemson
now for nine years? That well, we did talk a
little bit. I'm like, you know, coach him out, did
he changed whatever? I didn't know that coaches his uh landlord.
So he says that adds an interesting dynamic to things,
especially when they need something fixed. But you go on
(01:09:59):
down the line that there's always new heroes emerging. It's
the next phase of two UH as we're into our
quarterback carousel starting to rev up, as teams that didn't
make the playoffs start thinking about the next iteration of
their squad. Obviously we've got all the coaching candidates and
maybe you'll see a higher Not that the NFL wants
that happening coming out a wild Guard weekend, but we
(01:10:21):
know how that goes. Eventually you start getting the trickling
out of information and and those jobs being finalized. So
you've got all of that. And as I said, I
think the Dabbo Sweeney uh and Nick Saban's story takes
on a life of its own leading up to kickoff
twitter at how about a Fresca? Mike gets swollen down
the Jason Smith Show with my bass friend Mike Harmon.
(01:10:42):
When shopping for car insurance, consider this. Geico has been
saving people money on car insurance over seventy five years.
So if you're serious about savings, it's simple, go to
Geico dot com. After seventy five years, they know how
to save you money. All right, So far in the
show tonight and last night, we have picked three of
the four wild hard games this weekend. Mike and I
(01:11:02):
in lockstep on the Bears over the Eagles, Seahawks over
the Cowboys. We differ on Texans Colts Beard, you change
your pick if you hadn't made them your Texans. I know,
because I got a bad feeling for the Texans, but
I picked him to go to the Super Bowl. I
gotta stick well, you gotta stick with it if it's
still alive. I can't by Pearl jam r here pant
(01:11:34):
trying to encourage, you know, bellowing contest. Well, no, I
was doing like because the last hour was the audio
slave like a stone hour. Yes it was, and that
was last hour Robe. The Chargers are my second lock
of the week. I can't see the Ravens scoring more
(01:11:55):
than thirteen points in this game. The Chargers got to
see Lamar Jackson all ready. I had. I had a
bad feeling for them last game. I picked the Ravens
to win an upset. Frostburg told me I was crazy.
I told you watch Lamar Jackson is gonna make enough plays.
Their defense is gonna frustrate Philip Rivers. And that's exactly
what happened. But playing the Ravens, that's a huge benefit
(01:12:17):
for the Chargers because they learn more from that loss
than the Ravens did from that win. The Chargers got
to see Lamar Jackson already. They got to see what
he did. They got to see them many times he
fooled them, and they've been able to watch a lot
of film and be ready. He is not gonna be
able to have the kind of game he had last time.
There won't be many big plays in this game, and
(01:12:38):
the Charges are gonna have enough offense to keep Baltimore's
defense off balance. Melvin Gordon coming back is a huge deal.
The only way the Chargers lose as that Philip Rivers
just implodes. The Chargers should force a lot of turnovers.
They should win this game by double ditchits. I don't
mean in a in a route kind of way, but
they should win this game by a couple of touchdowns.
(01:12:59):
Put enough scores on the board. Again, if Baltimore scores
more than thirteen points, I'd be surprised. Important to push
the ball down the field. It's one of the concerns
I think the last couple of weeks, you're not getting
as many shots down the field from the Chargers, and
you get Eckler back, at least in theory still listed
as questionable. So you have him and Gordon together, healthier
Keenan Allen, maybe some Hunter Henry. Maybe it's all just
(01:13:21):
playing possum. But the the fact of the matter is
you've got enough guys on the outside to make you
some plays and Antonio Gates will most likely not put
the ball on the carpet again in a big moment,
And that's just it. Everything had to go right for
the Ravens to win that game. Here in Los Angeles, you.
You look at holding the Chargers too fewer than two
(01:13:41):
hundred total yards uh one. But the fact is that
it was hey, hey, round numbers. So specificity wins though,
because I gotta be honest with the people. I mean,
they were right at about two hundred, but fewer than
two hundred sounds much more impressive than at one eight
almost there, because then you're saying it's most to two hundred.
But for Philip Rivers, the time is now right. We
(01:14:03):
talked about the love fest for Andrew Luck and Drew Brees,
the other guy finally getting love. He'll never be fully embraced,
as we talked with Shawn Merriman last night. But Philip Rivers,
as he's got this late career dominance rolling on in
this offense humming. I think it's a big opportunity for revenge.
A couple of weeks after seeing the Ravens up front,
(01:14:25):
they don't get bullied again. I think they handled things
better on the offensive line. Chargers win this game. I
agree with you three out of four. That does not
happen very often, except when it comes to pizza toppings.
Uh yeah, because usually I I say the two I
like you say the two I like, and then we
have one wild card. That's that's about it. Yeah, yeah,
I do it. Du one mushrooms, Yeah, Stu. Every once
(01:14:47):
in a while, you gotta you gotta get a little wild,
and normally on a on a Friday, things get a
little fast and loose. I mean you've already been into
a slide over baby hour in Detroit going on two hours.
Oh and I'm ready. I'll tell you what. There's dancing
girls here, there's all to the lights are down. It's awesome.
Nice next level right there, Twitter At how about a fresca?
(01:15:07):
Mike ats swollen dome. The nick still lead the Lakers
at halftime. This could be as good as it gets
for the two thousand nineteen. But coming up next two
absolute superstars, looks like they're gonna have to really just
suck it up for next season. That's next right here,

Guess what I said. The Knicks lead the Lakers by
(01:16:08):
for and halftime The Blood The Blood Box Sports Radio,
the show with my biss friend Mike Harmon. Again as
good as it may get for the Knicks this year.
They lead the Lakers by four and halftime. The Lakers,
of course, playing without Lebron James and Kyle Kuzma. How
(01:16:29):
the Knicks are gonna wind up losing this game by
twenty I don't know, but I know that's how it's
going to end. And we just have to wait and
see the script being written in the second half. Well,
but at least Lebron's in the building to watch True
and Good. Maybe he puts his wine down as his
puts down his cup of wine and it just rips
off his hoodie and suddenly he's got his jersey on.
He's ready to go out there and play. I mean,
(01:16:51):
I don't think so, because he was ruled out for
another three games today. But oh yeah, they said he's
not gonna play on the road trip. He's gonna take
time before. That's before he gets re evaluated. There's no
definitive time table as to when he actually gets back
on a basketball court. This is a nice long con
instead of having to say, hey, Adam, I'm taking a
couple of days off, I'm hurt. I've hurt minor injury
(01:17:13):
that takes so many weeks. Just a little while, that's all.
It's a little while. You know, Listen, when you're the goat,
you don't have to come back anymore. You're okay to
listen to, no reason to rush and come back when
you've proclaimed yourself the greatest player of all time. Look,
this is why Lebron is in Los Angeles. He's now
a basketball player who was looking ahead to his next act,
and he was coming to l a regardless because he felt,
(01:17:37):
I've accomplished everything I need to accomplish, and now I'm
just gonna set up the rest of my life and
rest of my career. Not that he's not trying as
hard as he had before previously, but he's not consumed
by basketball like he once was. It's why he's in
Los Angeles. He had more, He had four more projects
announced and dropped before he had a meeting with the
(01:17:57):
media to introduce himself as a member of the Lakers.
I mean, you know, that's why he's in l as. No,
you gotta leave them wanting more. And and let's face it,
you know, at this age and this stage of his career,
I mean, you don't want to play with the growing injury.
You just don't good good good. So, speaking of leaving
people wanting more, we'll keep you updated on the Knicks
(01:18:19):
and the Lakers. If Lebron James does wind up making
in incredible I don't know, sip of wine in the
second half. But speaking of wanting more, two players that
you all thought we're gonna get more this year in
this offseason, now doesn't look like they're getting it. The
two major league Baseball free agents that we spend every
(01:18:41):
day wondering is today, the day is today? The day
is today, The day Manny Machado signs today, The day
Bryce Harper signs might be the day you almost caught
Jeff that's in Jack Sparrow. Look, I will say this,
Manny Machado will sign before Bryce Harper. That's because there's
no way Boris leaves Bryce Harper out there to potentially
(01:19:03):
get less money than Manny Machado. Well, I love, I
love the throwback to last night show. Listen to the
whole show, uh Fox Sports Radio The Jason Mit Show
with Mike Carmon on iTunes, download and give it five stars.
We'll we'll show you love forever and again. Jason's trying
to corral all the muskrats for possible uh dispersement across
(01:19:27):
this great United States. Uh. Yes, he does have a
musquette and a funny hat. But yeah, my Machado, what
are they saying a little over two hundred million? That's
the rumor in Chicago. Yeah, this is this is the
deal with these two guys. Machado's best offer so far
from your Chicago White Sox, which John Paul Morossi told us.
And hey, listen, I don't know if he'll go to
the White Sox, but they'll offer him the most money.
(01:19:48):
And that's the most money right now. Not quite the
three million Machado wanted, but two hundred millions. Meanwhile, Bryce
Harper is back talking with the Nationals. Why because they're
the only team to offer him three hundred million. They
from ten years and three hundred million. They turned him
down at the end of the season because they said, no, no,
we can get more. Now, look at what's happening. There's
only three teams involved for Manny Machado. The Yankees are
(01:20:09):
barely hanging on because they introduced Troy Tulwhisky Today. He's
there starting shortstop the Phillies in the White Sox. Is
that where Manny Michado thought he was gonna play? Did
Bryce Harper think he was gonna be? Hey, nobody's really
offering me a contract, So I have to talk to
the Nationals now, No way. But they're both gonna have
to eat crow and take way less money than they
thought because the market is just not there for them. Well,
(01:20:30):
at least for Bryce Harper. I mean it's it's his
agent who is pushing the four hundred number. Right, he
still ends up with three hundred million dollars. He's still
one over on everybody. But is he gonna take three
hundred or is it gonna be where? You know what,
Let's do one year thirty million and reassess next year.
Major I could see Machado and I could see Machado
and Bryce Harper doing. That's saying, you know, we'll do
(01:20:51):
a short deal and then reassess your guys like free
agency when you're twenty eight years. I see that far
more likely for Machado. I think there'll be a bunch
of ouch regardless of these, So it could be one
of those ten year deals and then they look at
things after four years or whatever the case may be.
But you know, to have the three billion dollar plus contract,
that's something Scott Morris and Bryce Harper want to own.
(01:21:14):
You're all there to eat some crow and take less money.

(01:22:21):
You've gotta lay off the helium. You know that new studio,
That new Geico studio makes your voice sound a little
bit higher. I want you to know that. Well, I'm
just excited because the weekend's coming. Jets are gonna get
Mike McCarthy. It's exciting time right now. Interesting now rumors
floating at his asking price was a little bit too
lofty for the Arizona Cardinals and may have been one
of the reasons why they bowed out in the bidding
(01:22:42):
for Mike McCarthy, And I haven't proven that, but it
wouldn't shock me either, seeing that they're on the hook
for all of that salary. What an amazing thing. You
mentioned with the Buccaneers, and you know, this is where
I think the Bucks. You know, look, you can blame
dirt cutter right for everything that went wrong this season.
You start to and o and then you only win
three games out of your final four teen and a course,
you know, terrible turnovers on offense at times, and the
(01:23:03):
word you know, not forcing enough on defense. But where's
the player leadership and ownership on this team? Right? I mean,
you know, you look at the Shawan Jackson, the way
things went with him, the way things went with Brent Grimes,
and you know, a couple of apples that that obviously
the strong leadership in that locker room I just don't
think was there. And I'm just wondering, okay, when the
next head coach comes in, who's gonna step up? And
(01:23:25):
you know, Gerald McCoy, when Jason Light had a season
ending news conference to general manager, you know Gerald McCoy,
he trust me. He was bullish on Jamis Winston being
around for another year. Not so much on Gerald McCoy.
As Gerald's now, I believe, thirty thirty one years old
and making a lot of money, they may be ready
to move on with Eta Vea and some lesser priced
talent as they face some tough decisions financially in the
future as well. So, yeah, when we ranked these one
(01:23:47):
to eight head coaching jobs, I mean, so many people
love the Jets job because you play with Sam Donald.
I guess the only problem is you gotta work with
Mike mccagnen and you gotta try to fill in the
rest of the wholes out in that roster. There there
is that Jason's still losing his mind. Alex. It's okay,
it's a you got good special games, you got all pros.
(01:24:09):
You know the thing as you mentioned Brent Grimes, and
let's start here before you get to the games. He
did a podcast with his wife today where he talked
about how he was upset and he felt disrespected because
he only made seven million dollars a year. They asked
him to cover Antonio Brown week three when that's normally
for guys making fifteen million, or guys are going to
prove themselves. But he also said that he got bench
because he was on his phone at halftime, and he
(01:24:31):
said in the podcast, almost every NFL player gets on
their phone at halftime. It's now maybe that happened in
Tampa I can't see that being the case where almost
every NFL player is on their phone at halftime. Now,
I just can't see that. I can't either. I mean,
and you know, by the way, by the time he
even turned the thing back on, I think you're back
out on the field, right, yeah, you know, essentially halftime.
(01:24:56):
And I'm serious when people talk about halftime adjustments and
things like that, look for the coaches, they get together
and talk. I mean, if I've you ever been to
an NFL game in the coach's box, these guys go running,
literally running out of the press box into an elevator
and as soon as halftime comes, get down to the
locker room altogether exchange notes. But it's not that, you know,
it's a twelve minute halftime. I mean, you have to
(01:25:16):
get back out out of the field, so you know. Look,
and I don't know because I haven't been in an
NFL locker room at halftime, but I find it very
dubious as well. That plane. I mean, but you know,
getting caught with it too is another thing, right, I mean,
it's one thing if you're sneaking a peek at a phone,
but I mean, look, can you imagine Bill Belichick. Is
he allowing guys on his phone in New England? Of course,
Belichick is a standard by which we judge all NFL
(01:25:37):
head coaches quite honestly, Now, if you gave him a
competitive edge, yeah, I think he would do it. They'd
inflate the phones whatever they have to do. But the
point is that or door deep people like that, whatever
they need to do. But you know, maybe film the phones,
whatever the situation may call for. But yeah, I mean,
but listen. When it comes to to Brent Grimes and
Miko Grimes, this has been a fascinating thing with a
(01:25:58):
very outspoken wife on a lot of different levels, with
a lot of the things that she said, uh, you know,
and a husband who's gone along with it and and
look more power to them. I hope they stay together
forever and have a great marriage. But I think the
end is coming soon to Brent Grymes NFL career. It's
gonna be interesting to say where it takes Brent and
where it takes Miko as well when he's done playing
(01:26:19):
reality show coming soon to a television not near me
true story. By the way, I'm sorry to interrupt, So
I tried to get Miko Grimes to write a diary
at Sporting News when when I was there, okay, and
so because I thought, look, she shares her opinions sort
of fascinating, right, and then she came out with all
the anti semitic comments on the Bucks and we ran
(01:26:39):
away from that thing like a hot potato, you know,
like it was just we do not want to be
around this person because we don't want our brand associated
with that. So that that'll just sort of tell you
right there. So yeah, maybe reality TV, but I think
it's like when keeping it real goes wrong, actually done. Yeah,
that's a good reference. I was watching some Chapelle show
(01:27:00):
in a New Year's Marathon just the other day. Alex
Marvez our guest that Jason Spitz, you know with Mike
Armott comedy from the Geik Studios. Find Alex on Twitter
at Alex Marvez. Al Right, four games this weekend. I
gotta start with my beloved Bears, and well the Eagles,
low and behold they made the playoffs, Alex, here we go,
here we go, and Nick Foles, man, he is, he's
(01:27:22):
just look, it's amazing. Right, December comes around and the
guy looks fantastic. But I really don't think that the
slow start, and by the way, he had a two
game when we talk slow start with Nick Foles, right
just because he didn't come out and play at a
super bowl level in Week one of the NFL season
against the Falcons defense was actually healthy at the time,
and then they went down. They faced a hot Tampa
Bay team to start the season and lost. And that
(01:27:42):
was the last we saw Nick Foles right until and
Carson Webb came in in Week three. But so many
folks were just so quick to write him off as
a fluke, etcetera. Not so much. He's getting rid of
the football quickly, he's you know, but when he's also
able to throw the football deep, he's not afraid to
let a play unfold and then try to hit alshon
Jeffrey upfield. He's getting decent support from his running game.
But the offensive line has improved as a year ago
(01:28:03):
has gone on. But look, man, this this Chicago defense,
this is just completely different animal than than what we've
seen here, you know, I Mean, it's what the staffs
that they have right now is just I mean, they're insane.
The the NFL. They led the NFL in fewest first
half points allowed with right. I mean, they've held teams
to six or fewer points at halftime in nine games
(01:28:26):
this season, most in the NFL. They led the league
with fifty sacks and twenty seven interceptions. They had more
interceptions than surrendered touchdown passes, the first defense in twelve
years to accumulate more than forty five sacks and twenty
five I N T s in a single season. Oh
my goodness. And by the way, Mitchell Drobiski has won
nine straight starts. I just want to point that out,
(01:28:49):
so they're getting support from this offense. And by the way,
that the quarterback position highest completion percentage in Bears history
at sixty seven. I mean, I think the Feagles team
is going to be competitive, but I think just making
the playoffs was probably it for them. I think Chicago,
especially playing at Soldier Field, they win, they advance. Serious
x M NFL Insider Extraordinary Alex Marvez with us The
(01:29:09):
Jason Smith Show with my bis friend Mine Garment. Let's
get to what we're gonna see tomorrow. Obviously, the Marquee
game is going to be at night, Seahawks and the Cowboys.
You look, I look at this game, am and I
see a typical Seahawks type game six three, nine, six,
and it's ten nine, it's thirteen nine, or its sixteen thirteen.
(01:29:30):
I just have more confidence the Seahawks will make plays
down the stretch and the Cowboys do. I think the
Seahawks win this well, you know, it's plays down the stretch.
Is interesting because you know, Dak Prescott has actually led
more game winning drives than any other quarterback in the
NFL since two thousand and sixteen. How about them? Apples them?
He actually said an NFL record for for the first
three seasons of a quarterback's career. No quarterback has ever
(01:29:52):
led more of those game winning drives. You know, for Seattle,
I think we continue to underestimate the passing game. I mean,
Tyler Lockett has been absolutely ridiculous. When Russell Wilson throws
to Tyler Lockett, he's completing eighty point three per cent
of the time with no I N T s. He's
This is an amazing connection that has developed there. And
(01:30:13):
of course we know Russell and Doug Baldwin are pretty
darn good. But what concerns me for the Seahawks a
lot of shuffling on their offensive line and I do
think that Dallas can bring the heat on the defensive
side of the football. And listen, having that time off
for Zeke Elliott, for for Zack Martin and Tyrn Smith,
to me was absolutely huge. You know, the Seahawks had
to play, you know, I mean they were competitive against Arizona.
(01:30:33):
They had a playoff spot locked up. They knew where
they were going, but they didn't have a chance to
rest guys because they didn't want to be that number
six seed. Well, so they went ahead. They won their game,
but the Cowboys knew they were locked in at four,
able to rest guys up. And by the way, Dak
Prescott essentially gets like a warm up game, right, I
mean he can know throws four touchdown passes against the Giants.
The Cowboys were gonna take him out of the offensive
line couldn't protect, but they did. I like Dallas in
(01:30:56):
this game, believe it or not. Even though the Seahawks
are a hot team, has been a great story. I
think House advances as well. Quentin Nelson, Darius Leonard making
news for the Colts with they're all pro uh selections
going out the way back to sixty five with Sayers
and butt gets the last rookie team Mency. I had
to do that, Smith, so take that, uh as we
go through. But you know Smith picked the the Houston
(01:31:20):
Texans before the season to go to the Super Bowl,
so he can't back off the pick. But I think
the surge is there for Indianapolis and Andrew Luck to
continue the magical ways. What say you, Alex? Yeah, you know,
you know this one's interesting because you know, do the Colts,
I mean, do the Texans rather have an answer? You know,
for t Y Hilton? T Y in his career, so
it's not just like a short span of games. So
(01:31:40):
we're going all the way back to two thousand twelve.
T Y Hilton has averaged a hundred four receiving yards
a game against Houston. I mean last time about a
month ago, four weeks ago, he had a hundred nine
nine yards and that was what he was supposedly hurt,
right exactly? That an't he just wants to his practice,
you know what I mean, he's already gotten veteran rules. Yeah,
exactly for t Y. And you know with DeAndre Hopkins,
(01:32:01):
last time they play the Colts, he's held to four,
you know, four catches on ten targets. So you know,
it's curious to me the way this Colts team is.
But I think that Houston now Kiki Qti, if he's
able to go, that's a big boost at the slot
receiver position. You know, can the Colts can, Can they
pressure you know, deond I'm sorry Deshaun Watson at home?
You know, last time they played at the you know,
(01:32:22):
Energy Field, they had four sacts of the guy and
Andrew luck Burnton for three passing yards. I know all
signs point toward the Colts staying hard, staying hot, rather
the first the third team in NFL history to overcome
a one in five start to make the postseason. But
I just get the feeling that's crowd in Houston's going
to be energized. I think a big game coming for J. J. Watt.
As you can tell, I'm going with all the home
(01:32:43):
teams here and I can't back off on doing that.
I'm going to go with the Texans, even though something
in the back of my mind says I'm screwing this up.
But I just think, I just I just I just
feel like Houston's gonna win this game because because they're
playing at home, and I like me some Deshaun Watson
still going home team with the Ravens or taking the Chargers.
I'm going with the Ravens because there's an interesting situation
(01:33:03):
developing with the Chargers. You know, justin Forrestborg may be
signed to play defensive tackle with Brandon Mebane not around
and Brandon listen, this is a tough deal. It's a
personal situation. I don't know what it is, but it's
serious enough that it's keeping him not only from practice
but a real this you know, thought that he may
not be able to play for the Chargers. So if
you've got him out and you've got you Tavis Brown
who is not going to play because of an ankle injury,
(01:33:25):
well that's the middle of your defense. Where do the
Ravens attack teams? The middle of the defense? And the
thing with with Baltimore now, and this is the true
test for the Chargers. Uh. You know, no team that
the Ravens have played since adjusting to this different style
running game with Lamar Jackson has faced them twice, so
they everyone's been a unique team. This is the first
time the team has gotten a rematch against the Ravens.
(01:33:46):
So what did the Chargers learn in that first matchup.
Believe it or not, the Chargers actually did a better
job stopping to run against any other opponent of the
Lamar Jackson era. They still gave up a hundred fifty
nine rushing yards, right, So, I mean, can can they
slow them down? Now that they've seen what this offense
does and and so much of the misdirection and and
the fact that they fool you you know, so that
to me is very curious. Also, is Philip Rivers taking
(01:34:09):
a little bit of a decline as a season, has
gone on three straight games with two interceptions. I don't
like that. I like the Ravens at home because I
like their defense, and I just don't think they're gonna
be able to stop the Ravens rushing attack. This this
is so unique what the Ravens are doing right now.
They may be able to write it all the way
to the super Bowl. You can fall on Twitter at

Tell me you're not doing the Will Smith and uh
Alfonso Ribero dance right now? A little bit of one

the first hour of the show when I told you, hey,
(01:36:21):
somehow the Knicks are gonna lose by twenty to a
Lakers team playing without Lebron and Kyle Kuzma. The time
is now and it was just a matter of how
it got there. Well, they were up by ten for
most of the first half. We now head to the
fourth quarter where the Lakers with a six point lead.
Here it comes. So I've in game betting. You might
have had some pretty good action on the Lakers. This
(01:36:43):
is where we are at Lakers and the Knicks. The
Knicks will somehow find a way to lose this game
by twenty knocks started out, well, he's now three of
eleven on the night, Moodier for of thirteen for your
Los Angeles Lakers, you've got five guys and double figures,
including granted Ingram, it's with eighteen and six. A Lonzo
(01:37:04):
Ball is in double figures. A Lonzo Ball is in
double figures. My favorite tweet of the day from any
sports Luminaria and I wish I knew what was to
cite it, but was that Shaquille O'Neil's career free throw
percentages seven points higher than Lonzo Balls. Yeah, you can't
have you can't have a point guarder shoots who shoot
(01:37:25):
from the free throw line. Just can't have it. Noah,
I mean it's not been said about Lonzo Ball, is that?
Oh yeah? By the way, you cannot have the guy
shoot free throws. He's terrible. He's worse than terrible. Guards
have to make their free throws because they have the
ball in their hands. They're getting foul at the end
of games. They need to make free throws. How long
(01:37:46):
is your career gonna be if you're under fifty from
the free throw line? You know, by the way, from
today so far, a Lonzo ball is over two from
the free throw. There you have it, last five games
hitting out at what clip? About? I mean, I think
I if I if I shot ten free throws at practice,
could I beat Lonzo Ball very easily? Could ten free
(01:38:07):
throws I might be able to beat him? Well, the
other thing is you have a guard that doesn't get
to the foul line much at all, right, and then
misses those. But yes, come fourth quarter, that's the guy
that's gonna handle the ball. Get out, get out of
the way. Once Lebron James Um growing injury, however, growing
isn't that how a lot of athletes say? It is?
(01:38:28):
Growing injury, growing injury. That Um. Once that heals and
he's back on the court, well he said, he just
takes the ball again. But we'll see how long his
vacation lasts. And we'll keep you posted on this game
as a continues. I'm telling NIX to lose by twenty.
I'm gonna be no, it's gonna though, Yeah, of course,
I look, it's another loss. It's gonna be the worst.
(01:38:49):
We're gonna have the most losses of the NBA. Uh No,
Bulls win more games. You're kidding? A nice effort tonight
in overtime. Not so fast. Speaking of efforts, it was
just a few years ago that Jimmy Butler was up
and coming All Star with Mike Harmon Chicago. Yeah, yeah,
(01:39:10):
he gonna be one of the next great players in league.
Turned into an All star, hard guy and guy everybody
admired his work ethic, couldn't get along with anybody on
the Bulls. Players hated him, couldn't get along with coaching staff,
and ignored Tom Tibodaux many times putting plays in. So
we wound up out and into Minnesota. Hey, guess what
(01:39:35):
Tim shows up again? What happens? Jimmy Butler can't get
along with Karl Anthony Towns, can't get along with anybody,
and the Timberwolves have no choice but to trade Jimmy
Butler to the seventies Sixers. Jre Butler goes to the
seventies sixers. Now it's gonna work on. Now he's got
Joel and Beat and Ben Simmons. He's gonna be the guys,
(01:39:56):
gonna be the leader. And then today this story bre
as that Butler has quote aggressively challenged head coach Brett
Brown on his role in the offense He has been
vocal in his contesting of Brown and his system, including
a recent film session in which many people who watched
it claimed it was disrespectful and beyond the normal player
(01:40:19):
coach discourse that goes on. There's some give and take
where players and coaches get heated, but as part of
the relationship. But this apparently went past it. Now forget
the fact that we've seen this now at three different spots,
and now Jimmy Butler really is untradeable. Nobody. Jimmy Butler
is gonna finish his career as a guy that's gonna
bounce around with the worst teams in the NBA. He's
(01:40:40):
gonna sit here, go Who's gonna take Jimmy Butler? After this,
after the Sixers realized, Okay, you know what, we just
have to get rid of him, He's gonna play the
rest of his career for Phoenix. He's gonna play for
the absolute bottom feeders. He's gonna play for Cleveland. He'll
play probably play for the Knicks because they're a bottom
feeder and he wants to go there. Nick. Oh great,
but that's where he's going to go because no team
(01:41:01):
that has any kind of aspirations at winning anything is
going to bring a guy in who was now proven
in three places, he can't get along with players and
or coaches. Well, so he's untradeable. Well there, you look
at the places that he's been in. Right, Chicago young
team building, Derrick Rows unfortunately gets hurt and and they
never get to rise and become the team expected. You
(01:41:24):
have one UH Eastern Conference title shot, and that's it.
Jimmy Butler then becomes the leader. Angry Salty moves on
Minnesota rising team. You've got your nucleus, couple of young
stars Wiggins and Cat and what's he do. He doesn't
like their work ethic and he hates them, uh, and
(01:41:46):
he moves on, and then he goes to Philly where
they have a nice young nucleus. Marquel folds all his
demons that we've watched injured not injured, all in his head,
whatever the case may be, with his jump shot. You
then move over still with some scentage points over Russell
Westbrook in some categories, which is kind of interesting what
it's all said and done. But that's a little side
(01:42:07):
side show to to look at later when we talk
about where Mark Mark helle Foltz is. But then you
got Simmons and Embiid, and Simmons and Embiid have their
own issues in terms of space and where they belong
in the order. Uh, the pecking order there in Philadelphia. Now,
Jimmy Butler wants to change the offense. He wants an
old school less free flowing, more pick and roll more.
(01:42:31):
Is so all the the hallmarks of basketball in the past.
And well now he's fighting with young teammates again. So
don't bring him in to be the veteran leader if
you have a young nucleus, I guess is the point.
I'm trying to be around your players at all. Well,
but it took a long way to get there. But
it's like, you know what, I don't like these young guys.
(01:42:51):
I hate these young guys. And you too. I mean,
you can't shoot, you won't take a jump shot, your
jump shots broke in beat. I like you, You're okay.
I mean that's where Jimmy Butler is right now. Uh.
And after twenty one games, it took about a quarter
of the season for this to become the storyline we
all knew we'd get and he'd be calling for someone's head.
(01:43:13):
Didn't think it would be with the coach. I think,
really thought, and I said it weeks ago that it
would be Ben Simmons that he'd be going after. But nah,
let's just go straight to the coach and cut out
the middleman. You know, I'll tell you what. I will
say this though, for for Jimmy Butler, who is proving
that you know, hey, I'm gonna wind up, you know,
playing for these bottom feeder teams. Is I love the
fact that he acts like he's got five NBA championships
(01:43:36):
and a single handedly built title teams. Not even Lebron
acts like this where he does the all, yeah, yeah,
you know what, Yeah, you guys don't know how to win.
I know how to win? What have you won? You've
want nothing? And he walks around like I'm Will Chamberlain
and Kobe Bryant all rolled into one. I mean this
is I love the fact that he thinks he's that
kind of guy. Now wait a minute, now Lebron's going
(01:43:59):
around calling him so off the goat, Right, he's trying
to speak that into existence and get that in everybody's head.
With Jimmy Butler, he's just acting as if, right, he's
trying to speak it into existence. And trying to to
get it out there as to what he is and
what's what he wants to be. And you know, maybe
he can get himself to those five titles, uh in
(01:44:19):
some other league that starts much like the bunko non
NFL leagues that will be going on. Maybe there's some
NBA opportunities uh that will be out there long term.
But I'm curious just to see exactly when this blows
up and and whether it's Brown on the chopping blocker
which player exits. He's got a lot of guts, man,
(01:44:39):
I'll tell you what that is. I just love the
fact that, Yeah, but I act like I'm the biggest
star in the NBA. I tell you I would have
watched out of so many places and how you should
be doing it. That's like he's like the guy who
gets hired and immediately becomes the most disliked employee because
he walks in and he starts telling other people how
they should do their job, like it was a Scott's
(01:45:00):
going any experience. We don't have anybody like that here. Hey,
I will say, how many times have we had interns
come in and say things like, hey, you guys should
do this story? Next, I really like it. Rossberg's not
hear any of them yet. Oh really we should we
should do that. Okay, you like this story, we should
do it. Okay, alright, great, yeah, give me that story.
We'll come and do it. And then and then you
(01:45:21):
turn around and give them the first page of the
rundown and it's in like thirty eight point fonts. This
is the show. We've had a couple of Jimmy Butler's,
uh be our interns out, Well, you should like the story. Okay, well,
we'll do the story. I mean, I appreciate their interest,
in their excitement about being here the story. And look,
everybody wants to have their I'm the Captain now moment
(01:45:47):
Twitter and have out a fresca Mike at Swollen Dome
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.

Butler finds a way to upset the Knicks before he
even joins the team coming up in one minute, I
(01:46:27):
could say this is the best arrest of the week.
Would would I? Would I be oversetting it by spy
saying that my car. It's a pretty good one. It
certainly got arrested. It's not quite on par with three
hour car chases and nonsense we've seen here in southern
California the last couple of days. But no, that's a
good one. What does somebody getting arrested have to do
with one of the wild card games coming up this weekend?
(01:46:50):
You're gonna want to hear it. I promise that's coming
up next. But first it's deb cards with what's trending
d c. Hey, Well, the Knicks came in a stable
center trying to end their aid game. Kid. They led
by double digits much of the game, but the Lakers
currently now have a one point lead over the Knicks
nine thirty one to go in the fourth quarter at
Stable Center. Thunder and Blazers are also still underway Oklahoma
(01:47:13):
City with a one oh one lead over Portland six
one to go fourth quarter. There, the Sons have now
lost five straight. Clippers beat Phoenix feen Milwaukee's one five
in a row the Bucks with one twelve trouncing of
the Hawks. Celtics beat the Mavericks one without Kyrie Irving
still out with the eye injury. Carl Anthony Talons with
(01:47:36):
a double double for the t Wolves. They took down
the Magic one one oh three. Memphis lost its fourth straight.
Nets beat the Grizzlies one oh nine, one hundred. In
NFL news, the Apes All Pro Team was named today.
Rams defensive star Aaron Donald the lone unanimous choice Patrick
Mahomes near unanis forty five of fifty votes. He was
(01:47:57):
one of four Chiefs players named to the All Pro team.
The Bears also had four All pros, and the Colts
now the first teams in the nineteen six with a
pair of first team rookies and linebacker Darius Leonard and
guard Quentin Nelson. We'll be back to the Jason Smith
Show in ten seconds. But first a word from farmers.
From a hotter landing on a car to a load
of concrete falling on one, we've covered it. Talked to farmers.
(01:48:20):
We know a thing or two. Because we've seen a
thing or two. We are farmers under written my Farmers
truck fire Insurance exchanges and affiliates products not available in
every state. Mike Jason, back to you. Thank you d
c uh. This story, well, look, everybody is a football fan, right,
(01:48:40):
no matter what you do for a living, whether you
are radio host, whether you work in a bank, whether
you're a burglar, everybody is a football fan. This story
comes from w n E P six team Scranton, Pennsylvania. Now,
it was just after dark when the truck started down
hills the leads into Scranton, Pennsylvania. Arthur, we're gonna hear
(01:49:05):
the office theme. I mean, I mentioned Scranton tyser doesn't
have the theme from you got that to carrying thirty
thousand pounds? I mean, come on, bananas. Uh. Dale Sauerbeck
is a forty nine year old man from Pittston, Pennsylvania,
and he was arrested on camera just got arrested trying
(01:49:26):
to steal guitars from a music store around three am
on Thursday. About that surveillance video caught a clear picture
of his license plate and officers say they found stolen
guitars at his home, so they went stolen guitars, but
surveillance video was there. Police went to his house, arrested him,
and they found the guitars. Here's the audio of what
(01:49:51):
happened when police showed up to arrest him. Because as
you know now, everything is videotape, body cams everywhere for
police and Dale sour back had one big message for
everybody to hear as the police were hauling him away.
This is all forty nine year old Dale Pitston had
to say after police arrested him for burglary. Is there
(01:50:12):
anything you want to say for you? Go eagles nicely
got arrested, elect your guitar and acoustic guitar taken from
the display, came back in with a mask on, crawling
on the floor, tried to steal three more and that's
(01:50:34):
when he got caught. Go Eagles. But the only thing
he had to say was go Eagle, No, that's pretty good.
Anyone else you gonna say, Hey, we got a good
TV in the rec room in the joint. Somebody excited
watching that game on Sunday. I believe in you, Nick Foles.
You know. Here's the thing is, I needed that guitar,
(01:50:54):
but the Eagles need to win more than I needed
that guitar. So that's okay. I can't believe. Oh so
there's on a surveillance. Now, Oh that's how I got caught.
Or I gotta make sure for next time that they
don't catch me doing that. That's how you get arrested.
Go Eagles. Good for him, though, You know what one
of those statement are you gonna make to someone holding
a microphone in your face? No comment, you know, to
(01:51:20):
my wife or call a lawyer. I'm innocent. You know, media,
you guys are evil. I don't know. And the video
and doctor and the shutdowns, that's good a political message.
Maybe maybe you call for some whiz without I mean
wiz win something I want. I want to whiz w down.
(01:51:42):
Meet me down at where where's this police station at?
Is it on Main Street? All right? Yeah? Can I
get that delivered? I mean anything you could say, but nope,
Go Eagles. That's what it sounds like. He may or
may not have been uh inebriated. Well maybe well, I
mean listen, I mean, I don't know. I don't know.
(01:52:04):
I don't know think the creation is that big a
deal now, I think Look, Eagles fans are Eagles fans
and whatever. I don't think an Look, you're talking about
a fan base that has had people punch horses, eat
horse poop and steel horses. Those are all and and
try to climb up on the horse. Stay right, that's right. Grease.
If you think any of them are gonna bring their
grease if they're able to spring the upset on Sunday
(01:52:27):
over the Bears, will anybody be trying to get uh
grease into their carry ons? I don't know. Do you
think they'll do it for this guy? And they win?
And Nick Fole says, we did this for Saler back.
He had our back on the news when he was
getting arrested. We got your back. Now, yeah, no, there
there certainly is that. And and if you are traveling,
(01:52:49):
good luck with you today. You got a bunch of
t s A screeners called in without pay and they
four and four different airports. Now this time we're getting
that's he could he could have done something. Maybe he
got the shot, maybe he got more t s a
people gonna happen on The police officer who arrested him said,
I asked him if he robbed the place, and he
(01:53:09):
said yeah. Then he started running. He wasn't running very fast,
so I was able to catch well, so I proceeded
to chase him. I like that, okay, And if he
was fast, all right, I'll chase you. Okay. He's not
too quick, so you know they'll see that. And if
I didn't chase him, that'd be bad. Go Eagles. What
(01:53:30):
was better that or the guy, remember the guy got
arrested last year, just started saying the singing the pearl
Jam lyrics, the pearl Jam guy. Yeah, the guy got arrested,
he goes, he goes on his pillow made of concrete.
That's pearl Jam. I mean if the guy that was that, now,
that was one of the best of If we know
that's pretty couple hour best off of the Jason Smith
(01:53:51):
Show with Mike Carmen from last year, that guy would
have made it resting his head on a pillow made
of concrete. That's pearl jam. All. That's what I want
to say before I get arrested. Gotta find that guy again, brilliant?
Don we hear one more time? Tight show? I want
to hear the guy again. This is all forty nine
year old Dale Sauerbeck of Pitston had to say after
police arrested him for burglary. Is there anything you want
(01:54:14):
to say? Go eagles. I even found my guy singing
even flow so so I'm pretty sure it was the
same reporter who got the interview. I mean this shows you,
you know, hey, get down there there's an arrest going
on on main Street and get down there and get
an interview with the guy getting arrested. I mean you
(01:54:36):
get I mean, where where do you get that? Where
media shows up and gets quotes from a guy getting arrested,
you'll get that that offense. No, that's beautiful. The guy
last year was in Illinois. He was in Lake County
in Illinois. But yeah, that's great. You know he's getting
walked and you just happened to be on the scene.
I don't know that if you if you tip somebody off,
you know, maybe maybe a little Paola, maybe a little hey,
you know, grease the wheels too, you could be the
(01:54:57):
guy on the spot. Hey, hey, we work in video.
You can't say things like that on the end. I
didn't say we did it. You can't know. You can't
say that though, Carmen h A R M O. N
oh no, no, I know. Hey, hey, hey, I'm just
talking theoretically about being UH news reporter trying to get
beyond the scene to get Sourbeck statement because now they
(01:55:20):
get to go viral with Go Eagles, Twitter, Fresca, Mike
and Swollen dumb. Hey, let's see lead the loud filling
in for justin Frostburg. See if we can get the
phone number from the uh what what town is that
from the Cranton, Pennsylvania pitched it well, it's actually pitched in. Yes, Yeah,
(01:55:40):
let's get that out of Pitston and we could call
and get him on the phone, do an interview with
us preview the Eagles game, get him on the phone.
Sounds Coming up next. Speaking of preview, we'll start taking
a look at all the big wild card games this weekend.
Make it our big and fearless picks. We'll kick it
off of the bank. Coming up next right here on
Fox Go Eagles. Be sure to catch live editions of

(01:56:30):
head on a pillow baby co crete. Okay, what's called?
I wonder whatever happened to that guy? You ever see
Pearl Jam live? See Pearl Jam live? When I get arrested.
That's what I want to make sure. I say. Legend
(01:56:52):
Fox Sports Radio, That Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the Geico Studios where fIF
team minutes, Canna save you fift more in car? In
sure it's more info visit Geico dot com. Well things
are getting serious, Mike Harmon. Under three minutes to go,
the Knicks lead the Lakers by three, could actually win.
(01:57:16):
It is shocking, shocking, shocking. Well, you get excited, uh
watching a big Friday night affair live from Staples Center
the New York Knicks. Uh, I'm trying, buddy, It's hard.
It's hard, But buddies, this may be as good. This
may be the last Knicks win you get to see
for the entire rest of Yeah, but you're gonna celebrate.
(01:57:39):
You get Lebron James in a suit. Who's was not
there doesn't matter, buddy, doesn't mean playing the uniform. You're
playing made jerseys and the rafters. I can't control who
shows up. That's it, right. I can only control who's
on the court, and it doesn't matter. A win is
a win, is a win. I do like the way
you think your wine go one know today that's all
(01:58:00):
that matters. Uh So, again, we'll keep you updated on
on this incredibly close NBA game, But we're also previewing
all the games this weekend in the National Football League.
While a card weekend is here, it's winning time, or
almost winning time, and it was today. Fox Sports Radio
(01:58:23):
put out all of our Super Bowl picks for the playoffs. Now.
I don't know about other hosts, but I know that
both your pick and my pick that we made in
the preseason are both still alive. So we stuck with
our picks. I'm sticking with the Texans and the Rams
in the Super Bowl. It didn't change my pick because
(01:58:45):
that's who I picked in August. I gotta stick with
it all the way through. And so even though I'm
not really convinced that the Texans can win this game,
I gotta stick with my guys. I gotta stick with him.
I gotta stick with the Texans because I got a
bad feeling about this game. Look, I can easily see
(01:59:06):
this game going this way. Houston struggles to run the football.
When they don't run the football, they don't win. They'll
turn the ball over. The crowd will turn on them
after a while, which is what happens that basically every
Texans playoff game. They don't play well early in, the
crowd gets crazy booing, and suddenly, instead of Andrew Luck
having to come from behind downe three, he's up by
(01:59:28):
two touchdowns early and by the time the Texans get untracked,
it's too late, the Texans losing. I get the Andrew
Luck Twitter police telling me, uh, Andrew Luck wins, Andrew
Luck wins. But what eases my concern and why I'm
gonna this is why I'm sticking with the Texas, and
I have to even though I got a bad feeling,
is that j j watch Davian Clowney. That defensive line
(01:59:51):
can control this game. And instead of an Andrew Luck
game where he throws for three fifty four touchdowns in
a pick, it's an Andrew Luck game where he goes
for three hundred three fifty two touchdowns and three interceptions
that will give the win to the Houston Texans. I'm
that I need Wotton clown You need the defensive line
and control the game. For Sandy Left to throw the
football when he doesn't want to, they get turnovers and
(02:00:13):
that's how they'll win. The Return of the Mac. Run
the football, try to keep Andrew Luck up. Right. They've
done a good job over the course of the year, right,
only eighteen sacks allowed. It's the statue you've heard a
lot over the course of the year. I mean, it's
really just been one of the great restoration projects with Ballard,
with this offensive line. Uh Quintin Nelson comes in with
all the attitudes you could want and then some so
(02:00:36):
run the football. T Y Hilton has dominated downfield. Eric Ebron,
I think there's just too much in Defensively, Indianapolis quietly
the best defense going these last six seven weeks. Yes,
the schedule was kind to them. But they beat a
couple of playoff teams, including some big spots against these
Texans along the way. They get the win on the road. Uh,
(02:00:58):
you know what, look like I said, I have a
bad feeling. I can't shake it. I just have a
bad feeling. I can see two Shawn Watson getting sacked
a lot, the booze coming down. It's really if they
can't run the football, that's it. Scoop and score, baby,
that's what it's all about. But they're my Texans. You
gotta stay with them. Body, you gotta can't dessert your
guys just when things are looking at I shepherded them
(02:01:21):
through oh and three to get them to this point.
I'm sticking with them right now, just when I needed
you most. That's what you're looking for here, that offensive
line to come up huge like Randy Warner. Wow, you
got a Randy Van Warmer reference in that. You know,
we gotta hear Randy Van Warmer next time. There you go,
I win. That's one of my favorite most that's one
of my top ten favorite songs of all. I got
a good version of it by Tim McGraw. I'll share
(02:01:42):
with you retastic. Oh send me that send me so
I can get that. I I guess I was expecting
tight shirt to have it, but I guess sometimes No,
it's a slide slide out a story from the NFL today.
I just can't believe is true. Fox. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
(02:02:05):

a free rate quote. Finish you up this week. I'm
in Detroit. Mike is in Los Angeles, where hearts are
broken all over the Greater l A Area right now,
as the New York Knicks have defeated the Lakers one
to one twelve. Yes, the Lakers are playing without Lebron,
(02:02:49):
without Kuzma, without Magic, staying at worthy without Kareem. No Vladi,
no vladi, no you quick. But it doesn't matter. It's
a w in the box score for the Knicks. The
intestinal fortitude to get a victory, leazy leaving no w
(02:03:11):
w e WWF reference, and stone unturned. As we get
towards the end of the week, I'll tell you nicely done.
I'll tell you the Knicks win despite the fact they
shoot just thirty seven percent from the floor. They beat
the Lakers one nineteen to one twice, succeed and proceed.
So maybe the mix will only be the second or
(02:03:32):
third worst team in the NBA this year and not
the worst team could be. There's still time. I mean,
there's still the Phoenix Suns out there. Yes, still some
stuff to go. Yeah. Now, there's still a lot of
games to be played, a lot of madness. Me still
wishing to see pre stops porzingis so we can bring
back those you know, those tantalizing dance tracks of a
(02:03:56):
couple of years ago, the hypnotic tracks that made you
walk into the ocean. Still waiting for those to bring
come back, buddy, it's been too long. Uh. We're gonna
preview the rest of the games, uh this weekend in
the NFL coming up. Throughout the course of this hour,
we got Seattle Dallas to look at the Chargers and
the Ravens of course, last night we picked the Bears,
(02:04:19):
both of us in concert the Bears will beat the Eagles,
and a few minutes ago, I'm sticking with the Texans,
Mike is going with Andrew Luck in the Indianapolis Colts.
You gotta pick the neck beard. A couple of things
to get to first the NFL, and these are just
things that I'm really shocked, and I don't know if
I'm I'm I just think this story is so interesting
(02:04:40):
on so many levels. Brent Grimes is a cornerback we've
heard about for the past ten or twelve years because
he's always been very outspoken. His wife has been very outspoken,
both saying good and bad things over the course of
her career, and Brent Grimes appeared on his wife's podcast
(02:05:01):
earlier today. Brent Grimes had a season for the tamp
Bay Buccaneers in which, well, it was kind of uneven.
Everything wasn't even for the Bucks because they fired their
head coach. But a couple of things he said, we're
just absolutely out loud shocking right now, Brent Grimes. The
first thing we're going to talk about is him having
to cover Antonio Brown week three of the season. The
(02:05:25):
tamp Bay Buccaneers and Dirt Cutter wanted Brent Grimes to
cover Antonio Brown. Brent Grimes, thirty five years old, has
been a pretty good cornerback throughout his career. Still playing
when you're that old is really good, and he felt
he was disrespected by being asked to do that. And
let's take a listen to why I just was tired
(02:05:46):
of every year my career don't get any type of
like respect for what I do. And then y'all, y'all
hit me with the seven and then we get to
a game with Antonio Brown and now his follow received
res and I just couldn't I couldn't agree with it
because it's just disrespectful because people have follow receivers all
(02:06:07):
the time, unless they're on a rookie contract or are
trying to give hey are usually making thirteen fifteen million
dollars a year. So Prent Grimes is upset he was
asked to guard Antonio Brown, but at seven million dollars
a year, he shouldn't have been asked to do it
because the guys that normally do it are guys that
get paid fourteen fifteen million a year or are younger
(02:06:30):
guys looking to make their name for themselves, and he
felt that he was disrespected by being asked to guard
Antonio Brown. How many cornerbacks are running around out there
with fifteen million dollar contracts. I don't have the list
up here right now in terms of what what folks
make at the position. But this is a guy that,
for the last seven eight years has made somewhere between
(02:06:56):
eight and eleven million dollars. Nope, not enough. Man had
a good run, a lot of incentives and whatever else
into his contracts. But to say I don't make enough
money to cover a guy, you gotta helmet, you got pads,
get your ass out there and try to cover. Now,
in this particular case, he was coming off an injury
(02:07:16):
and missed the first two weeks. So if he wants
to say, hey, I wasn't a percent, so putting me
on Antonio Brown doesn't make any sense. I could listen
to that at least to some degree. But making it
all about what you get paid now, I'm not in
that right tax bracket, not in that same salary range.
It's like an NBA trade doesn't match up. I'm not
(02:07:37):
going out and cover the guy making twice what I do.
You know what I would have said. I would have said, wait, wait,
so it's either guys making fifteen million a year or
guys that are looking making no money, looking to make
a name for themselves. How about I get rid of
your seven million, give you the league minimum. Then you
go out and cover Antonio Brown right there. You gotta
get paid any money. There you go, bad contract. I
like the way you think you see a story this,
(02:07:59):
you go, oh god, he's a lunatic. But you know
that he's not the only one, you know. I mean,
if he's one guy, you know, there's got to be
at least one guy per team that thinks this way.
You know this your disrespecting me by doing this with
the money, and I mean, that's just lunacy. But you
know there's more guys like this in the NFL, you
know there that has to be. He's not the only one. No, no, no, no, no.
(02:08:20):
Everybody counting dollars, right, I mean, we we saw it
out of the Steelers locker room. Of everybody knows everybody's business,
and and we'll chime in on occasion, especially if they
think it's gonna affect their money. In this case, Brent Grimes,
now that's the season is over. Hell with it, Let's
air all the dirty laundry, and here we go. That's
(02:08:42):
just part of the best stuff for from Brent Grimes,
because here's the real thing that I can't believe is
true that he says is true. When the podcast continued on,
he talked about how he got benched at one point
a few weeks ago at halftime of a big blow
outlaw US, and he wasn't really made clear why he
(02:09:05):
was benched. His wife kind of opens the door for it,
and he explains, just, you know what, I was on
my phone at halftime. But I don't think that's that
big a deal. I don't even know if people know this,
you got benched at halftime? Why did you get benched
at halftime? I still don't know what they said I
was on my phone at halftime, and which was true,
(02:09:26):
because I'm on my phone every game in my career
at halftime, every single game. And how many other players
in the locker room on their phone at halftime? I
would say fifties sixties, No, probably, Like the locker room
is like on listen to their phone. They might look
at something on the phone like it's it's two thousand,
eight nineteen. Phones are everywhere, bro, so that that's ridiculous. Alright,
(02:09:51):
So first thing, I like how he plays the whole Hey,
everybody else is on their phones. Man, it's like that,
you know what, why didn't you? Everybody else was speeding?
Why it just stop them. I can't believe for a
second seventy five percent of NFL players get on their
phones at halftime. I mean, maybe it's like that in
Tampa Bay and Dirk Dirk Cutter. That's why he got
fired because he lost because everybody's out right, yeah, because
(02:10:13):
there's no yeah that everybody's out there's no leadership down there. Look,
Alex Marvez said, listen, we talked to him last hour.
Brought this up with me, said, listen, there's no leadership there.
The next guy coming in? What leaders are there in Tampa?
I mean, look, Jamis Winston de facto is your quarterback?
Whoa Jamis Winston can't stay on the field because you
can't trust them to not do anything that's gonna bring
negative attention to the team. But I can't believe for
(02:10:34):
a second onto seventy I can't believe one player on
the Patriots comes in at halftime in, Belichick says, now right,
you know you guys want to get on your phones
for a few minutes, play a little uh Centipede or
Minecraft or you if you're in the middle of a
Fortnite game or words with friends. I know, I got
a couple of games going on. Yeah, I got we
got one with you, I think, Brady and I you know, um,
(02:10:58):
I had one going on with Josh Gordon. But that's that.
I I think it's your turn, Brady, So do that.
I mean, I can't see that. I can't now can
I see Antonio Brown having his own WiFi and telling
players a just get on my WiFi. It's superspeed, super fast,
don't have to worry about turning your phone on or
I mean, but sevent no way, there's no way that happens. No,
(02:11:18):
you might have a guy the sneak peek. If there's
some kind of life event going on, right he got
the pregnant wife, girlfriend, mom, dad, grandma's sick, whatever, whatever
the case. Maybe you might have one of those of Hey,
I gotta do a quick check in or have you know,
one of your lackeys do a quick check in or
something with you and get a message to you, but
you know, there's not a lot of time for just
(02:11:40):
goofing around. You go to the bathroom, you take an
I V and and you get back out on the field.
They were talking about twelve minutes what I would want
to know Alex Marvez and and we were moving through
with so many topics with him. Uh. The fact is
he he talked to Dirt Cutter quite frequently on a
serious X End show like did you circle back with him?
After all this nonsense comes out? Hey, coach, what the
(02:12:02):
hell was going on down there? I'm sorry, I gotta
I gotta, I gotta figures to hang on, hang on
a second. Um, I got like three uh text to
respond to. I gotta check something to what people are
saying on Twitter. I gotta see if my tackle I
made in the first half is showing up some place
my fantasy game. I don't know what's the score my
(02:12:22):
fantasy No, but just going down. I mean this, this
coach is now sending And then they say, coach, why
do you have to send my text during the halftime speech?
You know we're making adjustments, and he goes, we're a
mask communicating here. Let me know if you get who
changed their phone number. I just had four bounce back
to me. Who's got new phones? Oh sorry, coach, I
(02:12:44):
got an Android. I don't think I'm getting the text
that I was getting. I got a problems with my provider.
Oh hey, sorry, coach. Yeah, I gotta go get a
new one. I dropped my phone last night and water
and I have a chance to get a new one.
So yeah, I'm not getting that from you right now,
So just tell me what you want me to do.
Just amazing. I'm amazing the level of chaos going on
down there with the Buccaneers. A lot of decisions that
(02:13:05):
they have to make in terms of their what their
structure of their roster is going to be. For En,
you got Jamis Winston, you got um Matt, you got
de Shawn Jackson and everything that he started the last
couple of weeks and throughout the season. Uh yeah, it's
gonna be an interesting offseason there as they rolled through
the carousel as well. Well, I mean, especially if they're
(02:13:26):
all on their phones, I mean they're gonna get all
the information right away. Well that's just it. I mean
you're not gonna be able to you know, they're not
gonna have any scoopage because they're all communicating themselves. Hey, dude,
do you think coach really knows what he's doing? Hit
me back real fast, then hide the phone. If someone's coming,
Send Delete, Send delete. I wrote you, but you just
(02:13:49):
didn't calling. Why are you so mad? I do want
you as a friend. You just see if the beeps
going across the locker room beat beep, beep, beep, beep,
beep beep ding everybody's text going off, like they all
have music, you know, and they get it, like personalizing
their their text and everything going back and fron. Al Right, guys,
can we start put the phones away? Let's put the
phones away. Let's put the phones away, all right? I
(02:14:11):
got it because look, I understand he makes the point there.
It's phones are everywhere, and there's times look in in
you know, in between times when we're talking. You know,
I'll send a text if my wife text me or
I need to, you know, to to type something back.
Let's listen, that's life happening. But that's also you and
I being able to do something for a living that
it's okay for thirty seconds, for a life event, whatever
(02:14:33):
it is. If it's something for that you need to
go get this from the store on your way home,
and that happens. This is halftime of a game. This
is where, hey, we have a very short amount of
time to make changes, to try to do something that
is a really big deal to a lot of people
that you guys are getting paid a lot of money
for and being on their phones. I I just don't
see it. I don't see not in the twelve minutes
(02:14:54):
as you turn things over, especially when you know he
talks about guys on both ends of the pay scale
and gim of fighting the Antonio Brown thing and why
he doesn't want to cover him. Like every guy in
the NFL's playing for his next job, his next contract,
to retain one with the team he's at or moving
on next. I mean, there's no guarantees. Even the guys
that get these huge numbers that we see thrown about
(02:15:17):
as we know it's the signing bonus. Very few contracts
are structured to where the players seeing every dime of
that money. It's just not happening twit. Yeah, so they're
not gonna be on my phones potentially leaving things, uh
to chance for their next gig. You can reach Mike
on his phone at swollen domes, Me on mine at
(02:15:38):
how about a fresca? Because both of us have Twitter
on our cell phones phone numbers eight seven, seven ninety nine.

the games, we have to preview just something real quick.
Not only because the nicks of the number one trending topic,
(02:16:45):
on Twitter, Nicks yell, how about that the nine win
New York Knicks are now a ten win New York
Knick team. As the Knicks come in to Los Angeles
play the Lakers without Lebron, without Kyle Kuzma, I get it.
But at best they are the third worst team in
the NBA and they beat the Lakers one nineteen to
(02:17:08):
one twelve. This is a Laker team that we have
told you for a long I told you how good
they they will be this because of the addition of Lebron,
James and everybody else finding their own niches. But for
two years we were told by Magic Johnson, the Lakers look,
how good are young players are? How good Brandon Ingram is,
(02:17:31):
he's untradeable, How good Lonzo Ball is, He's untradeable. That
obviously Kyle Kuzman didn't play tonight at all. They're all
so good. They're all so good. And it was basically
pulling teeth to get the Lakers to admit we gotta
go out and get help. Why because these are the
guys they drafted and they look like they're embarrassing and
have egg on their faces. If their handpicked guys who
(02:17:54):
are all so good. They're so good. We're gonna be
so good if they fall on their faces. Well, what
are we finding out now? Brandon Ingram is a nice player.
He's a nice player, all right. He's a guy that's
gonna give you fifteen and eight, and on nights when
Lebron doesn't play, he could go twenty one and nine.
That's nice. He's not a dominant guy. He's not gonna
score thirty points in a game. But then he had
(02:18:15):
eighteen points. When we did an update in the early
part of the third quarter, he was a non factor.
He did nothing. In the fourth quarter, Lonzo Ball had
seventeen points. Like that's awesome. Can't get into the free
throw line. He can't make free throws. This is a game.
Even though the Lakers are playing without Lebron, without Kuzma,
you have to win this game. You are playing at home.
(02:18:35):
The Knicks have won nine games all year, and the
Lakers have this kind of effort and they lose to
the Knicks. The Knicks going and in the fourth quarter
outplay the Lakers. I mean they's outscored him by thirteen
in the fourth quarter to win this game. This this team,
these young players, we told you for a year and
a half. They're just okay. Brandon Ingram is just okay,
(02:18:56):
and Lonzo Ball is just You're only gonna get so much.
These guys aren't breakthrough players who are gonna be franchise players.
If they were, there would have been no need to
get Lebron James. So now the Lakers want to hide
this with a whole Hey, we went and got Lebron,
and this masks a lot of our problems because when
you get the best player in the NBA, suddenly it's
(02:19:17):
okay that brand Ingram is a support guy and that
Lonzo balls support guy. None of these guys are all stars.
Is Brandon Ingram ever gonna make an All Star team?
I mean, really, I know, Is Lonzo Ball ever gonna
make an All Star team? In hell, it's not gonna happen.
These guys are. They are complimentary players. That's who the
Lakers drafted. They didn't draft guys who were suddenly lights
out all star players. They drafted some nice guys. All
(02:19:39):
that the players they're all so good that no, they're
not all so good, they're just okay. No, they're all
pieces and and in his postgame comments immediately fired up
the the audio because Luke Walton salty about the slow
start because they were awful out of the gate, and
you were all excited because it was fifteen to five
and Nick's Knicks, Nicks, Knicks, and then it got you know,
interesting for while, and then the fourth quarter, right as
(02:20:02):
you're thinking, all right, the Lakers are gonna pull away, No,
Luke Walton saw what he's seen from this team countless
times in the fourth quarter when the lawn James isn't
there to pick him up. Is they don't play any
semblance of team basketball. You've got a bunch of guys
running their own plays and doing their own thing, and
it just absolutely breaks down. And against this Knicks team,
(02:20:22):
a bad New York's Nick Knicks team, you still end
up losing by thirteen, uh, losing thirteen outscored in the
fourth quarter because you can't run your normal offense, and
all of a sudden, all those guys that were hot
from the field and the third they were just as
cold and broke uh in the fourth for the Knicks.
Hardaway finishes with twenty two and you have what seven
(02:20:45):
eight guys in double digits. When it's all said and done,
it's a pretty nice balanced attack for the Knicks to
come away with the one nine. The Nick shot from
the floor and they still be that a huge discrepancy
at the free you throw a line. But the Knicks
were aggressive. They got looked. I'm not I'm not telling
you how great the Knicks are, but the Knicks were aggressive.
(02:21:06):
They wanted it more in the fourth quarter. They had
guys played great in the fourth GAZONI was great in
the fourth quarter. But this is this is the Lake
just realized. Lebron masks a lot of things. And that
and the evaluation of Ingram and Lanza, that's what you
have to watch out for, is realized. These guys need
to be part of players who are better than they are.
Bon Ingram has to be your fourth best guy. If
(02:21:28):
he's your third best guy, now you might have problems. No,
that's gonna be maybe your fourth best guy. Right he's
he's a mid line player. Right now, he's not ascended
his game. Uh. The other thing, when you go through
and you start looking at and picking apart the box score,
only six turnovers for your Knicks. Very clean game tonight
as they roll through and roll into Los Angeles with
(02:21:49):
a huge win. Emmanuel Moody a future. You know that
we don't have to get to that part of it
from one over. You know what, one turnover? Point guard
has one turnover? You're okay, there's four or sixteen? He
was he was me out on the courts here, buddy.
(02:22:10):
He is like a thousand times better than he was
before the Knicks got him. I mean, David Fizdale has
unleashed Immanuel Moodiate unleashed, and Nights Shalaman unleast meats eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox Twitter At how about
a Fresca Mike hat swollen dome. Time now to pick
(02:22:31):
the remainder of the games this weekend in the NFL.
We told you last night we both like the Bears
over the Eagles in a big way. We differ on
the Texans and the Colts. I gotta stick with my Texas,
even though I don't have a good feeling about the
game tomorrow. Mike likes the Colts and Andrew luck. How
about Seattle and Dallas. One of these teams is gonna lose.
(02:22:55):
They both still stink, but one of these teams is
going to lose. I know Dak Prescott has played well
down the stretch in games in the regular season. But
this is gonna be an ugly close game, A typical
Seahawks game that goes three nothing in the first quarter,
(02:23:16):
six three ten, six ten, nine, thirteen nine, sixteen thirteen,
This is how it goes. I have more confidence in
the final six minutes that Russell Wilson and the Seahawks
defense are gonna make the place to win than I
do Dak Prescott and the Cowboys defense. Even though the
Cowboys buying larger, more talented than the Seahawks are. I'm
(02:23:39):
going with the team that's done it more in big situations.
Russell Wilson has done it. He's gonna do it somehow
on the final few minutes. Keep the ball away from
Dak Prescott. The defense will come up big in a
close when I'm going Seahawks over the Cowboys. Yeah, I've
got the Seahawks winning it as well. Uh, some of
the same reasons looking for Carson in that run game
get going. I know Seattle is a little bit banged
(02:23:59):
up on the old line, but you got Doug Baldwin
back healthier. Yes, he had to play last week, but
Tyler Lockett the stat Alex Marvez throughout earlier and completion
rate for Russell Wilson, targeting lock it on the year,
looking for that offense to make just one more play
and for the defense to get after Dak Prescott. And
I think you know, we've we've seen some spots down
(02:24:22):
the stretch after that, you know, huge run that he had,
a Mari Cooper had, where you can you can double
up on Cooper, you can eliminate him. And then what
are you gonna go find. You're gonna go find Cole Beasley.
You're gonna go find one of these other receivers. Not
gonna happen in this one. It is the Seahawks with
a victory. And yeah, and the one thing that I'm
seeing a lot of We've talked about this a little
bit less, but I saw more of it today is
(02:24:44):
the pressure on Dak Prescott. This is a huge game
for Dak Prescott. It's worth a hundred million dollars to him.
He's got to play well. I mean, you're insane if
you think that way. Jerry Jones has already said we're
extending back. He's our guy. He said it a few
weeks ago. We're extending back. He's gonna get a hundred
and twenty five million dollars. He's gonna get more guaranteed
(02:25:04):
money than Kirk Cousins Gott. Does Dak Prescott deserve it? No,
But it doesn't matter. This is one of those stories
where it doesn't matter what you or I think, because
Jerry Jones loves Dak Prescott. Jerry Jones loves one thing
more than anything else, to continue to prove he was
right about the players he has drafted, getting Dak Prescott.
Dave now won a couple of division titles with him.
(02:25:27):
He loves him. He's his guy, his handpicked guy that
is taking over for Tony Romo, who Jerry Jones loved
for better part of fifteen years. He loves Dak Prescott.
Dak had his biggest game of the year against the Giants.
They walk out winning the NFC East. Dak could go
no touchdowns and five picks tomorrow and it wouldn't matter.
(02:25:47):
Jerry Jones will bask in the glow of a division
championship and give Dak Prescott that money because it validates
him has a talent evaluator. Hey, I told you Dak
Prescott was good. Here's a hundred million dollars romim Well,
doesn't desert. It doesn't matter if I give you that money.
If I give him that money, it shows you the
impression that he's a guy that's really, really good. And
(02:26:08):
it shows, however, on paper, that we were right about
him because look at this big second contract he got.
Dak Prescott's gonna get that money. The game he plays
tomorrow night is not gonna have an outcome on that.
He'll be the Cowboys quarterback the next five to seven
years making all kinds of money. Yeah, Jerry's already said it.
And we we look at the numbers and you look
at some of the big performances from Dak Prescott. Yeah,
(02:26:30):
there's some clunks clunkers in there, But who else are
you paying the quarterback position? It's the next man up right,
it's the hey shark takes a bite, the next row
of teeth come in when those fall out. Same thing
here at the quarterback trough right that everybody gets their
bite when it's their turn. And right now, Dak Prescott's
the guy. What are you gonna pay a lot of
money to Tannehill or Joe Flacco or one of these
(02:26:52):
other quarterbacks? You're gonna roll the dice that you can
strike magic on a guy who's a washout from another team. No,
you've got your I, you've seen enough and you've already
declared it. So and tell you what if Jerry doesn't
pay him. Plenty of other teams looking for quality quarterbacking
never enough to satisfy all thirty two teams at the
same time, and a lot of cap space for teams
(02:27:15):
uh this year coming in as the cap continues to rise,
So Dak Prescott will get his money. Everybody's got it
to do. List, drop off the gryd cleaning, pick up
some milk, here's an idea. Let's add save hundreds of
dollars on car insurance. And the good thing is you
don't have to drop off four pick up anything. All
I have to do is go to Geico dot com
and in fifteen minutes you could be saving fift cent
or more in car insurance, extra money in your pocket.

But first it's deb Cars with What's trending? D c Hey.

Paul old George with thirty seven points, led Oklahoma City
to one eleven one oh nine win at Portland, and
Nicks beat the Lakers one nineteen, one twelve, so the
game skid is over for the Knicks. It ends at
eight games. Lebron James still out for the Lakers with
a groin injury. Kyle Kuzma also absent for l A
with a swore back. Clippers beat the Sons one eleven,
(02:28:22):
Box top the Hawks one twelve, giving coach Mike Budenholzer
a win against his former team. Kyrie Irving was out
again for the Celtics because of his eye injury. Boston
handled the Mavericks one. Durk Navitski went scoreless in his
final appearance at Boston. Pacers beat the Bulls one sixteen
and overtime. Pacers of now won six in a row.

to you guys, d C, your Cowboys fan. What are
you thinking? Well, I of course I'm and I am
a negative realist about my team as usual. I'm hopeful
because again, the defense has looked phenomenal a lot of
the season. Seahawks always seem to have their number in
the playoffs, though so Russell Wilson obviously with a little
(02:29:49):
more experience. But I am hoping that the Dallas defense
harasses him a lot. And I'm hoping that the good
deck shows up and leads a team to a win
tomorrow night. You have to make that your Twitter profile,
deb Carson, instead of saying all the things that you do,
it just Deb Carson negative, realist, that's not that's a
good right there. That's all you need, that's all it is,
(02:30:12):
right there. Good luck, We're live. The guy goes studios.
We're fifteen minutes can save you fifteen percent more in

eight nine four seven auto. The only hard part figuring
out which way is easier. So we'll pick our final
game of the week coming up in a few minutes.
(02:30:34):
Got the Chargers and the Ravens. But a couple of
minutes here on Luke Walton. Nick's beat the Lakers tonight,
and we talked about it. It's shocking. And the Lakers
young players, we told you they're complimentary players. Brandon ingram A,
Lonzo Ball are complementary guys. But we have followed the
Luke Walton train over the course of the season and
(02:30:54):
told you, look, this is how it's gonna go for
the Lakers. They'll start out slow six and six ish,
then they'll to get their act together right around game
fifteen or twenty, they'll start playing better and they'll start
winning at a clip that's going to be comfortable. If
they get too close to five hundred or under five hundred,
Luke Walton is gonna be relieved of his coaching duties
(02:31:14):
because there's gonna be very impatient fan base. And we'll
say we're midway through the season with Lebron James, were
at five hundred, What the hell man I mean? I
understand we haven't been to the playoffs and just getting
in is what we want to aspire to, but five
hundred ain't getting us in. We miss the playoffs with
Lebron James, that things are gonna be really difficult. And
the Lakers right now are in a situation where there
(02:31:36):
are three games over five hundred and they're gonna play
the next three games without Lebron James. They just got
beat by the Knicks at home in a game in
which the Knicks dominated them in the fourth quarter. If
they're around, if they're at five hundred or a game
or two hunderd when you get to game forty two,
forty forty four, a little bit past the midway point
of the season, the Lakers will make a change because
(02:31:58):
it's gonna be they're gonna be very impatient with what
went on and we have to be playing better. And
already you can see there's chafing under Luke Walton that
they used too many lineups. We had that big story
about a month or so ago. The players don't like
the facts using all these lineups, and players aren't being
used to their potential, and it's just going to get louder.
This is a team that should be better than five
(02:32:20):
and they should be. I mean, I think in the
long run, the Lakers are gonna be fine, because you know,
you need Lebron, you need to gel for a while.
But it's gonna be get to that impatient point where
you get to the midway point of the season and
the Lakers have to say, Okay, we ride this out
with Luke Walton and maybe not make the playoffs, and
that's embarrassing. Then we're firing and bringing in somebody else,
or and we're wasting the year of Lebron James's prime,
(02:32:41):
Or we fire Luke Walton, we bring in somebody else,
Jeff van Gundy or whoever it is. It's gonna teach
them to play better defense. Or get a better ball
flow on offense going on and we salvage this season
and maybe that's our guy. That's gonna be a very
difficult decision, but it's got to be made soon because
you don't want to do it game sixty five and say, okay,
here's fifteen games for a coach to come in and
(02:33:03):
put a system in. That's why the midway point of
this season, where the Lakers are, that's gonna be everything
for Luke Walton. Now see warming up and obviously Lebron
James being on the sideline for whatever period of time
with this growing injury growing injury, uh is is a
problem for for Luke Walton because you're watching the rotations.
(02:33:26):
He's frustrated as hell. You know, we mentioned it a
little bit earlier. Coming into his post game immediately lit
him up and lit up his team for their slow
start and lack of energy in the first quarter as
the Knicks got out to the big lead and then
right back to it in the fourth quarter. Right after
a big rally, take a lead and battle back from
the deficit. They go into the tank and the fourth
(02:33:46):
and you've got a bunch of guys playing their own
game and not a lot of communication, teamwork, and certainly
not a lot of defense. So you've got that. You
also have this gem that can't look good. Uh if
if it's seen, well the the images, what I really
want to see is that. Uh. Stephan Bondi on the
New York Daily News ten minutes ago just said, Hey,
(02:34:07):
the victory celebration in the locker room included James Dolan,
depp in every player and he led the huddle. I
need the video of that. So there you go. So
you got that happening in your visitors locker rooms. So
for the Lakers, a bad look all around. Well you
look what happened was I think James Dolan was hoping
(02:34:28):
his band could play middle of the third quarter, you know,
between the third and fourth quarters, and they didn't let
him do it, so he had to settle for this
there there you haven't what what if this is as
good as it gets? Take the victory Twitter at How

we'll pick Chargers and the Ravens the final game of

You know you got the ring in songs. No, God, No,
it's your verse. You lost to the next just when
Lebron needed you most. I think he's having a glass
(02:36:26):
of wine now, many of them during that game. Nick's
beat the Lakers Number one trunning topic on Twitter. This
is as good as it's gonna get for the next season. Uh.
Time now to take a look at the remainder of
the slate for the NFL. This weekend, we picked all
(02:36:46):
the wild card games. We have one crazy story to
get to. But first, the Chargers and the Ravens. Last
time these two teams played, I told you the Ravens
we're gonna win, Ray, We're gonna win. They were gonna
frustrate Philip Rivers. Lamar Jackson was gonna make just enough plays,
and that Baltimore defense was gonna be great. And that's
exactly what happened. This time, it's gonna go the other way.
(02:37:10):
I can't see Baltimore scoring more than thirteen points. The
benefits of the Chargers getting to see the Ravens a
few weeks ago are so many. They got to see
Lamar Jackson up close. They know exactly how fast he is,
they know what his tricks are gonna be, They've seen
his act. They won't be fooled this time. There's not
(02:37:32):
gonna be a lot of big plays, and the Charges
will have enough offense to keep Baltimore off balance. Melvin
Gordon is back. The only way the Chargers lose this
game is if Philip Rivers absolutely implodes, the Chargers should
force turnovers. They should win this game by double digits,
somewhere like a thirteen type game. Chargers win Ny move
(02:37:53):
on to the next round. Look Out, you got the
fun and excitement of Gus the bus and Lamar Jackson
on the ground. I gotta forced him to throw put
the ball in the air. See if one of these
receivers can make a play get away from the smash
mouth football so down in distance taking care of business
on first down that charges defensive line really taxed. You've
got a couple of guys missing. Me Bane may not
(02:38:14):
go for this one, still dealing with some personal issues,
so we'll see how that plays in the final hours
ahead of kickoff. But you do get Eckler back in
some capacity. Listed his question but expected to go. He
and Melvin Gordon should combine to help make things a
little easier for Philip Rivers. See if he takes a
few more shots down field. The deep ball has been
lacking the last few weeks, but I think just enough
(02:38:37):
to get things going at turnover and then a big
play by Rivers. It's his time. It's now or never
for him. To stake his claim to all this hype
for the veteran quarterbacks. I mean, this is it, This
is it for Philip Rivers. He's got it with this.
This is again another extremely talented Chargers team. This is
the They've proven they can beat the best in their conference.
(02:38:58):
This is where they have to do it. And my
preseason Super Bowl pick too, buddy, So I gotta stay there.
Good luck, buddy. Well, you and I need the Texas
and the Chargers to win this week. Chargers. When shopping
for car insurance, consider this. Geico has been saving people
money on car insurance over seventy five years. So if
you're serious about savings, it's simple go to Geico dot com.
(02:39:19):
After seventy five years, they know how to save you money.
And now we get to what clearly is the nuttiest
story of the week. It involves a burglar in the
great state of Pennsylvania. This story comes to us courtesy
of Scranton Dale Sauerbeck, forty nine year old man of Pittston, Pennsylvania,
(02:39:43):
was arrested this week for trying to steal guitars from
a music shop. He tried to break in around three
o'clock in the morning, stole a couple of guitars. However,
because of the surveillance cameras, they got pictures of his
license plate. The police followed him to his house. He
admitted that he stole the guitars. They arrested him, but
(02:40:03):
he did have a message for the media on his
way to the police car. Now, what happens normally is, hey,
there's reports of something happening. Uh, the news station finds
out about it, they send a reporter. So this reporter
you're gonna hear from Scranton went and covered this story.
And she went and got to the point where the
(02:40:25):
police were arresting Mr. Sauer Beck, and he had one
message for everybody on his way to jail. This is
all forty nine year old Dale Sack of Pitston had
to say after police arrested him for burglary. Is there
anything you want to say for you? Go Eagles? The
only message he had, Yeah, anything, I'm arrested, I'm going
(02:40:48):
to jail. I'm on TV. Hey go Eagles. I want
to make sure people know that. Let's get that out there. Yeah.
I'm also looking up the Twitter account of old w
n E P. There's a lot of problems going on
in the Greater Scranton area, five or six stories here.
Just wow, there's just a lot of stuff going on.
This guy, at least I maybe he took a couple
(02:41:09):
of guitars, wanted to rock out. He mean, he didn't
sing any pearl jam like our guy out of Lake County,
Illinois back in seventeen. But I mean here you got
uh he he just says, go Eagles, supporting the local team,
you know, And it's a Friday night, So I kind
of want to end on a kind of a happy note.
I don't want to talk about I mean, I don't
know what it is. I'm just looking at this right here,
(02:41:30):
and the guy is, you know, he's still guitars, and
he wants people to note and not that, hey, someone
get down to bail me out. Not hey innocent, go Eagles.
It's what people know, Hey, go Eagle. So when I'm
watching the game this week from the wreck room in jail,
hopefully it gets good receptions. Hopefully it's a good TV
that I'll be rooting for the Eagles for thirty Eastern
(02:41:52):
one thirty Pacific to that house. But think about it, sir,
h do you have any last words I can talk
about a lot of things, about how the system let
me down, failures of public education, whatever else. Now go
Eagles go. Eagles talking about that a while too. We're
(02:42:13):
punching horses, we're eating horsepoop, we're climbing grease poles, and
we're robbing music stores and making sure people know we
support the team. Just got arrested. Watch out, Raider fans,
Watch out man. You guys are in trouble. Here comes
the Eagles Fans Twitter and how about a fresca Mike
and swollen Dome. Enjoy the games this weekend. See you, buddy,
(02:42:34):
great stuff.
