Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening, Oh boy show, We've got a lot that
we could get to do. You know that we gave
technical producer Sam Samon Well. First of all, Mike Mayer
and Sam Kinsley are are executive producer and technical directors respectively.

(00:21):
You both work with them on the weekends and your overnight. Yeah,
that's the amount of poll I have here on weekend overnight.
So I demanded, if we're going to fill them on
this time slot, I'm bringing my guys with me. That's
just the way it had to be. But again, it's
your way or the highway. We've come up with a
new nickname for Sam because he also does he only
does half. He refused to do our whole Sunday morning

(00:41):
show that Mike Harmen and I do. He only does
half of it and then he leaves. I've coined him
the Wizard. What do you think about that? I know
you go, Iowa Sam, and it's the past. So what
is the Wizard? He's just got a lot of magic
in those fingers with these sound effects. Yeah he um.
He's also uh not sober. A lot those drinks just

(01:05):
appear with the This is this is the Jason Smith
Show with my Carmen, but it doesn't have Jason Smith
or my Carmen. Tonight, we are a company alive with
the guy go Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could
save you fift or more on car insurance. Physically, I
could I count for a free rate quotes. Now that
we got the landscape kind of laid out and everything

(01:26):
is set, we can start talking about those Cleveland Cavaliers, Jonas,
those Cleveland Cavaliers that I believe will be the Eastern
Conference champions in the NBA this season. My, what an
amazing turnaround in just a week after trading Isaiah Thomas
As the Cavaliers Tonight go to Oklahoma City and take

(01:47):
out the Thunder one one twelve. Last thing I ever
want to do is be the bearer of bad news,
But unfortunately I've got to pass a little bit of
news along. There are several people within sports media, um,
who ball washed Lebron James like I've never seen an
athlete get ball washed before. We all know who they are,
and I just have a little bit of bad news

(02:08):
I'd like to pass along. Um, he's never going to
do an interview with you, all right, He's never gonna
go to lunch. He's never gonna have drinks. He's never
gonna hang out, never gonna socialize, never gonna be your friend.
It's way too much. It's way over the top. The
quote new look Calves have played what three games together? Three?

(02:29):
Slow down? Man? Geez, how like? Is this too much? Dan?
It's a little too much Jonas Jonas so win at
Boston with ease, just pulling away from the Celtics from
pretty much midway through the second quarter on It's a
night against Oklahoma City. Lebron's number since Issaiah Thomas left

(02:49):
town have been dark near impressive tonight thirty seven points,
eight rebounds, eight assists, that coming off the heels of
a point tennessist, eight rebound on game against the Celtics
and then a triple double against the Hawks, and all
of that followed his game winner against the Minnesota Timberwolves,
which was the game before they traded Isaiah Thomas. But

(03:10):
I do think that there is a correlation, and it's
not just the players that they've added. It's not all
about Rodney Hood and it isn't all about Larry Nance
and George Hill and Jordan Clarkson. There is something really
to not having Isaiah Thomas there anymore. And I think
if you're the Eastern Conference, you need to blame Isaiah
Thomas for bringing the Cleveland Cavaliers together, because, whether it

(03:34):
be a small sample size like it's been for the
past three games, this is a different Cavaliers team that
we saw through the first fifty or so games this season.
This seems like a team that is engaged, a team
that is focused, and while they still aren't necessarily great
on defense, their offenses seemed to take it up a
couple of notches without Isaiah Thomas in the mix. So

(03:55):
it is a different team that we have seen. And
I almost think the the Isaiah Thomas drama and his
presence and everything that that he brought to Cleveland has
allowed these Cavaliers to actually get together, galvanized and all
of a sudden, guess what, They're now a force and
likely the favorite in the Eastern comment Did Lebron James
skills get better in the last week? Skill wise? Did

(04:15):
he get better? But everyone's talking about what a better
team they are now without Isaiah Thomas. The fact that
this guy is so fragile mentally that Isaiah Thomas being
on the roster makes him not like the game of
basketball that much more is ridiculous to me, Like that,
it's just totally ridiculous. And and anybody that wants to
complain about Isaiah Thomas being there, it was Lebron James

(04:39):
who deserves a lot of the criticism for the way
this roster was shaped. I mean, they've gone gone above
and beyond. I think, like Isaiah Thomas not being there, Yeah,
he was a pain in the ass. I mean, that
is the worst kept secret in the NBA, and now
people have finally figured out. Guys a pain in the ass.
He's more like Brandon Marshall that than anybody wanted to
acknowledge in the NFL. I mean, a talented player. He

(04:59):
had been trade multiple times and nobody wanted to pay
him because he'd cause problems. But like the idea that
Lebron James is all of a sudden a better basketball player,
I think he's got guys around him that don't have
the ego. They're happy to be there. They had a
lot of ego maniacs on that team a week ago.
But I just think, like it's three games. I don't
think in the Eastern Conference, I didn't I mean I

(05:23):
didn't really think that the Cleveland wasn't going to even
during the struggle. Yeah, I just I said, listen, like,
let's get into a seven game series. The benches, you know,
it gets shorter, um, you know, it tightens up a
little bit. I'll trust Lebron James in those situations over
anybody else in the Eastern Conference. I mean to me,

(05:43):
like nb A wise, League wise, I don't think this
change anything. That they're not even close to Golden State.
I don't think they closed the gap at all, regardless
of what anybody says. I just think they're playing with
a lot of emotion and it's a lot of fun
right now. But like anything, you're gonna hit, you're gonna
hit pitfalls, and that's coming pretty quick. But the conversation
has changed in this point, Jonas that I do think
it's important. Many of us, including myself, felt it was

(06:06):
a foregone conclusion that Lebron James would leave Cleveland at
the end of the season. And the problems that they
had in that city with this team and the problems
that he has had with ownership in Dan Gilbert, a
couple of reasons why we think Lebron would leave all
of a sudden. Now it's a different spirit, and I
think that that changes the conversation. And I agree with

(06:28):
you that the Warriors are still the top team and
Houston probably beats the Cavaliers if they would end up
facing off in the NBA Finals. But I do think
that with the road that the Cavaliers were going to
have to face, I didn't think it was it was
a given that they get through Toronto. I didn't think
it was a given that they got through Boston. And
if they had to go through Toronto and then I
have to go through Boston, it was an even more

(06:50):
difficult road. And failure in the playoffs I felt short
of an NBA Finals was even more of a dagger
into the hopes of Cleveland fans and having Lebron James
return next season. So as I look at it that way,
this actually now, and I think that Cleveland fans are
actually feeling this instead of just trying to hope that
those next four months don't come as quickly as they

(07:11):
could and he could possibly leave. Now there's some hope,
Now there's some energy instead of just oh my goodness,
we've got the funeral coming up in about three months,
so We're just gonna have to to move through it.
I think there's a different energy with the Do you
think though, that that's an issue in itself though, the
fact that it took this to get him energized to
want to play basketball. I mean, like he like, if
you weren't motivated going into the season with the idea

(07:33):
that Kyrie Irving wanted out of Cleveland so bad he
couldn't stand to be your teammate any longer, if you
weren't motivated motivated enough by that, and how you were
embarrassed in the NBA Finals and outplayed by Kevin Durant,
that I don't know what's going to get you motivated.
The idea that that all of a sudden he's more spirited.
It's it's it's almost like a baby finally got his bottle.
Like he like he he was just complaining and crying

(07:55):
silently the whole time, being passive, aggressive, and now a
bunch of guys got traded. He was the reason all
those guys were there in the first place, and now
everybody It just I just think that it's it's a
little bizarre that that this guy continues to that people
continue to praise and praise and praise and don't really
criticize him for the state that the team was in.
If they were in such a bad spot, he's a
big part of the re reason why well, Fox Sports

(08:17):
one NBA insider Chris Brussard gave a reason on why
maybe Lebron was crying for those if you want to
put it in that term, for these last couple of
weeks and even the last couple of months. Broussard, host
here on Fox Sports Radio, was on Undisputed on Fox
Sports One, shedding light earlier today on the relationship between
Lebron James and Isaiah Thomas in Cleveland. Let me say this,

(08:39):
first of all, I was talking to somebody yesterday close
to Isaiah and they said he has absolutely no love
at all for Lebron. Like this is real, Like he
didn't he felt like Lebron kind of talked down to
him when he was there and so on and so forth,
and when he when Isaiah first got there, they actually
were hanging out a little bit and it was cool.

(09:00):
It is sour pretty quickly, So this is real. So
christoprus Sard saying that the friction between the two obviously
was real. I'm not surprised. It's it goes back to
my original point, like as much as and and don't
get me wrong, I think Lebron James is fantastic. I
have no issue with some of the moves he's made
in his career, but I do think that he is
there's so much diva to that guy, and he gets

(09:21):
whatever he wants whenever he wants. I've never seen a
superstar need more help and demand more help than Lebron James.
And that's a whole another discussion altogether. But like you
and I were talking about it last week, you mentioned
if Lebron James went out and got flip flops made
that had brink struck on the side of him. You know,
if he went out and got those made to try
and show everybody they're going to back up the brinkstruck.
For me, Isaiah Thomas did that a year ago, nobody

(09:43):
said anything about it, Like, like how did nobody know?
Like going into like this guy is a pain in
the ass. I wonder how much money Isaiah Thomas has
cost himself, Like between the injury and just his attitude,
how much money he's well the Cavaliers and as you
look at how the team plays Jonas. They they've been
better offensively. J R. Smith has been better. The addition
of Jordan Clarkson you really can't compare, but it just

(10:05):
seems like they are better. And that then makes you
wonder what Isaiah Thomas does. Considering his agent then says, well,
Lebron likes to have the ball in his hands so much. Well,
then why did they bring in two point guards? You know,
prior to the trade deadline. There's there. You're absolutely right.
And the fact is, I'm going around the league and
trying to find destinations that you would put Isaiah Thomas.

(10:25):
Last night I said he's gonna be a Brooklyn Net.
I don't know why. It's just the only place that
I could actually see something like ridiculous, you know, like
that happening. And I don't even know the salaries, but
you try to. You put any team that's in the
top eight of the East or West right now, would
you want to add Isaiah Thomas team? Absolutely not? Yeah no.
And and so I think that there is that they're there,
and back to the Calves, there's a different energy, They're

(10:48):
they're playing a lot better right now. I just think, listen,
you know, you get to you get to the playoffs,
and now the bench shrinks a little bit, and now
the moment's different, and all these guys who who don't
have experience in there. I just the fact that the
fact that that Larry Nance and George Hill would be
the difference makers on closing the gap between them and

(11:10):
the Warriors, I do I don't understand that conversation. I
just don't get it. I don't know how they're better
the Rodney Hood Jordan Clarkson. You needed guys that we're
willing to do other things. Dive on the floor, play defense,
Derick Rose, Aman Chumpert, Dwyane Wade as eight times. None
of those guys were interested in doing that. And I
do think that the excite, mean we saw it in
the Celtics game. He saw it again tonight. But the

(11:32):
excitement that Jordan I don't think Jordan Clarkson was happy
being a Laker. I think he's glad to be out
of l A. I mean, you didn't want to deal
with the LaVar ball Lonzo ball anymore. Yeah, So, so
it's a fresh start for him. They're actually playing meaningful
games for the first time in their career. Rodney Hood
is going to go to free agency and guess what
people actually now know Rodney Hood and see how good
of a player that he can be. So he could be.

(11:53):
I think all of their values have been lifted up
as well, and that's why they're so excited to join
this team. Uh. Dan Buyer, Jonas knocks for Jason Smith
here on Fox Sports Radio. You can always listen now,
by the way, on the I Heart Radio app as well.
You can get Dan on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox.
Up next though, we are going to find out the
truth behind some major drama in the world of sports.

(12:15):
Right this is good stuff. We will find that on
next for you here on Fox Sports Radio, Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carmen. Here on Fox Sports Radio. He's
Jonas Knox. I'm Dan Buyer. We are in for the
duo tonight. You can catch them tomorrow is they're under
the Dan Patrick Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Right
now in with us talking hoops, is the Cavaliers pick

(12:36):
up another win in Oklahoma City. From Pro Basketball Talk
to Managing Editor Pro Basketball Talk at NBC Sports, Kirk
Healan joins us. Get even Kirk go to talk to
you again. Good to go, Hey, how's it going. You know,
it's amazing how much smoother is he Jason Smith show
runs when you guys are doing Jason know that you
said that's it's very on the show. Yeah, let's start

(13:01):
out with those Cleveland Cavaliers, because tonight they get their
third straight win since trading Isaiah Thomas. Of course, they
had the win against the timber Wolves the day before
the trade deadline, but really focusing on these three games,
are you so that this is now the new calves,
the new new look calves that can do damage in
the Eastern Conference just after this three game span. Um,

(13:24):
I'm still looking at the car in the showroom. I'm
like what I see, but I'm not sure I'm buying yet.
It's looked good. Over a couple of games are looked
much more athletic. Tonight. You're getting great energy out of
guys like Larry Nance Jr. Who just kind of makes
smart plays and is long and gets in the way.
I like what I see, but I want to see
what happens when they get through some practices during all

(13:45):
you know, after All Star break, and then they let's
see what they look like a couple of weeks in
when the scouting reports start to roll in and people
teams started just in a little bit what they're seeing. So,
I mean they've looked much better and much more active
than the last couple of games. There guys to try
it on defense, that's that's a huge step up. Like
they're rotating the you know, George Hill knows how to

(14:06):
handle a pick and roll. Guys are kind of jumping
passing lanes. They're looking energized, and that's a that's a
good sign if you're a KAS fan and a little
bit worrisome if you're in Boston or Toronto. Can you
make the argument occurt though, that this could have been
maybe as much as we look well, instant chemistry and
you know, they look happy again, But how much of
this could be that it was a wake up call
that there was a big move made and maybe you know,

(14:27):
other players on that roster outside of Lebron James are like, whoa,
we better get our ass and gear else we're in trouble. Yeah. Well,
definitely I think that you're seeing that with j R.
Smith in particular, tonight had a nice game, even Lebron frankly,
I mean Lebron himself, his defense over the last several
weeks was borderline on it sause he just wasn't He
was frustrated, he wasn't helping guys. He put on spurts

(14:49):
where he played a great half, but he wasn't doing
it consistently. Uh, he wasn't getting back in transition, he's
looking energized, and of course I think that that's maybe
the biggest thing is if you put decent play around
Lebron and Lebron is energized and being himself, that's a
team like Lebron can still carry you a long long way.
Curt hell And of basketball or of pro basketball talking

(15:10):
NBC Sports joining us find him on Twitter at Basketball Talk.
There we go. Let's just take a look at the
plast and I look at or what could be the East,
because I actually think that the eight teams in the
East are now settled. Something's happened with Detroit. They've fallen off,
and now it looks like, you know, games that you've
got left. Maybe we know these eight teams. Is there

(15:30):
any teams in that eight that couldn't give the Calves
maybe a run for their money in that first round
if they would have to face them, Oh, for the
first round, I don't know if they get Milwaukee. Milwaukee's
playing their eight and two in their last ten. In
their defense, is it's just been superbs since thence they
got rid of Jason Kidd. Frankly, you're talking to a

(15:52):
Bucks fan, Kurt, So yeah, jeez, Curt, way to dance
on the guy's grave, man, I mean it's been firing
a couple of weeks. For God's s takes. I I
look forward to Jason Jason Kidd highlights as he goes
into the Hall of Fame as a player, but that
I get what he wanted to do defensively, but you know,
they come in now he's just it's simplified. It's a
little more traditional. Guys know their roles. They're not overextending,

(16:14):
and they're allowing less than a point per possession in
their last ten games. Like they're suddenly using all that
length the right way. Uh. Plus they're just getting Jabari
Parker back into the flow. Eric fled so they'll get
Malcolm Brogden back from an injury. Like that's a team
I don't really want in the first round. That's a
team that's still figuring some stuff out, but is really dangerous.

(16:35):
Current from people you talk to around the NBA, and
you've been doing this a long time, what is what
is the reputation of Isaiah Thomas Uh spark plug Uh
Definitely like he brings an energy, but he's not he
brings He brings a chip on his shoulder with that
um in in in a good and bad sense, because look,

(16:56):
he's not in the NBA. He's not who he is
if he doesn't have that chip on his shoulder. But
that doesn't always make him the easiest teammate. And I
think that he's adapting. He thought he needed to be
a leader. You know, he's making all this money. He
wants to be a leader. He was going to be
a leader in Cleveland, but he didn't execute that. Well.
It's kind of like Jimmy Butler the first couple of
years in Chicago, rug, I'm gonna leave this team by

(17:17):
calling my teammates out, Like it's not how it works. Ald, Like,
you gotta pick your spots with that. You've got to
have some leverage, especially and as if you have played, say,
I don't know, fifteen games, and you really haven't played
well in those games. But he's not He's He's loved
by fans. Somebody will give him some money this year.
I mean to me, guys, is it just me? You
know where I see him? Next year? Somebody will pick

(17:39):
him up as a sixth man in the Lou Williams,
Jamal Crawford, I'm gonna come in and just light it
up and be unconscious. And who cares? If I played defense?
Bold like he'd be great at that role. Kurt Hell
and joining us here on the Jason Smith Show with
Mike Carmen on Fox Sports Radio. We were trying to
figure out teams that that he could go to, and

(17:59):
we both looked at it and saying, if you're a
playoff contender in the East, start even in the West
for that matter, I don't want him on my team.
And and that's why I'm trying to figure out a
how much is he gonna get paid? In what I mean,
he doesn't have a lot of leverage because I'm not
sure that there are many teams that are gonna want
to add that to their roster. Yeah, if you can

(18:19):
get him to it, if he's willing to accept the role.
When you talk to him again, if you if you
could get him to be a sixth man, then yeah,
I'll give him ten eleven million over, but like three
years max, and I probably want a player option or
a team option on one of those or maybe on
the fourth, because like that hip thing is serious, and
his lateral movement isn't the same, and that's you know,
he looked okay for the Lakers um in the one game,

(18:40):
but again he's he's just wretched defensively, so you've he's
got to be put in the right spot or put
next to the right players. I mean again, if I thought,
if you'd accept the sixth man role and just roll
with it, and yeah, like a lot of teams could
use a spark plug score off the bench. But um,
I don't know if he's there or if he's you know,
he's the ending to start where his agent was with

(19:01):
the Lakers, which was which was laughable because like the
second Wonzo is back, man, like it's a Lonzo's show.
If for now and they're trying to develop that guy.
We'll see, he's got to fit in and he's got
to play well this year, but he's gonna get paid something.
I just I'm really curious how many years anybody gives
him at this point. Yeah, I was actually I was
trying to think if there's another player that I can

(19:22):
recall who has lost more money in in the in
a matter of seven eight, seven, eight months. I mean,
because think about it, that fifty three point performance was
less than a year ago. Was that eight months ago?
Seven months ago? I mean, he's how much money is
he lost between injury and attitude both just a ton
And yeah, the attitude thing does play. I mean, you
know what, the Spurs aren't picking him up. There's you know,

(19:45):
he's going to have to go to certain situations where
he's either going to be the star on a bad
team or accept a role on a playoff team, and
you know he can't put butts and seats and fans
fans love him or did anyway, I think they still
would if he's if he's healthy and playing hard, because
a he does play with his heart and be you
relate to him. Man, It's like he's just the one

(20:06):
guy in the NBA might actually physically be able to
look down to and yet he's going in and among
the trees. It's kind of the same reason Alan Ivers.
One of the attractions Allen iverson was that you know,
you could relate to him like I think that that
has some value, but that's more marketing than like what
a coach is gonna want Kurt Healin joining us here
on Fox Sports Radio or talking as Aiah Thomas. Of course,

(20:27):
is Aiah Thomas now a member of the Los Angeles Lakers,
so is Alonzo Ball. But Alonzo Ball still out with
that knee injury. How would you handle the rookie point
guard the rest of the way for the Lakers who
don't have to tank because they don't have a first
round pick, he's dealing been the issue. How do you
handle Alonzo over these last twenty games or so I'm
gonna ship him to Lithuanian let him no, no, no.

(20:50):
I honestly, I'm going to be cautious because he is
the future. But the flip side of that is a
like you said, I'm not tanking and be I'm trying
to develop this guy, like I need him to get
just more time on the court. He was, he was
getting better and better. So if I can get him
back even if he misses another you know, he's out
through the All Star Break at least, but he practiced
today looked pretty good. If I can get him back

(21:10):
after the All star breaker even a week or two
after the All Star break. And even if I'm careful
and don't you know, don't want him in back to
backs or limit his minutes a little, I've just got
to get him on the court. If I can't develop
him and develop chemistry if he's not playing. Kurt Heal
at a Pearl basketball talk at NBC Sports, joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio. One more before we let

(21:31):
you go, and I hope you'll have some fun with us.
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. Did you ever have the nickname
Kurt sexual healing? Did did anybody ever throw that it was?
Actually it was actually healing hands of love? Hey, Kurt,
I want to apologize on behalf of Dan for just
the fact that he went cheesy musical reference. I would
never do something like that. He rest his head on

(21:54):
a billow of that basketball talk again. The managing at
a basketball talk at NBC Sports kind enough to join us.
You're gonna get Jason and Mike back next week, so
we appreciate the time. Kurt and uh I have a
great Valentine's Day. Thank you man. And by the way,
if you're gonna do any better, you can't articulate that cleanly. Man.

(22:14):
That's true. I just found out the actual lyrics thanks
to Jonas. I've gotta I've gotta have food in my
mouth next time. That's that's alright, letter Kurt, appreciate it.
Great information. You just couldn't keep. No, I couldn't because
I didn't want to make like it wasn't a joke,
just like you know, like I would have to think
that at some point. I mean, gosh, I get Dan

(22:36):
the Man all the time on coffee cups or just
you know, the ordered ordered Dan the Man the Man. Yes, yes,
I get that all the time. So I'm just wondering
if he was ever you know, Kurt sexual healing, but
not the case healing hands of love from Kurt Ellen.
I got creeped. I got creeped out one time because

(22:57):
my ex girlfriend her parents ran a salon and I
walked into the salon one time and her little sister
had this like poster board up in the office that
said I Love Jonas, And I'm like, oh good God,
and so I'm I start getting the shakes, so like
like what have I done? Did? I mean? This is crazy?

(23:18):
And then I looked a little further and said, brothers
at the bottom, Thank Christ, Like that could have been
really really dark there for a little while, but but
now I was saved by that. All right? Uh Dan
Barry Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio in for Jason Smith
and Mike Carmen here on Fox Sports Radio. Up next,
there are two athletes, all right, there are two athletes

(23:39):
right now who are a lot alike. You may not
have ever realized this, but they are a lot alike.
We'll explain that to you next here on Fox Sports Radio.
But for all the latest from around the world of sports.

the Olympics and the coverage of the Olympics that will

(25:49):
be coming up on February. You can hear that the
hour here on Fox Sports Radio market. Oh my god,
but it's a non story. It will be at PM.
What a non story. But Christine Brennan, the award winning
columnists for USA Today, we're talking like, you know, Kurt
healand took a shot at Jason Kidd and we said,

(26:11):
my god, Kurt, you know, like you're dancing on the
guy's grave. I mean, the body wasn't even cold before
Christine Brennan shot this off on Twitter. As you cheer
for Shaun White, consider these awful and graphic allegations of
sexual harassment against him, including text he admitted as sending
and a link I couldn't even wait fifteen minutes. So
there it is. Welcome to uh, welcome to sports coverage.

(26:32):
In two thousand eighteen, everybody, dun, dun, dun, dunn. I
didn't even get the gold medal around his neck. Unbelievable.
She's got a point though, if he didn't meddle with
that tweet have been sent. Yeah, you gotta you gotta
cash in when he can. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer.

(26:53):
This is Fox Sports Radio. And earlier today on AM
five seventy l A Sports and The Petrols and Money Show,
Tiger Woods joined the guys. Yes, Tiger Woods, who's going
to tee it up at the Genesis Open at Riviera
this week, joined PMS to talk about well, all things
golf and his health. I've got my my quality of
life back. It was just a very difficult probably six months.

(27:16):
I had to be helped out of bed every day.
It's pretty sad when I can't get to the bathroom
at the middle of the night. I had to have
a bucket next to the bed. It was really bad.
It was a really rough time, and I didn't know
this is how my life is gonna be for rest
of my life. I've been very lucky and very blessed
to have come out on on this side and I
have a chance to talk to you guys and play
golf again and do things that I never thought I
could be able to do again. We'll get next to

(27:37):
the bed. What was that for? What was the bucket
for it? Dan? What do you think, uh like put
put ice in or like a couple of beers. The
fact is no, I don't think it was. Yeah, I think, uh,
you know, moving on from the bucket next to the bed.
Which is interesting. Take Tiger Woods doesn't do radio interviews, yeah,
like so for him to be on PMS and to

(28:00):
talk about the topics that he did, that's a big,
big step. Because Tiger has done I mean I I
think you can maybe counted on one hand he started.
I think he did a podcast earlier this year. But
it's been as all as part of a comeback, it's
also about taking your image and maybe it's a it's
a new day and age than what you had just

(28:20):
five years ago. And considering Johnny Manziel came out and
spoke with Good Morning America yesterday, also did a Barstool
Sports podcast talking about his comeback as he tries to
make it back to professional football. Brings up the topic
of who are you most excited to see in a comeback?
What in what comeback intrigues you the most because you've

(28:41):
got one guy who was at the height of his
sports and maybe the best ever in Tiger Woods, and
then you have another guy that was on such a
roller coaster that was never thought to be the best Jonas,
but boy was he on quite a ride in Johnny Manziel.
Both trying to come back and come back from some
same some different things. The comeback trails for Johnny Manzel

(29:03):
and Tiger Woods will both be intriguing. But the question
is which one is more intriguing than the other. Um.
I actually am a little more intrigued in Tigers just
just from this standpoint. I wonder if at a certain point,
and I was thinking about this is similar to with
Lebron James. You know, like at a certain point, you
just sort of accept the reality that you can't you
can't accomplish whatever your ultimate goal was, and for everybody

(29:26):
it was Tiger Woods is going to win the all
time you know, major championship record. He's gonna beat Jack
all that stuff. That's not happening. Okay, that's just probably
not gonna happen. Um, Lebron James is never going to
win as many titles as as Michael Jordan's but I wonder,
at what point you just sort of take a step
back and go, you know, why, like why am I
really doing this? And I bring it up because there

(29:48):
was Uh. I heard a guy an m M M A
fighter's name is Matt Brown. He was on the Joe
Rogan podcast recently and he said something that kind of
stuck with me, and I wonder how many athletes go
through this. He said he was considering retirement, considering walking
away from it all, and he started asking the reason
he got reinvigorated and wanting to fight again is that
he it was no longer about the the what. It

(30:11):
was about the why. You know, it was no longer
or no longer about the how. It was about the why,
Like it was no longer about how am I going
to do this? How am I going to win this
many majors? How am I going to do this, win
this title? How am I going to He was no
longer about that, It was the why am I doing this?
And I wonder if at some point Tiger Woods, during
you know, having to use a bucket to go to
the restroom and having people help him and all this stuff.

(30:33):
I wonder if at some point he discovered the lie again,
and he just sort of thought to himself, I never
started doing this to chase majors when I was a
little kid, like I just wanted to play golf because
I love to play. And I think maybe that's where
his mind is. And that's why I'm more interested, because
I wonder if he's going to be actually better than
he was before, because he's no longer thinking about how

(30:53):
I'm going to accomplish all these major championships. Now it's
about the why and and and I'm I'm interested to
see how he handles that. I think more people want
to see Tiger succeed than they would be to cheer
for Johnny Manzel. Different situations that both were into. But
the fact is is when I talk about similar to
what they're coming from. There's an argument that Johnny Manziel

(31:14):
was the king of college football at one point and
then makes it to the NFL and has put on
a stage Tiger Woods, we know is the king of
golf and maybe you know, the the king of all
sports during is his heyday to see him come back
from it. The Tiger aspect, also, Jonas has the this
could be the end of the greatness that we've seen now.

(31:34):
If Johnny Manzel doesn't make it that back this time,
I think it's over same thing with Tiger. If Tiger
ends up having more back issues, I don't think we're
gonna see a comeback again. I think he's got his
He's got too many other business issues or business dealings
that he could end up putting his focus in if
he wanted to. And it's very difficult to play with
a bad back. But the question is can Tiger reach

(31:57):
that height again? Johnny Manzel was ever even close to
that in the NFL, and to even think that he
can make it back to the NFL as a completely
is the longest of long shots. Tigers, at least on
the PGA Tour, finishing in the in the top twenty
five at Tory Pines five years ago. He won five
PG eight Tour events. You know that there still could

(32:18):
be something there. And plus he still has the fact
of he played the sport in a way that that
may no other player has ever played the sport. And
that's what I think people want to see again. Tigers
also going to bring in audiences and as as you
look at just comparing the two, Tiger's gonna have more
people just in his corner, cheering. Yeah. And I don't

(32:39):
know how the Johnny manzeliaeverew landed with you, but it
kind of seemed like a little I not not that
that I'm doubting what, you know, whether or not he
really went through all the struggles and all that, but
it just felt more like a propaganda Yeah, a little
little more promotion than it did um and on ist,

(33:00):
you know, evaluation of his self and what he was
going through. Like I just I'm just I'm curious to
see what Tiger Woods is. Because every athlete's got goals.
Anybody that in any profession, you've got a goal, you
know what you want to do. I wonder what his
are like, like deep down, what are his goals? And
I wonder if he's just saying, you know what, I'm
just gonna play and have a good time, like I
enjoy this. I've got all the money in the world.
I still think for my money, he's the greatest golfer

(33:22):
of all time. I never saw really Jack play, so
I can't speak on that, but my lifetime greatest and
one of the greatest athletes and most dominant athletes I've
ever seen personally. But I wonder if he just looks
at it now and says, I'm just gonna enjoy the ride,
because I never maybe he never really enjoyed it before.
I think he has a new challenge and it's the
Jordan's speech and the Justin thomas Is and and I

(33:42):
mean even Dustin Johnson for for that effective he competed
against Dustin before that Dustin was around ten years ago.
But the the new crop of guys that haven't had
to deal with tiger woods like the Speeds and the
thomas Is, and that's what I think is going to
drive them. Because there was even an edge today when
he had his press conference in talking about winning and

(34:04):
when he turned the turn the cold shoulder on the
guys that he now has friends or as friends on
tour when it comes to winning time, and he said, yeah,
it's all about tournaments. I think there's a drive back
there as well. And I'm curious to see how he
plays at Riviera, place that he hasn't played well at
in his career, but he's playing as his foundation is
also tied with the Genesis Open. And then you've got
a couple of tournaments leading up to the Masters that

(34:26):
we expect Tiger to to farewell at Augusta at least
in April, because he knows the course so well. By
the way, guy on Twitter writes in and says, bucket
next to the bed is playing Coachella this year. Very good, Frank,
very good, So shout out to Frank's already putting the
editing Coachell. The bucket next to the bed also a

(34:47):
common theme and sororities across the country as well. No,
because the girls get drunk and then they throw up
in the bucket by the bed at like four am.
That's why. That's why I don't drink Damn. He's Jonas Knocks.
I'm Dan buy our company life for the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say, more like car
in shirts with GEO. Go to Geico dot coma call

(35:07):
eight hundred nine for seven auto. The only hard part
figuring out which way is easier. Dan and I. I
don't know if Dan agrees with me on this, but
I believe that you, yes, you are being giving misinformation
in the world of football. Okay, so find out what
we're talking about next on FSR Hester Concrete. That's Jonas Knocks.

(35:29):
I'm Dan Buyer. This is the Jason Smiths Show with
Mike Harmon here on Fox Sports Radio. But you don't
have those two, You've got us and Jonathan tweets in
I spit soda all over my screen when Jonas imitated
Eddie Vetter with even flow, Hey man, you bring Kurt
Healin on. He deserves to be serenaded. It's just the
way it's gotta be. You now, awkward that must sound
for people listening to the podcast because there's no music

(35:52):
like what job Well. Kurt's Sexual Healing joined us earlier
in the pro am data coming out on college football,
the n C double a saying that the FBS attendance
this past season had the largest per game dropped from

(36:12):
the season prior in thirty four years, and it was
the second largest drop ever. As apparently fewer fans are
going to college football games when it comes to the
FBS level, numbers were down in the sec A, SEC
Big twelve and Pack twelve. The Big Ten saw a
slight increase just of seventy six more fans from two

(36:35):
thousand sixteen to two thousand seventeen. When you had the
success of Ohio State and Penn State and UH Wisconsin
this past season. But college football attendance significant drops that
we have seen. What do you think it is the protests?
Oh that's wrong, that was the NFL. Sorry, I get
it confused. TV ratings for the National Championship I thought

(36:58):
were going to bomb and they didn't. They were actually
great in the SEC matchup. That is the point that
I think when you look at what is That's what
I think is the major point of this is it's
easier to watch games at home, bingo, it is. I
would rather watch a game at home nowadays then go

(37:20):
to an actual game. The at home experience has gotten
that much better over the years. Like every year, doesn't
it seem like it gets better and better and better.
Like I can't listen Fox, and this is not you know,
uh ball washing Fox because we're Fox Sports Radio. But
Fox comes up with really innovative ideas and they've done
it and they were the first ones to put the
score on the corner of the screen at all times. Um.

(37:42):
Like they've come up with some really innovative ideas UM
in doing their NFL coverage. I can't wait to find
out what they're gonna be doing with Thursday night football
because you know, they're doing something. It's not gonna be
the same old roll out, the same product like you've
seen on other networks. Like you know, they're going to
come with something. So like, if that's the case, to me,
the onus is now shift to stadiums and venues to

(38:04):
figure out a way to make the end game experience
safer one and better for for people there as well too.
I just think it's a completely different ball games. There
are two other things that I think though, that college
football is dealing with that the NFL is not number one,
the length of games because and you have got situations
Jonas where college football games are lasting four hours. And

(38:27):
this is this is one of the things that's killing
golf is because of how long it takes to play.
Not that people are they're gonna go to an NFL
game say all right, I'm gonna go and watch the
Jets and then at five, I gotta go run to
the store, Like that's that's not realistic. But the games
are very long. The other thing is this, and this
is something that isn't new to college football, but as
we continue to go and you find out, Okay, what

(38:49):
do fans like, what do fans not like? Clemson won
the national title last year. So thirteen months ago, Clemson
won college football's national championship. There's schedule this past fall
of their home games Kent State, Auburn, Boston College, Wake Forest,
Georgia Tech, Florida State in the Citadel. You have two games. Really, yeah,

(39:12):
And Florida State by that time was awful. They were bad.
So maybe the Auburn game is the game that you
want to go and see. And this is Clemson, and
I'm gonna say that their attendants went down. But if
the defending national champions are playing a schedule like that,
the home schedules for certain college teams are awful. And
I know from going to Wisconsin and I have friends
that have season tickets. They're trying to unload their game

(39:34):
against Furman, or they're trying to unload their game against
Florida Atlantic. Now, no matter how good Lane Kivin's team is,
all they wanted for is they want it when Penn
State comes to town, when Ohio State comes to town,
when Michigan comes to town, and maybe the Iowa game,
and and and if Minnesota gets but that's that's it.
That's all that they care. And as you look at
college football and we try to maybe trim it down

(39:57):
from one to about sixty. You would get more can
competitive games in those arena or in those stadiums if
college football moved towards that and maybe trying to eliminate
some of the lesser the FCS schools in those matchups
against him. Yeah, I think they're and and this isn't
a case. I I know everyone wants to to jump
on the NFL and the world of football and say, well,

(40:17):
it's so dangerous now people don't want to watch that
violent game anymore. I mean, you know it's the beginning
of the end for football. No, that's not the case.
It's just things are different now, you know. I don't
believe that you can actually use the standard rating system
to dictate how many people watch a game. Sometimes people
stream it, sometimes people. I still think there's a lot
of people interested. It's in that's the NFL is the
number one sport in the country. College football is number two.

(40:39):
I don't see how that's changed. Well, one thing that
we will find out next season in college football is
to see if fans want to watch the game of
the year, because that game is going to feature good
to be with you and uh Melitan's Day on the
East Coast. Yes, yes here. If you haven't got and

(41:00):
your loved one something for a good old v Day,
you may want to do it soon. And you know what, Dan,
don't worry about it because if you've lost inspiration for
Valentine's Day, just watch the dudes from Dude Perfect Dude
perfectly sponsoring Valentine's Day K Jewelers. So anybody wants to, uh,
who thought that was a good idea? I have no idea,

(41:22):
Like like, who's Who's Who's the person at K Jeweler's
who said, you know what, man, we really need to
up our game this Valentine's Day? Anybody got any ideas?
And some drunk in the corners like, hey, why don't
we get the guys that throw a football out of
a cargo plane through the mouth of a cow to
you know, do one of our sponsors. Okay, that's a
good idea what we're run with? That that was that

(41:43):
highlight was utterly amazing. That that's how you pun, That's
how you pun on the fly. Take notes, Sam, if
you need to get Valentine's Day tips, don't worry. Jonas
Knox is going to help you out in about eighteen minutes.
Wait man, By the way, the Westminster UM Dog Show

(42:04):
on Fox Sports one has just wrapped up. And uh,
let's just say it was in like Flynn Flynn one. Yes,
the Bichon Fries the winner of the Westminster Dog Show
in New York City. UM. Other winners include the Doberman
that changed chased me when I was eight. He won

(42:26):
Most Gifening Dogs. Yeah, and then dog for best bite
is the dog that bit me in the lip when
I was fine. Ye still love the mark for it.
So those are some of the other and uh, the
most Terrorizing Dog went to our neighbors whose pit bull
got loose last week, So there was that one, So
congratulations to them onto that prize as well. Most Gifted

(42:48):
Dog if you know what I mean, went to my dog. Congratulations. Uh,
just very very gifted. It's a hog hog. Congratulations. Any
other dog awards feel free to let us know. I'm
at Dan Buyer on Fox and your ats. Yeah, there's
there are other dog awards that are out there with those,

(43:08):
at least are the final ones that we know that
are in Tonight come to a live for the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios fifteen minutes could save you fifteen
cent or more on car in turns. Visit guyo dot
com for a free rate quote. Flynn wasn't the only
winner on Tuesday night. The Cleveland Cavaliers were as well,
going to Oklahoma City and downing the Thunder one one twelve.

(43:29):
Is Lebron James had thirty seven points, eight rebounds, and
eight assists for the Cavaliers, who are now winners of
their last three or three and O, I guess I
should say without Isaiah Thomas in the fold and so
the conversation, at least in my mind Jonas, is that
Issaiah Thomas has ruined it for the rest of the
Eastern Conference because he is the reason why the Cavaliers

(43:52):
are actually together in playing basketball. And I know it's
a small sample size, but I've got to say, this
Calves team over this list week has looked very, very
impressive and looks like right now the best team in
the Eastern Conference. I wish, I just wish we could
get somebody to talk honestly, somebody to have an honest
conversation who was in the Calves locker room, uh, and

(44:14):
just tell us exactly what it was like with Isaiah
Thomas there. I really want to know, like I want
to know how bad was it really? You know, because
Brussard Chris Brussar talked about how Isaiah Thomas, you know,
doesn't like Lebron James, and Lebron talked down to him.
He felt like, UM, like, I just I just I
want to know how toxic it really was. I think
that there's a lot of parallels in real life. And

(44:37):
last night I thought it was maybe like when you've
worked at a job for ten years and you end
up quitting, and then the next day, the first day
that you don't have to take that drive, you don't
have to walk through those doors, you don't have to
see the faces of the people that have just drove
you crazy for the last ten years, that there's just
this feeling of euphoria. And that's what I feel that

(44:59):
the Cavaliers have felt. And I'm and I'm trying to
think of other parallels, and maybe it's maybe it's I
just don't know how to break it off with my girlfriend.
I just I can't do it. And then you finally
do it, and you're done with it, and the band
aid has been ripped off and guess what, everything is
good like you feel this the true sense of relief.

(45:20):
And I think that that actually happened with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Maybe there's a guy at work that was just so
annoying or just such a pain and just the worst
person to be around, and then they end up getting
transferred in the entire office just feels better. Those are
the types of situations that I think that Cleveland Cavaliers
locker room went through with Isaiah Thomas. I mean, I'm

(45:40):
trying to imagine that Kevin Love meeting when all of
a sudd they're wondering why Kevin Love was sick, and
Isaiah Thomas is probably like, where were you? Why weren't
you there for the rest of the game, And he said, well,
I was, you know, puking my mind out. I'm sorry
I didn't email you guys, and and the whole Uh.
You know that everyone you know talks about how bad
the defense is since I've got here. They his defense

(46:00):
has been bad since before I got there. I mean, listen,
he's he was correct in his assessment of that. But
Jesus man, you just arrived and you're already throwing you know,
the trip wires and land mines up with your teammates
like it was just a disaster. We had Kurt Healing
from Pro Basketball Talk was on Last Hour here on
Fox Sports Radio. We asked him about Isaiah Thomas's reputation

(46:21):
around the league. Uh, spark plug. Uh, definitely, Like he
brings an energy, but he's not he brings he brings
a chip on his shoulder with that um in in
in a good and bad sense, because look, he's not
in the NBA. He's not who he is if he
doesn't have that chip on his shoulder. But that doesn't
always make him the easiest teammate. And I think that
he's adapting. He thought he needed to be a leader.

(46:43):
You know, he's making all this money. He wants to
be a leader. He was going to be a leader
in Cleveland, but he didn't execute that. Well. It's kind
of like Jimmy Butler the first couple of years in Chicago, rug,
I'm gonna leave this team by calling my teammates out,
Like it's not how it works all that. Like you
gotta pick your spots with that. You've got to have
some leverage especial and if you have played, say I
don't know, fifteen games and you really haven't played well

(47:04):
in those games. But he's not. He's he's loved by fans.
Somebody will give him some money this year. I mean
to me, guys, is it just me? You know where
I see him next year? Somebody will pick him up
as a sixth man in the Lou Williams, Jamal Crawford,
I'm gonna come in and just light it up and
be unconscious. And who cares? If I played defense, mold
like he'd be great at that role. The and I

(47:28):
don't disagree with them. The difference is is that Lou
Williams and Jamal Crawford accept those roles. Listen, I when
Isaiah Thomas first got to Boston, he was He came
off the bench like he never started. Isaiah Thomas came
off the bench. He didn't want that. He did. He
didn't want to come off the bench in Cleveland. He
didn't want to come off the bench in l A.
Despite the whole I'm just here to help the team,
like he wants to be a starter, like he's got

(47:48):
he he believes in his mind that he's one of
the best players in the league. And and he's going
to to fight that too, you know, tooth and nail.
That's just gonna the way it's gonna be. And you
pose the question like where do you see him ending up?
I mean, it's here's here's the other issue. Because he's
been traded so many times, you can guarantee none of
those teams that had him before are going to bring
him back. There was a reason they trade him the

(48:09):
first time. So that knocks off, like, you know, five
or six teams in the league. And then you've got
other teams who are like, well, you know, we don't
need to get smaller. I mean, like that's as small
as it gets. Like, I just I don't know where
he goes. No one's like we need to get worse
on defense when we left and score more. Remember we

(48:30):
were talking to a couple of years ago in the
Indianapolis Colts. We're trying to make moves and free agency.
They went out and they signed who was it, Andre Johnson?
And and you you made the point of I guess
the first I've ever heard of team say go out
and say, you know what we need, we need to
get really old. That's gonna be there. That's the ticket.
Everybody else getting younger and cheaper not us, and that like,

(48:53):
what if you have a point guard of the NBA
on your team, do you want to Sayah Thomas on
your team? So I take the playoff teams Jonas, and
I throw them out the the the window. Sixteen teams
already gone, because you don't want them breaking up your chemistry.
Sacramento want him, know they've got Darrow and Fox. Yeah, yeah,
and they drafted him, so they're out. He's out out

(49:15):
the window. Um, if you could take out the Lakers, well,
he's not gonna stick around with the Lakers again, and
you have Alonzo ball there, so then you could take
them out of the picture. I mean, it just it
goes less and less and less. And that's why I
like in the end, and I know D'Angelo Russell's and Brooklyn,
but I'm just I like feel like it's such a
Brooklyn that's sort of move that they would want to

(49:36):
and and maybe it's not even the actual fit because
I don't want to talk Brooklyn. That's basketball, but that
just seems like the place that he's gonna go that
you're just like I thought, I thought New Orleans and
and here's why they've got big guys. They've got DeMarcus Cousins, Um,
they've got Anthony Davis. You know, maybe he's somebody on
the outside, you know, you know, adds a dimension to

(49:57):
that team, in that lineup that is different. And then
you get this problem. Well, he already played with Boogie
Cousins in Sacramento, and who knows what the hell that
relationship was like, because now we come to find out
that Isaiah Thomas Will has burned many bridges. So like
it's a it's a it's a it's a much more
difficult situation. And that's why, Man, if you just go
back what we're talking seven eight months ago, the guys

(50:18):
throwing up fifty three on his sister's birthday in a
playoff game, and he's the darling of the n b
A and seven eight months later, I mean, he's not
getting max money. Are you out of your mind? I
wouldn't be surprised. I would be shocked if he got
anything over say three years, like if it's if it's
a three year deal or something like that. But that's
nowhere near the money he thought he was gonna get. Yeah,

(50:40):
and he's not gonna get. Here's the the other thing
about that is, he's not going to get another contract
after that. Like they're like if with that hip injury,
and Kurt Healin said it himself, you really still don't
know if he's fully healed from it. And with the
free agent pool that's out there, inen with with Lebron
possibly being able to to pick where he wants to go,
and all George and who knows about Cousins and the Achilles,

(51:02):
and then you got the class in twenty nineteen. I
mean it's there're could be teams that are wanting to
save money for those guys and not wanting to put
money towards his Aiah Thomas, his future is is up
in question to where he's going to play. But all
we know is that in Cleveland there is no more
future in the Calves have turned it around offensively, they
just this is there, what fourth straight game where they've
hit fifteen or more threes and it's just that they're

(51:26):
still giving up some points. They locked Boston down pretty well,
but they still gave up some points tonight against Oklahoma City.
But if they're playing that well and that together and
playing and seemingly having fun, I think it was a
week or two ago Jonas that the Raptors actually pulled
even with them in Vegas odds for winning the Eastern Conference,
and now that has changed, the Cavaliers are now even

(51:46):
money to win the Eastern Comes. Well. I think actually
the Calves odds dropped on the trade deadline day because
of all those moves. Nobody knew how this was going
to turn out. And then I you know, I haven't checked,
but I wonder if now the odds have have a
haead them at even with the Celtics at plus two
five is the next highest to win the Eastern Conference. Uh,

(52:07):
Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox in for Jason Smith, Mike Carmen

(52:27):
something going on for every single any human being listening
to this show right now. Do not go anywhere. I
have got information for you that is going to help
you within the next twenty four hours. Find out what
we're talking about next. On fs ARE, it's the Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmen. Here on Fox Sports Radio,
I'm Dan Buyer. That's Jonas Knox as We're in for

(52:48):
Jason and Mike. Tonight it's Dog Show Night and Flynn
one and this just in jonas best crime Solver went
to Scooby Doo. All right, pothead too? It's it does
the Scooby Doo a pothead? Am I wrong about that?
Is that reckless? No? No? I think yeah, I think

(53:09):
it may have been his owner, But I don't know
if if that's if that's within the rules or not.
Be pretty tough to hold a joint without thumbs, say,
I would make sense that's true. So congratulations to one
Scooby Doo. As we are Comedy Alive from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio Studios, East Coast is already dealing with
Valentine's Day. Um, but if you're I don't know, and
one of my favorite times zoned Central or Mountain or

(53:30):
even Pacific or maybe anywhere in the world, and you
haven't gotten those Valentine's Day gifts, or you're in Hawaiian
it's it's still um, I believe December as you're still
on New Year's break. If you're in Hawaii, very Christmas
to everybody in Hawaii. If you haven't gotten your Valentine's

(53:51):
Day gifts, well, Jonas Knox is here to save you.
Oh baby, this is so good. Oh I love it
all right to Dan, I have got five tips, some
five things you can do for single individuals. Um for
for single men out there who are thinking about Valentine's Day.
You've got no date, You've swiped right a bunch of

(54:11):
times and nothing came back to you, because yeah, you
probably don't have that kind of a personality, and that's fine.
I am here to save you. Okay, some some strategies. Okay,
so this isn't necessarily gifts. This is for This is
just for the ones who have to survive feb and
there's a lot of those. Listen. It can be lonely
out there, you know, like you're thinking about what everybody

(54:32):
else has that you don't have, and so I'm here
to help. Now. First things first, Dan, go out, get
out of the house. Okay, don't sit around. Don't think
that you're going to look like a loser. Because you're out.
You're out by yourself on on Valentine's Day, get out
of the house. And you want to know why, Dan,
Because misery loves company. So so you want to get out,

(54:55):
You want to you want to take in the scene.
If you're sitting at home, something gonna come up that's
gonna remind you of of being alone and it's just
gonna make you feel worse. And the next thing you know,
you're drinking in your living room. Uh, and then you know,
bad things start to happen, and I don't want that
to happen to anybody. Okay, So if you need to
go out, you can go out alone, all right, go
out solo because you're actually gonna have better success if

(55:17):
you go out alone. If you're a single guy, you'll
have better success on Valentine's Day if you go out alone,
because multiple guys can be intimidating. Sure, that's that actually
is is very smart. Yes, Can I can I maybe?
Can I offer a suggestion? Absolutely? If you can't get
your hands all over someone that you'd like to on

(55:37):
Valentine's Day, get them all over a golden tea. Yeah,
you know, could that be an opportunity like like maybe
you just start loading the quarters up and yeah, and
I you know, and and and don't and listen, here's
the other thing. Don't be afraid to fib a little bit.
You know, somebody sees you at the Golden Tea and
they're like, oh wow, God, I can't believe you're playing

(55:58):
Golden Team. They kind of give you that judgment. Look
you can say, uh yeah, my um yeah, my wife
she uh she loved Golden Tea. Oh my god, oh my,
I'm so sorry. And then now you get you you
can play the victim. You can really capitalize them. That's
don't be don't be afraid to fib all right, there's
nothing wrong with fibbing a little bit from time to time, alright,

(56:20):
Like you know, just cut cut some corners. Here's the
other thing. Always go to a bar or a lounge.
You never go to a restaurant. Never ever go to
a restaurant. Because it's one thing to be sitting and
having a drink alone. It's another thing to be having
a meal alone. All Right, you are a loser if
you do that on that kind's day. And I'm not
here to judge, but I just need to point that
out again you're a loser. Don't go to sports bars,

(56:41):
all right. Do not go to a sports bar. I
don't even know what the sports schedule is, Like we
take it one day at a time here at Fox
Sports Radio. But don't go to a sports bar. That's
not a fun place. You want to go to a
place that's got good sight lines, so you know who's coming,
who's going, and where they're sitting. Maybe golden tea isn't
even a good, you know option. You may to just
kind of survey the field then. But but use like

(57:03):
golden tea can be used as a prop. Okay, Like
there's like if if it's next to a table when
you're trying to get somebody's attention, you know, roll your
sleeves up a little bit. I mean I personally don't
do it. I like to wear real baggy clothes in
but you know, listen, like for some people, you can
use it as a little bit of a prop. Here's
the other thing. Be open minded, all right. Be open
minded to your surroundings, okay, because the only people more

(57:26):
annoyed that they don't have a date on Valentine's Day
are the people that have to work on Valentine's Day.
So you may not strike up a great conversation with
one of the other patrons at the bar lounge that
you go to, But everybody's a contestant in this game.
Feel free to talk up the hostess, feel free to
have a conversation with the bartender, with the waitress, because

(57:47):
they're miserable to they're working. They don't want to be working. Yeah,
So so be open minded. Everybody's a contestant in this alright,
Like like like broaden your horizons a little bit. And
another thing, be presentable, alright, you know, like like don't
show up in in a in a faded trucker hat
and some cargoes, shorts and flip flops, like like dressed
like an adult, alright, Like the like, don't dress like

(58:08):
you're you're going out and you don't care if you
get anybody's attention. Dress like you're ready to meet somebody,
Like you're ready to be presentable. You know, have a
little bit of that mystery going be a little mysterious.
You know. It's okay to take a sip out of
a drink and take a gander over at the table.
It's okay to kind of look around a little bit
look look mysterious, look confident, but look presentable. Don't look

(58:29):
like a slob. Okay, Get women to ask themselves, gosh,
why is he alone on Valentine's Day? How? How could
that guy be alone on Valentine's Day? That's that's that's
mysterious to me. And if they happen to ask, you
respond with something like, God, I've been so busy with work,
I didn't even realize it was Valentine's again. Again, a

(58:51):
little bit of a fib. Just show them that you
got other things going on in life, and and and
a harmless you know, the February fourteenth. What the hell
does that even mean? All right, busy, I mean you're
not lazy, okay, and it also means you're probably important. Right.
So those are four ways to sort of present yourself. Okay,
so you can let's let's just I just want to recap. Okay.

(59:12):
Number one, don't stay at home. Get yourself out there, right,
Don't be Yeah, don't be miserable at home. It's not
a fun place to be. Get out of the house
and be presentable. Number two, don't go to the bullpen.
Don't go to the end zone. You know, what you
want to. You may want to go to over to
the I don't know what, Canyon tavern like something like that,

(59:34):
or maybe maybe a rustic bar or something I got
used for you. If it's February and you're drinking a
keystone light at arts Darts, you are finished. You are finished.
You got no shot whatsoever, and you deserve to go
home alone. Don't go to any establishment that has any
sort of sports reference in the name. Yeah. No, And

(59:55):
you need a cool bar slash lounge, okay, And you
want to get there at a decent time as well too,
because late. Listen, you don't want to go for a
happy hour, because happy hour it's a lot of people
that are still in their work clothes. And if they're
still there, like you know, you can tell they probably
have b O at that point. Uh, they're probably you know,
probably already hammered at that point. Like I I would

(01:00:17):
shoot for more seven thirty eight o'clock. You know, you
show up there and then who knows. Then people have
the option whether or not they want to stay. When
you hit four digits on the clock at a bar,
it's a whole another ball game. Man. That's like when
people throw up the four fingers for the fourth quarter
in a football game. When you hit four digits at
a bar that ten o'clock hour, now we're rocking. Okay,
because you're not at arts darts or some dumb restaurant

(01:00:39):
having a meal, you can really turn things up a bit.
Here's another one as well, to the final, final one.
Pay attention to the signs. Okay, there are signs there right.
This is what I will tell men out there on
Valentine's And this isn't just to the restroom. Is other signs,
different sort of signs. Always make eye contact and you

(01:01:02):
refuse to turn away first. If you lock eyes with somebody,
you refuse to turn away first. You consider that whether
or not you will live through the evening. Consider it
a life and death struggle. You refuse to turn away first,
even if it's uncomfortable and uncomfortable amount of time staring
somebody in the eyes like you, guys are getting ready

(01:01:24):
to promote a fight coming up, like you refuse to
turn away because I'll tell you what. If she turns
away first and then immediately starts to adjust her hair
or play with her hair a little bit, you got
her done. Deal wrap, So pay attention to the signs listen,
like just like this, Like if you want to, if
you want to approach somebody that you think might turn away,

(01:01:46):
you say something like this, look at me, look at me,
look at me. And if she does look like Wayne, grow,
you know, keep drinking because things things will shape up
a little bit eat more, even later on in the evening.
But I will say, those are just some hips for
guys out there just to just to feel better about yourselves.
On Valentine's Jonas Knocks guiding you on the way where

(01:02:07):
you may not find love, but you sure may find
a good time. On Valentine's. Yeah, listen, there's opportunities, man,
there's opportunities to make it a good evening. You don't
have to be so miserable. IM just saying that is
great advice from the Jonas Knocks. Of course, they can
probably always reach out to you on Twitter if they
have any questions on how they could handle certain situations

(01:02:29):
and ladies, you know what I'm talking about. Two, if
you ever made eye contact with a guy and you
think he's attractive and you're interested, if the first thing
you do is play with your hair to make sure
you look okay, oh you know, you know it's time.
So at Jesus enough. This is the Jason Smith Show
with Mike Carmen. That's Jonas knocks giving you the Valentine's

(01:02:52):
Day help that you need. Okay, this is a thirty
second commercial. I'm gonna throw a lot of numbers at you, Jonas,
but please they with me. In just fifteen minutes, you
could say fift or more on car insurance. This company
has been offering great rates and great service for over
seventy five years, and anytime you need help you could
speak to one of their trained specialist seven. The company

(01:03:14):
is Geico. Go to Geiko dot com today. Sorry for
all the numbers, and in five four, three to one,
I'm out of time. Yeah, how about that. That's called
Valentine's Day gift for you right there. There's a lot
of Dan Buyer in that computer. Was that you? Yeah? Yeah,

(01:03:37):
that was was There's a lot in there, wizard, don't
go looking for it. Um alright, so Dan Buyer Jonas
knocks in for Jason Smith Mike Carmen here on Fox
Sports Radio coming up next. Uh, Dan, listen, We're not
trying to poke fun at a situation in the NFL. Right,

(01:03:58):
Actually that's a lie. We told we are trying to
poke fund at a situation in the NFL. We will
do that next year on Fox Sports Radio. But for
all the latest from around the world of sports, it's
Tom Looney. Thanks guys. California. Kid with the red hair
did not disappoint tonight in South Toronto and the score
is Hey, it's the return of the King in the
midsp pot shot right takes the goal. White is the

(01:04:25):
new gold NBC providing us with the sound as we
call it in the business. When the score dropped, what
were you thinking? Um? I just felt sober and wild. Honestly,
I've been through so much to get to this point.
That's Sean White talking into a microphone. You know, people
talking about my age, talking about this injury I had
in New Zealand. I'm still recovering from. And it's all

(01:04:45):
worth it now. O carry to the NBA. We go.
Lebron James thirty seven points. Cavaliers rolled the Thunder one
twenty one twelve. The best team in the Eastern Conference
is not the Cavaliers. It's not the Celtics, It's the Raptors.
Toronto Rep Miami one twelve raptors of one, nine out
of the last ten. James Harden, oh nothing, thirty four
points rockets. Issh mailed the Timberwolves one last NBA game

(01:05:09):
of the Nights in the Mile High City with the
Spurs in front of the Denver Nuggets eighty nine eleven
twenty four and counting left in the fourth quarter and
now filling in for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon. It's
Dan the Man and Jonas Knocks on Fox Sports Radio. Oh, Tommy,
any nicknames that they continually called you when you were well.

(01:05:31):
You always know where people are. You know how people
know you in life? Absolutely when I was well, I
know it's cousins on the phone. If they call me Tommy,
is anybody from a certain a, you know, there's no
grown up Tommy's excepver shout out Tommy Losorda because you
keep your little boy name in sports. But those are

(01:05:51):
the only Tommies and Chippers over over sixteen. But also
the loons. My high school nickname was the loon and
then in college it was just Looning because people thought
it was a nickname. They didn't know what was my
real name. People think it's a radio name in radio too.
A lot of people are on the radio station called
Melon people. So well, that's two ms for the New Millennium.

(01:06:14):
Before two thousand it was th h O M. And
then once we got to the year M M in
two thousand, it was a salute to the new Millennium
t O M M. I'm I don't have too many issues, Tom,
what a day? What was your nickname when you were
wearing the letterman's jacket at a strip club when you
were like six, oh, that was fifteen. That was my
first bear in Almrony York Genie's North Maine. Our strip

(01:06:35):
club in Elmira was on Main Street and a very
conservative town up state New York, next door to McDonald's.
And my nickname then was the douche with the braces
who just ordered the miller, like was that at Rodchester's
ros Listen. I loved Dan after Dark, after Dark after

(01:06:57):
a great name for show after Dark. Baby. I have
to go out, guys. I am busy here the Olympics.
I got this Nuggets game to watch you guys, let
me I gotta go. I guess all the small talk
is over. Bye, Tom. We are Cody alive for the
guy go Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say
cent to more on corncerns with go to guy, go
to comic call, not first seven Otto. The only hard

(01:07:19):
part figuring out which way is easier. What do you know, Jonas,
The Indianapolis Colts have a new head coach. Time guys.
Frank Wrych introduced today as the headman in Indianapolis, or
should say on Tuesday, as he met the media for
the first time since he came over from the Philadelphia
Eagles and was named the Colts head coach. Of course,
the first time we heard from Frank Raix since Josh

(01:07:40):
McDaniels has turned down that Colts coaching job. So as
Frank Wright meets the media today, he talks about a
variety of things, and one of those things Jonas is
working with Andrew Luck. To have such a supremely talented player,
with such strong character and such great humility and such
a team first guy is rare. I couldn't be more

(01:08:00):
happy about working in the prospect as far as what
I've been told. You know, Chris gave the update last week.
That's the update that I got, and that's all I needed.
That on Andrew Luck. Today, the quarterback that he hopes
to have for the season. It's also the first time
Frank Reiche will get to work with a quarterback who
looks identical to Andre the Giant. A lot of the

(01:08:22):
qualities that he mentioned with Andrew Luck were true, but
the biggest one is health. And I just I I
just have still stuck on the point Jonas that it
is no guarantee. This isn't just a one season thing.
This is three years of Andrew Luck being injured, and
there has to be some collateral damage from what he
had experienced during that I don't know, thirty six months man,

(01:08:44):
and considering that Andrew Luck, maybe it wasn't as great
as we all wanted him to be prior to that.
I don't know what the ceiling is for Andrew Luck.
I mean their quarterback situation. And one one hand, Jonas,
you're like, well, jeez, you've got Andrew Luck. You've got
Jacoby Brissette. But then on the other hand, you're like,
got Andrew Luck, You've got Jacoby Brissett. So I don't

(01:09:08):
think that they should be as bullish about their quarterback
position in Indianapolis. Is maybe they want to let it
out well and see I think also that they understood
Andrew Luck not playing last year. I wasn't as worried
about it because I think at some point, you know,
and they can't come out and say this, but at
some point they think to themselves, all right, listen, we're

(01:09:28):
not going to bring this guy back in a last
season to to get get battered some more. We're gonna
let him sit out the rest of the year and
then we'll have them ready to go at the start
of next year. So I'm not as as I'm not
as concerned about that. It's just what what is on
this roster, you know what I mean? Like, like, what's
what's there are people? Are people assuming that Frank Reich
is going to step right in, Like if anything, Chris

(01:09:51):
Ballard has got a lot of work to do. Man,
Like you can you can bring any head coach you want,
but if there's not enough talent there too, I mean
less sneed in l A. Everyone likes to look at
the Rams and what a turnaround they did, and Sean McVeigh,
they made so many moves during the off season to
address the issues they had, whether it was Whitworth or
trading for Sammy Watkins or some of these other players

(01:10:11):
that they acquired to re retool their entire team. I
don't think less Sneed with the Rams gets enough credit
for that. A lot of people just put it on
Sean mcnaine what he was able to do, like man
Chris Ballard has got a lot of work to do,
like you better hit a home run with that first pick. Yeah,
and in the Rams and what Lessnie did also as
they took Todd Gurley off of a knee injury when

(01:10:32):
they took him to the draft, and then they also
took Aaron Donald when he was the best player available.
And the Colts I think tried to start to do
that last year and they took Malie Cooker in the
middle of the first round. But you have got to
figure out Ryan Kelly was another early draft pick that
they had. But the fact is is over these last
couple of years, they haven't gotten anything really from those drafts.

(01:10:55):
And they had injuries this past year with Hooker going
down with the knee injury. There's just a lot of
a lot of holes. And I look at mock drafts
and I see some mocking say Kwan Barkley to the Colts.
That's the last thing in the world that Indianapolis needs
to listen to get a running back in the third
or fourth round. If you really want a running back
and him in the third or fourth round, I mean,
come on, take Frank Gore another year. I mean, come on,

(01:11:17):
like he's still serviceable. Now, Frank Greig's got another and
you got Marlon Mack there, remember Return of the Mac.
He's going to be back for another year. Frek Greig
also had to talk about the issue of guess what,
he's got a built in coaching staff somewhat in Indianapolis
after the three coaches were hired by Indianapolis when they
thought Josh McDaniels was going to be the coach, Well,
now they're gonna work under Frank Reich. I'm excited. Now

(01:11:40):
since I've taken the job, I've had a chance to
talk with Matt at some length. This is like a
home run. I mean, things happen in strange ways. This
is a crazy business. But I could not be more
excited than to have those three coaches and look forward
to the other coaches who will be on our staff.
So Frank Reich turning, I guess what could be a
negative into a positive, but saying that he's excited about
the guys that he's gonna work with. But I was

(01:12:02):
telling you this story. Be it early in my radio
career when I was hired for a job and the
guy to train me it was the guy I was replacing.
So they told him that you are gonna be fired
in two weeks, but you have got to train the
guy that is going to Yeah, it was it was
so awful. Okay, it was so It was just I

(01:12:24):
couldn't do anything right. And there was a point Jonas
where he had to record a weather report, and I
know I'm going off on a tangent. I'm supposed to
shadow the guy to find out what I'm supposed to
do for a job and what I'm supposed to apparently
be doing. Once he has kicked out the door and
I'm sitting in the studio and I'm watching him, and
he turns around away from the microphone and goes, I

(01:12:46):
don't like an audience when I do these reports. Okay, Bud,
sorry you should have beat his right there. My bad,
Just just trying to learn. But there there could be
some parallels to maybe when you know when the people
are there, maybe they don't watch there. Man hopefully they
can make it work in Indianapolis. But he's spending an
awkward situation and trying to be a good one. Well,

(01:13:09):
you know, I'm glad that these these guys were able
to land on their feet. Those assistant coaches. What a
rough deal they got. I mean, guaranteed to get paid. Man,
what one just guaranteed to pay? They could go or
anywhere they want. An there's there's no sense of security
and what if if something goes wrong with the defense? Frank,
all right, see you later. Did we tell you something?

(01:13:29):
You know who's got this outside of Bill Belichick and
outside of Doug Peterson. You know who's got the most
secure coaching job in the NFL right now? Frank Reich.
Because they'll take anybody at this point like like they like,
they will stick with Frank Reich just to stick it
to Josh McDaniels and the Patriots to show we didn't
need you. He could win three games the next four years.

(01:13:52):
He will see the fifth year of that contract. I
guarantee it. I guarantee you. We can go to a
live for the guy co Fox Sports Radio Studios. It's
easy to say Amar Car Insurance with good a guy
cooda Comma calle hunder down for seven out of the
only hard part figuring out which way is easier, Dan,
I've got to just respond to something real quick here.
Um guy sends me and his name is blind Willie

(01:14:12):
on Twitter, which which makes his tweet that much more
ironic because he says, uh, um, I I got this girl,
but she works tonight. I'm going to try the who
looks away first game. Now his name is blind Willie,
So I don't know how that would work, you know,
because because he'll win that game, because you know what
I mean, like he like, he like, he'll never be

(01:14:33):
beaten in that game. Yeah, so I'm assuming that that
he's not actually, but he's going to do the look
away game. It's important to make note of this because
I was saying, if you make eye contact with a
woman at a bar, don't look away first, because if
she looks away and starts fixing her hair, you got her.
I mean, she's interested and she wants to look presentable.
The reason I bring it up, Dan, like, don't be
a creeper though, right, yeah, Like, like, don't don't look

(01:14:56):
at her so long that she thinks all of a
sudden somebody dug up Jeffrey Dahmer and put him at
a bar top, you know, like, that's that's not I mean,
let's we've got to be very clear about this, like
don't be a creeper. Okay, you don't want to stare
at it for five minutes. It's not you're not actually
promoting a UFC fight and you're trying, you know, having
the cameras take pictures, like like, just be be an adult,
be be you know, be smart about this. Don't be

(01:15:19):
a creeper. How long? Because you said, even though it
may be a little uncomfortable, you still gotta steak with
the look? Yeah, how long you have to be uncomfortable
to stick with the look? To keep I mean ten seconds?
Is it? Is it just a gut reaction somebody? Somebody
will turn away within ten seconds. Okay, we're not tiring.

(01:15:39):
This isn't like a look, This isn't this isn't Robert
de Niro shooting Wayne Grow Uh you know, and uh,
it's ten seconds is fine. Somebody will look away at
that point. Just make sure it's not you established confidence.
It's about confidence. Dan. The five tips that Jonas Knox
gave you to have a success Valentine's Day, even if

(01:16:01):
you don't have a Valentine. Dan Buyer Jonas knocks in
for Jason Smith and Mike Carmen here on Fox Sports Radio.
Coming up next, Dan Buyer. If you want to hear
a piste off individual, something that all of you do
multiple times a week. Dan did recently and he is
piste about it. Find out what we're talking about next
on FSR. Don'tate this Jonas look shot Boom Listen Dan, Listen,

(01:16:29):
Dan Byer, Dan by Jason Smith's show with Mike car Men.
They're not in. I don't know. I've never heard this song,
but the beat was kind of going with it stinks
that's Jonas knocks. I'm Dan buy Or is that how
it goes? Something like that? Dan after Dark Baby. People

(01:16:51):
are liking this edgy version of Dan. But I'm telling you, man,
you give that guy half a bottle of Jack Daniels
before the show. Completely different guy, completely different than being
So it's crazy and I don't drink. It's it's nuts,
it's nuts. As we Company Alive with the Geico Fox
Sports Radio Studios, Let's see Calves one against the Thunder
on Tuesday night, Rockets pulled away from the Timberwolves. They
continue to roll. Nuggets have the best of the Spurs

(01:17:13):
right now coming down to the wire, but no LaMarcus
Aldridge for um the Spurs tonight. Really kind of hard
deciphering what means less right now NBA regular season action
or college hoops. But actually I think it's college hoops
just because of the selection committee and it's all about matchups.
But at least that's what's happening in the NBA. And
the Calves continue to roll. Yeah, and we're all gonna
do the crash. Course. I've watched a little bit of

(01:17:35):
college college hoops a little bit, you know, paying attention
to some stuff here there, But I just think the
tournament is so cutthroat that I wonder it's good to
know who's out there. You're you're watching guys are gonna
be playing at the NBA level, and you're paying attention
to all that, and and the games are good, but
you get to the tournament and because of the one
and done situation, it's it's like you could be you

(01:17:59):
could be watching and prepping for a team and studying
a team all year long, and they're done the first
weekend and it's you know, there's something else about college
basketball that I think I've finally been able to put
my finger on and what has been missing and what
people have been thriving for. Can we do that in
about twenty five minutes? So yeah, that sound good for
y Okay because I I came upon it the other

(01:18:20):
day and I think that there's some legitimacy. So the
reason why college basketball isn't on the radar as much
as it was a fifteen years ago. We do have
great news. There's a quick way you could save money, Dan,
if you switched a Geico, go to Geico dot com.
In fifteen minutes, you could say fifteen cent or more
in car insurance. Last week, Jonas, I went to a
grocery store at about five forty five local time here

(01:18:42):
in southern California PM, right, yes, yes, PM. So you're
talking about a good after work going to the grocery
store crowd, Maybe a little late to to fix your dinner,
but still I think well within that window, if you're
going to eat at six six teen, show up at
the grocery store. Eight eight lines that are installed, eight

(01:19:08):
cash registers that you could go to one through eight
guess how many are open at this time on a weekday. Okay, three,
there are three. I was gonna say three, but I
wanted to to to express in one regular. So I've
got my basket express. Let's just say fifteen items are less.
I figured I had about seventeen. And I know, if

(01:19:32):
you're listening to the story, you're thinking, oh, you try
to go on the express. No I didn't. I even
with fourteen, will go into the longer one, because I
think fifteen is pretty ridiculous for an express lane. So
I go to the regular lane and a woman comes
up behind me and she has Thailand. All that's what

(01:19:54):
the express lanes are for. Okay, you just because you
have one item doesn't mean that you get carte blanche
to move past everyone. And and so now I'm standing
there and I'm thinking if I don't let her go through,
I'm the bad guy. Yet there are two lanes of
express that have about six people deepen those. This one's

(01:20:14):
got about four, but we have more items. I don't
know who was wrong, Jonas. I don't know who to
be mad at. I don't know who to be mad
at the store. I don't know if I should be
mad at the express items that they're allowing fifteen items
for people. I don't know if I should be mad
at this lady with Thailand all, but I was. I
don't think that that is good grocery store etiquette. If
there's two express lanes, go and express that I am

(01:20:38):
I wrong? Now, now you're not wrong. Everybody's listen. The
grocery store is. There's a lot of annoying things that
go on in a grocery store. Now, the express lane
or the self checkout has caused all sorts of problems
because it's done a couple of things. One, it's made
cashiers at supermarkets feel like they're obsolete, like there's no
need for him anymore. We've got a machine and people
can do it themselves. But then the problem is people

(01:21:00):
get into these uh these self checkouts, and they have
no idea how it works. Maybe she didn't even know
how it works. I'll tell you this, there's nobody better
on the planet than me at a self checkout. I mean,
it is doc holiday off tombstone facts. Well would you
have let her go through? Would you? If? In fact,
not only would I not let her get in front
of me, I would go back and get something to

(01:21:22):
have eighteen items over the seventeen or whatever was the list, Sam, Mike,
are you giving her the pass? If she's in the
long item with just one thing of Thailand, all that's
up to her to notice that she can go elsewhere.
Sail big n Oh, Mike, you're the kind hearted one here.
I'm gonna still say no, Hey, you gotta just you
gotta you gotta just wait. Rolling along as Valentine's Day

(01:21:45):
has hit some of you very close to others, you
can always listen to us on the I Heart Radio
app or Syria sex M channel eighty three. And night
in the n b A just concluded with that Nuggets
victory over the Spurs, but the big victories on Tuesday nights.
Cavaliers go to Oklahoma City and top the thunder while
the Rockets pull away from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Houston is

(01:22:07):
now when nine straight. As you heard Tom Looney say,
the fact of the matter is Jonas. When you're looking
at the NBA as a whole, it always goes back
to individual stars and Lebron James and the spotlight again.
Thirty seven points in that victory tonight for the Cavaliers,
as they win again without Isaiah Thomas three and oh,

(01:22:27):
since he was dealt to the Lakers in that trade
deadline deal. It's over, Dano, it is over. I don't
even know why we're playing the rest of the season, Like,
let's just get to the playoffs. We already have our
our Eastern Conference champion. Well, the matchups that that listen
two weeks ago, there was significant that there were serious
questions on whether the Cavaliers would be able to navigate

(01:22:50):
and get back to the Eastern Conference Finals and then
make it to the NBA Finals because you had Boston
and Toronto in that spot. And remember the Calves weren't
even sitting tight in that three spot. You had the
Bucks there, the Wizards there, the Pacers. Cavaliers still have
a two game lead on Milwaukee for that three spot.
But the fact is that they were falling. They were

(01:23:11):
losing games that they shouldn't. They had leads in games
twenty point leads that they were blowing. Everything that could
have gone wrong for the Cavaliers was going wrong. And
then Lebron James sits the overtime winner against the Timberwolves
that trade as Aiah Thomas the next day, and I
do think that the face of the East has changed.
The road to the Finals was not going to be
easy for the Cavaliers. Last year. We felt there was

(01:23:33):
gonna be a cake walk. It ended up being so
what the opening game against the Pacers seemed to be
really one of the only challenges that they had to face.
But this was gonna be different because if you had
to face the Raptors and then maybe go six or seven,
and then I have to face the Celtics wouldn't have
been as easy. But now this Cavaliers team finally seems
to be playing up to the expectations that many had

(01:23:54):
at the start of the season, but doing so without
is Aiah Thomas. Let me ask you this all right,
because this is an hour was thinking about if there's
something to this, I want to run it by you.
So theo Epstein who runs the Chicago Cubs, when he
was rebuilding the Chicago Cubs, one of the things that
he did is he was able to make a bunch
of trades for pitching because he wanted to be able

(01:24:16):
to acquire pitchers that he thought were undervalued or maybe
were in the American League and it would have been
better served in the National League. So he went out
and he traded for Jake Arietta. Most notably, Kyle Hendricks
was in the American League. Um, you know, Pedro Strope
was in the American League. Uh you know, Carl Edwards Jr.
Was in the American League. And he brought all these

(01:24:37):
guys over to the National League. And most notably what
happened with Jake Arietta, and the reason why him and
Kyle Hendricks were able to have success is because all
of a sudden you didn't have to deal with the
d H. So the lineups were easier to deal with.
And so he started to find that that was working.
And so John Lester came from the American League. You

(01:25:00):
Harvish spent most of his time in his career in
the American League. Like he's done that. Kintana was another
guy brought from the American League all for pitching, and
I think and the reason it was because they didn't
have that The lineups were easier, You didn't have to
deal with the d H and not having to deal
with that three to four times a game really helps
your costs and helps your e r A. Jake Ariett

(01:25:20):
is the most notable example of a guy who struggled
in Baltimore and became, you know, a cy young winner,
a champion in one of the most dominant pitchers in
the National League over a two to three year stretch.
Do you think there's anything too the fact that the
Cleveland Cavaliers brought in maybe undervalued players from the Western Conference,
a more difficult conference, and they're better players in the

(01:25:43):
East because the East is a weaker conference. It's a
very interesting theory. And I think that Rodney Hoods star
is going to shine brighter. Even though he was averaging
sixteen to seventeen points per game, I think that his
situation in the Cavaliers, I think there could be some

(01:26:03):
validity to that scenario, Like because look at Jordan Clarkson, Like,
how do we mean listen, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance, he
had a lot of value with the Lakers because he
was a grinder. Like who knows if Larry Nance all
of a sudden gets to the Eastern Conference and it's
like whoa, I mean, he's he's just a different player.
The thing about Jordan Clarkson is Jordan Clarkson was putting

(01:26:26):
up great numbers when the Lakers were bad. His time
in l A recently was trimm short because of a
Lonzo ball being there, and then you end up having
a backcourt of a Lonzo ball, and Catavious calledwell pope,
and then Jordan Clarkson has now moved to the back.
But if you saw at least in Jordan Clarkson when
he first emerged with the Lakers was putting up legitimate

(01:26:47):
numbers and showed that he would have the firepower to
have success. And I think that I think Rodney Hood
will shine. I think what the what you said about
Larry Nance is correct, that he is going to bring
a different sort of energy to the Cavaliers, that he's
gonna rebound and he's gonna be able to play defense.
I just think as a whole, with the moves that

(01:27:09):
they've made, none of the guys were ever that they
had in ever wanted to do anything that was out
of their uh, out of their realm. The guys that
they got rid of, I should say that means Dwayne
Wade wasn't gonna die for loose balls. Neither it was
Derrick Rose when he was playing. Neither was Isaiah Thomas,
Neither was Channing Fry In a mont Chambert. None of

(01:27:29):
those guys were gonna do anything that maybe didn't show
up in the stat sheet, and the ages of some
of those guys also makes them not want to do
those things. They're trying to preserve the preserve their body.
So why would Dwyane Wade be diving on the floor
for loose balls. That's not him. I think that changes.
I do think that there is something to Rodney Hood

(01:27:50):
becoming even more of a star, and I think this
will actually help him in his future endeavors and getting
a new contract because he wasn't gonna stick around with
the Utah Jazz. Now, guess what if Rodney Hood plays
well with Lebron James or there's some sort of mix
any superstar that wants a you know, Batman and Robin
sort of thing, maybe Rodney hoods that guy, so it
will help him. So I think that there could be

(01:28:12):
something with that. I also just think the subtraction of
Isaiah Thomas is free this team up immensely offensive. And
that's why Gordon Hayward getting injured was so disappointed, because
Gordon Hayward is a really good player in the Western
Conference under Brad Stephens system, a coach that he knows
in the Eastern Conference, who knows what the hell this
team would be like now. I mean, you know, obviously
there's the Tatum and Jalen Brown getting to play because

(01:28:34):
the loss of Gordon Hayward that that definitely has helped
their games developed. But Gordon Haywood at this point is
a better player. Like There's there's also I think like Lebron.
So it's clear that Lebron James is happier with this
roster than he was with the previous and a lot
of that had to do with Isaiah Thomas and all that.
But at some point you're gonna go through some adversity.

(01:28:55):
And so if you remember when Lebron James and Chris
Bosh and Dwyane Wade all got together in Miami, one
of the things that happened was early on they struggled.
Remember they started off and it didn't go well, and
then they went to the finals and they blew a
lead against Dallas and it was like, oh boy, I mean,
maybe this team isn't as you know, all we thought
it was going to be. This is going to actually
take some work. You know, They've still got some things

(01:29:15):
they need to work on. And I think the difference
between that team and this team is that when they
hit adversity, they were so talented that they could make
up for any of those those issues that they had
as far as any sort of chemistry or whatnot. When
these calves hit adversity, they don't have that kind of talent.

(01:29:35):
They don't have that overwhelming I can get away with
this or a missed a Simon here because I'm so good.
And that's why I think when people are talking about, well,
they've closed the gap with Golden State, I just think
they're nuts. Man. I I don't like when it comes
down to it, talent is always going to win out
and and I don't think that you can look at
this roster and say that they're more talented than they

(01:29:58):
were before. I just I don't think that's the k
I just think that they're happier playing together. But I mean,
what is happy? And when's the last time happy got
you A? Yeah? No, I get all that. I look
at this purely from the Eastern Conference, which I don't
think Jonas was a given at the beginning of the month.
I really don't think I felt, even after last year's
NBA Finals that we were not going to see a

(01:30:18):
Warriors Cavaliers final just for the simple fact of something's
just something's bound to happen. There's we had never seen
three straight finals of these the same matchup until we
saw it last year, so to get it for the
fourth straight year was even a longer shot. When you
think of all the things that can happen during a season,

(01:30:39):
whether it be injuries, whether it be the piling up
of the playoff games that both of these teams add
in the last three seasons, that can weigh on you,
especially with an aging team. And that's what makes these
deals done by Kobe Altman and the Cavaliers so amazing,
is that not only did they get younger, they traded
away guys that had zero value. When Dwyane Wade the

(01:31:02):
only place you could trade him was the Miami Heat, Well,
guess well, they'll take him back for a conditional second
round pick. Do you think anybody at the trading deadline
was like, man, we gotta get our hands on Channing Fry.
He is going to be the difference to us. No,
the Lakers will take him because guess what, they could
free up some of their salary by your packaging him
with Isaiah Thomas, who wasn't gonna have any destination anyway.

(01:31:22):
You move him along Rodney Hood in the Utah Jazz Well,
Rodney Hood was likely gonna leave free agency. So Utah
was like, well, we've got to try to figure out something.
Guess what, you found somebody to take on a mon
Chumpert and Derrick Roses contracts, and then you end up,
you know, letting go of of Derek Row. So all
of these these moves that you end up making nobody wanted.

(01:31:43):
They had zero value. And that's what was so difficult
to see a week ago. And now when you've see
not only did they get rid of the guys that
had zero trade value, when you found out how negative
things were, that these guys actually want to have fun.
That Jordan Clarkson couldn't wait to get out of l
A and I think there's a lot to that of
him being excited. Rod the Hood's like, wow, I get
to sit next to the greatest player on Earth and

(01:32:04):
and play now next to him and showcase my talents.
That's good for me. And then to to wrap it
all up of of just of of what you're saying
and looking at as this team Jerry Smith is actually
playing better. Um, that hasn't Jared Smith's numbers has here
been awful, Yeah, just atrocious. But all of a sudden,
now boom boom three, you know, fifteen points in the

(01:32:26):
first half. That is all turned around and and just
that change, Jonas and to see the Eastern Conference, it's
the it's just getting to the NBA Finals. That was
the biggest hump that I thought that the Cavaliers had
to get through. And now I don't think it was
a given a week ago. Even now, I think you
look at it and say, wow, this team really is
on track to navigate through the East, especially destroying the

(01:32:47):
Celtics like they did on Sunday in the game when
you and I have both talked about what it takes
for to get new guys acclimated, and I know the
Celtics dedemity film on the Cavaliers, but those guys seem
to aclimate pretty well pretty quickly. Yeah. And and I
just to kind of put a bow on this, Lebron
James is gonna so he's gonna be the guy. He's
gonna play a ton of minutes. At what point does

(01:33:08):
he start showing fatigue? Right like at what point, because
this now, this team looks less like the super teams
that he's been winning with and looks more like the
one that got swept by San Antonio his first year.
Because he's got he's got B players around him outside
of Kevin Love, who at this point, with injuries and
all that, I would put him as a B player
as well too. Yeah, they you know, they still have Lebron.

(01:33:28):
That that does help that that last year in San Antonio.
And that was the other thing about the heat too,
is Dwayne Waite and Chris Bosh realized that Lebron was
the best player and they were able to navigate that.
And I guess almost just you know, give up to
the fact, Yeah he's the best player. I don't know

(01:33:50):
if Isaiah Thomas is ever doing now, you know. And
and so that's what makes me like, You're like, you're not,
Like he's he's never gotten that that that big contract
he's he was making like six million dollars a year
this year, like he was underpaid for what he had done.
Like this was his opportunity to get paid and the
only way he's going to get max money because he
puts up max money type numbers like he did a

(01:34:11):
year ago, and he wasn't going to do that with
Lebron James holding onto the ball like I had ulterior motives.
Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox in for Jason Smith and Mike
Carmen here on Fox Sports Radio. You can get Dan
on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox. You can get
me at the Jonas n Where Company Alive for the
Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifte minutes could save you
or more on car in turns physical I could account

(01:34:32):
for a free rate quote. Dan Buyer has noticed something
in the world of sports that he would like to
point out to all of us. All Right, I have
no idea what the hell this is. This is going
to be a surprise to me and it's going to
be a surprise to you. That's next year on Fox
Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio, It's the Jason Smith Show
with Mike Carmen. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer as

(01:34:52):
We're in for Jason and Mike. Tonight Combody Alive for
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. It is say Valentine's
Day that is on the horizon in some places that
already is Valentine's Day. Can I give you a Valentine's
Day conspiracy real quick, Dan, I think Valentine's Day being

(01:35:13):
on the foe is a direct f you two men.
And here's why, because most of us get paid on
the fift So the fact that the holiday is on
the fourteen, it makes you feel worse about whatever it
is you do, and you ultimately and being a cheap ass,
and you look like a clown because you're waiting for
your paycheck and until it goes through at midnight for

(01:35:35):
direct deposit, you're sitting around a bar just hoping happy
hour kicks in because you can't afford the full price
dry you go out to your nice ditting establishment and
then find out they don't take checks. You know, by
tomorrow it would have been fine. Your date would have
had who do I make this out to? Shay? We
yet and you don't. Oh okay, And it's still in

(01:35:55):
that window of time after it's still in that get
the mocking big laugh. I thought, it's you know, yeah,
and it's still it's still in the window of time
to where people are still feeling the holiday money they spent.
So it's like, oh man, now I got Valentine's Day.
Oh don't worry. Well, at least I get paid by then. No, no,
not only do you not get paid, then you get

(01:36:18):
paid the day after. All right, and and good luck
trying to sell a woman on the idea of hey,
how about the fifteenth instead of the fourteen. I've done
it before, I tried. I've tried to sell women on
this one. Listen, why don't we do something in the
fifteen because Valentine's Day is the fourteen? Yeah? I know,
but but you're different than all But just just code

(01:36:38):
for I had to siphon gas from my neighbor's car
to get to work. Do you remember time when you
were really, really nervous, Like, is there like an instance
You're like, well, nerves just got to you. Maybe maybe
before a show, maybe before the interview or a game.
Last physical okay, the last the last physical, very very nervous,
so sober there are there is There is no bigger

(01:37:00):
nerves then waiting to see if your debit card purchase
will go on the fourteenth. When buying groceries. Oh my goodness,
you're like it is. There are two people we go
back to the grocery store thing because people are telling me,
now if Thailand all or a first aid product, you
should allow them to skip in front. The fact of

(01:37:21):
the matter is is if you're buying groceries on the
fourteenth and you have because you haven't wanted to look
at your bank account for the last six days because
you are afraid of what you are going to see
to just find out if your groceries are actually going
to be to be approved or not. They Oh, just
stupid card. You know, it's the company that there is
nothing like that that nerves So I understand what you're

(01:37:43):
talking about. The most nervous I've ever been with my
debit card usage was leaving Charleston, South Carolina, to drive
all the way back to Thousand Oaks, California because the
radio station I was working at shut down because they
had no money because it was weird. They couldn't they
couldn't sell the show. I can't imagine why. And uh

(01:38:04):
and driving back and having no money in the bank. Okay, literally,
like i had like less than a hundred bucks that's
including food, gas, and I've got to go cross country
bringing a U haul, So I'm charging everything on my
debit card is credit at the gas stations because it's
only a one dollar charge and there's like a seventy
two hour period before they all hit. So I'm doing

(01:38:24):
that and I am gunning it. I mean, I I
went in one night. I went from like out like Tupelo, Mississippi,
and I got all the way to New Mexico. I mean,
because I had to get it. I had no choice.
And I was sweating bullets the entire time. I was
using my debit card, thinking of myself, all right, when
is it going to hit the red? And I ended

(01:38:46):
up I end up getting to my parents house, falling
asleep on the couch. Woke up the next morning to
look at my debit card account and I was like
four hundred bucks in the red. All the all the
cards hit at that time. I was like, oh my god,
saved by the bell. Greatest moment of my life. Oh man,
you're Valentine's Day is spot on. It's like that one

(01:39:07):
once every you know, seven years or ten years, depending
on how the calendar falls. It'll fall on a Sunday
and then guess what direct deposit comes the day early
and yeah, and then your loved one can reap all
the benefits of Valentine's It's like anybody out there who's
got a birthday close to Christmas, I feel bad for
you because everybody's got one or two cheap asses in

(01:39:29):
their life, and that is the gift from God for
cheap asses, because now they can just get you, uh,
like a twelve pack of beer and say well halfs
for your birthday and the other six or for Christmas.
Like it's it's the cheap asses gift from God. So
I feel bad for all of them. It's uh, it's
that time of year though. You've got to spend if
you've got a loved one. If not, check out the

(01:39:51):
podcast and Jonas can tell you how you can enjoy
Valentine's Day if you have to spend it by yourself,
because guess what, it may not end by your self
if you follow Jonas's tips, right, damn right, because I
believe they still sell blow up dolls at seven eleven
or or your Valentine's Day could end up like Trey
Young's night did as the Oklahoma Guard went oh for

(01:40:13):
nine from three point land as Oklahoma lost to Texas
Tech in Big Twelfth Play. I'm standing up for that
transition as a professional transition. We went from blow up
dolls at seven eleven to Trey to Dan Buyer, everybody,
oh for nine. You may go old for nine at
the Old Bar and try to pick up some Valentine's
Day loving But Trey Young went old for nine. And

(01:40:35):
Lubbock tonight as the Texas Tech seventh rank Texas Tech
Red Ravers, Red Raiders. They should be the Ravers. That
would even be That would be crazy. Imagine that mascot
ecstasy halftime. Imagine those starting lineups being introduced. Wow, I
don't know what's going on here. Anyway, Oklahoma lost by ten.
Tray Young had nineteen points, but again oh of nine

(01:40:56):
from three point range. And Jonas. When we talk about
ledge basketball, and there's so much, it's just it's tough
to follow. It's tough to this and that and there.
There's there's a reason why college basketball is just kind
of getting lost or has gotten lost. And this year
it seems to be that there was this effort to

(01:41:17):
try to latch on. The NBA has grown leaps and
bounds on the shoulders of its superstars, right, I mean
that's on Lebron, James, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook,
all these guys have helped take the NBA now to
a new level. And the drama, yes, yeah, there there
there's a lot to it, pettiness, all of it. And
I felt that this season when Trey Young got off

(01:41:38):
to his great start, you saw the comparisons to Steph
Curry and people trying to make that comparison that you
were trying to turn college basketball and trying to turn
the hype into an NBA sort of thing. Well, it
doesn't work. Like the superstars in college basketball really never
ever were the players. They were always the coaches and

(01:41:59):
they're always of programs. And it's still that way with
Kala Pari, and it's still that way with coach k
and it's still that way with Roy Williams. The biggest
and best coaches in college basketball are truly the lifeblood
of it. If Duke was undefeated, Duke would be must
see television anytime that they played. And if Kentucky was

(01:42:19):
undefeated like they were four seasons ago and trying to
make that run of an undefeated season, they were must
see TV. But the problem ends up being the parody.
And this is the point where it comes back to
where I mentioned earlier. Jonas is right now. What's meaning
more meaningless NBA regular season games over the last two
months of the season or the last month of college basketball,

(01:42:42):
because there are a lot of teams that now are
just like, okay, they all star breaks here, Just get
me to the playoffs. That's all that Lebron James, it's
all that the Warriors want to deal with, probably the
Houston Rockets as well. March in the NBA is actually
a pretty crappy time. Same thing with the last two
weeks of the regular season in April. But with college basketball,
we're missing out on that that undefeated team and it

(01:43:02):
doesn't always happen. We know that's not like a common thing.
But you're not seeing a one lost duke team or
a Kentucky team that's having an up in down season.
And they tried to try to shove Trey Young down
our throats and being the savior and the reason why
we should follow college basketball, and this is what we
get from it. We get oh and nine shooting. And

(01:43:23):
I want to be hard on him because but there
was just so much hype in it's from everybody else.
I mean, I'll say it ESPN one night, let a
Sports Center about Trey Young in their graphic in a
game that they just aired about Trey Young in a
game that Trey Young in Oklahoma lost. It makes no
sense to mean a new audience stand, you know. I

(01:43:44):
mean like you just watched him lose. You just watch
him have a bad night. Yet you're you're trying to
put him on this pedestal, and I think that he
ends up getting in a spotlight that is just unrealistic
to to to be in in college hoops and especially
in this day an age. And yeah, there there there
are players that may not stick around that you don't
necessarily know. But it's always really been about the programs,

(01:44:07):
and it's always really been about the coaches that in
Kentucky and North Carolina and Duke and I'm just using
those three as the real, you know, true standard brick
Kansas as well. When they aren't up there in the
rankings and they're not a top five team, it makes
college basketball not as exciting. And I know that's tough
to hear for a lot of teams who are die hard,
whether you're a Virginia fan, whether you're a Wichita State

(01:44:29):
fan or a Villanova fan. But it's just the truth.
And when Duke, Kansas and North Carolina aren't one, two
in three their twelve, thirteen, and fourteen in the rankings.
It's if that is what is difficult. It's the same
thing in the NFL. It's the same thing in Major
League Baseball. The Yankees drive the cart, and the same
thing with the Cowboys and the Packers and the Patriots.

(01:44:50):
That's the same thing. And that's what we're missing in
college hoops and outside of college and plus, college basketball
has no real identity, like outside of March madness, they've
got no identity. That difference between college basketball and college
football is college football feels big, you know, it feels
like it's a big, a big event like it it
just feels like it could stand on its own, you know,

(01:45:11):
like without the NFL, college football could stand on its own.
College basketball is basically a feeder system for the NBA.
So going into it, you get a smallish vibe to it.
You get a well, it's just not as important as
the NBA outside of March madness. And so you're really
trying to sell people on a season worth of excitement

(01:45:33):
that basically boils down to three weeks of worthwhile watching
and those and those three weeks can be thrown out
to one week if you are put in the wrong matchup,
like you don't there is there isn't necessarily an advantage
to being a two seed over a four seed if
you get put in the wrong bracket or you get
put in the wrong matchup. And that's what is so

(01:45:55):
difficult and what is so random about the tournament. I
think you're going to get absolute chaos in the turn
him at this year. I think we are in for
a final four that there's gonna be just like South
Carolina was last year. I think you're going to see
a similar thing this year. But there's there's no benefit
to any team winning tonight when you think it hurts
their seatings because you never know if the committee is

(01:46:15):
gonna put you in a bad matchup in the second round,
and and that's what's stuff to judge. So when you
look at what's more important NBA or college basketball right now,
it actually still maybe the NBA, even though they just
can't wait to get to the playoffs, because it's all
about matchups. In the n c Double A Tournament, Dan
Buyer Jonas knocks in for Jason Smith and Mike Carmen
here on Fox Sports Radio. Get Dan on Twitter at
Dan Buyer on Fox. You can get me at the

(01:46:36):
Jonas Knocks. Coming up next, We've got to tip our
cap to somebody who, Um, this is really really good strategy, Dan,
I think I think we can all relate to this
and we'll have that for you next year on Fox
Sports Radio. But for all the latest from around the
world of sports, the award winning and the great Tom Luis, Oh,
thank you so much. Let's tip our tip a red
cap to the California kid with the red hair who

(01:46:56):
did not disappoint tonight in South Korea and the score
is in. It's the return of the King in the
pot shot right takes the goal. White NBC providing us
with the sound as we call the business when the
score dropped. What were you thinking? Um? I just felt

(01:47:18):
sober whelm. Honestly, I've been through so much at Seaun
White talking into a microphone to this point, and you know,
people talking about my age, talking about this injury I
had in New Zealand I'm still recovering from. And it's
all worth it. Now we go to the NBA. UH,
newsflash that Lebron James is pretty good thirty seven points tonight,
had Cavaliers rolled the thunder. One best team in the

(01:47:42):
Eastern Conference is the Toronto Raptors. They've won nine of
ten to Ronto rap Miami one twelve, James Harden thirty
four points, Houston's one nine in a row, rockets Ishmael
the Timberwolves one oh eight. Last game of the night
in the Mile High City, Denver, Colorado, home of the
nation's first Chipop restaurant. But you knew that Nuggets shine
the Spurs one seventeen to one. Oh no, and we

(01:48:06):
now forge fourth into the night. Will Xavier make some
noise in March, Well, these two guys will know. It's
filling in for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon. It's Dan
the Man and you in a Sesspox on the Fox
Sports Radio. All that matters is if Xavier doesn't have
an unfavorable matchup, that they check it around and that

(01:48:27):
nine game, if they get that one seed, it's all
that matters. Hey, if your future was in the hands
of a couple of you know, guys and gals in
a conference room at top of a hotel, I wouldn't
feel too uh. They put microphones and cameras in that room.
Why can't we see in there? Oh yeah, I agree
with you. I don't know gon quin Ron table. We

(01:48:47):
certainly know that you know. This past weekend they thanks Tom.
Now you've got tons more to do tonight. We're our
company of life for the Geico Fox Sports radio studios.
It's easy to save center more on car insurance with Geo,
go to GEMMA call it under non for seven auto.
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier.
Just quickly to put the bow on all the college
basketball This past weekend they revealed the top sixteen teams

(01:49:09):
that they the top four seeds in each region if
the tournament were to start today. Nobody cares about that.
All they care about is is who would be in
and who would be out. And that's the thing about
the college football rankings. When ESPN reveals them, it's why
they say three and four and five and six for
the end, because those are that's where the real decision.
They always reveal number one a lot earlier than the

(01:49:31):
other ones. We want to know who maybe in and
who may be out there. I applaud them for their
transparency and the efforts of it, but it's just not
what people really care about show us who would be
in and who would be out of the tournament right now? Yeah? Uh,
and listen, the March Madness is fun, it's it's it's
one of the best things that we have in sports.
But there's got to be a way that they can

(01:49:52):
do something to extend it, to get somebody interested in it,
because if you if you know going into it that
only this matters, you know, why are you gonna It's
like if you're playing a game show and one of
the briefcases, you know, has a million dollars, are you
really gonna waste your time on the others that have
like twenty bucks in them? Now you're gonna go straight
to the top, like why are we wasting our time here?
Let's let's let's go. It's like that's their million dollar briefcase.

(01:50:15):
All this other stuff is just like okay, I mean
need cool. Can we just get to it. There's got
to be a way that they can do something in
season that impacts that, whether it's you know, like release
weekly polls or release the teams that are out, Like
you're saying, there's got to be something that they can
do a little bit better, because at this point, everybody

(01:50:37):
just acknowledges, Yeah, this is a small time nobody cares about.
I would love to see a discussion, especially if you
have like two schools like Syracuse and u c l A.
Could be on the bubble of getting into the tournament.
You put one in and you put one out, and
then all of a sudden you have the conversations that
you're maybe not to the extent that you have in
college football, but at least it's a conversation you're having
about college basketball. Dan, I gotta give credit where credit is, Dude,
this is uh, this is really something. So we were

(01:50:58):
talking about how like everybody like a little conspiracy theory.
I think Valentine's Day is on February fourteenth because it
makes guys sweat out the fact that they don't get
paid to the fifteenth. And so we just started. You know,
another conversation opened up. Guy tweets and des rights in
and says, nothing like going out Thursday night knowing you
have two dollars and fifty six cents in your account

(01:51:19):
and you open up the tab and buy rounds because
you know at twelve am the directive post is going
to kick in. He's spot on man like he is
spot odd. You are you are checking the clock? Uh,
you're making sure last calls at twelve thirty and not
a so you don't look like an a hole when
the direct depositors are going they said, that is spot on.
You gotta be creative out there, guys. It's worth the

(01:51:40):
extra hour of drinks to keep the tab open then
to maybe risk that the bank transaction did not go
through pending. As long as it's pending, you are all good, Um,
all right, so let me okay, so let let me
We have not discuss us this, but I do want

(01:52:01):
to get your thoughts on it, okay, because how are
we supposed to to discuss or celebrate Sean White with
some of the accusations that are out there, Like like
how and you're you've you've done news your reporter, like,
how do you compartmentalize that with the stuff that is
out there? Because it's starting And the only reason I

(01:52:22):
asked is it's starting to come up more and more
and more on social media. People are pointing out that
there was um, you know, charges against him or accusations
against him, but people are all celebrating him and pointing
like how do you as as a news guy. How
do you reason doesn't doesn't change at all. You're still
reporting on what Sean White did. Um, you don't. If

(01:52:47):
Michael Vick was throwing touchdown basses for the Philadelphia Eagles
after his convictions of killing convicted of killing dogs, we
wouldn't say convicted dog killer Chael Vick. Yeah, it's Eagles
quarterback Michael Vick. And so here it's Olympian Sean White
winning gold. And there was there there were allegations made

(01:53:11):
against him, and there was a settlement made, but you
wouldn't label You label him for what he is or
what that athlete is in in that specific sports or discipline.
I guess how you would put it, because I feel
like there's not that there's a time and a place,
because it's it's bad regardless of of when it happens,

(01:53:34):
and it's a terrible situation to put anybody through, uh
and put any victim through. But it's it's it's an
uncommon because I don't know that there's a right or wrong,
because I do think that it's okay to to celebrate
that the guy just wanted gold medal and at the
same time also acknowledge that he may have been a
scumbag in another situation in his personal life. I do,

(01:53:57):
I do think you can compartmentalize without being insensitive to
the issue. And it just seems like this is more
and more going to be a topic of discussion. Listen, tomorrow,
people are going to make the comparisons. You know, we're
celebrating this guy, but he did this, and and it's
it's an awkward thing. There's no gray areas anymore. You're

(01:54:17):
either in or you're out. And listen, I Tiger Woods
is going to tee it up at the Genesis Open.
And I would say a majority of people we talked
about this earlier, hoping that Tiger Woods gets back on
his game and gets back on top and wins golf tournaments.
But I know that there are still people who will
not forgive him for what he did to his wife

(01:54:38):
and family eight years ago, nine years ago. That will
always be the case. And there may be people who
have changed their mind, but they're just people who will
never get over that, just like they will never get
over what Michael vickted and and it's yeah, there's even
back then, Jonas, we weren't dealing with the black and
white of the issues now of your either in or

(01:55:01):
you're out against this guy. And if you're with this guy,
then I'm against you. And that's what we seem to
get in today's day and age of of of these
stories coming out. I don't think anybody would say what
Sean White was being accused of is is right now
a creeper move, scumbag move. It's if it's true, it's
it's it's a scumbag move on his part, and nobody's
okay with it. But I but I don't think people

(01:55:25):
people talking about him winning a gold medal and not
bringing that up deserve to be judged as insensitive because
they're not bringing up that other issue. Yeah, And and
what I don't like as well, and this is just
is I don't like when people say the timing, the
timing of it was wrong, and then they'll say, well,
when is it right to bring up to talk about

(01:55:47):
sexual itself. The fact is is there were there were
tweets tonight that were sent out or pieces sent out
immediately after he won the gold medal. Why weren't those
sent out today or yes terday or the day before
when we knew that Shawn Waite was going to compete
and was competing. That's the issue that that I get

(01:56:07):
is now you're sitting there saying, as soon as someone
hits that high spot, somebody's there to to try to
knock him down. And I'm I'm trying not trying to
condone what he did, but there's there's there's something the
timing as well, and and and the reason. And Evan
Rosenbloom he works at TMZ. He's one of the higher
ups at t MZ and TMZ Sports, and he's a

(01:56:30):
friend of mine, he's a friend of the network. He's
been in studio before. And he sent a tweet out
a short time ago saying, since everybody is now talking
about this, and I'm telling you it's going to be
a huge, huge story tomorrow. It's going to be a
topic of discussion. You know, here's the original story that
we had on it back in I mean, like, this
stuff happened two years ago. And there is something a

(01:56:52):
little odd to you. Wait until he wins the gold
medal before you start firing off links to articles like
there's something odd about that that that doesn't sit right
with me. So it's it's just the wholest situation is uncomfortable,
and it's all right to not be okay with what
Sean White was being accused of and also then watching

(01:57:13):
what he did and be an awe of the athletic
I think that I feel that that is okay. There's
some people just feel more strongly about it and in
the same way not condoning it. But that's just there's
just no gray area anymore, and I think that there
should be a there is a gray area. U Dan
Buyer Jonas Knocks in for Jason Smith and Mike Carmen

(01:57:34):
here on Fox Sports Radio. Get Dan on Twitter at
Dan Buyer on Fox. You can get me at the
Jonas Knocks. All right, Dan, coming up next. We've got
some important issues we've got to get to, all right,
and the world of sports. This is huge stuff because
if we don't, I don't think that anybody's gonna be
able to have a productive Wednesday if we don't do this.
All right, all right, you ready for it? Alright? Pressures

(01:57:55):
on find out what we mean next year on FSR
Fox Sports Radio to the j Since Smith Show with
Mike Carmen. He's Jonas Knox, I'm Dan Buyer. You can
always listen to us. On the I Heart Radio app.
You want a tweet at us, you can do so.
I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox and Jonas. They can
get you at at d Jonas knocks a big weekend
here in l A. As the Genesis Open on the
PGA Tour is getting underway, and it's a really big

(01:58:17):
weekend because Tiger Wood just playing in it. Big deal.
Today on a M five seventy l A Sports As,
Tiger Woods joined Petros and Money and they talked about
Tiger's return to golf, which hopefully includes a clean bill
of health. I've got my my quality of life back.
It was just a very difficult probably six months. I

(01:58:38):
had to be helped out of bed every day. It's
pretty sad when I can't get to the bathroom at
the middle of the night. I had to have a
bucket next to the bed. It was really bad. It
was a really rough time, and I didn't know this
is how my life is gonna be for rest of
my life. I've been very lucky and very blessed to
have come out on on this side and I have
a chance to talk to you guys and play golf
again and do things that I never thought I could
be able to do again. And we were just talking

(01:58:58):
about the Shaun White situation of him winning gold and
then people bringing up the allegations that were made against him.
Tiger Woods situation completely different, but what we said was
that they were at least What I said is that
there are people who still will hold what Tiger Woods
did against him forever and ever, and no matter what
he does, they will never cheer for Tiger Woods. But
I think that those people are actually few and far between,

(01:59:19):
because more people, in my mind, seem to want to
see greatness again, and they want to see greatness and
Tiger Woods. And now you've got these comeback stories. You've
got Johnny Manziel talking with Good Morning America about his comeback,
and it just makes you wonder who do you want
to see come back more? And and jonas you said
it yourself, you want to see Tiger Woods reach greatness

(01:59:40):
again more than seeing Johnny Manziel play football in the
National Football League and in my career. Yeah, also because
I want to see just this this idea of Tiger
Woods only because it if Tiger Woods is now and
we talked about it before, how you know it's it's
the you find the why instead of the how, Like
if tyger Wood was always about chasing championships and majors

(02:00:03):
and all that stuff and and pursuing that, Like maybe
now it's just like I just want to be happy again,
you know, I want I want to do something and
I want to be happy again, and I just want
to play and I want to have a good time.
And if I win, that's awesome, But I want to
be healthy and I want to do it again. Because
you talk about like that's one thing I think we
all forget when a guy gets injured. We we put

(02:00:23):
everything as a timeline, okay, Like so when a guy
tears up his knee or tears up his a c
L it's like, all right, I'll be back eight to
nine months or out for the rest of the season.
Like we don't know what those eight or nine months
are like for that guy. For us, we're not the
ones that are injured, but the amount of agony that
they go through to try and rehab. This guy was
one of the greatest athletes of all time, and he's

(02:00:46):
got like, uh, a home depot bucket next to his
bed so he can take a crap without having to
get somebody to help him get to the bat Like,
think about that, Like that is that's like, that's the
stuff we all take for granted every single good day,
and he's got a bucket next to his bed to
do it. And he's one of the greatest athletes of
all time. Like that's crazy. That's a crazy amount of

(02:01:07):
pain and discomfort to be going through. Christops porzingis towards
a c L last week and now we hear ten
month timetable for his return. Everybody goes, they do the math. Okay,
so maybe they'll miss the first month of next season.
You don't think of what is Kristaps porzingis going through
in June, or what is he going through in May
as he's trying to walk again or trying to do

(02:01:27):
different things. None of that is None of that is
thought of. You just want the guy to come back.
And I think so many people want to see Tiger Woods.
They just want to see greatness, and Tiger represented greatness
and to see him. The ratings already in golf have
proven that when when he is, he is there still
making a difference. And and that's why I think more

(02:01:48):
people obviously rooting for him than they would say, come
back of Johnny Menzel. Yeah, it's like I remember I
tore my knee up once, dislocated kneecap, all sorts of stuff,
and I could just remember, like there's so many frustrating
moments tore It's like, Wow, it's just never gonna be
normal again. I'm never going to be able to do
this again. I'm never gonna be like Tiger Woods, like
we're all talking about, like, oh my god, he didn't

(02:02:09):
make the cut, didn't make the cut. The guy was
crapping in a bucket next to his bed, like like
you hear that, and you go, God, I feel like
an a hole for calling him out all these stuff. Man,
it's amazing. The thing to me when he was winning
so much like gosh, this is boring, and then when
he was gone, you're like, oh my gosh, bring him back. Hey,
by the way, you're gonna use that bucket over there.
It's all yours.
