the Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.
This is the news tonight. You didn't think we'd get
big news that that breaks after ten o'clock at night,
but this is what we get. As Edward Or of
ESPN reporting this about an hour ago from his official
Twitter account, Edward Or, longtime ESPN Dallas Cowboys insider, puts

(00:46):
out this tweet quote Cowboys, Jerry Jones and Steven Jones
have moved slowly and with an abundance of care and
respect for Jason Garrett. Like that's not a quote right
from Jerry Jones h an abundance of air and respect
for Jason Garrett. What is he eulogizing him? Uh? We
want god? He gave a violinist behind him. You know,

(01:07):
we actually watched The Darth Vader Christmas with my family. Yeah,
we watched the Darth Vader. You like my wife, that's like,
it's just this is a Yeah, it's Darth Vader burning.
I go for how long ago, I don't know, five hours,
but we watch it for like forty five minutes just
it's Luke lighting Darth Vader and then it's just a
Darth Vader on fire. Who doesn't need a funeral pyre
every once in a while, like watching the jet scame.

(01:28):
Oh no, it's much. It's a much slower burn than
that watching a jet scap Um. So more of the
quote than let me go. I gotta go back and
do the quote from the beginning. Now, too many one liners. Way, Well,
it's been a minute since we've had this um, you know,
raucous revelry here in Fox Sports Radio Studios. So it's
our first show together. Now we got a big story

(01:49):
about It's a pretty big deal. You always got to
enjoy those cowboys, Jerry Joe. This is from Edward's Twitter account.
Cowboys Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones have moved slowly and
with quote an abundance of care and respect for Jason Garrett.
That phase expected to conclude soon with Garrett not part
of the organization. Next phase, to involve candidate interviews, will

(02:12):
begin quickly thereafter. So we have had the last couple
of days of Jerry Jones meeting with Jason Garrett. We're
gonna meet again and meet again. What are you doing tomorrow?
I got lunch for you eleven thirty? How about we
all right? I'll make sure we order. What do you want?
I usually get a cherry Coke to drink. You want to,
I'll get you. I'll get you cherry coke on me.
All these meetings they have had and now it looks

(02:34):
like it's done and the Cowboys are moving on now. Now,
on the one hand, I get it because this is
not just some guy who was coaching the team for
the past three years. This is not we hired Adam
Gates that didn't work out. We hired Steve Wilkes an
affort season that didn't work out. This is he's been
the coach since two thousand and ten. The guys been
there a decade and now he's made it to two decades.

(02:57):
Maybe that's what Jerry George is waiting for. You could
say you coach the team and too decades. But so
I get it. It's a big breakup because he was
someone who when he played for the Cowboys, he was
someone that was groomed to be a head coach and
let him sit in on quarterback meetings when he was
still playing, and not not the player quarterback meetings, but
the meetings they would have, the coaches would have because
he wanted to learn, he wanted to be a coach.

(03:18):
The Cowboys really groomed him for this. So I get it.
If you ever had a long term relationship with somebody
and you thought we're gonna get married and after a
while you realized, all right, you're not the one for
me and maybe we should see other people, it's it's tough.
It's hard. It's hard to find. Even though you know, hey,
we're better off going in a different direction without each other,
the end is still very hard. It doesn't come all

(03:39):
at once. It's not a bad breakup where I caught
you cheating on me, You're done, You're out on my
phone and I'm slamming you all over social media. No,
this is hey, we tried, We tried to make it work.
Like Jerry Jones, apparently has spent the last couple of
days trying to figure out if Jason Garrett could stay
with the organization in some way, shape or form, whether
it's as a personnel guy in the front office and

(04:01):
valuating time, whatever it was. And now it looks like
it's gonna move on and he's not gonna stay with
the team, likely because he wants to be a head
coach in the NFL again, and you're gonna get that
with Dallas. Maybe he's can be a hot candidate to
be an offensive coordinator somewhere. Maybe there's somebody else w
would hire him, you know, whatever it is, this is
what what they spent the last couple of days doing.
So on the one hand, I get it, it's a

(04:21):
big breakup. But the other hand, I'm like, it's it's
it's the new year. Let him go already, let him go.
You know, look, it's for Jason Garrett. He would love
it if you would just say, Jason, we're moving on. Okay,
I get it, We're done, instead of well, I'm still
the head coach for a day or another day and
another day. Believe me, is as someone who has has
worked in a situation in sports, what we do for

(04:42):
living to pull the curtain back a little bit. Any
time you think your time with a radio station or
a TV station is coming to an end, you just
want to know. You don't want it hanging over your head.
So you can come to work every day and seeing
people who are making a decision on you, knowing they
likely have made that decision, but they won't tell you anything.
It's it's it's an imp hospital existence. It's hard to
come to work every day. It's hard to give you all.

(05:03):
It's hard to think positively about these people that you
think are just hanging there there evaluation over your head,
their power over your head. Look, Jason Garrett knows you've
had many conversations. You've been there for ten years. You guys,
it's very, very difficult. But let the guy go. Already
it's been you know, the seasons over, moving into the playoffs.
Now it's been over for a bit. Let him go

(05:24):
and move on. Well, you saw the end of the
game against the Redskins. Hours later, he's still throwing passes
to buddies and family on the field under the giant Dome,
I mean under under the giant jumbo tron. Reporters commenting goes, wow,
recognizing you know, the passing of this era whatever. I

(05:46):
guess he's under contract to January fourteen, Smith, So I'm
gonna get every bit of information and every player evaluation.
What do you think about this guy? Didn't we talk
about him on Monday? Hey, you're I'm paying you. You're
still gonna come into the office and you're gonna clock
your right out. I don't know. They could have him
do some other kind of job that isn't his coaching job. Here.
We need you to clean out the old equipment and

(06:06):
the old paper that we'd stocked up here on all
the evaluations where we used to print them out, and
go back through. You'll mightbe find somewherehen you are a player,
whatever the case may be. He's also not seemingly not
in a rush. So I give Jerry Jones credit in
that regard, right, is that there is a bit of
pace to this, And as awkward as it may be
with Jason Garrett and his millions of player evaluations and

(06:29):
exit interviews and whatever else is going on, they didn't
jump on the next thing, smoking right and pay some
guys some massive contract to come in and be the
coach whether that's right or wrong. You know, history it
will tell us one way or the other in the
hiring or they're still trying to massage whatever that head
candidate is, whether it's Lincoln Riley, rban Meyer, whoever it is.

(06:51):
But it's just gotten odd to where each day, even
with Edwarder's report, part of me is like, is it
truly done? Are we to get another resurrection of Jason
Garrett as head coach? Here? One last hurrah? Maybe we
didn't give him enough to this that the other. Maybe
the play calling in those games against teams at five

(07:12):
hundred or better. We could go back and figure out
the algorithm that was supposed to work. If we would
flip these three plays on the script, it would have
gone differently. I don't know. Maybe Jerry Jones is wishing
hoping he could save his family member one more time. Listen,
we had a bit of a thing a couple of
weeks ago. Uh Zeke's dad was watching all my exotic
pets and he kind of got busted. So how would

(07:33):
you like to do that? Moved to Ohio and watch
all of my pets. I gotta chio Picabra in there
for you can go watch him and uh, I'll pay
you the normal salary. I would pay you in Jerry Bucks,
of course. But now you just watch my exotic animals.
Now that's nicely done. Everybody just have to remember that
we did have the Yes, the the Ezekiel Elliott Dad

(07:57):
and the wild animal being really Zeke, listen to the fuzz.
The fuzz is looking for him. I'm gonna put Jason
in charge of fuzz. Yeah, the fuzz and uh that's
uh so I'm gonna put Jason in charge, and I'll
find something else for your dad. But just give me
a little bit on it, because I gotta hire a
head coach. But the thing about the head coach, and

(08:19):
and this is a big key. Every fifteen years or so,
Jerry Jones hires somebody who he knows we have a
good roster and we gotta get the most out of it.
He can't always hire Dave Campbo, you can't always hire
Chan Gailey, you can't always hire Jason Garrett. Guys who
are gonna be yes men and and and do what
Jerry Jones wants. So once in a while you have

(08:41):
to go with a big name and give them responsibility
so you can get the roster to where it needs
to be. Jerry Jones's neck is on the line, and
he knows this because he has said many times, Look,
I'm the GM of this team. These are all his players.
All these quote hand picked players are Jerry Jones. So
now he knows that I need a coach that can
get them to the next level. So he's got a
big name in mind. And that's what we're gonna hear.

(09:04):
We're gonna hear Jason Garrett is out. Then a couple
of days are gonna go by. We're gonna hear one name,
maybe two, it most, and then you're gonna get the
Cowboys making a decision because the biggest thing to realize
is that he's got to have somebody involved because there's
been no sense of urgency so far. The Redskins snapped
up Ron Rivera, who was a really good head coach,

(09:25):
two time Coach of the Year. They snapped him up
right away. Other people are going for interviews. Mike McCarthy
is now the flavor of the month again because teams
are gonna be looking for CEO type head coaches. Oh,
this is a guy that can run a whole program,
and he's an offensive innovator. The Giants are gonna talk
to him. The Browns want to talk to him. We're
now hearing Urban Meyer's name link with the Cleveland Browns.

(09:47):
There's a name that Jerry Joe's wants, or two names
that he's gonna get one of these two guys, because
if he really thought that he was, if you were
going to get this big nationwide search, it would have
happened already. Jason Garrett would have been let go of of
the day after the regular season ended, and they would
have been talking to Matt Rule, they'd been talking to
Lincoln Riley, They've been talking to all these people, but
they haven't. So that tells you that he's got people

(10:07):
in mind that all they have to do is make
the decision on because they want to be the head coach,
and we're gonna get it pretty quickly, because it doesn't
make sense otherwise with all the interview processes going on
now and teams that like their head coaches want to
give them the job right away. To stop them from saying, oh,
well that's great, Giants, I like that. I like everything
I had to say, David Gentleman, even though you're gonna
be fired in a year. You know, I like everything

(10:28):
you said, but oh, the Cowboys just called me. They
want me to interview now that it would happen differently.
Jerry Jones knows who he wants out of this. It's
gonna happen soon. He's gonna end up in Mexico. That's
he's gonna be finding Matt Rule on a beach and
they're gonna have a little boat that they're restoring. Like
it's Shaw Shank, Is that you, Matt? I can't see
some that's it. I've never seen water so blue. Where's

(10:50):
the donkey showing? Hey? What kind of exotic annibals? You've
gotten that boat? Something that donkey paying to like a zebra?
Any extra serviles? Do you have anything? Is that a hippopotamus?
It's pretty good. You know, I wanted a hippopotamus for Christmas.
But it's the way Thanksgiving. A couple more weeks call back.

(11:12):
So that's the latest. You gotta list of the whole show.
So that's the latest on Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.
According to ESPNS ed Werner, the Cowboys are moving in
a different direction and Jason Garrett's time with the team
is coming to an end. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports

(11:33):
Radio and the I Heart Radio app. So today was
the introductory press conference for Ron Rivera, new head coach
of the Washington Redskins. Daniel Snyder, Redskins owner, made the introduction.
He did not speak when the team introduced their previous
head coaches, Jay Gruden and Mike Shanahan, but he wanted
to speak today and introduce Ron Rivera and talk about

(11:58):
a new era in team history. And this is what
I mean when I say we are going to play
this sound drop forever. It's gonna be like Tim Tebow.
It's gonna be like Phil Jackson. It's gonna be Tony
Richardson saying j E T E jets. Because here's how
Daniel Snyder. I mean, I didn't need to hear a
tight shirt. I just here's how Daniel Snyder starts his

(12:23):
press conference today January second. Um. First off, Happy Thanksgiving everybody, Yeah,
this is thank you. Barbara Walters. The guy started off
as press conference by saying happy Thanksgiving, not happy New Year,

(12:48):
not even Mary Christmas with Okay, it's been a few days,
but no, no, no no happy Thanksgiving. Is person want to
make sure hey, happy Thanksgiving? And you know, maybe he is,
just maybe he's got a browser that hasn't refreshed. He
still thinks it's Thanksgiving. He thinks there's like five more
games in the season. Oh, I'm getting Ron Rivera. With
five games left to go, we can make a run.

(13:09):
Because we're three and nine. We can still win the
NFC East. Because everybody thinks the guy starts by saying
good afternoon and happy Thanksgiving. Well they had a happy Thanksgiving,
right They were celebrating a win over your Detroit Lions
as Thanksgiving game down. So I mean that was as
good as a guy for them this year. I mean,
I can't believe it was a joke because it's not

(13:29):
like he waits for applause or somebody laughs or there's
something inside like, oh I get these had happy thanks
Look play it again. It's it's he just says happy Thanksgiving. Um,
first off, happy Thanksgiving. Everybody, gobble gobble turkey turkey. Seeing
full circle, we're back right back to hardball. Oh it's

(13:50):
happy Thanksgiving? Obviously. Does this mean Daniel Snyder can't be
an owner, well, not not mean, not just for this.
We already enough confirmation of other issues. However, it's still
only his third head coach. Isn't that kind of shocking? Yeah, no,
it is, given the twenty years he's been in charge
in the madness of his reign, that this is only

(14:12):
the third head coach he's put in in power. He
feels like the owner who is hands on but then
his hands off for a long time and then comes
back in his hands on, then leaves for a while,
then comes back, because that's just kind of I don't
get any flow with him at all, at least Jerry Chokes.
I get who he is. He's the GM, it's his team.
Everything is, isn't He's been consistent. We get Daniel Snyder,

(14:35):
and then we don't get Daniel Snyder at all for
like months, and then suddenly here's Daniel Snyder's back again. Okay,
and then we don't get him for months again. But
we got but we got that today. Jason. If I'm
Ron Rivera, that's the slow clap. And on Saturday we'll
celebrate the anniversary of Bill Belichick telling your Jets to
go to hell. I'm Ron Rivera. I'm just walking right
back out the door, you know, like the Abs Simpson

(14:56):
going into the bordello where he comes in, gives bar
his hat and blocked right back out. That's it. That's
Ron Rivera here, I'm out. He's just whistling as he
gets a. Ron Rivera has got to be saying, oh,
this is not off to a good start. This is
this is really not offen. This makes Woody Johnson sound
like the Hunts or the Rooney's, you know. Forget about

(15:19):
the fact that he's got to raise his hand doing
who who do I answer to? Hey, I hope you
enjoyed us beating the lions earlier today on National two.
Now wasn't past animal? Happy Thanksgiving? Everybody? I mean what
I mean, that's good. That's it. That's gonna be the drop,

(15:40):
just that happy Thanksgiving. Everybody's brilliant. They killed us Bruce
Allen so he's not there to run stuff. Ron Rivera
comes in and this in a power The best part
everybody celebrating it. That's the best part. Not just happy Thanksgiving,
but to everybody. Hey, everybody else, everyone you know, and
maybe Bruce Allen part of what he did while he
ran the Redskins. Was I always updated Daniel Snyder on

(16:03):
the correct holidays then, because you know Bruce Allen got fired,
he was he was up to him to freelance. Did
we lose someone else in the organization today? Jason? Let
me find out that a staffer that was supposed to
help Snyder with his comments screwed that one up and
didn't remind him of the date. I told you he'd
write read whatever you wrote on his index card. He

(16:23):
just right, I'm just gonna write thanks to everybody in
the crowd. Uh, I'd like to tell us how we
just signed us signed a new quarterback. Congratulations Joe Thiesman.
We're looking forward to great things from him as we
start a new era art Mark were We are in
negotiations with a new deal for him and dexter Manly

(16:44):
will be. I mean, I I don't I don't get
it his dexter Manly right. This is such a horrible optic.
It's like typical Redskins, and it's typical because it's hiding
all the rest of it's standing in for all the
rest of their dysfunction. Bruce Allen, who was a horrible
front office executive for the past ten years. We look,

(17:05):
we heard this season he wouldn't even watch tape of
of of rookies and people coming out of college anymore.
And when they were we were trying to break stuff down,
he was on his cell phone when they're looking at tape,
and you know, so he was obviously needed to go.
But now you've gone, and you've hired Ron Rivera, before
you've hired a general manager. If you're gonna hire a GM,
who knows maybe Daniel Snyder is like, yeah, I'm just

(17:27):
gonna do it. Now I'm gonna be the guy feel
like doing it. The whole division goes that way. Gettleman
gets fired and there's an avoiding with the Giants as
they hire their new coach. That'd be fantastic. You know what, Lee,
it's a copy heat league. We hear all the time.
Everybody he's copying Jerry. Now in the NFC East, the
press conference will be on the Mayflower, Happy fourth of July.

(17:50):
Everybody that's we're gonna get it's gonna get next week
on Groundogs Day. We're gonna get Happy Harbor Day. But
I mean, but you need your GM and head coach
to be on the same page and your GM can't
be someone who was partly hand picked by your head coach,
because then the coach is more powerful. It doesn't work
that way. Look at the Jets dysfunctioned by hiring coaches
before gms. You gotta hire your GM and then you

(18:11):
hire your coach. But here's the Redskins and now and
this stands for all of that dysfunction. Everything that's going
on dysfunction with Redskins is Daniel Snyder wishing everybody happy Thanksgiving.
That's all you need to know. Five times they made
the playoffs since he's been there. The first year, right,
he bought him in May of ninety nine, with Jim
Zorn at the Helm, they went and they won the East. Uh,
he was replaced by Mike Shanahan, and then they've gone

(18:34):
to the playoffs four times since and they've won the
East twice since. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten
pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. You know, you think tomorrow
we're we're not going to celebrate, you know, Saturday being
the twentieth anniversary of Belichick resigning his head coach to

(18:57):
be Millennials have no idea show in time, They have
no idea who the Jets are. I have to explain
the Jets to millennials that they're not. They're not. As
soon as you say butt fumble, all the Green guys,
twenty years ago, everything changed. I mean, we haven't got
a break. We haven't gotten a break, um, but we

(19:19):
do have something. Speaking of the butt fumble, and maybe
this would would you say, Mike, knowing what we're gonna
talk about in twenty minutes, that what we have coming
up is the audio version of the butt fumble? Or well,
how would you how would you describe it? Yeah? I
think you could say that. I think, yeah, I think
that's pretty close right right about, because this will live
on in infamy. I mean, it's it's really just the

(19:41):
latest in a long laundry list of problems for the
you know principle involved here. But yeah, sure, let's let's
go with that audio version, all right, without the Chris
collins Worth analysis. Yeah, they're but and here's what Reggie
White used to do to people fork on hear it. No, no, no,

(20:01):
we don't have its Sanches gets hit, the ball is
loose and it's alive. I have never seen this before this.
Vince will Fork is gonna throw Brandon Moore back into
the quarterback. He's gonna fumble full of football. This is
what used to people. Just lift him over the Mark

(20:25):
Sanchez not expecting it, and it was Brandon Moore. If
you keep talking over it, we're gonna have to replay
it again. Man. That's happy New Year, Happy New Year.
I missed the line. Not cool. That's all right, Frostburg,
Happy Thanksgiving. Well, we'll get to the audio version of

(20:46):
the butt fumble coming up. In About turkey, it was
always today was so good. I'd turkey. I I didn't
think they sell turkey. Uh oh no, no, you know
what white because look, I'm in Detroit doing the shows
out of here, doing the holidays with my wife. You're
the only guy explained doing with the audience that vacations
in Detroit. We still have a problem with this. We're

(21:08):
gonna petition for next year. I'll write the letter to
the family. No, let's go to Detroit. Vacation in Detroit
in the wintertime. That's how tough I am. No, that's Detroit.
Something else. Yeah, no, no, no, Vay, love is blind.
Love doesn't feel frost bite. I don't know something like that.

(21:29):
I was so incredibly excited to get off the plane
and go to Whitecastle because White Castle in Detroit is
like Starbucks in Los Angeles and New York. I mean,
it's every other block. I haven't had this yet, but
they have a new Sloppy Joe Burger, and come on, man,
what do you do with favorite? It just the term
Sloppy Joe just gives shivers down the spot. But I mean,

(21:52):
we could just drive to Vegas. We could do a
team road trip to get White Castles fresh in Las Vegas.
We don't need to go to Detroit. No, Jason though, No, no, no, Jackass,
Come on, no, you can go to Wigan. But I
you know my wife's family is they can come to
Las Vegas. Maybe they wouldn't rather escape to Vegas. Vegas?

(22:13):
Now that is a movie patent pending Fat and pending
Fat and Khaki's in Vegas. Oh you must be from Michigan.
Um No, they gladly stripped those often the best part
of the holidays. We'll get to uh Alice cowboys in
a couple of seconds. Three times that we celebrated Christmas.

(22:35):
I was gonna say thanks, we celebrated Christmas on the
So it's my wife's family is coming in. We're celebrating
christ You guys don't know how to read the calendar either, well,
because we were flying in from you know, on the
twenty six. Were sorry, we'll do it all in. They
al right, great. So two of my family, my wife's
family members are you say, we're gonna bring our special

(22:57):
family keiche. And it's like, okay, bringing each al right, great,
And then they show up and they go, here's the
kiche and the kiche are white castle crave boxes with
twenty four burgers. And they had to crave cases. One
was cheeseburgers and one was was was hamburgers. And here's
how innovative I am and how desperate I am for cheese.

(23:19):
Of course, all the cheeseburgers go fat, go first, right,
there's like twenty You tell me you didn't elbow the
kids and women out of the way to get to
the cheeseburgers. I'm not saying that hurt. Listen. I'm not
saying I wasn't the first person in line. But I
didn't elbow anybody. But they'm sure I stood in front.
Of course, all the cheeseburgers go first. Cheeseburgers, right, so
what's left to the hamburgers? I was like, this is
this is not acceptable? So Rob, I go upstairs to

(23:41):
my to my aunt and uncle's refrigerator. I pull out
the Velvita craft slices, bring him down, and just start
putting my own cheese on the white Castle burgers. I'm like, great, now,
but now I can eat the hamburgers because I can
put my own cheese on it. I wonder how many
homes I would have to go through here in southern
California before I found someone who stocked velvet. It is

(24:03):
a little rubbery, not a sponsor. It is a little rubbery,
but when you put it on a hot burger, it
kind of melts a little, but it tastes fun. I
like the kind of melts it kind of because it
doesn't melt all the way. And you can't put it
in a in a microwave for so so long because
you wanted to want to cook the jes because the
experimentation with Velvita experience. Listen, because if you put a

(24:25):
white Castle burger in the microwave for too long, because
it's a smaller burger, it will dry up fast, so
you can't really do it for kind of melts. Probably
trial and error about fifteen years ago. But now you know,
now I know we gonna do a little bit of it.
So I melted a little bit and I still taste
the cheese. Now I'm gonna go to White Castle after
the show, to be two o'clock in the morning and

(24:46):
be driving on empty roads listening to Riff one oh
one on the way and listen to the Greta Van
Fleet and I'm gonna go. I want to go get something.
I gotta go get a White Castle. Give me the
Sloppy there's the commercial that make It's Elvis singing True
Love travels on a gravel road. Take that of the
Afghan Whigs version uh and it's you on your road

(25:07):
to White Guests The Sloppy Joe's Come with fries and
ammonia made I think the Sloppy Joe's uh come. However
they do, I don't know. I'm a little frightened if
you if you actually do that experiment, you have to
record it, but nothing to see that we can go
viral for that one. Excuse me, I'd like uh three

(25:29):
double cheeseburgers, no pickles. I would like a three mini
chicken sandwiches with no cheese. Sir, Why don't you spend sir?
Why don't you just buy a whole case if you're
ordering that many and then four of your sluppy Joe's
for a cop. No, listen, this is just for one person,
just from someone to order what I want to order? Sure?

(25:51):
Are you eating? Yes? I am? Oh, I gave it away,
you know, I gotta hope hopefully it's a twenty four
hour white Castle or I'm going to whyd to go
to Timortons for don't go dry and they give me
a white Castle crown to wear like I'm a little kid.
Hey they sharpening your plastic fork and knife? Hey, with

(26:13):
when you buy twelve sandwiches you get this crown? Oh,
thank you very much. You get everywhere a bib when
you're eating lobster Jason, Nope, it's got a picture of
a all right now forget now. You know you guys
are getting for the holidays next year, you're all getting
white Castle and white Castle T shirts. That's you're getting

(26:34):
for the Probably were probably wear a vintage white Castle.
Rob Parker put a Fox Sports Radio patch on it. No, no, no,
I'm gonna wear it, eat white Castle, whatever spills on it.
You guys are getting these shirts, Dame used, it's gonna
look like a Banksie. It's really expensive. That's the spittle

(26:55):
from his eighteen slider. I might go fancy and get
the jump Man patch. I don't know. Yeah. Be sure

Coming off the bowl games yesterday, Uh, there's a lot
to break down when it comes to what is next

(27:16):
for a lot of these teams coming off either a
big Bowl victory like Alabama, a big Bowl lost like Michigan,
and any other team in between, justin Herbert and Oregon, Wisconsin.
But the status of two a tongue of Viola is
really at the forefront of every college football conversation. Will
he be returning to Alabama for one more year or

(27:36):
will he go to the NFL draft. Initially he was
supposed to talk today, but then said he's gonna make
his decision and make his announcement on January six. He's
got to go to the National Football League, all right?
When the National Football League wants you, you go. And
that's the big thing that all stars need to learn
in college. When the NFL wants you you go. This

(27:57):
is a year in which there's one sure fire college
at ball quarterback coming out that everybody wants, and that's
Joe Burrow. Look at what he's done after the forty
five touchdown performance in the semifinal. What can you say
about the guy? But I know too. His stock is
low right now because it's the hip injury and it's
the it's the beginning of January. But as we get

(28:17):
closer to the draft and he gets a clean bill
of health and scouts start looking at tape again, they
realize this is a guy who's thrown thirty some on
touchdowns a year in college. He did it both years.
He was a number one overall pick. We thought before
the year. He's getting back to that. Now. This is
when you want to go, because you're gonna be the
second quarterback taken. Someone will take you. You'll go in

(28:38):
the top five, and you will wind up being the
next IT star quarterback in the National Football League because
his pet degree is better than Joe Burrows. Joe Burrows
did it for one year and to a tong about oh,
it did it at least for two years. But he
does have the injury tag on him right now, so
that's why he has to wait a little bit. But
stock will come back up on to a because the
NFL wants you. Now, you're gonna wait one more year.

(29:00):
You know number one. You're not going number one because
Trevor Lawrence is gonna go number one. And you don't
know what other quarterbacks are gonna come out there. They're
gonna be Hey, they're the new flavor of the month
if you guys. Okay, we've watched two for the last
couple years. But boy, this quarterback, boy, he really excites me.
And this is a guy that's kind of we haven't
seen a lot of and he intrigues me in his
skill set. You don't know what next year is gonna be. You.

(29:20):
You could wind up being the number one pick next
year because something could oppen to Trevor Lawrence, but likely
he's going number one. You don't know who else is
out there. You know you wind up being a top
five pick because you're a quarterback. You can't pay attention
to any of these mock drafts and say oh two
is the number eighteen two is the number nineteen, number twelve. No,
he's a quarterback. He's the next rated guy after Joe Burrow.
So he'll go on the top five. They want you now,

(29:42):
you kind of have to go. But even if he
didn't go in the top ten, it's not the biggest disaster,
right to me going back to college. And my point
has been clear on this since a like nine hundred
thousand word missive during that whole Clarette Williams debacle with
the n C Double A all those years ago. If
you can and you're eligible to go to the pros,

(30:02):
you're done. You go and take your money, and you're
gonna be a first round pick. We saw what happened
with Lamar Jackson this year. Right, he's the last guy
picked in the round, and he went in and he worked.
Last year they were a tenant six team. You're going
into a better team, better team all around. You don't
have to try to play savior. Joe Burrows got the
worst situation you always. We're just talking about the the

(30:24):
Cincinnati Bengals. All right, I assume A. J. Green's healthy
and John Brown can stay healthy and whatever else. Okay,
maybe You've got a couple of component parts right, mixing
and spurts looks like a top ten back, but not
not every week. So you've got a couple of pieces,
but overall you're destined to really climbing a hill to
get back to five hundred in a tough division. When

(30:47):
when you look at what Lamar Jackson was able to
to walk into, and you're you're gonna be around pro trainers,
You're gonna be getting paid, You're gonna be much that
much closer to your second contract because that's where the
money is, right, the huge signing bonus and what what
you can get in there. Delaying it in college, trying
to fight through and and play through, potentially get another injury,
no chance. Be sure to catch live editions of The

(31:09):
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harman weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I
Heart Radio app. Joining us now on the Hotline No
One Better NFL on Fox Insider Extraordinary Jay Glazer. Jay
watching the Daniel Snyder presser today, I wanted to welcome
you by saying Happy Thanksgiving. Yeah you know what I was?

(31:30):
I saw that I almost treated so much today I'm
not gonna And then no, I didn't see anybody else anything.
I'm like, God, I'm did nobody else hear that? Like
so happy? Thanks doing? I mean, I know we don't
really have holiday as the NFL. We just worked through.
But I was like, you just said happy, thanks him.
We're a couple month fight two. I noticed, but I
didn't see anybody because everybody else was talking about, you know,

(31:53):
the direction of the team, and you know we're on
Rivera and and you know Daniel Sayer saying we need
a culture change, and I'm like, wait, what about the
first line? But mister, that Ron Rivera. I was waiting
for him to go Bill Belichick and just back out
of the room. I can't do this. He is Brown,
would never He's he puts it on paper. You got

(32:13):
a word, hey, Jay. Obviously the big story tonight we
saw Edward a report the Cowboys are gonna move on
from Jason Garrett. He didn't happen. That hasn't happened yet. Okay,
it hasn't happened yet. Um. It's an interesting thing because
the relationship with with Jason and Jerry. For Jerry, it's
just two of them are so deep. And I think

(32:33):
Jason still lobbying. Hey, this is what you know, we've
done this, this, this, we're building. We're close and and Jerry,
it's a different relationship with him with everybody else where
anybody else would be like, you're out. So he hasn't
been able to really um kind of like you're breaking
up with a girlfriend. You guys are really best friends
and it's like, hey, we're just kind of grown apart
and you're just sticking and she's like, well no, well

(32:54):
let's not you know, we can work on this, and
you're like, maybe we can. But the eventually looked already
you know, been Um, they're set up kind of who
are there next? You know, interviews are gonna be and
they're gonna, I think, be pretty aggressive and quick about this.
So I don't think anybody's gonna go in there to
really interview while Jason is still you know, somewhat employed,
if you will. Where they haven't come out and said,

(33:15):
now we're moving on. Who are you? Who have you hearing?
Are some names maybe that the Cowboys would go after,
because what's interesting Jay is that if they do move on,
it seems like they're pretty happy with their pace. Look
Ron Rivera's got snapped up and Mike McCarthy is gonna
be interviewing, and we're here in urban Meyer's name all
over the place. Now, No, I don't hurting down there,
but I do think they're gonna look at guys who
established and people who have maybe had some experience in

(33:37):
fast and edge coaching. So, I you know, was a
different place. But also, um, you know, I think some
of their staff they're gonna want to retain. So it's
just it's so I mean, it's so early, and I
think that a lot of these teams, the Redskins jumped
out fast. I don't see the rest of them really
jumping out fast. I think they're gonna go extensive. You know.

(33:58):
Also because a different year than most, there's no last
year everybody wanted to rush out and get the next
Sean McVey. You raised it, well, there is none right now.
Everybody's like, all right, who do you? You know, what's
your pleasure right here? And you kind of want to,
you know, see who you fall in love with when
you're interviewing. I'm sorry, I think it's even even if
a team has something in mind this year, I think
it's wide open for somebody else to take it. It's funny, Jake,

(34:21):
because we've talked about over the course of the year
and your visits with us, you know, like in Cleveland,
you got to get the adult in the room. And
it seems, at least from the outside looking in, that's
where teams are trying to head to this year, as
opposed to just kind of guessing and trying to find
the hot hand. I think because you've seen like one,
Mike Comin's done. You know, they've had all these injuries.
What's Sean Payton did without Drew Breeze, And I think

(34:43):
they realized, all right, we need a guy who just
to get us through this stuff and and build this
culture here instead of just an offensive coach, you know,
a great offensive coach or a great you know whatever,
you know, a schematic mind. I think they're realizing, man,
that's what coaching really does, is it gets us over
the hump of when we have adversity. You know, the
things like look right, we're real quick. You look at

(35:03):
the Doug Peterson right now. I mean they got nobody,
there's nobody left, and here they are, you know, in
the first round of the playoffs, where we really had
no business team there. And that's coaching. Does That's that's coaching,
you know, it's getting your team to not give up
an overcome. And Mike Tomlin had blessed the Eagles, I
mean at least the Eagles at their quarterback um. And

(35:25):
you would think that a team like the City should
just fold up when Drew Breeves went down, but man,
not at all did certainly didn't miss a step, right, Yeah,
you know I feel like now that because you're right,
there's no offensive there's no hot young offensive coordinators are
gonna come, no one after anybody, right yeah. And so
now looking at the teams and what their needs are, like,
what are the big market teams the team the Giants

(35:46):
needs stability, the Browns needs stability. There's there's there's two
things both those both those places need both those places
places need somebody to develop their quarterback first and foremost. Okay,
and look, Pats Fremer actually did a really good job
developed and Daniel Jones as a quarterback, right, but they
need somebody now take him to that next level. And
Sam was, you gotta take Baker Manyfield, you gotta develop them.

(36:07):
And it's somebody that Baker is gonna listen to and
respect and want to learn from because he's got to learn,
whether he thinks so or not, he has to learn right.
And then look the browsing the complete culture change, absolute
culture change. So that's what they're saying. Okay, we're gonna
go with the head coach, is gonna help the head
coaches to help hire the general manager. Stay with the
Washington Redskins. So you know, the the Giants, they decided

(36:27):
to stick with their GM and and um Man, I
think that you know, tract for a different organization, and
they're they like to keep their guys that are have
been in the house there, you know, for them to
move on from Dave Gett. But you know, I kind
of don't like bringing in the head coach when you're GM.
Is someone on a one year deal, if you will,
because like if if the issue is just yere, I

(36:49):
don't know if they're gonna keep them. Um I kind
of prefer they start fresh with a you know, with
a tandem the way these other teams are doing. Fox
Sports Radio Jason Smith Show with Mike Armin join on
Hotline our buddy Jay Glazer cast member over at at
Fox NFL Sunday. Uh, you're still waiting for that mny
num for Ballers founder, m v P merging Vets and Players.

(37:10):
Go to Vets and Players dot org to check out
the work he does. They're at Jay Glazers where you
find him on Twitter and with us each and every
week here on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah. I take a
sense nomination. Shouldn't we have gotten an Emmy nomination? You
just you just want the Emmy two of them? No, no, no,
but no, come on, you wanted one for acting though? Yeah? No,

(37:35):
I want like Ballers, like four oscars, a couple of Grammys. Okay,
well it's not on the bio. It's short. I mean
that's what Twitter does to us. I've been hitting the
head a lot. Will update that as as we get through.
I'll work to be the pr maven for you on
that that reporting supporting supporting actor. I'm trying to search

(37:58):
Jay Glazer eg, you know, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar Tony to
see what see what comes up here? Yeah? They you know. Look,
I don't like to pray as we get a miss
Tony for what what musical theater work? Would you like
to be? Uh credited? Just because I was coming along
with the theme song. But the way I was doing
it was just as a masterpiece. I was up for

(38:20):
Best Supporting nod just when I was not along with it. There. Well,
I don't forget Jay's acting name is Jay's acting name
is Jay Glazer. Al Right, so just that Jake Laer. Wait,
that's a whole other genre. That's a whole other set
of awards there, buddy. But yeah, the the NFL coaching garrison,

(38:45):
I mean, obviously got playoff games going on. Everybody's burying
the Patriots and say, hey, Tom Brady's playing in any
number of places. Can he be cloned somewhere else? Yeah?
That that's that's what everybody's waiting for. Demise. Yeah, I
think I don't know about demise. I think it's his
last year in New England. But yeah, I don't know

(39:05):
why everybody's kind of doing the whole Tom Brady demise thing, Like,
when's that ever happened? It never has the Patriots to man, everybody,
you know, it's and it happens often where you're going
to playoffs and people kind of I don't know if
it's wishful thinking, but they're different. They are. I mean,
you're just asking them to win a single game, just one,
just one, not one. Focus on this one. There's been

(39:27):
no kandom better in the history of the NFL. She
just say I need this one. Win them Bill and
Tom Jay. Lastly, we had the big nominees. The finalists
were announced for Canton UH this year. Troy, Paula Mallo,
Reggie Wayne. The top of the list, if you could
just was a no brainer. That's first ballot too, is
going Who would do A couple of guys you say

(39:48):
are going in? I don't look. I think John Lynch
should have been in already. I think he was the
tone senter on that team. Um Man that that you know,
cover to Tony Dungee defense who was him? Who really sex?
Him and Rande would make sure everybody was set where're
supposed to be set, and they were the tone senters.
There had so many great players on there, but I
think more of those guys gotta kind of be put
in there. I think Steve Hutchinson should have been already.

(40:10):
Um that was I'm surprised he wasn't first ballot. Him
and Walter Jones made you know how many of those
pro bols together for a while. Man him and Will
will Shield. They were the best there were. Um, you know,
Larry Allen jumped around positions. Hutch is just a pure guard.
Larry Allen's best OFFENSI while in that generation, but as
Steve Hutchinson's he should have been in already. You can

(40:30):
fall on Twitter at Jay Glazer, not Jake Lazer, but
it's at Jake unless the wait, maybe there probably isn't
Jake Lazer on Twitter towards Zak Thomas interstee too. I
think commus should be an absolutely. J J is always
manny appreciated, my friend. We'll talk to you
